Getting into one piece is more like joining a cult than any non conspiracy based fandom I’ve ever encountered before.
It’s not gonna appeal to everyone, but if it does appeal to you, you gain just a little bit of the kind of crazy that the rest of the strawhats have for Luffy, best boy of all time. My favorite description I ever heard of Luffy’s whole deal was ‘like a combination of goku and bugs bunny,’ and if you let his cartoon slapstick joke logic into your heart he will stay there. Plus there’s the whole secretly a god plotline???? But I still have several hundred episodes to get there so anyway here’s to the King of the Pirates.

Seeing Luffy after the 2 year timeskip
Pairing: Luffy x GN! reader Contains: fluff Wc: 620 A/n: I think im going to start doing angst stuff, give me some suggestions if any!
The air on Sabaody Archipelago was buzzing with excitement as you stood near the Thousand Sunny, your gaze flicking between the crowd and the horizon. The two years apart had felt endless. Life without Luffy was quieter—too quiet. Yet, you knew this separation was necessary. He had his dreams to chase, and you supported him with every ounce of your being.
Still, two years was a long time to go without his infectious laugh, his carefree grin, and the way he made you feel like you belonged.
“Oi! Watch out!” someone yelled nearby, but you barely heard it before a familiar, chaotic voice cut through the noise.
“Sorry!”
You turned toward the sound, your heart leaping. And there he was, sprinting through the bustling crowd like a kid on a sugar rush. His straw hat sat perfectly on his head, bobbing with each step, and his grin stretched wide across his face.
“Luffy!” you called, your voice louder than you intended.
His head snapped toward you, and for a second, he froze mid-stride. His big, brown eyes lit up with unmistakable joy, and then he was running even faster, barreling straight toward you.
Before you could fully prepare yourself, he launched into you, his arms wrapping around you with enough force to nearly knock you off your feet.
“Y/N!” he yelled, his voice practically vibrating with excitement. “I missed you!”
You laughed, clutching at his vest to steady yourself. “I missed you too, Luffy.”
He pulled back just enough to look at you, his hands still resting on your shoulders. His eyes scanned your face as if committing every detail to memory. “You look the same!” he said, his tone as blunt as ever.
“And you look stronger,” you teased, poking at his arm. “Have you been working out?”
Luffy flexed dramatically, puffing out his chest. “Yup! I’m way stronger now! You won’t believe the stuff I can do!”
“I’m sure I’ll see soon enough,” you said with a grin, your chest warm from his boundless energy.
Luffy tilted his head, his expression softening. “Are you okay? Did anything happen while I was gone?”
You hesitated, surprised by the question. Luffy wasn’t usually the type to ask about emotions directly, but the genuine concern in his eyes made your throat tighten.
“I’m fine,” you assured him, smiling. “It’s just... it’s been a long two years.”
His grin faded slightly, replaced by a rare seriousness. He reached up, placing his straw hat on your head—a gesture so intimate it made your heart stutter. “Well, I’m back now,” he said simply, his voice steady. “And I’ll make sure to stay close this time.”
You blinked, your vision blurring slightly as tears welled up. “Luffy...”
“Don’t cry!” he panicked, flailing his hands. “I didn’t mean to make you sad!”
You laughed through the tears, shaking your head. “I’m not sad, you idiot. I’m just happy.”
His face brightened again, and he pulled you into another hug, this one softer but no less warm. “Good. ‘Cause we’ve got a lot of adventuring to do!”
You wrapped your arms around him, breathing in the familiar scent of sea salt and sunshine. “Yeah, we do.”
He pulled back, grabbing your hand and tugging you toward the ship. “Come on! I gotta show you everything I’ve been training for!”
You let him drag you along, your heart soaring with every step. Luffy’s laughter rang in your ears, and for the first time in two years, you felt whole again.
Whatever lay ahead, you knew one thing for certain: as long as you were by Luffy’s side, you could take on anything.

Worse than him

Sabaody Archipelago is where pirates running wild, marines scrambling to keep up, and an air of pure anarchy hovering over the island. For most, it’s a place to lay low, but for Eustass Kid and his crew? It’s a playground.
“You call this a challenge?” Kid’s voice booms, echoing across the street. A wrecked marine battleship lies behind him, its parts floating mid-air in a cyclone of metal. He glares at the remaining marines, daring them to make a move “Pathetic. Bring me someone who can actually fight!”
“Captain, you’re so commanding today!” you call out, standing on a pile of rubble nearby. Your hands are full of homemade explosives, and your face is lit up like a child on a sugar high “It’s so hot when you yell at people.”
Kid glances at you, half smirking “Shut it, y/n, and start pulling your weight.”
“Pull my weight?” you pout, tossing one of the grenades into a crowd of panicked marines. The explosion sends them flying, and you beam at Kidd “I’m pulling my weight and yours. You’re welcome, by the way.”
Killer groans from the sidelines, wiping blood off his scythe “Can you two flirt after we’re done here?”
Nearby, the Straw Hats and Heart Pirates are watching from the shadows, having accidentally stumbled upon the chaos.
“Who the hell is that?” Zoro mutters, squinting at you as you blow a kiss toward Kidd mid-explosion.
“She’s with Eustass Kid” Law replies, adjusting his hat with a smirk. “Looks like his kind of crazy.”
“They’re terrifying” Usopp whispers, clutching his slingshot like a lifeline “She’s scarier than him! Did you see her laughing just now?!”
“She’s… kind of adorable” Sanji says, hearts in his eyes “A beautiful woman with a fiery spirit.”
“Fiery spirit?” Nami huffs, crossing her arms “She just threw a grenade at a group of people!”
“She’s like a wild animal” Robin muses, smiling faintly “Completely unpredictable.”
“And completely insane” Franky adds, adjusting his sunglasses. “That’s some SUPER chaos over there.”
"That Kidd is like a monster anyway, we should run and leave" Usopp says trying to convince everyone to move.
Back in the fray, you’re causing a spectacle as usual. A group of marines rushes toward you, and instead of running, you grin and pull out a smoke bomb, throwing it at your feet. When the smoke clears, you’ve vanished, only to reappear seconds later behind Usopp.
“A monster?” you echo, your voice sweet and dangerous, making Usopp jump and hide behind Robin. Then your eyes drift to Kidd, who’s stomping toward a group of bounty hunters with a murderous look on his face “No… He’s perfect.”
They all blink, and Nami takes courage for one sacond to say “Perfect? He’s...he’s a lunatic!” before hiding behind Robin with Usopp.
“Oh, I know” You sigh, clutching your chest dramatically “But don’t worry... I can fix him”
You whisper the last part but somehow Killer could overhear from a few feet away and he doesn’t even hesitate to yell at you “Girl, you’re worse than him!”
The Strawhats and Heart Pirates, except for Law, collectively flinch, while you scratch your head with a shy smile, "don't believe him, he's a just a big liar" But then your smile drops and you start to run towards Killer screming "I'm gonna make him pay!"
“She’s worse?!” Usopp squeaks after you are far enough “Worse than him?!”
“That’s impressive” Robin says, watching you with a mix of amusement and disbelief.
“Disturbing” Nami mutters.
“I like her!” Luffy announces with a laugh.
“Of course you do” Zoro grumbles.
Sanji, meanwhile, is practically swooning “She’s an untamed goddess. A true queen of destruction.”
On the battlefield, you saunter back to Kidd, who just finished throwing a group of marines into the horizon “Captain, I scared away an entire squad! Aren’t you proud of me?”
Kidd snorts but doesn’t hide the smirk tugging at his lips. Instead of answering, he grabs a twisted hunk of metal from the debris and hurls it without looking, nailing a marine who was creeping up behind you. Then, his gaze snaps back to yours, intense and full of something unspoken, “You’re lucky I don’t throw you next.”
“You’d miss me too much” you reply, sticking out your tongue.
Kidd’s smirk widens, and for a second, the battlefield feels miles away. His fingers twitch at his side like he wants to reach for you, but instead, he scoffs and turns away with a huff.
The banter makes the onlookers cringe.
“They’re flirting...” Brook says.
“Flirting?” Franky shudders “That’s what you call flirting?”
“Whatever it is, it’s terrifying” Usopp mutters.
“It’s romantic! It should have been me…” Sanji protests, clasping his hands together.
Meanwhile, Kidd and the rest of his crew decide it’s time to leave before more reinforcements arrive. As they retreat, you blow a kiss toward the Strawhats and Heart Pirates, who are still standing there in the shadows.
“See you around!” you call out, laughing as you skip after Kidd.
Just as you reach him, Kidd grabs your wrist—firm, possessive. He tugs you closer until your bodies almost touch, the heat between you as electrified as the air after one of his attacks.
“Quit messin’ around” he grumbles, but his thumb brushes your skin before he lets go.
You only smirk, eyes glinting. “Admit it. You like it when I do.”
Kidd doesn’t respond, but the way he doesn’t let you stray too far speaks volumes.
“They’re insane” Nami says finally, shaking her head.
“They’re perfect for each other” Robin adds with a small smile.
“Perfectly awful” Zoro mutters.
Sanji sighs, hearts still in his eyes “She’s the woman of my dreams.”
Tumblr media
The prison gates of Udon slam shut behind Eustass Kid, and for the first time in a long time, you are completely and utterly… alone.
Killer is missing. The rest of the crew is scattered. And Kidd, your fiery, angry anchor, is gone, dragged away.
The empty wasteland around Udon stretches for miles, but you don’t even notice. You're sitting cross-legged on a large boulder, twirling a dagger between your fingers. Your usual manic grin missing, replaced by a scowl.
You press your tongue against the inside of your cheek, staring at the horizon where Kidd disappeared. He’s stubborn, he’s infuriating, and he’s not supposed to get caught. Not without you.
“Idiots” you mutter, flicking the blade into the dirt “They just had to get caught, didn’t they? Now I’m stuck out here, babysitting myself.”
Your voice echoes in the silence, and for once, you don’t find it funny. The loneliness itches at the edges of your mind, and for a brief moment, your manic energy dims.
Then you hear footsteps crunching through the dirt.
Your head snaps up, and the grin is back instantly, sharp, wild, and unpredictable. You grab your dagger and hop to your feet.
“Who’s there?” you call, your voice lilting with mock sweetness. “Friend? Foe? Someone dumb enough to get too close?”
Out of the shadows steps Sanji.
He freezes mid-step, blinking. For a moment, the two of you just stare at each other.
“Oh,” you say, tilting your head “A pretty boy. What are you doing all the way out here, handsome?”
Sanji’s initial shock fades instantly, replaced by his usual swooning expression “A goddess like you shouldn’t be out here all alone!” he says, bowing dramatically “Allow me to escort you to safety!”
You blink at him, and then, unexpectedly, you laugh. It’s not the sharp, chaotic laugh that usually leaves people unsettled, but something softer, more genuine.
“Safety?” you echo, wiping a tear from your eye “Oh, pretty boy, that’s cute. But I like it out here. No rules, no captain yelling at me to ‘stop blowing things up.’ It’s perfect!”
Sanji straightens, clearly unsure how to handle you “You’re… not scared?”
“Scared?” You smirk, twirling your dagger “Of what? The big scary Beast Pirates? Please. I could handle them in my sleep.”
Sanji scratches the back of his head, glancing around nervously “You’re, uh… not with Kaido, are you?”
The question makes you laugh again, this time the unhinged, unsettling kind “Kaido? Oh, no, no, no. I’m with me. And sometimes I’m with my captain. But right now?” You spread your arms wide, spinning in a slow circle “It’s just little old me against the world.”
Sanji doesn’t know what to make of you. On the one hand, you’re clearly dangerous. On the other hand…
“Little old you, huh?” he says, smirking slightly.
Your grin widens “You catch on quick, pretty boy. What’s your name, anyway?”
“Sanji. Cook of the Straw Hat Pirates.”
“Straw Hat…?” You narrow your eyes, thinking “Oh! You mean that idiot who got himself thrown in prison with my captain?”
Sanji stiffens “Your captain? Wait...how could I forget a beauty like you!! You are part of Kid’s crew!”
“Ding, ding, ding!” you sing, clapping your hands “Give the man a prize!”
Sanji’s instinct is to back away slowly, but before he can, you lean in closer, examining him like a scientist studying a specimen.
“You’re funny” you say, tilting your head “And kinda cute. Maybe if I met you before Kidd, you’d stand a chance.”
Sanji swallows hard. “Uh… Really???? thanks?”
Your smirk falters, just for a moment. You glance toward the prison again, shoulders tensing before you quickly mask it with your usual bravado. But Sanji doesn’t miss the way your fingers tighten around the hilt of your dagger, like it’s the only thing keeping you steady.
“Have you… heard anything about them?” you ask softly, almost too quietly for Sanji to hear “Kid or Killer?”
The question catches him off guard. He’s not sure how to respond to this version of you, the one that isn’t grinning or threatening or tossing explosives.
“I’m not sure” he says finally “But… if they’re as stubborn as you, I’m sure they’re fine.”
You stare at him for a beat too long, and for once, Sanji doesn’t see wild amusement in your eyes but just raw, unspoken worry. Then, just like that, you snap back into place, a smirk tugging at your lips as you punch him lightly on the shoulder.
“Good answer” you say, punching him lightly on the shoulder. “I guess I won’t use you for target practice.”
Sanji smiles nervously, lighting a cigarette “Glad to hear it.”
“Come on,” you say, turning on your heel and motioning for him to follow. “Let’s find somewhere less boring to be.”
“Wait—what?”
“You’re with me now, pretty boy! Let’s make some chaos!”
Sanji sighs, but there’s a small, resigned smile on his face “This is going to be a nightmare, or a dream?”
You glance back at him with a knowing grin, your eyes glinting in the dim light.
“Oh, absolutely” you reply cheerfully, not really answering his question.
Tumblr media
Sanji brings you back to the others after realizing you’re a magnet for chaos, and that leaving you alone in Wano might cause more problems for everyone.
When you meet the rest of the Strawhats, their reactions range from mild amusement to outright terror.
“Sanji. Explain” Nami demands, rubbing her temples. “Why did you bring her here?”
Sanji straightens his tie, trying to look nonchalant “Well, my dear Nami-swan, leaving a breathtaking lady like her alone in this dangerous place would be unforgivable!” He clears his throat. “And, uh… she might set something on fire.”
“That crazy one from Kid’s crew?” Zoro’s voice is flat, his hand already on the hilt of his sword. “Are we seriously doing this?”
“She’s not dangerous!” Sanji insists, trying to look calm, though sweat is running down his temple “Well, not to us. Probably.”
“Not dangerous?” Usopp squeaks, hiding behind Nami “Did you see the explosives? She’s definitely dangerous!”
You ignore their bickering, tilting your head as you survey the group. “So you’re the Straw Hats, huh? You don’t look as dumb as your captain.”
“Luffy’s not dumb!” Chopper snaps, puffing up his chest.
“Chopper, don’t provoke her!” Usopp hisses.
You crouch to Chopper’s eye level, grinning “Aww, look at you. You’re adorable. Maybe I won’t blow you up, either.”
Chopper freezes, torn between pride at being called adorable and terror at the implied threat.
“Anyway” Nami cuts in, arms crossed “why are you here, exactly? Shouldn’t you be off with your own crew?”
The question wipes the grin off your face. For a moment, you look almost lost “Kidd got himself thrown in prison, with your Captain” you admit “Killer’s missing. I don't know about the others. I’m the only one left.”
Robin watches you closely, her eyes narrowing in thought “And what about you?” she asks “What’s your plan?”
Your grin returns, sharper than ever. “Oh you're really beautiful! You sure you don’t want to run away with me instead? Anyway I don’t need a plan. I’ll just wing it.”
“That explains a lot,” Zoro mutters.
“Wait, wait, wait” Usopp interrupts, waving his arms “She doesn't seem that bad right now but why is she here? She's still from Kid’s crew? That guy’s a psychopath how can we trust her!”
At that, your entire demeanor shifts. You straighten, your grin turning into a challenging smirk “Careful what you say about my Captain” you warn, your voice low.
“Oh no” Usopp whispers, shrinking behind Franky.
“He’s not wrong, though” Zoro says casually.
You look at him, tilting your head, and then grin wider “Oh, I know. He’s terrible, but he’s my kind of terrible.”
“Wait,” Nami says, holding up a hand “Let me get this straight because I love myself some gossip. He yells constantly, gets into fights every five minutes, and has the worst temper imaginable… and you like him?”
You laugh, twirling a knife in your fingers “Like him? Sweetheart, I’d set the world on fire for him.”
The group collectively recoils.
“She’s insane” Zoro says flatly.
“She’s so romantic” Sanji argues.
“She’s going to kill us all” Usopp wails.
"She's funny" Robin says smiling at her and you smile back.
The group groans collectively, but secretly, some of them are starting to like you. A little. Maybe.
Tumblr media
The sun is barely starting to set when you finally find them.
Kidd and Killer, both still recovering from what happened in prison, stand on the outskirts of the battlefield. The war in Wano is about to kick off, and you’re not one to miss a front-row seat to the chaos. The Strawhats and Heart Pirates are already preparing for the inevitable, but you have something else on your mind: your boys.
“Kid! Killer!” you yell, rushing forward, a wild grin spreading across your face.
Kidd looks up first, his cold gaze piercing through the chaos around him. For a second, he just stares, as if making sure you’re really there. When he spots you, his lips twitch upward into an almost imperceptible smirk.
Something in your chest loosens.
“I thought you’d have blown something up by now” Killer remarks, crossing his arms with a smirk that, despite the mask, you can tell is amused.
“Not yet, but I’m working on it!” You hold up your knife, a wicked gleam in your eyes “Wanna make things more interesting?”
Kidd grunts, clearly still in his “don’t give a damn” mood, but there’s an edge of relief in his voice “I see you’re still the same.”
“Of course! What did you expect? I’m not the kind of girl who changes just because of a little alone time.” You flash them a mischievous wink “Besides, I wasn’t really alone”
Killer laughs dryly, clearly not sure whether he should be worried “that’s good”
Kidd’s eyes narrow slightly “What do you mean?”
You smirk, stepping closer, knowing exactly what you’re doing “I made some… interesting friends while you were locked up.”
“Tch.” Kidd scoffs, but there’s something sharp in his gaze. “You’re trouble.”
You lean in just slightly, voice dropping into something more teasing “And you love that about me.”
For once, Kidd doesn’t fire back. He just exhales through his nose, tilting his head at you, eyes dark and unreadable.
You clap Killer on the shoulder, causing him to stiffen “Anyway, let’s get to the good stuff. I can’t wait to see all the destruction.”
At this point, the rest of the group catches up to you, Zoro, Nami, and the rest of the Strawhats, along with the Heart Pirates, have gathered, watching the reunion with a mix of surprise, curiosity, and a little bit of fear.
Nami grins at you “You found them!”
“Of course I did. You didn’t think I’d leave my poor Captain behind, did you?” You turn back to Kid and Killer “These are the Straw Hats. You’re gonna love them. Probably.”
“Love them?” Zoro snorts, rolling his eyes.
“She’s already trying to make us all blow up” Usopp adds, gesturing vaguely to the chaos around you.
“Oh, come on. I’m not that bad.” You wink at Usopp. “Unless you want to make things fun. Then, we can talk about explosions, I saw you use a similar technique anyway”
“You’re insane” Franky says, his robotic eye narrowing at you.
“Well, someone has to be. Might as well be me.” You grin widely.
Luffy suddenly hops forward “Hey, hey! We’re gonna be awesome together! So fun!!”
You nod enthusiastically, your eyes glinting with excitement. “Absolutely” you look at Kid, then back at Luffy “Though, I think your idea of fun might be a little different from mine.”
Zoro, trying to stay focused, huffs “Can we stop with the chit-chat? The war’s about to begin.”
“Right!” You clap your hands, finally taking a step back and getting into the serious mood “Let’s do this. Just remember, I’m not responsible for any ‘accidental’ explosions.”
Kid rolls his eyes but finally speaks up. “Don’t blow me up.”
You place a hand on your chest, feigning innocence “Oh, Kid, you wound me.” Then, after a beat, your voice drops, and you flash him a sly smile “I always make sure you walk away in one piece.”
Kidd doesn’t reply immediately, but his jaw clenches slightly, his smirk lingering just a little too long.
And then, the war begins.
Tumblr media
It’s pure chaos from the start. The clash of swords, the explosions, the screams, and the shouts of warriors all around you, it’s the kind of battlefield you thrive in. It’s almost as if the chaos is where you truly come alive.
You find yourself charging headfirst into the fray, with Kidd and Killer close behind. The Strawhats and Heart Pirates are close by, taking on their own foes. You’re all part of the same fight now. There’s an undeniable bond forming between you and your new allies.
As you duck beneath a swing of a blade, you roll to the side, barely avoiding being cleaved in two. You throw a knife, hitting the enemy square in the chest, and grin as they fall to the ground.
“Oh, you’re all so predictable.” You say, practically skipping over their bodies. “You’ve got to mix it up more, or this’ll be over too quickly.”
Your laughter rings out, and in the midst of the battle, your eyes lock with Kidd’s for a split second. His lip curls into a smile that doesn’t quite reach his eyes, but something shifts in the air between you two. You feel a spark.
Robin, on the other side of the battlefield, has been watching you, her calm demeanor contrasting yours. She tilts her head thoughtfully and smirks.
You throw a playful wink her way.
Zoro is the next to speak, though his tone is oddly respectful. “You’re… not the worst, I guess. I mean, you seem perfect for him—chaotic, dangerous, and a little insane. Maybe more than a little.”
You laugh, twirling another knife in your hand. “You have no idea, sweetheart. But we make it work.” You glance over to Kidd, who’s taking down a group of enemies with brutal efficiency. “He’s like a wild storm, and I’m the lightning that follows him.”
You throw a glance at Kidd, and for just a moment, the two of you share a silent, knowing look—a fleeting exchange that’s heavier than it seems.
Killer, walking beside you, shakes his head in amusement “I'm actually impressed by this metaphor, it's perfect”
“You know I'm smart” you say with a grin, your voice a mix of affection and madness “Hey, if we survive this, maybe we can all have a drink after. I like the strawhats”
“Just don’t blow the bar up” Kidd grumbles, his eyes narrowing at you.
“Promises, promises” you sing back, dodging another strike and lunging forward with a wild, chaotic laugh. “Come on, guys! Let’s make sure we leave our mark on Wano!”
The battle rages on, but you and Kidd seem to gravitate toward each other. A few more waves of enemies fall under your combined onslaught. Every time you find yourself near him, his eyes catch yours, a brief, almost tender moment between the chaos.
As the last of the forces retreat and the dust settles, you stand side by side, both covered in sweat and grime, but your smiles say it all.
You turn to Kidd, eyes glinting mischievously “Well, we did it. I guess you could say we’re... unstoppable together.”
He looks at you, a rare smirk tugging at his lips. His voice is quieter now, softer than it’s been all day “You’re more trouble than you’re worth... but yeah. Maybe we are.”
Without warning, you step closer, your heart pounding as your fingers brush against his arm. Kidd doesn’t step back. Instead, he leans in just enough that the distance between you is minimal, your breath mingling. The battlefield seems to disappear, leaving only the two of you in the midst of a storm of emotions.
“You know,” you whisper, “I think I’m starting to like you even more than the explosions.”
Kidd’s eyes narrow, but there's something different in his gaze now. “Then you’ll love this,” he mutters, and before you can say another word, his lips crash against yours.
For a moment, everything else fades. The noise of the battle, the world around you—it’s all gone. The kiss is fierce, hungry, as though it’s been a long time coming, and the chaos of the battlefield now feels like a distant memory.
When he pulls away, both of you are breathless.
“Never a dull moment with you,” he says with a smirk.
You grin back, your heart racing “Not a chance.”

— Scene 1 —
In the two months that followed, you learned to draw maps. It wasn’t that you were disappointed; working with Bepo was fun, but when Luffy said Law would be training you, you expected more.
Luffy had gone through with the plan he vaguely mentioned to you, and seeing him in the newspaper with 3D2Y on his arm made you queasy—he neglected to tell you the part where he went back to Marineford—but you were so insanely proud of him. Since then, you’d heard nothing about him or your crew mates. However, you kept the newspaper folded in your room like your own personal treasure, along with a wanted poster of Law you found in the streets of Sabaody.
After Amazon Lily, the Heart Pirates returned to Sabaody for a few days to prepare for a journey to another island. You refrained from visiting the Sunny—Law warned you that there’d be heavy Marine presence around it, so you kept away from your beloved ship. It wasn’t until you were walking back to the Polar Tang that you saw Law’s poster and thought the photo they used for it was hilarious. It brought back some of the humour you’d been missing from Usopp and Luffy.
You giggle to yourself.
“What’s funny?” Bepo asks, his paw paused over the map he is currently working on. “Please don’t tell me you’re laughing at this.”
“No! No, Bepo,” You laugh. “No, I’m just thinking about something else.”
“You better be,” He says, dropping the brush on the table. “I’m done.”
You peer over at the map. A large pawprint smudges the edge of the page, and the handwriting is a little scribbly, but his measurements are accurate, and you nod. “Perfect.”
Nami’s face flashes through your mind, and instead of feeling upset, like you have been, you smile. “Add the cardinal points to the top corner.”
“Oh!” Bepo blushes, picking up the paintbrush. “Thanks.”
“You done?”
You turn, seeing Law in the doorway of the boiler room. He raises an eyebrow when neither of you answer.
“Yep,” Bepo holds up the still-drying map. “Look, captain.”
“It’s a blob,” Law criticises, squinting at it.
“It’s Amazon Lily.”
Law shrugs. “I guess that’s as good as it’ll get, yes?”
Bepo nods, glancing at you nervously.
“Considering you’re not allowed on the island, I think it's decent,” You say, smiling at Law.
He doesn’t give you the same reaction. “I need you in the infirmary.”
You shoot Bepo a glance, and he nods in encouragement. “I’ll be fine.”
Wiping your hands on your pants, you follow him out and up the stairs. The submarine is on its way to a new island in Paradise, and the engine muffles any voices on other floors.
“What’s wrong?”
Law doesn’t turn to talk to you. “I want to try something.”
His words make your stomach drop. Try something?
You’re almost jogging to keep up with his long strides. “Okay, well, can I know now?”
He sighs, giving you a sidelong glance. You smile widely at him, trying to persuade him, and Law knows he’ll give in. He always does.
“I want to try your sewing technique on someone.”
“Like an injury?”
Law nods. “Shachi slipped and split his eyebrow open on the kitchen counter, and I figured it was about time you showed me how you do it. I have yet to see your powers used for that instead of strangling me.”
Your hand brushes your side where your wound was. It took a while, but the gash Kuma gave you has healed nicely. All that’s left is a level scar.
Scoffing, you bump his bicep with your shoulder. “Dick.”
Law exhales sharply, a humourless laugh that makes you grin with satisfaction.
“At least I didn’t take your heart. That was fucked up.”
Law shrugs lazily, taking a sharp left into the infirmary. “I said I was sorry.”
“You said what?” Shachi exclaims, his eyes wide. There’s a white bandage wrapped around his head, protruding above his left eye where a thicker gauze sits. “I’ve never heard you say sorry, Cap.”
“First time for everything, Shachi.” Law mumbles, pulling on white latex gloves. He approaches his crew member and removes the bandage.
You stand to the side, watching with interest as the injury is revealed. It’s a nasty cut, and you cringe when Shachi merely blinks.
“Not as bad as it looks,” He says when he sees you scrunch your face up. “Doesn’t hurt.”
You nod, not believing him.
“She’s going to stitch you up,” Law comments, gesturing to you. “That okay?”
Shachi tries to raise his other eyebrow, but to no avail. “That’s fine. Just don’t stab my eye out.”
“I won’t,” You say, walking up to him. Law stands back, eyeing how you position your hands over Shachi’s face. “Ready?”
He nods, wiping his palms on his boiler suit. “Go for it.”
“Sew.”
Concentrating, you aim for the first stitch at the end of the cut, your power taking over the rest of the way. It’s easy like this when you have a set path to follow. You glance at Law, who watches you work attentively. His dark eyebrows are furrowed, and you wonder what he’s thinking.
“I have done this on someone before,” You say. “When Zoro went up against Mihawk, I had to stitch his torso back together.”
“Zoro…” Shachi eyes widen. “As in Roronoa Zoro?”
“Yes, dumbass. How’d that go?”
You shrug. “Procedure was fine.”
Law hums, and you know he knows you’re keeping the aftermath quiet.
It takes no time for you to finish the stitches, and with a flick of your finger, the open cut has been reduced to a single line, small sutures tied every four millimetres. It’s clean, and you smile at your handiwork.
“Done,” You exhale, your hands trembling with energy. “Are you okay?”
Shachi beams up at you. “That didn’t hurt one bit. Are you a witch or something?”
You laugh, balling your hands into fists at your sides. Law’s attention has moved to your hands, and you move to hide them.
“Shachi, get out of here,” Law demands, his gaze focused on you.
“Yes, captain.”
You stand idly, anxiety brewing in your stomach as the door clicks shut.
“You okay?”
You consider him for a moment. His timbre is far more concerned than you expected, and you nod.
He squints at you with suspicion. “You’re not. Your hands are still clenched.”
You release them immediately, dried blood smeared on your palms. “It’s nothing.”
“It’s not nothing,” He says. “You need to release your power.”
Shrugging, you sigh and bring your hands up. “I don’t know why it happens.”
Law swallows thickly, studying your palms. “Is that what happened with Zoro?”
You knew he was going to ask. “It was killing me.”
He nods, mulling something over. “We’re docking at the next island.”
“What? Why?”
“You need to get rid of that energy. Otherwise, it’ll keep building up, and you’ll pass out like you did on Amazon Lily, or worse.”
You think back—you did use your power to prevent the rocks from falling on both you and Luffy, and there was a copious amount of blood on your hands when you ran back. The blood. When you finished Zoro’s surgery, the blood on your hands was terrifying, yet you hadn’t touched Zoro at all. The blood.
“You think the blood on my hands comes from me?”
“There’s a possibility,” Law nods. “We’d need to see your power in full force. But I think you’re power is so immense that when you use it in small doses, like stitching someone up, the built-up power that you don’t use has nowhere to go, so it pricks your skin so much that you bleed.”
The words come out of your mouth before you can stop them. “You’re brilliant.”
Law clears his throat. “I just did more study on Paramica fruits. It’s nothing.”
You feel your heart skip a beat. “But, you did more study because you noticed the blood on my hands. I would’ve never thought it’d be about the power I don’t use.”
“It’s my job.”
“You’re stupidly smart, Law,” You laugh, stepping toward the door. “Just take the compliment.”
Law sighs and turns his back to you. He busies himself with attempting to rearrange the shiny equipment trolley. There’s nothing on it.
“See you at dinner?” You call from just outside the doorway, a smirk playing on your lips. It’s fun to embarrass him, though he’d never admit it as such. Trafalgar Law doesn’t get embarrassed.
Law nods before he realises you can’t see him. God, you make him foolish. “Unfortunately.”
— Scene 2 —
“We’re docking!”
“Everybody off. This place reeks.”
The first breath of fresh air after being in the submarine for five days is something you’ll never get used to. You took such a thing for granted on the Sunny, smelling the fresh salty air daily. Now, you treasure it.
The Heart Pirates file off the sub, passing you as they do.
“Where are we?” Penguin asks, coming up behind you to stand beside you.
You shrug. “No idea. I’ve never been in this part of the Grand Line before.”
As far as you can see, it's barren. There’s a cluster of trees in the distance, all tall and menacing, and you can’t help the sense of dread that creeps in.
“I have to make a map.” You and Penguin turn to see Bepo holding a scroll of parchment and a pot of black paint.
“Yeah, have fun with that,” Penguin mumbles, leaving the two of you.
“You want to come with me?” Bepo asks.
“She can’t.”
Bepo visibly deflates. “Captain, you’re gonna make me go on my lonesome? With nobody? What if I fall down a ravine and break my leg?”
“You’ll be fine, Bepo. Now, go.”
“Yes, captain,” He says solemnly, trudging toward the plank.
“I’m happy to go with him, you know.”
Law clicks his tongue. “You’re coming with me. We need to train.”
“Train? Where?” You have a feeling you know the answer.
“There.” He gestures with his chin to the forest.
You sigh harshly and begin walking. “Come on, then. It’ll take a while to get there.”
Law quirks his eyebrow at you.
“What?” You cross your arms over your chest.
“This’ll be tough, okay?” He says lowly. “I need to understand why your power makes your hands bleed. Then, we can work from there.”
“You don’t have to do this,” Law continues like he can sense your unease, “But—”
You grimace. “Okay.”
“Okay?”
You nod and wave him over. “Yes, it’s fine. Now, let’s go, I’ve been waiting to kick your ass all week.”
“I won’t go easy on you, sweetheart,” Law steps on the plank behind you.
You hum, jumping onto the grass. “I don’t expect you to. Besides, my bounty isn’t high for no reason.”
Law pokes the inside of his cheek with his tongue. “Guess we’ll see, yeah?”
“Lead the way, Captain.”
“Is this necessary?”
Law ignores you and continues using shambles to transport various logs and rocks into the clearing you found. The trees are taller than you thought, and you tilt your head to see the canopy.
You understand why he’s doing it, moving obstacles into the area, but for your first time sparring with him, you figured it was a little overkill.
It's silent, except for the leaves rustling in the breeze and insects humming. You've noticed that no birds inhabit the island, making the forest eerie and your hair stand on end.
You turn, feeling like someone’s watching you, before Law reappears, making a beeline for you.
He pulls the hat off his head and tosses it to the side. “Ready?”
You blink, spinning to face him. “Now?”
You ignored the layout of the obstacles.
“Your opponent would’ve attacked you already,” Law deadpans, lifting his hand. “Room.”
You squeak in surprise, leaping back when the blue dome approaches you. “Hey! I have fought before, you know. I know how it works.”
Collecting your thoughts, you throw your hands up, almost tripping on a stray branch. You watch Law across the area; his gaze burns you, and you shiver.
“Sew.”
Threads materialise before you, and you aim for Law’s arms, deflating when he cuts them away easily with his katana.
“You’re gonna need to do a lot better than that.”
You clench your jaw. Oh, so he’s cocky. “Sew.”
“Shambles.”
And then he disappears, a branch hanging in the air and dropping to the ground where he once was. With your head on a swivel, you try to place him. Your threads vanish when they have nowhere to go, and you listen for him.
“Too slow…”
You freeze at the feeling of cool metal across your throat.
“That’s not fair,” You whisper, inhaling sharply and keeping your chest still. You didn’t even hear him.
“How would you get out of this?” He asks, breath hot on your ear. His forearm is firm around your stomach, and his chest is pressed against your back.
You roll your eyes as you slowly weave threads around Law’s ankles. He doesn't make it easy for you, especially with his body flush on yours. Sighing, you lean your head back on his shoulder. You don’t realise just how close Law is until you feel his lips brush the shell of your ear. The sensation sends shivers down your spine.
Law makes a sound of surprise. “What are you doing?”
You use his shock to your advantage, grabbing his right wrist with your left and pulling down. His katana falls forward, and you use needles to pierce his skin with minuscule pricks until he retracts the arm around your torso.
He lets out a grunt of discomfort as you lunge forward, pushing his stomach with your hand. You glance back to see Law fall backwards, the threads around his ankles doing their job. A large needle takes shape in your fist, and you lean over him, the tip against his jugular. Your legs are on either side of his hips, and your free hand is on his chest.
Law smirks, his breathing ragged and eyes dark as he watches you. “Good.”
You lean back, the needle dissipating. “I—”
And then you’re on the ground, looking up at where you just sat, where Law sits on top of you.
You feel your face heat up.
“Never let your guard down,” He says, pinning your arms above your head. “Dead.”
You wiggle your wrists to avert his attention from your bashful expression. “Get off.”
His grip only tightens. “Fight.”
You smirk, noticing his eyes widen when he feels a sharp point at his back. You hold a large needle, the tip scratching his spine. If this were a real-life situation, the needle as thick as a branch would be through his chest. So, you aim your threads at the trees behind Law, tying them to two thick trunks.
“Well, sweetheart?” His voice is low. “What’re you gonna do besides threaten me with an oversized needle?”
“Sew.”
The threads fly toward him, wrap under his armpits and over his shoulders, and pull. Law flies back. Before he hits the tree, he appears next to it, a twig breaking to pieces against the trunk instead.
“Shambles.”
Trusting your instincts, you know he will swap you with the rock in front of him. Lifting your fist, your body is doused with tingles, and then you’re throwing your arm, your fist connecting with his jaw. His head snaps to the side.
“Fuck,” Law spits blood onto the dirt.
You bounce back on your toes. “Not so tough now, huh, big boy?”
Law meets your glare with his own, and you feel the tendrils of your power purring against your skin. The sun pours through the canopy, the shadows dancing under your feet. You choose to use them to your advantage.
Threads snake along the forest floor, and you keep your eyes on Law to distract him. He pants, his hair sticking to his forehead with sweat, and you’re sure you look the same. You stand there, staring at each other, your threads slinking around him. Law’s tongue darts out to catch the blood on his lip before it drips onto his shirt, and he smiles, blood painting his teeth. The sight is unholy, and a shiver goes down your spine.
“Well?”
You continue to say nothing, your eyes trailing down his face to his lips and then further. Law stands there as you blatantly check him out. You never quite realised how tall he is; being in a cramped submarine makes everyone look tall, and maybe it's his terrible posture, too, because when you look at him now, he’s menacing.
You want to climb him like a tree.
You shake your head, remembering where you are. “Sew.”
And then your threads wrap around his body, tightening. You approach him slowly, like a predator with its prey.
“If you wanted to tie me up so bad, you should’ve just asked.”
His comment has you gaping, and then he’s gone, swapping himself with another rock. You sigh and turn around, ducking before he can knock you over.
Your palm shoots out, knocking him in the sternum. Law gasps and grabs your wrist, flipping your body so your chest is against a tree trunk. He stands flush against you. You pant with exhaustion, sweat dripping down the side of your face.
“Go again,” Law growls, stepping back and letting you off the tree. “Room.”
Your face hardens, and you run to put distance between you. “Needles.”
Giant metal needles materialise before you, pointing directly at Law. You see his eyes widen slightly at their speed, but once your needles enter his room, he cuts them down like they’re cooked noodles.
“Again.”
“Fuck you.”
Law’s eyebrow quirks up, a cocky smirk making your skin burn. “Again.”
“Needles.”
“Room.”
A familiar blue dome approaches, and you throw everything you can at him, but he’s quick. Law dodges and weaves through your attacks, slicing through all threads and slashing all needles you send him.
You want to scream with frustration. Law retracts his room, opening his mouth to call out something. But blood slides down your forearms, and something snaps inside you.
You know what’s happening, but you won’t stop it. You won’t use your full potential. Your grip on your ability slips, and your available power runs out, making the needles spin in the air and aim for Law.
“No,” You whisper, trying to pull the needles away from him with the fumes of power you have left in your reserve, but it’s not enough.
Law readies his katana, swiping at the needles as they race towards him like missiles. Usually, you’d see objects fly in different directions after being sliced by him. But, like he didn’t even brush them, the needles continue their path toward Law, and he pauses. “Shambles.”
“Law!” You scream, watching him stumble to the forest floor in a different spot completely.
Sprinting over to him, you put your hands on his chest. That’s when you notice the blood on your hands, and you run your hands over his torso to check for injuries.
“Law?” You murmur, seeing his eyes squeezed shut. “Law.”
“You shouldn’t care for your opponent,” He groans and sits up, his hand rubbing his sternum. “But that was strong. Good.”
Shaking your head, you ignore his stupid comment, your bloody palm over your mouth. “I hurt you.”
“I’m fine.”
“You fell.”
“That was from shambles. Lost my balance.”
You stand on shaky legs. “What if I hit you?”
“You didn’t,” Law follows you up, noticing the blood on your hands. His breath catches in his throat, and he double-checks his body. He’s uninjured.
Law is behind you when you turn, circling to stand before you. “Look at me.”
He speaks your name lowly.
“Look at me,” He repeats, tone coaxing.
You can’t, eyes focused on the blood dripping from your fingers. His hand brushes your cheek, and then his fingers are on your chin, tilting your face to his.
“I’m fine, see,” Law pulls away from you, lifting his arms out to the sides. “You didn’t hurt me.”
“But, the blood,” You say, bringing your hands closer to your face. “There’s so much of it.”
Law closes his palms around your fingers, the blood smearing. “I’m okay, sweetheart, and so are you. We just need to work on using all of your available power, that’s all.”
You look into his eyes, the steel grey of them comforting. A shadow of a smile finds its way to his cheeks, and you exhale shakily.
You won’t be using your full power in front of him.
“You promise?”
Law nods, squeezing your hands tighter. “Promise.”
You breathe in and out, focusing on trying to stop the tears from collecting on your waterline.
Law lowers your hands, releasing them before he steps back and clears his throat, his usual hard exterior like a mask. “Do you want to go back to the sub?”
You shake your head, trying to rub your palms on your pants. “I just want to stay here a bit longer. Don’t want anyone to see me like this.”
“Like what?”
“Like I’m out of control.”
Law sucks his bottom lip into his mouth. He’s thinking, you know that much. And the more you look at him, the more injuries you see. There’s a nasty bruise forming on the side of his jaw where you punched him, as well as dried blood on the corner of his lips, and there’s a little rope burn on the side of his neck. You don’t want to know what you look like.
“C’mon,” Law says, turning and walking away from you.
“Where’re we going?”
“I think there’s a creek down here,” He nods in the direction he’s walking. “We’ll get the blood off you.”
You nod but don’t say anything. Law glances over his shoulder.
“Is that okay?”
“Oh,” You look up. “Yeah, that’s fine.”
Law stops to wait for you to catch up. When you do, he leans his head down. “You were holding back.”
Your shoulders tense. “Why do you say that?”
Law snorts. “Look at how much blood’s on your hands. It’s like a massacre.”
“I didn’t want to hurt you,” You shrug. “Is that a problem?”
“I can handle myself.”
You finally hear the creek he was talking about and ignore him. You haven’t heard the running water in a while despite being underwater. There’s something comforting about gurgling water flowing over rocks.
“Next time we spar,” Law keeps his voice low. “I want to see why your bounty’s so high, okay? Because right now, you’re at 70 million berries.”
You open your mouth to defend yourself, but he continues.
“There’s clearly more to your power than just throwing around needles and thread. I want to see it.”
You let out a shaky breath. “My body will need to rest before I can do that.”
Law nods curtly. “And I respect that. Just don’t go easy on me next time.”
You look at him to see a smirk playing on his lips. Scoffing, you bump him with your shoulder.
The creek comes into view, and you rush to it, dipping your hands in the freezing water to clean your hands. As you scrub, Law sits beside you.
The urge to tell him everything eats at you. You shouldn’t, you really shouldn’t tell him. He’s a rival pirate. But when you give him a sidelong glance and see the content glint in his eye, you break. You hope you don’t regret it.
“I don’t use my true power,” You mumble, hoping he can’t hear you.
Law blinks but leans toward you. You kick yourself when you realise he does. “Why?”
“I’m scared of it.”
He doesn’t say anything, letting you continue.
“My bounty’s so high and has been for years because of the few times I used it.”
“And you’d never use it again?”
You ponder his question. “If the situation calls for it, then I would. But with Luffy, I never have to. We always find a way out of things.”
Law tilts his head, and you can tell there’s something he wants to ask.
“Just say it,” You wave your hand. You’re sure you know what he’s going to ask anyway, so you may as well get it over with.
“Can you use it on me?”
You still. That was not what you were expecting.
“The Sew-Sew Fruit,” Law sits up straighter. “If what I’ve gathered from the abilities you’ve shown me and my research, I can guess that your true power is a mindscape where you can cut objects, people, from this world and sew them into your own. A sort of alternate reality.”
You curse his brilliant mind. “Maybe you’re too smart for your own good.”
“Am I right?”
You keep washing your hands to busy yourself. “I don’t take entire people, only their souls. Why would you want me to use it on you?”
“So I can help you.”
Something tugs on your subconscious, and you try your best to pinpoint it. “Are you crazy?”
“Maybe.” Law puts his hands on your wrists, stopping your rough scrubbing—your hands are clean.
His fingers are rough against yours, and you try your best to think of another topic because you sure as hell aren’t thinking about your power right now.
“What do your tattoos mean?”
Law looks at you surprised. He’s silent momentarily, swallowing thickly before pulling his hands away from yours and running his fingers over his knuckles. You can tell he doesn’t talk about himself much because he mulls over the words he wants to say in his mouth before he does.
“These remind me of what’s at stake when treating patients. Helps keep me calm.”
You stare at the letters, reflecting on what Shakuyaku told you when you were on Sabaody. Trafalgar Law, the Surgeon of Death.
When he doesn’t go on about the others, you don’t ask.
“Cool,” You say, picking a loose thread on your pants.
Law hums, watching your fingers fidget.
You wipe your hands dry on your t-shirt. “Anyway, why do you want me to use Seam on you?”
“Seam,” Law mutters. “Straw Hat said you need to become stronger. I told him I’d help, so I will with the only way I know how.”
“Which is?”
“A hands-on approach.”
You scratch your hairline in an attempt to hide from him. It’s true what Luffy told him because he also told you and your crew. Get stronger.
You cough. “What do you get out of this?”
“Now you’re thinking like a pirate,” Law teases before he shrugs. “Nothing but the satisfaction of helping a friend.”
Friend.
Your stomach churns with discomfort, and you’re unsure why the word burns you so much. It sounds foreign on Law’s tongue. But despite his joking manner, the words he spoke when you first met scolds you from the inside out.
“But I’m just useful to you, right?” You poke your finger into his chest. “What did you call me? Leverage?”
Law sighs, running his hand through his hair. “That was before. It’s different now.”
“Before what?” You ask, standing from the bed of the creek. Law follows, and he towers over you. He swallows, and you can tell he’s deciding whether to tell you. His cheeks go ruddy, and you squint at him in confusion.
“It’s not important.”
“Law.”
It’s hurting him to say it.
“Before—”
“Captain! Quick!”
Law’s head snaps to the side, concern changing his features. You watch him, mind racing at what he could possibly mean about before.
“Bepo?” Law yells. “What’s wrong?”
“We gotta go!” The bear calls from the forest. “The island’s full of giant lizards, and they’re attacking us!”
Law looks unamused but moves anyway, running in the direction of Bepo’s voice and leaving you next to the water.
You stare at the place he just was, your chest tight. You wipe your nose and return to the sub, watching for the giant lizards Bepo warned you about.
It turns out that giant lizards were the codename for Ikkaku’s return. You haven’t bothered to ask why, but you're more anxious about meeting the woman responsible for the maintenance of the submarine.
In the distance, Law stands beside the Polar Tang, his hand on his forehead to shade his eyes from the sun's harsh glare. Above him, a large seagull descends, and on the back of it, a woman.
When you make it to the sub, the bird is gone, and all that remains is Ikkaku. Her dark curly hair is covered with a yellow and orange striped beanie, and she still dons the white Heart Pirates boiler suit. She speaks animately to Penguin as you look around for Law. He must’ve returned to the submarine when you put your head down to watch for sparse rocks.
Penguin calls your name, and you smile. “Hi!”
Ikkaku eyes you up and down, her expression sour. “A Straw Hat, huh? I don’t know what you’re still doing here, but Captain is more than capable of handling whatever it is alone.”
You come up short, watching as she bumps Penguin’s shoulder and walks away. You purse your lips, emotion lodged in your throat. The moment is over before it even begins, and there’s a surge of awkward tension in the air. Penguin clears his throat.
“You didn’t do anything,” He reassures, his hat-shrouded eyes darkening. “Ikkaku doesn't trust you guys. A-And by you guys, I mean the Straw Hats. Her, Uni, and Clione have a thing... I’m sure they'll get over it.”
You hum and pretend the words don’t hurt you the way they do. Shrugging, you fake a laugh. “It’s fine. I’m used to it. I wouldn't trust me either.”
He calls your name as you leave, not sparing a glance in the direction of the group that whispers as you pass by.
Bepo stands idly on the deck, twisting the map in his paws. You raise an eyebrow when he gives you a pitiful look.
"I don't need sympathy, Bepo."
He squeaks and almost rips the paper. "No, no sympathy here."
You give him a tight-lipped smile and pat his arm.
"I'm sorry," He murmurs, hanging his head.
"Wanna go inside?"
Bepo nods and turns, shuffling his feet to the door. His movements make a laugh tumble from your lips, and when he hears, Bepo's eyes are full of hope.
You reluctantly smile and shove him, though it does nothing to sway the tall mink.
"At least you've got me," Bepo says. "I know I'm not much, but—"
"Quit the self-deprecating jokes, Bepo," Shachi coughs from behind you. Penguin stands beside him and laughs. You can tell they're trying to lighten your mood.
You won't admit it, but it works.
"Yeah, you're gonna make the Tang flood with your pathetic tears," Penguin quips, brushing past you and down the stairs to the common area.
Bepo's jaw goes slack, and he pauses mid-step. "I'm sorry."
Chatter from the rest of the crew fills the stairwell, and you grab Bepo's paw to drag him down.
"Don't listen to them," You say, side-eyeing Penguin and Shachi when you pass them on the way to the couch. "They're just jealous that I like you more than them."
"Woah! Rude!"
"That's too far and NOT true!"
Bepo sticks out his tongue, and his two best friends pout.
You shake your head at their antics and wonder how you got so lucky to end up with them as your friends—you'd never say it out loud, but they fill the Straw Hat crew-sized void inside you.
— Scene 3 —
He’s watching you.
If it were anyone else, it’d be unsettling. But Law’s steely grey eyes, usually reserved and cold, turn different when they’re on you. At least, that’s what you tell yourself.
It’s a night off that hasn’t happened while you’ve been aboard, but Penguin and Shachi tell you they're the best nights of the year, and who are you to be doubtful?
So, you are sitting on a couch in the common area, half-focused on the poker game before you. You’re not playing; instead, you choose to observe Bepo struggling to keep the cards in his paws and Shachi sneaking peeks at the ones that slip. A glass of who knows what, courtesy of Penguin, sits between your fingers, but you don’t drink any more of it—he’s very heavy-handed.
Across the room, Law sits on a stray dining chair, his legs spread. He also has a near-full glass, holding it between his open knees as he leans his forearms on his thighs. His hat is lopsided on his head, and his katana is propped against the wall beside him. Jean-Bart talks animately, but you know Law isn’t listening. He’s focused on you, after all.
He asked if you could use Seam on him a week and a half ago, and since then, he’s kept to himself. It’s annoying you.
Your eyes flicker to his, and he doesn’t react. You raise an eyebrow at him, to which he mirrors. Law’s expression remains cold, and you tilt your head in a silent question. You hope he understands you.
Law looks away, and you deflate.
“You want to take my place?” Shachi asks, throwing his cards on the table as his crewmates laugh. Uni, Clione, and Ikkaku remain silent, and you shake your head, disappointed.
“I think I’ll go to bed.”
Penguin boos you from the other side of the table, and Bepo pouts. “You can’t!”
“Sorry, boys,” You force a laugh, setting your glass on the side table beside the couch. “Have fun.”
They all groan and make excuses why you can’t leave while you walk from the room. The stairwell is silent, and you take the stairs quickly. You risk a glance over your shoulder as you rush to your room.
The thought of finally having another woman on board used to make you excited; you were so keen to make another friend, but now it makes you bitter. It seems your reputation precedes you and not in the way you wish. From her comment last week, you guess Ikkaku thinks you’re using Law, but she could be further from the truth. You’ve grown fond of the man, and if you’re reading the signals right, he, you.
An almost inaudible zip and boots clicking behind you make your heart skip; you’re certain Law used Shambles to follow you.
“Yes?”
Law doesn’t speak. Instead, there’s another zip right next to you and another, and then you stumble into his office.
“Why,” You hunch over, panting, “would you do that?”
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.”
“Don’t lie to me.”
You sigh. “Give me a minute.”
Law makes a sound of indignation. “You were fine when we were sparring.”
“I hadn’t been drinking then,” You say, stretching back up.
He looks at you unimpressed. “Are you done?”
You level him with a glare, and when you don’t respond, Law circles his desk.
“What’s wrong?”
“Ikkaku doesn’t like me.”
Law hums and runs his tongue over his teeth. “Yeah, she’s made her dislike known.”
You put your hands out. “What do I do? I’m not staying here if I drive a wedge between you and your crew…”
“You’re staying. I want you here. They can deal with it.”
The underlying desperation in his tone catches you off guard, and you open your mouth to respond when he cuts you off with a different topic entirely.
“When will you be ready to use Seam?”
“Huh?” You blink.
“Will you be ready tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow?” You ask, still grasping the fact that he wants you here. “Where’re we going tomorrow?”
“Bepo said there’s an island ahead,” He says. “I thought it’d be a good opportunity to start your training.”
“We did start.”
“Not with Seam.”
You regret telling him its name. “Fine, yeah, I’ll be ready tomorrow.”
“Repeat it back to me.”
You furrow your brows. “What?”
Law sighs. “Repeat the plan, so I know we’re on the same page.”
“You’ve got issues.”
“Flattery will get you nowhere.”
You gape at him and scoff. You can’t believe him right now, especially after the momentary display of vulnerability.
Rolling your eyes, you groan. “Fine.”
Law tilts his head.
“We’ll train at the next island,” You rehash. “And there I’ll use Seam. Okay?”
“Great,” He smiles.
You narrow your eyes when you see it’s fake. That son of a— “Great.”
“Perfect.”
“Perfect!”
And then you leave, wanting nothing more than to wipe that pretty, cocky smirk off his face.
— Scene 4 —
The Polar Tang docked at the island not twelve hours later.
Your stomach flips with anxiety, your throat thick with nerves. You barely speak, choosing to keep your jaw set to prevent yourself from throwing up.
You know you can pull out at any time, but the thought of holding yourself back any longer makes you seethe. If Luffy wants you to get stronger, then you will.
“You good?”
You let out a shaky breath, looking to your right. The coast of the island is calm, and the sun barely rocks where you stand on the deck. “Should be. Just gotta get the nerves out.”
Law looks over the uninhabited island. “You can say no.”
“I know.”
“You don’t have to do this.”
“Law,” You sigh, turning toward him. His eyes are wide with apprehension, but he relaxes when you rest your fingers on his bicep. “I want to. This needs to happen if I’m to survive in the New World.”
Law raises an eyebrow, still unsure, but nods. “Okay.”
And then he’s gone, appearing 30 feet away on the grass. “Room.”
You jump down from the deck onto the ground, walking into his Room. You’d discussed the entire plan earlier today, hunched over his desk with a pen and paper. You were to summon Seam inside Law’s Room in case the island decides to surprise you with giant lizards (you laughed when Law brought it up) or if something goes wrong. You’re not sure how it would work considering his consciousness inside your mindscape, but if it makes him feel safer, you’re happy to comply.
Law stands there, waiting for you to approach. “Ready, sweetheart?”
You nod, resting your hand on his arm. You inhale sharply and deeply, closing your eyes and calming the nerves, reaping havoc within your stomach.
Law watches you, and somehow, that slows your racing heart. You’re sure it’s something he can do inside Room, but you put that thought aside, focusing on honing your power.
“Seam.”
Law makes a startled sound, and you know he sees the scene before you. Your eyes flicker open, and for the first time in years, you see fragments of the world mending together with your own—the one created by the Sew-Sew Fruit. You’re still in the real world, but you’ve taken Law’s soul in your hands.
You feel him stiffen as his heart slows and his breathing weakens. You hate having someone’s life in your hands like this—maybe you should get Law’s death tattoos inked on your fingers, too.
You transport yourself into Seam, seeing Law walking around aimlessly. His eyes widen as he curses silently, watching the ocean hang from the sky, the Polar Tang floating mid-air.
Seam is a mixture of the current place and all the others you’ve seen. And since becoming a pirate, Seam has grown exponentially. To the right, you see the Going Merry docked in Skypeia, the clouds from the sky island hanging around it. Behind you, there’s a combination of the snowy mountains of Drum Island and the dunes of Alabasta, and to your left sits the Baratie. On the horizon before you, bats fly around, and the mansion on Thriller Bark sits ominously in the distance.
With the ocean above you, it’s easy to see where things are. And beneath your feet is grass. It’s always been grass.
It’s a collection of your memories, you realise. And you tear up at the sight of everything around you. It’s been a long time since you’ve been here.
He whispers your name in disbelief. “This is incredible.”
You shrug one shoulder, not used to Law using such words.
Law spins around and walks toward you. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, are you?”
“I feel weightless,” Law huffs a laugh. “What’s going on outside?”
“You’re dead.”
Law’s look of incredulity drops. “What?”
“Not really, but it seems like you are. When someone’s inside Seam, their soul transfers over, and their body doesn’t. So we’re still on the island, but your body is frozen in a dreamlike state.”
“Can you use this to fight? Can you simply touch someone, and their soul comes here? How many souls can transfer?”
“You’re full of questions today,” You joke, the feeling of being in Seam alleviating the heaviness on your chest. It surprises you. “But to put it simply, yes, yes, and as many as I want, but the more there are, the more it drains me.”
“Wow,” Law breathes, his face to the sky as he studies his submarine. “You seal souls in here.”
The initial relief of being here and nothing bad happening dissipates, and you nod solemnly.
“Yes.”
“You’re incredible.”
You whip your head toward him, the movement quick. “What?”
Law laughs unguarded. It’s a sound you’ve never heard, and you want to bottle it up and keep it forever. “This—you are extraordinary. ”
“I wouldn’t go that far,” Your cheeks are hot.
Who is this man, and what has he done with Law?
“And you don’t use it? Why?”
It’s a loaded question, but Law doesn’t seem to notice your wary expression.
“I—uh, there was an incident.”
Law gives you a quizzical look. “You don’t have to tell me.”
“No,” You nod. “I want to.”
He remains silent, giving you time to collect your thoughts.
“A girl from my island was killed when she was in Seam.”
Law listens intently, pulling you to the floor. You sit across from him, your legs crossed and your knees touching his. The grass underneath you is plush and never itchy. Your fingertips play with the blades of green, but they never rip.
“It was years ago, so don’t pity me, okay?”
He says nothing.
“Pirates attacked my island while I was using Seam on my friend, and because I know what’s going on on the outside, I ran, thinking my friend was following me. I didn’t know that a person’s physical body was unresponsive while they were in there. But because she was basically dead on her feet, and her soul was still in Seam, when the pirate killed her, her soul had nowhere to return to.”
Law’s thinking, you can tell. His eyebrows triangulate, and then realisation overcomes his expression.
“She’s still here.”
You nod and turn, pointing to a small house in the distance. It looks ragged now, but it still fills your heart with grief. It is your old home. “She lives in there. It’s protected against the other souls I bring here, but she remains the age she died.”
“I’m so sorry, sweetheart.”
You shrug. “It is what it is. No use dwelling on the past.”
“Can I use my powers in here?”
“Your Devil Fruit soul is in here, isn’t it?”
He nods. “So, if I use Room…”
“Its power and effectiveness will be depleted, but it will work.”
“So you can fight people with Devil Fruits here. Their power is just weak.”
“Yeah…” You trail off. “But I can also move between worlds and kill them outside when their soul’s in here, trapping them forever. It’s the same here. If I kill the soul, the body dies. Either way, it’s like cutting down someone already dead.”
Law exhales. You know the look in his eye, and your chest tightens.
“You want to use me.”
He sighs. “It’s not like that. I would never force you—I’d need your permission beforehand, of course.”
“What is it?”
Law scratches his forehead. “I’ve had this plan to become a Warlord.”
You freeze with your heart in your throat. A Warlord? “Why?”
“It’s complicated.”
You can tell he’s never told anyone this piece of information before by how he stutters it out—you’ve never seen Law stutter in the few months you’ve lived with his crew.
“If you’re going to use me to get there, I need to know why.”
Law takes your hand. “I’d only bring you with me if you wanted to, okay? There’s no ulterior motive. You’re powerful enough to kill me. This place is proof of that.”
“Prove it to me,” You chew on your lip. “And then tell me your plan.”
He levels you with a wary look that cracks his face open. You’ve known Law to be emotionally constipated; it's a fact, but the face he wears now is one that makes him look younger, one that he’s never shown anyone in a long time.
Law carefully brings his hands to his chest. He whispers something, scalpel. The technique is weak here, but you watch as his chest opens and his heart slides from a square slot. You stare at it in awe.
“I’ve never done this before, given this willingly to someone else, okay?” His voice is wobbly. “Be careful with it.”
And when he places the blue cube in your hands, your eyes fill with tears. His heart sits in your palms; it throbs softly and is warm. So warm.
Then you realise your position: A pirate of a rival crew, holding the heart of a captain who’s powerful enough to become a Warlord. You could easily crush it between your hands, and being inside Seam, you could do it without him interfering. You could save yourself the trouble in the future when you’re back with the Straw Hats. It’s so easy.
You peer up at Law, who remains still, his eyes on yours. You have control of his heart, and he’s staring at you. It’s then you know what this means. What he means to you. You’ve known him for two and a half months, but you would trust him with your life, and it’s obvious he would you, too.
The throbbing of his heart increases, and you giggle in shock at the phenomenon.
It's a monumental moment, you know this, though you feel nothing but anticipation in your chest. Anticipation for the sole reason that Law knows you're powerful enough to help him, and that makes him excited, which in turn, makes you excited.
You love him.
The realisation hits you all at once, and silent tears slide down your cheeks, and when your eyes focus back on him, everything you’ve ever wanted is sitting right before you.
The moment is etching itself into your brain as you sit there, arms shaking with anxiety.
You swallow and exhale deeply. “I trust you.”
“I want to kill the four emperors.”
So much for training, you think as you get back inside the Polar Tang.
After you returned Law’s soul to his body, he asked endless questions. And who are you to turn down someone as eager to learn as he is?
You’ve never seen Law so animated, and judging by the looks on Bepo’s face, neither has he. Law leads you down to his office, the door opposite your bedroom, and clicks it shut behind him.
You sit on a chair facing his desk, fingernails picking the worn leather. “So, what's the plan?”
Law pokes around the bookshelf on the room's far wall, picking out different books. He puts the stack on his desk and sits in his chair. Law grabs the first book on the pile. There’s an air about him that makes your heart swell tenfold—he has a child-like wonder etched into his expression and a giddy dance in his fingers as he flips to a predetermined page.
“I’m going to give the World Government one hundred hearts.”
You're taken aback, leaning forward in the armchair. The way he says it with such an innocent flicker to his tone makes you question if he really just said what he did. “Whose?”
“Pirates,” He pours over the page, using his finger to find the line he’s looking for.
“Isn’t that unethical?”
Law snorts, glancing up at you. “I’m not killing them.”
You purse your lips with slight amusement. “Okay…” Like that makes it better.
“The Marines can decide what to do with the hearts.”
“And how are you doing this?”
Law observes you for a second. “Ever heard of Poneglyphs?”
“Robin told me.”
“Nico Robin?”
You hum. “What about them?”
“I’ve got intel that there's one on an island called Hachinosu in the New World, and we’re going to infiltrate it.”
“Okay, I get that, but why steal the hearts?”
“To get the government’s attention.”
“There’s more to this you’re not telling me,” You say.
Law nods. “Of course there is. But this is a stepping stone in the grand scheme.”
“And what’s the grand scheme?”
“I need to kill someone,” Law mutters. That was easy.
“You don’t mean…”
“Say it.”
“Another Warlord?”
You get your response when he doesn’t answer, and decide to take a different approach.
“What’s this got to do with the Four Emperors of the Sea?”
Law exhales deeply. “Kaido wants to monopolise on SMILE to create a pirate crew solely of Devil Fruit users. Donquioxte Doflamingo runs the factory that produces them on Dressrosa, another island in the New World.”
“Wait,” You close your eyes, mind puzzled. “You’re gonna need to explain the whole thing to me.”
Law turns the book in front of him to show you the page. There’s an illustration of a giant building, in front of it stands a group of people in white coats.
“Twenty years ago, there were scientists on this island, Punk Hazard, who artificially created ancient giants,” He points to an island on the map on the opposite page. “Kaido purchased these giants for his crew at the time.”
Law looks at you expectantly to make sure you’re following. When you nod, exhaling, he continues.
“Two years ago, when the island was being used by Vegapunk, the island exploded when one of his scientists threw a fit with his Devil Fruit, rendering it uninhabitable.
“This year, the poison gas that was on the island as a result of that scientist’s rage dispersed. After Marineford, it was the site of Aokiji and Akainu’s battle. But, if I’ve heard correctly, there are plans to restore Vegapunk’s laboratory and start producing a substance called SAD, which can be used to make SMILE or man-made Devil Fruits. Kaido is the mastermind behind this since he took the original giants from the scientists before Vegapunk. Therefore, I need to become a Warlord to have unrestricted access to and destroy the site.”
He’s got this all figured out.
“So, who's the Warlord you want to kill?”
“Donquixote Doflamingo.”
You ponder it. “Why?”
“Revenge.”
“And what do I get out of this?”
Law runs his eyes over you. “Think of it as helping a friend. We help each other reach our goals. Me, killing Doflamingo, and you, stronger than you’ve ever been.”
You consider his proposition, pursing your lips when he rehashes what he said on Lizard Island.
Helping a friend. You wonder if it’s something he says to every pirate he makes an alliance with, but you doubt it. You’ve been on his submarine long enough to know that that word isn’t in this man’s vocabulary—you wonder what it means to him.
It’s a huge plan, one that could fail at any time, and sure, there are things he’s not telling you—like how the Poneglyphs and Doflamingo are correlated, perhaps they’re not—but you know your answer. You’ve always been a sucker for revenge plans.
Before you tell him, you ponder how your crew is going, if they’d be scared that you’re even considering helping someone become a Warlord. You think about the ones you’ve defeated or fought before: Crocodile, Blackbeard, Moria, Bartholomew Kuma. But there’s a few that helped you. Boa Hancock is the main woman on your mind, and you smile. You hope Luffy’s okay.
So, your decision is an easy one. You smile. “When do we start?”
— Scene 5 —
Bepo knows something’s going on. He sees the silent conversations between you and his captain and the meetings in Law’s office. At first, he thinks nothing of it since Law’s training you, But when he watches you and Law whisper in a crowded room, his poor little heart can’t take it any longer.
“So, you and Law…”
You don’t look up from the map Bepo has you outlining. “What about me and Law?”
“Are you… you know…”
When you glance at him, the fur on his cheeks is tinted red. “What are you talking about?”
Bepo squeaks. “Is there something going on?”
Your hand pauses on the page. “Like what?”
“Something… you know,” Bepo whines. “Don’t make me say it.”
“Bepo, I couldn’t make you say anything. I don’t even know what you’re referring to.”
“Are you kissing?” He slaps his paw over his mouth.
You gape at him, your face heating up. “What? No!”
“I’m sorry!” Bepo cries.
You sit awkwardly with your face in your hands, having dropped the pencil at his question.
“Talk to Law if you’re so concerned about it,” You say, dropping your hands to your lap. “But never ask that again.”
Bepo stands from the table, his chair scraping. “I’m sorry!”
And then he runs from the room. You stare at where he just sat, contemplating if you and Law looked like that from an outsider’s perspective. Surely, you have countless meetings about the mission and training at almost every possible island the submarine encounters, but that’s all business. Your body warms like it's trying to rid itself of a virus.
You rest your forehead on the table. If the Heart Pirates think something like that is happening, the alliance between you and Law will never work. He can’t have his crew distrusting him.
There’s a crackling through the speakers.
“Meeting in the common area in 5. I won’t tell you again.”
When you get there, the crew is packed inside. You spot Bepo near the front of the room and push through pirates to get there; all of them are happy to let you through. You wonder if they think you’re only here for one reason. The thought disgusts you.
“We have a new objective,” Law announces. “To kill Domflamingo, a Warlord status must be achieved.”
The Heart Pirates gasp and start murmuring. A few pirates, namely Uni, Ikkaku, and Clione, who you’ve yet to have a proper conversation with, eye you with disdain. They clearly have a problem with you, a Straw Hat, being here, but you give them a tight-lipped smile and look back to Law.
He looks at you and says your name. “We’re forming an alliance. She has Devil Fruit powers that could make the process quicker. Therefore, we’ll be working together for the foreseeable future. We leave for the New World now.”
Your smile is still a thin line, but you know why he had to tell him—they’re his crew, after all.
“So get your shit together,” He glares at the three pirates who regard you with contempt. “Back to work.”
A collective yes, captain rumbles through the room before they go back to their tasks.
“And Bepo,” Law says, his voice low. “Get your head out of the gutter.”
Bepo whines and then sulks as he leaves, his head down. Penguin and Shachi bump his shoulders, snickering. You shadow them down to the boiler room, your steps light and calculated.
It was a technique Law taught you, how to keep your steps silent. Your training has been more beneficial than you imagined—Zoro will be so proud of your stealth skills—and you still have much to learn.
Seam has been easier each time you summon it, and the thought of doing so now brings little to no negative emotions. You’ve learnt to embrace the technique instead of fearing it—as you said, there’s no use dwelling on the past.
Two weeks isn’t a lot of time, but you reiterate the plan in your mind every available moment Bepo has you watching him work instead of making you outline islands. It’s all you think about before you sleep and when you wake up. That and Law.
You shake your head. There’s no time to think about him when the most important year of your life is about to begin.
Your mother always told you that if you risk nothing, you’re risking everything. And if you and Law are to stop Doflamingo and whatever he has over Law’s head, it’s only a matter of time before you must decide what is worth risking for the sake of humanity.
— Scene 6 —
“Docking!”
The submarine surfaces at a random island in the New World. You’re the first to emerge from the entrance, and people stare at the submarine with suspicious glares. You pay no mind.
It’s been three months since Law told you his plan and three months since your hands last bled. The Heart Pirates are on their way to Hachinosu Pirate Island, where the Poneglyph is, and Law recommended a trial for the heart-stealing scheme. The victim is some lowly pirate named Seamus Wells.
Since you’ve entered the New World, you’ve used Seam far more than you ever thought you would, no longer holding back your true power. The mere thought of showing your crew what you’ve become fills you with such anticipation that you can barely contain it nowadays.
Bepo runs past you, the plank of wood in his paws. He slams it down on the concrete, causing a few civilians to flee in terror. “Oops.”
“Seamus Wells should be staying on the island's east side,” Law announces as his crew files onto the deck. “Keep away from there, understand?”
Yes, captain.
“We’ve got five hours to kill before we need to be there,” He says, adjusting the katana on his shoulder. “Do whatever you want.”
You raise your eyebrows. “You’re not coming?”
“I’d rather stay here than be recognised and jeopardise our plan. Here,” He fishes a baby transponder snail from his coat. “Take this. I’ll let you know if the plan changes.”
You take it from him, noticing the patterned hat on its head, which is similar to the one that sits on Law’s. “That’s so cute.”
“Shut it,” Law snaps, his cold exterior never wavering. “Bepo, accompany her.”
“Doubt she needs an escort, but okay,” Bepo jokes, pulling you with him off the sub.
Law turns, pausing to scan the rear of the submarine with his sharp eyes before he goes inside.
Guess he’s all business today.
“Come on, are you hungry?”
You smile at the polar bear, dragging your gaze away from Law’s retreating figure. “I could eat.”
Penguin cuts in, his steps aligning with yours. “I’m starving.”
“Me, too,” Shachi groans.
Bepo shakes his head. “Why’re you two here?”
“Captain told you to accompany her, and we’re accompanying you.”
Bepo opens to mouth to reply, most likely a complaint, but you point to a restaurant in the distance and a line of people outside. “Let's go there.”
Penguin and Shachi’s steps increase, and then they are running toward the building. There are a few stray screams, but most people disappear when you join the end of the line.
“What’s their problem?” Bepo stills beside you, and you look up at him. “What?”
“Look.”
Your face and Law’s hang on the wall of the restaurant entrance, and an obscene number of berries are listed below your names. Wanted posters.
“They know you’re working together.”
“I got that,” You snap, the mere presence of the posters souring your mood. Cursing under your breath, you feel your chest tighten. “But the Straw Hats are meant to be dead.”
“We should go back to the sub,” Penguin mumbles, his eyes darting in every direction. When you turn to see where he’s looking, you glare at the civilians approaching slowly with firearms. There aren’t many; you count fifteen minimum, but the fact that you’ve been here less than twenty minutes has irritation morphing your features.
“They’re not meant to know I’m alive.”
Bepo whines beside you. “We gotta go.”
“Okay, in a second.” You take a second to inspect yours. 400 million berries.
You pout in confusion. When did that increase?
And then you slide your eyes to Law’s. 450 million berries.
You smirk before you notice the whispering occurring around you. Perhaps if you saw them in your own time and not in front of a large group of civilians, you’d taken them down and show Law. There is only a 50 million berry difference.
The others are already down the road when you decide to leave the line, your nerves simmering.
If the world knows a Straw Hat is alive, you may as well embrace it.
“Hurry up!”
You twist your lips, stopping in the middle of the street to observe the civilians.
“Get outta here, pirate!” “Yeah! Unless you want your head on a stick.”
You feel a pang of regret in your chest at the fear on their faces but continue toward the Polar Tang.
There are quick, heavy footfalls behind you. In the distance, you see Law standing on the deck, watching you. His face remains emotionless, but you see a familiar glint in his eye.
When the person swings their weapon, you dodge swiftly, moving your head slightly to the left. You have yet to face them, but you can imagine the gobsmacked look on their face.
You refuse to fight a civilian, instead choosing to break out into a sprint toward the submarine.
“Took you a while,” Law teases. “I was starting to get worried.”
You stick your tongue out, crossing the wood plank to jump onto the deck. “Awww, you care about me?”
“Tsk,” Law turns around, cheeks warming. “We’re going to dock elsewhere.”
You hop down the stairs, preparing yourself for the jolt of the entrance closing. The sub immediately submerges, and Law touches your shoulder to keep you steady.
“Guess what I saw,” You bite back your smile.
“Enlighten me.”
“My bounty’s gone up.”
Law smirks, glancing at the barely contained smile on your face. “Oh, yeah?”
“400 million.”
He whistles lowly. “Soon, you’ll be in the big league, sweetheart.”
You knock his bicep with your shoulder. “Okay, Mr 450 million.”
“Captain! The east side of the island is approaching.”
“Surface there,” Law replies without taking his eyes off you.
His voice lowers. “We’re moving the mission forward. The island’s already aware of our presence. May as well get it over with now.”
“Docking!”
“Let’s go.”
Seamus Wells works in a fish factory. The sun sets behind you as you step through discarded fish guts and bones, the floor slathered with sticky blood. You hold your hand over your nose and mouth, the smell enough to make you gag.
Law strides ahead of you, the scabbard that holds his katana reflecting the deep gold of the sun. How he’s walking through here fine is unknown to you, but you try to catch up with him, the soles of your boots slipping slightly.
“You’d think they’d have a better way of managing this,” You murmur. “Poor fish.”
“Quiet.”
You frown, mocking him. A crack from the floor above makes your face drop.
Law stops ahead of you, his hand out, his index finger pointed. You know the gesture. Shut the fuck up, and don’t move.
His head turns slowly until you see his sidelong glance on you. There are no further sounds, and you hold your breath.
You realise the sun goes down fairly quickly on San Faldo, and the night air wafts over your skin, leaving goosebumps in its wake. It’s suddenly dark, and the waves against the wharf outside have settled.
Unease stews in your stomach, and you resist the urge to run. You don’t dare look behind you in fear of what you may see, focusing your eyes on the staircase in the corner. Across from you, Law senses your discomfort, and his steps are light and calculated as he makes his way over to you.
You grasp his hand, chills going down your spine as the wind whistles through a crack in the broken window on the far wall. The scene reminds you of Thriller Bark, and you set your jaw in an attempt to stop shivering.
Law’s hand is big and warm in yours, his skin calloused. His head is on a swivel, monitoring for any danger. You grip harder, moving your other hand to the crook of his elbow.
And despite the terror coursing through your veins, you can’t help but take note of the hard muscle. It’s a good distraction but not important right now, and you almost laugh at your ridiculousness. Law looks down at you, a quizzical twinkle in his eye, but he doesn’t move an inch.
You shake against him, the breeze finding its way under your clothes, and notice that you can see it when you breathe. When did the temperature drop so drastically?
Law points upstairs, to which you do nothing. If he was expecting a response, he didn’t get one. Then, he raises his hand.
“Shambles,” He whispers, and you almost lose your balance as you land at the foot of the stairs.
“Don’t make any unnecessary noise,” Law leans to whisper in your ear, and you shiver.
You silently salute, choosing to lighten the mood with a silly gesture that he blinks at. Law makes to go up the stairs, ignoring your gesture. Panic takes hold of your chest, and you tug him back into you.
“What’re you doing?”
Law scrunches his face. “Me? What’re you doing?”
You squeak when there’s a scuffle. Clearly, over it, Law sighs and takes the stairs two at a time. And since he knows you won’t stay downstairs alone, he isn’t surprised when you chase after him, your hand returning to his forearm.
What you see is nothing short of disgusting.
“What the fuck.”
The man, who you know is Seamus, sits on a wooden chair, fish blood soaking his clothes.
“Keep away from me!”
“Seriously?” Law utters, unimpressed.
“Stay back!”
You scowl. “And to think I was scared shitless.”
Law steps away from you. “Room.”
A familiar blue dome covers you. Law draws his katana from its scabbard, its sleek design glinting in the moonlight. He slices the air, and Seamus is dismembered, his head floating a few feet above his body.
Seamus screams, noticing his body sitting in the chair headless. “Don’t kill me!”
Law makes quick work of the fish blood, using his power to remove it from Seamus’ clothes. You watch in awe as the white of the t-shirt turns pristine.
You’ve told Law of your admiration for his Devil Fruit powers. He usually waves it off with pink-tinted cheeks and an unamused expression. But watching something like this in action, you want to know just how deep his power goes.
“Please! I’ll do anything,” Seamus sobs, tears and snot coating his face. “Please don’t kill me.”
“As you’ve said, asshole,” Law steps back and retracts room. “Your turn.”
You feel your icy cheeks defrost at the realisation of his actions. You give him a smile of appreciation and approach Seamus.
But when he looks at you, his crying ceases. “What’re you gonna do, huh? Slap me with those little hands? You should let your boyfriend do the work.”
Law grunts behind you, but you cock your head, pointedly ignoring the boyfriend call.
Seamus chokes out a laugh between his hiccups. “You don’t scare me.”
You shrug and place your hand on his greasy hair. “Seam.”
He goes limp in the chair, his eyes rolling to the back of his head.
“Can I have fun with him while you’re in there?”
“Go ahead,” You joke before transporting into Seam.
Seamus’ wails echo through your mindscape when you get there. It’s changed, and you give the scene a look of disgust. Thanks to Seamus, the walls of Seam are painted red, fish blood dripping from the Sunny, coagulating on the sands of Alabasta, and staining the seas of the East Blue. You curse him for tainting your memories.
He’s running toward the house, and you claw your hand. “Sew.”
He’s yanked back, a thick thread wrapped around his neck. He struggles against it as you pull him toward you, and when he gets a glimpse of you, he screams.
Needles materialise in your hands, and you slam one of them down just in front of his crotch, to which his eyes bulge out of his head.
“You were talking such a tough game out there, Seamus. What happened?” You'd surely crack a few teeth if you clenched your jaw any harder. “You even said I wasn’t scary, yet you screamed when you saw me.”
He says nothing, but his throat is starting to become raw.
“You’ve ruined Seam with your stupid, fishy blood tactic,” You complain, sinking the second needle into the grass beside his foot, just knicking the edge of his shoe. “Now, it's all I’m gonna see for the next few weeks.”
Sighing, you consider him again, groaning when you see that the front of his pants is darker than the rest.
“Ergh,” You scrunch your nose. “I’m gonna leave now. My job’s done.”
“Don’t kill me!”
When you transport out of Seam, you see Law position his hand for scalpel, and you immediately remove your fingers from the strands of hair.
“Oh,” You roll your lips between your teeth when you circle the chair. You told Law to make a masterpiece, and he did, albeit a little psychotically.
Law has a callous smile playing on his lips, and the sight is utterly intoxicating. The first time you saw the expression and vacant silver gaze, you understood why they call him the Surgeon of Death—the man is simply brutal. When you first met him, you thought his blood ran cold, but you hadn’t met the man Shakky spoke of until he took the first heart of one hundred. Initially, he scared you, but now, you’re terribly and irrevocably fascinated by him. If only those people knew the side of him that you did.
“Have fun in there?”
“Looks like your fun puts mine to shame.”
Seamus’s chest is raw, his skin in strips. That’s all you see before you look away.
“Do it,” You say. “And make it painful.”
Law coughs a laugh. “Feeling a little sadistic, are we?”
You arch an eyebrow. “People like him deserve it.”
He hums and turns his attention back to Seamus, and you watch as a cube emerges from his chest. It floats into Law’s palm, and he gives it a little squeeze. He observes the body before him writhe in pain, but no noise escapes—Seamus’ soul is still in Seam after all.
Law hums. “Not as satisfying.”
Clicking your tongue, you remove Seamus from your mindscape, and the room fills with shrieks. You wince, your shoulders raising to your ears.
“Okay, we’re done,” You say, spinning and making a beeline for the stairs. “C’mon, Hachinosu is waiting for us.”
Law shoves the heart into his coat and pries his eyes from his victim.
— Scene 7 —
Your eye twitches as you watch a pirate sock Bepo in the face. You’ve been put on rest before the mission in Hachinosu. Law told you to save energy for it, so you follow his professional instructions.
On the way to the drop-off point, a ship started bombing the submarine, hence why you’re cringing as Bepo takes another hit.
You stand on the deck of the Polar Tang while the Heart Pirates fight. They looked to be rookies when they attacked the Polar Tang, but you know not to underestimate rookies, especially since you’re a Straw Hat, so when Penguin joked that it was going to be an easy battle, you arched an eyebrow and shook your head. Oh, how wrong he was.
Now, Penguin lays on the ground holding his arm. You’re sure it's broken.
“Get up, Penguin!” You yell. “Thought this was gonna be easy! We’re in the New World!”
He whines, rolling on the dirt. “Shut up!”
An explosion rocks the submarine, and you teeter, making a sound of surprise. Your feet slide on the salty deck, waves from the impact crashing over the left side. Another cannonball lands not 20 feet away, and you start to panic. “Guys!”
Law gave you strict orders to not use your power—ever the responsible doctor. But with how things are going, you’ll be breaking his rules.
“Fire!” The voice is muffled by the waves, but you hear it.
“Sew.”
Threads weave together before you until they form a giant sheet, into which the airborne cannonball falls. Using one of Luffy’s offensive techniques, you fling the bomb back toward the ship it came from. Cries and screams echo before it turns the deck to splinters.
“Hey!” Law calls, his voice gruff. “I thought I told you not to use that.”
You turn to see him on the ground beneath the sub. “Sorry, my life was in danger.”
“You’re never in danger,” Law quips. “Not with me around. Now, go inside.”
“Inside?” Your heart skips a beat. Not with me around.
“You’re less likely to use your power,” He dodges an attack, his katana in his hands as he swipes at them. “Please, go.”
Sighing, you follow his orders—but only because he said please.
It’s not long before the rest of the crew piles inside. But you see Law holding something white and mangled instead of his proud smirk. You tug your eyebrows together and draw closer to him.
“What’s that?” You ask warily, having a feeling you know. Considering his head is bare, his black tendrils standing on end, your heart drops. “Oh, Law.”
He sniffs. “Nothing to worry about. Just a hat.”
You know he’s lying, but nod anyway and leave him.
Bepo’s solemn face haunts you. He follows you around, not knowing what to do when his captain is heartbroken.
“How’s your jaw?” You ask, remembering the punch.
“Oh, I'm fine. Nothing I can’t handle.”
You look over at Ikkaku, who still holds a grudge against you, but her gaze is softer than usual this time.
You give her a smile—an olive branch, despite not doing anything to offend her other than being on the submarine, and bearing the values of your crew. She gives you one back, and you take it as an appreciation for using your power to save the Polar Tang from the cannonballs. Uni and Clione sit beside her with the same reluctant gratitude. You take it as a win.
The more you think about it, the more the whole ship seems on edge. The crew’s footsteps are light, and the common area is not nearly as rowdy as usual. One wrong move and Law will crack.
So, you take it upon yourself to be the first one to disturb him in his office. He’s been locked in there for hours, and since your bedroom is directly opposite, it only makes sense—at least that’s what you're telling yourself.
You rap your knuckles on the door three times, slowly opening it after. “Law.”
The room is dark, and you hold your tongue when a joke surfaces in your mind.
“I don’t want to talk right now.”
You step further in. “Are you okay?”
Law makes no sound.
“If this is about your hat—”
“Leave me alone.” His voice is so broken that it hurts your chest.
“I could fix it.”
He says your name softly. “Please, leave.”
You swallow and nod once. “Of course… sorry for bothering you.”
On your way out, you spot the cause of his distress sitting on the table. You clench your fists to resist the urge to take it, but the voice in your mind wins, and you snatch it.
You rush from the room, and if Law sees you, he says nothing.
When you get to your room, you lock the door behind you. The fur hat in your hands is covered in dirt and specks of blood, and it's utterly ruined. You curse at the state of it.
You lay the pieces on your bed, figuring out how to piece them back together. It takes a few tries, but once you’ve got a design that works, you put your hand over the material.
Immediately, the sections come together, forming a brim at the front instead of around the bottom like the original hat. It’s different, but you work with what you’ve got.
You hold it in your hands once it’s formed and smile. Deep in your stomach, there’s an inkling of doubt that Law won’t accept it, but you hope he can appreciate the effort.
You keep the hat to yourself for the night, not wanting to impose Law anymore. When the first sounds of the crew rising from their slumber wakes you, you’re quick to dash to the infirmary. Law’s in here every morning, and when you open the door, you’re not shocked to see him. What is jarring is the lack of his signature hat in the room—the one you’ve got under your arm.
“Morning,” You greet, hiding the garment from his view. Law grunts, not bothering to look up from the paper he scribbles on. “I’ve got something for you.”
“If it’s one of Shachi’s new breakfast foods, I don’t want it.”
You roll your eyes. “I’d never subject you to that.”
Law exhales a laugh.
“This is far more important than that, anyway,” You walk up behind him. “Turn around.”
He shakes his head. “I’ve got a lot of work to do, sweetheart. Can it wait?”
“Nope,” Smiling, you put your hand on his shoulder. Law sighs and glances at you.
The look on his face is one you’ll never forget.
“Wha–”
You suppress a giggle and shove the hat in his face. “I fixed it for you.”
Law turns, his eyes wide. He takes the hat from your hands, the soft material delicate in his grip. He’s speechless.
“I took it from your office last night, and I know I shouldn’t have, but you were so upset.”
He shakes his head in disbelief.
This lack of speech makes you nervous. “I know it’s not the same as it was before. There was no way I could salvage enough of it to do that, so now you have a brim. I think it looks cute, but—”
“Shut up.”
You come up short, immediately closing your mouth. The infirmary falls silent, with you no longer rambling and Law standing there in shock, hearts in his eyes.
“Law—”
“Thank you.”
His words have an underlying connotation; you just know it, and how he looks at you confirms it.
You make a sound of surprise, your body freezing. You swear he can hear your heartbeat from how loud it is in your ears. “What?”
His gaze of adoration quickly fades when he sees your shock. He drops the hat on the trolley and turns back to his desk. “Are you hungry? I’m sure breakfast is ready.”
You don’t know what he’s saying. You’re not listening. I love you, I love you.
The tension between you is suffocating, weighing heavily on your chest. “Law.”
He lets out an awkward laugh, unsure what to say.
“Look at me, Law.”
“I can’t,” He whispers.
You tilt your head. “Why?”
“Because you don’t need to see me like this.”
“Like what?” Your tone grows hard. “Like you have feelings?”
He glares you.
“You have a heart, Law. I see it every day,” You say. “So don’t pretend like you’re some cold, heartless man because you’re not.”
When he doesn’t answer, you go on. “Do you need proof? I used to think you only picked me up in Sabaody because I was useful to you—”
“—you were—”
“—you wanted to help me, and you did. Because you’re kind, Law. You want to help people; otherwise, you wouldn’t try to kill the four emperors.”
“And if I said it was purely selfish?”
“I’d say you’re lying. Because despite this revenge plan you have for Doflamingo, you don’t want him hurting anyone else. You care for people.”
“Of course, I care for people,” Law snaps. “I wouldn’t be a doctor if I didn’t want to help others.”
You shrug. “Need I say anymore?”
“I’ve work to do.” Law murmurs, his eyes downcast and tongue in his cheek.
You know when you’re being dismissed, so you hum and turn to leave, but not without noticing the tight grip he has on the fur hat.
— Scene 8 —
Hijacking a ship is out of your expertise, especially a smuggling vessel.
When you and Bepo spot the ship in the distance from the deck of the Polar Tang, its lights bright in the darkness, you immediately notify Law.
“Are you sure it's the one?”
“Yes,” You groan. “Who else is out this far? Besides, there are no other ships around.”
Then, Hakugan directs the submarine toward the ship.
Law shambles you and Bepo onto the vessel, where the pair of you are to distract someone and take control. It takes a while for you to remember what Law said as you and Bepo wander the ship. Somehow, you find yourself in the same place you started. The deck is empty, though there are lights on inside.
“Where and to whom are we meant to do this again?”
Bepo shrugs. “I was too scared to listen.”
“Oh my g—”
“This way, Sir.”
You jump behind a pillar, pulling Bepo with you, though you doubt he's hidden.
Behind you, several more footsteps approach, but this time, it's Shachi and Penguin with Uni, Clione, and Hakugan.
“Captain and Hakugan have seized the control room,” Penguin says. “No thanks to you two.”
You gape. “Not my fault his instructions were shit.”
“This way, we have to protect Captain.”
This way. You look back in the direction of the man who passed you before. Why would you call someone Sir on a smuggling vessel?
You keep your mouth shut for the moment, following Penguin to the control room. When you get there, there’s an unconscious man on the floor, and when you look at Law, he’s pressing buttons, ignoring the looks from Hakugan, who steers the ship.
“Are we on course?”
Law side-eyes you as Hakugan answers. “Yes.”
“I, uh,” You start, averting your eyes. “Had a question.”
“Out with it,” Law mumbles.
The pirates around you listen in, curious.
“Are there meant to be this many people on a smuggling vessel? Especially noble-like people?”
Law’s head spins around, his eyes dark. “What?”
“This guy was leading another guy somewhere, and he called him Sir,” You bite your lip. “I was just wondering if that’s normal for a —”
“Fuck,” Law curses loudly. “You imbeciles, this is a passenger ship.”
Bepo gasps, looking faint. “Oh, we really messed up.”
Your jaw falls open, and Bepo grabs you, wrapping his arms around you. “Take me to your dreamland. I can’t be here.”
“Where did you see these people?”
“Umm, back down on the main deck.”
Law grits his teeth. “You said this was the ship.”
“To be fair, it’s dark, and this ship was far—”
He pushes past you and out the door. The control room is quiet, save for Bepo’s whimpers. The familiar zip of shambles sounds outside before Law reenters.
“We’re heading for Hachinosu already.”
“That’s good, right?”
“Yes, Bepo,” Law mumbles, leaning over the control panel. “We’ll be there much earlier than expected.”
“Why don’t you sound happy about that?” You are hesitant to ask.
“Because,” He turns to look at you directly. “The king and nobles of Hachinosu are on this ship.”
Bepo almost drops to the ground, Penguin shoving himself under the mink’s arm. “You’re kidding me.”
“We’ll have to lay low,” Law addresses his crew. “Draw no attention to yourself, and don’t tell anyone who you are. Understood?”
Yes, captain.
Law rubs his forehead, mumbling curse words to himself.
He says your name. “I know this is a big favour to ask, but is there any way you could create casual clothes for the crew? I wouldn’t ask if it weren’t absolutely necessary, but knowing this crew…”
“How long until we reach the island?”
“One day.”
You purse your lips. “Give me two hours.”
Two hours is enough time for you but too much for the rest of the crew. As you finish the last garment, Penguin’s pants, there’s a sudden scream from below the main deck.
Law inhales sharply, his jaw set. “If that’s—”
“Shachi, this is your fault,” You hear Penguin through the door of the control room. You glance at Law, whose eyes narrow. “Fuck, run.”
Hakugan, Uni, and Clione burst through the door, Penguin, Jean-Bart, and Shachi close behind them. Law holds his tongue, anger simmering in his gaze.
The door slams shut, and the rumbling of voices outside increases.
“Don’t tell me you did what I told you not to do.”
Shachi grimaces. “We didn’t do it on purpose, Captain…”
“Morons, the lot of you,” Law snaps. “If the King of Hachinosu knows we’re here, he knows why we’re here, and he won’t stop until all of us are dead, got it?”
Penguin gulps. “What do we do?”
“Pirates!”
Law groans with frustration. “Room and Shambles.”
You hit the deck, literally. You’re outside, and the chaos of the passengers is on the other side of the ship. Bepo moans in pain beside you, and Law stands in the middle of his crew.
“Stay here, and don’t make a sound.” He flicks his fingers again, and then he’s gone.
Penguin sighs, rubbing his head. “He made that hurt on purpose.”
Shachi hums in agreement, and you roll your eyes.
“Maybe if you two weren’t so loud, we wouldn’t be in this mess,” Bepo mumbles, glaring at his best friends.
“Says you! We can’t go a day without hearing you whine,” Shachi quips.
Bepo makes a sound of indignation. “That really hurts me, you know that?”
“Yeah, well—”
“Stop,” You whisper, noticing a presence nearby. The crew freezes, and Bepo turns to you, terror morphing his features.
“Sew.”
“Argh!”
You push yourself up, walking directly to where your threads caught someone. A man in his late 30s resists Sew's hold on him.
“You dirty pirate! Get this off me!”
You stare at him. He’s dressed fairly well, with a white suit and gold accents. A noble.
“Hey! I see you! Get away from me!”
Pursing your lips, you decide what to do. In his hand, obscured by the long train of his jacket tail, is a handgun.
“Hey—” You throw your hand up, wrapping threads around his mouth in case he draws attention.
He screams against the cotton, his finger squeezing the trigger of his gun. You duck, and the bullet flies off the metal railing. Still, you remain silent.
You hear Bepo call your name and wince. Now, this guy knows who you are.
The man’s eyes widen, and he starts tugging his arms, his gun tumbling to the deck in his struggle. He cries out when he sees it close to your feet.
You tilt your head, considering him and your plan of action. He did just try to shoot you.
He knows your name, who you are, and what you’re doing on the ship (if he knows about the Poneglyph on Hachinosu).
You toss up your options. On one hand, he is a civilian. On the other, he knows that it were you on the ship tonight, subduing him. Who knows what the newspaper will write about you if that gets out. You hurt innocent civilians?
Nothing about this man is innocent, that’s a fact, but standing here, staring at him, you don’t know what to do.
It isn’t until you hear Law ask where you are back with the crew that you release a breath. Law comes over, his eyebrows tugged together.
“What’s up with this guy?”
“I don’t know what to do with him.”
The man cries, tears running down his cheeks and over the threads covering his mouth. Law frowns.
“Why don’t I just take his heart and be done with it? He’s a pirate himself.”
You give the man a once over, still processing what just happened. “He shot at me.”
Law eyes go cold as he cocks his head, regarding the noble with indifference. “This will only hurt a little.”
You watch as he uses Scalpel, the man’s heart sliding from his chest. He passes out.
Law turns back to you, shoving the heart into his coat. “You okay?”
“I’m fine,” You nod. “Just didn’t know what to do.”
“That’s okay. You did good nonetheless.” And then he wraps his fingers around your hand to whisk you away.
“Wait,” You exhale, looking back at the man’s unconscious body. “There.”
A piece of paper sticks out of his pants pocket. It’s small, only half the size of a normal map, but you rush over to it. Unfolding it, you recognise the style.
“Law.”
As he approaches, his boots click on the deck, peering over your shoulder. “What is that?”
“A map,” You whisper, turning it around to get a better angle of the island it represents. “If this is Hachinosu…”
“It could be where the Poneglyph is,” Law mumbles, pointing to the skull in the middle of the paper. “But why would a noble have access to this?”
You shrug. “Maybe it’s a part of their plan. I mean, he did come out here alone…”
Law hums with consideration, his gaze flickering to yours. There’s a glimmer of something behind his usual icy front, and you’re lucky you’re close enough to see it.
“You’re right. We’ll take it anyway, but be careful tomorrow. Who knows what they’ve got planned for when we arrive.”
— Scene 9 —
The crick in your back flares, as you hurry off the ship—sleeping upright in the control room is taking its toll on you. After Law took the noble’s heart, you and the crew were sent to the control room to sleep. Law said he took care of the remainder of the passengers… whatever that meant.
Law isn’t far behind you, but the rest of the crew is already on the island, fighting off pirates.
Now, you’re to find the site of the rumoured Poneglyph in the middle of the island. You take a different route to everyone else in case anyone is seized. With the map from the noble clutched in your fist, you run.
“Go left! I’ll take the right.”
Nodding, you veer toward the large building on the port, hand out to summon threads to restrain the men running at you. Their swords slash at the strings, but you’re gone before they free themselves.
An explosion makes you stumble as you enter a warehouse, men with guns pointed at you the moment you step inside. “Seam.”
The eyes of the gunmen immediately go dazed, and they lower their guns involuntarily—you can feel the addition of them to your mindscape. Fifteen. You gasp at the fact that it actually works.
Seam has evolved. You’ve only used it once, summoned the ability without physically touching someone, and it was shoddy at best. What you did now was a shot in the dark. There’s no way you knew it would work.
But you don’t dwell on it when you run through the building and out the other side into an alleyway. Someone screams at the sight of you before gunshots ring through the street.
You duck, taking a sharp right into another warehouse, this one empty. The outside sounds: bombs ticking and exploding, cannonballs, yells and cries, and swords on swords are muffled inside here. You tiptoe through, checking behind doors and peering around corners before advancing.
There’s no missing the giant pirate skull in the island's centre, your target when you emerge. The map in your hand becomes useless when you notice the behemoth landmark. Who needs a map when you can see the thing everywhere in the city?
Stepping out of the warehouse, the area before you is full of Heart Pirates on resident pirates, fighting mercilessly with swords, fists, and guns. Swallowing your nervous pants, you aim a thread around a pirate sneaking up behind Clione, who’s already engaged in a fight. The man gags as you pull him backward, your face becoming a scowl when you look at him.
“Going for a man’s back is cowardly,” You say, ignoring how the man spits at you.
“You stupid bitch, get off me.”
Clenching your jaw, you throw him against the wall and string him up. His knife clatters to the cobblestones, and you leave him there—Law’s crew is important to him, like hell you’re going to let someone hurt them.
You turn, dodging a fist flying at your face. Making a sound of surprise, you sweep your leg out, catching the man off guard. He goes down, groaning in pain.
“Marines!”
You feel your heart drop into your stomach. Whipping around, you don’t see the familiar white and blue uniform, and you’re not going to. You run away from the port, many resident pirates scattering into the side streets and yelling the same warning.
Why are the Marines here? And how’d they get here so quickly?
You hear your name being called, the sound echoing. Bepo stands there, his arms full of beige woven bags—the stolen hearts. Your eyes widen at the number he carries already.
“Go right! There’s a road that leads straight there.”
Smiling, you thank Bepo and follow his directions. Your eyebrows tug together when you recall the hearts. There had to be at least thirty, and who knows how many trips Bepo has already made to the passenger vessel.
Shaking your head, you direct your brain to your target—the Poneglyph. You can’t read them; only one person can, and you miss her like crazy. She’d be able to understand it and relay the knowledge to you because there’s no way she’d tell Law about it at this point in time.
You wish Robin could hear you now, wherever she is.
Your path to the middle is easy after transporting twenty-eight more pirate souls into Seam. You manage to dodge all but one nasty punch to the cheek but get shot in the shoulder after purposefully instigating a pirate (not your best idea, but he was insulting the very existence of Luffy, something you’d never stand for).
You know Law will give you an earful when he sees you next.
The lead bullet is lodged in your muscle, and the bleeding is staunched thanks to the ripped hem of your t-shirt. You could have made a bandage using Sew, but your Devil Fruit powers dwindle with every passing second—if a pirate were to attack you now, you couldn’t fight them off.
The dizziness and ringing in your ears are almost unbearable, though you’re unsure if the ringing is from the punch or the way you hit your head when you fell from the impact of the bullet—you’re positive Law won’t care where it came from, just the fact that both of those things happened to you.
You blink away the stars in your vision and cough. The wound is itchy, and you resist the urge to dig your fingers into the hole and rip the bullet out yourself. The injury, paired with the pirate souls in Seam, is taking a toll on you.
“Fuck,” You pant, pausing to lean against a palm tree. Peering down at your shoulder, you almost faint at the amount of blood that has soaked through your makeshift bandage. When you inhale, your head gets lighter, so you choose to keep your breaths short.
You can feel your head drooping, but push off the tree to continue. Gone are the cobblestones, and in their place is dirt. Pressing your palm on your wound, you wince and think against doing it again. You remember Law telling you to put pressure on injuries like this, but you don’t think you can—you’re going to pass out from the pain.
Blood drips onto the sandy dirt beneath your feet, and the scorching sun strengthens the metallic scent. Your skin burns under the same heat, and you fear you won’t make it to the Poneglyph at this rate.
Up ahead, you hear the clang of swords. You whine, knowing that you won’t be able to fight someone with a weapon in this condition. So, you hurry down a barren alleyway, the cool air of the shadows allowing you some relief. You stumble but catch yourself on the wall.
Sure, you’ve had bullet wounds in the past, namely in Alabasta, but it felt nothing like this. With a few deep breaths, you feel no different. If only Chopper were here, with his panicked assessments and swift procedures, you would be scolded but fixed up quickly. Usopp’s chaotic, anxiety-ridden laughter echoes in your ears, and you shake your head to rid your mind of memories.
Another person’s presence, one not far away, weighs heavily on you.
“Law…” There’s no use calling for him. He’s on the other side of the island. You know this, yet do it again. You wish you had the baby transponder snail he gave you on that island, the one with the fur hat like Law’s. An involuntary giggle escapes your lips.
You can die without telling him— The souls in Seam wage war inside your mind, and all the yelling and screaming causes a sharp pain to throb behind your eye. “Shut up.”
Going into your mindscape now would be foolish. You’d waste your available energy and pass out right here without fulfilling Law’s request—check the giant skull for the Poneglyph. It would kill you to disappoint him.
You stagger out of the street; the sound of metal clanging and scraping is gone. Panting, you walk up the main road, the denser trees making it difficult to locate the entrance of the skull.
With bloody hands, you push back stray hairs that stick to your forehead with sweat. The world around you gets fuzzy, but Law’s averted eyes and fake smile force you to go on. You knew the plan going into this, and if you were to disappoint him—you’ve already thought about this.
You rub your eyes with your knuckles, squeezing your cheeks after to feel something in your face. When did your face start getting numb?
Faces pop into your head: Luffy, Zoro, Usopp, Sanji, Nami, Chopper, Robin, Franky, Brook… and you cry at the thought that you could leave them wondering what happened to you. Your stomach churns at the mere inkling that, at a time like this, a time when death rears his ugly head inside you, you have failed your family. You failed to stay alive.
“I’m sorry,” You slur, your face sticky with tears and blood. “I love you.”
An explosion rattles the ground, and your mind is back on the situation. Your tongue moves around your mouth hopelessly, trying to form the one name you need, the one that will help you without a second thought, the one you—
Slurring Law’s name, you no longer feel your feet beneath you, but instead the ground on your cheek. You didn’t feel the impact. Dirt clumps with sticky blood, and you feel your body relax. It’s nice to finally lie down.
You’ll wait here for Law. He’ll come and find you. He has to.
Your eyes roll to the back of your head, but you wear a smile. Law, Law, Law.
— Scene 10 —
You wake, though you don’t open your eyes.
Law knows you’re awake, and you know he knows this, yet neither of you says a word.
There’s no pain in your shoulder when you shift, finding yourself on your back, and you could cry at the mere thought that he found you.
It isn’t until a tear drips from the corner of your eye into your ear that Law speaks up.
“What the fuck were you thinking?” His voice is soft, but you sense the malice in this timbre.
One drips into your other ear. It’s a steady stream of salty water that soon turns into sobs, ones that rack your shoulders and burn your chest. A sensation you haven’t felt since you found Luffy in the forest on Amazon Lily.
“I’m sorry,” You whisper, your voice breaking. Law makes no sound. “I’m sorry.”
“You have no sense of self-preservation.”
He’s mad.
“Do you have any idea what would’ve happened if I hadn’t found you? If I hadn’t returned to the ship and realised you were taking much longer than planned? Fuck, you were minutes away from death.”
You sniffle, hiccuping. “I’m sorry.”
Law sighs hashly. “I know you are. Stop saying it.”
Opening your eyes, you’re met with the ceiling. The same ceiling you woke up to on your first time here, and the one that keeps seeing you fall apart.
“Law…” You peer over at him, your tears increasing when you see him sitting so close to the bed. You’re so happy to see him. “I was so scared.”
You can hear him swallow from where you lay, his jaw set and gaze averted. You smile when you see his expression—you called it.
“I knew you’d look like this.” The laugh you let out is rough, your throat raw. “You were the last thing I thought of.”
Law shakes his head and stands, giving you his back. “Don’t say shit like that.”
“I kept thinking about how disappointed you’d be that I didn’t get to the skull, that I didn’t find the Poneglyph—”
“I don’t care about the Poneglyph!” He spins around so quickly you barely see it. “I care about you!”
Your bottom lip quivers and more tears roll down your cheeks. You wait for him to continue, too shocked to speak.
“Do you know how close I was to losing it when I had to take that bullet out of you?” He yells. “When I found out it was poisoned? When I had to extract the poison from your body?”
“I didn’t know it was poisoned.”
“Of course you didn't,” He laughs bitterly. “You were too busy dying to know.”
You bite the inside of your cheek. “I’m sorry.”
“You’ve been in that bed, unconscious for eight days,” Law says your name with such pain that when your eyes focus on his face again, you see his glassy eyes. “You had ninety-four souls in Seam. How did you do that?”
Ninety-four…
“What?” You ask before realising what he’s saying, not even comprehending the fact you were unconscious for eight days. “How can you see inside Seam?”
“That’s not important—”
“It is! Tell me.”
Law sighs. “I can move incorporeal things, like souls; it’s how I switch people between bodies,” He explains. You store that little morsel of information for later, but now, you’re more fascinated with the fact that he can see your mindscape. “You had a lot of souls inside you. I can’t see into Seam, just the presence of these souls. But are you crazy? Ninety-four? That wouldn’t have helped with your injury. I’m surprised you didn’t pass out before you got shot.”
Law’s rambling and you fear he may start to spiral if he hasn’t already.
You let out a weak sound. “Law…”
“Fuck,” He curses. “I’ve never prayed to a god until I saw you on the ground, bleeding out. You terrified me.”
You’re going to be sick. You forget about Seam and try to push yourself up but quickly collapse when you lean on the wrong arm because what does he mean by that?
He’s at war with himself as runs his hands through his hair. “Why would you not come back to the ship when you got shot?”
“Because I had to get to the Poneglyph for you.”
Law scoffs, though the sound is not nearly as daunting as it normally is; instead, it’s sad. “Don’t you dare put your life in danger for me.”
It’s your turn to scoff, and you finally get the strength to sit up. “Don’t tell me what to do.”
“When it’s for my sake, then yes, I can. I’m not worth your pain or your death.”
You swing your legs out of the bed, standing on shaky knees.
Law’s eyes widen slightly. “Lay back down; you’re going to fall.”
“No,” You say, pointing your finger into his chest. “Don’t tell me what to do. Listen to me.”
Law purses his lips, his eyes flickering down to where you jab him with your index finger.
“You’re my crew, okay?” You know it sounds pathetic, but Law makes no move to ridicule you. “And I’d do anything for the people I love, even if that requires me to put my life in danger. So don’t stand there and tell me you’re not worth it when you mean more to me than you can imagine.”
“That’s foolish,” Law whispers. Your thumping heart stops, and when you look up at him, a single tear runs down his cheek. You reach up to wipe it away, your thumb soft on his skin. You keep your hand on his cheek.
“I’d do it a hundred times if it would help you reach your goal.”
Law swallows thickly. “I don’t know what I would’ve done if I hadn’t found you one time, let alone a hundred times.”
“You would’ve gone on with your crew and defeated all four Emperors and Doflamingo. I’m just someone you picked up on a whim.”
You know it’s a lie.
Law chokes on a laugh, though there’s no humour.
“You know that’s not true,” He spits. “I can’t do this without you knowing I know what it feels like with you. I hope you know that.”
“Law…”
“I care for you,” Law mumbles, his tone harsh while he presses your palm to his cheek. “I can’t lose you, too, which is why you can’t keep putting yourself in these positions.”
There’s far more to this than you know, and it breaks your heart to find out he’s been through this before.
“You’ve made this hell worth it. Everything I’ve done until now has brought me to you, and I’ll be damned if I let you hurt yourself to keep me happy, okay?”
You curse yourself when you start crying again. You can’t pinpoint when the ringing in your ears started, but it makes the world tilt. Laughter spills out of you unwillingly.
Law scowls, his vulnerable expression turning cold. He’s about to push you away. “I’m not talking to you if you’re going to mock me. I know I’m a heartless bastard, but I’m not joking.”
You pull him back to you with your good arm. “Why would I mock you? Come here, you idiot.”
He stares at you a little longer, his hand resting on your cheek. Law’s gorgeous; you’ve known this since you first laid eyes on him. But seeing him so vulnerable flips a switch inside you. It’s gentle, the kiss you press to his cheek, and it’s pink, the blush high on his cheekbones.
“I’m not going anywhere,” You say. “I’ll remain with you until you want me gone.”
“I’ll never want you gone,” He whispers, and your heart breaks. You smile, tears rolling into your mouth.
“Kiss me,” You say, reaching for him. Law meets you halfway, his other hand on your cheek as he brings his lips to yours.
The first peck is cautious, and Law runs his tongue along his bottom lip while you wrap your hands around his neck, pulling his chest flush against yours. Your shoulder is numb, and it’s probably for the best that Law forgets about your injury when, with red cheeks and a hell of a lot more confidence, he kisses you again.
“You know what this means?” Law whispers against your mouth, your salty tears mixing together.
You exhale through your nose, your fingers playing with the hair on the nape of his neck before they slide higher, your hands gripping larger chunks. “What?”
He leans in for another kiss, this one lasting longer than the previous, and when you pull away, he chases after you. Law looks at you, his eyes smiling and half-lidded with desire.
He brings you closer to him, his fingers brushing stray hairs away from your face. You giggle, pressing your lips to his cheeks and chin as he admires you.
“It means,” Another peck. “That you’re my crew, too.”
“Shut up.” You exhale a laugh and shake your head.
Your lips glide over his, and both of your lips slightly chapped. You smile with giddiness, your teeth lightly knocking Law’s.
“Quit smiling so much,” He mumbles, kissing the corner of your mouth.
You don’t apologise. “I’m so happy.”
Law drops his head to lean his forehead against yours. “Yeah, me too.”
“I’m sorry about what I did,” You say, pushing the hair on his forehead back. He shakes his head. “I’m sorry for making you worry.”
“I’ll always worry about you,” Law presses his mouth to your forehead before moving his hands down to the sides of your neck. “No use telling me not to.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Stop saying sorry.”
You catch yourself before you do it again.
Law wraps his arms around you, pulling you into his chest. You close your eyes, tightening your hold. His heart pounds underneath your ear, and he trembles softly.
“What’s wrong?”
“You’re going to be the death of me.”

Imagine refusing to wear a boiler suit while travelling with Law…
Part 1 | Part 2
“Absolutely not.” You said while scowling at the jumpsuits that were expected to be worn by the Heart Pirates. Bepo had offered an orange one but you made a face and pushed it away assuring the bear that while he looked great in it, you wouldn’t.
“I’m a Straw Hat. I’d rather drown in the sea before wearing a uniform.”
Law had been leaning against the rails while watching the scenario play out. The Polar Tang was still docked as the crew restocked supplies. You had been helping load some crates when the matter of dress code came into the mix and you absolutely refused to entertain the thought.
“It’s mandatory.” Law stated. It was a simple request that he expected for his crew - wear appropriate gear while aboard the submarine. “While you’re staying with us, you’ll follow the rules just like any other member.”
Crossing your arms, you threw him a scathing glare as if silently challenging the man. You took a step forward and pressed a finger into the tattooed skin of his chest. You were so furious that you missed the way he jumped at the touch.
“I’ll follow every command while I’m confined to this vessel. But if you want me wearing something that hideous, you’re going to have to undress me yourself.”
Bepo squeaked in surprise at the directness. Shachi and Penguin lowered their heads to conceal their smiles while most of the crew were bustling on the dock.
The expression that fell over Law’s face was priceless, amusing anyone who was in vicinity at the time. His mind betrayed every controlled thought as a great many images flashed before his eyes - of him peeling back each layer of clothing until you stood nak- stop yourself! Law willed almost having to bite his own tongue to bring himself back.
Out of the Straw Hats, you and Robin troubled him the least. But between you and Robin, you made him stumble the most and he never knew why.
When the man recollected himself, you were still standing before him, arms crossed. Still daring him to make you wear the uniform.
Law couldn’t find a way to respond that wouldn’t prompt another retort from you so he stepped back, turned on his heel and exited the conversation entirely.
“Do what you want.” He said and then disappeared into the ship.
Bepo lowered his paws, eyes wide. “He didn’t shout or punish you.” He realised and looked to Shachi and Penguin who were also quite bewildered.
You huffed. “Good. His grip around here is like a damn vice.”
Ikkaku walked by with a barrel and smiled at you. “He’s had to be otherwise we’d be sunk by now.”
Unfolding your arms, you forced all the tension away. Well, as best you could. You looked out onto the open seas and missed your home aboard the Thousand Sunny.
“He seems like he overreacts.” You muttered. Almost instantly the crew around you belted out in laughter clearly familiar with their captains dramatic ways.

Hi!! I saw you were taking requests, could I request a Trafalgar Law x Female Strawhat Reader about little moments where Law slowly falls for the reader starting where they first meet on Sabaody Archipelago to the end of Wano if possible? Oh and can I also request the Reader to not have a devil fruit? 😁
Tumblr media
A/N: Thanks for both of your request. I hope I did you guys justice <3 @leafcollectorr
Love at third sight (Law x female strawhat!reader / grumpy x sunshine)
Tumblr media
The first time Law saw you he knew exactly that you were trouble. That smile you wore while your captain punched this celestial dragon was captivating. Soon as this dude flew to the ground you went towards your captain. “I have the feeling we made a good impression back there.” You giggled.
Even when Eustass and strawhat fought with him against the marines he could still hear your laughter and joyful and especially loud words of encouragement.
“GO get em Captain. Punch them right there. YEAH like that.”
“Looking good tomato head. He flew out of the ring.”
“Wow grumpy cat, your devil fruit power is so cool. I wanna be next. This looks funny.”
Eustass and Law were fast turning our heads towards you. Their faces are bright red. Was it embarrassing for them? Hell yes.
“DON’T CALL ME GRUMPY CAT!” - “WHO IS A TOMATO HEAD WOMAN?!”
That damn smile of yours, made your eyes sparkle like a jewel.
Law was glad that you parted ways that day. Even so, your smile, your voice never left his mind. “How annoying. This damn woman is like their captain.”
The second time he saw you was back on Punk Hazard. After escaping, Law was now on the thousand sunny. And he regretted it very soon. Luffy thought that an alliance was something to eat or a friendship pact. He always thought that Luffy was annoying with this friendly and joyful temper but you? You were louder and happier than your captain.
Law soon retreats, looking around the sunny.
As soon as he saw the medicine room he entered. “That furball is really a doctor huh?” He inspected everything closely. Noticing a lot of bottles with different herbs, powders and flowers inside.
Law took one out of the shelves, reading the label with a frown expression.
“Never heard of it…” he murmured to himself.
“This is a special one. I created it by mixing those two herbs together. It’s an ointment for bruised and even burns”
A soft voice was heard and Law turned around in shock. You stood there, in your hands were the two herbs you talked about. “You did this?” Law asked.
You nodded. “Yep I’m a pharmacist you know? Chopper is the yin to my yang. We are a good team.”
Law blinked a few times, slightly confused.
“I’m surprised.”
“Thought so. People always assume that I am an idiot or just naive. And you know why?” You asked, walking towards your desk, grabbing a notebook.
Law observed every movement of yours closely.
A soft and yet sad smile was on your face as you turned towards him, looking him directly in his eyes. You offered him the notebook. “Because I always wear a smile and show nothing but joy and happiness. You thought so as well, right?”
Law couldn’t help but blush as your words. Taking the notebook from your hands and trying to avoid your gaze. “I didn’t -”
“I hate when people are lying.  It’s ok because it might be for the best. People should underestimate me. That is the best way to help Luffy and the rest of the strawhats. Just be honest with me please.”
Law couldn’t help but staring back at you. “You are quite the clever girl.”
This time the smile was reaching your eyes as they began to sparkle once more, like back there at Sabaody.
“Really? Wow, that's a huge compliment coming from you. If you wanna read some of my research, go for it.”
“Will do it. Thank you.” A smile was on your face…again.
He sighed. Law was about to leave the room but turned around at the door frame. “I should be honest right? Even though your smile annoys me at first, it is still pretty.”
You couldn’t help but blush, trying to sutter a sentence but the words didn’t wanna come out.
Law couldn’t help but smirk. “Good night y/n-ya”
The following days he read your notebook, impressed about your knowledge. He didn’t think that you would be smart and strategic. You only made dumb jokes along your crew. And everytime he saw you enjoying your everyday life with the people around you or being clumsy, he felt a little at home. It was like his crew and corazon was there with him.
The third time he noticed you, really noticed you was back at Zou. After rejoining you and the rest of the strawhats after departing ways in dressrosa he was glad that his crew was safe and sound. Thanks to you, Chopper and the rest of the strawhats.
“Captain!! This girl is such a lifesaver. It stung a little but now I have no ouchies any more.”
Bepo said while cuddling Law.
“Captain Y/N-chan should join us. She is a perfect match for our team.” Shachi said.
Penguin nodded. “She is a perfect match for me as well…”Shachi  punched his friend in the ribs. “I mean for our team. Hehe. But seriously captain. She is the perfect fit for us.”
Law could see that you made a good impression. You were such a sweetheart towards his crew, smiling and laughing with them. Dancing and singing with Shachi and Penguin at the party later that night. They were right. You would be a perfect match for the crew, but the truth was, you were part of the strawhat crew.
The night went on and soon enough they fell asleep one by one. Law was sitting near the campfire, enjoying this peaceful and calm night sky.
He closed his eyes. Everytime your smile was on his mind, since the day he first saw you on Sabaody. But after spending time with you on Punk Hazard and on the ship, your eyes and your sweet nature was all he could think of.
Law noticed right away that someone was right beside him.
As he opened his eyes, he saw you. Standing there with a light blush in front of him.
“Sorry to disturb you, Traffy but…”
You looked shyly towards the ground.
“You don’t disturb me… and what is a Traffy?”
You looked up at him and a big smile was on you.
“That’s my nickname for you. Is that ok?”
You asked nervously while taking a seat next to him.
He couldn’t help but notice how cute you were looking right now.
“Call me ‘Traffy’ if you want but not when the others are around.”
“Why not?”
“It’s embarrassing.”
“Calling you ‘honey’ in front of them is more embarrassing.”
His face turned crimson red. “W-Where is this coming from?”
“So can I call you Traffy now in front of everyone?”
“Only if I can call you ‘sunshine’ in front of everyone.” He smirked. He knew you would be so shy and easy to tease. You would surely deny it.
“Do you mean it?” Your voice was a mere whisper, a deep red was seen on your face even in the dark. Law couldn’t help but turn his head away from you. “I said it so you could stop with this nickname nonsense but…you remind me of a ray of sunshine. In a good way.”
Law could feel your head leaning onto his side.
“I’m glad that you don’t hate my sunny personality anymore. And I’m glad that your crew doesn’t hate me as well.
He laughed. “Please you are like them. There is no way anyone would hate you, for being yourself.”
“You have a beautiful laugh, Trafalgar.”
Law froze in place.
He turned his head towards you again, looking at you. You were already looking at him and soon enough your eyes met.
“I should probably go.”
You tilted your head in confusion. “Are you tired?”
He swallowed hard. “Not yet but it might be for the best.”
Your eyes scanned his gaze and his lips.
“Are you sure?”
He nodded. “Would it be such a catastrophe if I told you that I fell for you?”
Law couldn’t help but caress your cheek. “Would it be selfish of me? Being a part of your crew? After we finish our mission?”
Your foreheads touched and you could feel the warmth of one another.
“It might be a mistake to love me.”
“You had such a hard life. Your crew loves you and wants to help you. I wanna love and help you as well.”
Your soft lips kissed his foreheads in a loving manner.
His hand holding yours, caressing the back of it with his thumb.
“Let me be your sunshine please.”
His lips found yours. The kiss was gentle and loving. “You sure a grumpy cat like me deserved such a ray of sunshine?”
“100% sure”

part 2
i.
as Trafalgar Law watches the infamous Straw Hat captain sucker punch a Celestial Dragon, the very last thing he expects to hear is you shouting the boy’s name.
“Luffy?!” you nearly scream, jumping out of your seat beside your captain. all of the eyes that were initially glued to the ruckus now turn to you, including that of Monkey D. Luffy; and it isn’t lost on Law how the furious scowl on the younger man’s face almost instantly morphs into a giant smile.
“(Y/N)!” Luffy yells in return as he waves his arms around wildly. “i can’t believe you’re here! you made it, too!!”
Law is vaguely aware of Shachi and Penguin whispering animatedly to each other behind him but he can’t really be bothered to listen to them right now, not when you so recklessly leap into action once the fighting begins.
he and Bepo watch silently as you strike guard after guard with your signature weapon–a long metal pipe–while you move in tandem with Straw Hat Luffy. it’s almost seamless, the way he and you work around each other’s moves, as if the other’s fighting pattern is almost engraved into your very muscles.
“woah, what the hell?” Shachi comments aloud. “i never knew (Y/N) was friends with Straw Hat. did you, captain?” Law only manages a loose shake of his head, a million thoughts running through his mind as he continues to observe how different you seem as you fight beside Luffy.
in all the years Law has known you, you’ve always struck him as a level-headed fighter and an overall extremely calm and collected person–it’s one of the many reasons he fell for you to begin with. and yet here you are, having leapt into action seemingly without a second thought, all for a boy Law didn’t even know you were associated with until right now.
“you guys don’t think she hid this from us on purpose, right?” Penguin suggests in a tone tinged with slight embarrassment, as though uncomfortable at the idea of even thinking you’d been wilfully hiding something from everyone.
“no… she must’ve had a reason…” Bepo replies, idly hugging Law’s sword as his eyes continue to trace your movements at the front of the auction house. he winces when you land a particularly harsh blow against one of the Celestial Dragon’s guards.
as the conversation awkwardly dies out, Law can’t help but feel the eyes of his crewmates looking his way almost expectedly. he doesn’t blame them, after all, it’s no secret you’ve been dating for quite a while now. if anyone was to be the most shocked at this discovery, it’d have to be him.
“and here i was thinking you were never gonna wake up,” an unfamiliar voice spoke as Law’s eyes fluttered open. head spinning, he groaned and tried to rub his face with his hands, only to wince when a sharp pain bloomed over his palms. “your hands got burned a bit. i don’t think they’ll scar but you shouldn’t try to move them so much for now.”
“who are you?” he croaked as he blinked away the blurriness in his vision and was greeted by the sight of an unfamiliar room. “where am i?”
“i’m (Y/N) and i don’t know where we are,” you replied simply. “all i know is that you almost died and i saved your life.”
“why?”
“do i need a reason?”
the sudden sound of a gunshot tears across the auditorium and is followed by a cacophony of gasps as all eyes turn to the stage where just mere seconds ago, one of the Celestial Dragons stood with a gun pointed at a mermaid.
Law feels his heart sink when he realises what you’ve done.
standing on wobbly knees, you let your pipe fall to the ground with a loud clang. before you lies the unconscious body of a lady Celestial Dragon with her gun now sitting a few metres away from her unmoving hand.
you’d moved without thinking after seeing the way Luffy and his crewmates shouted when the mermaid’s life was put in danger. the dots connected in your head and it gave you all the reason you needed to risk it all for his friend.
he is, after all, your beloved baby brother.
“(Y/N)!” two distinct voices cry your name at the same time as blood begins to pour out of your stomach, the warm red liquid seeping through your fingers as you clutch your wound in vain. out of the corner of your eye, you can see Luffy sprinting towards you but out of instinct, you scan the scattering crowd in search of your captain.
the moment your eyes meet, you’re shambled into his arms.
“what’s the matter with you?!” Law hisses under his breath before he lays you down carefully on the ground. “you’re never this reckless. why’d you–”
“hey! you!” Luffy barks, pointing a finger in your partner’s direction. in true Luffy-fashion, he completely ignores the countless guards and marines as they continue to charge towards him, only to get beaten down by his crewmates before they can even get close. “give me my big sister back!”
“SISTER?!” exclaims a chorus of voices, a combination of his crew and your own.
you can only manage a sheepish smile when Law glances down at you with a flabbergasted look on his face.
ii.
“you should join my crew.” he’d spoken so casually, as though such a proposition wasn’t potentially life-changing for a lone wolf like yourself.
after you managed to find his crew mates and lead them back to your temporary hideout, you’d been invited onto their submarine with the offer to drop you off anywhere you’d like. unable to think of any place in particular, you decided to stick around for a bit and before you knew it almost six months had passed by.
“i mean, you’ve stuck around this long,” Law continued after realising you weren’t going to respond any time soon, “you must trust us to some capacity, right?”
he’d hit the bullseye without even trying.
you liked the Heart Pirates, you really did, but your journey from the very day you departed from your home island was wrought with hurt and betrayal. after countless encounters with scummy captains and their shitty crews, you swore you’d go solo until you could find one of your brothers again. it didn’t matter which: Ace, Sabo or Luffy.
they were the only ones you could trust, after all.
the commotion dies down after a strong wave of Haki washes over the room, followed by the thuds of countless unconscious bodies unceremoniously hitting the ground. everyone turns their attention to the culprit–everyone except you and the man currently patching you up.
kneeling over you, Law silently sanitises and bandages your gunshot wound after ensuring there wasn’t any fragments left in your flesh. he’d been deadly quiet after Luffy announced to the world his ties to you as your brother and you aren’t entirely sure if this is the regular Law kind of quiet or the bad kind of quiet. something in you heart says it’s the latter and yet your boyfriend tends to your wounds so tenderly, as if he isn’t upset in the slightest.
once he’s done, he even helps you to your feet slowly and carefully, though still not saying a single word.
after a while of watching the Straw Hats speak to an old man who showed up out of nowhere, Luffy comes running your way. it isn’t lost on you how Law’s shoulders tense up in response as he inches closer towards you until the back of his hands brushes against yours.
“(Y/N)!” he laughs before throwing himself against you and pulling you into a tight hug. although it really hurts your wound, you can’t help but smile as he nuzzles his cheek affectionately against yours. “i’ve missed you so much! i can’t believe you’re here of all places! did you see my wanted poster? i have a super awesome crew now, you should meet them–”
Law observes as the Straw Hat captain yaps endlessly whilst you gaze down at him with a softness in your eyes your boyfriend foolishly thought had always been reserved solely for him.
“oh! and i met Ace in Alabasta and he told me to give this to you if i ever see you,” Luffy says as he rummages through his pockets before pulling out a ring strung on a chain. “Ace also told me to tell you that he misses you lots and hopes to see you again soon!”
Ace? surely it’s not Fire Fist Ace? what connection do you have with him, of all people? what else have you been keeping from me?
though, now that he thinks about it, Law never would’ve expected you to be siblings with Straw Hat Luffy, who’s to say you aren’t associated with other infamous pirates? since the day you agreed to be his girlfriend, he’d been under the impression he knows who you are, as you do with him, but now he’s not so sure anymore.

Omg what the heck 2k!?! I’m so happy for you like I remember when you started this blog some time ago, and you blew up fast 😭 also that era when you got shadow banned. I wanted to request the monster trio with option 1. So how about a meeting their S/O after the 2 year gap but they ended on argument so now what would they say after not seeing them for two years.
A/N:😭😭i forgot about the shadowbanned era omg. I almost stopped writing completely then. That was a CRAZY time. Thank you for reminding me of that LOL
Characters: gn reader x Sanji, Zoro, Luffy Total word count: 750
A Postponed Apology
Sanji
“My love! You’re safe!” Sanji tackled you, both of you falling to the ground entangled in one another.
He pushed back the hair from your face and covered you with kisses in between his words. “You’re here! I missed you so much!”
“Sanji,” you laughed, trying to push him off. “You’re smothering me!”
“I’ll smother you forever!” He pressed his head against your chest, humming pleasantly as he listened to your heartbeat. “I’ll never leave your side ever again!”
Your fingers ran through his hair as tears filled your eyes. You hadn’t expected this reunion to go so smoothly. You had expected Sanji to never speak to you again, maybe even come back with a new crew member recruit. You wouldn’t have blamed him, not after all the horrible things you said to him.
“You’re not mad?” you whispered softly, afraid your voice would betray you.
“Why would I be mad?” he asked, still listening to your heart beat in your chest. “I’m just grateful you’re okay.”
“But our fight…” Tears spilled out of the corner of your eyes and down your cheeks.
“Our fight?” he asked, clearly confused. He pulled his head away from your chest to look you in the eyes, and you could see his soul shatter at the fact he was making you cry.
“Do you mean the one from two years ago?” he asked. “Darling, don’t even worry about that. All that matters is that we are here together now, and I’m never letting you go again.”
Zoro
It took your eyes a second to adjust to the darkened room, but Zoro’s voice rang out.
“So, you’re the second one to arrive, huh?”
You hadn’t expected Zoro to be there. He was always getting so lost, you had assumed it would be anyone but him.
“Nobody else is here yet?” you asked, joining him at the bar.
“Just you and me.”
Silence filled the air, the heaviness of your last conversation still weighing on your shoulders.
“Zoro-”
“Don’t apologize,” he said. “It was two years ago. It’s not a big deal.”
“No.” You shook your head, finally turning to look at him. “I should’ve never said those things. If I had known-”
“But you didn’t know.” He sighed, picking his beer up and taking a long drink. “Are you still upset about it? Do you even remember what we were fighting about?”
“Well no, but-”
“Then it doesn’t matter. We’re together now. Let’s make up for lost time instead, okay?”
You smiled, relieved at his words. He had never been one to hold a grudge.
“Okay.”
Luffy
You kept your distance from Luffy until everyone went to sleep. It had been a long day full of emotions, and he was busy enough with his captain duties. The last thing you wanted to do was inconvenience him any further.
“Sanji!” Luffy called, entering the kitchen. “I’m-oh! Hey!”
Your heart quickened at his voice. You weren’t ready to face him yet. Even if you knew you had to.
“Hey Luffy,” you whispered. “Sanji went to bed, but he made this ice cream sundae. You want it?”
Luffy’s mouth grew into a big smile, his eyes growing wide. He grabbed a spoon and slid into the booth next to you. “You’re the best! You know that, right?”
You gave an awkward laugh. “I guess we need to talk, huh?”
Luffy looked at you, a blank and confused look on his face. “Talk about what?”
It was hard to look at him, but you forced yourself to. “Our last conversation?”
He was trying to remember, you could see his brain going into overdrive as he recalled your last moments together on Sabaody. Finally, he shrugged and shoveled a scoop of ice cream into his mouth.
“I don’t remember our last conversation,” he admitted.
You raised an eyebrow. “The fight? Because if you want to break up-”
“Why would I want to break up with you?” Luffy asked. “That’s the last thing I want.”
“Well, I said some pretty harsh things, Lu.”
He knitted his eyebrows in concentration, trying to remember. For a minute you watched him, and you could’ve sworn steam was coming out of his ears. But he shook his head. “Sorry, I don't remember that at all.”
You laughed. You should be surprised or offended. But that was just Luffy. “So we’re good?” you asked.
“Of course,” he said, offering you a bite. “Why wouldn’t we be?”

Could you write a drabble of Luffy excited to see reader again in Zou?
BITTERSWEET LOVE CONFESSIONS. . .
★ summary: luffy’s so excited to see you again on zou. (gn!reader)
★ warnings: one piece antics, pre-wci spoilers kinda, sorta ooc! luffy, a lil angst, reader’s an overthinker (wc: ≈1100? is this considered a drabble?)
★ an: ty for allowing me to whip up something to feed my creative side!! i rushed through this though i’ll admit 🥲 but i hope it’s somewhat close to what you were expecting, anon! i’m still trying to get back into writing, so please excuse any grammar/spelling errors TT…also, happy nami day!! my favorite girl <33
Tumblr media
luffy’s so so excited.
he’s excited to continue his journey on the grand line, in the new world, his next stop zou to pick up the rest of his crew and hopefully enjoy a nice meal. he’s excited to tell the rest of them about his reunion with sabo, what he’s learned on dressrosa, and to catch up on what’s been happening while he was dealing with business.
but more importantly (though he might never say it out loud, because it’s obvious) he’s excited to see you.
it feels as if the two of you haven’t gotten alone time together since reuniting at sabaody. you promised him you’d tell him all about your training during the two years the crew was separated, but there’s just not enough down time to do so.
as soon as the poorly drawn dragon made its way up the elephant’s leg, luffy wasted no time in his search for you. he was eager to see your face again. to hear your voice. to feel your presence. robin giggled at her captain’s behavior, mentally agreeing with him: wanting to see you and nami again (and her chopper and the crew’s skeleton, too).
“YNNNNNNN!!! where are you?” usopp’s eyes shot out of his head as he looked up and saw his captain standing on a tall wall. “CHOPPER!! NAMI!! SANJI!! BROOK!! YN!! DRAGON BOY!!”
“LUUUUUFFY?! GET DOWN HERE!” usopp screamed. “you’re going to draw attention towards us — we don’t need it!!” law watched as the four of them — zoro, robin, franky and usopp (despite just scolding him) — sighed and continued walking forward. what an odd group of individuals. he must be a handful. the doctor decided to follow the rest of the straw hats, choosing to ignore their captain’s loud antics.
+x+
nami’s voice shook you awake from your slumber, your eyes blurry as you rubbed your forehead. you’re grateful to have been able to get some sleep, your mind still trying to process what’s been happening these days. too much thinking. miss him so much.
“let’s go outside,” nami suggests. “i think they’re finally here.”
upon hearing the words you’ve craved to hear since you’ve arrived on the walking elephant, you jump from your spot and rushed outside. you’re greeted with the crew mates you left on dressrosa, eyes taking in their forms searching for any injuries. after you’ve decided that they’re all in pretty good shape, your attention returns to the loud boy who stood before you.
“LUFFY!” you shout, legs moving towards him without hesitation, almost as if he was magnetizing. you throw your arms around his frame and jump into his embrace, the warmth of his skin meeting yours. his right hand immediately grabs hold of the back of your head, the other steadying your waist in place. he’s about to tell you how much he’s missed you, until you beat him with a hushed whisper in his ear.
“i’m so, so sorry, Lu. sanji…” you start. “we couldn’t stop him.” you’re standing a foot away from him now, head hanging in shame as luffy processes your words. his hands rest on your shoulders, your eyes ignoring his gaze.
the others who joined him on dressrosa collectively let out their confusion, wondering what could’ve happened in the short amount of time they’ve been on dressrosa. you feel luffy’s left hand move from your shoulder to under your chin,
“tell me, yn.”
+x+
you’re all sat in a circle as your captain listens to everyone explaining what’s happened since the twirly hat’s arrival on zou. luffy’s right beside you, digging into his food as your mind fills with memories as nami explains the whole situation regarding sanji. you feel luffy shift slightly, his left arm wrapping around your waist, the other still indulging the meal set in front of him. his attention remains on nami, but the grip on your waist tightens at every mention of you.
after eating, the two of you are able to find some alone time. it’s awkward at first, sitting side by side on a brick wall that guarded the cat viper’s castle. you feel small in his presence as both of you watch the sun set.
“i’ve missed you,” you break the silence. “it’s been a while since we’ve been together.”
luffy’s cheeks are painted with a light blush, a smile forming on his face. “i missed you too yn! been thinking of you ever since you left me on dressrosa — actually, haven’t been able to stop thinking about you since two years ago!”
you return the smile, gaze locking in on his as he brings your body closer to his. his warmth meets your chilled skin, a kiss pressed to the top of your head as you lean into his shoulder.
“have you been okay? doflamingo wasn’t too harsh on you, was he?” you pry. you’ve researched the warlords and came to the conclusion that donquixote doflamingo is — or was — the worst of the seven. when it clicked on punk hazard that doflamingo would be the next victim to fall to luffy, you weren’t sure how to feel. a ton of emotions hit you all at once, but then again, this is the new world. you have to expect the worst.
“oh, mingo? he was this big shot and i’m glad i was able to bring him down. he was doing some really terrible things on the island. but! i did get to see my brother, sabo! you remember me telling you about him, right? turns out he’s been working under my dad for some time now! it’s crazy how the world works,” he eagerly tells you. “he was really hoping to meet you, you know? but i told him you were dealing with business over here — so maybe next time. he also made me a vivre card! it’s in robin’s bag but i’ll be sure to give you a piece when we go back in. hmm, what else?”
you smile as you watch the boy place a hand under his chin and think of events to tell you. you watch as his face changes into many different emotions, and you can’t help but sigh lovingly at the sight.
“hmm? you okay yn?” you shake your head no at the question, inhaling deeply before replying,
“just happy you’re back. missed you so so much. thinking about how much i love you,” warmth filled your face as you realized your last sentence was the first time you’d ever said that to him, eyes darting back to the open sea in front of you.
“huuuuuuuuh?! finally! i love you too, yn. maybe even more! sanji told me i should wait for you to tell me first, but i realized i loved you a long time ago!” luffy’s words were accompanied by his arms wrapping around you once again. he’s always been physical, but this time, you can feel the love radiating off of him. he pulls away and suddenly, your lips are on his. you kiss back instantly, something you’ve craved for a long time; before, luffy’s kisses were always mere pecks. your reunification on sabaody proved that luffy had matured a lot the past two years, but this kiss seals the deal.
“i’ll never leave you, y’know? i kind of wanted you to stay with me on dressrosa,” luffy says as he pulls away and rests his forehead on yours. “but i came to conclusion that you’re strong! which is why i put you in charge. you all made it safely, which was what i told you to do, right? despite what came after…” make sure you and the others arrive on zou safely, yn! you’re now both facing each other, with legs crossed. you quickly think about how high up the two of you are, but the wave of worry vanishes when you remember the bright boy that sat in front of you.
“we’ll get sanji back. we’ll have all our friends together again, so don’t worry. we’re in this together, right?” the words sounded so sweet falling from his lips, and you felt like crying. “it’s a goal of mine to watch you achieve your dream, and so far it’s been a pleasure. don’t plan on missing out!”
seeing the sparkle in his eyes despite the sun setting, made you grab his face with both hands and bring his lips to yours. you poured all the love in your body into the kiss, hoping he’d experience the same feeling you felt when he had kissed you earlier.
“and i’ll be there for your coronation, King.” you smiled at him, turning your body back to the open sea, one you were once afraid of. luffy helped you overcome it; you loved voyaging and the thrill that the ocean offers. you can’t wait to see everyone reach their life dreams, knowing that it’ll happen with the help of the man who sat next to you.
minutes pass you both watched as a pretty shade of dark blue painted the periwinkle sky, in a comfortable silence accompanied by waves clashing against zunesha’s legs.
“….so does that mean we’re technically married now?!”
“luffy..”

where you belong [4/10]
Summary: As Luffy's big sister, you've viewed it to be your job to see him become King of the Pirates in place of your absent parents, even as you try to find where it is you belong in the world. You never really expected to draw the attention of Trafalgar Law in the process.
Pairing: Trafalgar Law x Fem!reader
Warnings: Discussion of feelings of abandonment, age gap relationship (four years), brief secret relationship, mentions and heavy refences to sex, mentions of alcohol, typical One Piece stuff. Other warnings to be added if needed.
Note: This chapter has heavy references to sex, but nothing explicit. I'm an old maid, I don't have that experience yet. :') Also its 9k words, I'm so sorry, but I hope it sustains you all until chapter 5 is done lol.

[Ch. 1] ● [Ch. 2] ● [Ch. 3]
“You know,” Law can’t help the slight smile that makes it’s way onto his face when you look at him mid-bite but he does think it’s cute, “I thought you had feelings for Penguin for a while.”
You laugh after you swallow the bite of food you have, shaking your head but still smiling. The two of you decide to stay on the ship for the night, you’ll go into town tomorrow for a lunch date, but for tonight, you’ll just share some leftovers in the kitchen and sit close together. Every now and then you both place a kiss on the other’s cheek, it makes you giggle when Law does it, his goatee scratching your face a little, but you like it.
You like him, he already means so much to you, and you can already tell he feels the same way with you.
“No, no, definitely not. I think of him more like a big brother, really.”
“I’m sure he’ll be heartbroken to hear that.”
“Oh yeah,” you roll your eyes a little but still smile, “One of the two people who knew about my feelings for you is going to be so heartbroken that I think of him as a brother.”
“He’ll be devastated, I’m sure.”
You both laugh a bit, knowing that Penguin would absolutely play along if you brought it up, his acting skills on display if needed. He will be happy for the two of you when he hears, but it's fun to think of different reactions from his crewmates, you’ve been thinking about Luffy’s reaction since you realized your feelings for Law. You know he’ll be ecstatic, though he’s probably going to ask you to stay with the Straw Hats, at least for now. You don’t mind it, you’re sure Law will be fine with it.
The current plan is to drop you in Sabaody in a few months anyway, you’ll be separated for a while. At least you have transponder snails, you’ll be able to keep in contact that way easily. Less likely for letters to be intercepted and read in advance by Nami once she finds out.
“How long do you want to wait to tell your crew?”
Law shrugs, he hasn’t thought that far ahead about all this yet. He knows it’s going to happen, they’re going to find out somehow, maybe even by accident knowing them.
“A while, I’m not sure. I…I haven’t done this before…”
“…I haven’t either. Luffy and Ace would chase off any boys I liked, or any that they thought liked me…so I’ve never had a boyfriend.”
“I see,” Nodding, Law leans over and kisses your cheek again, making you giggle while he smiles, “We’ll figure this all out together then.”
“Yeah…together.”
Even when the rest of the Heart Pirates come back later that night, you and Law spend your time together, making sure at least that those who haven’t noticed your feelings for each other don’t find things out right away. You’re not ready for that, but you’ve both agreed to let Ikkaku and Penguin know, just for sanity’s sake and not having to sneak around everyone.
The rest of your evening is spent in his office after you’ve finished dinner, talking and making plans for the next day together, plans for after you go back to the Straw Hats if this sticks. You hope it does, Law does too, neither of you wants this to fall apart even if it’s just starting. Law takes you back to your room again, as he always does now, it’s become your favorite part of your evenings. If any of his crewmates come around the corner the two of you separate just enough that it doesn’t look weird, still talking until the other person is out of sight and you move back beside each other.
You’re sure that if he keeps walking you and kisses you before he leaves these times are going to be your favorite from now on. Practically none of the other guys come down towards your and Ikkaku’s room, giving you and Law enough time to enjoy each other before he says he needs to go, he’s got things to do before your (real) date the next day.
“Lunch tomorrow right?”
“Right.”
You nod with a grin, before leaning up to kiss Law again, which he gladly accepts and returns.
“See you in the morning then, Law.”
“You too,” Law gives you a smile and kiss on the forehead before he turns to leave, “I promise I’ll come get you this time.”
You fight not to laugh but nod, still smiling as you go into your room, all giddy and happy. Ikkaku is asleep so you won’t bother her, but once you get into bed, you’re trying not to squeal even though you can’t wipe the smile off your face as you fall asleep. Law does the same, even though he has no one else around him at the time. Its another night he sleeps easily, only because of you he believes. He has hopes this will be good, that you won’t leave him, and he won’t leave you even when he drops you off in Sabaody. He wants this to last, you both do, and it feels like it will.
Neither of you plans to give up on this easily.
+!+
Your first date off the Polar Tang is a success to both you and Law, he feels relieved after it’s over though, but he’s not opposed to another one of course. The rest of his crew goes about their business on the ship, leaving you and Law to slip off without anyone else noticing, Ikkaku and Penguin promise to keep everyone busy so you won’t be found out and you can enjoy yourselves.
You start off at a small café for lunch, laughing when the waitress suggests a sandwich to Law who nearly recoils at the thought of bread but just orders a salad instead.
“Stop laughing, you dork.”
“Your aversion to bread is so funny though, I’ve never met anyone who doesn’t like it!”
“Yeah well,” Law looks away as he takes a drink, cheeks just the slightest bit pink out of embarrassment, “I’ve never liked the stuff, ever since I was a kid. I’m sure there’s something you don’t like.”
You stop to think, as your food is brought to you, the waitress had been able to convince you to get the sandwich they were offering, as you look at Law’s lunch once it’s set down.
“Radishes.”
“Hm?”
“I don’t like radishes,” Nodding, you shrug a little, “Never have, I don’t like how strong they can taste.”
“Guess I’ll take your radishes and you take my bread.”
You grin and agree, the rest of your lunch spent in comfortable conversation, nothing feels awkward or weird, not after the night before. Law hopes you don’t ever find him passed out in his office again, though knowing the anxiety he can have, it may happen again. He's grateful you’re so understanding and willing to help him navigate this new territory.
But it’s also new for you, so you’re glad to learn alongside him.
Once you’re done with lunch, neither of you are ready to go back to the Polar Tang, so you take off to look at different shops through the town. Of course you find a bookstore, both of you excited to go in, though Law less obvious about it, you drag him inside and start to look at everything available. While you end up looking at the different books on poisons, Law ends up picking out a medical book almost immediately, before being drawn to the novels and comics, where you end up finding him several minutes later, lost in thought.
You just watch him, he looks like he’s thinking through which volumes of Sora Warrior of the Sea he has, to see if he needs any that are on the shelf in front of him. It makes you smile, he's so feared by so many so people simply because he’s pirate captain, but this side of him makes Law so cute to you, he keeps it to himself most of the time, but when you see it, you can’t help it.
He really is a good guy.
Law picks a book up off the shelf to read the back as you come over, pressing yourself again his side to try and rea it yourself.
“Find one you need?”
“Maybe…I don’t think I’ve read this one before.”
You hum and look at the cover yourself, reading the synopsis before Law puts his arm around your shoulders and brings you closer to him. It doesn’t surprise you that much, but it makes you smile. Despite how he looks to some people, you know Law is much nicer than anyone could ever expect, especially when he starts to explain the plot of this volume while you just listen and in turn wrap your free arm around his waist as Law decides he'll get this book too, asking if you found what you need before he goes to purchase his items.
“Yeah, I think I found everything I was looking for.”
~~
The two of you walk back to the Polar Tang while chatting lightly, Law trying to explain the full plot of Sora to you, which makes you laugh as you ask questions and he looks almost annoyed like it’s something he just explained but you weren’t listening.
It's not your fault he looks so happy as he goes off about his favorite series, the bright look in his eyes and slight smirk he has, he’s just so handsome when he’s happy.
“…maybe you should just read it.”
“If you let me borrow your copy I will!”
Law nods, thinking that’s definitely a better idea than him having to try and explain it. He’ll have to get you the first volume later so you can start it, see something he’s liked ever since he was a child. Maybe you’ll enjoy it too and he can have someone to talk about it with again.
As you approach the Polar Tang, you take Law’s hand in yours, he pulls you a little closer to kiss your head in return. You aren’t ready to go back yet, to have to pretend nothing is going on, but you’re willing to deal with it for now, just for Law. He might be older than you, but you understand he isn’t in the mood to be teased by his crewmates about his first relationship, so you can accept this situation. At the very least, Ikkaku and Penguin know, you think Bepo has his suspicions after you ran to get him when Law had passed out, but none of his other crewmates seem to suspect a thing yet.
“I wish we had more time today…”
“We don’t have to go back in immediately,” Law shrugs while you look up at him confused, making him smile softly, “We could, you know, stay on deck for a while…if you want, I guess.”
That suggestion causes you to smile back, nodding and dragging Law back to the ship, settling both of you in a good spot so you can talk and watch the sunset, maybe stay long enough to see the stars. He knows being in a submarine is completely different from what you were use to with the Sunny, so Law doesn’t mind staying outside for a while longer with you, he’s more than happy to do so, especially when you lean against his shoulder and continue to hold his hand.
“I think today was a good second-first date.”
“Oh is that what we’re going to call it then?”
Nodding, you hum before kissing his cheek, leading Law to press another to your temple.
“We’ll definitely have another date sometime.”
“Good to hear.”
You’re excited to see where things go with Law now that you’ve had this real first date, and when you tell Ikkaku everything later that night, she starts betting you and Law will be married in no time at all, which makes your face heat up at the thought. She’s joking of course, even as she says you’ll have four kids, but even you start thinking about what that could be like one day, though you never tell anyone else about it. It’s far too early to be thinking about such a thing, but Ikkaku’s insistence that she’s correct makes you laugh in the end.
You end up sleeping better than night that you have in a while, and Law does the same, after relaying the date to Penguin who is happy for his captain and proud he took that step with you. All of the Heart Pirates want Law to he happy, and if that means he’s with you, Penguin knows the rest of them will approve when you two decide to tell everyone about your relationship.
This family Law found will be happy for him, just as you know Luffy and the other Straw Hats will be for you.
+!+
“Have you heard of the Will of D?”
“Hmm?”
You’re laying across Law’s lap in his bed one evening while reading a book, him doing the same, before he asks such a seemingly random question. He’d been running his fingers through your hair (carefully, nervously, you’re both still getting used to this) and you thought he’d been so focused on his book, but it seems he has something on his mind instead.
You wrack your brain a bit, knowing it sounds familiar but at first, you’re not sure why until it hits you. Nodding, you close your own book and sit up beside him.
“Robin mentioned it once…she asked if Luffy and I knew anything about it.”
“Do you?”
When you shake your head, Law sighs a bit but nods, pulling you against his side gently to have you lay your head on his shoulder.
“Sorry I’m no help there.”
“No, don’t be,” Law waves off your apology, kissing the top of your head as you hum, “I was just wondering.”
You both return to your books for a while, you trying to focus but keep thinking about what Law asked. You know that you have no information for him about the Will of D, you only know it's something Robin has brought up; you, Luffy, Garp and Dragon have the D in your names, you’ve seen others have it as well, but that’s the extent of your knowledge. You’ve never really been interested in learning the meaning, even with Robin questioning you and Luffy, Garp never had an answer either if you asked him, not a real one. He just said it was like a middle name, nothing for you to worry yourself about. You were too young to argue with him, or maybe it was just that you respected him too much to do so, but it never set right with you. You wanted to know, why you saw that letter on wanted posters too.
Sometimes you wonder if it would give you more information about who you are.
“…what do you know about it, Law?”
He’s not sure if you want to know the very little he does, but since it’s brought up to you before, and you both share that letter, though he hasn’t told you yet, it might not be a bad thing. Sharing what he knows might give you something to look at yourself, maybe even the next time you see Garp he could give you real answers. You aren’t a child anymore, you deserve to know anything that could help you find yourself and where you belong in this world.
“Enemies of the gods.”
“…what?”
“That’s what Cora-san said once,” Law shrugs while you start to think, “I don’t think he knew anymore than that, really…”
“…I don’t really like that thought, being an enemy of the gods.”
“Don’t dwell on it, I’m not sure what he meant by it.”
You end up nodding, turning your attention back to your book but not really reading it anymore. You don’t understand why having a D in your name is so important in this world, what it would mean for you, Luffy, your grandpa, really anyone with it, it’s so strange. If Dragon were around, maybe he would know something. Maybe he does but you can’t get any kind of answer from him since he’s never around. Garp probably still wouldn’t answer you, he’d tell you it’s nothing for you to worry about still, even though you’re all grown up and now want to know since Law brought it up.
The world you live in is a strange place after all.
“I have it too.”
“Huh?”
“A D in my name, I have it too.”
Honestly you’re not completely surprised, but just a little shocked to hear that. You know there are several people with the D in their name, you just didn’t expect Law to be one of them.
“So—”
“Trafalgar D. Water Law. That’s my full name.”
You don’t say anything about it, not for a while. Honestly Law starts to wonder if you’re upset he never told you, when you’d given him your full name the first time you really met. He'd kept his name secret for so long, it only felt natural to do so back then too, it wasn’t that he didn’t trust you.
Well, when you met it was, even after he learned you were Luffy’s sister, he hadn’t planned for you to join his crew for two years, or to develop feelings and a relationship with you. You were a stranger that simply was related to another pirate captain and had a D in their name, why should he have revealed it back then? The two of you weren’t close at all, so he’s hoping you understand that since neither of you really knows much, not telling you his full name at the time was a safety measure. It wasn’t anything personal.
“I wonder if we’ll ever find out why we have this letter, and why it seems like no one knows anything.”
To say he’s relieved you’re not upset with him is an understatement, leading Law to sigh a bit before nodding in agreement. He wants to know too now, more than he has before, to understand why this Will of D is so important to the World Government especially, that there’s so little information on it.
He wants to find out for you too now.
~~
“Have I told you why I wanted to write a book?”
Shaking his head, Law glances up from his notebook to you, sitting across from him with your own book that you’ve kept every tiny note and detail about your crew’s adventures in hand, giving him a smile.
“Wanna know?”
“If you want me to.”
You roll your eyes as bit, finishing a line in your book before setting your pen down to rest your chin in your hand.
“My other brother, Sabo, wanted to write a book about our pirating adventures for kids. I wasn’t really into writing back then, I thought it was boring but I did like reading,” sighing you lean back against your chair as Law stops his own note taking to watch you, “After he…after he died, I decided I’d take up his dream. It’s not going to be only for kids though, I want everyone to read how Luffy becomes King of the Pirates.”
“Hmm, I see.”
“…do you think it’s silly? To take up Sabo’s dream like that?”
Law wonders if people have laughed at you for taking your brother’s dream on yourself. You’ve told him how you’d lost Sabo, thanks to a Celestial Dragon, and how it affected you, Luffy, and Ace as you continued to make your plans to leave and become Pirates. You’ve always kept him in your mind, especially when you’ve gone to make your notes and write whatever needed to be done next, Law's even read your writing more recently to help you proof it.
You have a talent for writing and detail, even he’s gotten tucked into your unpublished work and wants to know what’s next. It's like he’s anxiously waiting for the next Sora novel, except his girlfriend is the author and he wants to see what’s next for a rival instead. It’s how he learned more about the way you all helped free Alabasta, your adventure in Skypiea, Luffy’s declaration of war against the World Government at Enies Lobby, the zombies you fought on Thriller Bark, and when you arrived in Sabaody. He wants to see how that moment you two first locked eyes was for you, but he doesn’t expect that in this book. It’s not important to Luffy’s story, so you’ll probably leave it out, he thinks.
He does hope you’ll send him copies once you’ve gone back to the Straw Hats, he wants to keep reading the story and stay up to date with you.
“It’s not silly at all,” Law smiles when you look at him with relief in your eyes, your own smile making it’s way to your face, “Taking on someone’s dream like that takes a lot of strength and courage, I think. I’m sure your brother is happy.”
“I hope so…”
“Makes me wish I had known what Lami’s dream was…so I could make it happen for her.”
It makes you feel a little bad to hear that, but you know Law isn’t trying to garner sympathy, like when he’d told you his life story. He didn’t get the time he deserved to have with Lami as her big brother, she didn’t have the chance to grow up and live out her own dreams and desires.
If he knew what they would’ve been, you know Law would be fighting to make it happen, like you with taking on Sabo’s dream.
“I bet she would’ve wanted you to be happy, Law.”
“…I would’ve wanted the same for her.”
Twenty more hearts…
Just a little more before Law will feel better about sending you back to your brother and crew, knowing he could extend Warlord protections onto you at least.
Just a bit longer before his plans can really be enacted.
+!+
You make a realization one day a few months later.
It happens while you watch Law work as you try to do the same, but somehow he’s distracting you just by being there. Not in a bad way though, it’s not like how Luffy and Ace would distract you when you were younger. It’s more of you simply letting your eyes and mind wander towards him, even when you should be working yourself, you just can’t help it.
The last couple months have been more than you ever would’ve expected. It may be your first relationship, and Law’s too, but you’ve both enjoyed every bit of time you’ve spent together. There have been a few close calls with your relationship almost being exposed to the rest of the crew, but no one has said anything to you or Law about it. You’ve done well to keep it secret, only Ikkaku and Penguin know everything.
You’ve felt nothing but safe and happy with Law, before you ever started dating, but now you feel it more and he’s told you how he wants to keep you safe, no matter what happens. You feel the same, it doesn’t matter that Law is older or stronger than you, he deserves to feel safe and loved too.
It's right before your birthday, and the Heart Pirates planned party to celebrate Law becoming a warlord at the same time, that you decide you know exactly what it is you’ve been feeling lately. Watching Law, enjoying the quiet moments, learning a little more about each other every day, you’ve come to realize you love him.
Everything you’ve come to know about Law and his life, how he’s treated you and his crew, the way he’s made space for you in his room and office, allowing you to stay as long as you need, it's brought you even closer to him and caused you to notice how strong your feelings for him have become.
You love Law and you have every intention of telling him that tonight, even after you both slip away from the party his crew threw together. Penguin notices, pointing it out to Ikkaku, and they both work to make sure the rest of the crew doesn’t notice or suspect anything. They’ve done their best to keep your situation a secret, you two can have all the privacy and time you need before you’re ready to tell anyone else.
Once you’re back to his room, after Law has given you your gift (a new notebook for your writings and your own copy of the first few volumes of Sora), you can’t help but to kiss him almost nonstop, leading Law to pull you into his lap as he kisses you back before you decide something.
“Wait, stop.”
When you put your hand on the one he has just under your shirt, Law thinks he’s moved too fast for you, that you aren’t ready for anything more than kissing and dating, that’s fine if so, but he starts to get anxious that he’s screwed everything up. He didn’t mean to, he wanted to make your birthday special, but only if you’re comfortable. If you aren’t, he’ll apologize and make it right however you want. He doesn’t want to ruin what you have right now, taking that next step in your relationship can wait if you’re not ready for anything more.
“Sorry, was that too fast? I didn’t—”
“No, Law, relax,” you giggle a bit seeing how flustered he looks, before continuing, “I just…I need to tell you something first.”
Now he’s more concerned and thinking he’s definitely done something wrong. You seem nervous about whatever it is you have to say, looking like you’re thinking about it. The silence is making Law more anxious as seconds go by, it feels so much longer. He tightens his arms around your waist just a bit to try and coax the words out, which makes you sigh, arms still around his neck, a soft smile on your face.
“…I love you, Law.”
“You…you what?”
You’re not worried that he didn’t say it back, or that he looks almost horrified at your confession, you know enough about Law to understand why, so you don’t feel like this was a mistake. You needed him to know, as soon as possible, you just had to get those words out to him, even though he’s looking more scared than you’ve ever seen and his hold on you is tighter than it’s ever been, you think.
It doesn’t matter though. You keep smiling at him while you kiss his cheek to try and calm down what you know are racing thoughts.
“I said I love you, Law…I just wanted you to know.”
He wants you to take it back, but he can’t seem to speak. With everything that’s happened in his life, you’ve said the three words he's been scared to hear come out of your mouth since you started your relationship.  What he’s dreaded happening ever since he agreed to be your boyfriend.
Not because he didn’t want this relationship, it’s not that he doesn’t want you, it’s that he’s now utterly terrified of what may come next.
The words you’ve said, your first ever love confession to Law has him near a panic once he realizes what you’ve done. You’ve said you love him, it’s only been a few months, how are you so sure?? Why did you have to say that, why did those words come out of your mouth, don’t you remember what’s happened to those who have said they love him?!
“Law.”
No, no, you’re not serious, that’s it. Maybe you’re tipsy or flat drunk, it’s your birthday and you’ve been drinking, that must be it. You don’t know what you’ve said and won’t remember in the morning, he's sure of it. It’s better you don’t remember, he’ll make himself forget this ever happened. You’re not in love with him already, you didn’t say those three words that haunt him with Corazon’s smile, or his mother’s perfume, his sister’s hugs, and his father’s laughter.
“Law, hey.”
It’s not real, none of this is real right now. He’s going to wake up and this won’t have happened at all. You can’t die, you can’t follow the footsteps of those who have loved him in the past. He can’t lose you too, he just can’t, not again. It won’t happen again, he won’t allow another precious person to be taken from him, not for the third time, please don’t die. Please don’t leave him like the others have.
“…you can’t die too…”
It breaks your heart to hear him say that, with shallow breaths that tell you he’s not okay and you need to do something, leading to you gently shushing him as his breathing picks up. You start to feel awful and know you’ve got to calm Law down before he goes into a full blown panic attack.
“Oh, Law, calm down. Breathe, honey,” Law doesn’t even notice he’s nearly hyperventilating until you place your hands on his face, bringing your forehead against his to try and calm him, “I’m not going anywhere, shh. It’s okay. I won’t die, Law.”
Oh, he must’ve been saying everything out loud, not in his head. He didn’t notice that either, it all must’ve come out so rushed he couldn’t stop from running his mouth with his fears and worries. He only realizes the tears in his eyes when you wipe them away, placing a kiss on his forehead before bringing his head to your chest, letting him wrap his arms around you as tightly as he can while he listens to your heartbeat. As he slowly starts to calm down, you run your fingers through his hair while he continues to hold you as close as he possibly can, it’s probably going to be a while before he lets you go.
“Law—”
“I,” his voice is strained from fighting not to cry but your shirt’s already damp from his tears even as he tries to choke them down, “I can’t lose you too…not you, please.”
You shush him again, kissing the top of his head this time before laying your forehead against his hair.
He feels a bit pathetic at the moment, if he were to be honest. Nearly twenty-six and clinging to his twenty-two year old girlfriend like a child does to their mother. If he were anyone else, Law would’ve pushed you away and tried to look more manly in front of you, but he knows you don’t want that and he doesn’t care to hide his feelings right now. You just wanted him to know, that’s what you said when you told him those words, it's why you say them again and brush your fingers through his hair once more.
“I won’t leave you, don’t worry. Even when I go back to Luffy and them, my heart is yours, Law.”
It’s an impossible thing to promise, that you won’t die and you’ll be safe after you return to the Straw Hats, but it’s enough for Law at the moment to calm him. He nods but continues to hold you close, face buried in your shirt while you stroke his hair and whisper your love and sweet nothings to him. He wonders if he should say it back, even though he’s not sure where his feelings are at this moment, but he still opens his mouth to speak.
“Stay with me tonight. Please.”
“Of course, Law. Whatever you need.”
“…I just need you.”
He’s not there yet, not where he can say the same words to you, but you don’t seem to mind. When you repeat them to him, over and over again, Law starts to believe that this time is different. Maybe this time, he won’t lose someone who loves him. Maybe he’ll be allowed to love you back, to have some happiness in his life for the first time in over a decade.
Maybe this time he’ll be able to return those words when he’s ready.
~~
The rest of the Heart Pirates know something must have happened the night before, after you and Law returned to the ship without them, since none of them see him for quite a while that next morning. Those who still don’t know your relationship think you two must’ve had a fight about something, while Ikkaku and Penguin, your confidants on the ship, have the full story from you when you bring both into your room after breakfast. You tell them not to expect to see Law much today, and when you finish explaining, Ikkaku gives you a sympathetic look while Penguin sighs and scratches his head.
“Damn, I never thought Captain would react like that…”
“Can you blame him?” Ikkaku makes an annoyed face at Penguin before turning back to you, “The last person to tell him that…”
“Was Corazon, and he died soon after.” You nod, the story is still fresh from when Law told you everything, so you do understand. You understand why he nearly had a full mental break down last night after you said ‘I love you’ to him, he hadn’t expected it and in his past experience, those words do not lead to positive outcomes. “I feel so bad about it…”
“Oh, no, no, you shouldn’t,” setting a hand on your shoulder, Penguin tries to reassure you as Ikkaku hugs you, “I think it just means Captain cares about you a lot more than he even realized, if his first thought was that he was going to lose you.”
“Penguin is right, Law definitely has strong feelings for you. He was probably just worried. He seems to think all he ever does is lose people…”
“He’s not going to lose me,” you grip the pillow in your lap tight for a moment before releasing it, “I love Law, and I’m going to prove it to him that he doesn’t just lose people who love him. He's still got all of you, right?”
They both nod as you sigh, moving to get up from your bed when Ikkaku asks where you’re going.
“I’m going to bring Law something to eat, he’s been in his room all morning.”
“He may not want anything…normally he’s good to just—”
“No, I’m gonna make sure he knows I’m here for him,” once you’re up with shoes on, you give the two a smile, “Let everyone know Law and I are fine, I’ll take care of him today.”
Penguin goes and lets everyone know it’s a day off, he tells them Law isn’t feeling well and to go do what they want, practically everyone leaving to go back to the island for shopping or relaxation. You, of course, stay aboard, starting to make something for you and Law to share for lunch, anyone still hanging around leaves you alone, knowing you’re taking care of things. Whatever might be wrong, because none of them believe Law is sick, you’ll make it okay.
You’re nearly done making the food when you see an arm come around your shoulders, the other around your waist, Law presses a soft kiss to the back of your head before putting his forehead on your shoulder.
“How are you—”
“I’m sorry about last night,” he’s quiet as he speaks, you shake your head before setting down the spoon you were using and turning around to take his face in your hands, “I just. I didn’t expect that and it freaked me out because I thought of my…my family and Cora-san, I’m sorry. I know it doesn’t mean you’re going to die, but I—”
“Shh, it’s okay,” You kiss him before hugging him properly, letting Law continue to hide his face in your shoulder, “I know I surprised you, but I really just wanted you to know that I love you.”
Taking a breath, Law still doesn’t like hearing that from you yet, but he nods, tightening his hold on you. The two of you stay like that for a while, you once again speak sweetly to him, making Law feel better but he still feels like he’d look like a child to anyone else if they saw this. Some people wouldn’t see an adult relationship but maybe think he's leaning too much on you, but you haven’t had any problems with that yet. It doesn’t fully make sense to him, why you haven’t pushed him away and said this is all too much, with the emotional baggage he has, he doesn’t understand it at all.
“I’m scared I’ll lose you too sometimes, you know,” Law pulls away enough to look at you, confused by what you mean at first, “You’re a Warlord now…I know it keeps the Navy off you, but other pirates will still come after you. I don’t want to lose another loved one.”
“You’re not gonna lose me.”
“Then you have to believe you won’t lose me either.”
He gets that and understands you didn’t tell him you love him because you were trying to scare him or anything like that. You really do just love him, Law knows he’s going to have it accept that even if someone tells him those words, it doesn’t mean they’re doomed immediately. It doesn’t mean he’ll lose them, precedence be damned, he’ll be the one to make sure nothing happens to you. He was too young, too small to protect Corazon or his family, but now that he's grown and stronger, he can at least protect you while you’re under his care.
“I’ll try.”
“That’s enough for me,” you give Law a smile that he slightly returns, before leaning up to kiss him briefly, “I love you.”
Although he’s not ready to say it back to you, Law nods before kissing your forehead and hugging you again, quietly thanking you. Its enough, you know it’ll take him some time to get to the same point, but that’s okay.
You’ll just keep loving Law, helping him where you can, to show him that he doesn’t only lose people he loves. He’s not going to lose you and you’re not going to lose him.
“You should probably eat something.”
“Yeah, probably,” Law watches you as you turn back to finish the lunch you were making, “Also…before I freaked out last night, we…are you okay...going further?”
For a moment you’re confused, before you see the light blush on his face and realize what Law means, your own face heating up when you quietly say ‘oh’ as you remember. Things got interrupted after you said you love him, and the two of you had settled to laying in his bed, his arms around you and face in your shirt while you just held Law close and calmed him.
After another minute or so, you just nod.
“Yeah I…I’m okay with that,” you can tell he’s relieved when Law sighs and nods, making you smile, “But another night. Right now we should eat!”
Law doesn’t really get how you’re able to change subjects so quickly but he is hungry so he’s not going to complain about it. Not when you’ve made one of his favorite meals and taken the time to make sure it’s perfect for both of you. You both enjoy your lunch together, and whenever another one of his crewmates comes by or returns to the ship from their time on the island, they all seem just as relieved to see Law is out of his office and doing well, he’s back to acting as a captain should later that day.
Everything is fine, and they all know you’re to thank for that. Every one of them, that doesn’t know yet, hopes that you and Law will come together one day, and they’ll all support you and their captain through everything.
+!+
When Law wakes with you in his bed after your first time together, he’s still not sure he believes it. He watches you sleep peacefully for several minutes, knowing you’re safe with him, that you chose to spend the night with him for the first time because you love and trust him.  Honestly he couldn’t even believe the night before was the first for both of you. He’d figured that, even though you’ve never had a boyfriend, you’ve probably hooked up with someone before. It’s common for pirates to do, or he thought maybe Sanji or Zoro had managed a situationship with you. But when you tell him neither had ever even made a move on you, he’s surprised.
“Probably because I’m the captain’s sister haha. I’m considered off limits to those boys.”
He’s not sure if your crewmates would like knowing you’re with him, he hasn’t been since your relationship started, but he’s started not caring. You’re an adult, you can make your own decisions. You did last night, after Law made sure multiple times you were comfortable with taking your relationship further. He hopes you don’t regret anything when you wake up, but with how much you said you loved him last night, he knows you won’t. He really does wish he was at the point where he could tell you the same, but you understand, he doesn’t know how but you do.
Law watches you sleep for a few minutes longer, stroking your cheek while you bury your head deeper into his pillow in your sleep.
“Mm…love you…Law…”
It’s strange how you can say that so easily, even in your sleep, and how it makes him feel so emotional at the same time. How do you do this, make him want to cry at 5:30am just from saying you love him? It’s enough for Law to leave his bed finally, going to his bathroom to wash his face and calm himself down before he wakes you. Splashing water on his face, Law stops to look at himself once he dries off, he doesn’t know how to handle this. How to handle the love you give him so freely and easily. The last person to do that was Corazon, that’d been so long now.
“Cora-san…I don’t know how to handle this…”
Law never really expected to fall so hard for someone, it wasn’t something he ever worried about. Falling in love, getting married, having children, it’s not something Pirates normally do, he’s only ever viewed it as a civilian lifestyle. To be settled in one place where they could raise their family, it sounded good when he was a child but now, it’s such a dangerous thing to think about.
If the right person figures it out, he’s afraid he’ll lose you like he’s lost everyone else that’s told him they love him.
So many new ‘what-ifs’ are taking over his thoughts, there’s so much to think about now.
What if someone finds out and uses your relationship against him, or against Luffy? What if you get pregnant? Of course you were safe last night, but even Law knows protection is only so effective. Law would protect you of course, but it's another fear that someone could find out and use it against him. He doesn’t think he could handle losing a family again if that were to happen.
What if you decide he’s too much with the baggage he has? Would you leave him and want to forget your relationship even happened?
No, after last night, Law is sure you won’t do that, at the very least. You’re in this for the long haul, and so is he, neither of you are getting out of this relationship easily. You’re both too attached at this point.
He’s there for a few moments longer, thinking and trying to work things out in his head, before he’s surprised by your arms coming around his middle and your head laying on his back. You place a soft kiss to his tattooed back with a ‘good morning’, which Law returns.
“Did you sleep well?”
“I did. You?”
You nod, smiling up at him when he looks over his shoulder at you and places one of his hands on yours.
“I borrowed your shirt, hope that’s okay.”
“More than okay. It looks better on you.”
It makes you giggle while Law smiles, you tell him you’re going to steal it then and he doesn’t fight you on it.
“Do you wanna take a shower with me?”
“I’d love that, Law.”
Your shower is quick, only due to you needing to head off to your room so no one is suspicious of you being gone all night, especially Ikkaku so she doesn’t start asking questions. You’d rather stay with Law for the next couple hours before everyone else is awake, since you personally believe that most of his crew has figured things out by now, but you do understand his being worried that it might leak to the World Government and someone could target you to get to him once he becomes a Warlord. You try to extend your time with Law by wrapping your arms around his shoulders and kissing his face over and over, enjoying the slight blush he gets from it that only you ever notice.
“All right, all right,” he doesn’t sound annoyed, more like he’s appreciative of your affection, “You need to go on back.”
You pout, shaking your head before burying your face in his chest while he sighs and pats your head. “Last night was nice…I don’t want to go yet…”
“It was nice. Next time, you can stay longer…”
“Next time, hm?” Your grin makes him roll his eyes before responding to you.
“Don’t read too much into it, dork,” Law pinches your cheek a bit, making you whine before he kisses you one more time for that morning, “Of course there’ll be a next time. You’re my girlfriend, aren’t you?”
“Yeah, I sure am,” nodding, leaning up just a bit more, you rub your nose against his briefly, “And you’re my boyfriend, my love.”
You leave a moment later, after telling him again that you love him, and Law wishes he could’ve responded in kind to you. You don’t seem to be upset he doesn’t, you never have. You’d told him that a simple ‘thank you’ is enough of a response until he’s ready to say it back to you. You’re willing to wait until he’s ready.
Law hopes he works things out before you have to return to the Straw Hats in a few short months. He doesn’t want to leave you wondering once you’ve separated.
Cora-san…I think I found who I’m meant to be with for the rest of my life…
Despite the worries and he has about losing you, about someone finding out and trying to use it against him, Law is determined not to let anything happen to you, even after you return to Luffy and your crew.
He's not going to let another person who loves him be harmed again. He’ll prove he doesn’t just lose loved ones and he can protect them.
Even if still may take him some time to return your words, Law is going to protect you, even when you’re miles away from him again.
I won’t let anything happen to you.
+!+
You’re not surprised when the Heart Pirates throw a going away party the night before you’re set to return to your crew. They’ve docked in Sabaody, but your intentions are to leave the next morning, you arrived a day early thanks to Law’s planning, so you have just a bit more time with the people who have become another family to you. They’ve all celebrated your birthday twice now, and tonight they’re celebrating you as an honorary Heart Pirate, you’ll never be rid of them, they all laugh when Shachi says it with a grin. It makes you laugh too, though you feel sad at the thought of leaving them, you’re anxious and excited to go back to your crew.
You want to see Luffy again, despite the part of you that wants to stay with Law.
Speaking of, you notice after a few more minutes that he’s not been around or said anything, and don’t see him when you stop to try and find your boyfriend. When you ask Hakugan, he says Law had gone back to his office a bit ago, telling him not to worry about anything and to keep the party going for you. It makes you wonder if he’s gotten overwhelmed once again, to the point you sneak off like you do often it seems, to go check on him. You don’t plan to let him stay locked away in his office, not when you have so few hours left before you have to leave, so you knock on the door and say his name, not getting a response at first.
“Law? Can I come in?”
“Go back to everyone, I just need a few minutes.”
“Are you sure? We can—”
“I’m fine, don’t worry.”
You don’t leave, trying to find something to say, before you nod to yourself.
“Okay, I’ll see you when you come back then.”
It’s not the party itself that overwhelmed him, Law only got that way as he heard everyone saying such nice things about you, how much they’ll all miss you when you leave and they’ll be waiting to see you again. The strain in Bepo’s voice when he talked about how much he’ll miss you being around too, the grins Shachi and Penguin had when they talked about your stories you’d tell them, Clione and Uni bragging about your cooking, Ikkaku nearly in tears because she was going to be the only girl on board again. It was just too much for Law at the moment, especially when Penguin nudged him and told him he needed to say something too. It felt too final to do that, made Law anxious, and he had to leave. He didn’t want to seem like a downer or make anyone else sadder than they already were to have you leaving, so he chose to step away for a bit.
You’ve changed things in the last two years, Law really does believe that. Especially with him, you’ve made him realize he's not going at things alone with his crew just along for the ride.
You’ve fallen in love with him and given him something he’s needed for a long time, reassurance more than anything, that you aren’t going to leave him alone.
Even if he doesn’t come back to the party, you’ll be okay with it. You’ll join him that night once everyone else has started to wind down and it gets quiet again. You’ll have one more night together before you leave, that’s more than enough for Law right now.
~~
“You could stay.”
“No,” Sighing you set yourself up on one elbow, holding your face in your hand, while you brush your fingers through Law’s hair with the other, “I really can’t.”
“Yes, you can.”
“Luffy needs me,” you lay your head on Law’s chest, while he keeps an arm around your shoulders, “I’d love to stay but…I need to be with him.”
Law doesn’t say anything at first, placing his hand on your head and stroking your hair. He knew that would be your answer, even with an open invitation to join his crew and stay on the ship. Every one of the Heart Pirates loves you, they’re all happy Law has found you, and they wish you’d stay. Ikkaku wants to have a roommate still, even if you’ve been spending most of your nights in Law’s room, she’s going to miss having someone to gossip with. Penguin and Shachi want you to stay because they’ve never seen Law so relaxed before, and Bepo just loves you so much, you’ve helped him with so many things the last two years.
They’ve all come to see you as a member of the crew, if the going away party they threw for you is anything to go by.
“…I wish you would stay.”
You stay quiet but nod, moving enough to lay on top of him with your arms crossed under your chin. You’re sure you haven’t seen him look so sad since he'd told you his past, but he's definitely not near tears or anything. You don’t expect that anyway, it’s not Law and that’s okay. You love him as he is.
“Are you going to tell him about us?”
“Mm,” you nod a little, already having that planned, “Luffy needs to know, I don’t like to keep things from him.”
Law understands that, he’s perfectly fine with you telling Luffy. If you had said no, he was going to try and convince you to do so anyway. He deserves to know, maybe he’ll be understanding and let you join the Heart Pirates, who knows? You know Luffy the best, you may have the same idea, but Law also knows you probably won’t leave right away even if Luffy is okay with it.
“I love you, Law,” you lay your head back on his chest and Law simply hugs you close, kissing the top of your head, “Nothing’s going to change that.”
“I know…”
Once you fall asleep, Law watches you for a bit, wishing you would make the choice to stay with him and his crew. Everyone loves you, they feel like you belong there with them, he can’t count how many times they’ve all told him to just steal you away from the Straw Hats, but Law could never do that. He’d never force you to stay if you didn’t want to.
He's realized he loves you too much to do that. When you’re ready to stay, you will, he knows that.
“It’s so stupid…” Law is quiet, whispering mostly to himself to keep from waking you, “I wish I could just tell you. But the words just don’t come out when I try…”
He worries he’s woken you when you start to stir in your sleep, until you settle back down, he breathes easy again and holds you closer.
“…I do love you…I hope you know that.”
I promise I’ll tell you when I can.

Summary: You, a member of the Strawhat Pirates, had met Trafalgar Law at Sabaody Archipelago two years ago. You had wandered off from the crew to explore the island on your own and bumped into him in a coffee shop. The two of you chatted awhile, mostly about medicine, but a bit about your adventures. Later that day, you ran back into him, and he saved you during the battle at the auction house. 2 years later, You and your crew bumped into him in the New World and formed an alliance with him at Punk Hazard. You were paired with him for a large portion of your time at Punk Hazard. You even chose to spend some of your down time after escaping the lab facility catching up with him. Now, after leaving Punk Hazard, you, your crewmates, Kinemon, Momonosuke, and Law, headed for Dressrosa to take on Doflamingo. The only issue, you found Law insanely attractive, had developed feelings for him, and were now headed for another adventure with him in your new found alliance.
You stood against the railing of the top deck of the Sunny and stared out at the ocean. Your hair billowed in the wind  behind you. You listened to the antics of your crew as your crewmates gave Law (who they were now calling “Traffy” thanks to your captain) Kinemon, and Momo a tour of the ship. You laughed as you heard Law get angry at Luffy’s suggested changes to his plans for Dressrosa.
Your hands gripped tighter to the railing as you stared more intensely at the sparkling waves of the ocean before you. You took a deep inhale of the salty air and tucked a strand of hair behind your ear. Your thoughts turned to wondering what else the New World could hold for you and your crew as you looked to take on another Warlord and beyond to an Emperor of the Sea. It had already begun with an unlikely ally. An ally, you couldn’t help, but feel butterflies around. His hat had changed and something else was different about him too. He was more serious than he had been on the other side of the Red Line. This mission, something about it, seemed extremely personal to him.
Law, was so mysterious. Why was he without his crew? Why was he willing to ask for help? Why your crew? Why had the thought of his tattooed fingers been stuck in your mind for 2 years? Why could you not stop thinking about his dark messy hair that stuck out from his furry cap and his yellow-gray eyes? Footsteps began to approach from behind you, but you were too lost in your thoughts to notice.
“Y/N.” Law called as he stopped behind you.
“Hmm…?” You asked as you quickly swung your head around to look at him.
Noticing who it was, you stepped back from the rail to turn your body to face him. The dark circles under his eyes were very prominent. His expression was blank as he stared at you. A soft smile formed across your lips as you grabbed the railing behind you.
“Heard you signed up for guard duty tonight, mind if I join you?” He questioned.
“Oh, uh, sure.”
He nodded at you, then began to walk away. You took a deep breath hesitating before deciding to speak again. The rest of your crew found your mother hen nature charming, annoying, but charming, they were thankful for it. You weren’t sure how a guest would handle it.
“Law.” You started to call. “How long has it been since you got some rest?”
“A few days, I’m fine.” He replied as a breath visibly caught in his chest.
You took a step towards him. The deck creaked beneath your feet causing Law’s body to stiffen. You looked up at the sky hesitating about your actions.
“Maybe Law’s crew never encouraged him to get rest, or maybe without them, there was no one to encourage him.” You thought to yourself as you returned your gaze to him stopped in his tracks.
“Law, you look exhausted, you should head to the men's dorm and try to take a nap.”
“I’m fine. Besides, You guys have spent one day in the New World and that room already smells like ass. I wouldn’t be able to sleep there. This crew is so loud I don’t know how any of you get any rest.” He replied.
“Law…” You hesitated again. “What if I could get Nami and Robin to stay out of the girls' dorm? Think you could get some rest there? I promise it doesn’t smell like ass. You could use my bed and I could ask the crew to steer clear of the area for a few hours. I just… I just want everyone at their best for tomorrow.”
“Fine.” He said as he looked back over his shoulder at you, then walked away towards the main deck. You watched him go and returned your gaze to the ocean for a brief moment.
“Okay great, but where are you going to nap before guard duty, you idiot?” You said to yourself with a sigh. “Once again your putting others before yourself has got you into a jam… Oh well. It’s Law’s plan, he needs the rest more than I do.”
You walked down the steps of the top deck to the main deck in search of Nami and Robin. You found them sitting at a table sipping specialty drinks from Sanji. They also agreed to help keep the rest of the crew away from that part of the ship. Nami laughed deviously when you asked and charged you a ridiculous amount of berries. Robin had smiled suspiciously while you and Nami haggled. Ultimately, both agreed to stay out of the girls dorm for a few hours. They also both agreed to babysit the rest of the crew and keep them away from that part of the ship, so Traffy could rest. You thanked them, but found Robin a bit too encouraging when she sent you off to go find Traffy. You warned the rest of your crewmates of Traffy napping and asked them not to disturb him. They agreed, then returned to their shenanigans.
You found Law, as you preferred to refer to him, back on the top deck of the ship. He was looking out at the ocean lost in thought. You smiled at how peaceful he looked, but it faded as you noticed the intense expression on his face. His elbows rested on the ship's rail as he leaned over it. He looked like he was carrying a tremendous burden he wasn’t sharing. You trusted him, you felt like at this point, now in an alliance with him, you could call him a friend. Would he go that far? Probably not, but you and your captain trusted Law.
“Law.” You called.
“-tch”. You heard his lips escape, as his jaw tightened and he broke out of his train of thought.
He stood up tall and turned to face you. His arms rested wide on the rails beside him. His body remained tense as his gaze met yours. A smile grew across your lips as he looked at you.
“Come on, the crew isn’t going to bug you. I’ll show you where you can get some rest for a few hours.”
“Fine.” He replied, letting go of the rails.
You walked towards the girls dormitory and he followed. Nami smiled at you devilishly from across the ship as you walked past her. You rolled your eyes at her and continued forward. Law didn’t say anything as you walked. You reached the door of the girls dorm and grabbed the handle.
“Here we are. Hopefully, you can sleep here a few hours, or at least close your eyes for a bit.” You said as you opened the door.
You flipped on the lights revealing a room with three beds, a pink one, a purple one, and a blue one. In Between each bed was a small side table. Next to the purple bed were books, next to the pink bed were a mixture of trinkets and books, and next to the blue bed there were trinkets, a book, and a beat up journal. Yours was the bed with the puffy blue comforter against the furthest wall. Atop it lay a soft plush blanket and several pillows of varying plumpness. You walked towards it and pointed.
“This one's mine. Feel free to use any of the pillows or blankets or throw anything off.”
Law sat down on the bed and put his finger tips together. He looked down at his feet on the floor and rested his sword against the table next to the bed.
“I would’ve guessed this one was yours. Thanks.” He said flatly.
He didn’t look you in the eye to thank you. You were giving up your rest before your next adventure and he hadn’t even looked at you. Sure you could’ve tried to nap somewhere else on the ship, but you were a light sleeper and Law was right, this crew was loud. You couldn’t believe you considered him cute. At that moment, you were beyond angry at yourself. You gave him a half smile and turned around to head for the door.
“Y/N.” Law called out to you.
“Yeah?”” You asked as you turned back mid-step to face him.
“You’re on guard duty tonight, where are you going to sleep beforehand?” He questioned as he looked you in the eye.
“I don’t need to rest, I’m good. You look exhausted, Law, get some rest, please.” You begged.
“You need rest too, things in Dressrosa aren’t going to be easy…” He said as his gaze looked back down at the floor in front of him.
“A nap does sound great.” You said with a yawn. “I’ll find somewhere else. Unless… well it is my bed… or I can probably crash on...” You started as you nervously raised a hand to the back of your head and shifted in place.
“Fine.” He replied.
You stood wide eyed staring at him as he sat up straighter on your bed and peeled his sweater off. You hadn’t realized his chest was tattooed. You felt butterflies in your stomach swirl faster and faster. Your cheeks heated up as a pink hue fell across them. You tried to close your mouth, but all you could do was watch as he peeled back the covers and scooted to the far side of the bed. He faced the far wall and laid on his side, his back to you. You turned to close the door and gulped hard. You closed your eyes and took a deep breath as you flipped off the lights and kicked off your shoes. Hesitantly, you made your way toward your bed where the attractive man laid. Your hand shaking slightly, you lifted the covers and climbed in next to him.
You were wearing a cropped t-shirt and short-shorts that you had changed into after leaving the cold side of Punk Hazard. Suddenly, your clothes felt very small as electricity tingled between the space of your two bodies on the bed. You felt far from him and yet, so close. Your heartbeat quickened as your thoughts raced. You wanted to scoot closer to him, but knew he was here to nap, not to frolic in your fantasies. You couldn’t help, but think about it though, the feeling of his skin against yours. You quietly gulped as you turned from your back, to lay on your side, facing the door, and away from Law. You shifted a bit against your pillow and tried to get comfortable. You’d never slept beside someone like this before. It was intimate and meaningless to him, you were sure. You tucked your ponytail up and away from your neck and you shut your eyes. The deafening silence filled the air as you tried to clear your mind and drift off to sleep. Then, the mattress squeaked as Law turned to lay on his side, now facing you. Your eyes flicked open, chest froze mid-rise.
Your heart began to race again. Every inch between you felt too far. You took a deep breath and sat up a bit to fluff your pillow. You couldn’t take it, it was like a magnet was pulling you to him. You used the pillow fluffing as an opportunity to scoot your body further into the bed towards Law. Your back still to him, you shimmied your lower back and rear end in front of him. His arm was laying on the mattress near your lower back. The two of you weren’t touching, but you could feel the weight of his arm sunken into the mattress behind you. A small shift or the adjustment of his hand and you would be touching. You were being driven mad by the sparks flying between your bodies at the need to be connected. Having just moved, you were too afraid to scoot closer. You closed your eyes again and pretended to try to sleep. Hoping, he would close the gap between you or you’d fall asleep and the need to be closer to him would disappear.
A few minutes passed in silence. Then, the weight of the mattress shifted behind you once more causing your heart to race. Lightning shot through your body as the side of his hand and his pinky adjusted to lay against your lower back. Your breath caught in your chest and a smile grew across your cheeks. You shifted your hips backwards, closer to his. His fingertips slowly slid up your back causing fireworks to shoot through your body as his entire hand moved to rest upon your waist. You took a deep breath, then turned your head over your shoulder and looked for him in the dark.
Law raised his head from his pillow as you turned. Your eyes met. The bed squeaked as you rolled entirely on your back to look up at him. Your shoulder against his chest, his head towering over you, his hand had moved from your hip closest to him to the one farthest from him. His soft and chapped lips found yours in the darkness. They were gentle and unsure at first. Your hands left the bed and wrapped around his neck, finding his dark locks to twirl into. His kiss began to build  passionately as you parted your lips allowing your tongues to intertwine.
His Death tattooed fingers flipped the hem of your shirt as they wandered across your waist. You pulled him deeper into the kiss as his hands traveled further up your shirt. His thumbs gently brushed and toyed at the base of your breasts, before fully being enveloped and squeezed by his large thin hands. His lips never stopped their dance with yours as his hands slid from under your shirt back to your waist. In one quick motion, Law pulled you onto himself on the bed. Your legs straddled his pelvis as he pulled away from your kiss with a nibble at your lower lip. A string of saliva still attaching you to one another, he laid his head on the pillow behind him. You panted as you stared at one another in the darkness.
“Y/N. Do you want to..?” He muttered between pants.
“Yes.” You said as you attacked his lips with yours again.
His hands wrapped around your neck and jaw, pulling you deeper into his kiss. Your fingers intertwined with his hair. As you continued to kiss, his fingers traced down your body to the hem of your t-shirt. Your lips parted as he pulled your shirt over your head. His lips moved to nibble at your ear lobe. You moaned against his cheek as his hands slid up your spine to find the clasp of your bra. Your hands fell from his hair to his chest, where you began studying his toned muscles with your fingertips. Your mouth moved to his ear as he planted kisses down your neck.
“Traffy, I’ve wanted you since that cafe.” You whispered in his ear.
You felt a smile form across his lips, as he kissed the tops of your breasts, just above your bra cups. His hands met in the middle of your back and undid the clasp to your bra. You lifted your arms from his chest as he pulled it down your arms. Your breasts softly bounced as they were released from their fabric holder.
“Had I known that, I would’ve taken you there on a table or at the auction house.” He said as his slight grin flattened.
You sat up allowing him to admire the site of your bare chest. His eyes widened and his tattooed fingers lifted from his sides to play with your breasts and thumb at your nipples. He paused his play to pull your waist closer to him. While one hand held your waist, he kissed and nibbled his way down your collar bone to your breasts. You moaned as he bit at your sensitive buds. Your hands fingered through his dark locks as he licked at your buds. After another nibble of your nipple, Law grabbed your waist and fell backwards on the bed. He pulled you further on top of him.
His lips found yours once more. His hands roaming your waist and chest, you sat up on your hands. You let one of your hands trace down his chiseled chest until it found the zipper of his spotted jeans. You rubbed his hardening member through the fabric. His hands traveled from your chest to your waist where he fingered at the waistline of your shorts. You unzipped his jeans, pulling away from his kiss as you did. You rolled off of him a moment, to pull off your shorts and panties and tossed them on the floor beside the bed. Law pulled off his jeans and briefs and threw them in the same direction of yours.
Once both fully undressed, you rolled back on top of him, straddling your naked hips against his. He pulled the blanket over your waists and brought your lips back to his. Your hands over his shoulders, pinning him to the bed, his hands exploring your body. His hardened length poking into your abdomen.
A loud noise came from outside the door and suddenly, the door to the girls dormitory swung open and a beam of light filled the room. Luffy barrel rolled in, landing on his head with his back facing you. Usop followed closely behind Luffy and gasped as he stood in the doorway. Blood spurted out of Usop’s nose and his jaw hung open. You gasped as your lips pulled from Law’s and your head turned to the ruckus at the doorway. Nami and Robin appeared at the doorway behind Usop as you looked on. Their expression was confused as they looked at Usop. Once they looked through the doorway they smiled. Law’s teeth clenched and he growled. Your breasts were blocked by your arms and Law had fortunately just covered your naked waists. Your crew couldn’t see everything, but they knew what was up.
In one fluid motion, Law rolled you off him and sat up. Protecting your naked form by sitting up in front of you. You gripped onto his waist and scooted closer to him, hoping his body was fully covering you. Law’s hand rested on your waist behind him, keeping you in place.
“Strawhat!” Law yelled.
Luffy turned his head to look at you and Law. A big grin formed on his face. His expression was innocent. You closed your eyes and blushed.
“Hey Traffy! Hey Y/N! Heard you were taking a nap, sorry to interrupt. Usop and I were playing tag and well… I thought I could hide in here and trick him by pretending I was taking a nap too.” Luffy said as he rubbed his head and looked at the clothes laying next to the bed. “Wait… why are your clothes on the floor?” Luffy asked.
“Luffy, I told you to stay away from here! Leave Y/N and Traffy alone. They are strategizing about how to take down Doflamingo.” Nami said.
Nami walked into the room and grabbed Luffy by the ear. Usop continued to stand frozen in the doorway. Robin smiled as Nami dragged Luffy by the ear back to the entrance of the room. You gripped Law tighter hoping it would help recenter him and keep him from getting out of bed to kill Luffy and the rest of your crewmates.
“Ow Ow Ow!” Luffy screamed.
“Strategizing?” Robin questioned with a soft laugh as her hand raised to her mouth.
“Hey what’s all the ruckus?” Franky questioned as he appeared in the doorway behind Nami, Luffy, Robin, and Usop.
Franky blushed and his eyes widened. Luffy sat at Nami’s feet clawing at her hand. As you looked on in horror, Zoro and Sanji appeared behind the group at the door. Zoro looked in the door and closed his eye, as he did a smirk grew on his face. Sanji looked in the doorway and blood shot out of his nose as he saw your clothes on the floor. His eyes filled with rage as he looked up to see Traffy. Law’s body tensed against yours as he looked on at the group in the doorway.
“Can’t a guy take a nap in peace around here?!” Law yelled.
Nami and the rest laughed.
“Good for you Traffy, you could use some stress relief.” Zoro said.
“TRAFFY! We leave you alone to nap and this is what you do?! Y/N-SWAN!...” Sanji started to yell, but was interrupted by Nami’s fist hitting him in the head.
“Well I think it’s super. Sorry we interrupted.” Franky replied.
“Come on boys. Shows over.” Robin said as she pulled Usop and Zoro from the doorway.
Nami dragged Sanji and Luffy away from the room. Franky gave a thumbs up and shut the door. You sighed and put your forehead against Law’s back. He panted as he stared at the closed door.
“I’m going to kill them. Every last one.” Law said sternly.
“Law it’s fine. Thankfully it wasn’t all of them and they didn’t see anything.” You replied with a sigh.
“How can you be so calm about this, how do you survive with this band of lunatics?”
You laughed as you placed your chin on his shoulder and traced the tattoos on his arm. Law’s hand moved to your thigh. He continued to stare at the doorway as you started to kiss his shoulder.
“The good news is, now we can be as loud as we want.” You replied with a chuckle as you stopped kissing his arm to give him a cheesy grin. “I would like to get back to strategizing.”
Law looked over his shoulder at you and a small grin formed on his face. Law turned and grabbed your wrists, lying you back against the mattress, and pinning you to the bed. Your breath caught in your chest as you looked up at him. A large grin formed on his face.
“Want me to fuck you loud enough for your whole crew to hear… you naughty girl… I think that can be arranged.”
Law pressed his lips against briefly.  His lips then began interspersing kisses and bites down your body. Some were soft and other bites were hard, you knew the hard ones would leave a mark. Law certainly didn’t care anymore, the crew already knew what was going on, now he was laying claim to you. He pulled the blanket over his head as his kisses and bites traveled down your abdomen to your hips. At your hips, he paused, adjusting to nestle his head between your thighs. His lips slowly brushed against your inner thighs. He occasionally bit down as his lips trailed from your mid-thigh to your core. At your core, he brought his lips close and let you feel his warm breath upon your wet folds. His teasing made your hips buck with need. Then, he lifted the cover from over his head, and his golden eyes met yours.
Law grabbed your legs and tossed them over his shoulders. Your knees bent over his arms, causing your feet to rest on the bed. Law rested his head at your entrance, you felt a shiver run up your spine as Law let out another exhale at your entrance. He grinned as he gazed up at you. Your pants grew longer as you stared at him sitting in front of your entrance. Your hands gripped the sheets beneath you as you watched Law lick his lips.
“So needy for me and so wet all for me.  What a good girl.” Law praised. “Maybe you deserve a reward?” Law questioned.
“Yes.” You replied weekly.
You nodded aggressively. Your tits bounced as you did His eyes remained locked on yours as his tongue finally swiped at your entrance. Your legs tightened over his shoulders at the feeling of his tongue against you. One of your hands lifted from the sheet beneath you to reach for his hair. He laughed against your folds as your finger began clutching at his dark messy locks. His tongue trailed up your folds and swiped at your clit. Your feet came together behind Law’s head as he started drawing shapes with his tongue against your clit.
“Law.”
His arms clenched harder around your thighs as he pulled your hips closer to his lips. His tongue trailed back to your entrance doing a few swipes up and down your slick folds before entering you. His tongue entered you,  exploring your depths as you clenched around him. Your hips bucked against his face, resulting in Law gripping your thighs tighter still. His tongue dove deeper into you before returning to dance upon your g-spot. You moaned as you felt ecstasy begin to build in your stomach. Both your hands tangled in Law’s hair as your hips tried to fight his hold.
“Law. I’m close.” You moaned.
Law removed his tongue from your folds, placing a kiss upon them as he did. His eyes met yours as you started to pant harder and harder. His lips moved to your clit, he kissed it gently, then sucked and batted at it with his tongue. You moaned needily as  Law returned to taking vertical licks between your folds ending with swipes upon your clit. After a few of these he fervently began to suck and swipe at your clit, sending you over the edge.
“LAWWW.” You screamed loudly as your pelvis bucked against his face and fingers clenched tighter in his hair.
Your juices dripped out of your entrance and Law greedily lapped them up. You panted hard, closing your eyes as you came down from your high. Your fingers loosened their grip in Law’s hair as you tried to catch your breath. You stroked his head as he planted kisses back up your belly and chest until he reached your lips. As he moved up your skin your fingers fell from his head to his back. Once face to face with you, he tenderly kissed you and gently rested one hand upon your waist and the other next to your head, on the bed. You lazily opened your eyes and looked at him as he pulled his lips from yours.
“Such a good girl for me.” Law whispered.
Your hands slid down his back to the hardened member that now rested against your abdomen. You stroked up and down his member a few times, stopping to thumb at his tip that was covered in pre-cum. He grunted as you did.
“Need to feel you inside me.” You said as your eyes darted from his length to his golden/gray eyes.
“So needy for me.” Law praised.
Law removed his length from your grasp and lowered it to your entrance. With one hand still above your head, his gaze locked on your eyes. His other hand rubbed his length up and down your folds. As it moved, you started to pant, your feet slid your hips wider across the mattress, waiting for him to enter you. You moaned as Law began to tease your entrance with pressure from his tip. You tightened your grip on his back as he gently pushed into you. Law started to pant as clenched around his length. Once you relaxed, he began to push further into you. You closed your eyes tightly as he pushed further and further into you, he was big, so it was a lot at first, but he paused between pushes to allow you to adjust. Once fully in you, your walls clenched around him and his teeth clenched at the sweet sensation.
“You okay, Y/N?” Law asked.
“Yeah. I’ve never felt this full. Feels good.” You replied as your hips squirmed under him wanting to feel more..
You nodded as your eyes flicked open to meet his gaze. His lips sloppily slammed against yours as he began thrusting in and out of you. Law’s lips trailed to nibble at your ear, causing you to moan as his thrusting pace quickened.
“So tight for me. You take me so well.”
“Law.” You moaned as his lips moved to catch your nipple between his teeth.
Your hands clawed at his back as he got on his knees and lifted your hips with his tattooed hands. Your hips bucked as Law continued to thrust into you, the new position allowing Law’s length to dive deeper into you. You started to drool and your eyes rolled back in your head as Law pounded you harder. Another pound and you clenched around him, feeling his length twitch within your walls. Your hand reaches down to your belly to feel Law’s length deep inside you as he dove into you again. You moaned as you felt the heat building in your belly once again.
“Law going to…”
“Me too. Just hang on. Almost there.”
“LAWW...” You moaned with a gulp.
Law pounded into you faster and harder than before. The bed shook against the wall as you took him. You reached for the headboard behind you and held on for dear life. You moaned loudly, not afraid of who heard you because you were near ecstasy.
“Law!” You yelled, grip tightening around the headboard as your back arched.
“Now.” Law yelled through a grunt.
“LAWWWWW!” You moaned as he bottomed out in you.
Law slammed into you once more causing your heat to burst into ecstasy, your juices dripped down your thighs as he continued to pound into you through your climax. Your eyes hung half-lidded as he grunted and his length twitched harder within you. You clenched down again and felt a heat burst within your walls. He grunted through it.
“Y/N.” He moaned softly.
The two of you panted, bodies still interlocked. Law gently pulled his length from you and set your hips back on the bed. You reached for him and he fell on the bed next to you. You scooted across the bed closer to him until your nose rested beside his and your lips were parted between his, close, but not touching. With your hand on his chest, the two of you laid side by side trying to catch your breath. Once his heart stopped beating so fast, Law wrapped an arm around your waist and put his tattooed hand over the one that laid on his chest. Your eyes fluttered open and met his gray-gold orbs.
“Hopefully, that will help you sleep.” You whispered breathily.
“Sleep? Oh yeah… guard duty tonight. Dressrosa tomorrow.” Law said. “I think Strawhat owes us another “nap” on guard duty tonight.”
“Agreed.” You replied with a smile.
Law kissed you and pulled you deeper into his chest. He closed his eyes and rested his head against the top of yours. The two of you slowly drifted to sleep.

The Bane of My Existence
Pairing:Trafalgar Law x reader
Content: some spoilers for Sabaody arc (nothing major), enemies to lovers! strawhat reader, reader and law are both stubborn and argumentative smh, reader is more optimistic though, law is awkward and not great at understanding his own feelings <3
Word Count: 1.6k
A/N: part 1/2 for a little enemies to lovers fic! one of my favorite tropes but I almost never write about it... also I've been rewatching bridgerton and was very inspired by the relationship between Kate and Anthony, which is where the title comes from too! (can you guess what part 2 will be called?) anyway, enjoy and lmk your thoughts! :)
Part 2
Sabaody Archipelago is easily one of the coolest places you’ve visited so far. Not that Alabasta, Skypiea, Water 7, Thriller Bark weren’t cool too… but you’re a people person! And to get to see such a diverse mix of groups from all over the world converging here, on one island Archipelago, brings a genuine smile to your face. It truly does remind you of a theme park: from the attractions to the oversized trees and bubbles.
In fact, you’re so caught up in all the splendors of the carnival-esque grove that you don’t realize you’re being watched. Or, followed, rather.
The Heart Pirates, yet another crew from some vague corner of the world, have been tracking you for the better part of an hour now. Except, they’re only following their captain, who happens to be following you.
Hes not entirely discreet about it though, because at one point Bepo asks, “Um… Captain, why are we following them?”
Shachi responds unprompted, “Yeah, I’ve never seen their bounty poster so… what’s up?”
Law scowls, “I’m not following anyone.”
Though he is low-key following you, Law couldn’t give a good reason as to why. You walked past him and his crew on your way to meet up with the rest of your crew- the Strawhat Pirates- and he’d just sort of trailed after you once you’d gotten a safe distance ahead.
“Really? Because every time they stop for directions, we slow down. And we’ve turned at all the same spots, too… So it really does seem like we’re follo-“
“I am NOT following them.” He lies through (literally) gritted teeth.
Now, Trafalgar Law is in now way shape or form a believer in love at first sight. He’s never been in love period… but the feeling he gets from seeing you is something new and foreign. Like, he really wants to talk to you… he just doesn’t know what for. Law is still trying his best to come up with reasons to stop you and ask for your name when you overhear the brief argument between him and his friends.
With a quick glance over your shoulder, you spot a group of at least 10 on your trail. They’re in the middle of conversation, so they don’t notice you taking notice of them.
Your first instinct is to look around for your crew; but of course, they’re scattered across the groves of Sabaody Archipelago by now - as are you. “Sigh. I might just have to handle this in my own.” But, wait- who said they wanted to fight you? Maybe you should just approach them first, wouldn’t that give you the upper hand in some way? (It wouldn’t, but you can’t think of anything better than to try and charm your way out of a possible jumping with your friendliness and perfect smile.) So, you roll back your shoulders and take a breath before strolling back over the grass to your pursuers.
“Why would I be following some rand-“
“Because you have a crush on them!”
“Oh they’re cute, Captain, you should ask them to join!”
“Gasp! Yeah, then you can get to know-“
They all go silent (save for some quiet gasps) as you step toward the semi circle they’ve formed around one man- the only one not wearing a white uniform, who they call “Captain.” You tap him on the shoulder and he whips his head around.
“Excuse me, I was wondering if you could help me?”
The man just stares at you for a moment with a frown. You fear that you might’ve been wrong about his intentions, until he blinks and mumbles, “Uh… Sure.”
Your smile returns- of course you weren’t wrong! Plus, he’s kind of hot, but you’d catalog that thought and come back to it on some lonely night in the future. “Great! I’m looking for grove 41, it’s where some of my friends are.”
You’d learned back in Water 7 that sometimes, it was best not to disclose who exactly you’re traveling with, nor the location of your ship. (At least, not when you’re infamous pirates.)
“Grove 41? I’m headed there too.”
The polar bear wearing who is also wearing a white uniform clears his throat.
“I thought we were heading to Grove 1, Captain?”
“Oh, I wouldn’t want to get in y’all’s way then-“
“Nah, I think Captain would love to show you the way.”
“Shachi!” The captain sneers. “We’ll meet back up at Grove 1 after I show them the way." Then, he looks you up and down. It's quick and analytical rather than flirtatious or intimidating. "Don’t cause me any trouble.”
You smile. “Wouldn’t dream of it. I’m y/n, by the way.”
“Trafalgar Law, and this is my crew, the Heart Pirates.” He gestures around the semi circle, then turns to face them, “You guys go take a break or something. I’ll be back shortly.”
“But Captain, we want to go with you!”
One of the men with red hair- Shachi, you’re pretty sure, elbows the polar bear.
“Hey!…” He looks down at Shachi then gasps like he suddenly had a revelation; “Ohhh. Sorry Captain, we’ll see you later!”
Law rolls his eyes. “See you soon.”
There's something about his dark hair and grey eyes that charms you, right off the bat. Or maybe it's his relaxed, confident demeanor. Possibly even his idiosyncratic style of clothing, and how he (and all of his crew) wore the same logo; so very organized and professional. But no matter the exact reason as to why, you find yourself quite happy to be in his company.
Alas, he’s not a very talkative man, so you make up most of the conversation with questions and your own introductory information. “-and that’s how I got here, to Sabaody!”
“Uh huh. And who did you say your crew was again?”
“I, ahem, I don’t travel with a crew.”
“Right.” He laughs dryly.
“What is it?”
“You’re a bad liar.”
“I- I’m not lying!”
“Look, you don’t have to tell me what crew you’re a part of,” Law explains, “but don’t lie and say you’re not a pirate at all.”
“Well… it’s generally not a good idea to tell strangers that you’re a pirate. Not even nice ones, like you."
Ignoring the butterflies in his stomach that unexpectedly appear when you call him nice, Law's burning curiosity is fed by your roundabout half-answer. “Ah, so you are one? What’s your bounty?”
“That’s not really any of your business.” Though you believe his intentions to be purely based in curiosity, you're second guessing allowing this man to lead you away on an island grove that you have never visited, nor know anything about. Still, your crew is nowhere in sight or hearing range, which worries you given just how loud they usually are.
“I’m paying you a favor by leaving my crew to escort you to where I’m assuming your ship is located- it’s the least you could do.” Law’s tone is more prickly than before.
“Well, I don’t need an escort, and you’ve already walked me halfway there and pointed me in the right direction.”
“Fine- then I’ll leave.”
His sudden change in mood from what you interpreted as shy to borderline aggressive throws you off. And so, having a similar moody temperament and stubbornness (though you’d never admit it after seeing it so clearly in him), you return the sentiment. “Fine by me.”
You continue walking forward while Law turns back, until he calls over his shoulder. “And by the way; you’ll need to find your way through the lawless zone up ahead if you want to get to Grove 41.” If condescending was a person, it would be him. You’re sure of it. “That, or I could’ve shown you a much safer shortcut.”
You pause, turn to face him, roll your eyes, and continue walking.
“What, you’re still not going to ask for my help?”
“Don’t need it!” Which, you really don’t. You’re plenty strong, but your bounty is small enough to not be worried. “I’m not scared of a law-less zone, if anything I think I’d welcome it.”
Your mocking words hurt his ego in a way he hasn't felt in years, taking him down several pegs.
You don't even stick around long enough to listen to him rebuke everything about you, from your high and mighty tone to your vain attempts at lying, ending his one sided argument with a very classy middle finger your way. So, Law grumbles all the way back to Grove 1 to find his crew, and hopes to never see you again. Meanwhile, you find your way to the other Strawhats. Your adventure with them continues, and you don’t have much time to think of your earlier encounter with a handsome pirate and possible-friend turned enemy (if you could even call him that.)
Law doesn't know if his ego (or wildly beating heart) could take another second in your presence- it just might burst if it had to endure any more of your witty comments or sly looks. It would, however, be an interesting theory to test further, should you ever meet again.
The prospect is both horrifying and thrilling to him at the same time.

hi! i saw you were looking for angst requests and i thought about your last post with zoro. maybe reader and him were in a relationship before getting separated and the meeting/reunion turns angsty instead? like idk maybe he wants to take a break from the relationship and reader didn’t expect that
thanks ♡
Thank youuu for this request! This was hurting me while writing🥲
Seeing Zoro after the 2 year timeskip💔
Pairing: Zoro x GN! reader Contains: angst Wc: 810
The air on Sabaody Archipelago was humid, thick with the tension of reunions and anticipation. The two years apart had felt like a lifetime. You’d spent every day wondering what Zoro was doing, if he was safe, and whether he thought about you as much as you thought about him.
You had been in a relationship before the crew’s separation—a bond that had been as steady and unyielding as the man himself. Though he wasn’t the type to wax poetic about love, his actions had always spoken louder than words. The way he’d tilt his head toward you when you talked, the rare but genuine smiles he reserved just for you, and how he’d stand a little closer during battles, ready to shield you from danger.
But now, as he approached the Thousand Sunny, something felt... off.
You spotted him before he saw you. His green hair was as unruly as ever, his body broader, more imposing, with that deep scar slashing across his left eye. He looked every bit the warrior you remembered, but there was a heaviness in his steps, a tightness in his jaw that made your heart clench.
“Zoro!” you called, rushing toward him.
His eye flicked to you, and for a split second, you saw something flash in his gaze—relief, maybe—but it was gone as quickly as it appeared.
“Y/n.” His voice was steady, but it lacked the warmth you’d been aching to hear.
You slowed as you reached him, uncertainty creeping in. “It’s been so long,” you said, trying to keep your voice light despite the unease blooming in your chest. “You look... strong.”
He gave a curt nod. “You look good too.”
The formality of his words made your heart sink. This wasn’t the Zoro you knew. Something was wrong.
“Zoro, are you okay?” you asked, your voice barely above a whisper.
He hesitated, his gaze dropping to the ground for a moment before meeting yours again. “We need to talk.”
Your stomach twisted. That was never a good way to start a conversation. “Okay,” you said cautiously. “What’s going on?”
Zoro crossed his arms over his chest, his expression unreadable. “I’ve been thinking... about us.”
“Us?” Your heart pounded in your chest, a cold dread creeping up your spine.
He exhaled sharply, like he was steeling himself for a fight. “During these two years, I had one goal: to get stronger. To make sure I could protect everyone—protect you. But...” He paused, his eye narrowing slightly. “I can’t let myself get distracted.”
“Distracted?” you repeated, your voice trembling.
“I need to focus on my goal,” he said, his tone firm. “On becoming the greatest swordsman. And... being in a relationship... it’s—”
“A distraction?” you finished for him, your voice cracking.
Zoro flinched at the pain in your tone but didn’t deny it.
You took a step back, shaking your head. “I waited for you, Zoro. For two years. I thought about you every day, wondering if you were safe, if you missed me as much as I missed you. And now you’re telling me you want to take a break?”
His jaw clenched. “It’s not about you, Y/n. This is about me. I can’t afford to lose focus—”
“Don’t do that,” you interrupted, anger and hurt bubbling to the surface. “Don’t act like this is all for some noble cause. If you didn’t want this anymore, you should’ve just said so.”
“It’s not that simple,” he snapped, his voice rising for the first time.
“Isn’t it?” you shot back, your eyes stinging with unshed tears. “You made me believe we had something worth holding onto, and now you’re throwing it away because you think love makes you weak?”
Zoro’s fists tightened at his sides, his expression conflicted. “I’m not throwing it away,” he said, his voice quieter now. “I just... I need time. I need to be sure that when I’m with you, I can give you everything you deserve. And right now, I can’t do that.”
Your chest ached at his words, but the anger was still there, a protective shield against the heartbreak threatening to consume you. “You don’t get to decide what I deserve, Zoro. You don’t get to make this decision for both of us.”
He looked away, his silence cutting deeper than any words could.
The pain was overwhelming, but you refused to let him see you break. “Fine,” you said, your voice trembling but firm. “If that’s what you want, I won’t stand in your way. But don’t expect me to wait around again.”
Zoro’s eye snapped back to yours, a flicker of regret crossing his face. “Y/n—”
“Good luck, Zoro,” you said, cutting him off. Without waiting for a response, you turned and walked away, your vision blurring with tears you refused to shed.
Behind you, Zoro stood frozen, his hands clenched into fists. He had always prided himself on his strength, but in that moment, he felt the weight of a different kind of loss—a wound that no amount of training could heal.

Fake Out

Roronoa Zoro x f!strawhat!reader, one-shot, established relationship, fluff, hurt/comfort
Why did they all have to split up one day? They just got back together, now everyone is thinking of leaving again. Why couldn't Zoro just have everyone under one roof where he could keep an eye on and protect all of them?
Zoro isn't prepared to talk about your future.
----------------------
fic warnings: very small pre-time skip Sabaody spoilers, small time skip spoilers, background Franky/Robin and Usopp/Kaya (if you don't like idc), takes place at the end of fishman island
With a big, sloppy kiss to his cheek, you stumbled away from Zoro and back to Robin and Nami, drunk enough to not have any shame in front of your friends. Before you could get too far though, he playfully swatted your ass, silently thanking you for bringing him another bottle of sake to enjoy.
“Do ya have to do that in front of us?” Usopp murmured, side eyeing the resident swordsman of their crew.
Zoro popped the top of the bottle off and took a big swig. After several seconds of chugging, he finally released with an exuberant gasp, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. “Yup.”
Usopp rolled his eyes while Franky chuckled. “C’mon buddy, they're young and in love, let the man live!”
Usopp shook his head while Franky laughed and patted him on the shoulder. Zoro settled in next to Franky, passing the bottle to him as he got comfortable leaning back on the wall behind the bench the three of them were sharing.
“It’s not like we haven’t all heard you reading your letters from Kaya out loud in the workshop,” Zoro pointed out, resting his arms behind his head.
Usopp squealed. “T-Those are personal!”
“Maybe don’t be so loud then, sugar lips.”
Franky and Zoro laughed while Usopp stuttered, failing to deny the pet name Kaya used for him. Instead, he swiped the sake bottle from Franky, feeling too sober and exposed.
In front of them, the party the people of Fishman Island threw for them raged on, drinks and food flowing freely while people enjoyed the entertainment. Luffy sat with Jinbe and Shirahoshi, laughing as Jinbe recounted stories of his childhood. Robin and Nami sipped drinks and cheered you on as Prince Fuakboshi twirled you around in a respectful dance, while Chopper tried to stop Brook and Sanji from making utter fools of themselves in front of the mermaids.
The party was a great joint celebration: the people of Fishman Island had been saved, and the Strawhats were reunited after a long two years apart. Zoro couldn’t be happier, after all, he had good booze, great friends, and his beautiful partner all surrounding him. While he had grown during his two years with Mihawk, nothing could compare to the serenity of this moment.
Franky smiled to himself as he watched Robin take a bite of an exotic fruit offered to her by one of the mermaids. His eyes lingered on her smile and the way her head tilted as she studied the taste.
“Good times, huh bros?”
Usopp hummed in agreement and Zoro nodded.
“You know,” Franky took back the bottle from Usopp and took a drink, “I was thinking about stuff while we were all apart.”
“Like what?” Usopp questioned.
“Just about what we’ll do when this is all over.”
“You mean the party?”
“No, no, I mean our days at sea. Once the Sunny has sailed all the way through the New World and Luffy’s done the whole king-of-the-pirates thing, I’ve got plans.”
Zoro’s good eye slid over in Franky’s direction, curiosity piqued. “Which are?”
Franky took another big swig. Whatever it must have been, made him nervous. Outside his regular cola intake, Franky didn’t drink much.
“I’m taking Robin back to her home island.”
Usopp gasped. “Ohara? But it was destroyed when she was a child!”
Franky smiled softly, eyes gleaming as he watched you pass off Prince Fukaboshi to Robin. “I know, but I’m going to rebuild it for her. She’s talked about the library that used to be there and I can tell she misses it. Plus, she’ll need somewhere to store all her research on the poneglyphs once we find the One Piece.”
Usopp and Zoro took in the heavy weight of Franky’s pledge. It was known how much he cared for their resident archaeologist, his declarations of love for her not missed by any of the crew, nor her returned affections. Yet they were still so surprised that the promise of rebuilding her home was so resolute, like Franky knew that if Robin asked for the moon, he could deliver it. The resolve in his voice astounded his two crewmates listening in.
“I see…” Usopp replied, resting a finger on his chin in thought. “Well, I’m going back home to the East Blue to tell Kaya all about our adventures! I’ll show her the man I’ve become.”
“Yow! How super!” Franky laughed. The two innovators shared a laugh, throwing their arms around each other and smiling.
“What about you, bro?” Franky held the bottle of sake out to Zoro. “Got any plans for you and Y/N?”
For once in his life, Zoro hesitated as someone handed him a bottle of booze. In the green glass of the bottle, he could see your face from across the banquet hall. A distorted, sparkling reflection as you giggled at Nami’s drunkenness, even if you weren’t far behind her.
Got any plans for you and Y/N?
Plans? What plans? The only plan he had for the future was to find another bottle of sake when this one finished, then maybe steal a kiss from you before he turned in for the night. Who would waste time daydreaming about the future when he had the present, especially when everything was a toss up. As far as he was concerned, the only surefire event to happen in his future would be him finally defeating Mihawk in battle. Nothing else could happen until that did.
He took the bottle from Franky, eyebrows deeply furrowed. “...Nah.”
Franky and Usopp shared a questioning look. Surely the two of you had some sort of idea of what you wanted your lives to look like after your pirate days ended.
A sea of giggling erupted as you and Robin approached, the two of you sharing a secret behind your hands. As you neared, you shushed each other, making some sort of silent vow to keep the boys out of the loop.
“Oh, Usopp,” you giggled. “Brook has your slingshot.”
The sniper suddenly went stiff before hurriedly patting all his pockets. Yep, the slingshot was gone, and a distinct yohohoho could be heard across the hall.
“He’s lucky he’s already dead…” Usopp stood up quickly and ran off.
Robin and you shared another smile, before the two of you turned towards Franky and Zoro.
“Franky.”
Franky perked up. “Yes?”
One of Robin’s hands sprouted from the wall and playfully flicked Franky on the nose. “Come dance.”
Franky scrambled to his feet. “Yes ma’am!”
The two rushed back out to the hall, hands already grabbing each other as they made their way to the dance floor. When they faded from sight, you turned back to Zoro, whose good eye was already peeled and staring at you.
“What’s with the look?” he smirked.
You feigned ignorance. “What look?”
“That look. Like you’ve got some wicked plan.”
You grinned and stalked toward him, letting him pull you into his lap sideways. “I’ve got no idea what you mean.”
He scoffed and rolled his eyes yet still smiled as you settled into place. You leaned in and kissed him, Zoro returning the kiss slowly.
“Mm,” you sighed when you released, eyes sparkling up in adoration at Zoro. “I love it here.”
“Yeah?” His hand came down and rested on your thigh, holding you close.
You turned toward the vastness of the ocean to Zoro’s right. In the night, the corals and seaweed ebbed softly, basking in the moonlight. Schools of fish swam by, carefully navigating their way through. You’d only been on the island for a day, but the place had captivated you.
“Yes. I mean, the food, the people, even with the coup today, I still think this place is wonderful.” Zoro couldn’t help but notice the way your eyes widened as you spoke. “I’d love to learn more about their queen. Jinbe told me about her mission to move the island to the surface, but I can’t help but wish I could stay here. It’s just so… Beautiful in its isolation. No World Government meddling here.”
Zoro nodded along. It was a vastly different place down here, and he could respect the different way of life from that of the surface.
“I don’t know,” you sighed. “It’s just the kind of place–”
“You could imagine yourself living in?”
You blushed as Zoro took the words out of your mouth. “Well… Maybe.”
Suddenly, Zoro was frowning. It dawned on him then that the two of you had never had a discussion about your future. Did you see a future with him? Would you want him to live here on Fishman Island with you? His thoughts began spiraling.
Would he feel content? Honest to god, he never saw himself having a full time residence outside of his village back in the East Blue or on the Sunny. Could the world’s greatest swordsman be fine with spending his days 10,000 meters below the surface?
Would you even feel happy with him? If your goal was to rebuild the world government one day and turn it into an organization that actually took care of its people, surely you’d settle down in some place like Mariejois and spend your days with people like Jinbe, focusing on leading the world into a better age. You wouldn’t want to be stuck with a meathead like Zoro, tied down with domestic responsibilities when you really just wanted to help people.
Even if the two of you did choose to settle down here for the rest of your lives, where did the rest of the Strawhats fit into that equation? Would Luffy visit you? Would Zoro ever get to share a beer with Usopp again? Feel the harsh back of Nami’s hand after he said something stupid? Would he have to long for Sanji’s cooking, as much as he hated to admit it?
Why did they all have to split up one day? They just got back together, now everyone is thinking of leaving again. Why couldn’t Zoro just have everyone under one roof where he could keep an eye on and protect all of them?
“Hey, what’s wrong?”
Your hand on his cheek and soft voice snapped Zoro out of his downward spiral. “Nothin’.”
You frowned at him, lifting your eyebrows up in your characteristic bullshit face. “You sure?”
He adjusted you on his lap, holding you closer, more possessively. “Yep.”
You watched as Zoro turned away and bit his lip in worry. Zoro never bit his lip in worry. What was going through that moss head of his? “You know… We’re all alone out here with a bottle of sake,” you drawled, fingers creeping up the front of his shirt.
“Mhmm.” He still didn’t look your way.
“Luffy’s only been eating for about three hours, so we’ve still got plenty of party time left.” You left a chaste, yet yearning kiss on Zoro’s jaw. “The Sunny is empty right now… Why don’t we take the booze and head back to the ship?”
He didn’t respond.
“Okay.” You got up suddenly from his lap. “You’re acting weird. What’s wrong?”
Zoro stared at you with a deep frown on his face, his good eye filled with worry, anger, and most of all, hopelessness.
“Zo.” Much quieter, you kneeled in front of him and took his hands. “What’s wrong?”
He tensed up, staring down at you for a second before ripping his hands from yours and cradling his head. “Don’t marry Jinbe!”
You were stunned into silence. “What?”
“Listen,” Zoro began talking with his hands. “I get he’s smarter than me and a freaking diplomat, but you can’t marry him!”
You let out a dry laugh. “What are you talking about?”
Zoro stood up and turned, stomping towards the balcony overlooking the ocean.
“Zoro!” You followed after him, stopping just one step behind him, giving him his space. “Are… Are you jealous of Jinbe?”
“No!” he barked over his shoulder. “Maybe! I don’t know!”
He kept himself facing away from you, not bothering to look back as he responded. With a gentle hand, you carefully touched his back, testing the water. When he didn’t shrug you off, you slowly slid it around until your arms encircled his back.
“Why are you jealous of Jinbe? I’m not going to marry him. I just met him today.”
“I’m not jealous,” he huffed, still staring out at the sea. “I just…”
“Just..?”
He took a deep breath, gathering the courage to be vulnerable. “I just… Don’t want you to leave. Or anyone. I want us all to stay together.”
“Zo…”
“I can keep care of everyone when we’re all together. I don’t like all this separation bullshit.” You listened to him talk, giving him the space to vent all his frustrations. “We’re a crew. We’re not meant to be apart.”
You listened carefully, thinking of the implication behind his words. “You’re still thinking of Sabaody, aren’t you?”
His body stiffened, but he didn’t deny the accusation.
You let go of him and put your hands on his shoulders. “Look at me.”
He turned slowly, barely meeting your gaze in the darkness. When your hands rested on his chest, he grabbed your waist out of reflex.
“Our crew isn’t going anywhere,” you reassured him. “Not for a long time.”
He huffed. “Well everyone seems intent on leaving piracy behind one day.”
You looked to your left and through the doors of the banquet hall where all of your crewmates still entertained themselves. The dishes next to Luffy were rising, Jinbe and Chopper marveling at the sight. Nami was surrounded by several of the king’s guards, schooling them in a game of poker. Robin and Franky languidly danced together, Franky doing his best to not mess up the moves. Sanji, Brook, and Usopp gathered around a piano, joined by the star singer, and sang a song together.
“I get it. I don’t want to be apart from them either.” You turned back to him and dug a finger into his chest. “I don’t want to be apart from you.”
Zoro’s shoulders slouched, and he leaned down to rest his forehead on yours. “But you’re the toughest nail to pin down of them all,” he whispered.
You laughed. “Why me?”
He leaned back and looked down into your eyes, his grip on your waist tightening. “Are you kidding me? You’re the one with all these crazy plans and opportunities. Everywhere we go, in every country we save, the leaders want you to come be their ambassador, or want to hand you their throne. I’m starting to think I’m going to have to chain you to the mast so you don’t run off with them.”
Zoro and you shared a soft chuckle, though there was a sadness in his eyes. “I’m just starting to realize how big your plans are.”
“And you want to know if you’re part of them, don’t you?”
He didn’t respond. For once in his life, Roronoa Zoro didn’t want to hear what you had to say, too scared his worst beliefs would be confirmed.
“Yeah…”
You took his jaw in hand and turned his face toward the sea. “Do you see that out there, Zo? See how big the sea is?”
He studied the expanse in front of him. The ocean extended far beyond his eyesight, seeming as if it would never end. He nodded in understanding, though he was confused by why you chose now to bring it up.
“No matter how far that sea goes, no matter where the Sunny travels, no matter where I go, I imagine you there, standing next to me.”
He slowly turned his head back to you. “You do?”
You nodded your head resolutely, reminding him of the determination he saw in Franky’s eyes not that long ago. Would you give him the moon if he asked?
“Rain or shine, in sickness or in health. Nothing matters if I don’t have you with me.”
He studied the look on your face. Zoro was so used to seeing your soft, adoring side that he sometimes forgot what a fierce, determined tactician you could be. Whenever the Straw Hats visited countries down on their luck, you always managed to take the monarchs by their reins and show them the path forward, a job that sometimes required you to be stern. Now, you had the same look on your face as you demolished his worries.
But your fierce look of determination broke, and a small, gentle smile broke out on your face. A look you reserved exclusively for Zoro during tender moments like these. “That is, if you’ll have me.”
In one fell swoop he pulled you close and pressed his lips to yours, curling his entire body around you like he was set on keeping you this way forever. Your arms circled his neck, holding his face closer to yours as your lips moved against each other. Even when your lungs began to burn, you still kept him close, not wanting to part again.
Zoro parted first, staring down at you. “Only an idiot would pass up a chance like that.”
You leaned into the hand cupping your face, smiling at him widely. For the first time since your crew reunited in Sabaody, you could see the tension leave his body.
“Hey! Will you two get a room?” Nami yelled from the open doorway. She sat down inelegantly, roughly landing on her bottom. Behind her, Usopp and Chopper carried a love-drunk Sanji out the doors and towards the stairs.
You waved her off, then turned back to Zoro, giving him another peck on the lips. “Let’s go spend some time with our crew.” You broke from your embrace, leading him towards the growing group.
Zoro threw an arm around your shoulders and secured you to his side, smiling down at you when you glanced up at him Before you got close though, he leaned down and whispered in your ear, “in sickness or in health, huh? Guess that means we’re married now.”
You elbowed him in the ribs. “Nuh uh, you’re not getting out of proposing to me for real, Roronoa. You wanna be forever? You better put in the work then.”Zoro crumpled from the pain of your hit. “Good god, woman…”
