He shrugs. Everyone dies sometime. On the other hand, knowing that doesn’t make it easier to go through. “I’m not going to die. I was being a smartass. I have to take care of my sisters, so it’s not really an option.” Sort of. His sisters are old enough to take care of themselves, but he checks in on them. He tries to be there. He hopes they’d tell him if they had problems they couldn’t handle.
Ichigo snorts too and tosses Shiro a glance. “Maybe someday I’ll write a book, when I’m too old to run around doing people’s dirty work for them.” If he makes it that long. But he smirks. “You need to help people understand you now. Forget in three hundred years.” Shiro is so different from everyone else Ichigo knows. But he’s also a lot like Ichigo in just enough ways Ichigo can’t help but be drawn to him. Ichigo shakes his head, amused.
He chuckles when Shiro calls him a shit, but it’s more air than sound. “Yeah.” He can agree with that. “It’s good for you. You don’t need a bunch of guys saying yes all the time.”
“That’s not a fair question. There are too many answers. No, I don’t think you should go, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want you there. I want to know you’re safe.” He’s used to working with people. He doesn’t do every job alone and he’s flexible. But he absolutely was told to do this job discreetly. Taking Shiro isn’t discreet. Ichigo wouldn’t even worry about meeting his buyer’s expectations if doing this job for his dad’s sake wasn’t such a priority. “Since you’re asking what I think, I think you should find a safe house to lay low and run things from there until you find enough loyal guys to watch your back.” He sighs. “And before you say it, I know you won’t trust them. But you can pay them enough to make it worth their while to keep you alive.” He frowns. “Because I’m not trying to mess up what you have going on. He might be a plant or be in with everyone else trying to kill you, but he might not.” And Ichigo is going to be gone sooner or later. It’d be nice to know Shiro had someone that cared— assuming Shiro’s cop isn’t into backstabbing. Even if this asshole is fine with Shiro using whatever he’s using. Which kind of pisses Ichigo off. “What does he think about all your habits?”
It’s not until he’s getting in the car that he realizes how tame it is. He glances around, taking in the leather and feeling like maybe Shiro picked someone else’s car. “So… this is mild.”
He's expecting Ichigo to turn this into a You're Not Going To Die conversation, but instead it circles into maybe Ichigo dying instead. It drops a stone into his guts. Maybe he shouldn't be allowing Ichigo to get himself involved. Maybe he should be trying harder to push Ichigo away, so he stays out of it, out of harm. On the other side of things; Ichigo's very profession puts him in danger and if Shiro's not selfishly taking up his time now he might not get to later if Ichigo gets himself killed. "You better not." He doesn't even know what he'd do, but it wouldn't be good.
He snorts at the mild offense Ichigo takes at his description of Ichigo's day job. "No, you're right, that is pretty cool. You gonna write a book, then? So in three hundred years some stranger you can't comprehend right now can perceive you? Maybe I need to write a book." He's not going to write a book. That's way too much sitting still for his brain to tolerate. His brows go up a little bit. "Yes I have been and I have no regrets and no intentions of stopping now."
The fact Ichigo wants to go shopping with him at all is a little surprising, but not because he seriously thinks Ichigo judges his fashion sense. Just more the spending time together thing. It's been startling easy to fall into a comfortable companionship again. And sure, they're side stepping and ignoring some really big things, but the company is still easy. "I knew that. You're just being a shit." He's not great at tolerating that.
His attention corners when he feels like Ichigo's looking at him. He shrugs a noncommittal shoulder. "I get it. This isn't the best place to be right now anyway." It's too hard to defend, too hard to properly monitor and barricade. He's not dumb. "Do you actually want me going on that job?" He made a bit of a fuss about it, but he doesn't need invited out of pity. He can entertain himself. He's just scared that if they part now, it'll be the last time they see each other. He shakes his head. "No, I wouldn't. Why do you seem like you're trying to push for that? I would'a said that's what I wanted if that's what I wanted. I have no trouble speakin' my mind."
For a second, while he watches Ichigo look over his car, he wonders what they'll do if it's rigged. Call in Ichigo's team, he supposes. But Ichigo slides out from under the SUV and gives him the go ahead. He turns to a lockbox on the wall and punches in a code, then pulls the keys off a hook and closes the box again. He uses the remove to unlock it as he walks toward the vehicle.

Blind in Love
Dedicated to @mangostarjam, you convinced me to finish the WIP since you asked about it lmao so thanks!
It had been awhile since you’d had good sex and even longer since you’d had a good date.
Which was why, when your friend yammered to you -on a daily basis- about the new friend she’d made and how he was your perfect match, you allowed her to set up a blind date between the two of you even though you were still recovering from the first serious relationship you’d ever had ending. But you’d spent more than enough time mourning the past and you were ready to get back out there. If your date ended up being a serial killer, so be it; at least you’d die knowing you tried to have some semblance of a love life again.
At first, you almost didn’t get the date with him at all.
Your friend would tell you how kind the man was, how attentive the man was, how loyal the man was, and you were already sold from her first description. But she kept selling him to you anyway. The days would go by and she’d tell you he liked the same music you did. She’d tell you he was raised in the same area that you grew up in. She’d tell you that he liked the same foods you did. She’d tell you that he was a night owl like you. She’d tell you he liked the same TV shows. She’d tell you he had the same hobbies. She’d tell you he’d vacationed to the same places you had. She’d tell you so many details about him that it felt like you were going on a date with yourself. So you knew you had to meet this guy, you just had to.
And then one day, she told you it was most likely not going to happen.
How? How could the most perfect sounding man in the entire world not even want to meet you? Had she told him what she’d told you? Did he know you were practically soulmates? How were you supposed to hear about him everyday, to know all these things about him like he was suddenly your closest friend, only to never meet him, only to be rejected by him before he ever crossed paths with you?
This couldn’t be how things ended.
But your friend was persistent. Thank god she was persistent. As much as she had promoted him to you, she doubly promoted you to him, and soon enough, she was giving you the good news that he had eventually agreed to go out on a date with you. He had even gone so far as to pick the time and the venue, so she had high expectations for the night.
You had high expectations for the night.
You tried not to. You didn’t imagine there was anyone for you who could ever be as good as your first love, but if there wasn’t, it wouldn’t be for a lack of you trying to find them. You owed it to yourself, to your friend, to him, to give this date a good try. So even though you tried not to get all worked up over one simple date, you got excited anyway. You dressed up to the nines.
When you showed up to the address that you’d been instructed to meet him at, you were shocked to discover you’d been here before, years ago. It was a cherry blossom garden. A cherry blossom garden that was usually extremely busy and yet somehow it was now completely deserted. And… lit up? You didn’t remember there being so many lanterns everywhere the last time you’d come here.
Following the trails of lanterns, you found a man in a suit waiting for you at the end. He was down on one knee. Holding a ring box.
“I love you. I love you so, so much. Please, please marry me.”
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
“No.”
“But why?”
“I’ve told you before and I’ll tell you again, I’m not going on a blind date. I’m not going on any date. Never again.” Hoshina waved his persistent friend away, thinking his resolve might end any further arguments. It only strengthened her resolve.
She followed him down the long expanse of hallway, and boy, did he realize just how long it was as she prattled on and on. “But did I tell you she also grew up in the same neighborhood as you?”
He groaned. “Yes. Yes, you did. Doesn’t change a thing.”
“But did I tell you she hikes? You could go hiking together.”
“I don’t want to go hiking with anyone.”
“But did I tell you she cooks, and get this, she cooks your favorite foods. It’s honestly crazy how your favorite foods are like somehow what she specializes in. That’s gotta be some sign, right?”
He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Really, I appreciate you trying, but nothing you say is going to make me change my mind about this.”
“Okay, okay, one more thing. You remember that, like, weird vintage medallion thing you have on your nightstand?”
He froze in his tracks. “...What about it?”
“You remember how you told me that they only ever made two of those medallions and you won it at some event? Get this- she has the other half of the set. She also won it at the same event. If that’s not fate, I don’t know what is.”
He quickly turned around and started making his way back to his room.
She watched him curiously, keeping pace with him as his pace increased. He was almost like a man on a mission the way he sped down the hall. She was sure he’d burn tracks into the floor with the way he was walking.
“Can she see me tomorrow night?” He asked finally.
Her brows furrowed in confusion, wondering what on earth could’ve made him change his mind, and so quickly at that. But after all this begging and pleading with him to reconsider the date, she wouldn’t dare question his sudden change in heart.
“Yeah, of course she can. She’s been waiting for you to say yes forever. I’ll text her. Do you guys wanna meet up at that restaur-”
“I’ll pick the place. I know the perfect spot.”
She blinked a couple times. What was going on with Hoshina today? Not only was he actually agreeing to go on this blind date when he’d been vehemently rejecting it these past few weeks, but now he was taking the initiative to plan the date himself? Something had to be going on. But she was too afraid to ask what, too afraid it would weaken his nerve. So she simply nodded and said, “Alright, good luck. I’ll let her know when you’re ready.” Then she vanished down the hallway, too stunned to speak any further.
When he reached his room, Hoshina tossed out half his closet trying to figure out what to wear. What was one supposed to wear to propose to the love of his life that he hadn’t seen in years? What was one supposed to say?
He quickly called up the managers of the cherry blossom garden that he’d taken you to on your first date together and he bought out the entire place for tomorrow night. He didn’t want anyone walking in and ruining the only chance he might have with you.
He took out the ring box he’d been holding onto these last several years and set it out on his nightstand, right beside the medallion that he’d won with you. Then he fell asleep dreaming about your smile.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
“I love you. I love you so, so much. Please, please marry me.”
Suddenly everything made sense.
Of course he liked the same shows you did. You always made him watch it with you. Of course he was a night owl, you stayed up late together watching those shows. Of course he liked the same hobbies, the same food, the same music, you lived together, it was hard not to pick up the same routines, to pick up the same interests. And all those places your friend had told you he’d visited that you’d also visited? You’d gone on vacation together.
You’d done everything together.
Until you didn’t. Until you broke up.
But now here he was before you, and without even wasting a second to say hi it’s me again, he was already down on one knee proposing with a ring you told him you liked once in passing.
At first you wondered why he was here, after so many weeks of declining to proceed with this date. Had he known it was you all along? Was that why he’d said no? But then why was he here? And with a ring no less? What was going on? What made him change his mind?
But suddenly you didn’t care. You didn’t care at all. You didn’t care about the how or the why or the what. You just cared about him. You just cared that the man that you loved, that the only man that you’d ever loved, that the only man you ever wanted to love, was kneeling before you, saying he loved you, saying he still loved you, saying he’d always loved you and always would love you. And he wanted to marry you.
“Yes.”

silent hill
the trees stretched up above the horizon, making this town feel all the more suffocating, paired with the thick fog as dazai wandered the forest. the trail felt much longer than he remembered, though he hadn’t been in here in the last three years, so he couldn’t say much, even as he approached a clearing to a well that he was sure wasn’t there before.
a faint red light emits from the bottom of the well, a pretty shade of crimson dancing across the underside of the roof, like the reflection of water. curious, he leaned in to see inside, the red light casting shadows across his face as he gazed downward.
a sudden pain shot through his head and he grimaced, taking a few steps back in hopes that putting space between him and that light would help. “god, it’s like someone’s groping around my skull.” he rubbed his temple, the pain slowly beginning to subside a few seconds later.
he shook his head, eyeing the well one last time before following the trail in the opposite direction. he couldn’t shake the feeling of unease that washed over him with every step he took, like if he ventured too far, he’d find something he didn’t want to see.
but he couldn’t let that hold him back. he was determined to find you, and he’d do just about anything to do it.
he paused, looking up at the tall gates leading into a cemetery. could this be the way? he didn’t know.
dazai didn’t know a lot of things since you died. life felt empty, hopeless as he trudged about, going through his job only to come back home to an empty house.
he missed your hugs, those sweet little kisses you’d give him before he went to work and right when he came home. those little visits when he would forget his lunch even though he told you he wasn’t hungry, you’d always come just in case. how you asked what he wanted to eat every day despite him telling you that you didn’t have to cook, that just you being with him was enough.
he missed you.
pushing open the gates, he glanced around aimlessly until his eyes fell upon a figure hunched over before a gravestone, wiping away at the dust in a futile attempt to read its owner's name.
he tentatively reached out a hand, grasping their shoulder. “excuse me. . .”
he was greeted by a sharp gasp, and the stranger quickly stood up, stepping back a few paces. it was a boy with choppy white hair and large, heterochromatic eyes, his face pale and his eyes sunken, like he hadn't slept in a few days. “i’m sorry, i- i was just. . .” he raised his hands swiftly, regaining his composure as he took a deep breath.
“hey, it’s okay,” dazai interjected, “i didn’t mean to scare you.” he took a step back, giving the boy his space. “i’m kind of lost.”
the boy closed the distance dazai just put between them, his brows furrowing. “lost?”
“yeah, i’m looking for silent hill? is this the right way?”
he gave him a once over, nodding. “um, yeah.” holding a hand up, he pointed off somewhere in the distance. “it’s hard to see with this fog, but there’s only one road. you can’t miss it.”
“thanks.” dazai hummed, turning on his heel to leave.
“but. . .” the boy hesitated, taking an unsure step forward, prompting dazai to turn around. “i think you should stay away. this, uh. . . this town,” he glanced away nervously, as if sensing the other’s confusion. “there’s something wrong with it. and it’s not just the fog either.”
“is it dangerous?”
he fiddled with the ends of his gloves. “maybe. . . it’s kind of hard to explain, but. . .”
dazai waved him off. “i’ll be careful.”
“i’m not lying!” the boy insisted, raising his voice slightly.
“no, i believe you. it’s just. . .” he paused, thinking about how to phrase it right. “i guess i don’t really care if it’s dangerous, or not. i’m going either way.”
“but. . . why?”
“i’m looking for-” he hesitated, his eyes falling to the ground for just a moment. “. . .someone. someone very important to me.”
the stranger’s eyes widened a little. “me too. i’m looking for the headmaster. i mean, my father.” he corrected himself quickly. “it’s been so long since i’ve seen him. i thought the other kids were here, but i can’t find them either.” he looked around, eyes taking in all the gravestones, wondering if they were the ones six feet deep, but he shook his head and turned back over to dazai. “i’m sorry. . . it’s not your problem.”
“no, i. . .” he smiled. “i hope you find them.”
“yeah, you too.” the boy returned the smile, gradually shifting his focus back to the gravestones.
the fog seemed to grow thicker as he approached the town, the trees growing sparse as he followed the road. silent hill was just how he remembered. . . almost.
cafes and shops at every corner - small businesses that you’d never recognize the names of unless you live there - the many houses lined up along the road, and those few streets that if not for the fog, you’d see the other end of town. but something was amiss, something that any one person would recognize almost immediately.
it was dead silent.
though in its name, silent hill was never usually this. . . silent. the population was around 2,000 - people usually walked the streets, and few cars would pass by every now and then. there’d be greetings, gossip - in a small town like this, everyone knows everyone. but there wasn’t a single soul wandering about.
cars littered the streets, both in the middle and parked along the sidewalk, some windows broken and smashed in, tires deflated and paint rusted. it was like everyone just went up and left, leaving the town in complete disarray.
dazai clutched the map in his hand, glancing from side to side as he took in the mess. was this really silent hill?
it sure as hell didn’t feel like it. it’s as if this place died with you. like the moment you breathed your last breath of air, the town did too, and you both fell together.
he shook his head, trying to convince himself of happier thoughts. you were here. you had to be. even if this town had died, that doesn’t mean it took you with it. he’d make sure of it.
who else could’ve written that letter?

The Best for the Both of Them
This will be my first foray into writing fanfiction in a long long time so please be kind. Constructive Criticism is always welcome. Hate Mail is not. I also haven't used Tumblr in awhile so if anyone has any suggestions on how I can make my posts better or easier for you all to read, please let me know.

___________________________________________________________
“I’ll see you around Buck”, Tommy stood for a second before he walked to the door and out of Evan’s loft. His mind was reeling from what he just did. Evan had been the best thing to ever happen to him, and he had just ended it. Did he do the right thing? He kept walking eventually coming to his truck. He got in and looked up at the windows to Evan’s loft. He saw his now ex-boyfriend standing there looking out at him.
“This is the best thing for both of us,” he told himself as he started the truck up and drove off towards his house, “It was never meant to last anyways. I’m his first not his last” he just kept telling himself that as a means of justifying it to himself. He felt tears start to well up in his eyes as he drove towards his house. He didn’t want to do that. Evan was the sweetest and most caring person he had ever known. But he couldn’t handle the heartbreak if he decided that Tommy wasn’t enough for him. Yes that was an incredibly Biphobic mentality to have, and he knew it, but your brain is never logical when it comes to your emotions and your potential for heartbreak.
He pulled into his driveway and turned off his truck. Sitting in his truck he let the tears start to roll down his cheeks. Sobs racked his body as he just let out all the sadness that he was feeling over what he had done. He desperately wanted to take out his phone and call Evan and say he was sorry. Say he didn’t mean it. Beg him for forgiveness. But he knew he couldn’t do that. No this was how it had to be.
After about 10 minutes of the ugliest crying, he had ever done in his life, he composed himself, got out of his truck and head inside his house. It was going to be a long night, and he knew it. This was the best for the both of them.
***
Tommy took a couple days off work so he could just get all his crying out. His work best friend, Jessica, had come by a couple times during that time to check in on him and see how he was doing. She reported to him that he always looked like shit and that he needed to pull himself together. She really didn’t get it though did she. She had been with her husband for as long as he knew her.
After the third day, Tommy again pulled himself together and compartmentalize all his emotions like he had grown accustomed to all those many years ago. Looking around his house he found so many things that reminded him of Evan. Some of his clothes that he had left behind after a night over, a toothbrush, some different knickknacks that he bought for Tommy to keep in his apartment to remind him. Sighing, Tommy picked up a box and started to place all of Evan’s items into it. He kept the pictures. And a hoodie. He may have broken up with Evan, but he didn’t want to forget about him completely. He was a big part of his life for the past 6 months. Everything else went into this box.
He spent the better part of a day trying to decide the best way to get these items back to Evan. He didn’t feel ready to see Evan again so going to the loft to drop them off was probably not in the cards. Maybe Eddie or Chim could get them to him. Though not sure if that was going to be easy either. They were both closer to Evan than they were to him. Wouldn’t hurt to try anyways.
Tommy took out his phone and shot a quick text message off to Eddie. He didn’t expect anything back right away, but little did he know, “You fucked up bud” was all he got back at first.
“Don’t you think I thought this through,” he responded back.
“Doesn’t mean you didn’t fuck up” Eddie wrote back.
“I have a bunch of Evan’s stuff that he left at my place that needs to get back to him,” Tommy wrote quickly, “And I don’t think either of us wants to see each other right now.”
“I spent the past 3 days with a very drunk Evan pining over you hard,” Eddie replied, “You have no idea how badly this is affecting him.”
“He doesn’t know how this is affecting me either,” Tommy sent back, “Can I leave his stuff with you, and you give it to him?”
“Yeah yeah yeah,” Eddie wrote back, “But I think the two of you need to talk this out. Sometime before my liver gives out.”
Tommy sighed and took the box to his Truck, meaning to head towards Eddie’s house. At least Eddie was still talking to him, which was a good sign. He hadn’t fucked things up with the entire 118 at least. He drove about an hour to get to Eddie’s house. Seeing Evan’s Jeep parked out front, Tommy drove right past the front of Eddie’s house and parked a ways up the street so that he wouldn’t be noticed. God, he needed to mature up, but he really didn’t want to see Evan right now. He had just gotten himself to stop crying and he knew that if he saw him it would start the tears up again.
Tommy slowly walked up towards Eddie’s house, navigating like some weird stalker up the sidewalk and deposited the box outside the door to Eddie’s house. He snapped a quick picture of the box and Eddie’s door and hurried down the walkway, sending a picture of the box to Eddie with a quick message of “I can’t see him yet. The box is outside your door.”
Tommy drove back to his place, hyperventilating a little bit over what could have happened. He needed to stay strong. This was the best for the both of them.
***
It had been a month since he ended things with Evan. Work kept him busy so that was beneficial for him. He could throw himself into work and forget everything. He did tend to avoid using the mouth static because it reminded him of Evan. His captain was probably very appreciative of that.
Tommy had taken to using Tinder to see if he could get someone to date again. He did miss the companionship that Evan gave. Someone to hold at night. Problem was that he was trying to pick a fish from the sea that was Gay LA. The amount of people that just wanted to have sex with him far outweighed the people looking for a nice date.
He did find the rare gentlemen not looking for a quick fuck which was nice. Tommy wasn’t ready to dip his toes back into THAT market just yet. Besides if he wanted that he would have been on Grindr, not Tinder. Men were just horndogs no matter where they were.
Tommy swiped right on a handsome man that he saw and got the “Match” signal, so he started messaging this person. He was 5’6, fit, brown hair, blue eyes, worked as a nurse at one of the local hospitals. Tommy decided to go on a date with this guy. Have a nice dinner and a movie. That was his typical first date. Had it been that before Evan and will continue to be that after. He just needed to figure out a restaurant.
The night of the date came, and Tommy met this new guy at the restaurant. His name was Bryant, and he was closer to Tommy’s age than Evan had been. He wouldn’t admit it in person, but he felt a little bad when he and Evan were together since there was such a large age gap.
Bryant had chosen a nice Vietnamese restaurant to meet up at, and Tommy would be picking the movie. They ordered their dishes after sitting and waited. Tommy looked around the room a bit, taking in his surroundings. It was a nice place, he thought, and then a thought he didn’t want to have came up ‘Evan would really like this. He likes to try all kinds of new food.’
He had to stop himself. He was drifting off into thinking of Evan and that wouldn’t have ended well. Bryant was talking and Tommy hadn’t heard a thing he said in his revelry. God he was the worst person to go on a date with right now. His thoughts constantly running back to Evan like some kind of sick masochist. No, he wouldn’t let that man keep such a vice grip on his heart. This was the best of the both of them.
***
It had been 6 months since he had broken up with Evan. He had managed to match with about 10 very nice gentlemen in that time, and failed to go on a second date with about 6 of them. Why was he so bad at this? It was never this bad with Evan. Not even remotely. They always got along and always had things to talk about.
Sitting down at the coffee shop, a handsome Latin man sitting across from him, Tommy sipped at his drink while half listening to the man talking about his life. He was interested, really he was. He just couldn’t make his mind focus. It kept going back to thoughts of Evan.
The bell above the door rang as someone came in again. They were sitting near to the door, so Tommy had a bird’s eye view of the people walking in. And what he saw made his heart clench in his chest. Walking in through that doorway was Evan. He was there with a very beautiful blonde woman. God, he looked amazing still. Hopefully he didn’t see Tommy.
Quickly looking away, Tommy hoped against all hope that Evan didn’t notice him. He didn’t want to create a scene or end things badly on this date. His date seemed to notice as he asked what was going on?
“Ex-boyfriend just walked in,” Tommy replied. His breathing had slightly deepened after Evan walked into the shop, so he suggested that they take their drinks and go for a walk.
He couldn’t be in the same room with Evan. It was too hard to see him. He did look happy though. Walking out of the coffee shop, his date heading out before him, he glanced back hoping, while also not hoping, to catch a glimpse of Evan again. Looking right at him, his blue eyes trying to hide a sadness that he could match was Evan. God how he missed that man. He turned back around and left the coffee shop, not wanting to feel the pain that his heart was currently feeling. This was the best for the both of them.
***
It had been three days since Tommy saw Evan at the coffee shop. Things had fizzled out again with the latest in a long line of dates he had gone on. Honestly, it was getting a little depressing for him. But he kept on trying. Maybe one day someone will click with him.
His phone buzzed and he absently picked it up without looking to see who the message was from and opened it. His heart skipped a beat when he looked at it. It was from Evan and just said one word “Hey”.
Tommy was freaking out a bit. He hadn’t expected this to happen. He had taken a break and wanted Evan to experience his life now. He would have done the same had he been the first for a gay man. It wasn’t fair to tie someone down into a relationship if they hadn’t fully experienced life to its fullest.
“Hey,” Tommy replied back, “Saw you at the coffee shop a few days ago. You look good”
Tommy stared at the screen at the Typing bubble showed up on his phone. It was agonizing waiting to hear back. One minute. Two minutes. Was he writing the next great American novel over there?
“It was nice to see you as well,” was the reply. Eight words? It took him that long to write eight words? The typing bubble showed up again, “Can we meet up? I have some things I need to talk to you about.”
Tommy stared at his phone. Could he do this? It had been 6 months. Surely things had settled between them enough that they could have a cordial meet up right? “I could do that. Do you know a place?”
“Let’s get pizza for old times sake,” Evan replied. Tommy felt his heart beat a little harder in his chest, “You know the place. Did you want me to pick you up or meet you there?”
Tommy stared at the phone. While he would have loved to go there together, he knew that he couldn’t. Not easily anyways. 6 months they had been apart but every thought in his mind was about Evan. He had never had a relationship with anyone, quite like the one he had with Evan. There was something about it, “I can meet you there. 8 pm? Know a day?”
“Can we meet tonight?” Tommy’s heart fluttered in his chest. Did he dare accept?
While his brain was overthinking every situation that could come of this, his heart took control of his hands and he typed back, “That can work. I’ll see you there.”
“See you there,” was the reply. Tommy put his phone down and let out a breath that he didn’t realize he had been holding. This could go so many ways. Picking up his phone again and looking at the time, Tommy had about 3 hours to get ready. The Pizza place that Buck wanted to go to wasn’t too far from where Tommy lived. Maybe a 30 minute drive. It gave him time to look his best. They may be broken up, but Tommy definitely didn’t want Evan to see him look a mess.
He went about getting ready and he felt his heart fill with joy a little bit. He also started to have second thoughts on the breakup. Was this the best for the both of them?
***
Tommy walked up to the entrance to the restaurant at just before 8 pm. He was trying not to hyperventilate about what was about to happen. He stopped at the door and stood for a second, taking a few deep breaths to calm himself down before he walked in.
He could see Evan sitting at a table off to the right of the entrance. Tommy had a little bit of a chuckle. His brain was not thinking in perfect thoughts right now, but he just loved the idea of him picking a table slightly to the right of centre when the last happy conversation they had was about the Kinsey Scale and how Tommy was a solid 6.
He walked over and sat in the chair across from Evan, “Hey” he said. It was his general greeting for everyone.
“Hey,” Evan looked up to him, a light of what looked like happiness hiding in his eyes, “Thank you for coming”
“I didn’t have anything planned for tonight,” Tommy smiled but his eyes just kept taking in this man sitting in front of him. God he was beautiful, “Your text caught me by surprise though. Can’t say I was expecting it, but it was a nice surprise.”
“Yeah, well when I saw you at the coffee shop, I knew I had to reach out,” Evan smiled and looked down at his hands, “It just took me 3 days to send that first message. I kept psyching myself out and telling myself not to and that you hated me and that you didn’t want to hear from me”
“I could never hate you Ev…Buck,” Tommy quickly changed the name he called him. He had been thinking of his as Evan for so long that he had forgotten that friends call him Buck, “I was the one who broke it off with you. If anything, you should be hating me.”
Tommy saw Evan deflate a bit when he changed the name he called him. But what was he supposed to do? They were broken up. And as much as Tommy wished it, they weren’t going to get back together. Tommy had messed that up already with what he said when they broke up. The best he could hope for is salvage and become friends and just watch from the outside and be supportive while Evan found someone new.
“I could never hate you either Tommy,” He whispered. He was still looking down. Tommy reached across the table and gently put a couple fingers underneath Evans chin and lifted his head so they could look each other in the eye. Tommy was a little shocked to see the barest hint of what could only be tears in Evans eyes.
Tommy coughed quickly, “Anyways should we order something? I want to hear all about your life since the last time we saw each other.”
Tommy picked up his menu and used it to hide his face a bit. The tears and look of sadness on Evan’s face was going to get to him if he didn’t compose himself. Deep breaths. Deep breaths.
They eventually ordered a pizza to share and some drinks, “So the woman I saw you at the coffee shop was very pretty. Did things go well?”
Evan was a little taken aback by that statement, “You think she’s pretty? I thought you were a 6 on the Kinsey Scale?”
“Just because I can notice when someone is attractive doesn’t mean that I want to immediately have sex with them,” Tommy chuckled. That broke the downer mood that had been soaking the two of them since the moment he sat down. Evan chuckled as well, “Society has its standards of beauty in men, women, and anyone in between. These are drilled into us from an early age. You ask a straight man who the most attractive man to them is, and I can almost guarantee you that they will give you one of the Chrises or one of the Ryan’s”
Evan smiled at that, “Chrises and Ryan’s?” This man was clueless sometimes. Tommy smiled at him. This man could find a substack about some 200 year old cowboy but he knew nothing about the Kinsey Scale or the Chrises and Ryans.
“Well first you have the easy ones, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and Chris Pratt. They have all been in Marvel movies, so everyone knows about them. Then you toss in Chris Pine, and you have the Chrises. Chris Pine is the odd one out as he hasn’t been in Marvel, and he has what some people call an Odd Attractiveness. The other Chrises are conventionally attractive,” Tommy took a sip of his drink before he continued, “Then you have the Ryan’s. Ryan Reynolds and Ryan Gosling. Both very attractive men in their own rights and both very famous for various different reasons.”
“I never thought of it that way,” Evan replied, “I always thought that just because you were straight or gay you didn’t really notice the other gender.”
“Well, you have much to learn my Baby Bi,” Tommy chuckled, “You didn’t answer my question though. How did things go with the blonde at the coffee shop? Don’t think you can change the subject by claiming your naivety in things around the LGBT+ world.”
Evan smiled and it melted Tommy’s heart, it was good to see him like this, “It went OK. We aren’t planning anything else though. Seeing you at the shop put me in a bit of a mood.”
“I’m sorry about that,” Tommy replied, “She looked like she was your type. Well, I think. I don’t really know your type when it comes to women.”
“I don’t really have a type when it comes to anyone really,” Evan explained, “I just find certain people attractive and decide then and there if I want to date them. She was pretty but not what I was looking for I guess.”
“Well, that sucks,” Tommy replied, “I haven’t had much luck either. Nothing clicks I guess.”
“Its hard to find something like what we had,” Evan replied. He sounded sad again. Tommy didn’t know how to make him happy again right now, so he just took a bite of his pizza on his plate.
They ate in silence, Tommy sneaking glances at Evan, hoping he wouldn’t notice. He thinks he got caught at least once and quickly started looking off into the restaurant, trying to hide what he was doing. This was truly one of the most beautiful men he had ever seen. He was a fool for letting this go.
After they finished their pizza, it was time for dessert. Evan ordered a tiramisu, and Tommy ordered his usual Spumoni. What could he say, it was his favorite. And when you know you like something, you always go back to it.
While Tommy was thinking to himself, he caught sight of a spoon reaching across the table and taking a piece out of his dessert, “Hey!”
Evan smiled as he placed the frozen dessert into his mouth. Tommy smiled a little. Picking up his spoon, Tommy reached across and took a scoop of Evans dessert. He got an indignant little squeak from Evan over that as he raised it to his mouth, “All’s fair in love and war Evan.”
Tommy watched as Evan’s smile grew wider as he heard his name spoken out loud. Tommy didn’t realize that it was going to happen. He smiled a bit before taking the bite of Buck’s dessert.
They back and forth stole each other’s desserts until there was nothing left on the plate, and they were giggling like two school boys who had seen something naughty, “I miss this,” Evan said with a sigh, “I miss you.”
Tommy stopped giggling and looked directly at Evan. Had he heard what he thought he heard?
“I miss seeing you come home after work, covered in soot. I miss standing in the kitchen cooking us dinner, you coming up behind me just to hold me. I miss waking up in your arms,” Evan continued, “I miss us.”
“Evan,” Tommy tried to get him to stop. This was hurting him too much, but Evan lifted up a hand.
“Let me finish,” Evan continued to talk, “We came here to talk about life so let me finish and then you can have your say,” He put his hand down and took a breath, “Over the past 6 months I admit that I did try dating new people. Men, women, I think I went out with a non-binary person once as well. And each and every one of those ended the same. Me alone in my loft. They always ended up the same because of one thing. They weren’t you. None of them were you. It took me a while to fully understand what happened between us.
Tommy stared at Evan as he spoke. He could feel tears welling up in his eyes and he tried to stop them, but they just started to fall down his cheeks. He hadn’t wanted this. He just wanted to talk to Evan again. To be a part of his life again.
“I realize now that I wanted the future with the idea I had of you. I wanted the idea I had of you move in with me in my Loft, which lets face it, was a ridiculous thing to say at the time,” Tommy noticed that Evan was essentially talking to his hands as they wrung a napkin in his hands, “And it took me talking to Maddie, Eddie, Josh, and basically everyone in the 118 to realize what I did to you. And to understand why you did what you did. You were scared. You were scared of being hurt and I understand that now. You didn’t want to be hurt so you hurt yourself and me in the process.”
The tears were steadily going down Tommy’s cheeks at this point. He wasn’t a super emotional person. He worked in a life or death job. He saw people die all the time. He could compartmentalize everything. But right now, he was failing at that.
“I tried to hate you at the start of it,” Evan still hadn’t looked up. Why wouldn’t he look at Tommy, “I tried really hard. But I couldn’t. You had just broken my heart, and I couldn’t hate you. It wasn’t until a month in when I was visiting Maddie at work, and the wise gay sage that is Josh was there and he gave me some words of wisdom, ‘You jumped ahead too far. You are currently seeing a future with who you think Tommy is. Not who Tommy actually is. And until you figure out which one you want to have a future with, you need to sit back and think about what it is you truly want. Do you want the idea of Tommy that you have? This unattainable statuesque Greek God of a man. Or do you want Tommy, the man who was engaged to a woman for 2 years, who had to survive the military at the height of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Tommy who is scarred beyond what you can see. And when you decide which, it is that you want, well the universe will bring you what you need.’ And then he just made a dramatic exit from the room.”
Tommy chuckled a little while the tears kept flowing. He kept looking towards Evan, “Now I know that it was you who broke things off with me, in a not very classy fashion by the way,” Evan finally looked up from the napkin he had basically shredded into tiny pieces during his speech, “But I wanted to see if maybe, you wanted to try again? Try being together? It took me awhile to realize that I wanted the Tommy with all the scars that I never got a chance to learn about. The visible and invisible ones. You don’t need to answer right away. I can give you time to think about it. But I know that it is you that I want. You that I need in my life. You that I see a future with.”
Tommy stood up, his eyes blurry at this point, walked around the table towards Evan, leaned down, placed his hand gently on Evan’s chin, and kissed him with as much love and passion as he could muster. He didn’t want this to stop. He couldn’t let this stop. Of course he wanted Evan back.
The kiss ended and they were both breathless. The noise of the restaurant hadn’t died down so hopefully nobody was staring at their very obvious display, “Should I take that as a yes?” Evan was breathless and Tommy was as well. He nodded his head vigorously.
Evan’s smile became the widest that Tommy had ever seen. He didn’t know how to take that. Evan grabbed him and pulled him in close, nuzzling his head into the crook of Tommy’s neck, “We should probably pay the bill and go I guess,” Tommy said eventually, enjoying holding Evan again. It had been too long, and he missed the gentle breathing.
Tommy reluctantly let Evan go so they could pay their bill and head out, “House or Loft?” Evan asked as they walked out the door.
“Huh?” Tommy was confused.
“House or loft? If you think I’m going to spend tonight alone, you have another thing coming. So will we spend the night at the house or loft?” Evan explained.
Tommy smiled, realizing that this was all his again. This perfect man, with his substacks, his belief in curses and his random spirals into insanity. This was all his again. Walking towards his truck, Tommy smiled and said, “House,” before getting in, “Though we’ll need to stop by your loft to grab some items for you for the morning after.”
Tommy watched as Evan smiled. That smile always made him melt. Before he had met Evan, he was reserved. He had slowly started to come out of his shell a bit. To be more of the man that Evan had seen he could be. He still had worked to do before he was that person. But with Evan by his side, maybe he could be that person. Maybe the idea of Tommy that Evan had in the past could be the Tommy he gets in the future. Only time would tell at least.
Sitting on the drivers side of his truck, Evan on the passengers side, Tommy shifted his truck into gear and backed out of his parking stall. He felt a hand over top of his on the gear shift and smiled. This. This was what was best for the both of them.

And that's the end of that. Thank you all for reading. I wrote this because S8xE06 really irked me so I wanted to fix it somehow. Let me know what you think.

Are you high, N?!
Summary: Uzi and N are invited to a party. Uzi had detention, so she told N to go without her first. Uzi had asked V to keep an eye on him. Uzi should've known better. Teenagers bring magnets to parties. And they had given some to N. Perfect. Just ...perfect.
Uzi stomped through the hallway, feeling a mixture of both concern and frustration. She was heading towards Thad’s place, where the latter was hosting a party. Uzi, for once, had been invited and so was N. She had been psyched to go, but due to an unfortunate accident involving her Solver abilities, she had detention. It was like she wanted to rip that girl’s arm off. …okay, maybe a little. It was not like they couldn’t attach it back.
So, because of that, she hadn’t been able to get to the party when it started, but that didn’t mean that N had to wait. She had told him that it was okay for him to go without her and that they would meet up after her ‘after-school prison experience’. She didn’t mind. It would be an opportunity for him to meet and get to know some more of her classmates. You know, in case one of them was being an annoyance to her and she needed to sic her boyfriend on them. …and because N needed to make more friends, obviously.
She actually had to almost beg for him to go, because he had hinted that he would break into the detention room and hang out there. Which would’ve led into them both into more trouble. So, once she finally had managed to convince him to go with V and Lizzy, she had gone to her detention and awaited the slow, agonizingly boring hour before she was released.
But that was not why she was stomping through the halls at her hastened pace. No, a few minutes earlier, she’d gotten a text from V that N ‘was in a bit of trouble’, but she refused to elaborate on what. So, summarized: concern for N, frustration for V.
It didn’t take long for Uzi to reach Thad’s place – just had to follow the music and telltale sounds of rambunctious teenagers – and was met by V and Lizzy.
“So, where is that idiot?” Uzi asked.
“Which idiot?” V asked with a wicked grin. She pointed her thumb at the door behind her. “There’s a lot of idiots in there.”
“My idiot!” Uzi pinched the spot where her nose would’ve been – if they had been designed with noses, obviously – and sighed. “Can you please tell me what happened?”
“Uh …” V suddenly looked bashful, scratching her cheek with a nervous grimace. “Better if you see for yourself.”
Uzi wasn’t getting any calmed with these answers. “Can you at least tell me if N alright?” She asked, feeling a mild panic bubbling up but trying really hard not to show it. “He’s not hurt, is he?”
“No, he’s …fine.” V answered. “Let’s just say that he has, uh …experienced what teenage drone culture is.”
“Don’t tell me he’s he drunk on gasoline?” Uzi groaned. When V shook her head, she let out a groan. “Okay, whatever it is, I thought I asked you to keep an eye on him?”
“You did, and I was.” V defended herself. Uzi noticed how barely noticeable blush lines were forming on her visor. “It just happened so fast. I was only gone for just a few minutes.”
“A few minutes …”
“Maybe longer?”
“For what? What were you doing that you left N alone?”
“I was …preoccupied with …things.” V really started to blush now.
“Doing what?”
Lizzy let out something that was a combination of a frustrated groan and a defeated sigh. “We were making out in the closet.” She clarified with a blush of her own. “Very …passionately and heavily.” She pulled V’s scarf – that Uzi just noticed she had been wearing – away and showed the bite mark on her shoulder. “Very heavily.”
V started to blush like crazy, looking like she got caught with her hand in the computer chip cookie jar.
Uzi felt herself blush as well, but she quickly shook it off. She coughed in her hand. “Well …okay, then. I guess as far as reasons go …I’ll give you a pass.” She sighed. “Can you please take me to N now, in whatever state he is you refuse to tell me?”
V and Lizzy guided Uzi through the mass of partying teenagers that had assembled inside Thad’s house. Drones making out, getting drunk on Thad’s parents’ gasoline supply, dancing badly, the usual stuff …if Uzi had to believe all those movies that involved parties, since she never received any invitations to one prior to this one. They brought her to a room and opened the door.
“We, uh, found him in here. Felt it best to leave him there. See if he’s alright or whatever.” Lizzy stated, already taken out her phone to check …whatever it was she always did on her phone. She grabbed V’s arm and started to pull her away. “We have a closet to get back to.”
Uzi rolled her eyes and walked into the room. She immediately noticed N, laying down on the floor, arms sprawled out and …humming a song? To her relief, he didn’t look hurt at all. He seemed a bit out of it, for some reason. He hadn’t noticed her entering or anything. Uzi cleared her throat.
No reaction.
“Ahem!”
N looked up with a dopey smile. “Uuuuziiiiiiii…”
“Hey N, wh – Wait!“ Uzi suddenly noticed a pair of magnets lying next to him. It suddenly all clicked together. His dopey behaviour, the way he seemed out of it. She let out a groan, pinching the non-existent bridge of her equally non-existent nose. She let out a heavy groan. “N, are you high?”
N started to laugh dopily, the question somehow very amusing to him. “Am-am I whaaa?”
Frustrated, Uzi grabbed him by his jacket and pulled him up, bringing him an inch apart from her own face. “High!”
N laughed again. “H-hiiii!” Then he booped his face against hers with a crooked grin. Uzi, blushing from the unexpected display of affection, didn’t even have time to properly process what was before here, before N promptly passed out.
Uzi placed him gently back on the ground and sighed. How the heck did he get his hands on pair of magnets?
…
What was she saying, she was at a party. A party organized by teenagers and occupied by teenagers. Of course they would have smuggled magnets with them. Of course, they would have offered some to N and, of course, N would’ve tried it.
“’I love doing anything.’, ‘I’m open to new things, I guess.’.” Uzi muttered to herself, repeating the phrases that N once told her. She sighed, crossing her arms and giving her passed out boyfriend a sympathetic smile. She couldn’t be mad at him for this. She was the one who had told him to go without her and make new friends. Although, she had hoped he would’ve been smarter than this.
“Okay, buddy. Let’s get you home.” Uzi said to her unconscious boyfriend and bend over to pick him up – which was easier than one would think when looking at Uzi’s small frame. She slung one of his arms over her shoulder and started to drag him out of there.
Once she exited the room, she, surprisingly, encountered V – sans Lizzy.
“Uzi, hey, I just …” V rubbed the back of her head nervously. “I’m sorry, okay? I should have been looking out for him, and-“
“Ugh, forget it.” Uzi quickly interjected. She wasn’t in the mood for an emotional conversation – she had the impression that V had a bit of gasoline inside of her as well. “I’m not mad at you. I’m …disappointed in him. I’m just gonna get him home and let him sober out.”
“Do you need help?”
“No, I-“ She huffed and attempted to get N into a more carriable position. “I got this?”
V grinned, her initial guilt quickly replaced with her usual mischievous wickedness. “Okay, if you say so, purple thing. See ya.” With that said, she left Uzi to her own devices.
It took a lot of effort, a lot of huffing and puffing and accidentally dropping her quarry a few times, but Uzi managed to bring N to the apartment that he and V had moved into. She dragged him to his bedroom and hauled him into his bed. With a huff she sat down next to him, wiping the digital sweat from her visor. She looked at her sleeping beauty and smiled softly. She pulled his sheets over him and stood up, ready to leave.
When she heard N groan in his sleep she stopped. With a sigh, she took out her phone and started to text her mom.
Uzi: [Mom, N got high on magnets @ the party. Got him home. Gonna stay with him until he’s OK.]
Mom: [OK NP]
Uzi grinned. So that’s what it was like to have a cool parent.
And then she got another text from her mom.
Mom: [Did you do magnets?]
Uzi: [NO! I wasn’t at the party! I had detention due to non-magnet related reasons.]
Mom: […]
Mom: [Okay. See you tomorrow.]
Still the cool parent. Uzi put her phone away with a smile and turned back to N …and stopped dead in her tracks, a blush slowly but surely glowing brighter on her visor. How was she gonna do this? Just …get in bed with him? It’s not like they never had a sleepover, but he usually slept upside down. That’s why there was a bar above the bed. He’d sleep there and Uzi would sleep in the bed. It would the first time they’d actually sleep in the same bed together.
She gulped and walked over to N’s bed. As she lifted up the sheet and crawled into the bed, she felt her circuits heat up. With a beating core, she started to shuffle closer and closer against N. She heard him groan in his sleep, stirring and shifting. One of his eyes opened slightly?
“Ugh …U-Uzi?” N asked groggily. He still seemed to be half-asleep. “Wha …what happ’nd?”
“You got high on magnets. I picked you up and got you home.” Uzi explained softly. “I’m staying the night. Is that …okay?”
N remained silent for a few moments. He let out a sigh. “You’re mad.”
“I’m not …okay, a little.” Uzi sighed. “How the heck did you get magnets?”
“Some guys offered.” N explained, his eyes falling shut again. “Said ‘all the cool kids do it’.”
Uzi groaned. “How about tomorrow, you point them out and I’ll …talk to them?”
“Hmmmkay …” N agreed sleepily, still too high to recognize the sarcastic tone in Uzi’s voice. “’m s’rry, Uzi.”
“It’s f-mhhh?” Uzi’s visor heated up when she realized that N had planted his lips on hers.
‘Oh my robo-God, we’re kissing!’ was the only thought rushing through her mind, running on repeat.
It wasn’t their first kiss, far from it. But Uzi still was getting used to these types of affection, and generally didn’t like it when it happened so suddenly like this. But this time …this time she just melted into the kiss and wrapped her arms around him. Once they parted, she just let out a dopey giggle. “Okay, you’re forgiven …for now.”
“Cool …” N really sounded like he was gonna pass out again at any moment. Uzi wondered if he even realized he had kissed her like that.
He pulled her close against his chest – Uzi felt like she was going to burn a hole through N’s mattress with the way her visor was burning. She opened her mouth to say something, but it seemed that N had fallen asleep again. With a heavy sigh, Uzi surrendered herself to the situation and forced herself to relax into N’s embrace. She buried her face into his chest and closed her eyes.
This evening hadn’t gone the way she thought it would’ve gone.
She found it too bad she had missed the party.
Then again … in hindsight, this was way better than any party.
…
She still was gonna give him an earful in the morning.
But for now …sleeping in N’s arms was enough.
More than enough.

I was totally genuine because I would love your stuff on 911 proper! They're dropping the ball with everything atm, which is so damn frustrating, considering the setup they gave themselves this spring.
Much love! 🤗
Glad for the clarification! ❤️❤️
I can totally understand your feelings. Mine aren’t far off. I waffle back and forth basically by the hour over whether this is all a tee-up and there’s real intention behind it, or whether they truly did give up the best thing that they’ve had in years.
One of my biggest struggles on it all and how it doesn’t make sense, is the active effort to include Tommy/Lou in the social media posts and ABCs use of him in ads as well. I understand that the networks opinion isn’t the end-all, be-all. But I just can’t coalesce all that’s been fed to us to this point, both from a story standpoint, and from the use of Lou/Tommy in the grander scheme at large. It doesn’t make any sense in the narrative, regardless of the ideals that some people have about him being a plot point or “entry level relationship”. One of the quotes I think back on is when Oliver said he wanted to see these two go through the struggles do in their first year of a relationship. That quote alone was one of the things (along with the intentional use of “Evan”) that said to me “people want this to be a short story, but these factors point to Tommy being around long-term”. It goes to the issue that Tommy does not see Evan as “Buck”, when we have already extrapolated that Buck is a mask. We’ve known that since season 3 when he told Bobby that putting on his uniform makes him feel like he can do anything, and “Buck” was a name he took on FOR work. It’s a dignification that creates separation for him from others. By relation, Evan can be as stripped bare and honest as he wants. This is why the use of his first name has always been important. Maddie can see him stripped down and bare, metaphorically speaking, because she knows his trauma. She’s his sister so she gets Evan rights. Eddie used his first name once with the will. In the same context as being stripped down, this was important because he wasn’t communicating with Buck from the standpoint of coworkers, but as a close friend telling him that he had made a decision about the safety and care of his child, should something happen to him. I can’t remember if we’ve ever seen Bobby use his first name, but this has always felt less important because of the father/son narrative.
We’ve seen Chimney throw around “Evan” in weird contexts, but I don’t think it’s a bad thing, so much as they have a unique relationship due to being coworkers, friends, and brothers simultaneously. I think that’s why anytime we hear him say “Evan”, it’s a bit of a play on fucking with him.
So when we cycle back to Tommy, who had only EVER called him Evan, using the name Buck is him forcing himself to create a separation. We also as a fanbase hear that and go “no, that’s wrong, it doesn’t sound right”.
At the end of the day, I cannot reason a fact to build all of this into a narrative (and I do mean ALL of it), include Lou in social media posts, have him be involved in interviews about the show… all to set it on fire 13 episodes after he returns. You’d have to have a damn good reason for doing so, like an actor wanting to leave or being so problematic that they need them gone. Now, a certain group would like for us to believe this, but we don’t have any actual proof of ANY of this narrative. That all said, we have to revert back to what we know and what we’ve been told. Which is confusing.
So. I’ve rambled again. And repeated myself in some contexts 😂 but I think I made my point? (If not I’ll obviously come up with more shit later 😂😂)

will taking care of Samy on a sick day
let’s say this takes place at some point during their freshman year of college like on a break or something
au masterlist
the first three times samy coughed will didn’t pay much mind to it. it was cold, the days were long, and work was piling up with finals rapidly approaching. the whole semester was taking a toll on everyone.
the couple was in the blonde’s bedroom finishing up some studying even though it was thanksgiving break and will knew samy wasn’t feeling her best. there were heavy bags under her eyes and she kept sniffling, but will didn’t mention it because he knew she hated when he pointed it out. so he didn’t.
until the brunette coughed for a fourth time that sounded like she was hacking up her lungs, will finally said something.
“are you okay?” the blonde wondered, eyeing his girlfriend across from him.
“oh, yeah. i’m fine,” she coughed again and they both knew that was a lie.
“baby, you sound like you’re like dying,” will chuckled a bit, hand on her knee.
“it’s just a stupid cold. it’s been going around at michigan. i’ll be fine,” samy shook her head. she couldn’t afford to be sick with finals coming up and the off-season just around the corner.
“you know it’s okay to rest right? it’s break. you don’t have to be doing work right now,” the blonde was testing his luck telling her that, but he didn’t want her overworking herself when she didn’t even really need to be.
“but i kind of do. finals week is like two weeks away,” samy rolled her eyes a bit, another cough slipping through her lips.
although, this time it turned more into a hack and before the younger smith could even blink, samy was off his bed and running into the bathroom. sounds of puking could be heard as will quickly followed after her. he immediately pulled her hair back as she threw up some more.
“hey, it’s okay. get it all out,” he rubbed her back as he reached over to flush the toilet and check her temperature.
“you’re burning up. let’s get you to bed.”
will helped her back up. he moved all of their things to his desk before helping her into his bed and bringing the trash can around to the side.
“so maybe you were right,” the brunette admitted weakly while her boyfriend frowned.
“i’m gonna get you some water and medicine. do you want anything else?” he wondered, brushing her hair away from her eyes.
samy shook her head. will gently kissed her forehead before disappearing from his room. his mom and sister were downstairs when he came into the kitchen, the two of them smiling.
“hi will, what’s up?” colleen asked.
“samy is sick. do we have anything we can give her?” the younger boy wondered.
“oh no. is she okay?” mrs. smith’s mother instincts kicked in, straightening up and rummaging through the cupboards.
“she just threw up and she’s kind of burning up. she said it was just a cold, but it might be something else like the flu,” will explained.
“i did hear from ellen that something was going around over there. i have some pepto bismol, tylenol, and water. have her take some of this and take her temperature,” colleen placed everything on the counter.
“thanks, mom,” will grabbed all of it in his arms and headed back upstairs to do as told.
“hey, i’m back. i have some stuff for you to take,” will popped his head back into his room. samy rolled to her side, sitting up a little.
“thanks. sorry i threw up in your bathroom,” the brunette frowned.
“why are you apologizing? it’s okay,” he rubbed her arm.
he helped her take the pepto for her stomach and then she took two tylenol’s to hopefully help with the developing headache. will sat at her side rubbing the side of her head in circular motions while they waited for the thermometer to report her temperature.
it beeped a second later and will snatched it before samy could see. “100 flat already. we’ll have to keep an eye on it,” the blonde hummed.
“is that bad?” the girl worried.
“no, it’s pretty normal, but if you go above 104 then we’ll be worried, but i don’t think you will. just rest and keep drinking water,” will reassured with a soft smile.
“sorry i got sick. i know we were looking forward to hanging out and stuff,” samy frowned a bit.
“baby, you don’t have to apologize. we can still hang out. i can lay with you,” will offered.
“no, i don’t wanna get you sick. you have a game in like two days,” the brunette quickly shook her head, scooting away from her boyfriend.
he laughed, “you won’t, i promise. and if you do, i don’t really care.”
“if you get sick you won’t get to play in the game,” she knew how important these games coming up were for boston and she would not let them lose their more valuable player.
“you know i’d take getting sick with you over anything, right?” will raised his eyebrow, another smile poking his lips.
“you’re crazy,” she rolled her eyes.
“maybe i am,” the blonde smiled to himself as he laid down, wrapping his arms around the girl. she snuggled into him, enjoying the warmth radiating off his body even though he was in a t-shirt and it was cold outside.
the next 24 hours will spent all of his time helping samy to the bathroom, feeding her more medicine, and checking her temperature every few hours. luckily, she only went up two more degrees. it was hard for her to relax and shut her brain off knowing all of the things she needed to get done before going back to school, but she let will take care of her.
he massaged her head, cuddled with her, helped her eat something, made her food—he was perfect and she loved him for it because she would do the exact same thing if he was the one sick.
and surprise, surprise. three days later after the big game against providence, will came down with a fever.

I’ll answer the Harley stuff first because I may or may not have a snippet for the Piper one ;)
So, I feel like in Fate verse (I’m just gonna call it that, series title for that series of oneshots is “fate and other technicalities”), Harley’s siblings (especially Nyssa) tried to make sure he didn’t see Leo when things were really bad early on. They let him know Leo was hurt, because the whole Leo blowing himself up and Jason carrying into the infirmary missing a leg and covered in ash was kind of a big deal that would have been hard to miss, and they let him know that Leo is going to be okay, but they don’t want Harley going to the infirmary while Leo is still out cold.
Harley insists he wants to see him and probably sneaks in. Curses at poor sleep-deprived Jason that he should have protected Leo better but Jason already feels like it’s his fault and him just agreeing that it’s his fault actually doesn’t help Harley feel better so he just kind of pats Jason’s arm awkwardly and apologizes. They just kind of sit there together for a bit and Harley squeezes Leo’s hand and tells him to wake up and that he’s stupid and then darts out again (it’s all a lottt for such a little kid)
I also like to think that the ring/fold-out crutches were Harley’s idea. Hc that maybe he had an injured leg at some point during the whole Hephaestus cabin curse business and remembers how annoying it was figuring out where to put the crutches when he wasn’t using them, so he didn’t want Leo to have to deal with that, and all of his siblings come together to help to make the crutches.
He’s the one presenting them to Leo totally claiming he made them all by himself and Nyssa lightly raises an eyebrow at him and he sighs and goes “I guess the others helped, too” and Leo just laughs and ruffles his hair
A lot of what you’re asking regarding Piper will be saved for tchig, and I can’t go into that too much for spoiler reasons, but I do have a Piper WIP that’s a sort of companion fic to tchig and takes place at the same time as Leo’s little… trip, so I’ll share a preview from that! (Obviously this takes place bit later than we are in the current tchig timeline, so there’s some slight spoilers in this snippet)
“The demigod you’re trying to reach is currently outside of my service area. Please try again later,” a tinny voice sounded through the rainbow.
“What do you mean, he’s outside your service area?” Piper asked, struggling to keep her voice calm.
She was trying not to cry.
Not being able to reach Leo wouldn’t have freaked her out on most days—he’d told her he needed some space to process things, and as much as she wished that wasn’t the case, she understood—but today of all days, it was just too much. “Thank you for choosing the Iris Messaging service,” the voice from the rainbow continued, ignoring her question. It was fucking recording. “If you would like to end the call, please press red. If there is anyone else you’d like to contact-”
Piper did cry, then. Forget not crying in front of the stupid rainbow goddess. She couldn’t help the sobs building in her chest. Couldn’t help the way her thoughts spiraled. What if something had happened to Leo? What if, after everything they’d been through, she’d lost him, too? If she’d gotten him back just to immediately have him ripped away from her again?
A little over three months ago, Piper had cradled Jason’s lifeless body in her arms after a mission gone awry.
She’d gotten better at dealing with the grief and the memories since Hazel and Frank had gotten her in contact with a therapist—a child of Bacchus that Piper didn’t have to hold anything back from. Talking to her helped. But a few months weren’t enough to heal the kind of grief that came with losing a section of your heart.
Piper hadn’t loved Jason the way she’d initially thought she did, but she had loved him. He’d been her best friend. When they’d lost Leo, having Jason to hold her through it had been the only thing keeping Piper sane. Jason, who was a terminal optimist and believed against all odds that Leo was okay—that he had to be okay, because he was Leo, and there was nothing he couldn’t do if he set his mind to it.
And Jason had been right. Leo was okay. But he hadn’t lived to be reunited with him.
Leo had taken it the hardest out of anyone. They were all grieving in their own ways, but Leo had shut down completely. Piper hadn’t seen him cry much before it had happened. Leo joked his way through most situations with worryingly practiced ease. To an extent, he’d still done that with Jason’s death. But he’d also sobbed into Piper’s shoulder until his voice failed him. He’d cried a lot during the weeks he’d stayed with her, and more in most Iris Messages after.
Piper couldn’t imagine what it was like to only realize you were in love with someone after they’d been ripped away from you for good.
But she was grieving, too. She would have held Leo through it all, if only he had let her.
So! If anyone would like to be distracted/cheered up a little please feel free to send me some short valgrace/lost trio prompt and I’ll try to write a drabble or do some headcanons or something. Sfw stuff only please but otherwise I’m good with pretty much anything request-wise

As soon as she mentioned telling her sisters what happened, Morty immediately protested. That made Bubbles pause, a bit surprised at the fact that he didn’t want either of her sisters to know when rationally, it would be a good thing for her to tell both Blossom and Buttercup what Boomer had done. It was even a little upsetting that he didn’t want either to them to be told right away, but as he explained further on how he wasn’t ready for everyone to know yet, she merely nodded in response. He pleaded for her to give it a few days before mentioning it to anyone else, and as much as hearing that upset the blonde further, she decided to respect that. “Okay, I won’t tell them yet.” Bubbles replied, still not happy but at the same time, not wanting to upset or cause anymore frustration onto Morty. She could wait a few days. She didn’t like the thought of having to do so, especially if Boomer decided to randomly show up again and go for a round two while her boyfriend was recovering, but the Powerpuff tried to rationalized that as long as she stayed close to him until he gave it the ‘okay’ to tell, everything should be fine. “I’ll just text them and let them know I’m staying the night then.”
Shooting her sisters a quick text within their shared group chat, it didn’t take long for her to get a response back from the both of them. A “i’ll let the Professor know and have fun!” from Blossom followed by a disgust emoji from Buttercup, Bubbles let out a small laugh as the implications of why she was staying the night was there, yet as true as that may have been if she and Morty had been able to go out on their date as planned— sex was not in the cards tonight. If anything, it’ll be rather lucky if her boyfriend is able to sleep comfortably throughout the entire night. “Blossom said she’ll let our dad know I won’t be home tonight either, so I’m good to stay here.” The Powerpuff stated to both Morty and Ferdie, as if she wouldn’t have stayed even if she had to head back home. Unless there was a separate emergency happening over there, staying here with Morty took top priority for her.
Morty was glad to hear that Bubbles wasn’t going anywhere tonight, nodding in accidental unison with Ferdie as they both accepted that she was here to stay. Of course they didn’t mind, or they wouldn’t have invited her! The only thing that pulled Morty out of the relative sense of peace that washed over him when Bubbles agreed to stay was what she suggested next—that she was going to tell her sisters what had happened. He groaned again, whined, “Not yet...” And maybe he was being a big old baby, but he was wiped out and on some killer painkillers and just not ready for everyone in the world to know the state he was in. Even if the other two Utonium girls weren’t “everyone in the world,” they were two more people than he thought needed to know immediately after he got his shit rocked. Letting his own family know was bad enough…Besides, this whole mess involved Millie, so he wanted to tell her before everyone else knew what had gone down—and he wasn’t ready to do that yet. He needed a day or two to gather his wits before engaging in that conversation with her, which meant nobody else (besides those on a need-to-know basis like his roommates and family) should hear about it yet.
“You can tell them you’re staying over,” Morty said in modification of his protest, to let his girlfriend know that wasn’t the part he was objecting to. “But can you just give it a couple days before explaining why? I’m not ready for everyone to know.” Here he sent a meaningful look at his twin, as well, letting Ferdie know that he better not tell anyone else besides immediate family either. It was unnecessary, Ferdie already realizing he was included in that directive, but Morty didn’t want Bubbles to think he was only imposing the rule on her. It wasn’t her fault—or even Blossom’s in honesty—but how could he trust Buttercup to hear what had happened without either immediately flying out to fight Boomer herself, or telling her best friend what was going on because she and Louie kept nothing from each other (and then the whole Duck family would know.) It was all just too much, too soon. Morty needed a good long rest without having to worry about all that.
#( why can’t we all just get along instead of fighting and arguing? : interactions )#( c: morty )#morty4

AITA for banning my husband and father in law from the delivery room due to their intensely stressful/creepy behavior during my pregnancy?
There’s a famous Reddit post from 2020 where a pregnant woman wrote that her husband and father-in-law were a little too comfortable with their certainty that she was absolutely going to die in childbirth just like her husband’s late mother. It was to the point where her FIL was insisting that she go ahead and put all her clothes into storage, because she was obviously going to die in the hospital and it would save them the grief of packing up her things afterwards. Like. It was WILD.
When I tell my husband [that she feels suspicious of her FIL], he calls me paranoid, but I feel like my FIL WANTS me to die; his whole life identity for the past 35 years has been “amazing single dad” (never dated or had close friends or even hobbies really), and it seems like he’s looking forward to being able to guide my husband through what he went through. At this point, I’d honestly be happy to never see my FIL again, and I certainly don’t want him in the delivery room, especially since he told me he was “putting [his] foot down” about me not being “allowed” to have an epidural…. My husband, in addition to backing his dad on everything, acts like my due date is my death date, and has completely pulled away from me.
The commenters (and me, honestly) were convinced that the husband and FIL were either going to kill her outright to fulfill this expectation, or just make decisions about her care that might conveniently let her die.
And then she never posted again.
Over the last four years, people have frequently mentioned that post, always leading to a thread of people saying, “Oh god, I still worry about that woman.” I did too. It became one of those famous unresolved posts that people always wondered about.
Until yesterday, when someone on r/BestOfRedditorUpdates dug up a 2022 update she had posted on a different account:
TLDR; I had a beautiful and healthy baby girl, and I divorced my ex-husband. I lived, obviously.
She writes that she put her foot down about having her own mother in the delivery room rather than her FIL (!), and she WOULD be getting an epidural. Her husband lost his shit. And in his outburst, he let slip--
I admittedly lost my temper, and told him that I wasn’t going to die- it wasn’t my fault his father’s trauma wormed it’s way into his head, and that he needed to fix it without taking it out on me. He yelled at me that he didn’t need therapy. That caught me a little off guard; I asked him why he went to his therapist and was given advice about my death if he felt he didn’t need it. His expression gave it away, and he caved not long after. It turns out there was no therapist. It was just his dad. During the times he was supposed to be at therapy, he was with his dad. I’m still fuming.
And that was when she got the fuck out.
I’ll wrap this up- I’ve got an adorable little toddler tugging at my leg atm. I’m alive, I’m happy, and I’ve got my baby in my arms. Life is good.
I truly never thought we'd see a resolution to this, and I feel like there's probably a good number of people who remember it, so I thought you might want to know.
ETA: Brilliantly, I put the link in at the top; here it is again for convenience.

I hate doctors so much
#actually just a very specific doctor#i was supposed to get a check up for one specific thing in 2021 but it wasn’t actually urgent#i mean went in 2020 to this doctor he made me do a bunch of tests and concluded everything was fine but just to monitor the issue I should#redo some of those tests one year later#thing is I never did it but now I was like whatever I’ll go again ask him for the paper to be able to do the studies and get it over with#so I went and he told me everything was still the same as when I first went so I didn’t need to do the tests immediately but to just#get them done next year (again as a check up/to prevent any issues developing)#but the thing is he tells me I need two tests and one of them is an abdominal ecography#and i hate those like I can’t explain it but they are the one medical thing that gives me anxiety#so I just asked him since it’s not super relevant to my issue if that test was a MUST bc I would prefer not to do it#and he was like it’s not a must for YOUR issue but you should get it done bc it’s important to do these every once in a while#so he’s literally forcing me to get this ecography done even if it isn’t even necessary for MY thing#like sir the rest of my health is not your concern this is not what I’m coming to you for#im coming for this specific issue leave me alone#personal

pretend this isn’t me you’ve never seen me i don’t exist
#i’m not even about to start my period and yet i’m just as sad as i usually get around that time#i think a lot of this comes down to what happened with my ex lmao#it was so good until she spent the night for the second time#she came over after a date with someone else where she explicitly told me she planned to have sex#i’ve never felt so fucking brushed to the side#i felt like an object. like i was somehow used just so she didn’t have to drive up to sf#she truly has no regard for anyone in her life except for herself#i kept telling her i was uncomfortable with her offering me money and yet she offered it to me time and time again#all i asked of her was to tell me if she wasn’t masking#and she didn’t. she put her comfort over a virus that has already caused life-altering issues for me#i’ve never had someone so blatantly disregard me all while claiming to love me#also! fucked up to tell your partner you love them after fucking someone else! cannot believe that has to be said#i thought she was gonna be good for me. i thought finally; finally someone wanted me in person#sometimes it feels like the only people to want me for more than my body and my ability to be walked on are online#which like. i love attention i’ll take it all but also it would feel nice to have someone see the all of me and want all of it#also friendship is so wonderful and fills me with so much joy#but feeling so undesired romantically is something i’ve lived with for years and it never gets less painful#if i had better taste maybe things would be different#but every single real life partner i’ve had has exclusively wanted me for either sex or emotional support#i just want to feel loved#not just told i am#but i want to feel it.#okay sad post over
