A dinner date with Queen h/c:

John Deacon

Okay, so to start with a cliche, he’s finally back from tour

Though you called every day and into the night, nothing beat actually having your Deaky home.

However, instead of going out, you decided to stay in

“I’ve eaten at restaurants every night. Having a home-cooked meal alone with my dearest would be Heaven on Earth.”

Always the charmer...

You both cook together in the kitchen. He let you choose, knowing fully how excited you’d be to cook your favorite meal.

He turns on the radio and, wouldn’t you know it, Queen is on. “You’re my best friend” plays, almost a movie moment.

As you stand over the stove, John comes up behind you, wrapping his arms around your waist and humming to the song- the one he wrote for you.

You crane your hear to kiss him on the cheek, smiling into him.

“What’s it like being a rockstar, whose songs play on the radio?”

“Well, it’s an interesting lifestyle, yknow? But it could never beat being with you”

You wouldnt ever say it but that statement totally kills you.

As you finish up the cooking, he goes to set the table, pulling out the fancy plates because, yknow what? This is a special occasion. Good time to use the special plates.

He also lights a candle and pours water. As you come out with the food to serve you both, you give a happy sigh as he finishes up.

“Oh John... this is beautiful.”

“Not as beautiful as you.”

He plants a chaste kiss on your lips before you set down the food in the center. You eat in comfortable silence, holding hands and just taking in the company of your husband

“I missed this.”

“I did too, my love.”

Roger Taylor

He picked you out of the audience at a concert one night.

You were lucky to have gotten front-row tickets and it only costed an arm and a leg

Worth it to see your favorite band on stage

During the concert you noticed a certain drummer making eye contact with you at several points

You even earned a wink and a smile from him to which you returned with an even bigger smile

One that almost made Roger lose focus

When you were invited backstage you were in SHOCK

You opened the door to see Roger standing while the rest of the band sat

He turns around and his eyes brighten.

You almost forget your own name from his expression.

“Ah, there you are. I’m glad we caught you.” He smiles.

“The pleasure’s all mine.” You stammer out, smiling like an idiot.

He introduces you to the rest of the band and you eccstatically shake all their hands.

“So is there a name to that pretty face I saw in the crowd?”

“(Y/n)”

“(Y/n)... Would you want to have a drink with me?” He asks you cocking a brow.

You nod and he whisks you away to a bar nearby.

He tells you to order whatever you want, on him of course. You fight him to handle the tip, but still order something relatively inexpensive.

He makes a face, reminding you you can have whatever you want. Still you go for your first option

“So... tell me about yourself.” He leans back in his chair and flashes that heart melting smile.

As you speak he seems fully attentive, wanting to remember every detail.

You both have so much to talk about and honestly you don’t think you’ve laughed like this in a LOOONG time.

Suddenly he goes a little quiet. You look at him, coming down from a giggle.

“What’s up?” You ask him

“I know I’m known to be a bit of a.... heartbreaker, but... I don’t want that reputation to make you feel less important.”

You give him a sympathetic smile. Of course the thought had crossed your mind, but just enjoying the night was enough, even if it could’ve been a dream.

“Thanks, Roger.” Is all you can think to say. Though, you make a bold move and put your hand over his. He sets his free hand on top of yours and leans in a bit.

“I think I’d like this to be a little more than just an evening drink and a friendly conversation.” he tells you.

“Me too.”

Brian May

When Brian was back in town, all he wanted was to have an evening with you.

It would be fun to go out, so long as it was more lowkey he figured.

You both dressed pretty casually. Though it was special, he didn’t want to make a huge fuss over things.

Still, you gussied up just a little bit.

When you came downstairs, Brian was gaping

He must’ve forgotten just how perfect you were while he was away because he swore he fell in love all over again

“Careful Bri, you keep gaping like that, you may get a fly in the mouth” you snicker. He snaps out of his trance and chuckles sheepishly

“You just look... incredible, love.”

“You do too.”

You share a kiss and head out together.

You decided to pack a picnic and go to the beach in the evening

It was a rare night in England that it was clear at the beach.

You walk for a little while before picking a spot on the shore and spread the blanket, unpack the food and sit down.

As you both eat you talk about his touring stories, life back here, and just any idle subject that comes to mind as the sun sets

After finishing food Brian finds this the best time to pull out a guitar and serenade you as the stars begin to appear in the sky.

You lean against him and close your eyes, taking in the sound of the waves and the presence of your beloved.

He begins to pluck out the beginnings of a song he was writing. One he said only you would be able to hear because he did not plan on recording it for an album

Everything is just incredibly serene.

Brian eventually puts down the guitar and holds you as you look at the sky

He chatters about the constelations, telling you the stories of them.

“I feel like I should be taking notes” you giggle. He hums and holds you closer

“There will be a quiz at the end of the date.” he says, sending you into a fit of laughter. He chuckles and buries his face in your shoulder

“I love you.”

“I love you too, Bri.”

Eventually it gets cold so you pack up and head back to your home. You never realized how tired you were. You nearly crashed the second your face hit the pillow.

Still you get up and get ready for bed with Brian and then get in bed again.

“I missed you.”

“I missed you too, love”

Freddie Mercury (platonic)

Sometimes Freddie would do such extravagant dinner dates with you, but he knows that it sometimes makes you umcomfortable- especially with papparazzi

He once took you to the Ritz and honestly you felt underdressed even in your best clothing.

So having a night at his home catching up with Freddie, Jim, and all the kitties was better than you hoped.

It was a few days after he was back from a vacation with Jim that Freddie decided to call you up

“Darling, are you busy tonight? You should come over and have dinner with us!” Be begged on the phone.

It was after a loooong day and honestly you were thinking of just having a good ol’ fashion me-date that night.

“I don’t know Fred... it’s really late... can’t we do it tomorrow?”

Freddie huffs through the phone. You can practically feel his puppy eyes through the phone.

“We miss you over here! Especially Delilah. Please, (y/n) I’ll be your best friend.” He begs.

You chortle and roll your eyes.

“You already are my best friend, Fred.” You chuckle.

“So then you’ll come?” He presses.

“Alright, I’ll be over soon- for Delilah.” He feins insult and chuckles.

“We’ll see you soon, lovey!”

When you get to the mansion, Jim greets you with a hug.

“Wonderful to see you again, (y/n).” He grins you return the regard and do some small talk as he leads you to the dining room.

“Freddie, (y/n)’s here.” Jim announces. Immediately, Freddie jumps up and wraps you in a bear hug, nearly knocking you over.

“Oh, I MISSED you! How are you darling? Are you well? Oh, please sit down we’ll get you food.” he rambles.

“I missed you too, Freddie. Thank you for having me over.”

Opera was playing in the background as you sat at the dining table. Freddie made sure to sit across from you next to Jim so he could A- hold hands with Jim but B- be able to be completey attentive when listening to his best friend speak

You were served your favorite, figuring Freddie had a preconcieved plan to invite you already. You all dug in immediately

Honestly you were unaware of how hungry you were.

“So... tell me about your vacation together” you say between bites.

Freddie and Jim banter as they tell you about their vacation to the Carribean together. Freddie is so animated and honestly your heart melte seeing your best friend so happy and in love.

The evening ended with drinks on the couch playing scrabble just like old times

Honestly, it was nice to have friends like them.

You had gotten up from the couch for the third time since coming over to your boyfriend, Shinsou Hitoshi's apartment. You started pacing and chewing on your finger nails, a bad habit you has since childhood. The reason you were so anxious, you were going to be confronting Hitoshi about your relationship.

You knew you loved the lavender haired man, but you didnt know if he loved you. He never told you. Yeah he would often do things that could mean he loves you but you didnt know and thats what was killing you on the inside.

So thats why you were pacing in his living room waiting for him to get home from patrol. You knew he'd be tired and you hating doing this right now, but you needed to know. You had texted Hitoshi so he knew you were at his place but why.

"Y/N? You here?" You heard your name being called from the front entrance. "Yeah, I'm in the living room Toshi." You called out. You hear Hitoshi groan out as he gets out of his shoes and he wanders into the living room.

"So wha- Kitten, whats the matter? Why have you been crying? Did something happen?" He dropped his hero case and rushed to you, checking you over visually. His hands going to your face to wipe away the tears that were falling from your eyes. You drew in a shakey breath "Toshi, I-I have to ask you something and Im scared. Because i know you probably do, but you've never told me and, and i just dont know. Do you love me?" You word vomit your eye grow large as your words catch up to your mind you hide you face in the crook of Hitoshi's neck.

He stands there stunned, his arms go around you pulling you into his chest. "Oh Kitten, you need me to say it dont you?" He asked softly, his hand going to your face pulling you away from his neck so he could look into your [E/C] eyes "Y/N L/N, I love you so damn much. Your the person i want to spend the rest of my life with. I love you more than the air I breath. Oh Kitten, you are the most important person in my life. Even more than Mochi." At hearing its name Hitoshi's one eyed demon spawn yowled from its spot on the cat tree. Causing you to laugh softly. "There's my precious Kitten. I love you. I'll try to remember you need the words too, not just the actions." He pulls you onto the couch and then onto his lap, letting you curl against his chest. He grabs one of the many throw blankets you had insisted he have on his couch. He dropped a kiss to the crown of your head causing you to look up at him, which let him kiss you fully. His hand settling on your cheek as he started to kiss you for all he was worth.

"I love you Toshi. Im sorry my anxiety got the better of me. I know you-" the rest of your words are eaten by a kiss. Hitoshi doesnt let you finsih that thought "Hush Kitten. You were hurting and needed me to help you. You are the most important person in my life." He wrapped his arms around you content to just hold you as the two of you start talking about going to visit his dads and little sister.

"How is Eri? Did she get that part in the play she wanted?" "Yeah, Dad said we have tickets to it once her class is ready to debut it to the school. Apparently Eri told her teacher that 'her sister was going to help her with her costume' you wouldnt know anything about that would you Kitten?" He asked chuckling at the blush that settled on your face. His arms tightened around you. And you settled your head against his shoulder smiling softly. Who knew that you'd go from worrying that the man you loved more than anything in this world didnt love you, to discussing taking his little sister shopping for a costume for her play. Life is such a strange thing sometimes but you wouldnt change it for the world.

Part 1

Welcome home .

This city was called Nightland . A small place edging near the southern boot of the country. Humidity and fog conquered the air most seasons. The perfect place for the pale. Except for summer, the heat was unbearable in that time . She remembered everything so well, her name was Shanae. Born in Nightland to a creole mother and absent father.

Shanae, her name was French meaning “god is gracious “. Thia, her mother , named her this because the female ancestors before her all died during child birth . She survived, seeming to have broken one of the many curses placed upon her family . Thia was left with just an older sister, Toni, who stayed back in Nightland when Thia fled to another state . Just she and her precious Shanae. Both sisters tall, fair and beautiful. Shanae inherited all the beauty, and her brown skin from her father .

There was no turning back now . Shanaes lease was up and the plane ticket was a one way. The storage shipment was already paid in full. The company made sure to highlight the huge “no refunds “ policy on the receipt.

Now an adult, Shanae could hardly make ends meet in Washington DC. She didn’t finish college , and luckily landed an administrative position at a school . She figured she’d move back to Nightland and finish school there. Her aunt Toni died three months ago, leaving Shanae a small inheritance and her house. The money was enough for her to cover her bills for a while until she got things in order.

Most of her youth was spent here , summers always . Just the three of them in Toni’s big white House. There was a sun room where Shanae would indulge in her mother’s beignets and bacon. Her aunt Toni had the biggest bathroom in her room. The tub was so big that Shanae would put on goggles and pretend it was a pool. Her favorite part of the house was the wrap around porch. She would ride her pink bike in circles while her mom sat on the porch swing and watched her . Her dad was never in the picture , just in physical pictures that he left behind when he went to start his new family.

The summer of Shanae’s twelfth birthday, her mother went missing . By age thirteen she knew her mother was dead. Only death could keep her mother from her and it was the only explanation. All that was left to her mothers memory was a gold charmed bracelet . It never left Shanaes wrist .

This was only day one of this new life . The house was dusty , empty and cold from the fall weather . Shanae lit the bundle of sage and let the ambiance capture each room.

“I renounce all evil spirits, I renounce all evil spirits” she chanted over and over as she did her walk through . Once she reached Toni’s room she stopped . She kept a candled shrine with photos of all the ancestors to the right of her bed. Right in the center of the shrine was a big brown journal. A piece of paper was taped on the front .

“Shanae, prepare yourself “

It was written in Toni’s hand writing . She was no stranger to the journal . Her delicate fingers ran over the rough cover after she grabbed it. The book was somewhat of a family heirloom . The pages were filled generational sick remedies, stories of the past and most of all , theories of the supernatural. Yes, Shanae was a believer of the unknown . It’s how she was raised . Her aunt used to tell her stories about people in the town. And most of all to stay away from certain places .

“Don’t roam to where the cypress trees are too tall. All kinds of things lurk in the darkness , looking for special girls like you”

She thought about the things Toni spoke about . Her mother, not so much.

“Not everything is bad here , I like to give people chances” her mother would say .

“And that kind of talk is going to get Shanae in trouble one day!” Toni would argue with her sister . Shanae would usually fade into the distance and travel where her curiosity led her . She was much like her mother in that way. If Toni caught her near the tall trees or out in the darkness, she would spank her good . But still, it never stopped her .

Shanae glanced at the antique wall clock , it was broken so she found her phone . The evening time was approaching and she needed to find a store. Cleaning products were nonexistent , the fridge was empty and she needed bedding that didn’t belong to a dead woman . Her storage shipment wouldn’t arrive for two more days . She found a Walmart through google , then the keys to her aunts old powder blue thunderbird .

The Walmart was huge , and seemingly the mecca for this small town . It was packed like a party . She went inside and gathered a basketful of things she needed .

“Hey?” A voice spoke from the isle she was in, Shanae spotted a girl she once knew . “Remember me?” She asked.

“Oh my god, Daphne Ray!” Shanae said excitedly. Partly because she loved that southern people had two first names . She wished her mother would have given her a true name like that . The two girls embraced with a hug .

“What are you doing here , it’s been so long” Daphne’s southern accent was just as thick as she was.

“I moved back, my aunt left me her house so... I’m-here” Shanae stuttered, she hoped that Daphne wouldnt ask about her aunt... she didnt, everybody in town already knew. It was that small.

“Glad you’re back , think we can catch up ?” She asked , attempting to jump straight back into the friendship they shared years ago .

“Absolutely, just let me kno-“

“Girl, I’m off in fifteen minutes I can ride along with you “

Before Shanae could deny the eager request, Daphne ran off. Company wasn’t exactly what she wanted tonight , but it wouldn’t hurt to have someone to talk to . Friends had never really been Shanaes thing , she found comfort in her loneliness. Especially after her mother disappeared.

After Daphne rang her items up slowly , just to kill time , the two of them left together . It was a short drive back to “my aunts house” as Shanae kept saying . She still hadn’t gotten used to the fact that the house belonged to her now.

“I always liked to come here. This big ass house , big ass yard” Daphne admired the view from the drive way . The two of them got out of the car as she continued. “ My moms little apartment with six brothers , a sister , and three bedrooms” Daphne’s voice was filled with animosity. Shanae couldn’t figure out if it was towards her own mother or the fact that she didn’t grow up the way Shanae did . At least she still had a family .

“How are you?” Shanae asked , even with the significant shift in her life she still cared .

“Still living there “ she snapped quickly.

Shanaes mom and aunt forbid her from going to Daphne’s house as a kid. She always assumed it was because they were poor and lived in a bad neighborhood. She had no shame in admitting that her family was a bit stuck up . Little did Shanae know, she was forbidden with strong reason.

“Well, how’s John? “ Shanae wanted to shift the mood by asking about Daphne’s brother. She had six, but John was the only one that held significance .

“That’s funny you asked, he moved out a long time ago . I’m sure he’d be happy to hear you’re back “

John was her first teenage love, and the boy who took her virginity . Daphne told her that he hadn’t started a family yet and was probably waiting on her . Shanae laughed, she knew John had to be over her by now.

Her aunt Toni hated John so much.

“I see how he looks at you, stay away from his black ass!” Toni would always poke at his dark skin, fighting her own internal issues . His skin was the first thing that drew her niece to him. John was almost as dark as night, so was everyone in his family . Shanae thought he was so beautiful with his broad shoulders and ivory white smile . Unbeknownst to Toni , Shanae used to sneak out while he waited around the corner in his old pick-up truck . Like most companions in the south, he was much older than her. And to those of ignorance, they saw nothing wrong with it . John waited until she was sixteen to pursue her , he was just shy of twenty three. John took his time with her , molding her exactly the way he wanted . Especially when it came to sex, he taught her everything . How to ride him with confidence. The anatomy of his dick and what felt good to him. And most of all , never to fret when making eye contact .

“I’m sure he has better things to look forward to, rather than his ex-girlfriend from a long time ago “

“You’ll be surprised” Daphne assured her. Then she snuck a “can I stay over tonight?” Question in so swiftly , Shanae didn’t have time to contest . There were five rooms for her to choose from , but somehow she chose to sleep with Shanae like when they were children . She leased Daphne a pair of her aunts old pijamas, without telling her they were hers of course .

“You’re taking over your aunts old room, you don’t get creeped out ?” Daphne asked . They were in complete darkness , Shanae felt comfort in a dark room . Any source of light wouldn’t alow her to sleep at night .

“No, you know nothing scares me . If anything spirits protect us from the bad things” Shanae felt her friend shift from the other side of the king bed .

“Here you go with that spirit shit . You still into that stuff , huh ?”

“Yes, I’m still in to that stuff... it’s real Daphne “

She quieted down for a little while , just when Shanae thought she had found peace Daphne spoke again.

“Remember that book?”

“We used to read it and scare ourselves when we were little “ Shanae laughed and rose from the bed . She found the light then geared towards the shrine . She grabbed the brown journal her aunt left behind . Once Daphne saw what she was doing , her attention was at full .

“Wow, you still have it huh”

“Yes I still have it . And my children’s children will have it just so they can learn about spirits and shit” she mocked Daphnis words from earlier . She sat back on the bed , but this time she rested closely to Daphne. She opened the book to a random page . The eight letter word was written across the top of the withered page .

Vampires

“Absolutely not!” Daphne yelled as she read along with Shanae . She laughed at her reaction , folded the outer corner of the page and closed it .

“Let me read one small part!” She was excited , that part of the journal was yet to be discovered by her. She opened the book slowly , back to the same page .

“Just one sentence , I’m not having nightmares about vampires”

Shanae read a little bit of the passage before she spoke out loud . Something about the words cut her curiosity.

“We are the only few Marters that exist , vampires and others of darkness crave our blood because it is with the purest form”

“A Marter?” Shanae spoke out loud , more to herself than her friend . She had heard the term Marter before , she just couldn’t remember the context at the moment.

“Are you gonna read it ?” Daphne asked , she noticed the way she stalled .

“You’re right , I don’t wanna give you nightmares...” Shanae closed the book and let it rest on her night stand . They both traveled to their sides. Daphne’s mind filled with anger towards her early work shift tomorrow . Shanae on the other hand , went to sleep with unanswered questions.

my uwc story

i remember reading through uwc blogs when i had just found out about uwc and when i was applying and going through all those months of WAITING for the next step...and they were so helpful. im so glad these exist

i first found out uwc through my brother’s friend, who actually went to UWC atlantic college (where im headed!!!!) a few years back. it was one ordinary saturday afternoon (idk if it was actually saturday but that sounds right) and we were carpooling with said friend (usually i dont participate in these but i happened to be in the car that day) and we were talking about next year and whatever and she just kinda said that she wasn’t going to be back next year bc she was going to this ‘abroad’ program. i didnt even really think about it that much. i in fact forgot about it after that...apparently my dad did not.

so my dad would talk about it here and there but i was NOT INTERESTED for that whole year..then...i started researching a bit myself and thought oh this sounds kind of cool. i still didn't really get what UWC even was or if was even a legit thing. it just sounded like another boarding school (a huge NO for me). then i saw that there was a such thing as a “short program” (or maybe someone actually told me about it) and i decided to apply for the one at the USA campus in New Mexico. i remember writing the essays over winter break and thinking they were pretty terrible (there was also a skype interview involved and that was rough) so i was pretty shocked when i found out i had gotten in but it worked out well bc my fam was going to arizona anyway a week before that so i just flew to new mexico myself after that (i say that casually but we had to cancel tickets and get new ones so that i could go to new mexico instead of home PLUS i had to fly for myself for the first time and i was pretty confused). (also, the program is called global leadership forum or GLF)

after hermit’s peak hike (ALL UPHILL FOR A SOLID 4-5 HOURS) i think it was like 8 miles IDK. view was so nice though 10/10

GLF turned out to be an amazing experience and really solidified my trust in UWC and confirmed to me that it was indeed a real thing. i really loved how much we did in those 2 and half weeks or so - camping, hiking, interacting w wolves, having important discussions - and it really pushed me to decide to apply to UWC for real. maybe ill talk more about it in another post!!!!

ok so coming home i did even more research and really really started liking UWC and decided that i might as well try to apply. i knew they never had a certain ‘criteria’ for students but i also knew it was a long and stressful process and involved really digging deep so i really didn’t think much of it (didn’t think i really had a chance) after submitting my written application. and then began the long waiting game...

i never joined any of those fb groups or college confidential things for applicants and good thing bc looking at some of them now stress me out so i wouldve probably been even more stressed if i had been involved in that. also i didnt even know they existed until later so thats also probably why.

anyway i had totally forgotten about UWC (more like i was sure they’d forgotten about me or there had been something wrong like my application wasn’t submitted or something) bc i didnt hear back until the end of november (i submitted the application early october). but finding out i was a semifinalist was kind of traumatic bc in my GLF snapchat group one of my friends (who’s going to Pearson this year!!!) said he’d moved on to the next stage and i hadn’t GOTTEN ANY EMAIL. i think i just accepted it that that was the end. but then a few hours passed when i finally decided to check a different email and, alas, there it was. so a few days later, i got an email from my interviewer when we should do our skype interview and it turned out to be the same day i was taking the ACT. good

the interview turned out to be completely ok and actually really great (enjoyable even!!?). if youre at that stage, seriously the best advice i have is to just chill and be honest when youre answering. also, make it more like a conversation rather than the interviewers (yes there are prob going to be more than 1 but i assure u its ok) asking u questions back and forth. think of it as a conversation- that helped me so much to relax. the interviewers just wants to talk to you and find out what kind of person you are and if youre the same one that wrote all those deep meaningful essays from the written application - so if you were honest from the start youll be completely fine...if not, well..sry

after that, school and extracurriculars and life really went up for me and i just forgot about UWC again. i never really told any of my friends about it or anyone except for my parents. i kind of wanted it to be a personal thing- get in or not in the end.

after a really good last day of school before winter break, i went to the town library (lol) and checked my phone and therE IT WAS. I WAS A FINALIST WHICH MEANT I WOULD BE GOING TO THE UWC USA CAMPUS FOR FINALIST WEEKEND. did not know what to expect

waiting for finalist weekend felt looooong

but it came

i flew there myself AND IT WASNT EVEN DIRECT and i remember feeling so independent and proud for making it. it turned out i was one of the later ones and in the last group to be bussed over (but i met a friend on the bus who i still talk to here and there who is going to RBC this yr!!). we were so late we missed the initial meeting and first night of activities and just went straight to the hotel. at the hotel i saw my interviewer and she gave me a hug (<3) and that helped calm me down and it was also really nice to see her in person bc i remember really liking her during our skype interview. then finalist weekend happened. and im pretty sure im not supposed to expose the process so all i can say was that it was actually so genuinely fun and a real good time

UWC USA <3

at the end we all exchanged social media and fb and all that and started a messenger group chat -- as nice as it was to be able to connect to everyone, i think it really stressed everyone out. they told us that results would come out early that week (FALSE). THAT WEEK AFTER FINALIST WEEKEND WAS THE MOST STRESSFUL THING EVER. IT TOOK YEARS FOR IT TO GO BY. i remember constantly checking my email between classes and everyone in the group chat wondering if anyone had heard. then on wed night, we all got an email that said the results would be notified by friday instead. the worst

i remember that friday evening i was packing for my first hackathon (it was fun) and thinking the call wouldnt come until later that night. people were freaking out all over the group chat. then, as i was scrambling packing my sweatpants into my bag, the home phone started ringing and i ran..RAN TO THE PHONE. it said my interviewer’s name on the caller ID and i was like OK THIS I S REAL. and i picked it up and it turned out i was too late so i frantically called back probably 10 times on multiple different phones (my efforts did not work). but then, i got a call to the home phone again and it was her so i picked up RIGHT AWAY and when she told me... i kid you not that i screamed and ran around my house a few times. so thats it. it was kind of a really long and sstressful process for sure, but SOO WORTH IT. i definitely learned a lot just from that process bc it makes you think and reflect a lot all throughout. weeee

if youre even thinking about applying please GO FOR IT (well as long as ur in the right age limit, 16-18.... and also make sure you’ve done some research to get a feel for it).. but just DO IT. and u can ask me questions if u want and ill answer to the best of my personal ability (but remember that im just one person and one experience and each person’s experience is completely different)

Event Report - Doll Show 53 (Early Summer Asakusa) Part 1

Last week there were two doll events in Tokyo - Doll Show and Dolpa. Dolpa was only the day after! I went to both.

Jasper came with me, mainly because I had already looked up the dealers list and knew that there would be people selling clothes made for Dearmine Beans, which are a tricky size to fit due to their big thighs not fitting standard Obitsu11 stuff unless its extremely stretchy like the leggings he’s had till now. (If you’re wondering why he no longer has blushing on his ears, long story short I screwed up glueing his magnets back in after they came out and the only way to remove them was to use acetone to dissolve the glue, which meant losing the blushing. I do plan to redo it once I get some pink pastels)

This was also my first Doll Show! I had considered only going to Dolpa, but Doll Show is an event for all dolls while Dolpa is only for Volks products, so Doll Show is a good way to see all kinds of other dolls. The event started at 11am, but tickets were being sold from 8am. In order to get a priority entry ticket and be allowed in first, you had to be there from 8...which is what I did, because I wanted to buy some stuff from Ronronshuka for a friend and since she’s so popular, her stuff disappears pretty quickly. The priority entry were tickets with random numbers on them which determined your place in the priority line - I think it was between 1-500, but it could have also been up to 900. (I forgot what I had, it was around 240 or so I think, so not bad)

Besides Jasper I’d also bought Mel’s headless body along, as I was meeting constellar (who was visiting Japan mainly for Dolpa) to get his head back with the new faceup. I will do a pic spam of him later, but he looked absolutely wonderful and I can’t get over it.

Here he is impatiently waiting in line. Anyway, Doll Show was comprised of 3 floors in the building it was in. The 7th floor had the ticket sales as well as Azone International’s booth (they do sales as well as unveil new products at Doll Show), while floors 5-6 were for the other dealers. The ‘fun’ part was they didnt want the lift going constantly up and down all morning so were discouraging anyone who didn’t actually need it to use it before 12 or so, meaning that we had to take the stairs to the 7th floor. I sure got some good exercise in this trip, anyway. What surprised me was that Azone hadn’t actually set anything up yet when we were all waiting in line - I assumed they’d do it the night before - but our position in line allowed us to watch them set up. (however, they put a barricade around the new doll displays so that no one could see them until the event started). I wondered if they’d get it done in time but they worked very quickly and it was kind of cool to see.

When it was finally time to go in, I headed straight to Ronronshuka. Even though I managed to get 18th or so in line for her stall, I still missed out on one of the things my friend asked for - luckily I got the rest. There was also a really beautiful DD dress set I wanted to get for myself which had also sold out. But it was also kind of pricey, and seeing as there was still Dollpa after this, I didn’t want to buy anything too expensive. Pics weren’t allowed until after 12 so here are some pics of Ronronsuka’s booth that I took later in the day. She honestly has the cutest displays and her custom DDs are the cutest I’ve ever seen.

The pink and white set the white-haired DD is wearing is what I wanted - I think it’d really suit Luka, but oh well.

Ronronsuka’s also come out with a line of her own wigs which look great and had me sorely tempted, but I don’t really have a use for any of them at this point. It was the first time I’d seen what Ronronshuka looks like, and she’s so glamorous! I wanted to tell her how much I love seeing her cats on instagram, but I got too starstruck. By the time I’d done my initial round of shopping and looked at everything it was past 12, so I started to take photos, starting with Azone on the 7th floor. Their product displays for new and upcoming items:

It looks like they’re making another version of the new super poseable Pure Neemo body that has proportions closer to the original, which I’m glad of. The slight chunkiness of the original body was part of the entire charm of pure neemo, so the super skinny new bodies with the ugly joints don’t interest me at all.

Kikipop’s Hoekuchi versions are also coming! I have never been that interested in the Azone versions of Kikipop because my favourite of the resin ones have always been the Hoekuchi versions, and I told myself I’d only ever consider getting one if Azone finally made them. Looks like these ones are going to be really, really cute...;; We shall see! Anyway, the 50cm girls:

Now some miscellaneous photos from other dealers! Note: I did not take photos of every single dealer as it would have taken far too long - and I also only really took photos of stuff that interested me (so not many Blythes or Pullips for the most part despite how many there were, sorry). But you can see the full list of dealers here if you’re interested. They encompassed everything from Obitsu11cm and even smaller, to the 70cm+ dolls, and there was also some guy selling wigs for 1/1 dolls.

There was a vote going on here to decide what the next face of these Petworks dolls should be. I cant remember if I voted B or D.

I’m usually not a big fan of Angelphilia but the girl in the pink shirt has a real cute face.

Obitsu unveiled their new 45cm boy body and I like it a lot. The main thing I dont like about Obitsu bodies is the ugly knees, but they’ve gotten rid of that here. It’s very promising!

Obitsus 1/6 girls are all very cute too. They have removable eyes and wigs, unlike pure neemos.

I quite like these carrying cases.

I wish I’d gotten Jasper some clothes from here too, but I’d already bought him clothes elsewhere and was trying to stay under budget.

The above two pics was a dealer selling eyes made from real gemstones. They were extremely expensive but also amazing. I couldnt really take any good photos of the eyes themselves, because my camera wouldnt focus on them properly and the lighting made them look different in the photos to IRL, which was annoying, but I tried. The dealer was wearing a waist-coat and looked like some kind of fantasy character.

The above two pics are from Good Smile Company’s booth there - they were showing off their new doll line, Harmonia Bloom. I honestly didn’t like these much at all when I first saw them online, but I think they do look better in person. However, I’m not really a fan of this kind of aesthetic. I had been hoping that they would be showing their new obitsu11-esque doll bodies/clothes for nendoroids that they showed at a previous WonderFest but unfortunately they weren’t. Still, it’s interesting that Good Smile are branching into dolls now.

I got a shirt from this booth! Although I kind of wish I’d gotten one of the short dresses to act as a shirt instead.

That condludes the dealers! Here’s what my booty for the day ended up being:

Two wigs (same style/colour, different sizes), clothes for Jasper, a shirt for Mel, heart sunglasses for Bri, shoes for Mel and also a new hat for Mel, because his current one had a really large brim that was annoying me. This hat was actually from the exact same dealer I bought that hat from last year, but the brim is a lot shorter. The next post will be the displays of the patrons dolls, which is always fun to see.

dream journal for june 21-22nd 2018

i dreamed like it was a post apoco situation where heaven and hell had like that Last battle while we were having a third world war and hell won and they had like hard reset the timeline or something where hell was just in charge and i was a student in a school and it was lunch time and you had to give up basically a whole weeks worth of food tickets to get a single decentish meal and most people did that

i had an in with the cafe workers to score more bread and while i was in this back like open to the public area me and a like temporary sibling? fellow student (i was like being family hosted by a neofuture islamic family) we saw soliders on the street and one was a human who had survived the wars and his body had been warped by the hell energy and outside was just indie lighting from the early 00s washed out and bright and sunbaked

he took off his mask to show us his fucked up face and told us secrets about the reality of the world we live in as a full demon soilder decended from the sky and grabbed him and seeing the full demon up close put me into a shock? like i woke up in this big nice bed in like the nicest part of the hospital wing in the school complex? like my host family was there and then like the highest ranking woman of the school came to see me with all her spouces and i greeted them all and like in this world like the second, third, fourth, ect spouce had specific greetings to do and one of them was impressed that i even knew these given that im not from around here Wink and my host family was uncomfortable with this like muslims in this timeline had a totally different sort of history about marriage (but the women was also being super sexual charged and there were Kids? in the room) and she made an off hand comment about like you know in A past polygamy was practiced in islam and my host mom was like well its not practised now, like i got the feel from the interaction that polygam was the norm for the world i was in and then everyone cleared out

i eventually met the headmaster dean guy? and i had gotten better and i was back in class (i remember this bit not as well) and by this point in my dream the dude was basically black hat and i was in class and we were learning something like Actual that i wish i could remember there was an actual class happening in my dream and something was happening outside like a BOMB? or something and we were in like after classes activity period and i was excused to go do stuff outside the class room and black hat basically guy joined me as we were going to grab food from the caf that was like heavily gaurded (there were three others with us like the crew from the show but they looked totally different) and he got bounced by this massive girl like a giant kid like ten feet at least tall and i like, got in through cause i knew all the lunch room based secrets at least and before we did i kissed his forehead because he was? sick feeling sick? and i wanted to see his temp and he was all like !!!???? !!!!! push me away and his face was like!! really warm and i was like what up youre not doing well lets get some soup

the others went in, in front of us and it turned out the lunchroom was going to be closed For A While and this was legit the only source of food even for the school staff so we were loading up and i was in The Know the In i left it to the other staff im p sure to get the food while the headmaster looking black hat guy turned into a tiny sphinx cat and started to puke up on top of those fold out chests where they keep the frozen ice cream stuff and i was like oh wow youre really sick hey buddy its okay like petting his wrinkly sphinix body while he puked? like i was being nice to him and it was making him like super sick and we got the food

the others were ahead of us and i used like, an aquired superpower???? to get on ahead of them just like clipped through the fabric of space time and was all like sup have our food and the guy was still a cat like i was holding him in my arms while we grabbed the food and we slipped into a class room that was watching a movie on a huge project that wasnt the one he taught like the teacher in there was flaberghasted but he was like all humanoid again and higher ranking so she wasnt going to say anything and then we started to eat (and i realize like after this dream that like hghgfj we were in a classroom full of likely starving children just eating omg) and the others had gotten me tons of food but the headmaster guy like NOTHING edfgthjk and he was like I Literally Cannot Believe Them and i was all like hey its okay we can share!! and he was all like you dont have to do that youd do that for me??? and then he knew like meta dream that i liked him geninuely and then as we were eating the dream switched

and it was like a different setting like a family of three where one of the family members had died like it was the death aniversary and the youngest child was being chased by these people and a friend of the family had grabbed her and the oldest remaining child was watching and like relieved his friend was there and then he got into this beat em up military green van and drove away and from his dream point of view she was tied up to a checkered board wall and there were knives being thrown at her and they were asking him like the secrets of the demons and he had given them something but wasnt going to tell them everything and then he put one of the pairs gun to his head and he was like something like "The sun will rise in a few moments" and shot himself with like mind powers to pull the trigger in someone elses hand and then it was like a clip cut to the news reporting on the murders on the anniversary of the other murders then i was sitting in the bleechers with a guy with a military from earlier part of my dream that had got me all fucked up wearing a mask and i had made a comment and he was like gasp there is an anonimally detected theres altering timeline stuff in your brain and i was like Anime Heh a little late for that and he was taking off his gas mask and there was a bunch of these dark tendrills like he was pulling his literal face off and that was the skin and stuff and then i woke up

this made me remember my other dream (that i had before the school in the demon world setting where i was selling stuff like a farmers market in a big yard but it was illegal or something? so another group let us all get into their van to make a get away

it was like this big party van and i had left stuff behind but the family we were with wouldnt let me go get it, and then we were like in their house? the family had two parents and kids and my mom and my brothers were there and each family member had these big rooms i felt sure i wasnt suppose to go into and there was this arcade, i saw my mom doing laundry and i felt like i had to sneak around like we werent allowed to leave but also not touch anything, the house went down into the ground and had a lot of exposed wood features a little like the one house my mom had us live in with one of her mega abusive exes

7/24/17 - MONSTA X concert experience/fan account!

i wanted to share with everyone (and for myself so ill always remember) of how my experience was with monsta x’s concert! i attended their 2nd LA date and it was my first time lining up early for a concert, and also my first time being in the pit. ill be putting everything in a bullet point list under a ‘read more’, but just know that my memory is shit and my thoughts are really unorganized. :’)

the line

my friends and i lined up around 12:30p and i was really scared bcuz of LA heat (im very sensitive to hot weather. also cold weather too.) + what were we gonna do all day waiting in line??

it actually ended up being ok cause it wasnt hot (it was cloudy, the air was cool, we were in the shade, and it even rained a little bit)

i also met up with another friend and her group in line!!

eventually our group had more people since we randomly talked to some other girls nearby us (so we were a group of 10)

waiting in line was actually enjoyable

but i definitely did not drink enough water and i only had one ‘real’ meal in the morning and survived on junk food/snacks throughout the day

i didnt feel good after the concert actually lmao i had a really bad stomachache when i got back to my friend’s place

anyways here’s some stuff i learned from other fans while waiting in line:

NO ONE LIKED KIHYUN’S PINK HAIR FROM FIGHTER ERA (i loved it tho...)

‘fighter’ is monsta x’s worst title track (some people said it was a shitty song but im being biased and am gonna say i still like it even though it’s my least fav too)

‘all in’ is monsta x’s best title track and should’ve gotten them their first win

im assuming a lot of monbebes are armys too

also... there was some guy selling unofficial monsta x shirts and a LOT of fans were buying them...

my problem with this is that on the back of the shirt it says “since 2014″, but monsta x debuted in 2015???

if it’s “since 2014″ for when the first ep of no.mercy aired?? then i guess that makes sense... but im pretty sure “since 2014″ is a mistake/inaccurate and i wish those fans didnt buy the shirt BCUZ OF THE WRONG YEAR... :///

oh and i also got a lot of freebies !!! like fans were passing out banners, fanmade postcards + photocards, etc.

the concert

security let me and some of my friend group (bcuz not all of us had P2 tickets) into the venue a little before 7p

we got a spot in the middle of the pit?? which was good, i thought, but my friends were thinking if we moved back to the P3 section we’d have a better view (bcuz once the concert starts everyone’s phones will be up lmao)

we ended up staying in our spot but as more people were coming in to the pit, it progressively got more crowded/squished (and people who werent SUPPOSED to be in the pit were in the pit too...)

but im assuming the pit wasnt that bad compared to day 1 since the pit wasnt even full (lots of space near the back) and monsta x didnt sell out their 2nd LA date

once it got closer to 8p the lights on the stage turned on and LITERALLY EVERYONE PUSHED FORWARD :(

and then monsta x had an intro video?? where it showed a picture of each member with their names and by this time i started tearing up bcuz that meant they were coming on stage soon and i was thinking “oH SHIT”

aND THEN WHEN THEY CAME OUT ON STAGE AND STARTED THE CONCERT PERFORMING “BEAUTIFUL” I WAS LITERALLY SOBBING

i was a mess honestly i was sobbing and sweating cause suddenly it got really hot in the pit HAHA

halfway through “beautiful” some of my friends turned to me and looked shocked and they were all “??? AMANDA ARE U OK???”

which i was lol but you know... i knew 100% that i was going to cry during the concert, but i just didnt expect to do it RIGHT AWAY and to cry that hard oOPS

it was probably cause i thought “wow im actually here seeing my ult bias group live and they’re so close to me and i can see them pretty well and im alive at this time bless”

but i was so embarrassed at my reaction and now whenever i hear “beautiful” ill probably cry remembering this

and i actually stopped and calmed down (they used “stop! calm down” reference a lot throughout the concert) pretty quick tho so i could jam and sing along to the next song

anyways here’s when my memory goes to shit lmao i dont remember the order/the setlist that much

but im pretty sure they performed “incomparable” before they did member introductions

and i was LIVING BCUZ INCOMPARABLE IS MY 2ND FAV SONG FROM THEIR BEAUTIFUL ALBUM

when they were doing member introductions, one of my friends wanted to get their attention so we did an arm(?) heart together

and apparently WE GOT WONHO’S ATTENTION BCUZ SHE GOT REALLY EXCITED AND SAID THAT HE SMILED AND POINTED AT US

BUT I DIDNT SEE THAT HE NOTICED US FML (idk where my attention was) T________T

but when hyungwon started talking i cheered for him the loudest/more than i did for the other members bcuz i was so happy he was there

i looked at hyungwon the most during the concert, mainly bcuz he stood on the side of the stage where i had a good view

and also bcuz hyungwon is SO BEAUTIFUL!! HE IS THE TRUE VISUAL OF MONSTA X!!

even though he was healthy enough to come to the LA shows, i think he was tired/not at his best bcuz during one performance he was sitting down on the steps of the stage and he had his hand covering his eyes :((( (idk if he was tired or if he did that to see monbebes up on the balcony better)

after hyungwon, the member i looked at the 2nd most was kihyun bcuz HAVE YOU SEEN THAT BOY????

when they sang “white love/girl” i thought i was going to cry since i always cry when i listen to it at home but after my first embarrassing cry i think i was done cause no tears came out lol

I REALLY ENJOYED ‘READY OR NOT’ AND ‘OI’ LIVE. im more of a fan of monsta x’s louder songs with the booming basslines (but of course i like their softer songs too!)

for the member unit stages, i wanted to take pics/record vids but everyone had their phones up during these times so i decided not to take pics/record anything and just enjoy the special stages

BUT I GOT REALLY SHY WITH HYUNGWONHO’S “FROM ZERO” STAGE BCUZ WONHO!!!! AAAAAAAAA

and then everyone went wild when hyungwon was kneeling(?) down and wonho touched him lmao

REALLY hoping starship will release a studio version of “from zero” on their next album or something bcuz I LOVE IT (esp the chorus)

i dont really have much to say about shownu, minhyuk, and I.M’s “24k magic” cover bcuz i couldnt see them/the stage that well but it was a fun performance i think!!

kihyun and jooheon’s “mirror” cover WAS SO GOOD??? IT WAS POWERFUL AND MY FAVORITE SPECIAL MEMBER STAGE. like the lighting for the stage, jooheon’s rapping, kihyun’s VOCALS.... all of it was perfect

also not to say that any of the members were ‘bad performers’ bcuz they’re all great, but i definitely thought that kihyun and jooheon were in general the best performers throughout the whole night

for “white sugar” the members threw candies/chocolates into the crowd and wONHO KISSED THE CANDIES/CHOCOLATES HE HAD BEFORE THROWING THEM

i didnt catch any of them but if i caught wonho’s???? not to be that fan but i probably would never eat the candy/chocolate l m a o

oh so i just remembered i didnt write anything about the VCRs, but that’s intentional bcuz i honestly dont remember anything from them....

all i remember was in one of them the members find hyungwon sitting up against the wall with his face busted and everyone in the crowd went “AWWWWW”

besides performances... what else do i remember...

there was wonho imitating the translator!!

and jooheon’s new(?) aegyo???? he didnt do the kukukaka thing but something (still cute) with his dimples :’)

and I.M sang some of that “L-O-V-E” song

also I.M asked the crowd, “do you know who the ace (member) is in monsta x?” and then he said something like, “it’s all of you! monbebe(s) are the 8th member of monsta x!” ❤

back to performances, when “shine forever” came on i tried not to laugh bcuz one of my friends’ sister said some stupid funny shit about kihyun’s part in the chorus where he goes “SHINE FOREVER YEAH YEAH YEAH”

so now whenever i hear “shine forever” i always think of what my friend’s sister said lmao. i used to not like that song that much tbh but i enjoyed “shine forever” live, it was great!

“TRESPASS” LIVE IS AMAZING; EVERYONE WAS SINGING ALONG AND DYING (INCLUDING ME)

then after they performed “fighter” they went off stage to prep for the encore so i used this time to sit down bcuz MY FEET WERE REALLY TIRED AND MY BACK HURT

glad they ended with “no exit” (one of my fav songs!!) and “5:14″, but i also dont really have anything to say about these performances lol

but wonho THREW HIS SWEATY TOWEL INTO THE PIT

AND OF COURSE I DIDNT CATCH IT SO WHOEVER DID IS LUCKY

but even if i did catch it i wouldnt know what to do with his sweaty towel (again, not to be that fan but i would never wash it and try to conserve his sweat??? sounds gross but what else would you do lmaoooo)

kihyun said they’d come back soon (PLEASE COME TO SEATTLE) and they’d go to kcon in the future

and then you know there was the streamers and confetti (they only landed near the front of the pit tho asdlnfs) and then the boys bowed 3x and said good bye to everyone :’(((

for the ending video/credits the song that was playing was “miss you” but i didnt pay attention to the ending vid bcuz i was trying to find my friend group since we all got separated/paired off while in the pit lol

they didnt perform “miss you” or “stuck” or any of the songs from no.mercy but that’s ok cause the concert was still amazing and i loved every minute of it and it was only my 2nd kpop concert i’ve been to but it’s the best :(((

my throat ended up hurting after and my voice sounded a lot lower but it was worth it !!

hitouch

before i start i just want to say i HATE MYSELF bcuz i cant express how im feeling correctly/my facial expressions dont match with what i say so through the hitouch i hoped that i was smiling LOOOOL but im pretty sure i looked shocked the entire time

k so my friend group was freaking out

“WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO SAY TO (INSERT BIAS NAME)??” “I DON’T KNOW!!!!”

when we were getting closer to the front of the line to see/hitouch the members we were all, “WHO’S THE FIRST MEMBER ALSDLA”

so the order for hitouch it was: I.M, hyungwon, kihyun, shownu <-> jooheon, wonho, and minhyuk (ill explain why i did the arrow thing for shownu and jooheon below...)

and how the hitouch was set up, the members were to your left and there was a table to separate them from the fans

i had my lightstick and a wonho paper heart in my left hand so i was doing hitouch with my right hand

I.M was wearing glasses and lemme tell you I.M IS HANDSOME AS FUCK

i had no idea what to say to him so i just said the first thing that came to mind and it was something like: “the show/you guys are so amazing!!”

and I.M smiled, closed his eyes, nodded his head, and had this really satisfied look on his face and he said thank you!!

hyungwon was next and i wanted to tell him “thank you so much for coming! please stay healthy/please take care of yourself” but all i ended up saying was “thank you so much for coming” ASLDA FUCK

then kihyun... OMG LET ME JUST SAY THAT KIHYUN IS SOOOO NICE

since i fucked up what i wanted to say to hyungwon i decided to just say “i love you” since it’s not hard to remember compared to a personalized message (even though they hear “i love you” thousands of times) + they’d understand “i love you”

but i told kihyun “i love you” and FUCKING KIHYUN... hE HIT ME WITH A BEAUTIFUL SMILE, CUTE TEETH SHOWING AND AN EYE SMILE AND HE WAS VERY HAPPY AND HE SAID “THANK YOU”

SO AFTER KIHYUN MY MIND WENT BLANK

so that’s why i dont remember if it was shownu or jooheon next IM SO SORRY AND I ACTUALLY DONT THINK I SAID ANYTHING TO SHOWNU AND JOOHEON AND I DONT EVEN REMEMBER TOUCHING THEIR HANDS FML BCUZ AFTER KIHYUN I WAS DAZED

but i remember shownu just had his normal resting face and then i do remember jooheon was smiling and i could see his dimples!!!!!

so then i think wonho and minhyuk were the only members who were sitting down, BUT WONHO WAS IN MY VIEW AND I PANICKED

cause wonho is my ult bias and... he means so much to me and there was no way i could express it in words so i quickly said, “wonho, i admire you so much i love you”

and all i remember was that he smiled at me and THAT’S OK THAT’S ENOUGH FOR ME IM FINE HONESTLY!!!

minhyuk was last and i was actually trying to rush... bcuz i kept hearing security saying to “move along” and i was the last in my friend group to do hitouch and i didnt want them to leave me behind so

i wanted to tell minhyuk “thank you for existing” bcuz this boy really makes me feel better when im feeling down and he is my source of happiness

but i think i just said “i love you” bcuz his reaction after would make the most sense if i said “i love you” to him

so i told minhyuk “i love you” and as i was trying to leave/go i could still feel his hand in mine??? like he didnt let go of my hand right away and i was CONFUSED

cause i was focusing on catching up with my friend group, but as my hand was slipping out of minhyuk’s i turned to look back aND MINHYUK’S FACE WAS CLOSE TO MINE BCUZ HE WAS LEANING OVER THE TABLE TOWARD ME AS I WAS LEAVING BCUZ HE WANTED TO SAY “THANK YOU” AND HE SMILED AND NODDED HIS HEAD AT ME

I LOVE MINHYUK WE HAD A LINGERING TOUCH!!!!!!!!!!!1

AND I DIDNT CRY AFTER THE HITOUCH/EXITING THE VENUE BUT IM CRYING NOW BCUZ THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE IS ONLY HITTING ME NOW HOLY FUCK!!!!!!!

but really though the whole day was truly amazing (i know i said this so many times asldjsal) and i had such a fun time... seeing monsta x, even though they’ll forget me, ill never forget them. ❤ being there to see them live and up close and there with friends i’ve only met for the first time + making new friends has become my most happiest experience ever. thank you so much monsta x for my life??? i love them so much. ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

How to Maximize Your Write-Offs of Travel Expenses

This article is an excerpt fromThe Book on Tax Strategies for the Savvy Real Estate Investorby Amanda Han and Matthew MacFarland.Pick up a copy from the BiggerPockets Bookstore! A scenario we see quite a bit is investors owning properties in locations where they have family and friends. It is common for someone to own property in their hometown, where their parents have retired, or invest in cities where their kids and/or grandkids live. Of course, if you own a property in a different state that is near a family member or loved one, odds are you would want to spend a few extra travel days there when visiting your property so you could have some quality time with those individuals, right? In those scenarios, how can you be sure to maximize your tax deductions as real estate investors? Lets consider some options. Real Life Example We met Dave and Denise a few years ago at one of our educational Saturday brunches. They had both retired about five years earlier and started to invest in real estate almost right away. They had always wanted to get involved with real estate, but with raising two kids and working full-time, they had never really gotten around to doing it before. They had purchased about a dozen single-family homes since their retirement and were looking to expand and buy a few more. To our surprise, Dave and Denise were not locals like most of our brunch attendees. They were actually from central California, and had driven almost five hours to Orange County to attend our brunch and sharpen their real estate skills. Related: How to Build Wealth Now, Pay Taxes Later with a 1031 Exchange Over the next year, they came to two more brunch events as well as a few real estate investor meetings (all in Orange County), and whenever we saw them, they would give us an update on their adventures and their grandchildren. It was a pleasant surprise when they called our office in late January and asked us to prepare their tax returns that year. We realized that Dave and Denise were extremely organized when we got all their documents in the mail. Every property income and expense sheet was paper clipped with its respective 1099 and mortgage interest statements. Despite their great record keeping, however, we noticed that one huge thing was missing from their paperworktravel expenses.

Dave and Denise had properties in five different states. Because they were new to real estate investing, they liked to keep track of how each of their properties was doing. It was common for them to drive back and forth between central California, Arizona, and Nevada several times a year to take care of some of their closer rentals. In addition, they drove about 450 miles round trip several times a year to attend real estate conferences in Southern California. Even though Dave and Denise did not provide us with any travel expenses, we knew they must have had some. Just based on our casual conversations with them and their attendance at our brunch events, we knew that this was a potentially big tax saving area they might have missed. We called Denise to ask whether she perhaps forgot to include these expenses. Not surprisingly, her response was the same one weve heard so many times before: I didnt know I could deduct that. We explained to Denise that any travel expenses directly related to business or real estate could be tax deductible. As long as they are visiting their rentals, scoping out new ones, or attending conferences related to real estate, pretty much all their travel related expenses could be accounted for come tax time. In short, here are some common travel expenses that can be deductible when traveling for business purposes: Car expensesTrain and airfare tickets, plus any baggage fees you incurTaxi, subway, and bus expensesReal estate and educational meetingsOvernight lodging (room service, Wi-Fi, tips, valet parking fees, even the cost of sending your suits out for dry cleaning!)Meals and entertainment (keep in mind that this is a 50% deduction, but when you need to eat out several times a day, this expense can add up very quickly) When we began to explain these rules to Denise, she was very adamant that these deductions did not apply to her. She explained that they strategically picked their rentals based on where their kids and grandkids lived. When they drove to Los Angeles or flew to Pennsylvania, they were visiting their properties and attending meetings and seminars, but they usually also took time to see their family. This is why Denise felt their expenses wouldnt be deductible. Unfortunately, this is a myth we hear time and time again. Just because you stop in to see family or friends on your way to visit a rental property, that doesnt mean the travel cost is not deductible. It is very possible to write off your travel costs, even if you take a day or a weekend to visit with family en route.

Related: 4 Different Types of LLCs and the Ways They Pay Taxes After hearing Denises reasons for not sending us her travel expenses, we explained that as long as the primary reason for their trip is business, they can deduct the associated travel expenses. Furthermore, even if the primary reason for a trip was to visit family, and she spent only a little bit of time on her rental properties, some of her travel and out-of-pocket costs might still be legitimate tax write-offs. Denise was shocked. She and Dan had been in real estate for five years and never realized how many deductions they were missing out on. She assumed that because part of their travel time was spent with family, none of their expenses could be deducted, when in reality, most of it could because the primary reason for their travel was their rentals. They often traveled if there was a problem with one of their properties, if they needed to meet someone, or they were looking for a new property. Generally, only after all the work had been taken care of would they head over to see their grandkids. What Does This All Mean? Contrary to popular belief, the IRS is not as terrible as one may think. A lot of loopholes are written into the tax code that taxpayers are invited to use. As you can conclude from Dave and Denises story, the IRS does allow tax deductions even when business travel includes certain personal benefits. As long as the primary purpose of a trip is business related, you may still write off certain travel expenses. Many times, weve heard investors complain about not wanting to keep track of car and other travel costs because doing so is a hassle. However, by putting certain systems in place, your record keeping can be highly automated. Once you start really tracking your business expenses when you travel to take care of your properties, you will see how quickly they can add up. Remember, a penny saved is a penny earned, so hold on to your hard-earned money.
