The great birthday mess up : Damian Wayne x Reader

Request: Yes! Reader planning a surprise party for Dami and him thining she's going to break up with him so he does it first.

„I don’t understand…” the words coming out of Damian’s mouth was the perfect example that hearing and getting were two completely different things.
“What’s there to not understand Y/N?. I’m breaking up with you. Sounds pretty simple even for your little brain.” He shrugged and turned to the window in their shared apartment so she wouldn’t see the strain on his face and clenched fists.
“But-“
“Please don’t go all whiny on me now. Just take my decision with dignity.
“I don’t understand—” she said again, as if that was the only sentence she could say in shock coursing in every cell in her body.
“Of course you don’t.” the tone he was giving her was ruthless, unlike the rapid beat of his heart calling her name with all the emotional power it could gather.
“Don’t you love me anymore?” as pathetic as it was, she almost downgraded herself to begging for an explanation with that sentence
“I’m just breaking up with you! Now will you leave me alone? I really do not want to see your face anymore.”
Well that was true, cause seeing her sad face was making his resolve crumble.
And It hurt. It hurt to tell her all those mean things.
Especially because Damian did not even wantto act like an asshole.
He did love her like a fool, he used to laugh at. If anything, he could just fall at her feet (as long as no one  saw) and beg to forgive him.
But he couldn’t.
He couldn’t because she was the one who stopped loving him first.

Three weeks ago, “command center” at Wayne Manor.
“Ok, people, listen up! We’re on a mission of-“
“Is she for real?” Tim whispered turning to Dick who was holding back a laugh. If the boys knew that Y/N would take planning Damian’s 24th birthday in such a serious manner, almost putting on a war paint, one of them would bring a fancy camera to memorize it.
Instead it was only Jason taking photo after photo of the girl-in-command in her makeshift uniform and with indicator in hand.
“Get it off my face Todd!” she cried out trying to shove him off, but failing at dealing with the brick Jason was.
“Not a chance. You look ridiculous. And all that for the demon’s spawn? My god! He doesn’t deserve you.”
“Careful or I’ll think you’re telling me a compliment.”
“Compliment? No, no. It’s merely an observation of your poor choice in men. Both your boyfriend and those gathered here…”
“HEY!” Dick reacted almost immediately. No way he was going to let anyone, even his adoptive brother shit-talk him “I beg your pardon! I believe Y/N has an exquisite taste in men!”
“Just because you are here?” Jason mocked, giving Dick a smirk.
“Oh-my-god….” Y/N rolled her eyes throwing hands in the air “Could you please stop that…? I got a whole presentation about ideas for the party and –”
“A presentation?” While Dick and Jason did not give the girl any attention, at the mention of possible slides Tim became awfully animated. “What kind of slides? How many?”
“Oh-my-god…” She muttered again, this time covering face with hands gathering herself “God give me patience for those man-children.” One deep inhale and exhale on her part and she was ready to proceed. “SHUT UP!!” she yelled at the top of her lungs “SHUT UP ALL OF YOU!”
None of the men has ever seen her like that. Reddened on the face with fury in eyes and clenched fists. Clearly just a thought of Damian was making her spin out of control.
“Y/N--?”
“I’m about to tell you how it’s going to go from now on.” She hissed with an unobjectionable tone. “First, you’re going to sit on your pretty asses.” her gaze travelled to Dick knowing the attention in this particular moment will make him listen “Second, you’re going to stop throwing veiled insults.”
“But-“ Jason tried to chime in and object.
“I don’t fucking care if your inner Chandler Bing is coming to voice, you shut it or I will.”
“I’m not scared of you Y/N. You are just a –”
In a blink of an eye she was next to him, with one finger on his neck.
“You got about 100 vascular plexus in your body and so it happens I know how to put pressure on all of them.” She hissed before pulling back and taking on an innocent look “now, will you keep quiet, Jason?”
“I’m still not scared…” he muttered leaning on the doorframe with a frown and pout of a kicked puppy.
“Thank you very much. As for the plan, thirdly, you’ll stop asking me about my PowerPoint thing and actually watch it.”
“I’ve been dying to watch it the whole time!”
“ Shut up Tim!” came from three pair of mouths.
“Hey! Why am I being the only one yelled at by everyone? It’s harassment! Not fair!”
Y/N exhaled deeply, making a mental note to herself to never get those boys in men bodies in one room ever again and started explaining the details of her surprise party. Clearly, even despite knowing Damian’s family for a while she did not expect it would be this hard to get boys to cooperate.
However, per aspera ad astra, she managed to present her idea of a gift, the attractions and all the surprise party.
Obliging the boys under the  pain of sudden and unexpected death, or at least mutilation, to keep their mouths shut.  And since she was the girlfriend of a teenage assassin – this time no one dared to say a word.

Obviously the surprise party included working on it undercover. Therefore Y/N was spending more time with Jason, Dick and Tim to the detriment of her hours with Damian. Sneaking around. Dismissing or getting off lightly of answering his questions.
And he got suspicious, it was Damian Wayne Al-Ghul after all.
The young boy, spend hours and days fighting his natural urge to follow her when she was walking out the apartment with no explanation. Tie her to the chair, light the lamp in her face and force the information out of her.
But she was his girlfriend, not a villain.
So, getting too much into his head he came out to one plausible explanation – she was slowly letting him down. Not cutting the tie right away, because that was not who she was, but discouraging him.
“You’re going out again?” he asked, capably hiding the disappointment seeing her putting on shoes and jacket.  Quickly he put the bouquet of flowers he bought for her behind his back, almost crushing the innocent buds, while simultaneously wondering if calling off reservation at her fav restaurant for the fourth time this month would get him kicked out of the VIP list. “I thought we could have a night out and—“
“Sorry, babe.” She smiled apologetically pecking his lips, grabbing the bag and already one foot out the door. “I gotta go do this thing that I told you about!”
“What thing---”
“Don’t wait for me, I’ll be back late. See you around buddy!”
Buddy?!
Did she just--? Holy fucking shit. Now Damian was sure, she stopped loving him.
And since he couldn’t watch her walk out his life like that, it was him, who was going to walk out of hers.

She run.
She run as fast as she could, hoping that if by some miracle she got into Flash’s speed the last fifteen minutes conversation with Damian would just turn out to be a dream. Or maybe she’ll find herself back in time, making sure it never happened in the first place.
What did she ever do to him to be treated like that?
Working her ass off to prepare a party? Using all her abilities to get people to help? Miraculously finding Damian’s friends from the past and even getting Jon to attend?
Fuck this shit! Fuck the life!
And out of all day’s in year he choose his own birthday to break up with her!
Fucking piece of shit, demon’s spawn, undeserving of a single second of the last 6 years she gave him.
Jason was fucking right as tragic as it sounded.
She burst into the Wayne Manor, where the boys were hanging the last decorations and immediately started ripping the garlands off and throwing tableware off the table.
“Y/N!!” Dick jumped off the ladder and rushed her direction, but it was Jason who reached her first. Almost tackling her to the floor, fighting against the rage of nails, teeth and screams coming out of her mouth.
“Stop it!”
“LET FUCKING GO OFF ME! THIS PARTY AIN;T HAPPENING UNLESS IT’S OVER MY DEAD BODY!”
“Better be careful with those words, cause in this family you get more than one chance at life.” Jason chuckled
“LET FUCKING GO!” she was struggling against his iron grip while Dick and Tim kneeled next to them
“No.” Jason responded calmly. “No, I’m not letting go off you.”
“None of us do, Y/N.” Tim added, moving a little bit closer, careful to not get a shoe in his face or something like that.
“What happened?” Dick asked calmly “come on, it can’t be that bad…”
“He broke up with me…” she sobbed. Not angry or furious anymore, but fully immersing in sadness. “Damian broke up with me…”
“HE WHAT?!” Dick yelled almost ready to start ripping off the decorations himself, successfully held back by Tim slapping him in the back of his head.
“She just told you. Can’t you see how shaken she is. And your making her say it again just for the sake of it? Get yourself together, Dick.”
“Sorry…”
“I don’t know what happened! I tried to talk and—”
“Talking to Damian about feelings, huh! Great idea Y/N.”
“GRAYSON!” Tim yelled slapping him again.
 “Sorry…”
“I hate to break it to you guys, but it seems like the man of the day has just arrived.” Tim moved to the window where he saw the reflection of the car lights.
“WHAT!?”
“Don’t yell at me! Bruce brought him! It was your plan Y/N!!”
“Oh so one time Bruce could be late he’s actually on time?!”
“Again-stop yelling at me!”
“He cannot see me here! Not like this! Not crying cause he’s going to think that I –“
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAMIAN!
“—care….”
The ending of the sentence was not supposed to escape her mouth, but not caring about her intentions it did. Maybe it was the shock of Bruce entering Wayne Manor with his youngest son, almost convinced the surprise party was already prepared and they could celebrate.
Instead the two were met with four people, caught like deer in the headlights, crying y/n, Jason on the floor holding her for comfort, enraged Dick and a little scared Tim without a plan.
As far away from their usual selves as possible.
“Are we too early or—” Bruce started, but before he could finish the sentence, the nearby ladder started to totter, hooking over the poorly hanged b-day banner and –
“NO!!” Dick yelled and rushed towards it, but tripping over Jason’s leg, fighting desperately to gain back balance and stepping on Y/N’s hand in the process. She yelled and it scared Tim who took a step back, crashing into Dick. Seeing all that Jason rushed to his feet trying to catch the material that was already falling down, dangerously close to the table and the candlestick. In the commotion no one noticed Alfred the cat, who obliviously entered the room, only to almost be flattened.
As the poor animal rushed to Y/N’s side, making her reach arms to give cat some resemblance of shelter, Dick finally managed to grab the banner.
“I got it! YES! Once more I am the one to save the day and--- AH!” he slipped on the floor cause clearly Alfred the cat left a remnants of his fear there, sliding all the way up to the table.
“NO!” Y/N yelled trying to save any of the dish that was already flying to her face.
“NO!” Jason cried out trying to snatch the decoration, getting tangled in it.
“NO!” Tim shrieked as the candled set the tablecloth on fire, that quickly spread to the leg of his trousers. And as the stimuli activated already downloaded plan in his brain, he reached for the extinguisher, profusely spraying everything (and everyone) with white powder.
Disaster.
Y/N, Dick, Jason and Tim were now all on the floor. Dirty, injured and/or humiliated, turned into giant, living, walking snowmen all on Bruce and Damian’s eyes.
“Not again….” Bruce whined.
“Happy birthday Damian!”
“SHUT UP GRAYSON!” the rest of three organizers yelled getting off the floor feeling worse than ever.
“What is all this?” Damian asked with a slight frown. “Or rather… what was all of this.”
“This is your—” Dick started
“AHHHHH!”
“Y/N, we know you are frustrated but please try to calm down—”
“This was supposed to be your stupid birthday party you idiot!” she yelled stumping towards Damian “Hear me?” he poke a finger into his chest. “Your. Stupid. Birthday. Party.”
“My- my what?” Damian stuttered grabbing her wrist only now realizing what day it was. Honestly after the morning break up with Y/N he couldn’t care less about the clock or calendar.
“Your—”
“Wait, wait. Hold back. Is this why you were acting so suspicious?”
“sus-suspicious? Is that what you thought?” her eyes grew wide once more and the steam to hit him blew off instantly
“You were just planning and preparing a party?” Damian asked realizing how much of an idiot he was.
“Yes”!
“So you didn’t stop loving me?” the hint of hope showed up in his eyes
“So you did not stop loving me?” Y/N repeated.
“How could I ever—”
She never gave him a chance to finish that sentence pressing her lips to his, not caring who was watching. And if anyone dared to tease, Damian’s katana would be used for something. And the knowledge of locations of nerve plexuses in the human body.
“Um….” Tim muttered feeling a little awkward in the situation. “Should we--?”
“Mhm. We should.” Dick agreed and noiselessly, like silently as befits a vigilante they fled the room.

Meanwhile, Damian and Y/n were sitting on the window sill amongst the mess of a b-day party.
“I’m sorry it didn’t work out the way I planned—” she sighed.
“You kidding? It was the best thing ever.”
“Because you got the gift in clearing the misunderstanding between us?” she smiled and interlaced their fingers.
“no! because of watching my brothers making fools out of themselves.”
“Damian!” she patted his head.
“OUCH! Ok, fine! Fine! It was because I got you back!”
“This was forced, such confession doesn’t count!” she feigned offence.
“Well technically, we never really broke up, so I couldn’t get you back.”
“Well, technically-“ she tried to find a smart way of the situation, but he cut her off.
“Well, non-technically, you got cake in your hair. And on your face And in your lips. And I haven’t even tried that treat. So how about we stop talking so I could get a chance at it?”
He liked the cake.
A lot.

How would Jason Todd (Titans) react to his best friend writing fanfiction?
AH, okay. First of all, thank you for this. Easily one of the funnest things I’ve written in awhile (but I always have fun with your requests, let’s be real) and my askbox is currently empty, so you are doing a civic duty by asking!

That face. That face right there is the exact expression he’s going to make after he asks what you’re writing about when you start to explain what it is you’re doing.
I feel like he’d probably alternate between a couple of different reactions, but every single one is going to end with him (affectionately) teasing you.
But don’t let him lie, he actually thinks it’s pretty neat and if you happen to get a kudos left on ao3 at two in the morning from a user by thebestrobin it totally wasn’t him, alright? Yes, it was.
And as a fun little bonus, I’m really high on the idea of any canonverse fandom. Tim Drake is proof and I will die on that hill.
So, if anything you write pertains to him or the Titans in some way, he’s simultaneously going to double down on his teasing and get really invested.
I wouldn’t say that, you’re making me sound like a dumbass!
Jason. Honey, sweetie, baby. You kind of are.
Offense taken.
Not really.
He will sit quietly with you while you’re writing, whether throwing around headcanon ideas or working on a new chapter. At some point, his attention will shift from whatever he’s doing to read over your shoulder.
He will ask a lot of questions. Like, so many questions. And at a certain point it’s less that he doesn’t understand and more about him wanting to see into the world of your writing from your own perspective.
He’ll occasionally throw his own ideas out there! If you’re out and you see something that sparks his imagination, he’ll turn to you and say something like hey, imagine x character with so-and-so
It gets added to the next chapter and he gets so giddy when he sees that an outsiders idea has been accepted into your writing! He’s all smiles, feeling very proud of himself for it.
He’ll be your beta reader! He doesn’t know what a beta is, but he’ll ask to see your rough drafts before it’s posted and Jason being Jason, doesn’t stop himself from correcting any spelling errors. It happens to the best of us.
All your titles come from him. He’ll read it, before volunteering random song lyrics to go by.
He makes an effort to learn more about whatever fandoms you write about. He’ll take the time to watch movies, tv shows, whatever it is, and make a lot of mental notes to keep up with you when you spiral into a hyper-manic, fanfic writer tangent.
He loves hearing all of it. And if you’re the kind of person that prefers physically writing something down to get the creative juices flowing before actually typing it into your next masterpiece of work, he’ll randomly buy you journals and so many pens you end up with a whole collection of them.
Little references from your fics get plucked out as inside jokes between the two of you. Whether it’s a phrase or an action, character behavior. It gets brought up between the two of you constantly.
And Dick is confused every single time he hears it.
Kory asks if that’s just a human thing, because it doesn’t make any sense??
Dick tells her it’s not a human thing, it’s the side effect of sharing one brain cell.
Which makes it funnier for Jason to incorporate more references that only the two of you understand into totally normal conversations.
He’s a total sucker for seasonal prompts. He doesn’t know what it is, but he never had a proper Christmas and Halloween is a nightmare when you’re a little kid, all alone on the streets of Crime Alley, so when the holidays roll around and you start writing fluffy pieces about carving pumpkins and baking cookies, rainy days curled up by the fire, he adores it.
You’d find him, burrowed under his blankets, head barely poking out in a mess of curly hair, scrolling through his phone. He wouldn’t tell you what he’s doing, but it becomes clear when he rolls over after several minutes and asks you to post a part two.
All in all, Jason is a menace, but he’s the most supportive best friend anyone can ask for and very easily converted into the worlds biggest fanboy for your writing exclusively. He actively reads your works, but doesn’t really stray to other fanfics, because it’s just not the same.

Pregnant s/o (Preferences)
Requested by the amazing and breathtaking @ravennightingaleandavatempus​: If your asks are still open how would the batboys be around a pregnant S/O.
A/N: Also just wanted to mention that none of these boys would be having gender reveal parties with explosives or anything else dangerous (or in general) because they have brain cells

Dick
Okay so that might be a repetitive motive in this, but he’ll crank up his protectivness by just about 100%
But first things first
When you find out that your pregnant and you tell Dick he’ll be so over the moon
like he’ll want to throw the biggest party to celebrate because HE IS GETTING LITTLE GRAY-SONS OR DAUGHTERS (see what I did there) 
He’ll definitly brag in front of his siblings and everyone else he knows because HE HIT THE JACKPOT
Honestly will definitly read up a lot on how to be a good dad and would go and ask Alfred or Louis for advice (He’ll rather be caught dead than ask Bruce for advice cause he wants a lot for his futre child(ren), but he definitly doesn’t want them to become the way he and his siblings are now)
He would fully induldge in your cravings and other pregnancy things
you want cucumber pizza with nutella instead of tomato scauce? Guess who’ll be down at the cornor store getting the ingredients
You’re feet hurt and you’re cranky?
Dick will move heaven and earth to make you comfortable and give you a massage
He won’t go out on patrol too much during your pregnancy because the thought of you being left behind alone if something happened to him was too much for him to take
And like I said he’ll get very very protective
You won’t go out alone to any dangerous Gotham areas anymore
No more heavy lifting either
Also he might as well pick you up and move to the manor because there Alfred is there to cater to your every need
Let’s just say it will be an interesting 9-10 months....
Jason 
Okay so Jason isn’t quite sure about having kids
He knows that he is a cesspool of trauma and he isn’t sure if he’d be the best choice to raise other human beings
So when you come to him all excited and tell him that you think you’re pregnant he’s torn
He’ll try not to show it, but it’s quite obvious 
It’s not that he’s not happy, but still
After that it will be a bit tense at home until you had a doctors appointment that really confirms that you’re indeed carying a little Todd
Jason was there with you and you were almost scared how he’d react but in a twist of fate when he found out he immediatly started smiling and kissing you
Because that made it real in more ways then one
YOU WERE GOING TO HAVE A LITTLE BABY YOU MIXED WITH A BABY JASON
Jason knows no matter how fucked up he is, you’re going to be the most amazing mom that could ever be and you’d make sure that he’d be the most amazing dad possible too
Now Jason isn’t as quick to adapt to your pregnancy as Dick is
He’d definitly pour you coffee a few too many times before realizing that you weren’t allowed to drink cafeein
But he would manage soon enough
If he’s smoking at that moment he’ll definitly stop
He will not risk your little ones life no matter how much he like to smoke
na-huh no way
Also he is even more protective than Dick
He knows that Gotham is a dark place
so either he’ll too get you to a safe place where he can take care of you and your future pumpkin
Or he’ll just straight up move to canader or something where there’s no Joker who’d be near enough to bomb up a block when you were in it
Again, interesting times are coming
Tim 
Timothy will be - no matter how much Dick reads - the most prepared, hands down
Because let’s not forget he’s one of the smartest Waynes (even though the other’s aren’t far behind)
When he started noticing that you’re acting weird he’ll loook it up and he’ll figure out that you’re pregnant sooner or later
He’s a very attentive s/o and he pays attention to you
So he’d probably actually be the one to tell you that you’re pregnant
But once it’s actually confirmed he’ll also be the chillest one
He looked up everything he has to know and made spreadsheets and lists and documents for what to do in literally all possible situations so he’ll be realitivly relaxed
But that doesn’t mean he isn’t also just a little bit overprotective
But just a little bit
He’ll let you do your thing as long as it isn’t dangerous or medically seen unclever
But he’ll also be there for you to cater your needs and your cravings, etc.
He also tries to stop drinking coffee, but he fails
He tones it down tho, but still you won’t get rid of the smell of coffee in your apartement
Now if you ever even mention wanting a sip he’ll hide every last gram that contains caffein in a place only he will find it
(It’s probably hidden somewhere really obvious where you’ll definitly find it but you’ll let him believe he managed to hide it well) 
Tim will be the one to start falling into the baby fever the most
will go on online shopping sprees for baby clothes and furnitere and baby proof everything five months before the due date would arrive
Will also write very long lists with possible baby names (from which like 1/3 are references but I digress)
All in all this would possible be the most ’normal’ pregnancy
Damian (aged up obviously)
Okay so Damian is definitly a thing
He wasn’t conventionally raised or even anything close to that
I mean we all know how he was concieved soooooo
But - just like with everything else - he’ll want to be the best possible father (and s/o) there could ever be
So be fucking prepared for a wild ride
When you tell him you’re pregnant he is full with pride about his presticious bloodline to be continued with the added advantage of you 
He’ll definitly annoy his siblings more than Dick could ever 
And he’ll start making “jokes” about how he was going to be a better dad than Bruce
He will never mention anything like that to Alfred tho, it’s the opposite actually, he’ll come to him with pen and paper and ask for advice 
Will boast that he had a child first to Jon and that his child will be better than Jon’s if he will ever have one
Also he’ll actually tell Talia about his future offspring and her grandchild, but only to tell her that if she was ever to endanger you or your future little one he’ll not hesitate to end her life
So yep there’s that
He will want you to stay in the manor like Dick would because there you’d be protected by a lot of vigilantes and money
lot’s of money
He’ll also be the one to - while he’ll try to do his best to take care of your need - ask Cassandra to help you
She’ll be overjoyed and (in a not completely hidden quest to become the godmother of the child) will become your shadow
Not in an annoying way 
She’ll be there to help you with everything Damian can’t and she’d definitly organize a girls day where you and all of her other sisters go out and buy baby things
Also Damian may or may not want to name the child Damian Junior, but you’ll definitly keep him from doing so 
All in all he’s actually somewhere in the middle between his other brothers, but it’s a nice balance

How do you think Steph would have reacted if Tim had died when he fought Ra's? Sad? Angry? Would never date again?
I think she would feel very very very confused. A story where they never laid things to rest. Where they never got to sit down and talk about what they went through. Just guilt and regret and whiplash from not being able to tell if you still loved each other anymore. A giant fat what if that some freak took away for the sake of ego...
Hmm. Have half a meta half a fanfic anon. Here's what I would have liked to have happened...
Here is what Steph - aka you - knows in the run up to that confrontation with Ra's.
Tim and you have had a very bad falling out. You were stupid, trusted the wrong people, and you hurt Tim, in every way. And now, despite Tim openly stating and at times showing his affection for you, he does not trust you. If he ever trusted you to begin with. He tells you he is going to leave Gotham, tells you not to be Spoiler anymore, then for an unknown length of time, does not speak to you.
No-one has given you the time and space to talk about it. Tim won't stop for you. He won't wait.
You don't know if you still love him anymore either. But he matters. More than most anyone.
Dick comes to you, the first time you've spoken one on one, and says Tim is not well, won't accept help, won't speak to anyone. For some reason Dick trusts you to be the one to make a crack at Tim. You finds him easily, instinctively knowing where he's holed himself up.
He kicks you, rejects your help (rejects you), refuses to let you touch him, bemoans how much he wishes he could trust you (well if he wants it why doesn't he?), then leaves Gotham. It's too fast and frantic, he won't let you get a word in. He leaves Gotham. Leaves his home. Leaves you.
Radio silence. You don't know if he's even alive, let alone where he went. You throw yourself into the Batgirl suit that Cass left behind. You don't stop to think about what you did, what he's done.
You see Tim when you're doused with fear gas. He stabs you. Wonders why he ever loved you.
You try not to think about why you saw Tim.
Then he comes home for real. And the first person he finds is you.
You, the girl who has been working her ass off to redeem herself, to be better.
And he's... the exact same. He insults you, calls you useless, won't let you touch him. He hits harder, fights faster, and still won't talk to you. You think about that gentle boy who used to sit and do crossword puzzles with you. How much of this is your fault?
You try and correct that, in the only way you know how - being a pain in the ass.
And it works. A little. He teases you back, he smiles (genuinely), he admits he lost his way. He reaches for your hand. He says he's proud of you (does he trust you yet?) and then he -
Does something stupid.
You both tend to be stupid around each other. It's like you sap each other of brain cells. The moron tried to kiss you.
You don't think about how much you wish you had let him. Not good for you right now. That was smart of you.
Doesn't mean not good for you forever... right?
And then things are moving too fast you wish he'd just slow down and talk to you but he's acting like the city's about to collapse but he won't tell you anything and -
Does he still love you? He said he did. But then he left. You don't leave people you love. You don't have to love the people you kiss. You know that very well.
Does he trust you? He's never trusted you.
You need to talk to him.
He just came home and you need to talk to him.
He won't wait to chat though. He sends you on your way after you save his ass. The ricochet is pretty amazing actually Tim, as much as he denies it. You still don't really understand what's going on. League of Assassins want to hurt people Bruce and Tim love (you're on that list - why are you on that list?) so you go and defend someone you've never met (oh and Vicki too) and who even is Tam Fox? Where'd she come from does she know Tim well does she know about Robin does she -
Wait.
What do you mean Tim's engaged? To Tam? Who even is this girl?
Wait.
What do you mean Tim's dead?
Wait.
He lost? No. He doesn't lose. He'd only die if he wanted -
Wait.
You need to talk to him. You need to lay everything to rest. Does he love you? Does he trust you? Has he forgiven you? Have you forgiven him?
He's only just come home.

Can I get a 3 and a 10 with Marinette parents being some what salty and believing Lila and when the learn the truth they try to get her back from the kents and Bruce is like 10 to them cause he is her godfather now
3-  “Please don’t walk out that door.” 10- “I won’t let you.”
Disclaimer: I have no idea how transfer of guardianship works. Please bear with me here- half of what I wrote doesn’t make sense to myself, but I wasn’t really sure how else to fulfill the prompt.
TW: Mentions of emotional abuse.
They gave her up.
They willingly signed the papers that would temporarily transfer guardianship of her over to Clark and Lois.
Marinette expected them to, of course, but experiencing it for real was still a stinging slap to the face, no matter how horrible her parents were to her.
“Come on, Mari.” Jon’s hand is gentle on her shoulder, and his big blue eyes are looking down at her, even though she’s two years older. “Let’s go home.”
The flight back to the Kents’ apartment in the Metropolis couldn’t have been shorter. Clark and Lois give her time to unpack, but if she was being honest, there wasn’t really anything to unpack that wasn’t already present in the guest room that had slowly become hers over the last few months.
As the situation with her biological parents got worse (helped along by a certain liar), Marinette had simply stopped spending time in Paris, instead teleporting more and more to Titans Tower to hang out or train. 
Jon, who had declared himself her brother a year prior, noticed, of course. He was the first, but everyone did after the first month. Damian got his father to jumpstart the process of removing her from her parents’ care, and in the meantime, Clark and Lois offered her the guest room.
Marinette takes the last item out of her pink backpack- a photo of her, Tom, and Sabine at the kitchen counter, taken by Nonna Gina. She's young in this picture, maybe seven or eight, and her face is frozen mid-laugh, entire body coated in flour from a bout of clumsiness. Tom and Sabine are laughing with her.
She stares at it until she feels like she’s on the verge of developing heat vision, then tears the photo in half, separating Tom and Sabine from her.
The part with two people goes into the garbage, and the laughing girl is pinned to her bulletin board.
Healing takes time, and sometimes, it feels as if she has all the time in the world.
She has a support system now- a brother, people that are more like parents than her real ones, a team at her back, and her godfather is the freaking Batman.
Yep. Bruce Wayne, the richest man in the world, who dresses up as a giant bat at night to terrify Gotham’s worst into wetting themselves, declared himself her godfather, and really, who’s going to say no to Batman?
Damian and Jon suspect that he’s just irritated that Clark claimed the newest black haired, blue eyed child with a tragic backstory before he could.
Healing takes time, and she has so much time.
Slowly but surely, she heals, and moves on, with a new family and newly forged bonds that are already so much stronger than the ones she had with her blood relatives ever were.
Then, everything goes to shit again.
Tom and Sabine finally learn that Lila was lying, that everything she was accused of doing were just that- mere accusations. They come to Metropolis, knocking on their apartment door while Bruce and Damian are over for lunch.
“I’ll get it.” Marinette offers, then freezes when she opens the door and sees who’s on the other side.
She doesn’t react, rooted in place by Tom and Sabine’s stares, until she hears Jon from the dining room. “Mari? Is everything alright?”
Instead of a verbal response, she taps her finger against her thigh frantically in Morse Code. T-O-M A-N-D S-A-B-I-N-E. H-E-L-P.
The message must be relayed pretty fast, because everyone is crowding behind her back in an instant.
She doesn’t remember much of the actual argument between her biological parents and her chosen ones, only that she snaps to attention when Sabine speaks her name.
“Marinette.” She says coldly, with a sense of finality. “Come with us. You are going home now.”
Her brain screams no, that Metropolis, the Kents, are her home, and that Paris was nothing more than a cage, but her body, still terrified of the consequences (they never laid a hand on her, but your own parents believing you over a liar and the subsequent emotional and verbal abuse leaves its mark), starts to follow, feet stepping forward until another voice, one that isn’t Clark or Lois, rings out.
“Please don’t walk out that door, Marinette.” The voice is so different, yet the exact same as Batman’s low growl as Bruce Wayne’s blue eyes bore into her soul.
“Nonsense.” Tom snaps. “She is our daughter. We have every right to take her back.”
“I won’t let you.” 
Despite it obviously being a response to Tom’s statement, Marinette gets the feeling that those words were directed at her instead.
The billionaire pulls out a cell phone, dialing a number. “Hey, Tim? Yeah, do me a favor. Are Tom Dupain and Sabine Cheng currently in the clear to take back their daughter?” A pause. “Okay then. I see. Mhm. Thanks, Timmy.”
He hangs up and glares at the couple. “You’re not legally authorized to remove Marinette from Clark and Lois’ care.”
A strong but loose hand comes to rest on her shoulder. “Lois and I see Marinette as our own daughter.” Clark says calmly, his words filling her with warmth. “If you want to take back guardianship, we will fight for her.”
“And they’ll have Wayne Enterprises’ legal team at their back.” Bruce chimes in, and she can’t help the smile that splits her face there.
“We’d actually like to make that guardianship permanent.” A smirk curls across Lois’ lips, and Marinette is reminded of why this woman has gone toe-to-toe with death so many times and made it out alive. “It doesn’t have to be settled in court, but if you wanted to test that, I’m sure we could arrange for it to happen.”
Marinette decides that she’d like to add her own piece. “Oh, yes, please do. I’d love to testify against Tom and Sabine in court.” She smiles, the damage done to her just by their presence already being fixed by the steady support behind her.
They visibly flinch when Marinette addresses them by their names and not ‘Maman’ and ‘Papa’ like she used to. Good. That’s nothing compared to how she felt in those last few months.
Sabine smiles, though it doesn’t reach her eyes. “That will not be necessary. Have a nice day.”
And with that, she and her husband turn around and walk away. Damian takes the opportunity to slam the door and make sure all of the locks are secured before sniffing, scrunching his nose up in disgust.
“The nerve of them!” He seethes. “How dare they come here and pretend nothing is wrong to try and take her back!”
“Thank you.” Marinette says to Clark and Lois. “You didn’t have to pretend that you wanted to adopt me though.”
“Who said anything about pretending?” Lois replies easily, and the beam that splits Marinette’s face is like a blinding ray of sunshine as she flings herself forward into her family’s arms.

Radio Silence
Summary: You take Tim with you to a family reunion hoping to monopolize his time. You may have forgotten to tell him a few things. For example, the haunted radio.

a/n: I’m sorry for the wait. I forgot that I am no longer used to describing atmosphere. This isn’t my best work but I hope you like it. This was based on my family’s tradition of sitting in the dark on Halloween listening to scary stories on the radio. This is mainly Tim Drake x Filipino!Reader because I realley wanted to try my hand at a bilingual character. You will see misspelling of words in the dialogue. That’s intentional on my part. There will be translations.
“Yes, Nay, he’s the one in the picture,”
“No! It’s the guy with-” You blow out an exasperated breath. You hear Tim snicker behind you and you dedicate half your brain cells to coming up with the best way to kick his ass.  “Yung mukhang Koreano. Yeah. Yeah. Dat one.”
“Yes, he looks more like a white boy. Mistiso.” You explain curtly.
“Yes, he’s smart. I hab standards,” Tim raises a disbelieving brow at you. You stick your tongue out at him but nearly bite it off when your grandmother speaks again.
“What do you mean doubtful?!” Tim looks absolutely delighted. A cheshire smile curling on his lips as he leans back into your couch. You glare at him then at your phone then at the ceiling then past that to glare at whatever god was up there.
“THAT WAS ONE TIME! Justine was an-” You mutter trying to remember the word.  “- an anomaly and you know it!”
“…..”
“Ok der were 2 anomalies!”
“3”
“Ok maybe Tim is the anomaly, but seriously, Nay, he’s fine,” You snarl, the jaggedness of your Gotham accent rearing its head. You wince but do not apologize. This will bite you in the ass later but you didn’t say it. You don’t like the taste of the word.
“No. I mean if you don’t want us to embarrass you at the church social then- Yes, I have been going to church,” You can see Tim rolling his eyes and mouthing liar with a twitch of his lip in the corner of your vision. “No, he’s not the showy type. Nay, I gotta go. The food’s burning,”
“Yes, Nay, I lab you bery mach,” You sigh into the phone letting your grandmother’s lather your tongue cutting into the briskness of your consonants. It held the same euphoria as taking off your shoes after a particularly long day.
“Unless you’re Dick, you can’t burn cereal,” Tim cut in carting you away from your reverie.
“Watch me, Drake,” You huff throwing a pillow at Tim almost making him drop his cereal bowl.
“So, can Gotham survive without Red Robin for a weekend?”
“Shouldn’t you have asked me this before telling your grandma that you’re taking me?”
“I’m just double-checking,”
“How considerate,”
“To be fair, your schedule is already volatile as is,"  You huff snuggling up to him on the couch. It was too cold in Tim’s apartment. You think a rich kid like him could afford to turn up the heat. Though, you aren’t exactly going to complain about an excuse to cuddle him.
Tim doesn’t make a move to push you away. Instead, he wraps his arm around you pulling you closer. This was the type of easy affection you two had become accustomed to. This was also the thing that will make your Schrade even more convincing. "True, but I asked Cass and the others to cover for me. Plus, your grandma sounds like she likes me,”
“Considering you don’t have a criminal record and aren’t currently being investigated, you immediately rocketed to the top of her list,” You answer absentmindedly stirring your cereal and taking a bite.
Tim whips his head to you and gives you a concerned look which you return with a smile full of cereal. He blanches at you, shaking his head and grabbing the remote to unpause the Star Trek episode you two were watching. You both prop your feet up and chew your cereal slowly, not feeling any reason to hurry.
How long has it been since you started? You’re pretty sure it was 1 AM when you started.
As if reading your mind, Tim looks at his phone, winces then turns back to the screen without another word.  You quirk your brow at him but decide that there is some truth to the saying ignorance is bliss.
You were gonna hate yourselves come noon.
 It’s noon, the sun has the audacity to show itself,  and you hate yourself.
You definitely, unequivocally hate yourself.
You groan in the passenger seat, head pressed against the cool window. The faint warmth of the sun glancing off your skin makes the tinges of nausea circling the periphery of your senses come to life. Your stomach does a cartwheel and you think- you’re sure you’re going to throw up but you aren’t gonna do that.
No way in hell are you gonna do that. Not when you’ve finally conned your way into monopolizing Tim’s attention for the weekend.
Ok, yeah, sure it was the result of some miscommunication between you and your cousin who then passed on the miscommunication to the whole goddamn family but that’s just what you call a happy accident.
You blow out a breath, greedily taking in all the coolness of the glass pressed against your skin calling your mind back to your body. You weren’t really good with handling the not sleeping thing.
“You ok?” Tim asked his eyes flickering between you and the alarmingly empty road. There was worry in his eyes whether it was the fact that you looked like shit or the fact that the road you were on looked like the opening to a terrible 80s slasher flick. It was Halloween after all. It would be pretty perfect. Dread licks at your stomach at the thought.
You let the silence lapse. In the corner of your eye, you see Tim’s hand tighten on the steering wheel. You stare at the expanse of farmland stretching to the horizon debating whether to humor his question or to let him stew.
“I’m fine,” You picked the third option.
“You don’t look fine,” Tim deadpans, turning to you.
“Stop looking then-” Tim scowls at you his pouty lips pulling into an angle. You sneer. “-You don’t look too good yourself, Kirk,”
Tim makes an offended noise. You look at Tim, really look at him, for the first time in hours. Tim, as per usual, looked obnoxiously handsome even though he was running on at most 30 minutes of sleep and had eye bags running down his face. Somewhere lost in his contemplative expression was the blindingly obvious hint of self doubt. You’ve seen it tons of times.
You peel yourself away from the cool glass to look Tim in the eyes. Dread swims in the pools of teal looking straight back at you. Tim’s mouth edges between a pout and a frown. You soften, shifting in your seat angling until your body is facing his.
“Whatever it is you’re overthinking it,”
“You don’t even know what I’m thinking!”
“Ay,” You chuckle and shake your head. “Tim, it’s you. You overthink everything. I don’t need to be a mind reader to see that,”
 Tim huffs. Maybe he was overthinking things.
“ ‘sides, I don’t see why you would be nervous 'bout meeting my family,”
Has it occurred to you I want to date you for real at some point? Tim thought a little frustrated.
You laugh when he frowns but instead of teasing him any further. You flick the radio on. Your hackles rise as it crackles to life. A smile flickers on your face when ‘All-star’ comes on. You cry out, a noise of shrill joy filling the air.
“Oh my god” Tim breathes, running his long fingers through his dark hair. “You absolute dork,”
“Kettle. Pot.” You grin.
Tim snorts as you loudly sing along with the radio. Unfortunately for him, your enthusiasm for the song was infectious. Somehow you both managed to miss every beat of the song.
You somehow felt like you were definitely forgetting something.
6 cans of monster and 5 things of 5-hour-energy drink later, you arrived. Tim’s nice-looking car pulls into the dusty gravel driveway of a rather large and old colonial looking house. Seeing the robust form of the large house looming in the distance injected your veins with a stifling source of dread. 
You love your family to bits but sometimes their presence weighed so much. You can feel their words already pecking at you, drawing pit and pieces of your self into frayed fibers. All you can think about were the comments hushed behind palms and the dissecting gaze of dark eyes. Your mouth feels dry and you can already feel your feet pivoting back towards the car.
Tim reaches for your hand, lacing his slender fingers between yours.  He smiles at you squeezing your hand. You can feel him rattling from his own anxiety but his effort steadies you. You grin at him and squeeze back.  
Your teeth click the entire walk up to the large oak doors. Tim squeezes your hand again, his teal eyes sweeping over you with a concerned glint. You furrow your brow and somehow he understands and raises his hand to knock on the door.
The door bursts open. Music and laughter wash over you as hands hurry you into the front hall.
“Nay! Dito na sya! May dalang gwapo!” (Mom, y/n’s here and they brought someone handsome.)
About 20 heads turn to look at you. Tim feels some embarrassment from the attention but that doesn’t last too long as in the space of about 5 seconds, those 20 heads were swarming you both, pulling you into hugs, shaking your hands, and ruffling your hair in varying degrees of force and order.
“Beh, you’ve grown so big” Your aunt coos squishing your face.
“Nena, look at this guy,”
“Tita, he doesn’t have any tattoos,” Your little cousin marveled looking bug-eyed as she lifted Tim’s shirt. You swat her away but take a quick second to subtly admire Tim’s sculpted abs. Your aunt scolds him and your uncle drags you to the main room where more guests were sitting chattering or screaming at a foreign horror movie.   
All the apprehension bundled into your stiff shoulders dissolves like seafoam against the overwhelming warmth of the festivities. The raucous laughter drags the roughness of Gotham away from your tongue. In place of your slow, careful syllables are quick clattering consonants and concise vowels. Your vowels were still elongated and angled to a sharp point unlike the nearly musical words of your cousins but as you said before ‘Gotham has its way of burying itself in your bones’. Tim just never thought about how saliently it showed itself in words. He wonders how his accent (folded, neat, and sterilized) sounds to you. He wonders how dull he sounds to you.
You have teased him about it. You’ve teased him endlessly about the way upper-class Manhattan just rolls off his tongue, how Alfred’s British affectations worm their way into his syllables. What you don’t tell him is how the smooth velvet of his words lull you into a hypnotic state that steals every bit of oxygen from your lungs.  What you can’t make yourself tell him is that you would gladly spend your whole life listening to him read a fucking phone book. 
The festivities were lively and informal. Jokes flying every which way. All alternating between your native tongue. You laugh into your drink, hiding the hesitant curve blunting your infectious smile. Tim nudges you to ask what’s wrong but you simply nudge him back and shake your head as if he had said something funny. Your relatives didn’t seem to notice your demeanor or if they did they left it alone.
Tim decides to leave it alone for now. Instead, he leaned into the flow of conversation. His years of speaking at galas working their magic on your aunts. They bombarded him with questions. Most of which sounded like screening questions at the embassy. You snarled at them more than once to knock it off but Tim shook it off. He knows they’re just worried about you the same way he worried for you. Well, not the same way but it was their way of showing they cared. He lets himself be immersed in the conversation.  It’s more like he tuned into the sweet sound of your laughter but made sure to dedicate enough restraint to not look like a love-sick puppy.
“Tanga!” (MORON!)
“Baliw!” (Crazy!)
“E gago ka pala, di ba halata yun?” (No shit sherlock, isn’t it obvious?)
Tim is at best confused as he watches the volley of words between you and your cousin. Your voices rising above the blaring karaoke. Anthony (?) clamps a hand on his shoulder and laughs as he watches you and Martin (?) hurl insults at each other. In the corner of your eye, you watch his reactions checking if he understood a word. He isn’t fluent but he understood bits and pieces. He’s heard you mutter angrily about customers enough times to distinguish an insult. 
“Dun worry about 'em. They won’t fight. They’re stupid but they’re not that stupid. ‘Sides, they’re too afraid of Nay for that,”
Tim gives Anthony a doubtful look. Anthony chuckles at him, clapping him on the back urging him to keep watching. He does if only to make sure you’ll be alright. When he does, he tunes into your words. Tim marvels at how musical you sound as you trade another round of rapid-fire jabs with Martin, how at ease you seem. Tim makes a mental note to get you to teach him. Though, he wasn’t entirely sure how he would justify it.  Admittedly, part of it was just wanting to spend more time with you.
He can probably swing it.
A surge of protectiveness crowds his veins when Martin grabs at you but his hand is swatted by a cane. The air crackles with a sharp snap. The room plunges into silence.  A small woman with silver hair stands tall and imperious at the other end of the cane. You and your cousins stiffen.
“Hi Nay,” You trail off with a distinct lack of grace. You swallow the lump forming your throat, robbed of any coherent thought by the stinging look in her eyes. You felt bare under her gaze. Layers and layers of skin peeling beneath the weight of her attention. Fury flickers like firelight across her dark eyes. Your skin suddenly felt like lint and you were sure you would catch fire.
A pause.
A bated breath held for what felt like an eternity.
“Iha(Iho), It’s been so long,” She says, softening. Her wrinkled face stretches into a kind smile that made you think of freshly cooked vegetables.  Her cane folding to her side as she loops her arm over your shoulders. “It’s nays to see you,”
A choked sound comes out of you and you feel something shake loose. “Missed you too, Nay,” You breathed. Tim feels awkward, fidgeting in his place.  
The soft smile on your grandmother fades a little. Her sharp eyes appraising Tim. The look wasn’t particularly venomous, but it left Tim feeling like he’d been cut open and analyzed. He wasn’t entirely sure of why you were all so scared of her before but now he fully understood.
She relinquishes her grip on you and urges you to go back to Tim. You frown a little, giving her a suspicious look which she returns innocently.  You let out a little breath before walking back to Tim’s side. She gives him another long once over before silently strolling away. His stomach churned but eased at your touch. You still look uneasy but you don’t fuss over it. Not when Martin decides that he wasn’t quite done with bickering.
 The festivities went on as normal. Maybe with a little less cussing going around. But Tim barely noticed when your laugh, free of any hesitance, echoed sonorously in his ear as he held you close. 
Roz presses a drink into his hand. “Congrats, you’ve survived round one of Nay’s hazing,”
“Round one?” Tim hiccups into his drink. He coughed. The beer was strong. A strangely potent amount of alcohol that made his throat burn.
“Yeah, Roz, that was more like round 2.” You mutter sullenly, distinctly taking no sips of the drink Roz had also handed you. The paranoid Bat-part of his brain screams that he’s been poisoned. He’s struggling not to let it win over but your conversation wasn’t helping.
“Nay will eat him alive,”
“I mean. She’ll do it nicely,”
“Pfffft, right! Ok, Tony, name one time she’s been nice.”
“How about-”
“The thing with Y/n earlier doesn’t count,”
“Why not?”
“There was a hidden agenda,”
“Oh shit! The bitch is right- Ow! You are!”
You look at Tim apologetically and squeeze his hand. Somehow this does not calm his nerves, but he tries his best to ease into his touch.
 On the trip here, you warned him that it was going to be exhausting. He assumed, incorrectly, that you were exaggerating. After all, he’s survived snobby rich people and his family. Your family seemed nice. He can survive a nice family dinner.
But what you neglected to tell him was that it would be sheer chaos.  He definitely wasn’t prepared for the sensory overload.  The house was almost unbearably loud compared to the manor. Every corner was filled with people chattering, playing games,  eating, and doing anything to entertain themselves. Sure, Tim was used to chaos but he was more accustomed to short bursts. He wasn’t quite as prepared for the seemingly endless stream of conversations and liquor.
You had definitely not prepared his poor unassuming introverted ass well enough. Not even halfway through the night, Tim was ready to crash. The 20 minutes of sleep he got beforehand had not helped. 
You, the angel that you are, guide him away from the party. You drag yourselves down the wide yawning corridor to the grand staircase.
Lit only by the thin veil of moonlight, the house showed its age. Walking up the stairs and walking through its hallways was like falling through time. The halls were lined with paintings, all landscapes and still-lifes. He’s thankful for that small mercy. His head swimming in liquor, he is reminded of the portraits at Wayne Manor and how their eyes burned at you as you passed.
The lack of portraits doesn’t make the house any less creepy mind you. Religious fixtures line the halls, crucifixes affixed to every arch-like mistletoes. There were doll-like statues of hollow-eyed saints at every corner table. It might have been the dancing moonlight but Tim swore he saw one of them move. Tim suddenly wishes he hadn’t ingested so much liquor.
Before long, you make your way to a bedroom. How the hell you knew which one to put him in was anyone’s guess. You lead him into the room. Touch gentle and careful as you coaxed him in. Soft jazzy music echoing hauntingly. The dancing moonlight and the solid shadows of the room highlighting your gorgeous features, drawing his attention to your plush lips. You lean over him to make sure he was indeed still part of the living. Liquid courage surging in his face, he presses his lips to yours. It’s cautious. He gently runs his hand through your hair, pulling you towards him with a push. The press of his lips is restrained, more of a question than a demand. Slightly chapped lips press against your sweet and searching.
Tim remembers the warm press of your lips, the way the pads of fingers trail against the soft fabric of his shirt, your warm breath fanning against his cool skin, then nothing.

Tim grouses into his pillow. Tim was having an absolutely wonderful dream. He could still feel your warm lips against his.  Tim squeezes his eyes trying to go back to sleep.

‘1 AM’ the antique analog clock at the nightstand reads.
“I’m up!” He lies burying himself further into the thick sheets.
His brothers really needed to stop breaking into his apartment at 1-

Tim nearly falls out of bed when he remembers where he is. He jams a shirt over his head and some sweatpants before stumbling to the door.
“Hey Tim, you coming?” Anthony asks through the crack of the door.
Tim opens the door a little wider. “Where?”
“Outside,” Roz shrugs vaguely.
 “Whe-”
You step out of your room, extremely hesitant. Your knuckles were turning white from apprehension. You look at Tim, surprise plain in your eyes. You flinch heat rising to your cheeks. Tim remembers the texture of your soft lips. He wishes that wasn’t a dream. You glare at your cousins who give you a confused look. 
“Roz, he-”
“Awwww, ‘insan, you’re actually coming?” Martin mocks clapping you on the shoulder drawing, what Tim considers, an adorable squeak from you. His heart almost leaps from his chest when your warm body presses further into Tim’s side. You can’t hear it but Tim’s breath stutters in his chest.  He loops his arm around you protectively. Martin gives both of you a sly conspiratorial look.
You scowl at Martin. Glaring with as much intensity and intimidation your burning cheeks would allow. Roz swats him over the head making him almost topple down the steps before Anthony even gets a chance to rebuke him. Instead, Anthony turns to you, brows furrowed. “You sure you want to come? Nay said-”
“La a!” Martin protested. Roz rolls her eyes and swats him again. “Dipshit’s right. Nay didn’t say jack,”
“Then why did you swat me?”
“E, I felt like it e,”
“Bish, whose side are you on?!” He snarls but before he can lunge at Roz, Anthony is already dragging him by the scruff of his neck.
“Shhhhhhhhhhh! Not so loud. The kids will hear us,”
“I for one will not help you wrangle tita’s crotch gremlins,”
“We’re going to be late and Nay is going to unleash hell upon us,”
Anxiously, you tug at Tim urging him to follow your cousins as they filed out through the back door.
 “Where are we going?” Tim hisses.
All four of you share a look.
“We’ll explain,” You promise.
 The journey was eerie. Punctuated by the fact that none of you explain jack. The walk was entirely silent, devoid of bickering or any sort of conversation. He can see the silence driving both Roz and Anthony mad. You honestly look like you’re going to keel over. The odd thing was that even the birds were silent. Not a single sound penetrated the thick canopy of juniper trees.
You wonder the woods guided only by the thin ribbons of silver light peaking through the thick clouds of leaves. Tim can feel your pulse as it thundered in your chest. No matter what was going on he would keep you safe.
You arrive in front of a rusted gate half a foot shorter than Tim. It was small, easily climbable with plenty of spiraling pieces to stick your foot into for purchase if needed. Your eyes cut to Roz who fished out a key he’d seen perched on one of the coat racks.  Hesitantly, you held your hand out for the key. Roz, on the other hand, all but slammed it into your hand, grinning in a mix of absolute glee and relief. Your teeth click as you worked the lock. He wants to suggest just going over it but you seem quite adamant and he wasn’t about to push your nerves.
Finally, the lock gives in.
You all file in one at a time in a sort of practiced motion. Beyond the gates was a path with its stones polished from a shine from use. The scarce light coming from the canopy of trees rippling against them. It lit the rest of the way still keeping the surroundings in deep shadow.
The path ended in front of a small dilapidated stone structure that seemed too small to house anything.
“Age before beauty,” Martin jeers, bending down dramatically urging Roz to go in. She, in turn, shoves him in with a swift kick. The dark interior of the structure swallows him whole. Her dark eyes cut to you. You swallow but ultimately you shrug off Tim’s hold and relinquish your death grip on Tim’s arm. You let out a shaky breath as you step over the threshold. Just like Martin before you, the shadows leave no trace of you.
Tim reaches for the last bit of your swaying blanket. Roz taking the chance shoves Tim over the threshold, his vision goes pitch black.
“See you there, lover boy~”
The darkness is all-encompassing making his eyes completely useless as much as he tries to adjust them. Instead, he strains all of his other senses. He feels the press of moss-covered walls closing in on him. The staircase only seemed wide enough to let one person pass at a time. The stairs wind in shallow predictable patterns. The scent of moss and burning firewood grew heavy as he made his descent. Distantly, he could hear the soft padding of your shoes against the stone but he also heard the crackle of jazzy music. It was the kind he only heard from the old black and white movies Bruce and Alfred watched. It was oddly familiar but he couldn’t place it. The smooth baritone of the singer rattles in his head. A shiver of mild discomfort travels up his spine.
After what feels like an eternity, Tim emerges. His eyes slamming shut from the sudden brightness of his surroundings. He blinks, eyes adjusting to the light. His eyes take in his surroundings.
He was in a clearing. It was man-made, constructed using the same stones that lined the path you’d taken. The stone walls were covered in moss and ivy, but the stone that did peak out reflected the moonlight freely raining drown from the clear autumn sky. In the center of the space, sit 9 people including yourself. All cast in the warm glow of the crackling bonfire. It is a living thing, raging and casting shadows sharpening and obscuring features.
“I’m so glad you could join us, Timothy,” Your grandmother calls out as she fiddles with the nobs of the old radio perched in her lap. It crackles uncooperatively despite her efforts. He can’t pry his eyes away from it even as he takes his seat next to your shivering form.
Without much thought, Tim pulls you close. You tremble, teeth still clicking eyes wild and fixed on the radio. The radio is a curious thing. It’s an old model. It’s sleek but dotted with various nobs and switches. If he had to guess, it was something out of the 1960s. In the periphery of his senses, he hears Roz and Anthony step out of the staircase and take their places in the circle with Roz sitting right next to your grandmother.
Your grandmother stops fiddling with the radio then turns to Roz who is now comfortably seated. Your teeth chatter and your shoulder hitch as they silently converse. Roz inhales then exhales. Her dark eyes sweep over all of you making sure she had your attention. Based on the silence and the still forms, she did. She sits a little straighter, her shoulders rolling back.
She throws herself into a tale. It was a story she’d heard long ago about a man, a house, and a secret. Her calm voice carries over the soft roaring of the bonfire. It wasn’t the scariest tale Tim had heard but Roz told it well. Well enough to draw squeaks from several people including yourself.
Tim relaxes catching on to the turn of events. He lets you press into his side as you make your feeble attempt to get away from the story. Tim chuckles at the amount of theatrics you’ve all put into building up to this little gathering. However, all his smug skepticism vanishes when Roz finishes her story.
The static from the radio vanishes. Its various nobs move without assistance and its switches click into place.  The same baritone voice carries from the radio. Tim doesn’t hear what it says as his mind reels. He turns to you and opens his mouth to ask but Anthony begins his tale before Tim can even formulate his question. Beside him, you fidget with his sleeve shaking hands clenching and unclenching on the fabric.
Tim remembers how much you hate ghost stories. You’d once gotten sick with a fever just from watching horror movies. At this point, you were on the verge of tears. Your breathing slowed abnormally as Martin finished his story. The radio predictably did not whirr to life after his story. Through your chattering teeth, you give your cousin a vicious smile which he volleys by sticking his tongue out petulantly.
It’s your turn.
You squeeze Tim’s hand twice before worming out of his grasp. You flutter your long lashes, lightcatching in them looking golden as the fire flickered urging you to delve into your story. You roll your shoulders and let your blanket and apprehension slide away in one smooth action.
You tell your story.
 Your countenance still and grave as you tell a story of crossroads and terrible choices.
The radio huffs, seemingly amused by your effort.
“Well, y/n,” The radio coos. Your name drips like molasses from its speakers. It’s unsettling how crisp it sounds. Its voice absent of static as it addresses you. “You sure do know about bad choices. I believe so does that young thing- Pardon me. Young things swimming in the harbor. They’re just a tinsy bit cut up about it.” The radio teases almost sounding gleeful. You nod gravely, stomach reaching the floor.
Harbor?
You settle back down into your seat. Tim nudges you, cocking his head to the side to question you. Your fist clenches and unclenches in your lap before you look him in the eyes again.
“Case,” You mouth silently.
It clicks.
The harbor.
 The bodies.
That’s what the radio meant.
Someone clears their throat urging Tim to tell a story. He stumbles through a half-remembered urban legend he heard from Steph awhile ago. His mind far too preoccupied with the new information to really devote to any theatrics.
 His turn passes.
And the stories continue as he mulls over the information.
It’s your grandmother’s turn. Your hand grips Tim’s arms white-knuckled. You attempt to swallow down the fear but it catches in your throat constricting your airway. The flames dance casting her face in sinister shadows that bring out all the sharp angles in her features. Her smile curls cruel. Her bony fingers trace the seems and delicate patterns embossed on the old radio. Static erupts loud then dies down just as quickly. Her smokey voice fills the air. Heavy and commanding. The story spills from her lips smooth and velvety slick with gore and unspoken horrors. None of you dare to speak. Some don’t even breathe. Your hands scrabble for purchase on Tim’s shirt as you bury your face in his chest. You feel him wrap himself around you shielding you the best he can. Ear pressed to his chest, you can hear Tim’s pulse hammering. The terror soaking through to his bones. He remains steady. Unflinching even as the story reaches its climax.
The flames flash, fade, then flicker.  
The radio crackles.
The smooth baritone of its voice distorting into something undeniably inhuman.
Shadows dance.
Their hands reaching out as the flames did. A hard yank from one of them nearly topples you out of Tim’s arms.  He shifts you both away from their grasp. He glares fiercely at them making sure you’re safe.
Sorrowful moans fill the air but your grandmother is undeterred.
With a shrill cry from the radio, everything dies down.
The shadows retreat.
The fire simmers down now small and tame.
Everyone lets out a breath. Both of you could feel everyone unfurl. Tense muscles, locked jaws, tight chests all loosen with the end of the story.
For a long moment, the entire circle is still. Then your grandmother stands up. The rest follow her in a mostly quiet procession up the steps.
“Roddy was harsh this year,” Martin whines.
“Nope, you’re just terrible at it. I mean hell even y/n got an answer. It was creepy as all shit but they got an answer,”
“Uh- Is it a good time to ask what just happened?”
Your cousins turn to you.
“You really didn’t tell him anything, did you?”
“How do you propose I bring up the demonic radio?”
“Pffft,”
“Pirst, it isn’t demonic. Do you really think Nay would have kept it if it was?”
“She lets Martin hang around,”
“…….”
“Dis is a good point,”
“HEY”
Tim clears his throat.
“Raaayt, Ok so… once a year we tell the spooky radio stories so we can get answers or our future told,”
“Was the whole creepy walk necessary?”
“Nope,” You answer in chorus.
“It’s just our way of psyching up for it,”
“It’s your guy’s way. Tita at least let’s me hum songs,”
“Well excuse me for not wanting to listen to you sing,”
“Is there anything else you guys want to tell me?”
“Aside from y/n really not wanting to tell-”
You snarl at your cousins, red-faced and bearing your teeth. Martin and Roz cackle as they run. Anthony has the decency to at least look slightly apologetic as he runs.
“Y/n… What aren’t you telling me?”
“Tim, I- I’m- Damn it- I-” You put your hands on your face. You try to calm your breaths. “Look Tim, I-”You take another breath. “I’m sorry. I kissed you but you were drunk-”
“Wait that wasn’t a dream?” There’s a flicker in Tim’s chest.
You look at him mortified. You want the ground to swallow you whole. “Yeah, I- Tim, I know it’s- I’m sorry.”
He remains silent.
Your stomach feels like it’s going to burn up.
“I-”
“I want a redo,”
“A what?”
“A redo,”

Universal Signs
Chapter 20 / Previous Chapter

Everything is a blur when Tim wakes up the first time. He couldn’t figure out what’s going on around him. There were bright lights blinding him from above, blurry figures coming in and out of his vision and muffled sounds surrounding him, they may be voices but Tim couldn’t understand them.
While most of his senses were overwhelmed, physically he felt awful. His body hurt. Any small movement made his muscles twinge in pain and that made it difficult to focus on anything else.
He tried to push past the pain and attempted to lift an arm, he tried to speak up or even lift his head up, but no part of his body seemed to be cooperating with him no matter how hard he tried. In the end it was easy to give up and to simply lie there, allowing whatever was happening to happen. It’s only accidental that his mind wonders off and he drifts back into unconsciousness.
The second time waking up happened to be much like the first time, not that Tim could recall the previous time and compare them.
The second time things were still unclear but Tim was a little more with it. His vision was still blurred, the lights above irritating his eyes as he tried to blink away the blurriness. Sounds around him were also more intelligible, this time he could tell they were voices however he couldn’t make out what was being said.
The main difference between the two was that Tim hadn’t woken up in as much pain as he did last time. The second time he woke up with his body feeling achier more than anything else. It still happened to be difficult to move his limbs because they felt like lead, but any small movement he made didn’t cause him pain.
Despite all that, he ended up drifting off to sleep again in a matter of minutes.
The third time he woke up he’s certainly more coherent. When he opens his eyes the lights blind him once again but after several blinks his eyes adjust and his sight clears allowing him to see the plain white ceiling far above him.
The next thing Tim does is shift about and test his body. It felt sore and achy. He could at least move his limbs now, as jerky as his movements are he’s pleased to find all of his limbs are still attached and seem to be functioning as they should be.
Tim takes a deep breath and tries to work out what happened that lead him to this point. Different things flash through his mind but he has no idea what’s real and what isn’t. Did he get away from Ra’s in the end? Did Kon and the team come and rescue him? Or is his mind making things up, his subconscious trying to make the shitty situation better by giving him false hope?
Tim does his best to not panic because there’s so much information he’s currently missing. On the other hand, what he knows for certain is that his current location isn’t somewhere he recognises. Perhaps he should be more concerned by this but at this point waking up somewhere new isn’t that much out of the ordinary anymore. Plus everything with his body (except his mind apparently) is working so it can’t mean he’s dead or gravely injured.
Deciding that he needs to try and find out more Tim starts shifting about, trying to get leverage to prop himself up. With struggle he’s able to get himself up onto his elbows and up enough so he could look around at his surroundings.
This is when Tim realises he’s on a bed, lying on some kind of soft mattress with a fluffy pillow underneath his head and a light blanket covering his lower half. He’s dressed in a light white t-shirt and blue cotton trousers.
Moving his attention away from himself Tim glances around the room. It looks like he’s in some kind of hospital. There are multiple beds in front of him against the wall all evenly spaced out. The side he’s on is the exact same. There are a few different machines surrounding his bed and Tim realises that there are a couple different wires and tubes attached to him.
His first instinct upon seeing that is to yank them away but he stops himself from doing so, who knows what they’re doing. They could be keeping him alive for all he knows, if Tim yanks them away he may die within seconds.
Just as he’s about to try and push himself up right even more, voices catch his attention. Tim looks to the right and down where the door to the hospital room is located. The voices grow in volume and soon enough two figures enter the room.
Tim watches them wearily. They’re two females, one of which is green with red hair while the other is fair skinned with blonde hair. Well, he’s assuming they’re females by the look of their figures but he could be wrong. Tim couldn’t put his finger on it but they seem familiar, he’s not sure if he’s met them before or it’s a sense of déjà vu.
The two females cease their conversation when they notice him propped up looking at them. They silently walk over to his bed, both of them taking one side and settling down in a couple chairs there. Tim continues watching them, feeling slightly cautious and anxious, he’s unsure on what they want.
“How are you feeling?” The blonde one asks him, looking him up and down as if inspecting him. Does she have some kind of weird superpowers too?
“Uh…” Tim sounds out, hearing how his voice is croaky Tim clears his throat and winces as he does because of the dryness he feels there. “I’m good thanks.” He tells her in the end.
The blonde hums while the red head stays silent. Tim glances at them and away again, suddenly feeling very awkward. Why did they come here? Where is here exactly? That’s something Tim still hasn’t worked out.
He has no idea on what to say or do to break the thick tension that’s filled the air. After several moments of this, just as it’s about to become too much, the red head finally breaks it.
She’s staring at Tim like she’s looking at a complicated puzzle. Tim really doesn’t appreciate the scrutiny.
“You’re anxious.”
Tim blinks at her, completely caught off guard with the statement. Out of all the things she could have said, that wasn’t even close to what Tim would have imagined being voiced. However it does the trick, it breaks ice and gets him speaking up about the things on his mind from the moment he woke up.
“Yeah I am actually.” He declares profoundly. “Because you want to know why? It’s because I am somewhere I don’t know. I have no idea who you two are or what you want. I can’t remember anything that’s recently happened as my brain is a mess. Am I still with Ra’s? Is this a mind game? Or did I actually get rescued by Kon, Bart and Cassie? The last thing I think I can remember is pain. Probably from being tortured? It all kind of blurs after that. I have absolutely no idea on what to think at this point.”
Tim takes a breath after he finishes rambling. Finding that he’s exerted himself, he flops back down onto the bed and covers his face with his hands, letting out a defeated groan as he does. The two females at his bedside say nothing while he lays there.
“Well we can fill in some gaps for you if you would like us too.”
“You’re safe here. We’re on Krypton now, currently in the infirmary. You were badly wounded.”
Tim removes his hands and glances at them, he has no idea if they’re lying or not. Tim figures the least he could do is listen to them, if they can fill in what he’s missing then that would be a massive relief.
Pushing himself back up onto his elbows he nods. “Can you tell me please? Everything’s a little blurry.”
The red head nods while the blonde stands up and grabs something from the side. It looks like a little remote and after pressing a button on it the bed begins to move. The mattress is rises into an incline position and once it stops moving Tim lets himself relax against it, finding the position more comfortable than before.
“To begin with I’m Kara and that’s M’gann,” the blonde introduces them to him, “we were part of the team that rescued you from the League of Assassins.”
Tim nods his acknowledgement and stays silent. He’s going to assume they know who he is. It also now makes more sense on why they seem familiar. He has met them before, even if he can’t fully remember the experience of doing so.
Kara tells him their side of the story. She summarises how Bart had woken up from his coma, bumped into her and then M’gann. The three of them decided to leave Krypton together in search for Kon and Cassie who had left a note to Bart while he had been unconscious which explained their plan to rescue Tim.
They tracked their location using M’gann’s ship and got onto the League of Assassins base ship, they then bumped into Pru and after a few misunderstandings Pru decided to help them. Pru ended up showing the three of them where Kon and Cassie were being held in a cell because they had been captured. After that Pru went and collected Tim, who had been in terrible shape, and then they all made their way off the base ship in M’gann’s bio ship.
While escaping the assassins Tim had passed out and Pru treated him the best she could on the ship by re-bandaging his wounds. Some time later they made it to Krypton without being caught. Once on the planet Tim had been admitted to the infirmary where his wounds were treated properly.  
“You woke up a few times but were extremely confused with what was going on and then you passed out again. This is the first time you’ve been awake and coherent since we’ve arrived back.” Kara finishes off casually.
Tim blinks at her for a long time, trying to digest everything that she had told him. It’s certainly more than he had been expecting. While her explanation does give him some answers he had been after, it also creates some new ones.
After taking a deep breath he glances at the two beside him. “How long have I been here? In the infirmary I mean.”
Kara and M’gann share a look before turning to him again. “Several days now. Do humans normally sleep so much?” Kara gives him a curious look. It’s an expression he recognises well because the others often wore it when they first met and as they learned more about him.
Before he could respond to the blonde M’gann pipes up. “You were badly wounded and your body was exhausted. The Kryptonian’s treated you the best they could and also used a healing agent to help the accelerate your recovery.”
That would explain why he wasn’t in as much pain as before. His body still hurt of course and is feeling particularly achy but it didn’t feel like it was going to give out at any second.
With that answered he moves onto his next thought. “Where are the others?”
At this question, Tim easily picks up on their reluctance to give him an answer. They share a look before turning back to him but neither of them say anything. Their silence only makes Tim want an answer more and it’s putting him on edge with panic and concern the longer they stay quiet.
“Where are they? They’re okay right?”
“They’re fine!” Kara quickly says watching him with wide eyes. “They’re all fine, it’s just a complicated situation they’re in that’s all. Pru’s fine too.”
Tim frowns, “Complicated? What the hell does that mean?”
“They’re in a lot of trouble Tim. They broke rules, disobeyed orders, kept important information away from the leaders. All three of them are going to be facing some serious consequences because of their actions.”
A sudden wave of guilt hits Tim. The others are all in trouble because of him. They went out of their way to help him, to protect and look after him and because of that they’re in trouble with their leaders.
At the very start while Bart and Kon had easily accepted him onboard, Cassie seemed more reluctant to do so and seemed cold towards him sometimes. Now reflecting on it, perhaps her actions are validated. She probably knew he was trouble from the moment they met but allowed it all to happen anyway. Kon and Bart never seemed too bothered by it.
“Take me to them.” He demands of the girls.
Immediately Kara is shaking her head in denial. “We can’t Tim. They’re currently in the office now with Kal, talking over everything that’s happened.”
He doesn’t know why the urge is so strong but all he can think about is the three aliens that have saved his life numerous of times and how they are now being chewed out for it.
Tim sends Kara a glare. “I don’t care. Look take me yourselves or I’ll find my own way there.” He starts shifting on the mattress, making a move to get up off it when both of girls jump out of their seats with their hands held out to stop him.
“We can’t.”
“You can.”
The three of them have a stare off and despite the hard looks being sent his way, Tim doesn’t back down. He gives them one just as hard back in return. He doesn’t know what does it, but in the end the girls submit and accept that he isn’t changing his mind. They help him out of bed, find him some shoes and start walking him to the main office.
Tim’s mind is rather occupied to take in his surroundings as they walk through various of corridors of a building they’re in. He doesn’t take much notice in the different rooms they pass, or the various of beings they pass by who shoot curious looks his way.
The three of them are silent the whole way there and once they reach some large double doors M’gann says her farewell and leaves him and Kara at the doors. From inside Tim could hear a deep booming voice shouting and he could guess that the angry shouting is being aimed at his friends.
Ignoring Kara’s last attempt to change his mind Tim pushes open the doors without knocking and enters the room. Tim doesn’t know what he had been mentally preparing for when he bursts into the room, the scene that greets him is his friends all sat down on chairs in front of a desk where a large board shouldered man stood behind it.
The unknown man, Tim picks up that he kind of looks like an older version on Kon, is halfway through a sentence and when Tim storms in he abruptly stops talking. Simultaneously his friends all turn around to see what had stopped the man from shouting and then three identical looks of shock and horror cross their faces.
Now he’s entered the room, Tim falters. He’s come in here with no kind of plan on what he’s going to say to try and defend his friends and himself. Maybe Kara had been right after all.
In the end his hesitation at the door doesn’t matter because Kara is right there beside him, her hand wrapping around his arm and starting to tug him back towards the door they had just come through.
“Apologies Kal, I did try to stop him from coming here.” Kara says sincerely with a hint of embarrassment in her tone. “We’ll be on our way.”
“Kara.”
At the call of her name the two of them stop, while the female Kryptonian doesn’t let him go they both turn back around to face the others. The man up front is watching them through narrowed eyes and Tim has no idea on what to think. He really should have thought of something before barging in like this, now he just looks stupid.
“Since the human is awake, it may be worth hearing to what he has to say.” He says in a deep low voice. The tone wasn’t the one he had used when he had been shouting moments ago, this time it’s calm and controlled.
It’s eerily calm and it sets Tim on edge immediately. It reminds him of when Bruce is becomes so angry that he’s scarily calm. Sometimes that calmness is worse than the shouting.
Tim shares a wide-eyed look with Kara who glances between the two of them and then let’s go of his arm. Taking initiative Tim walks further into the room and stands behind his friends, however before he can say anything Kon is jumping up to his feet and protesting.
“Kal this is ridiculous! Tim doesn’t need to get involved, leave him out of this.”
“Sit down Kon-el and not another word.” The command is said in such an aggressive dominating way that there is no way to disobey. For what he thinks is the first time, Tim sees Kon speechless, his friend instantly shuts his mouth and sits back down, but not without glaring.
Once Kon is sat the man’s attention comes back onto Tim. His gaze is heavy and almost feels like it’s penetrating him. Tim does his best to get past the nerves that have built up and face the man head on, he takes a deep breath before saying anything.
“I know as a leader, you’re frustrated at what has transpired recently. They have disrespected you and have disobeyed orders, but by doing so they saved my life. Numerous of times in fact. I am so grateful for what they have done for me from the moment we met.
They didn’t have to help me, they could have easily ignored me and carried on with their jobs but chose not to despite the consequences they would face. They took me on board their ship to look after and help me.
I was taken away from my home without a choice. I never asked for any of this to happen. I have been beaten, tortured, scared, so clueless and completely out of my depth since then. The three in front of you helped to save my life and give me some form of safety.”
Tim swallows and takes a moment to pause to think about what to say next. He’s not entirely sure on how to word what he should, but he means every word that he’s already said.
The man, Kal is it, spoke before he could continue. “One life isn’t worth millions and the threat of war. Not only did they fail to report they found you but they disobeyed orders and ran after you onto the League of Assassins base ship, where they got confronted by Ra’s Al Ghul himself. In the process of that they got others involved, got compromised and then brought back an assassin and two others that were long ago exiled.
You have caused nothing but trouble from the moment you appeared on the radar.”
Tim grits his teeth to stop himself from retaliating at the words. He may not be from around here but this is still clearly an unfair situation.
“Sir, with all due respect, this is a completely unfair situation. Yes they shouldn’t have disobeyed orders, but they were being the good people they are and helping to save a life because they could.
As for the war, I don’t believe that Ra’s endgame. As it’s been pointed out before the alliance between you and the others equal, if not surpass, what the League have. I don’t think you’ll have to worry about a war, Ra’s knows not to attack you head on.”
“That’s a bold statement for you to say.” Kal comments looking at him like he’s now intrigued with Tim. Tim could see anger still there but it’s not as prominent as before, Tim’s going to believe that’s a good thing for now.
“I’m just saying what I believe. From what I can gather Ra’s took me because he happened to be ‘interested’ in me. To begin with I was a slave, being used and beaten, it was like I was an experiment, a new toy they could play with. But things changed and then I practically became a personal assistant for the bastard.
Through luck I managed to escape. That’s what Ra’s is pissed at. A little ole human being able to escape the grasp of the League of Assassin’s. The three in front of you found me on an abandoned planet afterwards and from then got mixed up in all of this which I apologize for.
As for a war, I can’t exactly tell you if he is planning an attack or not. The person you may want to talk to about that is Pru, I’ve heard she’s around. She sacrificed everything to get me, and them, off the base ship. She may be willing to share vital information.
As for me, I just want to go home. I never asked for this.”
Silence fills the room after Tim finishes talking. Everyone is currently staring at him and Tim does his best to not fidget under the attention. He’s not sure if he’s said the right things, all he’s trying to do is clear his name and the others.
Then again they did disobey orders and unfortunately there’s nothing Tim can do to change that fact.
Kal doesn’t stop looking at him. His eyes bore into Tim like he’s trying to see Tim’s memories so he would be able to tell if Tim is telling the truth or not. Wait, can Kryptonian’s see memories or read minds? Tim’s pretty sure Kon didn’t mention those when he told Tim about the abilities that Kryptonian’s have…
Tim’s thoughts are cut off when Kal finally speaks up. His gaze moves around the room before it falls back onto Tim.
“It doesn’t change that they ignored orders and went on an unsanctioned mission which could have easily gone very wrong. The five of them will be punished, some more than others. The other leaders and I need to have a discussion on what the punishments will be and the severity of them.
Moving forward, we will also be keeping a close eye on Ra’s Al Ghul and the League of Assassins after all of this. We need to try and keep updated with his movements.”
For the first time since Tim entered the room, Bart speaks up from his chair. The Speedster is currently vibrating on the spot, it’s like it’s taking all of his restraint to remained seated and to not speed off.
“What does that mean for Tim though? Will he be able to go home?”
Kal finally sits down in the seat behind the desk he’s been standing at. He’s no longer the angry person Tim had walked in on, he’s become more resigned and patient, as if hearing Tim talk has allowed him to let go some of the anger he had been holding on to.
“The human’s – Tim’s – situation will have to be discussed with the other leaders of Krypton and even those across Keystone and Themyscira as all of you have been involved. This impacts more than just Tim and you three and that needs to be taken into consideration.
For now Tim will remain on Krypton until further notice. This will also keep him away from the League for the moment. The rest of you will also remain here until told otherwise and the news of your punishment will come once it has been discussed.”
While that’s not exactly what he had been hoping for, Tim couldn’t really complain. At least the older Kryptonian isn’t kicking him off the planet and leaving him for dead somewhere or worse, handing him back over to the League. As well as him staying on the planet he’ll still be around the others, so there’s that.
“You’ll be contacted when a decision has been made.” Kal continues to talk, looking at the each of them. His gaze lands on Kara for a moment longer before he looks at the rest of them again. “Kara I want to talk to you. The rest of you are dismissed.”
Not finding any other reason to stay they all, besides Kara, exit the office room and pile into the corridor. As soon as the doors close his friends immediately turn to him.
“What was all that about Tim?”
“Why would you do that!”
“I can’t believe you stood up to Kal like that!”
Tim blinks and shakes his head, trying to make sense of the different comments being rapidly fired his way. In the end he’s only able to make out a couple of comments and puts his hands up to try and stop the bombardment that’s happening.
“Guys. Guys! I can’t understand you if you’re all shouting at me!” He sends each of them a glare to shut them up. It does the trick because a moment later they quieten down and look guilty at their outbursts.
Before Tim could say any more, Cassie speaks up again but addresses the whole group instead. “Why don’t we go elsewhere to have this conversation. We’re all still recovering, so let’s get comfortable first.”
At the mention of recovery, Tim’s attention is brought to the achiness thrumming through his body. He’s certainly better than he had previously been, whatever they used to help him recover faster is certainly doing its job however Cassie’s suggestion to rest somewhere is a good one because Tim could feel the weight of his body starting to wear him down.
“Let’s go to my room, it’s the biggest one we have and is private. I doubt we’ll be allowed anywhere near our ship any time soon.” Kon says looking at them all. His gaze lingers on Tim slightly longer than the rest but be turns away without a comment.
The four of the make their way to Kon’s room in silence. Tim trails behind them, moving a little slower because of his recovery and because he doesn’t have their super stamina or whatever it is.
They pass through many corridors and many rooms on the way there. If Tim had been feeling more alert he would have definitely taken an interest in what they’re passing by, but at that moment he simply didn’t have enough energy to care. He just wants to sit down, get this conversation looming over their heads out of the way and go to sleep.
When Kon finally stops at a door, Tim is relieved to find that they’ve arrived at the Kryptonian’s room. Kon allows them inside and follows in behind them. It’s a simple square room which holds the basic necessities, a bed tucked into a corner, some draws, a desk, a chair and a wardrobe. There’s a small window in the middle of the wall above the bed which is allowing light to stream into the room.
Without prompting, Tim makes his way over to the bed and collapses on it. A moment later he forces himself to move into a sitting position and leans again the wall as the others settle around him. Bart takes the desk chair and immediately starts spinning in circles on it, Cassie sits beside him on the bed and leans against the headboard while Kon stays standing and rests against the wardrobe facing them.
“So first off, how are you Tim? How are you feeling?” Cassie asks looking him over.
In response Tim shrugs. “Okay as can be I guess. I ache all over but I am much better than before. M’gann and Kara described to me what happened on the ship when you all came to get me. My mind is a little blurry from that.”
Kon makes a snorting like sound. “You were out of it alright. I don’t think we’ve ever actually seen you look that bad. You were also completely out of it when we arrived on Krypton. Every time the medics tried to help you, you kept swatting them away and complaining until you fell unconscious again.”
Tim doesn’t know what to say to that so he opts for staying silent, though he’s mentally thanking god that he can’t remember it because it sounds too embarrassing.
“Why did you all come after me on the ship? Not that I don’t appreciate it because I really, really, do but if it was going to get you into this much trouble then why do it?” Tim asks them openly.
They don’t owe him anything so why would they all disobey orders like they have and risk their lives in an attempt to save his? He wasn’t worth the trouble.
His question gets three identical pointed looks sent his way. Tim raises an eyebrow at them, clearly missing the reason why they were all looking at him like that.
Bart stops spinning on the chair and turns his body so he’s facing Tim straight on. “Are you being serious? Is that some kind of human joke we don’t know about? We know you have a sense of humour Tim but I don’t know if that counts as being humorous.”
Tim opens his mouth to protest but Kon speaks up before he could, he sounds peeved as he talks. “Tim, you’re part of our crew no matter what. We all consider you one of us. It doesn’t matter how you joined us or how we met or what your background is. Of course we were coming after you.”
This time when Tim goes to protest he’s interrupted by Cassie. “Tim, let me ask you this. Why did you come to the office when we were in there?”
That makes him pause. He glances at the Amazon to find her watching him with a contemplated look as she waits for an answer. Tim looks away and focuses on his hands in lap as he thinks it through.
“I don’t know… I just – I felt guilty because you lot were being chewed out for saving me which seems unfair from my perspective and none of you deserve it. To be fair it was a rather spontaneous choice, one of which Kara protested against but I refused to listen.”
“Why did you feel guilty? Our choices were our own, you had no say in them.”
“Because you’ve all helped me in ways I can never repay and you’re paying the price of doing so. If I hadn’t been around you all wouldn’t be in this mess.”
“You came to the office to say your piece, to be on our side and defend us. While it wasn’t necessary because the leaders are all pompous and have already decided our punishments and nothing will change that, you still went and did it because you care. You care about us as we do you.
You came to the office because we were there, just like the way we went to the base ship because that’s where you were. We did it because we wanted too.”
Tim blinks at his hands as he thinks it through. He knows deep down that Cassie has hit the nail on the head but he’s reluctant to admit it. He lets out a soft amused snort, “Well I think invading a ship full of assassins is rather different to barging into an office.”
That comment gets him several grins.
“The reason behind both actions are the same are they not? Despite how different the scenarios are they have the same meaning.” Kon says looking at him.
Knowing that there’s not much else to say, unless he wants them to go around in circles again, Tim simply nods. “Thank you. I really mean when I say I’m grateful for everything you all have done.”
“You’ve certainly made our job a lot more interesting!” Bart laughs as he once again starts spinning on the chair. “If anything we probably owe you an apology, after all you got taken when we were supposed to be protecting you.”
At that Tim frowns and shakes his head. “No. I don’t blame you for that. It’s just an unfortunate  occurrence. Yeah I could have done without the torture but I don’t blame you guys for that.”
Cassie sends him a deadpan expression. “An ‘unfortunate occurrence’? You’re labelling yourself getting kidnapped and tortured as an ‘unfortunate occurrence’. That’s not right. Is it just an ‘unfortunate occurrence’ the first time you were taken too?”
Tim winces when she says that. “Maybe that came out wrong but I stand by what I said. I don’t blame none of you for it happening.”
This gets him a bunch of eye rolls though thankfully they drop it at that. Once again, it happens to be a conversation which they could easily go around in circles with. After that a silence settles over them while they each get lost in their thoughts.
Tim’s thinking about how hopefully this is the start of the end. After the leaders have discussed whatever they need to about whatever it is, hopefully they’ll allow him to go home. When he goes home who know what will happen. What’s the chance that Ra’s will find him again? What if something follows him back to Earth? Will his family still be there? Will they believe it’s him when he returns? How long has it been since he disappeared? What will life be like now he knows what exists in the universe?
All these questions he can think of and every one of them all have unpredictable answers. Tim has no idea what’s around the corner and has to wait to find out what will happen.
“I’ve been thinking why doesn’t Tim get some more sleep, while the rest of us make ourselves useful somewhere. Sitting here isn’t achieving anything.”
Cassie’s comment breaks Tim out of his thoughts and he finds himself unable to refuse that idea. Some more sleep does sound pretty good. Plus if he’s asleep at least he’s not actively thinking.
“Yeah okay. That sounds like a plan.” Kon easily agrees. Bart hums his agreement and jumps up from the chair he’s on.
Tim glances at Kon. “You don’t mind me taking your bed?”
Kon waves his hand nonchalantly. “Well I’m not using it so go ahead. Plus you look like you need the rest. It’s still so weird about how much sleep you humans need.”
Tim rolls his eyes but isn’t annoyed at the comment. He too sometimes thinks that himself. As Cassie gets up from the bed, Tim takes her spot and gets comfortable. The others all leave the room, claiming they’ll be back in a bit to check on him. By the time the door shuts Tim is out like a light.

Batfam During Quarantine: Avatar
Dick: Okay, lets try to keep the craziness to a minimum. Harper and Cullen are quarantining for two weeks so lets not do anything to make them jealous.
Duke: *Duke and Tim walk into the room* Omg, We just finished watching Avatar The Last Airbender for like the fifth time right now! I LOVE THIS SHOW SO MUCH!!! WHY DID THEY EVER TAKE IT OFF OF NETFLIX!!!
Dick: Guys, come on. I literally just said to keep the craziness to a minimum.
Tim: They have Netflix set up on their tv. They should be fine.
Damian: What is Avatar The Last Airbender
Everyone: *gasp*
Selina: Some....
Jason: Sh ta ta ta ta. *presses his finger to Selina’s lips* Don’t speak, I know just what you’re sayin’, so please stop explainin’.
Selina: Really Jason? How long have you been waiting to use that one?
Jason: *breaks into a dance* All night long, all night.
Stephanie: What is going on with you Jason? 
Tim: I know right? You don’t ever listen to Lionel Richie, let alone pop music.
Jason: It’s his fault! *points at Dick* Him and his stupid playlist!
Dick: “Don’t Speak” isn’t on my playlist though.

Duke: *starts to explain but Dick holds him back*

Tim: *turns his head towards Cassandra* We already knew you were on board. *turns his head back to Damian*
Damian: Fine, I’ll give your stupid show a chance.
Everyone: Yaaayyyyy!!!! *they all start to head down stairs when Dick gets an alert on his phone*
Dick: Actually, this is going to need to wait. Cass and Tim, come with me. I’ll alert Babs and Kate.
Jason: Why, what’s up?
Dick: There’s been a murder at Blackgate.
Batman, Batwoman, Batgirl, Red Robin, Orphan, and Commissioner Gordon
Jim: Batman and, wow there are a lot of you!
Batman: We want to try and get this over with as soon as possible.  
Jim: Very well. Victim is Julian Gregory Day, better known as Calendar Man. The body was found at 10:15. He left his cell at 10 to meet with the D.A. to talk about getting a reduced sentence. Both of the prison guards who were escorting Julian Day were knocked out during the attack. All of the camera’s were out, too.
Batwoman: The marks on his neck suggest that he was strangled and can’t quite tell but there’s something under his fingernails. He couldn’t have saw this coming but he definitely tried to put up a fight.
Batman: Okay, Batgirl and Orphan, lets have you head to the morgue with the diener and see if they could find out what’s under his finger nails. Batwoman, question Hugo Strange. Go through the audio files and see what you can find. Red Robin, you and I will see what any of the inmates in the cell block know. Jim, order your men to check the other camera monitors for anything suspicious.
Jim: I’m not one of your......
Batman: *glares at Jim Gordon*
Jim: I could figure out your identity any time I want. 
Batman: *smirks* Is that a promise?
Jim: It’s a door I’m willing to keep closed unless you cross the line.
Batwoman
Something she didn’t mention at the crime scene was that there was traces of reddish brown hair, so that points fingers at James Gordon Jr, Clock King, Edward Nigma, and Roxanne Sutton. Kate has her suspicions, but as of right now everyone is a suspect.
Hugo Strange: Hello Batwoman. How may I assist you?
Batwoman: I need to know about a few of your patients.
Hugo Strange: You know I can not tell you much I am.....
Batwoman: I am familiar with the confidentiality agreement. I need to know about Julian Day.
Hugo Strange: Poor guy. It’s a shame what happened to him. His most recent audio files are all yours. You’ll find the information you need in there.
Batwoman walked out of the room and began listening to the files in the secret Batcave in Blackgate.
Batgirl and Orphan
Batgirl: *walks into the door* Ugh, what is that smell?
Orphan: Rotting goat sex.
Batgirl: *burst out laughing* What?
Orphan: Rotting goat sex. 
Batgirl: What made you say that?
Orphan: Red Hood told me that’s the name of the yellow squares you put on sandwiches. The ones that go bad over time and smell like this room.
Batgirl: Okay, don’t listen to Red Hood anymore. It’s called cheese Orphan.
Orphan: Cheese. Okay. Got it.
Batgirl: So, how are you enjoying quarantine in the mansion.
Orphan: It’s not bad. Been sparring a lot. 
Batgirl: Who exactly? You’re not hurting my boyfriend right?
Orphan: Nope, but I kicked Helena’s butt a few times.
Batgirl: WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU JUST SAY!!!
Coroner: *walks out* Hey, so the.... Sorry, am I interrupting something.
Batgirl: No. Tell us about the body.
Coroner: Okay so prior to his death it seems the victim was drugged with a depressant. Obviously slowing his reactions. Underneath his fingernails are threads from the string that was used strangle him and some dead skin cells.
Batgirl: There’s not a lot of options for strings except for shoelaces, and unless someone has a very old shoelace, that means the string had to have come from outside the prison.
Coroner: Correct, the threads are definitely not made from the same material as the shoelaces.
Orphan: Anything else.
Coroner: Yes, there was some short white hairs found on his body which is odd, but probably from facial hair or eyebrows.
Batgirl: Thanks! Let us know when you have an idea who those skin cells belong to. *both Barbara and Cassandra start walking away* Tell Red Robin what we found out.
Orphan: But we’re supposed to report to Batman.
Batgirl: Fuck Batman.
Selina, Bruce, Lucius, and Alfred
At Wayne Tower
Bruce: *starring at his computer screen* If I buy this company, then I can buy a donut, and the cosmic donut will make me live forever, plus more profits, because three coffees plus one donut equals one Tim. *Lucius Fox knocks on the door* Do you want to build a snowman?!
Lucius: Mister Wayne, we need to talk.
Bruce: What is it Lucius?
Alfred: You’re overworking yourself.
Bruce: *looks up from his computer* Dad, I mean Alfred, Selina, what are you doing here?
Selina: No simple way to say it but this is an intervention.
Bruce: I don’t need an intervention.
Selina: Bruce, it’s been a bit over two months since quarantine began. You’re company is doing just fine. Don’t you think you deserve a break?
Bruce: With a little less help from Red Tim, I need to work as much as possible to get the cosmic coffee back on track. The hacker a few weeks back did a bit of damage.
Alfred: Master Bruce, even the Batman needs a break from time to time. Isn’t that the real reason you have Master Dick running around in the Batsuit instead of you?
Bruce: No! *Bruce takes a moment to think it all over* Partially.
Lucius: You are putting to much pressure on yourself. You keep on talking nonsense and are obviously sleep deprived.
Bruce: No! I’ve haven’t put enough pressure on myself since I became Batman. Once Batman came into the picture I didn’t focus on the company any longer. And I’m not sleep deprived, I’ve slept 4 hours last night! I’m getting more than enough sleep.
Lucius: You had more of an impact on the company then you think. If it weren’t for you acting as a real CEO, we wouldn’t be doing a going green initiative, there wouldn’t be a yearly fund going out to local orphanages, you created a functioning way for employees to work from home while increasing productivity. I can go on for hours about the positive things you have done as Bruce Wayne.
Selina: You have done so much. Come home, sleep. Enjoy time with you’re family.
Bruce: I can’t do that, I can do more. I can help other companies, too.
Alfred: I remember one time, it was when you turned 5, your father was supposed to be at the hospital. However, the day before he had worked all day to make his patients feel better, so he could spend the next day with you. He wouldn’t have missed your birthday even if it would cause the end of the world. Master Thomas knew the importance of taking time off to spend time with his family. It is time that you do the same.
Bruce begins to tear up. He reflects on how often his father worked day and night, but regardless how often he worked, he always had time for him and his mother. He knew his father loved him with all his heart. Then he thought of Alfred. He wasn’t really his father but Bruce always saw him as one after his parents died. Alfred loves him as much as he loves his own family. 
Bruce: *rolls his chair back and walks over to hug Alfred* Thank you Alfred.
Alfred: Anytime sir.
Batman, Batwoman, Batgirl, Red Robin, and Orphan
*In the Blackgate Batcave*
Batman: What did we find?
Orphan: The threads under Julian’s finger nails came from a string outside of the prison meaning that it could be one of the employees who’ve killed him. Skin cells under his nails are being scanned now, and white hairs were found on his body. Also cheese is not called goat sex.
Red Robin: WHAT! *Dick and Tim start laughing hysterically* 
Batman: Why would you think that!
Batgirl: Jason told her. That’s beside the point though.
Red Robin: *whispers to Dick* What did you do?
Batman: *whispers to Tim* I don’t know.
Batgirl: Stop whispering, we can all see you!
Batman: Got it. Kate what did you find?
Batwoman: Day was in an extreme state of paranoia before he died. Talks about how he was going to tell the D.A. about corruption in Blackgate.
Batman: Interesting, did he say anyone’s name?
Batwoman: It’s not clear, but I would assume so.
Batman: That makes sense. When Red Robin and I interviewed his cellmate, Drury Walker, he said he was starting to suspect something was going to happen. He had suspicions that James Jr. was going to kill him.
Batwoman: If I had to assume, I would say the same. I noticed a large sum of reddish brown hair at the scene where the body was found.
Batgirl: There was white hair found on the body though. With Day being strangled the killer would be close enough to possibly have a few hairs fall onto his body.
Batman: Do you have a sample?
Batgirl: Obviously.
Batman: Okay, I’ll program the computer to scan it. I know it’s not ideal but we’ll find out in twelve hours. Tim, Cass, and Kate, go update Commissioner Gordon. Babs, do you mind if we talk for a moment.
Batgirl: Sure, if you feel like doing so now.
Batman: *takes off the cowl and mask* What’s wrong? 
Batgirl: How could you not tell me Helena was staying at the mansion!
Batman: I didn’t want you to overreact.
Batgirl: How could I not! One of your ex girlfriends is sleeping under the same roof you are!
Batman: Look, this conversation is a bit more complicated than I anticipated so we’ll talk more about it later.
Batgirl: You know what, do yourself one better and just don’t talk to me at all. *Barbara places her mask back on as she storms out*
Red Robin: *sneaks out from behind a door* I swear I totally wasn’t eavesdropping, but that sounded like it could have gone better.
Batman: Yeah, it could have. *Dick than walks out pulling the cowl over his head and placing his mask back on*
Batman and Batwoman
Batman: *knocks on the door*
Hugo Strange: Hello Batman, Batwoman! How may I assist you?
Batman: We have some more questions to ask you.
Hugo Strange: Please, come inside!
Batman: How has James Jr. been doing in his sessions?
Hugo Strange: He has been doing very well! Obviously he had to spend a small period in solitary for killing his cellmates but he is getting better. If he is a prime suspect you may look into his files.
Batwoman: When did you two last meet?
Hugo Strange: Yesterday.
Batman: When did you two conspire the death of Julian Day?
Hugo Strange: I’m sorry, what are you talking about?
Batwoman: *grabs Hugo Strange by the shirt and lifts him* DON’T PLAY GAMES WITH US STRANGE! ANSWER THE QUESTION!
Hugo Strange: I swear I don’t know what you’re talking about!
Batman: We saw that you transferred Day to Gordon’s cell! He has killed every cellmate he’s had! You were sentencing him to death!
Batwoman starts to shake Hugo Strange violently until a gun shot is heard from across the room. 
Batgirl, Red Robin, and Orphan
James Jr.: Hey Batgirl! I see you’re walking again, isn’t that such a neat surprise.
Red Robin: Shut up, James!
Batgirl: James, we want to know what happened?
James Jr.: ..........
Batgirl: Answer my question asshat!
James Jr.: Whoa little sis... I want to stay I was told to shut up!
Batgirl: Do you realize what’s happening?
James Jr.: I’m being interrogated.
Batgirl: You’re going to be transferred to Arkham. If you confess your time there could be reduced! 
James Jr.: Fine... I confess...... I cut open your teddy bear and filled it with razor blades when we were kids.
Batgirl flips the table and pins James to the wall, punching him in the head multiple times. Orphan then runs in, trying to help Red Robin to get Batgirl to stop punching James Jr.
Batgirl: Rot in fucking Arkham for all I care! You should have been sent there to begin with!
Batgirl, Red Robin, and Orphan begin to walk out the door before James Jr. lying on the floor yells.
James Jr.: WAIT! It wasn’t me, I promise!
Batgirl: Doubtful.
James Jr.: Red Robin, come on. I know you’re going to give me a chance. Hear me out.
Red Robin: Batgirl, let’s give him.....
Batgirl: NO! HE HAD HIS CHANCE! HE DECIDED TO WASTE IT!
Orphan: Batgirl. Please.
Batgirl: *stops in the hallway* Fine.
A few minutes later Red Robin is in the interrogation room with James Jr. with Orphan.
Red Robin: James Jr. Did you kill Julian Day?
James Jr.: No.
Off in the distance they all hear the gunshot from Hugo Strange’s office.
James Jr.: And there’s my proof.
Batman, Batwoman, Batgirl, Red Robin, and Orphan
Red lines flow down Hugo Strange’s face as blood pours from the hole in his forehead. Batman and Batwoman turn around to see who fired the shot, and are shocked to see Eduardo Flamingo. Batwoman drops the dead body of Hugo Strange as Flamingo fires three shots at both Batman and Batwoman. Both are unfazed by this and punch him in the face, causing him to fall back on the floor.
Batman: *picks up Flamingo* Who hired you?
Eduardo Flamingo: *cough* You just watched him die.
The GCPD arrives to the room and arrest Flamingo.
Commissioner Gordon: Freeze! You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you.
He had confessed to everything. The murders, the contract Hugo Strange offered him to kill Day. No details was left out. By the time they all left the prison it was 12:30 in the morning.
Batman: Batgirl, let’s talk. 
Batgirl: I don’t want to talk.
Batman: Babs, if you won’t talk, then listen, please? *tears start to fill his eyes and make their way down his mask*
Batgirl: If anything, you listen to me *tears streak down her mask as well* I don’t know where I stand in this situation, and right now I really don’t care! For the time being don’t talk to me. *she takes out her grappling hook and leaves the four other members just standing there*
Batwoman: I’m not going to get too involved in this, but you know if you need to talk Dick, let me know.
Batman: Thank you.
The two hug and then go their separate ways.
Dick and Barbara
When they got home, Dick reached for his phone and started to text Barbara. He tried to explain how he never knew Helena was going to show up. How she showed up out of nowhere. How she is his everything, his world, and he doesn’t blame her for being skeptical but he still loves her. 
Barbara doesn’t want to read a word of Dick’s excuses. This has happened before when Dick was dating Koriand’r and Zatanna. Even before they were in a relationship, she knew he at one point was seeing multiple girls at a time. She doesn’t know if he is really sleeping with Helena behind her back, but she knows that she can’t trust Dick for the time being.
After his shower he walked to his room where he saw Helena laying on his bed in her costume. She then tosses his Nightwing costume at him.
Helena: Hey Dick, how about you throw that on and we do a bit of role play.
Dick: Cool, I’m into that. I’ll be Nightwing, the guy who loves Batgirl so much, and you’ll be Huntress, who sleeps on the first floor. You’re going to leave my room and I’ll lock my door for the rest of the night.
Helena: Rough night, lover?
Dick: I told you to stop calling me that.
Helena: I know, but I love it.
Dick: Helena, please just leave.
Dick just lied on his bed staring at his phone, wishing that Barbara would text him back. Fifteen minutes later he hears a knock at his door.
Bruce: Hey Dick! Are you okay?
Dick: What is this? Am I dreaming?
Bruce: No. I heard what happened. Just know if you ever want to talk about it, you can come to me. 
Dick: Thanks Bruce!
Bruce: Want to watch Avatar as a family? Damian told me how you talked him into watching it. I think it’s a fun idea!
Dick: *smirks* Sure!
They both walk downstairs to the media room as they see everyone down there already. He noticed Helena was sitting at the far end of the room so Dick considered sitting by Tim and Stephanie who seemed to have been chatting it up, but decided against it and sat near Damian. 
Dick: *leans over towards Damian*
Damian: Don’t you even think about it Grayson!
Dick: *wraps his arms around Damian* Come on, you know you love my hugs!
Damian: I will cut off your arms in your sleep,
Dick: You’re so adorable when you think you’re threatening.
The episode begins to play and everyone fell silent. As the second one ended everyone looked at Cassandra and Damian to get their reaction.
Cassandra: That was awesome!!! Let’s watch one more!
Damian: It is surprisingly entertaining. A little silly but intriguing.
Jason: WE KNEW YOU WOULD LIKE IT SUCKER!
Tim: One of the greatest shows ever!

Girl I Met On The Internet, 4/? (Crystal x Gigi) - Strawberry
Summary: Gigi and Crystal discuss things in person. Elites Only also gains a new member.
As soon as Crystal realized what was happening, she exited the Twitter app. The girl she had been talking to for months, the girl she had shared so many things with was Georgina Goode, who happened to be best friends with the girl who hated Crystal for no reason, because of course this would happen to Crystal.  
Crystal’s mind was racing, her brain instantly jumping to the worse case scenarios. Did Gigi know she was talking to Crystal this entire time? Was this entire thing just a ploy orchestrated by Dahlia to get dirt on her? Georgina was not gay, but Gigi was. Did Gigi even like her, or was Crystal just an experiment that no one would ever find out about because it was over the internet? She knew none of these theories made sense, she didn’t think Gigi had any idea who she was until now.
Gigi was freaking out. She had messaged Crystal, attempting to explain herself, but she had gotten no reply. Crystal hadn’t even read them. Panicking, she messaged Jan, hoping she would be online.
gigi: jan oh my fuckigng
jan!: WHAT HAPPENED? ARE YALL GFS??
gigi: …no
jan!: and why is that?
gigi: she literally goes to my school she sent me a selfie and i sent one back without saying that we’re irls and she just said what the fuck and now she wont message me back
gigi: i know u don’t like how rude dahlia is so im sorry i have to mention her but she’s literally the girl dahlia picks on for no reason i didn’t even know her name was crystal
jan!: W H A T 
gigi: what do i do
jan!: girl like i know?? this doesn’t usually happen to people.
jan!: when do you usually see crystal
gigi: i see her in the halls sometimes. she told me before that she stays mostly in the art wing tho
jan!: ok. tomorrow  go to the art wing and find her. talk to her. she’s probably not responding bc im sure it’s not a good feeling to find out the girl she’s been flirting with for months is best friends with the girl bullying her
gigi: god i feel so bad about that. i only stopped it once and i feel so bad
jan!: i love you but you’re a fucking idiot, gigi. you really are. go talk to her tomorrow and do better.

The next morning arrived faster than Crystal wanted it to. She was dreading going to school, knowing she couldn’t avoid Gigi forever. Thankfully, they did not have any classes together, but crossing paths was inevitable. The thought of seeing Gigi, even from across a crowded hallway, made her want to sob.
Her stomach started hurting because of her anxiety, but convincing her mother to let her stay home didn’t go over well. Crystal had convinced her mother at first, but as soon as she felt Crystal’s forehead to see if Crystal was running a temperature, which she wasn’t, she had insisted that Crystal stop pretending and get ready for school. She even drove Crystal to school instead of having her walk to make sure Crystal didn’t skip.
Crystal walked straight to the bathroom in the art wing. It was smaller, with only two stalls and the cell service was terrible; but it was vacant for the most part. She often stayed there when she wanted to skip class, and the only person she had ever encountered was Aiden, a shy girl from her art class. If Gigi was looking for her, this bathroom would be the last place she would look.
She had spent the morning sketching and listening to One Direction. She was in the zone, barely noticing when the door opened. Crystal didn’t bother looking up when she felt someone’s presence there, assuming that it was Aiden. “Hey, Aiden.”
“Uh,” Gigi started, “Crystal?”
Crystal’s head shot up, her eyes wide as she looked at a very relieved looking Gigi. “Oh, shit. Hey.” 
Gigi walks over to her, kneeling down to be at the same height as Crystal. “I know you’re probably upset with me, but can we talk? Please? I’ve been looking for you all period.”
Crystal nodded, moving her backpack to make a spot for Gigi to sit down. “Sorry I said what the fuck and dipped, I really didn’t know what else to do.”
“I’m the one who should be sorry. I’m going to sound like such a bitch but I didn’t even know your name until last night.” Gigi had never been good with names, only being able to remember her online friends’ names in the beginning because their name was attached to everything they did. Crystal had been known to Gigi as ‘Art Girl’ until last night.
Crystal had to laugh at that. “It’s fine. I don’t think Dahlia knows what my name is either, and I’ve lived in her mind rent free for years!”
“Speaking of her, I’m so sorry I only stopped her once. I didn’t want to get into it but I realize now that ignoring it is just as bad as joining in. Especially seeing the effects it has on you first hand, and now that I know I could’ve helped.”
Last night, Crystal gave Gigi a run down on every single color she had ever dyed her hair, and she had mentioned that she stopped dying her hair once she got into high school because she didn’t want to stick out even more, in fear of getting treated worse. It had made Gigi sad then, and knowing she could’ve changed that made her feel even worse. 
“Yeah, I don’t know how this is going to impact your real life, but no matter what I just hope you will step in next time.” 
Gigi reached over to grab Crystal’s hand and squeezed it gently. “I will never let her hurt you ever again. I care about you so much.”
They sat in silence for a few moments.
“Can I tell you something?” Crystal asked quietly, avoiding Gigi’s glance. 
“Of course. You can tell me anything.”
“I really like you. I know it’s probably weird now, since you’re not out and I’m not positive you feel the same, but I feel like I should tell you.”
Gigi smiled, placing her fingers under Crystal’s chin, lifting them up to make Crystal make eye contact with her. “I’ve been hoping you would say that.”
Crystal blushed at the contact. “Really?”
“Of course! You’re the most interesting person I’ve ever met. I would be such a fool not to like you back.”
The bell rang, interrupting their moment. Gigi pulled away, pulling her phone out of her jacket pocket to check the time. “Fuck. I have a test this period.”
“It’s okay. We can talk about this later,” Crystal reassured her, standing up even though she had no intention to go to her next class, “I can send you my address and we could meet after school?”
Gigi nodded, pulling Crystal into a tight hug. “This is the most emotion I’ve ever shown at once. I thought it was going to be scary but I feel so much better. Thank you for talking to me. If I was you I don’t think I would’ve.”
“I could never not talk to you.”

Crystal decided she would stay in the bathroom until lunch. It was mostly out of laziness, as her Gigi related anxiety was long gone. Doing academics was the last thing she felt like doing now. 
She had plenty of entertainment, she had missed a lot on Twitter, and had two thousand new messages from the group chat, even though she was gone for less than a day.
crystal: im skipping class what’s up ladies
jan!: hi crystal!!!
jaida: girl where have you been?? my world has been so empty
nicky: wtf jaida stop acting like i don’t exist
crystal: ehh personal things happened so i was ia. i dyed my hair green last night tho!! look!!
jan!: omg you’re so pretty
jaida: HOT HOT HOT
nicky: crystal. marriage now
heidi: omg girl you look so good!! i love your leprosy print shirt
heidi: leprosy
heidi: girl how do you spell lepord
heidi: leopard
heidi: there we go
nicky: you did it!
jaida: so proud of you
She was relieved they didn’t question her further, but she couldn’t help but be curious about what their reactions would be if they knew what was going on. Talking to the girls again made time go by extremely fast, before Crystal knew it the bell rang, declaring it lunch time.
She hadn’t eaten breakfast due to her anxiety from this morning, and just realized how hungry she was. Collecting her stuff, she exited the bathroom and headed down to the cafeteria. 
When she was in line to pay for a slice of pizza and a bag of pretzels, she had caught the attention of Dahlia, who didn’t hesitate to express how she felt about her new hair. 
“Ew, who in their right mind would dye their hair green?” Dahlia loudly asked Gigi, making sure Crystal was in ear shot. 
Before Crystal could defend herself, Gigi spoke up. “Dahlia, can you please shut the fuck up? No one cares what you think about Crystal’s hair, it looks fine. I can hardly tolerate you being rude anymore.”
“Georgina, what the fuck? I’m not rude!” Dahlia whined, making Crystal smile. She had been slightly surprised that it happened so soon, but she was happy Gigi stepped in.
Crystal paid and made sure to wave at the girls on her way out. Gigi waved back, and Dahlia looked the other way, her arms crossed.

The rest of the day was painfully long. Every minute felt like an hour, Crystal was even bored during her art class. She couldn’t wait to go home and talk to Gigi.
She zoned out while she was walking home, wondering what could happen tonight. Crystal would like to think that Gigi was about to kiss her before they got interrupted, or maybe she was going to ask Crystal to be her girlfriend. Anything could happen, and Crystal couldn’t really tell how she felt about it.
When she got home, she tidied up her room. Her bed was unmade, her dirty clothes were on the floor, and a couple dirty cups littered the top of her night stand. It wasn’t too bad, Crystal would usually consider this clean for her, but it made her feel slightly embarrassed now. She had the urge to fix it, even though Gigi probably wouldn’t have cared too much if Crystal left it the way it was.
After her room was clean, she still had some time to spare before Gigi would be on her way. She headed to the group chat, curious to see what chaos they were up to currently.

crystal: who are we adding?
nicky: JACKIE
jan!: NO WE WILL NOT BE ADDING HER

Crystal was so invested in the train wreck going on, only focusing on the messages sent by Jan and Jackie that she didn’t notice Gigi had come online until she got a notification that Gigi sent her a private message. 
gigi: im on ur street :)
Crystal ran to the door, opening it the second she saw Gigi step onto the porch. Gigi jumped, not expecting it. “Someone’s eager to see me, huh?”
Crystal blushed, letting Gigi in. “Shut up.”
Gigi kicked off her shoes and sat her backpack down next to them before letting Crystal lead her to her room. It was colorful, lots of posters and canvases covering the hot pink walls. “This is very you. I like it!”
“Thank you!” Crystal exclaimed, taking a seat on her bed and patting the space next to her. Gigi gladly sat next to her. 
“This is just really weird. 24 hours ago, I didn’t know who you were and now you’re in my bed. It’s kind of overwhelming,” Crystal blurted out, making Gigi frown. “But not in a bad way!” She clarified, “It’s just a lot to process.”
“Oh, yeah. It is a big change. Last night, I was going to ask you to be my girlfriend, but that obviously did not happen.” Gigi blushed, grabbing a throw pillow from Crystal’s bed to hide her face in. 
Crystal took the pillow away from her, sitting it next to them, “Do you still want me to be your girlfriend?”
Gigi nodded. “Yeah, but I don’t know if we should become official yet. We know each other so well, but I feel like we need to see if we vibe in person.”
“I don’t think we will have an issue with that, but I agree. Let’s take it slow. But can I try something first?”
Gigi grinned, “Yeah, what?”
“This.” Crystal whispered, leaning forward until her lips pressed against Gigi’s. Gigi kissed her back, wrapping her arms around Crystal’s neck and pulling Crystal even closer.

Summary: Tim remembered getting stabbed in vivid detail. The images were horrifying on their own, but together they formed a sick film that played on loop in Tim’s mind. Even after waking up the next morning, and the morning after that, he kept wondering: why am I alive?
Tim remembered getting stabbed in vivid detail.
In a job like this, where you either saved the day or ruined it all, he was used to cuts and scrapes and wounds. He anticipated them even, which the first aid kid he kept in his utility belt could attest to. But getting stabbed that night in the desert was something else.
The sound of steel through flesh. A cruel whisper. Blood, warm and sticky. Sand in his nose and eyes. Cool near-winter wind that ruffled through his hair. Dirt under fingernails. The weight of a body dragged behind him. Brick walls with metal stairs. A soft bed, with downy pillows stained rust.
The images were horrifying on their own, but together they formed a sick film that played on loop in Tim’s mind. Even after waking up the next morning, and the morning after that, he kept wondering: why am I alive?
This was a question he’d been asking himself for longer than he cared to admit. He was alive because no one had managed to kill him yet, and no more. If the universe had its way, he would be dead eight times over. Tim was just lucky, he supposed. But not lucky enough to escape the nightmares.
He remembered while attempting to sleep in the lavish jail cell Ra’s al Ghul concocted for him. He remembered while training with high level assassins, every time they went for a jab at his stomach. He remembered when Tam hugged him, and his reflex was to make sure she didn’t have a knife. He remembered on his first night back in Gotham, when he had to update his medical records to say “Patient has no spleen after a traumatic injury to the abdomen.”
The nightmares were the worst. They played out the scene in gory detail, each time with a new sort of reverence for Tim’s suffering. It wasn’t always the Widower who stabbed him; sometimes it was his father, or Jason, or Damian, or the mugger that killed Bruce’s parents. On bad nights, it was Bruce. On worse nights, it was Stephanie.
The nightmares persisted long after he defeated Ra’s al Ghul at Wayne Enterprises, long after Bruce finally returned and Tim was welcomed home with open arms. No, they lasted for months--every night a sick remembrance.

The first time he sparred with Dick after ending Ra’s plot, he used the new skills he picked up at the Cradle. At first they traded blows lazily, wearing down the floor by walking the same steps of a familiar dance. Then Tim dared to spin out--try one little move--and the game was afoot.
Tim didn’t pretend that he was better than Dick--he knew he wasn’t. But he had more range and was the better strategist, so at least their spars were interesting. They danced around the mat, neither submitting. Like all of their practices, it went until someone gave in or passed out. The Waynes never called out.
Dick went for Tim’s shoulder with his escrima sticks, which Tim blocked with his bo staff. By the time he registered the other stick moving toward his stomach, it was too late.
Forgoing all sense of etiquette, Tim roared and swung out with his staff, trying not to relish in the feeling of it connecting with Dick’s head.
“Jesus, Tim, what was that?” Dick’s voice floated from somewhere above. “I know we didn’t specify ‘no headshots’ but it seems like a giv- holyshitareyouokay?” It was then that Tim realized he was sitting on the ground, his head between his knees and his hands protecting his neck. In a way, he looked like the tornado drills they made him do at school, even though Gotham never had tornadoes. His body didn’t feel entirely real, like instead of inhabiting it like always, he was merely borrowing it for a second.
Dick’s voice, no doubt saying something reassuring, murmured in his ear. The words all blended together in a soup of pleasant sounds, one that Tim didn’t even attempt to decipher. Somewhere in the haze, he heard the telltale click of the comms, followed a few minutes later by heavy footfalls.
Bruce’s gruff voice took over for Dick’s soothing one, asking him questions that he didn’t know how to answer. Even if he could, he wasn’t entirely sure his mouth was still a mouth, let alone one that could form words. Instead, his brain gave him a front-row seat for the premiere of his least favorite movie in existence, where Dick stabbed Tim in the abdomen, his face contorted into something evil and totally unlike Dick. The Not-Dick didn’t stop after the first time, of course. Instead the scene rewinded over and over again, like a broken film from a museum about the tragedies of war.
Tim didn’t remember anything past that.

Tim woke up in his bed at the Manor, his heartbeat thunderous but slow. He opened bleary eyes to see Bruce sitting in the armchair near his window, reading a copy of the Wendy the Werewolf Stalker comic tie-ins Bart had given him last year for Hanukkah.
“Good morning. Or, should I say, evening. You almost slept for a full day,” Bruce said warmly, closing the book.
Tim didn’t return his tone. “Why are you here?” He demanded, clutching his blankets where they fell on his lap.
“Do you remember what happened last night?” Bruce avoided the question with trained ease, something Tim saw much too often in himself.
“I- Yeah. A little.” He remembered Dick stabbing him, but that couldn’t be Dick, right? They were in the desert, and it would take at least a day to get from the Syrian Desert to Gotham. His hand wandered over to his stomach. No open wounds or bandages, but there was a long scar.
“You disassociated. Do you know what that means?” Bruce asked, and Tim nodded mechanically. “We think that something during sparring practice triggered a trauma response.”
Tim heard the words, but he wasn’t sure his brain was following all the way.
“I’m fine, B. I just freaked out a little. No big deal.”
Bruce leveled his dad-stare at Tim. “Tim, with all due respect, that was not ‘freaking out a little.’ You were curled up in a ball on the mat, refusing to speak to us. When we managed to coax you into a sitting position, you attacked me. We had to put you in a safe hold until you calmed down.”
Tim opened his mouth, but no words came out.
“I think we need to talk about this. I understand if you don’t feel safe yet, you’ve been through a lot over the past year. I love you and I want to be here for you, but if a professional would help, we can do that too. Dick knows this guy in Metropolis-”
“No!” The word was out of Tim’s mouth before he could stop it, followed by a torrent of others. “I don’t need a shrink. I’m fine. Can I leave now? Or are you going to keep me prisoner like he did?”
“Of course not,” Bruce said, his voice heartbreakingly gentle. “This is your home, Tim. You can come and go as you please. However, I think we need to talk about-”
“Cool. Later.” Tim rolled out of bed and tugged on shoes and a jacket as Bruce tried to reason with him. They both knew that he could try to keep Tim here, either with logic or the threat of getting grounded, but neither would work. At his best, Tim was tenacious. At his worst, he was stubborn.
Tim traipsed down the grand staircase as Bruce followed behind him. Damian glowered at him from the sitting room, but at least he didn’t say anything. Dick was nowhere to be found. Tim pushed his way out of the manor, a small smile of satisfaction crossing his face when the door slammed and cut off Bruce’s pleas. It reminded him of every bad teen movie he’d ever watched, except the exhausted dad and pushy mom were replaced by Batman. Wasn’t that every kid’s dream?

He wandered through Bristol township, avoiding the spots he knew the paparazzi liked to frequent. Wouldn’t that be a million-dollar picture: Bruce Wayne’s high-school-dropout-turned-CEO son walking through the sea of McMansions in converse, a kid’s tracker bracelet, pyjama pants, and Cass’s purple NorthFace.
He was on some cul-de-sac where every house looked the same when he heard the telltale swish of someone following him. He didn’t turn around, just kept up his leisurely pace. Either they’d announce themselves, or they wouldn’t.
He got his answer when a hand snaked over his chest and a body pressed against his back, stopping him in his tracks.
“Hello, Detective,” Scarab whispered in his ear, and Tim’s veins turned to ice. Her hand cupped his face, and she slid around to his front. Tim didn’t believe in God, but he had no doubt that she was Satan incarnate.
“I have a gift for you,” she purred, her hands tracing his sides and back. He didn’t dare respond. “It’s from your friend.”
Tim swore his heart stopped. Ra’s al Ghul didn’t send gifts, he sent warnings. And threats. And death. Which is why he wasn’t entirely surprised when Scarab drove a knife into his chest with a sort of tender ruthlessness. She guided him to the ground, left a ghost of a kiss on his temple, and stepped out of view.
Tim lay gasping on the pavement, trying not to bleed out. His fingertips brushed the bracelet, weakly holding down to send out a tracking signal. If he was lucky, they’d see it. If not, then he’d die. It was that simple.
The stars here were dimmer than the ones in the desert. It was all the light pollution, he knew. Same stars, but an altogether different sky. There was a metaphor there somewhere, but he had lost too much blood to focus enough to find one.
His eyelids felt heavy, and it took everything in him to keep them open. Bruce would be here soon. He had to be. He was Batman, that’s what he did.
As Tim staggered through each breath, he couldn’t help but remark the irony of it all. He’d spent all this time worried about one old wound that he hadn’t seen the next one coming.

Escape Doom || Layla and Winston
When: 28/09/2020 Who: @laylacooke & @danetobelieve Where: Escape Doom Summary: Winston and Layla try to have some fun. They don’t succeed. Warnings: gore content warning
It had been a good two months since she had spent time with Winston, and for that, Layla felt bad. But today was their day. She was going to catch up and find out what had been going on in their life and maybe get the scoop on them and Rio. And what better way to bond than at an escape room aptly named Escape Doom. It was one adventure she had yet to experience and as she waited outside for Winston to arrive, she couldn’t help but google the place on her phone to see what it was all about. The reviews online had been mixed, but mostly on the good side, and it was an escape room. It’s not like they would be trapped forever, and the carnival had left town several nights ago, so she knew for a fact, it had nothing to do with that creepy place. Picking up on their scent, the teenage werewolf put her phone away and waited for them to arrive.
Winston was feeling cautiously optimistic, they weren’t sure if things were really going to keep running this smoothly. This was White Crest after all. To be perfectly honest it was pretty rare that anything really ran smoothly for more then a week here. But Winston was not one to complain about a good thing. As they arrived at Escape Doom, Winston had to admit that they weren’t sure if this place was the right thing for them, but they were all about trying new things and hopefully Layla would enjoy it too. Waving, they smiled as they strode over. “This place looks … great,” they raised their eyebrows wondering why they had suggested this place and not somewhere that was slightly less ominous. “Are you doing okay?” Winston asked as they made their way into the building. 
Layla waved as she saw Winston get closer. Escape rooms had been something she had wanted to try before, but had never got the chance. White Crest probably hadn’t been the ideal spot to try such an intense game, but then again, she couldn’t keep living her life in fear or regret. Giving the building a once over at Winston’s comment, she laughed, “It’s got character. I’ll give it that much. And nothing could be as bad as that nightmarish carnival that was just here, right?” She followed them inside, “I’m doing, okay.” She didn’t feel like mentioning she had been arrested. Of course this was a small town, so there was a good chance Winston already knew. “What about you? How are things with Rio?” She looked back to them with a smile.
Working in the WCPD didn’t mean that Winston knew everything or even anything about who had been arrested or not, so far they hadn’t heard of any run ins that Layla had had with the law. “Of course not, the fact that this is a staple part of White Crest isn’t terrifying either, nor is the fact that this place quite literally has Doom in the title.” Winston was doing their best to be glib, whether or not that was really the most sensible thing for them to be doing wasn’t something that they were particularly considering. “Rio?” Winston shrugged and smiled, “They’re good, we’re taking things real slow, but it’s good.” There was no rush. Winston stepped inside of the building and ordered them two tickets. “What sort of game do you want to play today?” the guy behind the counter asked curiously. “Shit, I hadn’t thought, you got a preference Layla?” 
Despite the fact that they were probably walking into another one of White Crest’s traps, Layla was going to try and be optimistic about the whole situation, “Slow is good. I’m glad to hear things are going well for the both of you. I suggested to Rio a while back about the possibility of a double date with you, him, Frankie, and me. I mean if you’re up for it.” She smiled. Moving to the counter, she stopped just behind Winston and looked up at the listed games on the wall. There were quite a few to choose from, “Uh, maybe 30’s Detective or Zombie Apocalypse? What level of difficulty were you thinking?” She had never done this before, so it was any guess as to how this day was going to go. She was just glad Winston would be by her side.
“Yeah, that would be really cute.” Winston and Frankie had talked a few times and it had always been fun, they would love to get to know all of them better and a double date wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world. “We’ll have to try and arrange something.” Winston wasn’t sure what they could do, but there was always time in White Crest. Sometimes you really had to face the music and sometimes you just had to do something to calm down and chill out. “Uh,” honestly Winston hadn’t considered difficulty, “I say lets do Zombie Apocalypse but lets do like a medium, because I really don’t know if I have the brain power to do anything above that.” Winston slipped the guy behind the booth some notes and he ushered them down a corridor and towards the escape room, giving a clearly well practiced speech. “Zombie Apocalypse escape rooms are … inventive,” Winston whispered to Layla. 
A smile came over Layla’s face at the idea of them all getting together. Double dates weren’t much, but it was a semblance that she was really starting to settle down and call White Crest home. “Perfect, because I don’t know if I have the actual brain cells to figure this out.” She leaned in towards Winston, “That they are. And this place surely has an exit door, if it gets to be too hard right?” There had to be a way out. The teenager wasn’t about to admit that she may or may not have been nervous, but as long as they could leave if they wanted to, she would be good, “So do you know anything about these places? I know you have to find clues to unlock doors and things right? But we both know this is one messed up town and nothing is ever as simple as it seems.” Would there, in fact, be real zombies lurking in the rooms? They were about to find out.
“Hopefully the two of us will be able to get enough brain cells to rub together, I’m not super super hopeful but I think we’ve got this.” Winston was of course joking. Layla was many things but stupid was not chief among them. “I feel like if anything goes wrong then we will be able to find a way out.” It might require them to blow some stuff up but Winston wasn’t really sure that they cared anymore. “They’re basically just meant to be a giant riddle I think?” Winston replied, “Like isn’t the point that there are a load of themed puzzles and stuff that you have to work through so that you can get to the end and escape the room?” Winston stepped inside of the room, which had bars across the room so that they could only get a third of the way across the room. There was a couple of boxes that looked like they should hold ammo and Winston was suddenly concerned that there might be something zombie like in here. “Although I’m starting to wish that we’d picked the 30s detective thing instead of the zombies, now that you make that point.” 
“You know, I think we just might. But I can’t guarantee that claws won’t come out if something scares me. I’m still learning how to control that part of myself.” Was this really a good idea, now that she had thought about it? Layla was thinking as a human, when she committed to joining Winston, not as a werewolf. Evil!Layla, if you wanted to call her that, had given her normal counterpart a little more control over her abilities, but the teenager could still be skittish. After all, look at all the bullshit that had happened within the few months she had been there, “Sounds about right, yeah. I know they had them back in Nashville, but not as intense. I’m making an assumption, by the way. I never actually made it inside one.” She stuck closely to Winston as they entered the room together, “My spidey senses may or may not be tingling right now. Is it too late to choose that 30s detective thing?” She looked to Winston with an uneasy smile. What were they getting themselves into?
“Hey, if you need to go a little bit … wolfy because something’s freaked you out then I won’t stop you.” Winston hadn’t told Layla everything about themselves yet. It wasn’t that they didn’t trust her or anything it was more that with Miriam involved they didn’t want her finding out about them being a magician and so keeping it from as many people as possible was the safest way to do that. “I mean, like I said this is my first time too, but it would make sense that there would be something fucked up if it was White Crest.” The usual anxious pit in Winston’s stomach was beginning to settle in and Winston wasn’t sure that they were all that keen to see where this really went. But they were already here and they were pretty sure that they had just heard the door lock behind them. “I think it might be too late yeah…” Winston looked at her and then at the room. There were doors on either side that looked remarkably flimsy. The sound of a bell rang through the room. “So does that mean that the game’s beg-” Winston’s sentence was cut off as a fist punched through one of the doors and a mottled zombie-fied hand reached through, “start looking for a way through these prison door things.” Winston scrambled over to one of the boxes and pried the lid off, looking for a key or anything. 
Wolfy. Considering going wolfy seemed to be on the fritz, Layla wasn’t too sure that either one of them should rely on her innate animal. But the circumstances with Miles had been different. He was a werewolf trying to attack her to bring out her inner wolf; a plan that hadn’t settled too well considering it took her back to the night she was bitten. But this was different. As long as werewolves didn’t pop out somewhere and yell ‘boo!’ she would hopefully be good to at least swat at a few things with her claws, if they were to make an appearance, “Wolfy. Got it.” With hesitation growing inside of her, she was just about to turn around and walk out, when she heard the click of the door. Even Winston couldn’t get out their sentence in time, which instantly filled Layla’s stomach with dread. But it was the fist coming through the door that solidified her regret, and with Winston’s instruction, she immediately began scanning the room for anything that would help them move on, as more fists and hands seemed to start coming through the door. “Winston, I think this was a bad idea.” No reason to worry yet. No reason to let Miss Wolfy out. Nope. Just stay calm, Layla. Stay calm.
“I’m not saying that you should or even that you have to, just do you.” Winston didn’t think that they were really the person who should be coaching anyone on their newly found or developed supernatural abilities. They were barely in control of their magic at the best of times and although they were getting more and more confident with it as time went on there was still a lot for them to learn. “You think this was a bad idea?” Winston wished that sarcasm wasn’t such an innate defense mechanism at times like this, “Of course it was a bad idea, there appear to be literal zombies punching through the door in an attempt to eat us and presumably our brains.” Winston wanted to tell the people who had made Escape Doom that this wasn’t fun and it also wasn’t accurate, but somehow writing a strongly worded yelp review at a time like this wasn’t something that Winston thought was particularly a priority. Scrambling over to the boxes of ammo, Winston began pulling them open. Unfortunately they weren’t filled with anything really. There was air but that was about it really. Swallowing, Winston looked around before pushing over a chair in their hurry to find literally anyway out of this, they spotted a key and grabbed it, throwing it to Layla who was by the door to the next part of the room as the door splintered open. “Try that!”
Layla side-eyed Winston as the sarcasm came off strong, but continued to hunt for anything that could free them from a room that would soon be full of zombies, “First, sarcasm isn’t going to get us out of here, and second, what the hell do you mean literal zombies?!” Were zombies actually a real thing here? She hadn’t seen one. At least she didn’t think she had. No one looked like the hands that were grabbing at her from the otherside of the door. But thank the moon, Winston had found some sort of key! Catching it, she pushed it into the lock and twisted, hearing the door unlock, and just in time too, as she felt the brush of zombie fleshing against her body, “It works!!!! Come on!!!!” Pushing the door open, she ran inside the next room, “Winston hurry!!!!!”
“It’s a defense mechanism, like humour in awkward situations, except when it’s a life threatening situation I get sarcastic and make very bad jokes.” Winston was already dashing towards the door as ‘zombies’ burst through into the escape room. “Zombies are real, yes, but they’re not zombies like in the walking dead, it’s complicated.” Suddenly the establishment's name of Escape Doom had a brand new meaning to it and Winston found themselves determined not to get caught between a proverbial rock and a hard place. Scarpering into the next room, Winston pushed against the jail door as zombies poured into the room. “Layla, can you help … me…. With this.” They grunted with exertion as they struggled to get the door to close with the veritable tidal wave of zombies pushing against them. 
She was halfway paying attention to them carrying on, just more so concerned with their well being of making it past the room filled with zombies. Layla did, however, catch the bit about zombies being real, but different? She would ask for an explanation later, but right now her attention was pulled to Winston’s request of getting the door closed. With her wolf strength, she forced back the horde with the heavy door and managed to get it secured just in time before they were the ones greeting guests when they entered one of Escape Doom’s many fucked up scenarios, “What do you mean real and not like the Walking Dead?” She was bent over trying to catch her breath, but she had let her head twist just enough in their direction to listen to the explanation that she was hoping they would give.
Winston was far from sure as to how they were going to really explain this to Layla. They were really starting to resent having to explain supernatural shit to everyone. It wasn’t exactly their job and they were pretty much as new to this as everyone else was. But somehow, Layla managed to shut the door and Winston was left panting for breath on the floor. Gulping down air, they wiped sweat from their brow. The hordes of zombies that had filled the room that they’d been previously held in were swarming the bars and grabbing at Layla and Winston. Their heart fluttered with fear and anxiety crept into their stomach as they tried to work out a way out of here, but so far they had nothing. “I mean, like, you know in the walking dead they look like shambling corpses that grind and gnash their teeth and try and eat your brains, well in real life they don’t look like that, they do eat brains but not just human brains I don’t think? I don’t really know, I’m not an expert but these … they’re something else.” Winston wasn’t sure what, and they weren’t sure that they wanted to know either. “We need to try and find a way out before they find a way through.”
Layla listened as Winston explained everything. This town really was something else, and now, the redhead had wondered if she had ever come across any of these so-called zombies. That’d be a mystery left for another day. Right now, they had the hordes of these scary fuckers to worry about. Straightening back up, she looked around the new room. The sounds of grunting and growling and hands grabbing and reaching forced Layla to take a few steps further into the room. The name of the game was escape, and she was already scanning the area, “You know, I would say maybe these are actors, but I don’t think that’s a very accurate description, so I’m just going to start looking for the next way out.” As she walked around the room, she noticed there wasn’t a door, except the one they had come through already, “I don’t want to panic you, Winston, but, um...there’s not a door. At least not one that I can see. Except that one.” She pointed back to the door they had both just successfully shut.
Winston heard something plop against the floor and saw a section of skin peeled off of one of the things on the other side of the bars and dripped onto the floor. “I don’t think that they’re actors, unless that is some of the most convincing stage makeup that I have ever seen.” Winston was sure that it wasn’t one of the most convincing pieces of stage makeup that they had ever seen. In White Crest -- so much of the time -- the most convincing answer was so often the most supernatural. Looking around the room, Winston’s brain ticked slowly, it was almost as if they could feel the cogs in their brain churning as they tried to work out the answer. “Ok, there’s no door but this is definitely an escape room. I know that it would be pretty White Crest to make something that there is literally no escape from but that doesn’t feel like this place's MO. If there is no traditional door then there has to be a different way out.” Looking up and around them, Winston chewed on their lip before spotting a small vent in the ceiling. “You see that? Do you think that could be our way out?” 
The young werewolf searched the area, but her eyes caught the same thing she was pretty sure Winston was seeing; skin falling off and landing with a splat on the floor. Layla almost wanted to gag, but was able to refrain. “You’re right, I don’t think they’re actors either, now that you mention it.” She quickly turned around, the smell of decaying flesh starting to get to her wolf senses now that she was actually letting it in. Her eyes scanned the area, until Winston told her to direct her attention towards the ceiling. Great. So not only did they have real life zombies trying to eat them, now they would have to play mission impossible and climb through a ceiling vent, “I don’t think it is. I know it is.” She glanced back to the creatures that seemed to be multiplying and pressing harder on the bars, “Need a boost?” She turned her sights back to Winston.
Gulping, Winston had to admit that they weren’t thrilled at the prospect of having to go through a terrifying vent but then again when wasn’t Winston terrified nowadays? They were sure that the ‘zombies’ were going to break through and eat them at any moment and if they did then Winston wouldn’t be able to do anything other then die. “Yes, I definitely need a boost.” Winston was ready to do whatever it took to get out of here alive and somehow they thought that might well be the point of this whole thing. As Layla boosted them up towards the vent they clawed the grate off of it and hauled themselves up awkwardly. Thank God Layla had given them a hand  with this because they did not have the upper body strength to do it on their own. Turning awkwardly in the cramped space, they dangled their hands for Layla. “Come on,” they said as they spotted the zombies clawing through the bars and starting to make their way through.
What had the two of them gotten into? Layla had just wanted to spend a fun day out with her friend and here they were facing zombies?! With all of her strength, she pushed Winston up into the vent. But not at the expense of having the walking dead on her heels. Her heart had been racing the entire time, but this had been the first time she had genuinely felt like she could get hurt, and as she jumped up and reached for Winston’s hands, the teenager felt one of the creatures grab onto her leg, “Winston!!!” Kicking with all her might while trying to pull herself up, she could feel the shift of the werewolf starting to come on. Tears flooded her eyes as her teeth began to change into fangs, “Hurry!!! I’m starting to shift!!!” If her claws came out, it was over. She would surely lose their grip and be a McZombie Meal minus the fries and drink. 
Winston was panicking. Of course this shit was happening. It only ever happened whenever they just wanted to have a nice day out. Hauling her up with all of their strength, Winston knew that this was life or death and honestly in the last month or so they had lost more then enough to not have to keep dealing with this bullshit. Roland had died and they weren’t going to let Layla be a victim too. “Ughhhghhh” they grunted a relatively unintelligible noise and pulled with all their might, managing to haul Layla up into the vent and panting from the effort. “Fuck this shit man,” Winston panted as they lay on their back gasping for air and wiping sweat from their brow, “why does this always happen? I swear to god I’m giving these motherfuckers like a 0 on yelp or something. This is the worst.” 
Trying to assist them all she could, Layla used what strength her body would allow to get up into the air vent. Today wasn’t going to be the day she died at the hands of some ugly ass zombies trying to make her lunch. And when she was laying right next to Winston, panting and trying to calm her racing heart, she knew she was officially ready to go home. Looking over at them, she winced as her teeth shifted back to normal, “I don’t know, but can we go? I don’t like this place. Anything that scares me enough to shift is bad news.” She remained on her back. The sounds and smells of the animated corpses below left her cringing, “There’s gotta be an emergency exit somewhere.” Layla slowly pushed herself up to a seated position, “And I’ll join you on that 0. This place fucking sucks.”
Nodding, Winston sighed. “Of course we can get going, I don’t think that I want to spend anymore time in here then I have to.” It was weird. Winston had seen a million and one movies where the protagonist climbs and clambers through a vent but actually doing it in real time was not what they had expected and by the time that Winston was out they were covered in sweat. There was an envelope waiting for them from Escape Doom as they pulled themselves out into the dirt outside the back of the Escape Doom building, it said something about congratulations on finishing your first escape room. Which did not make Winston feel better. “I need to shower and probably like drink a bottle of something that will make me forget this.” 
Layla followed Winston out and to the end of the air vent, where she also laid eyes on the envelope. Her reaction to the message? A strong eye roll. She had always wanted to try an escape room, but had never expected anything like this, “I would ask if I could join you, but I’m only 19, so…” She dusted herself off and looked back towards where they had just come. She could still hear groaning coming from the hollow vent, “Hey, uh, you don’t think they’ll get out do you?” Her concern from the community was great, considering they had just escaped death themselves. But her fears were calmed when she heard the groaning fade out and eventually disappear completely. She wasn’t sure how it had been done, but the living dead were gone. Looking to Winston, she sighed with relief, “They’re gone.” Moving forward, she looked towards her friend, “Next time, maybe we should just go see a movie.”

mafia!verse: hunting season [1]
“Fabricci! You’re late for dinner! You should phone ahead. Your wife and I had a lovely dinner together, but the entire time we were missing you.”
Dick doesn’t even blink when the lights flick on and the man in the doorway freezes. Dick’s eyes travel over Fabricci’s body. A little rumpled. Rosy complexion — drunk, possibly. Dick can’t smell the booze from here, but he’s sure he can figure it out without having to do a sniff test.
Fabricci is one of the stubborn hanger-ons that thinks with enough gumption, enough muscle, and enough brass he can upset Gotham’s status quo. He’s one of those who thinks that it’s time for a change and that change should be his family’s name on the billboards and in the news as Gotham’s — well. Family. Gotham only has one family and it will only ever be Wayne. That’s how Gotham started and that’s how Gotham is going to end.
If it wouldn’t get Dick teased he would have made a comment about the attitude of new money when he was discussing this with Jason and Damian.
The man turns to, no doubt yell at the poor woman huddled against the wall and ready to flinch. She’s holding the man’s coat up like a shield. But Dick stands, drawing attention back to himself.
“Oh, don’t get mad at her. She was kind enough to let me in to wait for you. And goodness how we’ve been waiting!” Dick smiles. It’s not the gentlest of smiles in his arsenal. But it’s definitely not the meanest. The woman averts her eyes anyway.
It can be hard to look into the sun, regardless of how gentle it seems.
“What did you do to her?” Fabricci demands.
“Nothing.” B’s instructions aside, Dick isn’t the kind of person who would resort to threats or violence first anyway.
There are people who get by with acts of dominance enacted by fists and fury. And that can be well and good for them, but Dick isn’t that type of person and he never will be. He’s never led with a fist. Dick’s prelude is his smile and if that doesn’t get him where he needs to be that’s when the fists can fly but there aren’t many places a smile won’t get him.
“Why are you here? You aren’t welcome in my home. You want to talk? You set up business like anybody else.”
Dick barely refrains from saying, but I’m not anybody else.
Instead Dick says, “And why aren’t I welcome in your home? You come into mine so casually.”
Dick gets a certain kind of thrill in watching the blood drain from the other man’s face. In the background the man’s wife retreats out of view. Dick would be worried if he didn’t already know who’s side she’s on. Good on her for knowing not to mess with the Wayne name. Shame that Fabricci isn’t the type of man who listens to his spouse. Dick has a feeling that if he did they might not even be living in Gotham. A man like this could probably do well elsewhere.
Dick would bet a good amount of money on Fabricci’s wife being a Gothamite. At least one person in this house respects the Wayne name and influence. All Dick had to do was knock and she’d opened the door and opened her mouth with everything she knew. Like she’d been waiting for him to show up. She almost looked relieved to have told him everything. It’s not often that Dick feels close to god, but as he sat across from her at the dining table, listening to her divulging every single detail she could remember, he almost felt like a priest hearing a confession.
“I can’t promise that you’ll be spared,” Dick had told her. She’d closed her eyes like she knew. “But I will do my best. I’ll remember what you’ve done for my family today. It takes great courage and great strength to go through what you have. And it takes a great deal of character to know when to cop up to when something’s wrong. I can promise you, after tonight, your husband’s part in this will be over.”
“Over?” She’d repeated.
Dick did not elaborate. She didn’t really need him to anyway.
“Bludhaven is mine,” Dick says plainly. “And I could have sworn that everyone knew that. But you came in with your guns and your drugs and your money, and I can’t help but wonder if perhaps it was a mistake on your part. Some sort of simple oversight. Maybe you didn’t realize that your little grab for power had spilled over the borders. If that’s the case I thought why not talk this out, all quiet, away from everyone else. You know. In case it was a mistake.”
Ah, the men of bravado and pride. They are so easy to bait. Dick feels a small curl of satisfaction as Fabricci tilts his chin up in defiance.
“And if it wasn’t, Grayson?”
“Then we have a problem, you and I, and it’s a problem we’re going to settle tonight. One way, or another.”
“Yeah? And how are you going to do that?” Unusual confidence for someone in his position. Dick doesn’t know if that’s real or fake. Or maybe there’s something else worth poking at here.
“I had thought we could talk it out over dinner. Peace isn’t made on an empty stomach, but you never showed up. Your poor wife didn’t seem to know where you were either. Or when you’d be back. Long day at work, Fabricci? What sort of trouble were you trying to cause today?”
Fabricci glares at him, face red and blotchy with fury rather than whatever was causing it earlier.
The smile never slips from his face. The harsh and angry one-sided silence is broken by the ring of a phone.
“One moment,” Dick pulls his phone out of his pocket, not looking at the screen as he answers. “What’s up, little D?”
“Are you still at Fabricci’s?” Damian sounds slightly out of breath, wound up tight like a trap ready to spring, and heated past a point of safe handling.
Dick’s smile, for the first time tonight, wavers.
“Yes. He and I are having a nice little chat. Why? Is there something you’d like me to ask him? Should I put you on speaker?”
“There was a shoot out,” Damian replies. “Near the theater house.”
Tim’s house.
Dick’s grip tightens on the phone, and his smile slides away from morning star to something brighter. Something meaner. Something infinitely vast, infinitely furious, and immeasurably lethal.
The thing about stars is that they are not immortal. The thing about stars is that with something that large, something that indescribably and incomprehensibly present, there is no way for that kind of death to go quietly.
When a star dies the rest of time and history feels it.
When Dick Grayson stops smiling the world takes notice. And it runs to hide and pray to saints who’ve barred the gates and martyrs who’ve turned their faces away.
“Thompson has him stable last I was informed but he’s still in surgery,” Damian says. “Cain and Todd are already on their way.”
“And where are you?”
“I was with him.” Damian pauses, but only for a moment. His voice gets soft. If someone was a fool they would say it goes frail. Childlike, almost. If someone had more brain cells than the fool who called it frail, they would call it warm. And if someone had more brain cells than either of those two dunces they would say Damian’s voice was fond. “Drake covered for me.”
Dick breathes in, a star getting ready, “Well what would you expect, D? That’s what family does. B say anything?”
“Father is not the most particularly verbose under stress.”
“Right. But?”
Dick pulls the phone away from his ear and switches it to speaker, thumbing the volume up to max so Fabricci can hear.
“If there is one thing Father cannot tolerate even more than guns,” Damian says after three heartbeats worth of blood and breath, “It’s injury to his people. All restrictions are, for now, off. To use Todd’s phrasing, it’s hunting season.”
Dick’s smile holds shadows that the stygian catacombs of Hell would turn away from.
“I’ll be there.” Dick hangs up, stowing his phone back into his pocket. “Is that why you were late for dinner, Fabricci? You know. You could have just said you had a prior appointment with my little brothers. You see, if there’s any exception to any rule it’s family.” Dick rolls his shoulders, fingers curling. “That’s the one thing you should never fuck around with. Especially in Gotham.”

“I’m telling you, this is where he’s been this whole time.” Adrien looked back at Max and Markov and sent them a shrug. Alya just rolled her eyes as she peered around the corner. She relaxed and waved her hand, “Come on, coast clear.”
Max quietly followed his two friends and asked, “Alya, where exactly are we going?”
“Alya thinks Bruce Wayne is Batman and is trying to figure out why he was gone for such a long time.” Adrien looked back, a rare serious expression on his face, “I don’t think she’s wrong either. Something’s up with them.”
Markov flew up to Adrien and examined him, “Aren’t you friends? According to my data over the last 12 days, you all seemed close.”
Adrien smiled, “Oh, they’re the best. Dick, Jason, and Tim are awesome to hang out with and Damian is treating Marinette really well!”
Max blinked, surprised, “Are they together?”
“If they aren’t by the end of this trip, I’m going to have Ladybug lock them up together like she did with me and Nino.” Alya sent back a coy smirk before peering around the next corner and pointing, “That room should be the one.”
“And how do we know Bruce isn’t in there right now?”
Alya held up her phone, “I got Nino sending me updates while he hangs with the bros.”
Adrien grinned, “Hanging with ‘the bros’? Alya, we’re finally rubbing off on you.”
Alya blinked a few times before glaring at the model. Max and Markov just laughed quietly as they made their way to the door. Alya jiggled it a few times, “Locked.”
“Now what, oh great detective?”
“May I?” Alya motioned for Markov to proceed with whatever plan he has cooked up in his digital brain and Max was just surprised to see his little friend take the lead. Markov brought out something similar to a Swiss Army knife, different tools all on display as he analyzed the lock. He put all but two tools away and began working on the lock. Alya looked back at Max and smiled, “So he can pick locks now?”
Max shrugged, “He likes learning new things. Comes in handy when I forget my house keys.” Adrien chuckled and shook his head as he watched the little robot work. Suddenly there was a click and the door cracked open. Markov pulled back and looked pleased with himself.
Adrien held out a fist, “Nice job!” The little robot was happy to bump fists as the four walked inside the room. Alya closed the door behind them and turned on the light. “Oh, this isn’t suspicious.” Adrien looked around the room and noted a few things, there were some office chairs and a large circular table. All pretty standard until you took into account the large supercomputer taking up the farthest wall away from the door.
Max immediately ran over to the computer and whistled, “This is incredible. How do you even get this on a boat?”
“More importantly, why does he need this on a boat?” Alya took a few pictures before pressing the space key. The monitor lit up and everyone stared at the line requiring a password. Alya scowled, “Markov, Max, you think you could help?”
Max and Markov looked at each other before Markov plugged himself into the computer and Max pulled up a chair. “Give us a few minutes.” Alya smiled and gave them both a quick hug and pecks on the cheek and display monitor, surprising the two for a second before they returned to work.
“You guys are the best.”
“Hey, Alya?” Alya turned back to Adrien who held up a stuffed folder from a nearby drawer. Alya walked over and Adrien opened the file. The two looked through the photos of Paris’s resident heroes as well as very detailed reports of different Akuma attacks.
“Hey, that’s Rena Rouge. Carapace and Queen Bee too.” Adrien set the file on the table and Alya began looking through the photos. “Queen Bee and-“ her breath hitched and Adrien peered over her shoulder to look at the photo. He was shocked to see the photo of the core five fighting against Hawkmoth on the Eifel Tower.
“This is from Heroes Day.”
“Look there.” Alya point behind Hawkmoth, “Isn’t that the first Amok?”
“Yeah, it is.” Adrien looked through the reports and found details such as first sightings, hair color, eye color, appeared race and ethnicity, appeared age range, and much more. He found details on their powers and fighting styles. On almost all of them, he found the same line of text. “Appears to be a novice in both fighting styles and control of power. May be children.” 
Adrien looked over his and Ladybug’s reports, “Two most seasoned out of the heroes. Always active. Patrol frequently. Appear to be close, but no romantic relationship noted besides light banter from Cat Noir. Most likely in early adolescence when beginning hero work. Do not appear to know each other’s identities.” He bit his lip at the different photos of him and his teammates.
Alya furrowed her eyebrows, “How did they get these? Some of these aren’t even on the Ladyblog.” Adrien licked his lips and ran his fingers through his hair. The two felt their anxiety spike the more information they uncovered in the documents. “Who are they?”
Adrien turned his attention to some pictures of Pegasus, Viperion, and King Monkey along with a few other rare heroes. “These are heroes Ladybug rarely uses. I mean, they have to be if you don’t recognize them.” Alya took some photos of the files on her phone and Adrien felt his heart racing, “How did-“
“We’re in.” The two quickly turned to Max and Markov and watched the monitor blew up in different windows, all displaying different videos and reports. “What is all of this?”
Adrien gathered all the files together and held them under his arm as he walked over to the computer. He looked at all the windows before pointing at one of them, “Expand that one.” Max clicked on the window and it showed the image of a hallway, “Press play.”
They were shocked to watch footage of the raid, men storming the halls and causing mayhem. Alya paused it and minimized the window before clicking on a different one. She pressed the play button and watched as Damian and Marinette narrowly escaped some of the raiders passing through a hallway. Adrien gulped audibly, not realizing how close of a call it was for his two friends. Alya minimized the window and clicked on one more window. She found herself looking at her own blog.
Adrien shook his head and licked his lips, “Alya-“
“This is it.” Alya let out a nervous laugh, “This is it. This is the evidence I’ve been looking for.”
Markov shook his head, “We’ll need something more substantial than this if you are going to accuse a man of being a famous vigilante.”
Adrien grabbed the mouse, “What’s this one?” He expanded the window and they all found themselves looking at an image of the raiders in cells. He hesitantly pushed play and they watched as the raiders disappeared in a black and purple haze, leaving behind two boys. One was injured in his leg and police suddenly stormed the cell.
“Adrien, that’s-”
“What’s going on here?” The four all turned to the doorway and found a very stern looking Bruce standing in the doorway, arms crossed. While he didn’t yell, nor did he make a move towards them, the four flinched.
Alya looked at her phone, realizing it was on ‘Do Not Disturb’ and completely missing all of Nino’s messages. She gulped and stepped up first, “Why didn’t you tell us the raiders were Akumas?”
Bruce blinked and uncrossed his arms, “What?”
“The raiders.” Alya turned back to the computer to rewind the video and played back the moment they disappeared. She paused it when the black and purple haze covered the screen and then brought back up her Ladyblog. She pulled up a video of a former Akuma and forwarded the video to the part where Ladybug captured the Akuma. The monster was covered in a purple and black haze before being turned back to normal. She pulled up the two videos side by side and pressed play on both windows. The room fell silent as they realized the haze was the exact same in both videos. Bruce walked up to the monitor and replayed both clips a few times as if to make sure what he was seeing was real.
Bruce turned to the kids, “One, you are all in big trouble. You are not allowed in this area and you clearly broke in as this door is always locked.” The kids all looked at each other nervously before turning their attention back to Bruce. He sighed, “Two, you are all going to help me in my investigation.”
The group blinked before Adrien shook his head, “What?”
“I thought this was a computer glitch, but clearly this is out of my depth of knowledge. I don’t know much about what’s going on in Paris, but you three clearly do.” He pointed at Alya, “Especially you.”
Alya gulped and nodded. She bit her lip before finally asking meekly, “So it’s true?” Bruce didn’t say anything, instead turning his attention back to the monitor. Alya smiled and laughed quietly, “Oh, Tim owes me so much.”
Bruce sighed, “Yes. Yes, he does.” He turned to the four and then locked his attention to Alya, “No one can know. I know you are a reporter and this is asking to go against everything you stand for, but no one can know.”
Alya held up her hands in surrender and shook her head, “No way. Gotham is crazy dangerous. This evidence is to prove to Tim and to myself that I am a good reporter and investigator. None of this information is leaving this ship.” She smiled and giggled, “Besides, when Marinette and Damian get married, I don’t want to have you glaring at me from across the room during the wedding.”
Bruce cracked a smile before he returned to a stoic expression, “That goes for you two boys as well.”
Adrien placed a hand on Max’s shoulder and gave it a small squeeze, “Bruce, we would never.” He sighed and his expression was grim, “Over the past few years, we’ve all accumulated secrets. One’s we’ll take to the grave.”
Bruce blinked, this boy has done nothing but smile and look at the bright side of things whenever they’ve interacted. To see him so serious and so tired made him feel an even greater sense of urgency to figure out what was going on in Paris. Bruce moved to log off of the computer before Alya grabbed his arm, “Wait!” She moved one of the windows up to the center of the screen and they realized it was a live feed of one of the security cameras. She narrowed her eyes, “Is that-”
Bruce watched in disbelief along with the other kids in the room as his youngest and the girl of honor walked together down the halls, unusually close and attention solely on each other. “You know when Dick told me they were close, I didn’t think they were that close.”
“They’re close, but something’s different.” She hesitated turning on the sound, but ultimately rose the volume.
“-e’s not picking up.” Marinette groaned, “I just want to get this over with.”
“Considering we can’t find my brothers either, they’re probably all hanging out together.” He rubbed his neck and flinched.
Marinette looked him over and frowned, “I’m sorry, we should’ve-”
“Don’t apologize.” Damian rolled his head and smiled at her, “It was nice.” She returned the smile and the two leaned into each other.
A quick kiss between the two and Alya screeched, “SHE DIDN’T TELL ME!”
All the males in the room flinched and Markov just flittered around happily, “How sweet!”
Bruce turned to Adrien who just shrugged and stepped slowly away from the panting reporter, “Alya, she just said she was looking for us. She’s probably looking for us to tell us.”
Alya snarled, “NO! We have a code! If she were to ever get a boyfriend she needs to text me ‘Code Pink’ and I was supposed to march over and interrogate the guy. That’s been our plan since she was still crushing on you!”
Max pointed at her phone, “Did you check your messages?”
“Of course I-” She stopped and then frantically looked through her phone. Sure enough, a message from Marinette reading ‘Code Pink. Please don’t freak out too bad!’ She took a deep breath and nodded, “Okay. Okay, I missed the message. I won’t kill them.” She turned to Bruce and wagged her finger in his face, “Me and you are discussing this later, Bats. Right now, I’ve got to have a few words with your son.” She ran out of the room and the remaining three uttered apologizes before chasing after her.
He paused before he felt his phone vibrate and he answered the call, “Yes.”
Dick chuckled, “Nino was following you because of Alya. Jason and Tim are distracting him with some rhythm games in the arcade now. What was Alya doing?”
Bruce sighed, “Tell Tim he owes her an apology and some praise.”
Dick went silent for a few moments before scoffing, “You’re kidding.”
“I wish. First Tim figures me out and now a bunch of French teenagers? This is getting ridiculous.”
“Not your fault she’s just as stubborn as Tim.” Dick sighed, “So what now?”
“Right now, you’ll want to go look for Damian. He was last seen on the floor above you roaming through the halls.”
Dick sounded confused, “Why?”
“Alya may kill him.”
“Do I want to know why?”
“Let’s just say we saw something very interesting on the camera feed.” Dick didn’t respond and Bruce rolled his eyes, “Trust me, you’ll want to see this.”
Dick groaned and nodded, “Okay. Okay. Sure. We’ll talk later.” Dick turned back to his brothers and Nino playing a few games. He walked over and motioned for them to come follow him, “Come on, we got to go save Damian.”
Tim’s eyebrows furrowed, “What? Why?”
“Apparently Alya’s going to kill him.”
Nino blinked and pulled away from the game, “Why?”
“Don’t know, but Bruce said we wouldn’t want to miss this.” Jason shrugged and the three followed Dick as he led them upstairs. As they walked through the halls they could hear Alya yelling.
Nino made a face before running in front of the group, following her voice until he found Adrien and Max standing in between Alya, Damian, and Marinette. Nino could tell she wasn’t really angry, but she was feeling something intense. “Alya?”
Alya turned to the four and then made a grand gesture to Damian and Marinette, “Can you believe these two? Unbelievable! You are so lucky Chloe wasn’t with me otherwise we’d kick your-”
“As much as I love seeing Damian being yelled at, what is going on?” Jason’s voice cut through the commotion and the two teens in question flinched. The three brothers were slightly unnerved, Damian rarely flinched. Marinette poked her head out from behind Damian and waved nervously, “Marinette?”
“Um, well-” She looked to Damian for help and then suddenly pushed him forward, “You tell them. They’re your brothers.”
Damian glared at her before turning to his brothers and rubbing the back of his neck. “It would seem that our relationship has evolved.” His cheeks seemed to get the slightest hint of pink and Tim was the first to break the silence.
“No way, you actually did it? You actually got yourself a girlfriend?” The three brothers looked at each other before grinning and lunging at their brother.
Jason got Damian in a headlock and started messing with his hair, “We’re so proud of you! Seriously, who knew you had a heart!”
Damian growled and pulled out the headlock only to be jumped by Dick, “You’re growing up! You finally found love!”
Before Damian could say anything back Tim grabbed his shoulders and looked him dead in the eyes, “You are Damian, right? Not some weird clone Talia made?”
“IF YOU DON’T LET GO I WILL KILL ALL OF YOU!” Damian thrashed around in their grips and got nowhere as they continued to tease him until Dick felt a tap on his shoulder.
Dick turned to a very concerned looking Marinette, “I would prefer he’s in one piece, please.”
She lit up bright red when Dick picked her up with almost no effort, “You’re magic you know that!”
She sent Damian a look of uncertainty and laughed nervously, “Um, I also met Kory. She’s really nice!” The three brothers froze and Damian took the chance to get out of their grips. He walked over and helped Marinette down from Dick’s hold and pulled her closer to him. She gulped, “Did I say something wrong?”
Tim narrowed his eyes at Damian, “Who else did she meet?”
“She met the team.”
“So-”
“She knows.”
Before either Jason or Tim could say anything Dick spoke up, “Apparently she’s not the only one who knows.” Dick motioned to Alya and she stood, hands on her hips, proud and smirking at Tim.
Tim’s eyes widened, “You’ve got to be kidding me.”
Nino looked between the groups and smiled at Alya, “Dude! You were right!”
Marinette and Damian snapped their heads to Alya, “Right about Bruce?”
Alya nodded and high fived Nino as he ran over, “Heck yeah!” She nudged Max and Adrien, “These two helped me.”
“Max?” Marinette looked apologetic, “Oh, Max I’m sorry you got roped into this.”
“Honestly, this is going to be the highlight of this whole vacation. I mean, I’m helping the great big bat with an Akuma investigation!”
Damian narrowed his eyes at the boy, “What investigation?”
Alya and Adrien looked between each other before Adrien stepped up, “Marinette, the raiders that night were Akumas. We saw the police footage, they disappear exactly the same way Akumas do after Ladybug releases the butterfly.” He could tell gears were beginning to turn in her head, “Marinette-”
Marinette shook her head, “No. No way.” She began pacing, “No, no, no, no.” Damian knew the reason why but everyone else seemed concerned for the girl. She suddenly turned to Tim, “Hey, did you send the list of all French passengers on the ship?”
Tim blinked and looked at his phone, “I thought Damian asked me for that.”
“We both did. Did you do it or not, Drake?” Damian walked over and looked Marinette in the eyes, a conversation passing between them as she bit her thumb’s nail. He sighed and turned back to his brothers, “Drake?”
“Sent.” A notification went off on both of their phones and they began walking off. “Hey-”
“Tell Father, we’re doing a bit of our own investigation. For now, the rest of you inform Chloe and start looking through all the files.”
Adrien ran up and grabbed Marinette arm, “Marinette, later we’ll have to talk.”
“Adrien-”
His voice got low and he whispered, “Princess, we have to talk.”
Marinette froze for a second before finally nodding, “I’ll text you later tonight.” She turned back to Damian and the two continued walking down the hallway, leaving behind a very concerned and confused friend group.
Damian looked over at Marinette’s stern expression and sighed, “This doesn’t prove anything.”
“Damian, you and I both know we were out in the water when that happened. There’s no way that’s a rouge Akuma. He’s on the ship.” Damian’s lips pressed into a hard line as Marinette walked to the nearest dining area. She sat herself down at the nearly empty bar and began looking through the files.
Damian sat next to her, looked around the room for anyone who could possibly be listening in, then looked through his phone. “That doesn’t mean he knows.”
“Why else would he-”
“A very rich man and his sons are on a ship worth hundreds of millions of dollars. An attack here could prove valuable to anyone with the right motive.”
“But he’s has never wanted money. He’s looking for me, he has to be!”
“Will you two quiet down?” The two turned their attention to the redhead at the bar sitting on the other end. The redhead looked up at the couple and glared, “Have you no mercy for those suffering hangovers?”
“It’s Thursday. Why the hell were you drinking so much on a Wednesday?”
She frowned and turned to the two, heavy Irish accent dripping with every word, “Because I’m pretty sure my boyfriend is cheating on me!” She let her head drop back down onto the bar’s counter as she groaned. Marinette and Damian looked at each other and, despite Damian shaking his head and aggressively mouthing the word ‘No’, Marinette walked over and rubbed the woman’s back.
“I’m sorry. That must hurt so much.”
The lady sniffed and turned her head to face Marinette. She paused before raising her head, “I know you.”
Marinette rolled her eyes, “I know. I’m the one that wrote the essay.”
“No, no. I know you.” The woman stared Marinette down as Marinette stepped back a few steps and Damian stood next to her. “I was the one who moved you into your room.”
Marinette blinked and tilted her head in confusion, “But I don’t remember your-”
“My accent? Yeah, the manager doesn’t like it. Told me to speak like a true American or I would be demoted.” She shook her head and scoffed, “Such an ass.”
Damian frowned, “Oh really, what manager is that?”
She snorted, “Manager of residential life. He looks over everything involving passengers who are staying on the boat for extended periods of time.” She shook her head, “He doesn’t even do his job either. I did most of the work for you and your class.”
Marinette frowned and gave her shoulder a small squeeze, “If it makes you feel better, I prefer this accent. Sounds real and it’s a lot more memorable.”
The woman smiled at Marinette and held out her hand, “Name’s Tess. From Limerick.”
Marinette shook her hand eagerly, “Marinette, from Paris.”
Damian sent a few texts and held out his hand, “Damian, Gotham.”
The lady shook it and laughed, “You know you look like Bruce’s runt.”
Damian glared at Tess and sternly said, “I’m not a runt.”
Tess waved her hand as she looked at the empty glass in her hand, “Yeah. Yeah. Do you know how to make drinks kid?” Marinette covered her mouth to keep from laughing while Damian begrudgingly took the glass and made his way behind the bar. Tess smiled, “Now that’s a good man!” She turned to Marinette wiggled her eyebrows, “Lucky lass, aren’t you?”
Marinette blushed and nodded, “I guess I am.” The two laughed and Damian set down the new drink in front of Tess.
Tess held up the glass and glared, “This is water.”
“I’m fifteen, lady. What did you expect?” He smirked, “Besides you need to sober up.”
Tess glared at the boy before reluctantly sipping her water, “Smart kid.” She turned back to Marinette, “So what were you two talking about? You got a stalker or something?”
Marinette sighed, “In a way.”
Tess held a look of pity, “Oh sweetheart, I’m sorry.” She turned to Damian and waved her hand, “And what the hell are you still doing here? Shouldn’t you be fighting for her honor or something?”
Damian rolled his eyes, “We don’t even know if he’s on the boat.”
“He has to be!” Marinette stared at her lap as she played with the hem of her shirt, “I mean-”
Tess held her shoulders and turned Marinette to look her in the eye, “Women have great intuition when it comes to these things. If you feel unsafe, you probably are.” Tess smiled sadly at the girl in front of her and gave her cheek a few pats, “Oh you’re so pretty. That must be hard.”
Marinette smiled, “Not really! I mean, I’ve only ever been attacked a few times-”
Both Tess and Damian snapped their heads to look at her and asked, “Wait, what? By who?”
Marinette pursed her lips together in a line, “A few people. All because of-“ She gulped as she worded her next line carefully, “- all because of the guy. He wants something from me, but I won’t give it to him. I never will.”
Tess bit her lip and looked at her glass, “I’m sorry you’re going through this.” She stared at her glass for a moment before chugging it down and slamming the glass onto the counter, catching the attention of everyone in the room when it shattered. She just blinked a few times and then looked at her bleeding hand, “Aw, crap.”
Marinette jumped off her chair, her words coming out incoherent and panicked, and left to grab a cloth napkin while Damian took her hand. He looked for any large shards that may be making the bleeding worse. He cursed under his breath and scolded her, “What were thinking? I know you’re hungover, but are you really that far gone that you forgot glass breaks?” He shook his head, “There aren’t any big pieces or anything, but you cut yourself bad. Go to the nurse or something.” Marinette came running back with a clean cloth and started carefully wrapping Tess’s hand.
Marinette shook her head, “What on earth was going through your head? This is glass! You could’ve seriously hurt yourself!”
Tess looked between the two before beginning to laugh. Marinette finished wrapping her hand and looked over to Damian for answers. He shrugged and they waited for her to calm down. She waved her hand between the two of them, “You two!” She wiped a tear from her eyes, “Did you guys rehearse that?” She sniffed and sighed, “Oh, Lord, I haven’t laughed like that for weeks.”
The two teens frowned at that statement and Marinette placed a hand on Tess’s shoulder, “Anything we can do?”
“Hey, don’t worry about me. I’m worried about you.” She smiled, “If he’s on this ship, I’ll know. I’ve taken care of all the European passengers on this ship. If you have anyone you want to look into, call me.”
Damian looked surprised before leaning over the counter, careful to avoid the shattered glass, “Do you know if any older male passengers boarded the ship when Marinette and her class did?”
Tess thought for a second and snapped her fingers, “Yes, but he’s American. He was on a business trip.” Damian frowned and started to clean off the counter before Tess hummed, “Does it have to be right when you boarded?”
Marinette shook her head, “No, I guess not.”
���There was a couple who got onto the ship a few days before you did when we were at a different port.” She paused for a moment to think, “He looked very professional and I couldn’t tell if the woman was his lover or his secretary. Probably both.” She looked at Marinette concerned, “Wait, your stalker is an older fella? What kind of pedophile-“
“Marinette?” Damian watched as she pondered over the new information and her eyes darted around along with the thoughts in her head.
Marinette’s eyes widened and she mumbled, “Mayura.”
“Hm?”
Marinette shook her head, “Nothing. Where are they now?”
Tess thought before groaning, “I need my clipboard to tell you that.”
Damian looked at Tess, “You know you could get into serious trouble for this. This is a breach of privacy.”
Tess glared at Damian, “Are you really going to tell me you’re going to tell my manager for helping your girlfriend?”
Damian smirked, “No. I just wanted to make sure you knew what you were doing.” Damian looked at his phone and looked back up at Tess, “As far as I’m concerned you are in need of a promotion and a raise for helping us out.”
Tess rolled her eyes, “Oh yeah, like that’s going to happen.” She looked at her wrapped hand and frowned, “I need to go to the nurse first.”
Marinette smiled, “You want us to come along?”
“No, Marinette, you stay with your man. I’ll come find you later tonight. You’ll be in your room around 6, right?”
“We can be.”
“I’ll see you then.”
Damian spoke up, “Can you tell us the names of the couple?”
Tess turned back to the boy and hummed, “I think the last name started with an A. I’ll have to check.”
Damian shook his head, “No need. We’ll see you tonight.” Tess nodded and headed out of the room, leaving the two teens at the bar. Damian scrolled through the list Tim sent him, “The only A names are Aaron, Azreth, and Agreste. Unless Adrien is Hawkmoth, I say we check out the other two.”
Marinette shook her head, “No, I know for a fact he isn’t.” She sat back down and let her head fall onto the counter, a small smack could be her from where her head made contact. Damian poked her and she turned her head, “What?”
“You okay there?”
“No.”
“At least you’re honest.” Damian handed Marinette a glass of water and she smiled. He leaned against the counter and scowled, “When you talked about Hawkmoth with Tess just now, the way you worded your situation-“
“What about it? I couldn’t exactly tell her I’m being chased by a supervillain.”
Damian shook his head, “No, it just didn’t sit well with me. Even worse than the actual situation sits with me. You make it sound like a creepy old man is trying to force you to sleep with him.”
She shuttered, “Oh god, no. If that ever happens, my mom would murder the man.”
“I’ll help her. I’m trained to do so anyway.” She glared at Damian, but he kept a serious expression. “I’m serious. He’s forcing people to do things they don’t want to do. They don’t remember any of what happened. And all of it is because he’s trying to take care of his own needs.”
Marinette scrunched up her nose and scowled, “When you put it that way, yes he sounds like a monster.”
“He is a monster.”
“But even worse.” She sighed and looked around the room, “You know when I got on this boat I took comfort in the fact that Hawkmoth’s Akumas wouldn’t get to me. Now I don’t even have that anymore.”
Damian grabbed Marinette’s hand and rubbed the top of her hand with his thumb. He leaned in close and whispered, “We’ll figure this out. You got Robin on your side, which means Batman and the rest are soon to follow.”
She smiled and poked him, “Ah yes, the son of the dark knight. How could I forget?” She giggled, “So I’m assuming your brothers are also-“
“Yes.”
“Of course.” She shook her head and giggled, “That makes total sense.”
“What about your friends? Are any of them miraculous holders? I know Chloe’s Queen Bee but-“
“I actually can’t answer that. At least not right now. Me telling you about Ladybug is one thing, but if anyone else on this boat is a miraculous holder I can’t say.”
“You know about my family.”
“Yeah, but I doubt you would’ve told me. Alya found you guys out.” Damian didn’t say anything to argue with the statement, only proving Marinette’s point. Marinette took a few sips of her water, “We should investigate tonight.”
“Okay. Tess at 6, leave by 6:30. We’ll have to research their routines first though to see if they leave their rooms at all. We can use the main computer downstairs to look at the security footage.”
“We should split up. It’s easier to sneak around on your own than it is with two people.”
Damian shook his head, “No way. I’m going with you.”
“No, we need to figure this out as soon as possible. It’d be easier to just look through both rooms tonight separately than searching through the rooms together over the course of two days.” Damian still looked hesitant and she smiled at him, “I’ll be-“
“DUPAIN-CHENG!” The two turned to see Chloe fuming at the entranceway and the couple tensed. She stomped over and wagged her finger in Marinette’s face, “How many times do I have to tell you, YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO TELL ME IN PERSON IF ANYTHING BIG HAPPENS!” She pointed at Damian behind the bar, “So why on earth do I have to hear from Alya that you started DATING DAMIAN WAYNE?” Marinette seemed to shrink the louder Chloe got and she smiled shamefully. Chloe looked between the two and groaned, fixing her ponytail and taking a few breaths. “I’m very happy for you, but I feel left out.”
Marinette sighed and hugged Chloe, “Sorry, we just had something urgent to take care of.”
Chloe lowered her voice and pointed at Damian, “You mean regarding the fact that your boyfriend’s dad dresses like nocturnal furry?”
Damian choked and glared at the blonde, “One, will you keep it down? I know there are only like four people in here but you catch people’s attention. Two, he does not!” Marinette giggled, earning a glare before he turned back to Chloe. “Alya told us the raid was caused by an Akuma.”
Chloe paused for a moment before biting her lip, “Well, that’s not good.” She thought for a moment and looked between the two, “So he may be on the ship?”
“It’s a theory.”
“If you need me for anything, I’ll do what I can. I’ll keep track of the gossip on the ship and see if any stories seem suspicious. I’ve gotten close with a few of the crew members since we got on the ship.”
Damian blinked, “You and the servants? Who knew?”
Chloe glared, “Just because you’re a Wayne doesn’t make you untouchable, Damian.” Damian rolled his eyes at the hollow threat and she turned back to Marinette, “Stay away from Lila.”
“Lila?”
“She gets under your skin. I don’t want to have to face you as an Akuma.” Marinette nodded and Chloe pulled away from the two, “I’ll let you know if I hear anything.” She waved and left the room, leaving the couple in silence as they imagined how bad an akumatized Marinette could be.
Damian shuttered, “You’d kick ass as an Akuma, but I’d rather not fight you.”
Marinette smiled and shook her head, “I almost was akumatized a few times. The closest call I had was when I was about to take off my earrings. I snapped out of it right before that happened. After that, I started to just push down everything. If what I felt could lead to loosing Ladybug, then I’d rather not feel at all.”
Damian left the bar and walked over to Marinette’s side, “You know that isn’t healthy.”
“Doesn’t matter, I can’t afford to lose.” He grabbed her hand and she looked up at him with a soft smile on her face, “We should go and look over the security footage. We need to prepare for tonight.” He nodded and started leading her through the hallways and stairwells to a room where Bruce stood over a large computer. Marinette knocked on the doorframe and Bruce turned to look at the couple. He smiled at the two and straightened himself out.
“Well, well, look at the two love-”
“Don’t.” Damian walked over to the computer, pushing past Bruce and clicking on various windows on the monitor.
Marinette shook her head and walked over to Bruce, “How are you? We haven’t seen you in a while.”
Bruce smiled, “I’m fine. Tired. I’ve been looking over the footage for over a week and Alya figured it out after watching it once.” He rubbed his eyes, “I’m losing my touch.”
“It would seem so, Father. Time to retire?” Bruce glared at Damian, who just smirked to himself as he pulled up a few pieces of footage and the Ladyblog. Marinette hit his shoulder lightly, trying not to laugh for Bruce’s sake, and turned her attention to the screen. “This seems to be the right video.”
He expanded the window and played back the footage of the raiders disappeared and Marinette pointed at the screen. “Wait, rewind it a few seconds and pause.” Damian did as instructed and Marinette pointed at one of the boys. “That one. That’s the one Captain Staller shot, isn’t it?”
Damian nodded, “Looks like it. It’s even his left leg too.”
Marinette looked around the boys’ cell, “Where’s the akumatized object?”
“The what?”
“The akumatized object.” She grabbed the mouse away from Damian and pulled up the Ladyblog. She pulled up some videos of previous Akuma’s and forwarded the fight videos to when they would capture the Akumas. “See? All Akumas need a catalyst. They usually enter an object of interest on the person to possess the person. Ladybug and Cat Noir have to figure out what it is to release and capture the Akuma.” She pulled back up the previous window and played back the kids returning to normal, “Now look. There’s no akumatized object on either of them. Nothing broke.”
“Do the akumatized objects have to break for the Akuma to leave?”
“Not always, but we should’ve been able to see an Akuma flying away from the boys. They aren’t that fast.”
“Meaning the object wasn’t on the kids.” Damian hummed, “What were the police able to confiscate?”
Bruce looked through some of his files and pulled out a picture of a plastic bag. “They wouldn’t give me the evidence, but they allowed me to take a photo.”
Marinette looked at the photo and shuttered. She examined the photo of the odd gun and licked her lips, “I didn’t notice this before.”
“Didn’t notice what?”
She pointed at the gun’s barrel, “Look, there are three different types of ‘bullets’. Red, green, and white.” She thought for a moment and gulped, “We know green had the laughing gas.”
Bruce went to go grab some more photos from the raid and pulled out ones documenting the rooms where there were explosions. He pointed at one of the photos, “So this red residue must be from the red chamber.”
“Then what does white do?” Damian looked up at Bruce and asked, “Do we have any photos of the boys after they turned back?”
Bruce thought for a second before pulling out two photos. Marinette didn’t like the idea of two boys taking mug shots, especially when one was injured, but it was evidence. She looked at the one with the injured leg and studied him carefully until she found a picture of him from behind, “There. White residue.” She pointed at a small dot of white on the back of the boy’s shirt and hummed, “Okay, so let’s say white turns people into raiders. Where did the others come from then?”
Bruce frowned, “More importantly, where are they now? If the boys are back to normal, then shouldn’t there be more people in that cell?”
Damian looked over the footage and zoomed in on the floor surrounding the boys. The footage was grainy, but there were clearly things surrounding them once they transformed back. “What if it’s not just people? What if the white bullets just make henchmen in general?”
Bruce pulled out his phone and walked over to the other side of the room, “Excuse me, I need to make some calls.”
Marinette started to get frustrated and mumbled to herself, “Where are you now?”
“Where’s who now?” She looked up and found herself looking up at Adrien, Alya, and the others. “Figured something out?”
Damian scoffed, “Yes, we did. What took you guys so long?”
“Alya and Tim were arguing about what her prize would be.”
Tim growled, “I’m not giving her a prize because I still can prove Marinette is Ladybug!”
“Give it a rest already!” Alya walked over to Marinette’s side, “I love my girl here, but she’s not Ladybug. I would know.” Damian bit his lip to keep from laughing and turned away from the group. Marinette just rolled her eyes and hugged Alya. Alya happily accepted, “Not to say you wouldn’t make a good Ladybug, though. You would totally rock at superhero business.”
Adrien looked over to Nino and pouted, “Why can’t we be like that?”
Nino rolled his eyes and pulled Adrien into a hug, “You’re so needy.” The two boys snickered as they pulled away and joined the girls as they gathered around the table.
Dick turned to his brothers, “Now, why can’t we be-”
A collective “No” resonated in the room, making Dick grumble as they listened to Marinette’s explanation on how they think the gun works. Jason hummed, “Given the weird style of the thing I’d say the akumatized object was some kind of dart gun. Look, the chambers are stupid wide and there’s a pump when this is supposed to be a pistol.”
Bruce walked back over and nodded, “Jason’s right. After the boys turned back the gun in the bag turned out to be a toy.”
“And the stuff on the floor?”
“Action figures.”
Alya hummed, “So kind of like a mix between Befena and Puppeteer. Interesting.”
“How so?”
Alya motioned for Tim and the others to gather around the computer as she pulled up more footage, “If you look at previous Akumas, they’ve all had one kind of power set. At least most of them have. Befena is one of the few that could do two different things, turn people to coal or transform them into her army of angels. Puppeteer, on the other hand, had the ability to control any sort of toy, statue, etc. It’s interesting that this Akuma is a bit of a mix with more complex powers.”
Chloe crossed her arms, “Okay, but that doesn’t really give us much to work on. So what if this one had one extra power? The other ones have been normal. Probably just a fluke.”
“Or his powers are evolving.” The group turned to Adrien as he thought, “No seriously, he’s been at this for years. Who’s to say he’s not getting stronger?”
Nino shuttered and shook his head, “Don’t even say that, dude. I don’t want to put that out there.”
Damian turned to Adrien, “Besides, Chloe’s right the others have been relatively normal. I agree it could’ve been a fluke.”
“What if it isn’t, though?” Marinette eyes darted between everyone in the group, fearful and tense, “Guys, when this Akuma attacked we were out on open waters.”
“So?”
Tim’s eyes widened, “That’s why you asked for the list. You think he’s on the ship.”
Marinette’s expression only hardened and she gripped onto the chair in front of her. Adrien looked her over and reached out to put a hand on her shoulder, “Marinette-”
She stepped away and started pacing, “What if he is getting stronger? What if he’s the reason everyone on this ship is acting so weird?”
“What do you mean?”
Damian looked at the group and spoke as if this was common knowledge, “You guys haven’t noticed? Everyone’s on edge. Tim lashed out at us. People have been fighting with their good friends. Hell, even the captain says his depression’s getting worse.” He stared at the photo of Hawkmoth on top of the Eifel Tower and resisted the urge to crumple it up. “It would make sense he’s on this ship. Most of the cities we’ve gone to have been attacked, as well as the ship itself, while Paris has had a quiet streak.”
Jason shook his head, “Why the hell is he on the ship, though?” Adrien and Marinette locked eyes for a brief moment, panic passing between the two as they debated saying anything at all.
Adrien gulped, “Probably because-”
“It’s me.” Everyone turned to Marinette and she tensed up, clearly going off of impulse instead of logic. “It’s me, guys.” Damian narrowed his eyes at her as everyone waited with baited breath. She reached into her purse and made eye contact with Tikki. Tikki was about to fly out when she gently pushed her out of the way and pulled out a familiar red and black box. She opened it and a bright light flashed in the room before everyone came to notice a small horse-like creature flying around the room. “Kaalki-”
She floated around the room before landing on Damian’s head. Her British accent was present in every word, “Now these are holders I approve of. Clearly noble blood. Which one am I working with?”
Marinette shook her head and motioned for Kaalki to return to her. Kaalki rolled her eyes before floating back over to the girl and sitting on her shoulder. Marinette turned back to the group and figured she should’ve expected these reactions. Her friends were not necessarily impressed, rather they were simply taking in the appearance of the kwami. However, most of the Wayne family wore various expressions of shock on their faces. Damian didn’t outwardly react, but she could tell he still was intrigued by Kaalki’s appearance. “Ladybug gave me the horse miraculous because she knew our class has been an epicenter for Akumas since Hawkmoth first appeared. If she ever needed to come over for whatever reason, I was supposed to hide, transform, and make a portal for her and Cat Noir.”
“So every time you disappeared during an Akuma attack you-” Marinette nodded and Tim groaned, “Damn it!”
Alya ran over and bounced on the balls of her feet, “You’re a hero. You’re a hero! You’re a hero!” She squealed and spun Marinette around, nearly making her trip. “Yes! I knew it was only a matter of time!”
Marinette snorted as she rebalanced herself and Nino patted her back. Nino beamed, “Dude! You’ve been doing great!”
Chloe and Adrien shared a look before smiling softly at the girl. Adrien looked visibly relieved at her explanation and sent a thumbs up. However, the other men in the room looked disapprovingly at her. She pulled away from Alya and took back a serious demeanor. She coughed, “Um-”
“I mean I get it. Still, why the hell would she choose a kid?”
“I’m with Jason on this one. That’s not fair to put that on you while you’re on vacation. Precaution or not they should’ve given it to a teacher.” Dick’s expression was unusually grim, making Marinette shrink under his gaze.
Damian pushed forward and glared back at the oldest. It wasn’t unusual for Damian to challenge the others, but they were surprised that he wasn’t mad on Marinette’s behalf with them. Damian's voice was stern and unwavering, “Well, for whatever reason she has one of these things. If this Hawkmoth even had the slightest suspicion there was a miraculous on the boat, of course he would board.”
Bruce nodded, “That’s true. Your class winning the competition made headlines, so he would definitely know about you all being on the ship.”
“But does he know you have it specifically?” Jason stared between Kaalki and Marinette, “Does he know Marinette Dupain-Cheng has the horse miraculous?”
“I don’t know.”
Tim shook his head, “I doubt it. I mean, he may know it’s on the ship but I doubt he knows who has it. Otherwise he would’ve been targeting you from the beginning.”
Chloe waved her hand and scoffed, “You say that as if he’s going by his normal pattern. He hasn’t been talking to any of his Akumas lately. He’s clearly trying to smoke out Ladybug and Cat Noir.”
Bruce turned to the blonde and frowned, “Chloe has a point. He’s trying to make them run out of time outside of Paris. Get them away from their usual playing field, make them disoriented in a different country and use it against them.”
Chloe nodded and turned back to the computer screen. “So if that’s what he’s getting at, then he’s probably going to send out another Akuma tomorrow when we dock. It’s obvious what we should do.”
Nino raised an eyebrow, almost not believing he’s hearing this all from the mayor’s daughter, “And what do we do, Queenie?”
She turned to the Wayne family and pointed at them, “We send them out first. That’ll confuse the heck out of Hawkmoth. If we do what we did last time where some of us kept watch for possible akumatized objects while Alya films for Ladybug we won’t have to worry about them possibly running out of time. They can just swoop in and get the Akuma while they act as a distraction and buy time.”
“We can’t ask them to do that!” The room turned to Marinette and she shook her head, “You forget, they don’t have magic to keep them safe. You know how dangerous Akumas can be! They could get hurt!”
Dick’s face deadpanned and his voice was monotone, “You realize we’ve been at this since before you guys were born, right?”
Jason walked over to Marinette and wrapped an arm around her shoulders, “Yeah! You don’t have to worry about us, we’ve faced threats way worse than some of these guys!”
Marinette’s eyes widened and Tim was quick to reassure, “What he means is that we’re seasoned heroes. Yes, we’ve fought a lot of bad guys, but we’re still here! We know what we’re doing!”
“Unlike you.” The group turned to Bruce who still looked disgruntled, “It frustrates me that you were just given this responsibility. You’re a child.”
Dick rolled his eyes, “Look who’s calling the kettle black.”
The three boys snickered and Bruce glared, “I gave you all choices and trained you. I gave you this opportunity because it was the best path to take for all of you to grow and heal from your pasts.” He then pointed at the third Robin, “Except Tim, Tim found me and asked for this.” Tim nodded smugly and Bruce motioned to Marinette, “What does she gain from this? She doesn’t have training, she doesn’t have trauma to heal from, and she doesn’t need this.” He turned to the kids and sighed, “None of you do. This mess should’ve been taken care of by people who were qualified. Not a bunch of kids!”
Adrien stepped up and raised his voice, “With all due respect, for what they’ve been handed they’ve been doing the best they can. All of the heroes have been doing the best they can. Paris is still standing, the world hasn’t seen disaster from Hawkmoth’s influence, and we’re still here too!”
Alya nodded, “Adrien’s right. Ladybug and Cat Noir may not have Batman to handpick and train them, but they stepped up! They are doing what you did, without all the assets or support! They’re great heroes and I refuse to stand here and let you bash them like that!”
“Besides, Marinette is the best choice out of all of us to be handed that miraculous, anyway.” Chloe flipped back her ponytail and crossed her arms, “She’s the only one who hasn’t been akumatized. Plus, as much as I hate to admit it, she’s just as clever and resourceful as Ladybug. She made the right call!”
Marinette froze in the middle of a staredown between the Gotham heroes and the Paris ones. She backed away and looked between the two, feeling the tension rise, and she suddenly needed air. She felt someone grab her arm and pull her away towards the door. She looked up at Damian, wearing an unreadable expression on his face, and slammed the door behind him. As he turned a corner they bumped into someone and as soon as he recognized the person he scowled. “What do you want?”
Lila rubbed her nose, “Ow. If you must know, Ms. Bustier has been looking for Bruce to talk about the arrangements for tomorrow. Markov said I might find him down here, but I got lost in this maze of a floor!” She huffed and crossed her arms, “Seriously, not very hospitable.” She blinked, noticing the figure behind him, and leaned to the side to get a better look, “Marinette?”
Marinette tensed and started to walk past her, keeping her eyes trained on the ground in front of her. She didn’t look back when she heard Damian slap his hand around Lila’s wrist and warn her against following them. Marinette practically ran up the steps and ran to the middle of the main deck. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and mumbled to herself, “Four counts in, four counts hold, four counts out.”
She took a few more breaths before opening her eyes and taking in the scenery around them. She realized she was standing near the main lounging area and noticed a bunch of her other classmates playing around and swimming in the pool. Damian walked up next to her, but before he could say anything she thought out loud, “We’re never going to be like that are we?”
Damian looked around, “Like what?”
“Normal.” She grabbed his arm and leaned onto him, “They’re here just on normal vacation. Not sitting downstairs in a dark room arguing about heroes and villains and responsibilities.”
Damian shook his head, “No, we’re-”
“Heads up!” Suddenly they were wet. Soaking wet. The two turned around, startled and confused, only to be faced with Kim holding an empty bucket surrounded by Alix, Max, Markov, Ivan, and Mylène. Kim wore a smug look on his face while the others laughed.
It took a few moments before Marinette finally snapped, “Kim, what did you-”
“Max and Markov told us you guys finally decided to go out! We didn’t have any rice or anything so we improvised!”
Damian glared, “That’s for weddings, imbecile!”
Kim looked back and laughed, “You’re right, he does use big words.”
“I told you!” Alix stepped up, jumped, and wrapped her arms around the couple’s shoulders. “Seriously though, congratulations! We were wondering who our dear class president would finally end up with. We just didn’t think it’d be you!”
Mylène just rolled her eyes and patted Marinette’s shoulder, “We’re just excited for you.” Ivan nodded and then glared at Damian, “Oh, also we’re here to intimidate him. You know how these things go.”
Marinette stepped in between the group and Damian and spread out her arms, “No! No more interrogations! Alya practically yelled our ears off this morning!”
“Oh, that’s why she was yelling. We just thought she found out a new thing about Ladybug or something.” Alix snickered, “Good for her, but we’re not done yet.”
Marinette growled, “Nuh-uh. Nope. Not happening! I just got a boyfriend and I am NOT letting you all scare him off!”
Damian blinked, taken aback by her words, before smirking and putting a hand on her shoulder. “It’s fine. Not like any of them are intimidating to me.”
Alix glared, “You take that back, Wayne!”
“No, but this is seriously so rud-” The sudden stop made Damian turn to Marinette, only to find her staring at him like he grew two heads. He raised an eyebrow at her, confused, and tried to move away slowly. He thought it may have been something behind him, but her eyes followed him wherever he moved.
“Marinette?”
She blinked, snapping out of whatever trance she was in, and a wave of red washed over her face and neck. She growled and started pointing at him, “THAT’S WHAT YOUR HAIR LOOKS LIKE WITHOUT HAIR GEL?” She snarled, “OH COME ON!”
Damian frowned, incredibly confused, “What did I do?”
“You- YOU-“ She lunged at him, “YOU CAN’T KEEP GETTING BETTER LOOKING! THAT’S NOT FAIR!” Damian dodged out of the way and then grabbed her arms when she reached for his hair. She huffed and glared at him, “What else are you hiding? You have cute glasses too, huh? I need to be mentally prepared for these things!” She got more and more red, if possible, the longer she yelled, “If this keeps happening and you keep getting better looking, I’m going to be a mess! It’ll be a complete DISASTER!”
Damian finally took note of the hair falling around his face. He was told it look similar to Dick’s hair when he was younger in the way it framed his face. Definitely takes away the professional appearance Damian was keen on keeping, but if he could get her this flustered by letting it be every once in a while might not be a bad thing. He turned back to the girl, “Marine-”
Marinette twisted her herself out of his grip and jumped on his back, “Let me mess with your hair!”
Damian stumbled around, “Marinette, get off!”
She ran her fingers through his hair in an attempt to turn it back to what she was familiar with. “Not until you get back to a tolerable level of attractiveness!”
He struggled to keep balance and looked over at her friend group, who were practically crying in laughter at the whole thing. Her movements made him take one step too many to the right and the two lost complete balance and found themselves falling into the pool. Damian came up first, soon followed by Marinette who swam immediately to the edge and jumped out. He watched her, afraid she was going to try something else, but noticed that she was hugging herself and was shaking. He got out, grabbed a towel from the nearest towel rack, and wrapped it around her. “Marinette, you okay?”
She turned to him, fear clear in her eyes, and she flinched away from his touch before recognizing him. She gulped and shook her head, “I’m fine. Just,” She paused and took a shaky breath, “Brought up bad memories.” Suddenly taking an unexpected dive into the water brought her back to the night of the raid. The spot on her cheek that the raider kissed felt on fire and her heart raced as the next moments flashed before her eyes.
Damian sighed and moved hair away from her face, “Let’s get changed, otherwise we’re going to get sick.”
Mylène and Alix walked up, the group long since stopped laughing when they saw Marinette scramble to get out of the water, and looked over the girl. Mylène smiled at Damian, “We’ll take her back to her room and get her cleaned up. We’ll see you at dinner.”
Damian nodded and placed a small kiss on the top of her head, “Okay. See you around 4?”
She blinked, pink coming back to her cheeks, and nodded as she was led away by two of her friends. Damian watched as they walked past Lila, finally coming back after finding the others and talking to his father, and she smirked as soon as she knew they couldn’t see her. When she turned back, the two locked eyes and Damian felt his anger rising just looking at the girl. He was about to step towards her before Ivan put a hand on his arm. Kim grinned, “Woah! We still gotta talk!”
Damian sighed, “About?”
Ivan smiled, “Sorry about the mean look. The girls are adamant about us talking to you and playing bad cops.”
Max adjusted his glasses, “Which is odd because they’d more likely be bad cops in this situation.”
Damian pinched the bridge of his nose and suddenly felt exhausted. “Who else do I have to worry about? So far, Alya, Chloe, Alix, and Mylène have all yelled at me. Who else?”
Max shrugged, “I mean I doubt Rose or Juleka would yell at you, they’ll be super happy for you guys. Kagami though is a different story.”
“The fencer?”
“Oh yeah, but you don’t have to worry about her until you arrive in Paris.” Kim snickered, “Oh man and that’s not even counting her family! Her grandmother is great, but I’d hate to see her mad.”
Ivan nodded, “That’s not even counting Jagged Stone, Fang, or Penny.”
Damian groaned, “At least her parents like me.”
“WOAH!” Kim grabbed Damian’s shoulders, “You met the parents? Dude!”
Damian shrugged his hands off and stepped back, “I met them back when we first explored Spain and we’ve only talked a few times since.”
“So what’d they do when you told them you guys were dating? You know they’ve been just as eager to see her date someone as her friends, right?” Max watched as Damian paled slightly, “You haven’t told them yet.”
Damian glared and got defensive, “This happened last night, we haven’t exactly had the time!”
Ivan laughed and patted Damian’s back with more force than he was expecting. He made Damian lurch forward with every pat, “Don’t worry. They’re really nice.”
Markov fluttered around the boy, “You know Damian, you’ve become much more sociable since this trip started. When we first met you, you didn’t really talk to anyone outside of Marinette and her close friends.”
“Yeah, and you kept calling us by our last names for some reason.” Kim wore a stern demeanor and pointed at Damian, “Wayne.” He immediately broke character and laughed. “Seriously though, you’re like one of us now!”
Damian blinked at the statement, “What?”
“Yeah, Damian. We need to hang out more before the trip is over.” Ivan chuckled, “If you can get away from Marinette.”
Damian gulped, not really knowing how to feel about all of this. A part of him, deep down, was actually happy. This class just welcomed him and he felt a normalcy he couldn’t even get from Jon when they were in school together. Jon knew he was a hero and went with him to go crime-fighting. While Jon gave him a friend for life, it wasn’t a normal relationship due to their abilities and duties. These kids only knew him as Damian and couldn’t care less about who his family was. The name Wayne meant nothing to them, they just cared about Damian and it was both refreshing and thought-provoking for him. He spent his whole life looking down on these types of people. Those who didn’t have to worry like he did, fight like he did, or survive like he did. They just lived and he finally got a taste of what it meant to simply be 15 with other kids his age.
However, he felt like an imposter. There was a reason he didn’t get close to normal people, he wasn’t one of them. He could never be one of them. His breeding, his training, his past, his future, all of it ruled against anything normal. He couldn’t have this, but admitting that meant he couldn’t have Marinette either. Despite being Ladybug, this was her world. One she grew up in, one she helped shape and improve, and one he couldn’t ever corrupt.
Damian forced himself to give the boys a polite smile, “We’ll see. But for now, I have to go change. See you later.” They waved their goodbyes and went back to having their fun as Damian’s mind raced. While she walked the line between hero life and normal life, she would forever be tethered by that promise of things going back to the way they were before Hawkmoth and before Ladybug. He could never have that. He was forever bound by his demons and his bloodline. Bound to be a vigilante for as long as he could stay alive or until his darkness took over, something he didn’t ever wish for but knew was a possibility.
Marinette’s words rang in his head, “How is this going to work?”
He didn’t know and it made him sick.

Have a lil starker collage AU! Tbh I have no ass clue what this is.

Tony is trying, and failing, to categorize all the ways JARVIS has learned in the last month and its not that JARVIS hasn’t learned anything its just that he has to track code changes and that’s a real pain in his ass. So when Peter calls he’s relieved and not just to see his face.
“Hey baby,” he says, turning away from the damn code. God, its mind numbing work. He should get JARVIS to track his own changes and there’s a thought.
Peter, though, looks a bit harassed. “Oh my god today is the worst,” he says and Tony can see that’s he’s walking with the camera angled up at his face. He’s wearing a pair of Tony’s sunglasses and that’s surprisingly endearing but at the moment he’s got other things to focus on.
“It can’t be worse than that time you threw up on Harry Osborne at that party,” he points out and Peter gives him a dirty look. “Well Flash knocked him into the pool right after and he clearly thought it was the same guy who did both things so I mean, it was a real win for you all things considered.”
Peter squints, “Flash is brown, Tony. There’s no way he thought we were the same guy,” he says but he happens to know Peter is wrong and Osborne didn’t even guess the race of either of them right so there’s no way he’ll ever make the connection not that Peter or Flash know that. They bonded after their accidental embarrassment of Osborne anyway so Tony figures that’s a good thing, maybe. Or at least an improvement over the apparent torment that Flash put Peter through in high school. He’s glad he mostly got to miss out on the high school drama, honestly. Perks of being a genius.
“Osborne is dumber than a sack of hammers with no heads, honey. Trust me when I tell you he had no idea it was you. But back to today, what’s up?” he asks and Peter lets out a huff.
“Okay so first of all when I got on the bus this guy was all ‘Peter, where’s that organic chem class’ so I tell him but I was like how the hell did this guy know my name? So I ask and it turns out he have like five classes together and I never noticed. So that happened and he’s in all my classes this semester too so I can’t escape my shame. Then I have that job interview and I’m wallowing in the shame of not noticing this one guy has been taking classes with me for long enough to know my name and face when the interviewer guy was all ‘where do you see yourself in five years?’ And Tony, I shit you not, I unconsciously giggled and said ‘dead.’ So now I’m running away from that and I can never go to this Starbucks again and its the one that’s closest to campus and I can’t believe I made a suicide joke to a manager at a Starbucks, my life is falling apart,” he says sadly.
He swears he feels bad for it, he does, but Tony starts laughing. Peter gives him a nasty look for it, and Rhodey looks confused when he walks into the lab, but he starts laughing. “You answered ‘where do you see yourself in five years’ with dead?” he asks, mostly for Rhodey’s benefit, but also because he needs to confirm that’s what happened.
Across the room Rhodey snorts and starts laughing too. “Oh my god is that Rhodey laughing?” Peter asks, looking around the screen like he’ll suddenly locate Rhodey. He won't, Tony knows, because he’s not in the frame.
“That’s amazing, man,” Rhodey says from across the room, confirming his presence.
“And now my boyfriend and his best friend are laughing at me like me ruining my own life is funny! Stop it,” Peter says, almost whines really.
And Tony can’t help it, that’s just too fucking funny so he continues laughing. “Baby, I’m sorry but that’s the funniest thing that’s happened since Carol tripped and fell into a god damn garbage can like what’s her face from Mean Girls.”
“It was really mean when we all laughed at Carol and called her lettuce head for like three months,” he says like he wasn’t the one who pointed out the lettuce on her head, resulting in her subsequent nickname. Honestly, Tony didn’t think that’d get any funnier but then Wade showed up and decided to get extra Canadian on them by informing them that Tim Hortons apparently uses lettuce that’s so processed they have to call it ‘green leaf product,’ which is why they all now call Carol green leaf product. Which is made funnier by her thesis supervisor being fully convinced they all mean weed and Carol’s begrudging resistance to telling her the truth on account of she doesn’t want to tell her personal hero she ate trash can once.
“You came up with that, man. What do we call Peter?” Rhodey says. “Only seems fair we give him a mean nickname too.”
Peter looks panicked, “oh my god no!”

Tony figures he might as well enjoy the calm before the storm with Peter in his lap furiously texting Ned and MJ about his shitty day. Its only a matter of time before he notices that his name in the group chat is different and that Tony was the one who changed it.
“I need new friends MJ and Ned think this is funny too and I don’t think this is funny at all!” Peter says.
“I didn’t think green leaf product was funny either but guess who else has to suffer,” Carol says and he knows, he knows, Carol is trying to lure Peter to the damn group chat.
“Green leaf product is hilarious,” Peter tells her. “I managed to embarrass myself and screw myself out of a job so like. I’m not amused.”
Carols snorts, “dude, you dated up. Suck Tony’s dick for access to his credit card or something,” she tells him.
Peter frowns, “are... are you suggesting I become a prostitute?”
“Yup,” she tells him, not even missing a beat.
“I hate you,” Peter mumbles, turning back to his phone. Carol, because she personally wants to see Tony suffer, pulls out her phone too and he damn well knows she’s texting the group chat.
His phone buzzes, confirming his suspicions and Peter clicks on the notification before he can stop him. “Bleached Brain Cell! Who did- Tony!?” he asks, turning and giving him a betrayed look.
“It was Rhodey’s nickname,” he says and Carol starts cackling.
“Was not, I was there,” she says.
“Guess I need a new boyfriend too, Flash would probably not call me mean names!” he says and Tony frowns.
“Baby, your last brain cell must be extra bleached if you forgot your entire history with Flash started with him calling you mean names,” he says and instantly regrets it.
“I’m moving up my marriage pact with Ned, we’re getting married tomorrow and you’re not invited!” Peter says, crawling out of his lap and stomping off.
Carol cackles, “consider this payback for green leaf product,” she tells him.
Tony flips her off and goes after Peter. “Baby come back, its not that bad my nickname in the group chat is squirtle, that’s definitely worse!” he calls as he follows Peter upstairs to their room.

Birds, Bugs, and Ballroom dancing
@ozmav I love you for this idea because “What is sweeter than ballroom dancing with a gentleman, that respects you, in formal wear.”
This started small, I swear!
 Birds, Bugs, and Ballroom dancing
 Tonight was the night of the Wayne Charity Gala, THE EVENT this year, and our 2 favorite people are getting ready.
Marinette and Tikki:
Marinette was fluttering around her hotel room in a tizzy, getting herself worked up and nervous.
“Marinette calm down you have nothing to be worried about, tonight will be wonderful for you.” Tikki cheered.
“But what if I trip, or step on Damien’s feet! What if I’m over-dressed? What if I’m under-dressed?!” Marinette stressed.
“You are being silly Marinette, Damien won’t care if you trip or step on his feet and you look beautiful.”
And she did, Marinette was wearing a light pink gown with layered skirt with black detailing (you know that leaked picture, THAT dress).  Her hair was also loose from its normal twin tails, only pinned back with some delicate looking hair pins, with makeup that high-lighted her blue bell eyes.
Marinette did her best to take some deep calmed breathes.
“Right, right, Damien would never make fun of me like that.”
“And?” Tikki prompted.
“…And I look beautiful.” Marinette finished quietly.
You see Tikki has been trying to help Marinette with her self-worth, especially after Lie-la showed up and her class proved that they only share one brain cell between all of them, with gentle encouragement and praise for all the effort Marinette puts into her civilian/Ladybug life.
“That’s right!  Let no-one tell you otherwise!”
Marinette paced for a little while longer, trying to keep calm and listening to Tikki’s words.
“I’m proud of you Marinette, you managed your time well, so you won’t be late or rushing to get ready.”
Marinette stopped pacing and smiled at Tikki.
“Thank you Tikki, I’ve working really hard to get caught up in my thoughts and worries, so I wouldn’t get distracted.”
“It shows!” Tikki cheered.
“What time was Damien’s butler supposed to pick you up again?”
“He should be here in about 5 minutes Tikki and his name is Alfred Pennyworth, Damien says he can be a bit formal.”
Marinette looked at the clock.
“Come on Tikki let’s head down to the lobby so we don’t keep him waiting.”
“Great idea Marinette, now don’t forget to have fun…and try and sneak me some cookies.”
“I’ll try Tikki.” Marinette laughed as she promised.
Tikki flew into a hidden pocket of the layered skirt as Marinette made her way out of the door and to the lobby.
 Lobby:
Upon entering Marinette easily spotted Alfred, Damien having showed her a picture so she could recognise him, and made her way over.
“Hello Mr.Pennyworth my name is Marinette Dupain-Cheng, thank you for coming to pick me up I hope it wasn’t an issue.”
“Hello Ms. Dupain-Cheng, it was no issue and please, call me Alfred.”
“Only if you call me Marinette, I know my last name can be a bit long.”
“Certainly Ms.Marinette, now if would please follow me to the car I will escort you to the gala.”
Alfred then lead Marinette outside, holding the door to lobby open for her, and bringing her to the “car”, Marinette stopped when seeing the vehicle.
“Alfred… that’s not a car.”
“Perhaps not a standard one, but by definition it is a “car” Ms.Marinette.” Alfred said while holding the car door open for her.
In all honesty that “car” was a limo, stunned, Marinette slowly made her way over and slid into her seat.  Alfred gently shut the door behind her and made his way to the driver’s seat. After Alfred sat down and started the limo he addressed Marinette.
“Ms.Marinette, Master Damien would like to apologize for not coming to pick you up himself, he unfortunately had a problem come up at Wayne Enterprise.”
“It’s okay Alfred, I know if he could pick me up he would, I’m just happy I won’t have to take a taxi in this dress.”
Alfred looked at Marinette in the review mirror looking almost scandalized.
“A lovely young women taking a taxi alone in Gotham at night? Certainly not!  If I had not been available to escort you, I’m certain someone else would have.”
Marinette blushed at being called “lovely” and the drive to the gala continued.
 Gala:
Damien was straightening his tie in the mirror(Damien is wearing a standard high end suit), the gala was just starting to get underway and guests were slowly beginning to arrive, when Dick walked up behind him.
“Hey Baby Bird, we finally get to meet you Lady Bird.”
“Grayson please refrain from any ridiculous nick-names tonight, this is meant to be a formal event.”
“What Demon Spawn means is he does want us to embarrass him in front of his date.” Jason interrupted as he and Tim walked in as well.  Damien flushed faintly, which he claims is from being too warm in his suit, at Jason’s statement.
“I don’t believe I asked your opinion Todd.” Damien stated, turning his head away from Jason.
Tim couldn’t help himself from teasing Damien either.
“Like the brat could actually get a date Jason, let alone a cute one.”
“Drake!” Damien growled.
“Come on guys, if we get into a fight now we’ll mess up our suits and then Alfred will be disappointed in all of us.” Dick tried to reason.
The other 3 stopped not wanting to face Alfred’s disappointment, just in time, as Bruce walked in to gather up the boys.
“Come on boys, the people are starting to arrive and Damien; Alfred will be arriving with Marinette soon, you might want to go greet her.”
Damien walked to the entrance, with his brothers and Bruce following behind him.
 Entrance:
The Wayne family began welcoming the guests as they came and smiling for the media, when a break between arrivals came up; Dick, Jason and Tim continued quietly teasing Damien.
“She probably bailed” Jason started.
“There’s no-way he even had a date to begin with.” Tim insulted.
“I’m sure she’s real, coming, and a really pretty bird.” Dick enthused.
“Shut up all of you.” Damien said trying not snarl.
“Alright boys that enough, besides Alfred just pulled up and we want to make a good impression.” Bruce informed, pulling the boys attention to the limo.
The car stopped, Alfred came out, walked over to rear passenger door and opened it, holding his hand out to assist the passenger.  A small grasped Alfred’s and Marinette stepped out of the limo, looking to be quite a vision to Damien.  Marinette looked up and saw Damien, she smile and waved before making her way over to him.
As Marinette walked, the boys were stunned.
“Holy Sh*t, she’s real.” Tim muttered.
“Holy Sh*t, she’s pretty.” Jason mumbled.
Dick just smiled like a loon and Bruce did his best to look like a sane person.
“Hi Damien, thank you for inviting me, everything looks so gorgeous.” Marinette complimented when she reached him.
Damien managed to shake himself loose of his stupor and answer Marinette.
“Hello Marinette, I’m pleased you could come.”
Damien then introduced Marinette to Bruce.
“Father this is Marinette Dupain-Cheng, Marinette this is my father.”
“It’s nice to meet you Mr. Wayne; Damien has told me so much about you.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you Marinette and please call me Bruce, anyone who can make Damien smile is always wonderful to meet.”
Bruce shook Marinette’s hand gently, subtly looking over at his youngest and shooting him a secret smile. Damien felt his ears warm up and felt the need to leave before his brothers gained their bearings.
“Marinette, I’m thrilled you like the outside setting, but this is nothing compared to the inside; let me show you.”  
Damien offered his arm for Marinette to take, after she took it, began to guild her to the main hall. Just in time it seems, as Dick, Jason and Tim finally got a hold of them-selves.  Shaking their heads, looking to where Damien and Marinette went to, and then looking at each other; they smiled and took off after the duo. Leaving Bruce behind pinching the bridge of his nose as Alfred appeared beside him.
“She’s a lovely young lady Master Bruce and I believe she balances out Master Damien very well.”
“That may be Alfred, but that won’t mean anything if the other boys scare her off first.”
“Oh, I wouldn’t worry too much sir; I believe Ms.Marinette can hold her own if she needs to.”
 Inside:
“Your Dad seems very nice Damien, but why didn’t you introduce the other 3 that were there with him?”
“Those 3 are unfortunately my brother’s, all of whom I would prefer you wouldn’t meet just yet.”
“Aw, Baby Bird, why would you say something like that?  Don’t you love us?” Damien turned in surprise at Dick’s voice, finally noticing that Dick, Jason, and Tim, had followed Marinette and himself to the main hall.
“Yeah brat, don’t you love us.” Tim snickered.
“He probably just didn’t want to share this cuties attention, speaking of which…” Jason turned to Marinette and greeted.
“Hello darling I’m Jason, the more charming of us.”
Jason lifted Marinette’s hand and placed a kiss to the air above the back of it.  Marinette couldn’t help but turn pink, true it didn’t touch, but the gesture was there.  As Marinette tried to respond, Dick was then pushing Jason out of the way.
“Don’t listen to him sweet heart, I’m the more charming one, my name Richard; but please call me Dick.” Taking Marinette’s hand that Jason “kissed” and squeezing it gentle with both of his.
Again Marinette tried to answer, but was interrupted by Tim this time.  Tim had grabbed her hand that Dick was holding and spun her to face him.
“Ignore them cutie-pie, they’re puffed up idiots, I’m Tim let me know if you would like to dance, I’ll be happy to be your partner.”  Tim said as he brushed his thumb across Marinette’s knuckles.
“But, I wanted to be her partner Timmy.” Dick playfully whined.
“And have you drag her across the floor with your dancing, your nuts Dick.” Jason jabbed.
Marinette look to Damien to help with this strange situation she was in, what she saw Damien trying not to explode at his brothers.  Thankfully Alfred came to the rescue.
“Master���s Dick, Jason, and Tim, did you really leave Master Bruce to deal with welcoming the guests all by himself?”
Dick, Jason, and Tim looked at each other and tried to defend themselves.
“But Damien…” Dick started.
“Had a personal guest he was waiting for and was planning to escort, you gentlemen on the other hand do not. Now please leave Master Damien and Ms.Marinette alone for their evening and rejoin Master Bruce at the entrance.”
Dick, Jason, and Tim just nodded their heads, no one argues with Alfred and wins, and started to make their way back with Alfred pulling up the rear.  Before he was out of site Alfred looked over his shoulder and shot Damien a smirk and wink, then was gone.
“Damien…what just happened.” Marinette asked.
“My brothers are nuisances and Alfred is a hero.” Damien explained; with his eyes shut pinching the bridge of his nose.
“I’m sure they didn’t mean any harm Damien.”
“I know they don’t, but they seem to make it their mission to get on my last nerve and embarrass me.” Damien sighed and looked at Marinette and couldn’t help but add on.
“Especially when I have such lovely company.”
Marinette turn a sweet pink at Damien’s words and gave a shy smile.
“Still, it must be nice to have some siblings, being an only child can get a little lonely.”
“I would offer to share them, but after what just happened, it would best that I don’t.” Damien joked cause Marinette to giggle into her hands.  Damien offered his arm again and smirked.
“Now, believe I promised to show you around the main hall.”
“Indeed you did, and best keep that promise.” Marinette teased back taking his arm and allowing Damien to show her around.
Damien lead her about, stopping to try some of the food offered (Marinette managed to sneak Tikki some cookies), when Damien insisted that she close her before he showed her his favorite part of the gala.
“Alright you can open your eyes now Marinette.”
She did and what she saw was a mirror.
“Damien, your favorite part is a mirror?”
“No, my favorite part is what is reflected in the mirror.” Damien chuckled.
“But that’s just us…oh” Marinette blushed brightly as she caught on.
“Yes, my favorite part is that fact you agreed to join me.”
“I always enjoy spending time with you Damien, it doesn’t need to be a large event.”
“Maybe not, but how can I pass up a chance to see the lovely Marinette in a wonderful gown.  Of which, I’m sure is her own design.”
Marinette confirmed that it was, Damien then grabbed her hand.
“Now, may I ask the fair lady for a dance?” Damien requested bowing slightly over her hand.
“Certainly my good sir, it would be a pleasure.” Marinette giggled as she curtsied in return.
Once again arm in arm, they made their way to the dance floor, Marinette felt the need to warn Damien.
“I’ve never danced before Damien.”
“That’s fine Marinette all you need to do is trust me and all will be well.”
“But what if I step on your feet?” Marinette concern from earlier arose again.
“That is perfectly normal when you are first learning to dance and besides even if you did step on my feet I’m truly sure I would feel it.”
They reached the dance floor and Damien began a basic waltz, counting out the beats for Marinette to follow. Marinette was surprised on quickly she had picked the dance up, normally being a klutz and all, and voiced this to Damien.
“Marinette, then only times you are a “klutz” is when you’re nervous and unsure.  Any other time you rather graceful.  And want to make sure you are never nervous around me, I want to be able to inspire confidence in you.”
Marinette was touched by Damien statement, before Lila even everyone was just telling her to be more confident and to “get over” nervousness. Marinette wanted let Damien know she felt the same.
“And want you to know that you never have to be someone you’re not Damien, that you are allowed to have your faults and errors, just like me.”
Damien gave a smile and a gentle squeeze to her hand, letting her know without words that he understood, as they danced on in to the night.
As the gala came to an end, as good things do, Alfred drove Marinette back to the hotel, with Damien joining her, and dropped her off the lobby.  
 Lobby:
Walking Marinette to the elevator, because walking her to her room seemed too much, Damien stopped and wished Marinette a good night and placed a kiss on the back of her hand.
“Thank you for the wonderful evening Marinette, you made my night.” Damien told the blushing girl.
“I should be thanking you Damien, I couldn’t have gone without you, but…”
“But?” Damien looked at her with worry, had he done something wrong?
“Maybe, maybe we could go out again in a less formal setting?  Like-like a d-date?” Marinette had spent all night trying to build herself up to ask this question.
Damien felt like he couldn’t believe his ears.
“Truly!?”
“Only of you want to. I don’t want you to feel…” Damien managed to politely cut off Marinette’s rambling.
“I would love to Marinette, it would be an honor.”
“We can text each other details tomorrow?”
“Of course Marinette, I look forward to hearing from you.”
The door to the elevator opened signaling it was time for Marinette to go up, but Marinette had one last thing she wanted to do before she lost her nerve.
“Damien.” Marinette said getting his attention.
“Yes Marinette?”
Marinette placed her hand on his shoulder, pulling him down and her up, and placed a light kiss on Damien cheek.  There was a brief pause, to absorb what Marinette just did, and then she bolted into the elevator saying in a rushed tone.
“Bye-Damien-see-you-tomorrow.”
Leaving a speechless Damien holding his cheek, as he walked back to Alfred and the car.
 Marinette’s Room:
“Tikki what did I just do!?”
Tikki flew out of her hidden pocket.
“Something wonderful!”
 In the car with Alfred and Damien:
Damien slid in, still unable to speak and holding his cheek, Alfred could help but chuckle at his young Masters face.
“I’m guessing all went well with Ms.Marinette, Master Damien?”
“Yes, well.”
“Do you and Ms.Marinette have plans for tomorrow?”
“Yes, plans.”
“Please remember to sleep Master Damien; it wouldn’t do you any good to fall asleep in the middle of your outing with the lady.”
“Yes, sleep.”
Knowing that was the most he was going to get out of Damien for the rest of the night, Alfred then drove back to the manor.
End.
That was Birds, Bugs, and Ballroom dancing.
