(look at me go, not asking anonymously for once lol)
ā€œthe web is underratedā€ ā€œthe buried is underratedā€ ā€œthe dark is the most underratedā€Ā
yes. you are right, i agree. but they are all underrated. none of the fears get the attention they deserve.
-the dark and the end are almost completely forgotten about due to their perceived simplicity.
-the buried, the flesh, the hunt, etc are so unexplored, no one bothers to look any deeper into them.
-the desolation is not just fire, but no one ever tries to represent it some other way.
-donā€™t get me started on the whole spiral-distortion thing (perhaps i will make this a future confession bc oh boy do i have a lot to say).
with all of them people seem to be scared of diverging from the explicit canon representations.
no one seems to care about the fears anymore. THE fears. you know, the one thing that makes tma so special? iā€™ve lost count of the number of times iā€™ve seen someone say ā€œafter listening to tma i can never look at things the same. i always categorise them by the entitiesā€
thatā€™s all they are treated as, categories. perhaps this is an odd way to describe horrific manifestations of our deepest fears, but i think they are beautiful concepts. i could spend hours thinking about each one and the ways they bleed into one another, i probably have.Ā
yeah, at this point smirkeā€™s 14 are old news, but there are always new angles to explore. we saw that in season 5 of tma, and we are seeing it now in tmagp (though the fears are of course different). why did we stop talking about that? (i wasnā€™t actually on tumblr when tma was happening so idk. maybe no one ever cared)Ā
talk about the fears, put your ideas for unconventional statements or avatar or whatever out there, thereā€™s an audience (me at least). say stuff about how different fears crossover, or some new aspect of one. ā€œbut surely people would have already said this at some pointā€ respectfully, i donā€™t give a shit. if i come across mutliple posts analysing a similar aspect of the vast, iā€™m going to be fucking overjoyed. because much of the fears is up to intepretation, they have slightly different meanings to different people, so every single personā€™s interpretation adds value and adds something unique. i see a little of this, but not enough.
we should keep discussing the fears. i donā€™t know why we ever stopped.
(sorry this is so long and rambling, i hope you can see the points iā€™m trying to make.)
šŸ—£ļø iā€™d love to hear your thoughts on this
Literally this. Agree with all of it
Some things:
The Desolation can be natural disasters, including floods, storms and earthquakes. Water is just as destructive as fire
The Dark can be not knowing something. It overlaps with the eye yes, but it still counts
The Corruption is shown to be a response to loneliness, not the opposite of it. Its being so lonely you seek out community, no matter how dangerous it may be. Every single corruption statement has references to loneliness
The Spiral says its a liar, but its never done that, only changing your perception of reality to make what it says true. It is delusion not manipulation
The Slaughter is never portrayed outside of war, which is strange because sheer unhinged violence has so much variety

Which fear entities I think that the DBD squad would get marked by/serve:
Edwin: He would definitely be marked by an insane combination of The Stranger, The Hunt, and The Web (for, uh... obvious reasons), but in terms of avatarhood, he would be excellent as an avatar of The Eye. Edwin's a detective, after all, and he's all about knowledge and finding out more and more things---and we've seen him take things a little too far. Hell, him crossing a line, however small, for the sake of the case is the reason why the entire plot happens. He's Eye-coded to the core.
Charles: Due to his issues with rage, I think he'd both be marked by The Slaughter and, if the worst-case scenario happens, become an avatar of it. Either that, or he'd be an avatar of The Vast, which seems to be the go-to entity for guys who mask their trauma and severe mental health issues with a happy-go-lucky nature.
Crystal: While making her an avatar of The Eye is tempting, I actually think that she'd be marked by The Eye, and instead be an avatar of The Web. Everything we see of her powers beyond just her psychic skills is incredibly Web-coded, and we can't deny that her personality pre-memory loss was... pretty typical behavior of a Web avatar. Even now, she feels like a Web girl who uses her powers for good instead.
Niko: Marked by The Lonely due to her self-isolating and lack of connections when we meet her (also, her hair literally turns white, you can't get more marked-by-The-Lonely than that), and eventually becomes an avatar of The Spiral. Am I saying that because it's the only entity that fits her brightness and slightly out-there personality? Maybe, but you can't deny that everything related to the dandelion sprites is very Spiral-coded.
Jenny: Slaughter-marked, avatar of The Flesh. The girl literally owns a butchery, you can't get more Flesh than that.
Monty: Probably marked by The Hunt due to literally being a crow, and... uh, Vast avatar? Because he likes space, I guess? He's difficult to pin.
The Cat King: Hunt. No question about it.
Esther: Marked by The End, avatar of The Web. Very much so.
Tragic Mick: He strikes me as a combo avatar of The Vast and The Lonely, if only due to his connection to the sea. However, you do have to argue that his entire deal is very fitting to both of them.
The Night Nurse: The woman literally works for Death. How could she be anything other than an avatar of The End.

i absolutely adore Welcome Home and even though this post might be niche I think it's worth it šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰
Wally is ABSOLUTELY an avatar of the eye. Look at that little fucker. He EATS with his EYES. He has SOME FORM of sentience or self awareness. He literally looks at you through the screen. Eye avatar that's also touched by the Spiral? Even though they counteract a bit I feel it makes sense.. False friendships, your mind is Lying to you, madness, et cetera,.
Frank is absolutely an avatar of the corruption. Look at this motherfucker and tell me he is not FASCINATED by bugs and mold and rot. He has fucking SHELVES of self written notebooks filled to the brim.
Poppy would probably be an avatar of the End or the Extinction- look at her. Stuck in her barn, afraid to even touch cooking materials. Paranoia driving her to the Lonely, maybe??
Julie. Julie is wholeheartedly, probably not an avatar. I cannot think of anything I'd classify her as. Same with Howdy, I don't think he'd be an avatar of anything except maybe Corruption? Because he's a bug.
Eddie. Eddie you are ABSOLUTELY a surviving victim of the Stranger. Never getting the name of the unknown place he came from right, not talking much about his mother despite clearly looking up to her or having an otherwise positive relationship due to his profession and disposition? TEEEXTBOOK I Left and Came Back Wrong.
Barnaby. I adore Barnaby.,,., I feel like he wouldn't be an avatar exactly but definitely affiliated with Something. Maybe the flesh? The animalistic dread that you are only electrified meat, manifesting as bones, meat, animals, slaughterhouses? Fear of body horror, dysmorphia, being eaten or killed for meat? There are things insinuating he was killed (a patch in Wally's chair with his pattern, etc) so maybe.,
Sally!! Sally is is very Likely an avatar of the Vast in my opinion. Look at her introduction; it speaks for itself. "Sally had once been the brightest star in the sky, even more than those that surrounded her. However, upon looking down at a nearby celestial body from her spot, she knew there were still places she had yet to truly shine and fell from above as a shooting star. She has seemingly accomplished her aspired stardom, as there are only nine visible neighbors in Home, all of whom know her." Though that may be too surface level? I'm writing this slightly inebriated. Oops.
House.. House is wholeheartedly an avatar of the Web or Slaughter.. maybe both? Lots of calculated violence and secrets hidden below it.. Not sure, thougg.

Based off a post I saw with the idea that Robert Smirke had fourteen friends, each falling too/representing a different entity, with Smirke himself being the Extinction.
To get the obvious ones out of the way: Jonah Magnus as the Eye, Mordechai Lukas as the Lonely, Maxwell Rayner as the Dark, and George Gilbert Scott as the Buried; these ones are all canon. Not directly canon but a pretty reasonable assumption is Simon Fairchild as the Vast; we know Simon had Maxwell Rayner help him with his Awful Deep ritual in 1853, which was only a few years before Smirke died, and Smirke hung out with Rayner a ton, so it makes sense for Simon to be part of the group (though by a different name; he only started going by ā€œSimon Fairchildā€ in the 1930s). Another fairly reasonable assumption, in my opinion, is John Franklin for the Hunt. Franklin is canonically a Hunt avatar in The Magnus Archives, his real-life timeline overlaps with Smirke and the rest, and Rayner was canonically interested in his expedition, which was probably because he wanted to use Franklinā€™s knowledge of arctic exploration for his ritual, but could also imply they knew each other, and therefore, Smirkeā€™s gang.
For the Corruption, my first thought was John Amherst, but he only became an avatar during the Second Boer War, which was about half a century after Smirkeā€™s time. Instead, John Snow is a better fit. He was an English physician who lived during the same time as Smirke, and he had something going on; his descendant Neil Thompson has a syringe that belonged to Snow that had Corruption properties, so Snow fits. For the Slaughter, we could go with Charles Fleming. We know he was in China from at least the beginning of the First Opium War in 1839, and Smirke and Jonah and the rest were up and active on their supernatural studies since at least the 1810s, so itā€™s theoretical Fleming could have hung out with them, even though he didnā€™t become touched by the Slaughter until he went to China. Maybe he came back later, though he was in China at least until 1862. Alternatively, William Hall, the actual captain of the Nemesis, could be an option, his lifetime overlaps pretty well with Smirkeā€™s, though there is no evidence he interacted with the Slaughter besides his interactions with Fleming and the Nemesis. Still, he was probably a bit more high-society that Fleming, so I kind of prefer him. Finally, for the more reasonable ones, we have Joey Grimaldi for the Stranger. Grimaldiā€™s timeline overlaps with Smirkeā€™s, and we know he was affected by the Stranger even before he was turned into Nikola Orsinov. The reason Iā€™m choosing Grimaldi instead of Gregor Orsinov or Nikolai Denikin is that we know for sure he was in England while Smirke was, unlike the other two.
Now for the more out-there guesses. For the Flesh, there are a few options. One is Eustace Wick, the Lutheran priest-turned-cannibal, who did live at the same time as Smirke, but he became an avatar in 1832, died in 1845, and has no evidence that heā€™d even been to England, considering heā€™s American. The other options would be Benjamin Carlisle, Benjaminā€™s unnamed wife, or possibly some other relative or descendant of theirs. I find this one the more likely choice, because Jonathan Sims specifically wonders how Benjamin Carlisleā€™s wife was able to give her statement to the Magnus Institute, considering she starved to death in a cave on the Oregon Trail in 1845, as well as the fact that an apparent descendant of her, Toby Carlisle, is living in England by the 21st Century and has enough of a connection with the Flesh to be pretty severely affected by the failure of the Last Feast ritual. The unnamed Mrs. Carlisle being the Flesh representative does mean she presumably gave in and cannibalized her husband, and the timeline only gives her about a decade to have hung out with the rest before Smirkeā€™s death, but I think that fits, considering what Smirke said about just coming up with theories about the Flesh in his statement.
The Spiral has similarly not a lot to go on. I would just say the Distortion, seeing as itā€™s an immortal manifestation of the Spiral itself. We know that Ivo Lenshikā€™s father was tormented by the Distortion in a human form, and apparently Lenshikā€™s great-uncle did too, implying that the Distortion did assume a humanoid form sometimes, before it was forced to by the failure of the Great Twisting ritual. Plus, Jonah Magnus clearly knows who the Distortion is, which yes, he could have learned at literally any point from the past two hundred years, but seeing as weā€™ve got nothing else, Iā€™ll choose to believe. For the Web, the only older avatars of the Web weā€™re aware of would be the historical owners of the house at Hill Top Road. We donā€™t know who owned it during Smirkeā€™s time; the closest we have are the unnamed blackmailer who died during the English Civil War in the mid-1600s, and Walter Fielding, who died in 1923. Walterā€™s son and grandson both owned the house for about thirty years before dying, so with the same amount of time applied, Walter couldnā€™t be our Web avatar. Honestly, the answer might just have to be ā€œwhichever Web avatar was owning the house at Hill Top Road during the first half of the 19th Century.ā€
For the Desolation, we have even less. Diego Molina founded the Cult of the Lightless Flame at some point prior to World War II, but we have no idea when, and it couldnā€™t have been that long, considering what Eugene Vanderstock says about the immortality of Desolation avatars having some kind of limit. The same is true of the End. The only known End avatar who was alive during Smirkeā€™s time was Nathaniel Thorp, who was a Death at the time, and didnā€™t become human again until 1970. Itā€™s unlikely that Deaths got breaks to socialize.
So, in summary, we know for sure about:
* Jonah Magnus ā€” The Eye
* Mordechai Lukas ā€” The Lonely
* Maxwell Rayner ā€” The Dark
* George Gilbert Scott ā€” The Buried
We can make some reasonable assumptions about:
* Simon Fairchild ā€” The Vast
* John Franklin ā€” The Hunt
We can make educated guesses about:
* John Snow ā€” The Corruption
* William Hall ā€” The Slaughter
* Joey Grimaldi ā€” The Stranger
We can make complete guesses about:
* Mrs. Carlisle ā€” The Flesh
* The Distortion ā€” The Spiral
* Owner of the house at Hill Top Road ā€” The Web
And we have nothing for:
* The Desolation
* The End
If anyone has ideas or things I missed, let me know.

what do you think the mechs would be avatars of? my first thought was slaughter for the group as a whole bc,, duh. but now that im thinking about it, i think they'd be more eye/end aligned. because their whole thing is stories and the part they clearly deem most important is the end right? theres all the blood and gore in the middle but the important bit is everyone dies at the end
individually though, not as a whole group they're all sorts of stuff i think
ashes would be desolation for sure with all the fire and the likes, and hades makes me think web too? they're the one behind the scenes pulling the strings (granted, usually for their own entertainment but who can blame em really)
toy soldier would be stranger, once again for obvious reasons. im not really sure if theres much crossover on this one really.
jonny i reckon would be eye and slaughter, mans cares for two things and its violent crime and a good story (amen!)
brian is SO lonely coded like?? its in the backstory song man,, also vague end-ness probably, though tbf they probably all have that end cloud by virtue of being the mechanisms. maybe vast too
tim would be slaughter too, he loves a good murder spree but i feel like theres something else and ive just forgotten like half the fears lmao OUGH hunt maybe? tim goes crazy is very hunt coded
ivy is SO immensely eye. she's literally an archivist. she gathers and stores aaallll that information but her emotional connection to it is reset every night. thats so eye!!
nastya is definitely lonely, at least towards the end but probably the whole time (from what little i know of cyberian demons) and maybe dark? that ones 100% vibes i have no explanation
marius has very spiral vibes i think. hes just a silly guy ur honour i think he deserves it. i cant really think of any other one for him tbh
and raph is quite stranger coded i think, idk the detachment from humanity that comes with being a mad scientist just feels very stranger to me? more so than the average mechs detatchment from humanity
i dont know why i made this post but ive been rotating end/eye mechs in my brain for a couple days just because i think the idea of s5 jmart stumbling across a domain thats kind of an accumulation of the various album aettings and music that can be heard from anywhere in the domain and victims living/reliving the parts of the characters is very very cool and i needed to word vomit it somewhere

Guyysssā€¦ the autism caught up to meā€¦, Iā€™m currently thinking about assigning TMA fears to omori characters
Very vague omori and tma spoilers for this rant Iā€™m about to go on ā¬‡ļø
But genuinely though Iā€™m thinking really hard about it-
Basil is the most obvious to me- I feel like Basil must be a flesh avatar right? Because of the floral theming? Yeah heā€™s a flesh gardener for sure (although one could make the argument for corruption due to his abandonment issues and need to be loved, but in that sense I feel the corruption is the fear heā€™d die to while the flesh is the fear heā€™d embrace and become an avatar for in the situation that he did)
Sunny is more complicated he doesnā€™t have as obvious of a matchā€¦ my first thought was actually end avatar because omoriā€™s personality works well with the whole inevitability thing end avatars have going on, plus the only end avatar I know about (Oliver whatā€™s his name) is associated with dreams so maybe he OLIVER BANKS THAT WAS HIS NAME anyway. So maybe sunny would have a similar death-in-dreams theme? But if weā€™re talking dreams and sleep we gotta at least consider the dark right? Unseen beasts shrouded in shadow? That gives somthing energy in a way ā€¦
I could also pretty easily see him as a web avatar for how he crafts narratives and stories, plus! Spiders! Gotta love that aesthetic
I think Aubrey makes a pretty good hunt avatar, sheā€™s got the right personality for it and I can imagine her being very afraid of her short temper getting the better of her and hurting someone she cares aboutā€¦ thatā€™s a very hunt thing
Kel and Hero are weird because I have no idea what to do with them
Kel I feel likeā€¦ stranger? The stranger is a very whimsical and positive avatar and the idea of masks and not knowing who you are is good for Kel with the wholeā€¦. Burying his emotions and dumbing down his personality to ignore his grief and please those around himā€¦ also clown kel sounds like a lot of fun and I wanna draw that
Thinking of it now I think Hero must be a lonely avatar right? But less in the way Martin is and more in the way Peter Lukas is, not an inability to connect but a willful self imposed isolation, basically what he did after Mari died but dialed up several times
Now. Mari. Mari ā€¦ Mari ā€¦. Mari ā€¦ The Eye? As a consequence of perfectionism she might seek knowledge to better herself and become obsessed with the idea of improving her skills through consuming more and more informationā€¦ sounds pretty classically eye avatar right? The pursuit of perfection through knowledge? And I know thatā€™s not her whole character but the thing about TMA fears is they tend to eventuate your worst characteristics and since perfectionism is Mariā€™s main flaw that might dictate which fear sheā€™d fall into
Also. The one eye? Yeah
Final thoughts:
Basil- Very definitely a flesh avatar, I mean. Flesh garden is RIGHT THERE you canā€™t not right? Also the flesh is my favorite of the 14 fears and Basil is my favorite character so naturally I would put the two together
Sunny- probably a Web avatar honestly? He does clearly feel a need for control in headspace based on how things work there, if he were given the opportunity to do that in his real life? Thatā€™s a power he could fall victim to I feel
Kel- Stranger avatar makes the most sense for him and his issues, I like the imagery of kind ofā€¦ ship of Theseus-ing yourself into a wooden doll to represent changing yourself for the sake of others
Hero- lonely ā€¦. Realistically ā€¦ but I WANT him to be a vast avatar because that was be very cool aesthetically, but realistically he is a Lonely avatar for sure
Mari- the Eye, would be fucked up if she did the trope of died and came back wrong like that archivist monster from that one episode? But avatar wise Mari is an Eye one
Nobody is gonna see this post because the overlap of Omori fans and TMA fans is so so small but whatever, my peace is said !!! Also I might draw some of these ideas (flesh basil, eye Mari, and stranger kel sound very fun to draw)

Stats Time!
All right, are you ready for some data analysis? I'll give an overview in this post, and then I'll probably analyse the data per Fear over the next while if there's demand for it (This post is long enough already).
Global stats
So far, as of the polls currently finished (up to the Bigby Wolf poll when I started making this) there have been 331 characters polled from 247 different sources. The average percentage for each option (leaving out the see results option and the polls from before the other fears option) were:
Yes, willingly: 44.48%
Yes, by coercion: 9.67%
Yes, by unawareness or conditioning: 24.31%
No, they would decline/resist from the start: 8.03%
No, they would go along but stop before transformation: 4.41%
No, they would already be an avatar for another Fear: 9.10%
Tumblr media
I doubt people are submitting characters because they think they won't be an avatar, which I think accounts for how much more "Yes" votes there are in general, especially for "Yes, willingly".
For more heroic characters, if they are going to be an avatar it would make sense it would be by unawareness or conditioning. Some characters would probably have to get to the point that the alternative is death before they'd choose to become an avatar (though it's important to remember that anyone who becomes an avatar does have to make a choice).
Coercion and stopping before transformation are proportionally less used than other options. I suppose both are more unusual situations and less generally applicable for many characters, but it's possible that these options are just being underutilised. You guys will have to be the judges of that!
The Fears
Fear Submitted Avatars
The Buried: 7 3
The Corruption: 23 21
The Dark: 4 4
The Desolation: 32 31
The End: 27 26
The Extinction: 17 14
The Eye: 25 25
The Flesh: 13 13
The Hunt: 29 27
The Lonely: 31 27
The Slaughter: 30 28
The Spiral: 31 30
The Stranger: 21 19
The Vast: 10 9
The Web: 45 43
(Sorry about the funky table, Tumblr isn't really built for this)
The Web had by far the most submissions and avatars. I'd guess that this is probably due to the fact that villains are in general going to be more likely to want to become an avatar (few moral scruples, desire for power) and more likely to be Web aligned specifically (all that scheming). That, or Web aligned characters are just more popular!
The Dark was the least popular Fear with a grand total of only 4 submissions! I suppose it's a bit basic, maybe? Compared to the other Fears it's kind of hard to know what defines a Dark avatar in terms of personality. Still, I'm sure there's more out there! There are a couple of recent submissions in the inbox actually now that I think about it, but it'll take a while to get to those.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There were 25 characters who were deemed to not serve the Fear they were submitted for. Most Fears had 1 or 2 rejections, while Lonely and Buried had 4 each. No submitted characters rejected The Dark, Flesh or Eye though!
The Buried had by far the largest proportion (4/7) of characters rejecting it. I suppose that's pretty appropriate for a Fear that has "poor working conditions" as part of its domain. Like Dark, it also had quite few submissions. There's only a couple in the inbox at the moment too.
Tumblr media
Top Characters by Poll Option
To calculate this, I divided the number of votes for each option by the total, and found the character with the max percentage. I decided to separate the characters into low vote characters and high vote characters based on if they had over 50 voters who knew them, as there is more uncertainty with lower votes.
Most willing:
High Voted - JarethĀ theĀ GoblinĀ King from Labyrinth for The Spiral, 112/121 votes (93%)
Low Voted - Nikolai Gogol from Bungou Stray Dogs for The Spiral, 20/21 votes (95%)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Funny that they're both for The Spiral. The Twisting Deceit has some enthusiastic followers on it's hands!
Most likely to be coerced:
High Voted - Anthy Himemiya from Revolutionary Girl Utena for The Buried, 21/56 votes (38%)
Low Voted - Nathan Wallace from Repo! The Genetic Opera for The Hunt, 16/34 votes (47%)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wow, The Buried had to coerce one of it's 3 avatars? People really don't want to serve that Fear in particular. Interesting to note that even with the most coerced characters that option was still under 50% of the votes! It's definitely not being used as much.
Most unaware:
High Voted - Siffrin from In Stars and Time for The Lonely, 74/113 votes (66%)
Low Voted - Nelson Tethers from Nelson Tethers: Puzzle Agent for The Eye, 9/13 (69%)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Uh, oops. I still haven't reblogged Siffrin's poll, have I? Sorry In Stars and Time fans (Mostly because I want to get around to playing that game, but I've already spoiled several major plot points for myself, so that's hardly an excuse). Anyway, these are most likely to stumble into a Fear, and not realise they are transforming until they get to the point of it being an avatarhood or death choice.
Most resistant:
High Voted - Murderbot from The Murderbot Diaries for The Stranger, 52/83 votes (63%)
Low Voted - Captain Hawkeye Pierce from M*A*S*H for The Slaughter, 25/49 votes (51%)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Funny, these two are both associated with being asked to be violent and resisting. Congrats to them for being able to fight off a Fear outright.
Most likely to stop before transformation:
High Voted - Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender for The Hunt, 77/188 votes (41%)
Low Voted - The Traveler from Chants of Sennaar from The Lonely, 7/34 votes (21%)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This one seems to be even less utilised than the Coercion option proportionally. Zuko is a pretty good example of a character that people thought would fit this scenario, while The Traveller had more votes for decline and unawareness than stopping before transformation.
Most likely to serve another Fear:
High Voted - Jevil from Deltarune for The Buried, 43/74 votes (58%)
Low Voted - Sarah from The Shaperaverse for The Web, 11/30 votes (37%)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Interesting. For Jevil there was quite a clear consensus that the alternative Fear he would serve is The Spiral, but Sarah was voted a Web avatar and there was no clear consensus on what other Fear she would serve instead. She's nearly a rival for Monika in the number suggested. Most of the characters with a high number of votes for this option must be in the High Voted category.
Most unknown:
High Voted - Five Pebbles from Rain World for The Corruption, 41/52 (ratio of 0.79 for voters who did not vs did know this character)
Low Voted - Hijiri Kanna from Puella Magi Kazumi Magica: The Innocent Malice for The Extinction, 28/5 (ratio of 5.6 for voters who did not vs did know this character)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Five Pebbles is a character who has been polled twice, and somehow less people knew him in the second poll! That poll also got less votes, putting it in the Low Voted category, which is why this poll is being featured here. This goes to show that the characters more people knew tend to have more votes on the poll, which is not surprising. The most unknown character is Hijiri Kanna! Not super surprising for a character it was very difficult to find a decent picture of. I'm a fan of Puella Magi Madoka Magica and I had no idea this spinoff existed.
Conclusion
Well, that's all for now! Hope you found that interesting, I know I certainly did. I think it would be interesting to dig into the data Fear by Fear, so let me know if you'd be interested in that! If you have any questions fell free to ask. The spreadsheet is in the pinned post, so you can dig into the data yourself if you want.

JJK x TMA crossover
JJK characters and their entity alignments:
Sorcerers:
- Itadori Yuuji: Has a potential for the Lonely but post Shibuya and 212 especially I think he would lean to the Hunt, similar to Daisy or the vampire hunter guy. He would be marked by the Lonely, both pre and throughout the series but his desire to eradicate curses will be stronger thus making his alignment with the Hubt stronger
- Fushiguro Megumi: I don't think he would have a direct alignment. Not really for the Hunt because he isn't as devoted to killing curses like Yuuji or Maki. The Dark fits only power wise. He could also be marked by the Buried because of the current state of his soul
- Kugisaki Nobara: I can't think of an alignment but she would probably have affinity to the Web because of the nature of her ct
- Okkotsu Yuuta: Currently unaligned, leaning towards the Hunt. Would eventually be fully Hunt after years of killing curses, possibly sped up by Maki being Hunt too. If he never became a sorcerer, he could potentially become Corrupted, the hive preying on his loneliness/isolation due to Rika
- Inumaki Toge: Same as Nobara, the Web affinity because his ct is literal manipulation of others
- Zenin Maki: The Hunt 100%, she is Hunt aligned since the beginning and becomes an avatar after killing the Zenin clan. I was thinking slaughter but Maki has a motivation
- Zenin Mai: She would have an affinity to the Corruption, the envy and jealousy aspect of it. Maybe similar to Jane Prentiss? but she doesn't live long enough to actually get corrupted/properly be aligned
- Gojou Satoru: Would be the Lonely aligned if he hasn't discovered the joy of free falling and the beauty of the vast blue sky when he was a teen and experimenting with infinity. I also just think the Vast!Gojou is more interesting. fanon Satoru from certain shippers is definitely an avatar of the Lonely tho
- Higuruma Hiromi: Marked by the Lonely and the Web, but ultimately belongs to the Eye (credit to my beloved @raven-campanile-rb for this one)
- Kenjaku: He is a mix of the Eye and the Web. The Eye because of the merger and their general interest in knowledge and seeking new experiences, also having witnessed the progress of humanity over the centuries of existence. Their plan was set up over a millennia, carefully puppeteering everyone, perfectly aligned with the Mother of Puppets
- Uro Takako: The Vast, solely based on her technique and also her introduction panel
The curses:
- Mahito: As a curse of the hate humans have for each other his origin could be tied to almost any dread power, his skill set is more aligned with the Flesh (body mutilation) and the Stranger (uncanny aspect of it)
- Hanami and Jogo: Both are born from the actions of the Desolation folks (forest fires and volcanoes/everything fire related) but are aligned with the Buried (Hanami's earth related abilities; Jogo's domain is called a coffin and volcanoes bury things with ash)
- Dagon: The Buried. Dagon is born of water related fears and the Buried includes the fear of drowning

why i would be an avatar of these fear entities:
got this idea from the lovely @totheidiot (who got it from @cult-of-the-eye) - basically experiences that could have marked me and stuff that connects me to the entities. (Disclaimer: I'm only in the middle of season 2 and only know the basic lore, so i don't exactly know what makes you become an avatar)
the Lonely: This is the one i feel most connected to. Loneliness has always found me at different points in my life - mostly because of my social anxiety. I often didn't have many friends, had difficulties connecting with new people, and mostly i even feel disconnected from my friends because i'm scared of opening up and being myself. At this point i feel like it's a part of me. Like it's continuously eating me up but by now i'm embracing it. Also, a close friend of mine says she's had a constant feeling of loneliness ever since she lived with me for a few months. (She says it wasn't my fault, that it's probably just because she was far fom her family and other friends, but still.) So i might already be an irl avatar of the Lonely lol
the Extinction (and maybe this is also a bit of the Vast?): This happened last summer during a holiday in Italy with my family. One night, the whole sky was suddenly lit up by lightnings every few seconds, they formed crazy patterns but stayed in the sky. Then there was also thunder, getting louder and louder, and at one point it just didn't stop anymore. At this point, i actually thought the world was ending. Then the hail started. The hailstones were bigger than tennis balls, and we were in a mobile home, so we were legitimately scared the roof would collapse. I stayed weirdly calm though. It kept going for maybe half an hour, thankfully nobody got hurt.
the Eye: I used to be pretty paranoid as a kid, i often felt like i was being watched when i was alone. I'm also a very curious person who loves learning new stuff, and i can't stand not knowing something, so i often immediately look up things i'm wondering about. Also people on here have told me i'm of the Eye because i can't stop listening to tma although it scares me, like i somehow feel compelled to continue, but idk if that means anything.
the Spiral: I'm not sure if this one counts, but i feel really drawn to the Distortion's weird existence and the whole "it is not what it is" thing. Also "there's no such thing as a real name" is a quote that deeply resonates with me, idk, i just think it's true - and i'm convinced i'll never find a name that feels like it's mine. Also i'm really good at lying, sometimes i lie about little things just for fun.
the Corruption: Corruption to a certain degree gives me comfort because my family's home has always been... idk, "dirty" is the closest word i can think of, but that doesn't really describe it. We regularly clean and all, the rooms look clean at first sight - but there's old, forgotten, sometimes moldy stuff in the cracks and under the furniture and on the kitchen sink, and a lot of walls are moldy in the corners. So it just feels like there's something rotting underneath, and that feeling is comforting to be by now. Unrelated to that, i also still remember that one time i climbed on a tree and suddenly there were ants all over my body and i just jumped and shaked my limbs for like a minute.

I Figured Out Who My Fear Entity Patron Is! (with internet quizzes)
This post contains spoilers for MAG 111 (in Season 3), as well as references to characters in Season 4.
Statement of a certain 'opeothalmologist,' regarding the mystery of a possible marking by an... entity.
Statement found on a blogpost on tumblr.com by the subject, April 26, 2024. Recorded by ā—ā—ā—ā—ā—, member of the Magnus Institute, London.
What if you were marked by one of the fears? How, and by which entity?
I did. Everyone who listens to TMA probably has at some point. So I took a few quizzes and saw what I got.
1: Which Magnus Archives Entity Would You Align With?
Tumblr media
on uquiz, made by kat49
Result: The Eye
My thoughts: Interesting. A thing this and most of the other quizzes do is ask about choices such as preferences (especially hobbies and aesthetics) or worldviews. Cool. And The Eye does fit me and my own fears well.
2: Which entity would be your patron? (The Magnus Archives)
Tumblr media
on uquiz, made by gliitch
Result: The Desolation
My thoughts: The Desolation could fit me. But would I want to serve it for a long period of time? ...No. But a fun quiz nonetheless.
3: Which Magnus Archives Entity are You?
Tumblr media
on quotev, made by Mazebent
Result: The Web
My thoughts: The Web, alongside The Dark and The Vast (neither of which I got, spoiler alert) was one of my top entities to be an avatar for, so I'm happy I got it. A wonderful (and very long, 91 questions) quiz.
4: Which Entity Has Marked You?
Tumblr media
on uquiz, made by kitmoone
Result: The Lonely
My thoughts: Sounds like a painful marking to go through, and serving the same path as Peter Lukas is a big no for me. Still, this quiz had a unique approach with images rather than text choices. Cool.
5: Which TMA Entity Would You Serve?
Tumblr media
on quotev, made by Waterlily (2023)
Result: The Spiral
My thoughts: The description literally is Congratulations! Or perhaps condolences... Are you a real estate agent, by chance?. Love the writing. Maybe I'll stay away from doors, or Helens, or Michaels, for now...
6: Which TMA fear entity should you serve?
Tumblr media
on quotev, made by Jace (2020)
Result: The Web
My thoughts: Huh. Maybe I will become an avatar of The Web sometime, I thought. Then another repeat came:
7: Which TMA fear entity should you serve?
Tumblr media
on quotev, made by BrittishAnarchy (2023)
Result: The Eye
Note: This quiz contains a major spoiler about Elias Bouchard. Take care! (and bring that eye man my worst wishes. I was spoiled of that plot twist myself, long ago lol)
My thoughts: Two repeats. Well, if I do end up as an avatar of The Eye, I can compete with Elias and learn new information immediately. Sounds good! (With a lot of caveatsā€”but still good!)
Thank you for reading this journey through the TMA world with me! If you like Gerry Keay posts and occasional TMA thoughts, consider following (completely optional)!
Statement ends. The statement giver was easy to follow up with, as her Tumblr blog is still active. She did not say anything about the strange images from 4 through 6, or of the green- and red-highlighted wordsā€¦
Only that she was ā€œlucky she lives in a world where the 'fear entities' do not exist.ā€
Then why is this a statement in the archive?

Ok ok time to talk about my tma secret life au (Iā€™ve been working on this with Shrub ( @moonyforests ) so some of the ideas are theirs)
Also tma spoilers (a lil for the start of season 5) ahead so beware
The idea behind this is that the secret life server is a domain in the eyepocalypse (weā€™re thinking probably a web one because of their tasks but maybe spiral idk)
The secret keeper is watching in place of the giant eye(s) in the sky so the people in the server are less suspicious of whatā€™s going on
The tasks all correspond to an entity (or multiple, or partially one and a lot of another, Robert Smirke was wrong guys the entities overlap so much). For example letā€™s take Gemā€™s session one task ā€˜convince someone to take a leap of faith and make sure they take no damageā€™. This is so so so Vast I literally cannot iterate enough how Vast this is. We also have BigBā€™s session one task, ā€˜Dig a big hole. All the way down. At least 3x3. Make it your base if you wantā€™. Ignoring the weirdness of the phrasing for a second (Iā€™ll return your attention to BigB later in this very long post), this is quite obviously Buried. However some tasks such as Grianā€™s ā€˜make 3 bad jokes and get NO laughsā€™ doesnā€™t particularly seem to be any of them. We can assign it one at a stretch (perhaps lonely) but it isnā€™t obvious.
This domain is slightly odd since we have several avatars in it (who the domain doesnā€™t belong to). We can probably say that the secret keeper is the avatar of this domain, since itā€™s responsible for the tasks, but who knows?
Letā€™s talk about BigB. If youā€™ve seen some of my previous posts you probably know Iā€™m already headcanoning him as the distortion. It just makes so much sense. The gaslighting, the weird corri-door and just everything heā€™s doing is very very distortion. I see him very much as an equivalent to Michael in this (and Grian as Helen to an extent). Iā€™m putting Grian as the distortion as well because the events are just too perfect.
1. Grian goes into BigBā€™s underground hotel/corridors/confusing place
2. Grian goes and moves peopleā€™s doors under their noses, drawing the line from Lizzie ā€˜I know this doesnā€™t make sense to you, but this door was not here a second agoā€™
3. Grian goes and builds the most Spiral-esque staircase EVER
As I said, the events are just too perfect
But yes these are the ideas I (and Shrub) have so far! Feel free to add anything if you think of stuff (it would be awesome if someone who knows some of the other guys better than me headcanons what they are/do in this au)
Iā€™m currently drawing more art of distortion!BigB and Grian so expect that in a bit!

Me as an avatar of some of my favorite fears!!!
Would I actually be an avatar of these fears?
Vast: YES. A vast avatar through and through. Space? Space. It's so big and cool and should have been explored more as a domain of the vast!!
Web: eeehhh. I hate not being in control so maybe. But I don't think I'm manipulative enough...
Eye: probably! I'm certaintly curious enough, I'm also kinda paranoid??? But not as much as some eye avatars *jon*
Stranger: Nope! I'm not scared enough of it nor do I love it. I'm only here for Nikola šŸ™šŸ™šŸ™

assigning dsmp characters magnus archives entities <3 are these the entities they're avatars of or the entities they would get killed by? you decide <3 (def not all the characters just whichever pop into my head it's almost midnight gimme a break)
Tommy- Lonely or Vast whichever is more heartwrenchingly terrible in the moment. Lonely bc exile and Vast bc of the tower
Ranboo- Eye!!!!! silly haha reason: eyes of ender and heterochromia, ACTUAL reason: he just wants to know what's going on with the enderwalk man he wants to know and they've got the experiments they're gaining knowledge but at the cost of themself he's so Eye coded ouadfgiahgf (could also be Stranger bc he is a mystery even to himself and also they are half mystery creature)
Tubbo- Desolation. Nukes. making sure he and his loved ones stay safe by destroying literally anything that comes near them <3 also like the cold war vibes of snowchester and the constant overhanging threat of annihilation <3
Technoblade- Slaughter, i kinda feel like this needs no explanation
Phil- End, again no explanation needed that's literally his wife
Wilbur- End, Desolation, Slaughter, Spiral? idk take ur pick I think Spiral is especially fun but not exactly in character. End and Desolation are probably the most in character. Slaughter bc music symbolism
Dream- Web, this one also feels obvious. Could also be Stranger but that's just cuz that iconic smiley face feels kinda Stranger-y
Badboyhalo- CORRUPTION!!!!! ouughghg eggpire arc my beloved <3
Fundy- Spiral? mayhaps? anyone else remember his nightmares those were sick as fuck and like he could tell the future or something and that was passed down to him from Sally anyone remember that?
Sapnap- Desolation. He's a fire dude
George- Corruption. cuz of the mushrooms I think. Maybe Spiral cuz he couldn't tell if he was asleep or awake during that whole XD thing
Quackity- Flesh, he ate that heart that one time that was freaky also I'm still thinkin about the butcher arc sorry las nevadas fans. But also dude was so scared of being prey to someone else's whims and plans that he became the hunter so maybe he's the Hunt or the Web
Karl- Spiral bc of the forgetting <3 maybe there's another one that fits better but the aesthetic of Spiral fits him so well
Literally everyone in the Eggpire- Corruption!!! i can't remember all of em but Hannah and Antfrost were definitely there
Foolish- End. cuz he's a totem of undying and also he was like super afraid of dying
Sam- Buried. Put his ass in the prison lmao
Schlatt- Corruption. There's probably one that fits better but when you think about his declining health and also that it's a joke about him being a corrupt politician I think it works
Niki and Jack- Hunt because they were trying to kill Tommy lol there are probably better ones for both of them. Niki could be Lonely or Desolation and Jack could also be Desolation
Michael McChill- Eye. I didn't pay that close attention to his lore but. Didn't he try to make a record of the entire dmsp lore or try to understand it or something. C!McChill fans what was he doing
Eret- Hunt or Slaughter for the final control room but then she gets kinda Eye coded when she makes the museum. End would be sick as hell but I cannot think of a single basis in the story for this. Maybe Buried for the final control room thing too bc it was a small space but that feels like a stretch
i definitely missed a few characters in there so if anyone has ideas for them feel free to voice them. What did I learn from this? No one on the dsmp was afraid of the dark that's what I fucking learned not a single Dark avatar on there.

TMA *EGOS*
PLEASE EXPLAIN MORE
Okay I'm assuming that you're asking me to give what TMA Avatar each of the Egos would be which I'll go into detail here!!! With!!!! Some bonus Picrews!! If you have any further questions don't be afraid to reach out in the ask box xxx
Before I begin I do want to mention that these are just my own thoughts!!! I would absolutely love to hear what everyone thinks/if you have alternative ideas to suggest as well :DDD
(For starters I think all of the Egos have elements of The Lonely to them- they all feel isolated in their lives for whatever reason)
Chase Brody (The Eye) - I think Chase is so unbelievably Eye coded and he's VERY Archivist coded in my brain, giving off Season 4 Jonathan Sims if you get me. The Beholding is all about paranoia, feeling like your being watched and this insatiable need to know more- which Chase pretty much checks every box in my brain (especially after Anomaly Found). Chase does have elements of The Corruption and The Buried which I think would mostly just because of The Eyes effects of his life.
Marvin The Magnificent (The Desolation) - to me I've always gotten the impression that Marvin's magic reflects his mental wellbeing and he didn't gain it naturally- a younger Marvin to me has always read as a Carrie White or a Sydney Novak type character- someone with such intensely strong powers that its only a matter of time before he destroys something- i think the thing it destroys the most is Marvin himself though, its harmed everything around him and has probably left him isolated and alone. The Desolation isn't just fire it's the destruction of everything it doesn't care for death it just drives to squeeze the pain out of you. Which for me is exactly how I've always imagined Marvin, the fact that he doesn't want to hurt others would only feed into it more.
JackieBoy Man (The Vast) - Now with Jackie he's always seemed to be the hardest character to pinpoint for me personally. But at the end I thought The Vast was the only appropriate entity for him, he's an odd mix of Crew and Fairchild where he's constantly chasing down the thrill of open air, of falling into nothingness. He also to me seems like he'd be the one Ego who'd be the most aware of how insignificant their lives are in the grand scheme of the entirety of the universe (plus as a bonus his comic is the only one this far to reference the grand universe and the sheer scale of everything.
Jameson Jackson (The Web) - JJ is so interesting to me because to me he's both puppet and puppet master. He's a people pleaser and I would go as far to say that he takes it the point no one ever truly knows who he really is, like Martin Blackwood, he's all smiles and kind gestures but he treats everyone the same, it's only when you take a step back do you realise just how surface level his gestures are. I don't think he's a bad person however, I just think he pretends to care a lot more than he actually does. He's manipulated but he knows it, hes the quickest to spot the signs of manipulation because he's seen it and he's played with the same strings- that doesn't make him immune to manipulation and I think part of him is aware of just how caught up he is in the web himself.
Henrik Von Schneeplestien (The End/The Spiral) - Henrik was almost impossible for me to settle on because there's quite a few he could fall into (I could even make an argument he'd also belong in The Eye or Corruption) but I think his true calling is The End. I see him carry death unknowingly to the people around him, he spends so much time saving lives to counter act it somehow, he can't save everyone but if he can help people just as much as he accidentally kills others then maybe he can live with himself- it obviously takes a hold of him and he's eventually unable to keep operating in this way which is where The Spiral comes in, I think the constant death surrounding him will eventually break him and unknown to him and everyone around him- the signs for this were all clear as day.
Antisepticeye (The Stranger) - Anti is not human, anti has never been human and him trying to convince you that he is one is nothing short of uncanny. He's not had the life experiences to know how humans are supposed to move, his body consists of that which is important for a human to survive but none of it works right. He kills people and robs their lives and their faces and mocks you with them. He sends people into paranoia because they know that something is wrong but they just can't tell what. He is a mask of humanity worn by a thing that doesn't know how to be human.
BONUS: Robbie The Zombie (The Corruption) - Robbie was the easiest BC yk, zombie. But I would like to think that he didn't die and come back. His zombification was slow and it started when he was alive, watching and feeling his body begin the decomposition process while he was still very much alive and aware and feeling. It slowly but surely robbed him of not just his life but his identity and he slowly started to lose himself within the rot of The Corruption as he progressed.

assigning tma entities to tsams characters cause i gotta post something original for once (also, if you choose to reblog this, please do so without any tma tags okay ty)
Sun - The Lonely. no explanation needed. though he's more likely to become a victim rather than an avatar, he's VERY lonely-aligned
Old Moon / KC - The Hunt. idk why this fits, but it does- also KC said something about him preferring the thrill of the chase over the blood spilled, and the hunt is literally the thrill of the chase so
New Moon - The Eye. it fits. it just does-
Eclipse - The Eye. yes yes i know "eye again seriously???" but HEAR ME OUT. eclipse gives elias vibes in the sense that they both try to act like they're in control when in reality they're just as much of a pawn as anyone else
Lunar - The Vast. i haven't been keeping up with tsams all that much but i heard lunars got space magic so. vast it is!!
Bloodmoon - The Slaughter. 100% the slaughter no WAY they would be anything else- though they could also be hunt with the whole "feeding on blood" thing
The Creator / Nao - The Web. yeah no this douche would probably be the web i can't think of anything else- MAYBE corruption??? but thats a long stretch
i honestly have no clue for earth and solar flare. earth could be corruption???? and solar flare could be spiral but i'm only basing that off the one episode where a guy eats his computer so lmao
