I've been kinda thinking about character motivations, and reasons for decisions made in each playthrough all day, and I think the core of Iona's personal narrative is finally starting to expose itself to me, which is neat.
Like... while Arvid's arc is overall about him balancing the divine with the mundane, and learning to make decisions with his own needs in mind occasionally, Iona's is shaping up to be one of... the continual challenging of long-held beliefs, and picking through her own survival tactics like she's unpicking a big, painful knot in one's hair that's tugging at the skin. Her story is kind of looking like it's about finding the line between what's true, and what was merely said enough times to start sounding like the truth- about what even the liar was lied to, basically.
From the beginning, when she's outed as specifically not a by-choice magic user, but a magical being, one with living sorcery in her veins, to her vehemently anti-magic community their warmth turns instantly to cold steel (even running to her husband for help and comfort only to meet scorn, rejection, and pain), she has had to constantly challenge herself, and try to find just how much of her view of the world was grounded in common sense, and how much of it is just... common nonsense.
It kind of works out beautifully that the first people she breaks bread with in the game are a guarded and jumpy young woman who is 100% lying to her (yeah, turns out she's an ardent worshipper of a dark, forbidden goddess), and a handsome, if foppish, city-type fellow, who only suspends his bristling about roughing it long enough to lay on the charm extra thick and obvious (whoops, a vampire- someone she would have ordinarily believed to be a mindless monster at that point).
Over and over in the story, Iona seems to have to completely reevaluate all the things she thinks she knows. Everything, from her idea of what a monster is, to where the line between morality, justice, and ruthless self-interest lies, to what love is and looks like (is it a contract? a mutually beneficial transaction? something different and delicate and precious and entirely new?), is constantly being challenged, and since the factors doing the challenging seem immutable, it has to be her who does the changing.
In the beginning portions of act 2, she was a little... noncommittal, about the whole ascension thing. Sure, in act 1 she was fully in favor of upending Cazador's whole schtick (in a "cool plan my guy, godspeed, have fun with that, glad that's not my mess to clean up" kind of way), and this thing, while literally diabolical, it was easy enough to see that it'd at least get results. Like, maybe the ends really would justify the means like they so often have so far, and the "number of souls" sacrificed were no more than an abstract that he at least seemed excited about. But meeting Dalyria and Petras (and experiencing that spark of genuine fear of Astarion then), talking to the attacking spawn, that (on top of everything else learned, including the sentience and potential benevolence in mind flayers and all that) is yet another very sharp pivot in her mind that exposes the whole thing for the nakedly amoral action it would really be.
Between that night in the Elfsong, and when we'll finally go to Cazador, she'll be slowly piecing together her thoughts on how much power is it really okay for just one person to take, how much revenge is justified, and at what point does it turn to harmful excess, to evil for its own sake, and there is something... that's imo kind of beautiful about how "not my circus, not my kobolds" turns into "I want you to live a life you can be proud of".
(In my headcanon, after the "the world can be a wonderful, kind place, Astarion, if you find your place in it" line she says in that post-attack callout, there is just a tiny bit of an insert of an expansion: it's just him asking, with an exhale that could pass for amused were it not for the somber look in his eyes, "you really believe that, don't you?" and her responding, with just a hint of a desperate edge, as if uncertain herself, "I have to. Otherwise, what's the point? To all this?")
#if she had a personal quest it'd have to be one that can be completed at any point in the game#but depending on how long one lets her grow and change; the outcomes would be radically different#like if you go to the cult with her in act 1 it ends in a horrible; game-endingly difficult massacre of a village#the game clearly intends you to fail then and it's doable only technically; if you really WANT the bad ending#so you need to level and grind and come back much later#but by the time you're in act 3 and would decimate everything she has grown enough that there... need not even be any killing#is this anything#the exact same outcome -slaughtering all- could either gain her unshakable loyalty but cement her in a cold spiteful state#that may or may not bite the player in the ass later#or cause her to become hostile and/or permanently leave the party#that sounds like it'd be a pretty cool thing for a game like this to do#squirrel plays bg3#oc: iona raedir#i am. in so much pain today#need sleepies bye bye honk-shoooooo#i've been poking this wall of text for like an hour now i'm so foggy

Matchup for @miffythoughts
Hi there! BNHA Matchup, please? I’m a straight, 18↓ 5'3 Gemini ENFP girl who’s slightly chubby with tan skin, black wavy hair, and glasses. I usually wear whatever’s comfy but my dream style is casual cottagecore. I may come off as slightly haughty, but I’m generally a talkative and curious person who loves discussion. It’s also very easy for me to cry, either because of a movie or when I’m mad or overwhelmed. I’m not good with tangible gifts to show how much I love someone, so I show it through words or actions. I’m also a worrywart and it messes with my stomach often. Some of the things I’m passionate about include visual novels, singing, psychology, and just talking to others in general. I love rabbits, pastel colors, and pop/folk/acoustic music. In my friend group, I tend to be the more chatty and dreamy one. In relationships, two things I prize highly would be honesty and communication. My ideal date is stargazing, and I usually end up falling for people whom I deem worthy enough to be my “rock”. My love language is quality time followed closely by words of affirmation, and a big fear I have is of being alone. Ultimately, I’d want a life where I could be happy and surrounded by the people I love. Thank you so much!
Hi dear! My very first BNHA Matchup, I hope you will like it! I match you with...
OTP: Eijiro Kirishima
Almost a literal rock for you to lean on, Eijiro is your best match! This sweetheart is just as sociable and chatty as you are, so you don’t have to be afraid of being alone. He will take you on fun adventures, wonderful dates and all the things you could ever wish for.
Just like you, he really values communication and honesty. Even if it’s something minor you’re worrying about, he will notice it immediately and ask you what’s up. If it is something he can help you with, you can bet he’s already doing whatever he can to help before you’re even done talking.
Kiri is an absolute sucker for soft affection, being physcially close, holding hands, stealing the smallest of kisses. Once you express you need to actually hear from him as well, he will do his best to be super vocal about his feelings for you. Even when you cannot spend time together because of conflicting schedules or busy days, he will make sure to at least text you a good morning and good night, making sure you know he’s thinking about you. Kirishima is also a great comforter. Whenever he notices you’re getting emotional or overwhelmed, he will do what he can to make sure you’re feeling safe and he will hold you close as you cry it out. You never have to be ashamed for your emotions around him, he highly encourages just feeling all the things and letting it all out. He loves how your softer aethetic is in such contrast to his loud and ‘manly’ one. He often says you complete him wherever he’s lacking and in some way it’s true. You both motivate each other to be the best person you could possibly be and you are truly supportive of each other’s dreams.
Runner up: Mirio Togata
Honestly, it was a very hard choice between Kirishima and this runner up. After all, when it comes to positive attitude and relationship dynamics, these two guys are pretty similar. Much like Kirishima, Mirio will absolutely smother you in affection and will be your greatest fan. No lack of support, and no lack of boosts for your confidence, much like Eiji, you share a similar love language, filled with words and actions, although Mirio will also think to bring you little gifts throughout the days, even if it’s not necessarily a special occasion.
Why he is only the runner up? Honestly, because they were such a close match, I simply went with age difference as the final deciding factor. Mirio could be just as much of a match as Kirishima.
BrOTP: Kyoka Jirou
Your shared love for music is what initially sparks the friendship, and it’s one of the things you can talk about for forever. Jirou often likes to engage in healthy debates and discussions as well, finding new and interesting topics, sometimes bringing over snacks so you can just chat the day away.
Jirou is also very perceptive of your moods, knowing just the things to say and do whenever you get overwhelmed. She’s very much a stable presence, and is very good at de-escalating tension and lifting the mood to where you need it to be, but she’s just as much able to help you let it all out when that’s necessary.
Never a boring moment with Jirou as your best friend, because you’ll do all kinds of fun things outdoors, train together, go to concerts, etc. But at the same time she’s just as glad to have a fun day in with some of the rest of the class. Just to chill, she’s up for pretty much everything!

Welcome to the Family
So this is just a little one shot I wrote like a month ago but never posted. I wanted to write something about Bruce and Alfred and how they saw Halley and Jay’s relationship early on and I think it came out pretty cute :)
Also, do I picture my Batman as Batfleck? Not exactly. I wish I could’ve seen more than what we got, (not even going to talk about Justice League here). I like how Affleck looks because he looks a lot like the Batman Animated Bruce, WHICH is MY Batman. Kevin Conroy is my ideal Batman. Is voice is just perfect and that version of Batman is my all time favorite.
Also I love Jeremy Irons and hope we get more of him as Alfie.
Watchful Eyes
People didn’t call Batman a master detective for nothing. His track record alone for turning clues that at first and even second glance, looked like nothing into something attested to that fact. Batman didn’t just beat up bad guys in the dead of night or lock away crazed psychos day in and day out. Batman was hands down one of the sharpest minds out there; Bruce Wayne, in Alfred’s opinion, was on the other hand was another story entirely. Granted, Bruce Wayne and Batman were technically one in the same, Alfred would argue. Alfred Pennyworth knew Bruce had a one of the greatest minds but god willing, he could be so oblivious that the butler would sometimes question where he went wrong when raising him.
Alfred wasn’t surprised that he had picked up on it first, Bruce being so consumed with his nightlife and keeping up the image and lie that was the one the public thought he had, along with running a billion dollar company, the poor man would probably forget how to properly dress himself in the morning if Alfred hadn’t already laid his clothes out for him. So when Alfred started noticing the two youngest of the household sneaking around and spending the night locked up in either’s room, it came to no surprise to him that when he mentioned it to Bruce that the man looked up to him clueless.
Alfred tried to give him some sort of break for being so late on the pickup though. Jason wasn’t like Dick in the slightest. The former Boy Wonder had been so open about his emotions and life, where it was a miracle if Alfred got an answer to a simple question, such as, how was school today? Alfred still remembered when Dick had come rushing out of school one day after asking this nice girl in his class out on a date. He remembered the boy barely able to stop gushing about while he served him and Bruce dinner that night.
That had also been another factor that caused Alfred not to be surprised. Bruce busied himself a lot more than he did back then. Alfred often found himself chastising him over that fact, not excusing such behavior, but understanding why. Alfred hated nagging but he made sure it was known to him that he wasn’t just Jason’s and now Halley’s mentor, but their father figure and he should start acting as such. He made it mandatory recently that Bruce at least show up to three dinners a week.
He was pleased when Bruce had started taking the initiative to spend more time with them. Bruce began showing more of an interest in their lives, taking part in Jason’s love of film and having occasional movie nights with him. He also took Jason to his first baseball game, overhearing how the boy had always wanted to go. He also made it known how proud he was that Halley had decided to take part in her school’s journalism club after doing well in the class. There had been more than a handful of times where Alfred caught him reading one of her articles that were in the school paper. But even with taking more care in their lives, Bruce Wayne still hadn’t picked up on what had been so clear for the past couple of months.
“Together?” Bruce muttered, staring at the couple in question that stood off on the training mat, sparring.
“Yes, Master Bruce, together; as in a couple.” Alfred’s dry voice repeated, still quiet enough so the two couldn’t hear him but loud enough for Bruce to hear him clearly. “Like you and Miss Kyle, but more consistent and not as turbulent.” He compared, never failing to show up his own brand of humor.
Bruce slowly raised his head to look up at the man, clearly not amused by his jab but not daring to defend himself; his statement was true after all. Trying not to think of his own mess of relationships, he turned his attention back to the pair, the detective in him now getting to work.
It’d been nearly a year since Halley had officially joined the family and the change she brought to the manor had been apparent to him. After everything settled, getting back to their normal, he did note a shift in his ward. He wasn’t as aggressive, he listened more and didn’t go out of his way to test Bruce. He still had his moments, but Bruce knew he was still learning and like how Bruce was still getting over his own childhood, so was Jason. But as he already observed, he was getting better.
Even Halley was getting better, Bruce noted. She never had the issue’s Jason had, molding into the nightlife of a Gotham vigilante quite seamlessly. Bruce meant more so that she started acting more like a normal teenager. She began hanging out with a group of friends, Jason of course joining her eventually. The change of her wardrobe was noticeable as well, Bruce seeing her no longer trying to drown herself in baggy sweaters.
Bruce knew the changes in them were mostly influenced by the other but he didn’t think it was because of some secret relationship. He just thought it was because of having someone the same age, with the same life experiences; something like that was really rare to find and of course having someone like that would affect the way you act. He felt himself falling back into the chair, as he thought, now picking up on the fight laid out before him.
He wouldn’t even call it a fight anymore.
Between Jason’s lingering touches after deflecting a blow and Halley’s light jabs and prodding, Bruce deduced that they weren’t even seriously trying to train; they were playing, just like how Batman and Catwoman did. Like always, Alfred was right and Bruce could only feel himself ponder even more as Halley easily flipped Jason over her shoulder, giggling as he hit the mat with a grunt and a pout.
Why hadn’t they felt like they couldn’t talk to him about it? He wasn’t mad, maybe a little concerned, not wanting anything to affect them in the field but he wouldn’t not allow it. He would of course set restrictions, knowing that they were still in fact teenagers who lived in very close proximities of each other and just knowing how Dick had been with girls around their age, he just wanted to make sure they were being smart.
“Why are you just now bringing this to my attention, Alfred?” Bruce looked back up at him.
“I was giving time for them to come to us themselves or for you to at least notice. I may be a patient man but there are far too many secrets under this roof.” The older man shrugged his shoulders, giving Bruce a look.
Taking another look at them, Bruce hummed in agreement. It never did hurt to be too cautious, as Alfred hinted. But it also never hurt to put a little trust in people as well and coming from Bruce, that meant a lot. He wasn’t one to easily trust and was always over analyzing people’s motives and making contingency plan after contingency plan. He felt his mind instantly going into the motion of making one for this exact situation but seeing the smile that Jason gave Halley as he was the one to flip her to the ground made him stop all thought.
They didn’t trust him enough to talk to him about this and Bruce couldn’t help but feel dejected. In their line of work they needed trust, they’d be left in the battle blinded if they couldn’t trust each other. And the fact that they didn’t trust him didn’t sit all that well in his stomach. Would he be watchful? Yes. Would he still plan in the case of something between them goes wrong? Yes. But would he wait until they came to him when they felt ready? Of course, because not only was he Batman, he was also Bruce Wayne and Bruce Wayne cared about his kids.

Supernatural season 5 review (part 2)
Link to part 1:
Irene and I had finished season 5 and, as I already imagined, I loved it. I'm not quite sure if I like it more than the previous one, I think they're kind of in the same level of greatness.
It starts with Lucifer rising again and Sam and Dean being miraculously saved. They immediately meet Chuck to know what happened with the angels and the prophet tells them Castiel has been killed by them. With Lucifer out of the cage Zacharia (who fortunately gets killed at the end by the older Winchester) wants Dean to be Michael's vessel, since he's the only one who can beat the devil: the only problem is that Dean has to say "yes" to Michael. He obviously doesn't want to, so the angels trying to convince him will be a recurrent thing throughout the season. Dean tries to not change his opinion, because becoming Micheal's vessel would mean the two archangels would fight and with their power they would destroy half the planet, but the more time passes the more Dean's hopes vanish, and towards the end he decides to accept Zacharia's proposal. At the last moment, however, to Sam, Castiel and Bobby's relief and delight, he opposes it and Adam, brought back to life only to replace his brother, accepts to be Michael's vessel. This whole mess will eventually end with Lucifer (in Sam's vessel) back in the cage, along with Michael (in Adam's), Castiel miraculously brought back (again, after returning at the beginning of the season) and a desperate Dean trying to keep living a life with Lisa and Ben after losing his brother and promising him to try a new life without hunts.
The main focus of the season is obviously trying to defeat Lucifer, who we meet in the first episode. It is already an interesting character, because he feels misunderstood by God and believes he didn't deserve what he got from his father. It is almost impossible not to empathise at least a little bit with him. He also hides his evil side pretty well at first, making him seem almost like the actual good guy of the situation and the victim of a cruel God. I like the fact that he shows up to the people he wants to convince as their loved one (like he did with Nick when he showed as his wife). He tries to convince Sam to be his vessel (because he's actually the only one who would truly contain him) showing up as Jessica. Sam obviously doesn't want to help Lucifer with the Apocalypse, although both Sam and us don't even really know what his true intentions are. We quickly learn that he obviously, as he hated humanity before, still does it now, so his plan is actually mostly a revenge. He really seems like the final big bad guy, probably because he was supposed to be, and because every other villain ultimately leads to him. I believe he is my favourite one: he is a way more rounded character than the others, having his own motivations (that go beyond wanting to do bad and win over the others). As much as he's wrong for doing what he's doing, at least he got his reasons. He is the first angel who has rebelled against God and he was punished for it, but he's not the only one who did it. At the end of the last season we saw Castiel, persuaded by Dean, rebelling against the angels and their plan to bring Lucifer back. So what makes the difference between them? I think it is the reasons and the intentions behind their actions: Lucifer rebelled because he hated humans and now wants to end them, Castiel rebelled because he loves humanity and wants to defend it. So there's no surprise when Castiel refuses to join Lucifer when he tries to get his brother to come to the dark side in episode 05x10.
Lucifer is not the only new villain, we also meet two demons with opposite purposes: Meg and Crowley. Meg isn't actually new, as we know her since season one, but she has a new body. Her character doesn't change much in season five, she's still a loyal servant, in this case to Lucifer, but we'll see what I will think about her in the next seasons, as I know, as much as I can remember, she will improve. Crowley on the other hand is a lone wolf and wants Lucifer dead as much as the two protagonists want him. I have loved Crowley since the first episode I saw him (05x10) for several reasons. I adore his personality: he's funny and sassy and the perfect villain who's not really a villain (because at the end of the day neither Dean or Sam want him dead, and neither he wants them to be dead as well). I like the fact that he just minds his own business: he doesn't want to start apocalypses or whatsoever, he just wants to keep living, and he knows being against Lucifer is an immediate suicide for a demon, so he helps the Winchesters to kill him. He gives them the Colt at first, believing they could kill him with that, and so they attempt to, ending up with Jo and Ellen dead and the certainty that the Colt couldn't kill the devil. On a side note, I liked seeing Jo and Ellen back, but I hated watching them dying, as much as I loved the episode thanks to its intensity and melancholy (especially in the scenes between Jo and Ellen and between Jo and Dean, although I'm not totally convinced that he should have kissed her, even if I think he did it mainly to make her understand how much he cared about her, rather than for romantic love). I don't appreciate Supernatural not having a female main character who stays alongside the boys for more than a few seasons. I don't expect a woman to become a main character like Castiel but it would have been nice to see a woman appear at least as much as Bobby. This side of Supernatural shows how far behind it is in some ways and that it needed to improve on many aspects (such as veiled, but not too much, misogyny). Returning to Crowley, the demon proves to be essential as thanks to him Sam and Dean understand how to stop Lucifer: not killing him but sending him back where he came from. To do this they need to open a portal that leads Lucifer into his cage, and the portal can only be opened by the rings of the four knights of the apocalypse. They are characters brought to earth, thanks to Lucifer, that Sam and Dean have the pleasure of meeting (and defeating most of the time). The most interesting character is certainly Death, with whom Dean talks (episode 05x21) and who has no intention of fighting the brothers, indeed he voluntarily gives them his ring. The only problem left is to find Lucifer and to push him into the cage. Sam, who has been thinking for days that he has to accept Lucifer's request in order to try to jump into the portal, manages to convince Dean, who obviously would never want Sam to be locked in Lucifer's cage with the devil himself inside him.
Sam and Dean, mainly because of everything that happened last season, have to try to rebuild their now inevitably changed relationship (whose antagonism is exasperated in the parallelism of the two protagonists with the archangels Lucifer, the rebellious son, and Michael, the devoted son). Dean, as much as he doesn't want to, can't keep pretending everything's okay between them and thinks it's best to take different paths. The two brothers remain divided until Dean realizes they can win against the angels and Lucifer only if they are together. From then on their relationship strengthens more and more, until Dean, I think for the first time, decides to completely trust Sam, reject Zacharia's proposal and find another way to defeat Lucifer (05x18). The final step forward is surely Dean accepting Sam's idea of becoming Lucifer's vessel, while knowing what it entails. The difference in their relationship between the end of this season and last season lies in several factors: Sam opens up to Dean and tries to be as honest as possible, while Dean accepts that his brother is now grown up and must make his choices, even if these involve his sacrifice to save humanity. Their relationship ends with one last touching scene in which Dean manages to reach Sam, despite being controlled by Lucifer, and give him enough strength to jump into the portal that will lead him to the cage. I think this season potrais their relationship in a way never seen before, with a rollercoaster of emotions that shows how much they care about each other and how much they have grown in the recent years.
There's another relationship that I'd like to talk about and that I think has evolved over the course of the season, Dean and Castiel's. The two certainly make giant strides towards the end of season four, when Castiel decides to rebel and side with Dean, but they are not yet in the best of relationships. Dean finally seems to trust Castiel, but is still not entirely comfortable with him and his personality ("Cas, we've talked about the personal space", 05x03), while Castiel, after being brought back to life, is convinced, in the early episodes of the season, that he can find God, which Dean is very skeptical of. The thing that may come as a surprise, however, is that Dean supports Castiel and comforts him when the angel seems to have lost hope. I don't think it's really shocking, considering Dean sees himself in Castiel, who seems to be just a confused son looking for an absent father, which Dean is by now an expert of (and the funny thing is that in the emotional episode 05x13, where Sam and Dean go back in time and meet their parents, John, once he knows the lives of the two brothers, he wonders how a father can behave that way with their children, obviously not being aware of the hard truth). When, in episode 05x16, in which Dean and Sam die and go to heaven (which I think is quite original, divided into personal heavens formed by memories of each of the dead people), they discover that God is somewhere, but that he has no intention of intervening in any way, giving relatively little importance to humanity and angels, Castiel is completely destroyed by the news and copes getting drunk (another parallelism with Dean I would say) and in this episode (05x17), confident they can't get help from God, Dean calls the formed trio "team free will" (emphasizing the fact that they are now free to make their own choices). I feel like Dean and Cas start to bond especially when Dean is alone (so in episode 05x03) and he understands Castiel's value in episode 05x04, when Zacharia sends him to a future where he has not accepted to be Michael's vessel, Sam is Lucifer vessel and the world is infected by the Croatoan virus. Dean meets his future self (a way worse and more desperate version of him) who trusts past Dean after he tells his future self an anecdote (that he never revealed to anyone) about wearing pink panties and liking it. I'll admit I completely forgot about that particular (probably because I was 15 when I first watched it and this information seemed extremely irrelevant to me) and I'm still amazed that such a scene really exists. Anyway Dean realizes that, despite everything that has been going on and the way he's become, Castiel has never abandoned him. He also understands, noticing how much the future Castiel has changed and how hopeless he gets, he should appreciate his Castiel more (and that is something Castiel will eventually tell him directly too in episode 05x18, in which after Dean decides to agree to Michael Castiel beats him up telling him he rebelled for him and so he shouldn't repay him like that).
Chuck compares in episode too, showing he's still on Dean's side as well. I honestly quite like him in this season: he's awkward, confused and out of place most of the time, but I think that's what makes it likeable, at least for me. We see more of him in episode 05x09, where there's a Supernatural convention and Sam and Dean have to deal with both their fans (without them knowing who they really are) and a case, and are forced to work with a couple of fans who fortunately save everyone. At the end of the episode Dean discovers that the two fans, both male, are a real couple (making it the first homosexual couple in the series). I don't quite know how to interpret this moment (which writers probably didn't even give too much thought to), but the fact that in the next scene we see Dean thinking next to the car with a little smile makes me believe that that the step forward to acceptance was not only made by the series.
There's another character who's not totally new but seems to be at the same time: Gabriel. We have known him since season two by the name of "Trickster", but thanks to Castiel we find out, along with the brothers, that he was an archangel all along (who gave us some of the funniest episodes, and especially Dean thirsting over Dr. Sexy in episode 05x08). They ask him to join their side, but quickly understand he doesn't want to be on anyone's side. He fortunately changes his mind on episode 05x19 and sides with Sam and Dean, only to be killed by Lucifer at the end of the episode. Gabriel is my favourite angel besides Castiel, for obvious reasons, so I was very happy he decided to risk it all and go against his brother to be on the Winchesters' squad.
To conclude, as much as I think there are some parts of the season they could have done better (for example the scene with Lucifer and Michael in the last episode), I believe this is one of the best seasons of the show, so we'll see if after rewatching the other ten seasons I will have the same opinion.

Comment that I’m proud from youtube on Akatsuki no Yona Chapter 201 part 1
I think the thing thats gets in the way of your idea that Hak is basically untouchable or should be because if he gets hurt the people who love him will go batshit is that yona loves her kingdom as well. I definitely believe Hak is one of the top priorities(after all the whole reason the dragons were gathered by yona was to make sure hak doesn't die). Its definitely true that if they want to they could mess EVERYONE up and take over the castle if Hak is killed....but Kouka ISN'T in a completely stable position right now even before the murder pin the blame on yona game the new country is playing. If they want to stay safe from invaders they need to make sure kouka isn't temping to be attacked by other countries. its been shown multiple times that the dragons aren't invincible. they can't always be vigilant and yona and the dragons and hak have been hurt and kidnapped on multiple occasions.
Yona's choice to take the deal with kyek-sook to enter the castle so yoon could learn more medicine nd she and the dragons could be protected makes sense. If yona refused she definitely knew kyk-sook would end more people to kill them. she witnessed a crazed priest convince other countries to aim for her and the dragons. everytime they had thought they were safe something went wrong. yona got kidnapped and sent to the drug workshop before. had been sword slashed. they had to sneak around tae-jun's place despite his permission and zeno was shot by a arrow. yona had been kidnapped and if the country had gotten the other two dragons in that first run using yona as a hostage there was no telling how many of their own country men thy would have ben forced to kill. and yona has seen the level of obsession or interest in the dragons grow in real time and how it can be a nice flattering hopeful thing...but can easily become twisted or obsessive. everyone was even injured on some level before they entered the castle. for long run safety it makes sense to choose to go along wth kyk-sook so at the very least if they DO choose to leave again the hak kidnapped her and killed her dad rumour would go away. the info of the dragons already coming out but by going with kyk-sooky it was a way to control how the dragons are seen as well as hak.
though you also have a point that whether yona was unsettled or not she let kyk-sook have the advantage over her since she came to the castle and if she had pushed more things could have changed earlier. even if she knew if they left they would still be in guaranteed danger so felt they could at least try to make things work t the palace. and she understood why they wouldn't let hak in the palace near soo-won. it was annoying because we could see that if yona pushed more things maybe could have changed earlier...but she was also made aware recently that the dragons andher aren't invicable and one of her mentalities is to finally start understanding soo-won properly. even if another point was so yoon could get more education and books we have seen hak and everyone be aware there are guards watching hak since he entered the area.
but of course like stated here...kyk-sook seemed to keep looking for a excuse to kill Hak which was ALWAYS a dumb move because it would trigger yona and the dragons...but also the windtribe to turn against soo-won. like it makes sense to have a guard in case hak tried to attack the king but we know supposedly tha kyk-sook was trying to provoke hak with the disrespect of putting her in the queens seat which others would assume was a engagement type of thing and had people set up to kill him. and we know kyk-sook didn't prepare enough to deal with the dragons. and separating yona from the dragons and refusing to let them meet was ALWAYS going to be suspicious as fuck and caused them to want to find answers.
but also confusing because....if killing Hak was always a dumb move which had been mentioned by SOO-WON even back when they saved lily. and one of the majour reasons that kyk-sook decided on this plan to bring yona and the dragons into the fold was because he was so impressed with Hak on the battlefield yet we haven't seen Kyk-sook try to bring Hak involved with the army at all uptil now despite that having been part of his motivation. how much of a dumb move? if hak is killed it would certainly trigger retaliation from the dagons and the windtribe.....however its also known kouka is still recovering from Il's rule and Yona is not ready tolead a army properly or knows enough about the politics so it would lead to kouka's citizens being endangered as well which ky-sook knows yona wouldn't want as yona and the dragons have been protecting the citizens this whole time. kyk-sook has already seen yona willing to put aside the murder of her dad for the greater good of the kingdom. so I wonder if its a game of chicken.
kyk-sook is interesting because we know he IS smart and can be cold and calculative when it comes to things from the beginning.....but since the flashback I've been starting to realize one of his flaws is he can be overly emotional whenit comes to soo-won as well. likehow he had wanted to kill yona on the spot when he came across her during the potential war arc when she was trying to get soo-won to agree to a meeting with the princesses and realized yona had a scary amount of connections. I think he was really rattled finding out that dragons with SUPERPOWERS exist. and he is such a soo-won stan that Hak properly using that soo-won strategy during the war rattled him a bit. we know he was smart enough to know that letting yona and friends continue to roam free could cause issues because yona and dragons could be kidnapped by other countries again....but also the longer yona is wandering around the more followers and people who admire her pop up which could cause more issues when people start questioning WHY the princess is wandering around instead of at the palace and realize its because soo-won killed king il. so bringing her in could put those rumours to rest. smart move.
but reckless move was him trying to test the dragons powers and assume the dragons would easily fall in line and wanting to provoke hak so they could take out hak/get rid of the risk even though he had realized the value hak has.
we also know they didn't kill hak on the spot in public and soo-won's bodyguard had apparently been watching and let hak get near soo-won. and kyk-sook has been so on edge since finding out about the disease which he aparently hadn't known about at all that he almost considered Yona for a back up position even though WE know she was bluffing with a three day cram session.
from his reaction its possible he really was planning on Hak being killed for finding out as he looked really surprised to see Yona there with the medic(which by the way was my favorite detail because we know the medic, and kyk-sook were around soo-won since they were young. kyk-sook is firmly team soo-won but there are extra layers because our medic hates having been a unwitting spy which could have led to king il's death. and I think it was implied that yon-hi sent the secret message to king il through the medic. and why kyk-sook was still surprised by the 'betrayal' of the medic telling Yona. Hak's word about how he wasn;t killed yet.....it shows that they WEREN'T ordered by soo-won to kill Hak as soon as he got close to the king. or they LET Hak get close to the king to test how bad Soo-won really was. its possibly they let Hak through to try to trap him into this situation to send him to the frontlines.....but then again hak had already agreed to be a soldier on his own and kyk-sook DOESN'T understand Hak all that well(which is kindof ironic because Hak follows and respects Yona like kyk-sook respects Soo-won...or yu-hon really.
Its possible they were trying to figure out how much Hak really figured out or to kill him in private. make him....disappear~ without anyone knowing what they did to him. After all kyk-sook did seem shocked by how much Hak had figured out. and he was clearly projecting on Hak a lot because WE know Hak is clearly not happy about soo-won being sick....but kyk-sook's understanding of soo-won and hak's relationship is still elementary so kyk-sook assumed hak would be happy about it and didn't seem to plan for Yona to appear.
but then again this IS the guy who helped plan a cou and Hak was one of his motivational factors for making this deal to get yona and the dragons in the palace and its been weird he seemed fine with potentially tricking or getting hak o die at other points since yona entered the palace instead of finding a logical route to get the man to be a proper soldier for the country. like its possible its ego. kykyk-sook thinking anyone who doesn't sta loyal to soo-won is trash or dumb if they aren't going to fall in line. after all even joo-doh was trying to lecture hak about loyalty and wanted lip service when honestly hak has been the only one who has never broken any type of vow at this point...even if we know why the others were loyal to soo-won over king il. we have definitely been finding out kyk-sook is more emotionally driven that we had thought and he does over look very obvious character issues in himself like when he didn't stop driving his horse forward and almost hurt a little kid which had lilly and others looking down on the advisor and seemed to think he might reflex badly on soo-won. kyk-sook did try to have them not listen to Yona' words to get a real talk between soo=won and kourien because kyk-sook didn't like Yona having any type of upper hand and was alarmed and how they had walked into yona's plans so easily.
I can't help but wonder if Hak KNEW they wouldn'tb able to instantly kill him and that's why he risked going to check on yona and soo-won to get information despite knowing if soo-won WAS sick and hak founded out about it...it could cause problems.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s DAKEN AKIHIRO/DAKEN, a VILLAIN from MARVEL! HE is SEVENTY THREE years old and look an awful lot like IAN ANTHONY DALE. I hear that they work as a MENACE TO LOGAN’S LIFE. Rumor has it they were AGAINST the Accords and ARE NOT registered under the new laws. I wonder what they’ll find with their new beginning! (luna, she/her, 27, aest)
This is so long i’m so sorry
KEY TO KNOW - THIS DAKEN IS FROM ANOTHER UNIVERSE
THIS UNIVERSE’S DAKEN ;;
(For anyone who has read What If? Wolverine: Father you will know this story - if not, read on)
The boy had the same origin - his mother was assassinated in an attempt to get to Logan. The key difference here: when Logan discovered Itsu’s body, he heard the baby’s heartbeat and was able to save him
Logan took the baby to a monastery in Japan to raise him in hopes that the discipline would raise him to be a better man
He named the baby John
John grew up and learned the ways of the monks at the monastery, but his nature - Logan’s nature - couldn’t be denied. He grew more violent, more angry, more disgruntled and unsettled as he got older
One day when he was around 12, Logan left for a few days to handle a few things. While he was gone, Sabertooth picked up on John’s scent, recognising it as being that of Logan and wanting to track him down. After killing a girl John had feelings for he threatened John’s life, holding him over the edge of a cliff while telling him the truth about his father
The emotion, anger, and fear in the moment kick started John’s mutation and his bone claws came out, stabbing straight into Sabertooth’s neck - of course his healing factor made this irrelevant, and he threw John off a cliff to punish Logan, and to test if he had the same healing factor as the rest of the family
John healed from the fall and returned to the monastery, and in his anger and rage he killed all the monks to leave Logan a message, before disappearing
He went to Tokyo and, as a result of his skill and instincts, he joined the Yakuza, quickly moving up the ranks, renaming himself Daken - meaning mongrel
By the time he reached the top he wanted more, wanted control of everything, and killed the head of the Yakuza, taking over himself at 22 years old
Then, Logan found him. They fought, Daken with his claws, Logan with his Muramasa blade, and Logan won. As a result of the blade used he couldn’t heal, and Logan was left to watch his son die.
Logan doesn’t remember any of this - because he’s lost his memories of his past he has no idea this happened. As a result, unless your character was alive and around in Japan from like 1960-1968 when he would’ve been in the Yakuza, they won’t know him either.
I am 100% up for characters feeling some kind of like multiverse weird vibe of maybe kind of knowing but not really knowing who this guy is!
THIS DAKEN’S HISTORY ;;
daken has a very tragic life i hope you’re ready. this is all taken from 616 Daken - unless your character is from that universe too, anyone mentioned here is from another verse!
Daken is the son of Logan and Itsu - a woman Logan fell in love with when he lived in Japan
Unfortunately that happy life he was hoping for was never meant to be - Itsu was heavily pregnant when she was killed, shot by the Winter Soldier in an attempt to draw Logan out
Logan returned to find her dead and, upon not being able to hear any heartbeats, assumed his baby was dead along with the woman he loved
Romulus appeared when Logan had left and removed the baby from Itsu’s womb - the baby had inherited Logan’s regenerative healing and had somehow survived the ordeal
Romulus left the baby with a wealthy Japanese couple who believed at the time that they could not conceive, and were happy to raise him as their own
Unfortunately his heritage was clear and, despite being given the name Akihiro by his adoptive parents, many in their village would use the slur “Daken”, meaning bastard dog
With so many treating him so poorly because of his heritage he grew up with a cold nature towards all but his father.
Unbeknownst to him at this point in his life, his pheromone control was beginning to kick in and was well outside of his control, largely focused on his mother and making her feel negatively towards him. With no idea what was causing it, Daken assumed his mother didn’t love him - something that only escalated when they were able to conceive, and Daken overheard her telling his father that she didn’t love Daken, and that they would soon be having their own child
When the baby was born Daken, wildly jealous, killed the baby and confronted his mother. His father was furious and disowned him, and his mother tried to kill him with a bayonet - this kicked off the rest of his mutant abilities and while trying to wave her away his bone claws came out and he killed her by accident
Unable to cope with the death of his wife and child, and unable to kill Daken, his adoptive father killed himself, leaving Daken alone
It was then that Romulus appeared and took him to the training camp in Canada Logan had been at decades earlier, to be cruelly trained by Silas Burr
He trained there for two years before being egged on by Romulus to attempt to kill his teacher, and in the process began learning to control his pheromone control
At this point Romulus began feeding Daken lies, telling him that Logan killed his mother and abandoned him, and as a result Daken grew with a need for vengeance on his father, wanting nothing more than to kill Logan for what he’d supposedly done to Itsu
He grew up adopting the nickname he’d hated as a child - Daken, over Akihiro - and began moving into a life of crime, stealing and murdering and doing his best to take over whatever criminal underworld he could
When he was given a tip as to where his father could be found he confronted him, resulting in a bloody fight where it was obvious Daken’s fighting abilities and prowess was very similar to Logan’s
The fight was interrupted by a hell of a lot of horrible stuff including more fighting and torture
He was later confronted by Logan and shot in the head by a carbonadium bullet - ironically by the Winter Soldier - to temporarily disable his healing factor so Logan could speak with him and tell him the truth
Lots more awful stuff happened in the mean time, Daken lost his memories for a bit and then got them back with some trauma added
Eventually he was recruited to join Norman Osborn’s Dark Avengers and agreed to join in hopes that he could lure out Cyclops and gain the Muramasa blade he had
He worked with the team for a time but he was never really loyal to Norman, always operating with ulterior motives
During this time he also made friends with Johnny Storm - by shooting him in the leg with an arrow in an attempt to frame Bullseye and lure the F4 in to work with him. He helped them break into Avengers Tower to steal info about Norman’s less than savoury ways but the plan failed thanks to Bullseye - evidence of Daken’s true nature was leaked online instead
Norman tried to push to improve Daken’s image which failed miserably, and when the Dark Avengers were later captured and arrested during the Siege of Asgard, he was the only one who escaped
Further fights with Logan ensued over time, not to mention he returned to his life of crime and working alone
He faked his death at some point and appeared in the F4 tower to ask Reed for help - his healing factor was having issues and he needed their help to fashion a claw-like weapon for himself before going off to work more in the criminal underworld
During this stint he met Laura who he thought of as nothing more than a clone of the man he’s hated his whole life - though they did end up working together
He then shifted to LA to try and take over the criminal underworld there, only to fail thanks to the effects of a drug called Heat which disabled his healing factor again, and LA ended disasterously
He then set his sights on Logan again, heading for NYC and planting bombs in Avengers Tower, the F4 tower, and the Jean Grey School before finding Logan and asking him to forgive him before blowing himself up. His goal had been to leave Logan with nothing.
Eventually he returned to life and formed a new Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, targeting Logan via Evan, wanting to turn him into Apocalypse. The ensuing mess resulted in Daken’s death at his father’s hands
He was brought back again by the Apocalypse twins as one of the Horsemen of Death
When Logan died he struggled to come to terms with the loss and how to deal with it, not having gotten his own revenge and struggling to reconcile the feelings of loss for a man he’d hated for so many decades. During this time he and Laura got closer, eventually developing more of a familiar relationship of a brother and sister
His life has swing between questionably noble for selfish reasons, and downright selfish and criminal depending on what suited him. He’s also died a couple more times, and has lost his left arm twice
Good to know/TLDR ;;
Daken absolutely hates Logan, believing that he was responsible for Itsu’s death and Daken’s horrific life full of torture and misery
Even so he has a propensity for the negative - his natural instincts are to be selfish and self preserving, something he’ll only ever ignore for a few select people like Laura and Gabby and Johnny
For someone who’s so selfish and will usually attempt to go for self-preservation, he’s really not good at being kind to himself. A life of torture and misery and confusion has made it hard to really bother taking care of himself
His healing factor seems to be linked to his mental and emotional state - his unsettled nature when Logan was killed made it hard for him to heal, especially to regenerate his arm when lost both times. Meditation to come to terms with his emotional state helped him recover
As much as he has a propensity for going back to criminal behaviour, he has expressed a desire to try and aim for better - unfortunately a life that’s been lived largely alone sees him return to more harmful and negative ways and leads back to a criminal life, or he’s pulled that way by his need for vengeance against Logan
He is very intelligent and strategically minded
Most recently Daken died again, but was only accompanied by Sabertooth and lady Deathstrike so there was no way for anyone to know what happened to him. when he was revived he was somehow brought back in this universe
Daken has the capacity to be good. He wants to, and has wanted to at numerous times in his life. At the very least he’s wanted to be better - but being in a universe where all anyone’s known him as is a bad guy, a violent man who does nothing but crime and murder and wreak havoc. Being in a whole new universe where no one knows him, what he is, what he’s done, definitely offers and opportunity to start with a completely clean slate, but Daken finds it difficult to ignore his natural instinct for bloodlust and violence so there’s a chance for him to be influenced either way!
Main Powers/Abilities ;;
Regenerative healing - the same as all other Wolverines, he has the ability to heal from injuries and loss of limbs
Superhuman factors - strength, speed, stamina, durability, agility, senses, and reflexes
Longevity
Weather adaption
Retractable bone claws - two from his knuckles and one from his wrist, pure bone rather than adamantium
Pheromone control - Daken has the ability to control people’s pheromones and emotional reactions as a result. He has demonstrated the ability to manipulate his pheromones for the purpose of suppressing his own scent to such a degree that even Wolverine's senses are unable to detect him. He can also use his pheromones to manipulate the emotional state and sensory perceptions of other beings. He has been known to use this power to instil intense fear, happiness, depression, sexual arousal, and a false sense of security to other beings. This allows him to seemingly appear where enemies can't see him, enabling him to inflect damage before an opponent realises it.

Riverdale: Chapter Seventy Three: The Locked Room
Let’s see what happens when they reveal that Jughead is alive and confront Stonewall prep.
It’s great to hear Jughead narrate the show because it was weird last episode with him not doing it. While Jughead is “dead” Betty and Archie are continuing the charade that they are together. Everyone is still dealing with the loss of Jugehead. We do learn that Jellybean overhead Betty talking with Charles so she knew Jughead was alive. FP was told before they did the search party. We all know how everyone else knew. Betty gets Jughead from the Bunker because is time to go after Stonewall prep kids but also because they found a mysterious person. My first thought is Judhead’s grandfather since we saw him earlier in the season. Unless Mr. Chipping didn’t really die otherwise it would have to be someone we forgot about.
Betty and Jughead interrupt a the literary society’s meeting. Many of them were shocked to see Jughead’s alive but of course Donna was happy to see that she was right that he was alive. Betty locks the door starting the whole tale of what happened. They start way back with the DuPont stealing the Baxter Brother’s from Jughead grandfather because that is the real cause of everything. We all know that Moose was brought to the school by Mr. Chipping and after Halloween Mr. Chipping did everything to get Mouse to leave the school. It seems that every year a new ghostwriter was picked for the Baxter Brother’s series is the same year a student went missing and thus the Stonewall 4. It seems the whole reason for inviting Moose to the school was for him to be killed. Mr. Chipping couldn’t do it so he got Moose out and then killed himself. Basically to win the Baxter Brother’s contract basically the person has to pull off the perfect murder. Which is how we know that everyone in Quill and Skull had a hand in Jughead’s “murder” because they all helped rewrite his novel. Donna is claiming that Jonathan is not there became of a food poisoning. Yea, the kind that get you killed.
We also learn how they gave Jughead CPR to save his life and how Charles helped them by bringing an FBI med vehicle for Jughead. Now we know when Charles was officially brought in. DuPont considers this to be a great story but it can’t be proven. They went to all the past ghostwritters of the Baxter Brother’s and they all lawyered up when confronted. DePont claims he never told anyone to kill their fellow students and he never killed any of those people so he cannot be convicted of their murders. Let’s be honest he’s a just a different kind of serial killer. Now there is the fact that everyone from the original Quill and Skull were all killed. At this point the mystery guest is brought in by FP and Charles who is none other then Jughead’s grandfather. I knew it was going to be him. It seems that one of the guys came to see the original Forsythe to warn him DuPont was killing everyone. Two days later that person died. Forsythe did the only thing he could do and went for a pack of smokes and never came back. This is also why Jughead was recruited to the school to bring his grandfather out of hiding. During the time Forsythe was in hiding he collected evidence to prove that DuPont was behind everyone’s death. Charles and FP looked through DuPont house and found the trophy’s he collected from everyone he had killed. Charles went to arrest DuPont but he decided to jump out the window. Really, how did no one see that he was going to do that, he kept backing up towards the window. I called that while watching it.
Now with DuPont dead, so Charles takes a stab at interrogating Donna, Bret, and Joan. Joan has diplomatic immunity through her father so she is not going to be a help. Donna keeps trying to lie but eventually says that DuPont gave her Mr. Chipping’s tie pin and to make it look like a suicide. Which is was but one Mr. Chipping felt pressured to do. When Charles talked to Bret and tried to offer him a deal if he turns in the sex tapes, Bret offered a counter for less charges or he would release Jughead and Betty’s sex tape. Charles when out to think about it and in came FP and Jughead to show Bret how Serpent’s negotiate. Charles then comes back into the room because it seems that Bret is willing to cooperate with the investigation now.
They find the sex tapes hidden behind the school crest, Jughead does the smart thing and destroys his. Are there no cameras in that school? Wouldn’t security see a someone messing with the crest. Or did Bret pay them off, I guess that is more likely. Alice gives a great report on what happened at the school. Betty pays a visit to Donna who is packing up because she is transferring schools. It is here we learn the truth about Donna. It seems her grandmother was one of the original Quill and Skulls’ members. Donna came to school because her goal was to get close to DuPont and make him pay. What Betty didn’t know was that her grandmother came up with Tracy True so she was also stolen from. Which is why Donna is so happy she got the Baxter Brother’s contract but its going in a different direction with a focus on Tracy True. Betty tells Donna to drop the Baxter Brother’s contract because so many people had to die in order for her to get revenge. If Donna doesn’t she will realize the proof she has of Donna’s linage as well as evidence to support Donna’s whole revenge plot. Betty promises Donna that she will be watching her. Let’s be honest Jughead’s should have the contract with a deal that is better then all the rest to help his family get back some of the money that should have been theirs in the first place. DuPont took advantage of Forsythe when he made that deal.
Cheryl thinks that the whole Betty and Archie pretend dating was more realistic then they are letting on. Jughead is back at Riverdale High because there is no legal reason for him no to be. Betty and Veronica tell both Jughead and Archie they are going to do everything to ensure that they graduate. Like Veronica needs anything else on her plate. Kevin sits down to join the table because they all are signing up for the variety show. Which I am guessing will be the next episode.
We finally have the full story, I will admit I didn’t even factor the Stonewall 4 into being important to the whole plot. I should have because it was mentioned so much but I kept thinking that they were using it as fear tactic. I should have paid more attention to that part of the story. Otherwise everything else makes complete sense and was pretty much all things we knew. We didn’t know who had hit Jughead with the rock and the fact it wasn’t Bret or Donna, I am a bit shocked by. With who manipulative Donna was being and how invested she was in on all of this it makes sense it was for revenge. I wasn’t sure if she had a motive or if she was a sociopath. They all seemed to have some level of sociopathic tendencies so it wasn’t outside the realm of possibilities.
I am happy that part of the story is done because everyone still needs to figure out what Charles is up to since we all know he has an angle is he is playing. Granted he was a great help with bringing Stonewall down but it still doesn’t change the fact he is working with Chic. They have something planned and I want to know what it is.
Also I don’t know how I feel about the whole possible Betty and Archie happening. I know she was one if his main gf’s in the comics. Cheryl is also one of Archie’s gfs in the comics. Unless they are going to break up her and Toni which will have a lot of people pissed off myself included there is no point in trying to make all the actual relationships happen. Not to mention they would have to bring Sabrina in at some point because she also dated Archie. I am really happy I have not had to watch a show about Archie being the village bicycle. I am even more happy I didn’t have to watch love triangle on repeat between Betty, Archie and Veronica. I am really over the whole love triangle thing. I feel its played out at this point.
I was right the next episode will be the variety show which will be fun because I do enjoy those episodes. I wonder how are going to do them when they are not all in high school anymore.

oh my GOD the new ep!!!! like!!!!!!!!! SO MUCH happened but then also the preview for the next ep looks SO GOOD
**spoilers for first kisses and last words**
Hoo boy this was, as I predicted, a BIG one. Not that I needed to be an oracle to figure that out since there’s only a few eps left but man did it deliver.
I still think that Cool Kids, Cold Case had the most off the wall nonsense happening in the shortest period of time but this ep I think was overall the most consistently wild ep.
So let’s take it from the top.
I think I forgot to mention it before but Adaine’s, “I go into a rage,” hardcore cracked me up.
“I have hold person.”/”I stuff a sock in her mouth.” Insult to injury Adaine.
The entire group dunking on Aelwen, forgetting that Riz is literally bleeding out, half dead.
“sausage festival”
Adaine really was dead serious about her snitching threat huh?
Ally miming a boom mic.
I love how everyone including Siobhan mess up Aelwen’s name or mix it up with Adaine’s half the time.
And speaking of, wow. What a rise and fall for her in 3 eps (and about an hour in game time). She’s queen of the nerds. She’s not even cool at her own school. And terrified of whoever she made whatever shady deal with. I know she literally tried to kill the whole party last ep and that she’s the worst but I almost feel for her.
Almost.
“This is not on you. This is on the world within which you inhabit.”
I love Adaine’s semi-indigent, “We’re not going to kill you,” because Alwen was 100% ready to murder them which, side note, imagine how much on an international incident that would have been.
Lol at the group tag team bullying Aelwen about going to Mumple and Adaine using her magic jacket for super petty BS.
“Hey mom!”/”GodDAMMIT honey.”
The parent/kid relationships are so good in this show.
Everyone but Kristen parkouring off the roof when Sklonda specifically set up a ladder.
“The put a girl in a palimpsest,” followed immediately by, “She went to a party,” as if those are on the same level.
Sklonda Gukgak DUNKING Aelwen into the squad car with a technical assist from Adaine. I knew she was gonna be my fave parent from her intro scene and I love her even more than I thought.
“With all due respect, (A/N: Which is none), suck my dick, fuck you.”
“She tried to murder me.”/”BE THAT AS IT IS.”
“Eh, you carry a gun.”
“No one who’s detecting maidens is a maiden.”
I feel like I’m quoting a lot today but there were so many money lines this episode.
Everyone always loses it when Brennan starts doing the Identify spell voice and I love it.
Adaine’s dad is T R A S H
Adaine’s mom on the other hand…I’ve been wondering about her for a little while because usually the outright emotional abuse has been from her dad while her mom is either not there or not saying anything. So I’ve been wondering was her deal is and we finally got the start of an answer. I know we only have a few eps left but I hope we go a little deeper into what exactly is going on there. It seems like Adaine’s parents are gonna be a big factor in whatever endgame is planned so fingers crossed,
Everyone cracking up as Emily backs Fig into a corner talking to Penelope.
I love Gorgug so freaking much. Just his good natured, lumbering self. EVery time Zac opens his mouth gold falls out.
Emily MAXED out her deception huh?
I think Siobhan must have forgotten that she took the crystal with Ostentasia away from Aelwen at the end of last ep. Either that or they willingly gave it to the cops and I forgot (but I think it’s the former because she said in this ep that it was in Aelwen’s pocket when at the end of the last ep she def took it).
My autocorrect keeps wanting me to type Ellen for Aelwen. I WISH.
I knew it! He’s a PIRATE. Suck it Fabian. (lol at Adaine stirring the pot. That was like Adaine being sincerely polite and Siobhan trying to cause problems and I love mixed motive player/character decisions).
I wonder if the banker is named after John Hughes.
I can’t believe the dumb bank is actually a huge plot point.
Yikes, re: Bill and Fabian. That got tense. Though I’ve kinda been waiting for some kind of blowout for a while. His dad runs very hot and cold and I figured it would only be a matter of time before we saw some of the cold.
Also, Lou breaking character in the middle of that very intense moment to clarify a plot point.
Sidenote: For a hot sec after reading the title of the ep and remembering how Sklonda is competent to the point of (probably) breaking the original plot, I was so concerned she was gonna eat it this ep. So glad she didn’t.
Anyway, the idea of swinging sadly on a rope is so freaking funny.
Fig: Can I offer you a sad song in this trying time?
Huge portrait of Bill Seacaster in Fabian’s room.
Adaine is gonna bring up him kissing her sister very time she needs to get out of something w/ Fabian for the rest of her immortal life.
Another sidenote: This is a little thing but I always think it’s interesting when fantasy worlds have the same months and days as us when they’re named after like Norse Gods and Roman statesmen that wouldn’t exist in their world. Same with Roman numerals and Irish coffee.
“Am I allowed to smoke in here?”/”Of course.”
I really like the character detail that Adaine is always really polite to everyone, including/especially people like Fabian’s maid and Basrar. People that she wouldn’t necessarily “have to” be polite to, you know? It’s like she’s trying to make up for the fact that her family is a bag of dicks.
“Fantasy Google”
The whole bit with Fabian’s porn stash was so good. This group is so good w/ yes-adning each other.
“Privateer me a new one.” Emily is so good.
“Special investment” Suspicious
I was thinking “I can’t believe looking at a bank’s FAQs is part of this game,” right as Brennan said it.
So I went back and watched Siobhan’s face from when Emily first mentioned Kal Vaxis to when she got the connection to KVX and it took her 22 seconds. I also missed the quick cut to Brennan when Gorgug asks, “What is Kal Vaxis,” and you can tell he knows they’re so close to breaking it with the little grin on his face. I wish we had gotten a reaction shot right after she got it. Anyway, great team solve w/ the MVP trophy to Siobhan/Adaine.
I loved when Zac, Emily, and Siobhan all whipped out their laminated maps in tandem to figure out what was happening.
The hard mood change from Adaine dropping the bomb about Riz’s dad and to forming a committee to help Gorgug flirt with Zelda was wild.
Kristen telling anyone to be suave is hysterical.
What a DISASTER of a committee Gorgug’s friends are. Well meaning but so trash
Fig: Tell her you got a SICK tattoo
Adaine: Bring her to see art in the middle of the night
Fabian: You cannot date this person (Kristen: You absolutely have to)
Kristen: Actually not garbage advice but she is in no position to be giving dating advice to anyone
Riz: Having a literal existential crisis
“Who else is he gonna date?” WOW, savage Adaine.
I meant to say this before but I love how Adaine’s go-to is immediately ice cream and she’s always on board to go to Basrar’s. Like how when she texted everyone 2 eps ago she was like, “Let’s get ice cream now.”
Mmm, don’t love that Gorthalax isn’t answering his phone. I have been waiting for a significant adult to die for a while now.
OK, look, the whole thing about Penelope and Dayne being eternal prom king/queen. Is it wild? Yes. Is it implausible? No. No it’s not. Even Murph, most veteran player, was kind of like, “Wait, does that make sense?” Because, in this setting, it kind of would? I’m not sure it fits within the story so far and I’d have to go back and listen to the more lore-y stuff again but the conceit itself is like the exact right amount of crazy to fit in this setting? And they never cut to Brennan like I wanted so I could judge his face for any kind of tell. But anyway, you guys know I’ve been predicting a prom finale and this would fit right into a prom finale.
The girls giving Gorgug a pep talk before his date was ADORABLE.
Gorgug having to check his phone to remember three words, “You look nice.”
“Your friends are popular and loud” True
Zelda’s a BARBARIAN! She’s a MEGA BARBARIAN!
I know they mean ecstasy like intense emotion but I kept thinking, like, molly.
Hmm, so Penelope wanted to know if Zelda had hooked up w/ Gorgug, ie: if she was a maiden. Can they only palimpsest maidens? Or (as we will get to later) does nice guy Biz only want virginal maidens for his creepy reverse Weird Science arcade setup?
Zelda listing off every type of metal and then Gorgug’s, “Same stuff,” was perfect comic timing on Zac’s part.
Imagine the Hangman screaming down the road on fire, Zelda completely terrified.
I love the Hangman so freaking much.
“DO NOT GIVE TREATS TO MY MOTORCYCLE.”
I can’t believe everyone is living at the freaking crappy apartments. I knew they were all gonna end up hanging at one persons’ house but I kinda figured it would be Fabian’s house or Gorgug’s house.
I”m also concerned about Bill. I feel like we keep getting reminded that he’s mortal a LOT.
Did Gorgug’s parents have indoor fireworks on tap for Gorgug’s first date?
Oh my God the whole docking conversation. Never play chicken with Brennan because the dude will not blink.
“We didn’t do that.” That’s his other best comic timing moment of the ep.
“Polishing my axe”
Kristen this episode
I really wish they’d made the roll to find Ragh later in the ep. Fig is so ride or die for Gilear now and I love it.
“I fall asleep.”
Adaine almost making her parents dunk on Gilear but then pulling back.
But also, Adaine and Gilear going off the the oracle together.
“Fig pack it in.”
Affirmations with Fig and Gilear.
Fig, do you really think platonically cuddling with Kristen is the move?
Riz setting himself up for a dramatic entrance is so fantastic.
Hmm, so Biz and Zayne were attacked at the same time. That’s why that cold pill detail was in there way back. I’ve been trying to figure out what was always planned and what was quick re-working but Brennan is so good I can never really tell.
Are multiple unrelated groups just getting into palimpsests at the same time? Or mostly unrelated groups tied to one person?
“We are not gonna get our security deposit back.”
RIZ’S DAD IS JAMES BOND! YES! I didn’t know I wanted that to be the case until it happened and now that’s the only acceptable option.
Riz didn’t get the 20′s he needed when fighting Aelwen but man he got it at the best story moment this week.
Oh man that home movie
The pearl is grey. Interesting.
“Mom our family is so awesome Mom we’re all so badass, I thought it was just us but Dad is awesome too, why didn’t you tell me Mom?”
Sklonda: Internally screaming.
Man he went full Inigo Montoya.
“I’ve got nimble escape so…”
“I guess we have a two bedroom,” I think was a really underrated funny line.
Did Riz ever tell his mom about the time of death thing.
Everyone inundating Gilear with overlapping chatter.
lol the Hangman likes Zelda’s family
Ally’s panicked, “FUCK” is always hilarious.
Why are all the adults in Gorgug’s life trying to get him laid?
OK so the elementals were conjured by Aelwn’s magic Brennan said. He said by Aelwen’s magic, not by Aelwen. I wonder if that turn of phrase was specific or arbitrary. Like, we were told where Aelwen is but we don’t know. Was she forced to do it (either by threat or by magic)? Clearly someone (Biz?) is pulling her strings to at least some degree.
“It’s probably about marriage.” “WAR HAS BEEN DECLARED.”
That happened fast
Fun fact from my International Law class: When a government kidnaps someone, it’s called rendition.
“There’s a war, fuck school.”
Yeah it is wild that Adaine’s parents didn’t call her.
OK so did the Elves get Aelwen back but also go, “But you still need to go to jail.” Because they cut Brennan off before the end of that sentence which might have had more clues in it.
“I text my mom k”
I also wanna know who gave Kristen a slushy marg (It’s war times. I bet things are looser now)
Murph’s face when Brennan said, “Lucky Stones” was so good. That was so Riz.
S/O to Ally for pre-casting Guardian of Faith. Good instinct.
AHHHHHH BIZ
As I said in an earlier conversation s/o to Adaine for DUNKING on him at every opportunity because he DESERVED IT. Also, her instincts for who sucks in this game have been spot on.
Another s/o to Riz for having the presence of mind to not pull a Star Lord and to pretend to be on the bad dude’s side for long enough to gain some kind of upper hand.
OK, wow was not expecting that twist. I feel like I need to go back and rewatch some stuff to get a better handle of the timeline and stuff. Like, when exactly did the girls start going missing again? And what year is Biz? Has he been masterminding this whole thing? I feel like no but I feel like he’s masterminding his own thing which happens to a puzzle piece in something bigger? BUT IT’S A PRETTY DAMN BIG PIECE. Who opened the new arcade? Is it connected to the bank? How did Biz get involved? Who’s his supplier? Did someone hook up Biz, Daybreak, Penelope, and Aelwen with Palimpsests to do their own separate things, hoping that at least one of them would succeed which would somehow be good for the mystery person? I am so excited to find out and I really hope Brennan and the cast do a Q+A sesh after S1 is over to hash some stuff out.
Siobhan’s face when Biz said he was going after Adaine.
ALSO, you’re just gonna TELL RIZ and you wanna PUT ONE OF HIS BEST FRIENDS into a MAGIC CRYSTAL???? AND YOU THOUGHT HE’D BE ON BOARD? Like, even if he was, what about the 4 other people who are there?????
(sidenote, wild Gorgug’s parents just left them alone, no questions asked)
Theme-wise, this is the fight ep I’m most excited for. It seems rad as hell.
All that yelling in the promo for next week. Either the raddest thing possible happened or there was a TPK. There is no other option.
Wow, that was a stellar ep and this is a really long post. I really can’t wait for next week’s!
Edit: I meant to say before, is Penelope’s FB album like…a hit list? Like does whoever’s doing the actual dirty work (Biz? S/o else?) know that whoever she takes a picture with is who they should target?

Kek what is this beautiful trash...???
It’s beauiful trashy POST-NDRV3 Fanfic featuring the wonders of a virtual Reality AU... because I’m salty about the ending and want my children to be alive...
#Heavy NDRV3 Spoilers.
Amami was first into the room. It was a small classroom, 16 desks, and with no other worthy-to-be-mentioned features to it. It was dark, hues of blue and greys and blacks, and the Ultimate Adventurer had no choice but to take a seat by the window and wait. The doors didn’t open and the windows had no way to unlock, nor would they smash. So all he did was wait. Was this hell? It felt like hell.
When the doors opened, and Kaede Akamatsu walked in, Amami could say he did understand the situation a tiny bit better.
“A-Amami?!”
“Yo.”
“Wh-What is this.. Is this hell?”
“Who knows. So did you possibly kill me, Akamatsu?”
Kaede paused, eyes wide before nodding slowly.
“So you were the Mastermind?” Amami continued and Kaede frowned.
“No… I thought you were… that’s why I set the whole thing up…”
Amami paused for a moment.
“I see… So you didn’t kill me.”
“Wh- What? But Monokuma sai-”
“Monokuma can lie if no one knows the truth. You didn’t kill me, because that shot put missed. If it had hit me, how would I know it was a shotput, because I’d have died instantly. See?” Amami answered, proving Kaede’s innocence to the girl who just gaped confused.
“The shot putt form above didn’t kill me. Someone hit me from behind.”
“Then- Then-”
“The True Mastermind.”
Silence fell as Kaede took everything in. Amami let her, gave her the space and silence she needed to comprehend what had happened.
“It’s likely they executed you to cover it up, they would have wanted me dead as soon as possible anyway from what I knew.”
“Knew?”
“Well I didn’t remember at the time… But that wasn’t my first killing game.”
“... I remember. You were in the 52nd season.”
“Yes.”
“This is messed up.”
“Exactly, and what’s more messed up is that we wanted it, Akamatsu.”
When Ryoma Hoshi walked through the doors after what felt like a few days later, Amami could only sigh and Kaede looked concerned.
“Well this is odd.”
“And the killing continues I can assume.” Amami frowned. He wanted to prevent this. How had he failed so early on.
“I let her. She needed to get out… Or I thought she did at least.”
“Her?”
“Kirumi.”
It came as no shock when Kirumi Tojo burst through the doors later that ‘day’ (as there was a lacking concept of time to the room, and the students felt no need to sleep or eat or breathe… so it certainly was hell.)
She was quite composed about the whole thing, accepting the outcome of everything after remembering she had willingly signed up, and had met the end she had begged for in her audition. She was repulsed at who she had been, but kept her cool, and settled into a seat near the front of the class.
“If it means anything, I apologize for my actions. I believe the motive video was a strong factor behind the path I took.”
“Don’t worry.”
When Angie and Tenko entered together Amami just dropped his head to the desk and let out a frustrated noise.
“Is this Heaven? Atua must have reunited us in this plain~!”
“Heaven? Atua?”
“This isn’t heaven Angie, it looks like hell to me.”
Tenko was slightly disheartened to learn Kiyo has behind her death, from Angie’s explanation on what had occurred. On the other hand though, she was relieved. If she hadn’t offered to take Yumeno’s place… then the small magician would be dead instead of her. That was enough to keep Tenko sane.
When Kiyo came through the doors, he didn’t apologize.
Nor was he forgiven.
But none the less, he took a seat near the back of the class, and sat in silence.
“Would it be wrong to guess who’ll step through the doors next?”
“...”
“Yes, probably, considering it means you’re guessing who dies next.”
“Well it’s not like there is much else to do here anyway.”
“Fine.”
So the group of teens decided to pass their time trapped in the room by predicting who would walk through those doors next.
Tenko spent most of her time silently praying it wouldn’t be Himeko, after Kiyo had said the short redhead would be next because she was an easy target. Amami and Kaede refused to guess because they found it to be horrible.
Angie claimed Atua had informed her it would be Kiibo and Ryoma had quietly guessed it would be Maki. Kirumi simply decided on Iruma.
When Iruma Miu walked through the doors next, though she didn’t show it, Kirumi felt a tiny bit of smugness, at guessing right.
“As if you guessed right.”
“It was merely a random guess.”
“Guess? You fuckers guessed on who’d die next, and you picked me? I’ll have you know I was mid murder plot..-” Iruma stopped, and then frowned.
“Woops.”
“You were? Do share.” Kiyo asked, sounding the slightest bit excited for some reason.
“Haa? Why should I fucking tell you my plans?”
“Because we’re stuck in this room with no way out and it might pass the time?” Ryoma suggested.
In the end Iruma admitted she’d been about to kill Ouma before behind strangled from behind, dying witnessing Ouma’s smug victorious face, because the fucker knew her plan all along.
“That little shit better die soon.” Iruma added and Kaede shook her head in disapproval. She didn’t want anyone else to die, but if people kept coming by themselves, it meant Saihara must be solving the trials, she hoped he was doing okay.
Gonta came through the doors next, and at the sight of them all, he burst into tears.
“Gonta is so happy to see everyone again.”
And Gonta would not stop apologizing to Iruma, to the point she was forced to accept his apology.
“Will the game really continue to just two of them?”
“It has every other time.”
“Saihara won’t die. I’m sure.”
“Yumeno won’t die either! I have faith in her!” Tenko declared.
The doors creaked open once again, and Amami raised his head from his desk, and met the wide grin of Kokichi Ouma who stood in the doorway with a hand raised in greeting to the Adventurer.
“Nishishi, fancy seeing you guys here.” Was all he said.
Iruma got up first, and slapped the shorter boy, before returning to her seat, feeling a lot better about herself, even if she had tried to kill him first.
“Hello to you too Iruma.”
“Someone finally took the initiative to kill you?”
“They probably did it after learning what he did to Gonta and Iruma.”
“Nope~! I had Momota-chan crush me.”
“Wait- Had?”
“Yup~! I did. If everything goes right, then it should end the game.”
“You gave your life to end the game?”
“Sure did.”
And then Ouma bounced right over to Amami, sitting down on top of the boys desk with a smaller more genuine smile.
“You’re an idiot Ouma.” Amami deadpanned and Ouma gave a small nishishi .
“So are you.” Ouma retorted and the two fell into quiet laughs.
When Kaito Momota walked through the doors, Ouma punched the wall. Pain wasn’t something they could feel here, and injuries never occurred, so it did nothing at all, it was simply a way to vent his anger.
“Wha- What is this-”
“Momota-chan what happened?!” Ouma asked with a frown, wondering how his plan had failed.
“Shuuichi figured everything out, and then decided to lie at the last second saying I was you, but... I couldn’t let him do it…”
Ouma just sighed as though he expected it.
“My Beloved Saihara-chan is just too smart.”
Tsumugi Shirogane came next, and Kiibo followed her heels.
“So it’s over?” Amami asked upon seeing her and she nodded.
“It’s over.”
“What’s over, what do you mean?”
“Shirogane was the Mastermind.” Amami admitted.
“What?”
Ouma’s nose curled up in disgust. The Mastermind had been under his nose the entire time?
Kaede was gobsmacked too, she hadn’t expected that whatsoever. Why had Ammai kept quiet.
“Did you know the entire time Amami?”
“Only after speaking to Kaede, she helped me clear up some memories... Shirogane was in the 52nd season too. She wasn’t the true Mastermind, that would be Team Danganronpa, who crafted her memories to make her that way.”
“It’s true. I wasn’t a willing Mastermind.”
“Keeboy died too?” Ouma asked, and Kiibo nodded.
“It was the only way to destroy the place.”
“What was?” Kirumi asked.
“Self destructing.”
And Kiibo ignored the few pitying or shocked looks, Kiibo ignored Kaede’s tears and Ouma’s tauntings, and simply turned to the doors behind him.
“No one should come through those again.”
“There’s 16 seats though.”
“Who knows.”
Maki came what felt like shortly after, and blinked through tears on seeing Kaito once again.
“What happened?”
“Everything ended… but the world didn’t want us back. I- I tried to protect them.. But I guess I died.”
Yumeno came after that and Tenko cried, so much, refusing to let go of her. Yumeno cried a lot too though, and Angie shed some tears as well. It was sad to see that even after everything ended, they weren’t welcome into the world as they had hopepd to be.
“Shuuichi is alone?”
Silence fell.
The detective was alone in the world.
Oddly though, the detective didn’t step into the room for days upon days later. Maybe it was months? Maybe it was years? They had no way of telling, but Amami could confirm this was the longest they had waited by far.
Saihara did eventually come through the doors, but it wasn’t the Saihara they knew, that much was evident.
“Shuuichi!”
“Saihara?”
“Sa...i..hara-cha..n?”
Saihara looked like shit, and was completely in denial that they were in front of them.
“This isn’t real.”
“This is real.” Kaito countered, trying to move closer to the detective, who looked like the living dead which was punny since the detective had just died.
“No.” Saihara shuffled back as far as he could, back against the door, sliding down against it, as far back as he could go from any of them.
“This isn’t real.”
Saihara assumed the smallest position he could, knees tucked under his head, facing down.
“I’m alone. You're not real.”
“Shuuichi-”
Kaito was lost for words, all of them were. The strain of being alone had obviously not seated well with the detective. Kaede made a move from her seat, only to meet the arm of Ouma Kokichi who blocked her way, shaking his head at her attempts to move, before silently going over to the boy instead. Ouma said nothing, sliding down against the door too, taking a similar position, but resting his chin atop his knees instead.
“Saihara-chan. We’re most definitely real.” Ouma whispered.
“No-”
“Saihara-chan”
“No!”
“Shuuichi.”
Saihara lifted his head, and his eyes turned to Ouma, sharp, focused, and a spark Ouma was trying to find in the lost soul before him.
“There you are Saihara-chan. I was beginning to think you were lost.”
“Wh.. What did you call me?” Saihara whispered quietly.
“Hm? Saihara-chan?”
“N..No you said Shu-”
“Who knows what I said~ After all I am a liar.” Ouma shrugged, standing back up, and returning to Amami’s desk, which he had taken to sitting on, rather than taking a desk of his own.
Saihara’s eyes stayed glued to Ouma, who had started talking quietly to Amami. The detective's eyes never left the back of the Supreme Leader, even after he was swarmed, by Maki, Himeko, Kaede and Kaito.
In the end, Saihara accepted he had died, and explained what had happened to Maki and Himeko.
“Shortly after we left, we were chased by a large group. Maki made us go ahead.”
“Yeah Maki Roll told us that.”
“Himeko and Me made it to some mountain pass, found some shelter there, but they jumped on us while it was dark. I was asleep, and Himeko was watching, but they found us and I couldn’t do anything to stop them.”
“After that, it was just me by myself, trying to stay ahead of them. I managed for a while too, seems the Ultimate Detective title wasn’t just for crime solving, but crime committing. I broke into a lot of places to hide in, stole things.. It wasn’t… It wasn’t living. It wasn’t the freedom we fought for. It was hell, and death seemed peaceful compared to living in hell… So... that’s what happened.”
It was silent as the detectives words sunk in.
Saihara hadn’t been killed.
He’d killed himself.
“Saihara!”
Kaede had clung to him for who knows how long, crying onto his shoulder. Even Ouma and Kiyo had the decency to not speak. Hell, most of the class had clambered to comfort him.
In the end, the 16 of them settled once more, taking a desk each, wondering if now they were all reunited, they could leave this purgatory-like Room?
Oddly enough, as though them taking their seats was the key to the whole thing, the world around them began to glitch, walls juttering in awkward directions, desks fading in and out of view. Yumeno let out a shriek in shock, and even Kiyo lost his composure for a second. Tenko made a move to stand up, to go to the Magician, but Amaimi’s voice kept her seated.
“Stop. We don’t know what happens if we get back up.”
So Tenko stayed put, as much as it pained her to do so, itching to get up from her seat.
And through all the chaos, the unexplained events surrounding the room, everything faded to black.
“Up you get, steady now, not too quickly.”
Saihara blinked in shock, at first all he could see was white, his eyes trying desperately to seek something out, but it hurt, it hurt so much Saihara clamped them shut again. All he could feel was someone slowly helping him sit up, from where he lay… the ground beneath him felt like it was humming, cold metal against his back. Odd…
“Careful now, give your eyes time to adjust.”
Saihara frowned. He couldn’t see but he knew that voice. He knew that voice… but it couldn’t be them.
“Do you know who you are?”
Saihara paused. Who has he… Was he Saihara Shuuichi or was he the monster who’d eagerly signed up for his own death, for the chance to murder for fame and glory…?
"Saihara Shuuichi.” Came the feeble voice. Saihara was shocked, he sounded awful, like he hadn’t spoken for a while… what?
“Good. Right do you think you could try opening your eyes for me? Slowly, they need to adjust to the light.”
Saihara gave a weak nod, arms clinging to the arm supporting him. He felt weak, like he hadn’t used his body in so long. It took a bit, of squinting and blinking, before Saihara could make out vague shapes and colours, browns and blacks and greens.
He was right then.
“How… How much was the truth?”
“I think that conversation is better held with you all together.”
“All… everyone is alive?”
“Yes.”
That was enough for Saihara. He understood parts of the situation, could vaguely guess what had happened, but he needed confirmation.
But all he knew for sure, was he was alive. He was alive, and everyone was alive, and he would make sure things stayed that way.
…
Or that’s what he had hoped.
For the first few days, Saihara wasn’t allowed out of the room, he was kept under some monitoring, and attended to by some clumsy nurse, with a soft spoken voice, until his condition meant he could walk properly, and that they knew he was okay… or as okay as he could be.
It took about three days for Saihara to be able to stand on two feet, hands clutching onto the arm of his career. From what he’d been told, they’d all been assigned someone, and Saihara was grateful he was with someone as patient and considerate as the short brunette he knew to be Naegi Makoto.
“Do you think you could try a step?”
Saihara gave a nod. He had to try, he had to step onwards, Kaede had taught him as much.
And Saihara, by the end of the fourth day, could walk without assistance, Naegi staying by his side though, ready to catch the detective if needs be.
By the end of the week, Saihara finally got to see someone other than the nurse and Naegi.
That someone was the unexpected arrival of a boy who most certainly looked like Kiibo… except.
“Hello Saihara.”
“Kiibo?”
“Yes. That’s correct.”
Except the Ultimate Robot… wasn’t really living up to his talent…
“It appears I’m not actually a robot…” Kiibo mumbled, scratching the back of his head, bashfully.
A 100% a flesh and blood human.
“Wha..”
“I’m actually just a normal person… Odd isn’t it.”
He certainly looked like normal though, his facial features remained the same, hair still unruly as ever.
“Are you okay, Saihara?”
“Yeah… Are you?”
“Yes. I apparently recovered quickest, so I’ve been allowed to visit some of you.”
“Some?”
Kiibo went silent for a second.
“Ah…”
Saihara couldn’t help the unease in his stomach, to the extent he had to ask what the boy meant.
“What do you mean some?”
“Some people… don’t remember.”
“Remember what?”
“Anything after the game started… They basically don’t remember anything except the… well… the monsters we were.”
Saihara couldn’t help but raise a hand to his mouth, which he knew was open in shock and horror.
He didn’t really understand everything yet, it hadn’t been explained, but he knew he’d always been Saihara Shuuichi, and that the monster who’d signed up for the game wasn’t him, that was the fictional him. Saihara Shuuichi was not fictional, but #154 was..
“So… they think- they think they’re..”
“Yes. Some one them believe themselves to be the monsters we were made to be.”
“W-Who?”
Kiibo blinked.
“I can’t answer.”
“Kiibo please.”
“I can’t tell you, but I can tell you Kaede is okay.” And then he turned to leave.
Two weeks after waking up, Saihara finally got an explanation, and was allowed to leave the room.
Essentially what had happened was that he, and his classmates, all of which genuinely were his classmate, and part of the rebuilt Hope’s Peak, had been captured by some of the last parts of Despair, and forced into a simulation similar to what the 77th class had endured, except… they’d been led to believe their entire identities were fiction, with the creation of fake versions of themselves.
Essentially, the people they thought they were, and the sides of them they thought were fictional… were swapped. Their talents existed, their families and motives were correct, and the people who they’d been told they were, Danganronpa-crazed fans seeking glory in murder, were fictional.
For some of them though, after waking from the Sim, they’d forgotten their true selves, and believed in the fictional versions of themselves. Some of their history may be accurate, but that was all they could remember. No killing game. No having met any of them before… Nothing.
The Staff of the New Hope’s Peak and Remnants of Future Foundation had found the class of Ultimates under Simulation, fairly quickly, and defeated the last of Despair, but couldn’t wake the students up without risking their brains being fried. The only way it would end was with every single one of their deaths, which explained the room waiting for them, and why none of them had left for the extended period of time it took for Saihara to eventually ‘die.’
With his new found freedom, Saihara made it his mission to seek out anyone… someone…
Kiibo had been busy with the Staff and Future Foundation, the Ultimate Robotics Student was assisting them in dismantling the Simulation, processing data, and attempting to reverse the memory wipes which had occurred when some students awoke. Saihara understood it was important, and Kiibo likely knew the most in the subject, but Saihara hadn’t been able to speak to him since that one encounter.
When Saihara ended up walking the gardens of the huge area they were in currently, he found himself finally finding someone.
Namely Rantaro Amami.
“Yo, Saihara.” Amami smiled, a small gentle smile, waving a hand before beckoning him to sit beside him, on the stone bench.
Saihara complied, taking a seat beside the Ultimate Adventurer.
“Hello Amami.”
“Nice to see you’re okay. Are you managing okay? Just let me know if not.. I’ve got an… impressive… person helping me out, and I’m sure he wouldn’t mind helping out if you need anything.”
“Ah- It’s okay Amami, I have someone rather pleasant myself.”
Amami just let out a quiet laugh.
“Ah, if only the same could be said for Kaede. She told me she has the most odd and Chuunibyou-like person ever. Not a bad person, just odd.”
“You’ve spoken to her?”
“Yeah. Our rooms are opposite one another. There’s two rooms per floor.. So you should be with someone too… Have you noticed?”
“No…” Saihara admitted. He hadn’t looked, but now that he thought about it… there was a room opposite… probably?
“If you want, I’ll show you where abouts our rooms are?”
“Please.”
While Saihara was on the 11th floor, Amami was only on the 2nd, and Saihara was grateful it wasn’t a long walk.
The door read Kaede Akamatsu, and Saihara could vaguely recall his own might have said his name on it…? Maybe?
Amami stood beside him reassuringly, as Saihara raised a fist, to knock.
“It’s open” Kaede’s voice chimed, after Saihara knocked, and slowly but surely Saihara opened the door, filled with the same feeling of unease and fear he’d felt opening those Library doors to that god awful scene…
And Saihara swore opening the doors was the best sight he’d seen since he woke up. Kaede looks positively radiant, a gentle smile on her lips, head swaying to the quiet sound of something classical Saihara didn’t know the name of.
“Saihara!”
As soon as Kaede saw him, she launched herself at him, accidentally tugging him onto the ground with her, Amami somehow ending up pulled down too.
The three paused for a second before breaking out into giggles.
“It’s good to see you’re okay Saihara.”
“It’s good to see you too! I was worried you’d.. Kiibo told me some of us… aren’t us.”
“What?”
Neither of the 2nd floor residents had heard this.
“Kiibo let slip that some of us woke up.. And didn’t remember us.. Only the fictional us.”
Kaede let out a gasp in shock, and Amami closed his eyes in horror.
“I don’t know who, he wouldn’t say… I don’t think he was meant to tell me.. But I was worried… I still am.”
Kaede’s hand found Saihara’s, giving it a reassuring squeeze.
“I’m sure they’re doing everything they can for whoever it is.”
“I hope so.”
The evening drew in, and eventually Saihara had to head back to his own floor, bidding farewell to Kaede and Amami who told him he was welcome to come by their floor anytime.
On his way back up, Saihara stopped outside the other door on his floor.
Ouma Kokichi.
Of all the people, Saihara was the least sure about Ouma. He was complex.. That was for sure. He wasn’t 100% certain he was ready to face the Ultimate Supreme Leader just yet…
It’s not like he could anyway, when two tall individuals left the room, one just slightly taller than the other.
Saihara had seen both of them… through Tsumugi’s talent in the Simulation. This was Hinata Hajime… but the name of the other escaped the detectives memory.
“Oh. Hello.” Hinata spoke, quietly, surprised to see someone in the hallway. The light haired male to his side just gave a skeptical look before smiling, a small smile that didn’t seem completely true. Actually it wreaked of the falseness that often masked Ouma’s face too.
“You must be Saihara… your room is on this floor too?”
“Yes. I am... “
“Are you here to see Ouma?” Hinata asked.
Saihara paused for a second before shrugging. He had to face everything, there was no point running.
“Ah.”
That was… unexpected.
“Ouma.. he’s not really in a state for visitors.” Hinata went on to explain, Saihara’s eyes darting between Hinata and the other, for any traces of a lie.
“He.. remembers though… right?”
The other, shook his head.
“Nope. He doesn’t remember much at all, he can give us his name and a bit of his history… and that’s all.”
Saihara’s eyes widened.
“But how do you know that, hm?” The light haired one went on to continue.
“Nagito stop pressuring the poor guy.” The other snapped and Komaeda rolled his eyes.
“Kiibo told me. Just.. not who.”
“Aha… sneaky, he wasn’t meant to~! But yeah, there’s Ouma, and I believe the girl on the 6th floor, and the two on the floor above. Only four.” Komaeda relayed and Hinata elbowed him.
“You’re not meant to say.”
“What? It’s not like I gave that much away… Such a downer Hajime.”
Saihara just backed away, into his own room, unnoticed by the two who ended up in petty bickering.
Ouma didn’t remember?
Ouma… didn’t remember…him.
To some, the boy had already been quite the monster, as his normal self… so what the hell was he like now? How much worse could he be?
Four days of sitting with his thoughts, Saihara had enough. He hadn’t really left his room that much in that time, and he hadn’t returned back to the 2nd floor. The only person he’d spoken to was was Naegi who brought him meals, after the detective refused to visit the dining hall for them.
“Naegi.”
“Hm?”
“Can .. Can I see Ouma?”
Naegi looked taken aback for a second, opening his mouth to say what Saihara already knew.
“I know he doesn’t.. He doesn’t remember… but.. I just want to try… see if maybe us being around him jogs his memory?”
“You weren’t supposed to know.”
“Komaeda told me.”
Naegi let out a weak curse, possibly a damn or a darnit, Saihara couldn’t hear properly, but he knew the gentle boy wouldn’t swear… especially since he was a headmaster after all, even if he was barely 23. He had to set a good example to the students he felt he’d failed.
“I.. could see if it would be possible.”
“Really?”
Saihara wasn’t sure why he sounded eager, but Naegi nodded.
“Yes. I’ll let you know as soon as we reach a decision.”
Two days later, Saihara finally found himself on the 2nd floor.
“Saihara, you okay? Expected you sooner.” Amami spoke, leaning against his door frame.
“Kaede’s down in the dining hall currently, with Yumeno and Angie, but you can wait in my room if you’d like.”
Saihara took Amami up on that offer, the tall boy being nothing short of a life saver. Saihara wasn’t sure how the boy could be so nice and positive after everything. Saihara still woke up screaming, and hated when the dark drew in, and the nightmares stalked his mind… but Amami seemed fine, and Saihara just couldn’t understand that.
“So why’d you wait a while?” Amami asked, as Saihara took a seat on the chair by the desk in the corner of the room, Amami sitting on the edge of the desk.
“Ouma’s on my floor.”
“Oh. I wondered where he’d ended up, I wasn’t allowed past floor 5 though. Have you spoken to him? Is he okay?”
“He.. I haven’t spoken to him. He doesn’t remember…”
Saihara let the words sink in, and watched Amami’s usually positive and composed demeanor sink.
“He doesn’t?” Was the feeble whisper Saihara managed to hear, giving a nod in confirmation. From the slowly returning pre-Sim memories, Saihara could recall the two were close, and that Amami had claimed the Supreme Leader as his brother (after all 12 sisters was lovely, but he’d longed for a little brother too, and well, Ouma calling him Nii-chan was just… perfect.)
“That’s…”
“I’m trying to get permission to see him, even if he doesn’t remember, so I can try and spark some memories or something.” Saihara went on to explain.
“Let me come too.” Amami answered, instantly, with a confident and determined look in his eyes.
“We'll have to ask.”
As it turned out, Amami had been assigned Togami Byakuya, and well… that guy could make anything happen. (Plus, not that anyone knew, but Togami also couldn’t resist Naegi’s puppy dog eyes that pleaded to let his patient into see the Supreme Leader.)
So Amami and Saihara stood outside the door of the Supreme Leader, unsure what to expect, accompanied by Komaeda, Hinata, Togami, Naegi and Kirigiri. It turned out that those without their memories were assigned two people, and Ouma had been assigned Komaeda and Hinata. Komaeda because they’d come across as similar to one another, and Hinata being the only one willing to work with Komaeda.
Kirigiri simply came along because she didn’t trust Naegi to not be a dork, and because she felt like the only sane and normal one from the group of Staff that would be there.
“What was that Ouma like.. The one they made?”
Saihara knew what some of them had been crafted like, knew Kaito had been made into a sadistic and bloodthirsty competitor who had wanted to kill every one of them, Kaede had no faith in humanity, and he himself had eagerly planned his own execution, planning the gruesome murders of his friends. What had Ouma been?
“...Imagine the opposite from normal I guess.”
“...”
Saihara just blinked. The opposite?
“What.”
But the question wasn’t answered, and Komaeda opened the door for them, without warning.
“Ouma?” Komaeda asked, bed empty. The small form of the Supreme Leader instead sat upon the thin window ledge, knees to his chin, staring out the window onto the vastness of greenery. Still donned in the same uniform he’d worn from his time as a student, the Supreme Leader sat, face slightly obscured by his trademark check scarf.
His head turned at the sound, eyes taking in the newest arrivals to the room.
“These guys wondered if they could spend some time with you, I promise you they’re good people, is that okay?”
Ouma nodded, staying silent, not making an attempt to move.
“Would you like us to stay, or we can wait outside?”
Ouma didn’t speak, but his eyes flitted between Amami and Saihara, before nodding towards the door.
“C’mon then.” Komaeda ushered the four of them out, following himself, leaving just Ouma, Amami and Saihara in the room.
“Will they be okay?” Was all Saihara heard before the door shut, and silence fell.
Ouma went back to staring out of the window.
“Ouma…” Amami started, and the boy flinched at his voice, but turning to look none the less.
“Do I know you?” Ouma asked, voice shaky, and small, he sounded so… Gods. Saihara stood frozen. This was Ouma? This...
Amami nodded, Saihara was sure neither of them could find words right now. The detective wanted nothing more than to simply scoop this small boy up into his arms and make sure he knew he was okay, he was safe… because frankly, Ouma looked petrified at them being in the same room as them.
“I’m Rantaro Amami.”
“And I’m Saihara.”
The Ultimate Detective was the only one of the two to notice the smallest flash of recognition in Ouma’s eyes, before he turned his face away, back to the window.
“Ouma.” Was all he said, introducing himself when it really wasn’t needed.
“Were you… in it to?”
Saihara and Amami looked at one another before both nodding.
“We were. Yes.”
Ouma just clutched his hands under his thighs, pulling his knees even higher.
“Th-.. Then could you please leave?” Ouma spoke, hands trembling, face not turning to meet them anymore.
Neither of them expected that. It was like looking at a completely different person.
“P..Please.” It was then, with Ouma’s voice breaking slightly, that Saihara and Amami could tell he was crying.
“C’mon Amami.” Saihara sighed, heading back towards the door. They didn’t want to make the boys condition worse, and he was obviously distressed by their presence. He likely thought them to be.. Well people who’d signed up for the game, and summarily probably not the best people… But Ouma… his personality just didn’t match what they’d all been made to be.
The two left, leaving behind Ouma who sat still, staring from his place by the window, raising a sleeve to wipe his damp eyes.
“Sorry, Shuuichi. ”
So that’s all I have so far...
But....
I have already started a second chapter
This has become surprisingly popular on AO3 compared to my other stuff
I kinda roughly know how I want it to play out
I have motivation
ALL IN ALL HERE IS HOPE FOR THIS FIC UNLIKE ALL THE OTHERS I ABANDON.

INCREASING WORK CAPACITY
Increasing work capacity – simply doing more work – is the secret if there ever was one. Learn the ins-and-outs of work capacity to optimize your training
Work capacity is the most important factor in training that people know nothing about.
First, let me just start off with a working definition of work capacity and an explanation of why it’s so important. Work capacity is, essentially, the total amount of work you can perform, recover from, and adapt positively to.
The total volume of work you expose your body to essentially determines the magnitude of the training effect you receive from the work. We all intuitively know this. You don’t walk into the gym, warm up, do one easy set of 10 biceps curls, and expect to find yourself ripping the sleeves of T-shirts any time soon. You have to expose your muscles to more of a training stimulus.
How do you progress then to attain your 18-inch pythons of glory? (I’m already regretting the example I picked, but I’m too stubborn to go back. Curl bros, savor this moment.) Well, obviously, you do more work. You pick a more challenging weight, increase your sets, do more exercises, decrease your rest intervals, etc. It’s not rocket science, and we all know that eventually, if you want your arms to grow, you’ll have to do more work.
However, this concept seems foreign to most people when applied to anything besides arm hypertrophy. The fitness world has become so entranced by minimalism that we’ve forgotten that eventually, you just have to do more work. People are surprised when they do the same program with the same sets and reps and the same accessory work for several months, and they eventually plateau. Then they ask about it on a message board and get a response like, “Oh, you’re doing too much so you can’t recover. Dial back what you’re doing and you’ll keep getting stronger.”
So, lo and behold, they dial back their training volume and the gains start coming again. Only they last for a mere 4-8 weeks. Then they plateau even harder. Why? They weren’t getting stronger. They were peaking. Their body was accustomed to a certain level of work. When they reduced the amount of work, supercompensation happened, and they could put more weight on the bar. However, that’s not something that happens indefinitely. But, the fact is, it “worked” for a while, so this person ends up banging their head against a wall on a super low volume routine wondering why they’re not getting any stronger, not questioning the efficacy of their new routine because it worked initially.
Eventually, after months of wasted time, they decide to change things up. They start increasing their training volume, only to find that it beats them up, their lifts start regressing, and they start losing motivation to go to the gym. So clearly low volume was the way to go, they’ve just hit their genetic ceiling and are in for a lifetime of hard-fought, incremental gains. Then they weep and drown their sorrows in cheesecake.
Let’s dissect this little (perhaps all-too-familiar) vignette:
1) The guy originally plateaued because he wasn’t increasing the stimulus to his muscles and nervous system. Remember the SAID principle (specific adaptations to imposed demands)? The demands didn’t change significantly, and eventually the guy’s body had adapted all it intended to. Sure, as he initially got stronger, the slightly heavier weights were a slightly greater stimulus, but his body finally reached the point that training was no longer disrupting homeostasis enough to elicit a response.
2) He dials back the volume and gets stronger! It’s a miracle! Or, it’s what happens when your body is used to adapting to a certain level of stress, then you dial back the stress and you body is still used to the same magnitude of response. It would help to look at training in the (overly simplified, but still instructive) light of simply tearing a muscle down and building it back up. Let’s say your muscle mass is currently 100%, and your training breaks it down 20%, and since you’re plateauing, you build it back up 20% between sessions: 100 – 20 + 20 = 100. Then you dial back how much you’re tearing your muscles down, but your body is used to recovering 20% between sessions: 100 – 17 + 20 = 103 – 17 + 20 = 106. However, the fun doesn’t last forever. Your body catches on to the game, and your recovery again aligns itself with the training stress: 106 – 17 + 17 = 106. Voila, another plateau.
3) When he tries to add back in more volume, his body is used to recovering from less per session. However, he’s still trying to train at maximum intensity: 106 – 20 + 17 = 103. He perceives himself as getting weaker, gives up on the whole enterprise, and cries manly tears.
Work capacity, in essence, increases the amount your body is used to recovering from. As it increases, you can increase your total training load, therefore the stimulus to your muscles and nervous system, therefore your results. There’s a catch, however. As you’re increasing your work capacity, you shouldn’t expect to be at peak performance (and certainly not PRing). PRs come when your recovery outpaces stress. The whole point of increasing work capacity is for stress to slightly outpace recovery until recovery catches up to the stress. Once you’ve increased your work capacity and allow recovery to catch up, you’re in a position where you’re able to tolerate much more volume, which means a greater stimulus, which means an increased potential for gains. Also, it gives you more ability to taper and hit PRs at meets. You know those guys who always hit their biggest lifts in training, but fail hard at meets? Typically, they’re the ones who never trained with high enough volume to get any significant supercompensation when they tapered.
Basically, increasing your work capacity over time is THE ONLY way to continually make gains. You can only say you’ve reached your genetic ceiling when you no longer have the ability to increase your work capacity.
So, that finally brings us back to the question: How does one actually go about increasing their work capacity? For a full, in-depth answer, I’d recommend you read Supertraining, some Zatsiorsky, some Verkhoshansky, or some Issurin. This answer is more based on implementation and strategies that have proven themselves effective over time.
There are several different ways. The one in the original question really isn’t a bad way to do it. Adding sets DOES increase work capacity. Let’s say you can do 3 sets of 3 with 315 on squat. What’s easier? Trying to go 325 3×3 (assuming you’ve exhausted your linear gains), or doing another single with 315 at the end? The single, obviously. Then a double the next session, then a triple the one after that. Once you could do 6-8 triples, you could drop back to 3 sets, and probably go 335 3×3 and do it all over again. That’s a 20-pound increase in about 2 months. Not too shabby. The key is that adding one rep per session isn’t all that taxing on your body over your established baseline. Then when you drop back to just 3 sets, it’s less volume than you’ve grown accustomed to, setting you up nicely for the subsequent re-ramping of the volume.
Another version of that same idea is the Doug Hepburn method. He’d pick a weight he could do 8 singles with and slowly add an extra rep to each set until he was doing 8 doubles, at which point he’d increase the weight and start over with singles again.
A more sophisticated way is the way Sheiko waves volume week to week, but always increases volume over time. A program for a ranked lifter (i.e. a novice) usually starts with a week that’s the exact “right” volume, based on where the trainee’s at. The second week has significantly more volume (overreaching), the third week dials back the volume a bit but raises the intensity, and the fourth week drops the volume and intensity, allowing for supercompensation. This same pattern basically holds true for months as well (the second month has crazy volume, the third is similar volume to the first but with higher intensity, and the fourth is a taper). Then, when you’d start over, you’d dive back in with slightly higher volume to continue to drive adaptation. Unfortunately, not all of Boris Sheiko’s writings have been translated into English, but you can see the progression from ranked lifter routines to CMS/MS routines, to MSIC routines. The volume increases incrementally as the lifter gets stronger until you’re on an MSIC routine that makes you want to cry just reading it.
Another way is to increase training density. Although this doesn’t increase your work capacity in the strictest of terms (total volume you can handle), it does increase your work capacity PER UNIT TIME, allowing you to supercompensate when you spread your sets back out. Let’s say you’re doing 5×5 with 315, and you’ve plateaued. You currently rest 5 minutes between sets. Next workout, just knock 15 seconds off your rest periods. Continue to do so each workout until you’re only resting 2 minutes between sets. You could probably then jump to 335 5×5 with 5 minutes between sets again. This method has the drawback of not increasing your total training volume which can make peaking for meets a little trickier, but it’s ideal for someone who doesn’t have room in their schedule to increase their weekly gym time.
Another way to increase work capacity is to add extra workouts. This method was popularized by Westside, and can be easily implemented (although what I’m about to say isn’t how they do it). Let’s say you squat 315 5×5 twice per week, and you’ve plateaued. Try adding in a third squat day. Start with 225 5×5. Just the simple act of practicing the motor patter more often MAY get your maxes moving again. However, 225 5×5 shouldn’t be enough to mess with your recovery. If anything, it would enhance recovery by promoting blood flow without inducing any more muscle damage. Add weight on your third squat day until it becomes difficult to get 315 5×5 on both of your main workouts (maybe 275-295 5×5). Then drop the third workout. You should be able to increase the working weight on your main training days. Then, slowly build back up the weight on your third squat day again, initially starting very light.
Finally, just something to keep in mind: Over time, your total training volume MUST increase. Most of these suggestions I’ve written about tell you ways to effectively wave volume and benefit from a short-term reduction in volume once you’ve acclimated to SLIGHTLY more volume. As you progress, BOTH the peak volume you’re handling and the reduced level of volume need to increase. So if you’re working from 3×3 to 6×3 now, eventually you’ll need to only drop back to 4×3 and increase to 7×3, then from 5×3 to 8×3, etc. If you’re adding a third workout to two 5×5 days, those days will need to eventually become 6×5 days, or 10×3 days, or some other loading pattern that adds up to more overall volume. The reason I gave examples of waving volume was that waving helps make the overall increase in volume over time easier to manage. If you’re plateaued doing 5×5, you can’t just start doing 8×5 and make progress forever (or at all). The way to add volume is to make the peak volume of a wave higher, and the reduced volume slightly more. That way, you’re never overreaching too far, you’re still giving yourself a break for supercompensation, and you’re gradually increasing the total magnitude of stimuli your body can handle, and therefore your potential for growth.
- [ ] Increasing work capacity really is the “secret” if ever there was one. The best lifters, over time, have simply developed the ability to do more work than anyone else, so they get better results than anyone else. Look at the Eastern Bloc PLers, successful nations in weightlifting, pro strongmen, and practically any other group of incredibly strong people for plentiful examples with surprisingly few exceptions.

Bāṛi - Chapter 11
Word Count: 1853
Warnings: language, anxiety, Negan
Summary: Sanctuary gathers to witness a punishment
A/N: late late late. no guarantees this won’t keep happening, though comments keep me motivated!
Masterlist
You were given a front row seat to watch the event to be taking place, though you managed to weasel your way back into the crowd a little bit. All the residents who arrived within the last few weeks didn't get that option. Negan wanted the new residents to be as close to the action as possible, making sure they explicitly understand what it means to break the rules.
Taking center stage was the man himself, rambling on about said rules, repeating the mantra of how “the rules keep us alive”. Though, everything out of Negan’s mouth at this point was just white noise to your ears as your eyes refused to stray from who you've now learnt is called Roy. Likewise, Roy kept his sight on you, only looking away whenever Negan turned his way.
You refused to let the man intimidate you. It was by his own doing that he was in this position now and you were not going to feel guilty over it.
Well, that was easier said than done.
As much as you wanted to look away from the brutality in front of you, you owed it to yourself to keep watching. Whatever the circumstances, you are the reason why this is taking place today and it would be an insult to yourself and Negan to turn away, no matter how callous or painful it may be.
You didn't look away when Negan took Lucille and brought her down on Roy’s left forearm, mirroring where you were now bruised.
You didn't shield your ears as Roy’s groans of pain turned into screams of pure agony and anguish.
The sound of your own heartbeat beating in your ears was almost enough to drown out his cries as he tried to crawl away from Negan’s relentless attack on his arm. Almost.
You watched on as Roy made a pathetic attempt at shielding his arm as he shuffled backwards on his arse away from Negan, only to be kicked back into the proverbial lion’s den by Dwight, allowing Negan to continue his assault.
Once he was satisfied Lucille had done her job, she was handed over to Simon so that his fists could have their turn, this time aiming for Roy’s face.
Roy looked so fucking helpless as the powerful being that is Negan battered his face to the point where he became unrecognisable, before finally ceasing his attack. Once Negan stood to his full height, breath heavy, he gave one last kick to balls for good measure before turning to address the crowd again.
And, again, it was all just white noise to your ears as you took in the damage done to Roy.
His arm was a mangled mess, bleeding in places where Lucille’s barbs had ripped his skin right off. You also realise, from the unnatural swaying of the limb, that at one point his shoulder had dislocated from the force of the blows. Already, his face was starting to swell in places, but there was too much blood rushing from his nose and a cut on his eyebrow to see much else.
When Fat Joey and Dwight grabbed Roy off of the ground and dragged his, surprisingly, still conscious body out of the hall, it suddenly registers that everyone had been dismissed and were slowly making their way back to whatever it was they were doing before they were summoned to watch the punishment.
Curious, you turned towards the newest residents, wanting to see their reactions since, like you, they had not had the pleasure of witnessing such scenes before. Surprisingly, though most didn't know each other as they had arrived separately, they were all bearing expressions of utter contempt as they exchanged looks between each other, before schooling their features and going their separate ways. A few briefly glanced your way, making you wonder if they knew you were the reason for Roy’s beatdown.
You don't get to ponder that thought for long as your view is suddenly obstructed by a wide chest.
“You okay?” At first glance, Negan looked as though he wasn't all that bothered about whether you were doing alright, considering the events, but his furrowed brow and slightly narrowed eyes gave away his concern.
You stare back, slightly confused, until you take note of your heavy breathing. Glancing down, you see that your hands are shaking quite aggressively, causing you to clench them at your sides in an attempt to calm yourself.
How long had that been happening?
You can only muster up a shaky nod, making Negan let out a frustrated sigh as he turns away.
“C’mon. We’ve still got work to do.”
Wishing for this day to just be fucking over, you grudgingly follow Negan out of the hall and up to the office.
Negan had you spend the evening going over more inventory lists, these ones belonging to his different outposts, before joining you on the floor at your little table to make a masterlist of all of his supplies. You ended up having dinner together in the office as you sat side by side to work on how to distribute the supplies between the posts so that each group had enough to last them through winter, taking emergencies and outside factors into consideration. As you weren't very knowledgeable with weapons, Negan would go over those with Simon.
You were completely wiped out by the time you were finished. The notes and outlines you’d made would need some fine tuning, but for now you were done. So done, in fact, that while Negan did one final readthrough for the night, you ended up nodding off on his shoulder, practically dead to the world.
“You've got to be fucking kidding me!?”
Negan’s obnoxious shouting managed to rouse you from what was probably the deepest sleep you’d had since arriving at the Sanctuary, disorienting you slightly.
Turns out, Negan’s couch is a hell of a lot more comfier than your sorry excuse of a bed.
Sitting up, you rub the sleep from your eyes as you watch Negan pace in front of you, startling him when he turns to suddenly find you awake. That gets a laugh out of you, and Negan does his best to glare at you but you see the corner of his lips lift the slightest, taking the fire out of his stare.
“Sorry, boss, but one of them has a baby.” your eyes widen as you register what the unknown Savior on the other end of the walkie has just divulged, lifting your gaze back to Negan who clenches the walkie in a white-knuckle grip.
“Fuck!” heaving a heavy sigh, Negan snaps at the poor Savior, “send ‘em up with Simon and Dwight.”
Negan doesn't even wait for a reply before tossing the walkie in the drawer of his desk and dropping heavily into his chair.
You wait a few moments before tentatively asking, “more survivors?”
“Yep.”
“Is there room for more people?”
“What sort of grade-A asshole does it make me if I turn away a baby ‘cause there's no room?”
“True.”
You didn't have to wait long before Dwight led five prospective residents into the office, with Simon bringing up the rear.
Like some of the newbies before them, this lot were in pretty good shape, with the three men packing bulging muscles on their tall frames and the two women, while lean, had hard, toned bodies from fighting to survive all these years. And, sure enough, in the arms of the blonde woman was a bundled up baby.
At probably no more than eight months old, the little boy was the cutest little shit you’d seen in a very long time. His large, brown eyes were taking in everything, his little head bobbing all around as he kept finding something new to set his sights on. While he may have been cute, the little guy was loud as he continued to cry out for who the hell knows what. The woman was trying her best to shush the boy as he continued to cry crocodile tears and take in his new environment at the same time.
She didn't look like she had a maternal bone in her body as she awkwardly held onto the boy while kneeling with the rest of the group in front of Negan. To your surprise, rather than bark at the woman to shut the child up, Negan proceeded to lift the baby into his arms and pace around the group while giving his usual speech, albeit a little louder to be heard over the shrieking.
When that still didn't work and you were sure your eardrums were just about ready to shatter, Negan surprised you even further by offering the boy to you.
You tried to contain the glee as you eagerly took the baby in your arms, walking around the office and cooing gently. You listened halfheartedly as Negan questioned the group about the baby.
“His mom was part of our group, as were some others, but when our camp got overrun, she was one of the people that didn't make it.”
“We managed to save Lucas before a shambler got him.”
“That was about a month ago.”
“We've just been looking for somewhere he’ll be safe at, so he can get to be a kid.”
“Least he deserves with how things are now.”
You managed to calm Lucas down by softly singing him a lullaby, though that adorable little pout remained as he looked up at you with watery eyes, pulling at your heartstrings.
You always did love kids. Growing up in a big family meant there were constantly babies running around, you'd even lost count of how many cousins you had. It had been so long since you'd seen something as innocent and pure as a baby in this world where death and destruction was around every corner that you suddenly felt a lump at your throat and found yourself forcing yourself not to cry. It all became increasingly overwhelming, and so you turned back to the conversation in an attempt to distract yourself.
Turning, you find that the group had risen to their feet, watching you curiously. Realising they were waiting on you to hand the baby back, you blushed and looked anywhere but the many eyes on you as you placed Lucas back in the blonde woman’s arms.
Once the group had followed Dwight out, you could hear Lucas begin to act out again, his cries carrying through the corridor and Negan’s office door. Turning back to Negan, you find that he’s already watching you with a strange look on his face. You look away and fiddle with your fingers, slightly embarrassed, though you’re not too sure why, before looking back again when he addresses you.
“Take an hour, sweetheart. Got some things to discuss with Simon.”
Wasting no time, you nod your understanding before quickly making your way out of the office, intent on using your hour to shower and get some breakfast in you.
Though, you can't help but wonder what exactly Negan and Simon need to discuss seemingly so urgently.

The wrestling beef between Seth Rollins and Will Ospreay, explained
This is all so dumb.
Real life conflict between professional wrestlers is nothing new, but the past 48 hours on Twitter have given us the dumbest, most nonsensical beef between WWE’s Seth Rollins and New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Will Ospreay that the whole thing is already reaching the height of ridiculousness.
What began as seemingly harmless banter has evolved into insults, bank account comparisons and merchandise opportunities. The entire thing doesn’t serve anyone, and does more harm than good in the long run, and yet it just keeps going.
How this all began.
WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins was defending his title against Baron Corbin at the WWE Stomping Grounds pay per view on Sunday night, a show which fans expected very little out of. Poor ticket sales and an underwhelming card let to horrible expectations — but all in all it was an entertaining show. Except for one match: The main event featuring Rollins.
It wasn’t the performer’s fault. The match was over-hyped on TV and promised a “special guest referee” as its main point of curiosity. Fans became irate when it was revealed that Lacey Evans was the surprise, and while I’ll spare you why this made sense from a story perspective, it definitely let fans down. The end result was a middling match with a disconnected crowd chanting “boring,” “CM Punk” and “AEW” as a result.
Hyping the event, Rollins called it “the best pro wrestling on the planet,” and made a bold proclamation.
Doubling down. Best pro wrestling on the planet. See that Cruiserweight Triple Threat? And that’s just one night, one match amongst the many. Find anyone else alive who does what I do as well as I do it as often as I do it. Ya can’t. #WWEStompingGrounds #UniversalChampion @WWE
— Seth Rollins (@WWERollins) June 23, 2019
It’s here where Ospreay enters the story. The current IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, Ospreay is regarded as one of the best wrestlers on the planet who isn’t signed to WWE. He took exception to Rollins saying he was the greatest in the world and it took just two words to set everything off.
I’m alive. https://t.co/l7zxy5yHY9
— ᵂⁱˡˡ ᴼˢᵖʳᵉᵃʸ • ウィル・オスプレイ (@WillOspreay) June 24, 2019
It’s unclear whether Ospreay meant it as a direct shot at Rollins following the poorly received main event, or whether it was a matter of circumstance — but Rollins didn’t take kindly to Ospreay disagreeing with him, especially while negative reviews of his match rolled in.
Ahhhh I’m sorry little guy. We already have a better version of you here and he just won his first US Title tonight (Congrats @KingRicochet). Keep working hard though buddy! https://t.co/JwB36iWaIg
— Seth Rollins (@WWERollins) June 24, 2019
Rollins’ condescending, dismissive response to a beloved wrestler seemed wholly out of left field — but it makes sense in the context of what transpired. Rollins probably shouldn’t have logged on for a couple of days, but here we are.

— ᵂⁱˡˡ ᴼˢᵖʳᵉᵃʸ • ウィル・オスプレイ (@WillOspreay) June 24, 2019
Ospreay let it sit for a couple of hours before clapping back again, this time at the notion that he hasn’t worked as hard to get where he has, than Rollins or anyone else on the WWE roster.
Fact of the day: Will Ospreay wrestled more matches in 2019 THAN @WWERollins Catch up little guy pic.twitter.com/GH9ywGGGlm
— ᵂⁱˡˡ ᴼˢᵖʳᵉᵃʸ • ウィル・オスプレイ (@WillOspreay) June 25, 2019
To which Rollins decided the best route would be to go with the “I MAKE MORE MONEY THAN YOU” defense.
I mean if you wanna talk numbers we can compare bank accounts too. P.S. That’s counting a month off with a broken back... buddy.
— Seth Rollins (@WWERollins) June 25, 2019
You love adding stuff don’t ya. I mean the original question was “Find anyone else alive who does what I do as well as I do it as often as I do it” No talk of money. No talk of Ricochet. You said anyone. Here I am. Just as consistent, just as good. Hope the back heals up. https://t.co/dfwkKVlyR4
— ᵂⁱˡˡ ᴼˢᵖʳᵉᵃʸ • ウィル・オスプレイ (@WillOspreay) June 25, 2019
It’s at this point the back-and-forth should probably have ended. It would have been a little spat between two guys, but then in came Baron Corbin with the grace, wit and timing of a Baron Corbin.
More important fact Baron Corbin has wrestled more matches in 2019 THAN Will Ospreay. Another fact I don’t actually know who you are I just wanted to be apart of the convo. https://t.co/GE2ZVKCbg5 pic.twitter.com/koiNEf1ljO
— Baron Corbin (@BaronCorbinWWE) June 25, 2019
Seth Rollins talking smack is one thing. He’s a guy who pushed through the independent wrestling scene to earn his spot, and knows what it’s like to sacrifice for the business. On the other hand there’s Baron Corbin, who left the NFL to get a developmental contract in WWE and has been pushed to main event status when almost nobody thinks he deserves it, which led to ...
No wonder Raw sucks. https://t.co/WwBqvSpwdF
— ᵂⁱˡˡ ᴼˢᵖʳᵉᵃʸ • ウィル・オスプレイ (@WillOspreay) June 25, 2019
Then Chris Jericho got involved too and this whole this is making my head hurt.
Umm.... He’s actually taller and bigger than you. Just sayin. #devilsadvocate https://t.co/IMKdSwz8kM
— Chris Jericho (@IAmJericho) June 25, 2019
Ospreay decided to jump on the attention and launch a new line of shirts, because why not?

— ᵂⁱˡˡ ᴼˢᵖʳᵉᵃʸ • ウィル・オスプレイ (@WillOspreay) June 25, 2019
Here’s why this is all so dumb.
This back and forth transcends simple beef solely because of the people involved. Rollins dragged himself into a fight with Will Ospreay for no good reason, which is whatever — people do dumb things. However, this is so much worse because of what it represents for Rollins.
Rollins has made a trade of being a true “wrestler,” one of the good ones. He’s not only WWE Universal Champion, but the company’s premiere babyface (good guy). One of the reasons fans like him so much is that he’s an amazing performer with a tireless work ethic, but also because a bulk of the fans know his story. They’ve followed him through the independent scene when he wrestled as “Tyler Black,” and have carried that torch through to being the face of the biggest company in professional wrestling.
This is what makes it so shocking and unnecessary for him to go after Ospreay. Wrestling fans don’t exist in a vacuum. Many watch other promotions too and appreciate Ospreay as well. Picking a fight that didn’t need to take place only serves to make Rollins look petty, especially when it comes to trying to compare checkbooks.
Furthermore, it’s ridiculous to denigrate Ospreay considering that by all accounts he’s turned down WWE before. The money isn’t the motivating factor for him. Ospreay wants to stay in New Japan because he enjoys it, so making a “I have more money” clap-back only serves to make Rollins look like an arrogant bully — and remember, he’s supposed to be a good guy.
Nah dawg, let me dial it up. I’ve sat back and watched idiots with no clue talk poorly about the place I dedicate my life to EVERY HOUR OF EVERY DAY. The level I perform at on constant is untouchable. Time to let em know. https://t.co/9wISLrevCr
— Seth Rollins (@WWERollins) June 24, 2019
Rollins’ frustration at fans is palpable, and it’s understandable. However, he’s missing the point that much of the ire wrestling fans direct at WWE isn’t towards its performers, but rather its storytelling, management and booking (how matched take place). When fans chant “boring” there’s no doubt it’s upsetting for those in the ring, but it’s often a larger indictment of everything fans are seeing — not simply a claim that the people wrestling aren’t doing a good job.
After all, it’s a lot easier to chant “boring” than “I would really prefer these wrestlers were used in stories more effectively so I could care more about their in-ring performance.”
There’s also blame on Ospreay for escalating this too, and it makes no sense for him to burn potential bridges in the future over something this petty. In the pantheon of dumb sports beefs this one is right up there, but now it’s on Rollins not only to squash this before it gets even worse, but find a way to re-ingratiate himself to fans who feel burned by him going after another amazing performer.
What a mess.

HEY NAT NAT BEN BEN WHAT ABOUT TORCHWOOD 🔥🔥🔥
I feel personally targeted. And I want that in writing.
Okay here goes nothing. *Rolls up sleeves*.
Warning: Will likely evolve into a long, in-depth, Torchwood analysis
Favourite Character:
I’m half asleep as it is and you go and encourage me to talk about Ianto Jones, who is not only my favourite character in this show, but probably overall.
The question is, can I pinpoint why?
Can I articulate how much this character genuinely means to me without just giving up and keyboard smashing at like 2am?
Okay, to start with, he’s not in the first two series an awful lot, however much I try to convince myself otherwise, but the development he does get is credit-worthy. And I think from the start, I was won over by his priceless expressions, sarcastic humour and sweet demeanour. Yet, throughout my numerous rewatches, the occasional bleaker episode, and low-key audio addiction, I’ve learned that there is more than meets the eye and maybe that's what makes him so interesting to me- All characters have more to them that originally assumed but there’s so many aspects to Ianto’s personality that slowly reveal themselves that you cant possibly know everything. You keep on learning and wondering about his past, his motivations, his true feelings- I’ve seen on countless occasions people labelling him as overrated and simply seen as that outside innocent coffee boy (sure, its the button on the top), but I think his clear popularity could be because a lot of people, dare I say, relate to him?
One of my favourite things about the Doctor Who universe especially and, in turn, Torchwood, is that it is real, it has real characters who have real emotions and real flaws, which shouldn't be excluded as they only add to their human degree of complexity- what would the series be without returning home to a concerned Jackie Tyler for a cup of tea every once in a while? without seeing characters reach behind that innate curiosity at the science-fiction and occasionally express fear at what is uncomfortable and unknown?
Doctor Who is not about aliens, it’s about people- and Ianto Jones is no exception. And in some ways, he can be the most human of them all- his excitement and confidence when he’s viewed as Jack’s boyfriend, his maintained calm exterior that he chooses to present to the world, his friendship with Tosh and the others, his weird habits and his humour, right up until his brutally heartfelt death scene.
Ianto Jones is one of the only characters that I am sure will remain this close to my heart, and I constantly switch between connecting to him and marvelling at how much more there is to see. Not to be too deep or over-exaggerated, but under everybody's excitable obsessions with TV shows, bands, books- there's something that genuinely helped them learn more about themselves and grow as a person behind it, they represent a certain time in that individuals life and that has to be appreciated- in the same way, that can be said for my attraction to Torchwood as a whole and towards Ianto as a character.
Second Favourite Character:
Now that we’ve accepted me as a high-key, over-the-top teenaged fan, hence somehow continuing reading, let’s move on to the impossible choice of, who do I prefer more: Toshiko Sato, Owen Harper or Jack Harkness? (I’ll mention my Gwen angst later).
Firstly Jack, will always, in my eyes, be one of the most deep and fascinating characters from what I’ve seen of the franchise as a whole- the contrast between the self-assured and flirtatious alien, the darker side of his immortality, and even the earlier con-man interpretation of his endlessly gripping character. Some of my favourite aspects of him in Torchwood are when we see him through his own outlived eyes; his loneliness or anger or even fragility, the latter being especially in regards to his relationship with Ianto and his over-arching knowledge that nothing lasts for him. And while he will always be one of my favourite characters in general, this one is a close call and I regret to view him as anything less than such- but I’m gonna have to go with Owen.
But first, let me appreciate Tosh- underestimated, brave, intelligent and affectionate Tosh, who is so close to Owen in terms of my tribute, it was near impossible to choose between the pair- in fact it still is and if asked this another time I would probably change my mind repeatedly. She tries so hard to gain approval and security, she's just genuinely lovable...and she did good.
I know Owen- apparently I’m having an Owen day- is disliked by the best of us in season 1, and some still after, I mean he is outwardly an arsehole, he's even aware of such, and the way he treats others including Tosh is inexcusable- but it’s season 2 where I genuinely fell in love with him, if not, mid-way through the first season after seeing the affects of Diane’s departure and his more sensitive self. Because like I said before- these human qualities, however negative, only add to him as a character.
When all the ‘dying drama’ goes down we realise how truly fragile he is, and in Fragments we see this to an even greater extent pre-torchwood: he's had a bad time of it, to say the least. And I will place him in second place after Ianto primarily due to this drastic turn and the realisation that he is such a prime example of ‘messed up and imperfect yet completely misunderstood’ and deep down, one of the most sensitive and caring of the lot.
I especially love when he begins to open up to Tosh and the numerous scenes in ‘a day in the death’ such as running into the bay or Ianto telling him to not let himself get beaten after all he has done, and that's also why that is one of my favourite episodes- I love this side of his character and how it contributes to him on the whole.
Character I’m Most Like:
God. Okay.
I honestly think this has to be the shortest reply yet. And for all the explanations worth, it has to be Ianto. Owen is angsty as hell, Tosh is kind and smart, Jack is tired, above everything and Gwen is adamant and sociable-
Ianto is humorous and loyal.
-Yet, somehow has the potential to be all of the other things too, and at times, has been. Which only furthers my previous point of him being relatable to most viewers at certain times throughout because of that.
Favourite Pair:
Now we’re talking.
There’s a word, a cursed, ancient term that’s been floating around the internet for a while now....: Janto.
Typical romance story, boy meets boy, boy is immortal alien, boy falls in love with welsh nerd who looks good in a waistcoat, the usual, yet...
Next, the heavy stuff :)
Ianto has so much love to give and he chooses to give it to Jack. His last serious relationship ended in tragedy and he finds himself in a casual fling with this, said immortal alien guy, who’s also...his mysterious boss. He appears genuinely happy and confident for the first time in a while and his utter joy will purify souls for many years to come.
But it’s not that simple, is it? It never has been. Because it gets serious and they can escape into their own connection outside of their work and all the other crap the team go through. They begin to understand each other on a deeper level despite their differences- and it’s fated to end in disaster: Ianto’s death.
One of the most heart-breaking yet beautiful and bittersweet factors of the show is this relationship. The most traumatic realisations? moments when Ianto acknowledges his mortality compared to Jacks curse to out-live everybody he loves (The dead line and Day 4, I’m looking at you). Maybe it’s on Jacks behalf that the extent and importance of their bond get highlighted- He unwillingly falls for Ianto and he in no way wants to recognize the unwavering sincerity of what they have, or at least publically, hence his hesitance when Ianto is proud to be seen as a couple at the beginning of Children Of Earth, because he doesn’t want to see something so good end and hurt him, again.
Also, the fact that their relationship is so private? It’s got a significant part to play when prompting the importance of what they have. Jack is characteristically flirty and outgoing, yet he keeps his feelings for Ianto close and guarded- because they mean that much to him. All of their intimate conversations- they're alone. It just develops and adds meaning and weight to their taboo ending.
That inevitably brings me onto the unspeakable death scene. I can wholeheartedly say that I have never witnessed such an emotional scene where a character has been killed off? It just, it gets to you? and I probably don't need to say that twice.
I don’t even know what it is, and I don’t care about the ‘he should never have been killed off’ or ‘he died for nothing’, god I want him to live as much as anybody, but they did choose to kill him off- and it was art.
The entirety of COE was, it was horrific and too close for comfort and one of the best pieces of television that I will ever have the pleasure to watch. Because it is raw and it’s soulful and it’s real and it breaks you- and god I wouldn’t want one of my favourite characters to go in any other way than something with this level of reputation and emotion.
The way Jack falls onto the floor next to Ianto, the ballad of Ianto Jones playing, the bigger picture of the theme of the series, them out of their comfort zone, beyond their control, influencing this, the government officials overlooking such an intimate moment, the way Jack tells them 'not him’ (that’s where I loose it, god I’m choked up just thinking about it), after Ianto tried to be the hero and stand next to Jack and help him confront the mistakes of his past- showing him that he's there for him when others doubt him, showing him that he can change and resolve it with him by his side, yet seeing that their efforts do not directly succeed? its not showing Ianto died with no final influence, its to show the extent of the bigger issue, it is out of their hands and that's why Children Of Earth is so, for want of a better word, scary- Gwen relating this degree of destruction to the absence of our established hero, The Doctor- terrifying.
How Jack wakes up and sees Ianto, how the audience see this character they've grown to love, dead, how defeated Jack looks with the knowledge that he will have to move on and can’t do anything about what had happened- it is seriously too much and can anybody who is that deeply connected to a scene, really hate on it for whatever reason?
God Jack blames himself, God Torchwood was the death of me-
you know I watched Children Of Earth over the evening of Christmas Eve and early Christmas morning? I watched Ianto Jones die on Christmas day 2015. Yeah.
Least Favourite Pair:
What the ever loving shit is Gwack.
(I like how you tiptoed around this Evie, and I just-)
Okay. I don't like Gwen.
Now hear me out, I don't like her in the first and second series. She was a cheat and I accept this as part of her character, and Owens, but it doesn't mean I have to ignore or like it- she also treat the others like they didn't understand, like they couldn't feel and aren't affected by what they see like she is when they've been through so much more in terms of their background- she is rash and selfish and Rhys deserved better.
There I said it- however, it is party due to the writing, she had a lot of potential but she can’t be treated as such a ‘nice’ or relatable character and role model, as the person who enters this alien world for the audience to relate to when she gets away with these things. But I’ll hold my hands up and says she grows up a lot come COE and in the books and audios.
Despite my feelings about Gwen- she has still got a boyfriend either way. No offence, meh, ish, but there is nothing between her and Jack romantically- if anything she merely represents the normal life that Jack cant have. The many, many, uncomfortable scenes when she stares at Jack while kissing Rhys, the flirting with who she thought was him on her wedding day, the part where he's teaching her how to shoot, its just that, its awkward and there's nothing to it. Why voluntarily choose to treat her as this person who uses people and makes excuses for herself when you can emphasise and focus on her other truly good qualities like her bravery?
Why dig for something that isn't there, they have a great friendship, why simplify that? he mentors her and she has Rhys, he has Ianto, there's so much depth to that relationship as I've been through, why choose to overlook it?
But ‘don't like’ isn't as strong a word as ‘hate’, I just don't understand why somebody would make it this hard to view her as redeemable- I know she is flawed, like the others- I just find it harder avoid and grasp why people want to further those parts of her and view it in a positive light and accept or ignore her cheating.
Gwen, I can hesitantly can get on board with, she is still part of the show I love, and while I can’t admit forgiving her I can say that her character, in turn, deserved better and while I acknowledge the problems she has, I appreciate her in COE, etc, because she does begin to develop and prove herself a bit more.
Nonetheless, I will never ‘get’ Jack and Gwen, it just doesn't rub me up the right way and seems pointless, it seems like ‘bait’ that some fans have fallen for and for me, it takes away so much of all of the characters involved and I’d rather view them for who they are rather than hinting at a negative version of who they could be.
And I'm sorry but Gwen and Owen are just bad for each other- they both deserve better than that.
Owen and Tosh? Beautiful and they should have gotten that date, they know each other so well and their death scene- why is this show so traumatic. But don't even get me started on that one-
‘Because you’re breaking my heart.’
Favourite Moment (s):
To be blunt:
Day 4- Ianto dies, yes really, #1, sorry...yeah..
Forehead Kiss, Forehead Kiss, Forehead Kiss, Forehead Kiss, (Janto, in Adam)
A Day In The Death- Owen underwater, also in top 3...
‘No, ‘cause the phones aren't working’,
Captain Jack Harkness- Jack & Jack Dance, close second
‘Who’s for Chinese?’ ft. actually eating it and having a nice time Tm
When, in fragments, Owen first enters the hub and he is talking to Jack about how he's going to try to save as many people as he can but it'll never be enough
I’m not sure of the episode, likely ‘A Day In The Death’, but Tosh and Owen have a talk, wait was it ‘Dead Man Walking?’...yeah it was...
Broken, audio- Yeah, that- the car scene where their relationship truly begins and ‘stop the car’, ‘my coffee.’
‘Space Pig, Yeah?’
Fragments- ‘Jones. Ianto Jones’. ‘Captain Jack Harkness’
Does the John Barrowman ringtone blooper count? ;)
Not to approach the unapproachable, and it's not my favourite ‘cause that's like twisted but- ‘the Steven thing’ deserves a mention just for the fact that Jacks expression will haunt me forever
‘The world’s always ending, and I have missed that coat’
Did I mention the entirety of COE?
A Torchwood Captain and an ex-time agent walk into a bar...
Virus short story, ending and the part where Ianto goes rogue and badass
The goodbye in COE- should have ended there, it lost its weight
Consider this: In the shadows audio- Ianto, he just-
‘The Sin Eaters’ audio, cat falls through lift, that's all you need to know really, isn't it?
‘house of the dead’ when its all over and somebody approached jack and he answers them but then they go away and he- ‘goodbye Ianto’
‘Gwen....mine’s got a bell’, ‘Jack and Coffee’, ‘Lost Souls, audio
Honestly I've probably forgotten moments that I mention 24/7 but these are the ones that come to mind
I warned you that it was gonna be an uncharacteristically long one
Rating:
10/10...
Did you expect anything else after all of that? For all its imperfections, this show will always welcome me back with open arms, I’ve taken so much from it and it will remain my favourite show along with Doctor Who itself.
Funny Story: 5am
I told you Evie, I did.

Word Count: 2,800ish
Chapter 7
Table of Contents
Chapter 9(link also at bottom)
When Lin had gotten on a plane bound for London, you were certain that you’d never see him again, you doubted you’d ever contact him again, and you found it unlikely he would even hold true to his offer of listening for better job openings for you to apply to. You were wrong on all accounts but one. Email became your friend once again as you talked to him while he was across the sea he would complain about this and that but then tell you a piece of overwhelmingly excited news and for the first few months there was a link to so a friend he had somewhere that had an opening for a job he thought you might want to take and you sent in your resume to all of them, you got more calls back than you had dreamed of.
You weren’t surprised when July came with a letter saying that you had been let go from the school. You got the letter the same day that you were due to set out for a fancy schmancy museum up north that seemed fairly promising. Knowing you weren’t going to have a check coming in anytime soon was worry some but motivated you all the more to exceed expectations and land this position. It had excellent opportunities for growth, it was by far better pay than what you made now even factoring in the higher cost of living, hopefully, it would be something you would do for a long time.
With a lovely letter that summed up to say “you’re out of a job,” on the counter, you threw your bag into your backseat and hit the road, a fifteen-hour drive to a fifteen-minute interview that hopefully would come through. You had a small hotel room booked in advance that you wouldn’t get to until 1am at best but it would be somewhere to sleep and then freshen up for the interview and wait at for the next three days while attending a few other promising interviews in the area. Lin promised that the people at all four for the places you had on this trip were relatively fast working and you would know if you’d made the cut within the week.
It was with confidence and hope fueled by reopened dreams you had all but abandoned that you had landed your job as a curator for the New York Historical Society. You had a week to get settled here before you started. It turned out to be more of an overpaid intern position beneath the real curators, but you would grow and prosper here. When you got the call saying you had the job it was disheartening to realize that you didn’t have anyone to share the good news with. All you did was send an email to the friend who got you here, a friend probably asleep due to time zone differences, a friend who now that he had fulfilled his promise to listen for an opening for you would fall out of touch. But it was a friend for now and that knowledge only strengthened your resolve to make this new position in this new city something you would share with others
“T 23 15, ivory and ink, hand-crafted maybe late 18th-century cup, 3 cm tall five cm diameter at rim and base seven cm diameter at largest,” you looked at the small sketch you had made beside the location and description biting your lip. You had been trying to find this piece for a good twenty minutes, it wasn’t on the shelf it was supposed to be, not the entire case that it might be, you’d gone down the case in front of, behind, to the left, and the right of where it was supposed to be just in case it had been originally put in the wrong place but now you were going to have to add it to the list of artifacts that you would have to look for when you searched the entire room top to bottom for items that had been completely misplaced.
Three years you’d been in the city, two and a half years you’d fit in with your coworkers and enjoyed life, two years without talking to anyone but them - people from your teaching days had faded out of your life just like people from college had. Almost immediately.
“Hey Y/N, we’re all headed out for lunch today, you coming?” Tanya called popping her head in, she had become one of your best friends quickly and easily.
“Ummm I’m actually a bit behind, who’s turn is it to stay today?” You asked, “Joe right?” she nodded, “Tell him I’ll cover him today if he’ll take it from me next time,” you offered and she gave you a thumbs up, before darting out the door while you went back to inventory. There were so many amazing things here and they were always rotating in and out so there was always more to find. You thought that the idea of enjoying your job was nothing more than that, an idea, but you were wrong. You enjoyed coming to work every day, when you skipped going with friends to lunch it wasn’t because if you left you would be miserable the whole time knowing you had to come back, it was because you didn’t want to leave. Of course, there were downsides, but you loved enough of it that those didn’t matter. You had a routine and you were happy with it.
Looking back at your clipboard you began looking for the next item which was where it belonged thankfully. As were the next several, you had gotten back into your rhythm when you heard the bell over the door jingle, they shouldn’t be back so soon,
“Hello, is anyone in here?” you heard someone call, not many people knew about this door,
“Yes, I’ll be with you in just a moment,” you told them wondering who was using the back door that didn’t already know the place like the back of their hand.
“How can I help you today?” You asked as you rounded the corner,
“Yes I was wondering if-,”
“Lin?” you gasped in shock when you looked up at his face for the first time and he looked you over in confusion for half a second before you found yourself engulfed in a smothering hug, “oh my,” you yelped in shock but hugged him right back
“Y/N? I can’t believe you’re here, what’re you doing? How’ve you been? Are you-”
“Woah one question at a time, I can’t handle three years of questions in one breath,” you said pulling out of his hug, he smelled exactly like you remembered,
“God I’ve missed you,“
“Same here, wow three years. Doesn’t feel like three years,” he said blinking rapidly
“It feels like just a minute has passed but at the same time, I was teaching down south at least a lifetime ago, maybe two. What’re you doing here? Last time we talked you were finishing up in London and off to work in animated films - getting an EGOT with that. Hell, you were sponsoring on toothpaste and cereal commercials for a while and then you just stopped. Fell off the face of the earth. What happened for almost two years that had you hiding in some sort of underground cave?”
“You can ask me to sum up, three years in one breath but I can’t ask that of you? That’s not fair, I’m wounded,” he teased and you rolled your eyes, “If you must know, I’ve been doing research and writing,”
“How many months worth of paychecks is it going to take for me to get tickets?” You sighed,
“I don’t have any idea yet, but how are you doing?”
“Pretty great, I’ve actually fallen in love with the city and the job and, you’re going to be proud of me, they’ve got me playing at charity dinners and things, and wait for it,” you paused, “Introductions, presentations singing and playing in the background, the whole nine yards,” suddenly your feet were off the ground and behind you spinning, “Lin! Put me down,” you laughed, smacking his shoulder as he spun you,
“I am so happy for you, that’s wow,” he paused and seemed to think for a second, “You wouldn’t happen to be playing at a ceremony Thursday night would you?” you narrowed your eyes,
“Actually, I am, the coordinator of the ceremony is supposed to come in later today,” he grinned wide at your answer, “Why,” he pursed his lips trying to suppress a smile and shook his head, “Lin-Manuel what is going on in that brain of yours?”
“Later today might be sooner than you thought,” he said and your eyes went wide as you looked around frantically as if someone was going to suddenly appear from behind one of the many artifact shelves, you hurriedly patted your hair down and straightened your shirt that Lin’s hugs had wadded up,
“What? I can’t mess this up Kathrine’ll kill me if I lose this one, its some big deal hotshot that we need to keep things going and not get wiped off the pages. Some guy probably filthy rich probably so full of himself he can’t see right from left” you groaned in frustration and he laughed heartily at your worry,
“I think you’ll be okay, You’re such a goof,” he said, “’sometime after 11′,” it’s almost 12, isn’t it?” he checked,
“What? They’ll be here sometime after 1,” you ran over to the computer that was at least as old as some of the objects in the back of this room, “Nononono,” you groaned, “the screen’s fuzzy I misread it Oh god ah okay Lin,” you took a deep breath and shook your head, “Okay sorry, I’m a mess. What did you come in here for in the first place?”
“To talk about a ceremony Thursday night,” it clicked in your mind all at once and you wanted to melt into a puddle on the floor
“You can’t be serious,”
“as a heart attack,”
“I uh..oops?” you giggled, “can we forget that I said anything? Like pretnd you just walked in the door and I didn’t stereotype the no-name leader of Thursday Nights ceremony at all?”
“Oh you mean the pat where I’m rich and so full o myself I can’t see up from down,” you thought he was joking but you were very hesitant and unsure,
“yes?”
“I don’t have any idea what you are talking about, I just got here,” he told you smiling and you breathed a heavy sigh immensely relieved to know that you hadn’t just ruined everything.
“So anyway, I got called in to do something because of Hamilton again, and it’s lost a bit of its hype, not much but some so why not? Plus I might be planning a bit of a surprise like one I did a while back,” he grinned, "You know how I promoted Hamilton at The White House when I was supposed to do something for Heights,”
“You are not!”
“Oh I am so!” his smile was infectious, “But you can’t tell anyone - it’s gonna be a surprise and if I chicken out I don’t want people hounding me about it,”
“You’re not going to ‘chicken out,’” you promised, “Now that you’ve told me this, you’re stuck,” you stuck your tongue out at him, "If you want to sit down we can go ahead and start going over the plan for Thursday night, it needs to run with as few hitches as possible, you’re going to throw it off a bit if I’m the only one allowed to know about your plan of change of plans but no fucks given, next order of business would be the order of introductions, we have a pretty standard template of order of importance but…” and just like that you managed to get down to business and plan out the evening,
“That sounds perfect. I don’t think a meeting like this has gone this smoothly in…I don’t even know how long. What are my chances of having lunch with you now, to catch up and interrogate you?” he asked and you smiled,
“Everyone else should be getting back from lunch any minute now, it was supposed to be Joe’s day to stay back and watch over stuff back here but I offered to stay instead,” you said, “But how would dinner sound?” and he nodded,
“I was planning on meeting up with a bunch of old friends tonight, that’d be excellent,”
“Great, I can’t wait,” he wrapped you in a short hug that lasted only a few seconds, you both already pulling back when Tanya and the others came in all laughing until they froze in the doorway seeing the two of you locked in a hug,
“Well, it was really nice seeing you again,” you said your face scarlet red, as you looked between Lin and your coworkers
“Yeah, back atcha Socrates,” he said and hurried out the door,
“What. Was. That?” Tanya asked,
“That was an old friend who helped me land this job in the first place dropping by for a visit…and to go over the plans for Thursday night,” you told her as calmly as you could in your flustered state, the others had all scattered almost instantly but would hound you later.
“Y/N, you were broken when you came here, you never said that the Lin that you were friends with that had told you about this job that had faded from your life leaving you dead inside was the Lin-Manuel Miranda. I don’t want to see you like that again,” you tried to protest, you weren’t broken, and even if you had been, it wasn’t because of him in the least, “I mean it, be careful, Thursday night is a big deal for us, important people will be there, important people with deep pockets,” you knew what she meant by that all too well: money was always what things boiled down to in any business and boy could you use some of it right now,
“I’ll be fine, we’re just two good friends that have found ourselves working on a project together. I’m meeting him and a bunch of friends tonight for dinner. Friends.” you stated as many times as you logically could.
“Just come home alive, okay?” she asked, “If you come to work next week like a dead zombie because of him I will personally see to it that he doesn’t get another gig as long as he lives, And don’t you fall for him again tonight, you better be sober and chipper tomorrow morning or I will get Katherine to pull both of you out of the banquet ceremony on Thursday,”
“Yes mom,” you mocked
“Good. Now then, inventory.” Tanya was your best friend. You knew that she only had your best interests at heart and she was right. You couldn’t let yourself get involved with him again because he needed to chase his dreams all over the planet and you just couldn’t do that. You needed a stable environmnet where you knew what was going on and that just wasn’t something you owuld be able to have if for whatever reason old flames re sparked. But it was only a short fling before and besdies, it’s been three years. He probably found someone else and you had both moved on. He was your friend. That’s how it is and that’s how it is going to stay.
Chapter 9
So that’s not what I originally had in mind for “No Fucks given next,” I actually had an audition thing going on that was half-written mentally and I didn’t have any idea what to do, neither of the two characters in this series are likely to be in a particularly high risk situation.
