No, I don't have a weibo account. I use a website (computer is more optimal for managing files). As for the rest I may have some tips ✨

1. Basic navigating tips (I've learnt it like a lab monkey, by pushing buttons, idk chinese): #音乐剧时光代理人# is the tag for LC musical. 2 last tabs on a left matter the most. The play button is tab with videos, first filter (the orange one) is for most popular, the other is for most recent.

The one below play button, a photo, is for pictures. They show from the most recent ones and I think you can scroll through them freely.

*For more convenient browsing and a chance to find extra photos that weren't properly tagged I recommend visiting profiles that posted the pics.

*second tab, the speech bubble one, is for discussion I think, it's sometimes useful for audience reviews etc.

2. If you don't have an acc weibo limits your access to older videos (message belows tells you to sign in to see more)

So I visit this tab just to check if anything interesting happened in the most recent play.

3. Bilibili doesn't seem to limit your access to older content, so for browsing videos use the #音乐剧时光代理人# on Bilibili. You can google translate the website to figure out the layout options, then go back to chinese ver (you must view original ver for clips to show up) and explore from there.

*Tbh I don't keep up with the videos much bc it's all the encore from different days. If anything big happens I learn about it from the photos, then look for the clips from that particular performance.

4. Check @接着奏乐接着舞Musicals (official profile of the musical's company). They post summary clips and photos from the play as well as cast announcements.

5. Check the actors' weibo accounts. A post where I tag and link to all of main trio actors. THIS IS IMPORTANT (my secret of having 200+ pics of LG & CXS actors). I'll use Cai Qi's acc as an example:

a) Go on their weibo.

b) Copy and paste their weibo tag into the search bar.

c) Look for a post with photos of them (can be from other play, doesn't matter)

d) THIS! We're looking for this diamond-shaped tag symbol 🔍

e) Click it and you're home 😌:

f) (ok I have no idea what IS this diamond tag) BUT it looks like a verified vip account, that not all people can tag. I suspect it's something like 'pay to tag your idol'/'highlight my post to a tagged person' twitter subscription kind of thing idk. Edit: It's a person-specific tag, like #, not direct @. What matters is that it has ALL hardcore stans in one place, posting videos, fancams and photos of that one specific actor in chronological from most recent order. Sadly it also limits non-users to newer posts only.

g) For clips with the actor go to the second tab on the top.

h) Third tab is for images. You can browse through the minatures but won't be able to enlarge them without the acc. So go back to the first tab, scroll, find yourself a batch that you haven't seen before, like here and visit OP's profile. It's the most probable to stumble upon a theatre kid who's already been to the LC musical, so you can find more content on there.

i) Scroll until you find the post with photos, click one of them, and then the highlighted option to access the highest quality image aand there you have it ✨

j) If you scroll and reach a user-only limit without finding the post you saw under the vip tag, there's a roundabout way to this >>

k) Scroll back up, and go to the last tab. It's the image albums tab. Look for the album with the theatre/actor photos. It seems the albums have no recency limit, you can see older posts without weibo acc.

(I feel kinda creepy for digging through people's profiles, but I swear weibo seems public like twitter and I have a tunnel vision to find LC content only)

So that was probably a core difference by the way I look for these things ><' Hopefully I explained it well enough. The biggest disadvanages of this method is you're still able to access only the most recent posts. That's why I made bookmarks to check them everyday.

Another thing is that not all actors in LC musical cast have a well established stan community who would post in the vip tag. They mostly do, but actors like Du Guangyi, Cai Qi, Teng Chunpeng, Zhang Jiahao, Wu Yihan or Wang Minhui tend to overshadow the rest by a sheer amount of fan pictures :'>

A Tutorial:

How to create shadows for TS2 cc objects

You’ll need SimPe, 3D software like Milkshape or Blender 2.79b and 2D software like Photoshop or Gimp.  

First part is easy. I’ve described my process of creating a texture for TS2 cc object that already has a working shadow subset.

Second / more advanced part is not exactly a step-by step tut, but it contains various tips and explains what resources are required to create a shadow subset.

if you are reading this on my Tumblr, and you can’t enlarge pictures, try to right-click on a pic and “open in a new tab”. Or you can enlarge the page in your internet browser  [Ctrl] + [+]

First part of this tut is for objects that have all the required shadow resources, OR the only thing missing is the shadow model in GMDC.

* If your object already has a shadow and you are sure that UV-mapping is not off, you can import it instead of creating a new one.

When exporting the models as .obj in SimPe, you need to tick the box next to shadow model, if you’d like to export it as well (SimPe will only export ticked models !) Then click Export... button. 

Furniture clones have one groundshadow, and three or four vertical shadows - if that’s the case, I recommend you delete all shadows and create a new groundshadow plane. 

Oversized shadow models are the cause of sh*tty thumbnails. If some objects in your Decor catalogue are so tiny you can barely see them, here’s why.

Remember to move the shadow plane up a bit, so it’s very slightly above the ground level.

Make sure you can see your object in wireframe view. Display options for Milkshape can be accessed by right-clicking inside viewport window.

When creating a plane, drag the mouse starting from top left corner, so UV’s are not rotated.

Rename your plane: “shadow“ or “groundshadow” etc, so SimPe auto-adjusts settings for it on import.

Blender 2.79b: Use Plane button, located in “Create” Tab. Remember to tick the “Create UVs” option before you create the shape. Switch to top view by pressing 7 on the num pad, press 5 to enable isometric view.

Now you can use this as an imprint for shadow. Remember to leave a tiny margin of 100% white around it!

Gaussian Blur comes in handy ;)

You can (and it’s best that you DO) test your texture while you’re working on it.

Texture preview in Milkshape

Double-click the shadow plane in the Model tab. Go to Materials tab, click New button, then Assign. Click on the elongated button that says <None> (there are two of those, click the upper one) and load your texture. You can reload the texture by going to Edit menu, and Refresh textures.

If shadow looks off, you might need to rotate the plane 180* (or UVs, if you know how). 

 Blender 2.79b: I’ve described the quickest way to preview texture HERE.

Note1: you don’t have to save the image as PNG just to preview it, Milkshape (and Blender ofc) can read PSD files.

Note2: obviously, if you didn’t create your own shadow plane, and the one you have inside GMDC works fine, you don’t need to export it.

7., 8.

As I mentioned in the next pic, your .png has to be the same size as the shadow TXTR you’d like to replace. If you wish to change the shadow texture size, that’s described in the second part of this tut. Check out the pic 5 below.

9. Open SimPe and import new texture.

If you don’t “update all sizes” you’ll get funky effects in the game, shadows might change the shape or disappear when you zoom out.

Finished! Or almost finished.

If you’ve created your own shadow model (or edited the old one) there’s one more thing you need to do.

10. Import the shadow model into GMDC. If you don’t know how, look at the pic 1 below.

After you test the shadow in the game, and it’s too dark or not dark enough, you might want to edit the shadow intensity in SimPe - that’s super easy. Look at pic 3 below, in the second part of this tut.

Shadow tutorial, Part 2:

What to do if shadow resources are missing

Not a beginner level stuff, but if you are resourceful, have a go at it.

Shadow, as any other subset, requires a few resources to work properly: Model in the GMDC and shadow TXMT settings that point to the right texture. It’s also essential to link shadow subset (model name) to a TXMT through SHPE.

If a TXTR or TXMT resource is missing, you need to add it. You have 3 options:

link your model to TXMT resource from another package through SHPE. Useful if you do repo objects that are all the same shape, only different sizes.

clone existing non-shadow resources and customize them

add shadow resources extracted from another package and edit the CRES name part

And it’s a good practice to add shadow name to tsNoShadow in the GMND, so it doesn’t cast shadows when outdoors. But that’s optional.

1. & 2.

GMDC - How to import new .obj model, or replace the existing model.

GMND - How to fix square outdoor shadows.

Note: it’s not always stuff named “grounshadow” and such, that is the cause of square outdoor shadows. It could be something different, like lightpattern. You can preview subsets inside GMDC to check which one could be the culprit, then add missing subset name to GMND / tsNoShadow Items list. 

If you don’t know how to add new item to GMND blocklist - tutorials on repository technique for object add-ons etc always cover that bit.

Mesh Group Importer settings

When you click “Import..” button in GMDC and load .obj file, Mesh Group Importer window pops up. If you’ve never seen it before, take some time to explore the import options - Opacity, and Action both have drop down menus.

Changing Opacity to Shadow is a purely cosmetic effect. But if you keep it Opaque, shadow in the game will be highlighted when somebody moves design tool over the object ! 

Action menu options are pretty self-explanatory. If you’d like to replace existing model, set it to Replace. Then open drop-down menu in the bracket below and pick the right subset.

To change the name of the model after it’s been imported, go to Groups tab in GMDC, click on the shadow and edit the Name: field. Commit the changes and save.

3. & 4.

TXMT - How to edit shadow intensity through TXMT settings

SHPE - adding resources

To correct shadow brightness, open Categorized Properties Tab in the shadow TXMT and look for the line “stdMatAlphaMultiplier”. If it’s set to 1.000000, shadow’s usually pretty dark. To make it softer, you need to lower this number. 0.650000 is a good starting point.

If you add the entire TXMT shadow resource extracted from another package (not to be mixed with importing TXMT properties, it’s a different thing) you need to edit the name twice - in Filename field, and cMaterialDefinition tab.

If shadow looks like a solid object in the game that means it is linked to TXMT with wrong properties (shadows require specific TXMT properties) or texture that is not ExtRaw8Bit format.

Instead of trying to edit the TXMT properties, you can import the shadow properties from another package. If you don’t know how to do that, HERE is a little tutorial

TIP: the game only displays groundshadows for certain objects when placed indoors, and southwall shadows (wall shadows) only when all walls are up. If you change shadow subset name (in GMDC and SHPE), shadow will always be visible indoors, and outside (custom shadow names).

Remember, it’s essential you always do fix TGI after editing txmt or txtr name. But in case of adding or editing the SHPE parts (listed subsets) - don’t bother, because fix TGI doesn’t matter here. Stuff should work as long as you get all the names right and commit the changes.

Some old tutorials might tell you to FIX INTEGRITY after editing TXTR, SHPE, GMDC, TXMT. Don’t do it - it’s not required, and it can even break objects.

5.

TXTR - How to change format / size

Note1: For a 64 x 128 pic shadow txtr (vertical), or 128 x 64 (horizontal) use MipMap Level 8.    

Note2: obviously you need to select TXTR resource to fix TGI for it.

It’s not required for shadow texture to have “shadow_txtr” suffix, it could be “groundshadow_txtr” of anything else.

If  you’ve created/added new TXTR, remember to update texture name in TXMT Properties and TXMT File List.

If you think you did everything right, but shadow is blue.. Well, something is NOT right ;) It could be wrong TXMT name or texture name.

Check your object with Scenegrapher. It looks quite complicated but if some resources are “orphaned” = not linked to anything, you’ll see it right away. Make sure you’ve run Fix TGI on edited TXMTs and TXTRs. It’s possible you have a typo somewhere. Start with screening the resource names for missing suffixes, like _txtr or _txmt. Then check the texture names - make sure you haven’t added a suffix somewhere where it’s not required.

sabrina @lanwangiji​, my love, tagged me to share my process of making this typography edit! check out her explanation of her the untamed edit and her edit tag. 

1. PLANNING

i once opened lyrics edit requests so i can learn and practice typography. this edit was a request as well. i asked them which lyrics they wanted to have and the colors they’d like. since i got several requests and it was hard to keep tabs on them, i made a trello board so i could organize everything. i’m still using the trello board for every edit idea i have, the board makes my life easier.

above is what i filled the card in the board with. basically just information of the requests.

1.1 INSPIRATION

once i got the request, my first thought was to find the vibe the song/lyrics exude. “it’s an old curse” screamed witchy vibes to me, so i went to pinterest to find some inspirations. at first i was looking for witchy poster designs and i came across this. i liked how it has smoke-ish graphic and i thought the smoke suited the “old curse” lyrics. and tbh pinterest is a rabbit hole, they gave me suggestions after suggestions, like this and this which became my inspiration for the color palette (i added the gold from those pics) and the sun moon design gave me the idea to incorporate space stuffs too. i somehow landed on this too, and because i wanted to include space theme, i made a simple phases of the moon. ultimately the hero of this edit was the lyrics, i didnt want the graphics took the center stage. i was inspired to make a crystal ball and do this kind of typography but after several trials i couldnt get the the typography right, so i scratched that idea and went with the space theme instead.

1.2 PICKING COLORS

after i was feeling inspired enough, i went looking for the right colors. i usually just type “color name” and “palette” on pinterest. example “dark grey color palette” and i chose the one i liked best. when the request only asked for 1 color, i always searched for either a complimentary or contrasting color to give it a jushz, to add sprinkles. that’s why i added gold on top of the dark grey. 

1.3 FINDING FONTS

this is the hardest part. the fonts play important role to the design. they need to convey the vibes of the lyrics, in this case witchy/magic vibe. i needed to find fonts or font just as magical and a bit whimsical. tho i hoard fonts... i like to use new font for every typography edit lmao sue me.

i highly recommend going to creativemarket free goods site, pixelsurplus font freebies and behance to search for fonts. i always use 100% free fonts, that means i can use it personally as well as commercially. creativemarket gives me desktop license for the fonts, which means i can use it for commercial as well. the reason i do this because i want to open an etsy shop someday, and i want to have the right license when i sell my stuffs. i almost never buy fonts bc they are expensive lmao. 

the fonts in used are “Vintage” for the main typograpy (i think i was a freebie from creativemarket) and “Morganite” for the title of the lyrics and the name of artist. 

2. CREATING

once i have my materials and ideas, i open my illustrator and hope it doesnt crash every 5 min.

for this kind of typography edits, i use 600x700 px. tbh i dont like using 540px, the suggested tumblr size, as the width bc to me it doesn’t look as good in quality, so i up the px. but more on this sizing later. i utilize the artboards function in illustrator, and i use 2 artboards.

i use illustrator (ai) bc i’m working with vectors. when i work with vectors, the graphics/texts or whatever im making in ai wont become blurry or lose its quality when i enlarge or shrink it. in compare to photoshop, i need to make for example the moon graphic very big, so i wont lose the quality when i reduce and enlarge it again. with vector, i can start small and when i expand it, it’s still as good as when it’s tiny. 

2.1 GRADIENTS

i started with the gradients first. i created a rectangle as big as 600x700px and with the “freeform gradient” tool in ai, i played with the colors. below is the color palettes i used

2.2 LYRICS AND GRAPHICS

once the gradients are done, i worked with the lyrics and graphics right away. when i first doing this edits, i made typos a lot lmaooooooo. so i copy and pasted the lyrics on top of my artboard, so i wouldnt have any typos. 

i had 3 layers in my ai. one for the inspo pics and the OG lyrics. the rest for the edits themselves. i broke up “It's an old curse/dreamers diving headfirst” into to parts, hence the 2 more layers

i almost always started with the lyrics first then the graphics. but for this edit, i made the smoke first so i can layout where my text would be.

tbh the process of making the lyrics is a trial and error. i tried bunch of different stuffs and i chose whatever the best. but i worked like methodically, i made sure i finished the first part of the lyrics first then i could move on.

i was lucky with this font “vintage”. the font offers me several glyphs like these

and i chose the one at the bottom. you’re very lucky if you find a font and they have glyphs.

excursion: glyphs vs fonts

glyph is an individual character. It might be a letter, an accented letter, a ligature, a punctuation mark, a dingbat, etc.

A font is a digital file which is used to display a typeface, which contains the entire upper- and lowercase alphabet as well as punctuation, numbers, and other special characters.

after i was finished with all the lyrics i added some graphics to make the edit pretty like small stars or dots. i added the song title and the artist too, sometimes at the bottom sometimes at the top. and i added my watermark put it as small as i could and made it a bit invisible but still can be seen.

2.3 EXPORTING

exporting! this is where i’m going to go deeper with the dimension of my work. in ai, i always choose to save with “export as screens” function. it automatically divides the artboards i have and save them separately. i always save as png, bc the size is smaller than jpg but can maintain the quality.

now the export tab looks like this

see the formats? i always scale up my edits, 2-3 times the original artboard size. reason is, to maintain the quality. i have tried to save it as original, 600x700 px, but it turned out a bit blurry. bc everything in ai is vector, when i scale up it doesnt lose the quality. BUT once i save it as png, it’s not a vector anymore, and when you zoom in until a certain degree it’ll be pixelated. that’s why i always scale up, to avoid it becoming pixelated when it’s just zoomed 1 or 2 times.

2.4 FINAL TOUCH

i opened my photoshop and also pray it won’t crash. import the png of my edits, add some grains/noise. the reason i use photoshop is, the noise filter is way better than in ai. it’s smoother somehow. and then i export my edits.

3. POSTING

now the hardest parts are done, we go to posting!

i uploaded the 2 posters on tumblr as photos then i wrote the captions. for this typography edit, i always chose another lyrics that i like from the same song for the caption. i bolded the lyrics, add link to all of my typography gradient edits.

i always use this link to color my caption. i usually choose 3-4 colors, and i took the colors from my edit. but this was not until recently lmao. before i just took a guess and looked for similar colors that match the edit, but then i thought “why didnt i just use the color in the posters lmao”

ok after i have my html code for the caption, i go to this site to replace the “;” with “ “ so tumblr can read the code.

i’m not one who puts their edits in draft, bc i just cant wait to post it. i have to option here, either i post it immediately when the time is right (i usually post between 4-8) or i schedule it, if im finished before 4. 

i put all the necessary tags and click post! i am done finally!

A ‘How I edit’ tutorial

I’ve been asked by a few people in Twitter to make a tutorial so I’m doing it here since it’s more comfortable :P 

I use Photoshop, so I don’t know if it’ll work the same way for other softwares, sorry! Also I use Okruee’s Technicolor reshade, which helps a lot and makes my life easier.

This is a before and after of the pic I’ll use as example, the tutorial is under the cut!

The pictures on text posts are pretty small so I’ll have all of them linked with better quality underneath each of them!

1. First things first, after opening the picture I want to use I enlarge it. Go to Image > Image size. I change the width from 1366 to 2366 using Bicubic Smoother. You can skip this step if you want, but I like my pictures to be bigger so more details can be seen!

2. Then I run Topaz Clean 3 (It’s an extension you have to install on your Photoshop. There are thousands of tutorials on google that will tell you how to dowload and install it!), I select the original layer, duplicate it and run Gaussian Blur on this new layer (Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur) with a radius of 6,6 pixels (but that’s just my own taste). Now I set this blurry layer to multiply and lower the opacity to 16%. I have an action to do all of this so Photoshop does it for me just by clicking a button, and I recommend you do the same!

3. Duplicate your original layer (Layer 0) and now it’s time to make light adjustments! On the Adjustments tab click on Curves and drag the line. Play with the settings until you like the results! I like vibrant pictures, so that’s what I’m looking for.

4. At this point I fix any imperfection or clipping the picture has (like Magnus’ hand in this example).

5. Now I start placing shadows. It’s pretty easy, just follow the shadows your picture already has and make them more noticeable!

I create a new layer on top of the second copy of the original layer (Layer 0 Copy 2), set it on multiply and start working there. I pick a brush with 0% hardness (sometimes I change the opacity of the brush too, depending on the level of detail) and eyedrop the skin color of the sim, and then I start drawing the shadows. At this point your sim will look like someone that is having a bad makeup day, but don’t worry, just keep adding those shadows!

6. With the shadows layer selected I go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and adjust the radius until I like the result (15,5 pixels in this case), and if necessary I adjust the opacity of the shadows layer. I repeat this with skin, hair, clothes until I’m satisfied with the look of the shadows!

7. For the highlights I do more or less the same but with white and setting the layer on Soft Light mode and then I use Gaussian Blur. I do this on the skin, hair and clothes if necessary until I’m satisfied with the look.

8. I play with the brightness, saturation, color and curves in the Adjustments tab until I like the general look and I’m done!

9. I cut the picure if I want to and that’s basically all I do! It’s actually a pretty simple way of editing since my reshade (Okruee’s Technicolor) does most of it for me!

I think you’re referring to the CAS options as Clean UI itself works on all resolutions. Since you have a screen width of 1280px, you can choose the ‘cas-min-width-1280-additional-200px.package’ file! Please note it’s possible that CAS can still be stuck in default mode which is probably related to your graphics card (scroll down a bit for more info).

It seems like you didn’t move the file ‘gckp-clean-ui-tooltip-graphic.package’ to the base game’s UI folder. For some strange reason, it just doesn’t work when its in the Downloads folder.

Did you remove both of Chris Hatch widescreen mods (one moves the control area, the other moves and enlarges it)? If so, it can be related to your graphics card (scroll down a bit for more info).

These are so fun for sharing. But even better, they’re seriously tasty! That thick golden batter ups the ante on these, and the buttermilk-dill is the perfect balance to the pucker from the pickle.

And, really, can you ever go wrong with Fried Mozz? While these are pretty much the regular awesome, crunchy, gooey things you’d expect when ordering some fried mozzarella, there are two interesting touches to point out.

First, that sauce is a smoky chipotle tomato sauce (as opposed to your regular marinara), adding some great, unique flavor. And second… you gotta love how they topped fried cheese sticks with EVEN MORE CHEESE. Nice!

But if you’re at Black Tap, you’ve clearly got to go for some burgers. And thanks to the vegan and turkey options (along with those gluten free and vegan bun options), there’s something to meet just about any burger craving.

The Texan Burger starts out like all the other beef burgers: with the “prime burger patty” of 7 ounces of 100% Black Angus USDA certified beef, and served with fries, lettuce, tomato, and a pickle on a potato roll. It’s topped with bacon, aged cheddar, and a huge onion ring, with BBQ sauce and mayo to finish.

The Texan Burger

All the beef burgers are cooked to medium (unless otherwise requested). Overall, regarding our four burgers, we thought a couple of them were a little overdone. But just by a touch and it didn’t take away too much from the flavor.

Plus the toppings are terrific, as is the case with The Pizza Burger, which is topped with marinara, fried mozzarella, and parmesan.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again… don’t knock a fried mozzarella-topped burger ’til you try it, folks. It totally works!

The Mexico City is another burger topped with a huge onion ring. But heat seekers will definitely be interested in hearing about the other toppings on this one.

You’re looking at pepper jack cheese and pickled jalapenos (look at the size of those slices!) with chipotle mayo for a finishing touch. This has a nice amount of kick to it for those who crave some spice!

There’s more to the Crispy Chicken Sandwich than the name implies.

The truly crispy chicken is topped with a tangy buttermilk coleslaw, cilantro, lime, and spicy mayo with Korean BBQ served on the side. Altogether, it’s a really flavorful sandwich that’s not just an afterthought in comparison to the burgers.

I’ve gotta say, though… we were all surprised by, of all things, The Turkey Burger! It’s topped with Swiss cheese, smashed avocado and truffle mayo.

Compared with the other burgers which lean towards over-the-top, you wouldn’t think this would be a standout. But it really was! This thing was packed with flavor thanks to some terrific seasoning, and the whole table was impressed.

We were less impressed, unfortunately, with the side of Teriyaki Broccoli. Seasoned with garlic, ginger, sesame, and scallion, it sounds pretty promising, right? I mean, it got ME to order broccoli, so that’s saying something.

But the broccoli itself was kind of limp and the teriyaki sauce was more sour than flavorful. I wouldn’t get it again.

Speaking of sauce, though, I’d highly recommend grabbing a couple of the house sauces to dip your fries or some huge, yummy onion rings. (Note that you do receive your choice of a sauce if you order a batch of onion rings or a batch of fries, but it’s fun to have a couple for the extra buck.)

This time, the vanilla frosted rim is covered in fruity pebbles, which also top that GIGANTIC pile of whipped cream. So much whipped cream, in fact, that’s it’s hard to see that there’s also a rice krispy treat, a strawberry Pop-Tart, and some Laffy Taffy in there, too, for good measure! Oh, AND a cherry on top!

And it is NO JOKE. The vanilla frosted rim is coated in cookie crumbles, and it’s topped with a “cookiewich,” crumbled cookies, chocolate chip, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce.

And what I say for one of these, I say for all… the CrazyShakes are the real deal. So, a couple hours away from my cousin's house in West Hartford, I start smelling something weird (maybe it's someone else's poor vehicle).. and then feeling something weird (man the roads here are extra bad).. and then Sarah notices too... so we pull over and look around the truck. Nothing seems out of order, until Sarah spots smoke coming from the rear driver's side wheels. Ugh. Okay. 

The closest exit is about as close as it could possibly be, so we slowwwly drive to the closest gas station, and then slowwwly towards the closest recommended service center (which turn out to just be an Advance Auto in a mall, not exactly a helpful garage.) As we enter the mall parking lot, the sounds and shaking get rapidly worse, and I realize I can't accelerate, and THEN I see the wheel in the rearview mirror (not usually possible) and slam on the brakes, which do not do a whole lot. Fortunately we have JUST made it out of the main parking lot traffic. 

Sarah jumps out to take a look, and I go to follow her after putting it in park and turning off the engine, and putting the emergency brake on just in case - all with additional alarming noises. But when I take my foot off the brake, the truck doesn't stop. It keeps gently inching forward. OKAY. 

Eventually it just.. isn't rolling anymore, and we commence insurance calls and begging at Advance Auto (totally unhelpful) and fielding the curious inquiries of the many people doing their errands at this mall. About 5 hours later, a tow truck finally brought us to a nearby heavy truck repair shop and... there we were. 

And here we are, in Glens Falls, NY. We're both fine, the truck is... yet to be diagnosed (the shop doesn't open till Monday morning), and our bikes are coming in extremely handy. We spent our first night sleeping in the truck last night, and plan to do it again tonight. Everyone who ever asked "Do you sleep in that thing?" - yes.  It looks like we won't make it to Montreal like we hoped, but we're only about 2.5 hours from Burlington... worst case scenario, maybe the truck stays in Glens Falls for a while while we get ourselves to Burlington somehow??  STAY TUNED! Months of income neatly listed in columns. Years of expenses documented in different tabs. Beautiful graphs made from forecasting the FV formula.

I can’t. Get. Enough.

Eventually, though, if you’re anything like me, you run out of variables to change. The joy starts to fade from putzing around in Excel, and you need something more to keep up the high…

Enter, OnTrajectory.

I’m pretty sure this beautiful piece of software is a love child from Excel having a one-night stand with the cFIREsim calculator.

OnTrajectory (or OT) bills themselves as “A Financial Planner and Analyzer – All in one easy-to-use graphically interactive program.” They’re not wrong. It’s beautiful.

You start off entering in some details about you: age, total savings, annual income, and how much income you save monthly. You can skip these questions and enter them manually if you want a more granular control over where that information goes.

After it processes the information, you’re taken to the main screen where you have a number of options.

Let’s start with income:

The thing I love most about OT is the flexibility to include multiple streams of income that last as long as you want.

Day job income until you’re 34? Done.

Great Aunt Ethel passes away when you’re 50? Put that chunk of change in there.

Lucky enough to get a pension that starts at age 65? You guessed it: that can go in there as well!

Moving on to expenses:

Much the same story as income, except these are all the things you’re spending money on.

Only paying for college for 2 years for the kiddo? You can include that.

Finish paying off the house at age 45? You get the picture.

I also like that you can go super granular and include your actual budget for expenses. It’s for those that really want to go deep into their budget and estimate how changing things like not spending money on work clothes and spending more money on vacations and tequila affects their timeline.

(I may or may not be one of those people.)

After expenses comes the really fun part: Accounts and Taxes

This is the section where you get to add in all of your existing accounts. If you’re like me, this could take awhile. It’s worth it, I promise.

Notice how in the picture above I have a 401k in there? Well, if you look closer at the numbers that I totally made up out of the blue, you’ll notice how it has two sections. The first section is the years I’m going to contribute money to it while I’m still working. The second part is the growth stage, where I don’t touch my beautiful little nest egg and let it grow untouched for 29 years.

As with all the other sections, you can change the date ranges and amounts contributed to see how it changes your trajectory. One really fun thing to do is to look at what your projected end number is if you stop contributing to you 401(k) this year. I bet the number is higher than you would think it would be! I wouldn’t recommend, however, seeing what your number would be if you worked for 35 years and contributed the max. Let’s just say I’d be worth well over 7 figures if I decided to sacrifice the best part of my life to ‘The Man’.

The next tab is “goals”

I’m going to be completely honest here and let you know I haven’t fiddled with this section too much. Simply because I’m a Type A person and I don’t like setting goals that are so dependent on something as flaky as the US Stock Market.

There are a number of goals you can set, though, like Trajectory reaches $ on this Date _____,  Projected Progress reaches $ on this Date ______, and Trajectory reaches $ on _____ at this cumulative RATE _____.

The last and final tab is simply a list of all the progress check-ins you’ve done so far.

Everything combines to make a chart that looks something like this:

As you can see, this very simple example would have me living a life full of comfort and luxury until the end of my days. Yay!

I know this because not only does the graph end on a record high, there is also a handy dandy notification that says so. Not in those exact words though, sadly.

The notification area comes with a variety of different messages, from successful trajectory to early withdrawal penalties to projected shortfall warnings. Here are what some of them look like:

At the risk of babbling on and on about this awesome website (seriously I could talk about it all day. I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface!) I will end with a quick summary.

OnTrajectory really lets you dig into the nitty gritty details if you’re a numbers person. I’ve been using them for over a year now and I love it. I feel far more confident with my plans now that I can see the definite impact of working a few more years or not fully maxing out my 401(k).
