anyways all i’m saying is that if the federation truly did manage to make the eggs fully invisible to qq it makes a LOT of sense for the island to be a simulation. all they had to do was go in and edit some code and - [I AM FORCIBLY REMOVED FROM THE STAGE]

If any 4 of your ocs were inflicted with the despair disease from SDR2, what kind of disease would they get?
Okay I know this was only four ocs..but I got inspired and did them all whoops
Naoko: Happiness Disease.
First off he would be like Nagito and be bedridden the whole time cause his health already sucks. Otherwise; his usually unemotional personality he uses as protection is gone and is forced to constantly keep smiling no matter how awful he is feeling.
Raijin: truth disease
Is now forced to act like his true self without his persona no matter how hard he tries to hide it, now being nearly emotionless and blank with others only barely being able to genuinely open up. Afterward he would try and act like it was just the disease talking and he isn’t like that.
Tsuyoshi: Deceptive disease
Usually honest and open, so the disease makes him a complete lair and cunning as he messes with others for his own amusement while pretending like he always acted like this.
Kaori: Crude disease
Pretty much everything she was raised not to be to the extreme. Extremely rude and cocky believing she is the best and everyone else around her are garbage. Always talking about how much everyone else sucks.
Giichi: Silence Disease
Ah the worst disease for a actor who relies on preforming. Is unable to talk at all despite being normal otherwise and frustrated
Yukino: Dependent disease
Instead of valuing her solitude, she is completely dependent on others being extremely clingy begging people not to leave her by herself. Probably scared of the paranormal.
Ume: Optimist disease
Acts more like she used to when she was younger. Always cheerful and looks on the bright side to everything almost to a negative degree ignoring everything bad that could happen.
Mizumi: Timid disease
Becomes a lot more gloomy and shy unlike her usual boisterous personality, unfitting of her pirate captain personality. Would cry with apologies if someone brought her old words.
Etsuko: Apathetic disease
While she usually is extremely open and kind to others, with the disease she is stand offish actively telling people to leave her alone while being extremely quick to tell people off for their flaws.
Takumi: Greed Disease
Unlike his usual self were he shares whatever he steals and gives it to the less fortunate, this time he relentlessly hordes whatever he steals with no regard for others.
Rika: Lazy disease
Stops caring about anyone or anything. Much rather lounge on the couch while watching television or whatever else. Asking her to do anything will only get a rude comment from her.
Shigure: Envy disease
Extremely jealous of everyone he has helped in the past. The kinda, ‘why do they get love and I don’t?’ Type. Almost everything his classmates do earn his jealous over his usual happiness.
Hayato: Immature disease
The type to say he is gonna protect everyone still, while putting them in danger for fun. Laughs at any crude jokes and makes some himself never taking anything, even death, seriously.
Sumiko: Selfish disease
Entirely focused on herself and how she is feeling. She can’t bring herself to care for others at all and is only talking and worrying about herself and her feelings.
Akihito: Wrath Disease
His coward side disappears to the point where everything sets him off and he is always picking fights with people he talks to thinking he could easily win. Makes himself afterward want to die from embarrassment and shame.
Yamane: Boring Disease
Is in a constant state of art block almost. Finds everything boring and everything she creates equally so. Puts practically no effort into anything.

I’m no mystery writer. I can’t promise airtight murder cases. Still, I have quite a lot of ideas for the first chapter of "I DISAGREE: An Ibuki Mioda SDR2 Protag Swap AU." Let me piece together something - or some of something, anyway - for our new protagonist to piece together in her first pitched battle against sheer despair. Strap in, cuz it’s a long one.
We've All Been Looking for the One: The First Trial
The Monokuma File only confirms the obvious. The victim: Chiaki Nanami, Ultimate Gamer. Time of death: when else but in the dead of night? Cause of death: impalement, as evidenced by the gushing tunnel connecting gut and back.
Ibuki screamed even louder than Hiyoko, drawing everyone - including the bear. Hajime vomited. Byakuya fell on his knees. Fuyuhiko bemoaned the bastard who did this. Mikan broke down. Monokuma cheered. Everyone else cried out. But with a limited window before the imminent trial, there was no time to grieve - only to investigate.
Let’s follow the investigation and trial through the main suspects:
Nagito finds the Ultimate Kendoka’s sword at the bottom of the swimming pool, definitely not where Byakuya had stowed it after confiscating it. Only this could be the murder weapon, and surely only its wielder could use it so effectively. Her do-nothing demeanor could be a put-on for all anyone knows, and her being barricaded like every other patient means nothing when Chiaki also somehow escaped.
<Peko Pekoyama!>
Fuyuhiko vigorously defends her, leading everyone to question why he paid so much more attention to her than anyone else. Ibuki notes that before even knowing the girl was sick, he noticed that she wasn’t at the restaurant and rushed to find her. Peko says they should stop hiding their connection. That’s how everyone learns that the two have known each other practically since birth. The Ultimate Kendoka is the Ultimate Yakuza’s lifelong bodyguard and companion.
Ibuki thinks it’s adorable that he did so much to protect her. The others feel differently …
<Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu!>
A few things become clear: the killer needed access to the sword, and they couldn’t have been stuck in a room. So, either a patient with help from staff (Fuyuhiko released Peko, who killed Chiaki) or a member of the staff on their own (Fuyuhiko did it himself to cure Peko). Fuyuhiko had already shown a willingness to kill before this sudden pivot to nursing. Maybe he volunteered specifically to become the blackened after all!
“No, that’s wrong!” Hajime’s been practically nonfunctional after seeing Chiaki’s corpse. Though he’ll never know it in this AU, her presence in the trials would’ve grounded him in a way no one else could, enabling him to suss out contradictions and find the truth. This is what allows another person to become the protagonist. With Fuyuhiko in the crosshairs, though, he’ll finally spring into action. “Peko would’ve died too,” he continues, “and he’d never let that happen.”
A few other clues will vindicate the pair. I like the idea that Hajime is Fuyuhiko’s alibi because they spent the whole night in bed together. Kuzuhina fans, rejoice! (Fuyuhiko, too straightedge to let the implications stand, insists they just watched samurai movies until they passed out.)
This is when Ibuki and Mikan realize something crucial. “She wasn’t acting like herself,” Fuyuhiko says about Peko’s recent behavior shift. He’s the only one who’d know what any patient was like before the island. It’s no coincidence that they started acting weird when they fell ill. The illness itself radically altered their personalities! “It’s like Opposite Day Disease,” Ibuki shouts, “or Being-Really-Different Disease!” (And this is why I chose Peko as one of the infected!)
Monokuma confirms their theory, but claims dibs on naming the malady he invented. He dubs it Despair Disease.
<Byakuya Togami!>
Up to this point, Ibuki’s mostly been little more than a contributor to the trial’s progress. Byakuya Togami dominates the conversation with his self-proclaimed leadership role. His keen observation skills and high intellect back him up. What he can’t quite manage is to piece together a clear narrative of the night’s events, though he still expects everyone to catch up with him.
Several things become clear:
The staff were around the contagious patients long enough that someone could’ve caught Despair Disease from them.
The symptoms of the infected cleared up after Chiaki’s murder, though the exact timeframe is unknown.
Hajime and Fuyuhiko are each other’s alibis.
Ibuki and Mikan, having also shared a bed (Hiyoko: “Hey, is that hotel a love hotel?”), are each other’s alibis.
(I've learned that two people can’t just be each other’s alibis. Just assume there was an awkward moment, very late at night, where Mikan and Fuyuhiko tried sneaking out of what they both know to be, respectively, Ibuki and Hajime’s rooms. They both ducked back in and apparently stayed.)
No one saw Byakuya after the group split and left Ibuki’s room.
Byakuya was the one who insisted on storing Peko’s sword.
He also insisted on keeping its location secret from everyone else.
The alleged leader and protector of the group doesn’t take the subsequent accusations well. (Being the only one on staff who slept alone that night doesn’t help.) Ibuki’s confident that he’d never murder someone in a million years, but vibes alone aren’t enough for others to drop their suspicions. This is her moment to shine as the protagonist! Her vivid imagination allows her to conceive possibilities that wouldn’t cross anyone else’s minds and devise creative solutions that most would immediately dismiss.
One funky idea I had for how his name gets cleared involves Chiaki’s nails. While examining her corpse, Ibuki notices dark marks beneath them - flesh, torn off when the victim fought back. Kitty had claws, but who bears the claw marks? Only one way to find out: “Quick! Take off your top!” With no choice but to remove his dinner jacket and undershirt, Byakuya shows no signs of that damage on his chest, arms, or back.
Pants are out of the question. At least, not until others expose their upper halves first. Despite Teruteru’s insistence, they start with the boys:
The slim Fuyuhiko is free of marks.
So is the surprisingly wide-chested Hajime … “but,” Ibuki teases, “you already knew that, didn’t you, Hiki-chan?”
Nagito has scars, but they’re old. Mikan correctly guesses they’re from past surgeries.
Kazuichi, who’s been near-catatonic since being discovered in his room, is reluctant to move, let alone strip. Ibuki recalls that his crazy pecs were exposed throughout his entire hospital stay. They thought that finding him with his jumpsuit zipped up was a sign of normalcy …
The others urge him to comply. With great reluctance, he unzips. This action reveals a bloodstained wifebeater.
<Kazuichi Soda!>
More on the murder and execution, next week.

Dude...okay. First of all, yes Monokuma was manipulating him. Monokuma doesn't just hand things out without a reason. His "gifts" are always given with the intention to stir shit and create motives for killing. Even seemingly benign stuff like the class photos in THH Chapter 6 were given to make the remaining six survivors mistrust each other. He would not have handed out a bombshell like that, unless he wanted someone to get killing again if Trial 4 didn't end in the culprit's favor. And while no, he wouldn't have been able to predict the method Nagito would use, that's kind of irrelevant. He just needed Nagito to add more bodies for Junko to possess. It was simply a bonus that his mark's plan was more well thought out than Monokuma could have hoped for. There is no reason at all to assume that Nagito was made aware that getting the class killed would be advantageous to Junko. None. Him knowing that and going ahead with the plan would mean he would be consciously acting in the name of Despair and not Hope instead of unwittingly. Which not only would mean that everything we know about his twisted ideology is a lie. But it pretty much means that he was never brainwashed and has always been on Junko's side. Since when he got that information he was still amnesiac of everything from Hope's Peak. I mean if that's what you think, well okay. But your storyline doesn't seem to assume that's true. As for the bitchy insults from him in Chapter 4's trial...seriously? That is such a childish thing to still hold against him. Of course he acted like an asshole to them. He'd just discovered that the people he looked up to as idols are all terrorists. He was disillusioned, confused, and angry. And the fact that he chose not to share that information with them is actually a very good reason to assume he didn't know about the brainwashing. If he was operating under the assumption that these people chose to become Ultimate Despair of their own free will, then it would make perfect sense not to trust them with that information. For all he'd know they might just choose to turn back of their own free will once more after learning the truth. I appreciate that you took the time to give such a detailed reply. Honest, I do. And I'm sorry that it dragged on for you. But that interpretation you gave puts a lot of stuff into perspective. You've gone out of your way to interpret him in SDR2 as the shittiest scumbag imaginable. It's no wonder to me now that this blog has been attracting so many anti-Nagito anons ever since the character woke up. They probably see the less sympathetic way he's written here and on other blogs as a signal that they can vent their hatred for him. I do still enjoy this blog's story for the most part and am interested in seeing what you do in the future. And I do believe that you're sincere about wanting these characters to all get better. But I really think you need to reevaluate how you think about some of them. Nagito, Hiyoko, and potentially others too.
1. You’re in that Monokuma manipulated Nagito however. But Monokuma manipulates EVERYBODY! That’s why he gives out the motives! It’s his job! So I don’t know why we’re suddenly using that word for Nagito of all people, because by your very logic and words; Teruteru should be understood for starting the killing game, by wanting to see his mom again and stopping Magito. So you should understand EVEN MORE where he’s coming from. But nope, Nagito’s the exception not the rule, huh?
2. We’re back to this back and forth again. Like I said it’s pointless to argue because we have no way of knowing how intricate the file goes. One of Nagito’s core character traits is that he has no problem dirtying his own hands with despair it it means Hope can bloom from it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Question though: do you think the file goes in detail about Future Foundation. If yes, Nagito shouldn’t have even tried his plan if he knew the Ultimate Hope Makoto was apart of this and that he wouldn’t want something like this. If no, Welp, we’re back where we started. Circles. We’re talking in circles at this point debating hypotheticals.
3. The insults weren’t that bad? Um…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They were incredibly poor taste! They have every right to be royally pissed at him! Whole game is ranting and raving about his ideology that they all find wrong, and now he’s insulting Hajime because he doesn’t deserve to stand next to the Ultimates and talked ill of the recently passed Gundam. I don’t think the characters would let this shot ho so easily as that OVA put it out to be. One of the points this arc was showing exactly that.
I will say it is kind of refreshing that this isn’t a defense post about Hiyoko. I was wondering when a Nagito defender would come. Welcome. What took you so long. As I’ve stated previously, even if I made Nagito out to be this much of asshole and dick to others, I still don’t tolerate the bullshit other anons have said about him when they go too far. I’m trying to say that Nagito is not innocent and has to coke to turns with that as well.
But anyway, as I reread you’re previous rant. You’re whole argument goes out the window when I read this little entry:
Tumblr media
Are you seriously implying that Nagito is exempt for any and consequences because of his condition?
………….
No. No No No No No No No No NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!
NO!!!
How dare you insinuate that bullshit! Just because Nagito has a mental illness you think he’s excused from punishment basically!?
NO!!!
Nagito is smart, he is aware of his actions! He can logically think and deduce, he’s arguably one of the smartest characters on that island!
Don’t you ever, EVER, use that as an excuse! Too long have I seen people use that to defend themselves being like, “Ooooh! I’m sorry I did those things! I’m autistic! You have to forgive me so easily!” BULLSHIT! I am autistic too! I will not have you treating me any differently if I did anything wrong! That does excuse anyone from their actions!
If you have the free will of your own accord and you’re full capable of your actions and not at all brainwashed by Junko or the Monokuma helmets, you should take responsibility for you’re actions! Own up to them! END OF STORY! Don’t fucking baby him.
If you ever…
EVER…
EVER!
…use that as an excuse again I will not tolerate it and have you immediately blocked! You will not be welcome here! Don’t ever do that again! I sincerely hope you don’t, then my message goes out to those who do actually use that as an excuse. If you do…
THEN GET THE FUCK OUT AND STAY OUT!!!
……God. ….Fuck!

sorry tasu… the angst muse is coming back so it’s time to bully you a little…
i’ve been slowly but steadily working on a rewrite of the entirety of sdr2 but with tasu because i’m a nerd and i want to put him in there with his bf, so this is likely gonna be thrown in there if/when i ever publish it. so fun ^^
fun fact: post ch3 trial, tasu confesses! kind of unfortunate timing, but better late than never i guess
anyway, here’s the blurb!
warnings: hiyoko being pretty mean, there’s nothing super bad but she bullies tasu a lot and says that nagito deserves to have the despair disease.
~~~
the dirty neon sign for the motel dimly illuminated the parking lot below. it was funny, despite the circumstances; as far as tasu and the others knew, there were no cars on jabberwock. well, save for the rusting truck that sat in front of the motel, but that wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
as always, the sky was clear, and the night would have been perfect had tasu been more at ease. unfortunately, his mind was racing, and he stared at the ground as he trudged towards the motel.
“hey, windbag! what’s got you so worked up, huh?”
he looked up, startled to see hiyoko standing outside one of the rooms.
“don’t tell me you’re all worked up over that creep,” she huffed, scrunching her nose in disgust. “if anyone here deserves to be sick, it’s definitely him. i wouldn’t be surprised if you ended up sick too, from how much you’ve been visiting him. just don’t spread your gross germs to me.”
for once, tasu couldn’t find the words to reply. all he felt was hiyoko’s words stabbing through him and causing tears to well in his eyes.
“hiyoko, please…” he managed, voice shaking. “i can’t deal with you right now.”
hiyoko rolled her eyes. “what? can’t handle the cold, hard truth? jeez, you really are a wimp, huh.”
even though she kept her distance, tasu could feel hiyoko’s glare piercing into him. he looked down again, trying to hide his tears as he walked to one of the rooms.
“oh, you’re running?” hiyoko laughed. “i thought you would at least try to stand up for your weirdo friend.”
tasu stopped and raised his head, looking at hiyoko silently. he knew how awful he must look with puffy, tear-filled eyes and hands fidgeting in front of him and picking at his nails nervously. he could hardly bring himself to care. he was too tired.
“hiyoko,” he mumbled. “stop. i told you, i don’t have the energy. goodnight.”
there was an embarrassing crack in his voice as he spoke, though he could barely speak normally anyway through his tears. hiyoko looked taken aback for a fraction of a second before sighing and scowling at him.
“whatever. i’m going to bed, too.”
she turned away, slamming the door behind her. tasu hadn’t realized how much he had been holding back, because the minute hiyoko was gone, he hiccuped out a silent sob. he staggered to the room he had decided on, taking the key from the door handle and walking inside.
as he sprawled out on the bed, tasu sighed, wiping away his tears. he hated not knowing if nagito was okay or not. he trusted mikan, of course, but tasu much preferred to be there himself to know for a fact that his favorite person was still alive.
he wondered if nagito felt the same.
back to the game. i'm sorry i have to stop every two seconds here, there's just a lot to unpack. this is probably gonna be even worse when i talk about ndrv3 tbh.
we cut back to nanami in the void. her sprite is animated this time, the first time we've seen a fully animated sprite in the entire series, which has the odd effect of making her feel Realer here than anyone in either game thus far. she says regardless of what the future is, she'll never disappear as long as they all keep moving towards it. the things that happened here won't be meaningless; if they could live through all this hope and despair, they can surely create a future they want, too. "even if it's a convenient miracle... if you just do it, things will turn out okay!" she says she'll be cheering for them. her tone here is a lot more animated and passionate than typical, sounding more like dr3 nanami than her usual sleepy affect in sdr2.
the screen fades to white and nanami is gone. hinata again realizes a second too late that he forgot to tell her thank you. it's ok dude she already knows you aren't shsl good manners.
when the scene fades back in, we're back to the brutalist trial room they began in and the survivors are all talking about how they can't pick between saving the world or themselves, and would prefer to remain in VR. everyone looks like they've given up. there is no sound, and the timer and life/influence meters are still glitched, but the onscreen prompt tells you to hit "A" to "Awaken" and as you keep pressing A the sound gradually starts to fade back in and the glitching stops (the meters stop fluctuating, and the timer pauses at 59:59:59). you don't have any truth bullets, but eventually after holding A you gain a new one, "Future," which fires on its own and hits every statement in the conversation. when it hits the sole weak point — junko saying a conclusion will never be reached — hinata goes white haired anime boy mode and yells at junko that she's got that wrong. the debate stops.
hinata says their future is uncertain, both hope and despair are going to be involved, but regardless their futures are their futures and he's not going to let anybody take that from them. he's done running away, he's going to fight for his future, for his own sake. junko's so thrown off by this she asks hinata who he is, then questions (seeming quite alarmed here) if she's talking to kamukura. hinata says no, he's not kamukura, he's hinata.
immediately we go into a junko vs. hinata rebuttal showdown where junko again tries convincing hinata to just give up, but we get infinite hits, so it's a cakewalk. right after that we get panic talk action, but it's again easy. i don't even think you can lose health here. junko is an an absolute panic thinking the simulation has glitched and she's now dealing with kamukura rather than hinata.
hinata tells his classmates it's time for them to start the shutdown. they express hesitation, but he says he's not gonna let things end like this. there ought to be more than two possibilities for their future. he says "let's leave this place with confidence, and from there we can just create it on our own. the future that we want!" and then the main danganronpa theme starts playing. i think this must be hinata's Cool Side nanami was talking about earlier... mans is so cool now he made the theme music play... anyway, junko tells him he's hoping for a miracle and that'd be way too convenient if they just got to leave and things worked out alright. hinata counters that this isn't a game, they do have the power to shape their own futures.
junko's still trying to talk the group out of it, saying they'll forget everything if they leave and this decision is basically suicidal, but what hinata's been saying has gotten through to the survivors. they all proceed to give little speeches about why they want to leave now, similar to in 1-6:
sonia basically says (and i'm paraphrasing heavily because she makes this whole thing a lighthouse metaphor, and her phrasing is a little awkward, i figure bc japanese isn't her first language) that even though she doesn't quite get it, hinata's speech just now pulled her out of the hopeless state she was in and she thinks she can see a potential future for the group. there's no way they can't pursue that future.
kuzuryuu says he doesn't know how it'll all play out but (again, reading between the lines a bit, he doesn't explicitly state who he's talking about but it's pretty obvious) he got snapped out of it by thinking about peko, the implication being that if they leave VR he has hope that she and the other "dead" people will wake up.
owari doesn't care much for thinking about complicated stuff like this, but hey, if there's something worth fighting, she's in! it's about confidence, babey!
souda has now been peer pressured into agreeing to the shutdown since everybody else wants to, but he doesn't seem upset about it. he briefly grumbles about this being "annoying" but ultimately seems just as down to leave as the rest of them.
junko (who as you might imagine isn't happy At All) asks how they can "throw [themselves] back into the depths of despair" and hinata says it's because they believe in their futures, and that's what makes them different from her. junko doesn't seem to have any idea what to do with this because it doesn't fit into her binary hope vs. despair framework. she wasn't prepared for hinata making a "we have to try moving forward, regardless of the outcome" argument. unlike naegi, hinata didn't play along with her hope vs. despair stuff. instead he said that whatever's in their future will involve both, and that's fine, they have to try anyway. she doesn't have a counterargument for that.
naegi tries to thank hinata but hinata says "it's not me you should be thanking," no doubt referring to nanami. and with that, the trial's officially over.
@fenyaee Oh definitely. I feel like even more than the electrohammers, the electrobomb would be essential if you wanted to communicate anything about the ch6 reveal with the characters without putting a major target on your back.
Tumblr media
@changeling-droneco I didn't even remember the antidotes!! Stocking up on those throughout the first few days of ch5 would be an essential back up plan, I think, if it got to the point that Maki got past you. Breaking the "everything's connected!" flashback light MIGHT help stop maki from making her move, but also without it, I'm worried the rest might all commit suicide together like how they almost did...
I think trying to talk down Kokichi is a lost cause, if anything because he's Kokichi and I don't know how anyone would be able to fully predict how he'd react to anything you'd do. Even if you used the electrobomb and fully laid out the truth of the killing game, would he believe you? Would he change his plan at that point, after being committed enough to die for it?
I think better than just giving him (or anyone else) the answer to ch6, the best bet might be to tell them where to investigate so they can find those conclusions themselves. The hidden door in the 1st floor girl's bathroom leading to the mastermind's room (which also directly implicates tsumugi in rantaro's murder) and the flashback light programming panel in the classroom on the second floor would be the most important two, I think. With that, you can bring down the killing game through the same means at ch6, just at an earlier time.
Tumblr media
@ace-disaster-weeb I see your point but I have two main counter arguments:
I'm not sure the ch1 time limit would have actually amounted to anything. It's hard to say, but considering the specific wording of "everyone forced to participate in this killing game will die!" and the reveal that everyone joined the killing game willingly in ch6, to me this motive seems like a major bluff on Tsumugi's part. No one was actually forced to join! On the other hand, I'm not really sure what they would've done if no one had died before the time limit.
Are we sure killing Tsumugi would have actually ended the killing game? Tsumugi wasn't working alone, she had a whole team behind her. Even if they killed her, couldn't they just continue to lay out her plot, push the angle that even with the mastermind dead and gone, since the earth was destroyed centuries ago it never even mattered -> despair?
Also, I actually think if you have the knowledge of all games, DR2 might be the easiest to stop with the least amount of casualties. THH is rough, because knowing the identity of the mastermind really doesn't help you stop the game. Trial 6 is absolutely essential to all of them escaping. I guess if they broke down the mastermind's room and ganged up on Junko maybe?
(Excuse me if this is off, it's been almost a year since Ive revisted sdr2) But if you can convince pre-monokuma Usami that something terrible is going to happen and to initiate the graduation protocol, or unlock the door with 11037 to that final trial ground and get everyone to override the graduation protocol, you might be able to get everyone out before anything's even started. But that fully depends on Usami and Chiaki, so I'm not really sure
Recently been filling time by trying to think what the best possible course of action would be to prevent Kaito and Kokichi's deaths if I was plopped into v3 right at the beginning of chapter 5
Big fan of your work, and I’m sorry if this comes off as rude but I just wanna info dump or else I’ll go crazy
I still respect your interpretation of fuyupeko but I think it’s debatable those two are as dependent on each other as ppl say
There’s major themes of Fuyuhiko pushing Peko away
1. In the splash art of them growing up, Fuyuhiko is never looking at Peko)
2. In Fuyuhiko’s Island Mode ending, Fuyuhiko explicitly say he needs to stop running away from Peko
3. In Danganronpa S, Fuyuhiko’s first instinct is to brush off Peko but he corrects himself saying he still needs her. In the Peko and Sayaka convo, Sayaka expresses she needs to be independent to not bother her friend, but Peko says her friend is probably happy to be relied on
4. The fact in SDR2, Peko lies about almost everything about herself (she saids she has parents in freetime, she calls Fuyuhiko her childhood friend and negates that in the trial), and the only time she was truly truthful she states that all she wants to be is remembered by Fuyuhiko
5. In Fuyuhiko’s talk with Akane, he states he never told Peko he was grateful for her. And in Peko’s freetime, Peko states as a child, Fuyuhiko would cry and call her scary
I do think Fuyuhiko and Peko’s relationship is strained from Peko being taught she was only a tool but I think it’s also comes from the fact Fuyuhiko never communicates with Peko that he actually likes her as a person. It still hurts me that when they were on a dangerous island where anyone could murder, Fuyuhiko told Peko explicitly not to talk to him, the one person she could trust on the island. Like who can blame Peko for thinking Fuyuhiko resented her.
Anyways, sorry if none of this made sense. I hope you’re not mad.
NO AUGH WASNT SUPPOSED TO BE POSTED DONT READ YET IM NOT DONE closenur eyes
ok done now
Nah not mad! I just think maybe I have a very different way of interpreting info, which is fine (we all do tbh), but I appreciate a respectful differing view.
Anyway, disclaimer, my memory is brittle and I havent consumed all DR content so some stuff is not available to me.
I'm gonna do this in numbers too just bc its easier
I dont really put a lot of stock into the art anyway? I dont know which one this refers to
same as in 3. with trying to distance himself from being too reliant on the family, possibly also being distant by trying to adhere to their roles, more on that later
I remember some of Fuyuhiko's deal being that he doesn't want to rely on the power of his family of everything, and that extends to Peko with her being his protector. I think the fact that he thinks e needs her, but doesn't want to, actually just plays right into my view of them (this one, Fuyuhiko not wanting their relationship to e what it is but admitting that he doesnt know anything else and would be pretty adrift without it).
I didn't know that! That's interesting. My memory might be wrong, but wasn't some of that because Fuyhiko instructed her to keep their affiliation a secret? And since the clan is all she knows, she had to make stuff up?
I could believe that Fuyuhiko never actually thanked Peko for her services, their whole job status being messy as it is. I dont know about that second thing, but I remember something about Fuyuhiko crying because he could sense that Peko was worried / she was trying to reassure him but without smiling or anything, something about them being kidnapped. Still doesnt really negate my view on them, just once again that they wanna be there for each other but somehow just can't.
Ok so, re: that little comic, I guess I should say: I dont think they were that sweet with one another all the time, and in fact kind of want to imply that while they *were* friends as kids, as volatile as kid friendships can be, from that point onwards they did start to grow into their roles and their own seperate ways (for worse). Fuyuhiko being an overly aggressive and angry dickhead a lot of the time, trying to fit into what he thinks he needs to be, and Peko being the 'tool' that she tries to pass as in the trial, actually kind of thinking she knows what's best for Fuyuhiko instead of talking to him one on one as a friend. When I say they were reliant on each other, I dont mean they were emotionally close, I just mean they literally define themselves a bit by the other (the game does this also), because they're not sure what to be otherwise, the other being the only peer they know closely. Like Fuyuhiko says (cries) in the trial, he needs Peko, and Peko is so consumed by her role that she did the whole murder thing.
Fuyuhiko pushing Peko away and Peko refusing to back away makes sense to me in the lens that Fuyuhiko wants Peko to be more than his walking talking sword, and Peko takes her duty seriously/is unwilling to lose the one person she has a connection with. Fuyuhiko is taking dumb clumsy baby steps at not needing Peko there all the time, even though he kind of does, and Peko doesnt see what's wrong with their relationship as is (and therefore thinks she can base a murder unit because she doesnt see how it wouldnt make sense that she doesnt count as a person). Fuyuhiko also absolutely dogshit at communicating and could have avoided a lot of this with some anger management and more thoughtful speaking, but i think part of the tragedy is that neither of them knew any better because what they were doing was all they'd ever been expected to do.
I always understood the whole "dont interact w me" thing to be a, a) a way for both of them to be normal classmates, which would be good for them, and later b) scheme to protect the both of them and give them advantage in the game. I cant say I ever saw it as pure callousness on Fuyuhiko's part- rough and clumsy attempt at being helpful, maybe- and I definitely can't agree with that read. I think maybe Peko could have seen it that way, in being that she wants to be relied on and be useful and that being rejected means she's being rejected, but Fuyuhiko states that people tend to be wary and suspicious of him (for good reason) so however harsh, I think it was always gonna end in Peko's favour, in or outside of game. Whether that was explicitly planned, I dont know- probably not- but I dont think it was just him being a dick.
Anyway! I don't know if this reply makes sense, but I'm not like disagreeing just to disagree! I replied this in-depth bc I was interested in answering lol. This is just what I mean by fundamentally different reads. This is how *I* understood the events based on my own brain translating it, doesnt mean yours is any more right or wrong, just different people processing things differently.
SDR2 guys x intimidating looking but sweet S/O
Hajime Hinata:
·       You had been Hajime’s best friend for as long as he could remember. You were always so smart and the top in your class. Truthfully Hajime expected you to be invited to Hope’s Peak, but… you were always rambunctious. As smart as you were, you didn’t care for rules that existed outside ones of safety. You were labeled the school delinquent, getting into fights, breaking most rules for the sake of breaking them, doing whatever you could to get a reaction from others, all the while smiling and laughing away having the time of your life.
·       “Ah! Hajime! That’s amazing!” “Y/N!?” You scooped him into your arms, lifting off his feet, spinning around and around. “MY boy, going to HOPE’S PEAK ACADEMY! This is amazing!” Suddenly your spinning came to a stop, stomping a foot on the ground to do so. “Hajime. Hope’s Peak is far, so you’ll be moving right? If that’s the case, you better text me every day! Okay, you don’t have to if you don’t want too, but at least keep me informed of the big stuff like how your first day was or the school festival or at least the sports day! Or, OR! If you’d like, maybe I could move with you, somewhere close to the school and I’ll just get a job in the area so you could just talk to me in person! I would visit, but even by train it’s a two-day trip and I’d probably get board at some point and get kicked off, and there’s also studying for school or work or whatever I do.” A light pink dusted Hajime’s cheeks, feeling a bit flustered at how excited you were, still effortlessly him closely, high off the ground. He swore his heart began to race seeing your absolutely beaming smile which seemed to shine brighter than the sun to him.
·       When with his friends he’d speak of you often, not to the point of annoyance, just enough for them to know he clearly missed you. From how he described you, you seemed to be the sweetest, most wholesome person in existence despite being a bit rowdy. So when Kazuichi caught Hajime holding hands and appearing to be going on a date with a person covered in scars exposed by your unbuttoned shirt, haired dyed a bright blond, scary tattoos, spiked jacket and boots, even having a mask covering you face, nobody believed him till Hajime walked in on the conversation, saying that was you. After that they insisted on meeting you, wanting to know such a seemingly contrasting person existed, and when they did meet you, they gave Hajime their approval, even if he didn’t want or need it.
   Izuru Kamakura:
·       Many things Izuru found boring, but if he had to choose one thing he found more boring than anything else, it’d have to be the baseless rumors surrounding you, his partner, all because you had a scary face. It was so ridiculous he couldn’t even entertain the idea of you secretly being the heir of a yakuza gang or something so off the wall even he couldn’t recall. Whenever he heard such rumors as he walked down Hope’s Peak’s halls, he thought he may just fall asleep from how tiring it was, thinking about the mental gymnastics people had to go through to even come to such conclusions.
·       It was another day and again he heard of your imaginary exploits of having killed a man in cold blood for money or some such and instantly he just felt exhausted. He continued to walk till he stopped before a door and knocked. “Oh, hey Izu-baby. What brings you here?” “… I just found myself here.” You chuckled, simply opening the door, taking your boyfriend’s hand and leading him in.
·       You promptly plopped him into a seat, going off to get something, Izuru had the chance to examine the many brushes, hair products and hair accessories spread out on the counter. There were even several sticky notes on the edges of the large vanity mirror, neat writing noting some appointments you had. Seems like he had come in when you were cleaning between appointments. “I found a new brush and I think it should work well with your thick long hair.” You placed your a hand on one of the back rest corners of the chair, leaning a little over him, smiling as you held said brush before him. “Then test it.”
·       You giddily collected his hair, your touch occasionally grazing across his skin. Your hands though covered in cuts, slightly dyed from all your hair styling work, and probably tired from having worked for almost six hours straight according to the sticky notes, they still were ever so gentle, making sure to not get caught on or pull any knots. Then you began to brush, starting from the bottom and working your way up. “Izuru, you have a few split ends, and it’s been a while, mind if I give you a light trim while I have you here?” “You have an appointment in forty-three minuets.” “Hmm… Yeah, I can get this done in time.” Once you reached the top you gave his hair a few extra strokes from top to bottom, making sure you got everything. “Oh, I also found a new shampoo which can help your hair. It’s still so dull, but at this point it might be because of your diet since I can’t seem to find anything that can work for you. Have you been eating? Has the staff been testing you on talents again and not feeding you?” “No.” You were going to ponder for a moment, to try figuring out what your boyfriend’s problem could be when said boyfriend placed a hand on your cheek, lightly pulling you beside him. Closing his eyes, he leaned in and kissed you on the cheek. “You’re so exhausted you forgot we spoke of this very subject yesterday.” “Huh?” Your entire face flushed a bright red, still unused to Izuru’s sparce displays of affection. Then to your confusion he pulled you onto his lap. “I-Izu-baby?” “You are taking a nap.” For some reason in that moment of seeing you so flustered he recalled the rumors. The thought of you even harming a fly was laughable, you were the absolute sweetest, kindest, caring person he had ever met. Holding you close he simply leaned into you, thinking you could both use a nap together.
   Nagito Komaeda:
·       You made your own rumors. The ones about you secretly being an assassin, you started it. The one about how you once were an international thief, you did it. The one about you selling drugs, that one was actually an accident, you were just getting a friend their pain meds, but you spread about a few more stories like it not long after. Why purposefully spread rumors many would wonder… well… there were two reasons.
·       The first, you found most people annoying and simply didn’t want to deal with them, content with your small, very close friend group. It was the perfect way to get people to back off so you wouldn’t have to deal with them in their first place. You also found some fun in seeing people run from you from your presents alone, made you feel like some cartoon super villain which you found quite amusing.
·       The second reason… You had always told your boyfriend the first one, but to his confusion, you’d always avoid telling him the other reason. Nagito knew you’d had to have your reasons for not telling him, but… well you were his partner, of course he was going to worry a little even if it seemed you knew what you were doing.
·       But he could ignore it no longer when you took the blame for him. Nagito came up with a plan to blow up a building, forcing the exams to be delayed so his classmates could have more time to prepare for them… and you took for the blame for it, being expelled for a time, but not forever. You couldn’t even stay on your dorm on campus, winding up staying in some cheap hotel paid by the school.
·       “Why did you do it?” “Eh, Nagito?” “WHY! Why did you take the blame for me!? I was trying to get you more time so you could show off in glory, but now you’re stuck here. Why did you do it?” Nagito was always so calm and composed, likely from facing disaster after disaster caused by his bad luck, but he was actually troubled, he was upset, but not even at himself like he always did thinking himself trash, no, he was legitimately upset with you. “… Normally people greet their partner with a ‘hello’ or something.” The last thing you were expected to be greeted by your first morning exiled from school was your boyfriend in such a state. “I- No. Y/N, tell me, why?” “… I…” You couldn’t tear your eyes away from him, this new side you had never even thought existed, yet you also couldn’t bear to look at him either so instead you looked to his feet. “I don’t want to lie to you, but… I don’t want to tell you the truth either. But! What I can tell you, is that this is fine, I chose this, I wanted this. So, you don’t have to worry about me, this just means I have even more time to develop my talent.” You tried giving him a smile, but it just ended up strained seeing that didn’t placate him. W-why? He always saw everything ultimates did was amazing and respected even the worst of decisions, yet… he was mad, and sad, and so many other things you couldn’t pinpoint not being able to bring yourself to study his expression for long.
·       “No, this is not fine. What you did is not helping you. This is only a detriment. I-I-I, I just can’t understand! I can’t understand why. How did this turn out so wrong?” “… the other reason.” “Huh?” You spoke so quietly, it was but a whisper, Nagito had just barely caught it. “The other reason… It’s why I NEED a bad reputation, not just something I want for the fun of it.” You sighed, preparing for the inevitable Nagito calling himself trash and you trying to comfort him song and dance. “You’re such a volatile wild card. I never know what you’ll do next. Nagito, you literally tried to blow up a building with people inside, I know your luck probably would have saved them or something or you assumed the ultimates inside would save the day, but… that’s not healthy! You’ve been through so much and need help. I, I want to help you, but I just don’t know what to do. So… to me, the best I can do is try to protect you.” Even as his eyes widened, realizing what happened, you continued. “With a bad reputation, rumors of all sorts, both extreme and little, it can be expected that I can do anything without it being out of character. I can take on anyone’s bad actions and call it my own and all will believe it… Even if I can’t protect you from the insanity that is our life, the very least I can do is protect you from yourself, the consequences of your actions. I can’t get you to at last see yourself as decent, I can’t stop your luck from torturing you, this… this is all I can think of for what I could ever do for you… it’s the only kind of affection I can give without you saying or thinking you’re unworthy of it… though I guess I don’t even have that now, but… I don’t know, maybe this was-”
·       …
·       He hugged you. He didn’t know what to say. He took in everything you said, yet his mind was just blank. He had so much to say, yet he just could… All he could do was just nuzzle into you, one who was just so sweet and kind, and… he needed to better for you, Nagito at least new that for sure.
   Imposter:
·       Imposter wondered how they ever were lucky enough to find a partner like you. They never thought they’d find anyone who could get them to see themselves as a person even without the disguises, let alone a whole class at one point. Yes, they still disguised themselves, but when they were just with you they felt okay to not keep the make-up, wigs and costumes. They were just… whoever they were without being someone else. Their own identity was something they still struggled with but working on it with your helped.
·       Individuals who could stay true to themselves no matter what were people they respected highly, that was probably what got them to fall for you in the first place. No matter who avoided you, the children who cried from seeing your large, buff figure, no matter the sports nuts who insisted on you joining their team, you always were the shy Super High School Level Flower Shop Keep who loved exercising.
·       When they first met you, they were masquerading as Beyakuya Togami, not exactly the most sociable of personalities, so they thought they scared you away. When first meeting a person you didn’t speak much, instead you’d gift flowers and spoke through flower language. “Oh, well… there’s a lot you can say with flowers. I’ve just always liked them. I just like being outside, so I exercise a lot! But then I got toned, and already being on the bulkier side some people find me scary… Ah, but if I give the children flowers, they usually stop crying… unless a bee comes by, then they cry again.” Even though you were so soft spoken when you did speak, it was still rather intimidating. There was just so much power in it.
·       They rather enjoyed how you’d decorate them with your beloved plants, whether it be placing them behind their ear, in their hair, or in their breast pocket. They also adored each bouquet you gave. Very quickly their whole dorm room smelled of fast-food and a light floral perfume. They pressed and kept every last flower, preserving them all even the ones from when you first met.
·       You were so open and honest, even though you tried hiding it they knew when you had a crush on them- or well Beyakuya… They had no identity outside of whoever they were impersonating, but… the thought made their heart ache. So, when you came up to them with giant bouquet filled with tulips, purple roses, red roses, alstroemerias, and baby’s breath they could easily see even as you hid it behind your back, a bright blush on your cheeks, they knew what was happening, and rejected you before you could give them the flowers and confess. You hugged the bouquet close as they explained their situation, and even after, you still held out the flowers to them. “So, your identity is more complex than I knew, but all our time together still happened. And if you change identities, it’ll be like a change in color. Definitely different, even changing the meaning, but the base is still the same, you’ll still remember our time together even as someone else.” And since that moment, no matter what came, you never left them.
   Gundham Tanaka:
·       The moment Gundham met the Super High School Level Vet, Gundham fell head over heels for them. They were an intimidating, brutish, scarred from battles past, every last feature was terrifying, their features sharp, everything about them commanded the respect of all, even getting his Dark Devas to be weary of them at first sight.
·       Caring for animals was a tricky job, it often involved getting scratches and bites, but you also needed to be patient and kind. You needed to be respected but also not appear hostile. A balance you embodied, looking fierce, yet you were so gentle and sensitive to others around you.
·       The pair of you always spent time looking after his many animals, tending to any injuries or illnesses they possibly could have gotten.
·       You also tended to Gundham Tanaka himself, much to his flustered, blushing protest. “I have no such injures of which you speak!” “Tanaka, you can’t even hold a pencil you hand is hurting so bad. Please let me at least look at it.” He kept refusing till some students came by asking if he were alright, fearing the scary looking person who kept looming around him all day. “Pathetic! Of such a low level you can’t even decern one’s true nature!” Then he stomped off till finally he found you. “My Emperor!” “Hey Tana-” “I seek thy aid, for only one of your caliber could even remotely stand a chance of resisting my poisoned skin, let alone tent to the curse that plagues this mortal form!” You just silently stared at him for a moment before you started fussing over him, clutching his jacket since you wanted to hug him. “What happened!? Did it get worse!? Tell me EVERYTHING about how you feel! Do you think it’s infected!? How does it hurt!? Does it sting or burn, or what!?” Gundham himself began to panic, unsure as to how to calm and put you at ease, never before seeing you worried to the point of tears forming in the corners of your eyes! However, you did quickly settle down, getting serious tending to his wound…
·       And even as you did so, you avoided touching him. If you needed to apply ointment, you’d use a q-tip, you’d do anything you could to not touch him… Even you tending to him sent his heart racing, showing vulnerability, he was used to giving the care, not the other way around. He felt vulnerable in a way, he showed you he was hurting, but you were so gentle with him, so aware of him, even stopping and giving him a moment to pause and collect himself.
·       Someone so attentive and understanding… He groaned, embarrassed at how giddy, and excited, and nervous even the mere thought of you made him.
   Kazuichi Soda:
·       He was terrified of you at first, even going so far as to actively avoid you. But then he met you. The moment he did so he was so confused as to how he found you scary? After actually taking to you, he found you, looks and all so adorable! He’d gush to anyone and everyone about how kind and amazing and sweet you were. He’d defend you to the death if a person even made the smallest negative comment about you, much to your complete embarrassment.
·       After becoming your boyfriend Kazuichi would always hang around you, cooing over everything that was you, shattering any intimidating precents you had with the man hugging your arm, speaking in such a sickeningly sweet tone with sparkling eyes.
·       Feeling like the world was against you, Kazuichi spent all his time with you to make up for it. No matter how many times you told him he didn’t have to he insisted on giving you all the affection you so rightly deserve!
·       When you weren’t embarrassed by the man’s antics you’d be just as affectionate in return. As he tinkered on whatever you’d hug him from behind, sighing, and nuzzling into the nape of his neck, tickling him, distracting him from his work. He’d giggle, giddy out of his mind at having someone so sweet and adorable love him almost as much as he loved you!
·       If Kazuichi caught even one person giving you a funny look, he’d just hug and snuggle you with a pout, glaring at others.
·       “Kazu, you don’t have to defend me from everyone. I know I’m not exactly the most approachable looking.” “What!? No! You are gorgeous! Adorable! Beautiful! Don’t self-deprecate yourself!” “I’m not, I just… I know you’re affectionate, but you don’t have to be so protective, I appreciate it, but you don’t have to do this every time. I just want you to enjoy yourself not feel like you have to be my knight in shining armor or something.” “Well, I can’t enjoy myself if others are being jerks!” Kazuichi would never admit it to you, but he felt guilty. He knew what it was like to be bullied, for others to make comments. He also felt guilty for judging you so much before meeting you. he was once scared with a person he instantly fell in love with after finally talking to them. He just wanted to make up for that, he wanted to say he was sorry… And feeling you hug him, thank him for being your knight, he was reminded all over why he loved such a sweet person so much, and he was determined to give you all the love he could to make up from being so cruel before.
   Teruteru Hanamura: part 1
·       Teru had a rather interesting relationship with the new delivery person. You weren’t mean, but your whole aura was rather intimidating with your cold demeanor and with how muscular you were. Yet of all people, you were warm and kind to him. You merrily chat about your day, or about anything. You’d get a laugh out of his flirting, even try and miserably fail at flirting back, something Teru found endlessly endearing. Whatever made Teru special he honestly didn’t care, just enjoying your company so much.
·       After your hard work, well hard for most but for you it was just seemingly light stretches, Teru would cook a hearty meal for you to keep you going for the rest of the day! It was his favorite thing to do before opening the restaurant, just that single quiet moment of enjoying a meal with you.
·       Teru could find something attractive about anyone, but with you… well you were certainly attractive, a stallion, a ten out of ten to him, but he found he so quickly grew feelings for you. True a person’s personality or voice could be sexy but there was something different about it with you. But whatever it was, didn’t matter to him, all he knew was that he just wanted to spend more time with you, and whatever you did together didn’t matter to him, as long as you were together.
·       You sighed, taking another bite. “Is something the matter?” “I’m just going to miss this.” “What?” You didn’t even glance his way, simply continuing to enjoy your meal. “Yeah, I gotta move soon. I’ve actually stayed here much longer than I should, but… I just couldn’t resist sticking around longer ‘cause of you… again.” “Ah, well… that’s too bad. It’s been rather fun having you around.” “It’ll be alright. I know you’ll be fine without me. Actually, I’d like to ask you to make a promise to forget me.” “Forget you!? How in tarn- AH I- Ahem- How could I do that!?” You simply smiled and laughed, just as you did before. You placed a hand on his cheek, gently caressing him with your thumb. “You’re the only person I can call a friend. I know you can keep this promise, that’s just the kind of person you are. Sure, you’re a bit raunchy, but you truly are kind and care for others. You could never let me feel guilty about leaving you behind.” Teru was silent for a moment, just taking in what you said. “When will you be leaving?” “Uh… I should say tomorrow, but I’m thinking a week.” A week? Teru could work with that!
·       “Please go on a date with me!” “… Huh?” In complete bafflement you just let Teruteru take your hands into his, a determined glint in his eyes. “If you’ll be leaving I want to make the most of the time we have left!” “…oh… uh… o-okay, we could do that.”
·       And so, the week was filled with date after date, going all out with no inhibitions doing anything you could think of from watching a movie to sky diving. Wherever you went Teru always had a packed meal on hand for the pair of you to enjoy. It was honestly the best week of either of your lives. And all too quickly it had already passed you by.
·       Standing on the bridge in the park you stood side by side watching the sun rise. “Well, that’s it, I better get going. I really enjoyed this, just as always. Thank you.” “Now hold on a moment, you can’t go just yet!” He held out a small plastic container to you. “You need a good meal for the road! Don’t know where you’re going, but wherever it is, it’d be a downright shame if I left you hungry along the way!” You simply stared at him for a moment before the softest, most earnest of smiles he had ever seen creased your lips. So tenderly you took the container. “… Some things never change I suppose… At least I know you can still keep that promise.” Then without so much as explaining your strange words, you disappeared as if you never even were there. It was sad for Teru, yet something in him knew he’d see you again, and that thought let him go back to his everyday life as if you never appeared, yet after that life just seemed more lively to him, just like those later years back in Hope’s Peak, though as to why that time seemed livelier he couldn’t quite remember.
  Nekomaru Nidai:
·       Being a rather intimidating looking guy with a heart of gold, Nekomaru took to understanding your situation quickly. Both of you being athletic and getting rather larger builds it just kinda naturally happened.
·       Being the exceedingly kind individual you were others often took advantage of that. Even if you knew it was bad you couldn’t bring yourself to not help others in need for even the smallest of things. This was not something Nekomaru could stand, but finding you standing out in the rain for two days straight was the last straw and the man insisted on training you! You were a bit nervous at first not wanting to take up so much of your best friend’s time, but with some reassurances Nekomaru managed to warm you up, both literally and metaphorically to the training.
·       At some point the training turned into days out, going hiking up mountains, or jogging on beaches, swimming in lakes and doing crossfit, sometimes going out for walks in the night, exploring the city looking for things to do, perhaps some karaoke, some slow dancing by moon light, and yeah you two just ended up dating without meaning too.
·       The pair of you always came up with excuses like the slow dancing was training in balance, no you totally did not want to dance because it was a beautiful night and you could hear ballroom music not far in the distance, no that was totally not it, that’d be dumb… or so you kept telling yourself in these moments so you would not confess to the man fearing he really did only see these outings as training and nothing else.
·       That was till you overheard Nekomaru chatting with his classmates, one of them asking how his ‘date’ with you went and he spoke of your beautiful hike up the mountains, not even batting an eye at their wording. Did… did he not notice, or just not care? Did this mean he liked you too? Or did you mishear? Quickly getting frustrated with this line of thinking you decided to just settle this!
·       “There you are-” “I have something to tell you!” The man silently stood there, just waiting. Okay, this was it, and you took a deep breath. “I… I REALLY LIKE YOU!” “I REALLY LIKE YOU TOO! YOU ARE A CHERISHED FRIEND OF MINE!” “NO, I MEAN- I-I-I LOVE YOU, I THINK!? I DON’T KNOW!” “I LOVE YOU TOO, A LOT IN FACT!” “N-NOT AS MUCH AS I LOVE YOU!” “OH YEAH!?” “YES! SO MUCH!”
·       Screaming your feelings for one another was a very common occurrence in the relationship. Even if one of you simply caught sight of the other off in the distance you’d yell ‘I love you’s, which more often than not scared or startled the people around you hearing such loud, booming voices out of nowhere.
·       Life with Nekomaru could be a bit much at times, but it was well worth it for such an amazing guy.
   Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu:
·       You were perfect for him.
·       You didn’t have any reputation really, but wherever you went people knew not to mess with you. Your mere presents not much but if one got close, they could feel this unsettling air about you making them go away. You, being the Super High School Level Street Fighter knew how to defend yourself from most attackers so Fuyuhiko didn’t have to worry about your safety like he’d have to with most others like the majority of his old classmates like Hajime.
·       You were also the most kind and sweet person he had met. Behind closed doors you’d always have you arms open for Fuyuhiko. You’d hold him close, just let him listen to your steady heartbeat and make him feel so safe and secure. His favorite thing was to just cuddle with you.
·       He also liked you being by his side, it served a dual purpose. One: if somehow when meeting some rival gang his reputation didn’t precede him, you were enough to intimidate them at a glance, despite his own baby face. The second and much more important to him, just being with you. True you were well equipped to handle yourself, but you were still human can had come back home to him plenty of times with new scars not from your usual fights, so by your side he and Peko could protect you.
·       He also liked how you were with his subordinates. You were strict, showing no signs of weakness, more than willing to put them in their place should it be needed, yet that didn’t stop you from being kind. You’d do research for days on end trying to find the perfect birthday gift them. You’d train their kids by hand in all ways of fighting, but not for attacking but self-defense, their parents were in a dangerous job so your ‘day job’ of being a children’s fighting instructor helped to place their minds at ease a little.
·       If he could he’d go on for hours singing your praises. You were perfect for him in every single way without a single doubt.
(sdr2 chapter 4 spoilers)
ok people liked my previous ramble about chapter 4 so i wanna mention some more thoughts i had about it because i think about it a lot i think about it so much i managed to make it not a discomfort anymore because it used to make me really sad but i liked the writing so much that it just stopped making me feel upset lol ?? anyways
there's this one thing i noticed. that i haven't seen anyone point out and maybe everyone noticed and i'm just stupid but i. really like the specific dynamic they set up for the victim and blackened, in this case nekomaru and gundham in this chapter.
because i sat down and started thinking about it once, and i realized that when you think about it, those two are like polar opposites. one keeps to himself, he acts like he's evil, he pushes people away, he hates humanity, he's a big bad overlord and he's dangerous, watch out for him! whereas the other one encompasses the polar opposite, almost playing a hero role. nekomaru does Not keep to himself and approaches people at will, he's loud, he's outspoken, he pulls people closer rather than push away and fuck he'll even give you a massage if you want that. he motivates and trains and helps people when he sees the chance to, he'll manage you and your team and he's by your side and he's like a walking solar flare.
but of course, it's a lot more complex than that, but in the chapter they're almost playing roles. the hero will duel the bad guy, who's trying to kill him. the hero will kill the bad guy. except he didn't, and this time the bad guy won and he killed the hero out of evil oh my god what a horrible guy what's wrong with him?
except it's not like that. and this brings me to my next point which is that despite being direct opposites on the surface... they boil down to the exact same thing; kindness.
i'm sure it's clear to everyone that gundham is, in fact, NOT an evil and terrible overlord that hates all of humanity! and i'm sure i don't need to explain how. we find out that in truth this wasn't a big bad supervillain murdering a hero but instead, it was a sacrifice. one that didn't come from disdain but rather the want to get everyone out of here, because he does, in fact, actually care about the humans around him and he just couldn't stand to watch everyone just give up life and drop dead like flies from starvation.
and then nekomaru's role comes in, which most people ignore as i talked about before. he wasn't a victim, actually. not at all. although he could've still been a victim despite gundham's motives, he wasn't. the duel was something he agreed to. like gundham sacrificed himself by entering a duel in which both would end up dead in some way, so did nekomaru. he, like gundham, was willing to throw his life, no, his second life away for the sake of getting everyone out of there.
and gundham picked him, on purpose because he KNEW that. he understood nekomaru would be someone who would know what's important and throw his life on the line for everyone's sake. he would agree with his vision and they would essentially commit a double sacrifice because he knew they both understood it was necessary. and this is where their outside contrast actually boils down to just. kindness.
they were both willing to do something they could never take back for the sake of everyone's lives. they're both really kind people, but they express it differently, one withdrew to himself because of life long struggles to communicate to others and because, as it's very briefly hinted at, someone, or some people have hurt him in the past so just being "evil" and pushing everyone away is easier to deal with. but despite everything in the outside, in his core he is one of the kindest people. tending to animals being one of his passions, his favorite kind of animal being the ones that are "very cute" (direct quote) and he'd force himself to eat his mother's awful cooking that "poisoned" him because he just couldn't stand seeing her cry, and most of all, willing to die to save everyone out of a horrid situation, because he really does care.
and the other did the very opposite, as a result of his condition which meant he would likely be dead soon, he decided to shift all of his energy into motivation, communication and helping others because he will probably not be able to help himself forever. he was accostumed to the sense of impending or possible death because it was never out of reach for him. so he did things like giving everything he had to help and support everyone to provide some hope of escaping the killing game. he sacrificed himself not once, but twice, once he was basically dead but was given a new form he deemed it more important to sacrifice his last chance of life instead of keeping it to himself for the sake of getting everyone out of the funhouse. and he didn't hold back, he was vocal about it and was constantly coaching and motivating and he poured his heart onto the cause of helping others.
so different, yet so similar, at the end of the day, all they wanted to do was help. and help they did! they got what they wanted at the end of it all. and it turns out everyone was, in fact, alright in the end. well they're not doing Well but at least no one is dead. and this is why sdr2 chapter 4 is probably one of if not my favorite chapter in this franchise. it really shows what the writers can do when they really try. it's not perfect - nothing is - but i find it to be golden. and i appreciate these two characters and their dynamic so much.
tbh, as the years pass, I need to admit, the main reason I don't like Kaito isn't even his fault, I mean, I like Souda, one of my faves in sdr2 and they have A LOT in common. I do not need my faves to be nice and agreeable, I mostly like them a little fucked up, actually.
But the narrative & the fact that I've been in the fandom since before v3 came out... I've seen too much. In canon we never get even a hint of Kaito trying to change himself, what he does is try to make others more like him. Salmon mode lets you convince Tenko that Not All Men, you're never told Kaito is anything but an example for Shuichi to follow and. And then there's fanon, being there for the early everybody-needs-to-have-a-hot-take stage has ruined any and all possibility for me ever liking the guy: too many people acting like he's a saint, waxing poems about how great and right Kaito was in everything and getting straight up violent in denial of the pointed out homophobia or any criticism actually, the absolute fuckery of Kaito fans vs Kokichi fans where they just said "you're a Kokichi fan" as a counter to all opinions they didn't like, it was the "ok, boomer" of the fandom discourse, as a visible Kokichi fan you'd be often put in the hot seat and expected to defend your opinion, then the parallels between the two would come up and they'd shut you down real fast, no defense just denial, playing defense is exclusively for the other side of the argument, and when they did ship them it was "Kaito could fix Kokichi", "canon didn't happen :)", "Headcanoning him as gay and trans fixes the entire problem, it's completely unreasonable if you dislike him for writer's views, yeah those aren't his views they just made him act on them, this statement makes sense uwu".
You're right that the dynamic could be fun (P.S. Kaito still would be unattractive tho, the opposite of what I want to look at, but funny), unfortunately the fandom made sure to traumatize me so thoroughly that seeing him next to a character I like, and sometimes even just thinking about him for a bit too long, upsets me enough to effectively disrupt my day, when talking about it like I just did I take my time, stop several times and distract myself for a bit to stay calm, do something else so I don't start crying or go on a rant covering everything I already said one more time, I am so tense right now, and too hot, I paced for quite a bit. With how many times I have talked about my feelings regarding Kaito, you'd think I do that every time I think of him, but the truth is most of the time I just try to recover as soon as I can instead of digging into this, a lot of the time it happens when I couldn't even if I wanted to, because I will get lost in thought some time late at night or when I am out and I'll end up going through my shit list just because brain loves self-torturing when alone, and this topic is nearly on par with the personal ex-bestie saga I don't actually talk about (you know it's extra messy when even I don't make it public in front of random people who didn't ask)
tbh more people need to understand that kaitos (internalized) homophobia is part of what makes oumota so damn fun.
So I did the random word generator, and I got paper. And that made me think of paper airplanes. So, how about reader making a paper airplane and throwing it through the SDR2 Boys window, and inside the paper airplane is a love letter confessing reader’s feelings toward them.
T h a n k you for this bc I gotta practice writing the bois. I absolutely love writing these types of scenarios owo
..........
Teruteru
“Oh? What could this be~?” The chef noticed the paper airplane that appeared on the floor of his cottage, picking it up.
It was only then he noticed his partially opened window and chuckled. For him, it was easy to put two-and-two together.
“Ah, how cliche. Do I have a secret admirer on this island? Perhaps they wanna share all their secrets with me~?” The thoughts running through his mind almost made his nose bleed, though he managed to control himself as he unfolded the plane to read its contents.
And it turned out to be a simple love letter from you--short, sweet, and innocent. You even marked it with a heart at the bottom of the page.
Teruteru’s face became tomato-red as he clutched the letter to his chest, before hurrying out of his cottage and to the hotel restaurant, unable to contain his excitement any longer.
“I’m on my way, my new beloved~!!” He trilled, knowing you’d be waiting for him there.
...............
Gundham
“Huh..so this is what the mighty winds have carried into my domain.” Gundham mused as he looked at the paper airplane that somehow landed on his bed. He looked outside for a moment, wondering who could have sent it--but there was no one.
“A mysterious messenger, hm..what do you think, Cham-P?” He glanced at the large golden hamster on his shoulder, seeing his nod of approval. “Fuhaha! Then it’s decided! Now..let us see what this message entails.”
With a hum, he unfolded the note and read it thoroughly, gawking about halfway through it.
“...wh-what...this...is this...a-a proclamation of love?!” He tugged his scarf over his blushing face. “But..who could love such a....ah..” Then he reached the bottom of the note and saw it was none other than-
“[Y/n], but of course. There’s...a certain aura to them that..I can’t help but feel enchanted by,” he muttered to himself. “But I shall harden my heart until I know this proclamation is true, lest I turn out to be a blind fool..”
With that declaration, he got up and summoned the Dark Devas to his side, before venturing out of his cottage, clutching the note tightly.
............
Kazuichi
“AH!! I’VE BEEN AMBUSHED!!”
The scream made you stop in your tracks as you looked back, seeing the door fly open and a certain mechanic come rushing out.
“[Y/n]! Thank god you’re here!” His hands flew onto your shoulders. “I got hit by an object!! I-I think someone was tryna kill me!!”
‘Oh boy..’ You thought, realizing that your plan didn’t go accordingly. “Well, did you see what the object was?”
“N-No...but...what does it matter?!!”
“.....wouldn’t it help to find out what it was if you’re convinced it was attempted murder?”
“..that’s true. C’mon. I don’t wanna go back alone.” Kazuichi dragged you into his cottage, making sure he locked the door once inside. “It came through that window, hitting me in the back of the head....damn it. I just wanted fresh air and I can’t even get that!” Then he shut the window with a huff.
“Was it this?”
Looking back, he saw the paper airplane in your hand. “Yeah-!! Wait...a paper airplane? Seriously? That’s what attacked me?”
“I sent this.”
“...so YOU attacked me?!”
“I didn’t mean to!” You snapped, causing him to fall silent, before you unfolded it and handed it to him. “It’s a letter...for you. It’s got nothing to do with murder, I promise.”
He cautiously took the paper and read it, mumbling to himself. By the time he was done, his face became red. “[Y/n]...is this true?” He looked up at you with a toothy grin and stars in his eyes. “You like me??!!”
“Yeah..” You smiled back. “Though I was hesitant to send it since, y’know....you had eyes on Sonia-”
“Oh! Don’t worry, I only admire Miss Sonia from afar!” He explained. “As the princess she is, I only wanna respect and defend her. Nothing more! I-I’ve honestly...liked you for a while too. My bad for not reading this sooner.”
“It’s okay,” you chuckled. “At least I have my answer.”
...............
Fuyuhiko
“Sheesh, try not to poke my other eye out next time, okay?”
“Wh-Wha..” You spun around to see the Ultimate Yakuza, realizing he was clutching the note--that was once a paper airplane--in his hand. “Sorry, Fuyu..I had no idea where it would land so I uh...booked it. Kinda. How did you know-?”
“Saw you taking off before this even got into my room,” he explained. “I still got one good eye to keep a lookout for things.”
“..ah, I see..” You rubbed your neck awkwardly. “So um...you must’ve read it.”
“It’s laughably cliche, but...I...uh...d-do feel the same way as you..” Fuyuhiko mumbled the last part, but you could hear his confession clear as day, and your eyes lit up.
“R-Really? I mean...I...I wasn’t sure, since I know you’re still trying to move on from-”
“It’s okay.” He sighed, looking back at you. “It..hasn’t been easy, but..you were the first to forgive me after that trial. Even though...I acted like a total shithead to you when we first got here. Still feel kinda bad about it..”
Your racing heart eventually calmed itself, as you smiled gently and approached him. “It’s okay. If..you wanna make up for it, maybe we can..uh..hang out at the movie theater sometime today?”
“Tch, like a first date?” He chuckled. “Alright. I’m in.”
............
Nekomaru
“[Y/N]!!”
The booming voice made you nearly slam the mailbox door on your hand. You had a habit of checking it mornings and nights.
You whirled around to see Nekomaru rush over to you, a wide grin on his face as he clutched a certain note in his large hand. “I have received your confession letter and accept it wholeheartedly!!”
“R-Really?” You gawked. “Just like that..?”
“Of course!” He laughed. “Your method of delivery is unique! Very old-school. And clearly you’ve put all of your heart and soul into this letter. If I were to ever reject that hard work, my name wouldn’t be-!!”
“Nekomaru Nidai?” You chuckled, feeling calmer now that he was serious.
“See? You already know me better than I know myself!” The Ultimate Team Manager grinned as he hugged you to his chest. “Can you hear that? My heart is beating with great spirit and love!!”
“Yeah, I definitely hear it loud and clear.” Smiling, you hugged him back, happier than ever.
...............
Twogami
When Byakuya found a paper airplane on his desk, he didn’t know what to think at first.
This was childish at best--sneakily throwing it through the window and then taking off? If one of the others wanted to talk to him about something, then they should’ve just rang the doorbell.
Surely he wasn’t that intimidating of a leader...even if some didn’t like it.
But curiosity eventually won over everything else, and so he took the paper, realizing there was a message on it. “Hmm, very strange..” He hummed, opening it to read what it said.
And he swore his heart stopped, realizing this was a confession and the sender was....you?
Did you really think of him that way? Even though..he hasn’t fully told you the truth about his Ultimate?
And if he did, would you still send him something like this?
.............
Hajime
Hajime didn’t know why he woke up earlier before the morning announcement--until he noticed something right next to his face. “Huh..? What’s this?”
Sitting upright, he picked up the object. “Oh, a paper airplane. Haven’t seen one of these in forever.”
With a small chuckle, he unfolded it, having noticed letters on the inside of it--and also a red heart, oddly enough. He read the message written and...his heart began racing as he realized this was a love letter.
Even though he had his suspicions, he couldn’t believe someone on this island would love a talent-less person like himself.
Why?
As he read the sender’s name, Hajime jumped as he heard a knock on his door. He quickly stuffed the note under his pillow before going to answer it--seeing you on the other side.
“A-Ah..[y/n]..hi. Thank you for knocking..” He tried to play it cool, tugging on his shirt collar awkwardly, though you just smiled.
“I take it you read it already?”
“What? Oh! Uh..yeah..” The poor boy’s face grew redder by the second.
“I thought the paper airplane idea was too childish, so...I figured I’d come here and confess myself. But...seems I’m a little too late for that.” You chuckled nervously. “So....?”
“I-I don’t know what to say..” He admitted. “Why me? I’m the most ordinary out of everyone here.”
“Oh. Hajime.” With a small laugh, you took his hand into yours. “Because it’s you that I feel happiest around..all those times we’ve spent together..meant a lot. I had fun and I’d like to do more of them with you.”
“A-As..your boyfriend you mean?” Hajime gulped, smiling as he tried retaining his composure. “Sure. I’d..love to do that.”
............
Nagito
“Heh..I never would’ve guessed a nobody like me was at the center of someone’s heart..”
“Uh, I’m right here, Nagito.”
“Oh I know.” The white-haired male chuckled as he spun around on his heel, facing you. He looked down at the love letter you had cleverly disguised as a paper airplane. “But..come to think of it..Mikan’s words had me a bit...crushed..”
You tilted your head, remembering the third trial. “You mean, when she said-?”
“That I had nobody who loved me? Well, it seems she was wrong about that.” His smile seemed to stretch wider as he put the letter in his pocket. “I guess I can’t call myself a stepping stone anymore..now that I have a new purpose--one that fills me with a much greater hope!” He wheezed out a small laugh.
While his laughter usually unnerved the other students, you could only smile and feel your heart grow warmer whenever you heard it.
“Yes, yes..perhaps this was the love she was talking about.” Nagito put a hand to his chest. “But this love wasn’t born from despair.”
“Nah, that’s just a twisted sense of love.” You reached out to take his other hand into yours, bringing him slightly closer to you. “This is real, genuine love.”
His face became a bit flushed, though it wasn’t from the despair disease, but from the simple realization that..
He was lucky enough to be loved.
..........
Izuru
“So, instead of talking to me, you sent this.”
“Oh!” You turned around to see the “Ultimate Hope” standing before. There was an open note in his hand that you tried to deliver to his room in the form of a paper airplane.
The keyword is “tried”, as he was quick to call out to you before you had the chance to run away. So you felt embarrassed, especially as he skimmed over your letter.
After a long and awkward silence, Izuru finally looked up at you. His face remained blank, though you could tell he was curious about your message.
“Yep, that’s my uh..confession.” With a sigh, you approached him calmly. “I know..love is something foreign to you, but...I figured I’d take my chances. Even if the world’s gone to shit, I had to at least get this off my chest. And before you ask...no, it’s not because of your talents.”
“....I see.” He muttered, his gaze returning to the letter. “You understand what I am and what I’ve done, and yet...huh...?” Then he put a hand to his chest, stunned for a moment as he felt his heartbeat slightly quicken.
Wait..
His heart?
What was happening to him?
What is this?
“Huh, they might’ve suppressed your old feelings. But..not all of them, it seems.”
He wasn’t sure what to say to that exactly.
This was something he definitely couldn’t have predicted.
sigh.. ready to sob everyone??? Or just feel hurt hahaha me too 💔
Tumblr media
Sdr2 boys with an s/o who gets killed in the killing game.
All feelings were hurt in this imagine
Hajime Hinata
it was an promise.
An promise that he would protect you no matter what happened and survive this nightmare together.
before the day you got killed you and hajime were talking on were you both wanted to go when you escaped this island.
You said you wanted to go Kyoto and go look at the beautiful shrines and the city with him.
it was an beautiful moment.
Then you went on you way back to your cottage.
Unaware of the person following you.
The next day as he went to the daily meetings at the beach house
You weren’t there.
Mahiru was going out to get you until he and the rest heard her screaming.
Oh nonononononononononono
Please god no
not you please
Oh
but.. there is never hope on this island enough..
He looked at your dead body.
it was near the wall were your blood was at, you looked so scared..
while he was sleeping peacefully you were afraid, dying..
and it was all his fault.
If only he haven’t left you or asked you to stay a little longer.
if only.
...
He was going to find YOUR killer.
No
Matter
What.
Nagito Komenda
he really never thought you were going to be an stepping stone for hope.
never ever thought it was going to be you.
But it happened.
Your body was found in the dinner.
somebody wanted to escape so badly
That they stabbed every single pounce of your body. For what.
Nagito laughed with an devilish grin.
But also tears flooding on his face.
“Wow a-another stepping stone for help, hahaha-“
Somehow everybody looked at sadness for him.
Sure he was.. crazy.
But you loved him no matter what.
You stayed with him no matter what.
You always bonk him when he calls himself trash and tells him that his not and he’s perfect, beautiful, and amazing..
so somehow everybody looked it in sympathetic ways.
You didn’t deserve this.
He deserves to be killed.
Due to his luck he found out the killer.
Which if I had to say.. was something.
Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu
Him and peko were walking around looking for you.
well actually everyone was.
You wasn’t in your cottages anywhere else.
then he remembered from yesterday.
“Fuyu! I’m going to the beach house and grab us some drinks!”
“Stay safe, you don’t know if somebody would attack you”
“Oh fuyu! I’ll be fine... hopefully.”
if only if he asked peko to look out.
But he trusts you that you were going to be ok.
There’s no way your dead-
Then he found your body in the beach house.
he screamed to gain the attention of peko and the others.
which when they all came they saw you dead on the floor.
It looks like you got throat slit which killed you instantly in fear.
”Alright which one of you fuckers did this shit”
he couldn’t cry where everyone can see him so he cried when at your body since everybody left to go to the class trial.
which he was fired up to find out your killer.
When hajime found out your killer
He ALMOST became the blackened since he almost murdered them without peko and hajime holding him back.
he really does wish he was with you.
Or stopped you.
But he’s going to move on..
for you.
Kazuichi Soda
one day he was regularly talking (simping) about Sonia
then the next day he was stuck to you.
(Sonia was actually happy that he moved on)
anyways you guys started dating
he was really actually super happy with the days spent with you.
like an small baby duck following you
soon enough you went outside as usual to see your mailbox glowing-
which leads you too your death.
Kazu was on his way to get some coconuts from that coconut tree.
then when he got to the beach he found your body.
and screamed-
“SOMEBODY HELP ME”
he was shaking your dead body while somebody came, which was peko who went to get the others.
then the body discovery went off as he still shakes your dead body and yelling at you to wake up.
but you never did
Gundham Tanaka
you don’t know how you end up like this.
as you were under the table looking for the knife.
then soon you felt an small thing stabbing you.
oh how it hurts...
then you fell into deep sleep... but forever
(well when the simulation was over with for good)
when the lights came back cham-p and hajime found your body...
oh.
everyone was in shock.
somebody killed someone as sweet and kind as you?
the dark deva’s sense his sadness and cuddled him.
trying to make him feel better.
but it worked at little bit but nobody saw him like this.
never.
he really wishes his power was strong enough to stop it.
he really does.
Nekomaru Nidai
even if hes strong enough to protect you.
he really couldn’t.
the thought of your death was unthinkable.
because, he would protect you.
but...
your body was found.
and he could do anything about it, but he couldn’t now.
because your gone.
and he had failed you when you needed it the most.
your final moments.
Byakuya Twogami
when seeing an dead body.
the normal byakuya would just look away and scoffed.
but since then he’s not byakuya togami.
he’s just the imposter.
the ultimate imposter.
when they found your body he really needs to keep his strength up since he’s the leader, right?
he’s not going to break down in front of everyone, that can show his weaknesses as an leader.
but oh how he dreads on how your final moments are.
he really does.
even when he told you the truth, you still loved him no matter what.
you truly did love him.
you truly did...
Teruteru Hanamura
it was an mistake.
an mistake I tell you.
he really thought he killed nagito.
but instead.
he got to you instead.
you just wanted to protect everyone.
he wanted to protect everyone from nagito
but he killed you.
HE KILLED YOU
oh the regret he had when he saw your x-marked spot
and the regret he felt when he didn’t know what happened to his mom, the diner, and especially.
that he killed you.
as his final moments were.
I’m in painnnnn
super anti-komahina salt
and this is to go further beyond
I saw a komahina fan post a write-up and it just irritates me so I want to break it down:
“If you think Komaeda is batshit insane or that his character is only about his obsession with hope and you interpreted Hinata's feelings about Komaeda as just hate of course it wouldn't make sense. Except neither of these are true for their characters.”
This is the basic surface-level narrative Komahina fans argue against, and fair enough, it’s a massive generalisation. But this argument also just irritates me because it implies everyone who doesn’t ship them do so because they don’t understand the characters well enough.
“long story short Komaeda's obsesses over hope as a coping mechanism, because it's the only thing he can cling to.”
I can agree with this in a way, but in my opinion I don’t think he’s so weak that it’s impossible for him break free from that mindset (during the game) if he really wants to.
“Komaeda doesn't like Hinata because he thinks he is talented and above him, Komaeda says he loves all ultimates but it's not real love. His love for Hinata is different. In the SDR2 drama CD he mentions that he loves Hinata because he tries to understand him.”
I can agree with this. Although the Drama CD is literally just the Free Time Events, I don’t think it’s some kind of ‘gotcha’ like people think it’d be.
But also keep in mind, yes, Hajime tries to give Nagito a chance and doesn’t immediately run away screaming because scary person he can’t understand, but Hajime also doesn’t particularly act more saintly than all the other kids towards Nagito after Chapter 1. Nekomaru and Kazuichi seem to at least try to hear Nagito out before they punch him in the face. Mahiru seems like she was the first one to consider giving him breakfast. Hajime tries to stop Akane from attacking him after the Chapter 1 trial, but mostly because he’s resigned to the fact it won’t change what he did, and he then changes his mind and gets pissed off when Nagito decides to taunt him about his amnesia in response. And it’s Sonia who finally settles everyone down. So yes, Hajime tries to understand Nagito, but in the actual plot itself that’s not a special trait unique to him.
It’s only ‘unique’ if you choose to do the Free Time Events, and the Free Time Events...are basically not canon. They’re more like a what-if scenario the player chooses to view, and the dialogue was written from that perspective.
As in, maybe it’s canon that they’d interact like that if they spent time together on the island, but it’s not canon that Hajime does and wants to do that during the story. Because you can do them for everyone.
“And they reach a mutual understanding in DR3 because the two of them are more alike than Hinata would like to admit.”
Um...
Well, this is why DR2.5 is bullshit
I agree they’re similar, but I think both of them knew this from the very beginning. It’s not exactly a reason for reconciliation and forgiveness. The fact they have similarities is the exact reason why Hajime is so upset at his betrayal, and snaps back at Nagito every time he brings that up. So I don’t know if that’s really a good reason to explain why they’ve forgiven each other come DR3.
“Komaeda doesn't see himself as above untalented reserves either, because in 2-4, after realizing the truth about Hinata he says that they are the same, stepladders for hope. He was lashing out at all the students for being despair. They are similar, because they both share the same views that talent is everything.”
And then Hajime gets his character development for the rest of the game all so he can realise talent isn’t everything. So...?
“Now from Hinata's end, a lot of people seem to miss this about him, but he is someone who denies his feelings when they get inconvenient, he is called a tsundere by monokuma”
I guess this is a diss against the surface-level people and people who are like “but the text literally says this”. But even then, the game literally shows Hajime’s inner thoughts. If he’s conflicted about things, the text generally shows that too, even if it’s with a careful inclusion of a ‘...’
So I don’t think we should take that trait as an excuse to literally ignore what the text says.
He was felt pumped when Komaeda was out of critical condition, but he thinks "why do I have to feel pumped, oh well best not to think about it"....because Hinata likes to avoid facing things that inconvenient him. Hinata finds it hard to trust Komaeda and doesn't play along with him, because he is afraid of getting caught in his pace, and not because he hates him and thinks he is better off dead.
This part literally read like a high-schooler’s english essay, and maybe this kid actually is a high-schooler, tbh. Because that is one big leap from “Hajime finds it difficult to deal with his feelings” to “since Hajime finds it difficult to deal with Nagito, it means he doesn’t hate him”.
“I don't think Komaeda is a fundametally bad person but is shaped to be what he is because of his luck cycle. In his last FTE, Hinata asks what Komaeda would do if didn't have his luck cycle, and his answer was something along the lines of " a normal life, devoid of hope and despair". And we get to that his innermost desires is to live a normal life in the OVA, and his character song zansakura zanka.”
He can also just decide to not believe in his luck cycle.
Also, in the OVA, he’s embarrassed by that inner desire and tells World Destroyer he hopes no one saw that maybe he wishes for a world without talent.
Like his desire to be a good person is so hidden that he doesn’t want people to know.
“Hinata even mentions Komaeda isn't trying to trick anyone for selfish reasons in his report card, so it's a shame to see so many people attribute all of Komaeda's actions to malice just because of what Hinata thought of him in chapter 5 because it wasn't clear what Komaeda's reasons were at that point.”
Okay, a few things to unpack here:
Just because Nagito is doing things ‘for the greater good’, doesn’t mean it’s not also selfish. Hajime isn’t going to say that because Hajime doesn’t realise that. You can’t exactly trust him with being able to articulate everything about a character’s worldview. Izuru would. He probably does in Chapter 0. (And that’s why he seems disgusted by him).
Also, there’s “maybe Hajime is a slightly unreliable narrator because he tries to avoid thinking about difficult things”, and there’s “actually, the majority of how Hajime views Chapter 5 is unreliable because he didn’t know for sure if Nagito’s plan was malicious or not, it was just his gut feeling”.
What about the video message after Chapter 5? What about having to spell out ‘KILL US ALL’? What about Chapter 0 showing how in the real world Nagito had completely lost it? It’s not like the game was trying to present Nagito as any little bit more sympathetic after the trial. If anything, every piece of new info reinforced that mindset Nagito was filled with malice, up to the ‘fake Makoto’ saying that he somewhat understood him. The fake Hope made by Junko to trick them.
If you compare Chapter 5 in 2 to Chapter 5 in V3, you can see how the positioning is different. V3 does the “the villain tries to make himself look the worst he can in the mind of the heroes when in reality his real intentions were different” a lot better. More flat-out intentionally - the protagonist kind of literally giving a monologue about how the character was morally grey and even at the end there they couldn’t say they knew their true intentions. But also it’s just not as...sinister as 2-5. No ominous chanting, no dismembered limbs, none of the characters feeling completely out of their element and terrified. I think it’s text that Nagito is supposed to be villainous in Chapter 5 and even past Chapter 5.
So...
I can at least understand where Komahina comes from, but god it annoys me
Unpacking it like this, I can see it’s not even fair to argue back a lot of it - the stuff people are saying do make sense and are arguing against kinds of people I have seen.
Besides, I’m not arguing Komahina ‘can’t be canon’.
My view is just I think Hajime deserves better than a character like Nagito, who never repented for his actions on-screen or even gave much of a hint that he wanted to repent for his actions.
And that it’s still easy to argue that Nagito is a bad person even with his trauma.
Not everyone who calls Nagito an awful person is an idiot who doesn’t know how to read text past the surface, you can still make a nuanced take with that conclusion
for god’s sake
lucky to have you
Just a quick little Kokichi one-shot. For whatever reason, my post of the SDR2 boys imagines with the whole, “I was just thinking about how lucky I am to have you” prompt has been consistently been doing numbers. The majority of my notifications are for that one post. But it’s also understandable, seeing as I haven’t been very active. Anyway, I though it’d be kind of unjust to not write that prompt for Kokichi since he’s my favorite character of Danganronpa, so I gave it a try a while back, maybe a month ago, and did something small. Under the cut!
You sat across the table from Ouma, studying him curiously. The two of you were playing poker in an unusual switch up of activities, and he was, of course, winning. After all, he was born to lie and managed to deceive even the most skeptical. In games, he excelled further with the opportunity to manipulate others.
But you never minded. If you ever had, you wouldn’t have been able to be sitting here, across from him: the person you loved most. That thought was rather depressing.
You were running your gaze over every one of his features, drinking him in. There was so much of him that you had yet to know, and you were excited to learn more—more about the mischievous and yet all-too-endearing trickster. There wasn’t a day that went by that you didn’t feel grateful for his presence by your side.
“Hello? Are you going to go?” he groused, sticking out his bottom lip childishly. “I’ve been waiting forever, and all you’ve been doing is staring at me!”
You blinked rapidly, remembering you were still in the middle of playing poker with him. It would be foolish to be lost in thought about Ouma and the possibilities of a future with him when the real person was right in front of you.
“Sorry,” you quickly apologized with an easy smile. “Just zoned out for a moment there.”
You slapped down a card, still smiling a little. You couldn’t keep your smile off your lips when it came to him. Except, it was rather misleading of you to be smiling during a poker game.
Another few moves later, and the game ended. For once, you’d won.
“What? You had such a trash hand, and you were grinning so happily!” Ouma exclaimed, frowning at the cards on the table. “What were you smiling about, anyway, huh? You have some nerve to be distracted during our quality time together.” He crossed his arms and leaned back in his chair, surveying you thoughtfully.
“Ehehe… Oops?” you offered with a sheepish look on your face. “That was an accident. The smile, I mean. I started thinking about something else.”
Ouma huffed, narrowing his purple eyes sharply.
“And what could you be thinking about that’s more important than this?” Then, he smirked. “Oh, you sure were staring at me a lot, though. Were you thinking about me? Were you just too enamored to think straight, hm?”
He had his shit-eating face on, and you just knew he would lord the truth over you. But you answered before you could stop yourself, and perhaps it was for the better, anyway.
“Yeah, that’s right. I was thinking about you. I was thinking about how lucky I am to have you.”
Ouma’s face dropped, almost comically so. He must not have been expecting such an honest answer from you, but he recovered quickly. Practically leaping out of his chair, he skipped to your side and threw his arms around you, crushing the air out of your chest.
“Aww,” he cooed. “You’re so sweet. But you know, if you want to spend more time with me, you can just say so.” He peered at your face with a smile stretching wide across his pale face, a smile that you could never get enough of. “You know I’ll oblige if it’s my dear s/o’s request, right? Nishishi.”
You caught your breath and placed a hand on his arm gently, turning just a little so you could see him better.
“I know, but it’s nice to hear you say that,” you admitted. “But seriously, I was really thinking about how lucky I am to have you.”
You could see a hint of pink on his cheeks, a little unlike his usual self, all composed and carefully manipulated actions. Even if his mouth lied, sometimes his expressions would tell the truth, and you found that gap to be just another part of him that you loved.
Ouma leaned down and kissed your forehead softly, a mere brush of his lips and yet somehow just as affectionate as every other kiss he’s given you.
“Yeah, that’s right,” he blustered. “You’re incredibly lucky to have me, the Ultimate Supreme Leader, at your service and not only that but your partner.”
You tugged on his sleeve lightly, chuckling.
“Not just because you’re the Ultimate Supreme Leader, though that definitely comes with its perks. Because you’re Kokichi Ouma, and you make my everyday colorful and warm.”
His hold on you seemed to slacken slightly, and when you looked over to see what’s up, you found that he was frozen.
Huh. Never thought he’d react in such a cute way to your words. You were now determined to tell him all this and more from every day forward.
Spoiler Warning!!! - This review will contain spoilers for all of SDR2 and the first chapter of DRV3 as well as slight spoilers for DR1. You’ve been warned.
I see no god up here other than me
Gundham Tanaka- His name is GUNDHam TaNAKA
Sonia Nevermind- This is my third time typing this rant. I literally don’t know why people hate her so much?? There are two main arguments that I’ve come across. The first is that she is boring and shouldn’t have survived, but that’s the same as Asahina and everyone seems to love her. (Don’t get me wrong, I also love her, but all she had were donuts and her relationship with Sakura) She’s just a cute girl with some occult-ish quirks and I don’t see why that has to be such a bad thing. The other, more prevalent, argument is that since she’s at the center of the infamous love triangle, she must be the root of all its problems. It’s really frustrating when people blame her for Kazuichi’s faults. I’ll talk more about Kazuichi later, but his terrible qualities are a result of his own actions, and Sonia shouldn’t be blamed for being the object of his affections. It’s honestly blaming the victim and I’m sick of it. Obviously, she hasn’t treated him perfectly and I understand why people are frustrated with it. The only example of this, though, is in chapter four when she goes back-and-forth between treating him coldly and praising him when she should’ve just rejected him a long time ago. However, I think I can understand where she’s coming from in this chapter. I think it was kind of a Shuichi/Kaede situation. She had already figured out that Gundham was the killer, but didn’t want to admit it to herself, and definitely didn’t want to tell everyone else even though he was more than ready to admit it. Therefore, she treated Kazuichi coldly whenever he was getting close to the truth (or treating her poorly) and praised him whenever he was leading the group in the wrong direction. I don’t have any evidence that these were the times she treated him this way, but that’s how I remember it. Anyway, Kazuichi should stop being a creep, and apologists should stop rationalizing it. Her one slip-up in this case when she was panicked and worried for her closest friend does not make up for all of the other times Kazuichi treated her terribly.
You’re the best
Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu- Boss baby boss baby boss baby. Also, he’s a fantastically fleshed out character and his relationship with Peko makes me cry literally every time :)  I just wish his character development had been a bit more stretched out, instead of on-the-spot like it was. I also kinda wish his sudden development had been a result of the despair disease, but you can’t have everything.
Nagito Komaeda- Recently, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about how SimpleFlips calls softlocking in SM64 “gay baby jail” and Komaeda makes me think of that.
Chiaki Nanami- I’m not quite as attached to her as everyone else seems to be, but I totally see the appeal. Cute girl, cute backpack, and plot-relevant??? Incredible.
Ibuki Mioda- She’s just so fun. I don’t typically like characters who are loud for the sake of being loud, but I can’t help but love her. This was the first game I fully voice-acted for fun (the girls, at least) and Ibuki was definitely one of my favorites. It just feels good to yell sometimes, you know?
Hey, I think you’re pretty cool, I like you a lot
Peko Pekoyama- I’m a simple woman. I think of chapter two, I cry. At least, the epilogue of that case. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Twilight Syndrome Murder Case and I definitely didn’t like the, albeit fake, serial killer twist. It didn’t feel natural and just felt bad. Loved hearing Sonia say “Sparkling Justice!”, though.
Hiyoko Saionji- I totally understand why people hate her. I get it, I do. But I just can’t bring myself to hate her. She’s obviously not a good person, but I have shit taste. Byakuya and Kokichi aren’t good people, but everyone loves them anyway. I just think she’s so funny and terrible, I can’t help but get attached. I’m not usually the type to like little sister characters, or even bullies, but she’s just such a perfect combination of the two that I can’t help but love her. I also obviously am not the biggest fan of Mikan (I’ll explain, I swear) so the bullying didn’t really affect me too much.
Hajime Hinata- He’s the protagonist. I don’t really know what to tell you. I used to believe in Hajime supremacy, but I’m starting to understand the Shuichi supremacy now, so idk, Hajime might end up lower after I finish V3.
Byakuya Togami/Ultimate Imposter- He’s just such a good guy. I know that the real Byakuya is an ass, but the imposter is so nice and supportive. I can’t even take him seriously as Byakuya anymore because of how supportive he is. The real Byakuya could never. I just finished his last free-time event and he really feels like his own person now, which I can imagine is all he’s ever wanted. He isn’t Byakuya to me anymore, he’s himself. I just don’t have a unique name to call him by.
I remember you
Mahiru Koizumi- Her photography thing was cute, I liked it a lot. I don’t know the basic stance people take on her crush on Hajime, but I thought it was really cute and believable. I don’t know if I ship it, but I can see it in canon. It makes sense and works well.
Akane Owari- She’s a jock. I feel pretty neutral about jocks unless they have another prevalent thing that fits my interests.
Nekomaru Nidai- Again, a jock. I’m just not the biggest fan. I know that his backstory makes up for a lot of his inherent jock boringness, but I just can’t get into him as much as some other people can. I definitely see the appeal, though.
Usami/Monomi- She’s a mascot. Cool. Honestly preferred Monophanie.
You are literally the worst. Actual scum. Leave this planet and never return
Mikan Tsumiki- I told you I’d explain. First, I need to explain some personal reasons I didn’t like her, rather than objective characteristics. Like I mentioned with Ibuki, I voice-acted the whole game with each of the girls. Never before has a voice physically affected me as much as Mikan’s. In order to make her voice so high and quiet, I have to close my throat and tighten my jaw. It makes my throat, jaw, and head hurt all at the same time and it feels awful. The only time this wasn’t the case was during her breakdown and that’s because I couldn’t make her say those things with that voice, it didn’t make sense. Which brings me to my next point: her breakdown. I didn’t like it. At all. It wasn’t interesting and it didn’t make sense. I know that everyone else was sad because she was bullied a bunch and began to romanticize it, and yeah, I feel bad, but it wasn’t enough to make me like her. Her breakdown made a little more sense after watching the anime, believe it or not, but it was still not great. She could’ve been easily redeemed for me if she had a different motive for killing Hiyoko. I don’t really have an opinion on whether or not Ibuki should’ve lived longer, or even survived, but I definitely agree with Hiyoko dying during the third case, I just wish the motive had been different. It would’ve been so powerful if Mikan’s despair disease had made her remember her past with the bullying, and then she realized how much she hated it. She started to notice how Hiyoko was treating her and finally snaps. She kills Hiyoko in cold blood on purpose, instead of on accident, and covers it up in a more reasonable way instead the literal impossibility that we actually got. Then, in her breakdown, instead of pleading for forgiveness, she tries to rationalize her actions and convince everyone else that she was in the right by killing her. It would’ve been much more interesting and would’ve made much more sense. I also wish she had made use of Ibuki’s despair disease (which made her gullible) and commanded her to hang herself instead of staging the other thing, because it was a lot of extra work that was really unnecessary and it would’ve made more use of the despair disease other than a plot contrivance for Junko’s entrance. This kind of turned into my review for the third chapter, but still. Killers are always more fleshed out in their respective chapters, so their existence is often pretty much tied to the events of that chapter, since everything typically revolves around them. I might as well add here that her execution was really basic and underwhelming, but as far as I’ve seen, I’m not alone in that opinion.
Monokuma- It’s kind of an ironic hate with Monokuma. Sure, he makes me laugh, but he’s also fuel for the killing game, so... I don’t know. He pisses me off sometimes, but he’s also pretty funny at other times.
Kazuichi Souda- This is basically a continuation of the Sonia rant, so here we go. I would like to preface this by saying that in the context of Kazuichi’s free-time events, he’s one of my favorite characters. However, in the main story, I placed him here. I would normally average out my opinions of his different forms, but his optional events don’t make up for his actions that are required to be experienced. While some of his quips toward Sonia made me laugh, they still made me uncomfortable to some extent. It’s honestly frustrating to see him try so hard when she obviously isn’t interested in him. Some people choose to see this as an underdog story, but I think it’s just annoying and low-key creepy. He’s constantly fetishizing Sonia and keeps making moves on her even after she treats him coldly. He isn’t brave or cool for doing this, like the media would like you to believe, he’s creepy and persistent, and not in a good way. While I do agree that Sonia should’ve just turned him down from the very beginning, I still don’t put all of that blame on her. I’m sure she’s had her fair share of creepy guys making advances on her and she’s just had to take it, since she’s a princess and it would hurt her noble reputation. Kazuichi should also be able to think for himself and see that she’s not interested. It shouldn’t be completely up to her to get him to stop. He should be able to take a hint and back off, whether she tells him directly or otherwise. She definitely hints to him that she’s not interested in some of the later chapters, but he completely ignores it and keeps trying anyway. I wouldn’t have such a problem with him if he didn’t represent a very real issue that we are facing in the world today. Nice guys will, unfortunately, always be plaguing our society and it doesn’t look like they’re getting any better. It doesn’t help that the media continually raises them up and convinces them that they are in the right, even though they definitely aren’t. No man is entitled to any woman and people need to stop sympathizing with men who are rejected and keep pushing. In almost every post I’ve seen from Kazuichi apologists, they explain that Sonia should’ve given him a chance. Really? She did give him a chance. She gave him several chances, in fact, more than she was entitled to. The first time she acted coldly towards him was at the end of chapter 4. That’s four entire chapters, plus a prologue, of chances that she gave him. She was always polite and talked to him when he approached her. Maybe she saw this as her noble duty, but either way, she didn’t reject him outright the first time she saw him. She tried to be friends, he was creepy, and then she started to hint that she wasn’t interested. This is a natural progression for her character and is in no way wrong of her. He is not entitled to her attention and should learn to back off when he’s not wanted. The other big reason I see that people don’t like Sonia is because she basically ruined any chance of Kazuichi and Gundham having any sort of relationship other than rivals. Again, it’s not Sonia’s fault that they both liked her. It’s also not her fault for choosing Gundham over Kazuichi, since he treated her respectfully and they also shared interests. She also didn’t need a specific reason to choose Gundham over Kazuichi, because she is free to make her own choices based on anything she wants, including nothing. Even though I said all of this, I do actually wish that Gundham and Kazuichi could’ve had some kind of relationship. I think it could’ve been very interesting, but it didn’t need to be devoid of Sonia. I think it would’ve been just as interesting for Gundham and Kazuichi to talk with Sonia as it would’ve been for her to introduce them to each other more formally and get them to become friends. I think it could’ve been fun for Kazuichi to have a little playful resentment towards Gundham for getting the girl, but instead, he went completely off the deep end. If he had just backed off like I suggested earlier, maybe they could’ve had that relationship that everyone longed for. I am also obligated to say here that I think all of his free-time events were absolutely adorable and the fact that he gets motion sickness is the single best piece of comedy every written.
Teruteru Hanamura- I’ve been doing a lot of rants and I’m kind of tired of it. You know why I don’t like him, I don’t need to explain it. He’s shitty, blah blah blah. His tiny bit of plot with his mother didn’t really do anything to redeem him for me and I just plain don’t like him. Sorry, not sorry.
Wow, this took way too long. I forgot I had so many opinions on these characters. I would’ve said a lot more about Gundham, but it’s kind of my thing here to say more about my second favorite characters and characters that I don’t like than my favorite characters, and I knew there were going to be several rants, so I decided to keep his very short. My definitive favorites list is Gundham and then Sonia, with a pending Fuyuhiko in third. The four dark devas are the best characters and I’m so upset they weren’t on here. I would apologize for my Kazuichi rant, since it had two parts, both of which were very long, but it all needed to be said because I’m sick and tired of Kazuichi apologists. They keep coming across my dash and I would like to be rid of them. If you like Kazuichi, that’s fine, I actually quite like him, too, you just need to acknowledge his faults instead of just rationalizing them in a bad way. If someone wants to send me reasons why Sonia is terrible, I’ll listen, because I’m sure I’m probably being a bit of a Sonia apologist, although I feel like her actions were a lot less impactful. Sondam supremacy, thank you, goodnight.
