felt nostalgic for emo music i used to listen to in high school so i was looking for my old playlists and suddenly got hit with a memory of my very straight-boy very well meaning but phenomenally incompatible boyfriend at the time looking at my music and saw "I Hate Everything About You" by three days grace and just said in the most confused sad voice "I hate everything about you? :( "

headcannons that just make sense
Michael
⇝ Michael loves children. He wouldn't want any himself but he enjoys watching them since Michael loves their natural lively imagination.
⇝ He loves candy, especially gummies and candy corn.
⇝ Michael enjoys reading. He is a quiet person and very intelligent. Reading is one of his favorite hobbies to gain knowledge.
⇝ Michael definitely broke through the floor in the old Myer's house before.
⇝ Michael likes cats, surprisingly. He doesn't understand the idea of pets but cats are so independent and quiet. He tries to copy their moves a lot.
⇝ This man literally doesn't have an ounce of social intelligence. Small talk with him would be so uncomfortable and awkward. He doesn't know how it works.
Vincent
⇝ Vincent is stronger than Bo.
⇝ He secretly despises the mask. His mom technically made it for him to make Vincent understand that he looks like a freak. He wishes he'd be more confident and could live without it.
⇝ Vincent loves Bo with all his heart even if he's a narcissistic asshole.
⇝ Vincent is scared for Lester a lot. Since he's younger Vincent wants to protect him.
⇝ Vincent wants to learn an instrument. Piano would be his favorite but violins are a close second place.
⇝ Vincent secretly adores being with both of his brothers, even if one bullies him and the other one reeks.
⇝ Vincent doesn't like his father. They never had a close relationship.
⇝ The things Vincent has done for the aesthetic of them... God..
Bo
⇝ Bo would actually sacrifice himself for both of his brothers.
⇝ He feels bad about treating Vincent like he does but his pride is too big for him to apologize.
⇝ Bo doesn't actually know how to repair cars but he's learning.
⇝ Bo wishes he could draw like Vincent.
⇝ He is very lonely sometimes, alcohol is his best friend in these times. He's high-key alcoholic.
⇝ Bo was the child in elementary school that brought a knife to class.
⇝ He had a teacher that realized his abuse and subsequent aggression. She protected him and he saw her like a mother.
⇝ Bo sometimes wants to leave Ambrose and just discover what lays beyond his beloved America.
Lester
⇝ Lester loves Halloween, he makes the twins go trick or treating with him. Since nobody opens the door (what a surprise), he buys candy himself and places filled bowls all over town.
⇝ Lester has a very close relationship with Vincent. He stands up for him when Bo gets too harsh.
⇝ As a child he used to sleep in Vincent's bed when he had a nightmare.
⇝ Lester believes in true love which is absolutely adorable.
⇝ Lester has had emotional deep talks with his dog, Jonesy.
⇝ Lester was the child that actually loved his parents, he misses them a lot.
⇝ He used to run to the forest and looked for fairies and goblins as a child.
⇝ Lester likes to watch Vincent draw, it calms him when he's stressed.
Otis
⇝ Otis would never tell them but he loves his adoptive family, the Firefly family, so much.
⇝ He's sure that if they hadn't found him he'd be dead by now. Either because of drugs or suicide.
⇝ Otis secretly wants a dog.
⇝ He is very intelligent and if he tries he can actually be impressive when it comes to stating his opinions and beliefs.
⇝ Otis daydreams daily how his life would've worked out if he was "normal".
⇝ He overthinks his actions a lot. He doesn't feel bad about them but he analyzes the mistakes so they won't happen again.
Baby
⇝ Baby has had days where she just laid in bed and cried. She isn't always as happy as everyone believes.
⇝ Baby was very insecure about her body as a teenager. The other girls bullied her which led to quickly decreasing confidence.
⇝ Baby is very glad to have Otis as a brother, he's her ultimate idol.
⇝ Baby is scared by horror movies. She's not squeamish but she gets scared easily, especially when the subject's demons or supernatural horror.
⇝ Baby fell in love with a girl in her school once. Unfortunately it was a bully of hers.
⇝ Baby forced Otis multiple times to go and buy pads for her.
Billy
⇝ Billy is a little geek and we all know it.
⇝ Definitely a gamer though back in his time, video games just started developing.
⇝ Billy has comfort characters without knowing what that means.
⇝ He has thought about making out with Stu before.
⇝ Billy is a very emotional person even if he doesn't show it in public. The only one who has seen the emotional side is Stu.
⇝ Billy wants to dress more alternative but that'd ruin his "perfect disguise". He'd love some leather boots and dark eyeliner.
Stu
⇝ Stu is sure that he's bisexual though he hasn't outed himself yet. His closet is made out of glass let's not lie here.
⇝ Stu is actually a very empathetic character which is why Billy loves him so much.
⇝ Stu loves everything that involves rollercoasters, he's an adrenaline junkie.
⇝ He either has ADHD or ADD.
⇝ He is actually pretty tolerant with a lot of stuff. He'd definitely wear nail paint and a skirt, sure. He's all against toxic masculinity.
⇝ His room is so fucking messy.
Brahms
⇝ Brahms has porn magazines hidden in the walls.
⇝ Brahms really likes gardening. He's a huge fan of planting his own stuff.
⇝ He is terrified of wild animals. This man is literally scared of wolves even though that's the last thing that'd attack him.
⇝ Brahms doesn't like fire all that much. He usually sits far away from it.
⇝ If he had a camera he'd totally take creepy stalker pictures through the walls.
⇝ He knows how to cook, surprisingly. Though he himself lives off of toast and tea.
⇝ He isn't stupid but his intelligence mainly bases on literature. He couldn't solve a simple equation yet he knows "Romeo and Juliet" like he wrote it.
⇝ Brahms hates sports. Especially running. He will throw himself on the ground after two minutes and whine.
Josef
⇝ Josef either lives vegan or vegetarian.
⇝ He wishes he had a pet. He'd love a cat or a dog.
⇝ Josef actually loved his parents even if they didn't have a close relationship. They passed away which is why he has so much money.
⇝ Bisexual king. I mean come on, he wanted to seduce Aaron as well as Sara.
⇝ He knows a lot about healthy eating. Fresh vegetables as well as fruit are a must in his house.
⇝ He doesn't actually have a house, he rents apartments or tiny houses for a few months and then leaves again.
⇝ He wanted to study medicine when he was a teenager. His grades were good enough as well.
Thomas
⇝ Thomas loves animals a lot. He wishes he wouldn't have to slaughter them sometimes but at the time he didn't have a choice.
⇝ While he despises school he loves gaining knowledge. If it wasn't for the bullies he'd gone back to school.
⇝ He hums lullabies to himself while he works.
⇝ He has thought about killing Hoyt yet he knows that he isn't allowed to kill family.
⇝ Tommy never had the chance to understand what's so wrong about cannibalism. He kind of gets it though.
⇝ Thomas has a huge artisanal intelligence. He can craft very well, as well as repair things.
⇝ He makes little dolls and toys when he's not busy.
⇝ He too wishes he had a pet with fur so he could pet it.
⇝ He has stamina like an ox. Thomas is probably able to run for hours.

“Sharp as knives...”
RZ!MichaelxReader

Tumblr media
Summary:
Y/n just seems too badass and lethal for anyone in Haddonfield, except for one man. She signs her fate unknowingly when she snaps a pervert in half at the bar. Just like that, Michael wants her. xD warnings: cussing and a wee bit of violence :) also michael being a total stalker but what were we expecting
Her eyes were piercing. Sharp and direct as knives. It was like she looked right through you. She wore eyeliner that made them darker than they already were, and her hair flowed like a waterfall as she walked the streets. When she was angry, her voice could cut metal, and she never showed her teeth unless she was snarling.
Michael was in love. He though she resembled something of a feral wolf, and yet she was such a tiny little thing. One time she went into 7/11 for cigarettes, and her tshirt was so large that the shoulder-sleeves went past her elbows, and the bottom reached her mid-thigh. Her shorts barely showed, and her hair was in a messy bun. He watched her the entire time, practically glowing with dominance over the whole vicinity even though he was nowhere to be seen. He was there for her only. He was going to be the ultimate nightmare to anyone who gave her so much as a wrong look.
One time he got close enough to see her wrists, and how easily he could snap them within his grip. Once he could see her slender neck, and imagined how perfectly it would pulse around his long, thick fingers. He wanted to feel that, and yet the thought of harming her brought him anguish.
Today was hotter than normal, and Michael sought shade in the pine trees as usual. It was quiet in there and no person thought to go wandering, so that was his home for now.
There she was again. Her languid steps and flowing hair, bounced as she walked with purpose to the new bar that had opened up a few months ago. Michael watched, eyes cracked and predatory, his gaze on her pretty little form.
She was getting closer. Her form growing, although not so much due to the height of this pretty girl.
Michael wanted to sneer at how tiny she looked up close, and was too caught up in his fantasies to notice that she caught sight of his face in the bushes, and was making her way to him.
Her eyes were piercing, sharp, direct. They cut through Michael and he loved it. He never wanted to look away from the sheer power she radiated. They were e/c. Beautiful, like gems, against the glow of hell within them.
Then she was still. And they stood five feet apart.
“Have you been following me?” Her voice wasn’t sharp, it wasn’t threatening, nor did it sound frightened or shaky. It stood tall, and Michael couldn’t read her expression. It was a blank page.
Michael nodded slowly, not emitting any sound whatsoever. It was deathly quiet.
“Why?”
She wanted to know if he wanted to hurt her. Maybe he wanted to take her forcefully against a tree or on the asphalt against the dark sky.
Michael didn’t reply. He only stared. It was something intense, brooding, large. The gaze, Michael’s usually and most casual look, emitted danger, darkness, and sadism. It was something that you didn’t want to come near, let alone be in the view of. And yet she didn’t even flinch. She didn’t even blink. They’re gazes we’re locked, like two lions trying to intimidate each other.
Then, Michael wanted to see something. He wanted to see her reaction. He reached out, and grabbed her wrist, his rough hands scratching against her soft skin. He pulled her towards her, to which she obliged with a blank face, and he could finally smell her scent.
She smelled like an oak forest, peppermint, and jasmine. He could smell her perfume and her shampoo.
Y/n caught his scent too. He smelled like every dark thought she had ever had, every sinful desire, every morbid feeling— and yet so sweet.
He dug his fingers into her hair, something that seemed rough to Y/n, but bliss to Michael.
“I have to go.” She said, an edge to her voice that Michael couldn’t name, and his grip tightened. He seemed to growl. The sound echoed, and it swallowed her.
Michael then let go, and the girl stumbled backwards. Then it showed on her face, giving Michael a sense of satisfaction. She wasn’t scared, but she looked up at his in awe. How morbid, how dark, how beautiful it is to experience a scratch of his impulses and want more.
Michael stepped back, disappearing into the pines like a ghost.
The guitar was loud, blaring in the dark lit room, the bass shook the floor, and Y/n was having the time of her life. A man from the bar licked his lips with predatory eyes and Michael was already aware. He was internally shaking at the thought of competition. Then again, when does he ever lose?
The man with messy hair contained within a dirty baseball cap rose from his chair, and stalked drunkenly over to her. Michael seethed, as he watched through the small window of the staff-only room of the bar with the manager strangled dead on the floor behind him. He growled a guttural and animalistic growl, and watched with eyes aflame and murderous.
She strummed, making her guitar wail in a fit of rhyme and rythme, and she never wanted to stop. She didn’t even notice the poor man until he felt her up from behind her. She initially pushed him away slightly and absentmindedly, too caught up in her trance of music and being drunk on rhythm.
Her attention was snagged like a skirt on a thorn bush when the man grabbed onto her and her guitar, making the music stutter to a stop with unwelcome hands on her body.
Rage in her body bubbled up and exploded like an active volcano. She was in such a shaking, violent, overwhelming rage that she wasn’t just seeing red, she was seeing black spots in her vision.
“Are you fucking kidding me?”
Michael watched in awe as her fist flew to his nose, and the man fell back with a spray of blood from his nose. He clutched it in a pitiful yelp, followed by another pained yell as she, this tiny, petite girl roundhouse kicks him in the ball-sack and he fell to the floor.
“Fucking prick!” She spat, and she whipped her head away from the pitiful excuse for a man keening on the ground, practically immobile. She wiped her nose and fixed her clothing, then sighed, trying to keep her heart rate under control.
Michael was amazed. He was smitten. Yes— The Shape, Michael Myers, was smitten, taken aback, and extremely turned on. He didn’t understand why he felt this way over someone so insignificant, and yet he couldn’t turn himself away. The way she didn’t hesitate to temporarily maim him sent a delicious feeling throughout Michael’s body because it was like she was begging to be tamed. This lone wolf, feral and unpredictable, was undeserved to almost every man alive. Every man alive didn’t have the hands strong enough to carry her crown, but Michael does. And he will.
Her eyes were closed, trying to compose herself when an alarm was pulled, and it was blaring in the ears of everyone.
Police had showed up because one of the employees discovered the body of the manager in the back, and Y/n had her suspicions, and she was smart enough to know soon who the man in the pines was— and she knew.
She knew what would become of her and him, all that was due now was time.
i hope u liked ittt 💕💕

Protect You
I promise as we move along more things will happen in each chapter and I’m not really sure what exactly this is but we’re moving forward so yay
Chapter II: My Sister’s Getting Married and I Get Drunk. It’s a good system
Every time I looked at Taryn all I could think about was the betrayal that came with discovering your twin was in a relationship with your boyfriend, and she had been for a while. I know that Vivi didn’t expect me to just ‘get over it’ but I could tell she wanted me to. She pushed me and Taryn as close together as she dared without risking my wrath as she called it. That gleam in her eyes when I would actually look Taryn in the eyes with something other than hate. She wanted her sisters back, I could understand that, but I doubted we could ever get back to where we were, once.
“Jude,” Taryn’s sing-song voice invaded my mind, curling around my brain and ruthlessly squeezing the sleep out of it.
Light flooded my eyes as she shoved my curtains open. “I noticed you didn’t wake up early like you always did.” Her mouth formed a delicate frown. I wanted to punch it.
“No,” I said, sitting up. “I didn’t have to go in today and recently I’ve been so exhausted I decided to sleep in,” I narrowed my eyes, “Until somebody ruined it.”
Taryn crossed her arms over her chest. “It’s my last day visiting, Jude. I thought you might want to spend it together.”
I just stared blankly at her.
Disappointment flashed across her face, “Fine. But hurry and get ready. I have news I’ve been scared to tell you, but Vivi convinced me I should.”
Now that caught my attention but I quickly schooled my face back to unconcerned.
Her mouth lifted slightly like she knew I wasn’t completely unaffected.
Without another word, she strode out of my room. I scowled at her back and stuck up my finger once she’d turned the corner.
I threw off the covers and reached for my phone.
I’d gotten a text from The Bomb.
Bomb: It’s been about a week since you started guarding Dain with us, we want to get closer. Come for drinks tonight.
Jude: I have a sister thing tonight, I can’t.
My finger hovered over the send button before I pressed it. I don’t know why I didn’t accept. Going for drinks with them sounded like it would be much more fun than what was awaiting me at this very moment.
I groaned and tossed my phone on my bed, moving for my closet.
I walked towards the living room and was immediately assaulted. My little brother, Oak threw himself at me, wrapping his tiny arms around my hips.
“Hi, buddy,” I murmured.
“I’ve missed you, Jude!” I leaned down and picked him up, swinging him around my body, relishing in his giggles.
“Jude,” I set him down at the sound of Oriana’s voice. She stood in the doorway, eyes flitting in every direction like she was looking for the nearest exit. I knew the feeling. She pursed her lips. “The family is waiting.” Not our. Never our. She still didn’t like me. Hadn’t ever. She’d slowly warmed up to Taryn and even Vivi over the years but every time she was in a room alone with me she looked like she would rather claw her own eyes out.
I nodded, peering around her to see Vivi, Taryn, and Madoc in the living room. I wouldn’t ask why they were here. I wouldn’t give Oriana the satisfaction.
I sat next to Vivi, pulling Oak into my lap. I didn’t miss the quick look Oriana shot me as she settled down, angled towards me as if to pull him away. I held him tighter.
“Jude. I have something very big to tell you.” Taryn’s voice held a forced lightness.
She shifted uncomfortably, twisting her hands in her lap, drawing my attention to them. Or more specifically, what was on them. A single finger, specifically.
Something in me twisted. “You’re marrying him.” It wasn’t a question.
She nodded and I squeezed Oak. “Good for you.” I transported Oak onto Vivi’s lap, he went willingly, wrapping his arms around her neck as she tickled his sides.
Even the sounds of his laughter and the humming of the furnace and every other appliance in our house could not help what felt like a deafening silence blanketing the room.
I nodded to myself, making to stand. “Good for you,” I repeated.
“The engagement party is in two weeks. I’d like for you to be there.” Her eyes shone as she looked up at me and that something twisted again.
“Sure.” I found myself saying. “I’ll be there.”
Everyone was still staring at me so I announced, “I’m going to get breakfast from that cafe down the street.”
“Bring me some scones!” Vivi called after me as I shoved my phone in my back pocket, threw my coat on, and walked out the door.
“Sure!” I called back as I slammed the door closed behind me.
~~~~~~~
I sat in the cafe, at a table against the wall occasionally sipping my coffee and picking at my muffin.
I didn’t love him. I’d figured that out pretty easily after the initial ordeal all went down. I was definitely more hurt by her betrayal than his. Actually, I was never that hung up over him. So why did I hate the idea of her marrying him so badly? Well, it wouldn’t. I took a deep breath forcing myself to do one of my best talents. I took my feelings and wrapped a thick wool blanket over them, rolled them over an invisible hill, and pushed them off the edge.
I stabbed my muffin with a plastic fork and slumped in my seat, closed my eyes, and tried to let the classical music drown out the world.
“My sweet nemesis,” A voice purred. “How lovely to see you here.”
My eyes flew open, Cardan was standing above me.
He grinned as my surprise morphed into a glare.
He peered around the cafe carefully before shrugging off his coat, probably something Italian and worth more than my life, and sat down in the seat across from mine.
My eyes lifted instinctively and I saw someone slide into a seat nearby. His security guard, probably. He followed my eyes and let out a long-suffering sigh. “I couldn’t get rid of them all.”
I rolled my eyes, “They’re here to protect you, you know.”
“But you’re here,” He smirked. “You’re all the protection I need.”
Something in my brain woke up. “I’m what you need protection from,” I snarled.
“There she is.”
“What do you want, Cardan?”
He lifted a hand to his heart and pouted. “Come on, dear. You can’t expect me to only be here because of you.”
I raised my eyebrows and looked around the cafe, neutral tones, plants, a generally calm environment. I looked back at Cardan, glitter smeared across his eyelids, winged eyeliner painstakingly applied to perfection, midnight-black curls in disarray. Breath smelling of wine and something else I wasn’t sure I wanted to identify.
I scoffed. “Right. This is definitely your scene.”
He grinned again, “Not really yours either, Jude.”
I shrugged, “I needed to escape.” I was shocked at the honesty and for a second it appeared he was too.
“From what?” He asked.
I rolled my eyes and stabbed my muffin again. He watched with a small smile. “Like you care.”
“I do, actually.” He leaned forward, resting on his forearms and I found myself leaning slightly forward too. “Tell me your troubles.” He was close enough I could see his clear eyes. He was looking at me like he really did want to know, so I told him.
“Taryn is marrying Locke.”
“Yes.” He said. “This is news?”
I furrowed my brows. “This isn’t?”
“He told me he was going to do it quite a bit ago, but that doesn’t matter. Why does this trouble you?” Something I couldn’t decipher flashed across his face and his voice got tight. “Do you love him?”
“What? No, of course not.”
“Good, he’s not good enough for you.” The sincerity in his tone caught me off guard and I went quiet. He did too.
We sat there in silence, watching each other. “Jude.” His voice was quiet.
“Yes?”
“Be careful.”
I sat up straighter, “What do you mean?”
He glanced around, his eyes flitting from the security cameras to his own guard and back again. “With my brother.”
“I can take care of myself.”
“Maybe, but getting involved with him. With us, in the way that you are,” His voice was strained. “Just, be careful.”
“What are you talking about?” I demanded.
He sucked in a breath. “I can’t, Jude. Just,”
He stood up and shrugged his coat back on. He hadn’t met my eyes, he was still watching everything and everyone around us.
“Be careful. Or you’re going to get hurt. Badly.”
~~~~~~~
Cardan’s warning stirred something in me, something that caused me to, as soon as he was out of the cafe with his security in tow, pick up my phone and text the Bomb.
Jude: Is that offer for drinks still open?
Bomb: Definitely
Jude: Just tell me the time and place. I’ll be there.
~~~~~~~
“What made you decide to come?” Bomb - or, as I just found out, Lilliver - asked as I waved down the bartender for a refill.
I shifted in my seat.
“Nothing good, then?” Ghost - Garrett - asked.
I looked at him and he grimaced, “Your body language is screaming at me.”
I let out a noise between a laugh and a groan.
“Spill, girlie.” Roach - Van - demanded.
“I just found out my twin sister is marrying my high school boyfriend.”
Van whistled, low.
“Damn,” Lilliver said.
“Oh,” I said. “It gets worse.”
I explained to them how Locke had been with Taryn longer than he’d been with me, but the two of them were in a secret relationship. And Taryn knew about me and him the whole time.
“How’d you find out?” Van’s speech was slurred as he leaned forward. He sloshed his drink and Lilliver slid away gracefully to avoid the spill.
“Oh,” I sighed, resting my head in my hands and letting out a humorless laugh. “He told me.”
Garrett leaned forward then, eyebrows raising. “So he grew a conscience?”
I shook my head, rolling my eyes.”Of course not. He just thought he had me deep enough in his grasp that he could.” I brought my hand to my chest as if to contain the hiccup. It didn’t work. “He thought he could keep dating both of us.”
“What the fuck.” Lilliver said, Van and Garrett, echoing the sentiment.
“Wait,” Lilliver held up her hands in a pause motion. “I’m drunk so I’m kinda slow right now but, Locke.” She waved her fingers. “Isn’t that one of Cardan’s friends?”
Van looked like she’d just explained why the sky was blue. He looked at me for confirmation.
I nodded, taking a deep drink. “That’s how I met the Greenbriars. Cardan and I were in the same grade. Vivi and Rhyia are close.”
“So you were in the same circle?”
I laughed, “God no. Exact opposite ‘circles’. Cardan and I declared each other sworn enemies day one, Valerian and Nicasia despised me on sight and Locke for the most part had stayed out of it.”
“Until he decided to date you both just to see if he could.”
“Yeah,” I sighed.
“Did Cardan and the others know?”
“Kind of?” I shrugged. “I’ve never been clear on how much Valerian knew. But, Nicasia found out he was dating one of us and told Cardan.” My voice dropped to a conspiratorial whisper, “Neither of them liked it very much.” Van snorted. “Locke decided to out me and him to the school,” I waved my drink through the air. “We dated publicly for a little while and then at senior prom I found out what was going on with him and my sister. The rest is history.”
Lilliver winced, “Prom?”
“Oh yeah,” I said and grinned. “Great memories.”
Garrett looked at me sympathetically, “I’m sure.”
“Oh!” I declared, accidentally slapping Van in the arm, “I got into a physical fight with Taryn after, too.”
“Did you win?” Lilliver asked and at my grin and smug nod she cackled. “Atta girl.”
I hiccuped and set my drink down. “I’m going to dance,” I announced and wormed out onto the dance floor.
I danced for what felt like hours, the music had burrowed into my blood, my bones. I couldn’t stop. People were passing me drinks and more that I can’t even remember. The world was a blur. Somewhere, I recognized familiar voices but I drowned everything out aside from the pumping in my ears.
I know I threw up on some girl at some point because a high-pitched voice was yelling at me, I couldn’t make out a single word she said but almost immediately after a hand wrapped around my upper arm. “Come on, Jude. You have to go home.”
I resisted but clearly, I wasn’t coordinated enough to fight back because their grip only tightened. “Stop fighting,” The voice hissed, pulling me through the groups of people, I opened my mouth to call out for someone, anyone but my voice was caught in my throat. “It’s just me.”
“Cardan?” My voice came out in a whisper and the world sharpened.
It was Cardan, he was holding me tight against him as we exited the club. He looked down at me with an indecipherable look in his eyes. “Some guys were watching you, and you'd already had enough to drink. I’m taking you home.” His voice was harsh.
“I can take care of myself.” I spat, finding the strength to pull away from him, but he kept his hand on my arm.
“I know you can, Jude.”
"Dain's going to kill me for getting this drunk when I'm supposed to be on call isn't he?"
Cardan's silence was answer enough.
"Are you sure you don't love him?" Cardan asked suddenly.
"Who?" I furrowed my brows. "Dain?"
"Well, I certainly I hope you don't love Dain. But I'm talking about Locke."
I tried to look at him but he wouldn't meet my eyes. "I'm sure. Why?"
His grip tightened. "Getting basically blackout drunk the night you're told he's marrying your sister is on the more on the extreme side of the scale."
I laughed despite myself. "I don't love Locke. But even if I did, why do you care?"
"I don't," He snarled.
I hummed, "You can let go of me now, I can walk."
He snorted, "Sure you can." Suddenly he released my arm and I stumbled, throwing my arms out for balance.
Cardan crossed his arms, watching me, amused while I stumbled on the sidewalk like an infant.
I flipped him off but it was the wrong move. It took my concentration from keeping upright and I stumbled sideways just enough to slam into a streetlight.
I winced and my hand flew to my head. Cardan stepped forward slowly but lunged when my knees buckled and I collapsed.
"That's going to be a wicked bruise," He grinned down at me.
My eyes were heavy as he swept me into his arms, “I’ll kill you. You and I both know I can.”
I felt myself being lowered into his car but he didn’t let go. Settling us both into the backseat, I felt his laugh more than I heard it. “I know, Jude.”
The last thing I heard before I passed out was him giving his personal driver my address.
“It’s cold as hell.” Eunjae’s mumbled complaint passed through the black face mask pulled over her mouth and dissipated into the winter air.
With teeth chattering, she quickened her pace to keep up with the older woman next to her. Eunjae’s over the knee black boots clicked against the sidewalk and she took a moment to be grateful that they were only three inch stiletto heels. Even with the sleeves of the thick, red Supreme hoodie that she’d borrowed from Hoseok’s closet that morning covering her hands, she was still freezing.
There wasn’t much that she could have used from his wardrobe without looking like she was playing dress-up, so Eunjae did what she could. A small, cute black belted fanny purse that she’d designed months ago was hooked around her slim waist. With her silver hair loose down her back and tiny rings through her cartilage piercings, Eunjae was pulling off a very Ariana Grande-esque look.
She’d been lucky that while her clothes were nowhere to be seen, most of her shoes and accessories had been shipped out to Seoul early. So after digging through two boxes worth of various shoes, she’d found her favorite pair of boots. Even though Eunjae wasn’t necessarily self conscious of her short height, her footwear collection might say otherwise. Almost every pair she owned were either platformed or heeled. Though she did own the occasional regular pair of running shoes.
“Let’s go in here.” Eunjae barely got a warning from the woman walking beside her before she cut to the right and almost left Eunjae in the dust.
At eleven am on the dot that morning, the doorbell to Eunjae’s apartment rang, effectively scaring the hell out of her. She’d been in the bathroom inspecting herself in the foggy mirror, the steamy air from her recent shower billowing out into the hallway.
The sound had startled her so much that Eunjae’s hand jolted from where she’d been drawing on winged eyeliner. The brush jerked, leaving a huge black streak down her cheek, which she scrubbed at viciously as she stumbled to the door. Luckily, the bruises had faded completely from her skin due to the impromptu cuddling session in the car with Hoseok on the way back from the airport.
Unlike earlier that morning, there was only one ring of the doorbell as the person on the other side waited patiently. With sudden nerves invading her senses, Eunjae hastily ran a hand down the hoodie she converted into a dress. The hem fell a little lower than mid-thigh and she was grateful that her boots were tall enough to help prevent her from accidentally flashing someone.
Eunjae took a moment to take a deep breath before pulling open the front door. She wasn’t normally so nervous about meeting new people. In fact, she was actually pretty outgoing. But something about the whole situation just made her a bundle of nerves that she tried to hide behind the bright smile she pasted onto her face.
Standing on the other side of the door was a woman who looked to be in her mid-thirties. Though it was hard to tell for sure. The woman’s wavy black hair was cut into a fashionable bob that did well to accentuate her elf-like face. She was dressed business casual, with a white blouse underneath a black blazer, french tucked into a pair of jeans. The woman had on a pair of short white heels with a cross body purse hanging from her shoulders.
She gave Eunjae a polite bow of the head and extended her hand with a smile on her red painted lips. “Hello, Morales Eunjae-ssi. My name is Park Soyeon and I’m here to show you around Seoul.”
Soyeon’s soft, accented voice soothed Eunjae’s nerves and she reached out to take her offered hand. “Nice to meet you.”
“You as well.” Soyeon brushed her hand through her short hair, the gold watch on her wrist glinting under the lights. “I work as an English interpreter for the company, so I’ve also been appointed to tutor you in Korean, if that is something that you’re interested in.”
With a hand still swiping the excess eyeliner gel from her face, Eunjae stepped to the side and waved the woman in politely. “Absolutely. Yes. Come in and please ignore the mess that is my face.”
Now, almost two hours later and a healthy amount of shopping to break the ice, Soyeon’s personality was beginning to emerge. The woman was professional, that was a given, but the more time the pair spent together, the more Eunjae discovered that the woman’s initial innocent appearance was far from true. Her energy was enough to rival Hoseok and despite being in her mid thirties, she gave off a very spirited vibe. And the woman loved to shop.
Eunjae found that out the hard way when she had to physically hold Soyeon back from dragging her into all the high end stores in Gangnam. While yes, Big Hit was paying to supply Eunjae with enough clothes and necessities to last until the rest of her belongings arrived in Seoul, she didn’t feel comfortable racking up a huge bill. Soyeon had pouted all the way to the less expensive, less high end designer stores. But she’d perked right back up at the cute displays in the windows. Apparently, Soyeon’s girlfriend was huge into fashion, which only served to prompt the woman into even more of a shopping fiend than normal, since their anniversary was fast approaching.
Sitting across from Soyeon at a corner table inside a cozy cafe, Eunjae sipped idly at the sweating glass of water in front of her. With one hand fingering the sleeve of her too big hoodie, the other tapped across the screen of her brand new iphone. That had been something that Eunjae decidedly couldn’t pass up on, since she needed it to communicate and all.
Soyeon had nearly run her down in the Apple store when Eunjae tried to pay for it herself. While she didn’t have a job, she still kept up a somewhat steady flow of income into her bank account. Sometimes Miles would invite her to costar in some of his YouTube videos (or she’d just invite herself over since she practically lived there anyway) and since he made so much revenue, he would split the profits with her. Despite explaining this to the interpreter who snatched her wallet, the woman refused to acquiesce. So Eunjae reluctantly let Soyeon swipe the black company credit card to purchase it.
The first app that Soyeon had insisted she download was something that everyone in South Korea had. The air in Seoul wasn’t always clean enough for the human body to inhale, so the app forecasted when and when not a face mask was needed in order to step outside. Hence the face mask currently pulled down below Eunjae’s chin.
“So I think after this, we head back to the company. Sound good?” Soyeon’s voice came out muffled as she chewed on the end of her straw. The iced latte in her plastic cup was almost completely drained with more ice than coffee left.
“Sure.” Eunjae closed out of the most recent text thread with Miles and set her phone on the table. “If you want.”
Soyeon paused in her vicious chugging to eye Eunjae over the rim of her coffee. The woman’s eyes were narrowed in thought and she pursed her lips as she stirred the remainder of her drink. “You nervous to meet the boys?”
Eunjae huffed a laugh and dropped her gaze to her cup, using the tips of her pointer fingers to push it back and forth across the table. “I’m just surprised you’re done shopping is all. You were like a tornado of fabric and credit cards back there. I thought they’d have to call in a SWAT team to stop you.”
“Uh huh.” Soyeon leaned forward on the table and placed her chin on her fists, lipstick stained straw pressed between her lips. “You have nothing to worry about. The boys will be nothing if not respectful.”
She reached out a hand to stop Eunjae’s fidgeting ones, pausing long enough for Eunjae to look up. “Besides, you barely speak Korean and not all of them completely understand English. What could possibly go wrong?”
With a playful roll of her eyes, Eunjae snorted in amusement and fell back against her chair. “That’s like, exactly what someone says right before shit hits the fan.”
“Whelp.” Soyeon shrugged, taking one last noisy pull of her drink. “What’s that weird English phrase you showed me earlier?”
Eunjae simply raised a brow in response, lips pursed in mirth.
Soyeon giggled before standing from her chair with a wink. “‘Ain’t nothing to it, but to do it.’”
“I regret showing you that video so much right now.” Eunjae groaned but followed the older woman’s lead, standing and shoving her phone into the purse around her waist.
The ride to BigHit Entertainment was spent with Eunjae anxiously playing with the sleeves hanging over her hands. Numerous bags stuffed with more clothes than she needed spread across the backseat in a multicolor rainbow of plastic. A radio station streaming Seoul’s most current popular music blasted from the car speakers. Soyeon had turned the volume up to an obnoxious level, her fingers drumming on the steering wheel along with the beat.
Eunjae sank down further in her seat, causing the top of the hoodie to bunch up closer to her nose. The faded scent of, well, Hoseokstuck to the fabric and she had to stop herself from burrowing into it. She felt strangely comforted by the smell in a way that she didn’t understand. Maybe it was just a soulmate thing? Or perhaps it was because he was the closest person that she knew in the whole country? Who knew. Which was a little sad in and of itself since she barely even knew the guy.
The closer she got to the company, the more her nerves came out to play. Eunjae tried to push the thoughts--the reality--of the situation to the far recesses of her mind for as long as possible. But now she was less than two miles away from coming face to face with the boy group that she’d been fangirling over for a while now. Not only that, but she would have to put all of her nerves, her doubts, her starstruck anticipation aside because her soulmate was J-Fucking-Hope.
What if the members of Bangtan hated her? What if, for some reason, they couldn’t get along? Where would that leave her with Hoseok? Would he grow to dislike her too? Eunjae didn’t want to imagine being rejected by the one person in the world that the universe decided to pair her with. She didn’t know if she could handle that.
Over and over, the thoughts played in a continuous loop in her head until she’d worked herself up into an anxious mess. With her bottom lip caught between her lips, Eunjae fiddled with the golden crescent moon shaped earrings in her lobes. She clenched her eyes shut and turned her focus back outward, grasping onto the closest thing to keep her grounded.
Some song from Red Velvet was blasting from the speakers and Eunjae let the lyrics flush the dangerous thoughts from her mind. She had a habit of doing that sometimes: working herself up with situations that always turned out to be way less of a problem than she’d feared. And Eunjae didn’t want to turn into panicking mess before she even stepped foot out of the car.
Just as she got her anxiety under control, Soyeon whipped the compact SUV up to a gated parking lot. The woman barely had to slow to a stop and flash her employee badge before the security guard at the gate let her in. The car maneuvered around the various filled spaced until Soyeon finally pulled into an empty spot. As she cut the transmission, Eunjae took one last steeling breath.
“Come on, kid.” The woman patted her shoulder comfortingly before she opened her door and slipped out.
The cold air from outside shocked Eunjae back to her senses and she scrambled out to follow. The stiletto heels of her boots clacked against the concrete parking lot as she followed Soyeon inside the building. For once, Eunjae was thankful for the cold because it forced her to pick up the pace to prevent herself from freezing to death.
Instead of taking the front entrance of the building, the parking lot led to a back entrance for what appeared to be employees only. Soyeon bounced on the toes of her shoes as she quickly slid her laminated employee card through the scanner at the side of the door. With a beep, it flashed green and the woman rushed to pull the door open. She barely gave Eunjae two seconds to scramble in after her to avoid being locked out.
White marble floors and beige painted walls greeted the pair as they slipped inside. Eunjae had been expecting some kind of grand, showy interior. There were absolutely zero pictures of the inside of the BigHit Entertainment building online, which left ARMY to speculate what it was actually like inside. What she hadn’t been prepared for however, was how normal it looked.
Where they entered looked like any normal office building. They were in a wide, open hallway with a bright green exit sign glowing above the door they’d entered. To the right was another door that led to a stairway that Eunjae presumed went all the way up to the top floor. The rest of the hallway was empty of life: no doors, no employees, nothing. Just a security camera perched on the ceiling with a red light slowly blinking in and out of existence.
Soyeon turned to Eunjae with a sigh of relief, most likely from having just escaped the biting cold. The puse dangling from her shoulder swung with the moment and Eunjae had to shuffle out of the way to avoid being hit. “Well, this is where we part ways. I have a lot of work I need to catch up on.”
Eunjae blinked in both shock and confusion, stuffing her facemask into the purse around her waist. “Wait, you’re just going to leave me here?”
A short laugh left Soyeon’s red painted lips, the sound bouncing off the walls. “Not--”
Before the woman could finish her sentence, the metal door to the staircase swung wide open. It hit the wall with a thud as whoever pushed it put too much force against it. A sheepish looking Hoseok poked his head out from the doorway and he checked to make sure he didn’t put a dent in the wall.
“--exactly.” Soyeon finished her statement with a smirk of amusement. Tilting her head to the side, she raised an eyebrow at the rapper. A string of rapid Korean left her lips and if her teasing tone was anything to go by, Eunjae could take a guess at what she was saying.
Hoseok’s eyes scrunched as he let out a loud laugh; a shrug lifting his slim shoulders. “Whoops?”
The words had barely left his mouth before his attention turned to Eunjae. Quicker than she could process, he scanned her from head to toe. His expression morphed into something unreadable, eyes darkening in the fluorescent light. But before she could try to discern it, his eyes flashed back to hers with a dimpled smile, hair pushed back from his forehead like he’d ran his hand through it repetitively.
“How was shopping? Good?” The question left Hoseok’s mouth carefully, like was was trying to make sure that he was translating the correct words.
As with every other time Eunjae found herself around the man, the corners of her lips pulled up into a smile. She was the type of person where the energy of others directly affected her own. While he wasn’t as goofy and loud as he was on camera in person, the man’s friendly disposition rolled off him in waves so strong she could almost feel it on her skin.
“Yeah. Very good.” Eunjae shoved her still cold hands into the pouch of her borrowed hoodie.
“Aw, my little protégé!” Soyeon’s icy cold fingers pinched one of Eunjae’s cheeks playfully, earning an annoyed nose scrunch. “You’ll be fluent in Korean before you know it.”
Soyeon, much to Eunjae’s benefit (or horror), had been throwing random Korean words and phrases at her all day. After making her repeat them a few dozen times, the woman would give her random pop quizzes at the most inopportune times. And if that wasn’t enough, Soyeon had the habit of sometimes abandoning Eunjae at a store counter to fend for herself (“Immersion is the best learning tool, kid.”). All-in-all, the woman’s teaching methods were completely abnormal, but Eunjae couldn’t say they weren’t a little effective.
“Yah.” Eunjae waved the Soyeon’s hand off with a pout. “You’re such a bully. I didn’t sign up for this.”
“Sucks to suck, kid. Anyway,” Soyeon put a hand between Eunjae’s shoulder blades and pushed her towards an amused looking Hoseok. “Go hang out until the boss man sends someone to come get you two. Shouldn’t be too long, but also, who knows with how long business meetings usually last?”
The woman left no time for anyone to reply before she turned on her heel and strutted down the hallway. Pointing a finger at Eunjae from over her shoulder she added, “I’ll have someone drop those clothes off later today. And I’ll meet with you sometime either tomorrow or the day after. Seeya!”
All Eunjae could do was stare as Soyeon disappeared around the corner. She’d evaporated just as quickly as she’d appeared.
The sound of Hoseok clearing his throat brought her attention back to him and even with the added height of her boots, she had to tilt her head back to meet his eyes. He nodded his head back towards the door to the staircase.
“After you.”
Murmuring her thanks, Eunjae stepped past him into the stairwell. It was just as empty as the hallway and the drab colored steps seemed almost endless, twisting up and out of sight. Turning back to Hoseok as he followed behind her, Eunjae raised a brow, half curious and half anxious. “Where to?”
“Studio. Everyone..,” Hoseok flashed her a reassuring smile, hands gesturing with his words. “Excited to meet you.”
Well if that didn’t send a jolt of nervous anticipation down Eunjae’s spine, she didn’t know what would. She wasn’t sure if she should be thankful that the rest of the members were excited to meet her or if she should feel more pressured to make a good first impression. With her finger pointed to herself, she squeaked, “me?”
Hoseok’s contagious laugh forced the tight muscles in her shoulders to relax a tad. He opened his mouth to respond, but before any words could make their way out, a loud rumble sounded from his stomach. His eyes widened and he looked down at his body as if he’d been betrayed.
“Hungry?” Eunjae stifled a giggle behind a sweater paw. It reminded her, however, that she had yet to eat for the day. The dread that had been weighing down her stomach all day had effectively chased away her appetite. Now though, it mingled with a twinge of hunger.
“A little.” Hoseok smiled sheepishly with a hand resting on his stomach like that would stop the sound from escaping again.
“Have you eaten?”
His tongue darted out to wet his lips and Eunjae’s brows pinched in concern at the grimace on his face. Hoseok’s shoulders lifted a little in a shrug. “Tried.”
“But?” She urged.
“I..,” Hoseok’s nose scrunched as if the memory he was reliving was unpleasant. His head tilted to the side slightly, eyes raising like the words he was searching for were etched into the bottom of the staircase above them. “Got sick.”
Eunjae’s eyes widened at what he was saying. She quickly did the mental math in her head, counting the weeks since they’d initiated First Touch. The timeline just about matched up to the normal statistic of when food would become totally obsolete to the body. Since she hadn’t eaten anything that day she didn’t know if her body would react the same.
And she didn’t really want to test that theory.
Slipping a hand out of her hoodie pouch, Eunjae extended it out towards Hoseok. The movement pulled his gaze down to her outstretched hand and she wiggled her fingers with a small laugh at his questioning eyes. “I’d be a bad soulmate if I let you starve.”
His slender fingers intertwined with hers slowly, almost completely wrapping around her smaller hand. Any remaining tension in her body dissipated at the electric current that burst through her veins with the feeling of safety, warmth, home. With a flash of his dimples, Hoseok gave her hand a quick squeeze of thanks and turned to the stairs.
“This way.”
As they ascended the steps, Eunjae couldn’t help but silently thank the fact that the touch of a soulmate also took away the feeling of pain. While she was used to walking around in heels, the toes of her shoes were starting to pinch her feet and it would only be a matter of time before she had to change her confident strut into an awkward shuffle.
Hoseok pushed the metal door open once they reached the third floor and Eunjae followed him out into the hallway. The heels of her boots sunk into the soft carpet and she sent him a questioning look when his hand slipped from hers.
He simply nodded his head at the doors lining the length of the long hallway. Words embedded in the frosted glass doors read out the names of some of BigHit’s main producers. Hoseok threw a wink over his shoulder and held a finger to his lips. “Shhh.”
Eunjae just hummed in understanding. From what Sejin had said weeks ago at their initial meeting, the nature of her and Hoseok’s soulbond had to be kept on the downlow. She just wasn’t sure who was or was not informed. Did anyone outside of Bangtan and their management get to know? With the way Hoseok didn’t touch her as they walked down the hallway, Eunjae hazarded a guess that none of the producers knew.
The hallway was quiet except for the occasional sound of drums or piano keys drifting from the closed studio doors. Eunjae couldn’t help her inner fangirl from internally screaming. Where she was walking, Producer’s Row, was where all of Bangtan’s songs were made. Just a few feet away from her could be the key to their next big hit.
Lost in thought, Eunjae almost ran into Hoseok’s back as he stopped in front of one of the frosted glass doors. His lips quirked up in amusement and she had no warning whatsoever before he twisted down the handle. All she could catch were the letters spelling out MonStudio.
As soon as it opened, music poured from the room and spilled out into the quiet hallway. Eunjae couldn’t see anything past Hoseok’s tall frame and she took that moment to gather herself. That was it. The moment that she’d been preparing for all day. She was about to meet the members of one of the most famous boy groups in the world.
She didn’t get much time to prepare before Hoseok’s hand slid back into hers and he lead her into the room. Whether he was grabbing her hand to soothe the nerves wafting off her in waves, or to sate his hunger, Eunjae wasn’t sure. But she didn’t give it much thought because there was only so much her overwhelmed brain could process at once.
MonStudio, Kim Namjoon’s studio, wasn’t very spacious. The walls on either side of his desk were taken up by glass shelves displaying numerous amounts of bears and trinkets gifted from fans. There was a leather couch pressed up against the wall closest to the door and a small coffee table in front of it. The knee high table was littered with paper, some balled up haphazardly and others with words and sentences scratched out in black ink.
Taking up a seat on the couch hunched over a notebook furiously scribbling was one of Korea’s most famous rappers. With his blond hair pushed back by a thick headband, Min Yoongi paused in his writing to look up at the sound of their entrance. The end of the pen in his hand tapped a staccato rhythm against his pale cheek like he couldn’t contain the words it itched to spill.
The rolling chair that had been facing the desk across the room spun around as well. Eunjae was grateful for Hoseok’s hand in hers keeping her grounded against the starstruck feeling creeping up her throat. Kim Namjoon, in all his dimpled, long-legged glory greeted them with a smile.
His pressed a button on the computer keyboard behind him that caused the music spilling from the giant speakers on his desk to cut off. Namjoon’s hair glittered a dark grey underneath the lights of his studio. The baggy green sweater and beige cargo shorts he wore almost blended into the beige painted walls. It was just those two waiting in the room and Eunjae felt her fear dwindle a little at the fact that she wouldn’t meet all six members at once.
“She’s here?” Tilting his head, Namjoon tried to peer around Hoseok, who almost instantly moved out of the way.
Eunjae suddenly felt like she was on display. At the corner of her vision she could see Yoongi’s eyes flicker down to where Hoseok’s hand was wrapped around hers. An uncharacteristically shy smile tilted at her lips and she wiggled the fingers of her free hand in a wave. “I’m here. Hi.”
Hoseok gently pulled her farther into the room and motioned back and forth between her and the two other men in the room. “Eunjae, Namjoon-ah. Yoongi-yah, Eunjae.”
The use of the informal nickname didn’t seem to bother Yoongi as both him and Namjoon dipped their heads in a respectful bow. Both men spoke their greetings at the same time, Yoongi’s deeper voice blending in with Namjoon’s.
“It’s nice to finally put a face to the name.” Namjoon’s English was perfect and Eunjae couldn’t help but feel a little relieved at the fact that he could translate between the four of them. Gesturing towards the couch that the eldest rapper was perched on, he smiled. “Please, have a seat. Get comfortable.”
Yoongi gathered the notebook in his hands and the stray pieces of paper scattered around him and shifted to sit on the floor at the other side of the coffee table. Eunjae’s eyes widened. “Wait! You don’t have t--”
“Too late!” Hoseok released her hand only to grab onto her shoulders and guide her to the now empty couch. She didn’t have time to argue as he dropped onto a cushion and pulled her down next to him.
Instead of taking her hand again, Hoseok simply threw an arm over her shoulders. He looked at her out of the corner of his eye and she smiled in answer to his silent question. While he acted casual about the skinship between them, Hoseok repeatedly made sure that she was comfortable with it.
“So,” the sound of Namjoon’s voice brought her attention back to the other two in the room. Thankfully, neither of them made a comment about the fact that she was pressed into their best friend’s side. “How are you settling in?”
“I don’t think it’s fully hit me yet, to be honest.” Eunjae huffed a laugh, sinking further back into the comfortable couch. It was no wonder that the rappers would sometimes sleep in their studios if all of their couches were so plush.
“That’s understandable.” Namjoon’s golden cheeks dimpled. “It’s a pretty big change.”
“That’s one way to describe it.”
Namjoon snorted in amusement and crossed one of his legs over the other, the chair beneath him rolling back a little at the movement. “Well if you ever need anything, you can come to any of us. We’ll try to help you the best we can.”
Eunjae could feel Hoseok’s warm stare burning into the side of her face as she gave her thanks to the grey haired man. Yoongi simply sat cross-legged on the floor, attention wavering between the conversation going on around him and the open notebook on the coffee table. The words begging to be etched onto the page conflicted with his desire to participate. That and the fact that the blonde wasn’t entirely comfortable speaking in English.
Hoseok spoke to Namjoon, the end up his sentence lilting like a question.
“Hobi-yah wants to know how old you are.” Namjoon translated for the rapper at her side.
Blinking at the question, Eunjae almost smacked her forehead at the realization. Korean manners were based a lot around how old somebody was, with more respect going towards those who were your senior. And she couldn’t recall ever telling Hoseok her age, so she wasn’t offended at all by the question. “I’m twenty-three.”
Hoseok made a noise in the back of his throat that sounded halfway between teasing and something else that she couldn’t decipher. He tapped a finger against his chest and hummed, “older.”
“I know.” Eunjae’s answer pulled a smile from his lips.
“Speaking of,” Namjoon rested a cheek against one of his hands, his forearms propped up on the chair’s armrest. Whatever he was about to say got cut short as the door the MonStudio echoed in a knock. All attention turned towards the figure on the other side of the frosted glass. “Come in.”
The door swung open to reveal Sejin in all his exhausted glory. The man sent an apologetic smile at the occupants in the room, finger pushing up the falling frame of his glasses. “Sorry to interrupt, but Bang PD-nim is ready to see these two.”
Whatever slight comfort that Eunjae felt within the confines of the cozy studio was wiped away almost instantly. The anxiety that had turned to a gentle simmer cranked itself all the way up, threatening to bubble over. She held it in though, pushed it down until it hid behind the small upwards tilt of her lips. Hoseok moving his arm from around her shoulders had her bracing herself for the inevitable.
She followed him as he stood from the couch, and with a few quick parting words to the other two men in the room, Eunjae trailed after Hoseok’s fleeting back.
Time to put on your big girl panties, bitch.
Wedding Bells, Part Two (Steve Rogers x Desi!Reader)
A/N: first of all, thank you for your patience. Second, no, this isn’t the finale, we still have another part to go because there’s too much bloody content. Third, as always, translations next to the sentences and some references and other stuff in the glossary. I stole the mattress line from my darling @nasarogers xoxo
"So Steve was stabbed?" "Well, he didn't have his vibranium frisbee of death to defend himself with; besides my cousin stitched him up and he healed within, like 4 hours." Natasha sighed. YN turned around from the mirror she was admiring her sangeet* outfit in, looking at her. "Nat? You okay?" "Yes. It's the jet lag, I suppose." "That and the threat of the world ending, I'm guessing?" "It does seem strange; that you have a whole family of people here who are unaware of what their daughter does or how close she came to death the day of the engagement." "Even when I was in the military; many of them didn't know too. It's been tradition with me, I guess." "So, like, how hard is it to become an agent there?" Pinky frowned at the mirror while she met YN's eyes. "Do they swear you to loyalty to the US? Do you give up all your rights? Ooh, do they burn your fingertips off?" Natasha scoffed while YN rolled her eyes. Even of the kid seemed like a zombie, what with studying continuously and also somehow dancing the whole day, she still had her sense of humor. "I got in on a recommendation and because I knew Sam thanks to a training exercise we once had. And no, we still have our fingertips attached. Don't know about the Widow though." "I can see where Pinky gets her humor from, YN."
~
The sangeet was a whole 2 weeks after the engagement. To most, it would seem like a very short one, but Rahul and his fiancee were both almost always separate, him working in Dubai while she worked in London. They wanted to get married as quick as possible, and considering how out of place she strangely felt here, YN agreed the marriage should be quick. "So what, you just...dance?" "Yep." "Is it a competition, then?" "Technically, no, but then again we love a bit of fun. Besides if we have you and Bucky we're pretty much guaranteed to win." "What's my prize then?" Bucky plopped down next to YN and Natasha who stood talking and snacking on some Ladoos* Pinky had snagged for them. Bucky snatched two, munching on one and holding the other out of Natasha's hands, who frowned at him. "Bragging rights." "Good enough." Somehow he'd adapted 10 times as fast as anyone, roaming around in a kurta* he snagged from Rahul (who immediately recognised him and nearly collapsed at the number of celebrities that were attending his wedding), lifting gas cylinders as easy as babies and generally having the time of his life. Nearly all of YN's female cousins (and a few of the male ones) were eyeing him like candy and the aunties were ready to mount him on a horse then and there*. Sunita chachi glared at YN sitting and eating when there was so much to be done and immediately beamed at Bucky getting up and nearly snatching the boxes of sweets out of her daughter's hands. "It's his first vacation in 2 years, and his first in Asia." "I think it's more of a move; yesterday he got drunk with Sukhdev chacha* who told him some kargil stories and he swore never to go back." "How many generations of your family have gone to the military?" Nat inquired. "Honestly, I've lost count." "And you're the self described "black sheep" why?" "Well I left a great job to work in another country and now even my boyfriend isn't Indian. I'm this close to being kicked out of the will." Nat smiled at how easily YN said boyfriend without stuttering or thinking. YN narrowed her eyes at her. "Are you psycho analysing me, widow?" "Nope, been there, done that." ~ YN looked up from her report to see a few kids running around. None of the aunties, thank God, otherwise there would be another lecture about 'doing work in a family function; no respect for culture' et al. She looked down again and immediately whipped her head back up. Snatching her phone, she called up Sam. "Who brought the kid? I thought he was an intern!" "Well, he, ah, snuck...in? He's very good at that apparently? We didn't know until we were halfway over the Pacific Ocean. And, well, I shouldn’t be telling you this but he’s Spiderman. Terrible at hiding his identity, how have you lot not discovered yet?" "Where the hell are you?" "One of your relatives dragged Steve and me to...God I don't even fuckin' know where. I'm sleepy." "Nap in the car." "You know I get car sick." "You fly around in metal wings all day and the one place you have motion sickness is in a CAR?" you shout whispered and dissolved into giggles. "Not now, woman. Oh, by the way, your boyfriend's being interrogated by your family." "Poor thing. I'm not rescuing him, though. I still have a dozen pages left of this thing." ~ "Iss bachhe ko khone mat dena, Pinky. Iron man ka beta hai." (Don't let the child get lost, he's Iron Man's son) "Bachha toh woh hai nahi kisi angle se. Shobhit bola Sunita Chachi ki scooty phas gayi thi, almost utha li poori isne nikalte hue." (he’s not a kid from any angle. Shobhit said Aunt Sunita’s scooter was stuck, he almost lifted the whole thing taking it out.)  Pinky remarked, cutting a tiny piece of the cucumber she was peeling and rubbing it against the rest. "Kadvahat chali jayegi, aapki jaati hai na jaise jiju ko dekh kar." (The bitterness will go, like yours goes after you see jija) (this actually works, btw, cut off a tiny piece and rub it against the rest of the cucumber and it isn’t bitter anymore) "Chup kar ja." (“shut up”) "Any luck with the gas?" "Another agent, who managed to infiltrate found traces of chloroform there. They're claiming it's for industrial purposes. How is that poisonous?" "Well once it reacts with sunlight, chloroform forms...what was it called? It was a question in the NEET! Something with a P, or a F?" "Phosgene." The kid answered, who'd clearly sneaked up to them while they hadn't noticed. Pinky frowned at him. "Haan, phosgene. It's been used in chemical warfare too. Drop a chloroform bomb, it'll react with sunlight and boom, carcinogenic gas that's pretty toxic." "It caused 85,000 deaths in world war 1." Peter added, not even glancing at Pinky who was glaring at him like he was a fresh piece of meat. "Dara mat usko Pinky." (don’t scare him, pinky) "Dara hua hi lag raha hai. Ab darr kis se raha hai yeh nahi pata." (well he does look scared, of what I don’t know) ~ "Your cousin was scaring the kid." "Who? Pinky? Everyone's scared of her. Maybe she thinks he's cute. Kids are weird like that." YN whispered to Nat as she squatted, adjusting the pleats of Natasha's sari. She looked stunning and perhaps even more of YN's small army of cousins would ask her out. Her answering glare was always scary to them, and amusing to YN. “This reminds me of last new year’s. I distinctly remember you dancing.” "Well, that was too much vodka. Involuntary. I plead not guilty." She smiled down at YN. "And I suppose you're going to set the stage on fire? Steve's going to have the time of his life watching you." "Could you maybe shut up about that?" "Self denial is going to get you nowhere." "She's right Di." Pinky snidely remarked as she sat up. "And no, the...well he's technically not a kid, Bucky said he's my age." "Perfect, date him. You'll get a job at Stark Industries, pakka. (for sure)" "Stop discussing my non existent relationship, please. Poor jija was red today by the time he came back with all the chachas*. Bet you missed him during your afternoon nap, with how you were cuddling me with a death grip. I'm not your bloody mattress." "Well, Pinky, when you get used to fuckin 6'4 Captain America as your mattress, nothing quite compares, eh, YN?" Nat teased her. "You two gremlins should've never met. Natasha, sit down and stop making stuff up. I've never, erm, used him as a mattress." "Oh was he on top then?" Pinky asked, smirking. At YN's gasp she rolled her eyes. "I study the human body, didi, have some respect for the profession." "Tum bio wale sachhi mei tharki hote ho."* (you bio people are really horny)* ~
“Shit.” YN draped the saree around her shoulder but the pleats looked awkward.  An emergency call from the states had delayed her getting ready. The cocktail party was probably held for the benefit of her foreign friends. Or maybe her cousins just wanted an excuse to drink. Pinky and Nat had both wandered off, Pinky promising her tons of alcohol in exchange for all the stares. “YN?” Steve asked as he stood in the doorway, eyes widening and jaw nearly dropping to the floor at how gorgeous he looked. “Yeah?” “Nat and the others were-uh, they were asking for you…” “Yeah, had a call from Tony, he was asking how it was going. Could you, uhm, help me with these pleats? I’d ask Pinky but she disappeared…” “Yeah, uh, what do you want me to do?” “Just-just bend and pull on them, lightly. Don’t do it too hard.” “Like that?” he gently tugged, aligning the pleats. She turned once in the mirror. “Yeah, perfect.” It struck them both at the same time how awkward their current predicament was. He stood up  blushing scarlett and she smiled and looked away. She’d never worn a saree in front of him, he’d only ever seen some old photos on her instagram from her college farewell. The tiny sliver of skin she had exposed at the waist and the mostly backless blouse drove him crazy. Resisting the impulse to run a finger along her waist, he coughed instead. She took no notice, busy trying to perfect herr winged eyeliner. Swiping some nude gloss and some pearl drop earrings to complement the cream of her saree, she pulled some curls out from her updo. “Come on then.” he offered her his arm as they set off for the gardens. ~ “You seem to be enjoying enormously, fake boyfriend and all.” Nat smirked as YN offered her a glass of champagne. “Oh shush.” “You do remember the last time you got drunk? Nat didi told me. No repeat performances, please. Your mother would kill us all.” “Nat! Stop spreading lies!” “So you didn’t sleep with him? You’re the real fattu, YN” “Now who taught you that?” “You talk in your sleep. And Pinky dearest was ready to translate.” “You two need to stay away. Pinky, you nerd, don’t you have anything to study? Or maybe even taado (check out)” “Oh so you’re crushing on spider-boy? How cute, YN’s softened them up with Steve, swoop in and take advantage.” “Spare me, please. Goras* aren’t really my type.” ~ She slipped and almost fell on the stairs she was climbing to her room. Steve, coming up from behind, caught her. Pinky had told him to drop her off to bed after YN and Nat both did a series of unending shots, horrifying the rest of the cousins. The elders were off to offer prayers in some temple in their ancestral village and the young ones were busy partying. She giggled like a teenager as she gazed up at him. “Kiss me, Steve.” “Not now. Not when you’re drunk and…” “You can’t get drunk, and when I’m sober even then you’re too scared to admit anything. Is there really nothing between us, Steve?” she sniffed. “Let me get you to bed, YN.” Pinky, coming up the stairs after putting a very drunk Natasha to bed, paused and retreated, smiling. “Sach toh yeh hai, fatti hai teri. Haath se bandi nikal jayegi, tab rona baithke.” (the truth is, it scares you. When the girl is gone, then you’ll sit and cry.) She punched his chest once and fainted in a drunk stupor. He picked her up bridal style and climbed up the rest of the way, gently placing her on the bed and kissing her cheek. Coming down, he almost bumped into Pinky, who smiled at him and wished him good night. ~ “Hey bhagwaan, my head hurts.” “Mmmm, with amount of vodka you and nat guzzled last night, I almost didn’t expect you to wake up.” She frowned at Sam over a cup of coffee. "I'm very hungover, Sam, I won't hesitate to kill." "Ooh, I'm so scared." "In all the excitement of YN's cousin's wedding, have you lot forgotten what you were sent to do?" Fury's voice crackled over the phone in YN's hand. "Paperwork and permits are a bitch. And we can't technically take them in if all they have is chloroform." "Then do another raid at night. Take him in, we'll slap on a record or two." "That'll take time to plan. And also, more paperwork." "Jesus, I'll ask Richardson to tackle all that. The 3 of them and the spiderkid will be enough for a minor takedown I suppose." "Tell him to hurry, then. We'll do the strike in 3 days." ~ "We get in, we detain him, S.H.I.E.L.D swoops in and takes care of the mess. He's got enough violations to keep him in local jail while the rest of the world fights over who gets to keep him." "This dude is fucked up. He's a weapons manufacturer from Tony's days and even has HYDRA contacts. You sure we can take him?" Steve read his brief as the Avengers sat discussing the plan of attack. "If he continues using ancient shit to 'return the world to the glory and safety of the dark ages' then yeah, not a problem." Sam shrugged. "Why do I feel this is a trap we're walking into? How do we know he hasn't anything much more sinister planned?" Natasha rested her chin in her hands. "This isn't his turf; no one's going to set up death machines because he feels like it. Perhaps why he's using the 'setting up a business' excuse. I doubt he has anything much more severe." "Call for backup, YN-” “Didi? What are you doing here? Chalo! (let’s go!) They’re asking for you at the haldi!” Pinky grabbed YN by the arm. “Aapka mehendi ke liye lehenga bhi alter hoke aagaya, lene kon jayege usse? Chalo, chalo!” (Your lehenga for the mehendi ceremony has come back from being altered, who’s going to pick it up? Come on, let’s go!) ~ She affectionately rubbed the turmeric paste on Rahul’s forehead as he frowned. Giggling, she handed off the plate to Shweta, Rahul’s twin.  She and Pinky walked off as the others took over to join in the haldi*. “We do miss you when you’re not around, you know,” Pinky bumped YN with her shoulder. “You insist on living so far away.” “Pinks, I don’t know. It always felt like I chased dreams that for others were too…” “Too big for us simple people?” “You know I don’t mean it like that…” YN frowned at her phone incessantly ringing. “Oh, it's probably the dude from the Ministry, foreign missions are always so iffy- Hello?” “Agent L/N, it's been a long time…” The voice on the other end chuckled as YN immediately recognized the figure walking towards her. She shrieked, “AARUSH! Kutte! (you dog!) You could’ve told me!” “Wanted to surprise you, and I heard Rahul was getting married. Couldn’t believe, only yesterday he was yelling his head off about how he had passed the JEE. And look at you, you’ve…” “I’ll leave you two to catch up.” Pinky grinned as she took off. ~ “So that’s the dude that’s our site rep?” Steve narrowed his eyes at the two people hugging and chatting on the lawn. “Yes, Fury sent a mail. And he seems to be exceptionally close to our favourite agent.” Natasha smiled at Steve desperately attempting to keep a neutral face. “Yes, he’s her ex. They both joined the army together, before that they were classmates.” Pinky put down the sweets she was carrying, joining Steve and Natasha on the verandah. “We always thought they’d end up together. The Patels have been neighbours for ages. But YN never wanted anything to hold her down, I suppose.” “Hmm.” Nat and Pinky both eyed each other, the red head raising her eyebrows and the other just shrugging. Later, as they stood gossiping over chai and biscuits in the middle of the night, Pinky told her all about YN’s once boyfriend. “In Hindi, the word for jealousy is the same as burning, and I’d say we saw a pretty big flame today.” “They’ve been like that for ages. I thought after last new year's they would at least take a step forward, but it seems they want to play around. Speaking of which,” Nat followed Pinky’s gaze towards Peter sleeping on the living room sofa, the rest of YN’s younger cousins sleeping on the floor, “Don’t go the same path as your sister. If there is something that can be pursued down that avenue…” “And what about when he goes back? And the fact I have a whole life here, unlike YN didi who gave it all up at a moment’s notice. Not that I blame her, family is always complicated.” “I came here for a mission but apparently I’m the relationship therapist now. Thanks for the tea, I’ll check in on Steve and his poor heart.” “Oh, poor Jiju*.” ~ Glossary: *Sangeet: a ceremony with tons of dancing, Idk man it doesn’t happen in weddings in West Bengal, which is where I’m from *Chacha: younger brother of one’s father *Chachas: the plural of chacha *The horse thing; In Hindu weddings traditionally the groom arrives on horseback, this just displays how eager the aunties are to get one of their daughters married to bucky *The bio thing: the context for this is pretty confusing asgdhfk basically in your senior year you have to opt for one out of three main streams: Science, Commerce or Humanities. Science has 2 compulsory subjects: physics and chemistry and you choose between biology or maths. The people with maths often consider the ones with bio as, well horny basically because we study reproduction and such (blatant lies, maths people are always hornier) *Goras- a pretty rude-ish word for a foreigner, particularly one that’s light skinned *Haldi- a ceremony where turmeric paste is rubbed on the bride’s and groom’s bodies, the reason behind it is possibly cosmetic *Jiju-abbreviated form of jija, i.e. sister’s husband
This is my hc for YN’s cocktail party saree and this is what a kurta looks like
