Factually, I know that there are a bunch of younger people in the marauders/wolfstar fandom who haven't actually read the books, but the thing I just can't wrap my mind around is: WHY??? And I don't even mean it in the sense of "these kids are ruining the fandom and should read the canon before they start writing fics" (well... at least not entirely). I mean that I utterly don't get it as a choice for them. Like, there is SO MUCH media out there that (a) has way better canon, (b) has canonically queer characters, and (c) wasn't written by a racist TERF. For example, Young Royals. In itself, a really good show. And if these new MWPP fans' fics are anything to go by, it has the exactly the kind of character archetypes, character relationships, and story lines that these folks are actually interested in seeing/reading. There's also Good Omens, OFMD, the (small but great) the Old Guard, etc. The options are abundant these days!
Now, for all I know, a lot of these folks might be in a few of these other better-suited fandoms in addition to MWPP. But why do they bother with MWPP at all? I get that MWPP & Harry Potter in general is a bigger, older fandom with a lot of existing content. But I feel like this newer pack of MWPP fans could really help build up more vibrant communities in the fandoms that genuinely suit them if they just invested their time & energy on that instead of on attempting to shoehorn characters & story arcs that they don't even (canonically) like into a form they enjoy.
I have many thoughts about this, actually! It's an interesting thing to discuss.
(I'm going to start out by saying that if you're a newer/younger fan here and you are reading this post...cool, you do you. I understand that the hyperfixation brain worms sometimes lead you places you didn't expect and you can't extract yourself very easily. But I'm still going to talk about how it 'tis a bit puzzling to me.)
This is not going to be universal at all, but I find personally that the fandoms I'm more active in are the ones where the queer relationships aren't canon, or are only hinted at very very slightly. Like, I wrote 18 fics for Good Omens before the romance was confirmed, and after that I wrote...1. I've written one fic for Maurice and 130 for Sherlock. I think that once the couple I want to get together is actually confirmed in canon, there's nothing left for me to do, you know? No more writing sandbox to play in. Don't get me wrong, I'm ecstatic that Aziraphale and Crowley kissed and I cannot wait for season 3. I'm just not as compelled to write fic for that fandom now as I am for, say, Temeraire. So I can see people being more drawn to write for MWPP, with so many possibilities to play with and so many characters/couples, as opposed to Young Royals, which was a fun show to watch but I am not compelled to write anything for because the romance already played out on screen! Same with OFMD and Old Guard - LOVED watching them, don't really feel compelled to write for them.
Obviously this is not universal because those fandoms are thriving, but it's just kind of how my brain works.
Also, there must be something about the way that Sirius's and Remus's characters have been watered down/changed entirely for TikTok videos that is compelling to the younger crowd. I don't know, because I don't go there, but I've heard so many younger fans say they started shipping Wolfstar because of what they saw on TikTok.
So...yeah. I am as baffled as you! With the abundance of queer content out there not written by a TERF, it is definitely surprising to see the fandom gain new members. I am only here because Sirius Black grabbed me by the throat when I was 7 years old and hasn't let go since. If I hadn't been seized by the series at a formative age (and before her TERFness was known), I don't know if I would have gotten into it as an adult. But I can't speak for those fans! I can only speculate, like you.

⤷ gender neutral, ambiguous race, and any size reader. Requests are open, thank you for reading!
a/n: How are we feeling about this moodboard? Merlin BBC doesn’t have a lot of edits/icons/gifs so I’m trying to be creative ... please give your honest thought✌🏼
ᴹᵃˢᵗᵉʳˡᶤˢᵗ
SFW🌿
𝑲𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑨𝒓𝒕𝒉𝒖𝒓
⭑ Gifts, gifts, and more gifts.
⭑ He loves giving you jewelry; and he doesn’t need a reason. He is the King, so he can do whatever he pleases. So, you have jewelry boxes full of jewels, silver, gold, etc.
⭑ He wants to impress you; for you to think that he’s an important man who has no limits.
⭑ He gets Merlin to do the heavy work though
    “Merlin! Merlin where are you? I need you to shine this-”
“I’ve spent hours shining that damn necklace!”
      “It’s not glittering right. Why isn’t it glittering right?!”
⭑ He loves horseback riding. Arthur LOVES showing off, and looking like he knows exactly what he’s doing.
⭑ All his efforts of looking suave fail. So much so that you can’t stop laughing. So, laughter is a big part of your courtship. Arthur loves your laugh, your smile. The way your eyes light up.
𝑴𝒆𝒓𝒍𝒊𝒏
⭑ He’s very thoughtful and likes to woo you with things that are meaningful.
⭑ Merlin will find out your favourite things and surprise you with them.
⭑ He asked you on a date one afternoon after he had been pumped up by Gwaine.
  “You can do this Merlin,” Gwaine said while grabbing the sorcerer’s shoulders.
“Yeah, yeah of course I can ... I can do this! No, wait, Gwaine. I can’t-”
⭑ He did though, only because you had overheard the conversation and couldn’t wait for him. So, you walked up behind him, tapped his shoulder, and said ‘‘yes, where are going to go?”
⭑ Merlin will use magic, he definitely will. Making the fireflies glow brighter, the fire burn warmer.
⭑ He loves resting his forehead against yours. Being still with one another, noses touching, hands holding the others’.
𝑺𝒊𝒓 𝑮𝒘𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒆
⭑ He would flirt with you without shame. Trying to charm you with his best efforts. You would flirt back, not taking anything from it - it was harmless. It didn’t mean anything.
⭑ Until Gwaine couldn’t get you out of his head. And you lived there absolutely rent-free.
⭑ He yearns to be around you. The way your mind works ... he doesn’t know many people like that.
⭑ Gwaine would spend a lot of time with you. Wanting to get to know everything about you. He’d ask questions, probe, poke, wanting to see every side of you.
⭑ He’s very excitable and likes to thrill seek with you.
⭑ Gwaine loves to play fight with you, but also train you to be able to defend yourself. He’s fun-loving and always makes sure you’re having a good time.
𝑺𝒊𝒓 𝑳𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒕
⭑ He courts you with grace and the utmost respect. He always makes sure you’re comfortable and well.
⭑ Very protective but in a subtle way - he doesn’t arc up when another guy is looking at you, but is able to diffuse any situation.
⭑ Lots and lots and lots of flowers. New ones everyday. And they aren’t even bouquets; they could be from a garden or in the forest. At one point you felt bad that he was picking them from nature, so he bought seeds and asked for a place to plant them. He then tended to the seeds for weeks, and eventually they started to grow.
⭑ He said “now you can have flowers everyday, for as long as they grow, I will be here.”
⭑ Light touches; moving the hair from your face and gently removing an eyelash from your face.
⭑ He often leaves you needy and wanting more; but he isn’t meaning to tease you. He’s just that soft.
𝑺𝒊𝒓 𝑳𝒆𝒐𝒏
⭑ He courts you through food and good conversation. Either making the food himself, taking you to the markets, or asking the royal cooks to make something special for you.
⭑ Leon loves making you feel content -
 “Are you warm enough, my love?”
 “Do you want another slice?”
 “How are you feeling?”
⭑ He may not seek out exciting adventures, but that’s what you like about Leon. He’s grounding and that’s how he caught your heart. You need someone secure, someone safe.
⭑ The first few months into your courtship, he never let the two of you be alone together. He wanted to be traditional. But that didn’t really work because he was so in love with you. Therefore, he would take the food to your door so he could focus on eating, rather than ... you
⭑ He loves being in your company - and courts you by spending quality time with you. Where Gwaine asks questions and listens with focus, your time with Leon would be just ... existing in each other’s presence. Not pushing anything; just letting whatever comes up - comes up.
𝑺𝒊𝒓 𝑷𝒆𝒓𝒄𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒍
⭑ His intent in courting you is to make you feel wanted. He knows what it’s like to be left out, so Percival makes sure you’re included and desired.
⭑ When he first saw you in the tavern, he didn’t think much of you - it wasn’t until you cut a man off and had to practically throw him out that he was enamored with you.
⭑ Percival loves PDA, he doesn’t have a problem with it at all. He wants to hold your hand, kiss your neck, and have you in his lap.
⭑ He’s actually a good singer and will hum things when you’re together without knowing it.
⭑ Likes to dance with you - whether that’s inside, around people, or outside, underneath the moon
⭑ He isn’t overly romantic, because he’s somewhat clueless in these matters. But he does his best to show his feelings through action.
𝑺𝒊𝒓 𝑬𝒍𝒚𝒂𝒏
⭑ He likes making you feel safe. Throughout your courtship, he always went the extra mile. Walking you to your front door (literally, he’ll wait until you’ve gone in. But he never goes inside until you invite him.)
⭑ Elyan wants to show you new things; share new experiences with you. Going on adventures and creating memories.
⭑ He’ll call in after his watch and make sure you’re okay.
⭑ If you need any errands done but don’t want to do them - he’s your man
⭑ Wants you to know that if you have any problems, he’ll fix them. No matter what they are. There’s a leak? He’ll patch it up, you’re fighting with your sister? He’ll sit and let you vent.
⭑ Elyan would make you feel less alone in this huge world. He knows how it feel to be alone, and never wants that for you.

if you're still bleeding
Pairing: Jax/M!Merc
Words: 2657
Summary: Jax should know better. He should know to mind his own damn business. But, unfortunately, he's well beyond "knowing better" now that he's gone and gotten tangled up with an unhinged mercenary with more knives than sense, and the scars that say the chances of him finding any sense are slim to none.
and if you're still bleeding, you're the lucky ones.
'cause most of our feelings, they are dead and they are gone.
we're setting fire to our insides for fun.
collecting pictures from a flood that wrecked our home,
it was a flood that wrecked this home.
- "Youth" by Daughter
CW for: implied/referenced sex, sexual humor/innuendos, references to blood, violence, and trauma, and implications of kink
Knox is a man with scars.
Jax has plenty of his own, of course, but Knox has a lot of scars. There's a story to most of them, too, and he's never shy about telling them. Hell, half the time he tells those stories completely unprompted, whether you want him to or not.
There's a scar on his chin from where Royal told him he couldn't knee slide the entire bar. There’s the ugly knot of scar tissue where his left arm used to be, where the port to his prosthetic is grafted on. There's the scar in his stomach from the mook Jax had to help him bury. There's a scar on his lip where he bit himself too hard with his freakishly sharp teeth trying to keep quiet while Jax bent him over the hood of his car outside Saints and Sinners in the wee hours of the morning.
He's particularly happy to blab the story about that one to anyone who'll listen.
But he doesn't talk about the scar across his throat.
As little clothing as he tends to wear on the day to day, ("As little as I can get away with," he says with a sleazy wink) his neck is always covered. High-collared shirts, a jauntily knotted scarf, decorative chokers and heavy leather collars always keep it covered. He'll flash his tits before he'll show his throat—but in all fairness, it's not really all that hard to get him to flash his tits.
Jax didn't even see the scar until the fourth or fifth inadvisable hate fuck, at which point he was beginning to think he didn't hate the merc quite as much as he thought, considering he kept letting the little bastard in when he showed up at the door out of nowhere—and didn't shoot him when he decided to forgo the door entirely and come in through the window. (Jax still can’t be sure how he even got to the window, seeing as Jax lives in an apartment well above ground level, but he figures he’s better off not asking.) He didn’t think to ask about it until he’d actually lost count of how many inadvisable hate-fucks there’d been, and when they’d progressed somehow from inadvisable hate-fucks to still pretty inadvisable but otherwise amicable casual fucks.
Knox was loose and relaxed, quiet in a way Jax didn't even think was possible when they first met. And, to think, all it took was shoving him face down into the pillows and thoroughly wearing him out. Usually, he rolled out of bed as soon as his legs could hold him again, commandeered Jax's shower, and used half a bottle of his expensive conditioner before he disappeared without so much as a thank you. This time, he stayed. He sprawled gracelessly across Jax's sweat-stained silk sheets, arms stretched over his head, eyes half-closed and his ever-smirking mouth curled into something softer... almost sweeter.
Jax doesn't know what possessed him to roll over, to reach out and touch, but he did. He started at the inner thigh, the bruises he'd left with teeth and then fingers, a rumbling of possessive pride stoking the banked coals of satisfaction in his belly. His knuckles skimmed the soft curve of the merc's belly, the angry red scar tissue of that knife wound, then higher still. Inked into his sternum is a coyote skull, surrounded by boldly outlined flowers that curve along the underside of his breasts. Jax was almost surprised by the softness of the design, especially in comparison to the rest of the merc's ink, like the crude stick-and-poke perforated line and little pair of scissors right above his prosthetic, or the dirty pinup of some generic muscled pretty boy on his bicep, or the peach on his inner thigh that bears an artful addition of a T-dick very much similar to Knox’s own.
He wondered vaguely if the flowers meant anything to Knox.
Before he could dwell on the uncomfortably tender direction his thoughts had taken, his fingers travelled upwards, flicking absently at one of the heavy, angular piercing through Knox's nipples. Knox huffed a rough laugh, watching the progress of Jax's hand through eyes narrowed to dozy, yellow slits.
He traced Knox's collarbone, and his body was all but melted into Jax's bed, soft and pliant. Like he belonged there.
And then Jax’s curiosity got the better of him. He saw the scar, a thin line, pale with age, but standing in stark relief against Knox's tanned skin. It sits at a bit of an angle, slicing across the middle of the merc's throat.
The second his fingers made contact, skimming that raised line of flesh, he knew he'd fucked up.
Knox's body went taut for a split second, and that was all the warning Jax got before Knox was twisting his wrist hard enough for the bones to grind together and snarling in his face like a wild animal. If his knives weren't two rooms away in his discarded pile of clothes, Jax knows he would have lost fingers.
For once, Knox didn't say anything. For once, he was dead silent, mouth a grim sneer, eyes flat and hard. He shoved Jax roughly off him and rolled out of bed. He didn't look back once, stalking out of Jax's bedroom naked, every inch of his compactly muscled body vibrating with tension. Jax heard the rustle of clothes, the jingle of buckles and zippers and a half dozen knives, and then the front door slamming shut.
He didn't see Knox again until Orla called them in for another job, and it was as if nothing had happened. He was his usual smug, annoying self, not a single break in his usual facade of irreverent humor and Napoleonic bravado.
And maybe some of Knox's reckless stupidity is rubbing off on him, because Jax can't shake the curiosity that grips him, even now. He shoves it down, naturally, because he doesn't want the batshit merc to get twitchy on him again when he's got enough knives on him at any given time to outfit a military squadron. Hell, for all Jax knows, that's the end of it. He's not going to go crawling back to Knox (even if the sex is really fucking good—it's always the crazy ones, isn’t it?) and he knows Knox won't come to him first.
Except he does, dragging Jax into one of the back rooms after a meeting with Orla, shoving him against the wall, and dropping to his knees. Things go right back to normal after that, or as normal as they ever are with Coyote Fucking Knox. And as normal as they can be once Orla oh-so-sweetly reminds him there are cameras in the back rooms, and if he doesn't want stills of his dick forwarded to the entire Mirage gang, he'll keep his and Knox's exhibitionism where she doesn't have to see it.
So Knox continues to invade Jax's privacy, steal petty shit from his apartment and/or pockets, and loudly demand that Jax fuck him hoarse (-er) if he wants him to shut up.
And he winds up tangled in Jax's sheets again, sprawled out on his belly with one leg tossed over Jax's thigh, his face smashed into a pillow, one smug yellow eye watching Jax try to catch his breath beside him.
He could let it be. It's not like this is anything but a convenience. Some fun between… well, they're definitely not friends. Coworkers, if anything, and even that's pushing it. For a while, Jax considered it a fair trade for dealing with Knox's bullshit constantly. Now, it's becoming a pattern, and when it comes to semi-regular sex with a stab-happy mercenary, patterns can be dangerous.
But he can't kill the curiosity.
He figures his best bet is being blunt. And maybe getting ready to dodge in the very likely event things go south. He doesn't touch this time, at least not where they aren't already, Knox’s knee between his legs, the skin feeling a bit feverish and clammy as the sweat cools. The urge to touch is still there—he left some nice bite marks on Knox's shoulders he'd like to reacquaint himself with—but he ignores it for now. He rolls onto his side, meets that one yellow eye with quiet consideration, and props his head up on his hand.
Knox must read the change in his face, because he goes from cat-got-the-cream contentment to a warily curious tension. Jax just goes right for the throat, so to speak. “Any chance of hearing the story behind that one?” he says, casual as anything, and nods in the vague direction of Knox’s neck.
There’s a growling noise building up behind Knox’s teeth, but he bites it back. He smiles, but it feels feral, like an animal baring its teeth looks like a smile, but it's really a threat. It looks brittle, like it'll shatter if he tightens his jaw any further.
Jax gives in to the urge, reaching out to touch, fingertips skimming down the mercenary's spine. A shiver ripples across the skin. He’s not sure if it’s the right move, but at this point, if you’re going to Hell...
“I don’t know,” Knox says flatly, and Jax is almost shocked he answered at all. There’s no inflection, no mirth. Just that broken-glass smile.
Jax snorts. Knox never fucking shuts up, that much is true, but Jax isn’t stupid. He knows when someone’s talking a lot and saying nothing of importance on purpose, and he also knows when Knox can’t deflect, he lies his ass off like he was born to do it. Even Orla barely knows anything about her least favorite favorite merc or where he came from, though the chances of her caring enough to even try to find out are slim to none. Still, he has no idea what the mercenary even has to gain from lying, especially here. "If you don't want to say anything, just tell me to fuck off."
The knife edge smile stretches wider. Tips closer to the breaking point. "Fuck off," he echoes like a parrot.
Something starts to uncurl in Jax's gut, something burbling and acidic, a nasty niggling feeling he can't quite name. "You're serious," he says, and he doesn't want to believe it, mostly because he can't imagine someone like Knox taking that sort of… personal unknown well. “Nothing?”
The smile cracks, and Knox lifts his head so Jax gets the full effect of it. His eyes are wide, wild, and suddenly that smile is too big for his face. Slowly, he sits up, and there's the scar. Old and faded, but splitting his throat neatly and boldly from east to west. He drags his thumb across it, digs it in hard enough the white scar tissue goes a bit pink. He laughs. He's never had a pleasant laugh, rough and raspy and mean. Somehow, this one is worse. “Not a lick,” he drawls, and the effort it takes him to sound so casual almost makes Jax cringe. “There’s a reason Orla found me in the fuckin’ bargain bin.” He taps his temple, his messily painted nail clicking against the chip in his head.
Jax’s eyes flick down to the scar, frowning deeply. It doesn’t make sense. Knox is deflecting again, he has to be, but there’s something in the way he’s holding himself, the tension radiating from him, the way he slumps against the headboard of Jax’s bed with his knees pulled up, not quite close enough to hug to his chest, but more like he’s thinking about it, resisting the urge to physically hold himself together and risk looking weak.
"I have nightmares, sometimes," he admits, so soft the syllables catch on the rough edges of his ragged voice. "They never make any fucking sense. I'm just… I'm choking. Something’s cutting into my neck, and there’s someone behind me, and I know them, but— But I'm guilty? I don't know for what." He laughs, bitterly brittle. "Could be fucking anything. Got a lot to be guilty for that I can remember, never mind what I can't."
He inhales, and it sounds like it hurts him, like his breath is made of shards of glass. He drags his hand down his face until he can curl his fingers around his throat so the scar doesn't show. "I just know there's this perfume Orla wears that makes me want to climb the fucking walls and I don't know why. I think I know how to play the piano, but I can’t even look at one without wanting to smash it to pieces. Sometimes I hear some… some fucking opera song, or some shit? And I know the words, and I want to sing along, but then my voice just—just cracks, and I feel like… like a broken fucking wind-up toy? It's like my head doesn't remember anything, but the rest of me does and it makes me so fucking angry. What am I missing? Why does it matter?” His voice hitches dangerously, and there’s a stab of panic in Jax’s belly, his hands twitching like they want to—to reach out? “Why can’t it just leave me the fuck alone?"
Knox squeezes his own throat so hard the skin dimples around his fingers and bleeds white where he’s cutting off bloodflow. His shoulders tremble. There's something in the furrow of his brow, the twist of his mouth, that says angry isn't the only thing it makes him, but he either doesn't have the words to say it, or he just won't, not even to himself.
The silence falls again. Jax always thought he preferred silence where Knox was concerned. Turns out he was wrong. This silence is brutal, heavy and choking and just… wrong. When Knox does see fit to break it, it's with a loud exhale that almost makes Jax start.
"Would you look at the time," the merc says loudly, shaking out his bare wrist and looking at it critically. Jax could almost laugh. Knox tosses his legs over the edge of the bed smiling crookedly over his shoulder. "I should really head out, huh? Don't wanna overstay my welcome."
Before he can think, Jax snaps a hand out and catches Knox’s hip, squeezing. Not enough to stop him if he really wants to go, but enough to give him pause. Once again, Jax counts himself lucky they rarely make it to the bedroom before one or both of them are naked, which means all those knives are somewhere by the door, or scattered across his coffee table, or in the leather jacket tossed over the back of his couch. Coyote turns slightly, just enough to eyeball him. Just one yellow eye.
There's a lot Jax could say, a lot he even wants to, but there's something raw in that one yellow eye, something wary and broken that just wants to hide somewhere quiet and lick its wounds. They've been at this for way too fucking long at this point, Jax should know what to do with that, shouldn't he?
Maybe he does.
He snorts. "When the fuck have you ever cared about overstaying your welcome?" He smacks Knox's hip just on the wrong side of gentle, and rolls over. "You're not leaving until you help me change these sheets. Hell, maybe if I'm feeling generous, I'll let you back in bed after we shower."
He pushes up to his feet and stretches out the kinks in his muscles, allowing himself to luxuriate in the pleasant soreness leftover from their romp. Knox is quiet behind him, and he can't really think of when he actually started to trust the crazy bastard enough to turn his back to him.
Knox makes a rough little sound, something not quite a laugh. "Is that an order, Sir?" he asks, low and raspy-sweet.
Jax glances back with a raised eyebrow. "Do I need to make it one?"

I'm just soo obsessed with Menkuare!! (I don't know why.. but he just has that charm.) Where did you get his character inspiration from? And also, I want to learn more about him. Anything. Please <3 (Ugh there needs to be more fanfictions~ or if you're interested, I'M definitely interested in side stories). I think this game has got to be my favourite!!!
I do have a side story for Menkaure, but just one. It used to be on my Patreon, but since I took the page down many months ago, it's just sitting there... in silence. I guess I could post it here for all of you to enjoy. First, let mi say a few things about the story. It's written in the second person (gender neutral) because I wanted you to be able to feel like it's about you and Menkaure. You are an Egyptian scribe from Iunu (Heliopolis), and you were sent by the vizier to deliver an important scroll to Pharaoh Menkaure. The story takes place a few days before Menkaure's fight with Aqenenre that ended with his imprisonment.
Let's go! (Oh, and there might be spoilers!)
You are nervous. So. Incredibly. Nervous. While this isn’t your first time at the royal palace, it is the first time you’re going to stand before the Pharaoh. You’re walking down the corridor leading to the throne room. Your hands are shaking, your fingers wrapped around the sealed papyrus scroll that you received from the vizier. He told you to take it and deliver it to the king without delay. You wanted to ask about its contents to know what you would be delivering to the most important person in the land, but a single look at the vizier told you that it was not the time for your curiosity.
When you reach the doors to the throne room, the guards stop you and ask why you’ve come, but as soon as you show them the seal on the scroll, their eyes go wide, and they let you inside.
The throne room is enormous, and you have not doubt that it’s the third most magnificent building you’ve ever seen, right after the Great Temple of Ra in Iunu and the Pyramid of the Solar Barque. You find yourself standing at the beginning of a long, intricately crafted path leading from the door all the way to the throne. As you start walking this beautiful road, you pass by hundreds of wonderfully decorated columns and dozens of monumental statues. They are all full of color, and each represents a different form of the sun-god Ra. When you look up, you notice that the ceiling is so far away, you can barely see it. This is probably supposed to make the visitors feel small in comparison with the king.
As you get closer to the pedestal with the throne, you notice that the Pharaoh is sitting there with his eyes closed. Menkaure. You’ve never been this close to him. Well, that’s not really your fault. He has only become the Pharaoh a few months ago. You were familiar with the previous king, Aqenenre, but Menkaure is… very different. His skin is warm, eyes beautifully painted black and lips red like blood. His white tunic is revealing enough to give you reason to believe that his body must be just as strong and impressive as his face.
“I know you’re looking at me,” he says, raising his eyelids.
You’re about to protest, when you realize that his hazel eyes are looking at you with an intensity that makes your heart beat faster. You’re drowning in them, and you know you’d give everything to stay like this forever. You thought he looked very royal, when he was sitting there with his eyes closed, but now… he doesn’t look royal. He looks like a god. His energy reminds you a lot of Ra, but it is much less serious, and much more… sexual.
“Forgive me, Your Majesty,” you mutter. “I’m forgetting myself, and I was sent here with an important delivery.”
Menkaure gives you a small smile that feels a bit like a smirk. “I know, why you’re here. I also know what’s in that sealed letter.” He must notice your surprised expression because he laughs out loud. “Did you forget I was a god? Nothing is a secret from me. At least not for long. Let me see this scroll.”
As he says this, he snaps his fingers and the papyrus appears in his hands. Your eyes go wide once again, but his laughter makes you let out a sigh of relief. You’ve done your duty, and you’re now free to go back to your work. You still have a bit of that scroll to copy, and the First Scribe did say she needed it done today.
You’re about to bow and take your leave, when Menkaure raises his hand to stop you. He has stood from his throne, and he’s studying you with those incredible eyes. You gulp, unable to move.
“Now, now,” he says. “You weren’t going to leave me, were you?”
“Your majesty?” you ask, unsure how to answer.
“Walk with me. Let’s go to the gardens.”
As you enter the royal gardens, you are struck with so many intense sensations your head starts spinning. Fields of freshly cut grass, lines of date palms, and ponds full of white and blue lotus flowers. All of these make you want to lay down and just enjoy the nature. But you probably shouldn’t… You and Menkaure are following a golden path, one of many in this magical place. Is he leading you somewhere?
“Not really,” he says, answering your unspoken question. “Do you like it here?”
As you’re considering this, a sweet smell of dates reaches your nose, making you smile. This place is very charming, and you wish you could come here in your spare time. Unfortunately, it is reserved only for the members of the royal family. Well, you can always just visit the gardens near the Great Temple of Ra. Those are open to everyone.
“You have a lovely smile,” Menkaure says, pulling you out of your thoughts.
As soon as you hear this, you feel yourself blush. D-did the Pharaoh of Egypt really just give you a compliment? It didn’t even sound like a normal compliment you could give your friend. His voice made is sound… like something more.
“Your Majesty,” you start, afraid to look him in the eyes, “I’m truly flattered and grateful for your kindness, but is it really the best time for… this? The vizier said this message was incredibly important.”
“I know that,” he says, gently raising your chin with his fingers to make you look at him. “I understand your worry, but I assure you that you have nothing to be afraid of. I already know the contents of this message. Aqenenre is coming to fight me in Iunu. He’s not willing to give up the throne.”
“Aren’t you concerned?”
He smiles when you say that. “I’m glad you didn’t ask me if I was afraid. No. I am not concerned. Aqenenre might have found some secret writings that gave him physical immortality, but he is still a human. I, however, am not. I was born a god. I cannot be defeated.”
“I’m not sure I understand,” you admit.
“It’s a bit tricky to explain, but,” he hesitates, taking a moment to study you, “why don’t you come and meet me at midnight? Wait for me over there, near that sandstone bench. If you come, I will explain everything.”
You can tell by his eyes that he’s telling you the truth, but that’s not all you can see in them. There’s also something inhuman. You don’t notice any weakness, pain or fear. There’s only great certainty and unusual peace that’s usually associated with the gods. Perhaps he really is a god. If you come tonight, you might learn the truth. If? As if you were really uncertain. You’re definitely coming tonight!

All Too Well
Spencer must go to him and Y/N’s once shared apartment to clean out his things and leave her life forever. While there he can’t help but look back on his actions, the ones that made him lose the love of his life forever
Tumblr media
A/N: Hi!! This is my first fanfic ever published on here and I’m excited to share it with you all! It’s inspired by one of my favorite Taylor Swift songs All Too Well, but although I utilized some of the lyrical genius and imagery from it, the story is not the same as the story in the song. This is a very angsty fic, and there is not a happy ending. Although there are some cute fluffy elements, including a Reid’s purple scarf origin story, I would in no way call this happy. Additionally, because of a reason you may later realize, the content warnings are very vague. If anything even slightly mentioned in them may affect you, I advise you to maybe stay clear. On a lighter note, if anyone wants to request anything, whether it’s another song inspired fic or a general plot line you would like to see please do so!! Also sorry this is kinda short, I’m still learning but I’m really proud of this one :))
Pairing: Spencer Reid x Fem Reader
Type: Very Angsty, Not a Happy Ending, (Y/N and Spencer do not end up together)
Word Count: 2.4k
Content Warnings(try to ignore if you would prefer to stay surprised): slight cursing, discussions of death and gore, discussion of car crash
Things to Know: Italics and bold are flashback moments :) let me know what you think!
“But you keep my old scarf from that very first week 'Cause it reminds you of innocence And it smells like me You can't get rid of it 'Cause you remember it all too well”
Spencer was packing up his things, finally getting the chance to clear out and move from the apartment he and Y/N once shared.  Their relationship was rocky and unconventional but he loved her all the same. Even though he left her broken-hearted and destroyed his most cherished relationship. Even though Y/N’s parents now hated him because of what he did to her. Even though hope of repairing what they once had was long gone and there was nothing else he could do about it. Even though he had torn up the masterpiece they once had together. He still loved her so much.
But the magic was gone and so was she.
Now Spencer was left with memories, and since the apartment they lived in was hers instead of his, filed entirely under hers and her parents name. In his excessive knowledge and wisdom, Spencer Reid struggled to understand how the kitchen where Y/N told him she loved him for the first time as he lit the candle on the collapsing confetti cake he had attempted to bake for her birthday was in no way legally tied to him.
“Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to Y/N! Happy birthday to you!” Spencer sang as he lit the single pink birthday candle he found after rummaging through his desk drawers for longer than he cared to admit. He knew it was in there somewhere, but at the same time there was a whole lot in there.
As he looked at her face, eyes welling up with tears as she took in the sad, homemade excuse for a birthday party Spencer had thrown together after they got back from a case hours before, he couldn’t help but feel he should have done more. He wanted to take her to New York, where they would’ve enjoyed fine dining and one of those incredibly detailed floral frosting cakes he knew Y/N was infatuated with.
However, the case in Oregon ran long. They had only returned to their apartment 2 hours ago, hours past their 7pm dinner reservations. Although Y/N tried to hide her disappointment, you don’t need to be a profiler to know that someone wants to celebrate their own birthday. So although they had agreed to go to bed and play everything by ear tomorrow, the young genius had, what he would still argue to be, his most brilliant idea when he saw Y/N asleep once he got out of the shower.
It was still her birthday.
And Spencer had just under 2 hours to throw you a party.
So sure, Y/N deserved more than a cake that was definitely not cool enough to frost, but was frosted anyway due to time constraints. And she definitely deserved more than present hastily wrapped in his printed out articles and newspaper clippings. Spencer wished that he had time to go buy new candles, instead of lighting a green sparkly number 7 because it was all he could find.
But it was almost midnight, and that meant he only had 18 minutes before it wasn’t Y/N’s birthday anymore.
So instead of dwelling on it, he headed to their bedroom, shook her awake and watched her roll over to face him. He watched the smile overtake her face as she said the stupid party hat he was wearing, made out of a pom pom and a wedding invitation.
“Hey birthday girl,” he said softly, “you do realize you’re sleeping through your party right?”
She looked so happy that night, even as she saw the way too messy kitchen and her birthday cake that was melting by the second. She laughed as Spencer fumbled with the lighter.
And as he finished singing her eyes started releasing tears.
“I’m sorry sweetheart, I wish we could’ve done more for the first birthday we get to spend together. “
“No, no, no” she said as she wiped her tears away, “It’s not that at all.”
She smiled and looked up at him “I just love you so goddamn much Spencer.”
Although at one point, all Spencer knew was logic and logically Y/N had never ever known him when she filed her paperwork, the genius still struggled to grasp the concept. That even before the ending of it all, you had no legal, definite connection to her at all.
How was nothing about this place, his?
  All that he knew was that he had today to pack all his shit and leave. All he knew is that Y/N’s father had made it very clear none of their family wanted to see him again.
He wished he could talk to Y/N about it. However all of his calls went to voicemail immediately.
Logically, Spencer knew why, he had completely fucked up.
But still, he called every single day, as there was nothing his heart wished for more than to speak to Y/N again. To apologize, to beg for forgiveness he knew he didn’t deserve.
As the cold air from the open windows blew into the apartment, Spencer couldn’t help but feel he was leaving his home behind. Everything left of her was going to be here, and he wouldn’t get to experience any part of the life you and him had once shared together anymore.
But then he saw it.
The royal purple scarf Y/N bought the day of their first date.
“You like this color right?” she asked as they stopped by a booth at the street festival she had taken him to. Spencer was too distracted as he watched the other couples on dates, as they walked hand and hand down the streets. He sometimes wished he could forget things like the number of germs and bacteria that lived on her hands. He at least wished he could forget long enough to gather enough courage to hold Y/N’s hand as they walked down the sidewalk.
“Hmm?” he said, looking back at her, then the scarf she was now wearing. “Oh, yeah! I love that color, it um- looks great on you.”
She smiled, then turned to the weird old guy running the stand. “How much for the scarf?” she asked.
He looked at her, then looked at Spencer, “depends which one of you is paying.”
Before Spencer could say anything, let alone pull out his wallet, Y/N already had hers out.
“Well, for a pretty lady like you, it’s 2 dollars,” the man said.
She handed him five and turned to Spencer. “You hear that? I’m so pretty I get 80% off! Wonder what you would’ve paid huh pretty boy? He would probably owe you money.” The man handed her her change and whispered something Spence couldn’t quite catch.
“Gross,” Y/N said as they exited the booth, “he wrote his number on my change.”
Spencer chuckled, “Did you really just buy that scarf because I like the color of it?”
She smiled, “Don’t get so cocky now Einstein, I like purple too you know? And maybe if you’re lucky I’ll let you borrow it.”
At that moment Spencer felt just okay enough to wrap his arm around Y/N’s, and she felt just right enough to wrap the new scarf around them both.
The one she left next to her front door, after making the last minute decision to leave it at home the night of their final outing.
No one would notice if he….. Right?
Sure maybe Y/N would but what would she do about it? Hunt him down just to get a scarf she paid less than five dollars for? Definitely not.
He wrapped it around his neck and closed his eyes, even days later he could perfectly picture Y/N singing in his car, fascinated by the autumn leaves falling around her. He felt the wind in his hair, but instead of the cold, dreary air from the open apartment window, he swore he could remember the warm air from that October night.
“Spencer I know you hate it but please, please, please. I’m so tired.”
“Sweetheart you’re not tired, you’re drunk. Of course I have to drive you home.”
“Oh, whatever.”
A phone call broke him away from his memories, it was Hotch. Spencer was angry, how effortlessly cruel of him to call him during such an emotional time. Hotch knew how much Spencer loved Y/N, the whole team did.
So he didn’t pick up.
Instead he walked over to the coffee table they used to put their feet on when they binged watched Doctor Who together. Letting the ringtone play out in the background, Spencer picked up an old photo album Y/N’s parents must have brought out. Of course he remembered it, it was the same one they flipped through when he met Y/N’s parents for the first time. He didn’t realize she had brought it home with her.
His eyes welled up with tears as he flipped through the old school pictures, remembering how embarrassed Y/N was of her big glasses. He saw her old athlete pictures from when she used to play tee ball, and flipped through more pictures until he reached the end of your softball career, in college.
He remembered how hard Y/N blushed when she showed him her childhood bedroom. Her twin sized bed was full of stuffed animals and her walls covered in boy band posters.
“You know what Spencer? I don’t want to hear it. I loved and still love the BackStreet Boys and I am not ashamed of that.”
He laughed, “You know, before we started dating I always thought you were so cool and unattainable. I imagined that you had always been this chic, beautifully brilliant badass. It’s oddly comforting to know that you wore tortoiseshell glasses and had a fruitless infatuation with Nick Carter.”
She gasped, before tossing her tabby cat stuffed toy at him, “You’re about to get it!”
Once again he was called out of the memory by his phone.
And once again he let it ring.
Spencer went into their shared bedroom, most of his things were already put into boxes for him. Honestly he was surprised that they hadn’t been set on fire or thrown away after what he did.
Soon it was time for him to take his things down to his car.
Except it wasn’t even his car. It was Morgan’s.
“Spencer, you are the most gorgeous man I have ever seen in my entire life. I am infatuated with you, I want us to spend the rest of our lives together.”
“You sure that isn’t the alcohol talking Y/N”
“Look at me Spencer, no, no really look at me.”
He couldn’t imagine ever using his old car again after what had happened in it.
“You are my future.”
Not that he could use it again.
“You are my everything.”
It was pretty much destroyed, after that accident on that little town street.
“I want nothing more in my life, than for you to be in it.”
When he was so enamored by Y/N, so in love that he couldn’t take his eyes off her, that he ran a red light.
And the truck waiting to go didn’t stop either.
“SPENCER! SPENCER CAN YOU HEAR ME? I NEED YOU TO CALL 911!” she screamed, her voice filled with agony, her limbs mangled in a sea of crushed mental and snapped backwards by the emergency airbag she didn’t realize she was resting her feet on.
Spencer had already called 911. That was the sickest thing about it. Spencer was, physically, perfectly fine. Spencer would get to leave the hospital after just a few days. Spencer could’ve probably gotten out of the car if he tried to. But he stayed, he stayed with Y/N, as she wasn’t fine. As Spencer looked down on her broken body, and tried desperately to find just one piece of skin that wasn’t coated in blood, her blood, that is when he realized. That not only could Y/N not walk out of the hospital with him, but she probably wouldn’t even make it there.
So he sobbed, he struggled to breathe, not because of the ways Y/N did, but because he had caused all the reasons she couldn’t.
“Hey, Spencer, look at me.”
So he did, and he reached for her hands and held them so tightly, and wanted one last time to feel her squeeze back. And she did, just ever so softly.
“Spencer, I meant everything I said to you. I want you to spend the rest of my life with me. Please.”
“I love you so much Y/N”
“I love you too.”
Spencer was drawn away from his memories once again as he got another phone call.
But it wasn’t Hotch this time. It was Mr. Y/L/N, so he answered it. He owed him that.
“Are you out of her house yet? You’ve had hours. I want you gone Spencer.”
Spencer sighed, “I’m leaving now sir, I’m just putting the last of my things in the trunk and then I’ll be gone.”
“Good, I never want to see you again Spencer, you hear me?” Mr. Y/L/N said. “And you better not have anything of hers either. All that stuff in your car better belong to you and you only. If Y/N paid for even a dime of it it better still be in that house.”
Spencer looked down at this scarf he was wearing, the one that still smelled like her perfume. The one that he couldn’t bring himself to take off because he reminded him of so much innocence and beauty.
“Yes sir, I didn’t take anything.”
“Good. And Spencer do me a favor.”
“Anything sir.”
“Go fuck yourself.” Mr. Y/L/N said, and then hung up. Spencer sighed, he expected that and fully deserved it.
How else should a father react when you kill his daughter?
“'Cause there we are again when I loved you so Back before you lost the one real thing you've ever known It was rare, I was there, I remember it all too well”

Surprise Animal Trivia [USWNT x Reader]
Tumblr media
requested by anon: I don't know if requests are still open but if they are can you do one where the reader just doesn't really talk a lot but they find out one way to have a conversation is to talk about animals since she loves them. Sorry if it doesn't make sense
A/N: this was super fun to write, and i actually learned some things about dolphins and discovered what an okapi is, so thanks for this request!
“Hey, kiddo! It’s good to see you again.” Kelley smirks, as she wraps her arm around your shoulder, ruffling your hair.
“You saw me two days ago.” You deadpan, rolling your eyes at your club teammate. At only 18 years old, you had been on the national team for the past two years. You were a naturally quiet, timid person, but you became even more shy when at camps, not only because you were surrounded by many of your role models but also because you were scared to mess up as the youngest on the team.
“You ready for camp?” She asks, as the two of you make your way to the team meeting.
You only nod in response. Kelley chuckles, opening the door for you.
Upon entering, you receive many cheers and greetings.
“It’s my favorite youngster!” Ashlyn calls out.
“(Y/N), come sit by me.” Pinoe waves you over.
“(Y/N/N)!” Sonny shouts.
You sheepishly duck your head and make your way to the front of the room. Although you were one of the best midfielders in the country, you always took team meetings and film sessions very seriously because you wanted to prove to the coaches that you deserved to be here.
As the meeting starts, you listen intently and keep to yourself, whereas a couple of your teammates were whispering and cracking a couple of jokes.
“Alright, well I’m excited to get started.” Vlatko claps his hands together. “I’ll see you all out on the pitch.”
—————
On the field, you were a completely different animal. Although you weren’t the most vocal or the most celebratory, you tore up the field, scoring goals and making your own teammates look like fools.
“Damn, kid. You did not come to play.” Kelley huffs, after you beat her and slot the ball in the lower corner past Ashlyn.
You look down, a small smirk on your face, as Vlatko blows the whistle, ending training for the day.
“Thank goodness you were on my team today.” Alex smiles.
“Jeez, (Y/N), you couldn’t take it a little easier on me.” Ash teases, pulling her gloves off.
“Uh, thanks guys.” You mumble, rubbing the back of your neck.
“(Y/N/N)! You were incredible! You’re definitely gonna play this weekend.” Mal jumps on your back, kissing your cheek.
“Thanks, Mal.” You blush.
“Alright you two, let’s get going.” Christen laughs, moving you along towards the bus.
You slide into your window seat, Kelley following right after you. As your scrolling through your phone, you can feel the defender staring at you with a large grin across her face.
“What?” You turn to look at the other woman.
“What’s going on with you and Mal?” Kelley smirks.
“Nothing!” You exclaim.
“You sure? Not even a little crush.”
“I’m sure.” You insist, your cheeks flushing.
“Mkay.” The freckled woman hums and turns across the aisle to talk to Alex and Allie.
You put your headphones on, contently listening to music for the rest of the bus ride.
—————
The team had decided to go out to dinner in downtown LA that evening, Christen and Alex knowing the best restaurants in the city. On the way there, you stuck with the youngsters not really saying much. Noticing your quietness, Mal drifts over to you.
“Hey.” She wraps her arm around your waist. “How are you doing?”
“Good.” You lean your head on her shoulder.
Mal furrows her eyebrows at your short response. “Are you nervous?” She asks, genuinely curious.
“Mhm. I’m just a little shy.”
Mal softens at your confession. “You’re cute.” She cheekily grins.
You blush, giving her a small smile. “Thanks.”
Mal nods, beaming, before she returns to the crazy story Emily was telling.
—————
As the team waits for their food, the table is filled with boisterous and energetic conversation.
“(Y/N)!” Ashlyn call from across the table. “Did Kelley really beat both Becky and Chris in Monopoly?”
“Huh?” You tilt your head, confused by the randomness of the question.
“We’re trying to settle a debate here. So did she?” Megan explains.
“No.” You bluntly confirm, resulting in a burst of laughters and howls from the veteran side of the table.
“So, (Y/N), how are you settling in with the Royals?” Tobin asks.
“I like Utah.” You nod.
The older forward chuckles. “You still a little shy?”
You bashfully shake your head.
“Tobes, you know (Y/N). She’s our shy little baby.” Kelley coos, pinching your cheek.
“Stop, Kel.” You mumble, swatting her hand away.
Once the food arrives, you immediately dig in. The team continues exchanging stories and cracking jokes, all while shoving food into their mouths. After the meal, as you’re all waiting for the check, Kelley pulls out her phone.
“Janice, did you see this post?” She shows the forward a photo of a dolphin with their nose against a pregnant woman’s stomach.
“Ha! Al, you should’ve done that.” Allie snorts.
“What is that even for?” Alex rolls her eyes at her best friends.
“The dolphin can detect the baby inside her stomach because of their echolocation. It basically acts like an ultrasound.” You explain, overhearing their conversation.
Everyone stops and turns to stare at you, surprised that you’d spoken more than a couple of words.
“How do you know that?” Megan asks.
“Uhh.” You shrink under the gaze of your teammates. “I just know a lot animals. Like did you know that dolphins don’t even chew their food? Or that they have two stomachs? Or that they only sleep with half of their brain?” You vibrate with excited energy.
The rest of the women smile at you, amused by your mini rant.
“I didn’t know you liked animals so much.” Mal pipes from next to you.
“Yeah. I mean, obviously, there are so many different kinds of animals, so there’s just so much to learn.”
“So what’s your favorite animal?” Christen asks.
“Hmm.” You purse your lips, considering your options. “Probably the Okapi.”
“What the hell is an Okapi?” Emily calls out.
“It’s the only living relative to the giraffe, but it looks like a cross between a deer and a zebra.” You elaborate, as you search up a picture to show the table.
“Aw, it’s kinda cute.” Rose coos.
You nod in agreement. “What’s really cool is that they have scene glands on the bottom of their hooves to mark its territory!” You wave your hands enthusiastically.
“Ha, I guess we should just bring up animals if we wanna hear you talk.” Kelley teases.
“Uh, I guess. I mean I could go on about animals.” You scratch the back of your neck and chuckle nervously. “And I’m sorry I don’t really talk a lot. I’m just really shy and wanna impress you guys.” You mumble out a confession, looking down at your fidgeting hands.
“Kid, you impress us all the time.” Tobin assures.
“Seriously, (Y/N). You’re one of the best midfielders in the world right now, AND you’re not even twenty years old yet!” Alex exclaims.
The rest of the woman add their own comments, boosting your confidence
Mal smiles softly and takes your hand into hers, giving you a comforting squeeze. “You are an amazing person and player, (Y/N), and we love you just the way you are, so if you don’t like talking a lot, we’ll still love you.”
You feel your cheeks redden and your heart burst. “Thanks you guys. I really do see you guys as a second family, having practically grown up with all of you.”
“AWWWWW! We see you as family too!” Kelley cries, placing a wet kiss onto your cheek.
“OK, that’s enough, Kel.” You scrunch your nose, playfully wiping your cheek.
“But you’re my little kiddo, and I’m your team mom.” The defender pouts.
“Hey! I thought I was her team mom.” Christen interjects.
“Both of you are my team moms.” You roll your eyes at the two women. “And Becky.” You look at the blonde woman, acknowledging her with a small smile. Beck nods, a silent thank you.
“(Y/N/N), you ever been to the LA Zoo?” Alex asks.
You shake your head. “I’ve actually never been to a zoo before.”
Many of the women’s jaws drop, especially since you’d just revealed your immense love for animals.
“You’ve never been to a zoo?” Ali blurts.
“No.” You murmur. “My parents were always working when I was growing up, so we never really did any of that kind of stuff.”
“Well, we have the day off tomorrow.” Alex sings. “Wanna go?”
“Yes!” An earsplitting grin breaks out across your face, as you nod eagerly. “Can the whole team come?” You sheepishly request.
“Duh!” Kelley responds, causing you to smile and the rest of the table to cheer.
You can’t help but shake with excitement, bouncing in your seat. You were looking forward to the trip to the zoo tomorrow and couldn’t wait not only to learn about the animals you were so passionate about but also spend time with the women you loved so much.

4.8 | Boys’ Night Out
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (2018)
🌸🌸🌸
Ooooh now this is the clunky, awkward, baffling She-Ra content this season has been sorely missing!
Have I mentioned how much I’m not interested in Sea Hawk? I literally never have because he isn’t important. But I liked his first episode! Maybe it’s because in that story he was the adventure the girls were on, navigating a harmless funny egomaniac to get what they want. But he’s never been connected to the story since, and he never feels grounded in the stakes.
What I really liked from him in this episode was his elaborate poses and song sequences. He has such a great macho-fae flamboyant energy.
I love when Bow gets frustrated about being the only one working on their friendships! That was such a great reveal of depth, the way he’s super positive and reasonable the whole time but he’s like ‘Yeah, I do that on purpose, but I have feelings too!’ I also loved how he was really dejected until Sea Hawk managed to get him singing an enthusiastic shanty and he was like ‘Yeah okay I love this.’ I did think his characterization overall was more messy and hard to follow than I made it sound though.
The song about being friends had such a surprising return to kindergarten vibes, and I would love for the show to play more with that but right here it feels pretty out-of-nowhere. There was the makings of an idea I really liked where this could be a very nostalgic, childish episode about the value of friendship, which breaks into sudden depth in the third act where Bow reveals his very adult feelings about how hard it is to be the only one trying to do the work. Such a clever, interesting bridge between the show’s cartoonish sincerity and the harsher emotional themes.
Swift Wind didn’t get to do anything lmao. It could have just been a Sea Hawk and Bow mission, that might have had a little more resonance since they had such a senpai kohai thing in the early episode. It’s funny that Bow seems completely over his crush on Sea Hawk and he’s basically as tired of his bullshit as all the princesses and I am.
Aaaaaughgjffjfhh Glimmer and Adora are talking past each other! It feels so forced! Maybe I would like it more if I understood why they got so ready to kick each other to the curb. It’s hard to believe! I’m really trying to figure out if there’s a way to enjoy it and I’ll come back in like a year and be like “Oh this is awesome actually! The tension!!” There’s definitely a really fun concept here for these extremely self-righteous hero friends, who usually feel like a badass team and pride themselves on their kindness and closeness but really have a lot of personal issues, to kinda have one bad day and end up turning all their most bitter, uncontrolled feelings on each other, and have no idea how to get out of their own heads before they start to hate each other. There’s so much painful emotional waste to splash around in, like the Horde arcs. This show is about knifes and the twisting thereof! But yeah it’s not really hitting for me.
Oh I liked seeing the pretty Salineas village! That immediately made the threat from last episode more impactful. I love the squid people!! I love that the Flutterina people were moths too! There's a lot of neat furry species in the civilian towns that we see, and it also really makes it stand out how this show has the classic fantasy thing of nonhumans are only on the evil side. The Rebellion has no furries! The Horde has many!
Seeing Mermista in her little depression bath right after seeing the refugee evacuation was so funny, it’s the first time any of the princesses have seemed like despicable spoiled royals.
Octavia was here for basically the first time! I love the hot octolady! Also it isn’t brought up at all but it’s cool to think of what it’s like for her to burn down presumably her homeland.
I love that she lost her eye to a child and she was like ‘Yeah I’ll reclaim this. I’ll tell it to the enemy like it’s cool and just shows how badass our leader is’
It’s so wild to see Hordak ‘in the field’! He was always so cool as a secluded menace but now he’s so cool on the battlefield and the good guys get to see it! Could he have done this at any time? What a legend.
Catra is starting to chill out! We see her give orders in a calm, reasonable way. I love that she’s settling into her position. I LOVE that she talks to Scorpia’s phone for minutes without noticing that she hasn’t heard anything back. I love that it takes her this entire episode to realize Scorpia’s gone. That little understated arc has gotta be the best written part of this.
Omg Mermista’s rock remix???? God I love musical numbers so much. I had to stop myself from giving the episode an extra star for it. I want there to be a proper musical episode SO BAD.
Next time: Time is like a bagel…

The Royal Chest
Pairing - Kwon Eunbi x Male Reader
Words - 4159
Sins - Smut, oral, titjob, breast smothering, face-sitting
It’s been a while, but I’m back! This is actually a sequel to A Gift from a Princess (featuring April’s Naeun)! I’ll leave the small talk for another post, but I do have to say that there is a bit of medieval dirty talk that I researched and then used that really ends up maybe feeling a bit more funny than sexy, but I left it in anyway because it amused me, but I hope it doesn’t throw people off. Otherwise, enjoy!
Tumblr media
Snowgleam. It’s a beautiful city. A mountaintop city visible from far off if the weather was clear. Spires of polished white marble gleam in the bright sunlight, as you breathe in the cold mountain air, surrounded by snow. The city more than deserves its name.
The journey to Snowgleam took about six days through the treacherous snow-covered mountain passes, and thankfully, you encountered nothing that might have explained why travellers have been disappearing. Perhaps whatever the cause was, it was dissuaded by the sizeable armed escort that guarded the delegation to Snowgleam.
That escort included you, who normally served as personal bodyguard to Princess Lee Naeun as a knight of the court and a member of the Royal Guard. She has entrusted you with a letter to be delivered to a good friend of hers who lives in Snowgleam, Princess Kwon Eunbi, a princess of the neighbouring kingdom.
Princess Kwon Eunbi of Snowgleam is the only child in her family and is being groomed to eventually become queen. Strong of heart, body and mind, and a ravishing beauty, she has many suitors, not unlike Princess Naeun. You’ve met her before, as she’s visited Princess Naeun in the past.
You remember long black hair, thick red lips, a long and sharp nose, large piercing eyes of grey and skin that was fair and smooth. Most of all, you remember her figure, strong arms, powerful thighs and calves, a slender waist, and an exceptionally large chest.
You walk through smooth stone roads that wind toward the largest building in Snowgleam, the Zenith Spires. A collection of turrets and spires that go higher than any of the others in the city, made of white stone. The destination of your delegation and the home of Princess Eunbi and the rest of her family.
As your delegation arrives safely, you leave the diplomats to go about their business as servants help with your belongings and usher those of you not needed towards a set of rooms reserved for guests. You spend some time stripping off your armour and changing into a fresh set of clothing, a pairing of a silken shirt and pants, before picking up the scroll case containing Princess Naeun’s letter and going to find Princess Eunbi.
You know your way around as you’ve been to the Zenith Spires before a couple times, accompanying Princess Naeun on visits here. After asking a couple of guards, you find out that Princess Eunbi is in her chambers, so you make your way there with letter in hand.
A large door of heavy wood serves as the entrance to her quarters. You pick up the large brass knocker and bring it down upon the wood three times.
“Come in.”
You push the heavy door open and enter, whereupon it slowly shuts by itself behind you. The chamber before you is a dark contrast to most of Snowgleam, with walls of black and a large four-four poster bed of dark red. Large closed glass windows that provide natural illumination to the chamber, sunlight currently shining through them. There is a glass door to the side that leads to a balcony that commands an impressive view over the city and the mountain. Most of the furniture is made of dark wood, all dark brown or black. A velvety carpet of blood red muffles your footsteps somewhat as you take a few steps forward and bow to the princess, sitting on the edge of her bed.
Princess Eunbi wears a resplendent sleeveless golden dress that hugs her figure, with a long slit at the bottom that reveals her smooth and strong legs. The dress reveals a bit of cleavage, just enough to show it off, but not enough to make one feel scandalised in the royal court. Pearls and diamonds adorn her earrings. She currently isn’t wearing any footwear and a tall tiara of diamonds and white crystal rests upon her head.
Eunbi looks up at you, and you bow deeply before her. You try to keep your eyes away from her cleavage when bowing, given that you’re taller and she’s also sitting down.
“Ah, you’re Naeun’s bodyguard, are you not? I believe we last met when I visited her this spring. The delegation must have arrived safely then.”
“Greetings, Princess Eunbi. You are correct, my lady. I bring a letter from Princess Naeun to you.”
“Bring it forth then.”
Rising from your bow, you step forward and proffer the scroll case containing the letter to the princess. Eunbi plucks it from your hands and opens it up, pulling out the parchment within to read the letter immediately.
You wait patiently as the letter is read, standing by in case there is a message or letter that you need to convey back to Princess Naeun. You watch her smile and chuckle to herself as she reads.
Eventually, she rolls the paper back up and getting up to her feet, keeps the letter in a drawer in a side table. Eunbi then looks up at you, a mysterious smile upon her lips.
“Thank you for waiting. Did Naeun tell you what she wrote about in her letter?”
“No, my lady. The princess did not.” Eunbi’s smile widens.
Eunbi walks over back to you, stopping right in front of you. “Well, Naeun wrote to me about her experience having a secret tryst with a bodyguard of hers.” Eunbi stares pointedly at you. “And she also requests of me to partake of this bodyguard, and to send her my informed opinion on the worth and value of his performance and prowess.”
You try not to give away anything on your face, although you are incredibly surprised to hear the contents of the letter. “And she also mentioned that you are the aforementioned bodyguard.” Eunbi adds.
Well, no denying it now then.
“That is true, my lady, although I did not expect for the princess to write to you about that.”
“Naeun and I are close…in the same way that Naeun and her handmaiden Chaekyung are close. When we visit each other…we also take some time to explore each other’s bodies.” Eunbi tales a step toward you at this point, looking up at you and resting a hand on your chest.
“Now, about Naeun’s request. I’m quite happy to fulfil it, but seeing as you were given no instructions or orders in this regard and I don’t want to be an inhospitable host in my home, I would ask if you would be willing to join me in fulfilling her request?”
You are here to deliver a letter and are definitely not expecting to be asked to sleep with the princess of Snowgleam while the rest of your cohorts are off discussing diplomatic matters with Snowgleam’s king and his court.
That said, Princess Eunbi is a beautiful and comely woman. And this is apparently the will of your princess too. “It would be a most humbling honour, Princess Eunbi.”
Eunbi’s gaze changes and she licks her lips seductively. “Oh, I’m sure it is. Not just any man can sleep with the future queen of Snowgleam. No one should hear us as long as we don’t start screaming. The walls of my chamber are quite thick and I don’t have guards outside. Oh, I do have one more condition. You don’t tell anyone of this, just as you’ve presumably not told anyone of your own encounter with Naeun.”
You bow your head slightly. “You have my word, Princess Eunbi.”
Eunbi presses her body up against yours, her chest pushing against yours while a hand reaches up and grabs your head. You feel blood start to rush down below.
“I don’t just want your word. I want your lips.”
With her hand on the back of your head, Eunbi pulls you down into a kiss, her tongue forcing its way quickly into your mouth. You decide to reciprocate and kiss her passionately as well, your tongue entwining and wrestling with hers.
Eunbi’s hand on your chest slides down the silken shirt you wear and settles over the bulge forming in your pants, slowly rubbing against it. You slide one hand down to the slit in her dress, rubbing her thigh at first before inching inward and slipping inside her dress. The other hand wraps around Eunbi’s waist, bringing her in closer to you.
Your hand in her dress seeks out her core, and you feel it dripping; she wears no underwear under her dress. As the two of you push back and forth against each other with your tongues, you start to run a finger along her lower lips, collecting everything that is dripping out and moistening your finger.
Eunbi shivers against you, and not to be outdone, has your belt undone in seconds, sending your pants and belt both tumbling onto the floor. Her warm fingers wrap around your throbbing shaft, slowly stroking it. You retaliate, slowly sliding your finger inside of her. The two of you both moan into each other’s mouths as you slowly make out like this.
Eunbi eventually breaks the kiss for breath. “Not bad at all.” She grins at you playfully. “You see, my people are born and raised on a mountain city. The air is thinner here and we develop a lot of stamina as a result of needing to compensate for less air. Which explains why the thing I prize most of all when with a man, is stamina. Let’s test you out, see how long you last so I can give my opinion to Naeun.”
The princess gestures to her bed. “Sit.”
You remove your hand from inside Eunbi’s dress before turning, stepping out of your clothing, and obediently taking a seat at the edge of her bed. By the time you sit down and face her again, Eunbi’s dress is already on the floor and she casually kicks it aside. Her tiara is unceremoniously pulled from her hair and thrown onto the bed, against the pillows.
You look upon Eunbi’s naked body, slender but powerful muscles in her arms and legs, and also slim around the waist and heavy around the chest. Eunbi’s abdomen is very toned. She is as fit and strong as any knight you know, and you’re not surprised. In addition to being a princess, she also is a captain in the Snowgleam military. Your hardened dick throbs for her.
“Princess Eunbi-”
“Just Eunbi, you don’t need to address me by Princess if you’re naked with me. It feels odd.”
“Eunbi, I was going to say that from the way you kiss, it’s clear that I’m not the first man you’ve been naked with?”
Eunbi chuckles as she gets on her knees in front of you. “Naeun isn’t the only one who’s had secret trysts with bodyguards. Well, mine aren’t always with bodyguards, but you get the gist of it.”
You watch as Eunbi wraps a hand around the base of your shaft and starts to stroke. “Now, let’s partake of you, and see how you taste.” Her large grey eyes stare into yours as her pink tongue flicks over the tip of your cock, licking up the pre-cum that has formed there.
“Mmm…this looks so good. I want to bagpipe you.”
You groan softly in appreciation at the feeling of her wet and warm tongue first sliding along the slit of your penis and then an encompassing feeling of wet warmth surrounds your cock as she takes the tip of it into her mouth and starts to suck on it.
Her head starts to bob up and down on your cock and unlike Naeun, Eunbi is a lot more experienced with men. You soon feel the effects of that as she deftly takes your length deep into her throat with ease. No gagging and choking, just the tightness of her throat as she swallows around your length while her large eyes peer up at you.
You notice that Eunbi has a hand down below, fingering herself and moaning and whimpering pleasurably into your cock even as she sucks on you. A little hesitantly, you place a hand on Eunbi’s head and pull ever so gently upward on her hair, urging her to come up for air. It’s your turn to give her some attention; and you really don’t want to shoot your load so soon, with how hot and tight her blowjob is.
“Let me bring pleasure to you.”
Eunbi nods and licks your tip one final time. “I could never say no to a request like that.”
You grab Eunbi by the shoulders and help her up, before having her lie on the bed next to you. You clamber up on top of her and direct your attention to her lovely breasts, roughly squeezing one large, firm breast and sucking on the sensitive stiffened nipple of the other. Eunbi whimpers and mewls, her nails digging into your shoulder and the back of your head.
“More…” She pants as her hand on the back of your head pushes strongly down, pressing your face into her chest. The perfumed scent of her body mixed with the taste of light fresh sweat on her tits is a heady mix.
Eunbi suddenly grabs tightly onto you, her fingers digging into your skin and her legs clenching against your sides, and then she rolls you underneath her. Eunbi’s breasts completely fill your vision and senses as your face is engulfed and pressed beneath her boobs. They are soft, firm, and fair, just the way you like them. Eunbi puts the considerable weight of her chest fully onto you, smothering you with them. Her strong arms push down on your chest, preventing you from rising.
Your face is fully buried in Eunbi’s large and soft tits, and all you see is warm flesh. Eunbi’s soft moaning encourages you to keep licking and kissing between her cleavage, even though your breathing is somewhat restricted.
You manage to bring one hand up to Eunbi’s face and you slip a couple of fingers into her warm mouth, where she licks and sucks on them with gusto. Once you deem them wet enough, you retract them and use them to tease her lower lips, with your fingers slowly stroking around the outside of her pussy, just on the edge.
Your other hand continues to play with her nipples, squeezing and fondling the breasts that have trapped your face, drawing noises of satisfaction from Eunbi.
You lick her chest and tweak her nipples as her hips buck downward, eager for more of your touch. You oblige, sending your wet fingers sliding inside her, making her writhe above you. And then you stop, drawing a whine from the princess. As comfortable as this position is for you, it doesn’t let you pleasure her the best.
“I love your breasts, but let’s change positions.” Your voice comes out muffled from under Eunbi’s breasts.
There is a slight pause. “Okay, fine.” And Eunbi lifts her chest off your face, only to quickly scoot her hips forward and plant her slit right on top of your mouth. Her strong, creamy, thighs lock around your head and her hips grinding down on you.
You were hoping for a position easier to breathe in but taking in the scent of her royal pussy isn’t a bad alternative. Your tongue slips inside Eunbi’s folds and she grabs your head with a hand and pushes her hips down hard. Her hips gyrate as you fuck her with your tongue, tasting her delicious juices spilling into your mouth.
“Taste me…” Eunbi whines breathlessly. You look up at her beautiful face even as you lick and suck on her pussy; eyes closed, lower lip being bitten, cheeks flush, and the expression of pleasurable agony on her face all help to keep you rock hard throughout this.
Your hands reach up and squeeze her ample ass, pulling her grinding hips closer, pushing your tongue deeper into her. Eunbi’s breathing becomes heavy and ragged, and you only hear panting, gasping and soft groans passing from her lips.
While still underneath Eunbi, your hands shift, moving from her ass to hold onto her powerful thighs and then grabbing tightly, you flip her onto the bed, changing positions again. This time, you get to use your hands to assist your mouth. With Eunbi lying beneath you, you attack her swollen clit with your tongue, licking and sucking roughly, while you pump into her pussy with several fingers. Eunbi’s thighs still haven’t lost their grip on your head; she’s a strong woman. Instead, Eunbi wraps her legs around your head, her calves locking in around the back of your head. Your head is happily trapped around the vice-like grip of Eunbi’s legs.
“Yes…yes...yes…” Eunbi quietly repeats the word over and over as your fingers quest and coil and thrust inside her and your mouth is locked in a French kiss with her clit. The grip Eunbi has on your head tightens somehow, almost painful as her body quivers, and then she climaxes hard in a silent scream, pushing her hips furiously against your head, grinding and gyrating until she lies relatively still.
You keep licking and slurping up the nectar that flows forth, causing Eunbi to whimper and shudder still. Eunbi’s legs finally relax their grip on you and she lets them fall to the side, releasing your head. Her hands then immediately take over and pull your head up to hers, her lips then catching yours in a deep kiss.
When your lips part, Eunbi purrs contentedly as she idly strokes your cock.
“I taste good. I did like your taste as well.”
Eunbi kisses you again for emphasis, and as her tongue explores your mouth, her hands grab your shoulders and the two of you reverse positions again. Eunbi moves to position herself above your cock that has been craving for more attention for a while now.
“Look at you, you’re still hard.”
“Whenever you need me to be.”
“I have to say, I’m starting to envy Naeun a little.” Eunbi then sinks down, taking your entire length inside her to the hilt. You slide in easily from how wet she is, but she’s also still very tight around your cock.
“So deep…” She exhales. You watch as Eunbi starts to ride you, her breasts bouncing along to the rhythm of her hips thrusting down on you.
“Need a hand?” Without waiting for a reply, you reach out with both hands and cup Eunbi’s beautiful breasts, squeezing them as she fucks herself upon you. Eunbi groans at first but then grins impishly. “I have a better idea.”
Without missing a beat, Eunbi reaches down and pulls you up into a sitting position before using one hand to grab your head and force it between her cleavage. You actually can’t really breathe at all this time as Eunbi smothers you with her breasts, but it turns you on so much as you start to thrust upward into Eunbi, matching her downward rhythm.
Eunbi lets you go after a short while to help you catch your breath, and you keep your head at the same level and start to frantically suck on the nipples in front of you, taking them in your mouth one at a time and devouring them. Eunbi whimpers in response; you know how sensitive her nipples are to her. One of your hands starts to rub her clit, increasing Eunbi’s pleasure.
“I’m going to-“ Eunbi doesn’t finish her sentence as she cries out loud and throws her head back while in orgasm, her hands grab your head and force your face into her tits again, enveloping you as she cums all over your cock. Between the contractions of her pussy muscles on your cock and the breast smothering, you feel yourself getting close too.
Eunbi only releases you when she has calmed down a little, pulling your mouth off her chest and pulling you into a passionate kiss. “I see you do have quite a bit of stamina.” Eunbi remarks when she finally gets off you, revealing your cock still hard and throbbing, totally drenched from Eunbi’s orgasm. “Let’s finish this up, shall we?
The princess pulls you over to the edge of the bed and kneels on the carpeted floor in front of you. Pushing her breasts together, Eunbi has them surround your cock, sandwiching them between two soft but firm orbs of flesh.
She starts to shift her heavy breasts up and down, forming a pleasurable friction and rhythm as she pumps your cock with only her boobs. Eunbi doesn’t need lubrication for this, given that your cock is covered in her juices from the orgasm she just had and thus still very wet.
“One talent that I discovered that I had after joining the military, was that I’m really particularly good at spear polishing. All of it. The tip, the shaft.” Eunbi teases as she licks her lips, her eyes locked onto yours.
“I can tell.” You manage to get out as your hips thrust into Eunbi’s breasts, unable to keep still. Eunbi lowers her head and starts to lick her juices off the tip of your cock.
“Mmm…give me your cream, spray it all over me. Treat me like a filthy common street whore.” You didn’t know that a princess and future queen could speak like that. Princess Naeun would never speak like that.
At Eunbi’s dirty urging, you increase the speed of your thrusting, eventually fucking Eunbi’s cleavage and mouth at the same time, as she wraps her lips around the head of your dick and sucks. The sound of slurping fills the air.
“Go on, you dirty harlot, take it all.” Your hands reach up somewhat hesitantly and hold her head through her hair and when you feel yourself hit the edge and go over, you pull her head back and off.
The first spray decorates her outstretched neck, the second shoots higher, splattering across her chin and lower jaw, the third forms droplets of white all over her chest. Eunbi continues to stroke you with her breasts throughout all of this. You feel one last spurt coming, and Eunbi brings her mouth down to swallow it all. You take advantage of this opportunity to thrust into her mouth a few times as you come down from your climax.
Eunbi thoroughly cleans your cock with her mouth, licking and sucking all over your sensitive length. A knock on the door interrupts her, a male voice comes calling, probably a guard or a courtier. “Princess Eunbi, your father requests your presence in the throne room whenever you are predisposed to come. He would like to speak with you regarding the diplomatic delegation that arrived earlier.”
She pulls her mouth off your cock to answer. “Tell Father that I’ll be there soon, you may leave first.”
“Yes, my lady.”
Eunbi turns back to you. “How many nights are you staying here for?”
“Two, weather permitting.”
“Good, that’s two more nights with you. A good first impression, but I need to sample you for longer to really give Naeun a detailed opinion.”
You chuckle. “I don’t mind.”
“Oh, and one more thing.”
“Yes?”
“Don’t ever call me a whore or a harlot outside of this room or I will order your execution.” Eunbi smiles and jokes as she walks over to a nearby standing metal washbasin to wash her face and neck. You admire Eunbi’s naked form again, watching her butt move from side to side as she walks, her back turned to you.
“I would never.” You get up from sitting on the bed, and walk over to where Eunbi stands, washing herself.
“I’m thinking of maybe going back with you, I haven’t visited Naeun in a while. Maybe the three of us can spend some time together.”
You wrap your arms around Eunbi’s waist and whisper suggestively into her ear as she wipes down her face with a towel. “That’s an excellent idea. Imagine the things we could do together, the three of us. The two of you and your wonderful royal chests sound like an excellent time.”
You dip your hands into the cold water in the washbasin and then bring both hands up to her chest, cupping her breasts from behind. “You have to wash these too.” You breathe heavily into Eunbi’s ear. Eunbi lets out a soft moan, her body shivering as you squeeze her breasts gently, and she feels your cock start to stiffen against her ass. You bring one hand down to gently rub against her pussy lips. “And down here too.”
As you kiss Eunbi on her ear and the nape of her neck, your cock rubbing against her pussy, she murmurs softly in pleasure. “I guess Father will have to wait for a little longer.”
The king of Snowgleam doesn’t see his daughter for another two hours. And you are looking forward to a busy two days (and nights).

Summary: Virgil is joined out on the curb by his new neighbor across the street.
______________________________
Ever since junior high, Virgil had made a habit of going out to the curb of his house around 1 in the morning and just sitting there. Save for rainy days and perhaps the odd time when he wasn’t at home, he’d always do it. It was nice and comforting. He usually had to put on a hoodie from the slight chill but he was content to sit out on the concrete, pajama pants and all, just looking up at the stars with his headphones on.
One night, things were going as normal until he noticed someone approaching the curb from the other side of the street, a person around his age. Virgil paused his music, possibly as a chance to eavesdrop. He heard the person let out a sigh as they sat down and Virgil cursed himself as their eyes met. The person smiled, goddammit. There went his evening plans for the end of all time, never going out again he concluded.
“Do you always brood out here in the dark?” the person asked, a teasing tone to their voice.
Virgil glared at them a little. The stranger laughed.
“A look that could kill indeed, you seem like you’re fun at parties.”
That went on for a bit as Virgil continued ignoring them or giving a glare or two as the person tried to get him to talk.
After half an hour, Virgil’s 1 AM companion got up and stretched.
“Well my emo nightmare, I must say that I have been thoroughly engrossed in our conversation but I must be off. A prince must get his beauty sleep~!” the stranger sang out a bit, starting to turn a bit.
“As if sleep could fix that,” Virgil huffed out with a smirk, only for it to grow wider as the guy across the street gave a dramatic gasp and whipped around.
“Excuse me?”
“You heard me, your bitchness,” Virgil replied back without a moment of hesitation.
“Well-! And here I thought this would be the start of a cliché and passionate romance!” was the guy’s reply.
“Don’t get your hair in a twist, Princey, I’m way outta your league,” Virgil hummed.
“Then fine, if that’s how you’re going to be!”
“Yep,” Virgil said, popping the p and clicking his tongue with a wink.
The guy’s cheeks flushed a bit. “Goddamn you,” he mumbled, turning to go inside for real.
_____
Virgil was expecting only that one encounter but the next night, his neighbor decided trying to stir up more conversation, out on the curb in the first 10 minutes Virgil was.
“Good evening, my dark and mysterious companion,” Virgil’s neighbor greeted, bowing mockingly. “And what do I owe this honor for us meeting once again?”
Virgil watched as the guy grinned rather boyishly and he rolled his eyes, trying to fight off a smile. “It’s not an honor, trust me. It wasn’t for you if you’re even considering that.”
“Well now, can’t you leave a man to his unrealistic dreams of summer romance?” came his neighbor’s response.
“As long as you know they’re unrealistic, ya royal pain in the ass. Virgil by the way,” he introduced.
“A beautiful name for a beautiful person such as yourself I see! Roman Prince, a pleasure to meet you,” the guy, Roman supposedly, said.
“Prince? Wow, that could not be more on the nose could it?” Virgil laughed to himself.
“Oh, and what? Is your last name all dark and broody like you?” Roman asked.
Virgil shook his head. “The opposite, Princey. Hart.”
“Virgil Hart.”
“Yep.”
Roman blinked for a moment. “You... are actually a kitten.”
“Whatever you say, dude,” Virgil said as he lied down on the concrete. “I don’t give a crap about your opinion of me.”
“I admire that,” Roman replied, smiling to Virgil. “Not a lot of people can really say that, you know.”
Virgil felt his cheeks heating up. “I mean, I care a little because like, anxiety, but other than that, it doesn’t really matter.”
Roman chuckled and Virgil looked over to see that he was the recipient of a rather adoring gaze.
“... What?”
“I admire the honesty even more.”
“Whatever, sap.”
_____
The third night in a row, Virgil didn’t hesitate to flip Roman off with a smirk, receiving an offended gasp from the guy taking a seat on the curb. Virgil couldn’t help but laugh as that part became their greeting.
It became a nice little routine. They talked for a while, things were going well and they got to know each other from the hour of time they shared outside.
_____
“So you come out every night?” Roman asked, yawning afterwards as he rubbed sleep out of his eyes to the best of his ability.
“Yeah, helps me clear my head,” Virgil told him.
“When did it start?”
“I had a panic attack one night, felt trapped in the house. So I decided to show myself I wasn’t and came out here. I’ve just been doing it ever since. Nothing special.”
Roman shrugged. “I think it’s cool that you were able to work with the anxiety rather than push it back.”
“When you’ve been dealing with it since you were a kid, you learn how to deal with it, you know?”
“No, unfortunately not.”
“Eh, that’s fair. Trust me, you’re not missing much.”
Roman laughed. “No, I imagine I’m not,” he replied, smiling to Virgil.
“Hey Princey, by the way, what’s up with you and romance?” Virgil asked, looking over to him.
Roman blinked, looking very thrown off by the timing of the question. Virgil tried not to smile at the reaction.
“What do you mean?” was the response Virgil was given.
“I mean like, you always talk about love and summer romance and flirt with me and all that kind of stuff, I was just wondering if there was a reason.”
Roman nodded. “Ah. Well,” he cleared his throat. “Just always loved the ideas of love I suppose. Grew up on Disney Princess movies, I just always was fascinated by the stories. And since most of them concern romance, it only makes sense. Plus my neighbor doesn’t hurt the idea.”
“Oh shut up,” Virgil laughed.
“What?” Roman feigned innocence.
“You can’t go a single night without flirting and you know it,” Virgil told him, quirking an eyebrow.
“Well with you, it’s certainly not difficult~”
_____
Roman brought someone out one night, something that was definitely not precedented.
The person in question looked exactly like Roman except for a slight mustache. Virgil guessed it was Roman’s twin that he’d mentioned a few times, go figures they’d look exactly alike. He wore a grey tank top and green cargo shorts, looking like he was just dragged out of bed. From the looks of it, he’d been crying.
Virgil watched on in silence as Roman sat the two of them down, leaning his twin’s head against his shoulder, his arm wrapped around the twin’s shoulder. Roman gave him a gentle squeeze and he leaned in closer to Roman’s hold.
“You want to meet Virgil?” Virgil could faintly hear from across the street to which the twin nodded, looking up with a tired and drained expression.
Virgil smiles sympathetically and gave the twin a small wave.
“Virge, I believe I’ve told you about me having a sibling before. This is Remus,” Roman said softly, looking down to Remus.
“Sup, Roman hasn’t shut up about you for weeks,” Remus said without much more explanation.
Virgil laughed. “Somehow, that doesn’t surprise me. Does it consist of gushing about potential romance and how I look like a Hot Topic exploded, only for that to add to my charm and appeal?” he teased, smirking towards Roman with a wink.
Roman gasped, only to gasp even louder when Remus started talking.
“Fuck yeah, it’s nothing but ‘Oh, he’s so gorgeous and stunning, I simply can’t resist him! He’s my soulmate Remus- Hey stop laughing at me!’” Remus said as a response, making dramatic movements to mimic his brother.
Roman pushed him, pouting. “This is unfair! You’re my brother, you’re supposed to love me!” he whined out, only for Remus and Virgil to start laughing.
“Never said I don’t!” Remus hummed out.
“Asshole!”
“Well that’s not a very nice thing to say to Virgil~”
After a second, Roman’s eyes widened and he turned to Virgil. “You’re not, I promise, I don’t even remotely think of you like that, My Chemically Imbalanced Romance,” he tried to defend.
Remus and Virgil smirked to each other.
“Awwww, you came up with an emo themed pet name for me? You have it bad~” Virgil cooed.
Roman’s cheeks flared bright red and he moved his eyes down to his hands clasped together in his lap. Remus clapped his hand over Roman’s back, making the latter jump a bit as Remus stood up.
“Well, it’s been an honor, I give my official seal of approval to marry my bro bro!” Remus said with a goofy bow, cracking a smile at Virgil.
“Good to know I have your approval to torment him till death do us part,” Virgil replied with a smirk.
Remus turned to Roman, pointing a finger at Virgil. “I like him, don’t fuck yourself over,” he commented before going inside.
“I hate him sometimes,” Roman grumbled as soon as the front door shut.
“I have no clue why,” Virgil hummed back.
“I hate you too.”
“Whatever helps you sleep at night, Princey~”
_____
“Alright, if you had to give up Disney or drama for the rest of your life, which would you choose?” Virgil asked with a smirk, hearing Roman gasp loudly.
“You dare make me choose between two of my darling babies?” Roman whined, holding a hand to his forehead.
“Geez, I think it’s looking like Disney, drama is hardwired into you, Sir Sing-a-lot,” Virgil snorted, smirking.
“I hate that stupid smirk you get when you think you’re being clever and hot as all hell,” Roman grumbled, pouting as Virgil only smirked wider.
“Awwww, how cute~”
“Shut up, Hot Topic.”
“Aww, you think I’m hot~”
“I will actually come over there and hit you.”
“And risk messing up my hotness? Nah, you wouldn’t dare~”
_____
“Do you really have to move so far away..?” Virgil asked softly one night, a year from their first meeting.
“This school is a really good one, I want to try my luck at show business, you know?” Roman told him, holding the same sad expression as Virgil was.
“I know, it just... sucks for me,” Virgil sighed. “I feel like I just got to know you and now you’re leaving me forever.”
Roman laughed, giving Virgil an amused expression. “You say this as if I can’t text you.”
“You’ve never given me your number, I don’t know how you would,” Virgil said with a tight smile.
Roman was finding some way to laugh and find light of the situation, just as he always seemed to do. It reminded Virgil of his dad in all honesty. Virgil couldn’t see how there was much in this situation to smile about but he tried. He tried because he loved Roman.
He loved Roman..
“Roman.”
Roman’s gaze landed on Virgil as he looked up. “Yes?”
“I love you.”
If it was possible, Virgil thought this was the brightest red Roman had ever turned.
“What?”
“I love you, Roman Prince, and if that’s horribly offensive to you, you don’t have to give me your number and you can forget about me when you become a famous actor,” Virgil only half-joked, hugging himself. He shouldn’t have said that, he felt like he was going to cry and for no good reason too. He was going to look like a crybaby in front of the guy he just told about his feelings, this could not get much worse.
“Do you really mean that?”
“Yeah, why else would I say it?” Virgil muttered out.
Roman laughed loudly. “I love you too, my dark and stormy knight! Oh I love you with all my heart and I will as long as you accept it!”
Virgil looked up, seeing Roman basically bouncing in place on the curb, his eyes wide and filled with excitement. He definitely was beautiful, Virgil would never doubt that.
_____
For the first time in a while, Virgil had company. Not Roman, unfortunately, he was still going to be at college for another month or so. Virgil was outside sitting with one of his dads tonight.
“So you come out here every night?” Logan asked.
“Yep, it helps.”
“I’m glad it does. I can see why, it is nice to get some fresh air. Hopefully your dad is still asleep, I’d hate for him to panic.”
“He’ll be fine, he knows I’m out here and will probably come out here to ask if he does wake up.”
“I suppose you’re right.”
Virgil leaned his head on Logan’s shoulder, closing his eyes as he was pulled closer. They stayed like that in silence for a little bit.
“So when does Roman get back again?” Logan asked, a suspicious tone to his voice.
With a sigh, Virgil looked over to his papa. “He won’t be back for a-“
“Oh I think right about now,” a voice in front of them chuckled.
Virgil’s eyes flicked up in an instant.
Roman.
“You’re here early,” Virgil muttered out dumbly, something Roman was barely able to hear from across the street.
“Yep, I am,” he chuckled, bowing. “Virgil. Mr. Hart, a pleasure truly.
Logan smiled at Roman’s antics. “And to you yourself. I trust that my son is in good hands now, watch after him,” he said with a squeeze to Virgil’s shoulders before getting up and heading to the house.
“It would be my honor and privilege,” Roman said gently, more so to Virgil than anyone else.
“I can’t believe you’re here...” Virgil dumbly emphasized.
“Yes, well. I finished a semester early and wanted to hurry back home but needed to stay a few more months. I would’ve liked to spend the holidays with you ideally but c’est la vie, there’s not much I can do about it now! Is my presence still welcome regardless?” Roman asked with an awkward grin.
“Yes, god you idiot,” Virgil laughed out.
Roman couldn’t help but smile and nod. “Then I shall offer my companionship for the night,” he said as he sat down, still looking to Virgil with that smile.
Virgil quickly got up and started walking forward, stopping to look both ways across the street before rushing over to Roman, practically tackling him to the ground. Roman’s laugh was quieted as Virgil’s hands cupped his cheeks and Virgil was kissing him for a brief moment.
“Wow, oh boy, is kissing always supposed to make you feel this high?” Roman asked with a giggle, a dazed and happy expression taking over his face. “I’ll have to go away more if it means getting greetings like that,” he muttered out dreamily to himself.
Virgil flipped him off without hesitation.
“Ah, there’s my charming prince’s usual greeting, how I’ve missed it~”
“Shut up. You’re not going anywhere,” Virgil mused, kissing his cheek.
“Well with you here, it’s hardly difficult to stay~” Roman hummed, leaning in to kiss Virgil again.

Not According To Plan
Pairing: Drake Walker x MC (Riley Liu)
Book: The Royal Romance (It Couldn’t Wait Another Moment universe, various time points)
Word Count: ~3800
Rating: NC-17 (language, 30 diamond content)
Summary: A few snapshots of times that things didn’t exactly go smoothly in the bedroom
Author’s Note: Hope everyone had a happy Valentine’s day! This is a little collection I have wanted to write for a long time and in fact told @burnsoslow I was contemplating months ago. It probably doesn’t surprise anyone who has read It Couldn’t Wait Another Moment that I adore sexy moments that aren’t at all magical, but instead filled with humor and interruptions and real-world struggles. So this is a series of several moments in Drake and Riley’s life after the end of ICWAM where intimate moments didn’t exactly go as they hoped. The timeline isn’t very important, and nothing here really requires any knowledge of that universe. Aside from a few details, this could basically be canon-compliant. So, hopefully a few of you also enjoy the blending of the sexy with the humorous. Content warning for minor injury/blood (snippet 2) and drunk sex (snippet 4).

“Bertrand’s office? Really?”
Riley just gave him a little smirk over her shoulder as she nudged the door open with her hip. “Yes, really. Unless you are too much of a coward.”
Drake rolled his eyes, following her into the room, his hand tracing along the skin of her back, bared by her turquoise jumpsuit. “It’s not that, Liu. But I will point out that our room is just upstairs.”
She spun around at that, pressing her chest against his. His eyes flicked down, appreciating the very plunging neckline of her outfit for not the first time that night, before jumping back to her face. Her eyes were bright and sparkling, her cheeks glowing. The look she was giving him told him he was in trouble. She knew he was fucking powerless to say ‘no’ to her.
“It’s too early in the night to leave your sister’s birthday party. And going to our bedroom would definitely be leaving the party.”
“And this isn’t?”
Riley shook her head as she reached her arm out, shoving the door closed behind him. “Nope, this is just a little tour of the estate.”
“Uh huh. Sure.”
“What? His office is part of the public wing. And it’s just down the hall from the dining room.” She widened her eyes in mock innocence as she slid her hands across his shoulders and down his sports coat to his belt, hooking her fingers around it as she started walking backward toward the desk, tugging him with her. “I just was curious and wanted to explore.”
“Explore? Suddenly developed an interest in stuffy home offices?”
She laughed at that before spinning them around so that Drake found himself leaning against the front of Bertrand’s desk. “Oh, they’re one of my greatest passions.”
“That why you’re so eager to check this one out again?” he asked as his hands settled on her hips, his thumbs tracing small circles.
Riley smirked, dragging her hands up to his neck, tugging his head down until their foreheads were pressed against one another. “Are you telling me you were… satisfied-” she kissed him lightly, barely moving her lips against his before placing her mouth against his ear “-with how things ended last time we were here?”
Drake swallowed roughly. It was shit like that which made her impossible to say no to. Even though he knew that hooking up in Bertrand’s office wasn’t a great plan. But all sorts of memories of that damn first kiss, how it had felt to hold her, to hear her say she wanted him, came rushing back with her little teasing statement, combining with the smell of her peach body spray and the feel of her breath against his ear, filling his mind entirely with her - both past and present.
Their next kiss was aggressive. Possessive. Consuming. His fingers threaded through her hair, pulling out a few damn pins in the process which he threw on the desk as Riley worked her lips down his throat, her fingers undoing his belt and the button and zipper on his jeans. He let out a groan as she tugged down his boxers and slipped her hand around him, slamming his eyes shut and dropping his head forward, his nose buried in her thick hair. But after a few seconds, the scent of her shampoo disappeared.
Drake dragged his eyes open, taking in Riley sinking to her knees, drawing a much more pathetic, desperate sounding noise from his throat. She smiled smugly at that, raising an eyebrow before she said, “Looks like someone is eager to finish what we started last year.”
He couldn’t argue with that. Couldn’t even tease her back really. He was powerless to do anything but let his head fall back and grip the edge of the desk tightly, barely holding on as her lips slid around him, her tongue working along the underside as she bobbed her head, taking him further into her mouth.
“Shit, Riley,” he hissed out as he felt himself brushing against the back of her throat. It was too much. She was too much. He felt his pleasure starting to build, coiling in his gut, when a quiet but surprised sounding gasp caught his attention.
“Savannah?” he choked out as he saw his sister staring at him from the doorway, her eyes wide in horror, her hand pressed to her lips. “What are you doing here?” he asked as he slid a hand under Riley’s arm, hauling her to her feet as quickly as he could. She moved to spin around, but he held her firmly in front of him. The last thing he needed was to give his sister more of an embarrassing show.
“I… well I was just-” Savannah sputtered her cheeks growing pinker by the second. Before she could stammer out any sort of answer, Bertrand’s voice echoed from the hallway, his words growing louder by the second.
“My dear, I don’t think anyone saw us, but we should probably-” He appeared behind Savannah in the doorway, his hands sliding around her waist before he caught sight of Drake and Riley, his words cutting off abruptly as he jumped back slightly. “Riley, Drake. We were just… we uh… well, we needed to review some paperwork,” he said. Savannah closed her eyes and physically winced, her cheeks flushing bright red with Bertrand’s excuse. “What brings you both to my office?” he finished lamely.
Drake couldn’t speak. This was so awkward. Embarrassing. Humiliating. Fuck, this might be the most uncomfortable moment of his life. Savannah seemed equally unable to find any words, both her hands now entirely covering her face. After a couple seconds of painful silence, Riley twisted her head around. “We apparently also needed to ‘review some paperwork.’”
“Ah… oh, my apologies,” Bertrand said, dropping his eyes to his shoes. “Well then… we can, uh… give you the room to…” he trailed off as Savannah let out a choked noise that somehow conveyed embarrassment and discomfort. Drake knew his eyes were wide and based on how warm his cheeks felt, he was blushing like wild. This just kept getting worse.
“I think the mood has been sufficiently killed here,” Riley said, her neck still contorted as Drake kept her as a shield, his boxers and jeans pooled down around his ankles, too far down to allow him to cover up without risking flashing his sister and her boyfriend. “And I’m guessing Savannah feels the same way. Sorry for ruining your chance for birthday… paperwork, Savannah.”
“It’s fine,” Savannah mumbled, waving her hand as she shook her head.
Everyone was quiet for a few seconds, the discomfort spilling off of everyone almost palpable. Finally, Riley broke the silence. “Would you guys mind giving us a second to…”
“Right!” “Of course!” they said at the same time, spinning around quickly.
“Wait!” Drake called out, finally finding his voice. “Not a word of this. Ever. To anyone. This never happened. Agreed?”
Bertrand nodded briskly and Savannah said, “Absolutely,” before they made a rapid exit down the hallway. Once they were gone, Drake groaned, sagging back against the desk.
“Come on, you need to get dressed before someone else catches you with your pants down,” Riley said.
Drake let out a sigh as he reached down and pulled his clothing up. “I don’t want to hear a word about this from you either,” he said, finally making eye contact with her as he tugged his zipper up. Her eyes were playful and she was biting back a grin.
“What, you don’t want me reminding you about the time you called out your sister’s name while I was giving you a blow job?” she teased as she reached forward and started to rebuckle his belt.
“Liu…”
“Come on; it’s at least a little funny.”
He just shook his head. “Either Sav walking in on us or catching my little sister sneaking off for a....”
“Quickie?” Riley supplied as Drake grimaced and shook his head.
“Whatever. Either of those would have been awful enough, but at the same time? Just… fuck.”
Riley chuckled, sliding her hand into his. “I have high hopes you’ll recover from this eventually. But for now, how about we get you a drink… or seven.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Riley let out a breath as Drake sank into her. The cool wall of the shower against her back contrasted with the warmth of him against her and inside of her. With her legs hooked around his hips, her body pinned against the fiberglass, it almost felt like the entire world was just the two of them, the echoes of their moans and pleas filling the bathroom and adding to the sensation. It felt so damn good, even if the angle wasn’t perfect. There was something about doing this in the shower that just added a surreal quality to the sex.
“Fuck, Liu.” Drake groaned into her hair, “You feel so good.”
She hummed in response, tugging at the hair plastered along his neck, the warm water cascading over her fingers. He must have been able to tell that their position was better for him than her, because she felt his hand settle under her thigh, lifting her a few inches higher as he slid back. She was anticipating his next thrust hitting her just right, clutching at his hair a little more aggressively, when suddenly, the coolness against her back disappeared as Drake let out a string of curses.
Disoriented, her eyes flew open, but the water from the shower head blurred her vision as she tried to make out what was happening as she heard a loud crack and felt a sharp pain in her knuckles and knee as a duller thud echoed behind a tense groan from Drake.
She blinked several times, clearing the water from her eyes, taking in Drake’s shoulder and the floor of the tub, all she could see from her new position. She pushed herself upright, drawing another groan from Drake as she leveraged herself against his chest.
“Drake! Oh my god, what happened?”
He took in a deep breath, coughing slightly as water pelted his mouth and nose. “I slipped. You okay?” he huffed out.
“Am I okay? Drake, what made that noise?”
“I hit the tap on the way down,” he said, his voice still weirdly breathy and quiet as his hands settled on her hips.
“Can you not breathe? Here, I can-” Riley moved to climb off him, essentially straddling him based on their position when they fell, but Drake gave her hip a squeeze as he shook his head.
“Just got the wind knocked out of me.” His voice was a little louder as he blinked a few times, his eyes tracing over her. “You okay?” he repeated.
Riley nodded. Sure, her knee and her knuckles still stung, but he had broken her fall with his body. “I’m not the one who we need to be worried about here.”
Drake just shook his head. “I’m fine, Liu.”
She frowned at that. “Drake… what part of you hit the faucet?”
He paused for a moment before answering. “My head-”
“Shit, Drake! Let me-”
“-But, like I said, I’m fine. Just going to have a bit of a headache.”
“You could be concussed, you moron! Look at me!”
Drake rolled his eyes before locking his gaze on hers. “What, you have experience as a medic I don’t know about?”
She swatted his shoulder. “You think you can sit up?”
He nodded and pushed his hands on the floor of the tub. As Riley glanced down to see how he was moving, she noticed swirls of red twisting in the water as it sank down the drain. “You’re bleeding!” she cried out, pointing down.
Drake glanced around before running his hand along the back of his head. “Huh,” was all he said as he looked at his fingers, glistening bright red.
Riley leaned forward, looking around to the back of his head and tracing her fingers over his scalp until she found the cut behind his ear. “Fuck, you’re going to need stitches, I think. It’s pretty big.”
His head started shaking at that, so Riley scooted back. “What?”
“I can’t go in like this,” Drake said, his eyes wide in horror.
“Well, I would hope you would put on some clothes.”
“Liu, I can’t tell them I split my head open during sex!”
Her jaw dropped open as she stared at him. “Why not? It’s not like they haven’t seen weird injuries before.”
“Can’t you just take care of it?”
“Oh, so now I’m a qualified medical professional?”
“Riley… please.”
While his worry over the embarrassment factor was reassuring that he probably wasn’t too injured, Riley knew he still needed some actual medical attention. “Drake, come on. Your choices are bleeding to death in our shower or sucking it up and telling some doctor you have sex with your fiancée.”
He let out a massive sigh, which Riley took as acquiescence. She climbed off of him and out of the shower, washing her hands in the sink before grabbing her lime green towel and wrapping it around her body. She saw Drake run his hand over his face in the mirror. She spun around and took a step back to the shower, reaching over and turning off the water.
“Stay right there,” she said, running a hand along his shoulder. “I’ll be back in a couple of minutes and we’ll get you dressed before the ambulance gets here.”
“Ambulance?” He jerked his head over to look at her, wincing with his sudden movement.
“Well, we can’t exactly take a Dryve while you’re bleeding.”
He let out another groan at that, dropping his head forward and holding it in his hands. “This is so embarrassing.”
She gave his shoulder a squeeze before heading to the bathroom door. “Chin up, Walker. If you stop moping about this, I promise I won’t tell Maxwell this story.”
“You wouldn’t.”
She just wiggled her eyebrows as she smiled at him before ducking out of the bathroom, chuckling to herself as she listened to him muttering “Fuck,” through the door.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Drake let out a sigh as he closed the door to their bedroom. “She’s out. Finally.”
Riley glanced up from her phone, shaking her head as he tugged off his shirt and tossed it into the hamper. “Do not tempt fate, saying something like that with such confidence.”
“Hey, I read her three stories and did all the voices. I wanted to make sure she was down for the night.”
“Famous last words. Her stubbornness is the stuff of legends.”
“Hmmm, I wonder where she possibly gets that from?” Drake teased as he leaned over and kissed Riley, reaching out to cup her cheek.
“I will take 50% percent of the blame for that most days, but not today,” she quipped as Drake stepped back from the bed and pulled off his jeans.
“Fair enough. You have a good birthday?”
She nodded and gave him a smile, setting her phone down on the nightstand. “I did. Even if I think there was more frosting than actual cake.”
Drake chuckled at that. “Sorry. I couldn’t tell her ‘no’ when she wanted to help ‘give Mommy a pretty cake,’” he said as he climbed into bed.
“Marshmallow,” she said, rolling onto her side to face him.
“Yeah, yeah. I’m a total softie,” he sighed out before twisting to face Riley, kissing her deeply as he sank his hand into her hair, pivoting to position himself over her after a few moments, falling in against her as she slung a leg around his hip.
He kissed along her jaw, working his way down her neck, listening to the contented little sigh she let out, her fingers clutching as his shoulder as he slid his hands along her thighs, massaging as he went, before he tugged off the cotton shorts she wore to bed, peeling down her panties a second later.
Drake moved toward the end of the bed, placing a few light kisses below her belly button as he positioned himself, lifting her legs over his shoulders as she placed a pillow under her hips. He glanced up at her at that, raising an eyebrow, but she just shrugged.
“It’s still my birthday, and I want to be completely satisfied.”
He shook his head at her clear goading. “Liu, I don’t need some fucking pillow to make you come.”
“Just giving you a little-” she started, but her words twisted into a breathy groan as he traced his tongue along her center.
“What was that?” he asked, laughing as she nudged her heel into his back.
“Don’t be so smug,” she huffed out. Drake just smiled up at her before he got back to work, using his tongue, his lips, his fingers. Tasting her. Pushing her closer and closer to that edge. Reveling in the way he knew just how to get her there, the speed and pressure and rhythm that worked for her. Feeling a simultaneous swell of pride and arousal as she ground herself against his face, one of his hands clutching her hip, keeping her right where she needed to be as his other fingers curled inside her.
“Fff-uck, keep going,” she hissed out, one of her hands threading through his hair. He just knew that her other hand was over her mouth, trying to stay quiet, but muffled little groans and hums still filled the room.
He could tell she was close by the way her thighs pressed more firmly against his head, by the speed of her breathing, so he tipped his chin down and slid his tongue deep into as he stroked her clit with his thumb, and then she was gone, her feet pressing against his back as she let out a noise that could best be described as a whimper. He wiped his face against the sheet once her thighs relaxed, giving her a few seconds to recover. He was so turned on, so ready to be inside her.
“DADDY!”
He let out a sigh that morphed into a groan of frustration. That wasn’t Riley’s voice, and besides, that had never been either of their kinks.
“Told you she wasn’t really down,” Riley said, her voice all breathy and sexy, clearly sated and content.
Drake couldn’t help but chuckle at that, dropping his forehead to her stomach. “What are the odds she falls back asleep?”
“I think we’ve got about a two percent chance,” Riley mused, her hand ruffling his hair as another shriek of “DADDY!” trickled through the wall. “Make that one percent,” she added.
Drake pushed himself up and sat on the end of the bed, taking a few deep breaths as he worked on shifting his focus from his naked wife to his clearly sleep-averse daughter. He heard rustling behind him, so he twisted back, surprised to see Riley pulling on her pajama bottoms and grabbing her robe as she got out of bed.
“I can take care of her,” she said, answering his question before he could ask it. “But don’t fall asleep on me. I’m not ready to be done celebrating just yet.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it, Liu.”
She grinned at him, darting out of their bedroom before Jackie could cry out again. Drake let out another sigh as he dragged a hand through his hair. Next time, he would have to try four bedtime stories.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Drake let out a groan, obviously frustrated. “Oh come on.”
Riley burst out laughing. “I’m trying, but it’s hard for me to come when you keep having technical difficulties.”
He glared up at her, which only made her laugh harder. She slid her hands along his chest before leaning down and kissing him, tasting the whiskey still on his lips.
She didn’t think that either of them had that much to drink. Sure, she knew she was a little on the tipsy side, and so was Drake judging by how handsy he’d gotten in public, but she wasn’t drunk drunk or anything. She felt fully in control, aware of everything that was happening. Things just felt covered in a fuzzy sort of glow.
But maybe they were just a little more drunk than she thought. After all, she wasn’t sure that Drake’s repeated issues staying “excited” were that amusing, but she couldn’t stop laughing.
“You ‘up’ for trying again?” she asked as she pulled back, rocking her hips against him, unable to keep a straight face with her pun, lapsing into another fit of giggles.
“Shhh!” Drake hissed out. “You’re gonna wake the whole fucking palace!”
“You should be making me louder than this. You were whispering all the things you were gonna do to me when you got me into bed all night long. What. A. Fucking. Tease,” she said, jabbing her finger into his chest before she started laughing again. “How drunk are you?”
“I’m not drunk,” he insisted, not for the first time that night.
“Well, part of you is.”
He let out another groan at that, slapping a hand over his eyes. “I swear, I didn’t have that much to drink.”
“Maybe you’re just getting old,” Riley quipped, tossing her hair over her shoulder as she traced her hand down his chest and lower, but before she could slide her hand between them to try to coax him back into action, Drake flipped them over, drawing out a surprised little yelp and a fit of more giggles from Riley.
“I’m not old,” he insisted, but the comical pout on his face just made Riley laugh more.
“I don’t know, getting drunk off of what? Four drinks? At your brother-in-law’s wedding? That sounds like something an old man would do.”
“Maxwell isn’t my brother-in-law. And I’m not fucking drunk,” he growled as he sank into her, apparently ready to go… at least for the moment.
“Fine, your brother-in-law’s brother’s wedding. Is that better?” she asked, laughing as Drake let out yet another groan after a couple of thrusts. “Again?”
“I was fine until you kept talking about Maxwell,” Drake muttered into her neck, drawing out another round of laughter which he silenced by kissing her.
“Maybe we should just call it,” Riley said, sliding a hand along his cheek as he pulled back.
He shook his head. “I’m sorry, Liu,” he said, sinking into the bed next to her, tracing a hand along her back as she curled up along his side.
“It’s okay. Just promise me that you won’t do any shots with Liam next time we have a babysitter.”
Drake sighed. “We didn’t even do shots. It was just one last glass of whiskey.”
Riley started laughing all over again. “See, I told you. Old. Fucking. Man.”
I was housed by your warmth, Thus transformed, By your grounded and giving
2,310 words
Jude Duarte x Cardan Greenbriar
Set post The Queen of Nothing. Some fluff with about two teaspoons of angst because these two need to talk about their feelings. (title from Shrike by Hozier)
---------
Jude wandered back into the royal chambers, still reminding herself that they belonged to her now, that she was the High Queen, and it wasn’t some sort of sick secret between her and Cardan. It had been an eventful few weeks, between the battle and treaties being forged and going back to the mortal world when it was all over. All Jude wanted was to sit in bed and do nothing. It seemed funny, now, that the one thing she did her best to avoid during her exile—being sedentary and bored—was what she was longing for now. It was the first time in her entire life that Jude finally thought seeking out adventure and danger wasn’t worth the mental and physical exertion.
Lost in her thoughts, Jude tugged off her boots one at a time, then unloaded her weapons, daggers hidden in shoes and under pant legs and Nightfell, onto a table near the door in the antechamber. It was all oddly mundane, bringing Jude back to her days as seneschal and Shadow Queen, when she would return to her chambers after long days of meetings and Cardan’s schemes and pretending that she still hated him. Most of it was still the same, she did have far too many meetings with people who still didn’t see her as a strong queen—some because she was, after all, only human, others because they couldn’t see that 90% of the reason Cardan had avoided war and bloodshed for as long as he did was because of her ruling in secret for months—and she did still have to deal with Cardan’s schemes, however now they weren’t meant to break her down or push her away and when you can laugh with the person antagonizing you it changes the nature of things quite a bit. The last bit is different, though, because Jude doesn’t have to, nor wants to, pretend she hates Cardan anymore. Somewhere along the line, in between being pissed at him for exiling her and feeling more despair than ever at the moment she realized she would have to kill the serpent, unsure of what that meant for the man she loved, Jude realized it wasn’t worth pretending that she hated him anymore. Afterall, the whole court knew they were married, and Cardan knew how she felt, even if she didn’t actually verbalize it, and it just felt dumb to pretend to hate someone that she obviously cared so much about.
It was all a lot of feelings that Jude didn’t like thinking too much about, so instead she just let things happen as they did and didn’t analyze why she acted the way she did, lest she be forced to face some truths that she was steadfastly ignoring. She wouldn’t think about the way her heart fluttered when Cardan caught her eye from across the room during meetings with advisors and grinned before anyone paid him any attention. She wouldn’t think about the feel of his hand in hers when they would walk into grand rooms at the start of revels, of the way his hand reassured her and helped ground her. And above all else, Jude refused to think about the way she almost whispered decidedly romantic things into the dark of the royal chambers when she woke before Cardan and saw the peaceful look on his face while he reached out for her in his sleep. No. Jude refused to acknowledge it all, because she was never one for putting feelings into words and it all felt useless to say romantic things to someone after all she had been through. It wasn’t as if she’d never told Cardan how she felt, he knew she loved him, she had said as much, but something about saying out loud with abandon, without giving it proper weight, still felt foreign to her.
And thus, caused Cardan’s new favorite game— antagonizing Jude by being overly honest. Because, while Jude was perfectly, content leaving things unsaid and instead replacing them with actions that showed her feelings, Cardan was overly fond of saying how he felt over and over and over again—in vivid detail. Part of it was because he couldn’t lie, which to be fair, wasn’t exactly his fault, but it was mostly due to his new policy of refusing to evade Jude’s questions and being more honest with her than anyone else. It was quite the predicament, because Jude couldn’t leave so much unsaid and unacknowledged when Cardan wouldn’t hide a single thing he felt or thought.
Which all brought Jude back to the present, where she was pointedly ignoring the High King seated on a chair near the fireplace, watching her intently. He looked ready to say something, and Jude didn’t think she could handle any of his scheming before she bathed or at the very least was sitting down. Luckily, Cardan didn’t say anything, instead opting to gesture for Jude to join him by the fire with a wave of his hand. Jude obliged, softly padding across carpets to Cardan, before slipping into his lap. This was one of the few things Jude was actually not ignoring—she knew she wasn’t the best at being verbally affectionate, but something about soft touches and hugs alone in a room felt a lot less intimidating than vocalizing or working out her feelings, and if she was honest, after getting a taste of the mundane, affectionate ways that Cardan would press up against her when she was brushing her hair or trace her ear and jaw and arms with a featherlight touch while she read papers in bed, she didn’t think she could ever give it up. Right now, Cardan seemed content to hold her in his arms, albeit a little awkwardly because of the chair’s size, but he didn’t seem to mind, instead opting to pull her closer to him, resting his head on top of hers. She felt safe and content and another emotion she refused to name as a part of her valiant “Don’t think about how much you love Cardan in case you accidently turn into a romantic pile of mush” policy. Regardless, Jude thought she could stay like this forever, huddled in Cardan’s embrace in a room where the only sounds were the crackling fire and the steady rhythm of his heartbeat.
Cardan, however, decided that he would not stay like that forever, and interrupted her peace with a whispered “Jude,”
She made a soft noise in response, already dreading whatever nonsense he was going to bring up.
“Jude,”
“What, Cardan?” It wasn’t a harsh question, but it definitely wasn’t the kindest voice ever used, revealing her exhaustion from the day.
“What are you thinking about?” Jude tensed, she knew he would eventually ask her this question, not to antagonize her, but because, as she’d learned over the past weeks, Cardan had genuine interest in everything she did and said and thought. Usually, Jude could say something vague about treaties or Vivi or Taryn and the baby, but right now she couldn’t think of anything but Cardan and warmth in her chest. She knew she could lie, but there was always some level of guilt brought on by outright lying to the one faerie she could trust to never mince words or disguise the truth through clever language. So instead of saying anything she froze, and she knew Cardan could feel it.
“I’m just asking because you seemed lost in thought since you walked in the door, but you don’t have to answer if you don’t want.” As always, Cardan was almost a little too sweet, something that still caught Jude off guard after years of rivalry and spiteful interactions.
“It’s not that I don’t want to answer, I just, I don’t. I—” She cut herself off, what was she going to say, I just don’t want to say that I was thinking about how much I loved this, how much I love you, because I can’t handle emotional vulnerability so I made a pact with myself to never acknowledge that I love you out loud unless I have too because I don’t think I could process it? She was already decidedly ignoring the way she so easily said she loved Cardan in her thoughts, how in the world could she say that out loud? It felt absurd in the moment, like this was all some joke. She could lie to Cardan and herself and say she wasn’t thinking of anything and it’s no big deal, or she could go against the one rule she had been steadfastly following for months now and stop feeling like she was constantly hiding something. It was a harder choice than she would admit because the comfort of her routine was nothing compared to the comfort of Cardan’s embrace and after a long day a part of her yearned to just stop thinking and let go of all her worries, it wasn’t like Cardan didn’t feel the same or would be surprised by her feelings, in fact he seemed way too smug the first time she admitted how she felt out loud.
And so, in a moment of bravery—which in hindsight felt silly, she hadn’t been as worried in battles, when faced with death and destruction as she was in this moment—she said as loudly as she could bring herself to, “I was thinking about you. About how much I love you.”
The fire continued to crackle, something Jude forced her entire attention upon as she came to terms with her uncharacteristically honest confession. Unsurprisingly, Cardan responded quickly, “How fitting, I was just thinking the same thing.”
Jude felt the tension leave her body at his words, feeling foolish for worrying about any of this. She turned her face into his chest so she could feel the warmth of his skin through his shirt.
“Really?” Her voice was soft and muffled in the fabric of his shirt.
“Always. You are entirely too distracting, my love. Even when I tried to convince myself to hate you, I was constantly thinking about how much I loved you.”
The words caused her breath to stutter, something about the offhand way Cardan could say things like that made her feel things she never imagined. He was truly gifted in getting under her skin in all the best ways, something she loved and hated at the same time.
“I hate you,” she whispered. “I hate that you just say things like that and expect me to do anything in response, it’s not fair at all.”
Jude could feel his smile as he a pressed a kiss to the crown of her head.
“Well, do you want me to stop then?” His voice was terrible at hiding the smile that was taking over his face. “After all, I never want to cause you pain, and the last thing I want is for you to hate me.”
Jude hated him, hated that he could get under her skin like this, but refused to be the only one being antagonized in the moment, “No, you don’t have to stop. Perhaps I should just take a page from your book and be alarmingly honest. I could say that even though its not fair that you say things like that, I feel the same, that even when I am determined to ignore you, I get pulled in and love you a little more.”
It was his turn to startle, after all, Jude’s strength was just as much in how she lied and hid things as it was in her skills as a warrior. Her honesty had definitely caught him off guard and hearing her verbalize things like that was a complete rarity. She smiled into his chest, knowing she had the upper hand.
Cardan’s voice filled the air, “When you were gone, I felt like my heart was on fire, like I had everything I needed to survive, but nothing I needed to live. I don’t think I could manage without you.”
“When you were a serpent,” Jude could feel Cardan stiffen under her at the words, but continued on, “I thought about keeping you forever, because I don’t think I could live with myself if you were dead, even if that meant living with something that wasn’t truly you for the rest of my life.”
The words hung in the air for a moment. Jude’s vulnerability surrounding them like an unfamiliar blanket.
After a few minutes, Jude forged on, “I think that I was scared that you dying would prove that everyone I loved would leave me. First my parents, even though that wasn’t their choice, then Madoc betrayed everyone and Vivi left to the mortal world, and after all my struggles with her by my side, even Taryn betrayed me at one point. So, I thought that if you left, then that was it, that I was a curse, that loving people ended in disaster. Which saying out loud feels stupid, because none of it was my fault, it wasn’t like I pushed them to do any of those things, but when everyone you love leaves, things don’t really have to make sense in reality to make you scared of them.”
Cardan’s arms curled tighter around her body, “Well, I can promise you this: I will never leave you, nor will I ever make you leave me again. You don’t get a choice now, Jude, I’m yours, forever. There’s no one else, nothing else, that will ever matter more to me.”
The spark in her chest was back as she heard the words, filling every part of her tired body with energy as she tilted her head up to look at him. And in the warmth of his arms, she smiled and whispered, “I love you, Cardan, more than I could ever say.”
Fairytale Complex - [Undertale | Sans x Reader]
[Gender Neutral, Frisk's Parent Reader | Slow Burn]
Chapter Twenty One | It's Showtime! (Part 2 of 3 | His POV)
[First] | [Previous] | [Next]
Alternate Chapter Title(s):
Saint Behind the Glass** (Song Referenced)
or
The Extra Corny One With A Second Song Title Reference, Part 2½**
• • •
**This basically reveals Part 2 and 3 were meant to be Chapter Twenty-Two at one point (similar to how various chapters from the old version of FaiCom have been merged together here), buuut each chapter has essentially took place on different days in this version, so...
Let's keep that format, shall we?
• • •
Something's wrong.
That single sentence continues to repeat itself over and over as he makes it from Ruins to Hotland with the human, who remains quiet and distant during the entirety of the walk.
They're obligated to take off their jacket and reveal a sweaty tank top midway through, leaving their arms bare, these they try to hide from his line of sight by crossing them and glancing aside. He wonders why they do that at first, until he witnesses how hefty and soft-looking their arms are, a noticeable difference compared to the toned muscles he often saw from those who worked at the Royal Guard. Whether the human felt unconfident of their appearance or vulnerable as a cause of the nightmare he assumed to be related to, Sans wasn't completely sure of. Either way, he's aware it's best not to bring that up currently. The ups and downs to their health and body had shown greatly through these past few months, and though they were recovering little by little, they seemed to be facing some more frequent downs, as of late. Their call from a few days ago and the weak state they were in as they climbed into the back seat of Papyrus's car were just enough to make him fear there's something bigger going on.
"Shoulda worn shorts or somethin'," he comments, noticing they already seem to be affected by the heat. Frisk ventured through a variety of climates with no trouble at all, yet their parent was showing signs of fatigue in their body within a few minutes into their walk through Hotland. The place had grown about twice as hot since he last visited, though he doubts the human will believe him if he were to say that out of nowhere. They could likely take it as him trying to console them for their inability to be stronger than him; or their own child, for that matter -- someone meant to see them as a role model rather than a frail and dependent person. "Wanna borrow some of mine?"
The human stares at him like he's made the most absurd suggestion there is, similar to that of mixing water with cereal or cooking steak in a toaster. "I swear, you test your luck with me a little too hard sometimes."
"I mean it, though."
"...We're not even dating yet."
"Yet," he says, mirth in his tone. "As in, there's still a possibility for us to become official?"
"Oh, stop it." They frown and fumble with the keys hanging from their satchel; he notices their nails are stubby, and bits of dried blood can be seen at the corners of plenty. "I… I don't know when you're being serious with me or not anymore."
"I meant that, too," he states, chuckling. "Would it be late if I told you I got that punch at the bar, 'cuz I had my head way in the clouds -- thinkin' about you?"
Sans receives no comment or reaction other than (Y/N) looking elsewhere and moving aside to walk a bit further from where he's at.
As a consequence, he takes a step closer, catches them with a 'hey', and reaches for their cheek when they look down at him. "...What's the matter? Your face's burnin'."
"We're in Hotland," they retort, rolling their eyes and brushing his hand away. "Ice's frozen. Water's wet. The sun's scorching-"
"-Just like you."
They walk off again, albeit with some struggle now that the heat of Hotland has combined with their embarrassment.
"And I'm not gonna wear your shorts. It would be a waste of time for me to take a break just because of some heat -- I'm not weak."
"Not sayin' you are. Just sayin' I don't want you to die from a heatstroke."
"Either way, I overlooked my situation, and I failed to prepare for it." A solemn look falls on their face, coupled with a firm posture. "I should've kept in mind my health, so it wouldn't be right for you to try redeeming my lack of preparedness. I should've asked Frisk or you more about this." They take in a breath and sigh it out. "...even if you can adapt to it just fine, and even if Frisk didn't have as much trouble to adjust as me."
Hot-headed and fiery might just be the finest ways to describe the human's current attitude, yet he very well knows making another joke about their temper -- combined with their hotness and the place they're currently at -- would be far too much. It wouldn't surprise him if they decided to call off the tour halfway through. Patience wasn't quite their main trait, though they practiced a sufficient amount of tolerance when it came to confronting his constant coquetry for the duration of those two months one of their coworkers mentioned in the chat; he can hardly believe it's been that long, and even less how close he was to kiss them that one time on the couch. More than sixty days of dealing with his presence had to be considered an achievement of some sort, even if their feelings were mutual. The monster's completely aware of how tiring and exasperating he can be on the often occasion, so he finds it best to start rationing how much he can be at once; too much of something's rarely ever good or effective, after all.
"But... Alright. Risking it would only make it worse, either way." Their gaze turns soft and they concede with a quiet huff. "Wouldn't we have to go allll the way back, though?"
"Not exactly," he replies, winking.
Sans proceeds to unzip his jacket and reveal a folded bundle of clothing underneath it.
"I know you can be stubborn sometimes, so I came prepared." He turns it over and adds, "There's a full set of clothes there, in case ya wanna freshen up at Met's old hotel before we keep goin'." His hands brush with theirs as they take the clothing from him. "It's been abandoned for a short while now, but I'm pretty sure the water's still runnin' well, for the most part." His gaze falls on their belongings again, and he gives into a cheekier grin as he continues with, "I've noticed somethin' about you, by the way."
"And what would that be?" they ask, mouth straight and tone wary.
He observes the satchel again -- the more-heavy-than-it-looks bag they almost always seemed to carry along with them, be it for something as typical as their job to something as simple as going out for a walk. What made it odd was knowing what contents could be found inside, these he has a vague recollection from when he had no other choice but to organize their bag after having gone through it when they fainted at the bus. Sans can still remember having rummaged through layers of Frisk's clothing, school supplies, and even a few monster-aimed medicines before setting the first aid kit back to its rightful place. The only things he could recall to be truly theirs were their cellphone, wallet, keys, and eyeglasses case. Going back to that memory makes him wonder -- were their priorities in the format of a list -- what number they would label themself with.
"You usually carry stuff in that bag meant for other people -- not you." He eyes the pocket with a few contents poking out from it. "...Or am I Ied to believe that bright pink Husky hairpin's yours?"
The human looks confused for a moment, until their eyes cast down at their bag and assess the pocket his gaze is most focused on. Then, they come across one of the smaller ones, where the mentioned accessory stays clipped to. "It- It's not! That's just in case Frisk needs it." They take it and hide it away in one of the bigger, emptier pockets. "It's their favourite hairpin, and they use it more often now that their hair's getting longer."
"But they ain't here right now."
"Yes, but what if they need it later -- when I go pick them up?"
He can barely contain the joy their overly defensive expression brings upon his face.
Perhaps it's pure projection or coincidence, but they appear to resemble the same dog he mentioned with the stance they hold, not threatening in the slightest and charming at best, but still ready to attack -- figuratively, of course. Hearty laughter escapes him, though he covers it up with a harrumph. "I'm surprised you don't carry the whole house with you, at this point."
"It doesn't hurt to be prepared."
"If only you applied that thought for you, too."
They swat his skull with their hand and let out a chuckle. "Don't nag me, teddy bear." Nonetheless, a more serious look overcomes them as they sigh. "You're right, though." With how quiet it gets and how long that pause lasts, it appears as if they've become lost in their thoughts. "Not only did the social worker suggest it, but it's not fair for me to keep bothering you or anyone else because of my..." They scratch their throat and grin. "...consistently questionable life choices."
"Is that a promise I'm hearin'?"
"A big and definite one."
Half-open windows help bring some clear air into the stuffy room, as does the air conditioner set to the coldest temperature possible by lessening the dryness and heat of the wind. It's all paired up with the scents of the fresh cinnabunnies and iced coffee he carries in some paper bags, food he bought at Snowdin while the human showered. Sans sets the meal by the nightstand, covers it up with some aluminum foil, and -- finally -- wipes a layer of dirt away from the mirrored dresser before assembling some toiletries on it. Then, he sits down in bed, closes his eye sockets, and waits. The sounds of his soul beating, the breeze blowing the curtains, and the shower running are the only melodies to take over the quiet of the hotel. Turning on the radio by the nightstand further assists those noises and aids in transforming the room into a more welcoming and cozy spot, overall. The last thing on his mental to-do list is to wait some more by checking his phone and updating himself on any new messages, some few from (Y/N)'s coworkers wishing him luck. A grin's inevitable as he reads through these a second time.
The shower turning off and a door unlocking are the next changes he notices, along with the radio switching from music to news.
Sans feels his breath tremble when the human steps out. They're dressed to the nines despite their attire being composed of the simplest clothing possible: a new pair of his below-the-knee shorts, these fitting slightly above theirs as a result of their taller height; plus one of his baggiest shirts, now almost at belly button length for the same reason as the first piece. What makes such a common attire seem so complex and thought-out is how well they've adjusted it to their figure; it's either that, or he has his head in the clouds again. Regardless, they knew how to fix an outfit, and it wasn't that of much surprise if he compared it to the time they pulled the same trick when borrowing some sleepwear from Toriel's wardrobe.
Or, then again…
He was slowly becoming infatuated with them and couldn't avoid finding them attractive -- no matter the clothing worn.
At the sight of (Y/N) having their back turned to him while they perform their finishing touches by the dresser, he approaches them as quietly as he can, yet he lets himself be seen halfway with the reminder of the nightmare they had and how startled they could likely be if he tried anything extreme. He goes to hug them from behind when they catch him getting closer, though they say and do nothing in response. Still, his expectations of no retaliation are promptly shattered as they turn around, grab his hands, and twirl him once, preventing the hug.
"Nice try, teddy bear," they comment, smiling. "Do try again next time." They wink.
It's a knockout when the radio decides to switch back to music, inspiring in them what he assumes is an urge to take their current hold on him to lead him into an impromptu dance.
"So… You want to get flirty with me again?" they ask, grabbing his hands tight as they sway him left and right at a rhythmic but easy motion. "Then you've got to handle me flirting back." One hand holds his left one up while the other places his right one on their waist. Theirs then falls on his shoulder when he keeps his where they placed it at, this one he has trouble keeping still with how close he is to touch their skin, part of their waist now more exposed with their movements, showing the “love handles” he'd teased them about since he first flirted with them. A subtle but no less playful smile stretches their lips; their eyes soften, though mischief flares in their gaze. "I've made the decision to trust you," they comment, twirling him around once more. "So if you'd like us to be official, we can, but…" Their steps slow down as they trail off in their thoughts.
He treads in with, "You need to wait until the CPS thing's over with, right?"
They nod. "Unfortunately."
Their sorrow stays brief and their playfulness returns, replacing their momentary frown for yet another smile. "My memory might be a bit bad though, as I've never heard you say you like me before." To further increment the effects of their teasing, their lips fall close to his teeth but end up lower, kissing his jaw instead. "...In other words," they add, hands locking firm around his neck and bringing him closer to them. "Speak now, or forever hold your peace."
Sans feels his face turn about as warm as theirs felt, and he can tell they've noticed, based on the way their face lingers close to his -- waiting.
"...I like you," he says, far too quiet to be labeled anything but a murmur; even a thought could be considered louder than his words.
They land another kiss, much closer to his teeth. "Couldn't hear you."
"I like you, puddin'," he repeats, stronger this time. "Can you, uh… do that again, though? It felt nice."
They nod, lean in further, and press yet another kiss to his face. "Gladly."
With that, the human carries on with the dance. They sway him left and right and perform small circles across the hotel room, adding a twirl every few seconds -- sometimes with them taking the lead, and vice versa. "I like you, too, Serif." Despite the meaning and weight of their words, a frown arrives on their face. "But…" They hesitate. "I still have some doubts, and I think that dream I had confirmed that."
"Would you like to talk about it?"
A few seconds of silence remain and the song ends, dropping tension in the room.
"Not now, but… But maybe later?" They let him go. "If possible, I'd like to talk at the Judgment Hall -- where you last worked before leaving the Underground."
Despite his best efforts, the skeleton can't avoid commenting, "Want me to judge how good you look right now?"
The human sighs, loud and long. "...Babe?"
"Yeah?"
"Stop."
He lets out a resounding, jovial laugh at that.
Their tone's genuinely sad, as so's their expression.
They look a hundred and ten percent done with him, though they still push forward with a, "Be serious for a moment, please. I… I really mean it, and that dream I had…" Demurral returns to their words. "It involved one of my fears about Frisk's safety, and well…" They take a deep, shaky breath. "A- And my own safety when I'm around you."
The severity of their statement dawns on him, and his view distorts itself from an attractive human to a vulnerable one standing in front of him, weak and poorly prepared -- completely alone with him in a large, abandoned, and dilapidated hotel. They were easy prey from the viewpoint of an Underground Sentry. He could easily take them captive with their current state of health and their lack of knowledge in combat. Were he still assigned to that job, had (Y/N) fallen in Frisk's stead, and were finding that seventh soul still a priority, he could just as easily inform every other member of the Royal Guard to bring the human down to the Monster King's bidding. Unlike Frisk, they had little to no determination left in their soul; a quick and direct intervention meant danger for them.
And had he still that same mindset to this day, his agreement with Asgore to serve and protect (Y/N) would be something he could break -- something simple to deal with if he framed the blame on someone else. He could just as likely tolerate some jail time for failing to fulfill his part of that job with no protest. The only real obstacle would be (Y/N)'s child themself, knowing they were likely going to guard and care for their parent unconditionally. But even then, they were still alone with him presently; in other words, he could cover up any potential evidence of him being a culprit with time to spare. Perhaps Frisk was the hero of the story, but (Y/N) was still an NPC -- someone easy to get rid of with the right amount of caution and preparedness.
"You mentioned something about Karma before, and well…" They break the silence and snap him out of those thoughts. "I've made a lot of bad choices and awful mistakes, so that makes me wonder if, m- maybe…" Tears form in their eyes as they breathe in -- once, then twice. "If maybe I don't deserve any of this kindness or forgiveness that I've been getting recently, and… And that maybe I don't belong in this story, y'know? Frisk has done all the work here so far, and they've overcome plenty of obstacles, too. Meanwhile, I- I'm a weak, ill person with a dead-end job -- trying to keep a holey row boat afloat with napkins." They let out a shaky sigh and fail at a smile. "I get that you like me, and I can't deny or ignore my own feelings for you, but I'm… I'm an unworthy, ungrateful person. We've known each other for barely half a year. Th- There's stuff you don't know about me yet -- just as I don't know about you."
Their face shines with tears, these they can't bring themself to stop with how many pour down, and how fast these are. "I've already troubled and hurt Frisk enough as it is, and I've... I've troubled well-meaning family like Brenda just as much with my mistakes." They cover their face as they sit down in bed, trying to contain their sorrow. "...And then I have these awful, intrusive thoughts that seep in whenever I think I'm doing better. I don't want to bring trouble to you or any other monsters, either, but reminding myself of my past worsens these feelings, kn- knowing I might screw up again and again and again."
Feeling the situation's getting too rough not to establish some control over it, Sans sits down with them and grabs their wrists, tugging at these for them to look down at him.
Fear reaches their gaze as they stare at his irises, completely overcoming their bright and cheerful attitude from earlier.
"Breathe," he says, voice low as he loosens his grip on their wrists -- at the feeling of them shaking almost violently under his hold. "We'll go to the Hall in a few. But, first... I'm gonna need you to calm down a lil' more." He lets go.
They nod, close their eyes, and let a few more tears drift down before he dries the rest of these off with the sleeve of his jacket. "...Alright."
When they shudder, sniffle, and recover some sense of tranquility, they look at him again and smile. "And thank you for showing me patience."
He smiles back and brings them in for a hug -- long, tight, and strong. "That I've got plenty of, puddin'."
Tumblr media
You were goddamn doing it again. Bo was so fucking fed up. It’d been a shitty morning of waking up to a blaring hangover. Breakfast had Lester and you chattering like incessant little birds while Vincent's mute ass self was somehow still being too damn loud.
He’d snapped when you laughed in the high twinkling pitch that usually hit him somewhere uncomfortable in his chest but now split his brain in two. “Jesus Christ, shut the fuck up!” Everyone stopped to stare over at him, even Vincent mid-bite, turned to stare him down.
You had a disgusted and offended look on your face that almost made him want to feel bad, but he couldn’t, wouldn’t when his head was splitting and only getting worse. You spat at him in annoyance, “What the hell, Bo?”
He grabbed his coffee cup and grunted, “Can a man drink his fucking coffee in peace? Y’all are being so fucking loud with your bullshit.” You crossed your arms and leaned forward against the table, “No, not when a ‘man’ is gonna be a dick before 9 am.” You’d said, ‘man’, so venomously he felt a tiny spark of pride because that surely was something you’d picked up from him. Regardless, he ignored it because his temper took precedence. White-knuckling his cup he took a sip before hissing at you, “The fuck did you say?”
Vincent and Lester were both looking at you now. Vinny's gaze concerned, worried, while Lester put a hand on your shoulder saying your name. You looked away from the ass at the counter and back to your friend, “Just don’t, s’not worth it.” You looked at Vincent and he shook his head, so after pursing your lips you sighed out, “Nothing.”
Bo took another sip as his anger simmered down, “S’what I fuckin thought.” He saw your jaw clench. And that felt fucking good. So when you’d followed him out to his truck after breakfast he was surprised. You walked to his passenger side and let yourself in before he could say anything. Getting in himself he turned to you, “Can I fuckin help you, princess?”
The look you gave him was like a mocking taunt, “Nah, but I could probably help you.” Bo wasn’t in the mood to play games, so he just cranked the engine and shifted gears with an eye roll, “Suit your fuckin self.”
You’d been so fucking annoying too. Following him around, commenting just enough to get under his skin, but not enough to make him want to glue your mouth shut. But God, was he contemplating it...be a waste of your pretty lips though. You’d started questioning him on mechanic things and fuck was it annoying, but they seemed like genuine questions and damn if it didn’t feel nice to have someone admire his skill for once.
But when some jock ass pricks rolled up asking for some car help, well, the side-eye you’d given him, screamed trouble. The little asshats had thought you were the receptionist, that made Bo laugh as he thought to himself, ‘receptionist my ass’. But you’d been nice and accommodating to the boys. Leaning on the counter showing them some ample cleavage that made Bo ready to say fuck his brother's art and gouge out their eyes himself for looking.
But you kept it up and he was about ready to strangle someone when you decided it was a good idea to start flirting with one of the fucks. He fucking hated when you got in a mood- you were stubborn as all get out and it never worked out in Bo’s favor when you got like this. He knew he’d been an ass earlier, but any small amount of guilt he’d had quickly evaporated. Not when he could tell you actually fucking thought one of em was cute. It wasn’t just a fake blush you were giving the twink.
Bo groaned in disgust when you laughed at something stupid that’d been said. He caught your gaze and gave you a glowering look that said ‘fuckin cut it out he wasn't in the mood.’ but the smug little smirk you returned said something different.
His mood darkened quickly when the asshole actually put a hand on you. Fucking touching you wasn’t gonna fly. Not with the morning he’d had. The little prick was on the top of Bo's shit list in an instant with your name right under it. If the little twit moved his hand any lower on your back Bo would have reached over and broke it. Instead, he didn’t and just left it so you’d realize how absolutely fucked you were.
Wiggling out from under the tourist's arm you giggled an excuse and walked back over to where Bo was. Inside you were sweating because he hadn’t stepped in like you’d thought and that spoke to how pissed he was. How fucked you were. It wasn't like you didn’t know he was mad. And, sure, you’d known what you were doing. Stopping way earlier was probably smarter, but you never claimed to be a genius, so when flirting presented itself, well, it had seemed perfect.
You’d been annoyed at him this morning, and maybe had wanted some payback. Wanted to annoy him because he’d been such an ass not only this morning but all damn week. It wasn’t fair for Lester and Vinny to constantly have to walk on eggshells when Bo was just fucking ornery.
And ok, you'd admit that you’d pushed a little too far here though. Especially with how possessive Bo was. He’d even get pissed when you tried to drink some of his coffee. So some random guy, not his brother, putting their arm around you was like a death wish. And God, was he standing beside you deathly silent-- it had you fucking sweating for real. It wasn’t the guy you were worried about, he was dead either way, but you'd maybe just fucked yourself royally. Bo's punishments were unpredictable- very good or very bad. You’d consider yourself lucky if he just ignored you or bitched for a few weeks until you were finally privileged enough for a spanking. God, there was something sick in you though because you still wanted it even if he edged you for a month before forgiving you.
He gave some excuse to the group through clenched teeth that he'd be able to work on their vehicle, but needed to take care of something downstairs first, and that they should go out and find something to do. They'd accepted his answer and left the shop none the wiser.
You'd never felt his hand grip the back of your neck faster in your life. In a deep growl, “You little bitch.” He tightened his grip, “ You’re fucking coming with me and don't even think about making a fucking peep. If you wanna be a slut I'll show you what sluts get." he kept to a slow walk until the both of you were out of view, then he all but pushed you down the stairs leading to his playroom.
He didn't even bother opening the door, just pushed you against the wall next to it-- your cheek smashed against it he invaded your space, "Think you're real slick trying to play with that little bitch in front of me?" you whined out an "I'm sorr-" but he cut you off, "What’d I fucking say?”
You cut your whine instantly, “And see, you're not sorry. You'da stopped when I fucking told you to if you were." He leaned in closer and you could hear the growl- the anger in his voice directly in your ear, "You were too busy bein a filthy fucking attention whore. Good thing you didn’t let him grab that ass otherwise I don't give a fuck how sweet that pussy is, you'd be out too. Vincent can have a hissy fit later."
Shit, you knew he was pissed, but damn this was pissed. You tried to actually apologize, "Bo, I'm s-" But his hand came up to lift your face off the wall to grip your cheeks tightly, "Nuh-uh, Don't you fucking Bo me. You're gonna shut the fuck up while I give you something to be sorry for." He pushed against your ass as he leaned over to open the door and God, he was half hard already.
Dragging your through, he made it to the edge of the bed “You're gonna sit that little ass over my lap and I'm gonna make it so Vinny’s gonna have to fucking ice it for a week." You groaned because fuck, you knew this was supposed to be a punishment and it was definitely going to hurt, but damned if you didn't need it. Him being actually pissed was hot as hell and even if you couldn’t sit for a week you really couldn’t find it in you to be mad about that. The man didn't know the power he had over you when he was pushing you around like this.
He sat on the edge of the bed and pulled you roughly over his lap. His hand on the back of your neck slid up to grip a tight fist of your hair pushing your face into the mattress. His other ripped off your skirt and panties all in one go, "You’re gonna fuckin count them you cunt and thank me for each one." You tried to nod but the fist didn't allow any movement so you let out a muffled, "Ok, yes sir." His fist tightened in preparation as your breath hitched and delivered the first rough smack to your bare ass. Your muscles tightened at the sting, "One, Thank you, sir!" he grunted and gave another just as rough-- you winced and jolted up, "Two! Thank you, sir!"
On it went until you were sobbing in his lap from the pain and how much your clit ached. “Twenty! Thank you, sir!” He hadn't gone easy, wasn’t about that. Not even a little. Taking all his aggression out on your ass and you really couldn't say you were mad about it. Sure it hurt and would probably leave some bruising, but damn it really was a good hurt.
Even when he soothingly ran a hand over the area your ass stung, "Don't give me that crying, I can tell from your sloppy pussy how much you liked this." he slid a finger through your drenched folds, "It's like Niagara falls down here. You're a little slut for this, aren't ya?" You shook your head in denial, not wanting to give him that if he was gonna be an ass about it. He slid a finger back through your folds and your hips lifted off he lap in want, "Look at that. Can't even fucking help yourself."
A swift smack shocked your system back into pain, "Don't fuckin try to take what I'm not giving, whore." You rubbed your face into the mattress trying to get yourself under control as you squeezed your thighs together. With a deep breath, “I'm sorry, sir” He laughed, "You’re really fuckin not. But I'll let it slide because I'm feelin generous.” He slid a finger into your pussy and you instantly clenched around it, but tried to stay as still as possible, “This just want you wanted, huh? My fingers in this whore cunt of yours? Think I deserve a fuckin apology after all your shit today.”
You could tell he was calmer now, but that meant dangerous. Too bad dangerous also meant sexy. And you’d give this asshole whatever he wanted as long as he’d keep sliding his fingers in and out of you, “I'm waiting, Princess.” and he slipped a second finger in scissoring them, you groaned, "I'm sorry! Ok, Bo?! I'm so fucking sorry! I shouldn't have! I knew what I was doing and that you weren't in a good mood, but I did it anyways. God, I'm sorry Daddy, please don't be mad!" you were shaking in his lap and fuck, wait...oh fuck you'd never let that slip before. Shit, you felt yourself tense up just as his cock twitched under you. Fist still in your hair pulled your face up, "What was that?!" You stayed silent and he gave a hard jerk, winching in pain, "I'm sorry....Daddy" he groaned, "Too fucking right, baby girl."
He’d started his fingers back up, roughly pushing them in and out of you, “Bein a bad girl pushing Daddy’s buttons like that. But you did so good taking that spanking.” with a twist of his hand you felt him brush up against that spongy area inside that had your hips jerk up into his hand and sobbing out a moan, “Daddy’s gonna be real sweet to you and fuck this cunt open.” you moaned again at the idea. He was so hard against you and damn did you want it inside you more than anything. You didn’t have to wait long because after another twist of his wrist he pulled his fingers out, swiped them through your folds, and gave a circle to your clit before pulling away completely. You whined, but felt him move the two of you, “Keep that fucking face in the mattress and ass up.”
Pulling your legs underneath to prop yourself up in the position he wanted, “That's right, baby. Now spread yourself open for me. Show me that pussy.” Your face burned, god he could be so nasty, but you loved it and did as he asked. Reaching both hands back to spread yourself open for him.
You heard him shuffling before you felt a hand settle on your lower back. “Look at that red ass and wet little hole.” He smoothed a hand down a cheek before he gave it a much lighter smack. You groaned and felt yourself pulse around nothing, “Look at that slutty pussy clench.” He ran a finger from the start of your ass down through your folds, coming to a stop at your clit and gave a few circles to it.
“Don't worry, sunshine, Daddy’s got somethin to fill it up with.” His hand moved away and then you felt the length of him slide up through your folds. You couldn’t stop the moan that fell from your lips as he smacked it against your pussy a few times, “Feel that? I’m gonna stretch you open real good, darlin’.” Sliding his cock back down to press the tip against your clit he brushed it back up to rest at your opening, “You gonna be a good girl and take it like a whore for me?”
Drool had steadily been falling from your lips but you couldn’t find it in you to care. Your hair was a mess and face felt on fire, but the only thing your existence came down to at that moment was the way his cock was just breaching into you- just teasingly stretching you. Slowly his words filtered through your brain to which you rapidly nodded and whined out a “Please!”
He slid in slowly before the last syllable left your mouth.
Lukadrien: Your Hands Hold Home: Chapter Five
@lukadrien-june
Read it on AO3: Your Hands Hold Home: Chapter Five: Song of the City
“We should go out,” Luka remarked as they cleaned up after family breakfast.
Adrien’s eyes went wide, and a faint blush spilled across his cheeks as he stared at Luka in shock.
Juleka dropped the bowl she had been drying, and Rose began to bounce up and down in excitement.
“My ship!” she squealed. “My ship is sailing!”
“What?!” Luka choked, whipping his head back and forth between Rose and Adrien.
With a wince, Luka waved his hands, desperately trying to do damage control. “No. No. Sorry. I didn’t mean it like that.”
“Oh,” Adrien replied hollowly, locking down all emotion so that his disappointment wouldn’t show.
“My ship,” Rose whimpered as actual tears started to bead in the corners of her eyes.
Juleka sighed, rolling her eyes and shooting Luka a pointed glare behind Adrien’s back as she came around the counter to comfort her distraught girlfriend.
“Sorry,” Luka repeated. “I just meant…we should go somewhere today. Just for fun. Not for errands or anything.”
Adrien nodded, putting on a smile and mentally consoling himself that at least he’d still be spending time with Luka.
“I’d like that,” he agreed easily.
 An hour later found them at the Jardin du Palais Royal.
“I only ever got to come here for photoshoots,” Adrien explained as they made their way to the inner courtyard, passing by an art installation known as Buren’s Columns.
“I always wanted to come back and climb on those things,” he chuckled, gesturing to the dozens of black-and-white-striped pillars of varying heights lining the courtyard.
“Well, we’re here now. Why don’t you go climb on them?” Luka suggested with a chuckle.
Adrien stopped mid-step and looked askance at Luka, trying to judge whether he were joking. “…May I?”
“You don’t need my permission,” Luka gently informed. “You’re an adult; no one’s going to stop you.”
Adrien blinked and looked conflicted about this fact for a moment.
Suddenly, Luka remembered that, up until two weeks ago, Adrien had needed permission to do something as simple as goof off like any other teen.
Adrien’s unease only lasted a handful of seconds before he summarily shrugged it off and raced towards a meter-high column, scaling it with facility.
He laughed as he hopped from the shorter column to a pillar that was almost as tall as Adrien himself. He looked back at Luka with a bright smile that made his peridot eyes twinkle.
Luka’s heart did a backflip as he savored this moment of pure joy.
He wanted to make more opportunities like this for Adrien. He wanted to enable Adrien to smile without inhibitions all the time.
“You look like a statue up on a pedestal,” Luka chuckled, pulling out his phone. “Smile, Angel.”
Adrien laughed again, just as Luka snapped the picture that was definitely going to be Luka’s new background.
“Here’s a pose for you,” Adrien snickered as he positioned himself like Michelangelo’s David.
He next performed the Apollo Belvedere and the Nike of Samothrace.
“I’m actually not sure what to do with my arms here,” he chuckled as he attempted the Venus de Milo.
“It is a little hard when the arms are missing off the source material,” Luka commiserated, taking a picture as Adrien positioned his arms over his chest as if he were covering himself.
Still beaming, Adrien climbed down off of the column, proclaiming, “Best photoshoot ever.”
“You’re done already?” Luka hummed, following Adrien as he resumed their course towards the garden.
“I can always come back later, now that I don’t have to ask anyone’s permission,” Adrien reasoned, giving Luka’s arm a playful tug. “Besides, there are a lot of other things I want to see like the flowers and the little canon and the shops and the fountain.”
“Lead the way,” Luka encouraged, content to follow.
Adrien’s enthusiasm for everything made even the square-shaped trees and the benches which Luka had seen hundreds of times interesting again.
 They strolled leisurely around the courtyard for almost an hour, stopping frequently so Adrien could get a closer look at every random little thing that caught his eye.
It was the most fun Luka had ever had at that park.
They made a loop around the garden, and when they were almost back at the entrance, Adrien took Luka by the hand and guided him over to the path shaded by rows of manicured, equidistantly-spaced trees.
“I want to sit down for a bit,” Adrien explained, leading Luka to one of the sets of Les Confidents chairs.
The chairs were the same rich green as the rest of the metal chairs in most of the major parks in Paris, but instead of being individual chairs, Les Confidents were paired. The two chairs faced one another but were positioned just cattycorner of one another with a shared armrest fusing them together.
On the backs of the chairs were excerpts from poems cut into the metal.
“Have you heard of these?” Adrien asked as he took a seat in the chair that read, “Je marche à toi, Je titube à toi, Je meurs de toi. Gaston MIRON”.
Luka shook his head, coming around to sit in the partner chair.
“They’re an art installation,” Adrien explained, pointing to the hidden headphone jack in the center of the shared armrest. “If you plug in your headphones, it reads poetry to you.”
With a warm smile, Luka pulled out his earbuds, offering one to Adrien. “Did you want to listen?”
Adrien immediately perked up, and Luka had to hold in a laugh. “Can we?”
“Sure. Why not?” Luka chuckled. “I like poetry. It’s like song lyrics without the music. I like coming up with melodies for poems when I read them.”
“I’ve never thought to do that before,” Adrien hummed thoughtfully. “…I’ve wanted to come here and do this for a long time,” he confessed, sliding the earbud into place and settling back into his chair. “I wanted to bring a date here and sit in these chairs and listen to poetry while holding hands,” he whispered, afraid to give voice to the desire, afraid of being laughed at and called a silly romantic.
“That’s a really sweet idea,” Luka replied earnestly, catching Adrien by surprise.
“You think so?” he breathed.
Luka nodded.
A diamond-like grin formed on Adrien’s lips, and he couldn’t suppress it or the blush that accompanied it. “I was worried people would think it was dumb. I’m kind of over-the-top when it comes to romance.”
“It’s endearing,” Luka assured, plugging in the headphones.
Adrien closed his eyes as Gaston Miron’s La Marche à l’Amour started. He kept his hands in his lap, not brave enough to risk putting his arm on the armrest and making an attempt to hold Luka’s hand.
Meanwhile, Luka kept his eyes open, taking advantage of the opportunity to freely study Adrien while his guard was down.
He seemed happy and at peace, and it was a good look on him.
Too often lately, Adrien had been looking like a wilted flower with tired, limp petals. Everything about Adrien seemed to droop more often than not since his father’s arrest.
It was good to see Adrien smiling and carefree again. Even better was the fact that Luka had been the one to make it happen.
“…He’s a little intense,” Luka assessed as the poem came to an end. “I liked it. It was very clear, expressive imagery, but…maybe a little too overdramatic.”
“Love’s like that,” Adrien hummed softly, basking in the moment and not bothering to open his eyes.
Luka gazed longingly at Adrien, admiring the way the sun filtered through the trees, painting outlines of their leaves on Adrien’s face as he tipped his head back, content and serene and beautiful and unattainable.
“Yeah,” Luka sighed wistfully, heart aching. “You’re right. Love is like that.”
AN: This is kinda like a filler chapter, but not really a filler chapter because it explains Taehyun's ability and also gives an insight into Hueningkai's and Yeonjun's jobs so.. yeah. Enjoy!
SUMMARY: Best friends turned enemies, Kang Taehyun has managed to trick Choi Beomgyu into his service, and to rule for a year and a day, until his youngest brother would be old enough to take the throne. Choi Beomgyu has no intention of being obedient however, and tries to thwart Taehyun’s orders at every turn. With a growing amount of distrust and lies within the court, will Taehyun manage to keep the kingdom of Gojongja from falling apart?
Tumblr media
“Oh, that’s right,” Hueningkai said, getting out of his chair to sit next to Taehyun. “I said I’d help you with your ability, right?”
Taehyun sat up. “Oh yeah! Yeah, I remember.”
“Tell me, what was your ability again?”
“Foreign exchange,” Taehyun said. “I’m from the Jeo clan, and their ability is foreign exchange.”
“Hmm… foreign exchange…” Hueningkai pressed his fingers into his temples, and scrunched up his forehead, tongue slightly poking out of the corner of his mouth. Taehyun blinked at him.
“That’s his thinking face,” Yeonjun explained. “Kai here has the most incredible memorisation skills. Anything he memorises gets stored in his brain. Forever.”
“Queen Erajin always made me memorise all the books in the palace for this exact reason,” Hueningkai said, face still scrunched in concentration.
“ All the books?” Taehyun repeated, surprised. “Surely there must be thousands and thousands of books, if it’s a palace?”
Hueningkai hummed in confirmation, pressing his fingers further against the sides of his head. Taehyun let out a disbelieving gasp, sitting back.
“But it’s okay. It only took around five years.”
“Five years?” Taehyun said. “Wow, I guess you guys really did want to become spies.”
Hueningkai opened his eyes, and gave a smile. “It was our only option,” he said softly. He clapped his hands together. “But anyway! I think I’ve read something about the Jeo clan before, but I can’t remember exactly. That’s odd.” He tapped his chin thoughtfully. “It must be a pure Gojongja clan, because we don’t have many records of them in Aruyeo.” He nodded resolutely. “Yeah, that must be it. Otherwise I would have known about them. Taehyun, you guys have records of all the clans that ever existed, right?”
Taehyun nodded. “Yeah. In our Archive. Why?”
“I think if I saw the document about the Jeo clan, it would jog my memory,” Hueningkai said.
“Oh, would you like me to get it for you?” Taehyun asked.
“No, I’ll need to come with you,” Hueningkai said, rising from the bed. Yeonjun started in alarm, and grabbed Hueningkai’s wrist.
“Kai, that’s not safe! Are you sure?” Yeonjun said urgently.
“I’m a spy,” Hueningkai reminded Yeonjun. “I’ll be fine. Besides, it’ll be more cumbersome for Taehyun to carry a large, old document back to our room. Trust me, it’ll be okay.”
Yeonjun pursed his lips, and held tighter onto Hueningkai. “I’ll come with you, then.” When Hueningkai tried to protest, Yeonjun held up a hand. “If anything happens, I’ll put all the blame on me. I don't want you getting hurt.”
Hueningkai looked like he wanted to argue, but sighed, giving a small smile.He patted Yeonjun’s hand, which was still wrapped around his wrist. “Fine, if you insist.” He turned to Taehyun, giving a fake sigh of exasperation. “Older brothers, so overprotective,” he said.
Yeonjun flicked his forehead annoyedly. “Shush. I just don’t want you getting hurt.”
“See what I mean? Ow! Okay, okay– I’ll stop! Come on Taehyun, lead the way.”
“How are you going to get around without being seen?” Taehyun asked curiously.
“I’m not,” Hueningkai said. “I’ll be walking around, plain as day, but I’ll blend in so invisibly you won’t be able to see me.”
Taehyun blinked, confused, but shrugged. “Okay.”
.・゜-: ✧ :-
“Here, the Archive,” Taehyun announced, stopping in front of a metal door protected by five guards. “With a titanium door 11 inches thick and multiple invisible lasers inside, it’s one of the most protected places in our palace.” He glanced at the guards. “Not to mention its excess of guards.”
“How do we get in, then? If it’s that guarded?” Yeonjun asked.
Taehyun gave a grin. “You forget. I’m the Grand Vizier. I’m allowed practically everywhere.” He nodded at one of the guards, and the guard produced a small key. “Thank you.” Taehyun walked up to the door and inserted the key into an almost invisible keyhole in the metal.
“Hang on, hang on,” Yeonjun said, as the door swung open. Taehyun turned to look at him. “You have all these guards and security, but it can be opened with a single key?”
Taehyun turned back to the door, and pushed the key more forcefully into the lock. The small key seemed to bend, and melted into the metal of the door. There was a green flickering from inside the room: an indication the lasers had been turned off.
“Every time a key is used, it is immediately replaced with a different one,” Taehyun said. “It has a different look, different lock combination, everything. So if someone tries to steal the key, it won’t work on the door because the lock will have already changed.”
Yeonjun raised his eyebrows in surprise. “Wow. That’s… wow. Really?”
Taehyun turned to the guard who had given him the key. The guard showed him a new key, this time rusted and red in colour.
“I don’t know how it works, but it just does,” Taehyun said, shrugging. “Anyway, come on. We don’t have all day.”
.・゜-: ✧ :-
“These cabinets on this wall are all full of the records of clans,” Taehyun said, opening one of the many cabinets inside the Archive.
“J will be in the middle,” Hueningkai said. “Come on.”
Taehyun flinched heavily, almost dropping the document he was holding. “Holy– where did you come from?”
Hueningkai quirked a grin. “I was with you the whole time. Did you forget?”
Taehyun clutched his chest, trying to slow his heartbeat. “No, I– I knew you were here, definitely–”
“I told you I could move invisibly,” Hueningkai said, still smiling at Taehyun’s shocked expression. “I didn’t even need to do anything, but I was still invisible. Cool, right?” He walked along the rows of cabinets, and opened one. “Ah, J! So the Jeo clan should be here somewhere…” Rustling of paper filled the room, but when Hueningkai’s head emerged from the drawer he just looked confused.
“What’s wrong?” Yeonjun asked, going over to where Hueningkai was.
“That’s odd,” Hueningkai said, stepping back to let Yeonjun search. “There’s no Jeo clan.”
“Really?” Taehyun said, confused. “I did my own research, and a Jeo clan definitely did exist.”
“The records suggest otherwise,” Yeonjun said, looking through the papers. He looked up. “Is there anywhere else that Gojongja may keep records of clans?”
“All I can think of is the Palace Library, but I know that library inside out–” Taehyun paused, remembering something Scholar Min had told him.
Back when Taehyun had first tried to find out about the explosive, Yoongi had told him that information about them wouldn’t be in a place he’d been to.
"You were looking in the wrong place. Spheres like these-" He rolled the marble in his palm- "aren't something you can access information on easily. They're in the section of the library I doubt you've been to."
"Which part? I assure you, I have been to every section of that library at least twice. I'm sure I know."
Yoongi chuckled. "Well, I assure you , that you have most certainly never been to the place which would hold information about these."
“Wait, Yoongi said something to me before,” Taehyun said. “Do you guys know how to access secret rooms you’ve never been into before?”
Hueningkai patted Yeonjun’s shoulder. “That’s this guy’s speciality.”
“Good. Yeonjun, I think there might be a secret room in the library which holds information about things people don’t look for. Do you think you could find it?”
Yeonjun raised his eyebrow. “Oh really?” He stretched his arms, cracking his knuckles. “I suppose I could give it a try. Let’s get going to the Palace Library.”
.・゜-: ✧ :-
Yeonjun carefully ran his fingers along the bookshelves, pausing every now and then to peer into the cracks of the wall. Taehyun and Hueningkai followed behind.
“Uh…” Taehyun looked behind him, and almost bumped into Hueningkai. “Does it always take him this long?”
“Shut up,” Yeonjun said. “It’s been a while, okay? Plus, this library is huge.” He straightened up, brushing the dust from his fingertips. “Okay, this isn’t going to work. It’ll take me five years if I do it like this. Though I may have the entire floor plan of Gojongja Palace memorised, I certainly cannot remember all the details of the library. Do you have the blueprints?”
A few short minutes later, Taehyun and Hueningkai were peering over Yeonjun’s shoulder as he eyed the map carefully.
“So? See anything useful?”
“Shh, I need to focus.” Yeonjun brought a finger to his lips, stopping Taehyun from pestering him anymore. “Plus, this is a library. We need to be quiet.”
Suddenly, Yeonjun slammed the map down on the table, yelling triumphantly. “Aha! Here!”
He was quickly shushed by Taehyun. “We’re in a library, we need to be quiet.”
Yeonjun glared at the smirking vizier, taking Taehyun’s hand away from his mouth. “Oh ha ha, very funny. Anyway, how did you not know there was a basement?”
“Huh?” Taehyun looked at the map, scrunching his eyebrows. “Basement?”
Yeonjun traced his finger along the lines, and circled a small indentation in one of the wall drawings. “See here? That means there must be a door. And, since it doesn’t lead to any hallways, there must be a lower layer of the library.”
“I did not know about that,” Taehyun said. “Come on, then! Lead the way!”
.・゜-: ✧ :-
Yeonjun rolled his shoulder uncomfortably, massaging his arm. “That door… it was so stiff. Ugh, I’m going to have arm pains now.”
Hueningkai gave a small laugh. “That’s what you get for shoving open the door. I’m pretty sure Taehyun would have had some key to open it.”
“Oh right. Why didn’t you say anything Taehyun?” Yeonjun complained, walking down. “Watch your step, guys. The last stair is really far from the ground.”
After reaching the door, the three of them descended down the stairs into the library basement. Yeonjun turned around in circles.
“Huh. There’s no light. Where are you guys?”
“Pfft– ow, what are you doing?” Taehyun held Yeonjun’s grabby hands away from him to prevent the Aruyeonan from manhandling his face again. “And duh, there’s no light. We’re underground, and we closed the door.”
Suddenly, there was a bright orange glow, and a ball of fire rolled into the center of the room, illuminating their faces. Yeonjun yelped, clinging onto Taehyun.
“Don’t worry, the fire is in the marble,” Hueningkai said. “This is a slow burner. It won’t last forever, but it’ll last long enough for us to find the document.” He pulled some more out of his pockets, and handed them to Taehyun and Yeonjun. “Let’s hurry.”
“These aren’t marbles, they’re footballs,” Taehyun murmured, struggling to hold the glass ball in one hand. “But yeah, let’s get going.”
The three of them separated, looking through the large underground library on their own. While searching for any important documents, Taehyun tutted.
“All I’ve found are erotic novels! What about you guys?” he called.
“Oh good, I’m not the only one! Hueningkai, have you found anything useful?” Yeonjun’s voice sounded to his left.
There was a yelp and the sound of paper dropping. Hueningkai didn’t answer. Taehyun waited, but there was silence. He cursed and hurried toward where the sound had come from.
Coming up to the bright light of Hueningkai’s fire, he saw Yeonjun already there, holding onto a shaken Hueningkai.
“Hyuka, are you okay? Answer me! Hueningkai!” Yeonjun shook Hueningkai, trying to get a response out of him.
“He- I saw him,” Hueningkai whispered, eyes wild. “Him. The lavender blue eyes… It was him Yeonjun, it was him!”
“Who? Who is it?” Taehyun asked.
“Hueningkai, listen, listen to me,” Yeonjun said urgently. “Listen. There’s no way he’s here, he’s just a myth, it’s okay. Why would he be here? It’s okay, it’s okay. See? He’s not here anymore.  It’s just you, me and Taehyun. It’s okay. Breathe with me. Come on, Hueningkai. Breathe.”
Hueningkai was still breathing heavily, face pale. But eventually, accompanied by Yeonjun’s patient breathing exercises, he calmed down, and the colour returned to his face. He spotted Taehyun standing there awkwardly, and gave an apologetic smile.
“Sorry, Taehyun, for having a panic attack and scaring you there.”
“No, no, it’s fine,” Taehyun assured him. “As long as you’re okay.” He paused. “By the way, who is ‘he’?”
“No one,” Yeonjun responded quickly. “Just… a spy myth. That’s all.” He hesitated, still looking concernedly down at Hueningkai. “Taehyun? Why don’t you continue searching for the papers?”
Taehyun frowned. He wanted to stay with Hueningkai and make sure he was okay, but one look at Yeonjun’s pleading face and he reluctantly nodded his head. “Alright.”
As he walked away, he heard Yeonjun whisper urgently to Hueningkai.
“Please tell me you were hallucinating, Kai. Because about a week ago, I also thought I saw him in the palace halls…”
Their voices faded away, and Taehyun tilted his head in confusion. Though he and the spies were now more than just acquaintances, it still seemed there were a lot of things he was yet to understand about their spy world.
.・゜-: ✧ :-
“Hey, I found them,” Taehyun called. “I found the documents. But… it’s embarrassingly just a single piece of parchment.”
“Oh, let’s see.” Yeonjun walked over and looked at it. He frowned. “Oh, you’re right. It’s literally just one sheet.” He looked up at Hueningkai. “How will this help you?”
Hueningkai just shrugged, holding his hand out for the document. “It’ll jog my memory, I’m hoping.” He scanned the document up and down, and his eyes lit up. “Ah, that’s right. Foreign exchange, right?” He waved the paper in front of Taehyun’s face excitedly. “I remember! The reason the Jeo clan died out was because they were systematically killed one by one since their ability was so powerful! Wow, it’s all coming back to me now! The Jeo clan ability was a closely hidden secret in the beginning, so not many people came and took the surname Jeo, because they thought it was weak. That’s the reason why there aren’t any clan branches now. Anyway, the Jeos kept their ability so secret that people thought they had no ability. And that was so, so deadly for the people. Because the Jeos would come out of nowhere and suddenly start dominating and taking over things.
“Foreign exchange is a broad term. And yes, while a name doesn’t necessarily determine an ability, there really is not a more fitting description for the Jeo clan ability. If we were to speak technically, though, it’d be intercommunication between all things. They can speak using anything. Ah, it’s hard to explain, but they can speak any language, be it that of humans, animals, trees… heck, even charms. They could manipulate their voices to speak charms. It’s really quite fascinating, if you think about it.
“Soon, the Jeos spread like wildfire, killing and charming and taking over places. That is, until they grew too strong and the other clans of that era had to unite and ‘exterminate’ the Jeos. I remember, I read about this one famous incident that happened in the First Era, regarding the Yeosan Song clan and the Jeo clan. It was one man against the whole of the Yeosan Songs, and–”
“Okay, that’s enough with the info dump,” Yeonjun interrupted, holding up a hand to stop Hueningkai from rambling on any longer. “I think we get the idea.”
“Right, right.” Hueningkai rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly.
“Wow, I see why knowledge on clans is useful to Queen Erajin,” Yeonjun said, staring at Hueningkai. “You’re like an information bank. If we give you any sort of reference, you start spewing out all the information you know which is even remotely related to the subject. How do you remember all this stuff?”
“I absorb information like a sponge. That’s what all my tutors told me.”
“Wait, why does Queen Erajin want information about our clans though?” Taehyun interjected. “That’s part of the alliance, isn’t it? She wants our knowledge on clans, and also our forests. Do you know why?”
“Nope,” Yeonjun said, popping the ‘p’. “She just told me to say that it was something confidential within our court. I don’t actually know what it is. She does weird stuff, I tell you. One of the missions I went on for her was to go steal some flowers from this Lord, and burn the rest of the flowers so they couldn’t grow again.” He shrugged. “I never questioned it. It was never my place to question it. But it was always clear that these missions would be of the utmost benefit to Aruyeo. So I just went along with it.”
Taehyun tutted disapprovingly. “You’re like an obedient dog, aren’t you?”
Yeonjun glared, drawing himself up to his full height. “Shush. I’m more of a wild fox, you squirrel.”
Taehyun gasped. “Squirrel? How dare you!”
“Both of you, shut it,” Hueningkai called. He ruffled Yeonjun’s hair affectionately. “As for you, tiny big bro, don’t make fun of anyone’s height while I’m around. It doesn’t look good.”
Yeonjun pushed Hueningkai’s hand away, glaring at him with little menace. “You’re lucky you’re cute. Otherwise I’d have smashed all the bones in your hand.”
Hueningkai gave a grin. “I would have broken your fingers before you’d be able to do it.”
“Okay so anyway,” Taehyun interjected. “What about the ability, then? Foreign exchange? How do I like… activate it?”
“Ah. That.” Hueningkai scratched his neck. “I’m not actually too sure. It’s not exactly heard of for someone not to be able to use their ability.” At Taehyun’s frowny face, he reached out and patted the vizier’s shoulder. “Hey, I’m sure there will be some logic to figuring it out though. But first, shall we get out of here?”
.・゜-: ✧ :-
“So why do you want to figure it out anyway? You already have the Jinju Kang ability, right? You’re literally famous for how well you can use it. Why do you need to know about the Jeo clan ability?” Hueningkai asked.
The three of them were sitting on the bed inside Yeonjun’s room, in a mini circle. Hueningkai had his hands clasped together, with a frown on his face.
“Well, it’s because it’s my true ability I suppose,” Taehyun responded. “I want to know what I can actually do myself.”
Hueningkai nodded thoughtfully. “That makes sense. But what doesn’t is the fact you don’t know how to use this ability.”
He placed his hands down on the mattress, waving them around for emphasis as he talked. “It should be an ability ingrained into you from birth,” he said. “I’m not sure how Gojongja works, but in Aruyeo they held tuition classes to help the kids learn how to control their abilities. Do you have something like that here?”
“All learning on abilities is done independently, I think,” Taehyun responded. “Like you said, knowledge on how to use your ability is ingrained into you from birth, so all the learning we needed to do was just to make it stronger.”
“How do you mean?” Yeonjun asked.
“Like, when I was five, I could only make the grass move. I couldn’t make anything grow. But as I grew older, and my ability grew stronger, I’d practice and practice to get to the stage I am right now.” He held up his hand and conjured a small daisy to prove his point. Letting it bloom for a moment, he folded his hand and crushed the flower. “Like that.”
Yeonjun nodded thoughtfully. “Seeing as Hueningkai couldn’t remember much about the Jeo clan in the beginning, it must be a pure Gojongja clan, meaning the ability works the same way most Gojongja abilities do.”
“Right, right,” Hueningkai agreed. “So that means, since you haven’t used it before, it’s weak.”
“Like that of a newborn baby’s,” Taehyun said.
Hueningkai nodded. “Exactly. But even babies have knowledge of how to use their ability, so I’m just thinking…” He reached out for Taehyun’s hand, the hand in which the vizier had conjured a flower. “Is your Jinju Kang ability interfering with your capability to perform the Jeo ability?” Gently, he traced the lines along Taehyun’s palm, leaving a glowing path where his fingers had been.
“What are you doing?” Taehyun asked, trying to take his hand out of Hueningkai’s grip.
“No, stay there,” Yeonjun said, holding Taehyun’s arm in place. “Matter manipulation, remember? He’s trying to see something.”
“Okay but it’s kind of stressing me,” Taehyun said, watching as more of his palm started to glow.
“It’s okay. Trust me, and relax,” Hueningkai said, not looking up from Taehyun’s hand. “You won’t feel a thing.”
Taehyun hummed, still a little sceptical, but kept his arm steady to allow Hueningkai to do whatever he needed to do. The young Aruyeonan continued to stare at Taehyun’s palm, tracing more glowing patterns across the skin. After a few minutes, Taehyun spoke again.
“Are you trying to see through my skin into my bones?”
“No,” Hueningkai responded. “I’m trying to see through your bones into your ability.” At Taehyun’s confused silence, he began to explain. “There’s no scientific way to explain this as such, but there are other types of matter. Other than the ones we all know about: solids, liquids, and gases, there seem to be others. I don’t know, maybe it’s just because of my ability that I can see them. They’ve never been found out before, so I’m not sure if they’re truly accessible. But anyway, I’m trying to make your skin transparent, and turn the rest of you into another type of matter, which is linked to the magic of our abilities.”
Yeonjun frowned. “So there’s this type of matter which takes the form of abilities?”
“Technically, yeah,” Hueningkai said. “So I’m trying to turn the solid and liquid of your hand into that state of matter.”
“How will that help?” Taehyun asked.
“I’ll be able to see your ability, and identify how you can use the Jeo ability.”
Taehyun gave a soft gasp as his hand unexpectedly turned warm, as if put above the steam of a pot of boiling water. His skin turned translucent, showing all his flesh and bones, before it melted into a strange, sparkly substance. He stared curiously at the substance which appeared to be within his own hand.
“Wow,” was all he was able to say. “That’s pretty.”
Hueningkai gave an amused chuckle, watching the sparkly stuff swirl lazily in Taehyun’s hand. “We are but beings carved from moonshine and stardust,” he said. “That’s what Sir Yoongi always said.” He looked up at Taehyun, and the vizier’s hand stopped glowing, gradually turning back to normal. “He was probably just joking, though.”
“So did you find out what’s wrong with Taehyun’s ability?” Yeonjun asked. “I mean, why he couldn’t use it?”
“Yeah, I have,” Hueningkai said, chuckling slightly. “Ah, I’m so dumb! It’s obvious! It’s because Taehyun’s never attempted to speak in a foreign language before!”
Taehyun blinked, before smiling. “Oh, you’re right. I’ve never had to, so I guess that’s why.”
“They never made you learn a foreign language?” Yeonjun asked curiously.
“They didn’t need to,” Hueningkai said. “They didn’t need to, since Taehyun is already a master at all languages, right? It’s any form of communication, as well! You could probably go talk to a dog now, and it’d understand you.”
“Does that mean I’ll be able to understand dogs too?” Taehyun asked.
“Yeah, but it’ll probably take practice. Remember, your ability is weak, so you need to gradually build it up. Though actually, that might not be the case,” Hueningkai said musingly. “You said your ability grows with your age, right?”
Taehyun nodded. “But it’ll still be weak, because it hasn’t been used before.”
“Ah right, okay.”
Just then, there was a knock at the door, and Hueningkai messily scrambled under the bed. Yeonjun chuckled, and stood up to see who was at the door.
“Um, hello? I heard that Sir Taehyun was meant to be here.” A nervous-looking young boy stood at the door, clutching lots of loose pieces of parchment.
“Yes, I am,” Taehyun said, getting up and walking over to the door. “Ah, these must be information about the Lords, correct?”
“Y– yes, sir. They are.”
“Thank you. I’ll take these, then.”
The boy handed the papers to Taehyun and bowed several times, before shooting off down the hallway. Yeonjun watched him scurry away, chuckling, before closing the door.
“The nervous ones are the most adorable. They act as if you’re going to bite their head off with one wrong move.” He peered over Taehyun’s shoulder as the vizier leafed through the papers. “You’re doing work already? Taehyun, you’ve only just recovered from being sick! Kai, tell him! Since you were literally practically technically almost poisoned , there really is no need for you to go back to work so soon, Taehyun. See here, concentrating for so long will hurt your head, and you might fall over like you did last time! And we don’t know if you’re fully recovered yet, ‘cause you might have relapses or something, which will definitely not be good for you–”
“These papers are long overdue,” Taehyun said, ignoring Yeonjun’s scoldings. “I asked for them about a week ago. Oh well. Better late than never, I suppose.”
“–and it’s not good for your eyes looking at that tiny writing! Hey, Taehyun. Are you listening to me?”
Taehyun walked past Yeonjun, sitting down cross-legged on the carpeted floor. “Hueningkai, you can get up now. The runner boy has gone now.” Hueningkai poked his head out from under the bed, and crawled out to sit next to Taehyun.
“Ooh. Why are you looking at the background info of various Lords?” he asked.
“I’m replacing council members,” Taehyun replied. “These are all potential candidates.”
“Wait, let me see,” Yeonjun said, reaching for a paper. “I might know some of them.”
“Me too,” Hueningkai added, taking another parchment from Taehyun’s pile. “I may not get out of Aruyeo much, but people do come to our court.”
The three of them silently looked through the papers, the two spies occasionally speaking up to let Taehyun know anything additional they knew about certain people.
“This guy was in our military for six years,” Hueningkai said. “I remember him! He’s so handsome as well.”
“Don’t date a soldier,” Yeonjun reprimanded. “They make bad boyfriends.”
“Like spies are any better,” Hueningkai said. “Anyway, I’m just saying. He used to be in the military, so he’s probably good.”
“Speaking of the military, how is everything going with the riot? How has employing the military fared?” Yeonjun asked.
“Oh, didn’t I tell you?” Taehyun smiled, putting down the parchment he’d been looking at. “It was successful! The soldiers retreated the day Beomgyu left, and no one was hurt.”
“That’s good.” A thought struck Hueningkai. “But if it would be that easy, why would they have rebelled?”
“Right? I didn’t understand that. But apparently loads of the soldiers overheard the citizens talking, and it sounded like they had been under a spell,” Taehyun said. He shrugged. “I dunno. There aren't any Lords who are spell-casters, at least according to my knowledge, so I’m not sure. They could have been threatened, but even that is unlikely.”
Yeonjun frowned. "When did you have time to hear that? You were still bedridden the day Beomgyu left!”
“It must have been when you went to your chambers to change clothes,” Hueningkai said, narrowing his eyes playfully. “That’s why you took three hours!”
Taehyun held his hands up in mock surrender. “Fine, fine. You caught me! But I can’t stay away from work for too long. So starting tomorrow, I’ll be resuming my duties as a vizier again. Full-time.”
Yeonjun sighed. “So that means tonight is your last night sleeping here, isn’t it?”
“Yep.”
Hueningkai gasped, clapping his hands excitedly. “Then why don’t we all sleep in the bed?”
“What, together?” Taehyun said. “I don’t think–”
“Yes! Hueningkai, you’re a genius!” Yeonjun cheered. When Taehyun tried to protest, he picked up the vizier by the legs and flung him over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes, before plopping him onto the bed, promptly diving onto the mattress next to him. “Come on, Kai!”
“Hey!” Taehyun flailed around for a pillow, and began hitting Yeonjun fervently. In retaliation, Yeonjun also picked up a cushion, hitting Taehyun with equal vigor. Suddenly, a huge bolster pillow hit both of their heads, almost knocking them over. They both paused, turning to slowly look at the offender. Hueningkai blinked, giggling nervously. Within a matter of seconds, Hueningkai was getting beaten up by two pillows, feathers flying everywhere.
The three of them ended up passed out on the bed, surrounded by destroyed pillows and piles of feathers, a tangled mess of limbs. In the morning, they’d have to deal with the white, fluffy mess they’d made, but for now, they were calm and content, far away in dreamland.
