She hears her taunting giggle and sees her twin’s knowing smirk. I told you so. Nothing could ever bring more joy to her evil doppelganger than proving that she was right.)

i have so many thoughts about post-canon patpran and one of them is do the high school friends ever find out about the two of them and how do they react?

another high school reunion 10 years later, i'm assuming they're married by now and their parents have had to come around: do they arrive together with rings on their fingers? shocking their friends from the get go?

or do they arrive separately like last time, their friends joking about the enemy arriving? maybe the two of them share smiles, so pat’s old friends are like glad you’ve grown up and put it behind you. maybe now that they’re all mid-30s they talk about spouses and pat’s ring begs questions but he waves them off with “it’s a ~secret~” only to have his friends be flabbergasted when halfway through the night pran and pat are found laughing together, wearing matching rings?

The Cafe For All/Cafe of Diversity

When I think of pride flags and displays of (diverse) queerness in BLs, I think of Not Me and tangentially Badhaai Do because of their giant pride flag scenes which included protests, joy/euphoria, fighting for rights, celebration, and were just momentous occasions. I loved those scenes.

What I love about The Cafe for All is how it's not as euphoric nor rare, I love the cafe with its casual display of queerness and community, just a space for queer people to safely exist and be themselves. You can spend time with your friends there, you can invite people into your little world there, you can divulge your struggles to your mom there and you can spy on your friends/frenemies there. You can be assured that you are not alone there.

*FOR ALL MANKIND SPOILERS*

I thought Larry was gonna do something right for once BUT HE COULDNT DO IT. Then Ellen stepped in and was like “ILL SHOW YOU HOW ITS DONE LAR”. I’m so happy for her, I mean I know she’s gonna be going through a lot of backlash but I hope the shitstorm ends with her and Pam OR ANYONE AT THIS POINT I JUST WANT ELLEN TO BE HAPPY 😭😭😭

ALSO THAT ENDING!!!! 🫠🫠🫠

Awww, I do actually give credit to Larry for deciding to do it in the first place, and if Ellen hadn't walked in like a badass, I think he'd have been able to stumble through it. So, I think I'm in a better place with him.

AND GOSH! I knew Ellen'd do it this season but it was still so cool to watch. At first I was just taking in that it was happening at all, and Margo and Pam's reactions, and how Will specifically was mentioned, and his reaction after. I warmed so much to the Helios + NASA crew around him in that moment. FAM's always been so good with those scenes, like mission control after a daring rescue, and it's kinda lovely that they treated this as a similar climactic emotional payoff.

On rewatch though... Well, y'all know how I feel about people being treated like they're liars and in the wrong for being closeted. I get that this is an extremely complex situation because she did lie in actually significant ways and did indeed do wrong with DADT and Will Tyler, but the other part of me was like, screw the armed forces and the American people, you were right to distrust them, they should be apologizing to you! And the situation with Pam is so much more complicated than just refusing to come out.

But I don't feel those objections toooo strongly, they were just kinda in the back of my head and I didn't want to put them in the tags of my gifset, lol. Ultimately I'm quite pleased.

And indeed, quite interested to see what happens now, considering she's still president. Executive order everything, President Waverly! And I mean, if the season doesn't end with her and Pam together now, I'm really gonna be crying foul. This is one of those times I really wish we didn't get side character love interests because I'd have loved to see more of what was happening around Pam, a whole group of queer friends, and what the reaction this would have been in those circles.

At the end of the ep, lol, I have to laugh. That kinda thing seems as silly as Kelly's pregnancy. Just like it really stretches our credulity to believe that grown adults didn't realize what could happen if they had sex and it wasn't already drilled in them not to and everyone else wouldn't have stopped them and NASA wouldn't have fitted them with fancy alt reality birth control, we're supposed to believe this country with no resources was able to get a whole alive astronaut to Mars, okay. Or maybe I'm just salty that Dani wasn't the first on Mars, haha. I guess I'll wait to see what happens now.

Saying 'I Love You' never felt so good

McDanno meta. Season 4 meta.

Okay, I'm here again because I couldn't put these thoughts in my previous meta!

I need to scream about the foreshadow and subtext of the Beautiful first, real, I Love You in the show, episode 4x18.

Let's start

After choosing you

Okay, I said in my previous meta Danny chooses Steve and Grace instead Gaby.

But, before that happens, we had a conversation between Steve and Danny at the beginning of the season 4.

Remember when they were hostages of terrorist that belonged to a drugs cartel in the Palace? There was a wounded person and Steve was kneeling by his side, and Danny came and said he was about to say the three words to Gaby? Remember Steve's reaction to that?

I had to ask for help to my friend @mrsaquaman187 , I don't have the gifs but I do remember when Danny started saying it, Steve closed his eyes and scratched his left eyebrow.

This is sign of uncomfortable, and nervousness.

Why he reacted like that? Oh well, just because he knows Danny said 'I love you' to him in their first date, and then he began to date Gaby, so... That wasn't serious for sure, and he thinks he is gonna do the same to her. So... Steve gave an advice, he said Danny needed to know well if he was about to say those words, because is a big deal.

We know Danny didn't say it to Gaby, but to someone else...

Then we have Amber... But she is not the one

Okay, pay attention to this... Because the episode in which Amber appears, starts with this scene...

Grace says this after Danno confess she's the number one in his list.

And look at what she says, NUMBER TWO ISN'T EVEN CLOSE.

Because when Danny meets Amber, Amber says they're neighbors, because Danny is from Jersey and she's from New York.

So, the second one in Danny's list IS NOT CLOSE TO DANNY. Is not Amber. (Even if I love her, because she's badass and fabulous).

The writers made it wilders, because we will have Steve talking to Grover, saying Danny is IN THE NORTH COAST, WHICH MEANS, HE IS NOT CLOSE TO HIM, DANNY IS FAR AWAY FROM STEVE, AND VICEVERSA, SO, STEVE IS SETTLED HERE AS DANNY SECOND IMPORTANT PERSON IN HIS LIST.

Then we have Danny doubting if he should give this cute woman a chance, because, okay, he's not getting enough attention from his Seal and Gaby is gone. He decides to give it a shot.

Jealousy and Acceptance

Okay, what I'm about to say here is very sad.

When Danny arrives to Steve's house, he asked for Amber, and Danny had this sad expression in his face, but then Steve said Danny was perked up, and Danny mocks saying he doesn't perk up. And there's this exchange of looks, and Danny is smiling, but he's hiding what he is feeling right now. And then... This... (Thanks Trisha)

Fine, we have Danny naming situations, these situations are the same that brought Danny and Steve to work together and then to become great partners and best friend's, so, the face is screaming jealousy, but also, sadness. Because Danny is saying here YOU ARE SO KIND WITH YOUR NEW FRIEND, PEOPLE WILL THINK YOU TWO LIKE EACH OTHE.

And this, my friends, is huge!!!!

Danny is recriminating Steve about the way he treated him when they first met, and they way they flirted, and all those golden days full of dates and silliness, PEOPLE THOUGHT WE LIKED EACH OTHER. So, he is saying YOU CONFUSED ME, I THOUGHT WE HAD SOMETHING THERE. And his face is full of sadness and longing.

Danny sees Steve being kind with Grover, and getting close to him, and he is Jealous, and he knows Steve is like this with everyone.

But this one, Danny is sad, and jealous, and disappointed, he is mourning that time when they were something else than friends.

Then Steve's tunes around and Danny face is pure longing. Is amazing, the performance is perfect, and you can read it all over his face and his eyes. His longing for Steve. For those days in which people thought they liked each other.

The I love you, and how Danny perked up after that

Episode 4x19 in which Danny and Steve were trapped when that building crashed, it was very pivotal in the show.

First of all, because Steve attention was again focused on Danny.

Steve thought Danny had died, so when he hears his voice, he runs to him, and holds his hand, with the biggest smile, showing his happiness and relief.

Steve was practically taking care of him, offering him water and trying to take care of the wound. In the middle of the horrible situation, they were bonding again.

Then... When Steve was about to explode that bomb to get them out from there, Danny tried to deliver a message to him, thinking that could be their last hours. But he couldn't, so he said it like a joke, because joking I their defense mechanism to say how they really feel for each other, is their safe place.

So this happened... Danny says, playing around, that he hates Steve, and Steve got the message, he turns around to the bomb, and says I LOVE YOU TOO, BUDDY.

His body language here was showing honesty, but at the same time, he said it natural.

But for Danny, it meant A LOT. Because Steve said before YOU SHOULD BE SURE TO SAY IT, BECAUSE IT CAN'T BE UNSAID.

And this scene showed us it meant more to Danny that to Steve in that moment.

Danny looks away, rants, makes circles about the idea he wants to express, because he feels embarrassed. But Steve, Steve is trying to recall what is Danny talking about.

Steve waits... "Come one, you are gonna make me say it?" Steve keeps waiting for him, because he already recalled what Danny is talking about.

The it comes, "I lOVE YOU."

In this moment of the season, it meant a lot to Danny, more than it meant to Steve, because Danny is the one pining for him. Steve is focused on Cath and his problems.

This entire Sun and Moon story will keep going until something huge will happen: THE LIVER TRANSPLANT.

There's a huge change attitude in Danny after 4x19, in 4x20 Danny mocks Steve (with a wink to the mcdanno shipper in their anniversary) but he mocks him about Cath, saying she wants to be away from him. Steve remains speechless for a moment, this is the old Danny there, the Danny that just perked up after a love confession, and is happy, and when Danny is happy, he flirts and plays around with Steve. After this Danny describes Steve like a black cloud that never goes away. Again using the joke to express how he feels about Steve. Their girlfriends are far away from them, but Steve is always there, by his side. Is like if Danny were saying "YOU DON'T WANT TO BE AWAY FROM ME", pointing at the previous joke he made about Cath and Steve.

Then, the I Love You comes again, freely, and comfortable.

There's another HUGE example of Danny playing around with Steve, this time trying to make him jealous, and enjoying his face with please, when he decides to bet for Lou, instead Steve.

It says everything, Danny is so happy they're back in the game, he is enjoying Steve reaction with such a heart eyes on his boy. He loves him, deeply, and he enjoys to play around with him like this. Is definitely an attitude a lover would take just to watch a pretty mad/jealous face.

Infinitely priceless.

The season ends with Steve saying I LOVE YOU, with romantic meaning to Catherine, pointing us the love triangle, and the current unrequited love in wich Danny is pining for Steve, but at this moment, he is in order be with Catherine.

This was the I LOVE YOU season. Check this post from @five-wow , they also picked up the same analogy to show how important these three words were in season 4.

To Conclude:

Season 4 was the one in which Danny was planning ning for Steve, he even chooses him and Grace instead Gaby. He finds a new love interest, but he doubts I'm initiate something with her at first, because his feelings for Steve, which are unrequited in this season.

The story of the Sun and the Moon, two lovers separated by the day and the night, will end at the end of season 6, when Steve and Danny lives will connect again into a deeper meaning.

Maybe you can help me because I'm confused, but avoiding the tag for obvious reasons. I got really confused by what Ye Baiyi was talking about in that scene alone with the sword, but I don't know if it was explained before and I forgot, it wasn't explained, or will be explained. Any clue or have you seen something about it somewhere? Thanks. :D

ahhhhhhh finally answering this and omg thank you so much?!?!?!?!! o(TヘTo) I’m not sure if you’ve watched all the way up to the end yet so I’ll still put it below a cut! basically a little into ye baiyi’s past

I’m gonna take it that you’re referring to this particular scene in episode 32

he’s talking to rong changqing, the father of rong xuan!

ye baiyi and rong xuan were very very close friends. in the show, changqing founded the ghost valley for evildoers to turn over a new leaf, and he ended up trying to master the six combination genuine qi (that evil skill that wkx helps zzh to use in episode 36) so that he could control these whole bunch of ghosts. but of course things didn’t go exactly as planned and while his intentions were good, he ended up... 走火入魔 (it’s a really common concept in wuxia that I don’t really know how to explain this in english, there’s even a wiki page here lol).

anyway so in that particular scene, in the aftermath of wkx seemingly falling to his death (which we now know was a whole ass scheme that yby himself was all along in the know of ↼_↼), yby is lamenting how much death and destruction the ghost valley has brought, and lamenting how his friend changqing just had to so damned ambitious and kind (”are you a bodhisattva??” “you are a mere mortal, why are you worried for heaven??” very rough translations of what yby says) to want to save the evildoers, which caused him to go down the dark path himself and in the long run create the evil ghost valley. 

but past that scene with the sword, tbh I haven’t really figured out much of what happened between yby and changqing. or at least, the show didn’t say explicitly what the events of their relationship were, or maybe I just missed it lol. in episode 36, yby hints that changqing was the one who willingly sacrificed himself to pass the six combination genuine qi skill to yby, which is why yby has lived for so long in the cold mountain. but I’m not sure when changqing died, whether he died from the act of transferring the skill itself, or whether he was immortal together with yby (this one I doubt so bc of yby’s voiceover of what the skill is about in the very last scene of 36... but then how can wen kexing in the special episode be explained then). 

VERSUS in the book where changqing is a normal dude who wanted to master the six combination skill out of personal ambition (and not to control the ghost valley like in shan he ling), but same outline: things didn’t go as planned, he 走火入魔-ed, yby (his childhood friend) saved his ass by transferring changqing’s spiritual energy over to himself, and the six combination skill together with it - he expected himself to be negatively affected (or even die) because of it. but in yby’s case, he didn’t 走火入魔 and ended up absorbing it instead, becoming an immortal. 

the rest of their history in the book is pretty similar to the show. yby, changqing, and changqing’s wife stayed together on the mountain and raised changqing’s son, rong xuan, who later grew ambitious himself and wanted to gather the martial skills and secrets of the jianghu and collect them together, thus starting the whole glazed armour thing. 

anyway! that was a very long rambling somewhat spoilery answer but I hope it makes sense alsklkdf m(_ _;m) I really got the feeling from book yby and changqing that yby...... had feelings for changqing??? I really wish they’d gone more into detail on yby’s past (maaann was I looking forward to yby angst) bc it’s a whole lot of pain in itself but I guess I had to make do watching yby slowly age before our eyes and his sad wistful old man quotes ;u;

well i didn't know you shipped parkerita i actually only found your blog through a gifset you made involving jordan/maggie so i wasn't sure if maybe you liked them as more than a friendship. the thing with parkerita and parker is that as an og charmed fan and a fan of phole and of cole turner i can see the writers were trying to emulate them and it doesn't sit right with me

with jordan and maggie, i’m enjoying their friendship right now. i am a multi-shipper, so if i happen to enjoy how their relationship is developed into something more, i’d be down. as an og charmed fan myself though, i was never a fan of cole, or his relationship with phoebe. so the only similarities to me between phole and parkerita are the witch/demon specs. so, i don’t agree with you there.

the romance they’re setting up between macy and harry feels a lot more organic and it’s not at all a piper/leo 2.0. with parkerita they straight up admitted to trying to emulate a romance of the original show that was iconic and if they’re actually modelling parker after cole than i’m sorry but they’re insulting the character and julian mcmahon’s work while they’re at it because cole was always a layered, complex antagonist and love interest

i don’t agree about hacy feeling organic at all. if anything, to me, it feels forced during this season 2 story line. in season 1, we had them building up to it, they had their cute moments. so i could see why people shipped them as more than friends. i personally never did though. i always saw harry as a big brother to the charmed ones. he took care of them, but was a goof when it came to their human ways. it was funny, and cute with all the sisters. and now, i just feel like hacy is taking up way too much screen time away from the sisters, but also putting macy in this negative space i don’t want her in. again, i don’t agree about cole, and i love parker. i felt like cole took way too much time away from the charmed ones, and put phoebe in this negative i didn’t want her in. funny how that’s happening now with hacy to me.

that’s not me saying parker caine is completely one dimensional but he is also less complex and i hate that they made his main motivation for goodness to be maggie. in the og show cole wanted to be good both to be worthy of phoebe and the love she had for him and for himself. he realized how vile and evil he had been, recognized the humanity that he still had and fought for multiple seasons with himself to be good. that’s more compelling to me than parker ridding himself of evil for a woman

i personally find parker more complex and enjoyed his internal struggle with his demon side in season 1. i’m not really sure how i feel about him in season 2 yet, i’ll wait till we get more to make up my mind on that. knowing he’s struggled with his demon side though, i understand why it took someone else to give him the motivation to be good. it was the push he needed, and i don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing story line wise. also wow, we really see cole differently. i always found him to be so selfish.

and as far as romance in the new charmed is involved, everyone save for macy is getting screwed over honestly. i’m more concerned with the way mel is jumping between fleeting love interests and both serious relationships she’s been with have ended abruptly and with both women she cared for vanishing into thin air. like why have a queer woman front and center and treat her this way? why so much focus on het ships?

i think they’re all being screwed over, including macy, when it comes to romance. like, i’m personally enjoying her moments with julian right now, because it feels natural with them. she feels more natural and happy around him. she’s found someone who speaks her language, and it’s just beautifully sad because galvin was that person for her. i shipped her with galvin, by the way. i just don’t trust the writers when it comes to macy’s happiness, or julian, so i’m setting myself up for disappointment, and i know it. when it comes to mel though, romance wise, i feel like because she had two big love interests in season 1, and then they dropped that in season 2, i feel like the writers don’t know what to give her in the romance department now. it’s more than that though because with mel, it feels like they’re falling flat on giving her more of anything. she kinda feels like she’s just tagging along in the show. but again that’s why my major disappointment with season 2 is the lack of charmed ones, and their moments together. she deserves so much better as a main character, plot wise, and romance wise. i do agree on the too much focus on het ships. i want more charmed ones and less romance in general. not have it completely taken away, but the charmed ones should come first, and then each of their personal love lives.

lastly (and i know it’s a lot of messages i just wanted to explain my stance more in depth i guess, and i hope it doesn’t come across like saying i’m right and you’re wrong, those are only my opinions as someone who dearly loved the original charmed and its characters and also enjoys the reboot but takes some issue with the way they take “inspiration” from the orginal at times) but i think it’s telling that people hate/disagree with abigael and her methods but would love them if she was a man

you’re always welcome to leave me a lot of messages, i don’t mind them. i understand wanting to make sure your point was gotten right. we’re not gonna agree 100% about a show and that’s okay. as long as we’re civil, and can agree to disagree. also, i’ve loved abigael since her introduction. me being tired of her still having parker locked up is about my love for the parker character. it doesn’t make me hate her in anyway. i like her arc about wanting to be the overlord and trying to prove herself. honestly, my only dig at abigael, and it’s more to the writers again, it’s her involvement with harry/hacy. i already don’t enjoy hacy, but the drama with involving abigael is again taking up too much screen time from the sisters. that whole mess is just annoying and boring to me. i want harry to go back to being the big brother of the charmed ones, involved in helping them save people, not coming between any girls, or taking up the sisters screen time with relationship drama. i just don’t like it.
