The Bount Arc features many things and one of them is a rare glimpse of a place I had previously assumed didn't even exist: The Squad 11 Captain's Office.

As I said, I generally refuse to believe that Zaraki maintains any sort of "administrative space"--I think Yumichika does all the squad paperwork on a Formica, diner-style table that somehow died and got sent to Soul Society in the "officer's lounge", which has orange shag carpeting and smells mysteriously like Miller High Life (the Champagne of Beers).

Even so, this place is beyond my wildest imaginings. The pink walls? The elegant, arcing windows, spilling natural light into the room? It's hard to tell from this shot, but the chairs are purple:

The couches look oddly like the Squad 6 couches, but they are not--the Squad 6 couches are wingbacks and don't have that wooden frame along the back and sides, and they have legs so they are up off the floor. Also, Zaraki has a very similar mysterious paperwork tray-table to the one Ginrei had in the Zanpakutou Rebellion arc. Zaraki's seems taller. Also, why is there actual paperwork on it???

I can only come up with two possible explanations for this:

Squad 11 has a Captain's Office, but Zaraki never uses it, so he let Yachiru make all the decor decisions. This would explain the pink walls, and we know she likes Byakuya's house, so maybe she cribbed the rest from him. Possibly even stole the furniture out of the dumpster the last time Squad 6 redecorated (which I assume happens, like, twice yearly)

This isn't even their office. They're just squatting in Byakuya's digs while he's out running around in Rukongai.

Update!!: A few episodes later, they were still sitting here (over the same time period that Renji, Matsumoto and Hitsugaya ran from the Seireitei to Kusajishi, for the record) and it was identified as Squad 11, so I guess option 1 is the winner!

I went with the gang from The Present is a Gift for this, and Twig hijacked the intended theme of warm-and-fuzzy holiday feelings and turned it into having hope for the future, even if you miss the past, because you have your loved ones to support you. Hope that's alright; she really wouldn't cooperate during the scripting process until I went with it.

To keep this comic easy to scroll past for the uninterested, I've put the last 9 pages under the cut! I'm trying to be more considerate of those who are going through my blog, haha.

This takes place after the events of The Present is a Gift, where everyone has mostly settled into having Ark in their group.

my head hurts from crying for the past twenty minutes but it's not because of pain. i don't think i will ever be coherent enough to properly explain my feelings but to me this scene wasn't heartbreaking. it was hope and love in their purest form. hope because day's life doesn't end when his eyesight is gone: day is no longer angry because he has learned that he can still experience the world and live a happy life and find meaning in both. love because mork, who could no more save his sister's life than stop day from losing his sight, is being held in the hands of the man he loves and being told 'someone like you is enough': enough to be day's last twilight, last picture, last love. of course there was loss in it, but so much beauty too. these two men who used to be invisible and alone and locked away in the darkness found each other, chose each other, and stepped into the light, together. and that's where they will always be from now on: in each other's light, where they'll never fade away again

i laughed really hard at so many moments in watching and dreaming but i think my FAVORITE was when luz was like "it'll be so nice to see them again..... 🥺 after all this time...... 😔😢☹️" and camila's like "mija 😒 you saw them last week 🤨" FIDJDJJDBDBDB the toh writers were like "FUCK every story where the found family breaks up at ALL at the end. these kids have been cuddle puddling with movies at least once a week for five straight years and theres NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT"

it’s actually so horrible coming out of a ghibli movie pulling at your heartstrings as an artist because. i can’t touch it. i cannot redraw panels or paint the landscapes because the films art and feeling is just so indescribable and i could never ever do it justice. it’s so wonderfully perfect as is and it’s so frustrating. i can feel this feeling of warmth and love in these movies but it simply cannot be replicated and i hate it and i love it all at once
