I'll admit that while this season has been pretty much hit after hit, the only weakness about series 14 is that 8 episodes is too short. I think it needed more episodes. actually, I think doctor who needs 35 episodes per season and I think some of the episodes should be so shitty it almost seems on purpose

I'm hoping episode 3 let's Ruby see the dark side of the Doctor. I feel that adds a very important dynamic to a Doctor-companion relationship, when they see how dark he can be and still choose to travel with him early on.

Rose watching Nine drag Cassandra back to die. Eleven yelling at Amy "Nobody human has anything to say to me today!" Donna begging Ten to stop drowning the spider babies, and then again to go back and save someone in Pompeii.

Fifteen has been FUN and I know he can do emotional range, I've seen his fear and his tears already. But I want to see him dark, and I want to see Ruby respond to that. I think it would add a LOT of depth to their relationship and is something missing.

Plus showcasing the Doctor's flaws (selfishness) will make him a much more interesting character. I want to see some conflict between the Doctor and Ruby.

you know, i kind of wonder if ruby, having grown up with a Black mother and grandmother (and foster siblings??), might have picked up on the racism before the doctor did. cause like, the doctor has been white for, in their perspective, their entire life (what with their memories of being the timeless child and ruth!doctor having been wiped, and i think it's reasonable to assume this is still very very early days for 15). whereas, ruby probably had to have at some point as a child picked up on the fact that people were treating her differently from her family, right?

come to think of it — is ruby actually aware that the doctor didn't realize until the end? like — she doesn't still know about regeneration yet, right? cause if she doesn't, then it would make sense for her to have assumed that 15 did pick up on the microaggressions and just wanted to save these people even with that knowledge. really adds another layer to why this sucks for him

the switch from worry for sam to appealing.. oh he knows how to fuck him up so perfectly tailored for him

#sam was vulnerable and knowing dean loves him so he doesn't want the demon thing could have cut things a lil more short than #sam knowing dean hates him which leads him to be borderline destructive while the former keeps him grounded #but to give dean his dues he did try every single tactic in the book to try to stop sam: forcing reasoning rationalizing #finding middle ground locking up threatening bargaining pleading #he was on a roller-coaster #we're witnessing the blueprint in swaying sam im seated #ruby should've stuck around to watch how a real sam master manipulator operates #he has sam so wrapped round his finger he told sam he'll kill him (faked voice note) and still managed to have sam choose him over ruby #who coddled up and manipulated sam to hell and back #the genuine concern about sam here is astonishing in how effective it is #violence (panic room) didn't work #so dean resorts to appealing to sam and whether this is authentic or dean's own brand of manipulation that I know he occasionally works up #it's still the most effective method so far. I feel like dean could genuinely have gotten through to sam #if he was just himself and poured his heart out wrt sam since early on but dean most of the time was too prideful to concede #it was an 'im protective and im worried about you' issue (this is half of the actual reason the other half is his own possessiveness)#rather than a 'morality/humanity descend' issue and appealing to angels and god to play on sam's faith.#once again dean tries several mental gymnastics to get his point across when #if he was straightforward it could've worked on sam from the get go because he himself carries weight to sam like no other #samdean #mine #spn meta in tags #sam winchester #dean winchester

no but guys we've all been talking about how open Fifteen is but what if it's just his way of diverting the focus from Ruby and her unknown parentage and his suspicions towards her to himself so she doesn't get sus till he finds out

Like in series 7b we saw Eleven be overly paranoid with Clara, which made her distrustful of him as well and led to quite a few problems- maybe he learned from that and decided to be more discreet and appear to be less closed off by just telling her other things

And that combined with him moving on from Gallifrey probably spawned the info dump
