i find this concept of “winning” so funny cause its a book series. Like yeah I realize that how the author views her own character is different than mine so hes probably not going to get treated the way i want him too but that doesn’t mean anything. Genuinely what happens in that series is so inconsequential to me cause no matter what I like tamlins character and find him interesting, theres no way to ‘lose’ 😭 Ill just make fun of canon and live my best life yapping about the characters i like and dislike !!

saw this anti-tamlin post and it struck me just how tragic tamlin's character is. is he truly so evil that he deserves to die? with no friends, no family, no dignity? literally nothing? sjm failed to make me hate him. all I feel for him is pity and sympathy. he made some mistakes, yes, but enough to deserve death? I don't even see people hate on the actual villains this hard.

Three Sisters: The Beacons of Change

Been a minute since I yapped on the internet and I’m bored on a long layover so here we go! A few housekeeping items before we dig in:

This post is pro Nesta, Feyre, and Elain. I love them all.

Some of the discourse involves pro-Elriel ramblings. This post is largely about Elain herself, so I’ll be including her general tag in this post, but wanted to make note of the Elriel discourse in case that isn’t your cuppa.

A huge shoutout to @jasmineandcedar and @nikachansstuff for the inspiration on this post. Their post/comment largely inspired this.

My thoughts are never coherent and all of this is just my opinion. Also I didn't edit this whatsoever lmao.

One interesting theme I picked up on within the ACOTAR series is change. More specifically, inciting change on not only a personal level, but also on the societal level. And I’m of the mind that each sister is meant to spark some sort of change, both within themselves as they get their healing arc, but also within the greater Prythian society as they come into power.

Let’s start with Feyre darling.

The First High Lady

Before Feyre came to Prythian, before her story, there were no High Ladies. Or at least the history of them were lost to society as we learned in the CC3 series. Females were not welcome to the role of 'High Lady'. They were not equals to the High Lords, even as their mates.

But with Feyre’s rebirth, with her sacrifice as the Curse Breaker, she rose to power in a way that changed fae society. She was the first High Lady. And we can see that this change spread with Viviane becoming the High Lady of Winter.

Feyre, as a monarch, represents ruling power. The power to command. She is the Crown. And with her character arc she brought change to Prythian in that she opened the door for other High Ladies to take their thrones. She challenged the misogynic lens on which Prythian viewed political leaders and proved that women can have their own political power.

The Valkyrie Reborn

Before Nesta, before her being Made, the Valkyries were lost to the world. The systems in place, largely those in Illyria as we saw in the forefront of her novel, believed women couldn’t be warriors. That they were lesser, weaker.

But with Nesta’s healing, and the revival of the Valkyries alongside Emerie and Gwyn, she challenged this. A challenge that was overcome in the Blood Rite.

With Nesta, she proved that women can have physical power. That they can be warriors. She brought about the rebirth of the Valkyries: an all female army. She challenged yet another societal (and misogynistic) standard within Prythian.

The Bondbreaker

Like her sisters, I think Elain Archeron will also challenge an aspect of Prythian society. But the way she changes society and challenges it will be different than that of her sister's. Like Elain's personality, I believe her own defiance will be softer. Rooted in the heart and emotions.

But damn will it be a choice that radiates through the narrative.

As it stands in Prythian, mating bonds are sacred. Holy. They’re something not to be questioned, no matter what. As we learn from Rhys, some mates aren’t even true matches in spirit, but the bond is regarded so highly that females accept it any way, despite what they want for themselves for their lives. For their hearts.

Tamlin's parents and Rhysand's own mother and father are excellent examples of mated pairs who aren't "true pairings of souls". And I'd argue that SJM introduced these pairings to the narrative as a way to hold a mirror up to Elain's own mating bond.

I believe Elain will challenge this societal standard by rejecting her mating bond. Autonomy and freewill is a huge theme with her character and rejecting the bond would be the culmination of this. More of my yapping on this can be found here.

Elain's choice would also be a sign to other females with unwanted bonds that they too have a choice. That the bonds don’t always know best. That perhaps the Cauldron doesn't always know best. Elain’s rejection of the bond would spark change in Prythian, just like her sister’s arcs sparked change.

Note: Yapped a bit about the lore drops in CC3 and the implications of it in my post here. I personally believe there's two forces warring in the Cauldron (the Mother v. the Asteri's corruption) and believe it raises some interesting implications...

The TLDR: Each Sister is a Beacon of Change

Feyre, the monarch, challenged the system surrounding females in positions in power. With her, the role of High Ladies was reborn and the stigma in Prythian surrounding female leaders was fought.

Nesta, the warrior, challenged existing systems surrounding the strength and validity of female warriors. Through her, the Valkyries were reborn.

With Elain, I theorize that she'll lead a quieter rebellion. But one long overdue. She'll challenge the issue of fate, of the Cauldron's eddies and the Mother's will, over the heart. She'll challenge the heart. The bond. And stand in defiance of it.

i'd love to write every day, even something really small. i'd also love to work on my original novels!! basically just have fun and keep developing my writers voice

What are some of your tips for fanfic writing?

brain dump! open up a doc and just dump all your ideas for a story. personally, i also LOVE making some graphics/moodboards for my stories. it helps me a lot with getting a feel of what i want the story to be focused around and making sure my characterization makes sense and is specific

this is such a weird thing too but if im having a hard time writing, i like to imagine specific random scenarios and think of/write how different characters would respond. sometimes it leads to such fun little drafts and it makes me more confident in how i write the characters/their actions/narrations/dialogue

& find people!! make friends!! i cannot stress how much having people to talk to about your wips can help with the writing process/inspo. its so fun to have someone be as excited about your work as you are, esp if you're losing inspo. like @itsswritten inspired so many of my works to be completed, @writingcroissant singlehandedly saved malice from being scrapped and yapping with @wolves-and-whiskey helped me stay inspired, one summer was actually written bc of @milswrites and wasn't abandoned bc of @micahssketchbook

this is a bit difficult bc i started this account almost a whole year ago, but id say its a tie between Death and His Reaper, When The Heart is Still Longing, and my An Education in Malice Series--- I'm still so impressed that I've written over 50k words for malice.

Holy fucking shit dude. I just finished reading your phobophobia fic series and it was absolutely jaw dropping. The way you write in general is amazing, but your usage of words, the way you write reader, the way this reads like a whole fucking book, the foreshadowing (get it.), the plot twists... everything, it was perfect. This like- genuinely changed my life and is now in my top five favorite works of written creative media. This also hit so hard because I've also recently went through something traumatic where I started doubting my mind and memory and I felt reader when she was upset about that, I was having the same thoughts. This story was absolutely phenomenal. Im planning on going thru all the chapters and reblogging them all, I was too busy craving the next chapter to interact 😭 but this seriously deserve SO MUCH MORE ATTENTION. SO MUCH. I've been craving and an angsty, lengthy, logan x reader fic since August, when I got into his character. This was everything I wanted and more. You slayed the fucking boots down.

BUT, thank you so much!!!!! i did some research after reading this ask and found out that Phobophobia is longer than the original ACOTAR books (each book, not altogether) which is WILD to think about, it did not feel that long when i was writing it. so congrats those who stuck with it and read the whole thing, you've just read the equivalent of an over-average wordcount novel 👏 average novel wordcount is between 70k to 100k and Phobophobia, not including the oneshot, was 146k... GOOD JOB TEAM <3

i think one of the most gratifying parts of writing fics and posting them is to almost keep a chronological log of how writers have improved over time. comparing Phobophobia to like, my first ever fic (on a different blog) is so crazy. im so blown away by the reception to the fic as well, and so honoured to be in your top five, FIVE, favourite pieces of written creative media. i. am. 6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Sooo none of them are finished haha I simply yap too much to do something short/ a one-shot.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? So I guess that depends on if you consider a "complete" ending happy. For ACOSAR, I intend to write out how I want the entirety of the ACOTAR series to end. But with ACOAAS, it's mainly relegated to Az's mating bond, but with political intrigue and a sort of marriage-of-convenience trope. In simplest terms, the ending I have planned for ACOSAR is probably the happiest by default since EVERYTHING gets resolved.

8. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yes, but not often. I'm such a slow burn girly that I can't get into writing smut unless characters are sort of "ready" for that in the stage of their relationship. Like I absolutely started some Solriel smut because they're VERY close to approaching a relationship. Azrina on the other hand is...going through it lol.

9. Do you write crossovers? Yes! ACOSAR is a Critical Role/The Legend of Vox Machina crossover.

10. Have you ever had a fic translated? Not that anyone's told me!

11. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Omg no but it sounds fun!

12. What is your all-time favorite ship? Ooh. It's Solriel, ngl. They're easily the best, most compatible, dynamic and sympathetic couple I've ever written. And the crazy part is I didn't even write Solara to be with Az. She was my PC in a D&D Campaing that ran for two years, and I only discovered ACOTAR at the tail end of it.

13. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? My Naruto fic lol. I wanted to rewrite the series during the pandemic and it was a great idea then, when we all had to stay home.

14. What are your writing strengths? Dialogue, character building, introspection. I can write realistic dialogue like it's nothing, and getting inside a character's head is the most fun for me! I usually approach creating a character with their backstory/psychology prioritized so I can use that to inform their behaviors and then shape their personality, ideals, etc. around that. (i.e., Solara can't stand by and do nothing when she hears children cry, because she was once a child who no one helped when she was crying/sad/afraid.)

15. What are your writing weaknesses?  TALKING HEADS. God, I get very invested in dialogue and internal monologue and emotions that I forget about what the characters are doing physically. Are they still walking? What are their hands doing? Did the person drinking tea behind them at the coffee shop leave or are they still there? If its an ACOTAR fic--what are Azriel's shadows doing from the last time I described them? Did I forget to make them move again??

16. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? So, I technically (only technically) sort of have because I use Elvish language in my fic, but I made up the language and only have a few key phrases. I made it to be inspired by a mix of Spanish and Tagalog.

17. First fandom you wrote for? Ooh either Harry Potter or Naruto, probably, I don't fully remember.

18. Favorite fic you’ve written? AHHHH this is tough! It's so difficult because I love my fics for very different reasons. ACOAAS is very political drama romance and very focused on the mate bond, on the injustices and genocide the Meliae (ashwood nymphs) faced for over several centuries. It's sort of like Bridgerton-level focus on romance and the bond but like with very real political and ethical stakes. ACOSAR is me just finishing out ACOTAR how I want to, so taking up all the unfinished plot points and tying them all together. So we get to go to the Spring Court for a bit and help Tamlin get his shit together, we spend time with Eris and try and help him kill Beron, we learn about Mor, we investigate Koschei, etc.

I think if it's judging it by effort required, then ACOSAR has to be my favorite. I love Solara so much and making her fit into the world and affect things going on while essentially going off of no plot/writing my own entirely from picking up where ACOSF (and now HOFAS) ended.

Probably the In His Care series. My style has just changed at lot over the years and I would have to start it all over again to not have a glaring gap between chapters. But who knows. I might end up going back to it.

I've been told that I write emotion well.

Sticking to an idea to the end. The ADHD is too strong I gotta bounce around.

Okay re: earthy/witchy Elain… I am obsessed with the idea of Elain have some sort of witchy powers and working with herbs etc and I think she may also have some sort of power of life if that makes sense? I’m honestly horrible at explaining things but if you want to know what I’m on about, @wingedblooms has incredible theories that they’ve put heaps of time into explaining beautifully!

Onto your questions…

1. My toxic trait is that I loooove a quiet, mysterious man that doesn’t say much and is lowkey terrifying and Azriel ticks all those boxes. They’re like a little puzzle to solve and I love a challenge that has major potential to hurt me …. But!! I love that he really sees and understands people and you can tell that he genuinely cares for the people around him and even though he doesn’t talk much, he’s always listening and learning. One of my favourite things in the world is Azriel’s relationship with Nesta - the way I cried when he gave her the book light for solstice and she hugged him should be studied 😭😭😭 it’s one of my favourite parts of the whole series.

There’s not much I don’t like about him, to be honest - at least nothing that I can think of off the top of my head! I guess regifting the necklace wasn’t his brightest moment but in the words of Lana Del Rey, 🎵you’re just a man… it’s just what you do 🎵

2. I LOVE a fluffy, Christmas vibe!! Azriel canonically loves a holiday, who am I to deny him of a fluffy moment 🎄

3. I have so much in common with them, I think that’s why they’re my faves bc I feel like I know them personally 😭 I looove baking and cooking and I love to do things for people. I love a grandma craft. I don’t think we know much about Azriel in way of hobbies but I’ve decided he loves music and so do I. I am also a big time quiet friend (in real life, idk why I can’t shut up online), listener not talker, and so will dole out advice when necessary a la the spymaster so we’ve got that in common

4. I don’t even know!!! I’m so late to the game, I was a big lit fic girlie (still am) but my friend was reading the first one and I’d seen it all over TikTok and I am SO easily influenced… I picked it up July 8th last year and I’d finished all of ACOTAR and ToG by August 15th 😅 it’s a high I’ve been chasing ever since and it reignited my long lost love for reading so I’ll forever be thankful to it… plus it led me back to writing and this amazing community

1) I got the first acotar book for my birthday from @froggywizzard . So yall can blame her, lol. As soon as I finished the series, I created this account to see more theories and fanarts. I came here because it was difficult to find other eluciens/gwynriels on tiktok.

I also have this overwhelming need to yap about my fixations, and I didn't want to torture people in my real life. I can be a bit annoying once I get obsessed with a topic, lol.

2) Surprisingly or not, it would probably be Elain. I know we don't know much about her personality and thoughts as of now, but from what we know... she's just like me fr. As a people pleaser, someone who has a hard time taking the reins in my own life sometimes, as someone who likes living their simple life, and who always tries to see the positive in every situation... At the same time, I hate when someone takes away my choice and freedom. So, yeah, Elain is my girl.

3) Probably acosf. I haven't read tog or cc yet buuuut, acosf was probably the only acotar book that made me cry multiple times. The Valkyries made this book for me.

4) Elucien!!!! I just love Lucien as an mmc so much. I love their aesthetic, energy, compatibility, and potential for their story. The angst and slowburn is going to be crazy.

And Gwynriel ofc. The healing arc is going to be so good.

Honestly I'm very aware of the fact that I haven't been as active lately and I feel really bad about it, I still do reblogs and such but I just haven't been making as much original content recently. I've been trying to cut down on the anti content I post here and keep more of my criticisms in the Feyre server, I don't have a lot of energy to actually argue on here like I used to so I just talk my shit over there. Once cc3 comes out and I get Feyre crumbs though I swear I will be back to yapping, I just need more juice for my inspiration to come to me.

Some people in the Feyre server and I might be rereading the series after we've all wrapped up cc3 though so I'll def make some content during that. :) And I completely agree with everything you said, I don't really care that Nesta is going to be talking with Bryce as it is just a bonus chapter and I'm of the belief those genuinely aren't that important and only exist for marketing and to possibly build some excitement about certain things, I just hope that during their brief time in cc3 all of the acotar characters Feyre get treated well and we get some interesting scenes from them.

I'm not really a fan of cc3 theories that put one acotar character as objectively more important than others in the grander scheme of the SJM multiverse. I think they're all just cogs in one large machine and all these theories saying "X character is actually going to be the key player because of Y reasons!" is always silly to me. Tbh I'm not really a huge fan of the acotar characters becoming things outside of the context of their own universe/stories (if that makes sense)? Why can't they just be helping Bryce out? Why must one of them secretly be the key to everything? Or the Mother? Or the CC gods? Or a prince of Hel? BLAH!
