Love is Embarrassing | JJ Maybank
summary: although JJ had promised your brother he wouldn’t ever hurt you, you saw him kissing Kie while you were on a break.
pairing: JJ Maybank x Routledge!reader
genre: emotionally heavy anst, fluff in the end
contains: reader being a real bitch, mentions of Luke and parental abuse, inspired by some songs in the album “GUTS” by Olivia Rodrigo, kinda shitty ending but let me know.
word count: 2,7k
author’s note: alright I know I’ve been MIA and a bitch and I haven’t posted anything in months (worse if you see how much stuff is on my “upcoming works” section), but I’ve just had a lot of ideas, little time and little confidence to write. one of my best friends just showed me obx and I’m in love with this blonde and I got (I think) a spoiler about him and Kie and I just had to do something with my feelings.
This is a work of fiction. I do not own the characters of Outer Banks nor any characteristic of the show. I am writing this story solely for my own entertainment and the marvel or comfort of any readers.
“If I fuck up with her that might as well be the last thing I do in my life, John B! I mean it!”
the words that JJ heatedly uttered to your twin brother the day he found out about the two of you were repeating over and over in your head right now. You remembered it all too well; John B was seething, absolutely pissed, seeing red. You and JJ Maybank knew each other for as long as he and your brother were best friends, when you turned 14, he declared to all the Pogues that you were off limits, and about two months ago, you and JJ started seeing each other. One month into it and JB discovered you, which was easy considering JJ already spent most of his time with both of you at the Chateau. JJ promised his best friend that he wouldn’t fuck up with you because two things mattered the most for him in this life; their friendship, and yourself.
But as of lately, he was having some problems with Luke and he asked for some time “out” so he could figure his shit out without involving or hurting you and you disagreed but you’d do pretty much anything in this world for this man so you decided to say yes.
To his bullshit.
Bullshit, you figured out about half an hour ago, when you heard a confusing conversation between him and Kiara – the perfect one – and when you went outside to track the noise, you saw them kissing.
You were fifteen minutes late to leave for the weekly kegger and you forced yourself to lock yourself in the bathroom and call in sick – because that you were, and you wouldn’t handle being out partying and pretending like seeing the kooks, and seeing them two wouldn’t make you feel the same type of nausea at this moment.
Sarah was the third person to try and make you get out of the bathroom. The first being your brother and the second, Pope. Although you were thankful neither JJ nor Kie had tried to talk to you, when you heard your best friend’s voice, you were actually starting to feel sick, you were having a migraine from holding tears up, and you were sweating.
“Y/n, come on! You were so excited to come not even an hour ago, we’re already late and I don’t see why wouldn’t you want to come”
Your vision was blurry as you palmed the door and laid your forehead on it. Sarah realized that you really weren’t coming when she heard your voice crack.
“Sarah please, just, go on out without me this one time, I need not to be there right now and I also need to be alone please don’t ask me questions I can’t handle to answer you this moment I promise-“
As you rambled, she frowned from the other side of the door. Making sure to get everyone to leave for the Kegger, to try and remember asking you about this later on, and to reassure John B that you were actually okay.
You’ve been successfully avoiding JJ for about two weeks now. It started with enough discretion, allegedly going to the bathroom every time he entered a room, or offering everyone any snacks you would spend too much time preparing in the kitchen. For him, it started getting obvious when you looked the other way when he looked at you at the beach, or when you refused to surf and, as of recently, started slamming the doors on him. JJ was getting pissed at this rate. He started by simply frowning and brushing it off, but you couldn’t just keep slamming doors and not even looking at him, and if everyone else noticed, they just wouldn’t budge! The worst part is that he didn’t know what had happened nor if he could fix it. You understood him when he told you he needed time to figure out some stuff with Luke, but the truth was he was still very much freaked out about that. He still loved you, and he couldn’t afford to see you like this anymore, especially when such behavior was being directed at him. JJ missed you. Even if he couldn’t really figure his shit out, he missed you screaming at the top of your lungs as you entered the sea, he missed your smile, your laidback grin that he was the only receiver of, he missed your colorful bikinis, and how they embraced your features as you would jump onto every wooden swing near the shore, your curly hair flying everywhere filled with salt spray. He just missed you, the real you. And he had to talk to you to see if there was even a chance that he could get you back.
You, on the other hand, kept avoiding the questioning looks the pogues would send you every time you were harsh or avoidant at JJ, your brother even attempted to talk to you, silently, just with glances, and figure out if his best friend had hurt you. But even if he did, it only hurt because you loved him too much, and you decided it was best to protect him from John B’s wrath. You felt embarrassed whenever Kiara questioned you with her eyes as well; you felt embarrassed to be near her. You kept crucifying yourself and both her and JJ because of everything, often zoning out of the conversation and just bitterly reminiscing about the times you consoled your boyfriend as he cried late at night in your room, being gentle with his bruises. – thinking how could you be so stupid? giving up everything, betting on him against your brother’s better judgment. You kept paying attention to Kie and how, since that day, she looked like the sweetest thing of the Cut, the fucking hell-side of the island. Her perfume lingered in the air even at the beach and made you feel sick; you saw her everywhere now, even when you looked at him. You saw the scene of them kissing. Feeling every word she would utter toward you in conversation like bullets on your skin. As it was torture how she was the greatest thing to ever exist – how everyone loved her, how she was so much better than you; poisoning everything that you do and still being the sweetest friend, making you despise how rotten your mind was; how jealous your eyes were.
You were bottled up to the brim.
It started out simple enough. JJ had noticed everyone was doing their own thing at the Chateau; John B was absent for the time being, and you were alone on the couch, fidgeting, focused on whatever. It seemed like the perfect window to try and have an actual conversation about what’s been happening. He just didn’t expect it all to escalate so quickly. He didn’t expect you to have seen a part of his conversation with Kiara about his dad – but not everything, not the ending. – He hadn’t expected a conversation with you of all people to become a bomb with a short fuse that would explode into feelings tainted crimson. watching you bleed, making him bleed all over for you.
"Pogues don't mack on pogues, y/n! this shit freaked me out, your brother finding out freaked me out, yeah, even if he’s my best friend and I was afraid that-”
“Oh, so you go ‘round and fucking get with Kiara?! this is fucking bullshit, JJ! bullshit-
“Y/n, listen to me!”
You both were screaming, Kie’s eyes went wide as she tried calling your name as well but you had already started crying and couldn’t pay attention to anyone but him. At this point, as John B arrived at the Chateau and followed the noise, the people around you calming you down couldn’t be sure if they were afraid of his arrival or actually relieved. You kept interrupting each other. JJ pulled his hair and you pointed at yourself and to your side – as if Kiara was still there – strength marking red fingertips above your chest.
“‘Cause she’s not even a real pogue, right?! that’s why you got so confident about it, huh?”
it was almost as if the room went silent. Kiara decided to step outside to give you space; to take a moment to breathe in and take notice that you didn’t mean that. She was sure you didn’t. The rest of the group started to move aside as well although they could obviously still hear the commotion. Only you, John B, and JJ were in the living room. Your brother grabbed your shoulders from behind trying to ground you in any way he could, JJ growing nervous at the rate of the conversation and his friend’s presence.
You looked into his eyes and it was as if the blue in them was slowly fading, his eyebrows shot up and his mouth twisted in a clearly upset frown. As tears stained your cheeks, pride still overpowering your shame and feelings pent up, you started with more meaningless empty jabs, which, said angrily enough, would only make JJ bleed more as he fell silent himself.
“I really loved you, you know? You gotta laugh at the stupidity.. right? Come on you were going around doing that shit and I swear JJ I used to think was really smart… I was just a mesmerizing, paralyzing, fucked-up little thrill for you, tho… best friend’s little twin… ridiculous.”
At that, John B diverted his attention toward his friend with stern questioning eyes. JJ gulped.
“Look, man I just really need to talk to her and explain myself, ‘aight? I didn’t do what- Things are really not what they seem right now and I need her to-“
“Fuck, JJ, that’s bullshit! How can you not even flinch when you fucking lie like that! Things are just like what they seem you never even fucking loved me! You can’t love anyone, ‘cause that would mean you had a heart, right? But you’re a fucking Maybank! And I really tried to help you out all this time but now I know that I can’t!”
You were calming down, but exploded again, as the words left your mouth though, you started regretting them, the most deeply someone could ever regret anything maybe, worsening by the second as you saw the man you still loved muttering a small “no”, cracking at your words and shedding a tear. As Kiara heard what you said from the outside, she didn’t even think before bursting into the house again, turning every head in her direction.
“Y/n you’re spiraling and you’re saying things you’ll fucking regret! I kissed him, alright?! This is my fault. He stopped me, he loves you and he wouldn’t do that, okay?”
Though the words she was muttering were calming you down, she was calling you out, she was absolutely mad at what you said about JJ’s father because she had context and it was really fucked up. You felt small.
“Kiss?!” John B asked, his eyebrows shooting up. It wasn’t his intention to aggravate the situation but it was his little sister involved. JJ tried to start talking and explain the situation – which Kiara had left him to, but he could really only think about one thing.
“I- uh… did you mean it? What you said.”
JJ rarely expressed any sign of vulnerability, so as his voice broke, you felt like your heart did too, rushing to explain yourself now, and trying to get closer to him.
“I didn’t mean it, J, I really didn’t! God, I don’t even know how you can still even look at me right now I’m so sorry I was just so fucking broken at the idea of you che- of losing you, and I- I thought you had found someone else and I damn near started world war III right now and it’s just because I love you so much and I know you don’t deserve another fucked up demonstration of love, you deserve to feel so good, Jay, and I’m really sorry, I love you so so much, and I will understand if you never-“
You were interrupted by the shock of his own body against yours. The both of you were panting, crying, completely tired sighs leaving each mouth as if this was all going on for days and you were so hurt, yet needing each other so much. John B and Kiara were ‘okay’ enough with the newfound situation to leave you both to your own devices again, and you just clung to one another, sitting on the floor for what felt like hours until he decided to speak again.
“Y/n… I asked for us to take some time because it was becoming too real, y’know? What we felt for each other.. it was, touchable- it is. And when everyone else found out, and then John B… You know I don’t talk about this usually, not with anyone but you, but I didn’t want my dad to find out about us, to find out about you. I don’t want him knowing what you are for me I don’t want him knowing that laying a single finger on you can be worse than any punch he could throw my way. And I wanted to figure this out without you knowing about it because you’d say it’s fine, and I-“
As your mind processes his words, you start to think how in the world you got a man whose the first concern about a monster of a father would be you. How could you deserve it, especially after what you had insinuated about him. “It is! It’s fine, honey, we can-“
“No, y/n it’s not fine because I don’t ever want you to even worry your pretty little head about a situation like that, y’know? And It’s not fine because the pogues are my family and the love I feel for you, if anything would happen to you because of him I’ll be damned, damned, and in jail for murder, you can trust me I will.”
He closed his eyes, taking a deep breath. All you could do was keep the hold you had on each other, slightly caressing his head.
“Since I didn’t want you to know about it, I went to Kie, that night of the Kegger, and she tried to help me and she said she loved me and I did too but then she kissed me and I assume it’s what you saw but I did step back, I promise! I told her off… Y/n I told your brother that if I intentionally hurt you, if I fucked up with you like this then that might as well be the last thing I did in my life and I mean it. I love you so much, little Routledge, and I’m all in now. We can figure shit out as we go but as long as we have each other, okay?”
As JJ spoke, he held your hands, reassuring you at the end. Hours had passed ever since you started talking, so when the pogues felt everything was calmer they decided to go back in the house slowly – figure out how you were, what were the plans for the night.
“Do you really forgive me for what I said? I will understand, J, I’m so, so sorry, I love you so much” You touched your forehead with his, and JJ sighed, shaking his head slightly. “I love you. I love you, y/n… can’t be without you.”
And as you both kissed each other as if you were making up for ages lost, Sarah smiled at the corner of the room, John B interrupting the show. “Come on with the PDA, love birds… What are we doing tonight, then?” He half-heartedly scolded as you got up, hand glued to the blonde's. You let out a big sigh again, before brushing them off with an honest, but half-assed excuse, already making the way to your room.
“I mean, you could go to Heyward’s… I think we’ll just lie down a bit.. ‘twas kinda draining…” you saw a bunch of side smiles as the group left through the door, Sarah grinned, letting out a puff of air through her nose, and when Pope went to close the door, he screamed back in the direction of your room, “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do!” which earned a scream back from an already lying down JJ, “might as well not do anything!” and for the first time in a while, you laughed, making your way to lie on top of him, his embrace being all you needed.
“You know… we could go out to surf tomorrow,” he offered, still missing the sight of a happy you, your bikini, and the ocean.
“First thing in the morning.” You answered.

Hiiiii I've been scrolling to much in Tumblr thankful that I found ur acc, got hooked with ur writing when I read the jing yuan fic <333
so may i request dr. Ratio or sunday with a gojo m reader 👀, maybe enemies to lovers (anything is fine ^^) , the plot is yours to freely choose <33
Charm You Later~
Sunday | M. Reader as Satoru Gojo [Jujutsu Kaisen]
----------
"I hate that man I hate that man! …but oh cara mia..how I love him~"
----------
Oh how he hated that man. He would always waltz towards him and act all buddy-buddy, and he'll do it with that cheeky grin. How annoying.
And that voice. Oh how he dreaded it. Hearing it hurts his ears.
Just who does he think he is? Getting all chummy with him. A member of The Family! Just who does he think he is?! Another thing he doesn't understand.. is how Robin seems to be fond of him. How could his sister like someone like him? He's a complete man child!
When he asked about it, her response was. "He just seems to be a fun person to be around."
Fun? Him? He's more like a headache! An annoying headache!
Especially that one time...
.
.
.
.
.
The door of the theater bursts open, revealing a tall man wearing sunglasses. He casually walks towards a specific seat, his hands in his pockets and a cheeky grin on his handsome face. Acting like he owns the place.
Some were swooned by the handsome man, some were whispering amongst each other, some looked at him with annoyance.
Just who does he think he is?
"Hey! Sunday!" He called out casually, raising a hand as if his tall figure and "grand entrance" didn't already attract anyone in the theater.
----------
How humiliating! To have someone as brash as him to call out to him like that in front of everyone! Sunday swears he wanted to kill him right then and there.
"What's with that look~"
"Shut up."
"Hey I was just asking an innocent question.."
The man pouts as Sunday turned his back against him. How grumpy.. why can't he just lighten up a little? A dream is supposed to be sweet, not bitter. "Come on~" Letting out a sigh, Sunday mumbled something under his breath before speaking up. "That's enough, [Name], please leave."
"Come on Sunday~ Why must you act this way to me.." [Name] teased as he continues to pout at Sunday for being a "meanie" surely he hasn't done anything bad, right? [Name] is positive he hasn't done anything that might result in such a behavior from Sunday. So.. he decided to continue with his teasing.
The other's teasing will always annoy Sunday to no end. He always acts so cheery, plus that cheeky, weirdly adorable grin on his face that doesn't seem to be leaving him anytime soon. He's looking down on him. Of course he is! His tone, no matter how friendly it is, still has that faint hint of arrogance in it. The way he acted is just so.. condescending.
Then again.. what did you expect from someone who always claims he's the strongest.
"Is it something I did? Hey, Sunday." [Name] wrapped his arms around his shoulders, leaning down a little to do so. "Sunday, tell me!" Poking the man's cheek as he kept pestering him like a child wanting their parents attention. With a groan Sunday slapped the man's finger with his wing. "Stop that."
[Name] pouts before finally leaving Sunday alone.
Finally.. some peace and quiet..
----------
Death comes for us all. A common knowledge. And yet, the moment that.. thing attacked..
He can't help but feel.. off..
The sight of that thing attacking him.
How the self proclaimed "Strongest" struggles in the face of Death. Then again.. no one could escape Death itself. But still.. he can't help but feel a wave of dread at the sight of it. When he saw him after the incident, there was one thing that crossed his mind..
'That blank, dead-like expression doesn't suit him.'
Where's the smile that always decorated his face? Where's the captivating glow of his eyes?
"What's this?" The other asked rather blankly, a tone that doesn't suit him one bit. "..a get well soon gift." "I'm not sick."
Letting out a sigh, Sunday continues to shoved the small box toward him. "Just take it." [Name] look at Sunday from over the top of his sunglasses, eyeing him for a moment before taking the gift, mumbling a small "Thanks."
'That look doesn't suit him.' Sunday continues to think of the same thing over and over again. The glint of mischief isn't there anymore... he can't deny it anymore.. Sunday had missed the bastard's mischievousness and his playful attitude.
"What's this for anyway?" "Stop that."
Taken aback by the sudden harsh words [Name] look up from the gift and stare at Sunday. "I beg your pardon?"
Sunday? Raising his voice like that? That's unheard of.. why is he acting this way? What happened? Is this truly Sunday? Thousands of theories run through his head as [Name] tries to think of a reason for the calm and collected Sunday to lose his temper like that.
"I said 'stop that.'" He huffed crossing his arms. Yeah no, [Name] isn't taking that attitude. "What's with you all of a sudden?"
"That's supposed to be my question you idiot!" Sunday suddenly raised his voice as his temper took the best of him. "Wha—Hey!" "Just shut up and listen to me!!"
[Name] glared at the winged man. Him? Telling him to shut up? Who does he think he is? Ordering the "Strongest" like that? And where is all of this coming from? It doesn't make sense! Not with how calm and collected Sunday usual is!
The winged man grabbed the other by his collar as he's getting fed up with their little argument. But before [Name] could protest again, he was silenced by something soft placed on top of his lips. A sweet kiss.
Huh?
Did he just..?
Stunned by the kiss that came out of nowhere, [Name] looked at Sunday with wide eyes. He was not expecting that... how is he supposed to expect that coming from the person who he annoys and argues 24/7?
The two blushed as Sunday looked away for a moment before speaking up. "That look doesn't suit you."
"Could you please... give me a smile instead..?"

Hey I just sent your wednesday telling tish and gomez she has a gf fanfic and I loved it was wondering if you could do kinda off a part 2 to it where its parents week aging and they meet yn
“My parents wishes to meet you.” You almost spat out your drink at the suddenness of your girlfriends words. “Well good morning to you too my dear rose thorn.” You coughed whilst Wednesday patted your back until your airways cleared up. “Why do your parents want to meet me? Did they ask about me? What did you say? Please tell me you didn’t tell them about the time I tripped and accidentally pulled down Ajax’s beanie and had mrs Thornhill accidentally stoned?” You pestered Wednesday with question after question but it was more out of your nervous habit rather then being annoying.
You were just worried that when you finally do get the meet Wednesday’s parents, whatever they said to her in confidence would immediately be retracted once they got to know you other then being their daughters girlfriend. “Cara mia,” Wednesday’s face softened at your worries as she held your hand in hers, making you look at her with an insecurity written across your face, “you fret over nothing, my parents aren’t the shallow type that retract their statements. You’re already beloved by Thing.”
You both looked to Thing who was having his nails painted by Enid in a matte black colour. You smiled at the hand before looking back at Wednesday, who was already looking at you with a rarity of a smile across her lips. You were thankful of her attempts of easing your worries as you brought your arms around her waist, drawing her close. “How could I dare compete with such beauty.” You softly spoke. “Don’t inflate Thing’s ego, he won’t let me live it down if you do.” Wednesday replied but noticed how you didn’t take your eyes off her. “I wasn’t talking about Thing.” You said, eyes closing shut when you felt her draw her lips to your cheek, opening them once more when Wednesday draws herself away.
“Okay, okay we get it your both cute, your both adorable and in love and shit but please reframe from being so gothically cutesy in front of my client. Thank you.” Enid said as she gestured to Thing, who was attempting to either fan himself or dry his nails faster. You weren’t quite sure which but found it humorous as you felt a smile creep up on your lips. “Alright then, we’ll leave you and your client to it.” You said to Enid who gave you a soldiers salute before facing Wednesday, presenting your arm to her as you breathed a nervous sigh.
“I believe your parents awaits us my lady of darkness.” Wednesday could feel the tension as she slipped her arm through your arm, bringing her hand to intertwine with yours, squeezing it reassuringly as you felt her black painted nails gently bite into your skin. “Relax my love, they can smell fear.” She whispered in your ear as she lead the both of you out of the dorm and to the entrance hall of the school just as a sleek black car pulled up. A tall woman emerged from the car first with hair as black as night cascading down her shoulders that matched her black dress which made her look as though she were gliding through billows of black mist.
She was beautiful, you could easily tell she was Wednesday’s mother because only a beauty of her stature could create the beauty that was your girlfriend. Next to come out of the car was a stout man dressed in a dark pinstriped suit, he immediately rushed to his wife’s side, joining their hands together tightly as though they were scared to be separated from one another. He was a handsome man in his own right and you could tell that he treated Wednesday’s mother like a goddess with how openly affectionate he was to her and vice versa.
It was rare to see an openly happy husband and wife. It always seemed that by the time they stopped having kids, or were in the midst of having them, the magic of their relationship gives away into a hostile environment that the kids are the primary victims of. So you were extremely happy that Wednesday was born to two loving people as her parents. However you noticed how her shoulders deflate when she didn’t see whom she wanted to see the most. “Pugsley’s not with them, I guess he’s still in school…getting shoved in a locker somewhere.” She murmurs under her breath, a little disappointed.
“I’m sure your brother join next time my black dahlia.” You reassured her, bringing up her hand to press a tender kiss to it before your eyes widened in realisation of what you’ve just done and in the presence of her parents too. You looked over at Morticia and Gomez who were already looking at you and their daughter with soft expressions as they turned to one another. “I believe that’s the little mouse who’s stole our vipers heart.” Gomez told Morticia who only smiled sweetly, gripping her husbands hand. “ I believe so too,” she starts before looking over at you with observant eyes that made you stand straighter then you ever were. “She’s just adorable, don’t you think dear Gomez?”
You didn’t know how to feel about being talked about as though you aren’t there but you didn’t have to wait that much longer before they both walked up to greet you and Wednesday. “Wednesday, have you gotten into the school spirit yet?” Morticia asked her daughter who only looked unimpressed. “Can’t you see I’m just dying with so much school spirit.” Wednesday’s replied made a chuckle slip past your lips, causing her, Morticia and Gomez’s attention to be brought to you and you immediately choked. “I’m sorry, I apologise for laughing.” You said but Morticia and Gomez only smiled whilst Wednesday brought your hand to her lips, mirroring your actions earlier in hopes of relieving you of some of your anxieties.
“It’s quite alright dear, I’m just enlightened that someone can see the humour in our daughter’s dankness.” Gomez replied, “you must be the girl who stole our Wednesday’s heart right from her chest. Tell me, was it as dark as she claims it was?” You looked to Wednesday and smiled, feeling slightly at ease with her parents reception of you. “Oh it’s as dark as they come and then some, she is forever my black diamond for her shine maybe nonexistent to most but to me,” you tug your girlfriend close. in an outburst of self confidence as her free hand found home on your shoulder, “she shines brighter then any.”
Wednesday temporarily didn’t know how to respond to your genuine words but Morticia and Gomez couldn’t help but love you even more as they got to see how you treated their daughter and vice versa. You and Wednesday reminded them when they were younger and that’s the type of devotion they wanted for their daughter and were happy that Wednesday had found you. “Oh your becoming an Addams already my dear.” Morticia said fondly as she tenderly reaches for your cheek.
“Just don’t go breaking our daughter’s heart before we can incite the welcoming ceremony.” She adds and as soon as she pulls away, Gomez goes in for a big hug, taking you away from Wednesday who only watched in slight amusement as you are squeezed into her fathers famous bear hugs. “I can’t wait for you to become a viper, my little mouse.” He says, pulling away to address his daughter, “rest assured my little viper, upon the next parents evening we’ll be sure to bring along Pugsley, uncle Fester and potentially cousin IT to meet your future wife.”
“I’m ecstatic.” Wednesday replied, returning to your side to grasp at your hand once more. You honestly had no idea why you were so afraid of meeting Wednesday’s parents at first but now you adored them as they adored you, seeing as how throughout the rest of the evening they asked you a plethora of questions of how and why you loved Wednesday. You answered them truthfully and as honestly as you could that by the end of each answer you gave Morticia and Gomez; You swore you could see Wednesday’s dark eye beaming with love and her cheeks aflame with a red flush as her hand gripped onto your arm tightly, almost to the point of pure possessiveness but you were also holding onto her just as tightly.

On My Mama - Two
Thank you to @cocobutterqwueen for the support while I was trying to map out this second chapter!
Santiago 'Pope' Garcia x Female Reader
Tyler Rake x Female Reader
Andy Barber x Female Reader
Jax Teller x Female Reader
Word Count: 6.2K
Warnings: 18+ ONLY, language, more angst, jealousy, a lot of male posturing, persuasiveness.
Summary | Being a single mom with a complicated relationship with your ex-husband makes for an interesting summer after a school event and an unexpected errand puts you front and center with some eligible contenders for your attention.
True to Jax’s word, you’re in and out in less than fifteen minutes, happy to leave Melanie as she gave you a polite but pointed stare when you tried once more to pay him. He wouldn’t have it, slipping you his card in case you needed anything else, his cell written on the back. Not wanting to get in between Melanie’s distraction, there’s nothing left to say but to lobby another gracious thank you his way and slip into the driver’s seat.
You found out much more than you ever wanted to in those short moments, Melanie whispering in your ear whenever he was out of earshot every detail that she had gathered about him. A single father to a son, a seven-year-old named Abel, rumored to be part of a biker gang – Vice President, Melanie had told you dramatically, her eyelashes batting when she says it like a secret – and more importantly, the best mechanic she’s ever had.
Nevermind that her husband doesn’t particularly like that she takes her car to get repaired here, a fact she reminded you about at least three times. Melanie’s daughter tells every single bit of her mother’s business and Mia, at her young age, parrots it right back to you, laughing when you sometimes widen your eyes at the somewhat scandalous details, such as when Melanie bought store bought cookies and passed them off as her own, telling her daughter to stay quiet.
But as you had learned, there was no such thing as a secret to a five-year-old.
🌤
The late 90’s music blares through the speakers, pushing your cart down the aisle to continue your search for marinara sauce. School nights are hard to plan for, especially with Mia’s ever changing appetite.
This week it’s all about pasta, opting for spaghetti for dinner, even as you feel a small wave of guilt for the vegetables you will puree in the sauce. Reaching for a jar, a familiar face catches your attention, Laurie Barber giving you a wave when she approaches.
You know Laurie well enough to know that she has some gossip to share, usually between her and Melanie trading stories during field trips or snack day rotation.
“How have you been?” she asks, a hint of mischief in her smile. “I’m so happy I ran into you.”
“Oh?” you reply, noticing that she looks around before she finally speaks to make sure the coast is clear.
“You didn’t tell me your ex came to the parents’ lunch,” Laurie accuses playfully. “I had to find out from pictures?”
“Pictures?” you repeat, Laurie nodding her head, digging her phone out of her purse.
“Of course there are pictures! I’d seen him with Mia when you had pictures of him with her as a baby but holy hell, that man is handsome,” Laurie praises, showing you a photo of Mia in Santiago’s arms, both of them looking intently at a finger painting. “Him being at the school is a good sign, right?”
“I don’t know,” you mumble, Laurie slipping her phone into the pocket of her pants. “It’s a start.”
“Still not on the mend, huh?”
“We’re divorced, Laurie. There’s no going back.”
“Don’t I know it,” she agrees. “It’s been at least three years since Andy and I divorced and I never look back. We got a great kid out of it and Andy’s moving on up in the world and he’s up for pretty big promotion.”
“Andy? That’s great.”
“I’m surprised you didn’t see him. He saw you,” Laurie teases, seeing you shake your head in response.
Every single mother throws themselves at Andy Barber.
You aren’t one of them.
“I guess I must have missed him,” you reply, Laurie shrugging her shoulders.
“You know Andy. I wish he wasn’t married to his work that much so he could get out and see the world, maybe date a nice girl who understands that sense of righteousness that he can’t seem to shake.”
“It’s nice that you’re on good terms.”
“Are you and Santiago not?”
“No,” you say quickly, hating that you feel like you’re now put on the spot. “I mean, we’re good, I guess. I was surprised that he wanted to see the school, he’s pretty much been against her going to public school since before she could even talk.”
“Avon Academy isn’t close to being terrible. He’s always had impossibly high standards, hasn’t he? Didn’t he go to a boarding school in Switzerland?”
“He did. If he had his way that is probably where our daughter would be right now.”
“Alone?” Laurie says incredulously. “She’s five!”
“No, not alone. I’d most likely be in some apartment in Zurich, trying to keep myself busy.”
“Sounds like a dream.”
“It’s lonely,” you respond, Laurie nodding, realizing that you aren’t willing to give up more details.
“Well, selfishly, I’m glad you and Mia are here. I’m also thankful for Santiago for gracing us with his presence.”
You crack a smile then, Laurie trying to contain her laughter as you both laugh. It’s absurd to discuss anything regarding your ex-husband but you know that Laurie is a safe space for you and that little bit of relief is what you need.
“Speaking of hot dads, Melanie told me you got your tire fixed. Jax Teller, huh?”
“Oh, God,” you mutter, running a hand down your face. “She really tells everything, doesn’t she?”
“Your fault for giving her a ride. Come on, don’t be shy.”
“What do you want to know?”
“Well, I’ve seen him like once and he wasn’t even on a motorcycle. He showed up in a truck to pick up his son.”
“Abel is seven, Laurie.”
“Still disappointing,” Laurie reminds you. “Barely got to see him up close and personal.”
“He’s nice.”
Laurie lets out an inelegant snort at your response.
“Nice? Nice is my neighbor across the way who wears a cardigan and a polo shirt and offers to water my lawn. Jax Teller is not nice. He looks like he could rail you into next week and send you off with a pat on the -”
“Laurie!” you admonish, hearing her laugh.
“I’m kidding but also,” she trails off, tapping the tip of her nose. “You know it’s true.”
Laurie’s cell goes off in her purse, picking up her basket.
“Shit, it’s Andy,” she mutters. “Probably needs me to pick up Jacob. I’ll see you at Jacob’s birthday party. Can’t wait to have a slice of your homemade cake!”
With a nod, she rounds the corner, speaking quickly while you add a box of noodles to the cart when you realize what she told you.
Birthday party?
Birthday cake?
🌤
“You said what?” you ask softly, Mia chewing as she hums.
“I said you could make Jacob’s birthday cake,” Mia offers proudly.
Placing your fork down on your plate, you stare at the wrinkled birthday party invitation that you had to dig through Mia’s unicorn backpack.
“Sweetheart, remember we talked about this? You ask Mommy first.”
“I did,” Mia insists, a smear of marinara at the corner of her lips. “You made mine when I asked.”
“Yes, you asked me to make yours. You did not ask me to make Jacob’s.”
Her little face scrunches up in displeasure at your hesitation, swallowing her food before she defends herself.
“But you’re good at it! Jacob’s daddy said you make the best cake in the whole world!”
“Mia,” you warn, seeing her little shoulders slump.
“No cake?” she asks pitifully, her lower lip trembling. “Please, Mommy? It’s his birthday. He has to have cake.”
“I don’t even know what flavor he likes.”
“He likes banilla!”
“Vanilla,” you correct gently.
“Vanilla and he likes vanilla frosting,” she enunciates. “He told me so.”
With a sigh, you get up, Mia following suit, nearly on your heels when you check the pantry to make sure you have everything you need.
“You’re going to make it?!” she asks, clapping her hands together excitedly. “You’re the best mommy in the whole world!”
“I’ll make it if you promise to finish your dinner.”
Mia gasps, running back to her chair as she climbs up, ignoring your warning for her to wait for you to help her, slurping spaghetti into her mouth.
“We gotta get a gift,” Mia reminds you, as if she didn’t just tell you last minute. “He likes cars.”
“We’ll go tomorrow after school, how does that sound?”
“Okay.”
She finishes her food, watching as you pick her empty plate up from the table, remembering her manners as she wipes her sauce coated fingers with a napkin.
“May I be scused?”
“You may,” you agree, seeing her jump off the chair as it slides backward slightly, nearly giving you a heart attack when she bolts up the stairs.
“Don’t forget to brush your teeth!” you call out, hearing her slam the bathroom door.
Pulling out a mixing bowl, you start adding in the ingredients, hearing Mia singing loudly at the top of her lungs.
🌤
You have to hand it to Laurie.
The woman knows how to throw a birthday party. As if directly ripped from a Pinterest page, you and Mia walk through a blue and silver balloon, Laurie’s headband green with alien googly eyes that move back and forth when she hugs Mia.
“Jacob’s out back,” she tells Mia, holding out a pair of headbands – one like hers and another that is hot pink with the same eyes but with lashes. Mia plucks the hot pink ones from her hand, handing them to Laurie so that she can place them on her head, smoothing out her hair before she does so, both of you knowing that she’ll either lose it or break it by the end of the day.
Laurie spies the cake you hold, the piping in blue with an astronaut on the left.
“God, I love your cakes,” Laurie murmurs with glee, taking it from your hands. “I was so happy that Mia said you would do it because I was at my wit’s end with him and trying to make up his mind. First it was a western themed party and then it was a dinosaur party and finally, at the very last minute, he wanted a space party. Gotta love the indecisiveness.”
She looks at your green sundress, settling on your white Mary Janes.
“Finally,” Laurie teases. “You got smart and finally wore flats.”
You were never sure of a dress code, especially with a child’s party. Every party in the city that you attended, kid or not, you were dressed up, right down to the sky high heels. After the last birthday party, you’d gotten wise once your heels had sunk into the grass, leaving a stain that you couldn’t get out.
You pass a contingent of parents, mostly fathers, talking in a huddle, beers in hand while you follow her into the kitchen.
“Andy will be so thrilled that you made a cake. I swear he kept asking. Do you know those peppermint brownies you made last Christmas? He took half the pan home and -”
“I did not,” Andy denies, his gaze settling on the cake when he steps into the kitchen. “Well, well, well. Looks like Jacob got his wish after all.”
You forgot how handsome Andy Barber is up close and personal, his mischievous smile on display when Laurie rolls her eyes.
“Jacob got his wish,” Laurie repeats to you, moving behind you after she sets the cake down. “I’m going to check on the bounce house. Make sure he doesn’t take a slice before the birthday boy, hmm?”
She’s out of your line of sight before you even have a chance to answer, Andy opening the fridge, pulling out a beer before he pauses.
“Do you drink?” he asks cautiously.
“I do.”
Still holding the beer in his hand, he glances at the pitcher on the top shelf.
“Beer or what I think may be a cosmopolitan. Laurie always has some sort of signature drink for these types of things.”
“I’ll take a beer,” you offer, Andy placing it into your hand after lobbing off the cap.
“Good choice. Last time we had a mom who downed three Tom Collins before she realized what hit her.”
You don’t dare share that you’re a lightweight, taking a swig of your beer while Andy leans back against the counter.
“I saw you at the parent luncheon, didn’t I?”
“I was there,” you confirm.
“That lunch was something else,” Andy comments, making a face. “I thought Jacob was teasing when he mentioned glue. Turns out the kid was onto something.”
“Glue?”
“You didn’t try the sandwiches?”
“No,” you say, trying to stifle your laughter at the look of pure disgust on his face. “I’m sure we’ll get a letter of an apology like we did with the dirt pudding cups last year.”
“I must have missed that.”
“You’d remember,” you point out, suddenly feeling self-conscious when you notice his eyes lingering on you. “What?”
He straightens up, looking over your shoulder, his index finger moving in a circle.
“Turn around?” he asks, your eyes narrowing suspiciously as you turn, seeing the ties of your dress float around you.
“Shoot,” you mumble, placing your beer down to try to reach behind you.
“I can help you,” he offers, keeping still when you feel his hands pick up the fabric, carefully drawing them together, the warmth of his breath on your back as he checks to make sure you’re comfortable. “Too tight?”
“No,” you respond, feeling him tie it quickly, the faint scent of his cologne lingering as he ties it slowly, your eyes looking up at the ceiling, staying still, feeling the slight tug of the bows before you feel him step back to look in approval.
“Better.”
“Thank you,” you mumble, feeling embarrassment wash over you when he waves your appreciation away.
“I was hoping I didn’t touch you with cold hands,” he answers. “Or get into your personal space.”
“I didn’t feel a thing.”
“No comment about the personal space?”
He smiles, lifting his beer to you before taking a sip.
“Seriously though? Thanks for the cake for Jacob,” Andy thanks you, nodding toward the cake. “This kid hasn’t stopped talking about it once he found out. I gotta admit, they’re pretty damn good. I don’t know what you put in them but I can’t just have one slice.”
“I do the buttercream by hand.”
“Really? Tastes like heaven, that’s for sure. Not sure what you do for a living but if you made that career, I’m just you’d make a fortune.”
“Project manager,” you say, Andy nodding in response. “Wish I had the time. Baking relaxes me.”
“I’d be happy to eat your cake anytime,” he says, trailing off when he realizes what he’s said, laughing to himself as your eyes widen, biting down on your lips at the comment to keep from laughing yourself, when you hear Laurie coming back inside. Eyeing the cake, she looks up at you, turning to Andy.
“Cake is still intact. Guess she distracted you enough.”
🌤
Pete nudges Tyler in the side when you pass by, herding a small group of Jacob’s friends outside who were late arrivals, Laurie calling out to them outside to get their gift bags.
“You’re a married man, Pete,” Tyler reminds him.
“And I wouldn’t trade it for the world, but I have eyes, you know,” Pete counters. “Judging by the rest of us gawking, we all have eyes.”
Tyler can see Hunter running, playing tag with the other kids as they laugh and scream. He catches a glimpse of you, beer in hand as he sees Andy next you and Laurie. It’s a scene he’s still getting used to, seeing Laurie and Andy divorced but still cordial. It’s wistful thinking to believe he could have the same, knowing that the shared custody took years to be processed.
“Does Barber know that Mia’s dad is back in the picture?” another father asks, raising an eyebrow at the sight outside. “Bold move, Andy. Right next to your ex-wife.”
“He never left,” another man chimes in. “Look at her. You really think he wasn’t that far behind? Surprised he showed up, he never comes to these things.”
“Reconciliation,” Pete says with a confident nod.
“He came because it was a special occasion,” Tyler points out, the men turning to look at him.
“How do you know? She told you?”
“Hunter knows Mia through school, and she told him that her father was going to be there because it was important.”
“So, he’s still out of the picture,” one of them hints.
“I don’t hear any of you offering to step up and take care of his child so unless you’re willing to break up your marriages or take on another responsibility, you’re all creeping on a single mother who doesn’t know that you’re looking at her. Excuse me,” Tyler responds, breaking away from the group as he heads outside.
🌤
“Honey, it’s alright,” you say softly, holding onto the boy’s arms gently to keep him steady after he was dropped off unceremoniously on the door step. “It’s alright. You don’t need a gift, okay? Your gift is that you’re here. Your presence is enough, I promise.”
Tyler peers over to look at the boy who is nodding, wiping his eyes with the sleeve of his shirt.
Abel Teller.
No doubt his mother had dropped him off without a word, a far cry from his father, Jax, who would have come in to say hello. He would have most certainly provided a gift, even though it wasn’t required, seeing Abel shake his head when he’s asked a question.
“What’s your name?” Tyler hears you ask, soothing him as you dab at his tears that slide down his cheeks.
“Abel.”
“Hi Abel,” you respond, introducing yourself. “Jacob’s outside. I’m sure he’ll be happy you’re here. Are you ready to go in and have some fun?”
He sniffles, nodding his head when Tyler clears his throat.
“Hunter’s here as well, Abel,” Tyler speaks up. “They’re playing tag, I think. You like that game, don’t you? Why don’t you come with me? They’re still in the thick of it.”
Abel’s eyes light up at the game, following Tyler to the boisterous crowd of children. A few of them recognize him, calling out to him before he leaves Tyler’s side. He can feel you standing next to him, your gaze settling on your daughter who is climbing up the ladder to the slide.
“You know him?” you ask, Tyler nodding as Abel takes off running.
“Yeah,” Tyler says after a pause. “He’s a good kid. His mother… she’s not always present. Father does what he can but when it’s her weeks to take him, it gets a little complicated.”
“I can’t imagine.”
He can hear the uncertainty in your tone, your fingers gripping your beer bottle tighter. He can tell you’re thinking about Abel and before it can go deeper, he nods at the beer in your hand.
“Need another one?”
At his question, you look at him in confusion before he smiles. You’ve been nursing that same beer since he’s seen you, absentmindedly ripping at the wrapper with your nail when no one is looking, a nervous habit that he finds adorable.
“I’m good,” you answer. “Thanks though.”
“How’s it taste?”
You look up at him, unsure of why he’s asking by the way you raise an eyebrow.
“Great,” you tell him, forcing cheerfulness into your confirmation.
He laughs then, seeing how stubborn you are.
“Never met a woman who liked room temperature beer. You’re one of a kind.”
He sees you smile then, nodding at your lie.
“It tastes terrible,” you admit with a laugh. “But I was running around and by the time I got back to it, I didn’t want to ask for another one. It’s like coffee. I end up reheating it at least four times because I don’t have the time to finish it in one sitting.”
“I can get you another one, you know. No pressure, of course,” Tyler says, putting up his hands.
“I would like one,” you tell him, placing the bottle in his outstretched hand. “Thank you.”
“Thought so. I’ll be right back.”
Mia stops mid run to wave at you, grinning wide when you wave back, taking off after Hunter and Abel when Tyler hands you a beer.
“Thank you,” you say, looking back at the kids when Laurie gives you a pleading look, motioning with her hand that the cake needs to be cut.
“Shall we?” Tyler says.
Laurie calls out to Jacob, the kids lifting their heads so quickly that it reminds Tyler of meerkats, nearly a stampede as the dads remind them to slow down as they head toward the table.
🌤
Forks clink dully on the paper plates, frosting smudging on faces and clothing, moms swooping in to wipe mouths and clean off messes. Mia sits between Hunter and Abel, picking up a buttercream star and eating it, eyes closing in bliss as she dances in her seat.
Collecting discarded plates, you nearly run into Andy, who holds out a trash bag for you to toss them in.
“They’ll sleep good tonight,” Andy assures you, seeing the trio run into the house. “And I know I said this already but the cake… you just knocked it out of the park. Amazing.”
“Thank you, Andy.”
Between the number of kids and adults moving around you both, you focus on cleaning up the leftover cups of juice and water while Andy picks up the plates, working together in unison.
You don’t really know the ins and outs of his and Laurie’s former relationship, only that they seem to have the co-parenting thing down to a science, no ill will, just a simple partnership that works well for them. Without meaning to, your mind wanders to if they sleep together, much like you and Santiago, watching his tongue run over his lip as he focuses the tower of plates in his hand to the trash.
You blink the impending thought out of your mind. It definitely isn’t any of your business and it only makes you more embarrassed that you have no self-control with Santiago.
Which is only half-true. You’ve been cordial when he asks about Mia, sending him pictures of her at the birthday party.
And you’ve conveniently ignored his text from the picture with you and Mia under the balloon arch.
Nice dress.
“Seriously though,” Andy says, any hint left of Santiago disappearing in a flash as he smiles at you. “Thanks for coming and helping. Laurie couldn’t do this without you, and I know I couldn’t clean this up alone. Crazy how people love coming to parties but when it’s time to clean… it’s suddenly time to go home.”
“I’m still here, Barber,” Tyler interrupts, holding up a trash bag. “Did you forget about the poppers with the streamers in them? They’re everywhere.”
“When Laurie throws a party, she goes all out, I told you,” Andy informs him.
Laurie stands, rubbing her lower back with her fingers when the doorbell rings. The small clean-up crew continues on, tidying up before the vendors come and finish up. A soft whisper of your name from Laurie makes you move away from the Andy and Tyler, both of them engaged in sports talk.
Hunter and Mia are asleep on one side of the large sectional, Jacob laid out in the middle and Abel on the other side. Standing in the entryway, Jax zeroes in on his son before he engages in a hushed conversation with Laurie for a moment, both of them turning their attention on you when you approach.
“Sorry,” Laurie says, frustration in her voice as she gives you a small squeeze of your hand. “I’m going to send Abel home with a gift bag. Would you mind showing Jax where he is?”
Jax gives you a glance when you give him a smile, hearing him sigh behind you.
“Sorry to come so late,” he says in a hushed voice as he looks on at the sleeping kinds. “Got word last minute that my ex wasn’t going to pick up Abel and I was doing a double at the shop.”
“He’s been fine,” you assure him, watching as he carefully picks up his son without waking him, brushing back his hair as he focuses on his son’s face for a moment. It’s a tender moment, one that you don’t pay attention to for too long, unsure of what to say. You can feel the anger radiating off of him, muttering to himself as he places a kiss on Abel’s head.
“We’re going home, buddy,” he says, Abel’s eyes opening for a scant second before closing once more.
Laurie meets you at the door with Abel’s gift bag, Jax extending his hand to you as you shake it, Laurie giving him a hug, careful not to wake Abel.
“You know he’s welcome here anytime,” Laurie tells him, the sliding glass door closing in the distance.
“I appreciate that, Mrs. Barber.”
“Laurie is fine, Jax. Do you have my number?”
When he shakes his head, Laurie has her phone in hand, waiting for Jax to recite his number.
“I’ll make sure she has it too,” Laurie promises, referring to you as he nods, giving you a hint of smile.
“Have a good night, sorry again for being so late to pick him up.”
Laurie closes the door after you both see Abel get settled into the truck, turning around to face Tyler and Andy.
“Teller?” Andy asks Laurie.
“The one and only.”
“Pity I missed that,” Andy murmurs. “I would have liked to ask him a few questions.”
“You leave your interrogations at work,” Laurie fires back softly, keeping her voice down. “He’s a father doing his job.”
“Oh, he’s got a job, alright.”
Tyler checks his watch, heading toward the couch where he looks over the remaining sleeping kids. You follow suit, your cell phone vibrating in your purse that is on a chair.
“Need some help?” Tyler asks, Laurie and Andy still in the foyer, their hushed voices a cue that he’s not ready to let whatever he knows about Jax Teller go.
“Actually,” you pause for a moment, looking at how peaceful Mia looks. “I think I’ll take you up on that.”
He’s gentle when he scoops her into his arms, cradling her to his chest as Mia doesn’t move, her breathing steady as he carries her toward the door.
“Not everything has to be investigated, Andy. Sometimes people can make mistakes and learn from them,” Laurie says, her words fading out when she sees Tyler holding Mia.
“I hope my spirited debate with Andy didn’t scare you away,” Laurie says, shooting Andy a glare. ‘We differ on justice and knowing when to pick our battles.”
Andy stays silent, his eyes locking with yours.
“Thanks again for today,” he says, Laurie nodding in agreement. “Get home safe.”
Tyler waits until you collect your purse, hug Laurie goodbye and give Andy a quick hug, inhaling the scent of his cologne once more that is intoxicating. Underneath that Henley, you realize there is a solid wall of muscle, something you weren’t expecting to feel before you head out the door and down the steps, opening the backseat for Tyler to place Mia in her car seat. Her head falls back on the headrest, still fast asleep when you close the door, checking to see if the movement woke her.
“Thank you,” you tell him softly, waving to Laurie, who is standing in the doorway.
“Don’t mention it. It’s the least I can do.”
Warmth radiates off of him, trying to get the picture of how quickly he had lifted Mia into his arms so smoothly out of your mind.
“I was thinking,” Tyler says, looking over behind you to see Mia still asleep. “If you’re interested, maybe you’d like to go to dinner with me.”
It’s finally cool now that the sun has gone down but your face is warm, nearly burning with anxiety on what to say. You haven’t been asked out on a date since your ex, let alone even entertaining the thought if you were ever asked.
But now you have been asked and you need to give an answer.
You only get one chance at this.
“Sure,” you reply. “I’d like that.”
“Great,” he says. “I can give you my number. There’s no pressure, of course, if you find that you want to cancel or that you’re not interested then let me know and -”
You recite your number, Tyler realizing almost too late as he punches in the number, sending you a text.
“Get home safe and uh, just let me know when you’re interested in going. My schedule is pretty open this week and next.”
You see Andy standing next to Laurie, both of them waiting until you get into the car, turning on the lights and the engine starting before they take a step back into the house. Easing out of the parking spot, you see Tyler heading back inside to presumably get Hunter, text messages popping up on the screen during your drive home.
Birthday party? Is that why you’re all dressed up?
Need a favor.
I’ll be there in an hour.
At the last message, you look at the timestamp when you pull over. The time is nearly ten and the message was sent almost an hour ago. With Mia still fast asleep, you take the quickest way home, unsure if he’s already beat you there.
🌤
Pulling into the garage, you see him leaning against his SUV, your resolve hanging on by a thread.
He never visits at night. Always morning, always in between meetings or a flight, or some appointment.
When the car is turned off, you hear the back door open, looking over as he studies Mia’s sleeping face.
“Out like a light,” he murmurs, smoothing back her hair. “She must have partied hard.”
“What are you doing here?” you ask quietly, his dark eyes snapping up to look at you.
“You didn’t get my texts? Got a late flight out tomorrow, Derek was able to charter it at the local airport, so I figured I’d come and see my girls.”
He unlatches Mia from her car seat, careful when he lifts her into his arms while you get out of the car. In a way, it feels like this should be a snapshot or normalcy, domestic life that you had a taste of once that had been snatched away without having properly processed what had transpired before it was too late.
The promise you had made to yourself still lingers in the depths of your thoughts, propelling you forward when you open the door, letting Santiago carry Mia across the threshold, heading up the stairs slowly while you watch him disappear.
It would be so easy to fall into the same routine. To have him share your bed, to give and give as he takes, lusty promises against your skin that he doesn’t intend to keep because he knows you well enough that you won’t hold him to it.
Placing Mia’s gift bag on the kitchen island counter, you know you could follow him, let his lips trace a line down your neck.
Picking up your phone, you send off a text, heart skipping a beat at what you’ve done. For a moment, you don’t think there will be a reply.
Your answer comes swiftly, Santiago coming down the stairs.
I’m glad you made it home safe.
🌤
Santiago follows you up the stairs, your silk robe billowing out behind you.
“I liked the pictures,” he tells you once you reach the top of the stairs. “I’ve always loved the color green on you.”
“Why are you really here?” you ask, turning around to face him. His shirt is half unbuttoned, revealing a hint of the chest tattoo.
“I told you,” Santiago reminds you. “I wanted to see my girls.”
“Since when?”
He leans against the wall, his arms crossed over his chest when he narrows his gaze.
“Since I saw the pictures you sent me. You’ve always held people’s attention. A child’s birthday party is no different.”
“I wasn’t sending them to you to make you jealous.”
He smirks at your passionate denial.
“And I’m not jealous. I know every inch of your body, every little nook and cranny that makes you come apart. They don’t know you the way I do so no,” Santiago says with a sigh. “I don’t think you were trying to make me jealous, but I think you’re lonely. I think the men in that picture know it too, judging the way they were staring..”
“I’m not.”
He gives you that perfect smile, looking you up and down.
“We both know how this always ends. We’re good for each other. Maybe not emotionally but physically, we’re compatible and we always have been. There’s no one else I would have wanted to have my child, to be the mother of my precious daughter. I can’t get enough of you still.”
He pushes himself off of the wall, settling his hands on either side of your face, your fingers wrapping around his wrists. It feels euphoric, his lips close to yours, body pressed against you, and it feels familiar, like you aren’t living separate lives when he kisses you.
“I can’t,” you whisper against his mouth, his forehead resting against yours.
“You can. I’ll take care of you like I always do.”
Your hand flattens on his chest, feeling his heartbeat when you close your eyes. You want to, you already know how it would end, tangled in sheets and alone when you wake.
Satisfied but alone, yet again.
“I can’t sleep with you anymore. This isn’t healthy for either of us. You can have the guest bedroom,” you answer, moving away from him as he lets you go.
“Guest bedroom,” he repeats, seeing you head toward your bedroom. “I’ll leave the door open if you need me.”
Closing the door behind you, you lean against it, squeezing your eyes shut as you ignore the ache between your thighs.
🌤
Sun shines in your eyes, startling you when you toss away the blanket, looking down to find yourself still clothed, clad in your shorts and t-shirt. The sigh of relief that flows from your lips gives you a sense of calm, nearly laughing to yourself that you had the willpower to deny the man who you’ve willingly given your body to after the divorce.
The savory scent of breakfast hangs in the air, scrambling to get up when you look at the time. It’s well past the time you had meant to wake up, running down the stairs to stop in your tracks.
Santiago cracking another egg in the bowl while Mia carefully picks out pieces of fruit to place them on a tray. Bacon, pancakes and oatmeal is on the table, something you haven’t had the time to make in at least six months with Mia’s busy school schedule.
“Oh, you’re finally up,” Santiago greets you, Mia dropping a strawberry on the counter as she hops off the step, running after you when she clings to your legs.
“Hi Mommy! Daddy and I are making breakfast!” Mia announces loudly, standing on her tiptoes to see what her father is doing. “I want an o-mel-le.”
“Omelet,” Santiago corrects gently, Mia nodding.
“Yeah, one of those!” Mia agrees.
Santiago cleans as he works, wiping off a counter before he checks on the omelet he’s making for Mia.
A ripple of resentment goes through you at the thought of what this means. He and Mia always make breakfast together when it’s his week with her. It’s something Mia looks forward to when she’s packing her suitcase to see her father, knowing that the best you and Mia can do is a rushed breakfast of toast or instant waffles.
Father of the beginning of the day, you think, sitting at the table after Mia points to your chair, Santiago placing a glass of orange juice in front of you.
“Breakfast is almost done,” he reminds you. “Coffee?”
Before you have a chance to answer, a mug of hot coffee is placed next to the orange juice, Mia giggling when he turns back to the stove, flipping the omelet over as she claps her hands excitedly.
Mia whispers to her father, the hushed discussion reaching you. Curious, Mia covers her mouth when she sees you staring.
“Secrets don’t make friends,” you tease her gently.
“We’re going on a tour!” Mia blurts out, Santiago plating her omelet, holding it high above her head.
“A what?” you ask, Santiago placing her plate down and lifting Mia onto the chair.
“A tour,” Santiago repeats.
“I heard her,” you protest, Mia grabbing her fork as she stabs into her breakfast. “A tour where?”
Santiago sits across from you, Mia focused on shoving a piece of fruit in her mouth as he looks at the breakfast spread and back to you.
“We’re touring St. Mary’s today.”

“You weren’t suppose to be Spider-Man.”
Miles had been MIA ever since he got back from his last mission in capturing Spot. He was hard man to catch but after some time and working as a team they were able to capture him and put him on lock down, making sure that he was no where near anything that could help him escape.
It was Noir who noticed the teens absences after a day. The kid was usually attached to his hip and never left his side, other times he would come see him and rant about things that happened in school or the times that he saved people and the stories he would tell, but not today.
Miguels lab was too quiet.
It irritated him.
Even though Miguel and him have started to fix up their marriage again, he was still under house arrest until further notice from his own husband, not being allowed to leave without permission, but the cat was getting anxious. A small voice inside his head was telling him to search for the kid, to check up on him and see how he’s doing. The parent inside of him wanted to crawl out and do what a parent would do when their kid was suddenly missing.
So, without Miguel’s knowledge he leaves base.
He makes sure to block Lyla from tracking him in case Miguel finds out that he’s gone. As much as he cares for his husband he didn’t want to deal with his anger if he were to find out that he left without giving him a reason. When arriving to Miles universe he makes sure to appear on the rooftop of his parents apartment, knowing that it was the weekend and that the kid usually spent his time at his parents house, being with them and catching up.
With slow movements he looks over the roof to where Miles bedroom was, getting ready to climb down and slide the window frame open only to freeze when he sees Miles dad leaving the apartment with a deep sigh, following after him is his wife. “Don’t worry. I’m sure he will come back and help.” Said Rio as her husband shrugs his shoulders. “Spider-Man hasn’t showing up in nearly two weeks. Who knows if he’s coming back.”
His words catch Noir by surprise, eyebrows furrowed as he stays hidden on the rooftop and watches the couple interact with each other before he quietly slips inside Miles room to find it empty. He takes in the teens room, never had he entered the kids room without permission until now, taking in the interior and the way the kid kept it organized and messy at the same time.
He found Mile’s sketch book lying open on his bed finding the open pages to a sketch of both him and his uncle, simple drawings that the kid liked. He reached down to pick up the sketch book, only staying on those pages before closing the sketch book and setting it down. The rest of kids room is messy and clothes was scattered everywhere, in the pile of clothes he finds his spider suit and frowns.
The kid never left without it as he gets down on one knee to pick it up, holding it in his gloved hands before hiding it under Miles bed and looking out the window, getting an idea of where the kid could possibly be as he jumps out the window, using his grappling hook to swing across the city as he searched for the kid.
The sound of traffic can be heard below him as he swings across the city, focused on finding the kid that he doesn’t notice the familiar red and blue following after him.
It only takes him a few minutes to reach the clock tower, landing on top to find the teen sitting on the edge, wearing a hoodie as he stares at the city view.
“Figured I’d find you here.”
His voice startles the poor teen, jumping in surprise as Miles sighs in relief. “You scared the hell out of me!”
Y/n chuckled as he sits down next to the teen. The two sitting in silence as they take in the city’s view and sunset. “You’ve been distant.” Y/n finally speaks up, glancing at the kid who lowers his head with a small shrug. “Sorry, just been…going through something.”
The thief wants to roll his eyes at the kids excuse, knowing that it was something more as he moves closer to the kid. “Sure its not something else? I mean, I’ve seen you upset and you still do your job as the cities hero but—‘spider has been missing for 2 weeks?’ Doesn’t sound like you.”
“What are you, my mom?”
“Technically, I’m still your guardian whenever you are a hero.” Y/n shot back, nudging the kid on the shoulder playfully, earning a slight laugh from him.
It wasn’t until he fell silent again, giving Miles the time to finally get the courage to speak. “Remember the mission I had with the others on capturing Spot?” Y/n nods at his words. “Well, he showed me something that I wished I didn’t know.” Miles sighs deeply, nervously playing with the strings of his hoodie, eyes focused on the material.
“What did he show you?” Y/n asks.
Miles hesitates before speaking up. “That I wasn’t suppose to be Spider-Man.”
Y/n froze at the comment, eyes widening under his goggles as he glared at nothing, blood boiling.
“He said that the spider that bit me actually belonged in another universe and that someone else was suppose to be bitten.” Miles continues. “I wasn’t suppose to be Spider-Man in the first place.”
“Miles—“
“That makes me an anomaly doesn’t it?” Miles turns to Y/n with sad eyes, realizing the mistake that’s happened in his own universe the realization that this whole time he thought he had a purpose only to find out that it was all a mistake. “Think Miguel will be upset?” Miles next words cause Y/n to blurt out. “I don’t give a damn what he thinks.”
Not knowing the Miguel was hiding behind the pillars, listening into the two.
“But, I’m an anomaly. I could destroy my own universe!”
“Or you can change it.” Y/n’s words catch him by surprise while the adult sighs deeply. “Not everything has to go according to plan and not everything can go the way it needs to be.”
“But, there’s a universe out there without a Spider-Man—!”
“They don’t need to be bitten by a spider to be Spider-Man.” Y/n’s voice grows stern with the kid. “Yes, that universe is in need of a hero but it doesn’t have to be a spider. Before Spider-Man they were once a smart kid and the universe will always find a way to fix things on its own. They may not have super strength or webs, but they damn sure know how to create something new.” He reached up to lift his goggles and mask, slipping it over his head as he smiles faintly at the kid.
“I’m still an anomaly…” Miles mutters.
“Then so am I.”
Miles stares at him confused. “What do you mean?”
Y/n’s fingers tracing over the tinted goggles, sighing deeply. “Ever Black cat is the same. They betray people, use them, greedy, a good thief.” He laughs. “But most importantly they always use Spider-Man in their own little mind games.”
Miguel shifts in place, leaning his head back against the pillar.
“I’m nowhere near that.” Y/n shakes his head. “I became a thief because I was struggling, later I found Miguel and his daughter and put my second life on hold to focus on my relationship only to get married and have a family I always wanted. A happy family.”
Miles listens intently.
“Even after I lost my daughter…and then Miguel I still remained loyal to both him and Spider-Man. Yeah, we have our quarrels here and there, but I never stopped loving him. Never used him like others would, never moved on because of how wrong it felt and whenever I got to close to him again I wanted to run away, to stop our future from getting bad again. I grew afraid until now.” He explains to Miles, eyes focused on his gloved hands. “I changed my own fate and so far it’s been going well.”
Miles sighs softly after listening to Y/n’s explanation knowing that everyone’s fates changes, weather its good or bad the universe always finds a way to fix it. “You think my universe will be fine?”
“Your universe will be fine, Miles.”
Both Y/n and Miles whip their head over their shoulder to see Miguel standing before the two, hands on his hips, wearing his spider suit as his mask dissolves away, showing his face to the two. “Your universe won’t suffer.” Said Miguel again, giving Y/n a soft kick on the thigh, indicating for him to move while Y/n glared at him playfully and moves aside, giving him space to sit between the two. Clearly the cat already knew that he would get caught by his husband but didn’t think that he would react in such a calm manner.
Miguel grunts, siting down between the two and sighing deeply. “Y/n’s is right, not everyone’s universe is perfect. Yes, you are an anomaly, but that doesn’t mean that your fate can change and their isn’t anything I can do to fix it. So, all we can do is sit back and watch as the universe decides for you.”
Miles nervously picks on his sweatpants, picking on a small lose string as he pulls on it gently a nervous tactic that he picked up along the way. “I guess my universe wanted you both to be in it, right?”
Both Miguel and Y/n look at Miles with content smiles while Y/n looked at Miles proudly. The kid had gone through a lot as his first few days as the cities hero, losing his uncle along the way as the poor kid suffered on his own, unable to tell anyone that he was their when his uncle died without revealing too much of his true identity until he met Y/n the talent thief that was also Miguels husband. The thief couldn’t have been happier to have met Miles, cherishing the kid and taking him under his wing and treating him like his own son too.
“Guess they really did.” Y/n is the first to speak up, standing up from his spot and rounding Miguel to tussle Miles hair before standing near the edge of the clock tower. “Now, I think its time for Spiderman to make an appearance, don’t you think?” He questions as he slips his goggles on, giving them a knowing smirk as he held out his grappling hook.
“Meet you both at the bank!” He shouts, jumping off the building with a laugh as Miles watched Y/n swing away, turning to Miguel with a confused look on his face while the other sighs deeply. “He’s just giving you a reason to make a good entrance.”
To show the city that their hero has returned while Miles slowly smiles at the idea of Y/n using himself as bait in order to “lure” Spider-Man out, knowing damn well that he was speaking to him not too long ago. “Want to help me?” Miles asks Miguel as the older hero raises a brow in surprise before his lips twitch into a grin. “He won’t go easy on us.”
“How about a bet?” Miles stands from his spot. “Whoever catches him first gets my moms special empanadas.”
“Your mothers empanadas are good, better than Y/n’s.”
Miles laughs. “Don’t let him know that you said that or he will kill you!” He shouted as he too jumps off the clock tower, using his hoodie to hide his face as he swung back home to pick up his spider suit that he left lying in his bedroom, stepping inside the room as he quickly changed into the suit with Miguel waiting outside for him.
“Come on kid, we don’t have much time if we wish to catch Noir.” Said Miguel, sticking his head in the window with his mask still off while waiting for Miles who struggled with putting his suit on. “Yeah just give me a second!” He grunts while trying to slip on his suit while Miguel watched the teen struggle with putting it on, reminding him why he changed his own suit design to nanotechnology, making it easier to use.
“Miles—“
“Done!”
“What the fuck?!”
Both Miles and Miguels eyes widen as they turn towards Miles bedroom door that was thrown open. “Hello, Mrs. Morales.”

The morning sun filtered through the kitchen window, casting a warm glow on the worn wooden table. You sat there, lost in your thoughts, as if the weight of the world rested upon your shoulders. Your mother’s gentle voice broke the silence, pulling you back to reality.
“What are you thinking about, sweetheart?” Her words cut through the fog in your mind. You turned to face her, your gaze still distant.
“Oh, nothing, just here,” your voice barely audible.
“Alright,” her tone calm and understanding. “Richard is coming over today to speak about some matters.” Her eyes held concern, and you wondered how much she truly knew.
“That’s fine, Mom,” you assured her. “I’m going to town anyway.” You stood up, your chair scraping against the floor. “Take care, okay? And be careful.” Your mother’s voice spoke again as you walked toward the door. “I’ll be ok mom, thank you” you turn to face her before turning around and walking out the door.
As you stepped outside, your father sat on the porch, gazing into the distance. The concern etched in his eyes caught your attention. “Hey, Dad,” your voice carrying the weight of uncertainty. “I’m going to town. I’ll be back.”
His response was simple, yet it lingered in the air like a silent plea: “Be careful.” And with that, he turned away, leaving you to wonder. *Why did they both look at you with concern? Was it because Richard was coming over?*The unspoken questions swirled around you, like leaves caught in an autumn breeze.
Outside, the wind whispered secrets, and the world seemed both vast and suffocating. Richard’s impending visit weighed heavily on your mind. *What matters could he possibly discuss? And why did it feel like the walls were closing in?*
The sun climbed higher, its rays breaking through the canopy of leaves overhead, casting dappled patterns on the road. The town was not far, but with each step, the questions in your mind multiplied. The concern in your parents’ eyes was not just for your safety—it was as if they anticipated the turning of a page, the beginning of a new chapter that they were not yet ready to read.
The bustling streets of town enveloped you as you settled into your favorite café. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingled with the lively chatter of passersby. You gazed out the window, watching the world go by, lost in your thoughts.
And then, there he was—Alastor—walking by as if he belonged to the very fabric of the city. Your coffee threatened to spill as you stood up abruptly, abandoning it on the table. You dashed out, your dress fluttering in protest against your haste. Alastor's long legs carried him swiftly, but when he walked with you, he deliberately slowed his pace.
*Was it because he was late? Or perhaps he was following someone?* You couldn't be sure, but you tried your best to keep up. As he turned a corner, you called out to him, breathless and determined.
"Alastor!" The man ahead of him slipped into a side door of one of the theaters. Alastor halted, turning toward you with a bemused smile. "You found me, dear," his voice a curious blend of frustration and surprise.
"Yes, I found you," you managed to say between breaths, your hand pressed against your chest. The sight of him had sparked an impulse within you, a desire to be near him that you couldn't ignore.
Alastor's presence filled the semi-darkness of the alleyway, his gaze holding yours with an intensity that seemed to pierce through the shadows. "Well, here I am," he declared, his arms sweeping open in a welcoming gesture before falling back to his sides, his smile unwavering.
Without hesitation, you closed the distance between you, your arms encircling his slender waist. The familiar scent of his cologne enveloped you, a comforting embrace all its own. He responded in kind, his arms wrapping around you, his back arching slightly as he rested his chin atop your head. You could feel him breathing in deeply, taking in the scent of your hair.
As you leaned back still hugging him, your gaze met Alastor's beautiful honey-brown eyes. The unspoken tension hung in the air, a delicate balance between desire and uncertainty. You wondered if he felt the same pull, the magnetic force that drew you toward him.
His smile remained, a silent acknowledgment of the unspoken connection. And then, his voice—a gentle caress to your ears—pierced through the moment. "Should we go somewhere, darling?" his words both invitation and promise.
You hesitated, curiosity bubbling within you. "Sure," your heart fluttering. "Where should we go?"
Alastor's eyes held yours, and he leaned in slightly. "Let's take a little walk around town," he suggested, his smile unwavering.
You both let go of each other, Alastor offering his arm, you accepted, leaving the alleyway. Your fingers rested lightly on his sleeve as you strolled through the town. The storefronts were a colorful blur, but your focus was on the man beside you, the shared laughter and light-hearted banter making the time slip away effortlessly.
Finding yourselves back at the familiar café, Alastor chose a table with a view of the evening’s gentle descent. The world outside the window was awash with the hues of twilight, painting a serene backdrop.
“Would you like something to drink, dear?” Alastor’s voice broke the comfortable silence.
“No thank you” your voice was gentle.
Then realization dawned on you as swiftly as the setting sun outside the café window. Time had slipped away in Alastor's company, and now the day's end beckoned you home.
"Alastor, I gotta go," urgency lacing your words. "I know we haven’t been here that long, but I need to head home." Thoughts of your parents, their potential worry, added weight to your decision.
Alastor's response was as gentle as the evening breeze. "Of course, darling. Would you like me to walk you home?" His offer was a beacon of comfort in the growing dusk.
"Yes, thank you," you replied without hesitation. The thought of navigating the streets alone, especially with whispers of people going missing, sent a shiver down your spine. But with Alastor by your side, the journey seemed less daunting, the night less foreboding. Together, you stepped out of the café.
—————————
As the silhouette of your home loomed ahead, you made the decision to part ways with Alastor. You turned around to face him, the evening's memories etched in your mind. "Thank you, Alastor," your voice carrying the weight of gratitude.
His smile remained, enigmatic and captivating. He arched his back slightly, bringing himself to your level, hands elegantly clasped behind his back. "You're welcome, dear," his words a soft echo of the moments you'd shared.
With a quick peck on his lips—a fleeting connection—you stepped away, walking toward your house. The familiar door welcomed you, and you entered, the warmth of home enveloping you. You headed toward the window, glancing back one last time. Alastor stood outside, a shadow against the night, and as you waved, he returned the gesture. Then, like a wisp of smoke, he vanished into the darkness.
“Who are you waving to sweetie”
Your mother's voice, like a sudden gust of wind, pulled you from your thoughts. You turned to face her, her concern etched in the lines of her face. "No one, Mom," you offer a smile that didn't quite reach your eyes.
But her next words sent a chill down your spine. "Alright, well, we need to talk." The sadness in her voice mirrored the heaviness in your chest. *What could be so important?*
Together, you followed her into the living room. Your father sat there, his gaze distant, as if lost in a world beyond the walls of your home. You took a seat, your heart racing. The room seemed to hold its breath, waiting for the truth to unravel.
"I don't know how to say this," your father began, his eyes avoiding yours, fixed on an unremarkable spot on the wall. "Say what, Dad?" Your curiosity was now tinged with anxiety. The air thickened with unspoken words, and you braced yourself for what would come next.
"We have arranged a marriage," your mother's voice was steady, but her eyes, those windows to the soul, revealed the turmoil within. "And you will be leaving this house in a week."The words hung heavy in the air, a suffocating blanket of disbelief and betrayal.
“You will be marrying Brian,” the name fell from her lips, a man that you didn’t love and now claimed a piece of your future. You sat, frozen, as the reality settled in your bones. Arranged to marry without your consent, without your heart's agreement. The question screamed in your mind, *How could they? Why?*
It was a betrayal of your trust, a disregard for your feelings. Your voice shattered the silence, a mix of shock and defiance. "What!" It was the cry of a cornered animal, of a child whose trust had been broken. You had believed in them.
Your mother's confession, her apology, it did little to soothe the sting. “We're sorry, sweetheart. We didn't want this, but we believe Brian is the right one for you." Her words were a lifeline thrown into turbulent waters, but your father remained silent, a statue of regret.
The revelation was a cruel twist, a transaction made in the name of love, yet devoid of its essence. The world you knew was crumbling, and in its place, a stark reality was taking shape—one where choices were made for you, and your heart's desires were secondary.
The confrontation with your mother was a clash of wills, a battle between tradition and the yearning of the heart. "No! I will not marry him," you declared, your voice a firm testament to your resolve. Your mother's stance was equally unyielding, her belief in the arranged marriage unwavering. "You’re all grown up, and it’s time for you to be married," your mother insisted, her eyes searching yours for signs of acquiescence.
"I’m in love with someone else," you countered, rising to your feet, a physical manifestation of your emotional stand. But your mother was immovable, her words a dismissal of your feelings. "What’s done is done, you need to stop seeing him and move on; you’re going to be a married woman soon."
The words stung, a betrayal that cut deeper than any knife. "I trusted you," you whispered, the hurt evident in your eyes. The tears threatened to spill, but you held them back, a show of strength amidst the turmoil. "I didn’t ask for this, you should’ve spoken with me first." Your plea was a last-ditch effort to reach your mother, to make her understand the gravity of the situation.
For a fleeting moment, your mother's facade softened, a crack in the armor that suggested a mother's love still lay beneath. But the moment passed, and the walls came back up, leaving you standing in the wreckage of her trust, your heart racing with anger.
“Did you accepted money?” The silence was deafening, a tacit confirmation of your worst fears. The question hung in the air, unanswered, yet the truth was clear in their avoidance. They had accepted money from Richard, a price tag placed on your future, your happiness bartered away without your consent.
The realization hit you like a wave, the pieces of the puzzle falling into place with a cruel clarity. Richard's visit to your home was not one of mere acquaintance but a transactional prelude to the life they had chosen for you.
With a heavy heart, you ascended the stairs, each step a reminder of the life you were being forced to leave behind. Tears streamed down your cheeks as you lay in your bed, the soft fabric of the sheets a stark contrast to the turmoil within your heart. You wanted to run, to escape the reality that felt like a vice around your future. Alastor’s image danced behind your tear-filled eyes, his kind eyes and gentle smile that had always been your solace.
You were leaving this house in a week, a house that was no longer a home but a prison of expectations. The walls seemed to close in on you, suffocating you with the weight of tradition and transaction. *Why did they do this?* The question circled in your head, each one a sharp jab to your sense of worth.

second A/N: for some reason i can't write chapters on my phone because the letters are black. I have it in dark mode but i didnt have that problem before. does anyone else have that problem?
gif is not mine!
May 2018
Charles Leclerc was a gentleman. That's how I remember him. The way he took care of me after the several rounds of sex we had. He is definitely the kind of man I don't ever want to forget. He was very sweet and caring.
But he was only a one-night stand. I don't really know him, as him. The fact that I have to tell him I'm pregnant with his child absolutely terrifies me. I wish my parents were here. If they were, I don't think I would be in this situation.
Charles sent me the address where he was staying at. As I got closer to the place, I realized it was the same place where I woke up. Is this his apartment?
Steph left me at the doorstep. I needed her as moral support, just in case things didn't go as planned.
"Go," Steph said as she hugged me. "I'll be waiting in the car, don't worry. If he does anything, we'll sue him. You have the money for it"
Money wasn't a problem for me. I just wanted him to be there, I'm scared and I don't want to do this alone. I know Steph is here for me, but it is not her responsibility at all, it is mine and his.
I took a long breath and rang the bell. Steph went back to the car and after a few minutes, Charles opened the door.
He had such a bright smile on his face. "Oh, cara mia," he pulled me into his apartment and then close the door. He grabbed my face with both of his hands and try to kiss me but I pushed him slightly by his chess. His thick brows frowned a bit and then he asked, "What's wrong?"
I looked at him in the eyes and said. "We need to talk"
February 2023
I walked to my bookstore with Mateo in hand. Steph was the first one to greet us.
"Auntie!" Mateo let go of my hand and ran to my best friend.
"Maty!" Steph got down to the level of my kid and hugged him. "Uff, why are you getting so big, huh? How is my favorite godson doing?"
Mateo laughed. "I'm your only godson, tia" (aunt)
"How would you know, Alexander Jules?"
"Mommy told me, and Mommy would never lie," he pointed at me. "Verdad, mami?" (right, Mommy?) he looked back at me.
"Si, mi amor (yes, my love)" I nodded at him. "Stay with your tia (aunt) while I check stuff in the store, okay? And don't forget to pick up a book" I told him, to which he nodded.
Mateo Alexander Jules Y/l/n is four and one quarter. He likes to remind people of that. He is the most educated boy I know, and I'm not saying that just because I'm his mother, but because it's the truth. I have seen other kids and they are horrible, ungrateful brats. I hate kids. Except for my son. I want to think I did a good job raising him. He looks a lot like Charles. From the eyes' color and shape to the dimples to the hair, to the lips.
I walked around the store, checking books that needed to be restocked and putting some books back in place. I went to the cafe and got my regular iced coffee.
I walked around again until I got to my favorite section. Murder & Mysteries. In there, I saw a lady. Probably in her mid-50s. Blonde hair, she was dressed casually. She was looking around at the books. Picking one up, reading the back, and then putting the book back on the shelf.
"Do you need any help?" I asked her.
She turned around and looked at me up and down. "Oh, dear. I thought I was alone. You work here?"
"Something like that," This answer seemed to confuse her. "Is there anything I could help you with?"
She turned her sight to the books again. "Well, I'm trying to find a good mystery book but none of them catches my eye. I'm looking for something similar to Alexander Y/l/n or Perla Campos. They are my favorite authors"
I stared at her for a second. What are the odds? I looked back at the bookshelf until I found the book I was looking for. "This one should do."
She looked at the cover and asked "The Seven and 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle?"
"It's not as near as good as what Alexander Y/l/n and Perla Campos used to write, but if you like their books, I'm sure you'll like this one," I explained as I see her read the back of the book. "Another option would be 'The Secret Inheritance' by Cassandra Matthew." (lmao idk if that book is real)
I handed her the book and she took it gladly. She read the back and then looked at me. "These are very good suggestions! Thank you, dear. What's your name?"
"Y/n," I told her.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Pascale"
August 2018
Pregnancy wasn't easy. I never thought I would cry so much in the span of 5 minutes just because I ran out of my favorite gelato.
Today was my fifth visit to the doctor, and I was nervous as hell. I am more bigger than a regular pregnant woman, it has me fearing for my baby's life or even mine.
"Okay, Y/n. You know the drill. Lay down, and lift your shirt up. As always the gel is cold" Dr. Williams said. She is always so gentle with me. Maybe she pities me.
"I have concerns," I told her. She looked at me as she was putting on the gel. "My belly looks bigger than normal, is that okay?"
"It depends, in most cases, yes. It means the baby is healthy. But let's take a look" She moved her sight to the machine. The image of my baby appears immediately in the sonogram. She moved the transducer to another spot on my belly and I could see her eyes widen a bit. She was going on up and down in the same area. "I think I have a better answer to your question." She looked at me and said, "You're having twins"
February 2023
"Mami, can I read Nancy Drew?" Mateo came running to me as he showed me the first book in the series.
I looked at the book and say "I don't think so, love. It might be too much for you. This is for bigger kids"
"But I am a big kid!" The old lady, Pascale, laughed.
"This is your son?" she asked.
I nodded with a smile. Mateo looked at Pascale and stayed quiet. He knew it was rude to interrupt conversations. He got behind me, hiding.
Pascale tilted her head for a moment, narrowed her eyes a bit, and murmured "He kind of looks like... never mind. What's your name, little boy?"
He looked at me for a second. "Answer her, baby. It's rude to not answer to elders" I told him.
"I'm Mateo with one T" he lifted one finger.
This made Pascale laugh again. "Nice to meet you, Mateo with one T"
"Why don't you take the book to Tia and tell her I say to check it out" Mateo nodded and ran towards the register, he stopped for a second and came back walking.
"Goodbye," He said to Pascale while giving her a little waving and then walking back to the register.
"He looks like a bundle of joy," Pascale said as she sees Mateo walk away.
"He is," I agreed. "Is there anything else I can help with?"
"No, that's all. Thank you for the help. I'm ready to check out."
We walked to the register and started the process to check her out. I did the usual routine. I asked if she had an account with us, which she didn't, but she decided to get one.
"Okay, Pascale. What's your last name?"
"You can just put an L," I did as she told me. As I was checking out her books, she said "This is such a pretty bookstore. I have never been here before."
"Thank you," I said.
"She's the owner," Steph spoke as she was playing hands with my son, who shushed her for butting in the conversation.
Pascale looked at me with wide eyes. I laughed at her reaction. She inserted her card and paid. I put her books in a bag and grabbed one of the coupons. "Here is a ten-percent coupon to use on your next visit!"
"I will definitely come back. I need to tell you if I like the books or not."
"Oh boy," I laughed.
"I might even bring one of my sons with me" Oh boy... This isn't the first time a mother has try to set me up with their kids.
"Please do!" Steph yelled. Mateo put his small hands in her mouth and murmured a small 'no tia, don't talk'.
"See you next time, Pascale"
"Bye Y/n," She walked to the entrance as she passed my boy, she turned and say "Goodbye, Mateo with one T"
"Bye-bye."
After she left the store, Steph turned to me. "She didn't say goodbye to me. How rude?"
"Jesus Christ, Steph. Why would you tell her that?" I elongated the a in 'that'.

I know I left you guys with open scenes between the first and third scenes but everything is for a reason!!! I might do Charles POV on the next one!!! Trust the process guys, things are going to get sooo good.
If you guys don't know (just in case) Pascale is Charles' mother.
Please let me know what you think of it. I would really appreciate any type of comment, whether is your opinion or just anything! It would def motivate me to keep going. I would really appreciate if you guys like and repost as well! So other people can be aware of this story.

A Court of Vice and Victors
by @wishcamper Acosf rewrite where Nesta actually gets help and she and Cassian have a healthier dynamic, plus an Illyrian murder mystery
Pages Turned
by @climbthemountain2020 A character study on Nesta Archeron, the hardships she's faced through her life, and how they've shaped her as a person.
Could You Love Me While I Hate Myself
by @witch-and-her-witcher Humans have just been freed from servitude to the fae after years at war on Prythian and times are desperate for Nesta Archeron. With Feyre MIA and Elain a shell of herself, her options are becoming increasingly limited. When one of the young fae warriors, Cassian, who has carved a name for himself on the battlefield proposes to her after recognizing a mating bond between them, Nesta doesn't see any choice but to agree to take him as her husband and move herself and her sister to his home Court and the wilds of Illyria. War brings them together, a bond binds them - but is that enough for two broken people to find love with each other?
Firm and Fragrant Still the Brambleberries
by @foundress0fnothing When Nesta became a nurse at the start of the war, she could not have predicted a patient as challenging as Lieutenant Cassian Davies, nor he a nurse as captivating as her. As the same war that brought them together threatens to tear them apart, Nesta and Cassian must navigate the complexities of love and duty to find the way back to each other. A WWI historical AU.
Wreck My Plans, That's My Man
by @c-e-d-dreamer Drummer for the Bat Boys, Cassian has a large following, but sometimes Nesta doesn't appreciate fangirls calling themselves "Cassian's future wife."
It Looks As Though You're Letting Go
by @Darkcat18 (on ao3) Everyone is born with an arrow on the back of their hand which points to their soulmate at midnight on their eighteenth birthday. After her parents' disastrous marriage and her father's subsequent depression following the death of her mother, Nesta realized a soulmate is nothing more than guaranteed heartache and ruination. On the eve of her eighteenth birthday, she packs up her car and leaves her family and life behind forever. What she doesn't count on, however, is having a soulmate like Cassian, who may be the one to prove to her that a soulmate is what she needs.
I Guess It's Half Timing (And The Other Half's Luck)
by @moodymelanist Nesta and Cassian have a steamy one-night stand while out celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, but their lives are changed forever once Nesta realizes her period is late. Follow along as Nesta and Cassian navigate preparing to become parents, balancing their other life stresses, and figuring out their feelings for one another!
Amidst the Madness
by @This_Immortal_Hope (on ao3) Love and war have always followed the same rules: Quick to ignite, slow to extinguish. There aren't many things Cassian has dared to openly want in his 500 years of existence. Not even the position he currently occupies as Lord of Windahaven (far too lofty a spot for nothing more than a well-blodded bastard, if you ask the other Illyrian Lords), but from the second Nesta Archeron stepped foot in his camp, the entire world ebbed into a single truth. She is his. He is hers. Everything else - the war he is meant to lead, the people relying on him, the legacy he should be fighting to protect, cease to exist the second his eyes are caught in roiling silver flames. There is pain in this female, his female. And retribution will be exacted. Rhysand has his war, and now so does Cassian. Whether the two align ... only Nesta can give that order.
Sweetest Con
by @separatist-apologist Nesta Archeron has been trapped in witness protection for the past five years, hiding a secret no one can ever learn. All she has to do is wait out the criminals back home determined to punish her and her sisters for a lie they told years before. She can handle anything- even the new agent sent to keep her safe.
The Whole Truth
by @TheTeaQueen (on ao3) A beautifully heartbreaking story about what if Papa Archeron used/sold Nesta back in their village, and the IC learning this truth. It features Rhys and Nesta sibling bonding over their respective SA traumas. And Cassian helping Nesta to heal and feel comfortable with touch again
The Nesta Variation
by @persegrace (on ao3) A modern AU where Cassian is a military vet and Nesta is a former ballet dancer. They're both dealing with trauma, and meet in AA.
Ultima Ex Nobis
by @fieldofdaisiies Six years into a global pandemic which was caused by a mass fungal infection that turns hosts into zombie-like creatures and makes the whole of Prythian collapse, the former army general Cassian Cadell is tasked with one very special mission – escorting Nesta Archeron, one of the few immune survivors, across a post-apocalyptic Prythian to a group of people of the name L. Their identity is unknown but they can make an antidote.
you make my motor run
by @wilde-knight When Nesta and Cassian are set up on a blind date, neither of them can imagine their families feeling whole again. But with sparks flying between them, will they finally be able to imagine the road ahead?

Part 10 of the Mamma Mia series
As promised, the following morning the three of them show up to your hotel room with breakfast. You gratefully accept the take away mug Mark hands you as you let them in. It reminds you of that first conversation you had with the three of them at the beginning of September and you can’t help but feel a little emotional at how far you’ve come since then.
Sitting down at the small breakfast table in your room, you accept the smoothie bowl Kevin hands you. It’s a little cramped, but all four of you fit around it. Lewis and Kevin catch you up on how their teammates and some of their closer friends on the grid fared during the race while Mark fills in the gaps with what he’s heard from DC and Jenson.
“I can’t believe the FIA ever thought this weekend would go without a hitch. The fact that Pirelli set very strict pit stops windows tells you all you need to know, really,” you say, shaking your head.
“I’ve heard rumours that they’re looking at moving it later into the season to avoid these high temperatures,” Mark adds.
“That’s the least they can do. Greedy vultures,” you reply, muttering the last bit under your breath, earning a chuckle from Lewis.
“Wait,” you say, a realisation hitting you, “if we’re really doing this, does that mean I am also adopting an Australian rookie?” Mark laughs, head thrown back.
“I guess so. Hope you’re alright with that?”
“I mean, Mick has become like a little brother. Him and his family are the closest I have to one. Him and Jasmine; she’s my oldest friend. I-.. I cut contact with my parents when I was in my early twenties. They’re very religious and it got to a point where it became detrimental to my mental health to allow them access.” Even remembering their disappointment when you went into engineering and not pursued a career in teaching –which was deemed much more suitable for a woman by your parents– makes you feel about two inches tall. It was impossible to live up to their standards and their constant meddling in your love life to find you a man so you’d settle down and become the perfect little house wife messed with your perception of love a lot more than you even realised.
“That’s also why I completely panicked when I realised I am in love with all three of you,” you continue, pushing through the uneasiness of the memories, “A relationship is meant to be between one man and one woman according to them, and while I have done a lot of unlearning over the years, this took me by surprise.”
“Thank you for trusting us,” Kevin breaks the silence that follows. He rests a hand on your knee, giving you a reassuring squeeze.
“I’m trying. When you’ve been on your own for so long it’s hard to let people in. But I want this to work, not just for me but also for this little peanut,” you say, putting a hand on your stomach.
“We’ll follow your lead, sweetheart,” Mark says, to which Kevin and Lewis nod in agreement.
“I know we will have to let at least our teams know about what’s going on, but outside of that can we hold off until the end of the season? I hadn’t considered the logistics of dating three people and it’s a little overwhelming.”
“Works for me,” Kevin nods, “and how about we try to have a proper sit down dinner with the four of us at least once a week? We can think about next steps after the season, but that way we’ll at least see one another outside of the track.” You mull this over. It’s not a bad idea, even if it might prove difficult to get everyone in the same place without living together.
“I’d like that,” you reply.
“I don’t mind us using my house in Oxford for that. It’s got plenty of space for everyone,” Mark offers. You shoot him a thankful smile; staying in the UK as much as possible while you figure out next steps does make it a lot easier for you with regards to your responsibilities at the factory. The anxious flutter you had felt from the moment you had woken up is slowly disappearing, and in its place a calm washes over you. You know that it is not going to be easy, navigating this relationship with so much media attention and different moving parts, but you also know you owe it to this baby to at least try and make it work. There are five races left this season, and with the triple header coming up, you know it is going to be mayhem.
“Wanna call Toto together?” Lewis asks you, bringing you back to the present. You nod, but bite your lip.
“I just-.. Before we do, I just need to know that you’re all okay with raising a child that might possibly not be yours by blood. I know how Kevin feels, but..” you trail off.
“As long as they’re healthy and happy, I don’t mind. I just know that I am looking forward to doing this alongside you,” Mark says, pressing a kiss against your temple before getting up to go phone his boss.
“Same here baby. Family is more than just blood. I can’t wait to be one of three dads for peanut and spoil them and you,” Lewis reassures you.
The phone call with Mercedes went about as painless as could be. After what happened and your reaction on Sunday, Toto had his suspicions that the two of you had begun dating. The fact that Kevin and Mark were now also part of that didn’t seem to phase him whatsoever, or if it did your boss had the acting skills to not let it show. You did have to promise him to give Susie a call whenever you felt like you needed a girly chat.
“That wasn’t so bad,” Lewis muses, pulling you against him. You hum in agreement, content to just stay like this for a minute when the peace is rudely interrupted.
“No. No, you listen to me Gene,” Kevin seethes as he paces the length of your hotel room, “Do you genuinely think they are spying on Haas? We are dead fucking last, what kind of delusion are you smoking?” Kevin looks up and locks eyes with you. Without a moment's hesitation you get up from the couch and cross the room. Kevin holds out his hand and visibly relaxes ever so slightly when you lace your fingers together.
“Guenther had no issues with this relationship. What difference-..” He’s quiet for a moment as he listens to the team owner. Whatever excuse Gene is giving him, it’s the wrong one; Kevin’s eyes flare in anger as he clenches his jaw. A quiet fury simmers through your veins at the way Kevin is being treated. The magnitude of this feeling takes you by surprise, this notion of how you’d go to war for him –for all three of them. You know Kevin doesn’t need you to fight his battles, so instead of taking the phone from him to tell his team owner just what you think of him, you squeeze his hand.
“No, let me stop you there. I know my sponsors well enough to know that this won’t change anything financially. And even if it did, I am sure that there are plenty of brands who will gladly take their place if it means they can boast about their so-called diversity pledge. And if you talk about my family like that ever again, I quit.” Before Gene can even respond, Kevin hangs up and throws the phone onto the dining table. You take his face in your hands, brushing a thumb over his cheekbone before pulling him closer for a hug. Kevin wraps his arms tighter around you, burying his face in the crook of your neck.
“You alright, mate?” Mark asks. Kevin nods, taking a deep breath before straightening up.
“Steiner was no issue, surprisingly. Gene is a different story. Guenther had forwarded the information because it involves an employee of a rival, just out of courtesy. That fucking idiot first insulted my intelligence by saying how they are using me for information on Haas, and then began some rant about how this would cost the team money, and then came for me personally with some homophobic slurs I don’t feel like repeating.”
“I’m sorry man. If there’s anything we can do,” Lewis offers. Kevin nods gratefully.
“I’ll let you know.” You can feel your nose prickle with tears at how ready they are to help one another. The fact that Kevin referred to the four of you as his family isn’t lost on you, and it fills you with so much love and gratitude that despite everything, you have found a home in these three men.
I can't believe it's almost over, I have been working on this fic since October. There's an epilogue left which will come next week
Again, biggest thank you to @curiousthyme for being my beta reader. I would be lost without you babe 😘
Please let me know your thoughts, your comments, tags, and likes mean the absolute world to me 💜

─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
After being dropped off by Jude’s parents, you stayed on the couch for a good hour thinking about how bizarre the whole day was. You didn’t even want to check your phone right now, so you just left it in your living room and went directly to get a hot shower.
While undressing, you noticed that you had dinner while wearing Jobe’s jersey. Hah, now it made sense why so many people took double looks at you. Not that you cared.
You just wanted to relax for once. The whole process of getting ready for bed got you in a better mood; so after doing your skincare and drinking some tea, you felt ready to check your messages.
There were some texts from the girls and some from Jobe. You went for Jobe’s first since they were the most recent.
✉️ Jobe: Thank you for the weirdest night ever
✉️ You’re welcome?
✉️ Jobe: No, seriously. I haven’t seen Jude this happy for a while now
✉️ Jobe: He’s close to giggling and kicking his feet like a little girl
✉️ lmao
✉️ Maybe that’s because I told him I was going to unblock him
✉️ Jobe: Did you?
✉️ Not yet…
✉️Jobe: Well, maybe you should
✉️ Oh my god??? What’s happening???
✉️ Jobe: I talked to him, just… Maybe? I won’t force you tho
✉️ I’ll consider it
✉️ Jobe: That’s good enough for me… Have a good night, darling
✉️ Good night, sweetie
Odd. What could possibly be happening that Jobe was (kinda) defending his brother? You didn’t blame him, obviously. But… Again, odd. With a shrug, you hopped on the girl’s group chat, which had lots of messages from hours ago.
✉️ Nikki: Weeeeell…. I was casually checking the TikToks people were posting about the game… You know, to see how it was going
✉️ Nikki: THEN… Girl, you went a bit viral agaaaaain. You appeared on the big screen and SOME people saw the little interaction Mr. Jobe and you had. The football fandom is going crazy again, a lot of people are debating if you’re his girlfriend or Gio’s girlfriend
✉️ Mia: Since none of them had said a word about the rumors… People are kinda taking sides
✉️ Mia: I also saw that after the first half some girls were looking for you because they were near your seat and you were gone. Then they noticed you were sitting next to THE Jude Bellingham and went on trying to figure out if you were his girlfriend instead while taking videos and photos to POST?!
✉️ Nikki: MESSY
✉️ Oh god… I just saw this… WHY ME, LORD?!
✉️ It’s like… For each day of peace I get, ten days of absolute chaos are piled up on my door
✉️ Nikki: It’s the drama, the fun, the footballers, the fame
✉️ Nikki: Our beautiful little WAG
✉️ Mia: If it’s not with douchie, it’s with that Gio guy
✉️ Mia: Heʼs hot af
✉️ Mia????
✉️ Do you want his number?
✉️ Nikki: Omg, Miaaaa
✉️ Mia: Both of you… Shut up. This isn’t about me finding Gio the hottest man alive, this is about YOU getting shipped with half of the footballers you know
✉️ Don’t remind me of that, please
✉️ I’ll better get some sleep before the vein on my forehead explodes, bye my loves
✉️ Nikki: Bye baby! Sweet dreams
✉️ Mia: Score a goal!
✉️ Fuck you lmao
Great. You were never getting rid of that stupid “popularity” among the football fanbase… Well, at least among the people that cared about the player’s love lives. They knew your face now, even if the subject of who your “boyfriend” was died down. You were out there forever for people to see and have an opinion.
Time to sleep.
You were on your way to turn off the lights and wash your cup when the telecommunicator started to ring; you almost let out a scream. Who on Earth was ringing your house at two A.M?! With your heart beating like crazy, you ran to answer and yell to the jerk on the other side.
“Miss! I’m so sorry to bother you this late but…” Mel’s words were interrupted by some loud male voices. “There’s a couple of gentlemen asking me to allow them into your floor…” Oh, poor Mel.
You couldn't scream to your sweet doorman Mel.
“Mel! Hi... Gentlemen? As... Men asking to come here?” This was unbelievable.
“Yes, uh. They'd been here for at least ten minutes. I'd tried to persuade them into leaving but nothing works."
“Do you happen to recognize these gentlemen?” Your gut feeling was very reliable, so you kinda knew who it was.
“Well… I’m not so sure about it, but I think that’s… Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham, miss.”
He surely knew them at first sight, but it was adorable he was trying to dissimulate it.
“Oh, my god…” You sighed. When was this going to end? “Just… Let them in, Mel.”
“As you wish.”
You wanted to punch someone so bad right now. But you just stayed there, by your door, waiting for what seemed to be the night of never end.
No less than five minutes later, your door was being punched at. Because that wasn't a knock. You considered for a moment letting them outside, but you weren't going to sleep if you did that.
When you opened it, the silliest sight welcomed you. There was Bukayo, a mutual friend that you haven't seen in very long, carrying (if you can call that carrying) a very drunk Jude. How did you know he was drunk? Well, he was (seemingly) asleep against Bukayo's side, only kept from falling because of his friend's arm around his waist.
“Okay...” Was the first thing that came out of your mouth. “This is... Something.”
“So sorry to do this at such late hours... He's been so insistent. He got a bit too drunk and started to ask about where his girlfriend was and that he wanted to come home.” Bukayo's eyes went blank, sighing. He seemed pretty sober to you. “I tried to persuade him into visiting you tomorrow, but this guy never takes no for an answer.”
“That sounds like him.” You smiled at him apologetically. Because what else could you do? No one knew you two had broken up, and this wasn't the best moment to break the news either. “Let's take him to the couch, I'll help you.”
You got closer, feeling the smell of alcohol reeking from Jude. Iugh. You took one of his arms, putting it around your shoulders. Hah, and just a couple of hours earlier you were trying to avoid just that. With a lot of effort, both of you laid him out the best you could. That didn't mean that it was done in the most careful way. So he woke up, looking at you and then at Bukayo.
“Am I dreaming, mate?”
“Nah, fam. I did what you asked me; I took you to your girl.” He palmed Jude's arm and then smiled at you. “Now I'm out, this whole thing tired me up.”
“That's okay. Thank you for taking care of him.” You gave him a little hug after guiding him to the door. “I hope we can catch up another time without this type of thing going on.”
“Me too.” He smiled again, looking as sweet as ever, and then turned and left.
Now you were alone with...
“Darling?” Oh no, not the darling.
You turned, looking at Jude, who was struggling to keep himself sat upright. He was looking at you with the most drunken-hazed eyes ever, accompanied by the biggest of smiles.
“Yes, Jude?” It was better not to argue with a drunk person this late at night.
“Can I tell you something?”
“Yeah, sure.” You got closer, sitting on the carpet. Not too close, but not too far away from him. “What is it?”
“I'm an idiot. I'm so dumb, I got drunk tonight, and I miss you.” The smile left his face, but he was still looking at you with happy eyes. “Every time I see your face, I remember that I'm mad dumb for breaking up with you. Because I still love you. A lot.” He let himself fall back into the couch pillows, sighing. “I don't know why I panicked so much a month ago. It was a stupid chat.”
“Sorry?” Your heart was beating fast because of his past confessions, but this new phrase caught your attention way more. “What chat?”
He wasn't looking at you. He was just looking up at the ceiling, like he was trying to remember something.
“Just some stupid chat the coach gave us before you arrived at Dortmund that day... He was talking about how we, as professionals, had to settle in earlier so we didn't get carried away because of all the money and parties... And the drugs. He said that there was a reason for footballers to get married and have kids at such young ages.” He sighed again, looking tired. “And I knew he was talking to the younger part of the team, which included me... I just... I felt like I was being pressured to marry immediately... I got so carried away with my thoughts that I panicked when I saw you. You make me so happy, but I didn't feel ready for any of the coach's options.”
“So... You broke up with me instead of talking?” Woah. “That's fucked up, Jude.”
“I know... And I'm not asking you to forgive me or... Get back together with me... Even though that's what I have been wishing since I said the words, but... I wanted you to know.”
He didn't seem drunk at all now.
“Thank you for telling me.” That's all you could say for now. Too much information to take in.
“Would you have said yes?” He asked after a few minutes of silence, still looking at the ceiling.
“To what?”
“Marrying me.”
You felt like someone punched your heart and took the air out of your body. At the same time.
“I won't answer that.” Mostly because you didn't know the answer. “Get some sleep.” You got up, looking down at him.
“Why not?”
You took a long look at his face. You gave him a little smile, reaching for his cheek with one of your hands. You caressed it with the tip of your fingers before regretting touching him at all. He closed his eyes, but opened them when you retrieved your hand.
“Because there's no point in answering something that's not going to happen.”
He frowned, looking offended for a second before relaxing his face again.
“Well, I haven't asked you.”
“And you shouldn't, because that's something you do when you're sure about it... And not drunk.” You took one of the covers you kept close, tucking him on the sofa so he couldn't move. “And when you're in a relationship, of course. Now sleep or I'll kick you out of my house.”
“Okay...” He appeared so similar to a kid now, all flustered and with big eyes. “I'm sorry for all of this.”
“I forgive you.”
And that was true. You forgave him for all of it. You couldn't hold a grudge forever. It wasn't healthy.
“Really?” Hope sparkled in his eyes. It made your heart ache.
“I promise.”
Then you got closer and kissed his forehead to prove him right about your words. He gave you the biggest of smiles, again, before falling asleep right there. You gave him a last caress on the cheek before turning the lights off and walking towards your bedroom.
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
You thought it was impossible to get any sleep after what happened, but the moment your head touched the pillow, you were out. The stress was draining your energy. You blacked out until the next morning, when a knock on the door woke you up.
You remembered everything that had happened just a couple of hours ago. There was Jude, knocking on your door like he was a stranger. Somehow, it felt like it.
“Come on in.” You said after a few seconds, rubbing your face.
The door slowly opened up. Jude was still covered in the blanket, holding it together with one hand below his chin while the other rubbed his eye. Pretty much the same as you. You couldn't help but smile a little at the sight.
“Good morning.” Even his voice had a little hint of shyness.
“Did you sleep well?” Was all you said while you got up and walked towards the bathroom.
“Yes...” He followed you, just two steps behind. “Thank you.”
“Stop saying 'thank you', just come here and brush your teeth.” You grabbed one of the brand new toothbrushes you kept in the drawer, offering it to him.
He seemed so scared yet happy about your behavior while taking the toothbrush. You weren't fooling anyone, it was fun to play with his mind a little bit. Payback.
He stood there watching you brush your teeth, wash your face, and brush your hair. It was very funny.
“I'm not going to suddenly take a knife out and follow you around the house with it, Jude. Get cleaned or you won't get breakfast.” You got out of the bathroom, smiling at him when he just blinked at you. “All yours.” And then you left him alone in there.
You entered the kitchen, ready for some breakfast. You heard the bathroom sink go on and off for a few minutes. Meanwhile, you decided to make some scrambled eggs with ham and toast some beagles. It was the best you could offer with so many thoughts taking most of your concentration.
When you were finishing the second plate, Jude appeared by the door and stayed there. He looked at the plates with surprise, like it was actually impossible for you to be making breakfast for him.
“It's getting cold.” You offered him one of the plates that was already sitting on the mini table you had available.
“Are you preparing me for my sudden death, darling?” He sat in front of you, waiting for you to take the first bite. He always did that.
“Not yet.” You took a bite off the beagle, smiling when he did the same. “Maybe after I eat.”
He smiled but didn't say anything. You ate in silence, looking at each other from time to time. You felt different around him now that you knew what caused him to break up with you. It wasn't that you suddenly forgot about everything else or how mad you felt, but it made things easier. You wanted to talk. Now there was a real reason for it.
“I'll wash the dishes.” Before you could say anything, he took both plates and stood up.
“Go ahead... And after you finish them, we'll talk.”
“Do I make some tea first?”
“Yeah, that'll be nice.”
He seemed to understand what was crossing your mind, so he made the tea quietly and walked to the living room. You followed him.
“Well...” You took a sip of the tea. “Do you remember what you said last night?”
“I do...” He squirmed on the seat. He was nervous. “I wanted to tell you all that sober but... I fuck up things quite regularly.”
You smiled, shaking your head.
“Okay, it's good for the sake of this conversation that you remember everything. Now, when I said that I forgive you, I meant it. But that doesn't mean I'm not angry or hurt by all of it.” He nodded. “I'm still disappointed about how poorly you managed the whole thing; you just needed to talk to me, and the breakup would never have happened.”
“I know.” He covered his face, sighing. “I'm an idiot.”
“Yeah! Look at me, I spent a month thinking you didn't love me anymore, and it turns out that you just were a bastard that didn't know how to talk to his girlfriend.” You slightly pushed his arm with your foot. “You said you didn't love me as you used to... Why?”
“I don't know.” He groaned, taking his hands off his face. “I guess I wanted you to hate me. I’ve never stopped loving you.” He grabbed your ankle, dragging your leg closer to his body. “I think I love more than before, actually.”
You didn't say anything for a while, you just looked at him for the longest time, trying to figure out what to do next.
“I'm very mad at you.” You took a deep breath. “That club thing you did after we broke up is still fresh in my mind. I can't pretend everything is the same just because we talked.”
“I know. I'm a jerk for doing that. I just wanted to see if... If I could act like I was okay. I wanted to feel okay. And couldn't accept that I regretted breaking up with you the second you left.”
“Always your big ego, huh?” You laughed. “Don't take this as if we just got back together. We're... We're friends from now on.”
“We are friends for now.” He said, smiling. “Because I'll do everything that's in my power to win you back.”
“Whatever you say, Bellingham.”

These are just my personal thoughts and imaginations on my fav fictional character.
After 10 years from the day they found eachother that is from being an little secret to lovers to husbands to parents,a unexpected incident happened in nikobran life that is BRANDON KING GOT KIDNAPPED thats when bran first met alex--Alexander a 4 year old boy who had an abusive parents and terrible life.. got kidnapped by the same person who kidnapped bran.
After a lot of fights and damages,Nikolai and landon found bran and found the kidnappers who are serpants,(Simon one of Niko's ex boytoy),and NOAH (new character who is Landon bestfriend from young age and had a obsession on bran since young age )
Niko and lan also found alex and take both of them to hospital but alex never spoke one word to them and brandon was in ICU WARD after a while they found alex parents who done many things that never a parent will ever do to thier child they are just worst than psychos.
Landon felt something in his heart that is like his twin brother wants to say something but he can't like he can feel something is off about alex parents and brandon told him before getting unconscious to take care of alex that's when he even cared to know the name of the little boy.
In the hospital hallway where all peoples are waiting for the doctors to tell them that bran is awake they already told them that bran is out of danger and they treated his injuries .Landon king is not okay they already told alex parents to take alex with them but he is feeling so nervous and anxious and an unknown feeling of doing something wrong which his brother will never forgive them for.He felt his breaths are constricted and had an panic attack for the first time in his entire life .
There is also one thing which is unaware to others are landon king and Nikolai sokolav became a friend's like they both understood thier first priority is Brandon king and over the years bran and lan became very close since Bran's insecurities and every traumas are healed which made him separate from his other half and Landon really like really felt thankful to niko for giving him his little bro back And landon forgived MAYA SOKOLAV which niko felt thankful to lan.so there are certain things happened which made landon realised that niko is an scary sunshine and can be around with.BUT their this little understanding and friendship is hidden from all except bran. They don't want others to know this.
(Yeah there will be an solid explanation on Maya sokolav story since i felt rina ruined their bond and just gave an one sided explanation so i thought about her pov too.but but but Ilya levitsky is NOT THE BOYFRIEND. Yes Its is true they both dated but breakup after Mia-Maya things and The one who will be maya's boyfr--husband is VAUGHAN MOROZOV really in my ideas he will be an gentle man like truely gentle man to maya and treat her very gently since MAYA is his childhood love and will be his forever love........)
So back to landon's panic attack, Everyone around him don't even know what is going on when niko came forward towards him and helped lan to calm down leaving others in pure shock.
After That lan stopped alex parents from taking alex back and waited until bran wakeup .
The fist thing after bran woke up he asked is alex ......first time in their life bran asked lan and niko to kill someone that too alex parents .first time they saw alex speaking to bran and that's when bran told alex ,AS I PROMISED YOU ,I WILL HELP YOU I WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU FOR THE REST THE OF LIFE AS MY SON ALEX!!I WILL GIVE YOU LOVE AND SHOW YOU WHAT IS TRUE FAMILY IS...❤️❤️
Flashback Alex:Bran...once we are free from this peoples you will be back to your family and give me back to my parents?? I am afraid bran ...please don't give me back..they will beat me and punish me by leaving burns on my skin if i speak anything ...That’s why i stopped speaking and they thought that i lost my voice .. your are the only man i spoke after so long bran..
Bran: i promise you I WILL HELP YOU I WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU FOR THE REST OF LIFE AS MY SON ALEX!!I WILL GIVE YOU LOVE AND SHOW YOU WHAT IS TRUE FAMILY IS...❤️❤️ flashback end.
After bran told those words to lan and niko they don't need an explanation because if bran says he needs someone killed then they must really deserve that.
After that Brandon king and Nikolai sokolav adopted Alex a.k.a ALEXANDER Brandon sokolav king as thier second babyboy .Alex may not speak with anyone in their family now other than Bran but time heals everything right..oneday alex will understand them and trust them to speak with them ...
After 1 year they welcomed their third kid STELLA HUNTER SOKOLAV KING, princess of the family, a babygirl through surrogacy.Niko was so adament on having a girl kid in thier family and it was also a wish of bran .

In your opinion, would Princess Viserra's fate have changed if she had been promised to Lord Manderly's heir, and not to him?
That is to say, if marriage to the Manderlys were necessary to formalize a pact with the North, perhaps a handsome husband of the same age who would make her Lady of White Harbor would be more interesting to the young princess.
I won't hold back. NOTHING about Viserra's storyline makes any sense short of all the characters having a stroke.
Perceptive and compassionate Alysanne, who previously demonstrated considerable matchmaking skills, suddenly becomes very bad at it. (Don't get me started on Elio Garcia's attempt to defend Alysanne's OOC behavior as her being jealous of her own daughter's beauty.)
Jaehaerys suddenly becomes an absentee father from the 1950s rather than, you know, a medieval king for whom his daughter's marriage is of the utmost political importance.
Septon Barth? Grand Maester Elysar? Both MIA.
Theomore Manderly? If he was truly canny, he would have seen the offer for what it was and declined it.
Its true, the best way to tie the North closer to the south (and more specifically the Iron Throne) short of House Stark is House Manderly. However, marrying Viserra, a princess (and the prettiest one at that) to Theomore entirely defeats that purpose. One, a fat man old enough to be your grandfather is hardly appealing on a personal level, especially to a teen princess who knows just how attractive she is. Two, any children Viserra had would come behind four wives' worth of stepchildren, practically guaranteeing that the future Lords of White Harbor won't share any direct blood ties to House Targaryen, which brings me to my third point. Marrying Viserra to Theomore more or less dooms Viserra's line to obscurity and she herself to a life of dependency on the charity of her stepson.
What, then, would have made way more sense? Marrying her to Desmond, who, as Theomore's great-grandson, would probably be fairly close in age to her, not to mention higher in the succession.
Now, to answer your question, yes I absolutely do believe Viserra might have lived a longer (and perhaps even fulfilling) life if her parents had picked someone other than Theomore Manderly to be her husband. Remember, the whole reason she was even out and about the night of her death was because she wanted to have fun one last time before resigning herself to her fate. If she had instead been looking forward to her wedding she wouldn't have had any incentive to sneak out, which makes the chances of her suffering a tragic accident the way she did in OTL astronomically lower.
Thanks for the question, @diegoedil

sirius meeting mia and monty for the first time?
James and Sirius left their compartment laughing, Remus and Peter behind them. Remus looked outside the window.
“That’s my cue to leave, then,” He said, jovially, pointing to a man with greying hair and a blonde woman. “That’s my Ma and Da.”
“Have fun during the holiday, Remus!” Peter smiled, hugging his friend tightly. “And write to me! Don’t forget about me, well, us, in Wales!”
Remus laughed, pushing his trolley. “I won’t — and look, your mum’s next to my parents! We can go to them together!”
They said their goodbyes to James and Sirius, who looked through the crowd for their parents.
“Oh, look,” Sirius said, grimly. “Those are my parents.”
“They look like — don’t tell Mum I said that — utter pricks. And they’re a few metres behind mine. Come on, let me introduce you to them!” James grinned, already making his way through the crowd towards the Potters.
The first thing that Sirius noticed was that both of them looked much older than his own parents. The second was, they looked kind. Mr Potter had James’ square jawline and long nose, yet the boy had his mother’s kind, brown eyes and big lips.
“Mum, dad, this is my best friend, Sirius!” James said, excitedly, gesturing to the other boy. “Sirius, these are my Mum and Dad!”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mister Potter, Missus Potter.” He shifted, rather awkwardly. Even though he was a member of a family which was much higher up in society than the Potters, Sirius was still eleven, and James’ parents commanded a kind of quiet respect that wasn’t quite as pronounced as the one his parents demanded, but was there, nonetheless.
“Please,” The man laughed, and his voice was a few octaves lower, but almost the same as James’, “call us Euphemia and Fleamont. We don’t really do honourifics, you see. Puts a wall between us and the, ah, youngsters.”
“We saw your parents,” Euphemia said, her voice tinged with something that sounded like displeasure. “They’re a few metres behind us. You’re always welcomed to Floo over, though, if they’ll allow you to; you’ll be welcomed. A friend of James’ is a friend of ours,” She beamed, warm and sweet and motherly.
Sirius smiled. “Thank you. I, er, should get going,” He said, yet he didn’t want to.
“Don’t have too much fun during the holidays without me!” James winked cheekily, before engulfing his friend in a hug.
“Yes, because diners and soirées are such great fun,” He said, his voice dripping with irony, but returned the hug. “See you soon.”
James waved excitedly as Sirius pushed his trolley away, sighing as he met his mother’s cold eyes.

My connection went off so idk if my ask just sent but. I was wondering your thoughts on post Robin Jason, because idk what his deal is at this point and writers don't seem to either. I don't think he's a heartless killer who should be hated and hunted by the entire family but I don't like this fanon "Jason is 100% right about everything and everyone else is the problem" idea either, when they put him in the family he feels really out of place and random and it's just.. one moment he's trying to kill Tim and the next he's the best guy ever with the softest heart?? I don't know there has to be a middle ground right?? I just can't get into Red Hood as a character due to this
Thank you for being so incredibly smart, reasonable, and intelligent.
You're exactly right. I think this is the same issue that's been affecting the Robin Dick vs Robin Jason mischaracterizations as well as the batgirls' that have been predominant in the fandom post 2020. Tim and Damian's motivations and personality have stayed the same from when they entered to now but Dick, Jason, Cass, and Steph have all grown as characters. Who they started out as, they've changed from then to now which has led to some confusion about their personality and motivations.
For Jason in particular - no, he shouldn't be hunted to the ends of the Earth for the things he did. He was hurting and acted out of pain. However it's irresponsible to refute those actions and blame other characters for them.
Jason was originally meant to be a villain. He was supposed to be like Freeze, a sympathetic villain - a character who despite their evil actions is understandable. All Freeze wants is his wife, Nora, back. He loves her and commits horrible acts that don't justify his actions but it makes sense. You're supposed to feel complicated about characters like him because they point out exactly why morality is grey. What Freeze does is wrong, but he does it for the right reasons. It's ultimately still wrong which is why he gets imprisoned.
That is Jason. Jason's actions were never supposed to okay. In what universe would creators who spent half a century working on and developing characters be okay with another character trying to kill them? What about that is acceptable? But it's not just trying to kill Tim (who only escaped by outsmarting Jason) or trying to kill Damian, the crimes he did are not acceptable.
He bombed Gotham just because despite knowing he didn't need to. He was willing to kill innocent children, men, women, and civilians for Dick and Damian were chasing him, after they helped him.
Batman and Robin (2009) Issue #25
In the Red Robin Comics, he was willing to use children as bait during a gang war.
Robin (1993) Issue #177
Not to mention Mia Dearden.
But at the same time, he killed people who hurt children
Red Hood: Lost Days Issue #3
Initially Jason's morality was a swinging pendulum. He was as likely to kill kids as he was to protect them. He didn't care about the lives of civilians if it meant getting away or completing his plans.
Batman/Superman (2013) Issue #26
Here Superman says he wants to save a kid so Jason argues that to save him, they need to poison the environment and wipe out several countries.
That's why Bruce struggles with Jason so much. Over his lack of care for people's lives. It's not the murdering of criminals that Batman is caught up on which is where I believe the misunderstanding in fanon comes from. It's his fear that by his own hands, Bruce created a deadlier version of the man who killed his parents.
Batman vs Robin Issue #3
So no it's not fair to blame everyone for Jason's mistakes and claim him innocent, but it's also not fair to say Bruce had nothing to do with Jason's mental state. If he had shown a little less hesitance at the reappearance of Jason in Under the Red Hood, if he had shown a little more love then Jason probably wouldn't have gone as crazy as he did after coming back.
Because he saw Jason killing everyone, Bruce fell into his worst possible explanation of Jason, knowing the pain he was going through but succumbing to selfish actions to protect himself.
Jason's tough to deal with for writers because even when the batfamily reaches out, Jason is the one that burns his own bridges. When Dick begged Jason to take his hand during the Battle for the Cowl, when Dick and Damian helped Jason save his friend during Batman and Robin (2009), when Bruce saved Jason and fought alongside him against a couple members of the Secret Society of Supervillains, Jason immediately turned around and killed people and bragged about it.
In Batman Urban Legends, Jason tells Bruce that he has given up guns to which Bruce is grateful but it's also not for him. It's a sign that Jason is turning a new leaf especially given how caring he was with the kid, calling him Blue Hoodie. That was so sweet of him. The current Batman family comics are a sign of things changing between Jason and the family. What has happened up until now is not the family's fault, especially when they've reached out for the sole purpose of extending an olive branch only to have it burned and tied to a person in return. But now things are slowly changing and writers are trying to show that.
Jason's story is story of growth. He didn't come back to save people, he came specifically for the sake of hurting Bruce. But over the years, the repeated attempts of the family (Dick and far less Bruce) of bringing Jason back into the fold has helped him move past his anger. To slowly become adjusted and settle down.
Writers have struggled to know what to do with a character that canonically wants to be included in the family but rebuffs their every attempt to include him. They finally figured out the problem was Bruce - hence his fight against Jason and his exit in Gotham War. I'm assuming now that Jason will become more involved in Batman comics.
As a character currently though, I think of him as a lone ranger. He works independently but he'll show up for family meetings and big events. He'll also join family dinners if he's coerced but for the most part he likes to run on his own or with his team.

Curious if you think Johnny, peanut, and Lola have/had siblings or if they're just only children. Personally I always hc johnny and lola as only children but felt that peanut had a younger sister who passed away.
why hi anon!!! this such an interesting question, thank you!!
i remember reading that hc, yep!!
i hc all the three of them, however, to be only children (i think they're the only greasers that i do??). in fact, for all three of them, this fundamental isolation is their childhood is, in the way i read it, what shaped some of the way they socialize and influences a lot their interactions.
as for johnny, the thing is that his parents were both in the drug dealing circles of new coventry, hence why they were in prison for a while- his father was actually pretty important in the neighborhood, while his mom mostly helped and did other legal jobs (which is also why she got out earlier). and johnny learnt both how to be a man and how not to be a man from his father- he taught him strength and roughness and to never take a hit but punch harder. but he also taught that johnny didn't want to hit his woman, didn't want to leave the house for a smoke to cool his head when she was crying and threatening to hurt herself because of him, didn't want her to be his slave.
in this framework, i think that him having, say, a brother would sort of... scatter the relationship his father has with him, the attention and, almost, the pressure to be worthy of being treated as a peer. which is something i really like to read for johnny. and i also like the idea of him having had his mother as the only woman in his life, before lola. call him a mama's boy, but he learned to take care of his mother before he even questioned how to deal with an eventual girlfriend. so he has learned to take care of the people he has around himself, such as peanut, almost in a way that replaces a paternal figure as protector of the house. but also internalized some very specific notions about masculinity and virility that he totally projects onto the relationship with lola.
ultimately, i think, the whole point is that the way he lives the relationship with lola in particular is basically a result with having grown up with the only reference in his house of close human interaction as his parents, and having to sort of step up where they lacked in the sole spousal relationship.
with peanut, my hc is that his mom had him when she was very young, sixteen years old, and she was... basically on her own, really; the boy she had had him with had fled as soon as he had a chance, her dad was on the other side of the ocean and her mom was basically mia (i still have to figure out the logistics of this, since, when i first elaborated it, i forgot for a while that Laws Existed, LMAO, and i was already too far in the creating process to change that), so she had to raise him on her own. and peanut spent most of his childhood in his living room, waiting for his mom to come back home, watching the vhs she had rented for him and reading the motors magazines. it's there that he fell in love with greasers, crushing on marlon brando and james dean, the shiny motorcycles and the raw leather jackets.
he basically had to live with himself, you see. also bc his mom, so young and unprepared, was very overwhelmed most of the time, and- i did post a quick snippet of a scrapped chapter of my fic already, actually, so you can get a broad but more detailed idea of their relationship if you want!! either way, point is. larry had to learn to tend to himself at a very young age, dealing with the loneliness and his own sensitivity, running from eventual kids of the neighborhood, who liked to take advantage of him being much smaller than most of them, trying not to take up too much space and upset his mom.
so of course, when he met johnny, older, proud, powerful as a sun, promising to take care of him, it felt almost unreal, something he never thought he could have wished for nor something he thought he deserved. some kind of care and protection hed never learnt to receive, and that he hang onto for dear life because suddenly... he wasn't on his own anymore.
(sometimes parents are just Contextual Objects. other time they are fully fleshed ocs with a backstory and a whole personality. turns out despite everything immacolata romano is really my child and i am so so fond of her and id have soo much more to say abt her relationship w peanut. but i digress)
and lola- i'll admit, shes the one i bounced back and forth about the most, in trying to imagine her family's situation. (in fact, if you see any reference to her family in my older fics/post, no you dont) at some point i even considered the idea of her having a much older brother who would sort of fill in for some absent father figure, but then i scrapped it. i think that, in her case as well, having grown up alone with her parents' relationship as a reference makes potentially much more sense than any other possibility i considered.
lola has a quote, in which she says "i'm so old, my life is almost over!" when... she's just?? sixteen??? seventeen??? i think it's because, see, her parents got married and had her when they were young, maybe nineteen or twenty- yknow, as soon as it was legal for the both of them without too many loopholes. however, the relationship was very unbalanced and fundamentally deteriorated, perhaps not from the beginning but very soon. her father being dominant, violent, arrogant and such. and her mother has always been bitter, subdued but angry and resentful at her husband, at the golden expectations she had, at her womanhood and, of course, at her daughter. she's always seen her as living proof of her own wasted beauty and youth; but, especially as soon lola started growing up to the age at which girls start being looked at by the boys, which we unfortunately know how soon it is, saw in her what she felt she'd lost. so she'd often remind her how lola was the reason why she is now a ruin of a woman, why she went from a beautiful and promising girl to an old and unattractive hag.
again- her being the only child helps focus on her the kingpin of this dynamic, especially on her mother's part. so lola grew up knowing what can happen to women, what remains when the fairytales of the princess marrying the prince crumble with the remnants of childhood. she realized at eleven, twelve years old how men were starting to look at her in the street and she knew what the next step would have been. she was reminded every day of her life. so, when she walked into bullworth, into the relationship with johnny, all she knew is that she wouldn't have ended up like her mother. knew that she wouldn't have fallen in love, wouldn't be tricked by the sweet words and the dreamy gazes. and she knew that she had no weapons to defend herself but the very thing that could've otherwise been the death of her, that being the male attention. and finding a way to use johnny's attention specifically, with his blind devotion mixed to the obliviousness, to her own advantage... well, that's what her whole arc is about, isn't it.
as i write this, i'm starting to realize that her having, perhaps specifically a brother, might function as a tool to highlight the difference in treatment between her, a daughter, and an eventual son. however, i stand my case that i really like the idea of this whole dynamic of her parents and her mother in particular resting on her and her only, creating this sort of... tunnel vision in which her very isolation in front of her view create her idea of how the world works.
thank you so much for the question!! it was a lot of fun to answer + it helped me make some order among some concepts i had in my mind <33
#it was SO MUCH FUN i MISSED writing elaborated thingies like these!!! thank you sosososo much whoever you are out there <3333#and like as a disclaimer: i do not think in any way that being an only child automatically means being lonely and isolated and maladapted#but lkie consider also im mostly speaking in conceptual and thematic terms rather than realistically mimetically psychologically sooo#also fun fact: the scrapped idea of the older brother was actually recycled for...my very first oc...whom you will see......probably.......#one of these days.....*disappears in the woods*#another fun fact: has anyone around here seen the sea beyond/mare fuori? for some reason in my head i picture lolas mom and she looks a lot#like violas mom- not that they have anything in common just??? idk??? when you try and get an idea of the image. think of her#canis canem edit#bully scholarship edition#bully cce#bully#greasers#peanut romano#johnny vincent#lola lombardi#odyposts#odyanswers#odywrites

Urban Wyatt x Reader : YOU LOST MOMMY AND DADDY
A/N : I don’t know where I was going with this. I had a plan but it went all over the place like every fic I have lol so enjoy.
The moment you and Urban decided to take some time apart you had made a quick and judgmental decision and packed yours and your daughters stuff and moved back to Los Angeles.
You thought it would’ve been easier on you, but once you realized it was the complete opposite you decided to move back to Louisville KY.
Plus, Urban and Cassie didn’t deserve to be far apart from each other. You and Urban had one important rule, and that was to always do right for Cassie when it comes to coparenting, never let the problems between the both of you affect her.
So here you were settling into your new house with your best friend's help, while Urban and Jack took Cassie, Mia and Ezequiel out for some frozen yogurt.
“Are you sure you’re totally fine moving back here? I know those three months back in your hometown were hard, but I can’t imagine this being any easier.” Jess says.
“It’s not easy but it’s not hard either.” You shrug, “Him and I are in a good place and we’ll forever be tied down to each other. Plus, you and Jack have been a huge help and also Maggie, you don’t understand she checks up on me all the time and offers to watch Cassandra if I ever need alone time.”
Jess smiles, “We will always be here for you three, no matter what.”
“Thank you.”
◦•●◉✿✿◉●•◦ ◦•●◉✿✿◉●•◦
Two hours later Jack was walking in with the kids, but Cassie was having a full on crying session and yelling her little lungs out.
“Cassie, babygirl please relax.” Jack tells her.
"YOU LOST MY MOMMY AND DADDY." Cassie yells, tears running down her face, pouting at her Tio Jack.
“I know and I’m sorry.”
“No, no sorry, get my parents.”
“What is going on?”
Jack turns to face his wife “Babe, please help me, I don’t know what to do.”
“Cassie, what’s wrong little mama?” Jess kneels down in front of her.
“Ti-tio Jack lost my mommy and daddy.” Cassie whimpers out.
Jess furrows her eyebrows. “Your mommy is in the other room, baby.” Jess sees Urban walking in, “And look, there’s your daddy.”
“NO MY OTHER MOMMY AND DADDY.”
“I looked everywhere, I can’t find them.” Urban announces, scratching at his head.
Cassie glares at Jack “You big mean guy.”
“Cassie, please forgive me.”
She shakes her head “NO”
“It’s what you get daddy, you don’t lose something important.” Mia sasses Jack.
Ezequiel is watching the exchange while chewing on some baby carrots.
“It was an accident.” He turns to look at Cassie, “I promise to get you more.”
She glares at that “Noo, I want my daddy and mommy back.”
“Okay I’m confused now.” Jessica says, standing up. She’s looking at the kids, then at Jack and Urban, waiting for an explanation.
You finally walk into the living room and notice your daughter's face is red from crying. “Oh baby, what's the matter?”
Cassie runs up to you, so you carry her. “Tio Jack perdió my other mommy and daddy.”
You glare at Urban and Jack.
You rub at Cassie’s back, “It’s okay, I’m sure they’re hiding somewhere.”
“I’m still confused.” Jess says.
“Her Care Bears, she got them when we moved and she’s been attached to them, she calls them mommy and daddy as a play thing.” Urban explains.
“So recall your steps, where did you last see them?” You ask.
“Yeah daddy.” Mia says, “When was the last time you saw them?”
“I don’t remember.” Jack says.
“Where did you guys go? Maybe call the place and ask if they’ve seen them?” Jess suggests.
“I gave them to Tio to take care of them mami.” Cassie whispers out.
“I know but Ez was running around so I had to go after him and I don’t remember where they went after that.”
“Dad, it not my fault.” Ez says, looking at his dad while taking a bite from a carrot.
“I know little man, I’m not saying it is.”
“Let’s go see your new bed yeah baby? Meanwhile tio can look for them.” Urban says.
You, Cassie and Urban walk out the living room leaving Jack and his family there.
“Babe, what did you do? I can’t believe you lost her peluches.” Jess says.
“It wasn’t on purpose, I honestly thought I had left them in the backpack.” Jack is scrolling through his phone, texting Neelam and asking her for a huge favor.
“Y/N will probably have a tough time putting her to sleep if Cassie is used to sleeping with them.”
Jack sighs, “I’m working on it.”

“P-papi, I want my plushies.” Cassie sobs out.
Urban brushes her hair to the back of her ears, “I know mamas, take a nap and when you wake up, I’m sure they’ll be back.”
“But I can’t, I need them next to me now.”
“Hey.” You sit at the edge of her bed. “Estoy segura que tu papá y nino van a encontrar tus peluches.” You smile at her. “I’ll lay with you while they look?”
Cassie nods, “okay.” She faces Urban “Sorry I’m being baby, I just sad.”
Urban smiles at her, “You are a baby, and you’re allowed to cry over it.”
“I no baby, I'm three.” She puts up three fingers.
“Okay, you’re my big baby, how does that sound?”
“Good.” She nods.
Urban kisses her forehead and walks out the bedroom, leaving you and Cassie to sleep.
“Did you find them?” He asks Jack.
“No, but I found some nearby and Neelam is about to pick them up and bring them here.”
“Don’t you think Cassie will notice that they are new and not her actual bears?” Jess asks.
“Babe, what do you want me to do? I don’t know where I left them and I’m not about to have my goddaughter hate me.”
Jess shakes her head, “Relax with your dramatics.”
“I just can’t believe we lost them, hopefully Y/N was able to get her down for her nap. She was crying for them.” Urban says, taking in a deep breath.
“Way to make me feel more bad.” Jack mumbles out. He looks at his phone, “Neelam is here with backup.”
They both head to the front door.
“I can’t believe you dragged me out of bed on my day off, for all of these.” Neelam is glaring at Jack.
“That’s why you get paid extra.” Jack shrugs. “Thank you though.”
“Dude, why all of these?” Urban asks, looking at all the boxes in disbelief.
“Backup, now she has some extra and I can’t be blamed for losing them.”
“What’s all this?” You ask, walking into the living room with Cassie in your arms.
“Daddy bought Cassie more plushies.” Mia answers her, smiling.
Cassie asks to be put down and she runs towards the boxes of Care Bears. “You buy me new ones Nino?”
Jack nods, “Yeah, I’m sorry I lost your original ones.”
Cassie hugs him. “It okay Nino” she pulls back and points her index finger at him. “Don’t dos it again.”
“I promise.”
“Que se dice Cassandra?” You remind her.
“Ohhh, thank yous Nino Jack Jack.” She smiles.
“Want me to help you open them up mama?”
“Yes please, daddy.” She jumps excitedly.
Urban and Jack are helping Cassie open up all the boxes to free the bears.
“So.” Mia says smugly.
Everyone is staring at her now.
“We won’t need these then?” She opens up Jack’s carry-on backpack and pulls out Cassie’s original plushies.
“WHAT THE?!”
“MIA.”
“You had one job daddy, it’s a lesson.” Mia hands Cassie her bears. “I told you they were nearby.” she rolls her eyes.
“That’s not nice Mia.” Ez says, glaring at her. “You made Cashie cry.”
“It was a prank.”
“Mia, your brother is right, you know how important those were to Cassie. She was crying for them.” Jess tries to scold her.
“It okay, don’t be mad at her.” Cassie says. “I have all these now.” She points at the bears on the floor.
“Still not okay that you did that bug.”
“I’m sorry.” She groans. “Nino, Nina, I’m sorry I made Cassie cry.”
“Like you said, it was a prank. Your Nino and dad should’ve kept a good eye on all the items.” You reassure your goddaughter.
“See? All happy.” Mia smiles. “Cassie has her mommy and daddy back.”
“I’m confused?” Neelam says from her spot on the couch. She had stayed after she dropped off the boxes. “Y/N and Urban are done with their little petty break?”
“No.” You answer her. “She means her Care Bears.”
“And it’s not a petty break.” Urban says, staring at Neelam.
“Mommy, daddy, can you help me take all my daddy’s and mommy’s to bed?” Cassie asks, trying to carry all the bears.
You and Urban do just that, and help her get into bed so she can finally take her nap.
“So did you like my prank?” Mia asks.
“No young lady. You’ll be on time out.” Jack tells her.
“B-but why? Not my fault you lost them.” She shrugs. “I pick them up when you and nino were getting yogurt for us.”
“I blame Druski somehow.” Urban announces when he’s passing by to get a sippy cup with milk.
“I blame him too.” You yell out from Cassie’s bedroom.

urbanwyatt When Tio Jack looses your daughters favorite plushies, he stocks you up with bunch of them, only to find out his daughter had them all along 😅 it was a stressful day to say the least.
