the daena royce marriage question haunts me so

— option 2: daena marries before the dance. potentially as an awkward political match to secure the future of house royce, potentially as an awkward comphet situation, potentially as an escape route from daeron’s influence over her life as her father. her children would be too young to fight during the dance

dutch calling arthur a "large shadow cast by a tiny tree." is soooooo funny to me. yeah sure that might describe him. he puts on a front of being hard, cold, grizzled outlaw. but he's also got a really soft side and he proves over the course of the game that he can be so kind.

i feel like that quote describes dutch more than anybody in the context of intimidation. dutch casts a VERY large shadow. he's the leader of the van der linde gang !! hes a renowned gunslinger !! he is feared ad respected by his peers for his prowess and the way he charms others into believing what he's telling them. but the man himself seems a lot more small. his ego controls him. hes paranoid and insecure and he tries to play it off by putting on the gang. he cannot take failure in any form. he isn't very good at admitting he's wrong (the only genuine instance i feel of this is when he talks to hosea. he allows himself to admit he's wrong) just. a plethora of other things.

but i really feel that describes him well. because i think the best sum of it is benjamin byron davis's quote about how dutch is someone trying to be a good man and he doesn't even come close. yeah
