Finally Getting Help (prt 6)
Masterpost
The Wayne family gathered in the family room once Alfred was done setting up the projector, somehow there was also a plate of cookies and a couple pots of tea on the coffee table. How heâd found the time they didnât know, he always seemed to be doing just a little more than should be possible but they didnât question it.Â
Jazz seemed nervous as she plugged in her USB and accessed the power point on Ghosts and Liminality. The tidal page had a picture of Danny in his Phantom form standing with a group of others, a boy with gray skin and blond hair, a girl with green hair and skin, and a goth with purple eyes and a dark skinned boy who looked around Dannyâs age, and Jazz with the title âGhosts and Liminals!âÂ
The next slide had simple text: âWhat are they and How are they made?â
With each slide she read the text on the screen allowed and then added any context or anecdotes she thought of, or had prepared.Â
(Next slide)
Ghosts:
Made of ectoplasmic energy and obsession
Made either:
when someone dies with strong enough desires
An idea gains enough traction to take on a life of its own
Immutable concepts and gods
Must be allowed to indulge in obsessions or they will cease to exist
All have basic abilities such as flight, intangibility, invisibility, and minor shape shifting
On top of basic abilities most will have additional powers based on their obsessions
Immortal unless killedÂ
Love to fight
Liminals
Made when a human is exposed to high levels of ectoplasm for prolonged periods of time
Have some ghostly traitsÂ
Ghostly traits vary person to person
Less susceptible to human illness and injury
âThe ghosts on the picture are Kitty and Johnny, weâve had problems with them but would consider them friends now. Theyâre the ghosts of two humans who died, but there are others, Vortext for instance is the ghost of Storms. Those ghosts who come from ideas are called âneverbornsâ. There seem to be almost an infinite number of ghosts, however not all of them are interested in having anything to do with us so we tend to get the same faces showing up a lot in Amity.
âI donât know how many liminals there are. I thought they might be new with my parents' research but as I look into it more I think there are more natural sources of ectoplasm then my parents thought.â Jazz explained before going to transition to the next slide.
âI have a question-â Bruce started before Jazz hushed him.Â
âWait till the end please! I might answer it without you having to ask,â She scolded, and he felt very much like a schoolboy again as his children snickered.
(Next slide including a image of the glowing green viles in the Fentonâs lab and a glowing green crystal)
Ghost biologyÂ
Ghosts do not have any recognizable organs or bones
The only solid part of their being is their Core which is the source of their ectoplasmÂ
Any injury to a ghosts form not done directly to their core is considered minor and will heal
A healthy ghost is fully capable of mending any damage including removed limbs in a matter of hours or days depending on extent of the injury
All injuries not including the Core are considered minorÂ
Ghosts are considered young for at least the first hundred years of their existence and are often not considered adults until nearly 500
A caveat to this is ghosts are heavily driven by emotion and will often be the age they feel they are allowing ghosts to mature much more quickly, or more slowly
When this is the case ghosts are treated as the age they present and behave
Ghosts reproduce by shaping ectoplasm and Wanting a child badly enough
âBelieve me it was incredibly scary the first time I saw Danny in his ghost form have something go right through his stomach. It took him a long time to convince me it wasnât a big deal and it barely hurt. He does have to make sure he repairs the damage Before turning human again though or the damage can transfer over and I donât need to tell you a hole in the gut is a lot more serious for humans!
âIf Iâm honest I only know ghosts that have stayed younger then they really are, for instance Youngblood whoâs a few hundred years old and could be well on his way to adulthood if he wanted but has remained a child. I assume it can go the other way though, if a ghost is very mature for their age.â
EctoplasmÂ
Ectoplasm is the energy that makes up all ghosts and the Ghost Zone itself. All ghosts can feed on the ectoplasm around them as well as produce their own by indulging in obsessions. The ghosts Cores produce the ectoplasm like a brain produces neurochemicals when exposed to the right stimulation.
Ectoplasm is a powerful source of energy but unstable. When it is stabilized into an ecto-crystal it is more stable and can be used as a power source safely by ghosts and liminals.
âMost ectoplasm is green like you see in the pictures. But it isnât the only colour, some other ghosts produce different colours and it is highly tied to what emotion drives them. When itâs pure it usually smells like petracore but it can get pretty foul.â
(next slide)
What are Obsessions
Every ghost has one or more obsessions
They can be very literal things such as boxes, or ideas and emotions such as Love
In rarer cases they may have dual obsessions
Unlike for humans obsessions are very healthy for ghosts
Ghosts need to indulge their obsessions
Sometimes the way ghosts indulge their obsessions might seem evil, however it is almost always just amoralÂ
Obsessions shape every part of a ghost from their powers to thier physical appearance, to befriend a ghost you Must understand and aid their obsession
In very extreme circumstances a ghosts obsession may shift, sometimes this is healthy, more often it is a result of extreme trauma
âWith my interest in psychology this was sort of hard for me to accept. From the outside the way ghosts obsess seems really unhealthy but itâs what gives them life. When not allowed to indulge in their obsessions ghosts will dysregulate and go to extreme lengths to try and get their obsession, if that doesnât work they either go dormant if their core is still healthy enough or they will melt.Â
âGhosts change their obsessions very rarely, Iâve heard of it happening as they heal. For instance once a ghost has gotten revenge for themselves, if that was their obsession, their obsession might shift to avenging other people, or even protecting them so they donât need to be avenged.â
(Next Slide)
Ghost Culture
The Ghosts have a monarchy
The title of the Ghost King is not hereditary but passed through trial by combat
Under the monarch is a council of being known as Observants, and powerful and old ghosts called AncientsÂ
Ghosts respect strength and value power and cunning in combat a lot
Ghosts bond with each other through combat and play fight with family and friends often
âI have down that the ghosts are a monarchy, and technically that is true but the current Ghost King was a tyrant who was locked away thousands of years ago. Iâm sure as soon as someone shows up whoâs powerful enough to beat him his court will be happy to pick up where they left off with a better King, or queen, though I donât think the title has to change based on gender.
âI really canât stress enough how violent ghosts are! Because nothing short of having their cores shattered can kill them, play fighting for them can look Very Much like a murder attempt to a human. A lot of the issues weâve had with ghosts have come from them just not understanding quite how fragile humans, and for most of them they feel really bad once they know they actually Hurt someone by shooting them. Itâs really best for everyone when theyâre kept separate and Ghosts can happily tear each other apart in peace.â
Liminals
The result of long term low level exposure to ectoplasm, sudden high doses are almost always deadly
Liminals Can have almost every trait a ghost can, usually having a combination of a few
Commonalities between liminals include
Minor cosmetic changes such as: glowing eyes, pointed ears, and/or sharp teethÂ
Increased stamina, strength, and aggression
Increased obsessive behaviour
Liminals sometimes develop powers shaped by the strength and type of obsessionÂ
âMost of the people Danny and I know are liminals. I donât want to talk about them in case they donât want to be outed so Iâll talk about myself and my parents. We all had prolonged exposure after all. My ears are pointed,â She said brushing her hair back so they could see them, âAnd Danny is a little more then liminal but even in human form he has fangs.Â
âMy parents didnât realize it but they could to the point they could subsist on their obsession without needing to eat or sleep as often as a regular human would. About a year ago I started developing the ability to tap into and feel other peoples emotions, I can feed on them a little too but I try not to because the Worst ghost we met did that and I donât want to be anything like her.â
(Next Slide)
In conclusion
Ghosts are not evil even though sometimes their actions are hard to understand
Never get between ghosts when theyâre fighting each other but itâs usually safe to yell at them to remind them not to break anything
Never get between a ghost and their obsession
Donât drink ectoplasm unless you know youâre already liminal
âI have a feeling the section about liminals will be familiar to a bunch of you. I know Damian is liminal though I donât know how he was exposed to ectoplasm and some of you,â Her eyes skirted across Tim and Bruce. âAre toeing the line. Youâll probably notice Damian and Danny getting really close, and they might get in some really vicious looking fights. I promise Danny is playing at least.â
The family was left silent for a moment, Bruce knew he was thinking about Jason. Who had died, been exposed to.. What certainly seemed to be something like Lazarus water and come back, obsessive, aggressive, and emotional. He wished heâd had this powerpoint a long time ago. It helped understand Damian too but mostly he was thinking about Jason. He needed to reach out again, maybe meeting Danny would be good for Jason?
âSo uhhh, ya, thatâs the end of the powerpoint?â Jazz said, shifting from foot to foot in the awkward silence. âAny questions?â

You are my heaven (Bruce Wayne x f!reader) Part 1
It was supposed to be a little imagine of a dark and lonely Bruce Wayne switching place with another Bruce Wayne from a parallal universe, but I wrote more than I thought. It'll be into 2 parts, except if you ask for more. <3
Warnings: no proof reading, sexual activities, language, neglecting husband and father, kinda angst/comfort
Imagine Bruce Wayne with no child, no wife (you), no friends and no more Alfred. He was all alone, making his life even harder, more cruel, more violent.
He didnât adopt any child - not even Dick - because Alfred died quickly after Bruce became an adult. Thus, Bruce needed to take care of himself, and he didn't feel like he could look after a child. He was too tired and too depressed. He didn't want to bring any child into such a dark life.
His hands were full with Wayne Enterprises and his Batman way of life, so he also didn't make time for the Justice League. He sometimes helped them when it was about Gotham but nothing else.
And he never succeeded in getting you. He knew you. Oh yes, he knew you. He always thought that Batman would be his sole obsession, destroying him and his body. But then he met you, and he grew half insane. He needed you in his life so badly; he didn't care about anyone else. You were such a ray of sunshine in his dark existence. But you didn't want him. He was too desperate for you. You were scared of the darkness surrounding him, and you hated that rich man who wasn't trying hard enough for Gotham's poor people. He would have loved to cover you in affection and gifts, but you always escaped him.
Imagine this same Bruce Wayne being switched from places with another Bruce Wayne from another universe. This other Bruce had children, was married to you, and was friends with the Justice League. Alfred was still around. But this Bruce was neglecting everyone a little bit. This man thought he was entitled to get everything. His relationships were just alright with everyone. You more than once thought about getting a divorce actually, but you loved your life too much to let it go, even if Bruce could be a disappointment.
Imagine the lonely and desperate Bruce Wayne waking up one morning with you in the same bed as him.
At first, he believed it was all a dream, so he happily pulled you against his chest and snuggled up against you. He kissed the top of your head. When his alarm sounded out, he simply turned it off and hugged you tighter. He felt good and warm for the first time since his parents died. He completely melted in pure joy when you gently kissed his chest and neck, stroking his scarred stomach. He leaned into all your touch. He had no idea when he was going to wake up, so he wanted to enjoy this as much as possible. He didnât want to think of the cold and empty bed that was going to greet him soon enough. He just wanted to stay there forever, cherished by you. Your scent was bringing him such comfort. He was relaxed, feeling safe and at home. This was what heaven must look like, he thought.
"Not running to work already?" You softly asked, a little bit surprised you didn't have to beg your husband for morning cuddles
"I'm good here," Bruce mumbled into your hair, his eyes closed in bliss
"What have you done to my husband?" You laughed as you straddled the man, looking down at him.
Husband? Fuck, it sounded so sweet to his ears. Bruce opened his eyes, drinking into your form. He loved how the sun was softly shining against your skin. He moved his hands on your thighs and stroked your skin. You were a goddess to him
âYouâre beautifulâ He whispered
You hummed and leaned to hungrily kiss him. He almost moaned against your lips. He had dreamt so many times of the feel of your mouth against his. But it was different than usual, it was better than he expected. He felt so whole. You were his soulmate. He always believed it. And feeling you like that⊠He promised himself that once he would be back to reality, he would find a way to seduce you. He needed you. You teasingly bit his bottom lip, and he smiled. Bruce's hands greedily moved around your body before settling on your ass. He gently squeezed it.
âNaughtyâ Ypu giggled, and he smiled even more
âNot my fault. Youâre a goddess of love and lightâ He whispered
You didnât reply. You werenât too used to your husband talking to you like that. Your Bruce was good to you, but he never called you such things. He never watched you with such devotion in the eyes.
You sightly moved away to remove your nightgown under his watch. This Bruce had no idea how gorgeous you were naked, on top of him. He realised it was his favourite sight from now on. Gosh, what he wouldnât do to be allowed to be greeted like that every morning of his life? He had dreamt so many times to be allowed to see you like this, to touch you like a lover and to take care of you. He was happy he was shirtless when you leaned back against him so he could feel your skin against his. He gently switched positions with you so he could get down on you. He kissed your neck, breasts, stomach, and inner thighs before settling in between your legs. He would have taken the time to kiss your legs and feet if he hadnât been so hungry for you. It was such a vivid and nice dream. And he wanted you so badly. The way your fingers moved into his hair and tightened their hold whenever he was making you moan in pleasure became his favourite sensation. After the second orgasm he gave you this morning, he started to wonder if he truly was dreaming. You felt so real.Â
He didn't have time to think more about it as you brought him closer to you. You were softly panting, as he was happily kissing and stroking your skin. You were made to be worshipped, he thought. And he would love to be your most obedient and caring servant.
A soft knock at the door startled the two of you.
"Master Bruce, do I need to cancel all the meetings you had this morning?" Alfred's voice sounded out.
Bruce froze for a few fractions of seconds before regaining his composure. Was it truly Alfred? His dream was getting nicer and nicer. However, it was hard to think when you were affectionately kissing his skin and playing with his hair, looking at him with such tenderness in your beautiful eyes. He needed all his willpower to answer Alfred back.
"I'm on my way to Wayne Enterprises, Alfred," He finally replied, and you laughed because he really didn't look like he was.Â
The sound of your laughter made his chest blow with a warm feeling he didn't know. He was so deeply in love with you. He was so happy. And yet, the word âhappyâ didnât feel strong enough to describe how he felt in this instant. He leaned to kiss you with pure affection before getting up, even though he would have loved to stay in bed with you.
You decided to be a good wife who cared about your husbandâs work and duty, so you didn't follow in the shower, knowing Alfred would indeed need to cancel all of the meetings. You wondered what you did last night for Bruce to treat you with such passion and love this morning. You wished things would be more often like that.Â
You were still lying in bed when Bruce came out of the shower. Before looking for some clothes, he went back to you, like a magnet attracted to you. He kissed your naked back before kissing your lips.
"Time for some lunch with me, hon?" you asked, clearly pushing your luck, but Bruce seemed in a very good mood today.
You were ready for him to say no, though, like he always did.
"Of course, anything you want," He whispered, smiling.
He was excited you seemed to want to spend more time with him.
You didnât add anything, truly wondering what you did last night. He kissed you again before dressing up. You enjoyed the view from the bed. Bruce loved the warm feeling of your eyes on him. He couldnât get enough of your attention.
He reluctantly left the room after having stolen another kiss from you. He couldnât get enough of you.
He properly greeted Alfred and thanked him for having checked on him.
Bruce was a little bit surprised to discover so many young adults and teenagers eating breakfast in his living room, but it was giving some life to his old manor. And in a dream, you couldnât expect everything to make sense, right? So he simply greeted everyone and asked if they all slept well, like his father did when he was a child. They all seemed stunned by the question, but they still answered. What amazed them even more was that Bruce actually listened to their answers. He waved them all goodbye, wished them a good day, and went to work.
It was time for lunch, and Bruce hadn't woken up yet. His meetings were now done, and he could take some time to think. Everything felt so real so far. Usually, in dreams, when you read something, lines are blurry or the words mean nothing or the words change all the time... But it didn't happen. Apart from the people he didnât know in his living room, everything seemed to make sense?
He typed away his name on his Internet browser and started to read about how he was dealing with Wayne Enterprises, how he was married to you, how he adopted or took under his roof many children. Bruce Wayne seemed quite⊠popular. He looked for Batman's work as well. It seemed he was often with the Justice League, and he had some vigilantes under his lead. He started to think about what happened last night - before he woke up with you in his arms.
He could now remember a very bright light engulfing him while he was fighting off some criminals.
"Where are we going for lunch?" You texted him, and the notification brought him back to the present
"That Italian restaurant near Wayne Enterprises?" He offered.
He always wished he could invite you there because he quite enjoyed this place. He hoped the place existed here, but with your answer it seemed it did.
"Oh yes, it's been a while!" You quickly replied. "I'll meet you there in a few. Love you <3" You added
"Love you too, wife" Bruce sent back.
Gosh, he never thought he would be allowed to send you such words and it was making his head spin.
But Bruce was a smart man, so he started to understand that he must have taken the place of the Bruce Wayne of this world. It couldnât be a dream because it was too detailed and realistic. It couldnât be an illusion, because something would have felt off to him. It wouldn't have been the first time he was trapped in an illusion, he would have been able to feel it. This place... everything felt true, real.
There were only two possibilities: someone brought him to a parallel universe or he died and went to heaven.Â
He hurt one of his fingers to draw blood. He couldnât be dead if he was still bleeding, could he? So if he was going with the parallel universe, it meant⊠It meant that the other Bruce Wayne had this perfect little life. Fuck, he felt a deep and raw jealousy stabbing his heart: why didn't this Bruce suffer like he did? Why did this version of himself get everything he ever wished for himself? Alfred, children, you? Even Batman seemed to be doing better here. Wayne Enterprises were thriving, the biggest and most powerful firm of Gotham.Â
He needed to understand what happened... So he could forever stay here. There was no way he was going back to the Hell that used to be his life. He would kill himself at the instant he would get back. How could he survive being alone again? The other Bruce was a problem because if he was alive, he would want to get back here. But fuck him. Everyone seemed so surprised by how he was acting, so he was certain that the Bruce of this world didnât deserve their love. And he would do anything to deserve it. It was his chance to finally be happy and he wasnât going to fuck this up.

Working For It
Pairing(s): Bruce Wayne x F!Reader x Selina Kyle
Summary - Bruce and Selina love to make you work for his cock.
Warnings - 18+ ONLY! Smut. Thigh riding. Fingering. Face sitting. Unprotected sex. Creampie. Multiple orgasms. Bruce and Selina are a little mean. Aftercare.
Word Count - 1.9k
âCome on, baby. We both know you can do better than that,â Selina purrs from where she lays on the bed. Sheâs on her side, one hand supporting her head while the other is between her thighs, playing with her clit.
All you can do is whine and moan as you roll your hips, almost desperately, against Bruceâs bare thigh. His back is against the headboard, eyes dark as he watches you cover his thigh in your slick. His cock is rock hard, the head red and dripping precum. He quirks an eyebrow at you.
âI donât know, Selina. I donât think she wants my cock that badly.â
His words have you whining out of frustration. You do want his cock. You really do, but the slicker his thigh gets with your juices the less friction there is, making it harder to keep your pace and chase your pleasure.Â
âI do,â you gasp. âI do want your cock! I want it so badly.âÂ
âYeah? You want me to fuck you senseless?â he asks.Â
You nod eagerly. You do. You really do. Itâs been on your mind more often than it hasnât all week and itâs been driving you crazy. But both of your lovers seem content with torturing you instead.
âGonna be a good girl and come on my thigh then?â
âYes. I want to be your good girl,â you mange to choke out. You try angling your hips differently, getting your clit to fully press against his body, but it doesnât really work. Instead it only leaves you more frustrated than you were before.
Bruce must take pity on you because the next thing you know youâre being briefly lifted from his thigh while a towel is draped over his thigh.
âThere we go. Thatâs better,â he coos. The hand on your hip, thatâs been keeping you stable this entire time, gives you a gentle squeeze.
You have already started rutting against him again, the friction created by the towel giving you more control and feeling of it dragging against your engorged clit feels amazing and has you finally getting closer to your release.Â
Bruce is enjoying the fucked out expression on your pretty face as you moan and fuck yourself on his thigh. Youâre so goddamn wet that you have already soaked the towel, seeping through the fabric and clinging to his skin. His attention is pulled away from you as Selina moves. She pushes her tongue into his mouth and he moans into the kiss. His free hand comes up between her thighs, his fingers easily sliding through her slick folds and he pushes them up inside of her. She moans as she starts to fuck herself onto his fingers and he takes the opportunity to wrap his mouth around one of her nipples.
Your eyes are completely focused on Bruce and Selina. You love watching your two lovers kiss and touch each other. It adds to your own excitement, adding to the pressure building up deep inside of your lower stomach. Selinaâs gaze meets yours, mischief dancing in those green eyes of hers.
âI think she should only be able to have your cock if she can cum in the next 30 seconds.âÂ
Bruce chuckles and itâs clear heâs agreeing with her. They both love torturing you so much and youâre so intoxicated by both of them that all you can do is listen to them because you want it. You want his cock. No, you need his cock. You need to feel him splitting you open and filling you up so badly, until youâre so fucked out you canât remember your name anymore.Â
â20 seconds,â Selina calls.
As mean as he can be at times, Bruce is still nice enough to keep a grip on your hips, continuing to give you the leverage that you need as you continue to grind your soaked cunt against him.
âTen seconds.â
They both can tell youâre close by the way that your moans continue to grow louder and louder.
â5 seconds, baby. Timeâs almost up.â
By the time that Selina reaches 3, youâre crying out Bruceâs name, your head thrown back and your eyes shut, as your orgasm steals away your breath. He catches you as you collapse against him, your head coming to rest against his chest as your body shakes and you trying to regain control of your breathing. As you come down from your high, catching your breath, he praises you and tells you what a good girl you are for them. Selinaâs hands come to rest on your hips and she presses feather light kisses to your sweat soaked skin, adding her voice to his praises.Â
Their words start to spark more heat inside of you, a growing need starting to build back up from deep within. Thereâs only one thing that you can think of that will help soothe it.
âI canât believe the two of you timed me,â you mutter once you finally feel recovered enough. âI better get my reward.â
âOf course, sweetheart,â Bruce replies. You feel Selina pull away and he gently flips your positions so that youâre now laying on the bed with him on top. He presses his lips against yours in a slow and sweet kiss. You sigh into the kiss as your hands come up to cup his face.
He pulls away sooner than you would like for him to, resting on his knees as he gets you to wrap your hips around him and he lines his cock up with your entrance. You gasp and your back arches as his cock starts to push inside of you. That delicious stretch as your body accommodates his large size has your fingers gripping the bedsheets. He bottoms out inside of you and stills for a moment.Â
Selina kisses you before settling her legs either side of your head, facing Bruce. Her pussy is absolutely dripping with need, her clitoris red and engorged, poking out from beneath its hood. You swallow thickly at the sight, your cunt squeezing around Bruceâs cock, drawing a deep groan from him. You have to taste her. As you tug her down to get her to sit on your face, Selina laughs.
âAlways so eager to please,â she purrs, already gently rolling her hips.Â
You answer her by wrapping your lips around her clitoris and sucking, drawing a moan from her. Pleased, you release her clit and lap up her arousal, groaning at her taste.Â
Your groan quickly turns into a moan as Bruce slowly pulls out before roughly thrusting back into you. He sets a steady pace, each thrust making you moan against her pussy. Youâre still so sensitive from your previous orgasm you can feel the pleasure quickly building up inside of you. Your nails dig into Selinaâs muscular thighs in attempt to try and ground yourself.
Though you canât see either of them right now, you know that they are kissing. Their moans and groans are muffled and his pace has slowed, letting the pleasure that's been building up inside of you slowly fizzle out.
As you roll your hips, looking for some friction and trying to get him to move faster again, you push three of your fingers inside of Selina and wrap your lips around her clit again. You know when you have found that sweet spot deep inside of her by the way that she suddenly gasps your name and her body squeezes your fingers while her thighs squeeze the side of your head. Her nails scrape against your skin and she rides your face more insistently, chasing after her high.
Bruceâs pace slows down even more. He drags his cock against the walls of your cunt, making sure you can feel every last vein, as he watches Selina fall apart thanks to your deft tongue and fingers. Her mouth drops open as she cries your name and her entire body shakes as her orgasm crashes into her. The sight is almost enough to have him cumming right there. She rolls off of your face, collapsing against the mattress as she breathes heavily.
He sees his chance and moves forward. Your mouth and chin are covered in her release. He canât help himself. He licks a stripe from your chin to the tip of your nose, groaning softly at the tangy taste. You giggle as you wrap your arms around his neck, pulling him in for a kiss and happily letting him push his tongue into your mouth.Â
As the two of you kiss, Bruce starts to move again. This time faster and a little bit harder than before. Each thrust has you moaning wantonly as your nails start to dig into his back. The springs of the mattress creak with each thrust and his head comes to rest in the crook of your neck.
Slender fingers surprise you as they press against your overly sensitive clitoris and start to rub tight circles against it. Youâre sure that you must be drawing blood as the grip you have on him tightens the closer you get to your climax. Pleasure is thrumming through every inch of you and you know heâs as close as you are. His thrusts are growing sloppy and his usually grunts and groans are turning into moans of your name.
âCome on, baby. Let go.âÂ
You have no idea which one of you Selina is actually talking to. Perhaps both of you? In the end it doesnât really matter. You get there first, your body locking up and squeezing his cock as the edges of your vision turn fuzzy and all you can hear is your heart thumping away in your ears. Bruce falls straight over the edge with you, the squeezing of your cunt too much for him, and he buries himself as deep as he can, as he fills your pussy with his cum.
By the time you come back to your senses, Bruce has already pulled out of you and is cleaning you up, while Selina has your head resting in her lap and is gently stroking your hair. The feeling of the damp washcloth coming in contact with your pussy has a sharp gasp leaving you as you realise just how sore you are down there.Â
âSorry, sweetheart,â he murmurs before pressing a kiss to your knee. âGot a bath running for you. Should help with your discomfort.âÂ
âAnd Iâve ordered takeout from your favourite place,â Selina says. âYou must be starving.â
âSounds good,â you reply. Sheâs not wrong, you are hungry, and food from your favourite place sounds absolutely divine.
Your orgasms have left you completely boneless and exhausted, but itâs the good type of exhausted. One where you feel so content with your life and loved by the two people that you love most in this world. It also leaves you pliable and easy for Bruce to manhandle as he lifts you from the bed. You curl into his embrace, snuggling against his body, which has him chuckling. As he carries you toward the en-suite, you find yourself desperately fighting to keep your eyelids open as sleep tries to claim you.
The feeling of hot water washing over your body doesnât help. Itâs a battle the entire time to keep yourself awake. One that both Bruce and Selina seem to find amusing.
Itâs only after your bath and your food has arrived that you wake up a little bit more. The smell of the food making your stomach growl and your mouth water as your body decides that eating right now is way more important than trying to get some sleep.
Once youâre full, you have no issues with falling fast asleep. Especially when youâre finally tucked in bed with both of Bruce and Selinaâs bodies pressed against your own.

ABSOLUTELY EATING THIS UP because I don't think this is just grimdark Batman for the sake of grimdark Batman, there's a thread throughout this issue of Dick teetering on a tightrope of being a child and being a mirror of Bruce's anger and rage. Earlier in the issue, Bruce is refusing to let Dick out onto the street yet, saying that he's not ready, while Dick eavesdrops and looks ready to punch someone in the face about it. Woven in around this, is Jim Gordon asking to set up basically a playdate for Robin with his niece Barbara so they can go trick-or-treating together and Batman legit drops him off, like a kid about to go have fun. It's not until the Batsignal goes off that Dick runs off, and he's actually fairly happy-go-lucky as he's swinging through the air and kicking people in the face. Then this moment. A dark moment where Bruce is beating Julian Day so badly that the artist makes a point of all the blood on his fists, of Dick having a moment of, "I... didn't know he was an orphan." And the WHOLE POINT of the early days of Batman and Robin is that they were both orphans and that's why Bruce connected with him so hard, because he couldn't turn away from that little orphaned boy. And I think that's the point of these scenes, that Bruce isn't ready to let Dick into these fights because he doesn't want Dick to become him and see what Bruce himself has become. Bruce thinks during that fight that it was Alfred who made him wear the Kevlar, that he only agreed if it was thin and light. Bruce thinks about how he knows that kind of gun that was used in the killing. There's a thread running through the issue that Bruce is dealing with Harvey Dent becoming Two-Face, feeling betrayed about it and wondering if he could have saved his friend if he'd told him about Batman, given him a lifeline. It fits so well with what Dick Grayson is to Bruce Wayne--he's not just another orphan, but he's the one that will refuse to be made into a mirror of Bruce, that he will refuse to not be loved, that he will refuse to let Bruce stay in the dark. One of the main points of baby Dick Grayson as a character is that he was angry in the way Bruce was angry, but that he looked at the situation and said, you know what, I'm not going to let us fall into the dark, I'm going to drag us both out of here if I have to. This series comes with the context of Dark Victory before it, where Dick is portrayed as an angry child, but there are moments of adorableness and light. And that's it--you can't have Dick's character without recognizing that there's anger in there, but also you can't have Dick's character without one of the main themes of him is that he chooses to turn back to love and joy. This scene goes as dark as it does because it's a turning point for Dick, a point where he's realizing that he has choices in front of him. Bruce is saving him by giving him training and a home and people he loves, but Dick will be saving him by refusing to stay out of the light. And what a messy, convoluted dynamic that makes between them! A tiny child shouldn't be making that kind of decision, Bruce should be the adult here, but that's just who they are, and in a comic book story, it's really a testament to how incredible a character Dick Grayson is that he had all that anger and rage in him, will always carry it with him, but has the iron will to turn away from it and to emotionally go toe to toe with Batman and win. That child is going to bright laughter and love to Bruce Wayne's life, he's going to bring back the compassion and kindness that Bruce has buried in his heart, and there's nothing Bruce can do to stop him.

Jason Todd x batmom!reader
Jasonâs death broke you almost beyond repair, sending you into a dark pit that you struggled to claw yourself from. But what about your baby boy? What about what happened to him? And could you ever save him like you should have done years ago?
Warnings: ANGST, lots about Jasonâs death, kidnapping, Jason needs a hug, references to Damianâs conception, I repeat shit tons of angst, reader wants to die for a while, swearing, descriptions of scars, insults thrown at reader, references to murder
WC: 1.7k
A/N: I realise I took this in a different direction than what the request actually was but I hope you still like it!
Minors DNI
You didnât think being a mother was ever in your life plan, it wasnât like you didnât want children, you just never expected it to happen. Then, a little bird named Dick trotted into your life, bringing along with him a man who you knew was your soulmate. And a few years later, things got even better.
A boy, barely 11 years-old, tried to steal the tires off of the bat-mobile. And less than 24 hours later, he became a Wayne. Life was good, for a while. You did your best to provide your boys with as normal a life as possible given the circumstances and they seemed to flourish. That is until Jason was a month shy of his 14th birthday.
You remember that night in vivid detail like a horrible nightmare you couldnât escape. Bruce had been silent on the coms after the explosion making a deep sense of unease settle in your gut. You remember little Jasonâs bright yellow cape saturated with red, the fabric wrapped tightly around your sonâs body, shielding you from the horror.
Bruce made eye-contact with you and you knew, you knew your little jay-bird had been ripped from you before his life could even really begin. The scream that echoed through the cave as you fell to your knees still haunts Alfred and Bruce to this day. The utter despair and rage of a mother who lost their baby rattling their bones.
For a long time, you blamed Bruce. Once Jason had been buried beneath his favourite tree on the grounds, you stopped speaking to your husband. You moved to the other side of the manor, refusing to eat or even sleep. You wanted so badly to be with your boy again and you wished every day that you had been the one who died, not him.
The appearance of Tim saved you. That smart little boy who wouldnât take no for an answer wormed his way into your heart. He helped gather the pieces of your heart and stick them back together, even if there were a few shards that lay with your Jason.
Bruce welcomed you home with open arms and you both were finally able to grieve together. You became a united front once more, able to face any situation with the knowledge that you werenât alone.
But nothing could have prepared you for this.
With a pained groan, your mind emerged from the darkness of unconsciousness. Your eyelids felt heavier than normal as you struggled to open them but eventually, you were successful. As far as you could tell from the dim light streaming through the windows, you were in an abandoned apartment. It stank of stale urine and cigarettes.
You huffed and glanced down to find that you had been tied to an old dining chair. Your gaze lifted to the door which was only a few feet in front of you. If you could bounce on the seat with enough force, you might be able to shatter the old wood and make a run for it.
âDonât even fucking think about it.â The deep voice that spoke from the darkness further into the apartment startled you but you regained your composure quickly, after all this wasnât your first rodeo.
âWhat do you want? Money? Leverage?â The man chuckled and you saw the shadow of his figure move. From what you could tell, he was huge.
âNo, we just need to have a little conversation without Mr Wayne meddling.â Your stomach dropped. Who the fuck was this guy? But before you could retort, he stepped from the shadows.
The red of his helmet was what struck you first. The metal was smooth save for the white slits for his eyes, even to you who had faced the Joker head on, it was incredibly intimidating. Then emerged the maroon bat on his chest so like the symbol your husband sported. Then the two guns strapped to his thighs.
Anger rushed through your veins before you could stop it. âRed Hood.â You spat.Â
âVery good!â He replied sarcastically. âIâm glad I made an impression.â He walked casually over to you, his goliath body towering over you. The old floorboards creaked under his weight as he moved with the grace of a man who had spent his whole life being a soldier.
Your face remained stern as he approached, not showing even a lick of emotion. Your husbandâs words echoed through your mind. âDo not show your fear, give them nothing.â
âYouâve already killed more than 20 people in Gotham, I donât think thatâs a great impression to give.âÂ
â20 people that you know of.â He snarked, a thick Gothomite accent slipping through his carefully crafted facade. âIt isnât like your beloved husband is doing much to clean up the streets.â
He walked casually behind where you were bound and tugged on your restraints. You flinched as the rope dug into your plush stomach. âI mean he couldnât even kill the son of a bitch that murdered your precious âbaby birdâ.â He hissed, voice full of raw hatred.
Ice ran through your veins. You couldnât answer him, too shocked that he knew of Bruceâs double life. âI mean what kind of a man replaces his son less than a year after he was beaten to death with a crowbar! And you know what makes it even worse?â His face was now right beside yours, his mask pressed against your ear as he whispered his next words. âYou let him.â
âYou have no clue what youâre talking about!â You crumbled, you couldnât help it. The pain of Jasonâs death was all-too-present in your lives. âI died the same day he did.âÂ
âAnd yet youâre still breathing.â He moved away, turning his back to you. âAnd I know why, itâs because you werenât really his mother. You just took him in as a little pet project because you were a bored housewife with no one to nag since your Brucie was out fucking other women. If you were really my mother, you would have killed yourself a long time ago.â
A gloved hand reached up and undid the hidden clasp in his helmet. The metal fell away easily, revealing a mop of pitch black hair that covered the back of his pale neck. âPoor Mrs Wayne, stuck in that big house all alone with so much love to give but no one to give it to. Jesus Christ, no wonder Dick left, you are so stifling.â
He huffed through his nose as if this whole thing was one big cosmic joke before Red Hood finally turned to face you once more. âWell mommy, how does it feel to know that your jay-bird is a murderer?âÂ
âOh god.â You whimpered as you took him in. Jasonâs face was covered with the silvery lines of old scars, including a large one that curled up from the corner of his lip all the way up his cheek, giving him a snarled smile. His eyes were no longer the soft hazel that they once were but now an almost supernatural green. A slash of white cut through his dark hair.
He was so different but he was still Jason. âMy baby.â Tears quickly rolled down your full cheeks. âYouâre alive.â You didnât fight against your bonds anymore, you couldnât. It felt like your body was shutting down as shock set it.Â
Jason scoffed at your tears. âOh so now you wanna start crying? Fucking pathetic.â He rolled his eyes.
âMy boy, my boy.â You cried. He was alive, all this time he was alive and you hadnât found him. Guilt settled heavily in your gut and suddenly it was like it was 5 years ago. âIâm so sorry.âÂ
âYouâre just sorry that now you have to face the consequences of your actions.â You shook your head. âOr are you sorry that you werenât a better mommy?â He asked mockingly.Â
âIâm so sorry Jason. Iâm sorry. I love you so much.â You were in near hysterics now. âI love you.â
But evidently, that was the wrong thing to say because with an explosive amount of power, Jason threw his helmet at the far wall. The metal dented upon impact, shattering the cheap drywall. âNo you donât! You never did!â He blazed with an anger you had never seen before.
âI do. You were the best thing to happen to me Jason. Youâre my baby. Iâll love you forever.â And for a split second, you saw the rage melt away and what was left was that scared little kid who just needed a guiding hand.
âFuck you! Youâre just a fucking trophy wife who canât even keep her husband in her own bed!â He screamed into your face but you did not flinch.
âI love you.â You repeated, your tone unwavering.
âYou arenât even my real mother!â His face was red with emotion, just the same way it used to when he was upset or frustrated.
âI love you.â
âI donât love you!â He shouted back but his eyes could no longer meet yours and his hands were shaking.
âI love you.â Your voice was soft now, just barely a whisper but you knew he heard you. He shot forward, slipping a knife from some hidden pocket into his palm. The ropes that held you fell away just as he collapsed into your arms.
You did not hesitate, you wrapped him up as tightly as you could, Jasonâs head falling to the crook of your neck as your fingers tangled in his hair. âI love you my Jason.â Tears soaked through your shirt as he sobbed, his huge chest heaving with his pain.
âI was so scared. I just wanted you and you werenât there. There was so much fire and blood.â Thick arms wound around your waist, squeezing you harshly. âI wanted my mommy.â
âIâm here now. Iâm never letting you go again, never.â
He nuzzled further into you and you almost didnât catch his quiet âI love you momma.âÂ
âI love you more.â
And thatâs where Dick found you hours later, kneeling on the dirty floor of a condemned building, Red Hood asleep in your arms as you sang him a lullaby.
Anon request: 3.The boys did something wrong and she punish them by (whatever you want to do) and one of the replies, âyouâre not My Mom!â

Clone^2 Damian
If you really think about, Damian's situation in the clone^2 au is... kinda tragic? Especially in the early months of his arrival. Like,,, think about it. Damian has always known he was a clone of Damian Wayne, that he was a copy of the blood son. There was nothing 'original' about him, not even his name (of which at least Danny has that). He was just... a replacement. A disposable one, to boot.
And he knew that, to an extent, by the time he was six years old. he might not have been actively acknowledging it -- he's six years old -- but deep down he knew. And like, he's six years old. Every small child craves the love and affection of an adult, especially their parents, and even though he knew he was clone, I imagine he still considered - and still does consider, somewhat - Talia and Bruce as his mother and father. And I really doubt he was... getting it?
Now, I know Talia loves Damian, her son. At least in some interpretations she does, and in this au she does. But... a clone of her son? I'm not so certain if she would have the same affection for baby Dames as she would for Damian. I don't think she would treat him badly, but I don't think Talia would treat him warmly either. Kinda just, distant. Colder than she would have been with OG Damian.
And, I know I've mentioned Damian's arrival from Danny's point of view, and its kind of comical kind of insane from his perspective -- a little boy clone of Damian Wayne falls through a portal and immediately attacks him. That sounds like a bad joke.
But, if you think of this from Damian's point of view? It's like he just got dropped into a scary movie. Like, think about it. You're six years old, and suddenly a portal, as green and as swirling as your grandfather's pools, opens up beneath your feet and sucks you through.
After an intense bout of vertigo, you end up in a massive, urban city -- completely different from the rural mountain palace that you lived in for the last six years of your life, and in this city, you don't know any of the language. You don't know what anyone is saying, you can't read any of the signs - you are completely stranded, away from home.
And then, to make things worse, you're facing a figure with a terrifying mask and eyes as burning green as the portal you fell through. Of course Damian's first instinct, six years old, is to attack. He's terrified.
And this figure, he's not a good fighter, but he's fast, and he dodges you quickly. He grabs your sword with his hands, and tries to restrain you, saying something in a language you don't know. Naturally, Damian is just scared. He's six! He'd just be learning how to read if he was normal child going to school.
This figure halfway through the fight yanks off his mask -- he realizes you're scared -- and looking at you now, is a youthful version of your father. This is a clone of your dad, someone you have never met but, six years old, still wants to. Damian gets defensive. This is an imposter.
But this imposter eventually gets you home with him - and he's using his little box, his phone, to communicate with you through a mechanical voice speaking in arabic. and it's frustrating. The boy, the imposter, can say whatever to you just fine, but trying to talk back is a hassle and a half. He's six, he doesn't have that much patience.
He wants to go home.
And so he keeps trying to run away. He keeps trying to find out of this hellish concrete jungle, and he keeps getting lost. It's loud, and busy, and there are people talking to you and you don't understand them, and there are rules and signs you don't understand - Damian tries to cross the street and nearly gets hit by a car. He doesn't know how the road signs work, he was never taught. They didn't get to that.
And he gets lost. And it gets dark, and Damian is brave, but he is six, and this is the worst stress he's been under in all his six years of life. He wants, desperately more than anything, to go home. Why wouldn't he? The only stable... semi-stable environment he was in just got ripped out from under his feet, literally! He wants his mother.
And it's not happening.
But there's something good to be said, at least. The imposter that looks like his father always comes and finds him, no matter what. He could have left that morning, and he will find Damian at midnight, frazzled and worried, and carrying an extra jacket with him because it is cold in Amity Park and Damian is six years old.
And sometimes Damian attacks him - he's scared and stressed and he doesn't want to be here. And every time he catches the sword. Even though Damian can see it cut into his hand and pearls of blood well up and stains his fingers. Even though Damian can see him wince in pain and bite his lip, he still catches it.
But with that little box, he coaxes Damian to come back with him. It's cold, it's dark, Amity Park is unsafe at night. They can figure something out tomorrow, please. And every time, he agrees, reluctantly. And the imposter takes the extra jacket he brought with -- a flannel, a hoodie, a jacket -- and he wraps it around him. It's warm, Damian's clothes are not that thick, and even though he thinks he might hate this imposter, he still sticks close to his legs as he leads him down the street.
And sometimes the imposter carries him, because Damian's shoes are not that thick, and he cuts his foot on broken glass while they're walking home. The imposter sits in the bathroom with him and carefully cleans the cut out, and makes sure it doesn't get infected.
There's hope you know, he still has it. His mother will be looking for him. She'll be worried. He's important to them. Damian may not be the original, but he is still a blood son. He is still her son. She will come find him. This nightmare will end soon. He can go home.
And then weeks pass, and nothing. Then months, and nothing. His family is not coming for him, and it hurts. Hurts more than anything. And yet while that happens, the boy he's attacked, and hurt, teaches himself arabic in order to speak to him. He takes Damian out of the house one afternoon and buys him new clothes, or tries to. And then he keeps buying him new clothes. He gives him blankets and gives up his bed to him until they can get him one himself, and steadily he teaches Damian english.
This boy is kind. Kinder than Damian's ever experienced, and he doesn't know what to do with it. He's devastated by the fact that he is not as important to his family as his family is to him. What do you do when you're six years old and you learn something like that? When a random stranger who looks like your father is kinder to you, and cares more about you than your family did?
And then Damian tells him he's a clone. He's Damian Wayne's clone, and he tells him his purpose - that their grandfather made him to kill him. And the boy, the imposter, Damian thinks he probably already knows that he's a clone. But he doesn't say that. He just nods, and asks him if he wants to tell his original about him.
Damian says no. He doesn't want to. He's tired of living in the shadow of his original. He wants to keep this to himself. This is his. For once, all of this is his.
And to his surprise, the imposter doesn't try and convince him otherwise. He just nods, and says okay. And when Damian asks why, the imposter - his brother - looks at him and says.
"I don't care about Damian Wayne. I care about you." And in Damian's gobsmacked silence, his brother continues. He tells him that if Damian doesn't want to tell his original that he exists, then they don't need to. They don't need to worry about the LoA going after him, because clearly if his 'grandfather' needs to make a clone of Damian in order to take him out, then whatever it was that Damian Wayne was doing to keep himself safe, was working.
"Wayne already has people in his corner, he's got Gotham's army of vigilantes to keep himself safe." his brother says with his eyes as blue as moonlight. "You, however. Do not." And he continues, and says that if Damian Wayne has the same training as Damian does, then he will be fine. He doesn't need to be aware of his clone. Because if DW doesn't know about Damian, then the LoA doesn't either.
And here's the thing. Damian would not have survived in the LoA for long. Not as a clone. No matter what, he was going to die no matter what he did, and sooner rather than later. The sword of Damocles was always hanging above his head in the League of Assassins.
That portal, and meeting Danny, saved his life. There's no way around it. And to an extent Damian knows this even at six years old. He may not be aware that he would've died, but he knows that meeting Danny was the best thing to happen to him.
It's no wonder after that, that Damian is as clingy to Danny as he is. Danny is the first person he's met to offer him unconditional love, with no strings attached, only pure affection.

So⊠when people go to Starbucks, they sometimes use celebrity names, right? I saw this post on Pinterest (one of those older Tumblr screenshots) and this person said their name was Tony Stark and they ran into someone who called themselves Bruce Wayne. So that happens, right?
Okay, so, imagine you're working as a barista at some place and you get so many people telling you their name is a pro hero name. The amount of Dekus you have served this week is off the charts and you had no idea Shoto could shape shift into forty different people. In all honesty, though, it's funny and kinda the highlight of your week.
This one day, someone comes in and they tell you there name is Dynamight. Not only does the shy smile on his face tell you, no, it's not Dynamight, but like literally everything else does too. Okay, normal. You place the order and then take the next person in line. This person is also Dynamight. This has happened before and, to prevent confusion, you dub this person Dynamight 1.
The next customer is a stoic man by the name David. The two of you connect eyes, both inwardly laughing at the funny little encounter that just transpired. David is dubbed nice David, a name you mumble and the stoic man hums with joy, you think.
Anyway, after David isâwell, a large, intimating man which wild ash-blond hair and sharp crimson eyes which are enhanced by his dark mask. You blink up at him, shocked for a moment before your eyes flicker to Nice David. You both share a look of shock before evil grins appear in your eyes.
Then Dynamight orders and you take his order professionally, not gushing or fan-girlingâand not breaking down into a fit of laughter despite so badly wanting to. He gives you his name, a gruff âDynamight,â and you bite your cheek.
You take your sharpieâyou've chosen orange for obvious reasonsâand your write what some may consider your final words. You're optimistic and consider it funny. âDynamight 2,â you mumble and the man snaps his head around with such a bizzare, pissed off look you can't stop the laugh. You tried, which turned it into a snort and the rage in his eyes exploded (heh) at the sound. You hid behind the empty coffee cup, pinching your lips together as laughter prodded at your chest.
âThe hell did you just say? You think that shit is funny?!â
You did. Then you realized he probably thought you were making fun of his recent drop from number one hero to number two. He was bitter about that, it was no secret. You cleared your throat, back to looking at Dynamight with your professional facade. âSorry sir, it's just that,â you paused, sharing a look with Nice David.
âSpit it out,â the inpatient hero demanded.
You looked back it him, clearing your throat again as a laugh threatened to ruin everything. You laughed when you here nervous and it didn't help that you always found Dynamight's reactions amusing. But you had to keep it together, for the other, no doubt, embarrassed Dynamights in the room. âWell, I'm sorry to say, but Dynamight and Dynamight 1 have already been taken.â
âWhat?â
It was so short, so curt, and so blunt you almost laughed again. You saw the other two Dynamights flinch and you wanted to scream. What were the odds the real deal would come into the little cafe the same time as two of his fans? Ah, if you were them you'd be too embarrassed to get your coffee. But, since you weren't them, well, you were there to enjoy the comedy gold.
Back to Dynamight 2. The man still awaited an explanation, far too confused to be annoyed at your lack of action. You looked at the two other Dynamights who's eyes were glued to the floor. You looked at your coworkers, all of which were hiding smiles by showing their backs to the giant proâbusying themselves with work. You looked at Kind Dave, both agreeing this was one ofânay, the BEST thing to ever happen in your lives. You looked at Dynamight 2, a man so lost and so confused, so unsure of his identity.
âIf you would like, I can use a different name.â
âHuh?â That snapped him back to the present. âHell no, I'm Dynamight!â
âYes.â
âSo use Dynamight!â
âIt's already been usedââ âThen swap them!â
âI can't. That would just confuse the teamââ âThen I should be Dynamight 1!â
âThat's already been taken.â
âJust change it from Dynamight 2, dammit!â
âHow about Dynamight 3?â
Oh if looks could kill. âChange. It,â he order slowly, lowly, and most definitely sternly.
You coughed into your hand to hide the laugh. âAlright sir, I'll change it.â
You assumed he was too angry to listen to your new name for him which was his fault actually. He could most certainly not blame you for what was to come because it was he who left you unsupervised and you lived off of the pain of others.
There were no other customers so, you had the honor of handing out drinks. It was with great joy you took that job and you, again with great joy, read the name on the cup out loud. âDynamight.â
You saw the hero twitch. His scowl deepened and you would've laughed to yourself if you weren't waiting for Dynamight to show up. You looked at the small group, raising a brow when no one came. âGuess he left,â you mumbled.
One of your coworkers mumbled a response. âI'd leave too.â
You both shared a small snicker.
Then the next order came up. âDynamight one?â you asked, fully aware that person has also slipped out.
That meant two free coffees for the team.
Next was âKind David,â you announced proudly.
The man, the myth, the legend walked up to your counter and, as the name implied, kindly took the drink from you, giving you a kind nod of thanks. You both shared a look of amusement before he left, giving Dynamight 2 a small nod as he passed.
It was time. You held the large black coffee with a hint of cinnamon and a helping of whipped cream in your hand. Dynamight liked whipped cream, who knew? You didn't look at the cup to read the name. No. You looked straight into Dynamight's narrowed eyes. He began approaching the counter, glare hardening in suspicion. You announced him and he bristled with anger, lip lifting up to reveal his pink gums as he sneered down at you. Such a large man.
âNumber two!â you announced loudly, cheerfully, and joyously.
Boy. You had never seen a face curl up like that. He towered over you and he opened his mouth to give you a pice of his mind. But you beat him to it. You leaned forward, mischievous glint in your eye. âDon't worry,â you whispered, âyou'll always be number one here, hero.â
And it was supposed to be a funny jab, you said it with a teasing look. It was supposed to make him snatch the coffee outta your hands with a glare. But, well, you couldn't control his emotions.
He grabbed the coffee, taking it out of your hand normally. He glared, a comparatively calm glare. âWatch yourself, shorty.â
And you let your mouth drop in a dramatic scoff, about to give his back a piece of your mind, then you see it. You freeze, mouth gaping in actual shock. The back of his neck and the tips of his ears were the slightest bit red. You thought you were seeing things. You rubbed your eye. Oh boy, you were not seeing things.
It was supposed to be a funny jab. You said it with a teasing look. But hey, if Dynamight got all embarrassed, that was fine too. âWe'll be rooting for you hero!â you cheered, again, mildly teasing.
He scoffed but you saw the blush grow on the back of his neck. He sent you one glare over his shoulder and your cat-like grin grew at the pink dusting his upper cheek. Then he left and the cafe was silent before you and your coworkers burst into a series of obnoxious laughs and giggles. You were not giggling, by the way, you were on the floor DYING and wheezing in an ugly, hilarious sort way.
Dynamight was an interesting guy.

Okay, so I want some angst, so could you do something with Bruce and batbro where reader is the newest member of the batfamily and also a vigilante. His backstory is really sad and never had a parental figure. So when he does something stupid on a mission with no regard of his own health, Bruce scolds and lectures him about it, so reader snaps and says something like âI donât know why you care so much!â And Bruce replyâs back with something like âbecause I am your father.â But the reader isnât having it, overwhelmed with his feelings, he yells something like âyou are NOT my father and Iâm sure as hell not your son!â And runs away After that. Honestly Iâm not sure how to end this so maybe you could think of something đ
đ
Oh anon, it's going to end with fluff. You are going to get angst, but the end will be fluffy. I can't handle pure angst.
Summary: (Y/N) has no regards to his own health and Bruce reprimands him. (Y/N) lets his feelings be known.
Warnings: Angst and fluff essentially, minor cursing, (Y/N) is confused, mentions of injuries.
(Y/N) struggled badly with fitting in. Getting adopted by Bruce Wayne wasn't in his life plans. (Y/N) was fine on the streets. He educated himself in the library and he didn't need to go to school. Well, prison according to (Y/N)'s words. He didn't see a point in sitting in a classroom for hours on end.
And what was he going to learn there? He knows the basics of mathematics and he knows how to read and how to write. What more do you need in life? Equations?
Not in (Y/N)'s eyes.
It happened by pure accident. He was looking for his friend, hearing that he might have been in danger. Local gang was working through their neighborhood and he didn't like it.
He made sure to stay out of their way and he has advised his friends to do the same. However, people are not known to listen to directions and advices are they? The friend went missing and (Y/N) had to find him.
He didn't have many friends on the streets. It wasn't a bad thing, but you need to have some acquaintances. (Y/N) tried to be nice to everyone he came across, of course, he can't make everyone like him, but he tries.
He doesn't want any trouble. He just wants to get on his life easily.
During that fateful night, Batman and (Y/N) met one another for the first time. (Y/N) was shocked to find him here, but has guessed that he was just investigating. Bruce observed the boy for a moment before starting his interrogation.
He saw (Y/N)'s fear. His eyes widened, hands trembling at the sides. Not to mention the fact that (Y/N) was high on adrenaline. Bruce saw that he wasn't an enemy, just a scared kid. Bruce relaxed and asked (Y/N) some questions.
(Y/N) was stuttering as he answered Batman's questions. It was scary to see the Dark Knight in such proximity. (Y/N) knew that one wrong more will cause him to be maimed.
Of course, Batman wouldn't harm kids, but he is not really known to be patient for information so there was this inate fear that Batman might beat him up. (Y/N) doesn't have any type of medical insurance and...
But Batman was nice to him ever so gently asking him questions about the local gang that's moving in the neighborhood. He offered (Y/N) a position on an informant, but (Y/N) had to decline. Snitches get stiches and (Y/N) didn't want to die.
Bruce nodded at that statement. He understood. Nobody wants to be put in that type of situation. The stress, pressure... Bruce went home that night and he couldn't stop thinking about (Y/N). There was something about the kid that Bruce couldn't stop thinking about.
Maybe he sensed a lack of parental, more so a fatherly figure. Afterall, Bruce has a problem with adopting children and more so, taking strays in.
One night, he was taken to CPS and from there to an orphanage. He was shocked at how fast it has happened. From the cold streets to at least warm bed.
The kids there are not really something that he... Liked per say. Growing up on the streets, he didn't trust anyone, except one person, from whom he was now far away from. Unfortunately, he had no way of getting out, even after observing the pattern of how things to work around here.
Their patrols were good and chances of him escaping are slim. No, not slim, they are non existent. So he gave up after a while. He sat on his bed, reading a book from the library. Somehow (Y/N) ended up in a Wayne Orphanage and it had a library. Bruce Wayne is posh as hell.
(Y/N) looked from his book when he heard a knock on his door. It was Lisa who entered. She is a nice lady and (Y/N) liked her a lot. She understood him and she was never pushy with him.
" Hey (Y/N). There is a man here who wants to talk to you. " She said, all smiles. (Y/N) raised his brow in curiosity. He closed the book and put it aside, standing from the bed.
" What for? " (Y/N) asked as he followed Lisa through the halls. He wondered what it was. If it was GCPD, he won't talk. Again, he isn't a snitch.
" Oh don't worry, it's nothing really serious. Well- You know, you will see. " Lisa said, all smiles still.
" Oh no. " (Y/N) said quietly as they stopped at the director's office. She knocked before entering, letting (Y/N) go to the chair first then closed the door before sitting down herself.
(Y/N) turned his head and it was Bruce Wayne himself. What the hell?
" (Y/N), I have some good news for you. " The director started and (Y/N) felt nervous beyond belief now. And it had to involve Bruce Wayne somehow? Oh dear God.
" Bruce Wayne wants to adopt you. " The director said, clapping his hands. (Y/N)'s mouth dropped a little bit.
" What? " (Y/N) asked quietly, wondering what was happening. His mind couldn't even wrap itself around the concept of adoption.
" I know, it seems like a lot, but you are going to be adopted. " Director smiled and (Y/N) tried to say something, but couldn't.
" Now, you can go back to your room to pack up. " Director said and (Y/N) stood up, feeling like he could keel over at any point. Lisa went with him, seeing that he is very shocked. She saw that he didn't want to talk, but she was worried about him passing out on the way.
" Are you happy? " Lisa asked as they walked into (Y/N)'s room.
" I mean... " (Y/N) started talking as he took a sports bag. " I'm shocked. " (Y/N) whispered, packing his clothes. He took his personal stuff and put them in the bag.
" I know. But you have a chance to have a great life. " Lisa said, trying to help him out. (Y/N) sighed quietly as he packed up. He didn't have a lot either.
" I know. But still. " (Y/N) said, putting the bag on his shoulder. He looked back once more to see if he missed anything.
" Hey, if you ever need to talk, you can always talk to me. " Lisa said, giving him a quick hug before stepping aside to walk (Y/N) back to the office.
(Y/N) has never felt so nervous in his life. He only had his mother, but when she passed away, he ended up on the streets. Having a father figure now is something new to him. He didn't really don't know how to feel.
" Hey, don't worry. " Lisa said, putting a hand on his shoulder to bring him back from his head. (Y/N) nodded, but Lisa still knows that he never had a father figure. And fathers and mothers are very different parent types.
" He is aware of what you have been through. " Lisa tried to console him, but he didn't find any comfort in her words. He didn't like it at all.
It has been a year since he started living with Bruce Wayne and (Y/N) felt like he was out of place. The other kids are okay and they actually like him, but (Y/N) feels like he doesn't belong here. He is only used to mother like figures and connecting to Bruce in general is hard. To (Y/N) he looks like he is allergic to emotions.
Not to mention the fact that he is Batman and the others are Robins. He fainted when he found out and he was offered training to become a vigilante himself. (Y/N) thought about it for a long time.
It's a big commitment to become a vigilante. You need to keep your head calm and you yourself need to have the nerves to be patient. (Y/N) didn't think he could do it because there was so much anger inside of him.
It wasn't loud anger, no. It was quiet anger. It's a more dangerous type of anger and it's the one that eats you from the inside out. Not to mention, you need to be talkative, you need to talk through the comms and what not.
But (Y/N) didn't really enjoy it. He is an introverted person and he didn't really like to talk or go out somewhere and fight crime. But in the end, he thought about making a difference.
Will he make it though?
(Y/N) remembered every time he was out on the street. He stayed out of every ones way. Even though he had a great friend on the streets, he still never opened up to him fully. He has never bared his soul open for anyone to see.
He probably never will bare it to anyone. And one thing that made him think against being a vigilante was the fact that he can't really follow direction and orders.
But then again, maybe he is could make a difference. Batman can't eradicate crime, but he can give the city a boost and he has already given the criminals the fear. (Y/N) knew the fear very well. There was often a thought on his mind, whether or not Batman was watching.
But in the end, he decided to join. Bruce trained him and it felt weird to have some sort of guidance. And to have a support from a male figure is something... Nice and yet confusing beyond belief.
But he still couldn't quite wrap his mind around the fact that he had a father figure. And he felt some of the quiet anger disappear. It felt nice.
All of (Y/N)'s feelings boiled over when patrol went wrong. He disobeyed Bruce's direct orders. (Y/N) knew that he was in so much trouble, but the night has been so tiring and so exhausting. He got hurt, his body bruised and everything in him ached. He just wanted to take a cold shower and go to bed.
But that won't happen ever so easily.
(Y/N) walked off, not in the mood to listen to Bruce's lecture. It was just the two of them, since the others were busy with their own things. He didn't want to prolong this shit.
" (Y/N)! Stop right there! " Bruce yelled and Alfred turned his head. He knew that (Y/N) has put himself in danger by disobeying an order, but he couldn't stop his worry from showing on his face.
Oh no.
(Y/N) listened to Bruce, refusing to turn himself to face Bruce. He could feel anger rolling off of him in waves. He had to think of something that wouldn't result in him further angering Bruce.
" Turn around. " Bruce said, ever so calmly. (Y/N) knew that this is anything but calm. (Y/N) listened to the order, slowly turning.
Bruce's face was neutral, but (Y/N) saw anger in his eyes. Oh, he was in for a treat.
" You disobeyed a direct order! You could have died! " Bruce started and (Y/N) felt his fists clench. There was something building in his chest, something hot and heavy, settling near the heart.
" I had a plan! When I tell you to do something in the field, you listen to me! " Bruce kept on yelling and (Y/N) felt like he was going to keel over. He tried to unclench his fists, but he couldn't.
The anger had kept growing and growing.
" Why do you even care?! " (Y/N) yelled back, allowing the anger to take over. Bruce didn't even flinch at the yelling and he seemingly got louder.
" Because I'm your FATHER! " Bruce said, making sure to put importance on the word father. Something got triggered in (Y/N) and the thing that has settled near the heart exploded.
" YOU AREN'T MY FATHER AND I'M NOT YOUR SON! " (Y/N) yelled back with so much ferocity and so much anger that Bruce had to rear back a little bit.
The words stung a little bit and Bruce saw tears falling down (Y/N)'s face. (Y/N) took a deep breath before walking off up the surface and out of the cave. Bruce stood still and Alfred looked at one another.
" Well, I think he finally let it out. " Alfred said, trying to light up the mood, but it didn't work.
" Should I let him be for now? " Bruce wondered rubbing his face.
" Yes. He is at the moment angry and he needs to let it out. " Alfred said, rubbing the back of his neck.
While the two are having a discussion on what to do and how to approach (Y/N), the said boy ran to his room breaking down in the hall, just before entering. He fell down on his knees, sobbing quietly. He wiped his face before entering his dark room.
He quickly removed his suit before stepping into the shower. He showered with ice cold water to ease the pain of some bruises. He tried to calm down, but nothing worked. He changed into his pajamas and just crawled into bed.
He had no interest in staying awake anymore. But he couldn't go to sleep. Did he have to yell like that? Probably not. But those feelings are something that have been bubbling for a little over a year and if he kept them in for a while longer, it would eat him up completely.
But Bruce was very nice to him for the time (Y/N) has been here. (Y/N) closed his eyes as he tried to sleep, but he couldn't. His mom once said to never go to bed angry, but he was to stubborn too look for Bruce.
But it seems that fate would have it that Bruce seeks (Y/N) out first. Bruce entered the room quietly and (Y/N) was just still, pretending to be asleep. Bruce knows this trick very well, but he played along for (Y/N)'s sake.
Bruce sat on the edge of the bed, near his back. (Y/N) felt the bed dip and he remained still as possible.
" I know you think I don't care, but I do. You are my son no matter what and seeing you hurt on patrol made me feel scared. I shouldn't have yelled at you, but I was scared and angry at myself. " Bruce said and (Y/N) moved closer to Bruce, trying to find some comfort in his arms.
Bruce didn't say anything else as he embraced his son, who sobbed quietly in his embrace. Bruce knew that (Y/N) has never had a father figure in his life, but he didn't realize it was that bad.
Bruce would try to be better for (Y/N), but for now, the night is too fragile for something bigger. It was just enough for tonight.

âright place, right timeâ
IX. I'm the well they're gonna drag you down.
parts: previously / next plot: and they were rooommates. pairing: battinson!bruce wayne x gn!reader. cw: surgeon!reader, secret identities, slow burn, mentions of blood and stitches and drugs and alcohol, this chapter is fluffier because reader deserves a break, reader and bruce discussing their one-night stands, bruce thinks he's funny but he just can't hide how much he likes you okay, jealousy thy name is "disturbed". words: 6.9k. a/n: shoutout to allnurses.com contributing to at least 8 hours of research on how medications are stored in hospitals for one scene. any nurses in chat please do not stone me, I took creative liberties. also, in case there is any confusion, this chapter and the vignette take place all in (mostly) the same day.
The car gets about halfway down the street before Bruce observes out loud, "Something's bothering you."
You're clean and changed, but your hands are shoved between your thighs as you try to control their shake. Knowing what you know now, you have no reason to keep this from him. He is, by all means, the one person you should tell.
But you struggle to work up the courage without a mask looking back at you. The character of Batman you'd created in your head clashes violently with the character of Bruce. You'd written your own Jekyll and Hyde and tripped yourself up in the final act when it turned out they were one and the same, "You have a lot on your plate right now."
"So do you."
You resist the urge to grit your teeth, "It's about Judith."
Bruce thinks for a moment, "The old lady who doesn't like me."
"The very same. I... wasn't there for her last night, when I should have been. She was mugged on her way home."
Bruce doesn't make a big show of a reaction, though you notice he sits straighter, taking a break from gazing out of the window to glance at you every once in a while, "Is she badly hurt?"
"It could've been worse but... she's more shaken up than she wants me to believe."
"And her family?"
"Murdered." Bruce's car rolls by a street corner where a young mother wrangles her child back from the crosswalk, "I tried to convince her to have one of the deacons from church ride home with her from now on but she wouldn't listen. She doesn't want to be babied." Her stubbornness isn't at all unfamiliar.
"Did she see who did it?"
"She said some guys at the liquor store down the way. They hang out there every night," your eyes trail from the window down to the floor before finding Bruce's face. His profile is sharp and clean, the dark neck of his sweater stops just before the hair at his nape begins to cluster. Your eyes follow the bridge of his nose and it mirrors Batman's profile, a mix of pointed and blunt edges, "There's a... an heirloom in her purse. A lighter. She keeps it with her all the time. Her husband had it on him when he... well, he had an awful habit. She'd really like it back."
Bruce turns his head to you and you steel yourself. In the bright early morning, he is annoyingly resplendent. In the unfair way that all pretty people tended to be. It feels wrong to be asking him this. This is a stranger. You're begging for help from a stranger. You force down the sickness rising in your belly, "Please, will you-"
"I'll take care of it." He answers and it is final. He seemed to have made up his mind before you'd even asked.
The resolve in him is enough to slow your shake to nothing. There's a part of you that still doesn't quite believe what you'd seen last night, and so the certainty of Judith's well-being does not deluge you. It trickles down, dripping over your eyelashes, sprinkling off your fingertips.
You let yourself get caught up in his eyes the way you used to. You let the familiarity of them ground you and, though not with a sweeping acceptance, sigh in relief.
It's a small win in the grand scheme of steaming hot bullshit going on in your life.
Youâve taken things from General for Bruceâs sake before. Bandages and needles and disinfectants. This, however⊠this was a schedule II drug that could land you in prison if you got caught with it. And you were going to walk out of here with it like you were none the wiser.
A hand on your elbow forces you to slow down, drawing you back to your companionâs side. You donât need to hear it so he doesnât say it, but youâre embarrassed anyway. How Bruce maintains himself is enviable. âYouâre a good actor.â Bruce peeks at you as you guide him through the first floor, âThe thing with Gordon. You took it on the chin like a champ. You turned into a whole new person.â
âI avoid implicating myself when I can.â
âThe party too. You diffused the tension, like, perfectly.â
Bruce hovers beside you as you call the elevator, a few patients and nurses lingering further behind. You can feel him probing your words for your natural line of thinking, âCouldnât pull one over on you, though.â
No, you think, you just creeped me out while every bat-shaped clue flew right under my nose.
The elevator door slides open and the two of you squeeze into the back as the rest file in. You find yourself in a corner, braced against Bruceâs side as his hand reaches around your back to hold the railing. One of the nurses catches sight of him and swoons, the other trying (and failing) to look uninterested.
âComing to see the new wing?â The swooning nurse asks, turning around to grin at Bruce. âSounds like itâs coming along great. They make lots of helpful noise all day long.â
Bruce laughs good-naturedly, âHopefully itâll make up for all the trouble once itâs finished.â
The âuninterestedâ nurse nods, eyes frantically flashing from Bruceâs eyes to the floor and back over and over, âFor sure! Itâs really great you give back to General like this. Your dad would be proud.â
His face has no distinct reaction to it, nothing immediately telling that that comment hit too close to home. He smiles as he always does and thanks them as he always should do, and as they get off on the second floor, itâs just you two and an old man waiting for the next stop.
Bruce, to you, had long lived in his fatherâs shadow. The great Thomas Wayne who, despite his briefly smeared reputation, had been the face of the Wayne family for you. Even the some-twenty years after his passing had yet to shake that image from your brain.
It was his fatherâs legacy he was tending to here. All of the good and ugly that came with it. You couldnât imagine how many times heâd heard his father would be proud. Did it comfort him? Frustrate him? Did he do this to make his father proud, or because it was expected of him?
Before the flood, youâd heard gossip about Wayne Enterprises going under, the reclusive in the tower giving no sign if he was alive or dead. Knowing what you know now, you wonder how much he truly wants to be a Wayne⊠with all the baggage that comes with it.
Heâs wound tight. You can feel him against you.
Before you can talk yourself out of it, you find his hand on the railing beside you and cover It with your own. Heâs shocked, judging by the way he jolts under your touch for a second. You think youâve overstepped but when you go to apologize, he is already staring wide-eyed at you. Like when youâd caught him on the stairs.
The tension is still there, and his face has fallen in its warmth and friendliness. His hand had only partially slipped out from underneath yours, but as the seconds pass you feel it rest once more, not bothering to shake you away any further.
You both force yourselves to stare ahead until the elevator dings to let you out, but through the reflection on the door, Bruce is still looking at you.
You break first, distracting you both this time as you walk out, âYou kept hitting me with your knee.â
Bruce, in a daze, asks, âWhat?â
âAt the party. While me and Roberts were arguing, youâd nudge me with your knee like it was an accident.â
Bruce seems to remember who he is and where you are, because he quickly gets back to himself, âGuess Iâm not that good of an actor.â
âWhyâd you do it?â
âI knew where the conversation was going. I could feel you thinking.â
You remembered holding your breath as the mayor prepared herself for confrontation back then, âAnd the second time?â
âI was trying not to laugh.â
You flush. Youâd been so impassioned that night, defending your hero who, unbeknownst to you at the time, was hiding a snicker behind his glass. You feared youâd be remembering a lot of moments like that over the next few days.
As soon as you both get into your office, you shut the door behind you, âI need you to wait here for me.â Bruceâs face tightens, âDonât⊠argue. They keep extra vials of the antivenom down in the ER. I can grab one from the med room, but I canât have you following me down there. Itâs off limits for anyone without ID, let alone a patient and a donor.â
Bruce doesnât look comfortable. Since last night, you hadnât been anywhere Bruce or your police detail couldnât follow. You hadnât even been allowed to enter your apartment until the latter had deemed the place safe. A med room not much bigger than your officeâlocked behind an ID scannerâposed less of a threat than your two-bedroom ten minutes away.
But it was two stories down, and anything could happen in the time you were away from Bruce.
You can see the wheels turning in his head, trying to think up some plan that allowed him to remain by your side. You have to restrain yourself from feeling⊠flattered.
Flattery turns to bewilderment as Bruce reaches into his pocket and drops something into your hand. Itâs a gadget the size of an AirPods case, shining in the light of the fluorescents. It looked perfectly unassuming and hidâlightweight as it wasâa marvel of expensive technology. You could tell just by looking at it. âThe hell is this?â
âItâs an EMP generator. Put it in your pocket and I can disable any communications within your vicinity, including cameras.â
âOkay, no. This is a hospital, and Iâd be going into the ER with this thing. Thatâs too dangerous.â
Bruce looks offended. You can practically hear him say âYou donât think Iâve thought of that?â with his eyes. He silently holds his phone up to your face and you shouldnât be as shocked as you are that itâs got live camera feed of the entire hospital. âI can control the radius. You said you trust me. So trust me.â
You swallow back your retort. You did say you were going to trust him on this. Whether or not it would be your doom had yet to be seen. You nod once, dropping the device in your pocket. âIâll meet you back here in ten minutes. Fifteen at the most.â
Bruceâs lips purse together. He still doesnât look settled with letting you go alone, but he has very little room to argue, âTen minutes.â
You donât waste time. You skip the elevator for the emergency stairwell, taking two steps at a time until youâre back on the first floor and walking to the ER. The med room at the very end of the hall wouldâif you were luckyâbe as empty as the waiting room. All you needed to do was get in, grab what you needed and very quickly get the hell out of there. Without raising suspicion. You can feel the phantom pull of Bruceâs hand on your arm, begging you to slow down before you draw unwanted attention.
You round the corner to the med room, scan your ID, and head in.
The two nurses waiting inside greet you, analyzing you curiously, âHey doc, need something?â
Words rattle in your brain like a d20 on a deception roll. You pray for something good, âI just wanted to grab some meds for my patient.â
One nurse sits at a computer, head titled in confusion, âDid you put in a prescription? You couldâve sent a nurse to grab it for you.â
Your eye catches the camera on the ceiling, its dark glass glinting at you, mocking you. A scrying glass recording your every move. And Bruce on the other side of it, hopefully buying you an alibi. âItâs a⊠special case. My patient needs it soon, so I thought Iâd speed up the process and grab it myself.â You force a lightness into your tone, trying your best to appear apologetic and not at all suspicious.
The nurse hums. Then, she jabs the pen sheâd holding over her shoulder, âCartâs over there. Help yourself.â
You maneuver through the shelves separating either half of the room, keeping your head straight and eyes from wandering.
Your biggest hurdle was at the back of the room.
Itâs a clunky cabinet on wheels with a monitor on top and an ID scanner on the side. In one of its many drawers, your golden ticket awaited, but these things kept logs of who checked out what, and if someone were to go through them later and find out youâd stolen a highly addictive drug without prescriptionâŠ
You swallow. The generator in your pocket suddenly hangs heavy against your thigh. You glance at your phone for the time and note that four minutes have passed. You need to move quickly.
You approach the cart, fingers twitching at your sides, and right as you step up to the monitor, it flickers and goes dark. You give the power button a push for good measure but nothing happens.
Well, not nothing. You hear the cart drawers all click at once, like theyâd unlocked by themselves. Tentatively, you try the top drawer and it slides out without issue. Glancing behind you, you check to make sure no nurses have wandered over, but you are the only one on this side of the room.
Your fingers drift down to the right drawer next and that one slips open tooâby the grace of some godâand there you see it. It has an alien glow to it, a more subdued blue to its adversaryâs green. The top of the tray holding the vials pops open with just as much ease as the drawer, allowing you to sneak one into your pocket. You shut the drawers, slowly backing away from the cart, but the monitor does not turn back on.
âWhat? This thing too?â Youâre startled when the nurse from before suddenly jogs up from behind you, grumbling under her breath as she smacks the monitor.
You rush to cover, âIt just went kaput on me.â
âYeah, so did mine.â She maneuvers around the shelves and back to her desk where you see the other nurse at the desk scratching his head. Their monitor is glitching, having some gory digital stroke, âHere. You can sign out what you take for now and Iâll bother IT about this.â
You write down âIbuprofenâ and your name next to it, âNever seen that happen before.â
âYeah. Thing froze up on me a minute ago. Guessing around the same time this thing died on you.â
Your stomach is still nervously fluttering, but you do feel a little smug. âWeird.â You hand her back the clipboard and go to grab a bottle out of a different drawer. âGood luck.â
You try not to sprint past the nurses as they fuss with the computer. Youâre out and back upstairs before your ten minutes are up.
Bruce is sat leisurely on your couch, no doubt watching you scurry into the office on his phone. He looks from the pill bottle in your hand and back to you.
You toss the bottle into his lap, plopping down on the couch beside him. He frowns at the label. âFor you,â you poke his injured leg and his eyes follow your every movement, âyouâre favoring the other leg today.â
He canât bring himself to deny that, even if the look he gives you from beneath his eyelashes says otherwise. You flash the antivenom at him as a peace offering. âHowâd I look?â
His gaze flutters slowly from the vial to you before he shows you his phone. The screen is a recording of the medication room. It shows you greeting the nurses, walking up to the med cart, and then⊠nothing. Black screen for forty-five seconds. When it flickers back on, you're signing the clipboard and walking away. Your body sags into the couch with relief.
âYou did good.â Bruce praises you.
âI thought I was going to go into cardiac arrest.â
âThere are worse places to do it.â You look at him and heâs smiling just a little. Youâre aware, though, that heâs aware of the toll this has taken on you. He takes the vial out of your hands and puts it in his own pocket, holding his hand out to you. âWe should get going.â
Bruce follows dutifully behind you as you lead him back down to the first floor. You feel much better than when you'd arrived, but your heart stutters each time a security guard passes you by. Years ago, stealing and getting away with it was second nature to you. You were also arrogant back then, uncaring of what happened to you. How quickly the tides had changed.
You feel Bruce nudge you with his arm. He isn't looking at you, but you know what he's trying to tell you: you've got a few more hallways to turn down before the exit. You just have to-
Someone calls your name.
You spin around, nerves electrified, only to find Em running to catch up with you, "What are you doing back at work already? Is your arm okay?"
The adrenaline rush had done wonders for your pain tolerance. You didn't even think about it until she brought it up, "I'm fine, it's fine. It's-" You go to rush out some sort of explanation but at that moment, Bruce turns around.
You can see the moment of impact across Em's face as soon as she realizes who you're with, her back straightening and hand pressing down flyaways. In an instant, she has forgotten all about you. For better or for worse. She rubs her palm on her leg before holding it out to shake his hand, "Mr. Wayne! Hi! I'm surprised to see you here." Her eyes are twinkling, "Everything alright?"
"Just some leg pain, nothing painkiller can't fix." He flashes the pill bottle for good measure. You're honestly impressed he admitted to being in pain at all, "It's good to see you again, Dr. Madison."
Em's face droops into a frown, "Well, you look fantastic, but you've got a mirror," she pats your arm, "and I'm sure you're being well taken care of."
"Only by the best."
You smile (borderline pleadingly), preparing to dismiss yourselves while you still have your wits about you, but then Em asks Bruce a question and, to your surprise, Bruce is happy to entertain her.
It strikes you that you had landed in your situation with no prior interest in who Bruce was, and it shows in how you barely keep up with the topic of conversation.
It's like watching a tennis match between the two. The topic in Em's court, then Bruce's, then Em's, back and forth without issue. No awkward pauses or uncomfortable looks. She recalls details about him out of thin air, your knowledge in comparison merely fringes of what Em knew.
The longer it goes on, the more it weighs on you that aside from the strange man who'd circled around you like a frightened kitten, you really didn't know anything about Bruce.
You knew Batman. You felt you knew him. Even when his identity was still a secret, you had felt comfortable with him. Vulnerable, even. He'd let you touch him in your home, fixing him up and helping you with this mess and... outside of that, what did you really know?
You feel an odd twist in your chest.
Em's voice floats back in, disrupting your retrospection, "I've always wanted to go to Italy. You must get so sick of these places after having been so many times."
"They still have their magic," Bruce grins, "but I don't like being far from home."
"Really? You could go anywhere in the world and you'd still miss Gotham?" Em's tone is teasing, but curious. Something flickers in her eyes as if she'd just remembered something.
Bruce takes in the hallway, chest swelling with pride, "Lots of things to miss about it."
"Name one."
Bruce's eyes cut to the side as he thinks, "The noise."
"You can get noise anywhere. LA, Chicago-"
"It's special here."
"No, try again."
His smile turns sheepish, "The rain."
"Now you're lying. Come on, pretty boy. I know you've got something. Penthouse, nightlife- heck, I'd even understand the freaks and clowns giving everyone PTSD."
Bruce exhales, purses his lips. His eyes flit around the white walls, "Okay. I'd miss you."
What the hell?
You straighten up. The absurdity (blatant sweet-talk) of the line shouldn't workâseriously, it wouldn't work on youâbut Em goes pink in the cheeks. A strand of dark hair falls from her bun and frames her smile just so, "Well," she snorts, "aren't you just a flirt?"
To your utter dismay, they are both eating this up. "You light up the room, Dr. Madison. Your patients are very lucky."
"My patients are usually seven and way more interested in the candy I bring them."
"Candy?" Bruce finally looks at you, all humor and charm, "I never get candy. I just get yelled at."
Something in you is disturbed when Em grabs onto Bruce's arm, hanging off him as she pouts at you, "Oh! You're heartless!"
"Very much so." Bruce is somber.
"I don't-" Your voice comes out strained, a little too defensive right off the bat, "I don't yell." But you'd gotten close, and you got closer everyday, "But if I did, you'd deserve it."
Bruce is amused. You watch as he pretends to cower into Em, even as he dwarfs her in size. They start joking back and forth, more teases at your expense, and you notice that the persona he puts on around others is practically nonexistent here. You'd watched it dissolve within minutes. It's refreshing, you realize, that he seems to really be enjoying himself right now.
You catch Bruce insisting that he ought to get going, sharing pleasantries and desires to visit once more. Em looks genuinely saddened to let him go. The second Bruce's back turns, Em reaches out and squeezes your hand, whispering, "Please tell me he's single."
You fluster. You imagine yourself in the car ride back to the tower asking Bruce what he thinks about Em, offering to exchange numbers between them, and you're disturbed again.
Twenty-four hours ago, you would've been warning her to run for the hills. Twenty-four hours ago, he was only Bruce Wayne. Now he was Batman and all that came with it and, well... once upon a time, you would've wanted nothing more than for Bruce Wayne to sweep Em off her feet. Batman had always been more your style.
Then, you realize, you don't actually know the answer to her question.
Em looks expectant. You shrug. She exaggerates her disappointment but releases you all the same, "Keep me posted."
"I'm comparing the samples from the crime scene to the antivenom. I should have something in a few hours." Bruce taps the antivenom vial, watching the remaining blue liquid slosh against the glass, before handing it off to Alfred.
You're mesmerized by this backyard (or, more aptly put, garage) chemistry lab. Beakers and flasks spread out on the long table as you watch from a stool a few feet away, "How'd you get so good at this?"
"College," after a few seconds of silence from you, he adds on begrudgingly, "I started messing around with stuff down here when I was 13."
"You had all this when you were 13?"
"Some of it, whatever I could get my hands on. I liked to see how things worked."
You have a unique opportunity to learn about Bruce here, so you take it with both hands, "You majored in chem, then."
"And biology, and physics."
Your eyes blow wide. "You had three majors?"
"I bounced from one to another, sometimes double majored if I liked the professors. I followed my interests and they took me everywhere," Bruce picks up the venom test tube, little drops of green pooling at the bottom of the glass, "I've enrolled in more universities than I have degrees."
Your eye twitches, just a little annoyed, "Must've been nice going wherever you wanted, whenever you wanted."
Bruce senses your tone of voice. He peers at you from the side, elbows resting on the table, "I spent a lot of time away from home. It must've been enough because I don't miss it."
"You said the same thing to Em earlier." You recall.
"I didn't think about it as much while I was gone, but when I came home for good... I just couldn't imagine myself leaving like that again."
"He barely liked boarding school," Alfred chimes in from the other side of the room, lazily reading a book at Bruce's desk. Boarding school was posh. You imagined little Bruce in a school uniform like the British boys in movies, "I should bring out the scrapbooks once we have a moment."
Bruce sets the test tube back on its rack with a bit of aggression, "Thank you, Alfred. You can go now."
Alfred chortles. He skims one more page of his book and then shoves it under his arm on the way back up. The elevator clinks and rattles up the tower until it stops some sixty stories up.
It's quiet now. You sort of appreciate the silence- the relative silence. There is the steady drip, drip, drip coming from here and there in the cave. The whirring of the machines, the humming of the lights, the very faint sound of a news anchor forecasting snowy skies this weekend. Bruce's breathing.
It's harder to hear unless you focus on it. His mountainous build hunched over the tableâstaring into the venom as it stares backârises and falls in slow rhythm. You watch him being and it captivates you. For the umpteenth time since last night, you are struck with the reminder that this was Batman. In all his broody glory, an arm's length away from you, about a hundred feet under the city.
It's funny; you paid so little attention to the man before, and now you wanted to take him apart and examine his terrible insides. You have accidentally become obsessed with the man.
"I want to take you to Blackgate."
"Sorry?"
"Lucien is there," the name makes your blood run cold, "he was with the Vipers the longest. He could answer a few things for us."
You do your best not to immediately say no. Not because you think he'll force you, but because you knowâsomehowâthat he won't, "What about Detective Gordon? Shouldn't that be his job?"
"I think he'll talk to you." Bruce turns slowly until his back is pressed against the desk, arms crossed over his chest and pulling his shirt completely taut. "He knows you."
You hadn't seen Lucien since the night Alex died. For once, you're kind of grateful Bruce can read you. He turns fully toward you, "I can go alone."
"You just said you think he'll talk to me."
"I can make him talk." His head droops a little to meet your eyes, expression impossibly understanding. You have no doubt he can. Your throat feels like it's on the verge of closing up. Somehow, sending Bruce alone to handle him felt worse.
"But you think I can..." You have to pause to force in a breath, feeling yourself go lightheaded, "You think I can get more out of him." Bruce doesn't respond to that. He's still watching you like you might start stress-sobbing. "Okay."
"You sure?"
"Mm."
Bruce calls your name. You'd been tracing the lines of his arms with your eyes to distract yourself, not processing how much closer he'd gotten until you feel his breath against your eyelashes.
His arms are uncrossed now, one hand pressing into the table beside you, the other hovering by his hip. His fingers twitch. Does he want to touch you? You were about to go three for three with the crying in his arms thing.
You force yourself off the stool and the speed at which you stand gives Bruce very little time to react. Your chest bumps against him, but you're already slipping behind him, "Lemme see your stitches," you rasp, hand ghosting over his shoulder, "need to... redress them, probably."
Bruce tries looking over his shoulder at you but you hide behind him and after a moment, he relents. His shoulders drop in defeat. You watch him drag your stool into the light and sit.
The dismal mood did you a favor. He looked like he'd be submissive today.
You're halfway through clearing away his dried blood when you ask, "Are you single?"
Bruce's shoulder jolts just the tiniest bit, almost driving your finger into the stitch. "What?"
"Em asked," you quickly explain, "and I realized I didn't know."
You don't know exactly what he's thinking, but his answer is as straightforward as you could hope for, "Yes."
"Oh."
"You sound surprised."
"I mean... I sort of assumed..." What did you assume, exactly? You couldn't see him with a long term partner, definitely not like this, but the idea that there wasn't anybody didn't sit right with you, "no flings? Situationships, even?"
"Why? Is Dr. Madison interested?"
Your jaw clenches. You force the muscles in your face to relax, "I just don't want any secret lovers of yours adding me to their shitlist if I go through with your plan. I can't stress how little I want to fake-fight over you right now."
Bruce huffs. You finish cleaning around his wound when he pipes up again, "I had something... someone. It didn't last."
"Oh. Are you... tender about it?"
"Not anymore. I don't have time for that kind of thing anyway."
He says it like it doesn't bother him, but in the way someone might brush off a scrape on the knee or a paper cut. Like it stung, but you had to be a big boy about it. The pain would go away eventually.
You press new gauze over the stitches, taping it down as gently as you could, "I assumed someone like you would have a whole lot of someones, a revolving door even," your eyes flit over his other bruises and healed cuts, "I never made time for relationships either. I was kind of just going through the motions."
"No one interested you?" Bruce rolls his shoulders once you peel away from him. He doesn't look at you when he asks that.
"Just... childish crushes here and there. Sometimes I'd let someone take me home..." Your voice catches in your throat for a moment. You recall a stamped down memory, one of you standing blindfolded in your apartment imagining the Batman with his mouth on your throat. That wasn't very long ago. Your breath shudders as you fit Bruce into the memory instead. You don't... know how to feel about it.
"Never back to yours? And here I thought Judith was just hard on me." You belatedly register Bruce standing, rolling his shirt up his arms before pulling the neck over his hair. His question hangs lightheartedly.
Your shoulders sag, "You're not gonna believe me if I tell you I was paranoid about letting one-night stands into my home."
"Why? 'Cause you let me in?"
The back of your neck grows hot. "What about you? You ever bring yours back to the cave?"
After he's done tucking his shirt into his pants, Bruce shakes his head at you, "No. Just you."
That was the second time he'd said that to you. You were starting to feel special.
You step out of the shower and you think, almost as soon as your foot touches heated floors, that you really despise Bruce Wayne.
The towels are warm too, waiting for you as you preen yourself in the mirror, a clean you staring back. You kept your toiletries bag on the bathroom counter, afraid to unpack anything as you rustled around for deodorant. It was massive and quiet. The water pressure alone had you swearing at the marble lining of the shower.
Bruce eventually lured you downstairs with the promise of making dinner. Alfred was skeptical, but had backed off and allowed Bruce full range of the kitchen, still possessed by his book next to the fire.
He'd asked you what you had the stomach for. Eventually he was copying something out of a celebrity recipe book with you beside him.
You argued that he hadn't really made you dinner given that you had helped him do half of everything, but it was his ingredients and it was his kitchen and the food tasted good so you didn't argue long.
After Alfred offered his stamp of approval, he'd retired for the night and left you and Bruce in the kitchen to clean up. Bruce had left the pots and pans to you when you proved too nervous to handle the porcelain, "Alfred won't kill you if it breaks."
"Alfred would kill me for less, I think."
Bruce gives a short laugh, drying off the last pot. He's pouring you a glass of the wine you'd opened last night when you slide his little gadget across the counter, "I forgot to give that back to you." You swirl your glass, admiring the color as Bruce packs away the leftovers. "You looked like you were enjoying yourself with Em earlier."
"I was. Your friend is funny."
"I... also noticed something you said. When she asked you what you would miss about Gotham, you mentioned the noise and the rain. Would you really miss all that?"
Bruce glances at you, popping a top onto a glass bowl, "Of course. It's part of what makes the city."
Your eyes narrow, searching for the lie, but there isn't one. He's being sincere. "Is that why you became Batman? Because you love this city that much?"
You can feel the mood getting doused with ice water. It forces you upright in your chair, makes your hand clench around the stem of your glass. Anyone with eyes could tell you'd just touched a nerve.
But he answers you, intense as it comes out, "I hated it." The loathing is a mere shell of what it used to be, you can tell, "I hated what it took from me." His eyes cast down to the countertop. "At first, I was aimless. Everyone was worried about the future of the company but Alfred and I were just trying to make it through the day. Over the years, I boiled up with this... restlessness. I still didnât know where I was going but I was full of something for once. I studied, I traveled, I learned from all manner of teacher. And when I came home, I was... determined."
His words sit heavily on you. You can see flecks of that restlessness in his eyes, the slight tremble of his hands as he rests them against the countertop. "Why a bat?" You whisper.
"They're what I feared the most."
Past tense. "Feared?"
"I got over it. I won't let them close enough to bite, but..." The humor in his voice breaks the intensity of his expression.
You mull that over, "You became what you feared to strike fear."
"Not anymore," his head shakes, "fear is a tool, but... there's enough fear in this city. I wasn't making a change, I was making it worse."
You remembered the first time you'd ever heard of the Batman. Back then, he was just "Vengeance". In the grand scheme of fucked up things this city had to offer, someone running around dressed as a bat didn't register as abnormal. Another Tuesday, maybe. You awaited what they'd say about his crimes: a mugger beaten and strung up on the street, a gang felled and dropped at the GCPD's door. You remembered something stirring in you when he put away the Joker.
"I remember when you became a hero. Like really, to everyone. When you took shape⊠they were flying in people. I was rushing in patients while you stood on top of the Garden and pulled people out of the flood. I hadnât felt hope like that since⊠yeah."
Your admission moves something in Bruce. His eyes find yours, "I was just doing what you'd been doing for years."
"But I never left that hospital. You transcend boroughs, the gangs, everything. I used to think you couldnât possibly be one guy. I still canât believe it. How are you not dead on your feet by now?" Bruce smiles knowingly at you and you feel yourself flush, "Besides that. Youâve been doing this for longer than I've been around to patch you up."
"That would be Alfred."
"You should tell him, you know. That you appreciate him. I think he'd like to hear how much he means to you more often." Bruce's eyes soften. He doesn't debate you. "Anyway. How's that sedative going?"
"I'll take another look before I leave tonight."
Oh, yeah. This guy is Batman.
You don't know when next you'll get this chance, "Can I ask a favor? Can I... watch you put it on?" Bruce wobbles to the side, genuinely confused. "The suit?"
He examines you, mouth almost curling up into a shocked smile. He hadn't expected you to ask that, that's for sure. "All of it?"
You grip your glass so hard you think it might shatter, "No." And then, when he has the audacity to snicker, "Asshole."
He stays true to your request.
You watch with your back pressed up against the wall. His under suit hangs undone at his hips while he leans over his desk, digging his fingers into a can of black paint. He uses the reflection of his computer screen to smear it over his eyelids and under his eyelashes until the white skin beneath disappears.
Next is zipping up the under suit. You barely resist rushing over to hold his bandage steady as the suit catches on it, but he manages to get it up and over without pulling it off. Then come the plates of armor. Each piece clips into place, clinging to his waist and chest and arms. You've seen it up close enough times to know the quality of it, a wonder how he'd gotten his hands on that kind of stuff until now.
You don't ask him to, but when it's time to put his cowl on, he turns sideways so you can see.
His gloved hand combs through his hair, pushing back the longer strands so he could fit the cowl over it.
It's kind of embarrassing how it takes your breath away. Bruce had quite literally transformed before your eyes, and now there was no denying it.
Bruce stands still as your eyes bore into him.
After a few seconds of admiring every piece of the suit, your eyes flit up to his face. He's not looking at you, almost shy. Apart from Alfred and, perhaps, his someone, Bruce has probably never put on the suit in front of anyone else. Is it weird you missed seeing him shy? "It fits perfectly." Your voice is barely above a whisper.
Of course it does. You know it's dumb to say. Bruce doesn't say that, though.
He waits a beat before turning away from you, his cape sending a breeze of cool air up against your legs. His car awaits on the train tracks, headlights beaming into the near endless darkness as he approaches and you follow.
The car thrums eagerly with life at the push of a button, sending vibrations through the ground, all the way up to the ceiling where you hear a sudden flurry of wings and chirping. Bowing your head close to Bruce, you watch about a hundred bats scurry about above you, disturbed by the sudden rumble of the engine. Bruce holds his cape over your shoulder, though none of the bats fly low enough to concern him. "They don't freak you out a little bit?"
"They haven't bothered me."
"Well, when you dress like them I guess they get confused."
"I'll be back before sunrise," Bruce promises, "and I'll look into Judith for you. Maybe you should... call first."
You're tickled by the discomfort he's so desperately trying to hide, "Scared of a little old lady?"
He pointedly ignores you. You step back as he throws open the door and settles into his car, but before he can pull off into the darkness, you shout his name to get his attention over the roaring engine, "Hey! Be safe."
Bruce looks at you and... you don't know what he's thinking, only that the muscles in his jaw relax a bit. Was he used to that? Did Alfred often stand on the cold, empty train tracks before every patrol and wish him luck on another night of beating criminals to a pulp? Was he used to the worrying? Annoyed by it, even?
He doesn't say anything. The car leaves in a spray of dust and you hide your face in your shirt to shield yourself from it. By the time the dust settles, you can only see two red lights blurring into the distance.

*bursts through your window at 4AM wearing bloodied Hamlet costume* Hey Tort beloved i got you a whole chicken and an egg for breakfast:
Batman VS. Bruce Wayneâ which one, in your opinion, is the person and which one is the persona? Realistically, when hell breaks loose on a good god abiding gotham day, which one could Bruce lose and still have his identity remain somewhat intact? I know different comics and media take complete separate parts of him as what makes him, but which one do you think makes Bruce Wayne who he is at heart?
Hi! You're not the first person to ask, so I'll put these two together. Thank you for the hearty breakfast and please accept these cakes as apology for how delayed this answer is (you and Anon both).
To be honest, I consider the question of "which one is real, which one is fake" as a bit overdone... and needlessly complicated. Especially because many times when people bring up the debate, they're thinking of "Brucie Wayne" and "Batman", with arguments of Batman being the real personality seemingly always correct and almost obvious. This oversimplifies things, because there's "Brucie Wayne", there's Batman, and then there's just Bruce.
Is the persona of "Brucie Wayne", the ditzy womanizing playboy with half a braincell, fake? Yes, absolutely. That one's a mask which serves the purpose of hiding the existence of Batman. But is that the same as Bruce Wayne, the man we see joke around with Alfred in the Cave, interact honestly with Dick and the Family and Talia and Selina and so many others-- the human underneath Batman? No, it isn't. That Bruce Wayne is very real. And Batman is not a separate persona or a mask, it's just another facet of the same person, borne out of Bruce Wayne's trauma. Batman is so many things... a coping mechanism, a way to commit suicide, the fantasy of who Bruce would like to be; but he's got roots within Bruce to such a fundamental extent that calling him a mask, or a persona, feels wrong to me. Batman is both the worst and the best of Bruce Wayne. There's no separating them... no matter how badly Bruce would like to make it that way.
Because Bruce has struggled (and still does) a lot, both with admitting to himself that there's more to him than the existence of Batman, and with maintaining a balance between the many personas he wears. "Batman is the real one, Bruce Wayne is fake" is something Bruce desperately wanted to believe and make real himself, in multiple stories. This is where this long-standing fandom belief probably stems from: from Bruce having convinced himself that "Bruce Wayne" is dead, and that there isn't anything left to him but Batman. Hell, Bruce has literally tried to "kill" Bruce Wayne and only be Batman in Bruce Wayne, Murderer? and Bruce Wayne, Fugitive; this is probably the story arc that dealt with this divide in Bruce's psyche in the most depth, I absolutely recommend giving it a read.
However, the more important thing is the why. Why this constant struggle? And it's a simple reason... maintaining ties to his humanity versus giving himself over entirely to the Vow. Batman was forged out of Bruce's pain, and is a response to loss. Batman is how Bruce channels his emotions into purpose. Batman will always want to never go through the loss of loved ones again, and the simplest solution to that is to never care again. Never have romantic relationships, maintain a distance from all the people in his life. But humans can't live like that. Bruce can't live like that, he needs grounding by the many relationships he does have, despite how much the side of him that's Batman pulls in the other direction. That's why Bruce Wayne, Fugitive ends like this:
And the thing is, we keep having the same story, over and over. Bruce nearly being consumed by Batman, and then finding his way back, most of the time with the help of his Family.
Here's another instance:
Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #140
And another one, which so beautifully illustrates how Batman and Bruce Wayne are the same, but also how Batman contains a suicidal and self-destructive side of Bruce too:
Batman: Ego
(Lol. Yeah this is your life, man.)
But you could find an equal number of examples in which Bruce declares that "Bruce Wayne" is useless and disposable, and that Batman is the only thing that matters (e.g., Robin 1993 #125). Because again, this is comics. There's no finality in sight, no traditional ending that everything we read is heading towards. Bruce will keep doing this dance, will keep having to learn how to balance these two sides of himself. Most recently this happened in Zdarsky's Batman run, with the conflict between Bruce and the Batman of Zur-en-Arrh... but don't even get me started on that utter disappointment.
Actually though, @psalmsofpsychosis, this part of your question is quite interesting: "Realistically, when hell breaks loose on a good god abiding gotham day, which one could Bruce lose and still have his identity remain somewhat intact?" Because there have been times of crisis in which this has happened, in comics. And what Bruce did is probably not what you'd expect. This answer got long enough though, so I'm putting the rest under the cut.
Bruce has gone through a lot. There's been many catastrophic-level events he's dealt with. And at first glance, you'd think that he'd consistently fall back on Batman, if that's who he "really" is. But when his will genuinely breaks, that isn't what always happens. In Batman: Cult, a story that takes place towards the end of Bruce's first decade as Batman, after Jason became Robin, shows that Bruce can give up:
Batman: The Cult
Bruce abandons Gotham, and with it, Batman. Obviously, he eventually comes back. But it had to be Jason dragging him around for half this issue just to make him fight, just to make him function. (Much earlier than this, in Going Sane, he also considered just leaving Batman behind. But that story is deeply intertwined with Joker's identity as much as his, so I'm just mentioning it.)
And then Barbara gets shot, Jason dies, Bane goes after Batman in the Knightfall arc... it's just one thing after the other for the poor guy. Knightfall and its continuations are very extensive and many things happen, but after Bruce's spine is broken, he leaves Jean-Paul Valley in the role of Batman. And even after Bruce's injuries get healed, making a previously proclaimed goal of becoming Batman again much easier, he tells Tim that he doesn't want to come back. That he wants to stay retired, and "rejoin humanity":
Batman: Knightquest
Tim has to tell him of a crime that Azrael as Batman did, which is impossible to ignore... and Bruce has to confront Jean-Paul and see the truth of him having gone mad himself, before he decides to retrain and "become worthy" of his Batman identity once more.
Then, in a much bigger and well-known storyline that follows the Cataclysm event, Batman disappears for months. No Man's Land starts with a world in which Bruce has been away in Monaco trying to be someone else, instead of in Gotham, being Batman and taking control of the wrecked city which had been abandoned by all. Oh he comes back, but still...
No Man's Land: Ground Zero
So. Batman isn't his "real" identity, it isn't the core of him. Many times, he's wanted to run away and leave Batman behind, just like in some stories he was ready to completely destroy the "Bruce Wayne" identity and only be Batman. But in times of crisis, he repeatedly tried to leave and find happiness outside of Gotham and carrying the mantle of Batman... without succeeding.
Sometimes, Bruce hates Batman, and tries to run away. And other times, Batman hates Bruce, and tries to destroy him. It's a constant give-and-take, and neither facet of him has managed to succeed so far, because Bruce is Batman. There's no one without the other.

[ID: Several photos weaving together text and comic panels.Â
First image is of text that reads âThe memoir is, at its core, an act of resurrection.â
Second image is a panel of Jasonâs face on the ground in watercolor art style from Batman: Hush. He is wearing the Robin domino mask and his mouth is parted open. He is splattered with blood. A blue caption reads âJason.â. The panel is overlaid in red.Â
Third image is a cropped panel of Bruce and Cass in front of Jasonâs grave. Bruce is saying âHe would have been eighteen today.âÂ
Fourth image is of text that reads âMemoirists re-create the past, reconstruct dialogue.â
Fifth image is of Bruce and Cass surrounded by graves as Bruce is saying âBut he was brash. Impulsive. Headstrong. Never looking before he leaptâŠI knew that, but I didnât stop him because he wanted it so badly. He wanted too much to prove something.â
Sixth and seventh images are cropped panels from Batman: Hush with Batman in watercolor art style. The sixth image has blue captions that reads âNo matter what differences weâve had through the years, Iâve always known that Dick had a gift. Jason only hadâŠrage.â In the seventh image the captions are âJason never had the skills that Dick had. I should never have let him put on that costume.âÂ
The eighth image is text that reads âThey summon meaning from events that have long been dormant.â
The ninth image is of two panels from Jasonâs post-crisis Robin run in the 80s. The first panel is of Bruceâs face with the Batman cowl pulled down. Heâs saying, âHardly, the other Robin wouldâve done the same thingâŠYou two really are two of a kind.â The accompanying panel is an up close shot of Jasonâs grinning face in the Robin suit. Heâs saying, âThank You, Mister Wayne. Mind if I stay up awhile and do some homework?â
The tenth image is of two panels from Death In The Family of Bruce cradling Jasonâs dying mother, Sheila. In the first panel Shiela is saying with many ellipses between her words, âHe turned out to be such a good kid all his problems and he still turned out good.â In the second panel she is saying, âHe threw himself in front of me. He took the main brunt of the blast.â
The eleventh image is text that reads âThey braid the clays of memory and essay and fact and perception together, smash them into a ball, roll them flat.â
The twelfth image is a panel from Batman: Hush that is cropped to only show a caption that reads âJason saw being Robin as a game. Itâs probably what got him killed.â
The thirteenth image are of two panels from Bruce and Cass at Jasonâs grave. The first panel is a cropped shot of Bruce saying âYes. Maybe if Iâd put an end to his attempts, heâd be getting ready to go off to collegeâŠâ The following panel is of Bruce and Cass standing as dark silhouettes against a red sky with the angel statue of Jasonâs grave looming over them. Bruce is finishing his thought from the last panel and saying, âOr just having a normal lifeâŠâ
The fourteenth image is text that reads âThey manipulate time; resuscitate the dead.â
The fifteenth image is of two panels from two different comics. The first is from Batman: Hush in modern comics art style and not watercolor. Itâs a cropped panel of Tim Drake in the Robin suit yelling, âNo matter what he says, Jasonâs death still haunts him. Why else would he keep Jasonâs costume so prominently in the cave?â The second panel is a cropped image of Barbara Gordon on the BatComputer screen from the same issue of Bruce and Cass visiting Jasonâs grave. Sheâs contacting Bruce before he goes to the graveyard, saying, âMaybe youâre busy...Look Batgirl just came by. She seemedâŠupset. I donât know what happened, butâŠif this is about what today is, thenâŠJust Know Iâm here if you needâŠâ Â
The sixteenth image is of text that reads âThey put themselves, and others, into necessary context.â
The seventeenth image is a panel of Bruce and Cass in the graveyard. Bruce is saying, âBut heâll never have that. Maybe itâs not too late for Stephanie.â
The eighteenth and final image is an edited panel from Batman: Hush in watercolor style again. It is a close up of the R symbol of the Robin suit with blood stains on it. The panel is overlaid in red again. The edit is a blue caption from the same issue that is added to above the R symbol. It reads Batmanâs inner monologue of âFor these reasons, Iâve carried the burden of responsibility for Jasonâs death.â

You are my heaven 3 (Bruce Wayne x f!reader)
It was supposed to be a little imagine of a dark and lonely Bruce Wayne switching place with another Bruce Wayne from a parallal universe, but I wrote more than I thought. And then you asked for more :)
My masterlist is here.
Part 1 // Part 2
Warnings: no proof reading, stressed out neglect!Bruce, mentions of dead characters, jealousy and all kind of bad feelings, language
This was Hell. It had to be a nightmare, right? It couldnât be the reality. It couldnât be the truth. Someone was toying with him, torturing him even. It had to be an illusion of some sort. Or maybe he was stuck in the darkest part of this mind, full of his worst fears.
No child, no wife, no Alfred, no Justice League, no good day, no good night.Â
Gotham wasnât usually funny, but this was pure punishment.
At first, Bruce thought that the worst part was how awful the business was with Wayne Enterprises; there was so much work to take care of, all the time, and no one he felt like he could trust.Â
Then he realised how empty his manor was. It was dark and quiet. It was making him want to throw up because of how tight it was making his chest and stomach. He couldnât stand this utter silence. He couldnât stand to not be able to play the annoyed mentor with his children and the good husband to you.
Not even having Alfred was a punishment, a torture, a cruel life. How was he supposed to care about everything without Alfred? How was he supposed to stay sane without the man who raised him? How was he supposed to survive without him?Â
He so deeply missed the children. He tried to find them, but they were in prison, dead or gone from Gotham: Dick was a police officer who died during a mission, Jason was in prison, Tim died in his parents' accident, Stephanie had left Gotham forever, Cassandra killed herself to not be a killer anymore, Duke died as he looked for the Joker, Damian didnât exist.
And Barbara looked so happy, Bruce didnât even dare going to talk to her. And when he passed by her, hoping she would talk to him, she just seemed surprised to see Bruce Wayne in her local library. All the people he knew didnât know him anymore or werenât there to know him or to care about him.
In some desperate attempt, he looked for Talia, but the league of assassins simply kicked his ass for having tried and reached for her. They werenât interested in him, merely wondering how he knew about them. He almost got killed that night, but he found a way out, like he always did.
Except he didnât seem to be able to find a way out from this Hell.
The worst part was definitely your absence. He was so used to going to bed with a pretty little wife by his side. He was so used to kissing her goodnight. He was so used to her cute little whines for five minutes more of cuddles in the morning. He was so used to having his arm around her waist wherever they went. And he missed that so much. He wanted you so badly. He needed you so badly.
Fuck, he promised himself to not ditch any more dates with you once he would be back to what reality was supposed to be. He would take such good care of you. He would make you forget about the divorce papers and not just by saying to Alfred âShe had a good life here and she loves the children, so sheâll stayâ. No, he would make sure you actually wanted to stay. With him. With your husband.
He needed to find you in this world. Maybe you could help him, at least to not completely go insane.
He quickly found you, and for a brief instant, he was so relieved that you seemed to know him. You clearly werenât his wife since you didnât even live in the manor, but thank god he hoped you were his girlfriend. But your coldness hurt him more than he would ever admit it.
âWhat do you want, Bruce?â you groaned when you saw him at your door
âJust wanted to check on youâ the man tried to smile
âLook, Iâve already told you that Iâm not interested. You creep me out, man. And itâs not because the cops wonât do anything if I call them, that you can keep going here. So please, stay away from me and stop sending me gifts that I need to send you back. Weâre not a thing, and weâll never beâ you told him before closing your door.
Bruce knew he was going to lose it.
He started to try and recall what happened the night before everything changed so drastically in his life. He slowly remembered this mission with the mad scientist. He remembered the light he saw right after he was going to sleep by your side. He was feeling so weak and strange then. Something happened then.
He needed to find the man. When he did, the scientist was actually a teacher in the University of Gotham, who was talking about the possibilities of parallel universes. It was how Bruce finally understood what happened. It wasnât his reality. It wasn't an illusion. It was another world.
For a very brief instant, he felt very bad for the version of himself who had to deal with this world and this constant loneliness. But he couldnât care. He wanted to get back home, surrounded by his people and their attention. He was relieved in a way because now he knew how to escape from this place.
He worked hard for several months. He showed a very dark version of himself, as he was forcing the scientist to find a way to send him back. He was slowly losing himself. He needed to come back home soon, or he would start to actually kill; why would he care about crossing the lines in a world that wasnât his? In a city that didnât like him anyway? In a life where no one loved him?
The media were commenting on how ruthless Batman was lately. Bruce couldnât help it. He was feeling so bad. And there was this nasty little voice inside his head telling him over and over again that âMaybe no one realised you were gone. Maybe no one wants you back. Maybe thatâs why youâre still there months after. Another man is fucking your wife, another man is talking to your children and to Alfred, another man is leading WE and the Justice League. And they all donât care. Worst, they like him betterâ
The scientist wasnât obsessed with the idea of getting rid of Batman so he thought about things quite differently. He found a way to send Bruce back to his world but he didnât switch places. So when Bruce arrived where he was supposed to be, he was quite shocked to see another him.
What was worse was that you were by his side, laughing at something the man murmured to you. His arm was wrapped around your waist. It was then that your husband noticed how round your belly was. You were pregnant. You were heavily pregnant. There was no way it was actually his child. It had to be his. Didnât you notice it wasnât your husband who was making love to you? Or did you want it? Him?
The sole idea was driving him crazy with pain and raw jealousy. The jealousy that the Bruce of the other world felt when he first arrived in this world, the ârealâ Bruceâ felt it too. His life has been stolen away from him, and he needed to get it back.Â
It drove him even crazier when he saw how his children acted around the stranger. How could they all seem so happy around him? He hoped that no one understood what happened. He hoped that you all thought it was him.
He didnât know what to do though. He couldnât come back to the manor, he couldnât show his face, so he hid in the dark for a little while. He kept stalking all of you, getting sick in the stomach each time he saw his children or you or the Justice League with his other self. Everyone seemed to do so much better.
Or maybe it was just his paranoia and the mean voices inside his head that wanted to make him believe that you all loved this other Bruce better than him. He couldnât stop thinking about the child you were carrying. He had wanted that too, but you never seemed ready.
And nowâŠ
Now he needed to find you.

Chapter Thirty: Cream Wild Indigo
Two Christmases passed, bleeding into New Yearâs, Mardi Gras, Easter, and the Fourth of July, and Jason still hadnât left Houma or Josh. He kept telling himself heâd go home, but every time he thought to leave, heâd look at Josh, and his heart would ache so badly, he decided to stay behind. Heâd taken things slowly, thinking that Joshâs effect would wane as his grief passed, but his affection for Josh only grew as time passed. One night, Jason woke up feeling oddly bold as he approached Joshâs bedroom door. He knocked, sheepishly standing outside, his gaze cast downward as he waited. Josh opened the door, wearing a pajama shirt and basketball shorts. He scratched his stomach, squinting at Jason in the dark. âĂa va?â Josh asked as he lifted Jasonâs chin. âI forget you shy⊠You wanna come in here?â Jason nodded. âYou wanna talk?â Jason shook his head. âYou wanna do more than kiss?â Jason wasnât sure how to answer, so he didnât. âYou wanna kiss me, though?â Jason nodded, staring into Joshâs eyes.Â
Josh leaned in, and Jason closed his eyes, meeting Josh halfway as their lips touched. Jason placed a hand on his own stomach, acknowledging the difference and the butterflies that came with it. Josh was gentle, leaning back to see if Jason was willing to chase him⊠And Jason did more than just chase. He grabbed hold of Joshâs pajama shirt, pulling him close as their lips parted. âI love you,â Jason whispered as he took a breath.Â
âI love you, too. Still want to come in?â Josh questioned. Jason nodded, taking Joshâs hand as he stepped past the threshold for the first time. They didnât kiss again that night as Josh held the sheets up, allowing Jason to climb under them, sharing the warmth. They didnât do anything except talk.Â
âPeterâs my middle name,â Jason confessed.Â
âAlright⊠I like when we go out dancinâ. I pretend I donât wanna dance, but I feel somethinâ special when you close to me like that,â Josh replied, his eyes squinting and eyebrows pulled together in a severe expression. Jason grinned.Â
âYouâre the first boy I ever loved. First boy I ever kissed,â Jason whispered.Â
âI figured so⊠Your family donât take light to that? Is that why you donât write or call them?â Josh questioned.Â
Jason shook his head. âNo⊠Itâs not like that. My mama, sheâs had a few loves in her life. Not all of them were men,â Jason answered, âI justâ. If I let them know where I am, theyâll ask me to come home⊠And Iâ. I wouldnât hesitate. Iâd go⊠But I know Iâm notâ. Iâm not ready to go.â
âSo, they donât know you here?â Josh asked. Jason shook his head. âWhy you leave?âÂ
âIâm adopted⊠Itâs no secret. They took me in when I was eleven⊠My stepmother, who I believed was my birth mother died⊠And my mama took me into her home, taught me her way of doing things, and she gave me everything I could ever dream of and more. She offered me the best education available, all the books I could read, miles and miles of land to explore, and I ate. God, did I eat⊠It was a huge step up from the abandoned apartment I lived in alone⊠And my brother never saw me as anything but his brother. He used to sneak into the room to keep me company when I was sickâŠ
âAnd my grandfather⊠I was so afraid of him for so long, but I know now that he wanted me to be strong. He had his way of doing things, and I can respect it now⊠But, I left home to meet my birth mother as soon as I learned her name. It didnât work out, and I felt so guilty for leaving⊠Especially in the way things turned out⊠I couldnât go home and look them in the eye after that,â Jason explained. Josh played with Jasonâs long curls.Â
âI know they miss you⊠You have a gentle way about you, so I know your little brother must miss you somethinâ awful,â Josh whispered. Jason frowned. âI didnâtâ.â
âI missed his last three birthdays. Heâs ten. He just turned ten a week and a half before my birthday, and Iâ. Iâve been with you for a year,â Jason whispered.Â
âYou should go see him⊠Buy him something nice,â Josh whispered. Jason closed his eyes, pretending to be tired. Josh kissed his forehead. âWe wonât talk no more tonight.â
**
Jason didnât sleep in Joshâs bed again for nearly two weeks. It took him that long to build up the courage to do what he wanted. He made love to Josh and afterward, he lay beside Josh, holding back tears. âWhy you look so sad?â Josh questioned. âI knew you was leavinâ... You have to see your folks.âÂ
âBut Iâ. It might be a while before I see you again. I donât want to leave you,â Jason whimpered. Josh smiled, not completely understanding the weight of Jasonâs words.Â
âIâm not goinâ nowhere. Family real important⊠I been tellinâ you to go home. Jason, you go home and you let them know somebody here love you⊠And when you come back, Iâm gonâ show you how much I missed you,â Josh whispered as they shared a kiss. Jasonâs tongue brushed Joshâs as tears rolled across his nose and down his right cheek. Josh pulled away and wiped Jasonâs tears away. âDonât you cry now, ma moitiĂ©.âÂ
Hearing Josh say that made Jasonâs heart sick. He moaned in pain as he turned his face into the pillow. Josh rubbed Jasonâs back. Jason âDo you promise to be careful until I get back? And take care of yourself? Andâ.â Jason took his necklace off and gave it to Josh. âNever take this off. Ever.â Jason kissed the jeweled charm that hung down to Joshâs chest.Â
âLove charm?â Josh asked. Jason shook his head.Â
âProtection,â Jason replied, âWhen Iâm back in the United States, Iâll come for you.âÂ
âYou donât live in the US?â Josh questioned. Jason shook his head.Â
âNo, I grew up on an island. Iâll know youâre okay as long as you wear that charm,â Jason whispered. Josh nodded. And when Josh woke up, Jason was gone. The only evidence of his presence was the charm necklace and a letter.Â
**
Jason arrived home after three days, dog tired and longing to hear Joshâs voice. He could still smell Joshâs cologne on his skin. It smelled like Houma on the jet. He trekked through the forest for half a day, taking the long way home. It was dark when he arrived, and he quietly explained to the guards that he didnât want Raâs, Talia, or Damian notified of his return. They let him through, and he crept toward Damianâs room. Damian tossed and turned, muttering in his sleep. Jason smiled, touching Damianâs little hand only to be met by a knife. Jason grabbed his wrist before Damian could hold the blade to his throat. âDi, is that any way to say hello?â Jason asked. Damianâs eyes widened as he stared at Jason. âIâve missed you.â
âGÄ, did Grandfather call you home?â Damian whispered. Jason shook his head.
âWhy would he call me home?â Jason questioned as he held Damianâs face in his hands. He could see a darkness in Damianâs eyes that wasnât there before, but his soul smelled so warm and sweet like an infant. âOh, how Iâve missed you, Diâ. Damian.âÂ
Damian hugged Jason. âYouâre going to Gotham with me⊠Arenât you?â Damian asked. âIâm leaving soon.â
âIâll have to talk to Grandfather in the morning before I can answer that. Iâve been gone so long, Iâm not sure what heâll want from me now,â Jason answered, âYouâve gotten so big. I missed you every day that I was gone. Youâve never been far from my mind.âÂ
âSaruâsâ. Sheâsâ.â Jason nodded and frowned. âWhy didnât you come home whenâ?â
âIâll explain it to you in a little while. Will you be up for a little while? I want to sleep in here with you⊠Iâll tell you about my new friend,â Jason answered. Damian nodded, letting Jason go. They had so much catching up to do. It felt like several lifetimes since they were last in that room together.

Hey, sorry to bother you but I was wondering, based on your latest post, if you have any Leslie Thompkins recommend reads? I'd like to read more about her but I don't really have the time to read everything she has been on and those are the only reading guides I seem to able to find. Thank you in advance.
Oooh, Leslie recs. Leslie is a Dennis O'Neil creation, which means a lot of her best stories are actually found in the period when O'Neil was head of the Bat office. A lot of his characters got expanded, made more complex and given more importance because Bat writers were suck ups respected Denny and liked to acknowledge his impact on the broader narrative.
Recs can be a bit hard, as she's often in the middle of other stories, and the additional context adds a lot, but for my mind, here's a bunch of suggestions (with explanations beside them):-
A bunch of the earlier stories are sort of repetitive, and pre-Crisis Leslie is not quite the same character as post-Crisis Leslie. If you want a taste, Batman #457, "There is No Hope in Crime Alley" gives you the initial premise of Leslie as the woman who was there to comfort Bruce immediately after his parents were shot, and who is a committed pacifist interested only in helping the community.
However, a better start would probably be Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #21-23. Mike Barr's essentially the creator of the concept of Leslie Thompkins' Clinic (it first features in the last page of his Batman Year Two), and this story both retells Leslie and Bruce's history together, but also wrestles with how Leslie sees both Bruce and Batman and their violence, and her desire to help fix the city in a pacifist, hands-on manner.
There's some good stuff in Knightquest actually but extracting it is a bit of a mess: you want Batman #505 and Batman: Shadow of the Bat #26 & 27. I'm a big fan of the Abattoir arc in Knightquest, which this forms part of, and this is about Leslie's work helping underprivileged kids in Gotham - in this case counselling some traumatised Wayne Foundation kids.
Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #118: This is a No Man's Land story set in Leslie's refugee camp where Alfred comes to tell stories to the kids. Just a good look at the work Leslie was doing.
Batman Chronicles #18 "Spiritual Currency": this is one of the stories I referenced. Set during No Man's Land, it's an argument between Leslie and Bruce over her treating Zsasz, who is badly injured. Probably my favourite encapsulation of Leslie's personal philosophy.
Gotham Knights #7: part of the 'Bruce interrogates his psyche and connections to those he's close to' arc that ends in Transference. This one's about Leslie and Alfred's feelings over caring for Bruce.
Detective Comics #791-793: I wouldn't say these are the best Leslie Thompkins stories in existence, but I will say the discussions between Leslie and Bruce in them are on point, and are part of the lead in to where War Games ends up. Enjoy them for Leslie's philosophy, sigh deeply at the inherent racism.
War Games, in particular War Crimes, are a massive part of the Leslie narrative but also where a lot of problems arise. War Games in and of itself would be okay, and her fight with Bruce while she's treating Steph is quite in line with the story immediately above; it's War Crimes that really contains the massive retcon that does a lot of harm to Leslie's character.
As far as post-return to Gotham preboot stories, I think the best ones are actually her appearances in the Hit List of Red Robin #15-16. Leslie's got the Cavalier working for her to protect the clinic! Her comments to Tim when he protests it are so Leslie.
New 52 Leslie is essentially a different character; she's premised as a social worker who works with Julie Madison and is assigned to Duke Thomas among others.
In Rebirth she's returned to being the Leslie of preboot. Her better stories are the following:-
The Victim Syndicate in Detective Comics #943-947: The first victims of various villains want to remove the Bats from Gotham. Leslie, Steph and Harper Row are quite interesting in this in terms of a narrative over different ways to help Gotham.
Detective Comics #964 "Dystopia": Leslie is involved in Lonnie Machin's premised underground anarchist commune for the underprivileged. Follows up on the earlier story.
Punchline #1 and The Joker #1-15: this is a long arc about Leslie and the Rows working to have Punchline tried properly in court as complicit in her actions. It's the backup story to the Joker and it's been published separately as a trade.
