Actually if we want to talk about the lilienne/joyce ship I would like to bring up that it plays into the bourgeois woman’s fantasy of class dynamics in a relationship (à la lady chatterley), as well as the upper/middle class idea that their identity as women supersedes said class dynamics (and therefore they believe themselves to be in no position to oppress women of the working class) in a way that lends itself to reactionary movements like TERF ideology. As someone who lives in the uk and has been heavily affected by said ideology, joyce actually put me on high alert just by her voice and appearance.
I think it’s a mistake not to acknowledge that joyce is heavily thatcherite coded (the hair, the posh accent etc) especially when compared to lilienne who plays into the working class british woman archetype: she sounds welsh (considered a ‘lower’ accent), has young children, is a widower etc. It is fairly common to see the ‘confident mum who has to single-handedly support her young family’ in soap operas and other media, and she definitely plays into that stereotype.
Anyway, the ship is on the surface level a fun one, but let’s not overlook the framing as a one-sided and rather sinister set-up.

Дороги тянутся, и с них нам не уйти,
Планета вертится, и значит мы в пути.
Сиди сто лет, и забудешь, чего ждёшь.
Дорога улыбнётся, и ты пойдёшь
There's much i could say but i will just recommend to listen to the song linked, if only for the vibes 👍

that new thing where usamericans have started using more cockney adjacent accents to imitate british ppl they don’t like is kinda… idk it feels off,, esp when they’re using slang that’s attributed more to working class people. like what happened to making fun of posh people 🤨 i promise you boris johnson and jk rowling are not the ones saying bruv or innit

Seeing something about a Fire Emblem class being offered at college. I would never want a class about Fire Emblem, I wouldn't survive hearing anything discourse about it by modern college students IRL.
But it is reminding me of the time I delivered a senior thesis on the evolution of the hidden/overt LGBT representation in video games using Ike as an example back before Awakening was released.

isnt it crazy that someone can make a completely legal app for ios but if apple doesn't want it in its app store because of lol lmao reasons you have to then go through a gazillion loops just to get this one app and also millions of people buy apple's products because they don't see the problem with an operating system that fully controls what you can or can't have on your device and also has several other major problems. insane

It was such a gorgeous day today considering its the 2nd week of March in Michigan. Sadly, I spent almost all of my day inside laboring (on my laptop-pictured) over an essay about American veterans and homelessness- complete with cover, abstract, and references for community college english class. I'm only on page 2 Ugh 😫 This is not fun. Plus I have to get two of my classmates to peer review my essay before I can submit it- think I will get the cooperation of 2 classmates? I'm doubting it. I'll report back!

but yeah to piggyback off that post y'all have to understand that if you're not usamerican or got lucky in regards to english teachers, even writers like myself got so sick of being handed boring, surface-level interactions with media and being discouraged from anything else that ofc we hated having to explain why the curtains are blue. because it wasn't a discussion of "okay is this meant to set a tone? tell us something about the character, like is blue their favorite color? or is it meant to symbolize something deeper? what are the different ways we could interpret this?" it was "the curtains are blue because the main character is sad. we don't have time for anything else bc public schools are wildly underfunded and overcrowded depending on the district and i make like 40k a year so any differing opinions will be shrugged off at best and punished at worst."
