Oh man what happened with Walker? Was keeping up with it for a couple eps and it seemed to be getting decent reviews (by CW standards anyways...), sad to hear it nosedived so quickly lol
Oh man.
It's... really weird. Like, initially I was moderately positive on it, you know? Not my kind of show---like I never watch family dramas---but it seemed like they were trying to do something. Some different stuff from Jared, some more complex interfamily business. Still CW-y, but fairly interesting. I wrote some early review when someone asked that it was kinda dumb and not that well made but it was fun and easy and there were worse ways to spend 40 minutes, so whatever.
Now? Jeezus creezus. I mean, it's still dumb -- characters speak in therapy talk, no one has any moments of subtlety ever, relationships are stupid, blah blah -- but it's like... all of the talent has fully sailed out the window. I don't know what's going on. The writing in the last two episodes has been BAD and the directing/acting has been even worse. Even Jared is doing a pretty poor job and I don't like seeing that, and I don't know... why.
There's a storyline with a rival family to the Walkers that's being introduced with the nuance of a third grader scrawling in crayon. There's something with The Most Competent Gang In The World who were the bad guys for most of s1, except that because of Micki and her stupid big earrings and Walker and James wandering like idiots into a situation, somehow they've captured the leader with zero effort at all? What? Micki had some huge romance with some chode that came out of nowhere and meant nothing but she's sobbing like a goof because--why??
It honestly feels like a project put on by 19 year olds and I am bewildered. I don't know who the target audience is supposed to be. I don't know what they think the appeal is. If it's just to tune in and look at Jared, they're giving Walker nothing to do and he's barely in eps except to kind of pull dumb faces. The procedural element is batshit and boring so it can't be for that. If it's for the teens... honestly, the son and daughter are the best part of the show right now and that's not saying much.
All told... idk. I'm glad Jared gets an easy paycheck? That's the nicest thing I can say about it. Oh, and it's nice to see Texan scenery. Unless you feel like ogling a bur oak, tho, do not recommend.
