I'm playing Digimon: World Tour and while the aspect of not knowing exactly what digimon it will digivolve into, entirely dependent on which stays you raise, is kind of fun, the fact that it can turn into something you did not at all want and is butt ugly is def a negative.

Writing Snippets
"I didn't think you were serious," he whispered, eyes wide as he watched the specter droop against his friend.
E.R. shrugged, mindful of who was on his shoulders. "Yeah, I figured most of you guys would just assume I meant it figuratively."
"Yeah, nope," Riot added, popping the 'p' as he leaned against E.R. His voice had an echo to it, bouncing around the room. "I'm actually haunting you guys. Surprise!"
~~~~
There was a loud crash outside, followed by a yelping sound. He stuck his head out of the window. "Hello?"
Sammi blinked back at him, clutching her now bleeding knee on the ground.
"Don't tell Reiner."
"I'll go grab the first-aid kit."
~~~~
Gary looked over, a bit concerned as he saw Magimon staring slightly up at a wall.
"Uhhh Magimon? Buddy? You doing okay?"
His partner glanced over at him, smiling. "Yeah! Just listening to the players. And reading chat. They seem pretty excited for today! Anyway, what's up?"
~~~~
Gaiomon sat silently on the edge, overlooking the valley. Umbramon watched him, surprisingly serious for once as he contemplated something. Doubt flashed across his face, and he took a step back, turning towards camp again.
Munchy rolled their eyes and lunged forward, dragging a surprised Umbramon towards the unsuspecting Gaiomon.
The dragon samurai turned at the noise and almost jumped as Umbramon faceplanted next to him, having been launched by the chain chomp.
"So," he drawled, trying not to laugh as Umbramon pushed himself up, "how have you been, old friend?"
~~~~
Their family members rushed over as soon as they stepped out of the portal. Well, most of them did, anyway.
Reiner and Sammi were swept up into a tight hug by their mother, who was simultaneously sobbing and scolding. Sammi was crying as well, clinging to her, while Reiner tried to keep it together, though his eyes were wet as well. Impmon and Salamon watched from behind the two, smiling at the sight.
Grayson was talking with his grandfather, bright and animated as he introduced the old man to Terriermon. He glanced off to the side and was completely blindsided as his mother tackled him, pulling him into a hug. He was shocked, eyes wide, before Terriermon jumped on his head and introduced himself to his partner's mother. Who, judging by the scream, was not expecting the mon to move or talk.
Gary stood off to the side, standing tall with Magimon at his side as he stared quietly at his family. He seemed completely unphased by the disapproving looks his father was giving him, only smiling at his mother as she worried over him. His sister was talking to Magimon, clearly confused by what exactly the little guy was.
Eric had just finished introducing Monodramon to his mother (she was very grateful to the mon for helping him out) when he noticed someone slowly approaching. His smile slipped from his face, posture growing rigid as he stared at the person in front of him.
The others looked over at him, confused by his silence, and grew silent as well, vaguely recognizing the man who stood before their friend.
"Hey, Ryder," Riot's uncle greeted, sober and stern. "Where's my boy? Didn't he go with the lot of you?"
~~~~
(The last prompt has an alternate ending with another character, but I might save that for another time.)
the gift of communication
happy holidays to you, dear @citrus-cactus. i was your secret santa and i am very sorry this is so late. i was supposed to post this after one more check once i arrived but my parents told me that there was no need to bring my laptop, so here i am posting it using my ipad and i hope it still looks okay!
anyways, backstory aside, i do hope you enjoy this little thing i wrote! and i'm really sorry if this isn't what you had in mind. i had to re-watch some hurricane touchdown scenes to get wallace's character as good as i could, i would've watched the movie if i had the time so i super apologize if this isn't to your liking. i had a lot of fun writing it and i would really love to know your thoughts if you get the chance to give them :)
just a few notes in case you want to run ; editing mistakes here or there [there better not be…] // timeline is more on adventure 02 in between the ending and epilogue // this is not set in the same world as my other fics due to inspiration reasons // i will post this on ao3 soon // i tried my best to give the digimon feel and i think I achieved it, so…
…without further ado, i present to you this little fic. enjoy! have a merry christmas and a happy new year! 🥰
the gift of communication | main characters ; wallace, terriermon, lopmon, daisuke motomiya | pairings ; slight wallace x daisuke (if you squint), mentioned takeru x hikari, mentioned taichi x sora, mentioned yamato x mimi | genre ; friendship | word count ; 3,598 | rating ; g
Terriermon and Lopmon were enjoying the company of their fellow digimons. They told each other stories, laughed, and even played a little. At some point, they fell asleep next to each other after consuming most of the food and drinks that Miyako had brought for them for the day. Terriermon had his head rested against Chibimon who was snoring softly while Lopmon was a few inches away from them.
The Chosen Children were gathered around in a circle, sans Ken who had told them that he would be late but promised to come as soon as he could. He mentioned something about helping his mom with some gift-giving in an orphanage.
“So, Wallace,” Daisuke started, his head turned to him. “Since when did you like coming here to Japan?” It made him suspicious as he remembered that Wallace had kissed Hikari once. He kissed her cheek, and Miyako’s as well, but it was still a kiss. “Are you here for anyone in particular?” But Daisuke also knew he was in denial about the fact that Hikari and Takeru had had some sort of unspoken romantic feelings for one another. “I heard there are more women in New York.”
Wallace shrugged, simply ignoring Daisuke’s obvious accusations. “It’s a nice place to be in during the holidays. The spirit of Christmas is really taken seriously. Back in New York, people tend to be busy and get caught up with one another.”
“Looks like New York isn’t as cool as people say it is,” Iori said. “I’ve always thought it was a white Christmas there.”
Wallace nodded. “It sounds nice and it looks nice when you see it on tv and the movies but it isn’t spectacular or anything.”
“Nothing for you is ever spectacular,” Daisuke muttered. This made Hikari nudge him without much force and in turn made Takeru chuckle. “Either way, I’m glad you're here, Wallace. It’s been a while and I actually do miss you.”
Wallace’s eyes widened and his eyebrows raised. “You miss me?” he echoed. For him, that was a first for someone. “You. Miss me? You?”
“Am I not allowed to?” Daisuke raised an eyebrow.
Wallace smirked.
Daisuke narrowed his eyes. “Don’t push it.”
Miyako laughed. “Don’t mind him, Daisuke. It’s just Wallace being Wallace.”
“You don’t know much about me,” the American-raised boy defended. It was an absolute surprise to hear that from someone he had not had much interaction with in a while. “How could you say that?”
“We know enough,” Takeru spoke. “Like how you consider us as your friends. After all, you accepted our invitation to this gathering.”
Wallace did not reply. His mind was wondering how this group of friends suddenly thought that they were somehow close. It was not as if he did not like the group, he liked them a lot, especially after they helped him with Kokomon. But he needed to figure out how to handle this.
Hikari smiled at him. “Onee-san is throwing a surprise birthday party for Sora-san the day after tomorrow. You should go, it’d be really fun. We’ll be there, and I’m sure Terriermon and Lopmon would enjoy the company of being with more of their friends.”
“I’ll think about it,” he replied, still a little lost in thought. This invitation to her future sister-in-law’s surprise birthday party was, for him, a big step. He had not known much about them, yet they were thinking highly of him here.
What went into his head when he called Daisuke Motomiya yesterday to tell him that he was in the country, visiting for the holiday and seeing the sights with his mom.
He had called his home’s telephone, which made him feel anxious because he was not so sure what to say if it had been someone else who would answer. Luckily, it was Daisuke who took the call right away.
Was it because he was indebted? Because they helped him get Kokomon back? He did not think so, it could be more than that.
Just then, the door of Daisuke’s room opened and Ken appeared with Wormmom beside him. “I’m sorry for being late,” he said, bowing.
“Ken!” Miyako grinned. “The food’s almost gone, help yourself to what’s left, Wormmon.”
Ken chuckled nervously. “I’m sorry, Wormmon. I’m sure there’s still some good food somewhere there.”
“Of course! I always choose the best of the best,” Miyako said proudly.
Wallace watched as Ken walked from the door and sat down in between Miyako and Iori. They had briefed him of the former Digimon Kaiser. He felt the anger boil inside him as they told him the story, how could someone do that to digimons?
But they had assured him that Ken had changed and was very much on their side. He was a little skeptical, and truth be told he still was, but he told himself to watch out for Ken before he could make his final judgment.
“Hello,” Ken greeted. “You must be Wallace.”
He nodded. “Yeah. And you’re Ken, right? Ken Ichijouji?”
Ken nodded. “It’s a pleasure to meet you,” he said, raising his hand.
Wallace blinked a few times before shaking his hand. “And it’s great to finally meet you.”
“Ken!” Wormmom called him. “This is Terriermon and Lopmon!”
The group all turned back. Ken had a smile on his face. “I hope Wormmon treats you well.”
“Hey!”
Everyone laughed.
Iori said, “Try the new chocolate drink, Wormmon. I told Armadimon to hide one for you.”
“Here it is!” Armadimon held up the box.
“Thank you, Iori and Armadimon,” Wormmon said happily as he began to consume the drink.
Wallace watched as they looked at the worm-like digimon drink. Despite what had happened before, they welcomed Ken with open arms. It might take a while but he hoped he would fully forgive Ken and replace the thought of the poor digimons with happier faces. It sounded easier in thought but perhaps interacting with him more will be good for them both.
“This is so good, Miyako!” Wormmon exclaimed. He then dug into some snacks. “It's a good thing I didn’t eat before coming here.”
Wallace laughed. “That’s true, the food you brought really did make me feel full.”
Miyako grinned again. “I told you all! Wallace does like Japanese food.”
“Then I’m sure you’ll like the food that will be prepared for the party,” Hikari stated, smiling. “Please come.”
“I’ll think about it,” he repeated. But to be honest, he was very keen on going. “I’ll have to ask Terriermon and Lopmon first,” he added. “And my mom, of course.”
“Yes!” Terriermon and Lopmon shouted at the same time.
Hikari giggled. “I hope your mom says yes, Wallace.”
‘I hope so, too,’ he thought. He smiled at them. “Yeah, let’s see.”
On the way back to the hotel, Wallace carried Lopmon as Terriermon sat on his favorite spot, Wallace’s head. Wallace had not spoken to either of them as they walked. This did not go unnoticed by his digimon partners.
Both Terriermon and Lopmon were looking at their human partner, then they would look at each other, then back at Wallace, and then make eye contact again, and the cycle repeated a few more times before both sighed.
“What’s got you thinking?” Lopmon asked, looking up at his partner. He touched his cheek and patted it a few times. “You’ve been quiet since we left Daisuke’s house.” He tilted his head. “Don’t tell me you didn’t have fun, Wallace. I know you did, everyone could see it.”
Wallace sighed and looked down at the brown digimon. “I’m just wondering about the party they invited me to. Invited us to.”
“What about it?” Terriermon questioned. “You want to go, don’t you? I saw the way you smiled, you seem excited about it.”
“I do,” he admitted. “I do want to go and it does seem pretty exciting.” But as they left the Motomiya residence, he had a sudden reflection about the other Chosen Children. “But what about the others? I don’t know much about them, they don’t know much about me. I’ll feel left out.” He was never really scared of being alone, but he found this situation different. Maybe because they all had something in common. “I don’t think it’d be fun if that was the case.”
Terriermon and Lopmon looked at each other.
“We’re sure Daisuke won’t leave you alone,” Terriermon said. “And neither will the others.”
“You can’t be sure,” Wallace said.
“Sure we’re sure,” Lopmon said. “They like you, Wallace. They won’t let you feel left out. I’m sure they’ll even introduce you to the others.”
Wallace bit his bottom lip. “I’ll ask Mom if we can go. It won’t be until the day after tomorrow, I don’t think it’ll be too sudden.”
“And besides, your mom will be happy you have friends here,” Lopmon added and Terriermon nodded in agreement.
That made Wallace smile. “Yeah, I think she will be.”
“Cheer up, Wallace.” Terriermon smiled. “I’m sure everyone will be glad if you go.”
He nodded. “Let’s go ask Mom then.”
Both Terriermon and Lopmon grinned. “Yay!” they exclaimed.
“You two do seem so excited about this,” Wallace said, chuckling.
“We want to see you happy,” Lopmon told him. “And we’re glad that you have friends here.”
Wallace smiled and nodded. Then, it dawned on him that in a few days, before Christmas day, he would have to leave the country and head back to New York. He had not told them this—they had not asked—but he would have to soon and it made him feel sad knowing that he would leave them behind. “Just when things were brightening up,” he murmured.
“What was that?” the two digimons asked in unison. “What did you say?”
Wallace shook his head. “It’s not something I want to talk about right now, and I don’t want to think about it yet either. Let’s just enjoy the rest of our stay here while we can. Japan is a nice place, let’s not ruin the vacation. Okay?”
The two digimons looked at each other for a few seconds before nodding as they shifted their eyes to Wallace. “Okay.”
As Wallace and the twins expected, his mother was very happy that he had made friends. “I didn’t expect this,” she admitted.
“They’re the same friends I told you about before,” he said. “I…missed them.”
“Is that why you wanted to come here for the holiday?”
Wallace nodded slowly.
His mother grinned. “I’m glad you’re finally letting yourself out there.” Then she tilted her head. “But how did you find them?”
“I asked for help from Mimi-san,” he answered. “You remember her.”
“Oh yes, that pretty girl you met back home.” She smiled.
“She’s in a relationship,” he immediately said, knowing where that smile was headed.
She giggled. “Alright then. When is the party again?”
“The day after tomorrow,” he replied. “A lot of people will be there. My friends and their older brothers and their friends as well. And Terriermon and Lopmon’s friends, too.”
“My, isn’t that a big party,” his mother said. “And you don’t know the others?” Wallace shook his head. “You won’t feel out of place?” Again, he shook his head. “You won’t be in the corner alone?” He let out a soft chuckle before shaking his head once more. He was suddenly so sure, surprisingly, that he would not be left alone by the group. Terriermon and Lopmon really do have an effect on him. “But you’ll have fun, won’t you?”
“I will,” he assured. “I know I will.” He knew very well that he would have a lot of fun. ‘I know I will,’ he repeated in his head. ‘I know I will.’
“That’s good. That’s all I needed to hear.” His mom grinned. “So what’s the theme? What will you wear? We’ll need to make a good impression on them. I know how you can be, Wallace.”
He rolled his eyes. “It’s like you have no faith in me.” His mother frowned. “I don’t know much. I’ll call Daisuke and ask for more information.”
“Okay. But remember to just tell me if you need anything. Anything at all.”
“Yes, Mom.” He smiled.”You’re just as excited as Terriermon and Lopmon.”
“We’re just very happy for you, Wallace.” His mother leaned to kiss his forehead. “My sweet boy, I’m really happy for you.”
“Thanks, Mom.”
When she straightened her body, she added, “I would very much like to meet your friends one day. Maybe invite them after the party. Perhaps the next day or the day after that?”
Wallace nodded. “Yeah, I’ll ask them. Will you be cooking?” He had always loved his mom’s cooking and was very proud of how others liked them as well.
“Of course, I need to make a good impression on them, too.”
They both laughed.
The day of the party had arrived and Wallace was quite nervous about it. He had kept himself composed and ready for the event the past day but he did not think about what would happen as he was on the way to the Takenouchi residence.
“Aren’t you excited?” Terriermon asked cheerily.
“I am!” Lopmon answered. “What about you, Wallace?”
Wallace put on a smile. “I am. I am excited. But I’m a little nervous, but I guess that’s a normal thing to feel when you’re about to meet a bunch of new people.”
Lopmon nodded. “Don’t worry, you’ve got us. We can leave anytime you want.”
“Thanks, guys.”
They continued to walk and then finally arrived at the condominium. As they entered, having made sure that Terriermon and Lopmon had returned to playing as stuffed animals, he walked to the receptionist and informed them that he was there for the surprise party in the apartment of the Takenouchis.
Just as the receptionist gave him the floor and room number, an unfamiliar voice called his name. “Wallace?”
He turned around and recognized the man in front of him. “Koushiro.”
The redhead smiled at him, his digimon partner in his arms. “That’s me.” He walked closer to Wallace and stopped just a few inches away from him. “Takeru-kun said you would come.”
“I was a little hesitant,” he lied, not wanting to sound too eager. “But I thought it would be fun to make new friends and, you know, hang out with them.”
“I’m glad you think so. I’m sure Taichi-san and the others would love to meet you. Mimi-chan is here already. I know you two are acquainted with one another.”
“Yes,” he said. “We met in New York one time, she recognized my partners.”
Koushiro nodded. “This is Tentomon.” Then he paused. “Let’s get going,” he said as he looked around the lobby. There were not many people but they still had to be careful.
The two, with their partners, rode the elevator going up. Wallace was getting a little more nervous now. He got a warm welcome from Koushiro, yes, but what about the others?
‘What’s got you hot and bothered by this, Wallace?’ he questioned himself. ‘This shouldn’t keep you on your toes.’
“They’re really nice,” Koushiro said, as if reading his mind. “My friends are really nice. You don’t have to worry about them. Not even Yamato-san can ruin your mood.”
“What do you mean?”
Koushiro smiled. “He’s been a handful before, but he’s become very mellow over the past few years. He smiles a lot more, too, ever since he started dating Mimi-chan.”
Wallace looked at him.
“I didn’t read your mind, if that’s what you’re thinking,” Koushiro added with a soft chuckle. “I just saw it in your body language.”
Wallace raised his eyebrows. He was always so calm, not once had he shown people his true thoughts and feelings. How did Koushiro know about this?
“I was like you before, back when I was young. Even before I met Taichi-san and the others. I hid myself behind my laptop, not once showing emotions. But when I started hanging out with them…it felt good, it felt nice. I felt like I belonged. That’s how great they are.” Koushiro looked at him. “Chosen Child or not, they’re nothing to be afraid of.”
Wallace grinned. “Thank you.”
They reached their floor and they quickly walked to the apartment. Not everyone was there yet but when Daisuke saw that Wallace had arrived, he grinned and walked over to him. “You came! You’re here!”
Terriermon and Lopmon grinned as well. “Are the others here, too?” Terriermon asked.
“Of course,” Daisuke answered. “They’re at the back.”
Terriermon and Lopmon leaped from Wallace’s arms and ran down the hallway.
“They’re excited,” Koushiro said as he let Tentomon fly away. “I’ll catch up with you guys later.”
Wallace gave him a nod while Daisuke’s eyes followed Koushiro’s steps. When he was in the kitchen, Daisuke grabbed Wallace’s wrist and dragged him to the living room. “You have to meet Taichi-san!”
Wallace’s heartbeat raced. He was about to meet the highly talked about Taichi Yagami.
They stopped in front of a young man whom Wallace knew all too well just basing it on pictures. “Taichi-san!” Daisuke greeted. Taichi looked back and gave Daisuke a questioning look before looking at Wallace. “Taichi-san, this is Wallace.”
“Oh, so you’re the Wallace Hikari-chan talked about.” He raised his hand and said, “Taichi.”
“It’s so great to finally meet you.”
Meanwhile, in the background, they ignored Daisuke’s question about Hikari talking about Wallace to her older brother.
“Sora will be here soon, I suggest you find a place to hide. Daisuke can lead you around. I’ll get to know you more later, alright?”
Wallace nodded. “Okay.”
Daisuke narrowed his eyes. “Hikari-chan talks about you.”
Wallace could not help but laugh. “Let’s find a place now. As Taichi said, Sora will be here soon.”
The surprise party was a success. Sora arrived with her mom and was shocked to see her friends surrounding her and shouting “happy birthday”.
Sora’s eyes teared up but she was smiling from ear to ear. “And I wonder who came up with the idea,” she said, giggling.
Taichi went up to her and intertwined his fingers with hers. “Take a wild guess.”
She giggled some more and gave her fiancé a kiss and everyone clapped. Then, Sora went over to hug and thank everyone in the room, including Wallace.
“It’s very nice to meet you,” she said when she stopped over to hug and thank him. “I’ve heard good things about you.”
For some reason, that made Wallace’s cheek turn pink. “I hope so.”
Sora smiled.
The party was still in full swing—that is, everyone was chatting with each other and the food and drinks needed refilling—when Wallace headed over to the balcony for some fresh air. He was just overwhelmed with how friendly the others were, how they welcomed him with open arms, and how comfortable he was with them. He hated that he would be leaving soon.
He has instructed Terriermon and Lopmon to play with the other digimons as he wanted to be alone for a while. The twin digimons seemed to have sensed it as they did not object to the request.
Just then, someone stood beside him, holding up two drinks, and offering one to him. Wallace did not bother to look up as he took the cup, he was actually thirsty but was not yet ready to go back inside. “Thank you.”
“If you just want to stay silent that’s fine with me, but let me stay here with you for a bit.”
Wallace nodded. “The party’s a success.” He looked back at the gathering behind him and then back to the horizon. “Taichi really loves her.”
“He does,” Daisuke said. “They’re in love.”
“How are you and Hikari?”
Daisuke sighed. “I’ll give up soon enough. She and Takeru have a lot of stuff going on, going around each and all. They have a history. They have the present. And,” he paused. Wallace could see how heartbroken Daisuke was about this. “And they have a future.”
Wallace pursed his lips. “There’s someone else out for you, I promise.” He placed a hand on Daisuke’s shoulder and rubbed it. “I know it.”
Daisuke smiled. “Thanks, Wallace. You’re a good friend, you know that?” He raised his hand and rubbed Wallace’s shoulder. “I know Mimi-san is missing a lot.”
Wallace shook his head. “Why does everyone think I’m into Mimi?”
“Uh, because it’s obvious? The way you keep looking at her? The way Yamato-san looks as if he’s about to start a fight soon.”
Wallace felt like he was shrinking. “I didn’t notice.”
Daisuke laughed. “Anyway.” He regained his composure. “I don’t want to ask but it’s bound to happen. When are you leaving?”
“Three days from now,” he answered, his head bowed down. “I don’t wanna leave,” he admitted. “I’m…having a good time.”
Daisuke nodded. “Yeah, I know you are.”
They stayed quiet until Daisuke ended it by asking, “What do you want for Christmas?”
Wallace cocked his head to the side. “What?”
“What do you want for Christmas?” Daisuke repeated. “You’re leaving three days before Christmas Day and I want to give you something before we part ways.”
Wallace was silent. Then, he took out his phone and handed it over to the man in front of him. “Can you give me your email?”
“My email?” Daisuke echoed.
“Yeah,” Wallace nodded, “I’d really like it if we talked some more. Even when I’m back in the US, I want to be able to communicate with you guys properly.”
Daisuke grinned. “You read my mind.”
Ok so hear me out: all the characters with the same or intersecting evo line (ie, Yu and Miu both having marineangemon in their partner's evo lines) partners and their partner digimon have to solve an escape room together. What would the top three (time wise) and last place teams be?
Team Wormmon and Team Tentomon I think would tie for first. Overanalyzing and a dash of poor communication on both teams slows them down a little but not enough to make a difference.
Team Lopmon has an actual detective and a Shuuji on it so I think they'd do well. Unironically I think Suzie would actually be helpful for pointing out the obvious whenever the others start over thinking even if she's not the sharpest tool in the shed herself.
I feel like there are several teams that make a solid contender for third...but I'm handing it to Team MarineAngemon for having 1 Very Smart Boy, 1 Very Outside Of The Box Thinker, and 1 Lad Whose Role In Tamers I Swear To God Was Just Being A Living Deus Ex Machina And Who I Wouldn't Be Surprised If He Found The Final Key Out Of The Escape Room On Accident. Also assuming their partners don't HAVE to be in their same forms (i.e. Syakamon can just be Syakomon instead of MarineAngemon and could therefore talk) Syakomon would be very helpful.
(Should there be a separate Team Syakomon for Miu and the Poi Brothers from 02?)
Anyways, bottom three
The humans on Team Falcomon aren't very bright. Luckily, they are at least very observant. Keenan's Falcomon really carries. All this to say they're not very good at this but they're definitely not the worst.
Team Veemon isn't smart but it's small so there's a little more communication and a little less chaos than Team Agumon and that is the only thing keeping them out of last.
Team Agumon is in dead last. Things truly could not have gone worse for them. There is only one braincell between ALL of them, including the mons. It's Takuma's and it's fully devoted to keeping the others from breaking the door down instead of solving anything. They're in there so long the workers have to let them out.
Honorable mentions
-Team Rosemon does very well for a while until Mimi absolutely loses it over being stuck in a small space for too long and demands to be let out
-Team Ankylomon was seconds away from taking third. Better luck next time, team Ankylomon.
-Team Terriermon is disqualified because despite the fact that Henry was doing just fine solving things The Right Way, Aiba decided to cheat and Willis is a filthy enabler. Yes I'm counting Aiba as team Terriermon even though Terriermon is only one of the partners they could have. I mean, I counted Keisuke as Team Tentomon.
-Team Cyberdramon gets kicked out because Ryo's Cyberdramon keeps breaking shit.
-Team Beelzemon consists of an idiot and two toddlers and only weren't in the bottom three because one of those Beelzemons is smart. The other one nearly tried to shoot the door.
-Team Sakuyamon was also one of the worse teams, but not for a lack of trying. A little bit of confusion about the modern world here, a little bit of short tempers there, and they were struggling. They still hung out afterwards.
Hi there! For the Digimon ask game: 23 and 39, if you don't mind?
Hi! I don't mind at all! I don't get asked these things very often, so I'm always excited to do them!
23. Moments that made you smile or cry
So smile is an easy one. Every time the kids get to see their Digimon again, whether that be in 02 when the 01 kids see their partners again or in Tri when they return to the human world. I love seeing the excitement on the kids' faces when their Digimon evolves to the next level as well.
Cry would definitely be when the kids and their partner's are separated. Doesn't matter if it's Adventure, 02, Tamers, or Frontier. It always makes me sad. When Jeri's Leomon was unalived, that broke me as well. I cannot imagine how painful that must had been.
39. Do you own any merchandise
Yes! So I have a D3 that I painted to fit my own color. I also purchased the new 2020 Digivice. I'm also waiting for the anniversary Tamers digivice to come in.
I have a vital bracelet, but I haven't worn it yet 😅
I have sooooo many plushies too!!! 2 Terriermons, 2 Lopmons, Gummymon, Yuramon, Tanemon, Floramon, Poromon, Upamon, the life sized Gatomon and Wormmon, a really big Renamon, Tsunomon, Viximon, Nyaromon, Tokomon, Patamon, I know I have more I just can't think of them all now lol
I had plushies made of my own Digimon OCs: Seriemon, Pinnimon, and Margomon. A Mizumon plush is in the works as well!
I got a really awesome crest from New File Island on Etsy as well!
(Battle against a…. Rookie?)
As the silence between the groups set in, suddenly a distant scream echoes somewhere in the forest, followed by a minute of silence only to be shattered by a Terrifying shriek erupts and by the sounds of it, it's getting closer.
And a Digimon just raced out of a bush with a look of "OHHHH NO"
Still holding onto her anger, Sabrina looked to where the other Digimon were running from. Something definitely didn’t feel right, and she probably should walk away before she got into a fight with the small plant. She noticed Terriermon had vanished to wherever they had called a home.
“Meramon, you thinking what I’m thinking?” Sabrina was getting ready to run off.
Meramon smiled. “Yeah.”
As Meramon and Sabrina...turned and ran off, Aruraumon just stared in bafflement for a moment.
"Wha-? HEY! Get back here!" She screamed before storming off after them.
"Welp, I guess this is what we're doing now." Neil shrugged as he followed.
The Digimon that was running races past the running groups, and skids next to a cave, setting down- Wait hold up is that a human? A....Very distressed human.
The Digimon then pulled out a hammer and raced toward the demonic shrieking.
"WHAHUH?!!" Elecmon looks after the others, than back towards the shrieks.
Ronald falls put of the tree just as Elecmon moved to investigate the sound, landing safely on top of Elecmon.
"GAH- RONALD BECAREFUL!!" Elecmon scolds before glancing worriedly towards the screams.
Maybe following after Meramon and Sabrina would be a better choice to standing around here and finding out what was making those noises...
When Sabrina reached the screeching, she skids to a stop; Meramon was not far behind her.
In front of her was a massive looking jellyfish thing and the only thought going through her head was a line from her favorite video game ‘big. stupid. jellyfish.’
She snorted to herself but ended up getting spotted.
Thankfully, the "Big. Stupid. jellyfish" seems to busy tossing the Digimon with a hammer into a rock so hard the rock Cracked.
"ShE iS mInE!!!" It shrieked but did glance over at her and blinked. It looked around, and attempts to sprint toward the distressed girl, who looked up with fear on her tear-stained face.
“Oh god- “Sabrina gasped, noticing the girl “Meramon! Do something!” She yelled, pointing in that direction.
“Right!” He shouted back, finally seeing the human.
The woman looked around quickly, then glanced at her stick of a weapon. The other Digimon with the hammer looked like they could use a bit of help as well. Gah, she hated thinking under pressure! Hoping that Meramon can stall the bigger guy, she ran over to the puppet.
Aruraumon leapt through the underbrush triumphantly. "HA! Can't outrun me in a fores-!" She couldn't continue speaking, as her jaw dropped, allowing Neil to catch up.
"Okay, this is a situation." He whistled. "Aruraumon? You good?"
"What the heck is Puppetmon doing here!?" She cried.
"Who?"
"He-oh, nevermind! Fight first, think later!" She leapt into the fray before he could stop her.
The Puppet hissed and got up. "A rookie shouldn't be able to hit That hard...Ow-" He finally looked up, blinking in shock. "And there's another human- ADELLA!" He started to try to head toward the mass of Digimon and human girl.
Said girl is currently getting dragged by her legs away from the group of Digimon. "GET UP GET UP GET UP!!!" The jellyfish shrieked- Apparently this guy was making those demonic sounds- as he tried to get the trembling, crying girl to move.
Meramon let off a roar, shooting his hand forward as he leapt into the air shouting “Fire Fist!” Punching the oddly large rookie.
Meanwhile, Sabrina reached Puppetmon. “Hey, Hi, how’s agoing- don’t answer that I can see this is bad-“Sabrina gasped in and out, running used to be her thing, but staying inside for so long made her lose her stamina.
She had taken notice of the hammer, and up close it looked like a revolver chamber with a metal poll attached to it.
“That’s a cool weapon” she gasped out. Then she had a thought, looking at her own. “Hey- wanna help me with a crazy idea?”
"Out of the way, Meramon!" Aruraumon butted into the action. "Nemesis Ivy!" Her thorns lashed out and wrapped around the only thing it could; Keramon's neck, who gasped in frustration and tugged hard. In response, she stuck her legs into the ground like planting roots. The two became locked.
"ToUgH!" Was all Keramon could choke out from the painful grip.
"Thanks!" She responded. Truthfully though, she was having to give it her all. This thing was strong!
After a moment, she willingly uprooted her legs, causing her to fly forward and deliver a powerful headbutt to its soft skull. Whilst the jellyfish recoiled in pain, it managed to twist free from the vines and grab her, slamming her head into the ground.
"DoN't PiCK A fiGhT!"
"Have you MET me!?" She twisted around and wrapped her vines around the tentacles.
"Bug Blas-!" As the plant suplexed it, an explosion was let off inside its mouth, sending the pair of them sprawling, only for them both to instantly recover and glare at one another.
Puppetmon looked at the human, back to the fight. "....Sure! My normal attacks aren't doing anything. What's the plan?"
The Keramon Growled, Glancing over at the human girl for a spilt second before noticing one of it's antenna was on fire and snuffed that out before smirking.
"BUG BLAST!" And proceeds to use that blast on the ground, dust flying up into the air around the battling Digimon, a slippery shadow racing about at surprisely high speeds, for a rookie.
Also "Oddly large" was a good way to describe this rookie, if Meramon and him stood next to each other with their backs straight, he would go up to meramon's shoulders!
“Okay-!” Sabrina quickly clapped her hands together; twirling out her wooden fishing rod, it wasn’t the best craftsmanship, but it was a good thought. The human looked over at Puppetmon for a moment, then at the dust that had risen.
“If bullets don’t work, I’d be surprised if this did.” She knelt down and held out the rod like she was going to throw it, but started talking once again “Rocket my fishing poll at it! It has a sharp tip!”
Puppetmon gave her an odd look, there was definitely no way this was gonna work. “Are you crazy?” He asked
“Yes!” She smiled widely.
“Fair enough.” The Mega shrugged. He lifted up the hammer in a ready motion
“When you have a good look at it, turn your hammer around and let the blast rocket at the nail!” She explained.
Meramon called out to Aruraumon over the dust angrily “look, I know you wanna fight badly, but perhaps focus on the other guy for now!” Meramon tried to find he’s way out of the dust and to the scared human.
"Don't tell me what to do!" She yelled back, taking a deep breath.
"Gloom Dust!" The flower atop her head closed, swelled, and erupted, as the obscuring brown dust was replaced by a sparkling, purple, poisonous dust, which left her unaffected, but Keramon hissing at a stinging sensation flooding over it, and Meramon glaring daggers at the plant whilst poison dust burned up on his body.
"Get back here!" Instantly she was back on the offensive with lashing vines, but this time Keramon flailed its tentacles to counter, the two armies of limbs slapping each other back. Keramon didn't have time for this!
That he didn't, and plus, why would he play with a Rookie?
Keramon, while still hissing, shrieks out a "Bug Blast!" and fires directly toward the plant digimon, bursting just before hitting her lighting up the area like a flashbang, followed by her getting hit back hand with enough force to send her tumbling Out of the cloud.
The jellyfish sends his attention toward the fire and starts to take 3 slashes and then a slammed the fire Digimon out of the fire but didn't get away from it without issue as he also got punched out of the cloud, face scorched slightly.
-
Meramon tumbled out...and landed right before the terrified human. She looked up, tears racing down her face and whole-body trembling. But...
"Are you okay?" Her voice was almost too soft to hear, but he did.
-
Puppetmon smirked. "FIRE!" And the fishing rod speeds forward.
“Ah-“ he chuckled, looking up at the new human “hey there…” he could still feel the poison a bit “I think I’m okay.”
Sabrina braced herself as she felt the boom throughout her body. Her ears rang and the splintering of her wooden weapon shot forth like shotgun pellets. Very sharp pellets. That same shrieking sounded off after the show.
Dropping her hand, she unclamped her teeth as she held her head. “Gaah! Why did I think that was a good idea?!”
Puppetmon laughed at her, smacking her back playfully. “But we got him!”
“What!?” Sabrina yelled through the ringing in her ears.
The Keramon was making a sound Akin to A metal fork in an active garbage disposal and that volume was up to the volume of a rock concert. He had floated away from the cloud, holding one of his eyes and glitching like someone had put a high-power magnet against a tv- all but one part of him. there was something around his neck, but they didn't get to see more than a glimpse of it before he ran.
When I say ran, I mean "Blink and he's Gone" kind of ran.
Adella was holding her ears, but looked at Meramon with a kind smile even though everything was starting to go black...
Aruraumon snarled as she leapt back to her feet. "Cheap shot! When I get my vines on that-!"
"Too late." Neil stated, walking over to her, and taking his hands off of his ears. "Looks like whatever it was, it's gone."
She blinked at that. Then positively seethed. "No fair. Coward." She pouted.
Meramon watched the new human black out. He caught her before she hit her head on anything and gently laid her out. Poor thing.
Puppetmon, after looking over the humans and shrugging, came racing over. "Oh no oh no did she get hit? I swear if she got poisoned by that rookie, I'll-!" He closed his eyes and took fives seconds to take a deep breath. "No, No, no kicking the butt of rookie Digimon, not right now." And comes over to look at the human with worry
Said human was starting to become red, breathing slightly heavy and still shaking slightly.
“What-? What happened?” Sabrina slowly caught up. She noticed the state the two were in “oh gosh…”
"I think she's just a bit....Since I met her she's eaten Nothing, drank Nothing, and has ran for her life once and now got kidnapped. And I know this," He gestured toward everything. "Would make ME pass."
Puppetmon sighed. "Listen, I don't understand Human biology! I just know this is a lot of stress."
“I’m no doctor, but the only we can probably do is let her rest… and have food ready when she wakes.” Sabrina sat next to Meramon worried “bud, you were great!”
“Guah, I didn’t do much- just threw a punch.” He waved her off “that angry little plant did most of the work” he then started dozing off “I think I might need… some rest too.”
“Meramon…?” Sabrina questioned, but he was out.
"Think he got hit with the poison cloud, but don't worry. Fire Digimon go through poison really fast, he just needs a nap." Puppetmon sighed, sitting next to Sabrina. "Name's Puppetmon, Um.....Sorry, for leading him to you guys."
"...The girl who is currently passed out is Adella." He adds on quickly, looking around a bit.
“Sabrina;” she referred to herself “nice to meet you, there are more of us… but they all seem to be out of the way at the moment…” she didn’t want to admit she actually ran at it instead of them being led.
Digidestined week day 3 & 4
Welcome to camp & campfire time!
I ended up making this a short story. I’ve put it behind  a read more. Hope you enjoy!
Terriermon and Haruko arrived at camp with a few other digidestined. Some she recognized from other series’.
“Oh, It’s Ikuto and Touma.” Haruko walked up to Touma who seemed to be setting up monitoring equipment.
“Oh, Haruko. Good to see you here.” He greeted her.
“Doing surveillance, I guess?” She glanced at Ikuto and back to him.
“Yeah,  we were getting Digimon readings around here. Ikuto is familiar with DIgimon behavior, so he’ll be a great help find any that may be lost.” He explained still setting equipment up.
“Oh...” Haruko seemed intrigued, maybe she’d come by later when it was put together. “I’m going to head to the cabin and get settled in.”
Touma nodded in acknowledgment as she walked towards the first one she saw. “Ack!” She tripped over a stair as she tried to enter the cabin.
Terriermon grabbed her arm to help steady her. “You ok?” He looked up at her.
“Yeah.” She grumbled. “I could have sworn there wasn’t a stair there.” She growled walking in.
She sat her things on the bed, got down on the floor and started looking for a power outlet.
“What are you looking for?” Terriermon tilted his head gazing at her.
“A power outlet so I can charge my Nintendo Switch.” She checked behind the bedside table, nothing.
“Um, sorry to tell you. But there’s no electricity here.” Haruko turned around to see Chika with a big bag on her shoulder.
“Eh?” She cried out dramatically. “Then how am I supposed to charge my stuff? I wanted to watch the sunset while playing games!”
Chika chuckled. “Guess you’ll just have to watch the sunset without it!”
Haruko sighed, hanging her head. She made sure to bring all the clothes she needed, sun lotion, hats and everything elsee you’d need for being outdoors. But she did not account for there not being luxuries she was used to.
Later that night...
“All right everyone, we got the campfire ready!” Masaru shouted from the fire. It was comedically large. Much too large for their small 10 people group.
“Masaru, we just needed a small fire. Was this really needed?” Touma gestured the huge fire.
“Hey, why not? What’s the harm?”
Chika coughed nearby. “It’s producing quite a bit of smoke.”
Masaru became annoyed, “Then you guys make it next time.” He muttered.
“Yeah!” His partner chimed in slumping after him.
“Ok, and it’ll be better than yours too!” Falcomon shouted back.
Haruko cautiously stood away from the flames. “It’s OK Haruko, we can get a little closer.” Terriermon placed an ear on her lower back.
“You sure?” She looked down at him concerned.
Terriermon nodded in agreement.
They took their seats around the fire, there were ingredients for s’mores nearby, which Agumon was helping himself to.
“Oi! Those are for all of us!” Masaru scolded smacking Agumon on the head.
“Sorry, aniki.” Agumon rubbed his head.
“How about a scary story?” Ikuto grinned bringing out a flashlight.
Everyone at the campfire was intrigued, minus Touma typing away at his laptop. He’d look up once in a while, but seemed to be busy summarizing analytics.
“Haruko, you go first.” Ikuto offered her the flashlight. She stared at it as first, not really sure what kind of story to tell.
She aimed the light at her glasses.
“Oh! It makes a nice effect on your glasses, you look like an evil scientist!” Chika marveled at her.
A small shudder came from Ikuto off to her side.
“I’ll try...” She said quietly. Terriermon patted her arm. “You’ve got this.”
“So, one Autumn day at school, my classmates were talking about these strange occurrences at night. See, one of my class mates left their book at school and needed for homework. They came to the school when it was pitch dark out. It was very windy and the trees creaked with pain.”
Everyone was captivated on her story, the Digimon especially nervously gnawing on their s’mores.
“She wasn’t sure if she could get in. But luckily the gymnasium door was open. When you enter the gymnasium there are windows above the bleachers for observers. WHen she looked up... It was lined with headless people.”
Everyone gulped, evern Terriermon was clinging to her arm .
“...But before she could turn around, the door slammed behind her,” Haruko stood up and took a deep breath. “BOOM!”
The camp burst into a fit of screams and goggles.
Haruko smiled softly looking around. It seemed it  was a good enough story. Everyone was commending her on a good story.
“See? You did a good job!” Terriermon grinned. “You need to believe in yourself more!”
Haruko nodded looking at the flashlight. She should try.
Hi, I am Killa_7 from askolderdigimontamers! Someone asked me a while ago how Impmon would deal with Teenage Tamers (considered they had their Digimon around at that time). I have not a big bond with that character, so I would be thrilled to hear other headcanons! It would be hillarious for sure :D Cool idea on this blog :D
Hello! Thanks for stopping by! (And thanks for the compliment! <3 <3 <3 )
Impmon, huh?
Tumblr media
I’ll admit, it’s been a while since I’ve seen Tamers, but Impmon was always one of my favorites. (He was like a less annoying DemiDevimon, haha!)
------
Impmon Dealing with Those Meddling Teens
Impmon with Teenage Ai and Mako
If we’re talking purely Ai and Mako, his partners, I have a feeling they’re only slightly less annoying than they were when he first met ‘em. Considering I’m still technically a teenager, I’m allowed to say that hormones are little bitches, and Ai and Mako will not be spared. They might even fight MORE than they did as kids! Thankfully, they don’t fight over him anymore, but... it’s still not fun. He probably leaves the house specifically to avoid dealing with their squabbling over the stupidest things.
Impmon with Teenage Takato
Takato seems like he’d be an incredibly stressed teen. There’s no explanation for it, he’s just stressed. Little baby Takato doesn’t deserve it, but alas. Impmon probably comes across him one day as he’s banging his head against his desk, trying to solve some math problem (or just trying to do homework in general), and he stops and is like, “What’s wrong, kid?” and Takato starts word-vomiting about all his extracurriculars and hanging out with Jeri and helping out his parents and Impmon starts inching away like “O.O alrighty then, I’ll, uh- *runs*”
Impmon with Teenage Rika [Ruki]
Rika, naturally, has it all figured out by this point. Renamon still follows her around, but she’s alright with it, so of course Impmon meets up with them too on his daily escapades. He banters with Renamon consistently, to a point where Rika notices, raises an eyebrow, and says, “Should I leave you two alone?” While Impmon starts blushing, Renamon rolls her eyes and starts dragging her away, and Impmon’s left wondering what the hell just happened.
Impmon with Teenage Henry [Jian]
I’m not sure exactly how these two would interact, to be honest. Henry’s always been on the mature side, so I doubt he’d lose that. But knowing Digimon, they have some sort of “unspoken friendship” that goes something like: Impmon sitting on a park bench, scowling; Henry walks up, says “Fighting again?” (referring to Ai and Mako); Impmon grunts; Henry sits down next to him; they sit there in silence.
I really want to add, however, that if Terriermon is also present, the bestest bunny starts incessantly teasing him and Impmon Digivolves to Beelzemon right on the spot. Ultimate grudge match activated.
Impmon with Teenage Kazu and Kenta
Hard pass on these two. Impmon’s not dealing with their card game obsession. (HA! AS IF THEY’D GET OVER IT JUST BECAUSE THEY’RE TEENAGERS!)
Impmon with Teenage Jeri [Juri]
Impmon apologized for Leomon, right? That was a thing that happened? So Jeri most definitely forgave him (which I think she did in-show too) and they’re on good terms. He’s probably calmest around her and tries to find her to make sure she’s doing alright on the days his partners’ fights are especially bad. Just because his day’s not going so well doesn’t mean he wants everybody’s days to be crappy.
He’s definitely like that feral cat that’s only nice to one person, and that person is Jeri. And since she’s moved on from puppets to actual kitties and puppies, she pets him, too.
Impmon with Teenage Suzie [Shaochung]
Probably runs when he sees her. She just radiates “let me hug every cute thing in my path” energy and he’d rather not spend his last moments sputtering for breath. He probably purposely runs to Kazu and Kenta at that point.
Impmon with Teenage Ryo
Ryo’s a little bastard to Impmon and there’s absolutely no explanation for it. Impmon just gets pissed with every interaction. Then again, this is the guy who held his own against Rika’s sass when they were barely pre-teens, so maybe that’s how. He’s actually just trying to make Impmon feel better by distracting him, but he most certainly doesn’t admit this. Rika definitely gives him hell for it, though.
I would like to point out, though, that Impmon doesn’t Digivolve to Beelzemon quite so fast when Ryo’s the one teasing him. They’re warming up to each other.
-----
Hm, I’m not quite sure if this is what you were looking for, but I hope this works for you! Like I said, it’s been a while, but hopefully my grasp on the Tamers cast isn’t quite so weak as I think it is.
Once again, thank you for stopping by! If the person who asked you about this happens to see this, I hope you liked it as well!
[fanfic] First Lessons
Guilmon tilted his head to one side then the other, watching as his Tamer dug into the ground. He blinked a few times, trying to figure out what the human was doing and not really being all that successful at it. So he did what anyone would do – he asked a question.
“What’re you doing?” He could see that Takato dug and he’d touched some of what grew out of the ground and clipped a little bit here and there. It didn’t make any real sense to him, but Takato seemed to enjoy it. Maybe it was a human thing?
Takato glanced over at him. “I’m gardening. This is my Garden here.” He gestured with the hand that didn’t have the digging tool in it. “I’ve grown all of this.”
Guilmon looked all around. He wasn’t very good at judging distances, but he got the idea this was a very impressive garden regardless. “Why?”
Takato seemed as confused by the question as Guilmon was by his own actions. “Because I’m a Healer,” he said at last. “Healers have Gardens.” He rubbed the back of his head. “So do Firestarters but theirs are usually mostly rock gardens.”
The Digimon regarded all of the growing plants. He had no names for any of them but he could feel how alive they were, as well as how aware. He wondered if they could talk. Only Takato had ever talked to him.
“What’s a Healer? What’s a Firestarter?” Guilmon asked at last. He knew what most of those other words meant but those two stuck out to him.
Takato tilted his head and rubbed his forehead, leaving a streak of dirt behind. “Well – Healers heal things. Things, people. And we’re connected to the earth.” He touched one of the plants near him, ones that grew low to the ground and were a very pretty purple. At his touch, the flowers opened up even more, and Guilmon could have sworn he heard a cheerful little voice in the back of his head.
“How did you do that? Is that a human ability?” He’d never known humans could do anything like that. Of course, he didn’t know many humans at all. Did humans fight like Digimon did? So many questions!
Takato shook his head then hesitated. “Well, kind of. Like I said, this is something Healers can do. I’m not that strong, not yet. I only Budded last year.” He fidgeted, a faint tinge touching his cheeks. “They say that you get stronger once you bond to your Firestarter.”
“What do they do?” Guilmon thought he could figure out this “Healer” thing now. Healers made flowers bloom. Those were very pretty. Most of the rest of what Takato said had gone over his head.
“Well, they create fires. Or control them. A Healer’s power is balanced by their Firestarter,” Takato said, and it sounded to Guilmon like he’d said that kind of thing a lot. “And the other way around too. A Firestarter’s power balances the Healer. We all need each other.”
Guilmon understood that! “That’s like a Digimon and their Tamer, right?”
“Uh,” Takato shrugged, “I guess. Kind of, anyway.” He brushed his fingers against the purple flowers, which slowly curled back into themselves. “I hadn’t really thought about it.”
Guilmon started to settle down, thinking vague thoughts about bread and if he were hungry or not, when a different thought struck him.
“Takato? Can Digimon be Healers or Firestarters?” He puffed a little smoke through his nostrils. “Because I breathe fire and that’s the same thing, isn’t it?”
Takato started to open his mouth, then closed it again. “I don’t really think so. I mean, when I drew you, I didn’t mean for you to be.”
Guilmon snapped at the air. He was starting to get hungry. It had almost been a whole two hours since he’d eaten. “Why not?”
“I hadn’t really thought about it,” Takato admitted. He came over to Guilmon and settled down next to him. “If I had, I would have done it, though. I bet you would be the best Firestarter ever.”
Guilmon nuzzled against Takato, happy that his Tamer sat close to him. Most of the questions that he had still swirled around in his head, but the important one for the moment had been answered. Maybe this explained why some people smelled different than others.
Ruki had a sort of earthy scent, while Jenrya had a faint whiff of flame and cinders. Terriermon didn’t have either one. Renamon – she was hard to define. Guilmon wasn’t sure if he wanted to get close enough to her to be sure. She hit pretty hard when she wanted to. He wasn’t really sure about Impmon – Impmon always smelled like fire.
He’d noticed other scents like that as well on some of the humans that they’d crossed paths with. Those didn’t smell like Digimon but they didn’t smell like most other people either. Now he knew. Guilmon yawned, then nudged at Takato.
“Hungry,” he declared, rising to his feet and nudging his partner. “Really hungry, Takato!”
Takato laughed. “You might not be a Firestarter, but you've got the appetite of one anyway! Come on! I’ll get you some spare bread.”
He jumped to his feet, brushed himself of, put away the tools he’d been working with, and turned back to Guilmon, one finger raised. “You be careful. We don’t want Mom and Dad to see you, remember?”
Guilmon remembered. He didn’t know why but he still tried his best to stay out of sight – he just wasn’t very good at it. But for the sake of bread, he would keep on trying. He hurried along after Takato, more questions tumbling around in his mind. He would have asked all of them, if he weren’t so hungry that he wanted bread above all else. Maybe once he’d eaten.
And maybe once he’d had a good nap.
The End Notes: Guilmon has so much to learn. And yes, Impmon is a Firestarter.
Chapter 40 - Show ‘Em How It’s Done is out now on FanFiction.Net and ArchiveOfOurOwn! Check them out with the links or find it after the break!
Title: The Tamer v2.0 - In HIs Name
Fandom: Digimon
Rating: T
Synopsis: In the next adventure of the Digimon Tamer, the lives of Juri, Rika, and Henry change forever when digimon begin crossing over into the human world. But it’s all just a story, right? Just a book series by an author no one has seen in a long time. Why are they here and can they save their world before something worse follows the digimon?
Zhenyu Lee looked to the Metropolitan Building, holding Xiaochun in his lap as she played with Lopmon who didn’t even try pretending to be a doll. He should’ve expected this mess would’ve gotten worse before it got better. He just wished it would’ve waited a few more days than it had. Henry ran out to help with Terriermon at the first chance - thankfully Xiaochun and Lopmon were convinced against going with them. Now, however, he couldn’t help but wonder if it would’ve been better to let them go.
Then at least they wouldn’t be heading into the Metropolitan Building under heavily armed guard. No sooner after he called his office, Yamaki’s agents came knocking on his door and forced them out into a white SUV waiting in front of the complex. And despite all the traffic and road blocks, the SUV made its way on to the sidewalk without concern for public safety. Was it because the agency was so far above public scrutiny? Or was it because the situation was now that desperate. He wasn’t sure which it was - and that made him all the more anxious.
As they drove past the entrance, he notice the lobby floor was crowded with people who’d taken refuge inside. It would’ve caused a scene to go in that way - so where they were going? The SUV they were in wheeled around the back where several more guards greeted them - some of whom looked like military and out of place with the rest of the guards wearing black suits.
There were other SUVs already there - unloading other families he didn’t recognize until he saw the kids: Kenta and Kazu. The two boys who’d been spending time around Henry as of late. And then there were the Matsuda parents, who definitely didn’t want to be there. Actually, why were they here?
Their son was dead and wasn’t coming back. The last thing they probably wanted was to have anything to do with all this mess. Of course, he got confirmation of that when the father threw a punch as hard as he could at one of the agents - which ended with the others tackling him to the ground and piling on top of him to keep him restrained.
After a moment of struggling, the agents wrestled him back up to his feet and slapped a pair of handcuffs on him as he swore up a storm, “You fucking assholes! Let me go! Let me fucking go! Right the fuck now!”
“Whoa, check it out Kenta! Takato’s dad is going nuts,” Kazu pointed him out.
“Hey! Watch your language! There are kids present,” one of the dad’s said - one who didn’t appear to have any familiar children with him. He was wrapping his hands around the ears of a small boy in the arms of a woman who was definitely his wife. The woman looked around nervously, “I don’t understand. What is all this? Who are you people and why are we here? We haven’t done anything wrong!”
“Ma’am, it’s a matter of national security. We’ll explain more once we’re safely inside. Please, this way,” one of the agents gestured towards a door guarded by two armed soldiers. Zhenyu had an idea of where they were going but wasn’t sure why they needed to take the back entrance - at least until he saw the robot and the floating pink seal thing. Both definitely digimon. At this point, it was obvious who wasn’t quite familiar with digimon right now. Those who weren’t were uneasy or keeping their hands on their weapons. The ones who were used to the sight of digimon didn’t even seem to register that they were there.
They followed the guard inside who led them to a large service elevator that took their group upstairs - past the administrative offices and into the secure area where the Hypnos Program had been operating. Once the elevator doors slid open, the agent released Mister Matsuda’s handcuffs and gestured for them to continue straight ahead into the main room. Matsuda cursed him out but did as he was told - heading straight into the main office where most of the rest of the Monster Makers and the so called digidestined were present.
And for some reason, the fake Takato or Tamer or whatever his name was drawing on the wall with a marker while concluding what must’ve been a long drawn out lecture. Just by a quick glance of the scribbles, he could only assume it had something to do with that other worlds thing he talked about before, “And that’s basically everything up to now. Any questions?”
Several hands shot up into the air and he sighed, “That aren’t about the multiple worlds and realities.”
Only Yamaki’s hand stayed in the air and he asked, “When are you going to stop drawing on my walls?”
“Sorry,” he dropped the marker and scratched the back of his head, “I just figured that a visual aid would help. My mistake.”
“I don’t know why you can’t explain anything without drawing all over walls anyway,” Yamaki picked up the marker and examined it closely, “This is permanent marker!”
The fake Takato apologized again but it didn’t do anything to improve Yamaki’s mood as he threw the marker into a trash bin in a fit of anger, “Dammit, kid. You’re going to give me a freaking aneurysm.”
Tamerkato looked back at the rest of the group and asked, “Okay, anyone else have any other questions?”
That was when Zhenyu noticed several other digimon in the room - a lot of them. He wasn’t surprised to see this but his family-
“AAAH!”
“Whoa cool! There’s more of them! Look Lopmon! More friends for you! And some of them are so cute! But not as cute as you Lopmon! You’re the best! Ooh, one of them is a little birdie!”
“Holy shit! Where do they keep coming from?”
“You’re going to feed us to them, aren’t you?”
“Geez, you humans sure do a lot of screaming,” Terriermon said from somewhere in the crowd, “Hey! Henry! Your dad’s here!”
He should’ve expected his son to end up here - of course Yamaki was going to get everyone he could in an emergency situation like this. Hell, Henry probably only made it down the block before he got picked up. Henry tried jumping to see over the adults and finally ran out of the crowd before seeing the. And the biggest smile appeared on his face, “Dad, you’re alright!”
Then his smile turned to a frown, “What are all you guys doing here?”
“What are we doing here? Henry, what are you doing here of all places?” his wife asked, “What is all this?”
“This…this is what we’ve been all been working on,” Zhenyu explained to his wife, “It’s how we got Xiaochun and the others back safely from the Digital World.”
The explanation didn’t do him any favors, as she was obviously annoyed with the whole thing. Trying to avert her attention to something else, he instead asked, “What I want to know is why are we here?”
Yamaki massaged his temple, “All important persons needed to be on deck - since some of the important persons were minors, it was decided their families should be brought too to mitigate any child labor laws and blah blah blah. -”
Mister Matsuda cut him off and roared, “Families? We are not families! That thing-”
He gestured at Tamerkato angrily and added, “-isn’t my son. He’s one of those things-”
He pointed at the digimon, “-wearing his face!”
“They can do that?” his wife asked.
The panic quickly spread to the other parents who were now weary of the children, “Wait, so are these kids even our kids or-”
“Alright, enough,” the not-Takato stamped his foot angrily, “I’m sorry. Your son is gone. I can’t fix that.  Believe me, this is as awkward and painful for me as it is for you. But we don’t have time for this! I’m trying to-”
“I don’t care what you want or what you’re trying to do. What I want is to get the hell out of this city before that thing kills us all!” Mister Matsuda roared again, turning to leave. Two of the agents tried to stop him but blocking his exit only seemed to make him angrier. Thankfully he didn’t try throwing any punches this time since these agents had no reservations about keeping their hands on their guns. It also helped that his wife was trying to calm him down.
“Actually, I’d like to know why we’re here too,” another of the adults finally spoke - a woman wearing a kimono asked. She seemed really out of place here, especially holding a toddler in her arms who excitedly oohed at all the digimon present and kept reaching for them to play with. The woman held the boy closer and asked, “We don’t know any of you people and we were out looking for our daughter Juri before any of this happened. Where is she and what does she have to do with any of this?”
“Yeah, I’d like an answer to that as well,” the man beside this woman asked, obviously the husband. The school teacher came forward, “Your daughter is part of the problem. It’s a long story and we don’t have time to explain it all. The short version is she’s in that thing and we’re trying to come up with a plan to stop it that doesn’t involve killing her.”
“What do you mean she’s in that thing!?” the man demanded, “How can my daughter be in that!? I know she’s involved in all this but what the hell does this have to do-”
“Her partner died in the Digital World. That trauma, that loss, became the catalyst for that thing to take over her body. Her spirit. It’s possessing her, riding her like a costume while it goes around to continue its mission of learning, becoming stronger, and destroying anything it deems too strong,” Not-Takato explained to him.
The man didn’t seem to buy any of this and crosses his arms angrily, “Bullshit, I’ve heard a lot of crap over the last few days and I’ll be damned if I’m going to believe any of that. Juri’s strong.”
“Apparently not as strong as you’d like to think,” he fired back.
“How dare-”
“Look, believe it or not, your daughter is in there and she needs saving,” not-Takato interrupted angrily. A pause followed as one of the digimon, a horned lizard wearing a pelt raised its hand to ask, “So how are we going to separate the Digital Worlds and make sure only the digimon are on the...whatever one.”
Not-Takato’s face turned grim as he answered, “I’ll need to go back to the Bastion and fire up some Guardian tech-”
“Ancient tech,” the detective interrupted. Not-Takato sighed, “Same thing. It’s going to use the data from the Natural Digital World to separate the two worlds and pull them apart. But to make sure we get the digimon, I need help scanning the entire Digital World in as short amount of time as possible.”
“Perfect plan. It’s a good thing you’ve got us!” the detective said, raising up his digivice and his work partner. A pause followed before he turned to the others, “What about you, mister noodle chef?”
A man wearing an apron uncrossed his arms and smiled wide, ““Yeah, I’m game for this. How about you, Veemon?”
“Alwaysh! I’ve been raring to get back into the action!” a little blue dinosaur with horns shouted. Both men excitedly fist bumped as the cook declared, “Alright! Ken and Davis are back in action. What do we need to do?”
“Wait, Ken?” Ryo stammered in disbelief, approaching the detective with wide eyed shock, “Ken?”
Not-Takato snapped his fingers and hurried over to one of the computers, “We’ll need technology from the Bastion - it’ll do a scan of the Digital World for all digimon. Artificial and Natural. No one’s going to die on my watch. We use the archive of…wait, where’s Izzy’s laptop? We need that. It has the database of the Digital World on it which I can use to help pull apart the two Digital Worlds.”
“Still no idea,” Yamaki said, “It could be a while before we find them.”
“Well, no more time for discretion,” Not-Takato turned to Rika, “How do you feel about finding your parents?”
“Can do,” she gave a thumbs up. His smiles widened, “You’re a life saver Rika. Find them and bring them here.”
Daisy clapped her hands together excitedly and hurried over to her computer, “This is getting kind of exciting! Well, if you guys are going to the Digital World, it only makes sense to do some reconnaissance first. Make sure things are safe! The last thing you guys need is to land in a mess. Let’s see if the Ark can handle some updates and attach a camera program to it.”
“Ark? It seems like you’ve all been quite busy while I’ve been away. I’d like to see what you all have created without me,” a familiar voice said excitedly. Then Shibumi appeared, half balding with a mullet growing from what remained of his hair and a bushy beard growing on his face. He was certain this man was dead after being gone for so long but here he was - alive and acting like he hadn’t been missing for the last few years. Zhenyu was so taken aback by this that he couldn’t help but blurt out, “SHIBUMI!?”
The man stopped in his tracks and waved at him with a stupid half grin, “Oh, hello Tao. You’re graying now.”
So much for a friendly greeting, “And you’re balding.”
Henry covered his face to hide his embarrassment upon hearing his dad’s nickname. Was that always his dad’s name? He had no idea he even had a nickname - especially not one that sounded so pretentious. He needed to get his mind off this conversation and looked back at Tamerkato, “So you’re going to the Digital World...worlds to rip them apart. What about the rest of us here? Because we’re not just going to be sitting around and fighting that thing didn’t exactly do us any good in the Digital World or here.”
“Actually, fighting is exactly what I need you guys to do,” Tamerkato adder with a snap of his fingers. This angered Monodramon who promptly snapped, “He said we just tried that! It didn’t work! What part of that were you not listening to?”
“The part where you guys weren’t listening to me. You’re not attacking it to defeat it, you’re attacking it to get its attention off the Digital World,” Tamerkato explained to them. Henry was confused now and was sure this was the rampant insanity the others were so wear of, “It’s not in the Digital World. It’s here.”
Tamerkato nodded in agreement, “You’re right. It is here. And there. It’s…complicated. Part of its consciousness is here in the Human World. The other part of its conscious is in the Digital World. It may be smart but it can only pay attention to so many things happening at once. If you make enough noise here in this world, it’ll pull it’s attention away from the Digital World.”
“But wouldn’t all the fighting in the Digital World already do that?” Renamon asked, “We left the Digital World just as it turned into a war zone!”
“That’s right! The Digital World was a battlefield!” Gatomon called out with a pointed claw. Tamerkato held up two fingers, “That’s the other advantage. If it’s busy paying attention over here, it’ll give the digimon on the other side a better fighting chance. The mission here is to save as many lives as we can until the plan is ready to act out.”
“Okay, but there are two other parts of this plan we still haven’t figured out. How do we stop the D-Reaper here in this world? It’s not like turning off that computer will stop it here,” Yamaki said matter of factly. Tamerkato gestured at the building around, “I thought that part of the plan was obvious? You guys built a weapon that targets Digital Life! Specifically, it sucks Digital Life back into the Digital World. Once the worlds are separated, we put our digimon back into the Natural Digital World. Then fire the weapon to send the D-Reaper back to the Artificial World. Once it’s off, we turn this-”
“Um, guys,” Daisy called to get their attention, waving her hand in the air, “Either my camera program is messed up or the situation in the Digital World is a lot more chaotic than I realized.”
She turned the monitor around to face them and showed them the screen. The sight was something to behold - not in grand awe but in terror. The Digital World they had left just the day before had become a fiery hell scape - barren wastes burning to ash while countless digimon battled for their lives against a growing tide of red with no end in sight. Everyone crowded around the monitor so Daisy presses a few more keys to get it on multiple monitors. Despite that, it was obvious to everyone what was on the screen.
The digimon that could be made out on the small screen appeared to be retreating away from the mass as they threw everything they had at it. Some even made a run for the ship, pleading into the camera for some kind of help before being pulled back into the fight by another digimon. Patamon gasped, “The Digital World did NOT look like that when we left.”
“Time’s been moving differently between the worlds. A couple of hours out here turned into weeks in there,” Sora explained quietly, “Remember, you guys were only gone for about a day our time.”
At that announcement, Gatomon became furious, “Days passed in the Digital World already? We need to go back! We need to-”
“We already have a plan remember?” Tamer interrupted her quickly, snapping his fingers at the remaining digimon whose partners weren’t present, “Which brings up another thing. You guys are going to need to find your partners if you’re going to be of help. Soon as we get out there, the better.”
“We’ll make sure they get to ‘em,” Rika said with a hand on her hips as she moved towards Palmon and Tentomon, “Mom and dad are going to freak out when they see you guys.”
“I bet I’ll freak out more! Oh, I can’t wait to see Izzy again!” Tentomon remarked. It was hard to miss the nervous look on Rika’s face as it seemed she didn’t quite have the heart to tell the digimon about what had happened to his partner. And he was sure it was not going to be a fun conversation.
“Wait a second...mom and dad?” Palmon repeated. That was another subject she wasn’t sure she was ready for. Trying to take her mind off the subject, Rika took out her D-Terminal and started typing into it, “I’m going to message them now to see where they are. Then we’ll take you.”
“Then we’ll head to the Digital World once the attack begins,” Tamerkato stated, “As soon as its attention is pulled, we can head on our way.”
“You’re forgetting the other part of this plan of yours,” Yamaki interrupted again before gesturing at Juri’s parents, “How are you going to save the girl? You said no one else is going to die, right? Well how does that figure into your plan?”
Tamerkato frowned, “Still working that part out. I’m thinking this up by the seat of my pants.”
“That’s...that’s now how the saying goes,” Yamaki groaned. Juri’s father added, “You’re telling me you don’t even have a plan to save my daughter!?”
“Thirty minutes ago, I didn’t have a plan to save either of these miserable rocks! Give it time. I’ll come up with something.” Tamerkato interjected with a smile. Unfortunately, Yamaki didn’t share his optimism, “I seriously doubt we have thirty minutes.”
Mimi rolled her husband’s chair down the busy street as quickly as she could, but everything was in chaos. Stopped cars blocked most major intersections, abandoned by their drivers in terror of the flocks of bird creatures blocking out the sky overhead. People ran in terror every way they could, with police and military trying their best to maintain order while shooting into the sky at the bird creatures swarming the city. And now of all times, her husband decided to start playing with his D-Terminal, “Honey! What the hell? That isn’t the time for that!”
“It’s Ruki! She’s says she’s on her way and wants to know where we are!” he answered, looking up from the screen long enough to take in his surroundings, “Let’s see. This looks like...gah, I don’t even recognize what ward we’re in. Where are we?”
Mimi couldn’t believe his forgetfulness but tried to remind herself of his missing leg. He was very medicated and probably was only half aware of everything going on, “Are you kidding? Honey, we’re on Meiji-Dori Avenue and Shinjuku-Dori Avenue! We’re right in front of the police station!”
“Oh, right!” he said as he started typing on the device. She heard a beep which meant Ruki replied but she couldn't focus on that now. She had to find their way to the Metropolitan Building. But that was easier said than done at this point. The whole city had become an obstacle course with all the people, cars, and debris obstructing their path. And there was no way her husband would be get around most of it in his wheelchair. This was just like when they were kids, only now they didn’t have their partners with them. Worse was knowing that their only daughter was running around out there in the middle of all this. Then she had a realization, “Wait, did you say...Ruki’s on her way?”
He nodded and gave a frown, “Yeah, with a surprise. I have no idea what that means. I’m hoping her rebellious streak isn’t going to appear as some kind of half thought out rescue attempt! We really need to do something about that.”
“She only acts out because you disappeared!” she pointed out to her husband.
“Hey! That only happened because I was forcibly taken against my will!” he argued back, pausing as he took a look around, “This is bad. We should get off the street and get out of here before-”
He was cut off mid sentence as one of the bird creatures stopped in front of them. It was horrifying to have to look at one so close in front of them like this. Mimi had never seen one so up close and wasn’t sure what to think of it being so close in front of her. At least, that was what she thought until she realized its eyes weren’t eyes at all. It was some kind of gross facsimile - like eyes were a thing it had only ever heard of before. It’s true eyes were on its wings - big yellow orbs that did something akin to a blink as its pupils darted every which way. Then it spoke with a mechanical rasp like knives digging into sheet metal, “Image data sent. Resuming search!”
“Search for this!”
Kyubimon descended from a rooftop and landed atop the creature. It barely reacted to being slammed into the ground, almost like it didn’t even know it had been hit. Instead it tried to maneuver its wings to look at her in vain as Kyubimon swiped into its eyes with her claws until it burst into data, “Finally. We killed one. These things shouldn’t be as hard to kill as they are. Are you both alright?”
“Yes, we’re fine. Where’s Ruki?” he asked in a panicked tone, “We thought she was with you.”
Kyubimon turned her head behind her, looking towards Rika running towards them with a cactus in her arms and a large ladybug fluttering behind...Palmon and Tentomon. Palmon complained, “How much further? I want to see Mimi!”
“She’s over there,” Rika said, gesturing towards her mother, “And there’s dad too.”
“Dad?” Tentomon paused, taking one good look at Koushiro in the wheel chair with his missing leg, “IZZY!?”
“Tentomon!” Izzy called out in amazement, reaching out his arms so that his bug partner digimon could land in them. Mimi stepped aside as Palmon leapt into her own arms, “Mimi! Is it really you!? You’re a lot taller than I remember. And a lot prettier too!”
“Ruki, is this?” She began to ask.
“You bet.”
“This is the best surprise you could’ve given us,” Mimi said tearfully, holding her partner close. She’d dreamt of seeing her partner again for so long that she wasn’t sure it would ever actually happen. And here she was - in her arms. She was so happy she could feel herself getting ready to cry. Tentomon and Izzy were having their own moment too, mostly with Tentomon demanding to know why his leg was missing and what exactly had happened while they were away.
Rika put a hand to her hips, “Well, I figured if anyone was going to bring your partners to you, it should be me. You’re welcome, mom. Dad.”
“There it is again! Why do you keep calling her mom?” Palmon repeated.
“Wait a second. Dad?” Tentomon did the same. Both digimon pulled away from their partners in surprise. Then Palmon blurted out, “Mimi, is she-”
“That’s right,” Mimi beamed proudly, looking over to her daughter with the biggest smile on her face. Koushiro turned his partner around to face their daughter, “Palmon. Tentomon. Meet our daughter. Ruki.”
Both digimon had mouths wide open in a shock and surprise. Rika was sure they were just trying to take everything in until eventually Palmon gasped, “GOSH! DOES THIS MEAN YOU TWO GOT MARRIED!? WITHOUT INVITING US!?”
“Well, we didn’t know where you guys were at the time,” Koushiro offered defensively as their two digimon became increasingly agitated over the fact that they missed out on one of the most important times in their partner’s lives. Made all the worse by the knowing that they weren’t even aware it happened. Rika whistled to get their attention and pointed out, “Not to ruin the moment guys but we still have a city to save. Well, a city and a world. We can talk about all this later.”
“I don’t understand though, how did this happen?” she asked their daughter. Rika was already busy taking a hold of her father’s wheel chair and pushing him off the main road into a side street, “It’s a long story and it involves goggle head. Like a lot of goggle head. He has a plan though-”
“Oh hell no, last time his plans got my mom, your grandmother, killed!” Mimi snapped angrily, gasping when she realized she’d just said that in front of her daughter. Ruki waved her hands up in agreement, “Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like his plans or ideas any more than you do but we know the whole plan so there’s no surprises. At least, no surprises we won’t expect.”
“Oh, and what’s that?” her husband asked with a tone that indicated scholarly curiosity. She knew that tone too well to know they were n for a long question and answer session. Rika shrugged, “First, we need to get you back to the others at that government place. They need you to fix that juggernaut program.”
“NO! I will not work on that again,” he abruptly refused. It wasn’t hard to understand why - he hated that project and all it did to him. And knowing what it did to digimon made her hate it as well. And using it was a part of Tamer’s plan? To hell with that. Even so, Rika tried to explain, “Look, the others will tell you more when you get there. Something about how that weapon is the only thing that’ll work on that thing!”
She gestured at the growing red mass in the center of the city. There was no doubt about its size but the fact that using Juggernaut was their only option made them uneasy. And if Tamer was involved, “What exactly is his plan?”
“It was a lot of technobabble but it sounds like he wants to split the Digital World and turn it off? Look, I kinda spaced out on it,” Rika admitted to them. There was Rika reflecting her mother. It seemed they had other things in common besides disliking Tamer. Rika looked at their partners for some kind of help and Palmon answered, “Well don’t look at me. I can never follow the stuff he’s saying. Guy talks a mile a minute.”
Her husband sighed, “At least you’re honest about it.”
He turned his wheelchair to face her, “I’m going to stop them from fixing the Juggernaut, even if it means I have to destroy the computer myself.”
He sounded so sad when he said that. She knew he loved computers almost as much as he loved her - and the idea of destroying one probably went against everything he stood for. Especially one he helped to build. Kyubimon sighed, “To fill in the gaps that Rika left out - Tamer’s planning on splitting the two Digital Worlds so that all the digimon occupy one world and that thing occupies the other. Then we use the Juggernaut to send that thing from this world to the other Digital World. To do that we-”
Kyubimon stopped mid sentenced, staring straight at her. Mimi took a step back, “What?”
“It heard me,” she replied. What? Mimi turned around to see one of the bird creatures standing there staring at them. She practically jumped backwards in surprise, wondering just how long that thing had been standing there and how much of that it had heard. It registered that they were now staring at it and ascended skyward to get away.
Mimi cursed, “Crap.”
“Well that complicates things,” her husband added quietly, turning his wheelchair again, “We need to go to the tower.”
“What, why?” Palmon asked, “I thought we were supposed to distract that thing?”
“Don’t you get it, Palmon? It knows! If it knows, it’s going to protect itself. It’s going to attack the tower now!” Tentomon pointed out, “And everyone is still up there!”
“Oh…oh no! All those people! Sora! Biyomon! They’re all up there!” Palmon gasped. Rika cursed her luck, “Do you have your digivices?”
“Always,” the parents said together; she reached into her coat pocket to hold up her digivice and her husband reached into the bag on his wheelchair to show his. Rika smiled and Mimi understood why. What they had here was a rare opportunity for a family bonding activity. It may not have been the typical family bonding experience that most people wanted - but there was no denying that having this in common was nice.
Rika nodded, “Okay...and Tamer also said we need your laptop. Do you have it?”
“Laptop?” Koushiro repeated quietly, “Oh, yes. I know which laptop. And yes. I always have it.”
He reached into his backpack and produced an old yellow laptop with a pineapple insignia on the back. The one he’d had from their first trip to the Digital World. The one thing she was never able to convince him to let go of. It seemed he was right to always hang on to it. There was a noise in the distance that caught their attention and they looked towards its source at the Shinjuku Towers. The bird creatures were now converging on the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. And they were the only ones who knew why. Rika produced a blue card from her deck and Koushiro held out his digivice to his partner, “Like old times, right honey?”
“Let’s show our daughter how it’s done,” she said in agreement. Both of their partners jumped to their feet excitedly, “Oh! We missed this!”
“Tentomon! Warp Digivolve to! HerculesKabuterimon!”
“Palmon! Warp Digivolve to! Rosemon!”
Mimi noticed her daughter’s mouth falling wide open in surprise at their forms, “Whoa! When did you guys get to have Mega level digivolutions?”
For once, she was doing something her daughter was interested in. She tussled the girl’s hair and added, “Takeru didn’t publish all of our adventures, y’know? Remind us to tell you about it some time.”
“Then let me show you what we can do,” Rika said, raising her digivice and swiping a strange blue card from her deck through it, “Digimodify! Digivolution Activate!”
Light enveloped her partner and Mimi watched in astonishment as Kyubimon began to digivolve. Digivolution at will through a card game.
“Kyubimon! Digivolve to! Taomon!”
The look on her husband’s face was priceless. He stammered out, “Your partner is...you used a card from the card game to...that is...I have so many questions!”
“Oh boy, Izzy is losing his mind again,” HerculesKabuterimon cackled. Then the people screamed and panicked even louder. The sight of not one, but three new large digimon appear so suddenly sent the already panicked populace into a bigger panic as they fled away. Mimi buried her face in her hands and groaned, “Oh right. We’re out in the city.”
“We should go. All of us,” Taomon stated matter of factly, scooping up Rika in her arms, “Hang on Rika.”
“You’re right! Let’s go to that tower!” Rosemon agreed. HerculesKabuterimon took up Mimi in one hand and Izzy in the other, using a third to hold his wheel chair. With a loud buzz, his wings took them to the air and they were off with Rosemon and Taomon following close behind. It was just like old times. HerculesKabuterimon used his large frame to protect them from the many bird creatures and the soldiers shooting at them from below. Meanwhile, Rosemon cleared a path forward through the cloud of bird creatures using her whip and guided them safely through the horde. At least she did until she realized the bird creatures weren’t trying to stop them. They were actually trying to make their way to the tower to attack - at which point she turned around and started thinning their numbers to stop as many of them as she could.
“Rosemon!” Mimi called out in awe of her partner’s decision.
“I need to hold them back!” Rosemon shouted.
“Save your strength! This is marathon, not a race,” Taomon declared, flicking out a slip of paper from her hands and throwing them, “Thousand Spells!”
The talisman split into a thousand pieces of paper that flew in every direction, exploding on impact with any of the bird creatures that were following close behind. Then she retrieved her brush with that same hand and drew a symbol in the air, “Talisman Spell!”
The symbol expanded in size until it formed a barrier in the shape of the yin-yang symbol - stopping the creatures in their tracks as they slammed into it like birds into a glass window pane. With their path clear, they continued onward towards the roof of the towers as bird creatures from around the city began to converge on their location.
Once they were set on the roof, Mimi grabbed a hold of her husband’s wheelchair and said, “We’ll head straight to the others and warn them.”
“Okay, we’ll stay out here and hold the rest of them back!” Rika said in agreement, looking back to the three digimon. Mimi couldn’t help but feel aglow with pride as her daughter gave her a thumbs up. She cheered, “Rosemon, show her how it’s done!”
“We’ve got this Mimi,” Rosemon said, leading the digimon as she looked back to the growing crowd of alien bird creatures. She didn’t wait a second longer. She pushed her husband and hurried her way into the building. As soon as they were inside though, Mimi realize the foolishness of her plan once she gazed at the many stairs that led down. Koushiro looked back at his wife, “Are you sure you want to do this?”
“You must be stupid if you think I’m letting you out of my sight again, Mister Izumi,” Mimi laughed, turning his wheelchair around so that she could guide him down. She took the first step backwards, taking care to pull her husband’s chair so that he didn’t slip or fall out. It took them a good minute to clear the first flight and get to the first landing. That was one down. Who knows how many more to go?
Continuing where we left off here, so we’re not cluttering Sarah’s pretty art (bless u @yunisverse ), did you know canonically Digimon are emotion eaters? “But Lea!”, you say. “That was in SAVERS, not Adventure!” Wasn’t it though?
Think about it-- while they’re not necessarily feeding off it in the sense of sustenance, the digimon in Adventure all digivolve during a big influx of some form of emotion by their chosen child, usually related to the crest but not always (pants-shitting terror at Kuwagamon, for example). Normal, natural digivolution is usually a very long process of gathering energy and strength, with higher levels often taking decades if not hundreds or thousands of years (unless you suck, in which case you’re turning into a Numemon. Yes, that’s also canon.), so obviously the digimon MUST be feeding on something for those short bursts of energy, and since having the digimon feast upon their attached digidestined’s soul or lifespan is what we call bad, the natural source must be emotion. Following that thread, we see other digidestined in 02 (which I’m not going to go into for most of the lore it introduced because it is One Whole Yike, but Adventure itself introduced the concept that all you had to do to be a valid partner candidate is see a digimon and therefore this is valid) who ostensibly have the same bond as our actual Destiny’s Children without the Destiny bit, and we actively see Willis/Wallace/That Kid With The Two Bunny Digimon have his digimon digivolve. While Lopmon/Kokomon was out of his control for the most part and could arguably have been severed from the connection, Terriermon clearly wasn’t and also usually responded to emotion. As such, we can assume that this is a trait of all partner digivolutions. Why, then, are the Crests needed? Well, we find out they’re a bit of a magic feather, however they all still involve an emotion or state of being which the child exemplifies (besides Light, though that could be as in “the light in your heart that never goes out” IE Determination and Light just happened to sound more mystic and was also literally its attribute anyway, like how Honesty/Responsibility is Water and Sincerity/Purity is Plants) (Knowledge also isn’t a state of being or emotion, but the way they use the word I’m reasonably certain what they actually mean is WISDOM, which means Izzy in a state of being wise is what triggers it, not just him being a nerd). I would like to suggest, thusly, that the Crests show the emotion or mental state the digidestined represented by it has in abundance and thus what their digimon use to rocket up the digivolution ladder in ways faster and stronger than even normal human/digimon partnerships. The Crest associated with our hypothetical ninth duo? Kindness. Now, stay with me here. Allow my work-weary, sleep-deprived ass to switch from essay to narrative for a moment. Consider, if you will; Wizardmon has always been alone. Since he’s a chosen partner, Gennai dropped him when he was hit much like Gatomon, but velocity and angle meant he still hatched far away from her. He turned to magic for answers as to why he was left all alone when most are born and cared for in Primary Village, and he got good of it-- amazingly good, astoundingly good, impossibly wonderously G O O D  at magic-- but he never found his answers. Eventually, he gives up, assuming he was simply not worth the effort. That perhaps, his presence was a mistake. He wanders, looking for obscure magic but no longer having any purpose to it, aching for something he doesn’t understand nor believes exist. He says he passed through unremarked, but in many places you’ll hear tell of a quiet, soft-spoken digimon who repaired something with the snap of his fingers. Sometimes a wall, sometimes reviving a well, sometimes even bringing another digimon back from a hideous illness. But he was always gone the next day. If anyone could ask him, he’d shrug it off; it wasn’t something special, he thought. It just seemed cruel to leave things as they were, and while he’s many unpleasant things, he’d like to think he’s not cruel. (He is kind, he is so kind, but he can’t fathom it without anyone else around him, and no one nor place can hold him against that unknown longing in his programming, so it passes by him without note.) Of course, between his idle wandering and his constantly giving and giving and giving of his magical energy without much time to recover, he eventually pushes himself past exhaustion and falls out of the sky on one otherwise unremarkable day.  Those of you who’ve watched Adventure, of course, should recognize this as the event that caused him to meet Gatomon, and remember how absolutely baffled he was by her kindness-- he was already spreading himself thin, but he never had it returned to him mostly because he never stayed anywhere long enough for it-- and how fast he was to pledge undying loyalty for said shred of kindness. And this is true still, for he is still almost desperately loyal to her, but there is something else. Even when she truly forgets everything for the monster (ha) Myotismon turned her into, he can still see that longing for something she doesn’t know or understand in her eyes, and something in his chest tightens a little. It’s kinship, but he doesn’t recognize it-- he doesn’t have time, given how fast he parses the legends and figures out what she must be, as when he does that he out of hand assumes he could never be associated. Even so, they lessen eachother’s loneliness, and for a while that’s enough. Wizardmon does his best to play dumb, glide beneath the safety of contempt, and manages some tiny victories against the Dark Army’s, as after all he is never on Myotismon’s side. Some in-training digimon slipping out of the dungeon here, some misinformation there. In the end, however, he is mostly trying to give Gatomon the shot at a better life he is so certain she deserves, so every so often he has to get his hands dirty. It’s okay, though, really. It doesn’t matter what becomes of him, as long as she gets out. (Even so, when he’s forced to play evil minion to the hilt he tries his best to simply confuse or trick his target so he can leave them alive and unharmed, and if he can’t he does his damndest to make it quick. To do otherwise seems cruel, and he would still like to think he isn’t that at least.) As we all know, eventually seven dumbass kids with seven dumbass digimon who happen to also be the Digidestined turn up and Myotismon sets his plan in motion. Most of his minions just terrorize the town, but as ever Wizardmon is sneaky. He keeps his head down, and blends in, drawing children in and keeping an eye on Gatomon to see where and who she is most drawn to. He is being rather underhanded, he thinks, even though getting this gaggle of human children to watch in wonder and laugh isn’t actually necessary for his guise. He refuses to do otherwise, though. It doesn’t seem right. Naturally, Gatomon narrows what child is hers down without even realizing, but his own “patrol” draws in her and there is an almost uncomfortable snap in him as for a moment that ache, that eternal lonliness, is gone and-- no no, she just caught him flatfooted. He’s distracted and wasn’t expecting a compliment, particularly not one from someone clearly much older than the younglings he’s entertaining manipulating. The Tokyo arc is the same, but extended-- more red herrings and more time to convince Gatomon to remember that she is better than Myotismon’s lapcat, as well as scenes with Wizardmon and Minnie showing them drawing closer, albeit with Wizardmon’s denial or deflection on the subject pretty much even through his almost-death. Ah, yes. You didn’t think we kept most of that scene, did you? Of course Wizardmon gives his life for Gatomon-- by this point, it’s all he has left to give. It’s all he’s ever had to give, really. But remember how his body is still present in the show after his suppossed death? Well, that’s because he’s not quite dead yet; merely passed out. Minnie pulls him away and gets him to a relatively safe part of the building before he comes to again. He is defintely in the PROCESS of dying, though, but they refuse to let the kids know. It would be kinder for the kids not to see, at least for the moment, and thus the duo both lie through their teeth. And yet, when the kids leave to talk about what lies ahead next, Minnie turns and does her best to stop the digital hole in his chest from bleeding. He’s going to be fine, she tells him. It’s another lie, he thinks, but ah. “You’re...too kind...” There’s a faint glow from her pocket and for a moment his world is white and then he’s much more alive and terribly small. I’m gonna glaze over the rest of the Tokyo arc because we really need to get to the point in this fucking novel but I really need you to imagine a distressed Mokumon trying to wriggle out of Minnie’s arms as she tries to get him to fucking REST and then later him as a Candlemon accidentally setting the blankets he was tucked into on fire. Got that in your head? Good! Now let’s just--
Tumblr media
There we go, see you in 02 asshole, moving on to the Dark Masters Ahem, anyway, as the group journeys through the reconfigured Digital World to forcibly scrub the influence of the Dark Masters away, Wizardmon slowly becomes a bit less aloof and a bit more on the awkward side. He’s gotten what he wanted-- Gatomon’s happy-- and he has a purpose, but that purpose doesn’t seem like something he should have, nor this group somewhere he should be. Nevermind he doesn’t really know how to handle a group out of his aloofness or various deceptions. And yet, ever so slowly, he begins to warm, and soften. Until that day in the desert. Minnie catches a lone and frightened younger digimon in the corner of her eye and diverts immediately to help it. The children and their partners are on board, of course, but before anyone can move, a Scorpiomon pops up and starts heading right for the young lady. The children shout, but Wizardmon can’t make out the words-- he’s already moving as fast as he can, even as he watches Minnie quickly turn to the younger digimon she found and hide them under a crevice, smiling before she moves away where it can’t see whatever happens. Even as she turns, pale and trying not to look frightened and moving AWAY from the kids a little so as to keep the arachnoid’s attention. Even as one of its legs connects with her cheek and knocks her away. That gentleness she was showing and his outrage and need to protect merges and twists and surges in a fountain of warmth in his chest, and he skids to a stop in front of her. Digivolving feels more like a soft blanket of darkness than anything resembling a change-- he barely even notices his limbs stretching or his clothing shift until it’s over and he’s...he’s... Myotismon. Minnie has the Crest of Kindness and he has turned into what is, objectively, the cruelest digimon to ever exist. Being Adventure the priority is Jokes, thus the immediate asking to tag out, but after this he is even more aloof than he was before, and not looking anyone in the eye. He is crushed, and once again come to the answer he always has for why he is why he is-- if he was ever meant to be here, then something must be wrong with him, and more likely he was never meant to be here at all. How interesting, do you think, it would be that it is not the Digidestined who has the huge, dramatic issue to confront, but the digimon? TL;DR, Don’t Blame You, essentially the jumping point for this whole narrative is, in a subversion to the usual “kid has to accept thing about self to slowly begin to heal from trauma and unlock potential”, essentially WIZARDMON is the one who has to learn here; the two-fold moral that he is allowed to ACCEPT Kindness and not just constantly give, and that the fact he is dark and spooky-- the fact his ultimate is the same as the mon who hurt him and the others-- does not make him less good or kind. And it only took about five novels to get here, amazing. If only I had this much energy for my actual writing.
~~Story Begins~~
Chapter 2 - Kowloon
Arata could’ve stayed by Nokia. He could’ve tried to put the scaredy-cat at ease, but he didn’t. Ami was late and she’s always early. The location also changed when Mr. Navit called them and told them to go to Kowloon instead.
He walked away from Nokia to explore the area he already knows quite well. Thanks to his hobbies. He never used his imitation and prestige before, but he planned on using them for the first time to make sure Ami would walk around safely here. He also wanted clues over Mr. Navit and the so-called ‘Ghost of EDEN’.
No one was around Kowloon.
He tried to call Ami but his calls and messages wouldn’t go through. It was like the signal was being jammed or interfered with.
He felt a whoosh behind him as he walked back to Nokia’s location. He turned his head to look at the source and Ami flew by him. Something didn’t feel right. How could she have gotten the URL?
Nothing was making sense to him today.
He eavesdropped on their conversation a little. Nokia couldn’t help him with his questions last night because she hasn’t met Ami in person. Their science project was done in EDEN as a test for Nokia’s school. Of course, he didn’t expect her to scream as loud as she did or that Ami would notice that someone was watching them as a Digimon Capture was loaded onto their accounts.
~~Digimon~~
“Nu-huh,” Nokia said. “I’m not going. I wanna go home.”
“Nokia,  Arata could be in trouble,” Ami said. “We need to go after him.”
“No way. Hackers are bad news,” she said again. Nokia had her eyes closed so she didn’t see Ami flinched.  “I want nothing to do with them.”
“Fine,” Ami said. “Just stay here and keep yourself hidden. I’ll be back as soon as I find him, okay?”
Ami left Galactic Park and while every instinct in her was telling her to run, she took her time. She walked calmly through Kowloon in order to take in the sights. She found everything to be beautiful and something about Kowloon just drew her in.
It was like she’s been here before somehow.
“Huh?” she said as she saw a glitchy figure appear before her. It teleported to different spaces and got closer to her. She took a shaky step backward. “Hey. Who are you?”
Ami felt all energy escape her and collapsed onto the ground. The last thing she remembers seeing is a young man with black hair and a white coat touch her forehead.
~~Digimon~~
“We need to get out of here,” Arata said as the ‘Data Monster’ moved closer. “I’ll break the lock and you need to log off immediately!”
“Nokia!” Ami said as she held onto her little Terriermon in her arms. “Move!”
“I’m working on the lock as soon as I break it, you need to log out,” Arata said to Ami.
“No. I’m not leaving you or Nokia behind,” Ami said with a shake of her head. “She’s frozen.”
“Ami! Please, Ami,” Arata said. “Please do this  for me.”
“Agumon! Gabumon!” Nokia said as the two Digimon stepped in front of her.
“Not this time, Arata,” Ami said as her Terriermon joined the action.
Nokia logged out and Arata looked at Ami. “She’s out. I’ll go next and you had best be behind me. I don’t want to lose you.”
“On it,” Ami said as she picked her injured Terriermon up and ran for the logout button.
The log out button that she will never be able to use.
The Limited Base shop in PARCO Nagoya is doing Digimon again until October 18th 2017! (This shop seems to have a new incarnation every other month or so haha.)
As always they had items from the previous Digimon theme shops, but new stuff this time included that Agumon travel bath set (which I am so stoked to bring with me the next time I go to Tokyo haha) and those adorable mini-plushies!! (Look at how they put them into my bag ahhhh...) I kinda wanted Gabumon too, but he kinda looked like a fish. My friend and I were curious as to who would sell out first, but since they only started selling them yesterday it was hard to tell. Terriermon actually looked like one of the most popular ones. They made Terriermon and Lopmon just because they are cute I guess! They also made Wizardmon for some reason so I was anticipating seeing Wizardmon in Tri maybe.... (but not.... yet anyway)...
They had a bunch of Appmon stuff last time when it was the anniversary shop, and I was disappointed they didn’t have much this time now that I have actually watched the show! (Since I disliked Xros Wars I just assumed I wouldn’t like it... how wrong I was....) Well, I got the mobile battery with Taichi and Haru on it so I have something! I also got the keychain of Taichi’s crest, which has always been sold out every time before.
NEW VERSE: 🌙 1-UP BOY 🌙
Set within the same world as Mario Odyssey, Wallace is a citizen of the Metro Kingdom. A terrible event from his childhood forced his family to move to The Big Banana, New Donk City. With the arrival of the Broodals, Bowser’s wedding planners, though, Wallace now has taken the first step towards reconciling his mistakes with an adventure that will take him flying to the moon!
MOST of the finagling has been fitting Terriermon into the Mario lore, which wouldn't be THAT hard since there's been plenty of Rabbits across the franchise. Most of those have just been rabbit Anthros tho, like the Broodals from Odyssey and a pair of basketball playing rabbit furries from the Wario land games. I considered making him a Starbunny ala Mario galaxy, but it turns out those are just the animal form of the Lumas? And I don't really want to get Rosalina involved in this so.
 Therefore he's just a regular talking rabbit, born and raised somewhere in the countryside of the Metro kingdom along with his brother Lopmon. They meet and befriend Wallace when they're all pretty damn young and basically adopt each other- the twins' parents are long gone and Wallace is lonely being the only kid his age in their tiny town.
Mario doesn't have any non-sentient forces of pure evil, so I can't adapt Wallace's movie 1:1 BUT. BUT. We do have the Broodals, a rabbit crime gang of sorts who have a shit load of regular earth rabbits in hats running around their base of operations on the moon
(Sidenote: Mario already went to the moon in two seperate games before this, but they put the Broodals on the DARK side of the moon, meaning canon is conveniently preserved, good job nintendo)
they're kids and playing in a field when suddenly BAM UFO (which is what the broodals hats are themed around doncha know cause they're from the moon) comes and tries to abduct the twins, Lopmon gets caught up but terriermon manages to escape
Terrified that actual Aliens are gonna come for their kid next, Wallace's parents fight about kicking Terriermon out, leading to their seperation and divorce and Wallace's BAMF Mom whisks them away to New Donk City. There's nothing they can do for YEARS until suddenly there's all these posters about a wedding between the King of the Dark Kingdom and the Princess of the Mushroom Kingdom and Mario is dashing around with a talking hat, grabbing power moons to fuel their ship and fighting against... Rabbits with UFO hats from the MOON?! (see i kept odyssey canon in this)
Armed with this knowledge, Terriermon and Wallace run away to get a ship of their own, and start looking for Power Moons to juice it up enough to let them fly to the Broodals main base, in the hopes that Lopmon is being held there
It’s Here! Digimon Tri Character Song
So, I just found out that there are Digimon Adventure Tri Character Songs!! I suppose this is old news, since KoD Boku ni Totte (Confession’s ending song) was actually Yamato’s song.
Tumblr media
First reaction: MUST.LISTEN.TO.TAKERU’S. Naturally, since his last song, Focus, was interesting. I can’t interpret this song other than him confessing to Hikari. Weird isn’t it? I tried to relate the lyrics with Patamon and Yamato, but no-no-no it just didn’t match. Anyway, I ended up listening to all of them, and here are my thoughts.
THE TOP THREE Boku ni Totte (Yamato): hands down, the best song for me. The melancholic melody and lyrics are so Yamato. At first I thought this was a romantic song *cough*Sora*cough*, but after hearing Gabumon’s song (Kimi ni Totte), I realize this is for him. And although I haven’t seen all of Gabumon’s lyrics, it makes me think that this song fits Confession really well (with the reboot and all).
Kibou no Tsubasa (Takeru): Takeru my boy, at last you sing for Patamon decently. The cheerful melody and lyrics (Hello? Daisukidayou?) fits his Tri characteristics as a womanizer. One thing that bugs me though, as good as Junya Enoki singing this song, this does not sound like Tri’s Takeru anymore. The first time I listened, I was like “Who the hell is this?”.
I Can’t (Jou): I really want to know the translation of the lyrics now, because this song is superficially depressing (”I can’t go with you something-something“). Nevertheless, this is a good song and I can picture Jou sing this. On the other hand, Gomamon’s song (You Can’t) was a bit disappointing since Junko Takeuchi is usually very good at singing while staying true to the characters.
THE WTH Do I even have to tell? Tentomon’s Kioku no Kakera!! Maybe the style is just not for me, but I’ve been trying to listen to it several times and my reaction is always either laughing or “WTH?!”. I still like his speaking voice, though. And Koushiro’s is good, btw, just too close to a woman’s voice I can’t imagine it is him singing this.
THE GIRLS  They are such good singers, but the songs were not memorable enough for me. Moreover, I don’t know the meaning of the lyrics (and yes, they do matter and it’s important to me) so I cannot judge them really well. Takeru’s case is repeated in Meiko’s song. Miho Arakawa sang it really beautifully, but it does not sound like Meiko at all. Well, maybe because I always remember her being meek and weak, while in this song she sounded determined.
DON’T FORGET ABOUT THE LEADER  Eien no Puzzle (Taichi): I’m not gonna comment on the song itself, but hearing him sing in quite a high pitch (is it tenor or bariton? I can’t tell) remind me of his voice in Adventure and 02, and suddenly I can imagine how his voice transformed over the years.
THE MOST ADORABLE Who else? Patamon of course. Since the first time I hear his “Don’t Stop Pata-Pata”, he can only be rivaled by Terriermon with “Anytime Moumantai”.
Overall, I am very pleased listening to the character songs. All the characters can sing so well (at last you learn how to sing in these past years, Takeru). Now, it’s time to re-watch all the previous movies while waiting for Ophanimon Falldown Mode in the next movie.
Tamersona Week 2017 Day 1: First Encounter
Hey Digifandom! So excited to be part of Tamersona Week! I kind of went overboard with my OC, based loosely on myself. Full disclaimer, my life is not nearly as melodramatic as Jules’ is, but I just couldn’t help but write a juicy backstory! So, here’s my Tamersona, Jules, and the story of his first encounter with his partner, Terriermon.
Name: Jules Yue Age: 24 Gender: Male Birthday: November 11th Nationality: American Astrology: Scorpio Appearance:  East Asian, black hair that’s long at the top and short on the sides, bangs across one side, half-rimmed glasses, dresses in business casual at work (white collared shirt, navy sweater or vest, skinny khakis) and black v-necks + skinny jeans elsewhere Hobbies: music (particularly remixing early 2000′s alt rock), posting in online forums as his alias “Senri”, reading fantasy fiction, history documentaries, sci-fi movies, museums, Nintendo games and JRPGs Partner: Buns, a black-eared Terriermon (instead of green)
Prompt 1: First Encounter (Feb 15, 2017)
Jules was born in Taipei to an up-and-coming family during the semiconductor and PC boom of the early 90’s. When he was very young, he remembers spending a summer in Tokyo when his dad was on a business trip. He has vague memories of seeing a monster battle one night during that summer - something between a giant dinosaur and giant bird.
Later, when he was twelve, he remembers watching a viral broadcast of a battle between kids and their Digimon against a computer virus on the internet. By that time, his family had moved to Texas due his dad’s promotion. Not long after he watched the battle on the internet, he miraculously received a DigiEgg through his home PC. It hatched and became Lopmon.
Jules was very nervous about revealing the secret of having a Digimon and kept it hidden from his parents, but his mom eventually found out easily as Jules was being clumsy trying to hide Lopmon. Jules’ mom was not scared of Lopmon, and instead said that Lopmon must be a divine gift, as he resembled the tenacious Jade Rabbit on the moon from Chinese legends. She promised she wouldn’t reveal the secret to Jules’ dad or anyone else, and nicknamed Lopmon “Bao,” which is the word for “steamed bun” in Mandarin. Jules was a shy and reserved boy, and Bao was a loving and supportive companion, which helped Jules gain confidence through his adolescence.
However, as Jules got older and went through high school, he became more and more quick to anger due to being extremely competitive in school, a result from the pressure of his dad’s high expectations of him. He unloaded negative energy constantly on Bao, and one night during Jules’ sophomore year, Bao suddenly digivolved into Wendigomon.
Wendigomon went on a rampage across Jules’ suburb; breaking fences, uprooting trees, and scaring pets around the neighborhood. Jules managed to chase Wendigomon to a creek in a neighborhood trail, where the two confronted each other. Jules, unable to calm down Wendigomon, shoved his Digivice into the creek in the spur of the moment, thinking that short circuiting the gadget would cause Wendigomon to lose power. The Digivice went dark in the water, and Wendigomon de-digivolved back to Lopmon. However, Jules’ Digivice stayed off, and when Bao came to after de-digivolving, he did not remember Jules or any of their time together. Jules tried to convince Bao to stay, but Bao refused, insisting that he felt he was in the wrong place. It began to rain, and in a flash of lightning, Bao disappeared.
Jules was traumatized from the separation, and went into depression through the rest of high school. He withdrew from social life, focused on his studies, got into a prestigious college, and moved out from home. He wanted to get away from his parents, who were both worried about him but felt suffocating to him. In college, he tried to forget about Bao and forgive himself, but could never do so fully and struggled to make friends. He focused on becoming independent, and did very well in school. When he graduated from college, he landed a job at a multinational bank in San Francisco, and he moved out to California alone to pursue a well-mannered career.
Jules started a new life as a young, up-and-coming professional in the financial world, becoming self-sufficient and burying his demons. However, he mostly went about his day-to-day in the city alone, and still had trouble opening up to people and making friends. Although he had a promising and comfortable career ahead of him, he felt deflated and demotivated most of the time. In his spare time, he made remixes of 2000’s alt rock and posted them online under the alias “Senri.” He held onto his passion for music, which he got from when he was a kid and his mom placed him in piano and viola lessons.
On a winter night in his city apartment, while Jules was working on some music, he came across a forum having a discussion about the Digimon battle on the internet nearly 15 years ago. People all over the world who witnessed it started talking about it again, now that the 15th anniversary was coming up. There were theories being tossed around that the virus was caused by something called the “Demiurge,” and that a few years after the incident on the internet, there were a group of people called the “Digidestined” that confronted the dark entity. As he scrolled through the forum, the power in his apartment suddenly went out. His computer monitor miraculously turned on during the outage, and, just like when he was a kid, a DigiEgg materialized out from the screen. It hatched and became Terriermon.
Jules was ecstatic. Terriermon was peppy and sarcastic; an instant friend. Jules, now more even-keeled but jaded, quickly clicked with his new sassy friend. He easily grew fond of Terriermon and affectionately named him “Buns.” He found his Digivice in his nightstand drawer; after all this time, he hadn’t let go of it. The device was on again, glowing and alive. He decided this time, he was going to do it right.
It has been a year since Jules and Buns were brought together, and Jules is now a more motivated, active person. On weekends, he often hides Buns in his backpack and goes out on hikes, where he lets Buns out and they enjoy nature together. Jules is more positive at work, and has become better at socializing and has started making new friends. He still has not told anyone about Buns, including his parents, who have since moved back to Taipei. Buns is energetic and very playful and always wants to go out more, but Jules restrains him and is very protective of Buns, as he’s afraid of losing him.
One evening, as Jules is walking home from work to greet Buns, he is stopped on his street in front of his apartment by a foreign woman dressed in a black business pantsuit. She introduces herself as Himekawa, and tells Jules that she knows about Buns. She then tells Jules that she knows other people like him and asks Jules whether he would like to meet them.
WTF does Himekawa want with Jules and Buns?! Where is Bao?!!?! When is Jules going to stop being emo?!??!?! Is Buns going to digivolve??!! Guess we’ll have to see next time, on Tamersona Day 2: Memorable Evolutions!!
