orphan’s path season 4 trivia

-Yes, both the $100,000 Dream vs Technoblade Duel and The Potato War were a) events that actually happened b) events that are canonical to the Dream SMP timeline.

-It is implied in Dream SMP canon that Sally is dead and possibly eaten by Wilbur, though this is mainly subtext.

-We made Fundy’s AFAB name Theodosia because Fundy’s initial character reveal as Wilbur’s son in DSMP canon was based on a Dear Theodosia joke. Dear Theodosia is a song from Hamilton, a musical that the early L’manburg plotline draws heavily on. The L’manburg uniforms are based off the American soldier uniforms from the musical!

-This brief animatic by Wolfy was a driving reason why I included a “proposal” scene in the final chapter of And They Danced.

-orp!philza is demiromantic! Demiromantic is an aromantic spectrum orientation in which a person generally only experiences romantic attraction to people they have a pre-existing deep emotional attachment to. Demiromantic people often think they’re just plain aro until their romantic conditions are met!

-I was really nervous about writing And They Danced despite being an arospec writer, because I wanted to really go about an arospec love story respectfully and authentically. The “romantic fixing” of aro and aro-coded characters who “find the one” in fiction is a real problem in media. Because of this, I reached out to arospec Orphan’s Path readers and mutuals across multiple Discord servers to get their input about how I wanted to approach it.

-Philza was always going to get his hair cut short but we debated when it was going to happen. At one point it was actually going to happen during the DSMP era, then it was moved to after reaping Ender, but ultimately we decided that he should have this independent of any trauma-based decision making.

-It’s hard to write Trixtin. Not that She’s a difficult character to work with, but it’s hard to balance Her as a concrete character when Her appearances by nature require being perceived by Philza or outside parties. In a lot of ways, She almost doesn’t exist unless She’s being perceived or solicited.

-Technoblade doesn’t get a lot of POV chapters in comparison to other characters because his POV is too powerful (this is only half joking).

-Dream’s backstory as an End war veteran, and an End war being why no End portal’s are left except Dream’s, has been something we’ve had in mind even as early as Snow Angel.

-Falrisesi is pretty much the head writer of orp!Dream and drove a lot of the lore surrounding the End.

-Tommy’s character being a superhuman made in a lab is DSMP canon.

-orp!Tommy is not Philza’s child- he’s a clone, but his donor parent is some random guy. Stop being excited about when they’re going to find out tommy is philza’s child. it’s not gonna happen.

-Tubbo being found in a box by Philza and accidentally calling him “dad” as a kid is DSMP canon. 

-Overall, between Tommy and Tubbo, Tubbo has a stronger canon mutual relationship with Philza, while Tommy’s is more parasocial. Expect more tubbo/philza content in the future over tommy/philza content, where orp is concerned.

-Despite Benihime’s breakdown in The Fable of Endlantis, and knowing that its current situation is better than what it had with Ender, it still has trouble really absorbing that what Ender did to it and Philza was abusive or wrong.

-Wilbur still has Sally’s totem by the end of the season.

-It was ConcoctionsFromHell’s idea to let Benihime destroy one of Dream’s dolls after Dream lost the duel.

-Since the Industrial Revolution (and resulting child labor laws) never happened in Orphan’s Path, and mandatory education still largely does not exist, the way the Orphan’s Path universe treats children is a lot more self-responsible than modern IRL. The idea that kids/teens in general should be treated more gently than adults is more recent than you think it is.

-The moon dragon egg cracked! That probably doesn’t mean anything. :)

-There was always meant to be the strong sense that like Philza’s really not meant to live. The brittle heart caught on the dance of death, he was always meant to have fallen, and the weariness of his eyes, the dance of scars on his body, they are the marks of a life past its due- he was always meant to die. (and he lives anyway. because life is hell. but there are things in life worth eternity.)

there's something about how a lot of the more antagonistic dsmp characters view tommy as a "possession," or something to use/own (c!dream, c!wilbur, c!quackity, c!techno, hell even c!bad with wanting to use him for the eggpire....) but all in different ways. tommy isn't a person, he's a toy/doll/knight/pawn. others in the dream smp are people, but so is tommy

Oh yeah! That's actually a really interesting topic so I hope you don't mind me talking about it for a bit...

So, universe wide a lot of people view Tommy as a "hero" because that's what he was painted as to them, which is what brought them to build up unreasonable expectations for him and then be probptly let down when they found out he wasn't as perfect as he was supposed to be (which is one of the things that influenced the general public opinion of Tommy in season 2), that said there are 3 people I'd say that took it a step further:

Dream himself considers Tommy as his favourite plaything, but it's more then just that. Tommy is Dream's only remaining attachment and, with that, comes a whole degree of possessivness and added value given to Tommy. Dream himself described Tommy as the key to absolute power and, in the past, referenced having power over him as enough to make him a God. Tommy isn't just a pawn, because that would mean that being attached to him would make Dream weak (in his own worldview of course), he's special, but not special enough to be a person. He's the key to power and Dream's favourite toy all wrapped up in one which is why he offered him to become immortals together....

Then we got Wilbur. This one is a bit complicated, but I want to remind everyone that all 3 of this people "care or cared" about Tommy in their completely twisted and unhealthy way, that doesn't change anything. That said Wilbur is scared, he's scared of being alone and he's scared of beng insignificant. Tommy is his solution for both of them. Tommy is the only person that truly stuck with him through everything, even when he completely disagreed with what he was doing. Tommy is loyal to a fault, but that's not the only thing he also used to admire Wilbur as basically an idol. If there is anyone who ever made Wilbur feel like he held the world in his hands it's definitely Tommy (and he seems to want to go back to that with the enphasis he put on Tommy truting him, with them being family and with making decisions for him). So, once again, Tommy is less of a person for him and more of a coping mechanism.

Then lastly we have Techno. Techno definitely dehumanized Tommy both by assigning him the "hero" label and by basically treating him as a weapon while they were together. He "cared" about him, but he only started somewhat respecting him once he was violent enough and obedient enough. It took him almost their whole stay together to be even a bit honest with Tommy ("what's the need in being honest with a tool after all?" That's the kind of vibe it gave me) and, even then, he never really took Tommy's own very clear boundaries into consideration at any point (Tommy had been clear from the very beginning that their alliance was under the condition of not harming either Tubbo or L'Manburg) because he didn't care enough to try and compromise. He didn't care enough not to ally himself with Tommy's abuser or even to listen to Tommy during the Community House scene when he begged him to switch sides with him. Tommy wasn't Tommy to him, he was more of a convenient tool.

You did mention Quackity as well in all of this, but he actually doesn't seem to fit this mold, mostly because Quackity's manipulation itself is based on seeing people as people. Find their vulnerabilities and exploit them, that's sh*tty, but still not dehumanizing. That doesn't necessarily means that Quackity respects him or that he's not gonna try and manipulate him, but it is an important difference nonetheless.

My mom was smart as hell (lawyer and law professor) and was supposedly a good, amazing person for most of her life. However, she developed serious mental issues (schizoeffective disorder) when I was like 10-12, or at least they got worse.

Led to her knowing exactly how to be to not get in trouble, and how much she could abuse people without her kids getting taken away or my dad going through the effort needed to fight her in court.

People could never seem to grasp that smart person who could come off well adjusted and is in a position of authority could ever abuse their kid they love. Even though the love was a toxic, love of an object rather than as a person, doll kinda love. Also, I was always a very extraverted kid who developed a lot of toxic positivity in order for people to like me and had gifted kid syndrome, so I never really showed the stereotypical signs of abuse at home.

Never truly realized how shit and *not normal* my situation was until my mother was dead and I went through a shit ton of therapy.

The dynamic between c!Tommy and later c!Dream (like Nov 16th destruction of Manberg on) just reminds me a bit too much of my dynamic with my mother. Makes me pissed when I see people apologize for Dream in the same way people loved to dismiss my own abuser. CPS quickly believed I was fine as I had no marks, could sort of function in the house and had good grades, and cops usually just thought I was an imaginative kid looking for attention.

No 11 year old should ever learn how to mask abuse and no adult should ever dismiss a kid's cries for help, especially if they suddenly go silent when around the person they need help from.

TLDR: don't dismiss abuse, fuck anyone who does. Don't care that it's fictional character, don't care that you like the abusive character, don't care that you think it was justified that the victim was abused, don't care that you don't think it was "that bad". If someone is saying that it's abuse, and especially if it is an abuse survivor saying it, treat it as irl abuse when talking about it. There are real people that you could be hurting by dismissing abusive actions and creating excuses for that shit.

Dismissing DSMP's ending, I like c!Dream as a villain, it is an incredible symbol of a real abuser. I am fine with light hearted talk of early dream (Prime bois building church prime, the silly hahas that was the early EARLY days of dsmp) However, I won't stand for people who apologize for him, especially the later him.

I have also used c!Tommy as a way to come to terms with and acknowledge the abuse I faced. I have also discovered a lot of new triggers based on the conversation around exile!Tommy and Dream.

half the fandom and most of the characters: idc what c!tommy says he’s annoying. and he’s very self centered he’s probably exaggerating. c!dream seems fine to me. and if he did punish tommy, that’s not my business, tommy was acting out and likely deserved it in order to learn a lesson. dream has good reasoning and it’s for the goo.

A C!Benchtrio Main’s Thoughts on c!Tommy’s story Ending with Only C!Wilbur

Okay that title is a mess and I apologize. This is basically a post where I ramble about why I personally would not enjoy an end to c!Tommy’s story that doesn’t have c!Beeduo being there with/for him or otherwise having them be completely absent. There’s c!Tubbo, c!Ranboo and c!Wilbur crit. I enjoy all 3 in different ways and hold no ill will towards ccs. Please scroll past if you don’t want to read.

 So, I’ll start with some background info. I joined the DSMP fandom/lore around the start of the exile arc. I joined during the initial griefing of c!George’s base as well as the peace meetings that followed. I had no prior knowledge about the story/characters/plot other than “block people do angsty shit and cry often”, and this was the foundation of my whole DSMP introduction.

 I watched exile. I feel in love with c!Tommy. I grew to loath c!Dream with all my soul had to offer in terms of hate. I was angry at c!Tubbo but understood his reasoning for not wanting to visit, and though his lack of action will always be one of his biggest flaws, c!Ranboo’s attempts to offer Tommy emotional relief continues to be one of his best traits in my very biased eyes.

 C!Benchtrio has always been the relationship I’ve had the most investment in when it comes to lore. I’m not sure why this is exactly. Maybe it’s a projection of my years spent as a young victim of abuse-based trauma. Maybe it’s the lighthearted yet tender care they hold for each other. Maybe it’s the dynamic of a zesty gremblin child being protected by an 8′5 tall vvoop vvoop with anxiety and a beefy goat child with the secrets to nuclear science. Maybe I just liked them and though they all matched and fit in a funky but sweet way. Maybe my brain just latched onto the first dynamic it saw and has kept an iron grip since. Who knows?

 I’ve waited for c!Beeduo to acknowledge the parts they had to play in exile for a very long time.

 I’ve waited for c!Tubbo to realize what he condemned Tommy to by not visiting for a long time.

 I’ve waited for c!Ranboo to wisen up to how unfair it is that he be treated so kindly by people who’ve hurt Tommy so terribly yet treat him like a perfect doll when he’s (possibly unwillingly) done so much worse in enderwalk.

 I waited after exile. I waited after Doomsday. I waited post disc finale and held on tight post revival. The outpost arc shook my grip alot and made me develop a lot of angry feelings towards c!Beeduo, but even through it all, I still held on to the hope that they’d cut the shit and Be There Like They Said They Would and make my care for them valid once again.

 I’ll be blunt when I say I don’t enjoy c!crimeboys. I don’t hate it. It is a very complex, very nuanced, very deep and messy and beautifully written relationship between two equally complex and beautifully messy characters, both of whom are a very good representation of how trauma can affect a person and cause them to act in ways that are Very Ugly without demonizing them for having those traumas in the first place. I obviously prefer c!Tommy out of the two, but c!Wilbur is good in his own way and deserves a lotta love and a whole lotta therapy.

 But I don’t like crimeboys. I don’t enjoy it. It isn’t a relationship that I have any investment in beyond a purely analysis level, and even then I focus more on how UNHEALTHY it is rather than any soft sweet “they are bruddas ur honor” fluff that the c!crimeboys part of this fandom has clung to as the lore turns awful and more characters drop away into nothing.

 I don’t like c!crimeboys.

 I still like c!Benchtrio. 

 C!Benchtrio is this warm comfort that makes me so happy. It’s like a soft blanket. It’s my comfort relationship and I still love it so much even after how awful c!Beeduo have become towards c!Tommy.

 I just...I just don’t want c!Tommy to be alone.

 I just don’t want his only friend in the world to be c!Wilbur. Not because c!Wilbur is evil or dangerous, but because it’s clear to me that any ending that focuses soley on him apologizing to c!Tommy will likely end with some sort of scene where c!Tommy will have to talk him down from suicide like he did in Pogtopia, and listen, I GET the representation of such things matters, but please, fucking PLEASE tell me I’m wrong for finding the idea of c!Tommy’s “soft ending” being him being stuck as the sole caretaker of a grown adult whose abused him in the past and still acts in a similar manner when left to his own devices is just a BIT FUCKING CRUEL. I wanna trust cc!Wilbur. But sir, PLEASE DONT TRY TO PAINT THAT AS A GOOD THING I WILL FEEL SICK AND VIOLENTLY GET ILL.

 C!Wilbur isn’t a dangerous person, but he sure as hell isn’t a GOOD person. He’s not the harmless meow meow wet rag so many of his fans paint him as. He’s a mentally ill adult who needs to be monitored closely throughout a firmly structured recovery so he doesn’t hurt either himself or others as he as in the past while under extreme mental unrest(abuse towards c!Tommy in Pogtopia, 16th, Ho16 are the most notable examples but there are Many More). 

 He needs a therapist, not an emotional support little brother.

 And yeah. c!Beeduo aren’t perfect either. Not by a long shot. I’m still waiting for the talk about Ranboo setting off the prison TNT. I’m still waiting for c!Tubbo to apologize for not visiting during exile. I’m still waiting for their cruelty during the outpost arc to be acknowledged in full, for them to say sorry, for them to apologize for dumping c!Tommy in the dirt that way and to actually act on all the promises they made post revival and to BE THERE and SHOW that they care rather than just TELL.

 I’m waiting.

 I’m still fucking waiting.

 I’ve given cc!Beeduo so much trust when it comes to how their characters treat c!Tommy. I have a hundred words of crit to saw about both of their writing decisions, both past and very recent and VERY BAD. But I’m not even angry about those anymore. I’m just angry that cc!Beeduo led me to believe that c!Beeduo were c!Tommy’s closet friends in the whole world, when really it seems they’re just two nasty fake brats who had their fun and decided to ditch him as soon as it got hard.

 I’m just sad. I’m just angry. I just want to know that the investment I had in the one relationship in any piece of media that I’ve ever consumed that actually made me feel shit was worth it. I just want to know I wasn’t stupid for loving c!Benchtrio as much as I still do. I just want one little moment with the 3 of them before it’s over. I just want c!Beeduo to say they’re sorry and that they’ll do better. I just want that one thing.

 I’m sad. I’m upset. This turned into more of a rant than an analysis. I’m just in grief over my boys and needed to get it out. Sorry if this was shit.

Tommy personally likes to call Robin, who recently dubbed himself Nightwing, an off-brand parrot. It fits with the man’s aesthetic really, plus the man doesn’t shut up and sometimes sings while fighting to annoy villains.

hello!! i was wondering if i could get a yandere dsmp matchup? (no preference for gender of the character, but id like it to be romantic! as for the yandere aspect, i would really not want to get a yandere that's very demeaning to their person of interest, if that makes sense? i wouldn't wanna be insulted basically haha)

i'm 5'7 and i'm a girl, kinda chubby!! I'm studying Literature and Society at the moment, and as that study implies, I really enjoy reading!! Mostly fantasy or horror books, basically anything that can get me the furthest away from reality :P I LOVE mythology of any kind as well!! Other than that, I love to write and go swimming frequently!

When it comes to my personality, I have no issues striking up conversations with strangers, and i love doing stuff like going to parties and just hanging out cuz if i sit inside for too long i get nervous,, I work as a cashier so i kinda have to be used to talking to people for long stretches of time! Though I can talk rather easily, I don't have a lot of ppl I'd consider close friends, and rarely open up to anyone- But I'm very caring about my close friends and def the 'Mom Friend', basically!! I love listening to people ramble, and been told im good at giving gifts cuz i remember little things!! My biggest weakness is that I'm super weak to praise / physical affection cuz i rarely get any, and feel way too bad for people too quickly haha

After thinking for a little bit, I decided to give you ... Philza/Phil! You said you want someone who is sweet and doesn't hurt you, so, Philza is pretty good with that! He might not be the greatest in some aspects, but he is still nice at the end of the day.

A . How would they show their love and affection? How intense would it get? - Philza would most likely give you as much physical affection as possible. He would be pretty sweet and gentle with you, making all your dreams come true.

B. What type of future are they planning with their lover? - Philza really wishes to get married to you and starting a family with you. He loves you and hopes you are open to the idea.

C. What is the scariest moment with them? - Philza can sometimes take things.. wrong and sometimes, he can hurt you without realizing he is hurting you. But I promise you, he does really love you!

D. How do they usually act with their lover? - Philza is very protective and gentle with you, treating you as if you are some little doll that needs to be loved.

E. How would they court their lover before? - Philza would make sure that he becomes close to you and becomes a father-like figure to you before starting to pull his move.

F. What's their favorite memory/thing in the relationship? - Philza absolutely adores it whenever you wake up and are groggy and look so absolutely cute.
