Ngl it feels like my muscles are eating themselves and I'm starting to get real worried since it's getting worse and I've had to take a concoction of meds daily that I didn't used to have to take just to get the pain go down a little bit.
I've had this all over body pain for a few years now. originally my only chronic pain issues were from my spine and my hips; my knees got bad recently too since my crooked spine made my hips crooked which made my legs uneven lengths and fucked all that up. The best comparison I can make for this body pain is if you exercised and lifted weights vigorously for 10 hours straight, after not exercising for years, without stretching beforehand, and woke up the next day on top of a rock.

Last year when I went to see Lvjy in Scotland and England with Mia, I hurt my leg. Badly. I had strained it before I left and during the trip just completely fucked it up. My doctor warned me I had done pretty severe damage to it. Tore a muscle, the muscle now irritates my sciatic nerve and can cause intense pain. I went to physical therapy and it slowly got better but I still had trouble standing for long periods of time in October .
After everything happened in February, I decided I needed to get my shit together. I started exercising regularly. Drinking less. Changed my diet. I started working on losing weight. And I had really quick results. I've lost 18 pounds right now.
But almost 2 weeks ago I hurt my bad leg. I don't know if it was on the rowing machine or when I took the nephews to a trampoline park, but over the course of a weekend, my hamstring got incredibly stiff and I started getting this electric shooting pain down my leg that made it hurt to stand and walk. The act of getting out of bed or sitting (and standing) would hurt so much that I wanted to just stay in bed the whole day.
I immediately got a doctor appointment. My normal doctor was out of town so she sent me to someone in her practice. I needed pain relief and a rec for physical therapy. I went in knowing that and just had a humiliating experience where the doctor implied she didn't believe my medical history and acted like I was wanting pain killers (when I hadn't requested ANY pain relief other than last year when I was traveling and then I ended up fucking up my leg so bad that it didn't help). But I got a prescription for tramadol for a week (and I've been skipping doses to stretch that out), an order to take 800mg of ibuprofen on top of that, and a referral for physical therapy.
But I'm still in just. Intense. pain. At first, I couldn't get the physical therapist to understand that I can't do a lot of these exercises and stretches without crying. Yesterday she seemed to get that and we tried cupping(???) and some heat massage to try and get my hamstring to relax but fuck man. I'm in so much pain today that I laid in bed and cried just from trying to get up
I just don't understand how to convince doctors that I can't heal when I can't even walk down the stairs or through the grocery store

Life Update since I hadn't been on here in forever
The pandemic was/is wild! Lockdowns started literally around the time we were going to the fertility specialist to get her pregnant. I lost my job to COVID in March shortly before we did the procedure, but we decided there's never really a good time to have a kid. Why not during a global pandemic when one of us in unemployed? (BTW, I don't recommend having a kid during a pandemic. Not being able to go to all of the appointments and having to sit in the parking lot was brutal.)
Let's talk about May friends...it was rough. (TW for mention of suicide btw. I'll post a gif where it's safe to start again if you wanna skip over it.)
So May 1st is the anniversary of my father's suicide. It had been 4 years. I found his body and since he wasn't married, I had to handle his affairs and arrange his funeral. May 1st, 2020 my wife and I had a Zoom game night with our friends and I got drunk because everyone was drinking (except my wife because she was pregnant). After our game night at like 2am, I had a psychotic break. I threatened to kill myself numerous times. My wife tried to talk me down, but eventually called the cops to take me. I thank her for that because looking back, that was the moment I knew something needed to change. I was convinced the cops were gonna kill me because I'm a trans dude in rural West Texas. I legit took the phone out of my wife's hand, hung up on 911, and yeeted her phone across the backyard and tried to hop the fence. Eventually the cops came and talked me down. They took me to the hospital an hour away in handcuffs (for their protection I did nothing wrong). They took me to the religious hospital that I was born in. So when they looked up my info by my name and date of birth from my driver's license (I only changed my middle name) literally all my paperwork and my bracelet had my deadname and wrong gender despite all of my legal stuff saying male with my new middle name. I mentioned it to them and they didn't care. They misgendered me the entire time I was there. I had hit my head hella hard on the bath tub when my wife was trying to snap me out of it, did the hospital even check me for concussion? Nope. I had punched so many things and my hand and wrist were swollen and discolored. Did they check out my hand and wrist? Nope. I was there for over 10 hours before I was able to convince them I was okay and that it was just the alcohol. Did I mention during that 10 hours I was literally out in the hall on a gurney with no mask and this was when COVID was running rampant in Texas (the first time)? I heard people die that night. I had nothing to distract me because they took away all of my personal items and clothes. My wife picked me up and we went home and I have been sober ever since. It's not the first psychotic break I've had with alcohol in my system. Alcohol just doesn't agree with me, but I'm finding new things to replace it with.

A couple of weeks after that I began teletherapy because I had been on the same mood stabilizer and anti-depressant for almost a decade. The more I thought about it, the more it made sense that I felt like it hadn't been working for at least a year. This is a reminder to check in with your doctor if you feel like your meds aren't working. You may just need a different dose or a new med. There's no shame in that. I bounced around on various medications trying to find the right combo, some side effects scarier than others, but we got there. Before this, I had been diagnosed with ADHD, Major Depressive Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. My therapist threw out my Borderline diagnosis and said it was CPTSD instead, which made sense.
Fast forward to December because my wife was pregnant, I was unemployed still, and we did absolutely fuck-all because the global panini was still raging.
Our son was born on December 3, 2020. He weighed 5lbs 9oz and scared the ever loving shit out of us. He wasn't breathing when he was born so they called NICU in ASAP. I'm freaking out because I can hear and see what's going on while my wife was asking if he was okay as they put her guts back in place to sew her up. 5 or so minutes pass and a nurse asks if I want her to take some pictures. I'm like is he okay, he still hasn't cried. She's like "oh yeah, he's chillin." This goon was being held by a nurse and was just looking around not crying or anything. Chillest baby ever (he still is btw). I held him next to my wife's head until it was time to go back to the room. Little dude did have to spend 4 nights in the NICU because he couldn't keep his sugars or temperature regulated, but he was healthy otherwise. He's now 4 months old and is starting to sit up on his own a little bit and he's OBSESSED with standing. He's still a little guy, but very healthy and growing like a weed. He saves my life daily.

So after being unemployed for over 9 months, I started a new job working in a call center. I absolutely hate talking on the phone. It gives me anxiety and throws me into panic attacks, but I had been putting out hundreds of job applications since I lost my last job and this was the first offer I got. I wasn't really in a position to turn it down since my unemployment had ran out 2 months prior. It was 2 months of training, then we'd be on our own. I got thru the training and thought I could handle it...until they started putting us on live calls with someone helping us if we got stuck. My mental health hit the lowest point it had in a few years and my wife was terrified she was going to lose me. She convinced me to quit on February 28th (not because I didn't want to, but because I'm a stubborn ass who felt guilty). My meds got tweaked a little bit more dosage wise during this mess.
Starting about mid-February, I was experiencing severe shakiness, tremors, and spasms. I've always been a shaky person and never really thought too much about it, but at some points I could barely feed myself, or get a drink, or hold my son. On March 7th, I tried to make an appointment with my doctor about the weird symptoms I was experiencing, but she was out of town and her next opening wasn't until the 31st. My body said that won't work and my wife rushed me to the ER on the 9th...I had begun having seizures that day. I had no previous history of seizures. Got to the ER and had a seizure literally as I was walking thru the door, so they rushed me straight back. They took some blood and that was literally it. No MRI. No CT. They pumped me full of Ativan and said it was just a panic attack and to go home and chill.
Spoiler Alert: It wasn't just anxiety. I was having 20+ seizures a day. On the 10th, my wife rushed me to a different hospital...the good hospital over an hour away. First we had to drop off our gremlin with my mom to make things a little easier. Yet again, I had a seizure as I walked in the door and was taken back immediately. I don't really remember much because they kept pumping me full of Ativan and morphine because I had been in excruciating pain from the number of seizures I'd had. I do remember them doing a CT pretty quickly after I got there. Then they weren't happy with the results of the CT, so they took me to get an MRI, which showed possible signs of Multiple Sclerosis (but I didn't find that out until AFTER the notes showed up in my patient portal after being home a few days, so I raised hell...more on that later.) They did a 24 hour EEG on me and it showed nothing abnormal. Also, EEG glue is a bitch on your hair and scalp. After looking at everything and given my previous mental health history, they diagnosed me with Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures, or PNES. It is a subset of Functional Neurologic Disorder, or FND. I couldn't walk well anymore and had to use a walker when I was discharged. I was in the hospital for 3 days.
When I had my follow-up appointment on the 23rd, I asked why the possibility of MS was never mentioned to me since it was very clearly in the notes. The doctor didn't have an explanation. He called in a referral to neurology so I could get a 2nd MRI to confirm MS and marked it as high priority. He also didn't take my pain seriously. My pain levels had been at a 5 or higher every single minute since they took me off of the morphine in the hospital. He told me to keep taking prescription strength doses of ibuprofen and Tylenol, which I had been. I let him know I had been and it didn't even take the edge off the pain. He ignored me. Leading up to this appointment, I had also added urinary incontinence to my growing list of symptoms and was forced to wear diapers so I didn't have to do laundry all the time. The doctor also took me off my ADHD meds because they were lowering my seizure threshold. He also took me off of my sleeping meds and nightmare meds for the same reason I'm assuming.
I kept my appointment on the 31st with my primary doctor because she's been my doctor for 5 years now and I knew she'd take my pain seriously. She did. She immediately wrote me prescriptions for a muscle relaxer and Tylenol 4. She also told me that my referral had been rejected by neuro. She said my case wasn't a good one for what she called a "wallet biopsy" and the doctors in neurology could be real assholes. She immediately sent the referral to other locations to get an approval. I am still waiting on that despite it being marked as high priority. She wrote me a prescription for a wheelchair because we both agreed my wheelchair was not enough for particular days.
Yesterday my wheelchair was finally ready for pickup, so my wife drove me to go get it. I'm still unable to drive due to my seizures and my tremors and twitches as it's predominantly in my legs and arms. I am an ambulatory wheelchair user now. Some days I can go short distances without my walker, some days I can't go without my walker, some days I can't even get out of bed, and some days I will be using my wheelchair. Don't judge a book by its cover, not all disabilities are visible. I have managed to keep my daily seizure count down in single digits and have even had a few seizure free days. They are still incredibly taxing on my body. I feel like I can't ever replenish my spoons fast enough to keep up with anything in my life.

So all in all, life has been chaotic. We are moving from Texas to New Mexico in the next few weeks, which should be interesting considering I can't overdo it without throwing myself into seizures. We will be closer to my mother-in-law so she can help us with our son and I can start resting a bit more on the more difficult days. Being a stay-at-home dad with an invisible illness has been one of the most challenging things I've done in my life, but I wouldn't change it for the world.
Sorry this is so long. I just wanted to update my followers since it's been over a year since I posted before a few days ago.

Good morning to all two of my followers, back pain sucks ass and doesn't even manage to do it in any way that's satisfying.
In light of that here are some tips curated by yours truly over several years of having a shitty back.
Have a tennis ball? Have one of those really weird fused tennis balls that's got the dip in the middle between the two balls? That is now your best friend. Lay on it for hours on end.
Don't have a fused tennis ball? How about 2 tennis balls and some duct tape? Yes? Duct tape two tennis balls together and make sure there's a divot in the middle of the balls for your spine to sit in. That is now your best friend whenever you are laying down.
Sitting up hurting? Instead of sitting upright immediately, roll on your side from your back, and push your self all the way up using your arms. Do not use your core muscles. That will cause more pain. 0/10, I don't recommend causing more pain.
Heat packs and ice packs are both your friends. Alternate them so you can bring down inflammation in your joints (your back has quite a lot of those) with ice, and relax your muscles with heat.
Don't lay on your stomach... Just don't. Especially if the pain is in your low back. Trust me on this, it only makes it worse. Upper back might not be so affected by it though.
Hot showers. Long hot showers. Enough said.
I can not endorse icy hot enough. Or aspercream. Or arnica gel/cream. Literally any muscle rub is going to help. I recommend icy hot bc then you're too distracted by the simultaneous hot/cold experience to notice more pain usually.
Tips for if you medicate (I'm not a doctor, so this is from personal experience, please don't sue me): if you're using ibuprofen, don't take more than 1200mg a day. Check your dosages on your bottle. If you've got 200mg tablets, that means only 6 tablets a day, and i recommend spreading them out as far as you can. Before i saw my rheumatologist, i took 600mg in the morning, and 600 mg in the evening. I tried to space them out about 12 hours apart. If you only need a medium dose at a time, try 400mg per dose. If that's wearing off faster than every 12 hours, try 400mg every 8 hours. Ibuprofen can crap out your kidneys, so please be careful about how much you take. My rule of thumb is if I can't remember if I took it or not, then i have to assume i took it and suffer through the pain, even if I'm 75% sure i didn't take it.
Medication tips continued (again please don't sue me): if you're taking Tylenol/acetaminophen, then please be careful still. Tylenol can crap out your liver, and you only have one of those, even if it can regenerate. The maximum dose i would take as an adult (and some of this is based off age, some of its based off height and weight, so check your bottle) is 1000mg. And I'd take that every 8 hours as needed. (personally Tylenol didn't work for me, so i only took it if I felt like i was dying.)
If you don't want to take medications, that's valid and based. My dudes medication sucks more than a prostitute, and that's bc you've got to remember when you took it.
Another medication tip. If you're running on a 10-12 hours in between doses (or 8 hours between doses even) write down the time you took your last medication on a whiteboard, sticky note, your phone, anywhere you might remember it. This is important for the days when you're laying there in immense amounts of pain and have called out from work bc standing hurts. You can then confirm if you've taken your meds or not.
If it gets unbearable, keep in mind: pain isn't normal. Go schedule an appointment with your doctor, or go to the urgent care or emergency room. I understand that insurance sucks, and that you may not have good insurance, but trust me if you can bring yourself to go to the doctor, it's better to do it now than to wait until you literally can't move. I have a friend who ended up getting surgery for a hernia to solve his back pain, while i got referred out to a rheumatologist, so there are many different solutions and not all of the reasons behind back pain are directly tied to your back.
Another note about doctors: i have found that they are quite concerned about back pain in younger people, especially if you have a job that means you can't account for back pain. I was really surprised my primary doctor wanted to run blood tests when I first told her about my back pain. VERY surprised. My parental unit and i both had questionable experiences with the doctor before, and my other parental unit worked in healthcare so i knew that doctors were very busy, and sometimes wouldn't always catch everything that the nurses or aides would catch. I had expected to have to insist that something was wrong, and instead was told "I'm ordering a set of labs, just show up to the outpatient lab at the hospital and they'll take your blood and send you on your way." Doctors do listen. I promise there are good ones that will listen to you, and won't just discount your pain for something else.

16. Good days and bad days...
So after wetting the bed, I went through a phase of waking up at 3am/4am or 5am for a toilet trip.
Bladder full and in pain running to the toilet half asleep - which I’ve been told can be really dangerous as your body is awake but your mind can still be asleep😴
Anyway, getting to the toilet as quick as you can is the only option because the fear of wetting the bed again is too much, so I sit on the toilet half asleep until the pain eases and I can get up and go back to bed. I try my hardest to ‘stay sleepy’ so once I’m back in bed I fall right back asleep😂
I need the beauty sleep.
That doesn’t always happen so there I am wide awake and then tired for the rest of the day because I’ve only had 6 hours sleep. Btw I need about 10 hours sleep and then a nap to function properly🤣
Even with a morning trip to the toilet, days are either a good day or a bad day and I have to just get on with it.🤷🏻‍♀️
Lots of people ask me “oh so how are you getting on with everything lex” referring to this. I just answer with good and bad days. I hate going through explaining it all. To anyone else, a daily burning sensation is horrifying and they’d be straight to the doctors but that is a pain level of 2/10 each day for me and it’s become the new normal so when I’m having a bad day it’s a 7/10 and I would not be sitting in front of them, where ever we are😂
I’d be in bed, probably crying, doses up on co-codamol to relax some muscles and take the pain away😢
It’s sad that that is the ‘new normal’ for me but I know when it gets bad and going to the doctors every time just really adds more stress.

Once recent example was on my mum’s birthday (10th February 2020).
I was absolutely fine all day long! Having a good day! Driving home from uni to set up my mum’s birthday evening. I went to the toilet as soon as I got in and once again... BAM!💥 my body deciding that the night wasn’t going to be good too, can’t have it both ways.
I went from 0-100 in pain scale within the second, uncomfortable when I sat down to full hardcore pain after the wee. I was bent over in agony, I couldn’t sit down as the pelvic pain was too much. I took an ibuprofen to reduce the swelling, thinking it would help.
After we had our dinner, I took a bath and had to have a strong co-codamol this time as it was not leaving my body. I had pain just below my belly button, very intense pressure. It also hurt to touch my stomach because I felt like it was going to explode😑
In these situations I just have to let the painkillers kick in, relax as much as I can, hot water bottle on and sleep it off. Best solution in that moment as I don’t have any other options right now in terms of treatment.🤷🏻‍♀️
I had to listen to my body the next day and not go into uni. For my master’s I only do two days a week so it really annoys me when I have to take days off🥴
But my body was so drained from the trauma the day before and I found it hard to move about in my regular time too. I couldn’t get dressed quick enough, I knew I would be in pain driving and then not being able to concentrate just wasn’t worth it.
For the next few days I was drained. My side was hurting all day, I had urgency through the roof, pain when going the toilet, even having to run the toilet through date night in the pictures😑
My bladder hurts when it’s full and when it’s empty. I can’t ever pin point the burning down there it just feels all over. Stomach is swollen and the pain radiates from side to my hip and upto my bra line - honestly don’t catch a break.

Flare time can fluctuate and sometimes lasting a week or two weeks. It honestly depends. That is a big one to explain to people because I may be standing but I’ll still be in a flare.
Then I went through such a good patch. Feeling generally okay in myself, still so tired in uni but good. ✌🏼
Then right back to flare time all over again.
I usually wake up in agony, bladder full and running to the toilet that’s where it typically starts, a rude 5am wake up call🤦🏻‍♀️
The symptoms build up gradually and then one really bad toilet trip flips the switch to where I need painkillers as quick as they come and I have to try every stand up/sit down position until I can ease the pain. Then I don’t move😂
It’s like a yo-yo, up and down constantly.
So yeah I just have good days and bad days. With probably a lot more bad days than the average person but I’m still alive🙌🏼 Then thankful I have more good days than what some people get too.
Until a miracle comes around the corner I just have to keep up with my supplements, dietary restrictions and see what works for me🤷🏻‍♀️...

Something feels godawful pinchy in my shoulder on one side. I’ve just taken more ibuprofen (after which point I have run out--need to stop somewhere tomorrow to buy more) because the dose I took at work wore off. 
I don’t want to clean the rats’ cage until it kicks in because it hurts to lean over. Or stand up. Augh.
My plans post cage-cleaning are basically 1. long, hot shower 2. smoke some weed 3. go to bed, because I work super-early-for-me am shifts again tomorrow and Wednesday. Hoping the weed does double-duty as muscle relaxant and sleep aid, but we’re out of the strain that was amazing for that; it hasn’t been available much lately.

It’s 8:30 am, woke up thinking about my Mom. I miss her. I miss my Dad and eldest brother. I miss my brother Neil, too.....he’s not gone, thank God, but he’s not the same. He’s changed and he’s distant. I miss having my family together.
It wasn’t perfect, there were always problems, a lot of fighting and turmoil. But they were healthy and relatively happy. I often miss the family when I watch old shows that I watched during that time, the 80s and some 90s. It comes to mind and I feel a bit sad. 
Time goes by too fast these days. Days, weeks, months, and years.....fly by.. I want it to slow down. I’ll be 40 in a little over a year. 40. I can hardly believe it. I do NOT feel 40. 
My thyroid is low again, I knew it was a mistake when they lowered my dose. Also have a B12 deficiency, Vitamin D deficiency and a slight sodium deficiency. It explains how i’ve been feeling. I haven’t felt right, so tired, fatigued, weak, forgetful, as they call it “foggy brained”. I’ve been miserable, trying to figure out if I am sick or depressed. I was pretty sure I wasn’t going through depression, I have felt ok in my moods. For the most part. 
The weakness has been so bad. Started in my legs.. Hard to stand up from sitting, hard to stand or walk for any period of time. Then, my arms. I noticed it the most at Thanksgiving. I went to lift the turkey and it felt like I was lifting at least 50 pounds. And i’ve made huge turkeys every year for a very long time!!!! I knew something was wrong right then. Even lifting a small pot of water is difficult. I’ve never experienced this kind of weakness, even with a flu. 
Sierra stayed with a friend last night, and I really wanted to use that time to go out for a bit. But then as time went on, I was dreading doing my makeup and just wanted to go to bed. 
The doctor wants to wait until next month to raise my dose on thyroid meds and start supplements! I don’t get that. Any time in the past, with other doctors, they adjusted my medicine right away. I have old thyroid meds from back before she lowered it, and i’ve started taking them again. I’m tired of feeling this way. Not to mention, all of these problems can be dangerous. B12 can cause mutation to your DNA that can cause cancer, among other things. D can cause osteoporosis. Low thyroid can cause heart problems (and hello, i’ve HAD a heart attack in the past couple years), etc.. I’ve also started taking D and B12 supplements. This makes me wonder if I should switch to another doctor. I miss Dr. Mcgee, she was a great doctor. She moved on to work in the emergency department at the hospital.  I don’t dislike this doctor, just concerned. 
I read the B12 and D deficiency can cause bone and muscle pain, i’m thinking that could be the problem.....I was trying to clean yesterday, and first my lower back started to hurt so bad. I took tylenol, ibuprofen and a muscle relaxer. Tried again, and my neck and shoulders started hurting really bad. It felt like I had something really heavy on my shoulders. I had to lay down to relieve that pain.
I sound like i’m complaining, all through this blog post. Sorry. lol Just been having a rough time physically. A little bit mentally too, with the forgetfulness. I’ve always been forgetful. It sucks. But it’s been so bad here lately. Last week, on the way to a friend’s house we were supposed to pick up ice. Along the way, I wondered if we had picked up ice or not. I could not remember, but thought we may have, so I didn’t say anything. We didn’t. Then another day, Mark said he was going to be back in the room before he leaves for the store. I do not remember him being in the room, he says he was. I have no memory of it.
I get so frustrated with this house and no where to put anything. The kitchen is horrible, so small, hardly any counter space or cupboards. Tired of groceries being left on the kitchen table for lack of anywhere to put it. I HATE CLUTTER!! When I was growing up, my family always kept stuff out on the kitchen counters. We had good cupboards....good counter space. But still, cluttered. It gives me anxiety. 
I guess I will go for now. A lot I hope to get done today. I have a lot of clothes needing folded (hoping my shoulders don’t start again), finish trying to straighten up the house, maybe put the Christmas tree up. Then, they guys are wanting me to make pies, hoping to get that done, too. All before dinner (roast chicken thighs, so so good the way I make it). I’ve felt like cooking lately. Poor Mark has had to do a lot of the cooking (easy stuff mostly lol) for a while, haven’t felt well. Still not feeling well, but have felt more like cooking since Thanksgiving.

Hormone fluctuations occurring during your menstrual cycle are thought to be the primary cause of PMS, while chemical changes in your brain may also play a role.
In addition, insufficient levels of certain vitamins and minerals have been associated with PMS, while the foods you eat and habits you keep also can intensify your symptoms. If you routinely reach for pain-relieving medications to counteract the discomfort associated with “that time of the month,” you may want to consider fennel and ginger — two herbs known to ease cramping. Fennel and Ginger: Two Herbs That May Help Soothe Your PMS Symptoms
Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is a flowering plant species in the carrot family indigenous to the Mediterranean that has been naturalized in other parts of the world. This fragrant, flavorful herb has many culinary and medicinal uses, including the treatment of menstrual cramps and other aspects of PMS. About fennel, one scholarly source says:1
“[F]ennel is a well-known and important medicinal and aromatic plant widely used as carminative, digestive, galactogogue and diuretic and in treating respiratory and gastrointestinal disorders. Phenols, phenolic glycosides and volatile aroma compounds such as trans-anethole, estragole and fenchone have been reported as the major phytoconstituents of this species.
Different pharmacological experiments … have convincingly demonstrated the ability of fennel to exhibit antifungal, antibacterial, antioxidant, antithrombotic and hepatoprotective activities, lending support to the rationale behind several of its therapeutic uses.”
Ginger (Zingiber officinale), a cousin of cardamom and turmeric, is believed to have originated as ground flora in tropical lowlands across Southeast Asia. The roots of this prolific flowering plant are widely used in folk medicine, and ginger has also been identified as an herbal anti-inflammatory useful in the treatment of PMS. With respect to ginger, the International Journal of Preventative Medicine stated:2
“[T]he rhizome of ginger has been used in traditional herbal medicine. The health-promoting perspective of ginger is attributed to its rich phytochemistry. Ginger has potential for treating a number of ailments including degenerative disorders, digestive disorders, cardiovascular disorders, vomiting, diabetes mellitus and cancer. It also has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative properties ... Furthermore, it has antimicrobial potential as well, which can help in treating infectious diseases.”
Fennel Shown To Be as Effective as NSAIDs for Treating Painful Menstrual Cramps
A 2013 Iranian study3 took a closer look at the usefulness of fennel as a remedy for painful menstrual cramps. The study authors noted cramps as a common complaint for women and girls, suggesting more than 70 percent of Iranian women and nearly 75 percent of teenage girls suffer from painful menstruation.
While the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or oral contraceptive pills — both of which work by reducing myometrial activity — are common treatments, these are not always acceptable long-term therapies due to the potential side effects.
About fennel as a potential remedy for cramps, the study authors suggest fennel contains “antispasmodic and anethol agents that may be helpful for the management of primary dysmenorrhea,”4 which is defined as cramping pain in the lower abdomen that occurs just before or during menstruation. Their research involved 60 college students, ages 18 to 25 years, suffering from cramps.
The participants were divided into two groups and followed for two cycles. Medication was administered at the onset of pain, with the study group receiving 25 drops of a 2 percent fennel-containing solution every six hours. If pain was not reduced within two hours, the study group also received 250 milligrams (mg) of mefenamic acid, an NSAID, in capsule form. The control group received only 250 mg of mefenamic acid, also in capsule form, every six hours, as needed.
After comparing the two groups, the researchers asserted, “The present study showed the efficacy of fennel drops in pain relief for primary dysmenorrhea is comparable to the efficacy of common NSAIDs such as mefenamic acid capsules.”5 An earlier study6 involving 110 high school girls, mean age 13 years, again found fennel to be as effective as mefenamic acid with respect to addressing pain relief associated with primary dysmenorrhea. The study authors noted:7
Eighty percent of girls administered fennel and 73 percent of those receiving mefenamic acid experienced complete pain relief or a decrease in pain
Eighty percent of the girls in the fennel group and 62 percent of those in the mefenamic acid group no longer needed to rest due to PMS-related discomfort
Ginger Also Shown To Be Effective for Menstrual Discomfort

In terms of its usefulness for relieving menstrual cramping, studies focusing on ginger highlight its effectiveness at doses of just 250 mg when taken during the first few days of your period.8 One such study, published in Phytotherapy Research9 in 2015, sought to evaluate the usefulness of ginger on heavy menstrual bleeding in high school girls.
Ninety-two young women who experienced heavy bleeding during their menstrual cycle were evaluated for six consecutive menses, with one group receiving ginger and the other placebo capsules. The study authors said:10
“The decrease of blood loss in the ginger-receiving group was significantly more remarkable than that of participants receiving placebo. Considering the significance of appropriate and timely treatment … ginger may be considered as an effective therapeutic option for heavy menstrual bleeding.”
Another 2015 study11 involving a systematic review and meta-analysis of seven randomized clinical trials (RCTs) validated the use of ginger for the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea. About their findings, the researchers stated:
“Four of the RCTs compared the therapeutic efficacy of ginger with a placebo during the first three to four days of the menstrual cycle and were included in the meta-analysis. The meta-analysis of these data showed a significant effect of ginger in reducing pain visual analogue scores in subjects having primary dysmenorrhea.
Collectively these RCTs provide suggestive evidence for the effectiveness of 750 to 2000 mg of ginger powder during the first three to four days of menstrual cycle for primary dysmenorrhea.”
Essential Oils Can Also Help Soothe PMS
Here are a few recipes for essential oil blends designed to promote a sense of well-being around your monthly menstrual cycle. You can use them in a bath or as a massage oil:12,13,14
PMS Bath Blend: Mix 5 drops of clary sage, 2 to 3 drops of chamomile, 2 drops of geranium and 2 to 3 drops of lavender essential oil with 1 tablespoon of jojoba oil and a handful of Epsom salts and add to warm bathwater
PMS Hormonal Balance Blend: Mix 2 drops of clary sage, 1 drop of geranium and 1 drop of ylang ylang essential oil into 1 tablespoon of a carrier oil like coconut or jojoba oil and apply to your abdomen or low back as needed
Menstrual Massage Blend: Mix 5 drops of lavender, 5 drops of cypress, 10 drops of peppermint and 10 drops of nutmeg essential oil into 1 tablespoon of carrier oil and apply to your abdomen or low back as desired

HERE IS MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE::: Well, folks. Its been a week since i started giving Sierra the CBD OIL in place of her 20 mg Adderall 3X daily. I guess i should start this by telling you all that Sierra has ADD/ADHD/ & ODD. While the pills do work, they have horrible side effects, such as thoughts of suicide, depression, sleepiness,and not to mention the horrible mood swings, plus many more that i wont go into. Sierra isn’t quite 15 yet. She has always been on the Honers Roll and been a top student. However, she can sometimes be mean, both physically and emotionaly. I researched this product for months.
