Can’t Deny It, Who You Are Is What You’re Feeling
Word Count: 5685
Pairings: Demus, LAMP(and all variations thereof)
Janus is trying to settle into his new role as the makeup artist for a small off-off Broadway production, but he can't seem to figure out the relationships going on in the troupe, let alone what he has going on with the eccentric set designer...
AO3 Link
Janus squinted at the side of the stage. He should definitely be trying to make himself useful, it being only his second day, but he had just finished an eye test on Valerie and he was fairly certain he could pass off his staring as making sure it looked right where she stood in the spotlights. Hell, that’s what he’d been doing originally, before getting side tracked by the male lead sliding off the stage to the crafts table, where he’d sidled up to Patton, the costume designer Janus had met yesterday. Patton had beamed like Christmas had come early and promptly started breaking off pieces of his muffin to feed over his shoulder to the man who was now firmly attached to his back with his arms around his waist, visibly giggling the entire time. They looked carefree and besotted with each other in a way that made an ugly curl of envy build up in his stomach, but he couldn’t look away once he’d started. At least, until the props master interrupted him, that is.
“They’re tooth-rottingly sweet, huh?” Janus would deny the sound he made til his dying day, but he was fairly certain it could only be described as a yelp. The prop master cackled, holding their hand out to shake, which Janus took, grateful for the distraction. “Hey, it’s Janus right? I’m Talyn. Could you come back this way and give me a hand with moving some of these bigger pieces over to the wings for the next scene?”
“Oh sure Talyn, I don’t have anything until my next stage test in an hour or so,” he assured, carefully pasting a smile on his face that he hoped looked genuine.
Talyn threw a thumbs-up over their shoulder as they went towards the workshop and Janus took the opportunity to look back over at the crafts table where Valerie had now joined the two during a break and was laughing brightly as the actor playfully picked Patton up, throwing him over his shoulder to head over to the drinks table, and Janus could hear the shrieks even from his distance, “Rooooman, oh my goodness, you put me down right now, you big show-off!” Huh, so Mr. Leading-Man was named Roman. Good to know.
“You’re just so easy to toss around, Patton-cake. Maybe stop being so cute and I won’t be so tempted,” Roman shot back, opening a can of apple juice with an overexaggerated casualness.
“I’ll get you back for this, you heathen,” Patton cried, changing tactics to poking and tickling at Roman’s sides.
The laughter could still be heard even in the back wings of the auditorium where the workshop was, and Talyn had to raise their voice to be heard as they worked to finagle a fake-flower covered arch through the doorway, “Thanks for the help. The set designer, Remus, is out shopping for supplies today and he’s usually the one who actually moves this kind of stuff, but the director needs this for some sort of choreography today.”
“No problem at all,” Janus assured again, eager to prove his usefulness. “Happy to help when I can.”
By the time they finished getting the bulky prop to the proper side of the stage, the break was over, Roman was back onstage with Valerie, Patton had gone back to the far wings of the stage to continue working, and Janus had a new actor to meet and a fake scar to attempt to do in a transition that lasted less than 10 minutes.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Less than a week later and Janus once again found himself squinting to the side of the stage, but this time it was up higher in the sound and light booth. Actors were scattered throughout the theater, running lines with each other, and the Technical Director seemed to be taking the opportunity to work with the Lighting Technician on setting up a few cues. Nothing out of the ordinary, most of the productions Janus had worked on in school worked the same way, no, the interesting part was just how close the Technical Director was to the Lighting Technician in the booth as they worked. They seemed to be able to communicate without speaking at all, effortlessly moving around each other and flicking different settings and somehow coming out with the correct configuration without ever saying a word.
The ease around each other was palpable, and that was what caught Janus off guard. He’d worked with the TD, Logan, once, and that interaction had been succinct, professional, and brokered no nonsense. Now, though, Logan’s shoulders seemed to loosen up the more time he spent up in the lighting box, and every once in a while, when the technician was triple or quadruple checking a light, Janus could see the TD huff and roll his eyes teasingly, then dodge an equally teasing swat to his side or shoulder. And he’d smile , a real smile, not a smirk or a placating pleasantry, and Janus felt that nasty longing that was tinged green with jealousy snake up into his throat again.
He forced himself to look away, finally, just to see Roman sitting in the makeup chair looking thoroughly amused and he was suddenly glad he’d chosen to wear a full face of makeup today, not just covering his left side like usual, because now he could at least hope that his thick foundation would cover up the way his face flamed up at getting caught staring at a couple again . “Hello Roman, did you need something?” he asked, going to his workstation to avoid having to look at the actor’s smirking face anymore.
“Hmm? Oh. Yes, yes, yes, I did, I was wondering if I would be able to offer up my time for you to practice the second act’s possession effects, as I know you were saying it would be difficult to practice on a dummy, and I am much further ahead in my memorization than the others,” Roman rattled off, and when Janus turned back to him, he quickly averted his eyes from the lighting box. Hm, so apparently he wasn’t the only one looking, that was interesting…
“That would be great actually, thank you. Getting that pallid coloring done three times in one intermission is going to be tough unless I do it a few times ahead of the show, I appreciate it.” He brought his rolling cart over to the makeup chair and crouched in front of Roman, watching carefully without giving away that he was focused on anything other than the makeup. After the third time Roman’s eyes strayed towards the light box he decided to speak up, “What’s the lighting technician’s name? Haven’t met him yet.”
“Oh you mean Tall, Dark, and Moody? That’s Virgil, him and Logan grew up together so they’re pretty used to each other by now, it’s really great to watch them work,” Roman enthused, and that made more sense, Roman was just appreciating the well oiled machine. “We all send Logan up there when it looks like he’s ready to murder the next person to say ‘slightly behind schedule’. Or when Virge gets new cues and gets so overwhelmed he starts gnawing on that giant hoodie he’s always got on. They really good at chilling each other out.”
Janus absorbed all of this as he brushed a small test bit of gray over Roman’s cheek bones, mulling it over and ultimately content to just let Roman talk. By the time he was done with the ghostly sheen, he had learned that Logan, Virgil, Patton, and Roman all went to college together and all joined the budding troupe together straight afterwards, even though they all had offers for separate larger companies scattered across the country. It was clear that Roman would talk about his little group forever if he were allowed to, had spent almost 10 minutes alone enthusing about some cosplay work Patton did in college with this adorably smitten twinkle to his eye, but Janus had to let him up from the chair eventually. When he stepped back to admire his work, though, Roman didn’t make any moves to get up. “Spent all this time talking about us, how about you? What brings you to our humble little company instead of some larger agency?”
Janus startled a bit, not used to getting asked anything about himself. “I suppose I was intrigued by the premise of the play, and wanted to do more hands-on work than most agencies allow new graduates.” It wasn’t quite a lie, and Roman didn’t need to know that this particular theater had been Janus’s saving grace growing up, how he owed the owner, Thomas, everything, how…
“My brother is the exact same way. Not happy unless he has full, creative control over his sets,” Roman laughed, and Janus tilted his head curiously. “I mean it’s better that he has an outlet for his thoughts. You don’t wanna know what he gets like when you try to stifle him, woo boy. Much better he swing a hammer at the scenery than at my head.”
“It was a wiffle ball bat, I only hit you once, and you didn’t even have a concussion. And beside that, you practically dared me to.”
Janus spun so quickly his beanie tilted slightly, and he fidgeted with his gloves to hide the fact that his heart was racing, but his face remained carefully even, “Remus. Speak of the devil and he shall appear.” The man had a way of blending into the shadows until you least wanted him to jump out at you. Janus had been too startled to even react the first time, but Remus had taken it as though he wasn’t scared at all and was now determined to make him scream. Luckily, Janus had great experience controlling his expressions, the few times he’d been caught daydreaming observing relationships around the theater notwithstanding.”Were you looking for Roman or are you just here to bother me?”
Remus swooned dramatically, “Bother! You wound me! Nono, Joan sent me, they want Roman on stage to help Virgey-poo calibrate the acoustics after I, er, nudged one of the speakers over. Accidentally, of course.”
Roman rolled his eyes and scoffed, “You pissing Virgil off has never once been an accident. But I’ll head over there before Tickle-Me-Emo has a heart attack.” He turned to Janus, patting him on the back, “Good luck with him, don’t let him near anything sharp or he’ll try to cut his own bangs in the name of creating a new hairstyle.”
“I can handle him just fine,” Janus drawled, and pointedly ignored the suggestive look Remus gave him in return. Instead, he focused again up on the lighting box where Virgil seemed to be ranting, hands flying in front of his face, as Logan patiently listened. Roman finally got up on the stage and Virgil started messing with the sound board, forehead creased in concentration, and Janus pretended there wasn’t a tug in his heart when Logan leaned over to smooth the skin out just between his eyebrows with his thumb, earning himself a small but genuine smile, before heading back down to work.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Three weeks into rehearsals and Janus was really getting the hang of his new life. He and his roommate, Remy, the publicity manager for the theater, had moved into a new apartment closer to the theater with Remy’s boyfriend Emile, as between the three of them they could now afford more than what basically amounted to a shoebox. He’d made friends, something he’d thought was somewhat of a pipe dream before. He absolutely adored his job. Two to three times a day he would snag actors to do test runs of looks and see how they turned out on stage, tweaking things here and there when he could. The rest of the time he would help out around the theater, helping Logan with keeping Remus in line and on schedule(Remus would sometimes demand only Janus be allowed in his studio, and Janus had found that Remus was much more bearable when he felt he was paid attention to. Pleasant, even, if a little random and impulsive), shopping for props for Talyn, running lines with Valerie or Roman or Terrence or the background actors when the others were busy, or, most often, assisting Patton in costuming.
Apparently, Patton was supposed to have an assistant but they’d had a family emergency and Patton had brushed off the idea of trying to find someone else on short notice. Janus had noticed, of course, that Patton came in earlier and stayed later than almost anyone else and so he went out of his way to help where he could. He had some basic sewing experience and worked well as a sounding board for Patton to bounce his ideas off of while he worked, and Janus was thrilled to be able to be helpful. He had also noticed Patton was more willing to take breaks if he thought Janus needed one and Janus was not above being a bit dramatic with his yawns to get Patton to relax for a few minutes. He’d become fond of the guy.
He’d just gone to the craft table to grab something Patton would eat, intending to goad him into taking 15 minutes off. He’d gotten a bit sidetracked when Remus decided to “stumble” into him, leaving a large forest-green handprint right in the center of his chest and loudly declare that he needed to take it off (Janus made a note in his head to spend the next day in his workshop, he was definitely looking for attention, and he was missing the rowdier man a bit besides), but he had still only been gone about 20 minutes, so he was surprised when he heard another voice coming from the sewing room aside from Patton. “- and we need to make sure Valerie’s weighted dress is done before next Wednesday, she needs to rehearse the choreography with the added material-”
“Lolo, relax. I’ll get it done, I promise,” came Patton’s voice, light and almost teasing in a way Janus had never heard before. He’d almost describe it as… flirtatious? But that didn’t make any sense… “You’re starting to sound like Virgil with all that fretting. You know me, you know I never break a promise.”
“Y-yes,” and now Logan sounded flustered, which really was out of character, “Of course, Patton, I just wanted to make sure you had all the resources you needed and were not overextending yourself-”
Patton cut him off again, and this time Janus got the impression he was very amused, “I’ve got everything I need, right here, Mr. Berry. I even promise I’ll do something to relax tonight, sound good? Pick up a bottle of wine and have a night in, maybe watch a movie, something to really decompress…” Janus got the distinct feeling he was missing something, because Patton was speaking as though he had a completely different meaning behind the words, but they seemed completely innocent.
Janus finally decided to head into the studio then, feeling like he’d been eavesdropping on something private, and when he saw Patton he was leaning against his desk casually, no indication in his body language at all that he’d been flirting like Janus thought he’d heard. He thought maybe he’d been mistaken, but Logan was adjusting his tie even though the knot was perfect, like always, and had a very faint pink to his cheeks that he would have missed if he weren’t paying attention. He lightly cleared his throat before speaking, “Hello Janus. I was just heading out. Thank you for assisting Patton with keeping to the deadlines, it is much appreciated. Patton, we can continue our discussion later.” Patton smiled brightly, looking like the picture of innocence, and waved as Logan headed back towards Remus’s workshop and Janus repressed a wince. Yeah, he’d definitely visit tomorrow if Logan was going to get on his case about deadlines too.
He pasted a smile on, making sure not to indicate he’d heard anything before coming in, “Hey Pat, I grabbed some cookies and tea from the craft table. Remus sends his regards.” He gestured wryly to the graphic tee shirt he held in his hands, still grateful he’d worn an undershirt today.
Patton beamed and took a cookie, looking all the more innocent when he bounced a bit on his toes, curls catching in the light as they moved with him, “Woo! You rock, we definitely earned a few cookies today!” He tilted his head curiously at the stain, then nodded like he’d decided something, “I can definitely get that out, by the way, just need some vinegar and washing soda. Re does stuff like that to Roman all the time. Leave it with me and it’ll be perfectly fine by tomorrow!”
Janus smiled again, feeling taken care of in a way he hadn’t in a long time, and it felt more real this time, “Thanks Patton.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Janus was making good on his promise to himself the next day, lounging on a chair next to the open door of Remus’s workshop even though it was technically his day off. He came into the theater every day no matter what just in case anyone needed assistance, but it was nice to not feel guilty for not doing his own work. He people-watched between the points where Remus would ask for his opinion on a piece or start up a seemingly unrelated conversation, letting the silence fall when Remus needed to focus. He’d been watching Virgil up in the tech box, messing with the settings for the lighting of one of Valerie’s solo scenes while she rehearsed. He had that focused crease in his brow again but he didn’t look nearly as murderous as when Remus screwed around with his speakers, so Janus didn’t feel the need to get Logan yet, but when the door opened behind the engineer he’d still been expecting the technical director to come in.
What happened instead was much more confounding to Janus. Patton burst through the door, looking worn down and cranky, and paced the room a few times with his hands waving around. Virgil took his headphones off without turning around and nodded along, not breaking focus at all but still responding from what Janus could see. Then, seemingly out of steam, the costume designer maneuvered around cords and computers over to Virgil’s chair and promptly ducked under his arm and threw a leg over Virgil’s before burrowing his face into Virgil’s neck. Virgil didn’t flinch at all, continuing to focus on the lighting of the scene by simply arranging Patton slightly on his lap so he could tuck his own head over his shoulder.
At some point in the performance on stage, Valerie and the director aimed a thumbs up at the light box, and Virgil gave a self satisfied smile as he leaned back and finally wrapped his arms around Patton in return.
“Jannie?” Remus called, sitting back from his stage setting, a beautiful star-lit grove, “Do you think you could make me look like a werewolf?”
Janus blinked at him for a couple moments, not knowing how to respond, before he just shrugged, “Sure. Might look a little weird with your mustache though.”
Remus nodded, once, with finality to it, “How about a tentacle monster?”
“Same answer,” Janus replied, quicker this time now that he knew where Remus’s head was at.
“Huh. I think I’d like to try being a tentacle monster at some point. Could probably terrify the shit outta Roman. Not to mention all the benefits of tentacles.”
Janus laughed, charmed as always by Remus’s ability to just say whatever he felt like without hiding anything, “You name the time and place and I’ll be there, Remus.”
Remus gave him a blinding smile and Janus felt his breath catch a bit. God, this whole thing was so stupid but he couldn’t bring himself to care at all. He found that he’d do just about anything to make Remus smile like that again. “It’s really nice to have a partner in crime now,” Remus enthused, twirling his paintbrush without a care in the world if he splashed himself with paint.
“Yeah, Re, I get what you mean.”
By the time Remus had gone back to work splattering a blood stain artfully over a tree in the middle of the otherwise beautiful landscape, Patton had left the tech box and Virgil was back to his computer with his headphones on.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was one week til opening night, and Janus had been sent to find Remus, who had apparently announced he was going on a quest for inspiration which alarmed pretty much everyone who knew him, but instead he’d stumbled upon Logan, alone in the orchestra pit, looking like he was ready to scream as he tugged at the padlock on a crate. Janus made his way over and tapped Logan on the shoulder lightly, “Hey, everything alright?”
Logan’s eyes were fiery as he responded, and Janus was just a little bit taken aback, “The previous production group left the alternate curtain ropes in this container, nicely labeled and everything, except the box has this godforsaken lock and I do not want to have to pay for bolt cutters. Or have the time to buy them before dress rehearsals. It’s rather… infuriating.”
Janus laughed a bit and knelt down next to the box, pulling his wallet out of his back pocket and taking a long thin piece of metal out, “You don’t have to do that, rotation locks like this are ridiculously easy to pick.” He manipulated the piece of metal up under the last rotation dial and pressed up, trying to listen for the click even though Roman and Valerie were rehearsing their final duet up on stage. He finally got the lock to pop open and turned to show it to Logan, only to find him thoroughly distracted by the scene on the stage.
Janus could understand, he had no interest in Roman Prince( his brother on the other hand...) but even he thought the way he was waltzing Valerie around the stage was a bit hypnotizing, the lyrics soft and sultry and romantic for the final number of the performance. Logan seemed to be completely entranced, singing along under his breath to Valerie’s piece and following their movements carefully. His eyes were filled with nothing short of adoration as he swayed to the music and as Janus watched carefully, the movements matched up fairly evenly to Valerie’s part in the dance as well. Logan didn’t look away until the director had called for a cut for adjustments. He shook himself slightly, seeming to remember all of a sudden that Janus was there, and flushed brightly as he took the lock from Janus, “Oh. Um. Thank you, very much. Where did you learn to pick locks like that?”
Janus could practically envision his mask slipping into place, covering the memories of manipulating the door to the theater open for what must have been the hundredth time only to come face to face with the new owner…
“Oh it’s barely a party trick, just something I picked up along the line. Let me know if you need any more street-rat techniques,” he brushed off with a wry grin, waving a hand dismissively, “Anywho, any chance you’ve seen Remus around?”
Logan eyed him a bit critically for a moment then seemed to choose not to push it further, “Yes, I believe I saw him lurking back by your station actually.”
Janus repressed a disappointed sigh at himself. Of course, Remus had come looking for him if something had upset him. He took off for the makeup room quickly, leaving Logan behind to stare up at the stage again while Roman began rehearsing the solo piece of the song. He didn’t miss the small wink Roman aimed down at the pit when the director had turned to answer a question, and filed that bit of information away with Logan’s admiring gaze to analyze after he’d made sure Remus was alright.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Janus was not used to anyone being in his station before him, but he was starting to become used to being surprised, so he didn’t even really react to seeing Roman and Virgil commandeering one of his makeup chairs, Roman’s hands buried in Virgil’s long black and purple hair, twisting it into intricate braids as they argued fiercely. “No, Virge, you don’t get to say ‘American Idiot’ is your favorite Broadway song. That doesn’t count.”
“It totally counts. You wouldn’t say ‘Honey, Honey’ doesn’t count, even though that’s just an ABBA song!”
“Don’t you dare bring Mamma Mia into this, that is a classic!”
“So is American Idiot!”
“Girls, girls, you’re both pretty,” Janus droned, smiling at the Venti Iced Mocha sitting on his rolling tray, ice not even melted yet, with a little doodle of a green dragon blowing fire at what he could only assume was Roman on one side, and a python wearing Janus’s signature beanie on the other. Virgil and Roman both turned to glare at him and he smirked back, lounging back in his chair and taking a long sip from his coffee in a loose impression of Remy, “What are you two doing in my domain aside from attempting to drive each other up the wall?”
“Princey was having a minor meltdown about opening night tomorrow, so I told him he could braid my hair,” Virgil told him, squinting curiously at the cup like he was trying to make out what the doodles were.
“Not true! Virgil was freaking out about opening night, not me, and he asked me to braid his hair,” Roman whined, though Janus noted that the whole time Roman’s hands never stopped moving and Virgil seemed to lean further and further into them, both their shoulders relaxing more and more as the braids took a more concrete form, “Though I will admit it is somewhat of a ritual for us at this point. Been doing this since freshman year of college when Virge first started growing his hair out.”
“Barely had enough for one braid back then, you would just do it and take it out over and over again while I ran lines with you,” Virgil commented fondly, fidgeting with the end of a piece which was left down.
“And I didn’t have the skills which I do now, of course.”
“Oh, no doubt. Maybe I’ll cut it so you could test that theory.”
“Don’t you dare!” Janus looked up from his thank you text to Remus(he’d responded with a giant squid emoji, followed by a dirty joke about proper thank yous which Janus found unreasonably funny), tilting his head curiously at Virgil’s smirk and Roman’s blush. “I-I mean, it’s your hair, obviously, but it definitely suits you being grown out.”
“Alright, alright, I’ll leave it be. Just for you,” Virgil shot back, and Janus felt like he could see the years of friendship in his smile.
Roman and Virgil stuck around for another hour until the director got there, ribbing each other over everything from music preference to sleeping habits to, bizarrely, the dark undertones of Disney movies, not even noticing when Janus slipped off to Remus’s workshop to have his own minor meltdown about opening night, lost in their own little world.
(Remus already had a hammer and some messed-up pottery out, actually encouraged him to smash stuff, cheering him on enthusiastically, and Janus thought he might have found his own pre-show ritual. He didn’t even realize he hadn’t felt envious of Roman and Virgil’s easy camaraderie and teasing affection at all until he was lying in bed that night.)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Janus made a downright embarrassing shriek when he felt a mustache rub against his neck and Terrence broke off from their conversation to the living room with a playful eye roll, leaving the other two in the kitchen. “Come on Re, don’t start anything you can’t finish in public,” he teased lightly, patting Remus on the cheek, the adrenaline rush from three successful shows, the pure joy at being officially offered a full time position within the theater troupe from Thomas (from Thomas , who took a chance on the high school dropout who snuck in to the theater to use the big mirrors and the real theater makeup and listen to music echo through the empty stage. Thomas who so generously gave him the recommendation letter he needed to get the scholarship to cosmetology school. Thomas who found him a roommate so he wouldn’t have to stay with an older brother that didn’t understand him at all. Thomas who had seen his talent for deception and pushed him to turn it into art. Thomas who Janus owed his entire life to...) and the three vodka sodas in his system making it difficult to even begin to hide his flirtation, especially since he was fairly confident at this point he wouldn’t be rebuffed.
He felt more than heard the laugh that followed as Remus pulled away, still leaving his arms wrapped around Janus’s waist, a testament to the comfortable something (Janus refused to call it a relationship, even in his head, lest he burst the perfect bubble of happiness) they’d fallen into, “Come on Jan, you can’t deprive me of finally getting revenge on my brother for the years of cast-party-brand PDA he’s put me through.”
Janus stiffened and he turned to face Remus quickly, bracing himself on Remus’s chest when he started to trip a bit out of tipsiness. He also blamed the tipsiness for his lack of ability to cover up his curiosity, “PDA? What do you mean? I’ve spent the last 6 weeks trying to figure out who would end up with who in that group, but Roman’s already seeing someone?”
Remus smirked at him, clearly enjoying a less-inhibited Janus, and didn’t audibly answer. Instead, he laced their fingers together(Janus was not blushing like he was a middle-schooler. He wasn’t. If his foundation just so happened to help hide that lie then so be it.) and led him back towards the living room where a particularly rowdy game of beer pong was being played with Logan and Virgil on one side with only one cup in front of them and Joan and Talyn on the other with two, all four of them looking like a giant weight was off their shoulders with the last show of the first weekend over and done with and four whole days before the next one. Patton and Roman stood behind Logan and Virgil’s side, alternating between making ridiculous and distracting movements and singing along to whatever was playing through the speakers. The other team missed both their shots and Virgil snagged the balls, handing one to Logan before holding the other behind him. Patton leaned in and blew on the ball, then leaned further to press a kiss to Virgil’s cheek with a visible giggle while Roman mimicked his motions with Logan. Oh, ok, that kinda made sense for how the pairings worked out, he supposed…
Janus’s head tilted in confusion as Roman and Patton promptly switched positions and repeated their actions before they actually fell back. Logan and Virgil then glanced at each other from the corners of their eye, smirked, and sent both balls flying in unison. They didn’t even circle the rim, sinking easily, and the room erupted in chants to “chug” that Joan and Talyn took good naturedly on one knee as they emptied their cups.
Janus wasn’t watching the prop master and stage manager, though, instead focused on where Logan had apparently flung himself into Virgil’s arms in celebration, wrapped his legs around his waist, and promptly kissed him like he was trying to devour him, glasses tilted with no attempt being made to adjust them. Patton laughed brightly and tugged on Virgil’s sleeve to bring them both over to the couch with a practiced ease that said this was a fairly regular occurrence, Roman practically skipping as he followed. Logan transferred to Roman’s lap once they were settled, kissing him with the same amount of barely-restrained hunger, and Patton took his place in Virgil’s, pressing small kisses up his throat at the same time as he hooked his pinky with Logan’s and nudged his feet under Roman’s thigh, at which point Janus looked away, blushing furiously at just how shameless they all were.
He turned back to Remus with wide eyes just to find him openly laughing at him, “How long have you spent trying to figure that out, hm? For someone so smart you’re kinda a dumbass sometimes.”
Janus pouted, still feeling flustered and embarrassed that he’d somehow missed the idea of polyamory, but in the back of his mind he was delighted that the angry green jealous monster was no longer clawing at his insides at seeing so much open affection. He finally had someone who replaced that nasty curl with fluttering butterflies. Someone who gave a shit about him, and who was darkly hilarious and creative and didn’t hide anything but didn’t push Janus to be completely open in return. Someone Janus could truly see a future with, someone he felt he could trust.
He made a calculated decision, and his mouth turned up in a smirk as he grabbed Remus’s wrist and tugged him over to the pong table, “Tell you what, Re-Re. You help me win and you can have as much revenge as you want.”
Remus’s eyes went dark but his smile was blinding, “And if we lose?”
Janus grinned back, sharp and wicked, and easily sunk his first ball despite Remy’s boyfriend Emile jumping around ridiculously on the other side, “Guess you’ll just have to keep up so we don’t.” Remus’s grin widened even further at the challenge and he nodded resolutely, focus zeroed in.
For all the talk of revenge, they didn’t even notice Roman’s indignant squawk when Remus pinned Janus to the wall before Remy could even take the last cup off the table.

Codas for SDCC Trailers: Undeniable Patterns
Today, I want to talk about the coda. In the S9 SDCC trailer we just got, it’s Rosita and Eugene hiding from the Whisperers. Naturally, this spurred all kinds of thoughts in my head. So here they are!
Since S4, all of the official, SDCC trailers have had a coda. I’m referring to is after the trailer says, “The Walking Dead” and the date the season premiere will air, there’s another few seconds of scenes. We refer to that as the coda because it's what comes after the end. (Of course we didn't start calling it that until after 5x08 aired, but whatever. ;D)
In the S4 trailer, the coda had to do with Terminus. It was Daryl, Michonne, Tyreese, and Bob in the car when they heard Terminus broadcasting.
In the S5 Trailer, and most significant to TD, the coda was Beth at Grady, being beaten by Dawn (5x04).
The S6 was Daryl out in the woods when he met Dwight (it came from 6x06).
The S7 coda was Tara, discovering Oceanside (7x07).
The S8 coda was what I always referred to as Rick’s Old man Coda. We saw it in both 8x01 and again 8x08 when we found out it was actually Carl’s vision. This one is slightly different. But don’t worry, it will still follow the same pattern.
Now, in the S9 trailer, Eugene and Rosita are hiding from the Whisperers.
We always want to relate the coda of the trailer to Beth, somehow. And, while most of the situations in the trailer codas do have something to do with her, or at least are very heavy on Beth symbolism, because she hasn't actually returned yet, we can't relate them to her for sure (with the exception of S5, of course, because she WAS the coda). But something is occurred to me that's kind of interesting.
In every single one of these cases, the episode the coda is pulled from ends up introducing a new group or community. (S4 = Terminus, S5 = Grady, S6 = Dwight/Saviors, S7 = Oceanside, S8 = Carl’s vision of what the new world/new communities would look like. So slightly different, but still in the same vein.)
Also, in the episode the scenes from the coda trailers come from, it’s really more of an introduction to the new group/community, and they aren’t dealt with in a big way until later. Most times, they show up again in the season finale, and are carried over into the next season. But sometimes they aren’t dealt with at all until the next season.
So, in 4x03, they heard Terminus broadcasting, but we didn’t actually get to Terminus until 4x16 (finale) and then it carried over into S5.
In S5, 5x04 was intro to Grady, and they dealt with it again fairly quickly after (the MSF) but I’m gonna submit that Grady was a little different (I’ll come back to why in a minute).
In 6x06, we were introduced to the Saviors, saw them again briefly in 6x09, but didn’t meet them in a big way until Negan showed up in 6x16 (finale).
Then of course it carried over for two seasons, in s7 and S8.
In 7x06 we were introduced to Oceanside, and didn’t see it for the rest of the season. TF at large didn’t arrive at Oceanside until S7, and then it, also, carried over to S8.
Finally, with S8, we saw it in 8x01, but didn’t really understand what we were seeing (introduction), saw it again in the MSF, but didn’t actually see the end of it until 8x16 when Rick sat under the tree with the plate glass windows. And because Negan is still alive, and the communities didn’t actually do all the rebuilding from Carl’s vision in S8, it will carry over into S9 as well.
Also notice that each time they encounter the new group in the coda, they lose another character in a big way. Not in the scenes of the coda trailer when the new group is introduced, but when TF actually encounters them.
So, Daryl didn’t lose Beth when TF got to Terminus in 4x16, but he’d lost her RIGHT before that.
In S5, when they got to Grady, they lost Beth again, in a much bigger way.
In S6, when Negan showed up, Glenn and Abraham died.
In S7, when Tara discovered Oceanside, Heath disappeared. (So the loss can be death or disappearance, per Beth in S4 and Heath in S7).
In s8, obviously it was Carl.
(Quick aside: actually, the case of the Saviors is really protracted and complicated. Because they’re such long-running enemies—introduced in S6, not “beaten” until S8 and still kinda going in S9—the pattern is repeated in many places for them. You could argue we had two, if not three introductions to the Saviors. When Daryl meets Dwight in 6x06, Tina is lost. Not a huge character, but still, she dies. And of course she was a Beth proxy. They met a group of Saviors in 6x09, and it was the Saviors themselves that Daryl took out with the rocket launcher. The next “intro” to the Saviors was when Dwight showed up and killed Denise. A much bigger character and loss, especially where Daryl was concerned. But it still fits the pattern because when TF at large met the Saviors in a big way in 6x16, we had two of the biggest deaths of the series, Glenn and Abraham. Just wanted to point out the details here.)
And these aren’t the only deaths, either. Bob died as a result of the Termites. Tina and Denise as a result of the Saviors. Later, also Sasha. So I’m sure we could find more intricate patterns in this.
So what’s my point in telling you all this? A couple of things.
1.Beth (naturally ;D)
I said Grady was a little different. The ways in which it’s different are things TD has been pointing out for years, but let’s reiterate them here for the sake of the pattern.
With each of the new communities that are introduced in trailer coda scenes, we usually get a very in-depth look at them before TF moves on from them. We see either their inner workings, or their history, or both. So with Terminus, we had the “Then/Now” flashbacks in 5x01. With the Saviors, well, we had a very in-depth, two-season look at their organization. Many characters (Daryl, Carl, Eugene, Sasha) ended up on the inside so we could see exactly what the organization was and how it was run. With Oceanside, Tara was on the inside, which helped us see it up close. We had a pretty good idea of what it was and what was happening there. And we got at least an oral history of what happened to these women and how they ended up where they did.
But Grady was different. We got a little bit of oral history through Dr. Edwards and Dawn, but not tons. And Grady was never as transparent as these other communities. They never showed us EXACTLY what was going on there. Were they working on a cure? How, exactly, did the ward system work?
We can work a lot of it out by deduction, but they gave us all these tantalizing clues and weird dialogue that they never explained. So again, Grady was different
2. The other big thing is that each of these communities was taken down by TF in some way. Terminus was burnt out and knocked on it’s butt. When the Termites followed TF, they were killed. With the Saviors, after an actual war, Negan was taken down, and the Saviors are no longer a “power” in the area. Just another part of the community. So the Sanctuary, as it existed before, is no longer running. Even Oceanside, though it wasn’t burned or anything, was still “taken down” by TF. They overpowered everyone there in S7 and took all their guns. Then in S8, they joined the war.
But once again, Grady is different. TF may have taken down Dawn, but they didn’t destroy the community, as they did Terminus, nor integrate it’s residents into their group, as they did with the Saviors and Oceanside. So Grady doesn’t really fit the pattern. At least, not yet.
So I’m gonna submit (and I don’t think this will be much of a stretch for anyone on TD) that everything we saw of Grady in 5a was simply part of the introduction. It’s obvious to me that we haven’t seen the second part of this pattern, where TF “deals” with the community in a more final way, either by taking it down violently or by integrating the people from it into their own community.
Most of us think both will happen with Grady. With some variations, most of us think Beth will take down Grady or at least be present at it’s take-down (TF may not be there, but then again there is a theory that in the flash where she’s running in her yellow polo, the arm we see next to her might be Daryl’s, so…).
And if she shows up leading people from Grady (Dr. Edwards, the remaining cops, etc) then they will be integrated into Rick’s community as well. Just saying.
And think about it: TF encountering the community in a big way and losing someone, as they did with Grady in 5x08, DOES fit the pattern,
but it lines up in the other instances with 4x16, 6x16, 7x06 and 8x08. In each other instance, TF deals with the community again after that, sometimes for several seasons, and it ends in a much more final way. So I think it’s safe to say that we haven’t seen the end of Grady yet (which we all thought anyway) and that this is why we saw it in the coda of the S5 trailer.
3. Another observation: the next, most obvious questions the skeptics will ask is why it’s taking so long to get the second half. I’m sure they’ll argue that none of the stories around other communities in the trailer codas took this long to finish. They would be correct about that. So, doesn’t that argue against this theory? Why would they take so long to finish THIS story (Beth’s/Grady’s) as opposed to the others?
My answer could be super-long-winded and go into Beth being the new sheriff and needing to disappear for a while (I have more thoughts on that coming up that have to deal with the board games featured in the Governor’s S4 episodes. Yes, you read that right. Yes, it’s also very random. Go back and watch those episodes to see if you can figure it out. I’ll be posting about it either later this week or early next week) but I won’t go into all that.
What I will say is this: none of the other stories, except Beth’s/Grady’s, have an actual episode called Coda to send them off with.
TF thought they were finished with the Termites in 5x01, but they weren’t. There was a coda to the story where the Termites showed up again a few episodes later, and had to be dealt with in a more final way.
Daryl might have thought the Saviors were good and dealt with after blowing them up in 6x09, but not. Lots more story and big interactions with the Saviors after that.
Tara totally planned on being done with Oceanside after 7x06. She promised she’d keep their location a secret, and fully meant to keep that promise. But things changed. So there was more story to come. A coda. But in none of these situations was there an episode called Coda when TF encountered the community and lost someone.
As I said, we had the intro to Grady through Beth in 5x04. Them going to Grady and losing her was the next part of the pattern, but the sequence didn’t finish. Instead, they called the episode Coda. Now, TD has analyzed the crap out of that title ever since the episode aired, but for purposes of this post, I think the title serves two purposes.
1) They had to tell us there would be a coda because, unlike the rest of these stories, the rest of the pattern wouldn’t play out in the next handful of episodes. Or even the next handful of seasons for that matter. So TD has always interpreted that title correctly. We always knew there would be more to come.
2) I think the fact that all the stories had codas, but Beth’s included an episode called Coda shows that her arc is the big cheese. The grand-daddy of codas will be with this story line. It will take many seasons to come to pass, but that’s the whole point. This story is all about coming back, second chances, resurrections, etc. People thought Merle was dead in S1. Nope. Coda in S3. They thought Morales was long gone. Nope. Tiny coda in S8. Many people still think Heath won’t be back. No freakin’ way, people. This show doesn’t leave loose ends like that. See what I mean? This is a huge theme of the show, and Beth’s/Grady’s arc will be the biggest embodiment of it.
And once again, I’m hugely encouraged by the fact that Angela Kang worked so heavily on Beth’s story line, wrote Coda, named the episode Coda, and now, when everything else points to Beth’s return, Kang has become the show runner.
Okay, this has all been about Beth, but just a couple of thoughts about the actual coda for S9 (Rosita and Eugene hiding from the Whisperers).
1) Following the pattern, chances are this will be an introduction to the Whisperers (or whatever they’re called in the show ;D). No way to know what episode this will take place in, but given that the trailer generally covers mostly the first few episodes of the season, chances are it will be early on in S9. Definitely part of 9a. If it follows the pattern closely, chances are Rosita and Eugene will encounter them in this scene, but escape. Then TF won’t encounter them in a big way until 9x16 (the finale) and it will carry over into S10.
Why does that matter? For one, I just want to see if I’m right and how closely it adheres to the pattern. But this is also why I’m not sure I trust reports of the second time jump (5-6 years). I’m truly not totally against it where Beth is concerned. At this point, if they’re gonna bring her back, it won’t matter how much time passes. They’ll still do it. Maybe it won’t be in the way we originally wanted, and maybe it will take more time than we want, but both those things are already true.
My issue is that I just don’t see them introducing the Whisperers through Rosita and Eugene in 9a, and then waiting five years for TF to deal with them. That just doesn’t seem logical to me. And I could be wrong, of course, but I just don’t really trust that report. Even the spoiler site who has “confirmed” it already said regarding Rick’s death that they think they’re receiving purposely misleading reports, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
2. If S9 is not really about the Whisperers (just an intro to them) then what the hell will it be about?
Obviously somewhat about fighting between the communities and trying to establish everything. And of course there are the reports of Rick’s death, and possibly Maggie’s (which suspiciously everyone was completely silent about at Comic Con). But even that doesn’t seem like enough to fill an entire season. So…maybe the return of a certain blond and the rest of the pattern for Grady? Just saying. ;D
I've said this before, but if S9 follows the template from S4, and the trailer is convincing me more and more that it will, then there's going to be some other thing that's occupying team family. In 4a, it was the virus. Maybe here it will be these conflicts between the communities, and the possible uprising of a small faction against Rick. But I think, like the virus, that will be pretty small potatoes, and may be completely solved by 9×08.
In fact, if they follow the pattern the template of the governor's storyline, it might be a matter of that conflict being over by episode 5. Hopefully by then Beth will appear, and the next two episodes, just like the governor in S4, will be her back story. All that will take up 9A. And of course Rick will be departing at some point. I still kind of think that he won’t actually go until the MSF.
Keep in mind that 4b was all about the characters dealing with the emotion of what happened in 4a: the tragedy of the prison falling and Hershel’s death. And 4b was where Bethyl became a thing in Still. So here’s hoping 9b will follow that same pattern.
Final observation (I promise!):
Look at this picture of Eugene and Rosita.
Does it strike you as something we’ve seen before? This is going to be another example of Bethyl’s Side by Side arc, guys. Remember this edit?
That would be significant to me either way, and I won’t attempt to over-analyze it until we actually see this episode, but I thought about it after watching the trailer, and two things jump out at me as very significant.
1) I really haven’t thought about this theme other than in passing for the past two seasons. Anyone want to guess why? Because we really haven’t SEEN it in the past two seasons. Unless there’s an instance I missed (let me know if you can think of one, but with the emphasis on the action of the war, I really don’t think there’s been one) the last time we saw this theme was in S6. And that was huge because we saw it twice in 6x06, Always Accountable. First, with Daryl and the walker lying next to his bike, who so obviously represented Beth.
Then again in the burnt out GREENhouse, just before Tina (Beth proxy) died right in front of Daryl.
So we had this theme represented in season 4, 5, and 6. Then it disappeared for two seasons. Now, with all the other stuff I’ve said above, and all the hope and evidence we have for S9, and Angela Kang being show runner, suddenly this theme is reappearing. Hmm. That makes me super excited!
2) It’s reappearing in conjunction with the Whisperers. We haven’t heard the word, “Whisperers” used on the show yet, but we have heard the Wolves. I guess we’ll be finding out if this theory is correct pretty soon in S9, but I still think the Wolves and the Whisperers may be one and the same in the show.
To explain why this is significant, let’s revisit the instance of the Side by Side theme in S5. It always seemed really random to me. In 5x13, Forget, when Rick, Daryl and Carol meet secretly to talk about stealing guns from Alexandria’s arsenal, it shows this:
It’s a male and female. The female, significantly, has been shot in the forehead. When I first saw this, I wracked my brain trying to figure out the significance of showing during this episode and scene. Did it have to do with the guns? Alexandria? What? Beth obviously didn’t return in 5b. It took me a while to figure it out, but I think it has to do with the wolves.
These two dead walkers don’t have Ws on their foreheads that I can see, but it’s right after this that Daryl notices the W on the forehead of the walker Carol kills.
So it’s kind of a mini introduction to the Wolves, through the marks they leave on the forehead. (Then, later in the season, 5x15, we see the blond walker on the tree who looks like Beth, who’s face Daryl looks into as if to make sure it’s not her, and she has a W on her forehead.)
But if we look at the sequence in 5x13, we have Daryl waiting for a walker to reach them, and we see the side-by-side theme, and then a representation of the Wolves. Now, in S9, we have a representation of the side-by-side theme (Rosita and Eugene) and the “Ws” are returning. See how this was a foreshadow?
By extension, this side-by-side theme started with Beth and Daryl in S4 (4x10, Inmates) which is why we’ve always linked it to them. So it could be an indication that Beth will return with the Wolves/Whisperers as well. Just saying.
Aside: Sorry but I gotta add one more thing. While getting the pic on the previous slide, I rewatched this scene where Daryl, Rick and Carol talk. Everything in it is a foreshadow. Not of Beth, but of what happens with the wolves in 6x02.
At first, they can’t see the walker but can hear it growling. Daryl says, “I can’t see it, but it’s close.” That was also true of the wolves at this point in the story, but TF didn’t know it. He also says, “it’s just one of them.” Obviously there was more than one wolf in 6x02, but I think that’s code for it being a small amount, not all of the wolves that attacked. (Hence, we will see them again.)
When the walker shows up, Daryl says, “I got it,” but Carol tells him to wait and shoots it herself. Her reasoning is their cover story for leaving Alexandria was Daryl and Rick were going to teach her to shoot, so she needed to not come back with a full clip. But think about it: Daryl & Rick didn’t fight the Wolves. They were outside the walls when it happened. Who took down the wolves almost single-handedly? Carol. So this was a foreshadow of what would take place in 6x02.
But that just gives this theory more credence. Everything in that scene meant something. Foreshadowed something. And nothing in 6x02 in any way explains the reason for this Bethyl side-by side theme. Okay, I think I’m done now. ;D
Incidentally, the side-by-side theme happens most often with a male and female who are love interests. Not always, but most often. That MAY indicate that Eugene and Rosita’s relationship will go the way of the comic books, now.
So these have been my many and sprawling thoughts about the trailer coda. And you thought the coda was meant to be short! ;D

Yikes.
Before you get any further than this, stop. Grab a beverage. You may need it.
Losing sucks. Losing is the House. The House always wins; your team will eventually lose. And the loss, the one loss, will hurt more than all the other wins, until you win again. The cycle resets. In your heart, you believe your team will never lose again. Losing is the inevitable outcome of sports. But losing is necessary. Losing is perspective. Pain, as a sports fan, is vital. Without 2012, 2013 isn’t quite as magical.
I’ve been on twitter long enough to know that Auburn fans love suffering, and love to argue about suffering, and love to compare bad experiences. We all believe we have it worse than the next fan. And Auburn fans? Well, Auburn fans have seen their share of suffering. Let’s take a stroll down memory lane and visit some of the most brutal losses in Auburn football history.
Criteria:
To date (May, 2020), Auburn football has participated in 1,268 games. To make this super exclusive list, the Auburn team must qualify for all three of the following criteria:
Auburn Lost: this may seem obvious, but to make this list, Auburn must have lost the game in question. Otherwise, 2015 Jax State would definitely be making an appearance. That game was terrible, horrible, no good, and very bad. But Auburn won, technically, so we’ll move on. Games are weighted by margin of defeat. Games remaining: 445
Auburn must have been ranked: if you have ever visited twitter dot com, you are aware that everyone loves to dump on the AP poll. Myself included. However, they typically do a decent job at identifying the good teams from the bad. Being ranked does carry weight, especially among the fan base. Be honest, our own expectations are significantly increased when Auburn is a Top 10 team. This will eliminate games prior to 1936. Apologies to your great great grandparents. Games are weighted by rank: Top 10 Auburn teams will be weighted higher than Auburn teams ranked 11-25. Games remaining: 118
Auburn must have been a double digit favorite: This is the key. While the AP poll is somewhat good at evaluating strengths, Vegas is really, really good at evaluating strengths. Those casino high rises didn’t build themselves. In 2019, Vegas favorites went 540-184-11 (.742) straight up. Double digit favorites went 423-40 (.914) straight up. If Auburn was ranked as a double digit favorite, we were all confident at kickoff. This will eliminate games prior to the late 1980’s. I’m sure spreads existed back then, but it is very difficult to find them online. Games are weighted by spread: the larger the spread, the more brutal. Games remaining: 14
So here we are. Last chance to turn around. Maybe take a moment, top off that beverage. Hug a loved one. Take in some fresh air. Whatever it takes to get through the next few paragraphs.
The 14 most brutal Auburn losses, ranked from least brutal to most brutal:
14. 1986 Georgia
Final Score: L, 16-20
Auburn Rank: 9
Spread: Auburn -10.5
I’m putting this here for a couple of reasons.
Auburn’s undefeated 1986 campaign had already been ruined by Florida in Gainesville two weeks earlier. Still, a win would have given Auburn at least a share of the SEC title.
However, I was born a few years after this game was played. I can’t put this kind of loss into perspective. Sorry. Feel free to tell me all the reasons I’m wrong below, though!
13. 1991 Southern Miss
Final Score: L, 9-10
Auburn Rank: 16
Spread: Auburn -12.5
Similar to a couple of games below, this is an Auburn team that had no business being ranked. A flat Auburn team just couldn’t get it done.
12. 1990 Southern Miss
Final Score: L, 12-13
Auburn Rank: 15
Spread: Auburn -12
Is a loss to Brett Favre really that brutal? A winnable game that Auburn let slip through their fingers.
But really, how do you come back from a beating in the Swamp? Auburn was 7 days removed from a 48-7 bludgeoning by the Gators. I’m going to let this one slide.
11. 2005 Wisconsin (Capital One Bowl)
Final Score: L, 7-21
Auburn Rank: 7
Spread: Auburn -10
Another one that barely squeaks in. Fan expectations were high after an undefeated campaign in 2004, but a poor opening loss to Georgia Tech and an overtime loss to LSU (that included a hundred missed field goals) left the 2005 team with a feeling that they fell short, even after defeating Georgia and Alabama to close out the regular season.
I don’t know for certain that the team didn’t care about the game. I don’t know for certain that the team might have had a little too much team-building the night before. I know a sleepy Auburn squad on New Year’s Day got run out of the building by a Wisconsin team that wanted to be there. Barry Alvarez had those boys ready to play.
10. 2008 Arkansas
Final Score: L, 22-25
Auburn Rank: 23
Spread: Auburn -16.5
This is such a bizarre game. 2008 was wild. Preseason expectations were quickly dashed with a typical crazy last-minute loss to LSU. Then, somehow, College Gameday was the Auburn/Vanderbilt game two weeks later? (side note: the worst Auburn teams always seem to draw the best Vanderbilt teams. See, 2008 and 2012). Did Auburn deserve to be ranked? Hindsight, no, but even in the moment, 23 felt generous. Should Auburn have beaten that Arkansas team? Definitely. Arkansas was 2-3 and had been outscored 139-31 in their previous 3 games. But Auburn was awful that day. Tony Franklin had just been dismissed, and football genius Steve Ensminger took over playcalling duties. Auburn stunk from start to finish, and Arkansas took a deliberate safety to seal the win.
9. 2018 Tennessee
Final Score: L, 24-30
Auburn Rank: 21
Spread: Auburn -14.5
This one that barely qualifies. At this point, Auburn had already gotten beaten pretty badly by Mississippi State (no thanks to two different instant replays, no, I’m not bitter at all) and lost a narrow one to LSU (patience, we’ll get to this one) but this pretty much ended any expectations for 2018. Not much else to say.
8. 2017 UCF (Peach Bowl)
Final Score: L, 27-34
Auburn Rank: 7
Spread: Auburn -10.5
Maybe it’s just me, but this loss wasn’t as brutal as some make it out to be. 2017 Auburn had a magical November, followed up by a poor performance in Atlanta against Georgia. Several players had suffered injuries (Kerryon Johnson) or had all but declared for the draft (Carlton Davis). UCF looked like they wanted to be there, Auburn didn’t. UCF would go on to claim a national championship.
7. 1996 Georgia
Final Score: L, 49-56 (4 OT)
Auburn Rank: 20
Spread: Auburn -10
The first overtime SEC game was especially painful. Georgia was aggressively mediocre at best in 1996, and Auburn led 28-7 at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Even after surrendering two TDs, Auburn still got a fourth down stop with very little time remaining, and then they proceeded to fail to get a first down and run out the clock. No matter, they could still get a stop. Except on nearly the final play of the game, Auburn appeared to sack Mike Bobo with just 6 seconds remaining. For some reason, the clock was stopped and placed back at the 31 yard line, allowing UGA to spike the ball. They would throw a desperation TD pass on the next play, and hit the PAT to tie the game. Four overtimes later, Auburn finally couldn’t convert their opportunity.
6. 1997 Mississippi State
Final Score: L, 0-20
Auburn Rank: 11
Spread: -17
Some of the losses in this list make sense in hindsight (the 2018 team wasn’t as good as originally thought; the 2006 team had so little offensive firepower that if they started committing turnovers, or if the defense wasn’t lights-out that things could go south). This loss does not. This was not a particularly good Mississippi State team. They had been blown out by UGA, handled easily by LSU, and beat their 3 non-conference opponents (Memphis, ULM, and UCF) by a total of 24 points. The game was in Auburn, and the Tigers were coming off of a more-solid-than-it-looked win at Arkansas, and the only blemish was a hard-fought loss to one of Spurrier’s best Florida teams. For some reason, Auburn couldn’t do anything against Mississippi State on offense. In the previous 3 meetings, Auburn scored 42, 48, and 49 points against the Bulldogs. Then, somehow, on a rainy afternoon at Jordan-Hare, Terry Bowden’s offense lost the plot.
My enduring memory of this game: on almost every fourth down, Mississippi State would line up with their base offense and force Auburn’s defense to stay on the field. Then MSU QB Matt Wyatt would drop back a few yards and punt. Not a pooch punt. I’m talking a real two-step punt. Fearing MSU would go for it if given the opportunity, Auburn never sent anyone back to return the punt, so it would inevitably roll another 10-15 yards. Sports-reference.com tells me Wyatt punted 13 times in 1997, but I swear half of them were in this game.
5. 2018 LSU
Final Score: L, 21-22
Auburn Rank: 7
Spread: -10
We briefly talked about 2018 earlier. Expectations were high with returning starter Jarrett Stidham at quarterback. However, the future New England Patriot opened the game with a really, really poor interception, setting up transfer quarterback Joe Burrow with a very easy touchdown drive. Auburn regained control of the game and led 21-10 with 10 minutes left in the third quarter. FPI even gave Auburn a 90% chance of winning halfway through the fourth quarter. Auburn let a 71 yard touchdown pass slip through their fingers and committed several defensive pass interference penalties as Cole Tracy kicked the game winning field goal as time expired. The way this game played out was heartbreaking. Auburn had the team to win this game.
4. 2006 Arkansas
Final Score: L, 10-27
Auburn Rank: 2
Spread: Auburn -13.5
2006 Auburn entered the season with all sorts of crazy expectations, even on a national level. The AP had Auburn at #4 in the country in the preseason poll and was a near-consensus #2 behind Ohio State by the time the Arkansas game rolled around. Auburn had already beaten #6 LSU 7-3 in a nail-biter 3 weeks earlier. This team was good, and had the resume to prove it.
Enter Darren McFadden. A young play caller by the name of Gus Malzahn, equipped with the second-best football player I have ever seen with my own eyes, had his way against Auburn’s elite defense.
Arkansas was obviously underrated at the time. Malzahn had his typical “slow start to the season” game against USC, getting blown out 50-14, followed by 3 wins against unranked opponents. They would go on to win the SEC West in 2006. But in the moment, this one stung.
Oh, and this was the first loss I ever witnessed in person. That may explain why this one is so high.
3. 2016 Georgia
Final Score: L, 7-13
Auburn Rank: 9
Spread: Auburn -10
There was a stretch in 2016 where Auburn’s offense looked as dominant as they ever had. I fondly remember the 2016 Arkansas beatdown, or even the Mississippi State game. That team was clicking. Unfortunately, Pettway was hindered by injuries. Sean White likely lied to his coaches about the extent (or existence of) an injury in his throwing arm. By the time the Georgia game got around, the defense looked unbelievable, and the offense looked incompetent.
Still, Auburn’s defense was good enough to beat this Georgia team with one hand tied behind their back.
2. 2006 Georgia
Final Score: L, 15-37
Auburn Rank: 9
Spread: Auburn -11.5
This team could have contended for a national championship. HOWEVER, some huckster from Arkansas had to come in with his Wildcat and his gotdang trick plays and ruin us on a hungover Saturday morning when the Tigers were ranked 2nd in the country. Yes, Gus Malzahn hit the 2006 Auburn team with its first death blow, but Georgia provided the killshot.
If you were there on a rainy November morning, Auburn had rebounded from the loss to the Hogs, beaten Florida, and entered the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry ranked 5th in the land (the highest-ranked SEC team). Arkansas had the inside track to the SEC Championship game with the tiebreaker, but Auburn was in position for a BCS bowl game either way, if they could finish at 11-1 in the regular season. Nah.
This one started poorly with a Georgia drive to score five minutes in, but it was a 23-7 Bulldog second quarter that doomed Auburn. Down 30-7 at halftime, Brandon Cox and the offense were completely ineffective (Cox completed 4 passes to his own team and 4 passes to the other team), while chubby Matt Stafford ran the quarterback draw to perfection (7 carries, 83 yards, 1 touchdown). My memories include sitting in the rain under the press box in Section 5 and wondering why Georgia’s shell band was so much louder than our full band.
Auburn lost 37-15, and over his final two games against Georgia, Brandon Cox would throw EIGHT interceptions. The Tigers finished the 2006 season at 10-2 after a super-boring and totally Tubervillian win over Alabama, then they’d beat Nebraska in the Cotton Bowl to reach 11 wins. In September/October, you would’ve thought this team could compete for a national championship. In November? The eleven wins would seem like an incredibly unrealistic total for an offense that could barely escape from a wet paper bag.
1. 2014 Texas A&M
Final Score: L, 38-41
Auburn Rank: 3
Spread: Auburn -23.5
I have some pretty strong feelings about the 2014 team. I believe that offense was actually better than 2013. I loved that team. The 2014 LSU game is the most fun game I’ve been too, and that list includes the Kick Six. 2014 Auburn rose all the way up to #2, stumbled against future Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, and made it back up to #3 in time for the game against A&M. Meanwhile, A&M’s last two games included a 59-0 beatdown by Alabama and a narrow win over La Monroe. Oh, and Auburn was a 23.5 point favorite. twenty three and a half points. In 2019, teams favored by at least 20 points went 224-10 (.957) straight up. You may recall South Carolina beating a Top 5 Georgia squad. Losses like this just don’t happen.
Auburn outplayed A&M that afternoon. Auburn trailed all game, but a comeback seemed like a foregone conclusion. We were that much better. CAP rushed for 220 and 2 touchdowns! Nick Marshall ran two touchdowns in and threw for another. The team was clicking. However, it wasn’t meant to be. A late fumble near the goal line, followed by a rather large blunder with a snap, gave the game away to the Aggies.
A 23.5 point spread remains the largest upset in Auburn history. I’d argue that this game, single-handily, knocked the magic out of Gus Malzahn until 2016, maybe even 2017. Darkest_Timeline.gif. If Auburn wins this game, they don’t sleepwalk through Georgia, they may play just a bit better against Alabama, and may even make a playoff. Am I reaching? Maybe. I was at Jordan Hare for this. Sitting in the same section, same row as I did for the Kick Six. This one stuck with me.
How did I do? What criteria would you use to rank the most brutal losses in Auburn history?

TDS Exclusive: Interview with Evil Dead 2 actor Danny Hicks
Below is a transcribed interview done over an internet call with actor Danny Hicks. After starting in theater, Danny started his film career with Evil Dead 2 and went on to star in other Michigan Mafia flicks such as Intruder, Darkman, Spiderman 2, and My Name is Bruce.

Q: First off, can you tell us what got you into acting and how you got into the profession?
A: Yes I can. It’s a little embarrassing but I’ll tell you anyway since I’m pretty hard to embarrass. Actually I was a heavy equipment operator in the Detroit area and a friend of mine invited me to take part in a little tiny performance on stage in a place called the Farmington Player’s Barn. It wasn’t even a real play. It was called The Still Alarm and I played a British fireman. I think that I had two lines. After the play was over this very attractive woman came up to me and said you know what? I run the YMCA down the street here and we have a beautiful hot tub. What do you say we get naked and get in the hot tub? And I thought you know I can get laid doing this stuff! And that’s how I became an actor. I got on stage that night and I didn’t really get off the stage again for five years.
Q: How did you hear about the audition for Jake in Evil Dead 2?
A: Even though we were all from the Detroit area I’d never met Bruce or Sam or any of those guys. I’ve met Ted Raimi before but I didn’t know much about him. I did cast him in a play one time but that was a couple of years before the audition for Jake. My agent called me one day and said that they’re shooting this movie; a bunch of guys from Detroit, and she gave me the character description which was “Scuzzbucket”. Well I said well I know that I can do scuzzbucket. That might be fun so I got up that morning and opened the hood of my car and combed my hair with grease and smeared gravel all over my face and just got as ugly as I could. Then when I got in front of the camera for the audition I said “Scuzzbucket, how scuzzy do you want this guy” Sam Raimi says as scuzzy as you can make him. So I pulled out my partial plate which made me look incredibly stupid and scuzzy and then said “You want him this scuzzy?” Sam then said “Oh my god. An actor without an ego. I love it!” That’s how I became Jake.
Q: Did you feel excited or nervous after you got the part?
A: It was my first feature film though I’ve been on stage for about five years and I’ve done a ton of television commercials and hundreds upon hundreds of industrial films but I’ve never done a feature film before. So I was really excited about it. And then of course they postponed it for three months which made me think that maybe it wasn’t going to happen. But actually it was very good for me because it allowed me to go back on stage and play the role of George in Of Mice and Men. George is one of the best characters in American literature so I was glad that I got to do that role. It was very challenging. I had a whole week to get ready for it. It almost killed me but it was worth it. When I was finished with that, they were ready to start shooting Evil Dead 2. So I really didn’t have enough time to get nervous about it. Excited, yes. Especially after they said that they were going to start the shoot now. Then I really started to get excited.

Q: Supposedly Sam Raimi had the hardest time with casting Jake and was going to do the role if he couldn’t find someone to his liking to do the part. How do you think the movie would have fared if Sam ultimately played Jake instead of you?
A: Well Sam Raimi is probably the best director in the world right now or at least in my opinion. He’s a decent actor. I worked with him as an actor. He was in Intruder with me and I got to kill him which was fun. I got to kill Ted too. I got to kill most of the Raimi family which was enjoyable. I don’t know. That’s a good question. I’m sure that he would have pulled it off but I can’t really imagine the film without me as Jake. It’s pretty hard to do. I think that he would have done a decent job. I don’t know if the movie would have been exactly the same but who knows it might have even been better.
Q: How much input did you have in your character of Jake in Evil Dead 2?
A: It really didn’t need much of my input however Sam is a great director to work with because after he gets what he wants he’ll let you do anything you want. Well at least back in the day back in that time frame. He would let me especially have a take off of my own and just do it anyway I wanted to. To tell the truth with you I don’t know if any of those takes actually ended up in the movie but they might have. I know one particular instance after Ash cuts up Evil Ed with the ax and he’s all over the floor I asked Sam if I could deliver a line. He said, yeah go ahead. I’ve been trying to get this line into movies forever and somehow or another, it’s always been cut out. The line was “I’ve been to three world’s fairs and placed second in a donkey f**king contest and I ain’t never seen nothing like this before!” And they cut it out. Can you believe that?
Q: How would you describe the difference of being a theater actor and being directed for a feature film such as Evil Dead 2? Was it difficult to adapt to the changes?
A: First of all let me answer the last part of that question. No I didn’t find it very difficult mainly because I’ve done so many industrial films and I knew how to work with the camera already. I knew what lenses were and how they affected me and my performance and so I pretty much knew all of that stuff. Though the second that I got on set of a feature film I said that this is what I want to do. I pretty much gave up theatrical acting after that. Not that I don’t miss it occasionally. But it’s an awful lot of hard work and the disciplines are completely different. When you go on stage to do a play you have to have this energy that’s burning bright that lasts for about two hours or usually a little less than two hours. If you try to keep that same attitude onto a feature film, you’re going to be dead after two days. It will literally kill you. The main difference if you have to learn how to turn that energy on and then off. When the camera is rolling, that is when you have to have that fire burning. When the camera is off you better sit down and have a Pepsi or a Coke or even a glass of water or whatever because if you don’t you’re just going to burn yourself out. As soon as I started to work on Evil Dead 2 that’s when I realized that is what I wanted to do with my career.

Q: After Evil Dead 2 your next big role was for Intruder. How would you compare the severity of the Evil Dead 2 shoot to Intruder? Could you tell us more about the shoot?
A: Yeah there’s just about difficulties on any shoot I think. We didn’t necessarily have the hot weather like we did on Evil Dead 2 but we had the confines of the grocery store that had been abandoned. You couldn’t get near the dog food aisle without gagging. I mean the stench was just awful. We had some meat carcasses hanging up in the storage room and that were pretty ripe. Intruder was actually a pretty easy film for me. Scott had done an earlier version of this film and because I worked with him indirectly with Evil Dead 2, he kinda rewrote the script for me. He told me that I would be pretty good in this part and he kind of tweaked it so the character was more so written for me. So as a result it was a pretty easy shoot for me. I didn’t get along with some of the actors, well one actor in particular but I don’t know if I want to get in too deeply into that. But other than that it was just like any other feature film. It was very physically demanding. The hours were just horrible but the movie itself was pretty easy for me.
Q: KNB EFX did an amazing job on Intruder with the death scenes. Supposedly crew members were getting queasy. How well did you fare? Have any memories from the shoot that you’d like to share?
A: Well personally I didn’t feel sick. I just thought that this was amazing! This looks so real! I remember that the band saw effect when it starts going through the teeth, the script supervisor who I think that her name was Pepper because we called her Dr. Pepper, well she was on top of a step ladder so she could look over the heads and shoulders of everybody and see what was going on. When they did that scene and the saw started vibrating in the teeth she actually passed out and fell off the ladder. She didn’t hurt herself seriously, thank God. It was just incredibly believable. They did a marvelous job.
Interesting little side note, there’s a scene where I beat a guy with the head of Danny which was cut off even though you don’t see that and I’m smacking him in the back and beating him with this head. I couldn’t hold on to it because there was nothing to grab. The hair was just glued in there. So I remember talking to Robert Kurtzman and asking if he could drill some holes in this thing so I could hold it like a bowling ball. He really didn’t want to do that because it was actually a work of art but it was also a prop and I had to handle it. So he said yeah so he drilled some holes into the scalp area so I could put in my fingers just like a bowling ball. I then proceeded to beat the hell out of the other actor in the head with it and I’m sure it hurt. You know sometimes you got a suffer a little pain for your art.
Q: After working on both Evil Dead 2 and Intruder how would you compare Scott Spiegel as a director to Sam Raimi?
A: Well they’re both actually the fourth Stooge in The 3 Stooges. That was kinda similar. With Intruder, Scott just kinda let me go and do whatever I wanted to do as long as I stayed kinda close to the script. The script again was so well written that I didn’t have to change a thing. It was just perfect. He had his hands full with a lot of the other actors since they really hadn’t been in front of a camera before. So he just basically said that he was going to concentrate on those people and let me do what I do best. I still don’t know what I do best but that is what Scott wanted of me. He kinda just let me go to do my own thing so that was cool. That was actually one of the reasons why it was such an easy film for me in that regard because Scott trusted me. I think that he got what he wanted out of the film.

Q: You went on to be a henchman in Darkman alongside the great Larry Drake who passed away last year. Could you tell us what it was like working on a larger budget and with Larry?
A: It was great. Larry Drake was one of the most incredibly gifted actors that I’ve ever worked with. In fact, I don’t know if you remember him from L.A. Law but he played a mentally challenged guy named Benny. He did it so well that people actually thought that he was retarded! I’m sorry that’s an antiquated term but they really thought that he was. The first time that I met him, I’d just come out of work and I was wearing a tie that was pink and black and purple and green and I walked into the makeup trailer and he was sitting there, looking at me through the mirror. I asked the woman who was doing his makeup what she thought about my tie. He answered of course. He said that it was boring, drab, blaaah just about like you. I just looked at him and said “You’re really are f**cking retarded aren’t ya?” That started my friendship with Larry Drake. He had a wonderful sense of humor and he was such an intelligent man. He was one of the smartest people that I had ever known which goes to prove what a gifted and talented actor he was to portray Benny so believably that people actually thought that he was mentally challenged. He was just a great guy. I lost touch with him for many years and then I saw him again at a convention. I believe it was in Indianapolis. It was just so good to see him again. We got to talk a little bit and reminisce which was really great because he died not too long after that. It was just a real shame, a real travesty.
As for the big budget, it just didn’t seem to mean much to me. I mean it really didn’t affect my surroundings or anything like that. It was just work as usual. I can’t really remember now but I’m pretty sure that the catering service was better. One thing with a big budget film like this, everyday they died my hair red every morning and did my nails every morning. At the end of shooting they washed the dye out of my hair and took the nail polish off of my fingers. I guess that I did get pampered quite a bit on that film now that I’ve come to think about it. It was fun to be able to.....well for example we shot a large portion of that in a condemned area of downtown Los Angeles and they actually let us blow shit up. That was really cool. I wasn’t there for the helicopter scenes to which I’m sure that cost a fortune. It sure worked well in the movie. It was a lot of fun to work on a big budget film.

Q: My Name is Bruce had a small budget and was filmed on Bruce Campbell’s property. Can you share your experience in getting involved with the film and the shoot as well?
A: Timmy Quill and I went up there together and there was nothing in the script for us. So Bruce just says come up with just whatever you want to do and we’ll do that. We’re getting ready to shoot the first scene that Tim and I are in and this was another Evil Dead type circumstance because it was so hot in there. It was brutal. Timmy and I are sitting there and I had decided that the movie was about Bruce making fun of himself so I thought that it would be great if I make fun of myself. Tim Quill said yeah, I’ll make fun of the blacksmith in Army of Darkness. That’s what we did and we worked on our shtick. Bruce came up to us just before we started shooting and asked us what we’re going to do. We told him and he thought it was great and that it was a good idea but then stated that we’re also a gay couple. Roll cameras!! I tried so hard not to laugh. I was almost peeing myself especially right at the end when Tim leaned over and pinched my leg and goes “I wish that I could quit you”. If you look at me you can see that I’m trying to not laugh. I think that I did pee my pants a little. I was trying so hard not to laugh! That movie was a tremendous amount of fun to work on.
TDS: That was one of my favorite parts of the movie! That and the fact that Ted played multiple roles and also died multiple times.
A: As for Ted Raimi, I don’t know how many times he died in that movie. He was so good. He got a lot of flack too from impersonating the Chinese character. I guess a lot of people took offense to that. Why that is, I don’t know! In fact I was with Ted a couple of weeks ago and we were talking about that and how much flack he got for playing that character. I really don’t know why. He did such a great job with all of the characters. Ted Raimi can do anything. That guy is such an incredibly good actor. He was hilarious. I don’t know why anyone would take offense to anything that he did. In fact my favorite scene in the movie is where he keeps on trying to disappear and he doesn’t and then finally after three or four times, he’s finally gone. I kept on saying look! He’s gone! It was so stupid but it was so funny. If you get the chance, watch the making of behind the scenes for My Name is Bruce. It’s called Heart of Dorkness. It’s directed by a friend of mine called Mike Kallio who also played the sleazy director in the movie. He did the making of Heart of Dorkness. It’s really entertaining so if you get a chance then watch that.

Q: You seem to be paired with Timothy Patrick Quill often now in your newer features. Did co-starring with him in My Name is Bruce and Spiderman 2 open up the door to a new collaboration?
A: No I don’t think so. Although it’s funny that you mention that because we’re working on a feature film in September that shoots in Montana called Blood Hunter and Timmy and I are both in that. I don’t know if that really happened or not though. I’ve known Tim for awhile before we shot My Name is Bruce. I think that we worked on a couple of projects together but we get along really well together. We have a lot of fun working with one another and we’ve done some conventions together. I don’t know how that came about. Perhaps it did come about that way. I’m not really sure.
Q: Are there any roles, projects, or missed opportunities that you’ve been involved with in the past that never came to fruition?
A: I’m sure that there’s a lot of them. I try to not dwell on things that didn’t happen. There is one I was originally supposed to play one of the leading roles in....help me out here. George Clooney ended up playing my role.
TDS: Wow really?!
A: Yeah Quentin Tarantino was in it with George Clooney. It was one of Clooney’s first films.
TDS: From Dusk til Dawn?!
A: Yes! From Dusk til Dawn. And the original cast was supposed to be myself, Robert Englund and Ted Raimi. They actually used our names to raise money in Europe. Then of course Robert Kurtzman didn’t direct it anymore and then one thing led to another and the next thing I know, George Clooney is playing my role and I honestly had to sit back and say ok well look. You have Danny Hicks here and you’ve got George Clooney here. You know what? I would have cast George Clooney too! That’s one of the things that I don’t know if I regretted it or angry about it but I’ve since then forgiven everybody. Actually I’ve forgiven them a long time ago. That was one and I really wish that we could have set Intruder up so it could have had a sequel. I would have really loved to play that role again. Of course that never happened. I kinda regret that one a bit. I think that it would have been fun to play that character again.

Q: Have you checked out Ash vs Evil Dead yet and if so what are your thoughts?
A: I have checked it out. I watched the entire first season and then I moved and didn’t get cable television anymore so I’m out of the loop there. I thought that it was fun. I thought that it was way over the top. It was more Army of Darkness than it was Evil Dead. But that’s OK since the fans seem to really enjoy it and they’re eating it up and I know that Bruce is having a good time. Well at least he was the last time that I was talking to him which has been a couple of months. I can’t imagine that they don’t beat him up too much in the third season so yeah I’m really happy for him. The fans seem to really be getting what they want. Although of course they’ll never stop clamoring for an Evil Dead 4. I mean that’s what they really want. Instead they got Ash vs. Evil Dead. I think it’s great.
Q: The show shoots in New Zealand and Ellen Sandweiss has returned in the franchise last season as well as Ted Raimi. If you were offered a role in the show, would you do it?
A: I would be on a plane right now. I would be packing to get to the airport. I would love to do it. If you blinked then you probably missed it but they actually use a clip from Evil Dead 2. I think that it was the final episode of season one where they showed me for like a tenth of a second and then they showed my bones dressed in the overalls down in the cellar. I think that they used a little clip from Evil Dead 2 of me and then they went down to the basement and saw my bones. They paid me for it let’s just put it that way. They couldn’t use it without my permission. I don’t know if that would stop them from bringing me back as a character. I really don’t know but if they asked me then yeah. I would do it in a heartbeat.

Q: What got you involved in the horror convention circuit and what is your opinion on it?
A: I got involved probably five years ago or maybe six years ago and the reason why I got involved is because Bruce Campbell called me from a convention that he was doing in New Jersey. He said “Danny, they’re selling your pictures at these conventions and they’re making money from it. If you don’t start doing these then I’m going to kick your ass!” So I looked into it and thought well it might be fun so I started doing them and I love them. I do maybe six or seven a year. I’ve been all over the United States. I’ve been to Germany twice and it’s all basically because of Evil Dead 2. I mean that is what I’m the most famous for although there are a lot of Intruder and a lot of Darkman fans but mostly Evil Dead 2. I’m very thankful for that. The best part about doing these conventions is how excited the fans are to just see you and say hello to you or get a picture taken with you. You know a hug or a kiss or whatever and I think that it’s just wonderful. Even though there’s money involved, I think that the best aspect of it is giving something back to the fans because without them none of us would have jobs. It’s really a good chance to give something back to the fans.
Q: Do you have any projects going on right now that you’d like to share with us?
A: There’s Blood Hunter. They’re shooting that now. It’s a low budget vampire film starring Mr. Timothy Quill and I have a little cameo in it. Well probably a little bit bigger than a cameo. That film is also set up a little for a sequel. I shouldn’t really be talking about it but I am anyway. What are they going to do? Fire me? We’re going to do that and I’m going to shoot my role sometime in September. After that I’m off to Sinister Creature Con in Sacramento, California and that’s in October. Also I might add, I’m happily retired though it doesn’t sound like it does it? I am. It’s kind of neat. In fact I love that as an actor being your job then it’s looking for a job. That’s what you do and you do it seven days a week, fourteen hours a day and I’m glad to not have to do that anymore. A lot of people send me scripts and I read them and it’s any good or if there’s something in it that I like then I take it from there. I don’t actively look for work anymore. That’s what I considered to be retired. I’m really enjoying it and I enjoy playing with my granddaughter.
Q: You’re an associate producer in your latest film Dick Johnson & Tommygun vs. The Cannibal Cop. Is producing, writing, or directing something that you might venture into in the near future?
A: Not producing per say. I don’t know enough about it and I don’t really have much of an interest in that. There are films that I’ve worked on where I’ve taken an associate producer role just to take the credit more than anything else. I may have helped out a little bit with technical advice or something. As for directing, I don’t think that I’m qualified. I’ve had a very good career on the dumb side of the camera. I think that’s where I belong. Although I did direct a few scenes in a movie that Tim Quill and I were in called Elder Island. The director decided that he wanted to play a part in the movie so I directed his scenes and it was kind of fun. Also it made me realize that I didn’t really know enough about it but it was fun to say action and cut but I really don’t know enough about it. In writing that is something that I’ve done quite a lot of but mostly for my own self amusement or amazement I should say. I’m not going to say that I’ll never write anything because I might. I think about it every once in a while.
I’ve also been involved in music in the last four or five years with an incredibly gifted musician named Tim O’ Saben who is in the St. Louis area. He and I have recorded thirty-nine songs now which is taking up quite a bit of time but I have an incredible amount of fun doing it. Basically Tim will write the music and play the instruments and he plays just about everything. I’ll write the lyrics and then we’ll record the music together. We’ve been doing that and having a lot of fun doing it. I actually met Tim at a horror convention and we got to talking about music and horror movies. He decided that the two went hand in hand very well so he wrote The Ballad of Jake & Bobby Joe and asked me if I’d be interested to go to St. Louis and record it and then doing the music video. We did that and it was a blast and after that we recorded another thirty-eight songs. Music was my first love before acting. Unfortunately I can’t play anymore. I have horrible peripheral neuropathy in my hands. Even picking up an instrument is painful. That doesn’t stop me from writing.
Danny Hicks reprises his role as Jake in the music video for The Ballad of Jake & Bobby Joe. (source)
Q: As an actor, is there any type of role that appeals to you the most or that you have the most fun with? Is there any role that you would like to take on in the future?
A: I’ll just do about any kind of role that I think is interesting. In fact the movie that I mentioned earlier Elder Island, they wanted me to play the police chief to which the role went to Tim Quill. I’ve done that before and I said you know I’ve done that role about ten times and I don’t want to do that again but this other guy and I can’t remember the character’s name right now.....Lucas. His name was Lucas. I told him that I would like to play this guy because he has no redeeming qualities. There’s nothing good about this man. I would love to play that role and they let me! It worked out pretty well. To answer your question, I think that I’ve played about every type of role that I would really want to and I’ll play any role that I find interesting.
Q: Thank you so much for your time with us Danny! Anything that you’d like to share with TDS followers?
A: No not really other than pay attention to this site! It has some incredible stuff! I’ve looked at The Deadite Slayer a few times and I always get a kick out of it so congratulations to you and I hope that you continue doing it. I appreciate all of the attention that you’re giving to me. I really do.

The degenerate’s guide to college football TV watch ‘em ups, 2019 season, week 11
I typed “Bama LSU” into tumblr’s gif search and this was the only result. I take it as a representation of my flawless technique as a writer.
Let’s see if I have the heart or interest to write anything worthwhile below. I’ve probably already done the best work possible in this world. FBSchedules and Vegas Insider are supporting this post materially, unwitting yet they be.
Saturday, November 9
Matchup Time (ET) TV/Mobile
Vanderbilt at 10 Florida 12:00pm ESPN
This doesn’t belong on television. This is not the kind of thing people should waste their lives on and I mean that for the players and coaches.
4 Penn State at 17 Minnesota 12:00pm ABC
Gophers +6.5 is an absolutely sure thing. It’s either that or there is no god. You can only choose one.
WKU at Arkansas 12:00pm SECN
Have you guys followed the whole Deadspin saga from the last few weeks? My favorite part was that Maidment guy that set the whole cycle in motion and then had to write a bunch of shitty content himself to make the site look sort of normal after everybody quit. I laughed heartily at his horrible writing but I can’t help feeling I’m that kind of brainless dummy clacking away at a company laptop to produce as little impact as possible with my unoriginal words. Anyway, enjoy this version of the Petrino Bowl.
UMass at Army 12:00pm CBSSN
Army is favored by 34.5. Army is fucking awful. It’s insane that UMass has a win over an FBS team this season. Once you get blown out by UConn, people forget all about your big win over Akron. Anyway, take UMass to cover because, as many are saying, Army is fucking awful.
Purdue at Northwestern 12:00pm BTN
As today’s contemporary children are quite fond of saying, it’s gonna be a no from me, dawg.
Texas Tech at West Virginia 12:00pm ESPN2
Long gone are the days of Holgo and... the guy that coaches the Cardinals now. They both used shitty seasons to get better money this year. So now Texas Tech vs. West Virginia is just bland gruel hardly fit for a shithead on his couch.
Maryland at 1 Ohio State 12:00pm FOX
We’re into the BCS rankings part of the season so now Ohio State is ranked #1, which I mostly agree with. I still hope they lose way more often than not but I’m sort of ambivalent here. Last year Maryland fucked up and blew a great chance to upset Ohio State and I watched it with friends who are not football degenerates a day or two after our friend’s funeral. On that note, Ohio State -44 is a strong recommend.
Florida State at Boston College 12:00pm ACCN
A week ago I would not have guessed FSU could fuck themselves so thoroughly against Miami that they’d be playing with an interim head coach this week. The rumor mill for the permanent hire in Tallahassee is hilarious: Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Bob Stoops, Jim Leavitt and Deion Sanders. The nicest thing I saw about Deion’s resume was that he was the OC for a high school in Texas a few years ago. I don’t think that was his sham unaccredited school. That school was in Florida, wasn’t it? That’s quite the resume to put up against the other four. Coach Deion is a dream we can all have.
East Carolina at 25 SMU 12:00pm ESPNU
Condolences to SMU as Memphis didn’t continually shoot themselves in the dick like they normally do in high profile games. This should be a good bounceback game but the action on the line (moving 3 points towards ECU) tells me people didn’t really think that much of SMU in the first place.
12 Baylor at TCU 12:00pm FS1
I honestly don’t have any sort of read on whether Baylor’s 8-0 record is because they’re back to being good or if they’ve just feasted on mostly shitty teams. Which I guess is all they ever did under Briles, anyway. Well, TCU sucks this year so I’m not really excited to check in on this one unless there’s an exciting finish like TCU is driving with under a minute to score their 10th TD of the day before time expires to seal the shutout.
Georgia Tech at Virginia 12:30pm RSN
For as long as I live, I will only ever think of the 1990 game between these two whenever they match up.
Air Force at New Mexico Postponed
This game is postponed due to the death of UNM defensive end, Nahje Flowers. R.I.P.
UTSA at Old Dominion 2:00pm ESPN3
South Alabama at Texas State 3:00pm ESPN3
Charlotte at UTEP 3:00pm ESPN+
Stanford at Colorado 3:00pm Pac-12N
19 Wake Forest at Virginia Tech 3:30pm ACCN
If VPISU hadn’t fucked it at the end against Notre Dame last week they’d probably be ranked ahead of Wake Forest. After Wake Forest loses this week, the boys from VPI might actually jump over them, anyway.
USC at Arizona State 3:30pm ABC
Now this is more like it! I don’t mean this game is interesting for watchin’ ‘em up or gambling, but the part where both teams are unranked and struggling. USC just hired a new AD from Cincinnati and he... knows Urban Meyer? Or the draw of being from UC will be just too much for Urban to resist? Or Urban picked the guy himself as a condition of considering coaching in the Coliseum? Still seems less than done to me but I’m still holding out hope that Urban Meyer never coaches again and his family leaves him.
Louisville at Miami (FL) 3:30pm ESPN2
Still fading The U for now. The 9 sacks and the easy win over FSU were nice but FSU hasn’t had a good offensive line since Jameis Winston won the Heisman and things are in a bit of disarray there. Louisville is a better team than most people realize and they’ll run straight at Miami instead of whatever the FSU gameplan was last week. Things may have turned a corner in Coral Gables but I’m inclined to believe the biggest leap they made last week was beating up on a familiar foe who is very down in the dumps and ready to quit at a moment’s notice.
UAB at Southern Miss 3:30pm NFLN
UAB failed us big time last week and now they’re a road underdog. I didn’t realize the Favres had crawled back to being decent. I don’t have a take on the line but this is probably the best game that’s been stuck on NFL Network so far this year.
Georgia Southern at Troy 3:30pm ESPN+
Each year I struggle to remember which one is Georgia Southern and which one is Georgia State and each year I fail to attempt to fix that.
UConn at 20 Cincinnati 3:30pm CBSSN
UC on UC - it’s gonna be a bloodbath! The Ohesians are only favored by 34 against the sad huskies. That seems like a slap in the face to any reasonably well prepared football program, let alone a top 25 one.
Illinois at Michigan State 3:30pm FS1
Illinois is a half game up on Sparty right now and rumors are flying that D’antonio is gonna retire after the season. Now, let’s go kill Tom Izzo. Michigan State is favored by 14.5 in this game and, seriously, can they even score that much in one game? Take the Illini and know that you’re on the side of good even if your bets don’t come through.
2 LSU at 3 Alabama 3:30pm CBS
Weeks of press for this GAME OF THE CENTURY OF THIS YEAR THIS WEEK and then the BCS poll comes out and it isn’t even a real 1 v. 2 matchup. That’s funny. I keep waiting for something to go wildly wrong with LSU but also feel like Bama being favored by a touchdown seems off, especially if Tua is at less than full operational capacity.
16 Kansas State at Texas 3:30pm ESPN
I’ve thought Texas was overrated all year and look at them now. Favored by 7 at home against a better team. Even unrated Texas is somehow still overrated.
18 Iowa at 13 Wisconsin 4:00pm FOX
This has all the makings of a great all-time eyerake. Wisconsin -9 seems absolutely insane but so does Wisconsin #13.
New Mexico State at Mississippi 4:00pm SECN
A classic rivalry game.
North Texas at Louisiana Tech 4:00pm Facebook
A spirited game between the 096ers and the Karl Malone Got His 13-Year Old Cousin Pregnant While He Was In School Heres always gets the blood pumping.
Georgia State at ULM 5:00pm ESPN+
ESPN+ games don’t count as watch ‘em ups. Does anybody in the comments actually pay for this shit? It seems insane. $8/month for access to 30 For 30 that you effectively already have and the + is the absolute worst filth college sports can throw at you.
FIU at Florida Atlantic 6:00pm Stadium
Really have no idea what to tell you. I think I understand both of these teams and then I’m proven wrong week after week. I’m rooting for FIU if that helps.
Appalachian State at South Carolina 7:00pm ESPN2
South Carolina is favored by 5.5. That’s more than the homefield bump. Does App State run the same offense as Georgia where the QB isn’t allowed to throw past the line of scrimmage and running backs are encouraged to run straight into the backs of their offensive linemen?
Missouri at 6 Georgia 7:00pm ESPN
Hey, speaking of Georgia! They don’t get nearly enough credit for being the worst team in America to watch for entertainment purposes. It’s like Kirby Smart is trying to take all of the late career criticism that Mark Richt faced at UGA and The U and reach the same end point by the time he’s coached four season in Athens.
Utah State at Fresno State 7:00pm CBSSN
Jordan Love. I just don’t know. He’s like a more careless version of Josh Allen. Is somebody really going to draft that in the first round? He has a year of eligibility left. I don’t know if he’s due to graduate in time but if he could find his way to Missouri that might really benefit both parties.
Washington State at California 7:00pm Pac-12N
A fine specimen of Pac-12 After Dark but only like 8% of the country can even watch it legally.
15 Notre Dame at Duke 7:30pm ACCN
On a positive note, whatever happens in this game we can all laugh at the losers.
Liberty at BYU 7:30pm ESPNU
Bergie’s Watch ‘Em Of The Year!
Tennessee at Kentucky 7:30pm SECN
Let’s go whiskey!
5 Clemson at NC State 7:30pm ABC
Clemson is outside looking in at the CFP! Panic! They’ll be #3 next week!
Iowa State at 9 Oklahoma 8:00pm FOX
In the parlance of our times, Iowa State is a messy bitch who loves drama. Will the Sooners get bailed out if things are tight at the end? Absolutely. But I would still put a dime or even a quarter on the Cyclones to keep it closer than 14.5.
Wyoming at 22 Boise State 10:15pm ESPN
I think if I surveyed the commenterate here they mostly hate Boise State and that tells me you’re a bunch of idiots. A nothing program rising like they did without a Phil Knight or an oil magnate backing them and they play their home games at night on blue turf? How do you joyless pricks live with your humorless brains? I fucking love MWC football and I love the blue turf. This is a great game. Long live the Potatoes.
Nevada at San Diego State 10:30pm ESPN2
The real late night games are all MWC this week and that is fucking beautiful. Just look at this. SDSU was ranked last week but then we switched over to CFP rankings and those pricks couldn’t just give us one more group of five school. Nuhvaddduh is OK this year and SDSU isn’t quite rolling up the rushing yards they have for the past five years so maybe this will be entertaining even beyond the pretty laundry?
San Jose State at Hawaii 11:00pm Spectrum Sports
I don’t actually know what Spectrum Sports is now that I think about it. This is, on paper, a pretty even matchup. If you want to keep yourself occupied into the early morning hours, SJSU at +7 seems a decent value in these here puffy, darkened eyes.

NORMAN, Okla. | Murray's 5 total TDs lead No. 6 Oklahoma past UCLA 49-21
New Post has been published on https://is.gd/BwtXrs
NORMAN, Okla. | Murray's 5 total TDs lead No. 6 Oklahoma past UCLA 49-21
NORMAN, Okla. — UCLA coach Chip Kelly believes his day against Oklahoma might have gone better with some help from the Oakland Athletics.
The A’s selected Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray with the ninth overall pick in the Major League Baseball draft. They signed him for nearly $5 million but allowed him to come back to school and play football.
Kelly wished negotiations had gone differently. Murray passed for three touchdowns and ran for two, and No. 6 Oklahoma defeated UCLA 49-21 on Saturday.
“The only guy I would say I’m disappointed in is Billy Beane,” Kelly said, joking about the A’s executive. “I wish he gave the kid more money. If there was a little bit bigger prize, maybe number 1 wasn’t out there because he’s a real talented player.”
It wasn’t all smooth for Oklahoma. The Sooners lost star running back Rodney Anderson to a leg injury. Anderson ran for 10 yards on the final play of the first quarter, and then got up slowly. He limped off on his own, and trainers tended to the preseason All-Big 12 pick before he headed to the locker room. He was back on the bench later, out of uniform.
Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley was unsure of Anderson’s status going forward.
“We’re hoping for the best, but we will get in and see how he’s doing,” Riley said.
Murray picked up the slack with 306 yards passing and 69 yards rushing. Kelly was impressed with how Murray has stepped in for No. 1 overall NFL draft pick Baker Mayfield.
“You think there would be a big drop off when you go from a Heisman Trophy winner, but that kid’s very special,” Kelly said. CeeDee Lamb had seven catches for 146 yards and a touchdown and Marquise Brown added 88 yards and a score on four catches for the Sooners (2-0).
Despite losing Anderson, Oklahoma ran for 179 yards and averaged 5.1 yards per carry. Oklahoma reserve running back Marcelias Sutton called Anderson the team’s “heart and soul.”
“That was hard for me to see him go down, but at the end of the day when it’s time to step up, it’s time to step up,” Sutton said. “We have a lot of talent and we’re all close. We all just teach each other. We feed off each other.”
Oklahoma led 21-7 at halftime. The Sooners held the Bruins to 133 yards before the break and sacked UCLA freshman quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson five times. Thompson-Robinson started in place of the injured Wilton Speight.
Thompson-Robinson completed 16 of 26 passes for 254 yards in his first start. Bolu Olorunfunmi ran for 56 yards and two touchdowns for UCLA, which fell to 0-2 under Kelly.
THE TAKEAWAY UCLA: The Bruins got off to a good start but could not sustain it. Thompson-Robinson had good moments, but he struggled at times with accuracy and Oklahoma prevented him from taking off for long runs.
“I was really impressed with him,” Kelly said. “Again, he doesn’t get rattled out there. Got banged around, but I thought he did a really nice job competing all the way to the end, so I was impressed with Dorian.”
Oklahoma: The Sooners learned their special teams can be a game-changer against a Power Five opponent. Tre Brown had 121 yards on two kickoff returns.
“Probably the most dominant side of the ball was special teams,” Riley said. “Two huge returns. Proud of that group.” LAMB’S DAY
Lamb didn’t even start and ended up having one of the best games of his career.
The sophomore finished with 209 all-purpose yards. His touchdown grab in traffic was one for the highlight packages. He put a video game-caliber shake on a UCLA defender during a 66-yard punt return.
His best play didn’t even count. He went up for a pass on the sideline and stabbed the ball out of the air with one hand as he extended his right arm behind his outstretched body. He barely landed out of bounds.
“If the ball goes his way, I’m like, ‘He’s going to catch it someway, somehow,'” Riley said.
STAR POWER Oklahoma City Thunder star Russell Westbrook, who played basketball for UCLA, showed up for the game wearing a custom-made UCLA jersey.
At one point, Westbrook was seen with former Oklahoma basketball star Buddy Hield, who plays for the Sacramento Kings, and former Sooners basketball star Trae Young, who plays for the Atlanta Hawks.
POLL IMPLICATIONS Last week, Florida Atlantic coach Lane Kiffin said the Sooners looked like a playoff team during a 63-14 win last Saturday. They looked the part again, and they should at least remain steady in the next AP poll .
UP NEXT UCLA hosts Fresno State. Oklahoma travels to Iowa State. The Cyclones upset the Sooners 38-31 in Norman last year.

What's the cheapest option for car insurance for a teen?
I just recently passed my driving test and I'm completely taken away by the prices I've saw for car insurance on my parents Astra, I'm getting prices up at 7K. I've decided to go out and buy a category 1 insurance car (or any that's a low category) so it will be cheaper to run but the only problem is, I don't have a job at the moment so only have savings. It wouldn't bother me not taking out my own policy because I understand that can be more expensive but is there an alternative for me until I get a job and earn money to get the policy so I can collect NCD's? One of my friends use to have his own policy on his family car, a big car like ours, until he had an accident and the price shot up. Now because he can't afford the monthly costs he just takes out 1 weeks insurance at a top when needed and this costs him around 40. What I don't understand though is that he's 18, the same age as me, and I thought you werent able to do short term insurance as a new driver? Although I think he somehow takes it under his parents policy? I'v no idea how this works if someone could shine a light on it? Another friend also had a Nissan Micra and was paying around 80-90 per month which I thought was very cheap (also the same age as me) for an insurance which makes me wonder if he is on his own policy? My dad will be getting insured on my own car also and be using it for work at nights. If anyone could come up with some solutions for me that would be great!! :) Thanks""
Do you think i could get a used car and insurance with under $3k?
i really need a car to get around, i have full time job, n part-time student. It's getting to my nerves that whenever i need to go somewhere, i have to ask my brother or sister to take me. Yes i am a student 18 yo, i don't have much money, and my parents refuse to buy me a car, reason because my mom said insurance is too expensive, and she doesn't give a shitt about me. Do you think i could get it anywhere? i was thinking about buying the car 1st then insurance later on because i can't afford it. idk what should i do?""

(thank you sooooo much for all answers to my previous question! It's a shame I couldn't shout thank you for pushing the vote button by mistake. I was a total noob here) As everyone recommended me to purchase a 4th gen Trans Am (hopefully the ram air of the final edition), with one person also picking the 05-09 Mustang GT out of my wishlist and my friend telling me to get a 92-02 Cadillac Eldorado, how much is the average of the insurance rates for each car? I'm 24, male, just graduated from college in Japan and have no driving history in America. I'm moving outta here in a year. My nationality is Japanese as well, which means I won't be trusted for a while. Sure my Japanese licence won't be valid in the US so I'll have to retake it over there hence no history... right? :/ Does anyone have a clue? Thanks a lot for reading :)""

So I've been with TD insurance for 2 years now, I used to pay 208 last year and it went down 165, and this year it went 145, but I'm moving I called them when I told them my new postal code it went up 192.which is fine ,but my question is am I entitle to the discount I received from last year and this year on my new montly rate ? I got them because I had no vialation, or tickets nothing. Shouldn't I still be entitle on my new rate?""
Will my insurance company repo my totaled car if I'm still making payments?
April 2011 my car suffered enough hail damage to become totaled. I owe more on my loan then my insurance company is giving me, and would need $4500 to buy it salvaged. I can not afford to buy a new car and this one still runs perfectly fine (it was all cosmetic damage). I have been paying on my insurance and my car loan and have not been called regarding my choice to keep or sell my car in a very long time. My insurance policy has even been renewed for another year with no changes to my policy. I see no reason they would come and take it and not just let me finish paying my car. The problem is now my wife (who is fresh out of college with tons of debt and lowered my credit score) wants me to take out a personal loan and buy the salvaged title to make sure they won't repo it. My current loan has all the interest paid off the new loan would have much worse interest rates.""

When is it too late to make a car insurance claim?
About 3-4 months ago I was parked in a supermarket car park. My mum, opened the passenger door where the wind blew and hit the car next to us. Upon packing the car, the passenger in the alleged 'chip' car stated that their car was damaged- the damage was barely even visible- something you would expect as a driver to occur. I even questioned whether that 'damage' was the fault of ours because the car was that battered. Anyway, 3 months later I received a letter stating that I was involved in an accident on the 21st of June. This date is also incorrect where this 'accident' actually happened on the 1st May (my car insurance renewal date). My insurance know this happened in this time as I called them to ask what may occur. Could anyone provide me with details of when it is the latest time to make a claim. Also, what would usually happen for the 'chip' in question since I know this day that it allegedly happened was a lie. (UK answers only please)""

Over three years ago, a pick-up truck crushed the entire back-side of my van. Of course, it wasn't my fault and I took care of the situation by calling the truck driver's insurance company. However, when I was going through my auto insurance profile, I saw something weird, a driving history stating that I was at-fault for that accident three years ago. It's very weird because I claimed an accident not on my insurance company, but the truck driver's. What can I do to fix this? Was I paying more premium because of this mistake? Thank you""
Should I include collision on my car insurance?
I have a 2002 Honda Civic sedan with 99,000+ miles on it. In shopping around for better car insurance (my old policy expires next month), most agents I interacted with included collision for around a $300 annual premium. Some people I told about my insurance shopping said that to carry collision on such an old car is not necessary. I'm seeking an unbiased opinion as to what are the advantages, if any, about including collision, or any other info on what to look for in a good policy. Thanks.""

Do most parents pay for their children's car insurance?
Ok, don't rant at me, I'm asking this question innocently. Basically, I want to know if it's common for parents to pay for their children's car insurance (I'm thinking of those 17, 18, 19, etc. who just passed their test and haven't moved out), or if the child is usually made to pay it themselves? I don't know if part time jobs will cover the cost or what (especially as I imagine they will usually pay for their own petrol), but 3000 a year does seem quite a bit for a teenager to be able to afford. And seems like more and more youngsters are getting cars... I don't think I would expect my parents to pay for mine when I pass my test, but then again I don't know how I'd be able to afford it myself either... So I'm looking for some insight on the topic.""

How much will it costs me to cancel my Car Insurance?
Hi guys, I pay monthly installments on my car insurance and renewed my policy on 2nd February. Anyhow to cut a long story short I've bought a house with my fiancee and I work in Leeds now, and figured that it's cheaper to buy a monthly ticket for the train than it is to drive there, so want to cancel my insurance asap. I rang my insurance firm and they didn't give me an exact cost, only an admin fee of 29.95 to cancel, but mentioned that it is carried out on a 'pro-rata' basis. What does this mean and how much roughly am I looking to pay? I pay 51.00 a month at the moment...I'm confused.com! Thanks guys!! D""

Becoming car insured in Ontario?
Recently I just acquired my G2. I am an almost-17 year old male, and I wanted to try to clear up a few questions about insurance before going to get some quotes. Firstly, would it be possible for me to have my own separate policy? With my own car - that's how my dad wants it apparently... I know it would be expensive..but I would probably end up choosing only liability coverage. Secondly, would it be possible to somehow prove to the insurance company that I am more responsible than the average stereotypical 17 year old male in hopes of lowering insurance? For example, can high school marks play a factor? I've heard about something like this, although I don't know if it applies to our provincial policies. I know the other factors, such as having a 4 door used sedan, in-class driving course etc. can also help lower the cost. All help is appreciated, thanks!""

How much should I charge for tutoring?
I'm a senior in high school with over a 4.0 weighted average, and I'm thinking about doing some tutoring work for money, since no local businesses are hiring and I need to start paying car insurance soon, since I'll be driving. I'm wondering what to charge per session, and how long a session should last. I've figured out that I can tutor any subject for levels K-8, along with HS level Biology and Chemistry. Alternatively, for levels K-6, I'm willing to offer general homework help. I have some experience - I tutored someone who was failing two to four hours per week last year in HS Chemistry, and she ended up passing the course, including her NYS Regents Exam, which many people failed. From what I've seen, tutors around here make anywhere from $10 to $40, at my level of education. Is $10-15 unreasonable for a general homework help session? How does $20 sound for levels 7&8 math, or HS subjects? Is this too much? Too little? Could I make it work?""

Best way to find affordable therapy for a teenager with depression?
I'm seventeen years old and I think I have depression. All teenagers are emotional, I get that, but I know this is more. When I'm occupied and around people for a few hours at a time or less, I'm fine and usually even happy. Then when I actually have time to stop and think and let my mind wander, I usually feel kind of hopeless and just very sad. I also have other emotional issues, like the littlest things seem to enrage me. Also, I read somewhere that depression can cause physical issues such as digestive issues (which I have been having a lot of the past four or five months). I cancel plans a lot now, either because my stomach is acting up or I feel too sad to go anywhere and I just dont want to be bothered with people. Ive been sleeping a lot more than normal lately because thats the only time things dont bother me. When I was about thirteen I had an issue with cutting, I would talk to my guidance counselor (which is not an option now because I did home schooling and now am done with school until college next fall) and when she realized that I may have some more serious issues, she called my mom. My mom always brushed it off. She talked to me a total of one time, only when I went to my older cousin and my cousin forced my mother to talk to me. Basically, my mom got mad because I said I didnt feel comfortable talking to her and she refused to send me to a counselor, then she said she would send me to a counselor (at that time I had insurance) but she never actually ended up doing anything. So I went back to doing what I always do, pretending to be fine, and for the most part I controlled it. I stopped cutting until about seven months ago, which was also when all my other issues started popping up. I havent cut myself in a few months now, but I still have the urge to which is not okay. Depression and other mental health issues run in my family, and I keep thinking of one particular relative who got so bad that she took her own life. I know that at some point she must have been like me, where it was difficult but still somewhat manageable, and it just scares me that I could get to the point she was at. I have no insurance, and we have very little money. I know Yahoo Answers isnt the ideal place to seek advice, but I dont know where to go. I only have one true friend that I trusted enough to tell, and obviously she is my age so shes just as clueless as me. Then I have tried talking to my older cousin (not the same one I mentioned before, she and I dont talk anymore) but in her world even if the money is not readily available, when its needed they find a way, so she doesnt get the concept when I tell her I really do NOT have the money for a psychologist or insurance. Is there any websites or anything that provide information on free or more affordable counseling for teens? Im ready to admit that I need help I just need to find somebody actually willing and able to give it to me.""

Eagles’ Super Bowl Run Blessed by Getting All the Luck and All the Calls They Never Used to Get
You will remember a lot of elements of this Super Bowl-winning Eagles team. The indelible image, though, is Lane Johnson walking around the Linc after the Divisional Round win over the Atlanta Falcons in a dog mask, i.e., the face that launched a thousand t-shirts:
Can't find a dog mask? You can still buy one of Lane Johnson's "home dogs" T-shirts, which have raised over $100,000 for Philadelphia schools, via @PatriciaMadej. #Eagles #PHLed https://t.co/G3svt5cASm
— Brian Leighton (@phillyleighton) January 19, 2018
The Eagles were underdogs in all three of their postseason matchups, and boy did they let everyone know what they thought about that.
An essential element of underdog status is the belief, justified or not, that forces beyond your control always seem to be working against you. Not only are you often working with less talent or resources (at least, you think you are) — but the bastards are always against you, too. The league likes the Cowboys, the Patriots, the Giants, the Steelers, and so on more than they like you. Every 50/50 decision, every video review, every possible arbitrary break – it never seems to go your way. Even as recently as October, Birds’ fans were convinced that NFL referee Pete Morelli was totally out to get the Eagles:
The Eagles were penalized 10 times against the Panthers for a total of 126 yards. But when it came to the Panthers, Morelli’s crew called just one penalty. It went for one yard.
“10-1? Wow,” Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said when asked about the officiating after the game. “Hey, it’s part of the game. We’ve got to do a better job.”
“It boils me,” a less-diplomatic Jalen Mills said of the officiating “You definitely get frustrated.”
The Eagles’ postseason run, touched by a fair amount of luck and also plenty of love from the stripes, dug a 20-foot hole for that preconceived notion of underdog/unloved status, threw it to the bottom of the hole and buried it forever.
In their playoff game against the Falcons, the theretofore pretty shaky Nick Foles rifled a pass off a defensive back’s knee that not only wasn’t intercepted, it was turned into a gain that led to a field goal at the end of the first half. At the end of the game, the Eagles defended a five-point lead with the Falcons having the ball first-and-goal from the Eagles’ nine. Past Eagles teams would almost certainly have either A, given up the touchdown in those four downs, or B, committed an end zone penalty which would have all but ended the game. Neither death blow ever came. And it’s not like the Falcons didn’t have chances:
Remember that time Julio Jones dropped a game-winning TD and sent the Eagles to the Super Bowl? pic.twitter.com/cbJMcWdJBJ
— Ian Hartitz (@Ihartitz) January 24, 2018
The Birds didn’t need much in the way of luck or favorable calls in the blowout win over the Vikings the next week. Foles went from shaky to spectacular and the Vikings never seriously threatened to win the game. Good thing, too, because against the Patriots in the Super Bowl the Eagles were going to need all of the breaks and all of the officiating decisions to work in their favor. And that’s exactly what happened.
The luck actually began when, after losing the coin toss, the Patriots inexplicably deferred to the second half and gave the Eagles the ball to start the game. That’s the move you make when you are confident that your defense can keep the other team from scoring or perhaps even force a turnover. But the Patriots’ defense was unquestionably the worst of the team’s three phases. The only decision there was to give Tom Brady the ball and try to put the Eagles down 7-0 quickly. Instead, but for an unfortunate (but correctly called) illegal motion penalty on Eagles’ tight end Zach Ertz, it was the Eagles marching down the field with ease and taking the early 3-0 lead.
Then the whistles, or lack thereof, began favoring the Eagles in very meaningful ways:
Brandin Cooks takes vicious hit from Malcolm Jenkins, gets knocked out of #SuperBowlLII https://t.co/x8hbIAj4bs pic.twitter.com/62FCIw6tc9
— NY Daily News Sports (@NYDNSports) February 5, 2018
Malcolm Jenkins’ hit on Brandin Cooks was legal, but let’s get serious: We have seen hits that violent and brutal penalized despite being technically legal due to the optics of what followed, which was Cooks staying down awhile and ultimately leaving the game wobbly. Jenkins not only wasn’t ejected from the game — he wasn’t even penalized. Did that play matter? Ask Deadspin: “Cooks was New England’s most targeted receiver during the season, and just two yards behind Rob Gronkowski in receiving yards, so Tom Brady will have to attempt a comeback without one of his favorite weapons.”
By now you know that Foles called his own number on the “Philly Special” that helped send the Eagles to the locker room with a 10-point lead. You probably also know that, if we’re being honest with each other, that touchdown shouldn’t have counted:
The fourth down trick play TS to Nick Foles was an illegal formation, should have been called back…extended WR to the top of the screen is off the ball (needs to be on the line with just the OT on inside him). #SB52 #Eagles #Patriots pic.twitter.com/tdX7hIpiGu
— Matt Chatham (@chatham58) February 5, 2018
That this play stood is remarkable for three reasons.
First, the referees may have botched the call. There has been conjecture about whether Alshon Jeffery was assured by an onfield official that he was lined up legally, but that only underscores the lingering possibility that he wasn’t. Second, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, a guy who really knows his way around the NFL rule book, didn’t pick up on it and challenge the play on specific grounds, instead leaving the review to the league. Third — and this is the stunner — because all scoring plays are reviewed, the killjoys in the league office also somehow let it stand. Add all of that up, and it’s very difficult to ignore how fortunate the Eagles were to get that six.
In the second half, the Eagles got three more (for them) sweet officiating decisions that all contributed significantly to their win. I love Corey Clement, you love Corey Clement, Jimmy Kimmel loves Corey Clement, but based on the way “completing the process of the catch” has been ruled all season there is no way that Clement’s second half touchdown should have counted:
Not even the Super Bowl is safe from the catch debate https://t.co/8vLd2osQzl
— Sports Illustrated (@SInow) February 5, 2018
The Eagles’ last touchdown came from Ertz, who himself had some “did he or didn’t he” issues with his touchdown grab:
Catch or no catch? Eagles' Zach Ertz scores go-ahead TD in Super Bowl on controversial replay: https://t.co/xSQnjt4mWI pic.twitter.com/sWkU9khBvJ
— Yahoo Sports (@YahooSports) February 5, 2018
Either one of these reviews could just as easily have fallen against the Eagles. Had both of them gone the other way, their likelihood of winning the game was basically zero. But this tortured franchise and its title-starved fans sat through two excruciating video review commercial breaks, and both times the reviews finished with referee Gene Steratore raising both hands skyward.
And then, after all that, on the game’s final play, a Hail Mary pass that miraculously fell incomplete instead of finding a Patriot (like it always seems to do), there was the small matter of Patriots’ receiver Chris Hogan being blatantly body-checked 12 yards downfield, thus stopping him from being another pair of Pats’ hands waiting for the bomb to drop.
Perhaps the biggest stroke of luck the Eagles received was Belichick’s unexplained and inexplicable decision to activate but not play his best defensive back in a shootout.
Eagles’ fans have worn their status as football’s least favored team as a signifier of suffering and faith for decades. After this Super Bowl title, though, it’s finally time to accept that the Eagles cashed in all of their credit on bad luck and bad calls to win this championship.
“Well, are you feeling satisfied now?

If Kevin Sumlin is fired, can Texas A&M compete with Florida and Tennessee for top candidates?
This Story is About… Tom Fox/Staff Photographer Texas A&M Aggies head coach Kevin Sumlin signals to his players during pregame warmups at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Saturday, September 23 2017. (Tom Fox/The Dallas Morning News)
The "SportsDay writers round table" is a weekly chat between The Dallas Morning News’ three college football writers: Chuck Carlton, Ben Baby and Adam Grosbard. You can follow them on Twitter at @ChuckCarltonDMN, @BenBaby and @AdamGrosbard. The chat is moderated by assistant sports editor Scott Bell. This week’s chat dives into the crazy race for a berth into the Big 12 Championship Game, explores Kevin Sumlin’s hot seat after A&M’s most recent loss, and most importantly, discusses Frisco’s status at the Hawaii of Collin County.
Scott Bell: Welcome to this week’s round table, where we’ll hope to be a little more clear and coherent than the top of the Big 12 standings. And what better place to start this week than the top of those standings, where we have a four-way tie for first, and two others within a game of the top spot of the conference.
Ben Baby: It’s almost as if a Cyclone wrecked the Big 12.
Adam Grosbard: I see what you did there, Ben
Grosbard: The parity is great for end-of-season excitement. I"m sure the conference office would prefer a frontrunner with a shot at the playoff, though.
Bell: If Oklahoma, TCU or Oklahoma State goes 4-0 the rest of their schedule and then wins the Big 12 title, I still feel good about the conference’s chances of getting in the playoff. But any other scenario, and I think the Big 12 is on the outside looking in once again.
Bell: And winning out is definitely a lot easier said than done — all six of the teams that are within 1 game of the conference lead have at least two head-to-head matchups within fellow top-6 Big 12 teams. So it’s very conceivable that they all just beat up on each other and a couple two-loss teams end up in the Big 12 title game.
Baby: If that happens and the Big 12 misses out on the CFP again, it’s not necessarily an indictment on the conference, because it seems to be very strong this season.
Bell: Agree. Big 12 games have been highly entertaining all year. The same can’t be said for the SEC. But the SEC is top heavy and has two great candidates emerging as a result. The Big 12 is just stuck beating up on itself.
Bell: Which two teams do you think are most likely to face each other in the Big 12 title game?
Chuck Carlton: Oklahoma and TCU is my gut feeling (no jokes, please) based on schedule, but Iowa State somehow crashing the party and knocking the Big 12 out of the playoff with a championship game win would be so Big 12. We should have a good idea based on Bedlam this week (and Iowa State-West Virginia) followed by TCU at OU. Just wondering how Kenny Hill rebounds from Saturday’s showing.
Baby: I like Oklahoma and TCU as well, despite the fact that I share your fears, Chuck. It seems like there’s a lot of chaos left in the Big 12.
Carlton: By the end of the regular season, I wonder if there will be a one-loss team left in the Big 12.
Grosbard: TCU is probably the best bet to finish with one loss. Only real threat for a loss is Oklahoma, otherwise would need an upset in other three games
Bell: I’ll go against the grain and go with Oklahoma State and Iowa State. I see the Cowboys winning at home this weekend and Oklahoma beating TCU the next week. Iowa State would be sitting pretty in tiebreak situations against Oklahoma and TCU if all three ended with two losses.
Grosbard: Campbell has done an incredible job in such a short time at Iowa State. Who would have thought the Cyclones would win a 14-7 game against the Gary Patterson defense?
Bell: And I’ll go out on a limb and say Big 12 officials and TV executives wouldn’t exactly be thrilled with a matchup featuring the Stillwater and Ames markets.
Baby: That’s what happens when you do business in the Midwest.
Carlton: TV Armageddon. Again, the Big 12 title game is double-edged sword and opens the conference up for a whole lot of second-guessing.
Bell: Looking a month in advance is fun, but so much can and likely will change after this weekend’s games. And there are definitely some intriguing lines coming out of Las Vegas. Oklahoma State is favored by four against Oklahoma, TCU is less than a TD favorite at home against Texas and Iowa State is an underdog against West Virginia, despite coming in as one of the hottest teams in the country. It’s looking like it could be the most exciting Big 12 slate of the season.
Carlton: All of that makes sense but TCU-Texas. Horned Frogs have owned Texas for the past three seasons. Maybe the oddsmakers feel the Texas defense will keep UT in any game. If ever there’s a time that Oklahoma State is going to rise up against OU, it may be Saturday at home. Hard to imagine WVU losing back-to-back games at home.
Baby: Yep. Also can’t see Will Grier throwing four picks again. I can’t help but wonder what happens if he stays at Florida. Does coach Jim McElwain still get the axe?
Bell: I’d say no. But I guess it all depends on if that starts some sort of butterfly effect that also causes Antonio Callaway and the other handful of Gators from getting suspended in the offseason, and of course, if it causes McElwain to never bring up those death threats that may or may not have happened.
Grosbard: Complicated stuff
Carlton: He never lost a game at Florida — albeit small sample size. But he could have alleviated some QB angst. But it seemed like McElwain had the unfortunate knack for saying the perfectly wrong thing at the exact wrong time.
Bell: While we’re talking about SEC coaches getting the axe … I can’t imagine Aggie fans and A&M administrators loved what they saw on the field Saturday night, Ben.
Carlton: If it wasn’t already, Ben, is the LSU game a must-win now for Sumlin?
Baby: One has to imagine A&M has to win at least two of its final three SEC games for the administration to consider keeping Sumlin.
Bell: With A&M double-digit home dogs against Auburn this week, and likely similar or even larger underdogs when they head to Baton Rouge against LSU in a couple weeks, it’s looking more and more like 5 losses could be A&M’s floor this season.
Baby: It’s what we anticipated at the start of the season. The truth is this team might not be as good as it needs to be for Sumlin to stick around after this year. Granted, several people have floated his name out there for other jobs, so he may not want to be in College Station in the first place.
Bell: It’s hard to think of a scenario where either side would be incredibly enthused about a Sumlin-led team in College Station in 2018.
Baby: That’s what it’s starting to feel like. If A&M doesn’t get the ship righted by the end of the year, there’s a very good chance the Aggies finish the season unranked for the fourth straight year.
Bell: But with Florida opening up, Tennessee almost certainly opening up and some other big-name schools likely to follow suit, A&M will definitely have some competition when it comes to the pick of the litter of coaches if an when the A&M job does open up.
Carlton: Also a chance at UCLA being in the market too. Ben, where would the Aggies’ job rank among that group?
Baby: Oh, man. I’d put Florida at the top of that list. I’d stick Tennessee second and then A&M third, with UCLA closely trailing the bunch.
Baby: The last thing A&M needed was for the Florida job to open up.
Grosbard: Why Tennessee over A&M?
Baby: For starters, it’s in the SEC East, which doesn’t include Nick Saban. And the Vols’ track record dating back to the mid-’80s is pretty good. It’s not hard to build a championship contender in Knoxville.
Bell: I’d put Tennessee over A&M, too. The last decade of mediocrity notwithstanding, the Volunteers have a great history of winning. And it has a unified fanbase throughout the state that doesn’t play second fiddle to any other college team — and with no disrespect to the Titans — any other pro team, either.
Baby: Correct. And it’s a really good area to recruit in, too. There’s a lot of talent in the Southeast, which is generally why SEC teams are pretty good.
Bell: That being said, I’m sure A&M can make a competitive run at just about anyone this offseason if the job does open up. There may be some shared names on some of these schools’ wish lists, but I think different openings call for different candidates. There’s not a sure-fire candidate out there that’s a one-size-fits-all fix for every school.
Baby: Right. Guys need to be the right fit at the right schools. It’s so interesting to see the dichotomy between Big 12 coaching lifespans and those in the SEC. One conference has guys that seem to be around forever, while the other has half of its fanbases putting their coaches on the hot seat.
Bell: One place where nobody is putting their coach on the hot seat: SMU, where the Mustangs just clinched bowl eligibility for the first time in five years. What was the mood like after Friday night’s win over Tulsa, Adam?
Grosbard: Celebratory and reflective. The staff inherited an absolute disaster in 2014, taking over a 1-11 team. It was a long process to build the roster up through recruitment and finding the few diamonds in the rough that was the SMU roster at the time. Could hear a lot of celebrating from the locker room while in the press conference and in the offices near the press box after most people had gone home, too
Carlton: Just for your travel plans — and I’m sure you would hate this Adam — but seeing a lot of SMU to the Hawaii Bowl.
Grosbard: I will accept that burden if it comes to that
Baby: Sounds brutal.
Bell: Also seeing a lot of Frisco bowl projections…which I believe is the exact opposite of Hawaii.
Baby: I’ve actually heard people call Frisco the Hawaii of Collin County.
Bell: (and I’m a Frisco resident, so let’s just get that in before I get loads of hate mail from fellow Frisco residents)
Grosbard: It’s kind of a funny option between Hawaii and Frisco. Hawaii is a huge reward trip for the team after making its first bowl since 2012 but would not draw a huge SMU contingent. The other is way less exciting for the program but because it’s so local could (maybe) draw a larger turnout from SMU fans.
Bell: Really tough stretch ahead with UCF, Navy and Memphis up next — two of which are ranked. Do you think reaching 8 or 9 wins is a possibility, or is 7 more realistic?
Grosbard: I think SMU finds a way to get an upset in one of these games. I’m not sure which. But SMU knows it has a lot at stake in this next three game stretch. Chad Morris addressed the team about the chance to make a national statement against the best team in the conference UCF this week and the players were already talking about bigger goals like winning the conference before it reached bowl eligibility.
Carlton: What’s the best chance for an upset? Navy, maybe?
Grosbard: Navy is the most vulnerable of the three teams because the offense leans even more heavily run than pass than it usually does and turnovers have been an issue of late. But SMU also gave up 75 points to Navy last season. That’s a lot of ground for the defense to make up
Bell: Before we wrap it up for the week, let’s hear what everyone is looking forward to seeing the most this weekend in a slate that’s full of great matchups and storylines.
Grosbard: Bedlam is an easy pick. I want to see Mason Rudolph and Baker Mayfield go back and forth for 60 minutes.
Baby: Bedlam is going to be a blast. If A&M and Auburn were a little bit better, that game would be so compelling because of the Stidham-Mond storyline. But we’ll just have to settle for what it is — a game that could be very pivotal for Kevin Sumlin’s future.
Carlton: Bedlam is my pick, too, although I’m intrigued by A&M-Auburn. This is Oklahoma State’s chance end to OU’s long-term dominance under Bob Stoops. Boone Pickens Stadium should be rocking. And Baker Mayfield is working on that mustache.
Bell: That’ll do for this week. Be sure to follow the SportsDay crew as they head out to this weekend’s games. Chuck will be at Bedlam, Adam will be out at SMU’s clash with unbeaten UCF, Ben will be in College Station for A&M-Auburn, and columnist Kevin Sherrington will be in Ft. Worth for TCU’s matchup against Texas.

Browns vs. Dolphins: DPD staff predictions for the Week 3 matchup
The Dawg Pound Daily staff got together to share their thoughts regarding how the Cleveland Browns will fare in today’s game against the Miami Dolphins.
The Cleveland Browns will be led by another rookie quarterback when Cody Kessler starts today’s game against the Miami Dolphins, becoming the 26th starting quarterback for the Browns since 1999. But who’s counting?
Kessler will be doing this without fellow rookie Corey Coleman, who was lost to a broken hand in practice earlier this week. One can dwell on the lack of luck held by the Browns so far this season, but there are still 14 games to be played. One can only hope the injury bug leaves town before the Browns are unable to field a 53-man roster.
The staff here at Dawg Pound Daily got together to share our predictions for today’s game, just one week after no one picked the Browns to win a week ago. There is a bit more optimism surrounding the Browns this week as they head to Miami in a battle of 0-2 teams.
Jonathan Goehring (2016 record: 1-1): Browns 19, Dolphins 16 OT In Cody Kessler’s first career start, the Browns will find ways to give the rookie quarterback some confidence early on. It won’t be easy, but the offense will move the ball methodically down the field. Still, finishing drives will be an issue. But the Browns will have enough against the Dolphins to keep themselves in this game.
Defensively, Cleveland will bend but won’t break. Though the Dolphins have downfield passing threats which will create mismatches against Cleveland’s secondary, they have struggled finishing drives in their first two games. Without Arian Foster, Miami will fail to get into the end zone in the first half.
With a 13-6 Browns lead at halftime, both teams will play consistently ugly until Miami finally breaks through early in the fourth quarter. They will take a 16-13 lead, but a turnover will lead to a Browns field goal with about four minutes remaining. This 16-16 tie will remain the score all the way through the end of regulation.
Although the Browns have had issues finishing games in the recent past, one would figure this trend would not last forever. Somehow, some way, the Browns will find a way led by a monster performance from Terrelle Pryor and by far the best game played by their defense this season. In overtime, the Browns will turn the opening drive into three points, and a Tramon Williams interception will seal the ugly 19-16 overtime victory.
Tom Moore (2016 record: 2-0): Dolphins 21, Browns 3 Under normal circumstances the Cleveland Browns cheap jerseys from china would be catching a break today against the winless Miami Dolphins.
Miami’s offense is bad — 24th in the league overall, averaging just 17 points a game and 3.7 yards per carry in the running game. The defense — ranked 27th overall — is not much better as the Dolphins are next-to-last in stopping the run and only average against the pass.
Of course, this being the Browns, normal circumstances don’t apply.
Cleveland enters the game with rookie Cody Kessler making his first NFL start on the road, without top wide receiver Corey Coleman, and with one offensive lineman playing out of position (John Greco at center) and another offensive lineman playing a position he has never played before wholesale jerseys (Alvin Bailey at right guard).
Eight times before today the Browns have started a quarterback that they drafted and eight times they walked out of cheap jerseys those quarterbacks’ debut games with a loss.
Make it nine for nine as the Browns will fall to the Dolphins today, 21-3.
Roger Cohen (2016 record: 1-1): Dolphins 27, Browns 3 It would be the height of magical thinking to hope Cody Kessler comes off the bench to become this generation’s late-round fill-in superstar Tom Brady-like QB. Kessler will surpass my expectations if he 1) doesn’t throw more than one Pick Six interception 2) doesn’t gift wrap a strip sack TD fumble 3) completes more than 10 passes 4) for more than 100 yards. Oh, and if Kessler and new center John Greco can connect on more than 90 percent of their snaps, not just shotguns. Lofty goals, indeed.
Good news is the Browns won’t blow another PAT because the offense will be limited to one 30-something yard long field goal after safety Derrick Kindred snares his first NFL interception. The Dolphins open the game with a 80-yard drive and settle for a short FG, turn two Kessler turnovers into 10 more points for a 13-3 halftime lead.
An early third quarter fumble makes it 20-3 and Dolphins end the Browns’ misery with that Pick 6 in cheap jerseys china garbage time. After the 27-3 loss, Browns coach Hue Jackson opens the door for starting Charlie Whitehurst against the Redskins in Week 4.
Eric Szczepinski (2016 record: 1-1): Dolphins 28, Browns 14 Injuries have began to pile up on this young team, with key players such as Corey Coleman and Carl Nassib already missing time. The depth on this roster isn’t good enough to afford key losses.
Coach Hue Jackson will construct a run heavy game plan and try to call a friendly game around rookie quarterback Cody Kessler. Kessler will manage the game and lead the Browns on two scoring drives. However, that won’t be enough scoring for the Browns, as Ryan Tannehill and Jarvis Landry will be to0 much for the defense, especially with Joe Haden not at 100 percent.
Despite the key injuries, I expect the Browns to continue to compete hard and be in this football game late into the fourth quarter. But the youth and inexperience of this team will show throughout the game and the Dolphins will secure their first win of the season in front of their home fans.
Joel Cade (2016 record: 1-1): Dolphins 24, Browns 10 The Browns enter this game reeling from a series of injuries that occurred in practice. With all the bad luck that has befallen this team this week, one has to ask: Can this get any worse?
The Dolphins offense is a zone run based scheme with a west coast, short passing game as a compliment. wholesale jerseys china The zone run scheme should be old hat for the Browns as this will be the third week in a row they will face the scheme. The Browns have done an excellent job against this scheme the past two games. That trend should continue against the Dolphins.
However, the short passing game will give the Browns fits as they have failed to collision low crossers all season. Allowing receivers to run free over the middle of the field will be a disaster waiting to happen. It will be through the passing game the Dolphins will have their success.
On offense the Browns will need to attack the perimeter with sweeps, screens and draws in order to be successful against the Dolphins’ “Wide 9” 4-3 base look. The Dolphins have a terrific front seven that is very stingy against the run. However, the back end can be thrown on. It’s déjà vu all over again as this has been the Browns’ opponents’ strengths and weaknesses all season.
Although watching Cody Kessler play will be fun, there will not be much else to smile about as this one ends the same way the previous two have, Browns lose.
Matt Stevenson (2016 Record: 1-0): Dolphins 22, Browns 13 Rookie quarterback Cody Kessler is making his NFL debut against the Miami Dolphins after RGIII and Josh McCown are out with injuries. The offensive line has dramatically declined since last season and the Dolphins physical defense will seek to punish Kessler.
Ndamukong Suh, Cameron Wake and Mario Williams are a tough first matchup and with first-round pick Corey Coleman out, Kessler doesn’t have much to work with. Hopefully Gary Barnidge can support the rookie and find his 2015 form after two disappointing games to begin the season.
The Dolphins almost came back and beat the New England Patriots last week after injuring Jimmy Garoppolo, and will attempt to carry that momentum into their matchup with the Browns. Kessler has a lackluster debut but will survive the day and the Browns lose to the Dolphins, 22-13.
Steven Kubitza (2016 record: 1-1): Browns 20, Dolphins 16 Well, this should be an interesting one.
Based on the injuries and the two losses to start the season, it is not likely the Browns will win this game against the Dolphins. But this is the Browns we are talking about. The team that seems to pull off surprising wins nearly every season, only to fade toward the end when the injuries become too much to overcome.
Today seems like it will be one of those games. Cody Kessler is making his debut, but the Browns will establish the run game early with Isaiah Crowell, and Hue Jackson will successfully pull off some trick plays to stun the Miami defenders, who are expecting an easy game.
NEXT: Storylines to watch vs. Dolphins It may just be false hope, but Kessler will be able to manage this game, helped by a strong performance by his defense, and will prove why he is more than just an afterthought on the depth chart.
The Browns will pick up a win after last week’s disappointment, putting an cheap nfl jerseys end to the 0-16 talks in 2016.
