Army life can not be an easy life to willingly follow. Many are unable to come back home to their families, and those who do come home come with deep wounds, both physical and psychological.

Yet here you are, three years of military school completed, a diploma in your hand, and your drill sergeant congratulating you as he shakes your hand.

You're one of the few women graduating. Not because women are weak, but because the school is sexist. Oh, but you weren't gonna give them a single reason to deny your entry. You had the best grades in the physical and written exams, an excelent performance in the psychological exam, even tho you didn't really understand how someone could be graded based on their psychological behavior and way of thinking. After an unholy amount of effort, you were accepted in the academy a few cities away from your hometown. Graduation day was something you didn't just look forward to, but you worked hard every single day to achieve it.

The routine in the academy was fairly simple. Wake up at 0500, shower and basic hygiene, breakfast, and getting dressed to be in the field at 0600. From there, your drill sergeant was in charge of every single one of your movements. And if you answered wrong... Well, you'd be mopping rain. Answering wrong wasn't necessarily just being disrespectful, even tho that was not an exception. If the sergeant said one and you answered with two, but he wanted three, you'd be mopping rain. If the sergeant said sit and you sat, but he wanted you sat criss cross and you weren't, you'd be mopping rain. If the sergeant said move and you moved too much or too little, mopping rain. If the sergeant said woo and you didn't say waa, mopping rain... If the sergeant - Well, you get the drill already.

Ahaha, get it? Drill? Drill sergeant? Pls laugh

Back into the story, the academy wasn't too bad. A few messed up people here and there... A few friends here and there as well, but, in general, you were glad you worked as hard as you did to get where you were.

Oh, and nicknames. Well, callsigns are also a name for it. You know some cute ones from the academy, and, by cute, I mean unhinged and probably not a name you should call someone on the street.

Jasmin. A grown man who always shaved his beard and drank tea to relax in the morning. He was made fun of, naturally, in a good-natured way, for probably being gay.

Princess. A fully grown man, tall like a light post, trained every muscle you could imagine in the human body every single day.

Wasabi. Some dude who decided it was a good idea to eat a spoonful of wasabi.

Not all of them were strange, unhinged, and probably seen like an insult outside context. There were some normal and cool ones, too.

Fox. A guy who was sly like a fox.

Shark. A girl who got bit by a shark once.

Bell. Just some odd callsign for a person, but normal nonetheless.

And then there was you. Mouse. You'd gotten the callsign from your drill sergeant, who was constantly calling you "little mouse." It was an insult. Meant as an insult, said as an insult. Nothing about it was good. It was about calling you small, weak, useless, and a coward.

But did you turn the meaning around...

A mouse. In the Oxford Dictionary, a small rodent that typically has a pointed snout, relatively large ears and eyes, and a long tail.

In their eyes, you were weak, small, a coward, too dumb to do anything but eat cheese... like a mouse.

In your eyes, the definition was a bit different. Small? Perfect for stealth. Pointed snout, equivalent to a good sense of smell. Large ears? Listening in on enemy intel. Large eyes? Great sight and precision in shooting. A long tail? Well, you weren't sure what to make of that, but it wasn't necessarily bad. Tails help with balance, after all.

Your callsign had become Mouse. Everyone called you that. And in that day, in your graduation, it became your official callsign.

"Small mouse makes it to the top after all." Your drill sergeant mutters out through his thick mustache as he shakes your hand firmly, his calloused and rough fingers from years of experience wrapping around your strong hands, ready to become used up by the years in the army you were signing up for.

All you do is give him a soft, yet respectful smile, and a nod. You've learnt to keep your mouth shut. It's hard, but you manage. The mysterious vibe fits you better in those type of environments, anyway.

It was only a matter of time before you were deployed after graduation. After a lot, and I mean a lot of consideration over at the high tables, you were finally deployed. Six months in an out of country base, in Mexico, as a recruit of Task Force 141.

Okay, here! The character hasn't been revealed much at the moment, so there will be a lot of headcanons here.

One of the main problems is that Lute is very sticky to the rules and his sense of absolute justice.

What's your headcanons for the next gen kid's favorite shows or movies cuz I feel like Robin would be the type to be into Christopher Nolan movies for some reason

Yes! I think both Robin and Cooper would too!!! I haven’t really thought of this (well, except for Kate) yet, so this should be fun! I do have a general idea of what their favorites would be given their characterization/interests— but feel free to add your own thoughts or movie/show suggestions!

Cooper

I believe he’d like a lot of different genres, but he does gravitate towards movies and shows that are towards his interests in science and space, or when the topic is centered around death (in some way). He’s also the type of person to obsess over a show or movie if he can heavily relate to a character. Sometimes when he wants some white noise, he would have science documentaries in the background. As for his favorite kind of movies, think sci-fi action movies: Interstellar, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Zathura, Gravity, The Adam’s Project, The Last Mimzy, Arrival, It, Final Destination. He probably got obsessed with Zathura as a kid because of the space/game theme of the movie, so I can see that being his favorite childhood movie to the point of rewatching it a bajillion times. Some other shows and anime he’ll like: The Good Place, I Am Not Okay With This, Death Note, Dr. Stone, The Umbrella Academy, Mob Psycho 100, and let’s add The Magic School Bus for when he was a kid LMAOO. Okay, but Cooper would watch ‘I Am Not Okay With This’ and relate SO much with the main character 😭💔, it secretly becomes one of his favorite and he doesn’t tell anyone this (besides Isa, probably)(ifykyk). I can totally see Cooper watching a couple of novelas here or there for fun since he know spanish (ex: En Otra Piel— talks about death/bodyswap). One thing’s for certain, Cooper’s the type of person to pause movies/shows to give you some “erm, actually 🤓☝️did you know that—” type shit.

Robin

First and foremost, Robin is more of a book type of person instead of a movie person. She’s a little interesting because she’s okay with every genre, but the thing that makes her love a movie is if the movie itself makes her think! Like, if the movie has some sort of allegory or underlying message that you, the audience, have to dissect. A bit obsessed with Jordan peel movies, but she also enjoys movies that have badass women! Would definitely enjoy suspense/mystery and a bit of sad drama, and she’ll probably watch some true crime YouTube videos in the background. Some movie examples: Lucy, Nope, The Matrix, Knives out, The Menu, Black Swan, Parasite, Carrie, The Lovely Bones, Hide and Seek. I don’t think she’s much into shows, but I do think she’ll enjoy a couple (in theme): Black Mirror, The Queen’s Gambit, Squid Games, Girl from Nowhere, The Promise Neverland, Severance. Because of her appeal, she’s usually down to watch any kind of movie/show with all the others, and if she’s able to find little meanings and references, she’ll talk about it at the end of the films along with her honest opinion.

Isa

So fun indeed. Just like everyone, would watch anything, but absolutely enjoys movies/shows that give her a good chuckle. Pretty big on cartoons and anime for sure! Isa would also watch low budget and cringey movies for the fun of it ☠️ it’s why she has a love/hate relationship with the Twilight saga: “it’s so bad and cringe, I’m in love with it!” Some of her favorite movies would be: BASEketball, Shrek series, White Chicks, Superbad, Sonic, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, Nacho Libre, Deadpool. No but when she watched BASEketball, she definitely thought, “Hm, why do the main characters feel so… familiar…..🤨?” Shows and anime are pretty much the same idea: The Disasterous Life of Saiki. K, Brooklyn 99, Abbott Elementary, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Superstore, Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse, Smiling Friends, The Amazing World of Gumball. If South Park was real in their universe, she’ll watch that shit ☠️. Isa gets really passionate about films so she’d get pretty picky with plot holes and call out contradictions throughout the movie like “WHAT THE FUCK? That doesn’t even make any sense!! Literally earlier they said—”… Also, Isa is the type of person to predict a film before watching it too 😭, and it makes it so inconvenient whenever the group is on their way to watch a new movie.

Emilio

Now, if you asked Emilio if he has a favorite film, his answer would be: “no.” He doesn’t have a “favorite” movie, but he DOES like movies that keep him on his toes, so you could say that his preferred genre is suspense, thriller, and action. He enjoys a couple of old school superhero films, but he’s VERY picky with them (and I mean VERY) since he still wants the storyline to be enjoyable. The thing is— Emilio really hates it when there’s unnecessary romance plot in films that clearly don’t need it, so he ends up rolling his eyes when stuff like that happens. Most of the time, he just has NASCAR races in the background! Some of his movie of interest: Coraline, every Spider-Man film, Fight Club, Venom, A Quiet Place, Bird Box, Insidious, The Black Phone, Hush. Some shows and anime: Moon Knight, Jujutsu Kaisen, Hunter x Hunter, Arcane, Breaking Bad, Devilman Crybaby, The Haunting of Hill House. Honestly, it’s the only type of genres he actually locks in because he’s either enthralled with the action scenes or lowkey scared 😭✋. It’s why people think he likes horror— he doesn’t, but it’s just the only way his eyes never leave the screen. He tries to predict the jumpscares, but he STILL gets jumpy anyways☠️! Adrenaline rush much? When it involves horror films, he always watches it with Cooper because the guy seems to be interested to watch along? For some reason… 🤫

She is the queen of movie watcher 🗣️🗣️🗣️ !!! She’s probably watched all the movies I mentioned, and more! Of course, when the movies aren’t age appropriate, she’ll have to wait to watch it with Butters and/or Kenny to monitor what is being featured (it’s a deal they made). In the end, her favorite movies always end up being animated, old classics, musicals, or family centric films! In all honestly, she doesn’t mind watching anything— every genre can be cool in their own way! Some of her favorite films (in the many that she has): The Mitchells Vs. The Machines, Night at the Museum, og Jumanji, Ponyo, Nanny McPhee, Turning Red, Legally Blonde, The Croods, Hocus Pocus. Shows go the same way: The Owl House, Avatar The Last Airbender, She-Ra, Adventure Time, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Modern Family. Happy Weekend everyone :) Whew we are almost halfway through s3 already it's crazy. I love how when we get little content the previous ep the next one has loads. This is Lucy’s first real foray into UC. Seeing that deeper Harper/Lucy bond. Tim’s freak out and protectiveness. Such a good one for so many reasons. So many more gifs I wanted to use but sadly Tumblr keeps me to 30. They need to up that ha Oh well let’s get this started.

3x06 Revelations

Our ep starts out with Tamara and Lucy. Lucy making sure she gets at least one good dinner for the week. I just love their relationship so much. Tamara was such a good addition to the show. Adding some extra depth for Lucy. She is an excellent pseudo mom to her. Tamara asks if she can interview Lucy for a paper for school. Has to do with women in male dominated fields.

Lucy is adorable in her reply saying she's honored she’s asking her. How far these two have come. Lucy says she should be off early tomorrow. Let's Tamara know she’s just doing site security with Tim. It’s for the CCOA. Basically a convention for UC cops. I did love her saying ‘My Sergeant’ when explaining her work plans tomorrow. Made me happy. Yes he is. In more ways than one. Heh

We first join our lovely duo running security checks at the entrance. Lucy asking if Tim does this every year? Tim tells her no but he went with Isabel once to this. Look our boy bringing up Isabel casually. Being the one to and not have it bring him down. I'm so proud of him. Doesn’t phase him like it used to. Not only that but he’s cracking jokes over here.

Saying he just worked on his tan while Isabel attended seminars haha Replying to her question about what they teach here with sass. Tim tells her he has no idea but he's clearly having fun with his reply. Lucy still isn’t used to his sassy side. Her reaction above says it all. You did this lady hehe Enjoy the fruits of your labor madam.

Their lighthearted moment is interrupted by an old friend of Tim’s. He drives up like a bat out of hell. Tim is excited to see him (at first...) Tim is in such a good mood when he rolls up. Just outside cracking jokes with his girl having a good time. Even introduces Lucy (by her first name BTW) to his friend proudly. Shortly after their reunion Tim realizes the girl in the car is not his wife….

She blatantly hits on him calling him pretty. I mean he is. Look at the man. I’ve said before he is sex on stick. Mack notes he only gets prettier with age. He's not wrong...it’s true. Loved Eric since his DOOL days. Was in love with him then as a teenager and even more so now ha So that is accurate. Aged like a fine ass wine. *chef kiss*

Tim pulls Mack aside and wants to talk. Lets him know if he wants to run around on his wife that's his business. But he looks high as a kite. I love the way Lucy watches the interaction. Already in protect Tim emotionally mode. Mack tells him it's just oxy. He got hurt on the job month ago and the pain is a bear.

He takes off before Tim can say more and the look of worry on Lucy's face only increases. She can tell Tim is shook up about seeing his old friend this way. It’s affecting him more than he would like. I think he must’ve been in the academy with Tim. To watch someone you used to be close fall from grace is never easy to watch. Especially when it's so closely related to what Isabel was like.

Lucy spies on Harper giving a lecture to potential female UC’s in the making. You can see her interest is piqued. Harper even spots her before she shuts the door. Cracks me up the way she jumps when Tim catches her. I always love me some arm crossed disapproving Tim. Mmm. gimme. His emotions are written all over his face. They honestly color his attitude for almost the entirety of this episode. He’s not upset she snuck a peak. He’s upset she’s interested in UC. The way he looks back that that sign says it all. A sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach has settled and its not going anywhere.

This next scene we start to see Tim’s demons about UC surface a little. That good mood of his is long gone. He immediately confronts her about it. Asking her if she was spying in on seminars? She can’t lie to save her life when he looks at her. She adorably replies maybe…She's so excited by the prospect of UC she isn’t picking up on the stress Tim is throwing down in this scene.

He chews her out a little for spying and why it was wrong. I think we all know this has zero to do with the spying. That it 100 percent has to do with the subject matter that’s peaked her interest. He is trying to cut this off at the pass. He is not remotely excited about her being interested in UC at all..

We return to our couple reporting to Mack’s room. His wife Beth is banging on the door. His mistress won’t let her in. Tim doesn't have time for this and kicks the door down. Oh my. He runs inside and sees Mack has OD’d. Lucy goes and gets the Narcan to revive him. Mack comes to and is begging his wife to stay. He is so very out of it. His wife storms off saying she can’t do this anymore. Ugh poor Tim. The look he shares with Lucy kills me. The pre-tears and all. The fact that he's upset and looks back at her for support. My heart. This was not how he envisioned spending this day. It was supposed to be an easy security site job that turned into so much more.

Tim rejoins Mack at the hospital. He is so very angry with him. His pre-tears are killing me in these scenes with Mack. Poor Tim this ep is bringing up a lot of demons for him. Ones he truly thought he was putting behind him. Not just UC ones either. Telling Mack he’s not making the same mistakes he did with Isabel. Tim has made major strides when it comes to her but those scars still linger. They’re not gone and probably never will be fully. I’m sure he still tortures himself about his inaction with her. He won't do that again. To Tim this is a way to make up for that. Atone for that sin.

Lucy is leaving for the day when she spots Harper waiting at her car. Now I said when Harper joined the show how excited I was. That her and Lucy’s relationship was one of those reasons. These are the moments that I love so much. Harper is straight with her and says 'You know we’re gonna have to talk about it right?' Clearly referring to her sneaking a peak.

Lucy thinks Harper is there to scold here just like Tim did. The beautiful thing about this scene is she doesn’t. Nyla encourages and supports her UC aspirations. This is where she becomes her UC mentee really. After Lucy explains why she peaked in Harper can’t help but want to help Lucy with this.

Can sense her genuine excitement about it. Even agrees to drinks to talk about it. Hell it’s her idea how far we’ve come ❤️ Lucy postpones her interview with Tamara to go out with Nyla. Harper then gets a distress call from one of her old UC contacts. Asks if Lucy wants to come instead of a rain check on drinks? She jumps on this offer immediately. Wanting to see first hand what an operation is like.

Harper sends Lucy into the bar solo while she spots the tail on her friend. Lucy looks so amped to prove herself. She finds June or ‘Coco’ as she’s known right now at the bar. Sato joins the table immediately after Lucy does. Obviously he is the tail June has been worried about. The balls on Lucy in this moment. If Tim could see her right now he would have a friggin heart attack. Lucy throws a damn drink in his face.

She covers her ass so well and pretends she’s the chemist. Really smart move on her end. Even though he buys Lucy’s story Sato and his guard make them both move outdoors. Harper is waiting in the wings like the BAMF she is. Takes out Sato’s guard easily. Harper tells Coco there’s a tracker on her car. They must be cops. Sato is now the one in trouble saying they’re not. Salonga his boss just wanted them surveilled.

Coco up's the price for pissing them off. He tells them if they do the price hike Lucy better be at the buy. Harper tries to shield Lucy. Telling them she doesn’t go on buys. Crazy how good she is at this right away. Harper notices the immediate potential in her. They tell her she better bone up on chemistry. She beams like the nerd we all know and love. Says she got straight A’s in chemistry in high school. Of course you did haha Lucy gets so caught up in the moment she forgets she was supposed to do the report with Tamara. Oops.

Tim comes to Grey’s office about his report on Mack. Wade is asking him if he’s sure he wants to do it this way? Tim so desperate to right the wrong he did with Isabel he doesn’t hesitate. Says it’s the right thing to do. That it’s what he should’ve done with Isabel in first place. He warns him he'll lose his pension. Tim continues on says its right thing to do. Grey doesn’t disagree. Wade then tells him Lucy will be occupied with a UC op today. He is none too pleased about this and quickly heads to roll call room.

Tim acting like a mad worried husband from here on out. He is SEETHING above. That determined strut and crossing of his arms. His whole demeanor screaming his discontent. Anger ready to spill over onto Harper. So very worried because Lucy has volunteered for a UC op and a very dangerous one at that. He doesn’t hide his stress in the least. Lucy has become such a fixture in his life at this point. To potentially risk losing her to a UC op like he did Isabel…He can't handle the idea of it. The rest of this scene reflects that.

His demons coming out to play extra hard in this one for him. Lucy looks so excited when she's asked to stand up. She's so ready to prove herself. She is just excited in general. Then she turns around and sees Tim’s disapproving stance and stare. She freezes immediately and instantly feels reprimanded. Looks back at him one more time and sees his body language hasn't changed. Tim is emanating anger and Lucy knows it. Whew lord. He’s ready to eat Harper.

Before we move on let's take a moment to enjoy the forearm porn we’re getting here in the gif above. Hot damn. Arms are crossed, biceps bulging and his forearms look toned as hell. Sweet baby James should be a crime to be this attractive. But let’s get back to the episode before I gawk at him any further LMAO

The very SECOND the meeting is over Tim is all over Harper. Pushes off the wall and storms toward her. He is ready to tear her a new one about allowing this. Let’s remember this episode has been VERY rough on Tim to this point. It’s like he’s being forced down memory lane in the worst way possible. With maximum PTSD. He started the ep casual, having fun with Lucy. Even bringing up Isabel at a UC convention without it bothering him. Then Mack showed up and dominoes started to fall and haven't stopped. This scene is his boiling point with good reason.

From Mack who’s his friend forcing him to relieve his trauma with Isabel. Having to make an ethical call about his career due to him becoming an addict. To Lucy going undercover which he feels she was roped into. She wasn’t but he’s not exactly thinking straight right now. It's what happens when our emotions drown us. The logical part of our brain disconnects and all that’s left is intense suffocating emotion. Lashing out trying to get some semblance of control.

We also need to remember the last time he was involved in a UC op Isabel was shot in the head. Almost died. His PTSD is crying out in his scene. Harper tries to calm Tim down by saying she volunteered, Grey approved it and she has the best backup she could possibly have. The thing is though no matter of logic is going to penetrate his panic right now. Tim telling Harper she’s using Lucy and he’s losing his mind over it. He felt Isabel was used in her OP and now those feelings are bleeding over into Lucy’s. He is showing all his cards emotionally in this scene. The sheer terror he feels over Lucy going under cover. He doesn't want to lose her to same thing.

I love the writers for tapping back into these issues of his. They don’t just go away. They tend to linger on for a long time. They’ve left deep scars on him. This shows how raw this nerve still is for Tim. Now to top his day off they’re throwing his person into the one thing he fears the most. Lucy has become the one constant in his life. This incredibly resilient sunshine person that has become so important to him. He can’t stand the thought of being hurt or worse. His fears from 2x19 echoing in this scene. About not being about to protect her. To losing her and him having no say in the result.

I don’t think Tim even understands why he’s reacting this way. Most of their relationship he is like this. Acts without understanding the why behind it. Only that it is a driving force for him. It's not until 4x22 he starts to understand why he acts the way he does with her. He only knows right now it’s instinctual and he can’t stop himself from letting it out.

Lucy looks absolutely crushed by the time he says his line about her being used. The look they share before before he walks away. It's crushing to say the least. We all know how badly she wants to impress him. For him to be proud of her and what she’s accomplished to even be in this OP. Tim has always had her back. Supported her and truly seen her as a person. Had unrelenting faith in her this entire time. To not have that in this moment is rocking her entire world.

I adore Nyla for how she helps Lucy after Tim hastily departs. She’s the best mentor Lucy could have. I love these moments between them. The way she tells her it’s Tim’s issues not her. (It’s true but also it being Lucy adds tons of fuel to the fire for him) Lucy feeling stupid for wanting him to be proud. Harper is so wonderful in validating how she is feeling.

Doesn’t shame her for wanting Tim’s approval. That he got her this far. It makes sense she would want that. Tells her there is NOTHING wrong with it. Such a good scene for them. Why I love their dynamic so much. Harper is so good for Lucy and her confidence building. She covers what Tim can't. What I love about it. These were the scenes I was so excited to get to once she was on the show for these reviews.

Tim and Nolan have joined the op to surveil overhead. No way in hell he wasn’t going to be apart of this. I'm sure after that scene with Harper no one was going to stand in his way. Also how else could obsessively keep his eye on her if he’s at the station? Hehe Nolan thinks he’s helping by comforting Tim in this scene. Sorry John you don’t know him like that and his replies show it.

He is gruff, deflects and is cocky in his replies. All things he does with those he’s not comfortable around. Only Lucy gets soft Tim. I will commend Nolan for having the balls to say anything though. The gall of Tim to say 'Who said I was worried?’ Uh only anyone who’s interacted with you since this whole thing started. LOL The way you bit off Harpers head in front of a room full of people. But sure love you’re not worried…

Eric is so amazing in this scene. His face says the opposite of 'not worried' His stiff body language encompassing all his immense worry. Side note let’s not ignore the amazing shots of his jawline in this scene. Could cut glass on that thing. All scruffy too mmm love it lick it like a lollipop. Ahem anyways...His continued annoyance with Nolan shows as the scene goes on.

Especially when he tells Tim about how Lucy can handle herself. Tim is VERY aware of how capable she is. It’s why he’s a little offended in his reply. He seems annoyed Nolan even mentions she can handle it. As if he's telling Tim this for the first time. Like he hasn't ridden with her pretty much every day for a year plus. He's watched her develop into who she is now. He knows dude. Nobody knows it better than Tim Bradford how damn capable she is ya schmuck...(Oops my Nolan annoyance is showing) It’s what shakes him the most with her interest in UC. That she’s going to excel at it and that scares the hell out of him.

He is playing the worried husband to the letter. Easy Tim your feelings are showing. Showing enough that John Nolan who is usually scared of you is commenting on it. John is doing it to comfort Tim which I respect. But for Tim when it's not Lucy he isn't as receptive. As I stated about earlier he is only going to deflect, be cocky and gruff in his replies. Hence his line above. Tim isn’t going to be able to relax or breathe till she’s on the other side of this. So until then he is going to ward off Nolan and his compassion by being self assured. That he trained her so he’s not “worried". Whatever gets you through love.

Lucy acts like a complete bad ass during the whole thing. No surprise. Gets pulled into the limo with the boss and holds her own. Even speaks Tagalog impressing Salonga even further. Writes out the formula and preserves the OP. Doesn’t take long before she’s released and they’re given the money. That’s when everyone swoops in and arrests everyone. I read in theflyingdutchwoman’s amazing analysis in their anatomy Of a scene series (if you haven't read her stuff I highly recommend it) about Tim bailing on his post during this section. I couldn’t agree more I have no doubt the minute she stepped into that limo his ass was off that rooftop immediately. Ready to go when she needed him.

Tim is in fierce protector mode until he reaches Lucy. Then breathes a sigh of relief. Morphing into soft Tim instantly. Only for her. He quietly asks her if she’s ok? That small set of words exposing EVERYTHING about how he’s feeling. The anxiety and how stressed he was till this moment. She nods fervently and his body continues to relax. What follows this is so sweet. Let’s admire the way he holds her cuffed hands.

How gentle he is with her as he escorts her to the shop. He could have put his hands on her arms or elbow like Nyla got with Nolan. But then Nolan isn’t in in love with Nyla…He legit held her hands all the way to the patrol car. I love it sfm. Like he needed to do this to ground himself after the adrenaline rush he just experienced. Proving to himself that she’s there. She’s safe and he can relax.

Then comes the more beautiful part of the scene and really the episode if you ask me. Lucy isn’t expecting anything from Tim in this moment. Last time she saw him was his outburst about her even doing this. Then in the most Tim Bradford-esc way he voices how very proud he is of her. By telling her ‘You did good.’ To anyone else might not mean much. Or seem like much. To Lucy Chen it means the entire world. She knows Tim’s hang ups with UC. The demons he had arise with this. She also knows he’s putting aside those feelings to let her know he’s proud of her. Which is HUGE.

Because at the end of the day this OP was about Lucy and building her confidence in this area. He wants her to know that and does so. She craves his approval and support so much. Let’s not forget she grew up in an emotionally abusive household as well. Parents who withheld praise and support for anything she did. Never proud her. (I know that life) It’s why Tim’s approval means so damn much to her.

Why she lives and strives for it. Tim has had nothing but unconditional faith and support in her since day one. When he blew up about her doing this she thought she had lost that. These three words restore that for her. I don’t think Tim even knew the depth of how much him being proud of her meant. Ugh these idiots. I love them and their slow burn sfm. To round out the scene I adore Nyla’s wink at the end. She is also so very proud of Lucy. Handled herself like a damn pro. I love her so much for the impact she has on Lucy it’s unreal.

Poor Tim (said this a lot but seriously this ep is hard on him) has the episode end pretty roughly for him. Beth comes to find him and rip him a new one. Tim tells her he can’t excuse the past. But this is now and he stands by what he did. It calls back to 3x04 when he was telling Lucy the same thing. That he can’t fix what he did then but would make sure it wouldn’t happen again.

This situation is proof of that. Doing for Mack what he should’ve done for Isabel. It’s awful to watch her tear him apart. But the right thing and the easy thing are rarely the same. Unfortunately this is very true for Tim in this instance. He ends this ep on a low note and I just wanna hug him.

For Lucy it ends better. She makes up the report for Tamara by providing not just herself but Nyla and June for her repot as well. It’s cute to watch Tamara absorb all their banter. I love Lucy’s speech here it’s so good. Praising the women next to her in a way Tamara is revering them all. It's perfect way to the ep for them both. Such a good one.

Movies watched in 2024, a selection - Thoughts

Favs

It's a Wonderful Life - A true classic! If you haven't seen it yet, you absolutely should. It's great for Christmas, but it can truly be watched anytime you like.

Death on the Nile (1978) - Such a delight! So many great actors - a young Maggie Smith! I love Peter Ustinov as Hercule Poirot. I need to watch the other movies where he portrays the Belgium detective as well. Angela Lansbury truly has the time of her life here!

Dr Mabuse, der Spieler (1922) - A great crime story, a great cast, such a great set of characters! The original is amazing, don't get me wrong, but I would love to see a remake of it. Still set in the 20s.

Shooting Stars (1928) - What a surprise this movie was! The ending is so good! More people should know about it.

The Trial of the Chicago Seven: I love this movie! I should rewatch it more often. It kind of feels nostalgic, as if it was a big success in the 90s. It probably would have been a great hit in the 90s, but now it's a Netflix movie - that more people should watch really.

Lord of the Rings SEE - What can I say? These movies are my second home. They're soul food.

Buster Keaton: I kind of fell in love with him and his stoic humour this year. Have watched several of his movies and I can definitely recommend them. Sherlock Junior, Steamboat Bill Jr., The Cameraman, The General. His movies are surprisingly fast-paced for their time. Definitely like him better than Chaplin.

Also worth a watch:

Dune 1 and 2: Truly amazing movies and I'm looking forward to Part 3. But it doesn't really get to my emotions. It's too high art to become one of my favs, if you get what I mean. Some pieces of art are amazing but you don't want to put them in your living room.

Jaws: Watched it for the first time this year and was surprised that I actually liked it. Would have enjoyed it back in the day, too, I think, but I was kind of afraid of it's reputation. Can recommend.

Frau im Mond / Woman on the Moon (1929): About 100 years later, some of the ideas shown in this movie seem ridiculous. But everything you see is actually based on what scientists thought to be true about the moon in 1929. This movie also gives us the first count DOWN to zero. I don't really like the ending, but all in all, a great movie.

Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari (1920) - This movie has an aesthetic and it does the most with it. And it definitely is worth a watch.

Wings (1927) - Looking into the very first Academy Awards Ceremony made me curious to watch this movie, and it's definitely worth a go. It might not be for everyone, but it is noteworthy that whenever you see someone fly a plane, that's the actors actually flying the plane ... !

Miss Potter: What a sweet little surprise of a movie this was, including a surprise appearance of Lloyd Owen. Renee Zellwegger is just great at playing eccentric British women.

The Phantom of the Opera (1925/1929): I think this is great because this is definitely an adaptation of the book (which also shows how close to the book the musical actually is). I love that the phantom actually has a messed-up face, because in modern movie versions the face never really looks that bad. So the whole "oh my God, a horrible monster" never makes much sense to me.

La passion de Jeanne D'Arc (1928): I can see how this movie isn't for everyone, but I was surprised at myself that I was basically glued to the screen watching this.

i’m a british teenager who enjoys acting and english literature. i love writing poetry and i talk far too much. people used to say it was because i had such a wide imagination and that a lot went on in my head that i don’t process. now, however, when i am not alone i don’t think. i’m bad at processing my thoughts, so i tend to just live in the moment. i feel most like myself when i’m on a stage performing, with my best friend, laughing, or making people smile, and i try to find myself or others in everything around me. i consider myself to be somewhat of a neil perry from peter weirs dead poets society. i also consider myslef as somewhat of a charlie kelmeckis (the perks of being a wallflower) and a jo march (little women). i think if i were a song it would be forever young by alphaville, i can imagine that being my song in an 80s coming of age/comedy film. i mean it is my favourite song of all time now, but real life in 2024 is nowhere near as cool. on the topic of films, my favourite scene in cinematic history is neil perry’s monologue scene in dead poets society where he talks about his dream of being an actor (me too neil). however, the art museum scene in ferris buellers day off with the instrumental of the dream academy’s please please please let me get what i want is my favourite moment in cinematic history without speech. in particular, when cameron is staring at the girl in the painting and seeing himself in her. the whole idea is that the more he looks at the girl in the painting the less she becomes and the less he is able to see. he fears that the more people look at him he will get the same fate as the painting. to finish off some of my vague favourites, my favourite writing of any sort whatsoever is sylvia plaths idea of the fig tree analogy in the bell jar, i reference it in almost everything i write, thus it’d be wrong not to give it its rightful mention here. if you have not read the bell jar, or know of this analogy, i highly recommend. i’ll show you an extract about the analogy beneath.

on the dangers of romance novels and how they indoctrinate us

Women spend their entire lives being encouraged to think and value love first. Finding a man, getting married, having kids is supposed to be their ultimate goal in life. The promise of a happy ever after. The fairy tales that are told in childhood encourage this notion and instill within us a romanticized idea of love and relationships. These fairy tales encourage girls to give the beast the benefit of the doubt, to kiss the frog even though it disgusts her, because if only she is patient enough, loving enough, her love can transform him into a prince. In teenage years, this simple idea or dynamic is elaborated on in developmentally appropriate literature specifically targeting a young female audience. 

Books like Twilight, Marked, and Vampire Academy where the heroine bucks social convention, gets ensnared by an older, attractive and dangerous man despite all the warning signs and red flags. She goes on an adventure, typically they have some interpersonal conflict that they must resolve, she gets hurt or kidnapped, he saves her, they fall in love and affirm their relationship.

The typical romance novel structure, but with a few extra steps. However, the common theme consists of the protagonist ultimately being rewarded for ignoring common sense and intuition telling her not get involved with this man for her own safety. While I am in no way implying that girls are unintelligent or incapable of separating real life from fiction, it is simply to be expected that said girls will internalize the messages they are continuously fed and to some degree, repeat them in their own lives. They’ll give the creepy guy, the possessive, pushy or mildly violent boyfriend the benefit of the doubt and assume social awkwardness or an inability to communicate instead of recognizing his actions as abusive, overt, dangerous and a sign to reach out for help either from police or parents. 

Another worrying factor of teen romance is how much of it is secret, clandestine and kept out of view of the parents or any responsible adult. Occasionally the responsible adult is the love interest like in Vampire Academy, where the protagonist strikes up a relationship with her teacher which oddly enough also happens in Marked.

The parents have no influence or consistent presence. Either they’re dead, far away or just inept. Bella Swan’s mother Renee has remarried and ships her daughter off to Forks, where she herself reported hated living. Irresponsible at best, but most importantly distant and far removed. Bella’s father, Charlie is the police chief and should be able to recognize red flags and danger, but is well-meaning, socially awkward and just as uninvolved in his daughter’s life as his ex-wife is, despite living under the same roof. Both Marked and Vampire Academy takes place in a boarding school and the responsible adults are exceptionally uninvolved in anything outside teaching classes and scheming against the protagonist somehow. A bunch of young teenage vampires just left to their own devices, what could go wrong?  

Many papers have been written about the unhealthy and abusive relationship dynamics represented in Twilight. The series of both House of the Night and Vampire Academy both have situations in which the/a love interest is out to kill them. The teacher-turned-lover is presumed dead but has been turned into an ‘evil’ kind of vampire and the protagonist, instead of dealing with his death healthily and moving on, sets out to find him and she does. A fight ensues, she loses, and he takes her hostage, keeps her confined for several days and plans to turn her into one of his kind. She plans to kill him to put him out of his misery, but recognizes that even in his evil state, he loves her, wants her, cares about her. Through trial and error, her love and determination turns him back into a normal vampire. She has kissed the frog and he has turned into a prince. She has braved the Beast, proven her loyalty and love, and been rewarded with a normal loving boyfriend who she lives happily ever after with. 

These books can essentially be said to aid in normalizing and getting used to the idea of a significant other being a danger to you. The reader follows the protagonist as she gets used to the idea of falling in love and being in a relationship with someone who is more than capable of killing her. Who is actively a threat to her. Who stalks her, sabotages her car, watches her sleep through her window or after breaking into her room. Who places the blame and responsibility on her for being irresistible. 

In adulthood women are more jaded, they have reservations and don't expect much from their husbands. However they still seek out the emotional satisfaction that they cannot find in their relationship in romance books.

The act of reading romance literature thus becomes what is called ‘a ritual of hope’ in reading the romance. It reassures its audience of the possibility of the ideal relationship and love. It provides a fantasy in which the reader’s emotional and physical needs are met. Unlike in reality where the sex is at best unsatisfactory and at worst, traumatizing. Their husbands are dirty, selfish and haven't lifted a finger to help out with chores in years, but whines every second day about their dead bedroom.

Of course women escape into worlds in which the partnership is somewhat equal and balanced.

So romance literature reinforces the ideas that were impressed upon us as children – he’s only mean to you because he likes you – and normalizes callous, even abusive, behavior by reframing it or making excuses for it. He only did that because he misunderstood her, implying she should forgive him, implying the one at fault is her, implying that the responsibility for his behaviour is hers, in the end. Romance literature normalizes rape, apologizes for it. It provides a world that reinforces the idea that all women are destined for heterosexual marriage, children and the domestic sphere.

It reinforces those behaviours which are esteemed by a patriarchal culture, encourages its readers to attempt to live by them and warns them away from unwanted behaviour by assigning it to unlikable characters or by dooming them to an unfortunate end. Compensatory and instructive literature indeed.

You Should Commit... Murder? Is it murder? Glad I'm Not Involved...

But... I will give a perspective. This might shake the world or in the least show a different thought to the Abortion topic. Let me speak before you yell at me.

For decades, I got the notion that girls who had that naughty sinful unprotected sex before marriage; they go and get an abortion. (Bye twerp, didn't sign off on you existing; just wanted that "good-good") That is where the problem first is applied. If you make it that girls/women are accountable and it is either no sex or baby could happen. Done here.

Since the drapes got ripped open, the ones fighting for abortion to be legalize is due to: mom is having complications, baby could not make it, mom and baby are in peril, rape victims and incest "heathens". Those are the ones who should have it / are wanting abortions to exist and be instated.

Problem. Big problem. Yes, your body is yours. True. But what about the one that was forming? The ones who would die anyways, not a part of this. The ones we should be concerned about are the ones that weren't doing anything and are being birthed from a bad situation. WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE. A doctor who invented something to save lives? A scientist that cured cancer?! A politician or many who discharged the old geezers from office and address Global Warming in the late 80s so it is not a problem?! That is the problem. To eliminate the baby to be should have consequences. (That we do not know)

If you want to play "God", fine. We need a machine that can tell the future potential of the baby / zygote. Then you can eliminate it if it amounts to nothing. If the baby would become a scientist and find breakthroughs while the mom is a clerk in a Stuckeys.... guess not is being "aborted", not the baby. Sorry. The technology would worsen things but show that you are ridding possibilities. Delaying the change and progress that we sadly need. The machine would turn the doctors or the wielders into a wannabe god. But hey, you might get that abortion if your kid amounts to nothing. But if they have the "assigned" potential to do something great, you will be having that child. After that, you would get money and kicked to the curb. No, you don't get to see the child ever again. You wanted to aborted them. (Hopefully with the machine, there will be a financial decision to make an orphanage academy where the baby gets mass potential than the average that they would get with the one who is like "have no money or etc".)

The rape victims. There is always this verse: Genesis 29:33 She said, “The LORD has given me this son also, because he heard that I was not loved”; Given there is a bit more content however some pastors point to this verse. God gave you that child because the man did not love you. Might also be just your body following the biological setup. But should the child really be punished because of the father or you think you are not ready to be a mother. Didn't Tupac say how beautiful it is that a rose is growing from concrete is. It happened for a reason. The result should not be negated. All actions affect the world we live in.

In the end, it is about "your body, your choice". It should be "will this abortion affect the world in any way or is the person trying to be born is just a nobody who don't deserve to be born?" Sounds harsh, doesn't it? Well that is the truth. Abortions are good for those who seek it but bad for the rest of the world if the person that would result from it could impact the world making it a bit better by their existence.

Probably just the wrong idea but ... it is just a mere opinion. Maybe a screwed opinion. The calculations are sadly on point. But might just by a hard wake up call for those who are too into their bodies to care.

You didn't know what else to say, feeling ashamed. Who cared about your family circumstances? Definitely not Steve Rogers, a man you met just a couple of weeks ago and who knew nothing about you. Why did you say something like that in the first place?

You didn't wanna look at his face and see him feeling guilty because he didn't know how to comfort you. You didn't need to be comforted. You didn't need anything at all. It was just a simple cold, right?

Despite that, you suddenly started talking from beneath your blankets, "I have a younger brother. When he was born, we found out he was having severe asthma. His childhood was terrible, he had constantly been sick, I remember him being in and out the hospital all the time. Of course, because of his condition, my parents spent most of the time with him. He was just a little sick kid."

You hated yourself for talking, for showing something to Steve he shouldn't have known because he wasn't your friend, but you couldn't force yourself to stop.

"On the other hand, I am lucky to have good health. I didn't really got very sick, so, well, I didn't need help like my brother. So, I'm used to taking of myself. I'm a big girl, I don't need my mom to dance around me just because I have a cold."

Of course, you didn’t. You were perfectly capable of taking care of yourself, and even of Steve didn't show up, you'd be alright by yourself. You'd just take your acetaminophen, and then everything would be ok.

You kept silent, staring at the inside of the blanket and wishing Steve would just disappear, leaving you to your misery. You didn’t see his face, and you were glad you didn't. What he must think about you? That you were craving for his attention like a spoiled kid? Shit, it was so embarrassing. You were an adult, for goodness sake!

"I don't know about you, but when I had a flu sachet, it would make me fall asleep really quick. And when I was feeling sleepy, I would start thinking about the things I loved most because I hoped I would see them in a dream." Instead of feeling ever more ashamed, you listened to Steve's soft voice and thought you were lucky it was him being here with you now. "It actually worked, and I have been having my best dreams when I was asleep, sick. What are the things you love most?"

Surprised, you looked up at him and saw the most gentle expression on a face of a guy you had ever met. Why did he look at you like that? Why was there no pity on his face? Why was it making you cry like you were a ten year old kid? Before he could see anything, you hid beneath the blanket again and kept silent for a couple of moments to calm down.

"I love lemon pies my grandma used to make me, and her garden. She had tomatoes and cabbage and strawberries that smelled like summer. I loved watering them nearly every day because I thought I was a little forest witch who lived in her pretty cottage in the woods."

You didn't know why you were telling him this, but Steve has a strange effect on you. Or was it cold? You had no idea, but it didn’t really matter. All you were thinking about was the way fresh tomatoes smell when you'd leaned down to water them, and the sound of bees flying above strawberry's flowers. Your grandma was taking care of her cabbage - a very capricious guest in her garden - and you could hear her working, cursing grandpa for making the patches too wide in that funny voice of hers. Then she'd stood up, wiped the sweat with the back of her hand, and called you to come back to the cottage because if was time for dinner. You'd run to wash your hands in a barrel of water near the big apple tree when grandma didn't see, and soon you were sitting with her, eating her famous cabbage soup and then having a piece of a lemon pie because you worked so well today.

You could almost feel the taste on the tip of your tongue.

By the time you woke up, Steve was long gone: it was the middle of the night, and instead of him you saw a thermos with a still warm chicken soup on a chair, waiting for you. He sent you a message that you could call him at any time of the day - or night - and that he wanted you to have a bit more sleep to get better. After you had a few more sips of his soup, you fell asleep again, feeling warm and fuzzy.

The weekend went fast. It was the first time in several years you spent so much time in bed. Steve kept appearing at your door from time to time with a new bags of food despite you telling him you had your own, but he always insisted you should it something fresh and warm. Surprisingly, he wasn't the only one at your door: Thor suddenly showed up with his whole team, bringing you notes for the upcoming exams they collected altogether, apparently. Loki sent you a message if you needed anything, and Peter left contacted you on Instagram, leaving you links to games you could play so you wouldn't feel bored. Even Bucky gave you a call, asking if he could come and give you a few packs of Neo Citran for your cold, but you kindly refused: Steve literally brought you a yearly supply of this.

It was strange. Of course, when you were in high school, your friends grew worried about you when you had been sick, but there was nothing else to it. Wasn't it always like this? Nobody came to see you. Nobody brought you soup or gave you meds or anything. Despite feeling embarrassed, you realized you actually liked it when somebody was close to you like that. It was comforting seeing Steve popping up and not having to worry about how pretty you looked: he laughed when he saw you getting all shy because you were in your pyjamas. He said he definitely didn't expect you laying on your bed in an evening gown.

Before you realized it, you were already getting better. It was just a cold, really. Soon your throat was no longer sore, and while you were still sneezing, your temperature dropped down to normal, so on Monday you were ready to come back to school as planned. Funny enough, you no longer cared if you passed your exams, having 100%. You didn’t talk about it with Steve, but Peter was laughing like crazy about that when you told him.

Funny. They no longer looked so scary to you. They were just a couple of boys, weren't they? Regardless all those scary rumors and stuff, they were just guys. Maybe they were weird and stupid and a little bit scary because you didn't know them, they were still alright. Thor said it to you, didn't he?

Monday was Bucky's day, so, once you were done dressing, he nocked at your door: you were feeling a bit shy, watching him in that leather jacket and torn jeans he kept wearing the whole year around, apparently. Barnes looked like a teenage girl's dream. He smelled like cigarettes - although he said he was trying to quit - and pinewood. Just like Thor, he liked to skip classes he didn't enjoy much, but he was smart enough to pass the exams. Funny enough, he had a motorcycle.

Again, you wondered how come girls weren't coming from a city on a bus just to go see him.

"Are you sure you’re feeling better?" He asked you softly. "You can stay home today."

"No, no, I'm perfectly alright, thank you! How are you?" Smiling, you closed the door and hid the key in your bag.

"I'm good, thank you."

He didn't speak much, but as you walked in silence, you thought it was comforting - not talking at all and feeling good about it. While Bucky looked like a scary biker, in fact, his calm and friendly demeanor only helped you relax around him. Besides, it was funny how students seemed to give him way whenever they saw him, and you thought if Steve was the King, then Bucky was the Knight.

Before you went into the your classroom, he suddenly stopped you, "Listen, I wanted to say I have your stuff."

You blinked, "What stuff?"

You didn't give him any of your stuff. Actually, after Steve gathered you all in the student council room, you only met Bucky this morning for the first time.

"The stuff those freaks took. Your... your clothes, I mean." He muttered under his breath, and you gaped at him.

Your underwear. He found your bra and panties those guys took from your room.

"Wait... how?" Staring at Bucky who, apparently, was feeling a bit embarrassed talking about it, you thought how on Earth he got those things.

There was only one way he could, right?

"Bucky, was it you who beat those guys?"

It took him a couple of seconds to turn his face to you and then sigh, "Yes, it was me."
