i have to wait basically a whole month to get to this chapter and i am going insane with impatience at the sight of this thumbnail holy shit
#the mighty extra#they're meeting!!!#the dragon bois are meeting!!!#they're all going to be in the same room for once!!!#and the comment that's like “the three of them are getting ready to meet their lovers...but Ellie and Helene won't accept it easily”#YOU GET ME#ngl all 3 ships with the dragon bois are fun#Fian/Lyla is actually pretty neat as a ship even past the point of being an established relationship which is new to me lol#Daniel/Ellie is just really dumbly cute. greedy ass merchant x benevolent and socially dense dragon is precious ngl#Paris/Helene is red flag hell from the both of them but god would i be lying if i said I didn't greatly enjoy that in the first place#literally Paris/Helene share so much chemistry somehow and im still utterly amazed at that#especially because Helene doesn't bat an eye over Paris's flirtations and even warns him not to long for her#(and god do i still think about Paris shaking while trying to touch Helene. what does he know instinctually about her and what is Helene-#hiding to the point she tells Paris said instincts are warning him not to crave for her. like. im sorry but something's up with Helene and-#im convinced Paris is the only one who has caught onto that fact so far re: his comparison to her & Lyla & his strange instinctual shaking)#i think so much about Paris/Helene can you tell#manipulative antagonistic lady x the self-interested dragon dude is such a fun pairing i CRAVE for more of them#(also why does only Paris face that instinctual rejection towards Helene and neither of the other dragons? curious~)#(does Paris's body happen to remember Helene from the OG story? bc i do wonder if that's a plot twist w/ them)

Series Masterlist
If anything, your day started out pretty calm.
You were petting Alpine with one hand while scribbling on the paper with the other, and you stole a look at Bucky when he entered the kitchen. He ran a hand through his damp hair and you inhaled the scent of his aftershave as subtly as you could, pretending to be busy with the file in front of you while he made his way to the coffee machine to fill himself a cup of coffee.
You could feel his glances on you as he leaned back on the counter, sipping his coffee but you ignored him until he cleared his throat.
“So when is that asshole leaving?”
You stopped petting Alpine and lifted your head to look at him better.
“Who, Rhett?” you asked. “He just got here.”
“Doesn’t he have a city to rule?”
“He left his right hand in his place, apparently,” you told him. “Why?”
“Just curious.”
You hummed, spinning your pen between your fingers.
“You should be nicer to him, you know.”
He scoffed into his coffee mug. “Yeah sorry, I’m not capable of being nice to dickheads who gaze at my wife longingly.”
“What?”
“I’m already being civil by not shooting him, and that’s only because you told me not to.”
“You’re not going to shoot—he doesn’t gaze at me longingly, Bucky.”
“Oh he does,” he shot back. “In fact, I bet he has a plan.”
Your frown deepened. “What plan?”
“He wants to—he wants to take you to Chicago,” he said, motioning vaguely and you tilted your head, your mouth slightly open. “Yeah, he’ll feed you some bullshit about never being over you—”
“He is very much over me.”
“And he will ask you to go rule Chicago with him, and then I’ll shoot him and feed his fucking body to the dogs—”
“Can I just interrupt that very creative theory with some truth?” you asked him as Alpine jumped from the counter to the floor. “Number one, even if he weren’t over me, it wouldn’t fucking matter because I am over him.”
His eyes searched yours as if he was trying to see if you were telling the truth. “Are you?”
“Absolutely,” you said. “Number two, whoever he is with -which is not going to be me, by the way- will not be ruling Chicago with him. Chicago’s rules are different, the crown moves through blood there. Spouses are irrelevant, they’re treated worse than heirs, or right arms. Don’t get me wrong, I hate the bitch who he’s going to marry because she’s a terrible person, but I kind of feel bad for her too because no one will ever take her seriously. King consort or queen consort, doesn’t matter because they have zero power, except for providing heirs and strengthening the loyalty of families.”
Bucky blinked a couple of times. “Jesus, and we say we have medieval rules.”
“Exactly,” you said. “And number three, I know we both keep forgetting it but we are in fact married. Even if I weren’t over him, me going to Chicago would be grounds for war and only an idiot—”
“Trojan War started the same way, didn’t stop anyone.”
“I appreciate the compliment but I’m not the underworld edition of Helen of Troy,” you pointed out. “That’s not what’s going to happen here. Unless Eric Bana shows up, that is.”
“Which one was he in that movie, Paris?”
“Hector,” you said with a sigh. “The things I’d do to him…”
“I’m glad we had this conversation because now I will have to add him to my hitlist as well.”
You rolled your eyes at him.
“The point is,” you said. “I’m not starting a war between Chicago and New York for an ex. Because that’s what Rhett is. An ex.”
“He doesn’t see you as just an ex,” Bucky told you. “You said it yourself. He trusts you.”
The sight of Rhett’s car by the campus outside your building made you stop dead in your tracks only for a moment. You could feel the smile pulling your lips as you approached him, and he took off his sunglasses to grin at you.
“Hey stranger.”
“Hey,” you said. “Look at that, you survived.”
“Mm hm.”
“I take it the same can’t be said for Lucas?”
“For him or any of his men,” he stated, leaning back to his car. “He was waiting exactly where you said he was.”
You nodded your head. “How pissed off was your father?”
“Very pissed off,” he said. “But I think it worked out pretty well, you know? Now we have sent a message.”
“The ultimate golden heir is not to be crossed or challenged,” you teased him with a small smirk. “That’s a good message.”
He heaved a sigh, his tongue darting out to wet his lips.
“Can I ask you something?”
“Hm?”
“Why did you warn me?” he asked. “I mean, aside from the orgasms I gave you—”
“That was a mutual transaction,” you pointed out, making him let out a chuckle and hold up his hands.
“It really was,” he said. “But seriously, we were broken up. And I know what promise he dangled in front of you. What, you didn’t even consider it?”
You made a face, shaking your head. “No.”
“Why not?”
“New York values loyalty over power,” you said. “That’s what I grew up with. I don’t do business with greedy backstabbers, neither would my father or anyone else in New York. Once a traitor, always a traitor.”
Rhett’s gaze was fixed on you, a light crossing his eyes as he let out a breath.
“Jesus…” he muttered. “One last transaction, cupcake?”
“Nope,” you said with a laugh. “Then we will get attached and we can’t have that. You have a city to take over, and I’m too smart to be put in the background in someone else’s empire.”
Rhett smiled softly.
“My father won’t do business with anyone in New York,” he said, and you shrugged your shoulders.
“I know. Everyone knows.”
“Neither will I,” Rhett said. “Until you need my help.”
Your eyes shot up to his, your stomach doing a happy flip.
“You’d do that for me?” you asked and he nodded.
“You saved my life, and proved that I can in fact trust you,” he said. “Chicago values loyalty above everything else. The least I can do is pay back the favor.”
A smile warmed your face. “I’ll come to collect, Rhett.”
“Looking forward to it,” he said and extended his hand. “Pleasure doing business with you, cupcake.”
You let out a giggle, and shook his hand.
“Yeah,” you said. “Likewise.”
“Because I earned his trust,” you told him as his phone vibrated and he checked the screen, then typed something. Even if you wanted to ask who it was, you managed to control yourself, biting inside your cheek.
“Dr. Raynor rescheduled the therapy session for the evening,” you told him. “Your assistant told you?”
“Yeah,” he said. “I have a meeting with Anna before that so I might be a bit late but I’ll be there.”
Your brows shot up, that familiar bitterness burning your mouth. “With Anna?”
“Mm hm,” he said. “Gotta go, I’ll see you there,”
With that, he walked out of the apartment and closed the door behind him, and Alpine jumped back on the counter, meowing at you in a very demanding manner. You heaved a sigh, stroking over her soft fur.
“We’re not going to threaten Anna,” you told her, “Because that’s a fucking insane thing to do, and we’re very logical, rational individuals, right Alpine?”
Alpine meowed again and you nodded your head.
“Mm hm,” you muttered. “Exactly.”
*
“I mean it’s not that I’m jealous,” you assured Becca who only watched you with her brows raised. “Obviously that’s not what’s happening here.”
She hummed, sipping her coffee.
“It’s just that she’s a bit too friendly with him I feel like.”
“Like Rhett is a bit too friendly with you?”
“That’s very different!” you protested. “Rhett and I are going to make a deal!”
“Anna already has a deal with Bucky.”
“Whose side are you on?” you asked, sulking and she let out a laugh.
“Yours, obviously,” she said. “But I’m just saying, maybe before pointing fingers, acknowledge the fact that Rhett liked you. A lot.”
“Liked,” you repeated. “Back then. Besides, I have no feelings for him and as I told Bucky, he will get married.”
“And he will have mistresses.”
“Probably,” you said with a shrug of your shoulders. “Alice will kill them I’m guessing. She was quite obsessed with him even while we were dating and now that Rhett says he will marry her, I do not want to think about the lengths she’d go to.”
Your phone buzzed on the table and you checked the screen, then tilted your head. “Huh.”
“Who is it?”
“Ethan,” you said. “We haven’t talked in forever, apparently he was too busy and so was I. He wants to grab coffee sometime.”
“What is it with all your exes wanting to fuck you?” Becca asked, making your jaw drop.
“That’s not true!”
“No seriously, what are you doing to those guys?”
“I don’t do anything to them—you know what, we’re changing the subject,” you said as you put your phone back on the table. “Do you think I’ll be able to pull it off?”
“The deal?” Becca asked, “I’d say you already have.”
“Nothing is on paper yet.”
“It doesn’t matter, he flew here for that deal. He will make it.”
You drummed your fingernails on the table. “My father will have so many things to say about it I’m sure.”
“He can say whatever he wants—oh!” she sat up straighter. “Guess what I heard.”
“What?”
“Apparently, Ian is learning how to fight.”
You pulled your brows together. “I’m sorry?”
“Mm hm. His right hand is teaching him, the hot Hercules guy—”
“Ryan.”
“Yeah, him.”
You scoffed a laugh. “How did you hear about that?”
“Your father told my father and my father told my mom at breakfast,” she said. “Never too late to start I guess?”
“I mean he’s the heir,” you said with a sigh. “If the cage fight is happening…”
“You know how I feel about the cage fight tradition but for Ian’s case only, I will enjoy it,” she said. “I hate the son of a bitch.”
You squeezed her hand. “How Leila?”
“That’s actually why I wanted to meet up with you,” she said, huffing out a breath. “My mom kind of forced my hand.”
“How?”
“She and me and Leila are having brunch tomorrow.”
Your eyes widened. “What?”
“So I need you to tell me Leila won’t decide to dump me tomorrow.”
A small laugh escaped from your lips and you shook your head.
“She won’t,” you assured her. “Do you want me to be there? I will invite myself to that brunch, I don’t care what Winnifred thinks.”
She looked like she was genuinely considering the idea before she made a face, then shook her head.
“Nah, I need to deal with this myself,” she muttered and you pressed a hand over your chest.
“Aw,” you said with a grin. “They grow up so fast.”
“Shut it,” she said, kicking at your shoe with hers, making you gasp. “But I’m going to need all the moral support I can get, so you will be by the phone the whole time, alright?”
You let out a laugh. “Deal.”
*
Bucky was late to the therapy session as he said he would be by fifteen minutes, and when he got there, he was rather tense. Even if you wanted to ask what had happened, you knew you couldn’t in front of the therapist so you raised your brows at him but he shook his head.
“So,” Dr. Raynor said, “Let’s pick up from where we left off the last time. How have things progressed in terms of your communication with your ex-boyfriend in the picture?”
“Him being my ex-boyfriend doesn’t play a part in our communication or lack thereof,” you said quickly and Bucky clicked his tongue.
“It definitely does.”
“I think what plays an important part in our communication is the fact that Bucky doesn’t exactly trust me.”
Bucky blinked a couple of times and turned to look at you better.
“I don’t think you should be pointing fingers here, Charm.”
“I do trust you!” you protested, making him scoff.
“Could’ve fooled me.”
“You know what, if you’re being like this because I didn’t give you one tiny little detail about my plan—”
“One tiny little detail?” Bucky repeated with a laugh. “Try the whole plan.”
“You wouldn’t even spare me a glance if I pulled the shit you did back in that back alley,” you finished your sentence as if he didn’t cut you off and that seemed to take him by surprise. He gawked at you, then licked his lips, shaking his head.
“Are you serious right now?”
“What happened in the back alley?” Dr. Raynor asked, her voice almost too calm and Bucky gritted his teeth, leaning back in the couch as if he was uncomfortable all of a sudden.
“It was ages ago,” he said curtly and you hummed.
“And you never apologized.”
“I did apologize—”
“Asking me if I’m still mad via text does not count as an apology, Bucky.”
“What happened?” Dr. Raynor asked and you took a deep breath, then crossed your arms.
“I had a silly little crush on Bucky years and years ago,” you said. “Before I left for college, I made the mistake of telling him about it.”
“Charm.”
“And it’d be fine if he only turned me down but nope,” you spat, that bitter taste burning your throat again. “He had to humiliate me.”
“I didn’t humiliate—”
“Yes you did,” you cut him off and he ran a hand over his face, then motioned at Dr. Raynor.
“Are we seriously going to do this in front of her?”
“Why not?” you said. “That’s what the therapy is for.”
“And you resent him for it, Y/N?” Dr. Raynor asked and Bucky scoffed a laugh.
“Oh she hates me for it,” he corrected her and you shrugged your shoulders.
“I’m not saying I don’t trust you, I’m just saying that if I didn’t trust you, it would be with a reason.”
“Right.”
“Was there a reason behind it, Bucky?”
“No there wasn’t, other than the fact that he wanted to humiliate me.”
“Charm.”
“Y/N, open communication is very important and a huge part of it is listening,” Dr. Raynor said, making you shake your head.
“No, he really didn’t have a reason other than the fact that he was the city’s golden prince who thought—”
“My father wanted us to end up together,” Bucky cut you off, making you pull your brows together in confusion and you turned your head to gawk at him.
“What?” you asked after a beat and Bucky clicked his tongue.
“Yeah,” he said. “He kept talking about how it would be good for the business, how I should visit you in Chicago when you’d leave for college and…all that bullshit.”
You blinked a couple of times in complete silence and Bucky bit inside his cheek.
“I mean obviously I didn’t see you that way back then, but I wouldn’t have been that much of an asshole to you if that was the only reason,” he told you, his voice almost inaudible. “I thought…I thought you were yet another cage he would drag me into, that’s it.”
You could barely hear anything from the way your heart was pounding in your ears and Bucky swallowed thickly, then stole a look at Dr. Raynor and took a deep breath.
“Yeah no, I’m not doing this shit in front of a stranger,” he muttered and got up from the couch as if he was too restless, then walked out of the office and slammed the door behind him. The sound snapped you out of your haze and you jumped on your feet, grabbing your purse.
“Thanks Dr. Raynor,” you said in a haste and walked out of the office as well but by the time you stepped outside, Bucky’s car had already driven off. You let out a breath, then leaned back to the wall on the building and rubbed at your eyes.
“Oh…” you murmured more to yourself. “Fuck.”

This is how I think Astyanax would know react to being told what happened at Troy.
Context: Odysseus and Astyanax are trapped in Calypso's island. Unfortunetely, Zeus is bored, so he sends a message (maybe a letter? Maybe he just sends Hermes and call it a day?) to fuck things up a bit and mess with Odysseus. It works wonders. Nine years old Astyanax reacts poorly.
Here's what happens when Odysseus finds him after receiving the message.
The sun was about to set, filling the silence with the sound of the waves hitting the beach. Only Odysseus had the audacity to talk.
"My son..."
That wasn't welcome, not anymore.
"Am I?" Asked the boy. He was trembling, but not from the breeze. "Your son?"
For once, Calypso didn't try to insert herself in the conversation, even the chatty goddess was speechless.
"I always wondered, why we don't look alike at all? I was adopted, I knew, but I thought I was your nephew, even a cousin".
"Son..."
Odysseus was interrupted
"How can you call me that? My family, my whole country... it's gone, and it's your fault".
The man took a short breath.
"I'm not going to ask for forgiveness..."
"Good", Astyanax was done, "because there's no forgiving you. Tell me everything that happened, tell me about what went down that night".
He stared at the older man while he shook his head.
"Astyanax, save yourself that pain, the endless pain of the war shouldn't be a child's warden".
"But it is!" Bursted out the kid. "You decided to spare me on a whim!"
"That's not what happened."
"Then what?" A desperate question. "Am I a warprize?"
"Don't call yourself that." It was soft spoken, like a prayer.
Astyanax was no god.
"What am I supposed to think?"
Trying to descalate the situation, Calypso spoke.
"Maybe what your father is trying to say..."
Any other day, the goddess' inside was welcome, as she was Astyanax's friend. Today he was having none of it.
"SHUT UP NOBODY ASKED YOU-"
"HEY", Odysseus stopped him, "don't yell at her. You want to know what happened? Put your emotions aside, and sit with me by the fire".
They did so, and Odysseus told him. About the Trojan war, about ten years of slow killing, about the ressiliance of Troy. He told him about Achilles and Patroclus, about Paris and Helen.
He told the story of the wooden horse.
About longing to go home.
Diomedes led the charge. Agamemnon flanked the guards. Menelaus let the men through the gates. They took the whole city at large. Teucer will shot every ambush attack. And Little Ajax stayed back. Nestor secured Helen and protected her. Neo, avenged his father, killing the brothers of Hector.
About a mission, to kill someone's son, someone who wouldn't run, someone who could only be dealt with right there and then. About a baby in a cradle. About Zeus' prophecy. About him.
About someone who was just a man.
Troy fell.
The Ithacan fleet sailed, hoping to reach home.
They never did.
When he was done remembering the past, he looked at the boy, who was sitting at the other side of the flame, hands covering his face.
It took a long time for Astyanax to even look at him, let alone spoke up, but he finally did it.
"I don't know what to say." He confessed, bathed in the fire's light. "I hate you, I do, I'm so full of rage right now...but I love you, and I hate you so much. You should have killed me when you had the chance, why didn't you?"
The answer came easyly to Odysseus's lips.
"Mercy". He dared to say, the blasphemy of it haunting them, with only the fire and the waves as witnesses. "You haven't done anything, you were a child who had only known love. What was the point?"
"Zeus told you to do it. One should not defy the gods".
A dark laugh came from Odysseus, startling the kid
"That's all we have ever done since we met." Odysseus spoke the truth, and Astyanax hated him for it. "A god ordered a child's death. Where's my free will? Your right to a peaceful life? They're supposed to protect us...and look where we are now because of them."
Astyanax looked at him, right in the eyes, before saying his part.
"I hate you."
Odysseus sighed, tired, defeated.
"I know." Resigned.
"I have one more question."
Just one question? Odysseus would have give him anything he asked for. A question he could do.
"Go ahead."
Like a dreadful night, so many years ago, he thought he was ready. He wasn't ready.
"Do you even love me?"
Tears came to his eyes when the boy asked that question. How many times can a heart break until there's nothing left?
"How couldn't I? To love my children it's the easiest thing I've ever done."
Whatever was the veredict, he would take it, he owed Astyanax that much.
And then Astyanax got up. There was no emotions in his voice when he talked
"You are without doubt, a cruel man, Odysseus of Ithaca."
He walked away, letting a crying man behind.

In These Arms - Achilles x (Fem) Trojan!Reader
Warnings: Paris dumped the reader for Helen before she gets to meet Achilles. Includes break up angst + discussion of cheating.
Summary: Heartbroken and publicly humilliated after being abandoned by Paris, you seek peace in the promise of giving up on men without realizing the consequences of his actions would find you one last time.
Turned into a war prisoner and handled to the leader of the myrmidons, the unusual comfort of your master offers you a second chance.
Note: Inspired by two prompt lists by my dear friend @alysinwonderland-at-tea
Angst list - Prompt 4 " Everyone told me you were going to break my heart. I should have listened to them. "
Fluff list - Prompt 2 "I think about you. Ceaselessly."
Tags: @lovelybaka
If everyone else in Troy had reasons for sorrow, on top of theirs you were the most damaged. The man you loved had returned home bringing someone else on his charriot. A stolen queen, woman you didn't have the slightest chance of comparing yourself to given the charm of her famously inhuman beauty. Even when Paris never made any expressed promises priorly, love confessions had once been mutually retributed and you believed in that.
You trusted him going against the advice of many people who attempted to warn you. His own brother had told you that no matter how much he spoke of it, Paris knew nothing about love. Blinded by your feelings, you didn't care, and it turned out the worst mistake of your life.
" Everyone told me you were going to break my heart. I should have listened to them. "
It took you all the strenght you had left not to cry, but at that moment of confrontation it was him the one sobbing in front of you.
" I never meant to! Dear, what I felt for you was real … But it wasn't true love, and I had no way to tell the difference untill I meet Helen. "
You couldn't believe the excuse that was being given to you.
" It was for me, Paris … and because of you I think I will never love again. I gave you everything, but turns out all I am wasn't enough. "
The assumption seemed to have offended him.
" You know I don't mean that! Please, try to understand! "
" What's left to understand? You betrayed your homeland and you betrayed me. You too deserve each other, indeed: a cheater for a cheater … Lovely couple to doom us all! And me the first."
He gave you a hurted look, as if after what he did he still cared for your forgiveness.
" My heart breaks for you, and i am ashamed of myself for the pain i'm causing you … But what can shame do to stop the intensity of love? I would have never accompanied Hector to Sparta if I would have known there I would fall like this for someone else. I couldn't return pretending nothing have happened, and making you live a lie would have been even more unfair than this. You deserve better, I still hold good feelings for you. I swear it on these arms that had comforted you countless times before. "
Paris attempted to pull you closer for a hug, but you stopped him ríght away.
" You humilliated me in front of the entire city! And how strongly I wish I could get granted the mercy of never seeing you again, but Troy is not big enough for that. Blessed is the king of Sparta, who gets the ríght of spreading hate without having to see his wife in the arms of other man every day! Me, instead? I get doomed to watch you smile happyly from afar in the balcony of the palace alongside your mistress for the rest of my life. Do you call that justice, Paris? If that is your mercy, I would rather get your hate. "
In the most twisted way possible, the gods granted at least one of your wishes.
Promising yourself to never love another man ever again after your first love had ended so bitterly, you took the first step into the only path allowed for a woman in your position. With the help of Briseis, who remained your friend despite what happened with her cousin, you seeked to get choosen to take vows in her temple. It was a quick way to restitute your honor in the public eye and be left alone as well. Unfortunately, you didn't get to even try on the priestess robes before the concecuencies of Paris' actions reached you once more.
Greek warriors brought to avenge the husband of his new lover destroyed the temple, killing the priests and taking you prisioner. You would never get to see the great city of Priam again and, despite the sorrow you felt when thinking of your family, that also caused you a dark sense of relief. Because of Paris you have lost everything, even the most bassic of goods such as your freedom. Only after loosing so much, of hitting rock bottom, you had a real chance to be free of him.
Enslaved to Achilles, but liberated from everything you were before, the worst part was having to stand the provocations. The myrmidon enjoyed himself attempting to seduce you, but wasn't forcing you into his bed, and that worked good enough for you in that context.
At one given time you did found his teasing going too far, and only then you became fully honest with him.
" Why did you choose to love a god? I think you will find the romance one sided. "
It made your blood boil, even if you could tell he spoke to you like that because he had no idea of who you were despite knowing your name. Achilles believed to be teasing a priestess and in the discoverment of his mistake you ended up laying eyes on him for longer than you should.
He was wearing the same type of long egyptian styled robes Paris would typically wear in the domestic environment, keeping arms and shoulders covered while fully exposing the torso. It was matched with the same sort of long skirt made of light fabrics opened at the side for more cassual expousure. You could vividly remember he wore a black outfit almost identical to that one during the first night you made love.
And yet, that man looked nothing like him. His sun kissed skin and the sculpted muscles were as contrasting as his blond hair and blue eyes.
" I have choosen nothing, fate forced me to seek shelter in the cult of Apollo after being abandoned by the love of my life. I told myself that, if i could never love again, I could at least give my devotion to the regent god of my city. Because of you I never got to become a priestess, so now i'm a double spoil: rejected for marriage and dragged out of the temple. "
Although standing ríght in front of you, disbelief faded some of the cockiness.
" You won't be rejected here, that's a promise. I had a minor altercate with Ajax because we found you so pretty we both wanted to keep you."
He sat on the ground ríght next to you and observed you with tenderness before taunting you once more.
" Did I ruin your life, or arrived just in time to restaure your faith in men? I don't understand how a girl like you could think of running to hide inside a temple instead of getting herself a better man. "
You answered with the truth, but carefully crafting enough disdain.
" There was nothing I could have done to keep him with me when the competition was the most beautifull woman in the world. The majority of men would have done the same, and that's why I have choosen not to believe in any other ever again. "
Achilles wasn't expecting to find out he was struggling for the attention of the woman that the trojan prince had left behind in his pursuement of the spartan queen.
" Will all mankind pay for the crimes of Paris? That bastard is not even a man. You are so much better without him, consider that perhaps the queen has made you a favor. If he is your reason to give up on men, I have to say it's quite offensive for the rest of us. "
You could tell where his speech was coming and you tried to stop him.
" You would have given me to Ajax if Briseis wouldn't have ran away. I didn't left with her only because I have nothing left to live for. Living in Troy is unbereable for me, but at least here I don't have to worry about seeing them and that's the only perk i expect. Don't try to pretend you could be any different, specially when I'm here because you couldn't find any other more beautifull slave girl to claim yours. "
His hand was then on your face, lifting up your chin so your eyes won't leave his as his thumb caressed your lips.
" I think of you, ceaselessly. If there is any daughter of trojan judged more beautifull than you, I don't need to know and I don't care, because I want you over any other. "
Your hand followed his and pulled down, rejecting his contact.
" Sweet lies won't win me over, not this time. "
It frustrated him, but wouldn't make him desist.
" Would you believe me if I bring you his head on a spear? I can make him cry a painfull death to pay for your tears. Whatever vengeance Menelaus dreams of would be called mercy compared to what I can do to that trojan bastard in your name."
The strange rush of passionate defense encouraged you to reveal yourself.
" Revenge is not on my interest, all I want is to forget. Can you make me stop thinking of the first man who made my heart beat? The moments when we were happy still haunt me like a disease of the spirit, but then I remember someone else occupies my place now and it's like my heart gets eaten raw inside my chest. Pain and regret is all I have for you, son of Peleus. Paris drained me of anything else. "
Achilles got rid of his black robe and wrapped your shoulders with it.
" One night in my arms is all i think that would take me to vanish the memory of that fool from your mind. You haven't yet been loved by a real man: whatever he gave you would taste like few once you would have tasted me."
The fabric was still warm from the contact with his skin and he was holding both sides of it on top of your chest in an attempt of wrapping you tighter.
You didn't try to escape him that time and he used the new proximity in his advantage to trap you in his strong grip, pushing your body against his.
" In this arms you will find happiness again, if you allow me to show you how good I can do just for you. "

I saw something that said that if Odysseus had to choose between himself VS. Penelope and Telemachus he'd always choose himself. How he'd be miserable and he would try to weasel his way out of it but if it really was no other option he'd still do it and...
Odysseus is an incredibly selfish man, that's not wrong. And he definitely has his cruel streak. But his whole thing is his unconditional devotion and loyalty to his family while basically being a rat bastard to everyone else. He literally puts himself in danger for them multiple times, even just in their NAME multiple times.
But this is the same man who pretended to be INSANE for at least a MONTH so he wouldn't have to leave them. I guess you could say it's because he's a coward or because of the prophecy but if he didn't care he wouldn't have saved his son. But even with all that, to have a mad king? That leaves your kingdom vulnerable. There could've been a fucking usurping. Ithaca doesn't have much fertile land and yet he destroys some of it. Even then in some versions, it's him literally running to scoop up his baby, "hearing thundering hooves past his head". Putting himself in danger in multiple ways as SAVING HIS SON MEANT HE WAS GOING TO WAR. WAR ISN'T SOMETHING YOU CAN GUARANTEE THAT YOU'LL COME BACK FROM.
EVEN IN THEIR NAMES, HE PUTS HIMSELF IN DANGER FOR THEM. Calypso asks what is so lovely about his wife that makes him not want her, a beautiful goddess. Said goddess has been abusing him for years yet he still says that he will ALWAYS go back to them putting himself at risk just DEFENDING Penelope and he's literally dragged back to her grotto immediately after. He even tells her the only way he would stop trying to get to them is if he were dead.
He is deeply hurt by her rejection but even then HE ASKS FOR A SEPARATE BED. He calls her cruel and stubborn and he's tearing up but he never threatens her despite her rejection could literally end bad for him. Paris for example, after Helen rips into him about how Menelaus was the better man and warrior who didn't back down, he basically tells her "Hey! You should be happy your husband's alive! ...Get in the bed."
Like??? he puts them first often, even if it means his own discomfort!!!
I don't think he would let Penelope or Telemachus suffer so he would be free. That feels like the fucking Tele-GONE-y to me. You can keep his "rat bastardness" there because if he was for example, being dragged to Hades or something, he'd give Penelope a look and they'd probably have a plan for him to get out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ He's sometimes said to be the son of Sisyphus. Who's to say he wouldn't do that as well? And if it was him "doomed to eternal damnation". He'd be trying the whole time to get back to them. (that'd...honestly be a perfect punishment for him.)
Idk, They're selfish about practically everything but each other
#no offense to this individual but that just... didn't feel right. They're both deeply fucked but they're fucked up in how they would burn#everything down for each other. For their son? Even more so#... it was first this post. then had the fucked up headcanon to write and now I'm writing a shitty fucked up fic :'D#Mad rambles#shot by odysseus

iwtv fanfic friday: lesbianism onto the guys
@oldbutchdaniel I'm joining the fun. it's yuri time
two-headed mother by tisiphones // e, 8.6k
"Poor darling," Armand says, and the condescension in his voice is so awful and so offensive and Lestat wants to curl up in it and never, ever leave. "It's okay to let yourself be taken care of for just one night. You can't help what you need." It's Lestat's last night in Paris. Armand makes it a memorable one.
actually world changing. mommy issues galore it's sooo fun and this fic is part of several that got me into armandstat
super graphic ultra modern girl by armanddelioncourt // e, 0.9k
“I want to watch how you insert your tampon.” “Wha—No, you weirdo,” she glanced around the mercifully-deserted aisle. “You can’t just ask me that in the store!”
yummmmmy period blood fic!!! i love period blood fics sooo much and they're so cute
More than Neither by apoptoses // e, 6.2k
Annoying, how hot it is to see Armand kneeling on the dirty bathroom floor like this. Without her heels to compensate for their height difference she looks small, delicate. Her face is on the level with Daniel’s hips and Daniel knows what’s about to happen. Armand has probably been planning for this since they stepped into the store, she realizes. There’s no way she’d catch Daniel bleeding for the first time and let that go. (Daniel gets her period. Armand helps. Written for the Queens of the Damned prompt butch/femme.)
another period blood fic pls bartender! if I tip you can add them being freaky in a public toilet? thank you very much I'll take the lot pls!! the way daniel and armand handle being women and lesbians is so well written. dyke stamp of approval. if you're starting to notice a trend don't tell me
she loves me, she loves me not by IguessIllchangeitlater // e, 2.3k
“Sure,” she panted and raised her head, tried to find Armand’s eyes, but kept focusing on her fanged smile instead. “I will wear that fucking skirt.” Push out, push in, push out, push in, Daniela was going to come just from that, she was going to die. “I can’t-ah, I can’t wear my underwear with that, I would look silly.” Push in, push out. “Yes,” Armand agreed. She rested her head on the mattress, next to Daniela’s knee and busied herself with mouthing the blood that was still there. The blood that she drew earlier. “So, what’s the plan, boss?” Daniela managed to raise herself on her elbows. Armand’s beguiled eyes looked like that of a cat in the light of the night. “For the underwear situation?” “You will wear none, of course.”
butch daniel wearing a skirt because armand said so was an idea that bounced around in my head for a whole week so you know how excited I was to read this. hell yeah they're so bad to each other
sweet things for the sea by ulatraviolet_glow // e, 2.6k
Danielle Molloy, a runaway posing as a young man on a trading ship dreams of a better life, but when her dreams find her falling overboard and into the arms of the woman of her dreams, how disturbed will Dani be when she realises that the woman is not human at all, but a creature of the sea?
siren armand do you know how much you mean to meeeeee I lay awake at night thinking of you sinfully. siren armand...
one of your girls by sleepdeprivedsurgeon // m, 4.7k
“I was thinking maybe I’d go with my girlfriend,” Daniel says. Armand sucks in a breath, a familiar blend of excitement and fever rearing its head inside him. This isn’t new— nothing is, after nearly five centuries— but it’s certainly been a while. Louis doesn’t care what he looks like, what he is, just as long as he stays below him. On his knees in the endless confessional. Marius would dress him up sometimes: Helen of Troy, Cassandra, Mary Magdalene. When the painting was finished he’d push his skirts up and take him there in the studio.
technically not yuri but beautiful feminization + crossdressing armand and I had to put it here. special treat!

Dad!Hector x daughter!reader headcanon's
Hector is awesome and I feel like he would be an amazing girl dad, after all he’s a good dad to Astyanax. And I was bored and over analyzing the Iliad. warning: Cursing.
Fandom is troy 2004 and also the iliad cause I love both
My cousin wanted these, I hope they are good
Reader is the oldest child and let's pretend the Trojans and the Greeks have signed a peace treaty.
When you are first born he’s slightly frustrated because of everyone else being frustrated because your a girl, but he loves you so much
He has a younger sister, of course he knows how to interact with his little girl
Have you seen his hair? If he gets the chance and does your hair you two are going to have matching hairstyles because Hector gives me the vibe that he wouldn’t want his hair done by servants because he prefers the independence
Might sing to you
You love your dad, like your mom is great but it is clear to most people that you are a daddy's girl
you're the kid who says "imma call my dad." and when Hector shows up everyone is like 'oh shit'
can you imagine saying that to a Greek commander lol
he might have had to bring you with him to Sparta because of the tantrums
Your grandparents think it’s adorable, your granddad fully supports it. He is so proud. Your grandma doesn’t think that it's proper but she is grateful she has a grand kid.
You know those interviews where the NBA players have their kids in their lap while they are answering questions and the kid is occasionally trying to talk to their dad?
That's you in meetings. Except your dad's a prince, and you're a princess.
I like to think he would support any and all interests you have, including fighting, even though he won't be crazy about it
As you get older he teaches you the diplomatic side of things
Somehow you are more mature than your own uncle but you love him anyway and Paris is very supportive, and you often climb between his and your fathers laps in meetings when your a toddler
Lets say your ten when the Trojan war starts
You like Helen fine, but you spend most of your time with your mother begging her to tell you where your father is. She feels awful and can’t bring herself to tell you what is going on.
At the end of every day you run into your dads arms, clingy to him and begging him to never leave you again.
One time you managed to get out of the walls of Troy before your father comes inside and the Greeks see you running to your father, who is happy to see you but so fucking worried because how the hell did you get out?!
You are twenty when the war ends and you come with your father to view what the proceedings are for a peace agreement
If Achilles is there, he’ll probably flirt with you, (going with the version that he’s twenty-one when the war ends cause yeah, there is debate over that frustratingly) cause your the daughter of the only man who is even close to his equal in battle, he's trying to get a rise out of your dad
Hector is not please but keeps his cool (I am gonna let y’all decide what happens lol)
Continuing to go on diplomatic missions with him and helping your mom when your baby brother comes along
Basically, your dad is your best friend, your his sidekick
(i totally did not make myself cry, I want to hug my dad now)

Reading The Iliad (Books 1 - 6)
For anyone stumbling on this post / my blog, I’m currently reading The Iliad for the first time as part of a challenge I gave myself and I’m going to be sharing my thoughts about it here since it’s a physical copy and I don’t want to write in books :’)
As a little bit of background, I originally wanted to read The Song of Achilles but the mixed reviews scared me—it makes sense to read the source material before going into the retelling so I can make as accurate a judgement myself, right? So that’s what I’m doing. Now. Getting into it:
⟢ Initial first reaction: We are opening with an argument which is always a good sign for things to come. I don’t think I’m going to like Agamemnon too much but we’ll see.
⟢ Having lost this argument, Achilles goes to his mom which is … very endearing to me. I love how attentive Thetis is to Achilles. This little moment is sweet :)
⟢ And! She agrees to help him! ⟢ “Then, with a deep groan, Achilles answered,” is killing me for some reason. I’m getting teenager vibes from him. As a general aside, I do wonder how old these characters are. Anyway we are at the point where the main (?) character does not show up for the foreseeable future. So let’s see what everyone else is doing ~
⟢ As it turns out, everything is getting worst. ⟢ Hector chastising Paris into getting his act together in front of everyone surprises me but not as much as he fact that Paris is very receptive and respectful to him about it. I wonder when the thought of ‘taking Helen back to Troy might have been a bad idea after all,’ hit. We may never know. ⟢ Which brings me to another point: Why isn’t Helen going back / why won’t Priam have her returned home?
⟢ In other news, I desperately need Paris to focus on the ongoing war outside his door. I beg …….
⟢ Speaking of ongoing war, seeing the difference in personalities between the brothers (Agamemnon and Menelaus) is so interesting to read. Also, maybe it’s a stress thing (?) but snapping at Odysseus like that was so uncalled for lmao, what in the world 😭
⟢ General side note, but I like how nobody in this story is … good. There’s not really a “side” it feels like you should be cheering for, and while I know how it ends / who wins, this telling of it feels human. The little details about background characters and the heavy metaphors and similes add to that in a way that feels very natural.
⟢ I am very fond of Hector though.
⟢ Book of all time. Diomedes vs. Everyone and Their Mother. If I had to pick a favorite character so far I don’t know if it would be Diomedes or Hector.
⟢ I know given the period and culture that turning tail and running would be dishonorable but I really, really need for Pandarus to get out of their stat.
⟢ Diomedes is quickly rising the ranks of favorite character so far but I’m a bit confused—here he’s trying to get to Aeneas with Apollo in the middle (?) so he wouldn’t technically be breaking what Athena asked of him (not to go after any gods except for Aphrodite.) But it also sounds like Apollo is implying that … Diomedes is challenging him? Did he not intervene first? Is this going to backfire somehow—is Apollo going to have it out for him now?
⟢ PLEASE the minute he tries to catch his breath he has to go take on Ares?? Free him 😭
⟢ It feels like Diomedes keeps catching the short end of the stick. First when Agamemnon was mouthing off, then a few seconds before that above conversation Athena was questioning his bravery….What is going on here. #FreeDiomedes
⟢ The conversation between Hector and Andromache is so important to me. But this little line spoken over his son is the saddest thing I’ve read so far. To be a better man than he is … but in the future he imagines for his son, there’s still fighting. Nobody is winning in the long run, are they?
Final notes:
⟢ Where is Achilles, this is getting ridiculous.
⟢ What happened to Book Ten?? Diomedes and Odysseus go under cover, what??? I love a little side story, but my copy doesn’t have that :(
7 - 12 Next … I am terrified. Sick. Crying. Please tell me Diomedes lives. Please …
#. Reading tag#the iliad#you don’t understand how badly I want to read this elusive book 10#Diomedes#achilles#agamemnon#odysseus#hector of troy#andromache

what sense do we get of helen and menelaus’ relationship pre-paris?
Search me, anon, because as far as I can remember right now, we don't have much of any surviving sources that focus on that to extrapolate from. It could probably be Whatever You Want.
Pre-marriage to wedding, Menelaos and Agamemnon has spent at least some amount of time in Sparta, but what that meant for Helen and Menelaos' relationship with each other could be... a lot of different things. (How much time would they have spent together? Been allowed to? How freely? etc and so on.)
If one goes with a version where Tyndareos allows Helen to choose (not, most often, out of any respect for his daughter's feelings or desires, however), then we've at least got the very basic "Helen might prefer a known - and presumably friendly - quality to unknown ones, no matter how handsome they might be" up to "she is genuinely in love/desires Menelaos and therefore chooses him". If one does not - well, she still ends up knowing something of her new husband thanks to having shared a roof with him, but it doesn't tell us what their relationship might be. (Tyndareos choosing is usually predicated on "Menelaos - via Agamemnon - offers the most bride price", so it has little to do with what Tyndareos might think Helen would want.)
Wedding to Paris' arrival... When it comes to lost works that would probably touch on this, presumably the Kypria would have had something. If just in how Helen and Menelaos interact/exchange conversation before Menelaos leaves for Crete. Same with Stesichorus' various treatments of the Trojan war. Our most fullest late sources remove Menelaos from the scene before Paris turns up, so we don't get any interaction between husband and wife there either.
I think, as a very basic extrapolation for what it means in the versions where Menelaos explicitly is present in Sparta for Paris' arrival and leaves x number of days later, is that he very clearly trusts Helen.
Sure, it's not the done thing to make a guest leave before they've indicated they're ready (as Menelaos mentions in the Odyssey). But usually the (male) host wouldn't be leaving his house at any point during a guest staying there, which Menelaos does. The trust in Helen/her character/her behaviour, is at least explicit in how Helen tells it in her letter in Ovid's Heroides (#17): "Nor let his absence cause you to wonder that I have been left here with you; my character and way of life have taught him trust. My face makes him fearful, my life makes him sure; he feels secure in my virtue, my charms rouse his fear."
We don't have Sophocles' Helenes Apaitesis (which was about Menelaos and Odysseus' embassy to demand Helen back), which isn't pre-Paris but still nominally pre-war. The late Dictys Cretensis has its Helen wish to stay in Troy, but explicitly remains uncertain on why Helen wants this (love of Paris, or fear of punishment?), which doesn't tell us anything about Helen and Menelaos, really.
And, for all that "Menelaos attempts to kill Helen during the sack" is a very strong strain of plot in basically all versions of the sack as we have/don't have it, and I certainly acknowledge it, in my opinion that does not actually say much about Helen and Menelaos' relationship pre-war.
Because Menelaos does this 10+ years after Helen left Sparta (in whatever way), after 10 years of war and stewing in his emotions about Paris' actual betrayal and Helen's either actual or potential such. A lot of things can change or be corrupted in all that time (same as for Helen and Paris' relationship from leaving Sparta to the Iliad). I do think it's perfectly possible that Helen and Menelaos' relationship could have been great pre-Paris and Menelaos might still end up resorting to a crime of passion in the moment - that Aphrodite helps steer off and then his better mind and feelings reassert themselves.
Or, conversely, they could have had a bad to neutral marriage and Menelaos might be very intentional about what he's intending and Aphrodite's rescue might then be even more necessary. I don't prefer this one, but it's not an impossible reading.
Both the Odyssey - in Helen's own words - and Sappho 16 - by the lyrical I/the "poet", one post-war, one kind of prewar but not pre-paris, have something that amounts to "Menelaos lacked in nothing". But those are rather reasoned and moderate statements. In Sappho 16's case, that Menelaos is "best of husbands" doesn't stop Helen from leaving, and for the Helen of the Odyssey, being post-war and post-Paris, any such statement is complicated, if only by the fact of it being said both about present-time Menelaos and the past one, looking back. It's not an unburdened judgment of Menelaos/him as a husband and thus their relationship (now or then), regardless of its genuineness.
So, in sum ╮(╯-╰)╭ anon. We don't have enough to say the sources actually give us any ideas of how their relationship was before Paris.

Lark Liveblogs Literature: THE SUNSHINE COURT BABYYYYY LETS GO JEAN
to begin: THE COVER???
The fucking NARCISSUS/DAFFODIL. Stop stop stop. Nora stop. She said it wouldn’t be a sun but I WASNT READY.
RESILIENCE. FIRST BLOOM AT THE END OF WINTER. NEW BEGINNINGS AND REBIRTH.
warning in advance for how many reaction images will be in this post. Miss Nora Sakavic has a way of making me unable to verbalise how devistated I am so I turn to goofy photos.
Also, just so we’re all on the same page:
it’s 1:20 AM. My roommate IS asleep. I am fighting the demons (downloading this book) but i am winning (it is queued on my kindle)
ITS DOWNLOADED LETS GO
Okay so context is that my Kindle is at 10%
I tried to go to bed and read this in the morning but I am
SO NOW I HAVE FRANTICALLY FOUGHT A WAR (figured out how to get this book) AND I AM READY FOR BATTLE (to cry over Jean)
ONE, TWO, THREE, LETS GO BITCH!!
Also my kindle cord is too small for me to properly lay in bed so im literally about to lay on my stomach kicking my feet like a middle schooler WISH. ME. LUCK.

Even Jean be out here like “Kevins a little Chihuahua ass drama queen. Bitchboy. Wet cat man.”
Kevin: look, bro, if the 5’3 twink with enough daddy issues to make riko blush and chugs ‘fuck around and find out’ juice for breakfast can escape the moriyamas and not die, so can you.
Testuji. Testuji when I catch you. Tetsuji
Jean what the fuck makes you think anyone but Andrew Minyard will ever tell Neil what to do. Girl.
“If I am not a Raven, who am I?” A MOTHERCUCKING TROJAN BABYYYY
“I have to go to my next class.” I forgot they were in college deadass. Neil is straight up my age im gonna throw up.
Okay. It is. *checks time* 3 AM. I cannot keep my eyes open, which means i must put Jean away for sleep.
ITS IS NOON THE FOLLOWING DAY. I HAVE SLEPT. I HAVE TAKEN MY MEDICATIONS. TIME TO HYPERFOCUS BABY.
KINDLE SAYS WE HAVE 8 hrs 27 mins LEFT IN THIS BOOK. IM SAYING GOODBYE TO MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY. I’LL SEE Y’ALL AT DINNEE TIME. ITS JEAN TIME.
Hiiiiiii Thea….
“Good morning, Paris.” Now, the average man will see this as a reference to his frenchness. but real ones know Paris is prince of Troy, the man who married Helen of Troy & started the Trojan war.
do y’all think Jean has a french accent wait wait wait. obviously itd be very slight at this point but is it there. necessary question.
Assessing Thea like a fucking state exam right now. Neil could not have cared less about your ass I am gaining so much information
Hate of my life Riko moriyama.
CHAPTER THREE:
JEREMY FUCKING KNOW HI BAYYYBY
the way I literally got up and had to pace and stim for a moment even though I fully expected this. autism. my roommate is concerned. not really. she’s used to this she watched me read TKM and dramatically reenact the Ichirou Car Talk.
wow??? AFTG team actually seems happy and well-adjusted and friendly with each other??
Random Note: I’m currently watching Blue Exorcist & one of the main characters is a girl name Moriyama and I’m literally just sitting here like “This girl is way to nice and innocent to have that name.” Because she literally is the nicest girl to ever exist. Why is she cursed with the same name as my mortal enemy (Testuji)
“Tonight’s experiment was the icing on the cake, an invaluable experience no matter how it ended.” Jeremy, my love.
He has empathy… Never before seen footage. Y’all get the cameras!!
He’s so shaken about Jean,,, holding you so gently Jeremy. Here as a guy who knows nothing at all about Jeremy since I’m. so new here. but god.
Jeremy: are you sure a Raven can abide by Troja—
Kevin: Bro Jean is so pathetic he’s a bottom fr. He never disobeys an order
Jeremy: I. Okay you didnt have to say it like that, bro.
I will literally never stop respecting the Trojans strat in the final they really said. “If these fucks can win the championships with nine players, surely we can.” and then willingly got their asses handed to them.
“Xavier stumbled when he got the next serve off, and the Fox guarding him gamely hauled him back upright before running for the ball. It was a simple gesture, but it endeared Jeremy to them” I dont remember if this bit was described in tkm so i’m going to guess that’s Nicky or Matt. Aaron would fucking never.
Nah because like. Yes this proved to the Trojans how resilient the Foxes were, but it was also a message to the audience, yk? Like we know the Foxes were getting shit for their quick rise to the top after they pulled their shit together, but I personally think that the Trojans did this both for their improvement & for Foxes’ publicity. This game proved to the public at large how devastatingly *good* the Foxes were, because of their small size. The second best team in the league crumbled playing the same conditions the Foxes did *every game* and got to championships with. They proved that Foxes were, in fact, a D1 team who earned their keep.
oh hes got daddy’s money. Well. not. officially. yo what I mean.
“it was always best to have a paper trail” Neil Josten would have an anuerysm hearing those words.
Bye Jeremy I’m. Love you so much. Why do you feel like a sixty year old man in your early twenties.
“between seven and twelve students.” yikes.
“unfamiliar and accented voice.” I WAS RIGHT I FUCKING CALLED IY HES GOT AN ACCENT BABY FUCK YEAH
“you ever feel like— like you’re making a choice you cant come back from? But even knowing everything could go completely sideways, you’d make that choice every time?” okay so coming out allegories i could make aside, Jeremy is so… where to start with him. He reminds me of Percy Jackson. Endlessly loyal and selfless to the point its a bit stupid but endearingly stupid.
CHAPTER FOUR:
Okay so we’re alresdy hateflirting. noted.
Its also extremely sunny today in Podunk Hicksville where I live so it feels very On Brand.
“Jean had seen that smile in a half-dozen broadcast… He could picture it too easily, and he dug his fingernails into his own face in vicious warning.” Awww you think you can best the gay worms in your brain. goodluck with that Johnny.
“isn’t that reason enough to keep living? To rediscover simple delight one moment at a time,” keeping this quote for eternity
“enough sunlight to chase away Evermore’s shadows. They are willing to take a chance on you. Aren’t you?”
Kevin Day autistic king. taking this hesdcannon to my grave .
“the conspiracy theorists were working overtime” no girl they just aint stupid.
THEY DESTROYED HIS POSTCARDS…
CHAPTER FIVE:
I want to start keeping record of all the times Jean is like “[name] wasn’t decent enough to [thing]” because its SO funny. We LOVE a petty king.
also keeping track of all the insults he throws at Neil.
Neil likes to think he’s SUUUUCH a loner boy no friends angsty “dont speak to me” resting bitch face ass motherfucker. In reality he is a jack russell terrier — ceritifed jack russell owner who’s dog thinks hes soooo big and bad but said dog literally cries when you dont let him in the bed or say hi to people on the street
Jean is SOOOOOO dramatic 😭😭
Jean: Why would you let Kevin do this.
Neil: let him?? He did that on his own.
Jean: you’re proud of him for being a problem, arent you?
Neil: oh you fucking know I am, bitchass
“but other than his outstanding murder charge there was nothing interesting about that Fox.” i’d consider that very interesting information, Jean. Youre just deranged
“with milk, juice, and vodka dominating one shelf” that’s Aaron, Nicky, Andrew/Kevin in order. Im correct.
“There was an entire drawer dedicated to cheese.” Yeah that sounds like Nicky.
“Half the drawer was full of mini candy bars. Jean threw them all into the trash” bro Andrew is going to kill you in cold blood and not even Neil can save you.
Jean is SO dramatic. Give him Kevin’s crown.
Jean @ Neil during the final: ARE YOU WITHOUT INTELLIGENCE????? ARE YOU STUPID??? DO YOU WANT TO DIE??
Seeing the media coverage of the championship is the food I needed thank you Nora for this. I am eating it up. om nom nom

everything i read in november
we're almost at the end of the year and i'm actually shocked by how many books i've managed to get through, even while doing a master's! i've really enjoyed doing these reviews so you guys are stuck with them for the forseeable, i'm afraid lol
Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood
One of my New Year's Resolutions for 2024 was to engage more deeply with the books I read, and writing these reviews have been a big part of that. Over the year I've often felt that I'm being too harsh on some of the books, like maybe I'm just too dumb to appreciate ambiguous plots and meanings. Then I read Oryx and Crake and I realised no, actually, I was right to expect better from the books I read, because better is out there.
This novel is so perfectly plotted and written - it walks the 'show, don't tell' line brilliantly, not explaining every little detail nor leaving so much unexplained that the whole thing seems pointless. It was really fantastic, and I would recommend it over any of the similar books I've read this year; I think the obvious comparison is The Wall by Marlen Haushofer (reviewed here) - this is everything I wanted from that book and didn't get. I'll definitely be reading more Atwood next year!
Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding
This was so absolutely brilliant - genuinely made me laugh out loud at points, and tear up at others. I would highly recommend for anyone who likes the film, they have the same vibe but the book is better! I don't usually read romance but I am thinking of branching out into some more classic romances like this in the future.
The Baudelaire Fractal by Lisa Robertson
I really enjoyed this - I don't think it'll be for everyone, but it was definitely for me. It follows a woman reflecting on her youth in Paris, which has sort of melded in her mind with the life of the poet Charles Baudelaire. It's part-Baudelaire biography, part-young girl trying to find herself, part-musing on the role of women in art and poetry, especially in the bohemian group that Baudelaire was a part of. It reads at times almost like a philosophy essay, and it has a full index of books and artworks referenced (we love to see it).
I found it really thought provoking, especially the frequent discussions of Baudelaire's mistress/muse, Jeanne Duval. She was a huge part of his personal and business life (she put him in touch with lots of clients and fellow creatives) but was essentially excluded from his intellectual life because of her gender (and probably also her race and class). The narrator, as a woman who also kind of believes herself to be the reincarnation of Baudelaire, poses a really interesting viewpoint of Duval and the role of muse, and there's a real sense of what women have achieved in the modern day by even being allowed to enter creative spaces in their own right and not as a man's muse.
It was a difficult read at times (I had to look a lot of stuff up), but I like to be challenged (and, as my mum said, after Bridget Jones it was probably a good thing to be challenged).
Varanasi by Jae Watson
I've got to be honest, this book was pretty terrible. I bought it in a charity shop because the premise intrigued me; a woman goes through a terrible break-up and travels to India to 'find herself', but is stranded in Varanasi when her travelling companion is found dead. The main part of the plot was actually rounded out in a pretty satisfactory way, but that's about all I can say for it. It was very badly written, both the dialogue and the descriptive writing, and it felt weirdly preachy at times. When I read the author's bio and found she has a degree in theology, it all started to make sense. Oh well. They can't all be Bridget Jones's Diary.
The Tatami Galaxy by Tomihiko Morimi
I thought this was fun! It follows a student through four parallel versions of his life, which differ by the club he chose to join in his first week at university. In each universe he wishes he had chosen differently, so his life wouldn't be so awful - the book is written in a very melodramatic and overly descriptive way that I really enjoyed. The irony is that despite his choices, his life ends up pretty much the same in each case - he meets the same people, gets mixed up in the same events, and ends up pretty happy. I found this oddly comforting, and kind of true to that stage of life. Really, whatever kinds of choices you make at university matter less than what kind of person you are, and you'll probably be ok in the end. It had lots of really funny moments and I found myself really compelled by all the characters. Would recommend for anyone looking for something a bit different!
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
This was so so good!! I was really pulled into the mystery and I cared about all the characters, which I think is the sweet spot for thrillers. It was a lot darker than I was expecting, especially Lisbeth's storyline, but I think it was handled really well. Like Oryx and Crake, it was very well plotted and paced, which shows up some other thrillers I've read recently. I can see why it was such a huge bestseller/cultural moment, it 100% lives up to the hype. I'll definitely be reading the other two books in the series!
Currently Reading + On My Radar
I'm currently reading Behind the Scenes at the Museum by Kate Atkinson, which is absolutely fantastic. The only one of her books I've read before is When Will There Be Good News?, which is a thriller, so I was expecting Behind the Scenes to be a thriller too, but it's more of a literary novel, which I'm actually really enjoying! Full review next month but one thing I'm especially loving is that it's set in York, where I'm from! Very fun to read a historical novel set in a place you know well. I don't really have any books I'm 100% planning on reading next month, apart from a Christmas-themed mystery novella I bought. I also might re-read Wuthering Heights - I read it for the first time when I was pretty young and I honestly don't remember it too well.
As always, if you read this far then please reply and tell me a book you've enjoyed recently, or maybe one you hated (spill the tea) or maybe just one you're looking forward to reading! Ily <3
#another book review post yayyyy#these have been so fun i don't even care if no-one reads them#pinkie reads#🧃

older Helene/Paris WIP piece
i feel justified in thinking that Helene would just straight up say "That sounds like you're trying to start up a courtship" in this work because she REALLY WOULD SAY THIS in the light novel.
Both her and Paris are really candid people and i like how their honesty still evokes a lot of tension + chemistry between them :Dc So much so i can write stuff like this pre-light novel and I can still see how in-character they are even after knowing LN!them never got together like this (but Helene sure did swear off dating LMAO)
#TME LN#sort of#The Mighty Extra#god i love this manhwa#i tend to favor a more green flag interpretation of Paris like this version but you can still see his red flag roots lol#i hope Paris gets to attend the archery festival when it happens in the manhwa and these two get another moment#if only so i can look at this piece and go “ha called it!”#ik Helene isn't really a touchstarved person towards Paris but idk i think she might be once she grows closer to him#i think a lot about Paris telling Helene that she's really the first person he's ever been interested in#and i think a lot about how Helene's truly cunning nature only really shows openly in front of Paris#i still adore the manhwa for looking at these two and going “they're wasted potential. im going to fix this” and made them a side couple#well “side couple” bc honestly based on the light novel Helene really hasn't reciprocated much#though the fact she accepts his request for a dance at the banquet gives me hope the manhwa will make this ship canon :Dc#and man do i FROTH for more interactions between them#also for those wondering the collar shtick does not exist in the light novel#but god do i like it in the manhwa because it's so very tastefully used imo even if i find it a bit cringe lmao

The Curse of Oenone (Leo Valdez xFem!Oc)
A/N: I feel much better now! Women prevail -Danny Words: 1,905 Series' Masterlist Previous Chapter // Next Chapter Listen to: 'House Song' -by Searows
LIV: Wasting Away to Be Useful All the Time Ain't Paying Off, Methinks
The dream changes, now Nico and Ara are on the fire escape of her parent's apartment.
"I'll go back to a witch trial," the girl leans her head on both arms and groans. "Iris messages aren't working! How am I supposed to tell them to hold on until August first?!"
"I already told Clovis I'm on my way."
"Like that's gonna fix it..." Ara stands upright, staring at the urban scenery with a troubled expression. "I never noticed how pretty this place was at sunrise..."
Nico doesn't seem as enchanted. "How is your crew holding up?"
"Jason got hurt but he's coming around," Ara lies, not wanting to worry Nico. "We caught Nike and she's helping us figure out a way to, you know, safely euthanize Leo. How's yours?"
"Steady and in great condition," Nico replies, and he's probably lying too, for the exact same reason. "How are you?"
The girl stares at her fingers, squeezing the railing and drinking in these seconds at home. "I'm trying not to think much, obviously, because... how do I even process all of it?"
"That you're soulmate's fated to die?" Nico snorts with a tone of sarcasm. "But it's so easy..."
"Not a soulmate," she mutters grumpily.
"I think it's sort of impossible," Nico pauses and glares at her. "Don't take that as a challenge."
She smiles a bit. "I don't know what to do. Do I hype myself up to get over Leo, or tell him we'll be together forever? What did Helen do that I shouldn't?" Ara squints and rubs her brow. "It's so unclear if she loved Paris or not..."
Nico shrugs, fidgeting with his ring. "Even if you figure it out, it won't make things easier. The two armies under your command are about to kill each other and you have a bunch of mentally ill gods giving out crazy orders, then there's the curse. How do you choose which one to tackle first? You just deal with them as they come."
"It's not working," Ara scowls. "Had it coming, though. All of this feels right."
Nico raises a brow. "What do you mean?"
Ara thinks of her next words carefully. "I just accepted that this is the weight I'll carry forever. At least I've gotten stronger."
Nico frowns. "You've also aged, though."
"I was going to, anyway. The only thing that I've been unable to outgrow is feelings. Leo chose his path and I must be okay with it... I love him, so I either go along or get in his way and make it worse—and since I can't offer a better alternative..." Ara sighs heavily, giving in. "I suppose I'll follow Eros's advice."
Nico's expression sombers. "So Leo will die?"
"The difference is that maybe this time it might not be permanent, and he might save another soul if he succeeds," Ara faces her friend. "Nike told us about the Physician's Cure—"
"Oh, my dad hates that," Nico pipes in.
"You know what that is?"
"The cure for death? Yeah," the boy scratches his nose casually. "One of Apollo's sons created it, but my dad forbade him from doing it again... so good luck getting it."
"Thanks," Ara says sarcastically. "You always make me feel so much better about the bad stuff in my life."
"We're talking about the last resource of last resources," he raises a brow. "You might as well go to my father and ask for Leo back."
"If I only wanted him to come back, I would drag him out of the Underworld Orpheus-style minus the looking," she rolls her eyes. "But big dumb-dumb made an oath to go back to Ogygia and get Calypso—so not only does he need to die, he has to be blasted out so he can go back to her island or he'll die regardless of the antidote he gets from the gods."
Nico frowns. "Your boyfriend is the stupidest man alive."
"He's a genius that likes to overcomplicate things, but yeah, love made him stupid," Ara mumbles, looking more sad than angry. "And I'm just like him."
"Minus the genius part."
"Whatever, man."
Nico gives her a look when she doesn't react to his teasing, and he makes an attempt to cheer her up. "Listen, sometimes the fates do things that feel unjust, but in the long run, they're for the better. Leo's choice was hard to make no doubt, he would rather cut his leg than leave you, and still, he's willing to risk his life not just for you but also for Calypso and the rest of the world... that's brave."
"I don't want him to come back to me if it means it's always going to hurt him," Ara confesses worryingly. "I'd be happier looking at him from afar."
"No, you wouldn't," Nico replies in a strange voice. "You really wouldn't."
"I mean it." Her voice trembles. "I haven't been the best version of myself since I decided to become a child of Olympus... Leo is good in a way I can no longer be, and that's why he's dying. Because he's kind and selfless, and I won't give him up because I'm stubborn and selfish, so they're taking him away by force."
She looks away for a moment. Nico squeezes her shoulder tighter than he's ever touched her in the last three years. "Ara, listen... all the bad stuff I've said to you, they aren't true. You can't be perfect, that's it."
"Exactly. I should've stayed away," she presses. "Life kept telling me that romance was off-limits, that I wouldn't be able to handle it, and yet I took Leo as soon as I had the chance, and he says he doesn't mind dying but—"
"You've experienced this too many times, just in this lifetime," Nico finishes knowingly. "His reassurance feels empty, I get it."
"He could've been loved and cared for on Calypso's island, and he didn't stay because of me," she says bitterly. "I should've been the one to jump into Tartarus. But now I've got people under my care, so I can't let myself die now..."
"I don't think this is about wrong choices or bad timing," her friend retorts. "I doubt you were more deserving of the curse in your past lives than you are now—hell, I even doubt Helen was deserving of the shit show everyone made around her."
Ara rubs her forehead and groans. "I know, I know... maybe this isn't my mess to clean... but I'm right in the middle of it, so not doing anything stresses me out all the same."
"Yeah well, you've never been good at staying out of things, we know that."
"None of us is."
"That's why we get curses all the time," he shrugs. "See? Things tend to happen when it comes to demigods."
Ara shakes her head. "Sometimes I think my stupid father should've suffocated me with a pillow when he had the chance."
Nico laughs. "Same."
"I feel like I should've gone with them."
"It's FOMO," Annabeth replies, lying on Ara's bed with a cherry facemask on.
"They're searching for that poison to help Leo—"
Nike's hollering cuts through her speech. "AN A- IS A FAILING GRADE—"
"These are literally Frank's relatives," Percy reasons, his back against the wall and a peel-off mask covering his face. "You would've made them nervous. Most people think that children of Olympus attract bad luck."
"And they're right," Ara's hanging upside down with her legs propped up next to Percy, a green tea facemask on her face.
It's spa day. Once Ara realized she could buy all kinds of beauty products in New York—as long as she had the budget—she became obsessed. The first time Percy agreed to join her many years ago, he claimed to be humoring his little sister, but he loves to lie around and eat snacks while Ara puts fresh-scented stuff on his face.
Ara agreed to have a spa day today solely because her brother and Annabeth had recently come out of Tartarus, so if there was someone who deserved to use her stash of fancy facemasks, it was them. She also knows they're doing this to help her clear her mind after her dream last night, and she'd missed being pampered by her older siblings anyway.
"There is a sea serpent watching us," Percy says out of nowhere, vaguely pointing ahead. "Been there for the past ten minutes."
Ara lifts herself on her elbows. "And why aren't we doing anything about it?"
Percy shrugs. "It's trying to figure out if we're food, Festus confuses it."
"Nice," Ara lies back down. "Good headmast."
"So Leo is trying to rebuild your dragon inside the ship? How does that even work?" Annabeth asks, rummaging in a bag of chips.
A flash goes out and then Leo's voice responds. "It doesn't—yet. You guys having a fun time?"
The three teenagers look back at the door completely unbothered. "Did you get my good side?" Percy asks.
"You know, water boy, blackfacing isn't cool anymore—it never was."
"Call me water boy again and I'm freeing Nike inside your cabin," the older boy threatens. "And this is a peel-off mask, it saves me so much money on acne products I don't even care if it looks stupid."
"You want one?" Ara lifts a thin package.
"No, I came to tell y'all Piper and Frank are back," Leo's too amused by the sight that he can't move past it. "I'm sorry, what exactly is happening in here?"
"Spa day," Annabeth explains. "Never had one of those?"
Leo snorts. "Hephaestus isn't the cleanest guy around..."
"She means with Ara," Percy shows him a shit-eating grin, though it looks creepy with the peel-off still on his face. "Haven't been invited to one yet?"
Leo's smile disappears. "I didn't know it was a thing."
"I didn't think it'd be up your alley," Ara pulls her legs down and sits upright. "The only Cabin Nine campers that ever humored me were Beckendorf and Nyssa, but I had to bribe them first."
"I wanna have a spa day," Leo pouts, looking at the Polaroid he just took. "I feel discriminated."
Ara gets up and moves to her vanity, pulling off her mask. "You're invited to the next one."
"Piper and Frank are back then—that means they got the poison?" Annabeth fans her face while Percy takes off his mask.
"Yup, so we should hold a meeting," Leo approaches Ara and kisses her hair, leaving the Polaroid on her nightstand. "You don't need skincare, there's a reason why I call you Doll."
Ara chuckles. "My skincare is the reason you think I don't need it."
"Holy 'Dite, I can't do this!" Percy moans, falling back on the bed with the mask still on. "Birdy, help me..."
The girl laughs and glances at Leo before going to her brother. "We'll meet you on deck in five, alright?"
Leo looks at the trio with an uncomfortable feeling in his chest, but he manages to show a smile when he nods, although he stays consciously away from Ara so she can't feel his emotions. "Good luck putting your face back on, Nemo!"
"You're not allowed to call me that!"
Leo exits the cabin grinning, but as he walks out, his expression turns into a frown. He can't put a finger on what is bothering him, but it feels as if he were watching Ara's life slowly slip back into its old place, erasing him from the plot.
He has this dark thought that maybe those six months with him at camp were only an intermission, and now Leo is waiting for the fates to pluck him out and toss him away as they did with Michael Yew. "Well, that was a fun season! Send the next cute boy in!"
Each day he inches closer to his certain death, and Ara's future does nothing but shine brighter.

"After the sporting time, comes the legal time."
On Sunday it was reported that boxer Imane Khelif had hired a legal team, and that they were filing a complaint on her behalf. The letter begins with the line "Apres le temps sportif, vient le temps judiciaire." Which translates to "After the sporting time, comes the legal time."
The complaint was filed with the "the anti-online hatred center of the Paris public prosecutor's office" and argues that the case "will determine who initiated this misogynistic, racist and sexist campaign but will also have to focus on those who fueled this digital lynching."
Some reporting I've seen says that Lin Yu-Ting of Taiwan may join her on the case. I haven't been able to independently verify that.
I'm not a lawyer and I certainly am not familiar with defamation laws in France, so I don't have much to say about how likely it is that this case will go anywhere. (I know from personal experience that getting any kind of legal remedy for online harassment and threats can be very hard.)
But there is some historical precedent around cases like this! Here are two examples that came to mind for me immediately:
On episode two of my podcast Tested, we talked you about a newspaper article about Helen Stephens that accusing her of being “too fast” to be a woman. What we didn’t tell you, is that she actually sued Look Magazine over a related story, which used her picture and the headline “Is This A Man Or A Woman?” And she won! The court awarded her $4500, according to the papers, which is the equivalent of $98,179 today.
Here is the spread from Look Magazine that Stephens sued over, and won. Stephens is the one on the right, under the caption “Is This a Man Or a Woman?”
In Caster Semenya's memoir, she tells the following story about a strip club in Johannesburg using her image: “The owner of Teazers had come up with some clever advertising for his club. A giant billboard on a main highway in Johannesburg that featured a naked, blonde, White woman with the words “No Gender Testing Necessary” written across the bottom half of her body.” Caster’s team sued, and won R20,000 (about $1,000). Here's an image of that billboard if you want to see it.
Obviously these are not legal precedent that could be used in this case, but it's a reminder that this kind of case isn't new.
Two other thoughts on this:
This actually will not be the first case filed at this office coming out of this Olympic games. The very same office has opened a case to investigate harassment and death threats aimed at Thomas Jolly, the artistic director of the opening ceremony. Jolly alleges that he has been facing death threats and harassment, largely stemming from his use of drag queens in a segment that some assumed was based on the Last Supper (Jolly says that the painting was not his inspiration).
I'll be very interested to see the line of argumentation that the lawyers use here. The harassment that Khelif and Lin endured was awful, and/but there's a tricky line to walk here I think. Will they argue that simply being called trans is bullying? I understand that for Khelif and Lin it amounts to misgendering them, which is a form of bullying. And it also strikes me that if not handled with care, that could be a precedent we might not want to set. It reminds me a bit of the cases in which people have won defamation claims for situations in which it was suggested that they were HIV positive. Because that suggestion is still so negative that it rises above the level of the usual bar for defamation in the United States.
If you want more about the history of sex testing, listen to Tested!

Painting
"Please, don't move, your Majesty."
It's uncomfortable. So uncomfortable. I have been staying here for the past hours, striking a pose and waiting for this man, I think his name is Asclepios, to finish his painting.
And for what ?
We are four centaurs. Me, my brother Chiron, and my two daughters, Leto and Terpsichore. The only family I have left.
Last time we did this sort of thing, we were about twenty. Father was alive. Mother was alive. Abyss my brothers and sister, Paris, Patroclus and Helen were alive.
It was three years ago but it feels like a century passed since these happier moments.
Now my brother hates me. Because I want to protect the little things we have left. He calls me a tyrant, calls me a despot. He thinks he's better than me.
And that's why he chose this pose on this painting.
Maybe it's the last time we see each other. Tomorrow, he'll go with his friends and lovers to Jarghalsaikhan's army. Maybe I’ll never see him again.
But he still smiles like he is in the right and I am in the wrong.
And future generations will see it. They will remember our rivalry. They will ask why his smile is so defiant, so rebellious. They will ask why I’m despaired, why my eyes are far in the distance, the eyes of a king who was not supposed to be.
"It's finished, your Majesty."
Six months have passed. The painting is stunning, but that was expected. On it, my two daughters are equal to themselves. Terpsichore is a snake, like the ones she have tatooed on her arms. A beautiful and dangerous snake, and I admire her beauty, as grand as her mother's. Leto is the contrary, brutally honest, but brave, with loads of hope.
My face is a lie, on this painting. I never had such a regalian face during the painting sessions. Asclepios, whom I grew closer and closer of during these six months, must have spared me the indignity of having a frown, or anxiety wrinkles, or anything that would make me less of a king.
Still, this painting is a lie.
Because Chiron, my dear brother, is smiling.
And since he came back from Osghour, he has not smiled once.
"Leave me alone, brother."
Chiron's voice is tired, so far away from a year ago, where he would run everywhere and tell me I'm a coward, a traitor to the Esnothi people. Now, he's training all day long in the courtyard.
What have you seen, Chiron, that my eyes did not see ?
Why must you hate me when I love you so dearly ?
You run. Run away from your problems. Run away from me. You were a rebel, you would tell me when I’m wrong, and look at you now. Too afraid to fight.
The Games are drawing near. And you will lose, because you refuse a capable team.
You refuse to prove me wrong anymore.
And I won’t stand for it any longer.
“Fine, I’ll leave.”
But you won’t be alone much longer, brother.
I’ll make sure of it.
And if you fail, this time, it will only prove me right.
That I was right to hate those other species for taking father, mother. That I was right to pursue what our ancestors planed for us. Might makes right, after all. And I won the Games, I became King.
Even though you still beat me at our common trial, my team won, and so I won. Which means I am the best king our family had to offer, whether you like it or not. Still, this uncomfortable feeling won’t go away.
Do they deserve to live in chains ?
Did our parents, our family, die because of their pride ?
Am I committing the same mistake ?
Those Games will decide it.
Whether I win or lose, I’ll finally know who was right, and who was wrong. And maybe, after that, you’ll cease to haunt my every step. You and your arrogant smile. Until then, dear brother, we are at war. And I’ll give you the best army I can find to defeat me.

Hiiiiiii I just saw the character ask thing :))))
Can you tell me about your NOTP, random headcanon and unpopular opinion about Helen of Sparta?
Thank you so much!!!
I'll save the one that'll get me crucified last! 👍
Random headcanon: Both Odysseus and Penelope were given a "photographic memory" by Athena. When Athena had "forsaken" Odysseus it was taken away. Makes it nice because a lot of the more fucked up parts of the Odyssey are a bit more "fuzzy" for him. And he hates feeling "so out of sorts". He gets it back though.
Also Athena technically took Penelope under her "wing" like, one month before Odysseus.
Unpopular Helen Opinion: In MY FICS, (It's okay if you don't agree!) She is built like Rose Quartz from Steven Universe. She doesn't have a perfect "hourglass figure". She's got some pudge on her tummy. Girl is TALL (Demigod) and CHUBBY. One of the important components of Helen and Menelaus' relationship is that they are both strong enough to lift each other. Also she's the most beautiful woman in the world and chubby women are hot af lskdjf She also SUCKS at singing. She's good at wrestling and spear work. (Sparta. I also love athletic women. Plenty of chubby women are also athletic af. If you think otherwise, literally look up women's Olympic sports participants.)
Homies, know that my NOTP can be YOUR OTP and that's okay! We can still love each other and be friends! Ignore the rest if you just don't want to see that, but know that while it kind of will be in my fics, it's probably not in the way you want it to be.
Please don't hate me and know I don't hate you or think I'm "correct"!
It's OdyDio.
These are the reasons why so avoid them if you don't want to read that! :'D This is the only time I will ever be on the "Odysseus hate train" because he's such an asshole to Diomedes.
I feel so bad about it. 😭 I'm a freak who likes Odysseus/Menelaus (Big BROTP) I think it's because Odysseus is just... SO MEAN to Diomedes. And when he's not mean, he's just neutral. There is not really any "Diomedes, you're the best guy!". Especially when have Sthenelus and Diomedes saying I love you to each other To ME, they are like co-workers who work GREAT together on the battlefield and on missions, but never do anything outside of that.
When Diomedes asks for help, Odysseus sprints away from battle. When Diomedes compliments him before the night raid, Odysseus literally is like "Dude, you're not the only person who knows I'm good at stealing. Let's go."
Odysseus, that long-suffering, godlike man, replied: “Son of Tydeus, don’t over-praise me, or censure me. You’re speaking to the Argives, who know everything about me. Let’s go. Night is passing quickly. Dawn approaches. The stars have shifted forward. Most of the night has passed, two thirds of it, with one third left.”
(Ian Johnston, Book 10)
Odysseus is an asshole but he's still so mean to Diomedes! 😭 ESPECIALLY WHEN DIOMEDES IS SO FUCKING NICE TO ODYSSEUS!!! I know that's what probably makes them so compelling to so many lovely folks but I love fluff BECAUSE I'm so tired of toxic relationships irl. I don't...I don't see how I can make OdyDio fluffy 😥 With OdyDio, I feel like I'm watching my bestie (Diomedes) get back with their toxic ex who mistreats them (Odysseus). Diomedes is actually quite polite to the others. Even when Agamemnon scolds him, he tells Sthenelus to think nothing of it. He compliments Odysseus! He listens to the gods when they tell him "Hey stop fighting!" and listens to Athena! Like he's violent and a killing machine but he's respectful! He's a traumatized, respectful, killing machine! He bitches at Paris but everyone has done that! That's something everyone partakes in /j
It bothers me even more because when Odysseus is with Penelope, he's so wonderful and loving? And that the Odyssey, literally Odysseus' story/Epic, doesn't even really mention Diomedes? That goes to show how little Diomedes means to Odysseus.
And since Odysseus runs away from Diomedes when he asks for help, it boggles my mind that books earlier, he goes into a rage when his friend gets killed!
[...]but hit Leucus, a brave companion of Odysseus, in the groin, as he was dragging Simoeisius away. His hands let go. He fell down on the corpse. Enraged at Leucus’ slaughter, Odysseus strode up, through the front ranks, armed in gleaming bronze. Going in close, he took his stand. Looking round, he hurled his glittering spear. As he threw, Trojans moved back, but the spear found a mark. It hit Democoön, Priam’s bastard son, who had come from Abydos, where he bred horses for their speed. Angry for his friend, Odysseus speared him in the temple.
(Ian Johnston, Book 4)
Odysseus, you prick!!! You go on a rampage when your buddy gets killed but sprint away when your STILL ALIVE BUDDY asks you for help?! ASSHOLE
They ARE kind of friends/frenemies during the end of the war but it's a weird thing where Diomedes cares about Odysseus but Odysseus tolerates him. Like he left him to die. I love Odysseus. He's my special little guy but he treats Diomedes, another special little guy, like shit 😞
They also have a fairly large agegap, (Odysseus being one of the older kings while Diomedes is the youngest. If you bring up pederasty, you will be smited.) and have very little in common other than them both being Athena's pets. Odysseus is a fucked up lil warrior trickster who loves his wife and child more than life itself while Diomedes is a young child soldier boy who is incredibly duty bound and war is where he feels most comfortable.
Also just...Most of anything about OdyDio (fanart/fanfic/etc.) it's of them fighting or bickering or betraying each other or being very sexual. Even OdyPenDio STILL feels very "OdyDio... + Penelope in the footnotes". I already plan to write Odysseus (and Penelope) as Aspec CODED and so I...just really don't care for that??? There's barely ANYTHING of them being soft. BECAUSE THEM TWO TOGETHER just aren't soft... I personally don't like couples that are mean to each other 😭 (I'm not even including the whole "betrayal with the Pallidium" because it makes me sad to think about. I don't consider it canon.)
Menelaus though?
I have plans 😌 These two bring me comfort and are a special brotp
