Submission #90: Yet another take on Sonic Adventure 2

(Ok so quick warning, this part here was written after I finished everything else and Warning: it’s pretty long…like REALLY long… this was supposed to be a quick concept thing but I ended up creating a whole ass rewrite of a section of SA2 I would recommend you set aside like 15-20 minutes to read this as I’ve included a lot of detail)

Convoluted title I know but this one is going to be pretty jumbled up as it’s just an idea I’ve thought off and wanna see if anyone does anything with it. You know how Amy has the rings similar to Shadows inhibitors, hers are probably weights whilst shadows are inhibitor rings, I’m not sure if this has been mentioned or something but I think this idea could be cool, though it would also deviate from the original story of SA2 quite a bit, let me explain.

My idea is that with Amy’s modern design for SA1 and SA2, her outfit would be the exact same but without the rings on her wrists (maybe replace them with the bands she has on her riders design). Instead she doesn’t get the rings until the end of SA2 when sonic returns to the ark after him and shadow fought the final hazard. Obviously the story would have to get reworked slightly with Shadow and Amy possibly having a few more scenes together and give Amy her own character arc, she still doesn’t fully believe in herself as she isn’t treated as an equal. (because let’s be honest the early 3D days Amy was ignored and not taken seriously by almost everyone in CD, SA1 and SA2, including Sonic).

One way to make Amy more important to the story of SA2 is to have her get to the ark much quicker so there could be an extra scene or two with her and Shadow. (It doesn’t even have to be shipping stuff but Shadow having flashbacks of Maria through Amy’s words similar to the how Amy helps Shadow remember Maria’s final words in SA2) A way I think would work best to get Amy on the Space Colony Ark quicker is during prison island, instead of Rouge being trapped fighting the R-1/A Flying Dog (the Rouge boss fight in prison island, I’d show a picture but I don’t know how to)…

…she fights Amy instead. The way this would occur is that when Amy would free sonic, he would tell her he needs to find that faker and make him pay, then runs off instantly, leaving Amy behind. In the hero story, after the stage metal harbor there would be a cutscene with Amy walking around, saying that she’s lost and she’d get annoyed and say out loud “I would sacrifice anything for everyone to take me more seriously, even that fake hedgehog” (Remember this) (Also this might seem out of character for but at this point she‘s like 13? I’m not sure but she’s angry and this is something someone her age would say. Keep in mind she only sees Shadow as a Sonic copy, thinks he’s a Villain so she doesn’t really care about like, same with her and metal sonic.) This part would be in the dark story Playthrough.

Then she runs into Rouge, Amy remembers she was with Eggman and fights her, trying to get answers however they both get locked in the room like Rouge did in SA2. The story would continue as normal with shadow showing up and surprisingly, he’d save both of them without hesitation, teleporting to the ark just before prison island blows up. A scene would take place right after with Amy looking confused and relieved however Rouge instantly begins questioning why he saved them, Shadow says it would’ve been more hassle for him to get the emeralds off Rouge in a few seconds but Rouge counters by saying that’s a fair point but he could’ve just left her behind (pointing to amy) however he actively ran over to her and saved her too. He just walks off saying she talks too much however amy runs grabs his hand and says. “Thank you” Shadow just stares back for a second and says “it won’t happen again…” then walks off. (This would purely be a dark story cutscene) To me this makes more sense as she doesn’t really do much in the story other than help shadow, maybe even have sonic and tails think she died (and in the hero story, actually have the player think she’s dead for most of the story) and have sonic realise that he should’ve treated her much kinder and as an equal and not someone who holds them back. This could even make sonic wanna go after shadow even more as he thinks that him and eggman killed her, to further set up the rivalry his shadow but that part is just me throwing ideas around for a potential SA2 rewrite I’m thinking of doing. This new concept also won’t be a typical “damsel in distress” as it’s flipped on its head since Shadow actually saved her by “kidnapping” her. Let’s say in this hypothetical rewrite Shadow starts off like the others, he doesn’t take Amy seriously at all similar to everyone else as he’s only known her as “sonic’s fangirl” but Amy begins to learn that there’s something more to shadow, he doesn’t just want to conquer the earth like eggman, he wants revenge on everyone on earth (maybe he’d say something like “they took everything I cared about away from me” when she’d ask him why he’s doing this, I dunno) and she’d grow to understand him. Through this, shadow would learn to treat Amy as an equal as she says she’s fed up of not being taken seriously by anyone so shadow does just that, he actually begins to listen to her closely. Through shadow treating her as an equal and talking to her, he begins to realise she’s making valid points about how no-one deserves to be killed but he doesn’t falter in his mission however she’s slowly chipping away at Shadows exterior as he acts slightly kinder to both her and Rouge. Maybe even Rouge could get some development from Amy too with Rouge listening in on one of their convocations and amy says that “I try to be kind to everyone, even though sonic doesn’t treat me as an equal…I know being kind works because you’ve treated me as an equal because of it…” This causes Rouge to hold some of the master emerald shards and think…She’s used to being around selfish people so that’s all she knows but being kind…She’s never tried that. (this could explain why Rouge gives the master emerald pieces to Knuckles after he saves her because she’s learning to be kind as well)

At the end this, all this buildup and the extra scenes would would make it more believable for Shadow to be convinced by Amy and she will also learn a lesson here, correct me if I’m wrong but shadow would be the first person to treat her as an equal. The way shadow would truly treat her as an equal is by actually thanking her, at the risk of sounding too cliché he would tell her. “Thank you…you’re worth much more than you think, Amy Rose” This coming from the ultimate life form himself would mean something, at least to Amy. After that he says “I need to keep my promise to Maria…and to you” then he runs off. When Shadow appears to fight the Biolizard, Knuckles would ask why he suddenly changed sides, he could say something like “That friend of yours, Amy Rose, you should all thank her…” With sonic responding with a in a guilty tone “Yeah…I know that now…” And the same thing would happen, Super Sonic and Super Shadow would fight the Final Hazard and using the chaos emeralds to become super for the first time along with taking off his inhibitor rings would take its toll on shadow and cause him to fall to earth…only leaving his inhibitor rings remaining like in the original story.

The final scene of this version of SA2 would have Sonic returning aboard the ark without Shadow, he has a smile but it looks sad most of them would congratulate Sonic but Rouge would ask where’s Shadow? Sonic would close his eyes and let out a shaky breath, saying that he couldn’t have won without Shadow… (I do recommend that this part is best experienced whilst listening to SA2s “the last scene” OST on loop whilst reading this part for extra emotional kicks, trust me it makes a difference. this all is purely emotional but in a good way so you have been warned.)

(Each “ending scene” between the rivals would take place in this order) Firstly a unique one, amy and rouges reaction to shadow death. Sonic walks over to Rouge and Amy who are standing at the centre of the room, giving them Shadows inhibitor rings and says “This is all I could get before I saw him fall to earth…” He’d give one to both of them and say he’s sorry. Rouge would look away and walk off, holding her tears in however Amy’s eyes widen…like she’s realising something. The blue hedgehog would look at amy and speak. “I’m sorry…I never took you seriously, even after you’d stop chasing me…I promise to listen to you like I do with Tails, Knuckles and even Eggman…” He puts a hand on her shoulder to comfort her but she drops shadows ring and she slaps sonics hand away and shakily whispers… “No…” This confuses everyone but this time she shouts…tears streaming from her eyes “I did this to him…I don’t deserve any of your respect… I sent him to his death, he wanted to help because I begged him too. I killed him” “I even said I would sacrifice anything for all of you to take me seriously, even him and…it feels like I did! It feels like I sent him to his death just to get you guys to listen to me! It’s all my fault!” With that she runs off, running past everyone, sonic and tails would try to chase after her however surprisingly Rouge tells them to leave her, that she’ll talk to Amy. The second “ending” scene would take place and it would be another unique one. Rouge would find her where the convocation between Shadow and Amy took place about how she knows being kind pays off because shadow begun to treat her as an equal. She’s crying and Rouge walks over to her and just watches, unsure of what to do however Amy wipes her tears and says she can’t be weak… Rouge nods her head and helps her up however Amy asks Rouge something… “S-Shadows inhibitor rings… could I have them?” Rouge at first looks confused but then after smiles and nods her head, giving them to her. The final scene between Tails and Eggman would play. Eggman and Tails look ahead at the stars…The fox is unsure on how to feel, they won but it feels like they lost…surprisingly Dr Eggman speaks up in a tone Tails has never heard before. “As a child, I looked up to my grandfather because of all the great things he accomplished in his life. He was my hero, and I wanted to be a great scientist like him. But… did he really mean to destroy us? To destroy Me?” Doctor Eggman, the most renowned genius in the world sounds so defeated, even cracking at one point, even after Tails and Sonic have stopped him time and time again, the mad Doctor has always bounced back…but now…he sounds so defeated. Much to the doctors surprise, Tails speaks up, attempting to comfort him. “I’m…Im not sure but one thing I know, he was tipped over the Edge, pushed to a limit that no person should ever have to endure, he lost everything and took it out on everyone…he had the right to be mad but he didn’t have the right to destroy everything… I…I don’t know what to say Eg-“ Tails stops himself “Ivo Robotnik, I’m sorry you had to go through that, I can’t imagine what it must feel like.” The Doctor looks down and wipes his glasses clean… “T-Thanks… I’m going to be shutting down the Space Colony Ark in 30 minutes, that’s all the time everyone has up here, then it’s never to be set foot on again” With that, the Doctor walks off, tails looks back to see Sonic look at Ivo Robotnik. They seem to stare at each other, almost as if they’re having a mutual understanding through their sight alone but the Doctor kneels down and sonic does something unexpected, he surprisingly hugs the Doctor, he can’t hear what they’re saying but Tails figures it’s private…but he could’ve sworn he saw the Doctor wipe his eyes… The scene between Rouge and Sonic would play after that Rouge walks over to the blue blur and speaks. “I calmed Amy down…I don’t know when she’ll feel better, could you and the others…be there for her? Help her get over her grief?” Sonic looks at the bat and slowly nods… “I will, I promise. Me, Tails and even Knuckles will help her, or at least try as much as we can… Again I’m sorry about Shadow” Rouge looks at him and shakes her head. “You tried your best…in the end that’s all that matters. But do you think…that the doctor only creates him for revenge? Or something more?” She questions with sonic looking at the planet below. “I’m not sure…but what in do know is that he was a brave and heroic hedgehog who sacrificed his life to save everyone, that’s who he was.” Rouge nods her head and walks away. The scene between Knuckles and Rouge would play. Rouge is standing, looking out to the coldness of space, uncomfortably with her Arms crossed and biting her lip, trying desperately to hold back her tears, she may not have known shadow for long or as personally as Amy did…but it still doesn’t change anything, right now all she feels is the coldness surrounding her. “Got any plans” A gruff but soothing and kind voice asks, Rouge slowly turns around to see the Echidna looking at her with…worry? Surely that can’t be right, the same Echidna who crashed the shuttle the heroes used to get here… “Y-yeah, I think I’m going to give up this line of work, too much work for too little pay, plus-“ She looks at Knuckles’ reflection in the window “I’ve got something better than jewels in mind…” She says with a crack in her voice, she hopes that the Echidna didn’t pick up on it, that’s he’s as dimwitted as everyone thinks he is but obviously he catches on… “Hey…are you okay?” “Y-yeah…I’m just looking down below. It’s beautiful, don’t you think?” She says, desperately trying to steer the conversation away from current events. Knuckles looks down at earth and grunts… “It was…but after today…I can’t look at anything the same way again” He pulls out the master emerald which has shrunken down. “Heh, Tikal helped me learn to do this, makes it much more easier to carry around, want to hold it? I know you love jewels…” Rouge looks at him wide eyed…why had he offered to let her hold the master emerald? Surely he’d know she could easily run off with it, Knuckles opens up her hand with his own and gives it to her, letting her hold it. “I-I think it might make you feel at least a little bit better…” That’s when it clicks in her head…he’s trying to comfort her, in his own little odd way, he’s trying to comfort her, make her feel better, sadly at the realisation of this, here eyes begin to water up, her vision getting blurry and the facade breaks, she slowly begins to let the tears fall from her eyes… She drops the master emerald on the floor and cries into knuckles’ shoulder, hugging him as hard as she can, expecting him to push her away or shout at her that she dropped the master emerald but…that’s not what happens, he holds her tightly and tells her. “Don’t worry…It’s alright to cry, he was your friend” And finally the scene between sonic and Amy would place but slightly altered. Here it is… Planet Earth, such a beautiful and disturbing place, after this day, after what he’s heard and seen happen, he can’t look at it the same way again, what anyone can be capable off if they are pushed enough to the edge… Sonic looks ahead at Earth, the stars and and feels…guilty…he was there, he saw Shadow fall however he lied to everyone… After the final chaos control on the Space Colony Ark which retuned it to its normal position in space, no longer heading towards earth, Super Sonic looked around and saw two Rings floating, he picked them up and flew over to where he saw shadow, no longer in his Super form, very slowly moving away from the ark and towards earth. Suoer Sonic quickly flew over to shadow however what happened…was heartbreaking. Sonic would’ve been able to catch the ultimate Lifeform, in fact he should’ve but Shadow…Shadow pushed him away, he said that he doesn’t deserve to live after what he’s done, he broke Maria’s promise, hurt so many people and almost killed everyone. Sonic told him that he deserves a second chance to make them happy but Shadow smiled… “Sonic…it’s funny you know, I think in another time, we could’ve been friends, maybe if things turned out differently we would be…but we’re both running out of energy, my super form has already run out and yours… it’s going to run out anytime now. So this is my final gift to you…goodbye, Sonic The Hedgehog.” “SHADOW! NO!” Shadow ended up using his remaining energy to use chaos control on sonic to teleport him back to the Ark, which right after it happened, Sonic’s Super form ran out…

From the observation deck Tails told sonic that Eggman was going to shut down the Space colony ark in 30 minutes which was around 20 minutes ago so the teleporters from earth and the Ark wouldn’t work, Sonic said he’s gonna catch up with tails nodding and walking off, leaving Sonic alone in the observation deck… “The Ultimate Life form…Shadow The Hedgehog” Just as he goes to walk away he sees Amy walk over into the observation deck, her eyes are puffed from crying but he can tell she’s trying to be strong, he smiles and walks over to her. “I’m…Im so sorry Amy…I don’t know how close you got with Shadow, but I couldn’t save him… I appreciate you easing off on the romance but I shouldn’t have just ignored you when you needed my help…” “I forgive you” Amy replies with a smile, a sad smile but a smile nonetheless. “People make mistakes, we’ve seen that today…but we also know that we can change for the better…so here’s to a better tomorrow Sonic.” Amy extends her arm for a handshake with Sonic smiles and accepts. “Here’s to a better tomorrow” However he looks down at her wrist and sees something…new. “Hey…are those? Amy looks at her wrist and let’s put another smile, but this time it’s not a sad one… “Yeah…these were his, I asked Rouge if I could have them, she said yes. Even when Eggman saw me wear them I could’ve sworn I saw a genuine smile from him. I think they look great but I also want to remember him like I remember you. As a hero, someone I admire and want to be like.” Sonic closes his eyes smiles. “Me and you both Amy…me and you both” Amy asks if he’s ready to leave and sonic Smiles. “Yeah, let’s go back to the planet as cool and blue as me…” They leave the room and the lights turn off but sonic looks back one last time. “Sayonara…Shadow The Hedgehog”

Author’s notes: (you can skip if you want cuz this is long enough already but it gives additional context to some scenes. There are also some other submissions I’ve written noted here to) If you haven’t noticed I have written some submissions here before as (I think?) an anonymous user but finally made an account, specifically for this blog. Most notably Submission #59: A take on Shadamy I’m 60-40 on this, it’s not written the best but I think my concept of their relationship is good enough Submission #68: Yet another take on Shadamy Not particularly proud of this one I can’t lie, the concept is decent but I didn’t proof-read it so it’s it’s sloppily written, I might either make a part 2 as a submission or just rewrite it and make it a complete story, though there was that one person who enjoy commented that they enjoyed it, I’m glad they did Submission #74: Yet another Shadamy Scene Rewrite I think it’s my best Shadamy piece I’ve done, it’s a very simple SA2 (can you tell it’s my favourite sonic story/game yet?)scene rewrite based on shadow and Amy’s first encounter on prison island. Though I kinda wish I called the title of my first submission “yet a take on Shadamy” to fit in line with my “yet _____ Shadamy _____” I wanted those final scenes to pull at the heart strings, sure it’s possibly too emotional for a Sonic story but I really don’t care, all of those scenes were based on experiences in my life so I tried to write the characters as “realistic” as I possibly could. I even snuck in some Knuxouge because I think it’s the only sonic ship that should be canon in the games, it makes the most sense to me. I also really hope I didn’t come off as bashing Sonic, that really wasn’t my intention, I really like Sonic as a character but I think this was the most realistic character development I could’ve given him. Rouge was definitely more emotional here but I think that makes sense, I didn’t even think of knuckles consoling her until a bit after so I promise it wasn’t just for a knuxouge moment. I couldn’t really do much with Tails, best I could do is have him sympathise with Eggman and referring to him as “Ivo Robotnik” was my was of showing that tails truly cared about Eggman in that moment. Also Sonic hugging Eggman might be slightly out of character but everyone is at their emotional limit here, including Eggman himself was hurt here, he found out the man he admired, his grandfather didn’t just not care about him but was willing to kill him, if felt personal to him and sonic saw that… What I tried to do was not to create a Shadamy story (even though it certainly comes across as such because even though I love Shadamy, I don’t want any relationships in any main sonic games, hint at them sure but not proper relationships). Instead I tried to create a story with the basis of Sonic adventure 2 (my favourite sonic story) and improve certain aspects. It just so happened that in my eyes, giving Amy a proper role would do exactly that and filling in details such as making it even more believable that Shadow would turn good at the end, giving a proper character arc to Amy and improving on Rouge’s and giving Sonic a character Arc with both realising that people can change for the better because knuckles wasn’t evil in 3&K, he was tricked. Sonic would also learn to take Amy more seriously. Side note but I’ve always head people say that sonic has always been a flat character however I disagree, I think that became the case after SA2 because in that game, he learned that not everyone is purely good or bad, he learned that people will do bad things for good reasons and good things for bad reasons. Another detail this adds is making it way more believable for Sonic to go back to Eggman when he takes Amy hostage because in SA2, sonic and tails just leave amy wondering around, both creating a liability and ignoring their friend however up to this point (in the hero story), Sonic, Tails and eventually Knuckles thought Amy had died on Prison Island but hearing her alive and being taken hostage would make it a good twist from a story standpoint along with making it WAY more believable that Sonic would rush back to Eggman. (even though tails was there). Of course I had to add a scene between sonic and shadow, making it make more sense as to why shadow fell to earth and sonic couldn’t save him, I wanted to add shadow saying that they could’ve been friends in another time because that WAS true at one point, in heroes and 06 they respected each other and were friends with a slightly rivalry. In shadow the hedgehog, minus all the “evil” paths (which I don’t seem as canon) shadow and sonic are usually on good terms. Only in Boom is where there was an active distaste between the two. Anyway that’s enough of me rambling. I originally wasn’t going to write some scenes and just skim through them like I have done with others but the ones near the end were too important for me to just simply skip. I’ve been writing this for about close to 3 hours now on my phone and I still have a few things to say but I’m satisfied with what I’ve written for now. I’m going to be honest but this is the most emotional piece of work I’ve ever written, (coming from a guy who doesn’t think these characters beyond a few should be all “lovey-dovey” but speak through their actions and what they’re willing so do to make friend/partner happy) like I did with knuckles here. Anyway I’m not going to link my AO3 here because my work isn’t nearly as emotional, it doesn’t have much shadamy and I also don’t wanna self promote here as well but if I write a SA2 rewrite with this concept, if I’m allowed to link it I will however it won’t be for a while as uni is killing me. I hope you all enjoyed me rambling, I apologise for it being so damn long but I just has WAY too much to say and just ended up writing another part of a fanfic. I do have thoughts on Amy’s bracelets! This headcanon is a good overview, and it includes a link that goes into greater detail. It’d be interesting if they had taken your approach, too. I like it!

You’re not the only one who’s wondered if Amy ever felt guilty about being the one to convince Shadow to fight. I have a super old headcanon about it. It’d be nice if the others had had a wake-up call of some kind around then that they shouldn’t just leave her behind and ignore her. It was a trend that continued for far too long. I also never liked Tails’ line to Eggman in the game, as the chipper “We all did it together! :D“ declaration sounds super jarring after Eggman’s serious line. I really wish he had matched Eggman’s tone like this in the game.

I recognized the style of the title and submission formatting, so I did remember you. Great to see you made an account! If you ever do make that rewrite or write any shadamy stories, I’ll gladly reblog them from your blog. Just let me know!

Honestly? I’ve been considering doing a shadamy-centric rewrite of SA2 myself, but it’d be much different. In it, Sonic either never existed or died sometime before the events of SA2, and a more mature, possibly older Amy stepped up as the leader and goes on adventures with Tails and Knuckles. It’d be named “Amy Adventure 2” in reference to that one SA2 mod that replaces all the playable characters with Amy. I don’t know if I’ll ever get around to it or how I’d format it, but it’s a fun idea. I’ve got a bunch of other things to take care of first, though!

Was planning on doing a comic of Kit giving Surge a gift (based on another Bumblekast scenario) but I don’t think I’ll have enough time to complete before xmas so I guess I’ll convert it into a short fanfic.

Here’s the comic script I had planned though up to a certain point, it was the first time I’d actually done a planned script like this haha (I usually just make it up as I go) so I wanted to show it off before I convert it :P

Panel 1: Kit sits in the middle of the floor, multiple half done projects surround him while he sits with his head in his hands.

One project is a half knit sweater

Another is a pinata that looks like sonic’s head

Another is a handpainted mug with “live laugh love” half etched in the side

Another is a broken taiko drum

Kit: “What in the world am I going to get her…”

Panel 2:

[insert flashback box] Kit & Surge stand in a panel, Kit looks at Surge smiling but scared

Kit: Surge! Wh-wha-what did you want for the holidays ma’am?

Surge’s expression is a confused disgust

Surge: Why?

Panel 3:

A close up of Kit’s face, blushing and more nervous, avoiding eye contact, sweating

Kit:I-It’s, you know, tradition and I-I thought it’d be nice… (the text for ‘nice’ gets smaller)

Panel 4:

Surge’s expression is the same, if not more exaggerated than in panel 2.

A thought bubble starts processing but she can’t think of anything

Surge: Ehh…you’re my support unit aren’t you? You should just know what I want.

She blows him off but looks proud of herself that she gave a good answer and walks away

Panel 5:

Kit: *mentally* NOOO!!

Kit: (more sweating) haha…right…

Panel 6: [flashback ended]

Kit: Surge just gets whatever she wants whenever she wants. She’s so impulsive too, one thing she wants one week she hates the second, How am I supposed to shop for her?

Behind Kit are memories of Surge stealing things from various stores (CDs, clothes, , food)

Panel 7 & 8:

Kit is rolling around on the floor trying to figure out what to do. He rolls in front of the handmade sweater

Panel 9: profile view of kit facing the sweater, he grips it in his hands

Kit: Even if I made something, she’d never accept it… Is it even worthy of her…why can’t I shake this need to give her something so badly? I wish I could just get rid of it…

You know how Amy has the rings similar to Shadows inhibitors, hers are probably weights whilst shadows are inhibitor rings, I’m not sure if this has been mentioned or something but I think this idea could be cool, though it would also deviate from the original story of SA2 quite a bit, let me explain.

My idea is that with Amy’s modern design for SA1 and SA2, her outfit would be the exact same but without the rings on her wrists (maybe replace them with the bands she has on her riders design).

Instead she doesn’t get the rings until the end of SA2 when sonic returns to the ark after him and shadow fought the final hazard. Obviously the story would have to get reworked slightly with Shadow and Amy possibly having a few more scenes together and give Amy her own character arc, she still doesn’t fully believe in herself as she isn’t treated as an equal. (because let’s be honest the early 3D days Amy was ignored and not taken seriously by almost everyone in CD, SA1 and SA2, including Sonic).

A way I think would work best to get Amy on the Space Colony Ark quicker is during prison island, instead of Rouge being trapped fighting the R-1/A Flying Dog she fights Amy instead.

The way this would occur is that when Amy would free sonic, he would tell her he needs to find that faker and make him pay, then runs off instantly, leaving Amy behind. In the hero story, after the stage metal harbor there would be a cutscene with Amy walking around, saying that she’s lost and she’d get annoyed and say out loud

“I would sacrifice anything for everyone to take me more seriously, even that fake hedgehog”

(Remember this)

(Also this might seem out of character for but at this point she‘s like 13? I’m not sure but she’s angry and this is something someone her age would say. Keep in mind she only sees Shadow as a Sonic copy, thinks he’s a Villain so she doesn’t really care about like, same with her and metal sonic.)

This part would be in the dark story Playthrough.

A scene would take place right after with Amy looking confused and relieved however Rouge instantly begins questioning why he saved them, Shadow says it would’ve been more hassle for him to get the emeralds off Rouge in a few seconds but Rouge counters by saying that’s a fair point but he could’ve just left her behind (pointing to amy) however he actively ran over to her and saved her too. He just walks off saying she talks too much however amy runs grabs his hand and says.

“Thank you”

Shadow just stares back for a second and says “it won’t happen again…” then walks off. (This would purely be a dark story cutscene)

To me this makes more sense as she doesn’t really do much in the story other than help shadow, maybe even have sonic and tails think she died (and in the hero story, actually have the player think she’s dead for most of the story) and have sonic realise that he should’ve treated her much kinder and as an equal and not someone who holds them back. This could even make sonic wanna go after shadow even more as he thinks that him and eggman killed her, to further set up the rivalry his shadow but that part is just me throwing ideas around for a potential SA2 rewrite I’m thinking of doing. This new concept also won’t be a typical “damsel in distress” as it’s flipped on its head since Shadow actually saved her by “kidnapping” her.

Let’s say in this hypothetical rewrite Shadow starts off like the others, he doesn’t take Amy seriously at all similar to everyone else as he’s only known her as “sonic’s fangirl” but Amy begins to learn that there’s something more to shadow, he doesn’t just want to conquer the earth like eggman, he wants revenge on everyone on earth (maybe he’d say something like “they took everything I cared about away from me” when she’d ask him why he’s doing this, I dunno) and she’d grow to understand him.

Through this, shadow would learn to treat Amy as an equal as she says she’s fed up of not being taken seriously by anyone so shadow does just that, he actually begins to listen to her closely. Through shadow treating her as an equal and talking to her, he begins to realise she’s making valid points about how no-one deserves to be killed but he doesn’t falter in his mission however she’s slowly chipping away at Shadows exterior as he acts slightly kinder to both her and Rouge.

Maybe even Rouge could get some development from Amy too with Rouge listening in on one of their convocations and amy says that

“I try to be kind to everyone, even though sonic doesn’t treat me as an equal…I know being kind works because you’ve treated me as an equal because of it…”

This causes Rouge to hold some of the master emerald shards and think…She’s used to being around selfish people so that’s all she knows but being kind…She’s never tried that.

(this could explain why Rouge gives the master emerald pieces to Knuckles after he saves her because she’s learning to be kind as well)

“Thank you…you’re worth much more than you think, Amy Rose”

This coming from the ultimate life form himself would mean something, at least to Amy.

After that he says

“I need to keep my promise to Maria…and to you” then he runs off.

When Shadow appears to fight the Biolizard, Knuckles would ask why he suddenly changed sides, he could say something like

“That friend of yours, Amy Rose, you should all thank her…”

With sonic responding with a in a guilty tone

“Yeah…I know that now…”

And the same thing would happen, Super Sonic and Super Shadow would fight the Final Hazard and using the chaos emeralds to become super for the first time along with taking off his inhibitor rings would take its toll on shadow and cause him to fall to earth…only leaving his inhibitor rings remaining like in the original story.

Sonic would close his eyes and let out a shaky breath, saying that he couldn’t have won without Shadow…

(I do recommend that this part is best experienced whilst listening to SA2s “the last scene” OST on loop whilst reading this part for extra emotional kicks, trust me it makes a difference. this all is purely emotional but in a good way so you have been warned.)

(Each “ending scene” between the rivals would take place in this order)

Firstly a unique one, amy and rouges reaction to shadow death.

Sonic walks over to Rouge and Amy who are standing at the centre of the room, giving them Shadows inhibitor rings and says

“This is all I could get before I saw him fall to earth…”

He’d give one to both of them and say he’s sorry. Rouge would look away and walk off, holding her tears in however Amy’s eyes widen…like she’s realising something. The blue hedgehog would look at amy and speak.

“I’m sorry…I never took you seriously, even after you’d stop chasing me…I promise to listen to you like I do with Tails, Knuckles and even Eggman…”

He puts a hand on her shoulder to comfort her but she drops shadows ring and she slaps sonics hand away and shakily whispers…

“No…”

This confuses everyone but this time she shouts...tears streaming from her eyes

“I did this to him…I don’t deserve any of your respect… I sent him to his death, he wanted to help because I begged him too. I killed him”

“I even said I would sacrifice anything for all of you to take me seriously, even him and…it feels like I did! It feels like I sent him to his death just to get you guys to listen to me! It’s all my fault!”

With that she runs off, running past everyone, sonic and tails would try to chase after her however surprisingly Rouge tells them to leave her, that she’ll talk to Amy.

The second “ending” scene would take place and it would be another unique one.

Rouge would find her where the convocation between Shadow and Amy took place about how she knows being kind pays off because shadow begun to treat her as an equal. She’s crying and Rouge walks over to her and just watches, unsure of what to do however Amy wipes her tears and says she can’t be weak…

Rouge nods her head and helps her up however Amy asks Rouge something…

“S-Shadows inhibitor rings… could I have them?”

Rouge at first looks confused but then after smiles and nods her head, giving them to her.

The final scene between Tails and Eggman would play.

Eggman and Tails look ahead at the stars…The fox is unsure on how to feel, they won but it feels like they lost…surprisingly Dr Eggman speaks up in a tone Tails has never heard before.

“As a child, I looked up to my grandfather because of all the great things he accomplished in his life. He was my hero, and I wanted to be a great scientist like him. But... did he really mean to destroy us? To destroy Me?”

Doctor Eggman, the most renowned genius in the world sounds so defeated, even cracking at one point, even after Tails and Sonic have stopped him time and time again, the mad Doctor has always bounced back…but now…he sounds so defeated.

Much to the doctors surprise, Tails speaks up, attempting to comfort him.

“I’m…Im not sure but one thing I know, he was tipped over the Edge, pushed to a limit that no person should ever have to endure, he lost everything and took it out on everyone…he had the right to be mad but he didn’t have the right to destroy everything… I…I don’t know what to say Eg-“

Tails stops himself

“Ivo Robotnik, I’m sorry you had to go through that, I can’t imagine what it must feel like.”

The Doctor looks down and wipes his glasses clean…

“T-Thanks… I’m going to be shutting down the Space Colony Ark in 30 minutes, that’s all the time everyone has up here, then it’s never to be set foot on again”

With that, the Doctor walks off, tails looks back to see Sonic look at Ivo Robotnik. They seem to stare at each other, almost as if they’re having a mutual understanding through their sight alone but the Doctor kneels down and sonic does something unexpected, he surprisingly hugs the Doctor, he can’t hear what they’re saying but Tails figures it’s private…but he could’ve sworn he saw the Doctor wipe his eyes…

The scene between Rouge and Sonic would play after that

Rouge walks over to the blue blur and speaks.

“I calmed Amy down…I don’t know when she’ll feel better, could you and the others…be there for her? Help her get over her grief?”

Sonic looks at the bat and slowly nods…

“I will, I promise. Me, Tails and even Knuckles will help her, or at least try as much as we can… Again I’m sorry about Shadow”

Rouge looks at him and shakes her head.

“You tried your best…in the end that’s all that matters. But do you think…that the doctor only creates him for revenge? Or something more?”

She questions with sonic looking at the planet below.

“I’m not sure…but what in do know is that he was a brave and heroic hedgehog who sacrificed his life to save everyone, that’s who he was.”

Rouge nods her head and walks away.

The scene between Knuckles and Rouge would play.

Rouge is standing, looking out to the coldness of space, uncomfortably with her Arms crossed and biting her lip, trying desperately to hold back her tears, she may not have known shadow for long or as personally as Amy did…but it still doesn’t change anything, right now all she feels is the coldness surrounding her.

“Got any plans”

A gruff but soothing and kind voice asks, Rouge slowly turns around to see the Echidna looking at her with…worry? Surely that can’t be right, the same Echidna who crashed the shuttle the heroes used to get here…

“Y-yeah, I think I’m going to give up this line of work, too much work for too little pay, plus-“

She looks at Knuckles’ reflection in the window

“I’ve got something better than jewels in mind…”

She says with a crack in her voice, she hopes that the Echidna didn’t pick up on it, that’s he’s as dimwitted as everyone thinks he is but obviously he catches on…

“Hey…are you okay?”

“Y-yeah…I’m just looking down below. It’s beautiful, don’t you think?”

She says, desperately trying to steer the conversation away from current events.

Knuckles looks down at earth and grunts…

“It was…but after today…I can’t look at anything the same way again”

He pulls out the master emerald which has shrunken down.

“Heh, Tikal helped me learn to do this, makes it much more easier to carry around, want to hold it? I know you love jewels…”

Rouge looks at him wide eyed…why had he offered to let her hold the master emerald? Surely he’d know she could easily run off with it, Knuckles opens up her hand with his own and gives it to her, letting her hold it.

“I-I think it might make you feel at least a little bit better…”

That’s when it clicks in her head…he’s trying to comfort her, in his own little odd way, he’s trying to comfort her, make her feel better, sadly at the realisation of this, here eyes begin to water up, her vision getting blurry and the facade breaks, she slowly begins to let the tears fall from her eyes…

She drops the master emerald on the floor and cries into knuckles’ shoulder, hugging him as hard as she can, expecting him to push her away or shout at her that she dropped the master emerald but…that’s not what happens, he holds her tightly and tells her.

“Don’t worry…It’s alright to cry, he was your friend”

And finally the scene between sonic and Amy would place but slightly altered.

Here it is…

Planet Earth, such a beautiful and disturbing place, after this day, after what he’s heard and seen happen, he can’t look at it the same way again, what anyone can be capable off if they are pushed enough to the edge…

Sonic looks ahead at Earth, the stars and and feels…guilty…he was there, he saw Shadow fall however he lied to everyone…

After the final chaos control on the Space Colony Ark which retuned it to its normal position in space, no longer heading towards earth, Super Sonic looked around and saw two Rings floating, he picked them up and flew over to where he saw shadow, no longer in his Super form, very slowly moving away from the ark and towards earth.

Suoer Sonic quickly flew over to shadow however what happened…was heartbreaking.

Sonic would’ve been able to catch the ultimate Lifeform, in fact he should’ve but Shadow…Shadow pushed him away, he said that he doesn’t deserve to live after what he’s done, he broke Maria’s promise, hurt so many people and almost killed everyone. Sonic told him that he deserves a second chance to make them happy but Shadow smiled…

“Sonic…it’s funny you know, I think in another time, we could’ve been friends, maybe if things turned out differently we would be…but we’re both running out of energy, my super form has already run out and yours… it’s going to run out anytime now. So this is my final gift to you…goodbye, Sonic The Hedgehog.”

“SHADOW! NO!”

Shadow ended up using his remaining energy to use chaos control on sonic to teleport him back to the Ark, which right after it happened, Sonic’s Super form ran out…

“The Ultimate Life form…Shadow The Hedgehog”

Just as he goes to walk away he sees Amy walk over into the observation deck, her eyes are puffed from crying but he can tell she’s trying to be strong, he smiles and walks over to her.

“I’m…Im so sorry Amy…I don’t know how close you got with Shadow, but I couldn’t save him… I appreciate you easing off on the romance but I shouldn’t have just ignored you when you needed my help…”

“I forgive you”

Amy replies with a smile, a sad smile but a smile nonetheless.

“People make mistakes, we’ve seen that today…but we also know that we can change for the better…so here’s to a better tomorrow Sonic.”

Amy extends her arm for a handshake with Sonic smiles and accepts.

“Here’s to a better tomorrow”

However he looks down at her wrist and sees something…new.

“Hey…are those?

Amy looks at her wrist and let’s put another smile, but this time it’s not a sad one…

“Yeah…these were his, I asked Rouge if I could have them, she said yes. Even when Eggman saw me wear them I could’ve sworn I saw a genuine smile from him. I think they look great but I also want to remember him like I remember you.

As a hero, someone I admire and want to be like.”

Sonic closes his eyes smiles.

“Me and you both Amy…me and you both”

Amy asks if he’s ready to leave and sonic Smiles.

“Yeah, let’s go back to the planet as cool and blue as me…”

They leave the room and the lights turn off but sonic looks back one last time.

“Sayonara…Shadow The Hedgehog”

Submission #74: Yet another Shadamy Scene Rewrite

I think it’s my best Shadamy piece I’ve done, it’s a very simple SA2 (can you tell it’s my favourite sonic story/game yet?)scene rewrite based on shadow and Amy’s first encounter on prison island.

Though I kinda wish I called the title of my first submission “yet a take on Shadamy” to fit in line with my “yet _____ Shadamy _____”

I wanted those final scenes to pull at the heart strings, sure it’s possibly too emotional for a Sonic story but I really don’t care, all of those scenes were based on experiences in my life so I tried to write the characters as “realistic” as I possibly could. I even snuck in some Knuxouge because I think it’s the only sonic ship that should be canon in the games, it makes the most sense to me. I also really hope I didn’t come off as bashing Sonic, that really wasn’t my intention, I really like Sonic as a character but I think this was the most realistic character development I could’ve given him. Rouge was definitely more emotional here but I think that makes sense, I didn’t even think of knuckles consoling her until a bit after so I promise it wasn’t just for a knuxouge moment. I couldn’t really do much with Tails, best I could do is have him sympathise with Eggman and referring to him as “Ivo Robotnik” was my was of showing that tails truly cared about Eggman in that moment. Also Sonic hugging Eggman might be slightly out of character but everyone is at their emotional limit here, including Eggman himself was hurt here, he found out the man he admired, his grandfather didn’t just not care about him but was willing to kill him, if felt personal to him and sonic saw that…

What I tried to do was not to create a Shadamy story (even though it certainly comes across as such because even though I love Shadamy, I don’t want any relationships in any main sonic games, hint at them sure but not proper relationships). Instead I tried to create a story with the basis of Sonic adventure 2 (my favourite sonic story) and improve certain aspects.

It just so happened that in my eyes, giving Amy a proper role would do exactly that and filling in details such as making it even more believable that Shadow would turn good at the end, giving a proper character arc to Amy and improving on Rouge’s and giving Sonic a character Arc with both realising that people can change for the better because knuckles wasn’t evil in 3&K, he was tricked. Sonic would also learn to take Amy more seriously.

Side note but I’ve always head people say that sonic has always been a flat character however I disagree, I think that became the case after SA2 because in that game, he learned that not everyone is purely good or bad, he learned that people will do bad things for good reasons and good things for bad reasons.

Another detail this adds is making it way more believable for Sonic to go back to Eggman when he takes Amy hostage because in SA2, sonic and tails just leave amy wondering around, both creating a liability and ignoring their friend however up to this point (in the hero story), Sonic, Tails and eventually Knuckles thought Amy had died on Prison Island but hearing her alive and being taken hostage would make it a good twist from a story standpoint along with making it WAY more believable that Sonic would rush back to Eggman. (even though tails was there).

Of course I had to add a scene between sonic and shadow, making it make more sense as to why shadow fell to earth and sonic couldn’t save him, I wanted to add shadow saying that they could’ve been friends in another time because that WAS true at one point, in heroes and 06 they respected each other and were friends with a slightly rivalry. In shadow the hedgehog, minus all the “evil” paths (which I don’t seem as canon) shadow and sonic are usually on good terms. Only in Boom is where there was an active distaste between the two.

Anyway that’s enough of me rambling. I originally wasn’t going to write some scenes and just skim through them like I have done with others but the ones near the end were too important for me to just simply skip. I’ve been writing this for about close to 3 hours now on my phone and I still have a few things to say but I’m satisfied with what I’ve written for now.

I’m going to be honest but this is the most emotional piece of work I’ve ever written, (coming from a guy who doesn’t think these characters beyond a few should be all “lovey-dovey” but speak through their actions and what they’re willing so do to make friend/partner happy) like I did with knuckles here.

Anyway I’m not going to link my AO3 here because my work isn’t nearly as emotional, it doesn’t have much shadamy and I also don’t wanna self promote here as well but if I write a SA2 rewrite with this concept, if I’m allowed to link it I will however it won’t be for a while as uni is killing me.

Back during the early years of Sonic, it seems that Europe and to a lesser extent Japan used Amy in a regular capacity, whereas at the US Amy was pretty much ignored in favour of Sally Acorn (even going so far as to pretend that Sally was in Sonic CD). How do you think the landscape would be different if Amy were a regular character back during the early days, such as being a main character in the cartoons and US comics?

Would it necessarily be that different? If America used the names “Princess Sally” interchangeably with Amy Rose, in theory wouldn’t that mean we’d still just get Princess Sally but she’d be a pink hedgehog? Or maybe not even a pink hedgehog, really. Considering how much different Eggman is to Robotnik, there’s no telling how they’d change Amy Rose’s appearance if they were somehow forced to use her.

Princess Sally was chosen presumably because they didn’t want someone too frilly or feminine, without necessarily abandoning those ideals entirely.

Consider the concept art, when she was originally “Princess Acorn”:

She has a long pony tail, blonde hair, big lips, a skirt, and enough of a chest to have cleavage. Somewhere along the line somebody said that’s not the look they were going for, so they settled on something a little more neutral:

A vest, pixie hair cut, and boots. Clearly less femme, but not exactly butch, either. An independent looking girl who would be out there fighting for freedom.

I can’t help but feel like Classic Amy Rose would be seen as too bright and frilly for the role they were looking for. She has a very distinct “1980′s” look about her, like back when Disney was trying to modernize Mickey and Minnie Mouse by having them wear blazers and real tennis shoes.

She’d probably end up with the same treatment as Fleetway Amy in that regard, where they toughened up her image by changing her in to slightly more muted clothing and giving her a gun.

Changes from there would probably be too dramatic to even speculate about. That’s some real deep butterfly effect kind of business, you know? Even if the changes were small, they’d stack up and feel bigger all the time. Maybe the cartoon we got in 1993 wouldn’t be super different, but it would reflect very differently on the Archie Comics, and may even influence future games, given they’d probably have to reconcile that. There’s honestly too much to unpack and reconcile. It would be like trying to accurately guess what the weather would be like in ten years.

Sonic Lore

For a while, I wanted to see if I could sum up the lore of the mainline Sonic the Hedgehog games starting from Sonic Adventure, since that’s where game critics tend to say the plot gets much more complicated than previous titles. While I’m not the arbiter of what’s complicated and what’s not, I did notice that most of the lore they’re probably referring to takes place over the course of a relative few games. Afterwards, the series kind of abandoned a lot of its worldbuilding. What’s interesting to note is that even before Sonic Adventure, the Sonic series did have fairly extensive lore, but translators took most of it out in favor of appealing to Western markets. The basic stuff that got left in is:

Sonic the Hedgehog - He’s fast and saves people from Dr. Robotnik. Is a cool guy.

Dr. Robotnik - Evil Scientist who likes stuffing animals into robots to power them.

Miles “Tails” Prower - A two-tailed fox who looks up to Sonic. He’s resourceful and Sonic lets him fly his airplane, the Tornado.

Amy Rose - A plucky hedgehog whose tarot cards predicted that she’d meet her hero, Sonic.

Knuckles the Echidna - Last of his kind and guardian of the Master Emerald. Dr. Robotnik tricked him into thinking Sonic was after the emerald when in reality that was Robotnik’s plan. He eventually helps Sonic stop him.

Chaos Emeralds - 7 emeralds that when used together, wield a lot of power. This leads to them getting stolen a lot. Sonic can use them to transform into Super Sonic.

Master Emerald - Big emerald that has power over the Chaos Emeralds. It also keeps Knuckles home, Angel Island afloat in the air.

I was asked by @swiftly-heart to answer ALL the OC Asks. You’re the worst Em. I was asked to answer these with my OC Gabby. She was created for X Men Evolution back when I was in high school, but now I’m working on her MCU version. So this will be for MCU Gabby.

1. What is/are your OC’s nickname(s) and how did it come about?

Probably Gab. I’m pretty sure I had her full name as Gabriella and her nickname is Gabby, but I don’t remember because I created her like 10 years ago and never developed her.

2. What is the color of your OC’s eyes/hair/skin?

I don’t even remember anything about this girl’s appearance dear God. I think she’s pale, blue or green eyes. Blonde, but I could make her have darker hair or red hair. I don’t remember anything about her. I THINK I had Jennifer Lawrence as a faceclaim back in ye olden days, but I don’t see her as Gabby now. Honestly I could change Gabby’s whole appearance from when I made her.

3. How tall is your OC?

Heck if I know! I might just make her short so she can be an angry shortie yelling at Pietro and the little shit will just grin down at her.

4. What is a noticeable physical attribute of your OC?

5. What does your OC normally wear? What would your OC wear on a special night?

Basic high school or college girl outfits (idk how old she is depending on how old Pietro and Wanda are). Most likely she’s a college girl so she’s probably too lazy to try or too tired and wear anything too special. Like baggy tee and shorts. Cold day she’s in sweatpants or jeans (depending if it’s finals or not) and a sweater or sweatshirt. If she tries to put in effort for class she’ll wear jeans and a nice top. She’ll definitely do her makeup, but minimal for hair. Special night she’d definitely go all out with friends and wear something cute.

6. What is one word you would use to describe your OC’s appearances?

Screaming

7. Does your OC have any markings, such as a birthmark or a scar?

Not that I know of (yet).

8. How does your OC talk/what does your OC’s voice sound like?

Your guess is as good as mine. Average? I am not the best at describing voices at all.

9. What does your OC’s bedroom look like? His/her living area?

So mix that with chorus and them activating randomly you get scared and confused Gabby and everyone just staring at her.

Probably not that vivid. I can see her as someone more realistic than a day dreamer which I think would be kinda fun with Pietro’s flirty and fun/goofy personality in the MCU.

None other than moving out for college. She loves her campus and loves the student union.

She doesn’t mind them. She likes playing with her little cousins when she sees them, but I don’t think she’s ever really thought hard about whether or not she wants kids. She could always change her mind with the right person.

Probably the stricter of the two. I don’t think she’d be like a helicopter parent or like you can’t do x y and z but she’d definitely be a little stricter than the partner. Especially if it’s Pietro. He’d be the fun one of the two.

Maybe Aunt or Uncle? Maybe they could be a professor or dean at her school. Dunno. Haven’t thought about it.

Oh now I’m wondering if I should make Kitty Pryde or someone else from X Men a college student at her school/her roommate/friend. That would be kinda a cool hint at X Men in the MCU if I wrote Gabby’s story.

People she trusts. I don’t see her being super open about who she is with just anyone.

Don’t really know. Probably Pietro at the start. He’s a little shit who won’t leave her alone.

Despite how annoying he can be, Pietro does care and will show his caring side when its important. We’ve seen it with him and Wanda. Gabby likes how he’ll just drop anything for the ones he loves and make sure they’re ok.

I was talking about this with @swiftly-heart about how MCU Gabby would meet Pietro and I thought maybe some Hydra scientist on her campus starts shit up and the Avengers show up or as Em likes to call it The Avengers battle zone of the month. She’s trying to run away and stuff and gets caught up and Pietro zips in and carries her away. Or like she uses her scream to help someone and Pietro is stunned by the fact she can do that and then saves her as she’s about to get hit or something not knowing she is about to get hurt.

Stress eats or cleans. Depending on the situation. During finals you’ll see her munching on something while studying and she doesn’t even realize she’s eaten a whole bag of chips until her hand is grabbing air.

Takes deep breathes or walks away from the situation so she doesn’t get angrier. Does her best not to scream because she’s learned in the past that even when she screams into a pillow it doesn’t end well. She’s gone through three pillows in one month before.

This week, a record made and released by close collaborators Eerie, Indiana and Heart on a Chain received a re-release with a deluxe edition to celebrate its 20th birthday

Though the front cover of Marshall’s Theory of Believably, the joint album by bands Eerie, Indiana and Heart on a Chain names only those two bands, the project was a collaboration between all the members of the Indiana seven. The Indiana Seven were a close group of collaborators who had a close working relationship in the 90s, creating iconic tracks and albums. The cover, which depicts a lone man in a ghost costume was shot by Sara Sue, an artist/photographer who shot most of the Eerie, Indiana’s album covers, and a track labeled ‘we gave this track to Tod’ features the enigmatic artist known as Tod, who also helped on the band’s delayed record Broken Record. The album art is different from the works of both bands, with Eerie, Indiana frequently having a sort of DIY feel to their photoshoots and Heart on a Chain tending to the more abstract kind. These particular photos (remastered for the deluxe edition) depict various band members in the dessert wearing a sheet over their heads with large black eye holes. The cover is Holmes, peering from behind a large unlit bonfire at the viewer. The title is written in the handwriting of Janet Donner, who also features as the figure on the CD itself. Teller features on the back of the album, and the back page of the liner notes, waving goodbye. Inside the liner, there are images of X, with Monroe being absent, apparently due to having a broken leg at the time of the shoot following an incident at a waterpark.

The album features twelve tracks, with many of them focusing on the idea of cryptids and other mysterious entities to make up the metaphors of the song. On the idea for the Album, Donner said: We wanted to talk about love as we knew it. This broad, mysterious concept that so many people in their twenties make love out to be.” On what she thinks of love now, Donner then remarked: Love is being glad the world hasn’t ended yet. I’ll leave you to make of that what you will. On the album, both X and Teller have cited the other as an inspiration behind the tracks, which will not come as a surprise to anyone who frequently listens to Eerie, Indiana as the pairs sometimes tumultuous relationship is often at the center of the most controversial and interesting projects done by the band. But this album is, more than anything else, a happy one.

The first single released from this album was the track ‘Sometimes I Almost Miss You’ in the one-two punch style of Eerie, Indiana the track is titled like a break-up but is a love song. Over an energetic guitar track and drum machine, Monroe sings about the heart transplant she’d had some years before and how she believes that she can still feel the donor even though he’s (according to the lyrics) long gone and sweetly resting. The track is careful to avoid any religious implications, instead suggesting that the donor (who has since been identified as Devon Wilde) instead rests inside her chest. With X on the guitar and Holmes on the drum machine and (of all things) the triangle, Teller is free to singe verses from the perspective of the heart donor, viewing the world from inside Monroe’s chest while Donner provides very beautiful backing harmonies. The overall mood of the track is one of quiet love and happiness, as well as gratefulness to the young boy who gave her the second chance. Those familiar with the work of Heart on a Chain know that the transplant features heavily in their songs and it’s no surprise to see it here.

The second track released in the work was ‘Me and My Jackalope’ and fueled rumors about a relationship between Teller and his bandmate, Dash X. At the time, both were closeted at the request of the label to avoid scandal. “Being in the closest literally almost killed me.” Teller would reflect later, interviewing for a project he did, releasing tracks for an LGBT themed album in the 2000s.”The funny thing is, I don’t think anyone who listened to us gave a damn. We’d go on stage, and we used to stand so close our knuckles were almost touching getting up in each other’s face and people would just go crazy.” Me and My Jackalope is, as you may have guessed, a song about impossible love. A love that the singer, in this case, mostly Teller, keeps hidden under his bed, only bringing it out to play when he’s alone. It’s a slow, sad track with Teller crooning to his animal “If they saw you, then they’d send you away.” Both Holmes and Monroe are credited as writers on the track, with the usual Eerie, Indiana flavor of complicated guitar playing set aside in favor of Donner and a violin and Holmes playing an assortment of other instruments.

The third and final promotional single was meant to be Skylines, which lyrics from are also featured on the inside booklet of the album however at the last minute it was swapped out to the Meatloaf cover in the center of the album, Midnight at the Lost and Found due to ‘label meddling’ after it was decided they needed another upbeat track after Me and my Jackalope. The track is nothing special, a seemingly typical Eerie, Indiana cover. Eerie, Indiana frequently covered Meatloaf and Jim Stienman tracks, hoping to work with one or the other someday. Sadly, this collaboration never came to be. But it’s a fun song, much like the original version from the 1983 album by Meatloaf. Somewhat of a deep cut by today’s standards, but it’s fun. Which I think was probably the mission statement of this album if Dash X is to be believed (Yes, that’s his stage name, no I do not know his real name). ‘We were a bunch of 20 something friends given a studio and a year or two to do whatever we wanted. So we did whatever we wanted, which was being weird.’

Skylines and it’s reprise is a group effort, with every member of the group joining in with the writing process to produce something that could have gone astray but managed to come together into something coherent. Skylines covers the re-treaded ground of many bands, it’s a song set about missing people while on tour. Set against New York’s bright, iconic skyline the track is mostly led by Donner as she wonders what her lover is doing right now. Her lover, played by Teller wonders about if his lover will stay in New York, swept up by the bright skylines, and pleading for them to simply be theirs. The track has backing vocals from all of the members involved, including Holmes who mostly shies away from singing parts. ‘It’s not that I don’t love to sing.” He explains, “I’m just not very good at it. Marshall was always the singer, I’m much happier playing the drums, or a cello or something.”

The final track on the album, clocking in at nine minutes, is Cryptids (I Still Believe in You and Me). This track shows off the impressive guitar skills of Teller and X, this time paired with the violin playing from Donner who shows she can keep up with the boys by playing speedy, intense sections with precision. This Dash X penned track also has extensive work by Holmes on the drums and a solo from a very jazz saxophone in the third act. Ultimately, the song doesn’t quite come together, feeling disjointed and a little over-complicated. But...Maybe that’s how it’s meant to feel. Dash was never brought into Eerie, Indiana as a writer, he was brought on to foil with Marshall on stage and because he was the only person the label could find that could play the punishingly difficult riffs Teller produces. On his Instagram speaking about pride X has suggested that a lot of his music was changed during production because it was too overtly about men, while Donner and Teller both proficiently changed pronouns in there songs, or stuck to calling their love interests you.

The album has three tracks that feel like filler, the intermission track which is not unusual on the cinematic, large scale Eerie, Indiana albums, a seemingly ‘story’ track called ‘Lost in Time’ which is a piece of Holmes poetry performed by Donner and an odd little track called ‘We Gave This One To Tod’ While the enigmatic Tod was often credited on Eerie, Indiana albums and opened for them at live shows he never quite reached the level of recognition his peers did. However, seeing the bizarre and experimental nature of his work, and his goth and punk leanings I think it’s safe to assume he was happier underground than his friends were blinded by the lights of showbiz. This piece features heavy synths and a drum machine. It doesn’t hit for me, but perhaps for a fan of Tod, it could be a holy grail.

On this version of the album, known as the deluxe edition, we’re given three additional tracks. A demo version of Elvis and the Mothman, which is lyrically the same slowed all the way down with the shouting chorus replaced with a mouth against the mic crooner style. The released, upbeat anthem style track is a far better fit for the album. Baba Yaga in Heels is a Heart on a Chain only track, perhaps why it was discarded. It features a techno style dance beat, with the lyrics being about a night out with Baba Yaga, a Banshee, and a harpy. Ultimately, the lyrics are not that impactful but they don’t need to be. The final listed track is a cover of Meatloaf’s Bat out of Hell, which lyrically and sonically is almost identical to the original.

Overall, what Marshall’s theory of Believability tries to do is ambitious. It’s an album between two experiential groups of friends trying to make something that they enjoy. But it’s not the best work of either group, which is a shame because it could have been something very special if they were given a little more time to work out some of the kinks and if they pruned some of the tracks that are superfluous to the story of the album. I’m happy to have a copy in my collection, but honestly, I’d rather listen to something the group produced independently anyway.

While we still have three issues left featuring stories written by Karl Bollers, we’ve pretty much come to the end of his run as lead writer on Archie Sonic. As I’ve said many times, his work certainly had flaws, and there were stories of his that bored me. (I definitely could’ve done with less stories where Sally’s parents prevent her from joining the action.) But there were also many I quite enjoyed, and on average I’d say his stories were usually pretty okay. He definitely went out on a high note with Return to Angel Island, though. That’s for sure

In this post, I’d like to look over the list of scrapped story ideas listed on Bollers’ wiki page, and give some thoughts. Had he continued writing Sonic, this is what he would have done

Sonic and Amy becoming a couple after being stranded at sea together and keeping it a secret from Princess Sally.

Ehh... I’d have to see how this really played out. Sega was pushing SonAmy super hard at the time with Sonic X, though, and the Archie comics had barely even acknowledged Amy’s crush on Sonic, so I guess something like this had to happen eventually. I’m also sure it wouldn’t have lasted long, since it was obvious Bollers would have Sonic and Sally reconcile eventually

Tails reuniting with his parents by traveling into space on a modified Tornado.

This would’ve been pretty neat, honestly! I’d just hope that Tails wouldn’t stay out in space for too long

Amy's origins being explored in a fuller adaptation of Sonic CD.

Very cool! Definitely would’ve liked to see this. But Ian ended up doing more with Amy and incorporating the stories of the Genesis era games into the comics later on, so I guess we didn’t really lose much by not getting this story from Bollers

Knuckles departing Angel Island after learning that his presence exposes the location of the Master Emerald, going on a global pilgrimage to learn martial arts, and battling a Dr. Eggman controlled-Monkey Khan while under the control of the Iron Queen before discovering the Master Geode.

Now THIS sounds cool. While I’m not exactly a fan of Monkey Khan, I think sending Knuckles off on a big adventure and having him learn more fighting skills would be a great use of his character. Way better than having him sit around on Angel Island all day, that’s for sure. And after how great Return to Angel Island was, I would’ve loved to see more Knuckles stories from Bollers

Mammoth Mogul beginning to age rapidly due to his original Chaos Emerald running out of energy, forcing him to seek out alternative sources through illicit archaeological expeditions and hiring mercenaries like Nack the Weasel. The Master Geode, a powerful gemstone that would fulfill Mogul's needs, would be contested by him, the Iron Queen, Robotnik, and Rouge the Bat.

Also pretty cool. I’m assuming this is all part of the same overarching story as Knuckles’ martial arts training. It’d be fun to see this combination of new and old game characters as well as old Archie characters vying for power. I also love that all these forces would be vying for control of this powerful gem, but then Rouge is also there because... she just wants it. All of these characters would have their time to shine in Ian’s run, though

Sally being a pawn in a villainous plot by the corrupted Source of All and Ixis Naugus to prevent the future first previewed in Sonic In Your Face.

Antoine gaining his scar due to an accident with a knife and becoming a villain after allowing himself to be possessed by a corrupted Source of All in hopes of winning Bunnie back.

The Source of All surviving Robotropolis' destruction and reconstituting itself in a remote mountain range, beginning to exert control over King Max, brainwashing the Arachne and another group of Spiders known as the Strand, and possessing Antoine while under the control of Ixis Naugus.

We’ve already talked about this canceled subplot before, but oh man, I would’ve loved this. I always hated the concept of the Source of All, and the idea that Max’s actions were all justified by some sort of omniscient future vision. The Acorn family rituals surrounding the Source were also already extremely creepy, so turning their bonding with the Source into a bad thing would’ve been an incredibly easy pill to swallow

Bunnie and Antoine breaking up due to a change in Antoine's personality, with Bunnie's origins later being explored and her true name being revealed as Scarlette O'Hare

I mean, Bunnie’s last name being Rabbot (pronounced Rab-OH) was always silly, but I don’t know if we really needed this. Y’all know I’m down for more Bunnie, though

Rotor retiring from field duty in order to pursue a role analogous to that played by "Q" of James Bond fame.

They’d already been leaving him out of missions for years. I guess this makes sense, and at least turning him into the guy who makes the gadgets for everyone would give him a more clearly defined role

Locke and Lara-Le putting aside their previous disputes to help raise Knecapeon "Kneecaps" Mace after his father Wynmacher ends up in the Egg Grape Chamber.

I’ve talked about all this a bit before. Really not sure what to think of it. My gut instinct is that I don’t like the idea of Locke reuniting with Lara-Le at all. He hasn’t earned her forgiveness. But I’d have to see how Bollers wrote it, I guess

Robotnik kidnapping Hope Kintobor under the pretense that he is the only correct choice to be her legal guardian, while genuinely using her as bait to lure in Shadow the Hedgehog.

Not sure how I feel about Hope getting kidnapped, but the mental image of literal tyrant Dr. Eggman going to child protective services and pretending he’d be a good guardian for Hope as part of a scheme to get Shadow is really funny to me

Ixis Naugus attempting to return by transforming Max's body into a duplicate of his own, only to be thwarted by the destruction of the Crown of Acorns

I would’ve liked to see Naugus explored more, but hey! Ian sure used him a lot. So this is another case where we aren’t missing out on much

Nate Morgan surviving the destruction of Robotropolis, being De-Roboticized by the Bem, and returning as Coconuts' amnesia-addled ally, who creates a new Metal Sonic, Metal Amy, Metal Knuckles, and Tails Doll that are mistaken for Robian versions of the heroes.

This would’ve been a REALLY interesting development. Bollers was very open about how he hated the direction Nate Morgan had gone in and had some interesting plans to bring him back. And, well, this is it. Kind of reminds me of a certain subplot with Eggman in the IDW comics, except in reverse

I also love how this would’ve brought in Metal Knuckles, Tails Doll, and a new Metal Amy. Bollers really seemed to be enjoy bringing in elements from the older games in his later years at Archie, with much of the action in Return to Angel Island taking place in actual zones from S3&K. Getting Coconuts involved is also wild. This would’ve been a really fun story

Snively taking up a fifteen foot-tall mechanical battlesuit and the alias "Skarkus" in pursuit of revenge against Robotnik for leaving him alone against the Xorda, leading to an alliance between him and Shadow.

Yeah, this one sure is. Something. Honestly I have no idea how it would turn out. It’d be all about the execution

A.D.A.M. and NICOLE becoming romantically involved, leading to A.D.A.M. seizing control of the Shadowbot army and leading them from New Megaopolis to Knothole.

Okay I hate this one lol. But to be fair, I mostly hate it because the other writers ended up taking Nicole in a completely different direction and giving her her lynx form (and eventually pairing her with Sally). Bollers had no way of knowing that Nicole would become such a central character, so I can’t really blame him for having an idea like this, I guess

A new Dingo Regime leader named Colonel Mange being introduced, with Croctobot, Jack Rabbit, and Gala-Na being reintroduced as Robotnik Sub-Bosses over Downunda, the Great Desert, and Albion. This would have led to the disappearance of the Downunda Freedom Fighters and a confrontation involving the Mercian Freedom Fighters.

Ah, the beginnings of Eggman having Mobian sub-bosses working for him. I guess Kage in Return to Angel Island was really the start of this, but still. Gala-Na becoming a subordinate of Eggman actually makes a lot of sense to me. She was already an antagonist in the Chaos Knuckles arc, and it’s painfully obvious that the Albion echidnas are selfish pricks who only look out for themselves. If she thought that siding with Eggman would protect Albion, I totally think she’d sell out

Anti-Sonic coming to enjoy impersonating Sonic and enjoying the love of his parents and adulation of his people, leading him to plan to eliminate Sonic and permanently take his place.

This one’s also kinda interesting I suppose, although we definitely got no shortage of Anti-Sonic impersonating Sonic in the last year of Penders stories. Can’t say I’m dying to see this story told

So, all in all, definitely some interesting ideas! If there’s two major throughlines I see in this plans, it’s 1) bringing back forgotten elements from both the games and earlier comics and 2) reinventing Penders characters and concepts. Which makes a lot of sense, because that’s exactly what he was doing with Return to Angel Island

Part of me is sad that these stories were never told. The Source of All being evil and Knuckles’ martial arts training stand out to me in particular. But there are other ideas that are pretty similar to things Ian would do in his run, like Eggman having Mobian sub-bosses or Naugus coming back, so it’s hard to feel too sad. It’s also hard to know how good the execution would’ve been on these pitches

Of course, if there’s one thing I’m certain of, it’s that these stories probably would’ve been better than the ones we actually got from Penders and Chacon over the next year and a half

I have given it a lot of thought and I think that for Ace Attorney 7… whenever that comes out, Capcom may want to shake up the formula a bit. Special thanks to @beevean for bouncing off ideas for this.

I love the Ace Attorney series, but over the past year, I’ve been playing through the first five games and while I think their stories and characters are incredible, the gameplay does fall into a repetitive loop. So, what if they really altered how the game worked. What if the game and story was entirely influenced by the player’s decisions. For example, during investigation sections of the game, if you haven’t found the correct evidence on your own, you will not have it for the trial the next day and it could lead to branching story paths.

The game would have 4 different endings: Best, Good, Middle, and Bad. Imagine you are unable to get the “Not Guilty” verdict in the first case, but you’d continue to the second case! If you decided to play as Athena during the first case and failed then you would have to play as Phoenix during the next trial. Apollo would definitely be in the game, but considering where he left off in AA6, he would definitely be a dramatic reveal for later in the game.

You could also influence the trial by making specific choices like selecting what witnesses speak about and even deciding who comes up to the witness stand. However, who you choose could greatly affect how the trial goes. It’s up to you, the player, to be sure the trial stays on the right track to prove your client innocent. Performing well in cases is based on the final verdict, the evidence gathered, penalties accrued and witnesses called.

I could compare it to the similar stage structure from Shadow the Hedgehog (2005). This game would only have 3 cases as opposed to the usual 4. However, depending on how you did on the first two cases will determine if you go to Case 3A or Case 3B. 3A will you grant you the chance to see the Best or Good endings. 3B would only allow you access to the Middle and Bad endings. They would be two totally different cases, so you will still get a total number of 4 cases that is typical for the series.

Performing poorly could even affect the music. Much like the Good and Bad timelines of Sonic CD. The worse you do, the less confidence the defense attorney will have. Therefore, you’ll get a more somber version of the objection theme. The way the characters say “Objection!” or “Hold it!” would also become less confident. It would really drive home the sense that things are failing.

Of course, the game would need a new prosecutor and that’s where Maxine Air comes in. She’s a punk rock, skateboarding prodigy who took an interest in law after taking a bad fall during a skateboarding competition. The tournament is shrouded in mystery, but Maxine’s father was murdered in the VIP Lounge right when she failed her trick. She’d be extreme, but definitely kinder towards the defense attorneys. Closer to Klavier than Blackquill. She could even know Klavier and might be a close friend.

Maxine: I can shred a half pipe, but I can also shred the defense’s argument in half!

Phoenix: Do you really need the skateboard here in the courtroom?

Maxine: Any defense stand is a rail to grind and any case is a deck waiting to be kick flipped!

Phoenix (internal): I couldn’t even Ollie… let alone kickflip.

Maxine: I know what you’re thinking, Spiky Dude! You gotta learn to Ollie before you can Indy into a McTwist! That’s what the manual writes across the pavement of life.

Phoenix: …you lost me at Indy…

This would definitely be a bold new direction for the series and to be perfectly honest… I am not sure it would entirely work. However, I do think it would provide for something that the entire Ace Attorney series suffers from… a lack of substantial replay. Since these are story-driven games, they lose a lot of their enjoyment upon being completed. Having this system that I proposed could work well to fix that issue. It’s just an idea and I’ll be happy with any Ace Attorney sequel Capcom might cook up. In the end, I’ll keep daydreaming about

Prompt:

A jingle and a click, then there was music sounding through Classic Amy’s headphones.

She nodded her head, enjoying the classic rock that kept her heart upbeat as she stretched, getting ready to run.

She had been training for so long. All she wanted was to manage that loop-de-loop so she could keep up with Sonic.

One time, while pursuing her darling Sonic, he had raced through one. She saw him curl up and bolt off like a slingshot in a pinball game.

Her heart sank as she stopped rushing after him and skidded her feet against the moist and furtile ground of the earth, the grass bending to her force.

“Oh… Dear.” her face slowly recoiled in its joy as she faced the terrifying obstacle.

A full loop. No stops, just a drop if you slowed down…

A death fall.

The last time she had been through a loop-de-loop, she was being hauled off by a metal version of Sonic.

She took courage, stepping back with powerful stomps to work herself up to it. With a wiggle of her butt and straight up to her tail, she charged at it.

Needless to say, she flopped and her poor face was red with the trauma.

She didn’t even get to the curve…

So today, she was going to face up to her fear and overcome that death loop!

Her nostrils flared with bravery once again, her body honed for speed and balance, there was no way she would skid her face against its slick dirt coating this time!

Unbeknown to our little heroine, a certain Sonic The Hedgehog was sitting happily in the shadows of a few camouflaging trees. He had been passing by when he saw her in her workout clothes, her classy sweatband replacing her girly clothes that were now jazzy kinda workout colors and designs.

Immediately, he popped his popcorn–so to speak–, and set up camp.

He had heard the horrible PLOP from behind when she had first attempted the loop-de-loop. He had stopped in curiosity and flicked an ear back, racing over a ramp he had previously scaled to see what had happened.

It was a conflicting moment. He wanted to rush over and make sure she was okay, but he also didn’t want her seeing him laughing.

She had the saddest look on her face, and his snickering ended as he waited for her to call out to him in help.

Except she didn’t.

She surprised him by remaining silent, wiping her eyes and the bright dirt from her face, kissing her own booboos and glaring at the obstacle that had previously blocked her from following him the rest of the way.

He had stared almost mesmerized by the way she held her own. Where was the doting cry of help? The wimpy, whining high pitch voice? Was she really not going to cry out for him to coo and comfort her?

It’s not like he wanted too, but… he was prepared to do it, that’s all.

Now he felt a little confused, and seeing her prepare to take it on again today, he decided to watch from a distance and just ‘spot’ her, if she did end up getting hurt.

He flopped his hand and poured another shoveled amount of popcorn into his mouth, swishing it around to mush it up and watched as she took a runner’s stance on the ground.

Arching her butt up, she then took a deep breath and angled her body, looking up with pure determination as she raced up the loop-de-loop.

His eyes followed her, swallowing and reaching for his drink’s straw when his eyes fell flat to the ground again.

Another PLOP.

“Wah!” she cried out, making his eyelids lower a bit as he waited for her to cry out to him.

“Ow… Umph.” she rubbed her head, “…Maybe I gotta get a firmer footfall. Curl up on the ending?” she worked it out in her head, and again, Sonic’s grip on the drink tightened slightly.

She wasn’t aware of him.

Why would she call out for aid?

Why would she ask him for help?

He ‘Pfft’d and continued to flip through music CDs, deciding on a hit and letting it play.

When she tried again and PLOPPED, then he turned the music up louder.

“Offph! Darn, gotta go again… huh?” Her music was drowned out by another’s, and she looked over to excitedly see Sonic bobbing his head to his hard punk rock.

“Oh, Sonic! What are you doing here?” She dusted herself off and then held her hands together, the typical puppy-love he was used too seeing from her.

He put on shades and gave her his best ‘cool dude’s smile.

“Oh? Are you here to… to…” her eyes slightly shrunk in fright. “Watch me?”

He seemed to wave it off, suggesting that he was there to watch her really do it, if she did manage it.

A fear suddenly rose in Amy, and she held herself a moment. “O-oh…” she looked away, ‘Is he really going to sit there and watch me fail?’ she looked back at him, lowering her head.

He continued to bob his head to the music, making Amy think he was agreeing silently to that inner thought.

She puffed up her cheek, “Well, I won’t have it!” she told herself out loud. “That Sonic’ll respect me!” she huffed and turned her backside to him, her quill sticking out and shaking in rage as the rest of her head’s quills followed shortly after in her anger.

“Just watch me then! I’ll do it!” she stretched again, “I’ll make it over no matter what!”

He took off his shades again, hearing her from a distance. He smirked to himself. There was no way Amy Rose wouldn’t ask for her sweet hero’s help.

She’d fall again, this time on her butt, and beg for him to show her how, or just carry her through it.

She’d dote on him, but he’ll just have to live with it.

He sighed and shrugged, as though it was inevitable and he should just take it with patience.

However, as the day went on, Amy kept getting bruised up by all the falling…

Now Sonic was getting concerned.

His toe tapped in the air, his arms folded, and his tolerance going down…

He didn’t want to watch her fail… it wasn’t amusing seeing her hurt and then getting up to do it again.

That was just stupidity… right?

She rubbed her eye, on the verge of tears from that last fall, actually getting about decently high on the first stretch before rolling down it again. She looked behind the loop-de-loop, then moved to see the curve and attempted to curl up.

“…Well, she’s got the right idea.” Sonic didn’t like talking much, especially to others. But something about Amy not giving up… not reaching out for him… made him suddenly jealous of her unrelenting charisma.

She was so naturally likable.

He sunk further in his chair, the music turning to a Song that’s lyrics annoyed him even more.

‘She’s a well-oiled machine! Beauty queen of the world! She don’t need a man, she don’t want your hand, OW! She’s a star~ In her own right! She’s a star~ With just her own light! She’ll shine through the night, leaving you crying! Wishing! On her own beautiful face-! That somehow you could be apart of her space!”

He clicked it off, not liking it anymore.

But Amy turned around, “Hey! I liked that song!” her cute little voice sent a chill up his spine. Why was it cute!? When at all other times, it was usually so shrilly and out of place?

He turned it back on though, mumbling incoherent words as the song picked up again.

“Bright light shining, she’s a five-star, golden lottery. She has the courage to face her demons. She controls the ring, she’s the tiger working through the jungles to face the king! She’s the queen of her own galaxy! She don’t need no help, she’s the best! She’s got the whole world wishing on her-bright-staaarr!”

She did jumping jacks to the music, breathing in and out as she curled up, trying to speed in place but was getting dirt everywhere and wobbling too much in it.

Sonic’s anger mark was throbbing on his head, listening and watching her struggle without so much as giving him any attention at all.

“She’s the best! Don’t require the rest- she’s a star! Star, star-ar-arrr! She’s a well-oiled machine! Beauty Queen of the world! She don’t need a man, she don’t your hand, OW! -click-”

“Hey!” Amy uncurled, looking back to Sonic, “I said I was-!… huh?” she looked to see an empty chair.

“Sonic?” she turned to look around, before seeing he was right beside her on the other side, sizing up the loop-de-loop. “Wah! Oh… you scared me.” She touched her chest, breathing hard as his speedy appearance spooked her. “What’s wrong? Gonna show me how it’s done?”

He nodded.

“Hmph. Took you long enough. Why weren’t you helping me before? I just need some pointers, then I can do it!” She gripped her hands together, eager to learn and get through her latest struggles.

“Ah…” he turned to her, surprised again. She was waiting for… him?

Was he just being that selfish? Thinking he needed her to ask him over when he could have been right here helping her all along?

“I like to take on challenges, but it’s way more fun with a friend!”

There it was.

The cutest thing Sonic had ever seen.

A positive attitude.

He shook his head, smacking his cheek a moment as though to get his thoughts back to where they needed to be.

He was still jealous of her obvious moxie to do it herself, but he was also strangely attrac-… EHEM, impressed by her diligent resolve to get it done herself.

“You need more speed.”

“Well, that’s obvious. Coming from you.” she folded her arms, but he was again taken aback that she didn’t freak out at him talking.

It wasn’t like he socialized a lot… even Tails felt honored to hear his voice.

“Okay, Miss Rose, what else is so obvious?” His trademark attitude was showing again, as he placed the back of his wrist to his hips and leaned toward her. “Go on. If you already know what I’m about to say.”

Now her face shied away a little.

“Hehe…he… b-bu-but how do I do that?” she sweat-dropped, showing she really did want some advice.

He smiled, “That’s a little better.” He looked to the ground, “It just rained, right?”

“Yeah, why?”

“Well, your not getting proper footing so-”

“I KNEW IT!” she shrieked out, “I knew it was my footing!”

He waited, showing her his annoyance by just staring at her with a deadpan expression.

“…Heh…hehe… Teehee?” She knew he was a bit upset at being interrupted again, and with her being such a chatter-box, she acted cute about it and placed a finger to her mouth, looking away.

She was going to be silent now, eh?

“Anyway…” He rolled his eyes, “Try and curl up over by that patch of hill. If you run down it and curl, you should get a good start up. You could still fall a bit coming down, but that’s just because you aren’t as fast as me and Tails. Try and just get yourself to the other side, even if you fall doing so.”

“I’m not afraid to fall.” She said that strongly, standing bravely.

The song triggered in Sonic’s mind but he looked back to her to see her dirtied, banged up body and clothes again.

“…Yeah.” He looked worried, “I know.” he studied her eyes… “Just… Don’t uncurl this time. You’ll get pretty high up there.” He looked to the loop-de-loop.

For one of the first time’s since meeting Amy Rose, Sonic felt genuine concern for her safety.

“If you uncurl… you could get-”

“OFF I GO!”

“H-huh?! Crazy girl! I wasn’t done!” he saw her dart to the hill, and reached out for her. For some reason, this girl made him more animated than usual… “You’re not listening again! It’s dangerous! Just don’t uncurl!”

“I’m a star~ In my own right! I’m a star~”

“Crazy!” he called out to her, seeing her doing a little dance while she sang the previous song and got ready to sprint.

“With just my own light!”

“Stop!” he rushed to her side but she raced down while he moved up. “Don’t-!”

“I’ll shine through the night, leaving you crying! Wishinggggg-!” she curled up, gaining lots of speed.

“..No… No…” He shook his head, his heart beating fast. “Ammmmyyy!!!” It was a true cry of fright. Though he believed it was possible for her to do it, he was terrified she’d really get hurt if she fell that far, that hard, and that fast to the ground this time. He took off, curling up, and heading up the loop-de-loop after her.

She scaled the first roll. ‘On my own beautiful face, that somehow, you could be, apart of my spaaace~’

Time seemed to slow down, two blurry and balled colors flying up the loop-de-loop.

Through the spinning, Amy could feel herself start to fall, and Sonic saw her ball form leaning towards the other side.

‘Will she stay curled?’ his thoughts turned to joy as she hit the other side and rolled down, not breaking her curl.

He uncurled in his joy, reaching his arms out, “You did it!!!” he shouted in praise before smacking his head against the other side of the loop-de-loop. “Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow…” He smacked back and forth all the way down the ramp…

She uncurled safetly down at the bottom, “Yay! I did it!” she cheered as well, turning to see Sonic smack a few more times down before lifting up a ‘thumbs up’ to her.

“Hehe! Now I can catch up with you~” she flirted, poking his face that was buried in the ground. “You know… I thought about uncurling… just to make you catch me.”

He peered up, a slight glare in his eyes.

“But then I heard how loving your voice turned when you thought I didn’t hear you… I didn’t want to upset you, only play around… so I decided to really, truly land the ending. I was scared. I fibbed about not wanting your help… but I’m really glad you were here.”

His glare softened.

“I’ll always want you by my side, Sonic The Hedgehog! And now, I can always be beside yours!”

Under the earth, she didn’t see his kind smile.

He lifted up and shook the dirt off, now his bruises would match hers.

“Rascal.” he winked, playfully.

“Hehe~ Only for you~” she puckered up but he sped off. “Hey! You can’t hide in a loop-de-loop now, Sonic! Teehee~” and sped off after him.

The popcorn was tilted over, and the boombox stayed quietly posted next to the turned over chair…

(Jealous of Amy’s independence? Yes? No? Lol, I just wanted to make something new with the ‘jealousy’ theme XD I do it a lot, you know.)

OKAY SO (this involves retconning also, so in this universe she was ALWAYS CALLED VELOCITY, never called SONIC! But she recognizes that “SONIC” is what she’s usually called in other universes)

(THIS IS REALLY LONG SO IT’S GONNA SPLIT INTO 2 PARTS!!)

I decided to merge some of my BOOM SONIC headcanon with Velocity, because I think she’s way more interesting and engaging this way, especially with how she behaves--Velocity actually wasn’t born a super righteous whatever person--in fact, she was kind of raised by criminals??? Not violent ones by any means, but pick pockets and pranksters and vandals and stuff like that.

She actually was kind of thrust into being a hero totally by accident, and it was cause she stood up to that crazy Dr Eggman when he was taking over her home--this was back when she was just a kid, but she hadn’t really figured out who she was, still using “he/his” pronouns, but for consistency sake I’m gonna use “she/her” throughout.

Turns out that she actually attracted a LOT of attention that way--not just from Dr Eggman wanting her dead, but because that’s how she ended up meeting Tails, down the road... In this verse, she had that plane cause she scavenged it from somebody else, but didn’t really know how to fix it! And that’s when she ran into Tails--but rather than meet him by accident, she actually saved him from some bullies, chased them off by FIGHTIN ‘em. Tails was so impressed, by her speed, by the way she stood up for him, he immediately idolized her.

Vel... really liked that. In fact, she really liked having people look up to her--the validation was unreal!!! She never got this feeling from stealin’ from folks or being a huge jerk... but this was someone who wasn’t mad at her, and wanted to stick around her.

PLUS, Tails was actually so good with machines, he helped fix up her plane, and they started traveling around to different places together. Eventually they met Knuckles, and it was kind of tough? Cause here was this guy being a huge jerk and fighting her at any opportunity, and she really wanted to BEAT HIM UP, SOME STREET LOGIC--but she didn’t want to lead a bad example in front of Tails...... for the first time in her life, she cared about someone other than herself.

Knuckles eventually ended up becoming her BEST friend, with Tails as her little brother... but she wasn’t feeling right. She still felt like she stood out, in a way that made her feel so awkward. She chalked it up to being a criminal turning into a good guy, but it went deeper than that, especially every time she looked at Knuckles. She liked him, and felt... like she couldn’t stand her own skin. And by the events of Sonic CD, she met Amy Rose--it was at this point that she realized how big of a star she’d become, or at least, was starting to become... Amy was a huge fan of her, but Vel? Vel thought she was so... cool. And yet? Amy TERRIFIED her at the same time--Amy Rose gave her this rush inside, like almost magnetized!!

So what did Vel do? She ran away. ANY. CHANCE. SHE COULD GET, she TOOK OFF!!! This weirdo pink hedgehog was making her FEEL THINGS and SHE DIDN’T WANNA FEEL IT!! She just wanted to run and fight robots!!!!!!!!! What she eventually realized was that she wasn’t feeling attraction, but rather, she felt this strange kind of... longing. Like.

Amy Rose gets to be Amy Rose, and she gets to have her quills like that, and she gets to look so pretty, and I don’t get to do that. I don’t get to because I’m a boy, and I’ve got all these expectations... It sucked. She’d spend so much time mulling it over, unable to really think straight, and because of it, Metal Velocity kept getting the better of her--beating her black and blue–until finally she let go… for a brief time, she went back to being the BAD GUY she grew up as, wasting the robot and REVELING in it.‌ Tails wasn’t around to see, Knuckles and Amy both weren’t there, who CARED? She LOVED being what NOBODY approved of!‌ It felt so FREE.

After defeating Eggman and the Death Egg, Amy Rose approached Velocity, and she found out that well… turns out the pink hedgehog had been watching her a lot closer than she’d realized. She could tell that Velocity was struggling–with how people saw her, but not only that, with how she saw herself.

“Being yourself must be hard, huh?”‌

And those words stung, and Vel wanted to run away again, but instead she stayed. Yeah, it was hard, but why?‌ Why did looking at Amy make her feel this sort of… wonder. It wasn’t the same feeling she had when she looked at Knuckles. It was that feeling of wanting to be Amy. That’s what it was–she didn’t have a crush on the pink hedgehog, she wanted to BE the pink hedgehog!‌ It took MONTHS for her to really come to that realization that she’d been feeling so out of place, so put on the SPOT with herself was because she wasn’t a boy. She was a girl, and she was shoving herself into two roles that she couldn’t feel too comfortable in…

A boy, and a hero, at that. With Amy’s support, Vel started to feel more comfortable presenting in a way that matched the way she felt, but… what if Tails and Knuckles thought she was weird?‌ Gross, even?‌

That fear of being rejected, of losing that good validation, of disappointing her friends and family… With Amy’s help, she opened up to them, explaining, to the best of her ability, who she really was… Her past, her present, and who she wanted to be… who she was inside. And did her friends reject her?

No. In fact, they reassured her that she’d always be their friend, that she was still Velocity, after all!‌ Her soul, the wind, had always shone through, and they’d be there for her no matter what. They didn’t fully understand, not entirely, but that didn’t change anything–she was a girl, she was Tails’ big sib, and Knuckles’ best friend. Velocity, in all her attempts to remain as cool and dismissive, covered her face in both hands and sobbed.

How lucky she was to have made such good friends.

By the events of Adventure 1, she was a teenager and had began to present in a way that made her most comfortable–bangs styled (lazily) after Amy’s, and getting to accessorize with clothes that she’d never be able to wear back when she was a kid. She formally began to go by she and her, and it invigorated her. The biggest test of all, really, was what Eggman would think.

She was prepared for something awful, to be met with disgust, disdain–I‌ mean, he’s the big bad villain, right?‌ The bad guy… but instead, he didn’t really have a reaction–not one she was EXPECTING, anyway.

“ARE YOU STYLING YOUR QUILLS LIKE THAT TO MAKE FUN OF ME, YOU BLUE RAT!?” Oh. Right. Bald. She just couldn’t believe it– the world was taking a while to catch up with her change, but Eggman just took it in stride. He’d call her “him” a few times, but eventually… as the years went on, he changed, too.

And he never said a word to her about what he thought. She liked it better that way, that he didn’t feel a need for that. He respected her as his adversary, nothing more.

I didn’t have a Super Nintendo growing up, and it’s weird.

We had literally every other Nintendo system. Never missed one. Except the SNES.

Now, I did have contact with one. We borrowed one from my sister’s friend at one point and got to play things like Donkey Kong Country, and a bit of Chrono Trigger. But most of the latter I think I watched my sister play on the Playstation version, which I bought all by myself with my Christmas money. I was so proud that it was MY effort that let us have Chrono Trigger again.

But any other SNES game...? We didn’t have a chance to experience. We also had a brief time playing some A Link to the Past, but not in any significant way. Those 3 games were probably all we had experience with.

So, I never played Super Mario RPG. I get a little jealous when I hear people talk about growing up with it. I know my sister and I would’ve loved it; we loved Mario games, and we loved RPGs, especially Final Fantasy games. It was like it was made for us to play. We were never involved in console war nonsense at school because we enjoyed everything - we had a Sega Genesis too, so we loved Sonic games in addition to Mario and FF. We had pretty much every major console except the Saturn, CD (are those the same? I don’t know), SNES, and any Xbox. We loved our Dreamcast and probably played it almost as much as our N64.

But it’s just so weird to me that I missed out on so much with the SNES. We often rented games just because they LOOKED fun, like Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon for the N64, which was such an amazing choice because wow, what an amazing series we got introduced to. But I never got to play Earthbound, or SMRPG... DKC and Chrono Trigger were what we had most SNES experience with, and the soundtracks stuck with me so much I can’t even express. We actually had the DKC soundtrack on a CD! I still have it somewhere.

But anyways. If I look back and pretend I HAD played SMRPG... I know I would’ve still loved Geno? I just know it. I have a Thing for Little Blue Guys without even knowing it - hell, Nitros from Bomberman Hero, a character I went constantly apeshit over as a kid, has his exact color scheme! I know I would’ve bothered my sister (who did all the actual game playing) to always have him on her team. I know she’d think he was cool, too. I know I’d write endless stories about me and him going on adventures like I did with my other favorite characters.

I feel like I SHOULD’VE been loving him for these past 20 years... but I guess 11 is doing alright. I sure make up for it with sheer energy and passion, that’s for damn sure.

But still, part of me feels weird that I never got to play the game as a kid. But, maybe it’s better? Cause I didn’t play lots of console games on my own when I was young, since I was afraid. I stuck to my handhelds. But when I got into the game in 2008 I was able to play it by myself.

I know I would’ve felt the same amount of grief at him leaving as I did at the end of Gamma’s story in Sonic Adventure. God that shit still breaks me, my sister tried to console me with “the bird is with its friend!” but no. I wanted my Gamma back.

Sure Geno went home to Star Road because everything’s fixed and really, everything’s better off.

But I still want him back.

in-depth timeline ;

( TIMELINE FROM PREGAMES TO HER CURRENT CANON / AGE 18 )

while my previous post was more of an outline? this is a fully in-depth look into her timelines. this can and might change with any new information canon gives or if things come up in roleplays ( i will not be going into full depth of the plots of these games -- just the basic jist of them. also some games will not include a summary as i don’t feel there’s a need for one. ALSO I WON’T INCLUDE GAMES AMY ISN’T A PART OF. those games happened, of course, but i’m just doing amy’s game timeline. );

PRE-GAMES ;

( entirely headcanon based ! )

Amy was originally an orphan / street hog. Her original parents weren’t prepared to raise a child and left her in the hands of what they hoped was a ‘suitable’ location. Though the people she was left with weren’t ideal and Amy ran away at a very young age. Surviving on the street for a good while by herself. She became known by people for being a ‘rascal’. And, given she didn’t talk much so people couldn’t know her name, her nickname became ‘Rosie’ which is where the moniker ‘Rosie the Rascal’ comes from.

Luckily, by age 6, she was taken in by a family of travelling fortune tellers. They taught her all about tarot cards and always believed she had a true gift or ability in the art of it. She considered them the closest thing to a family she ever had. And they helped her realize there are good people in the world. They saw the good in her, a mere street hog that often swiped and stole food and acted brash, and made her realize the world isn’t as cruel and lonely as she had thought.

During their travels and home life Amy was able to see the good they brought others. Learning about true love, seeing the best in people, and that ‘even those who are bad might have some good in them somewhere’. She decided to keep her name as Amy and adopt the ‘Rose’ to the end of it. No longer going by ‘Rosie’ anymore.

With Amy as part of their family? The travelling stopped. Them wanting to give her a normal life in a town compared to dragging her place to place.

By the age of 7, Amy had learned a lot about a certain blue hedgehog. Admiring him via newspapers, stories, and tales told by others on their journeys. Hearing about Sonic passing through towns and forest to stop the ‘bad guys’. Her crush and admiration is what inspired her to announce to her family ( after doing a tarot card reading ) that she’d meet him. Her family was supportive but grew concerned about letting her be so young and heading out there. Nevertheless this willful ( and stubborn ) little lady was gone in a flash.

AGE 8 - 11 ;

SONIC CD / MANIA ( the shorts / comic series ) ;

Amy truly had no idea what she was getting into. She was starstruck meeting her idol, her crush, and she went in without thinking. Only to soon be caught by Metal Sonic. Being kidnapped when meeting her idol was terrifying to her. Sure, her life beforehand wasn’t ideal. She got chased back on the streets, dealt with some angry individuals who she stole food from before meeting her family, but nothing like this. Nothing deadly or that serious.

Luckily, she was rescued.

And that made her crush on him grow even more.

Wanting to keep up with him, plus possibly defend herself from being kidnapped, she begins working hard using her piko-piko hammer. Continuing to chase after Sonic and join him along the way. Allowing herself to meet Tails and Knuckles in the process as they all go after Eggman.

AGE 11 - 12 ;

PRE SONIC ADVENTURE ( headcanon based ! ) ;

As the years had passed Amy found herself losing track of Sonic and the others for about a year. She decides to return home to visit her parents. She had been keeping in contact with them and visiting them on most holidays. Telling them stories about her adventures with Sonic. But when she arrived she had found the house abandoned and couldn’t get into any contact with them. A neighbor, spotting her confused, tells her that they decided to return to their traveling ways. Believing that, since Amy was so independent and had been proving herself as such, she didn’t need them as much.

Having spent the last few years chasing after Sonic, plus off on adventures, it dawns on her that...she doesn’t have a home ! So she heads off and, after looking at brochures and other things, decides that Station Square is the perfect place to find an apartment ! Plenty of shopping districts, work opportunities, and more !

She ends up getting an apartment there and happens to find work rather easily. Working at a small diner where she helped an elderly couple that ran the place. It didn’t pay much but it allowed her to keep food on the table and gave her something to do to pass the time.

AGE 12 ;

SONIC ADVENTURE ;

However, while work was ‘something’ to do ? She found herself bored sitting around in the same place. Every day she did the same thing. Wake up, get dressed, go to work, go shopping til she dropped, go home, go to bed. It was mundane compared to those years of being rescued by Sonic and following after him. With him gone, with her having nothing to do, she was bored !

That would soon change.

Little did she know her reminiscing and longing for some excitement would, quite literally, fall from the sky in the form of a Flicky. With a desire to protect it, plus a robot now chasing after her, she soon finds herself running into her hero himself ! Sonic would help her ! He would know what to do to keep this birdie safe ! He would--

Except.... he runs away.

She does manage to catch up to him, though ! And, though admittedly a little scatterbrained, she gets distracted by Twinkle Park. This leads to her being captured and taken aboard Eggmans ship in hopes Sonic would come and rescue her. But it’s not Sonic that frees her from the cell. Instead, she befriends a robot that seems to be different from the others. She would end up standing up to Sonic to protect the robot from being destroyed.

Now this is where my version sort of veers off though not by much ;

Unlike the Sonic Adventure game ? Amy witnesses Gamma’s death and the events happen similar as the show Sonic X. With Amy witnessing their final battle and seeing, to her horror, the destruction caused. While it helped reunite the family it also meant having to see a robot she befriended sacrifice itself. She was able to say her goodbyes and thank the robot. Knowing, in the end, the sacrifice had to be made to reunite the family even if it was painful.

She’s happy to see them together and walks out onto the deck with them. Only to witness the same robot from earlier ( the one that had kidnapped her ) shoot down the small Flicky much to her horror. Angered, plus not wanting Gammas sacrifice to go in vain, she challenged the robot. Vowing herself that this time she would be the one laying down her life if need be to keep the Flicky and its family safe.

She takes the robot on with all her might. And manages to win ! Though she doesn’t celebrate much as she worries and frets over if the Flicky was safe. Fearful that it was dead. However, much to her happiness, it’s okay ! She wishes them all well and is happy to see them all together.

Amy realizes, at that moment, she did something on her own. She saved herself, she helped the Flicky, she made a friend of the robot. She vows from that moment on she would do things by herself ! No more waiting for Sonic, no more being the damsel, no more running away ! She was determined to make Sonic realize she could handle herself !

( She also ends up befriending Big & Froggy during this time ).

SONIC SHUFFLE & SONIC ADVANCE TAKE PLACE.

AGE 13 ;

SONIC ADVENTURE 2 TAKES PLACE ;

Amy is stunned to find out Sonic has been captured. She decides, at this moment, she had to free him ! For once she would be the one to save him and not the other way around ! However, it seems no matter what she’s done she’s left behind. She felt as if nobody had faith in her. Everyone kept running away, leaving her behind, acting as if she’s incapable. And she began, in some ways, to feel the same. When she’s held captive by Eggman and watches in horror as Sonic seemingly dies. She blames herself for it. She’s supposed to be strong. And, once again, Sonic saved her ! But this time he’s....dead ! He’s dead ! And it’s HER fault ! She couldn’t even help Tails fight Eggman out of her own grief ! Yet she soon realizes Sonic is alive. Thank goodness.

Amy, along with the others, listens in to the diary that’s being played. Finding out about ‘Maria’ dying, the grief of the man there, and realizing he’s signed a death wish for the Earth. As everyone goes off to help she fnds herself. again, alone. She contemplates this to herself until she sees him -- Shadow, and realizes that while everyone is fighting she’s doing nothing but standing there. She had to help out, do her best, even if it might be futille !

While the events of the game are canon, with Amy going to help out and sticking around, the only thing that differs is her interactions with Shadow.

While in the game the interaction was brief in her helping Shadow remember ? I personally prefer Amy having sort of a similar role to how they did in Sonic X. With an actual back and forth between them that’s tension filled as it shouldn’t have been so easy to trigger Shadows memory after so long.

She ends up mourning Shadows passing yet is glad he was able to fulfill Maria’s final wish.

SONIC ADVANCE 2 TAKES PLACE ;

Amy meets Cream, Cheese, and Vanilla and begins to form a close-friendship / bond with them all.

AGE 14 ;

SONIC HEROES TAKES PLACE.

SONIC BATTLE TAKES PLACE.

I’m not gonna say much about these two games. Nothing against them but I don’t feel like anything I add will be important. I do, however, dislike how Amy is portrayed in both. And I tend to view this as a time period when Amy thought if she was more ‘aggressive’ and ‘assertive’ that she’d be seen as strong. As she felt that she was seen as weak and dainty beforehand.

Luckily, she grew out of this phase.

( However, she was extremely relieved to find out Shadow was ‘alive’ and was very happy to see him again. )

AGE 15 ;

SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG TAKES PLACE.

SONIC ADVANCE 3 TAKES PLACE.

AGE 16 ;

SONIC RIDERS TAKES PLACE.

SONIC RIVALS TAKES PLACE.

AGE 17;

SONIC UNLEASHED TAKES PLACE.

SONIC LOST WORLD TAKES PLACE.

AGE 18 ;

SONIC FORCES / THE IDW COMIC SERIES TAKES PLACE ;

Amy is stunned to find out that Sonic was defeated in battle. But she believes, like always, he will show up eventually. But as time ticks by, months passing and the world under siege, she’s left with this grim realization: he’s not coming back. She ends up joining Knuckles in his Resistance along with a bunch of others. Being forced to grow up more and realize all those ‘fun adventures’ were no longer fun. With it being months after Sonics’ ‘death’ she still longed for him to be alive yet, each time she felt hope, it was dashed by the realistic explanations by the others. It was also hard as, during this time, she had to keep Cream and her mother safe and also help take care of a Tails that was visibly grieving and not in a proper state of mind.

So, upon finding out he’s alive, she’s relieved. Though, upon being able to see him, she does hug him but mostly keeps the warm welcomes for Tails who needs Sonics’ hugs and support more.

She’s a bit surprised to find out, as time passes and they defeat Eggman ( plus begin rebuilding and trying to get the world back to normal ), that her once ‘love’ for Sonic was...diminished. She still loved him. Yet she’s more quiet about it. Just enjoying the fact she has her friend back and wanting to work alongside him to help rebuild and bring happiness to others again. She recognizes that romance isn't a priority in her life anymore and realizes that, perhaps, the world should come first as it’s a place Sonic loves and a place so many people love as well.

She buries herself in work in the resistance and bettering herself physically and mentally. She may still love that hedgehog, in many ways, but she knows that she’s able to enjoy his friendship and decides that she will no longer be chasing after him and focus on herself / her work instead.

There’s No Time to Waste: Miles Luna

@okiemaybeinakinkyway commissioned me to write this. Word Count: 3085 Summary: Based off of this picture. Miles wasn’t always the first choice, be he was certainly the best.

Before you had gone away to college, you weren’t entirely sure what you could expect out of the whole experience. You were hoping to take some fun and challenging classes, to make new friends, and maybe attend a few parties here and there. However, it quickly became apparent that you had not entirely thought out your schedule or how anything was going to work out in your favor. It felt as though everything was piling up and you weren’t sure what you could do to help alleviate the stress that you could feel building at the base of your skull.

It didn’t help much that your last class of the day on Mondays and Fridays ended well after dark and then you had to proceed to trek all the way back across campus alone. At one point, you had mentioned your unease to your roommate who told you about a group of guys who often posted up outside of the Unions advertising that they would walk with anyone on campus who felt they needed someone whether it be you felt discriminated against, threatened, or merely unsafe.

She’d also mentioned that they were all quite cute and very well built, so that was really just a plus.

After a few weeks of your late night terror walks, you decided to give it a try and on your way to your class you managed to find the table set up outside of the University Unions. There was a group of four guys sitting around said table with a poster board sign propped up against the side of the table itself. You took a deep breath and squared your shoulders before strolling over and stopping just in front of the table. All four of them looked up at you and you had expected to feel uneasy under their stares but it was quite the opposite.

“Hey, what’s up?” one of them greeted with a wide smile.

You licked your lips and swallowed hard, “Hi… Uhm, I was just wondering if maybe one of you could walk me back to my dorm after my last class? It gets out late and it really kind of freaks me out to have to make that walk alone in the dark.”

“Yeah, of course,” the one with dirty blonde hair said as he sat up straighter, “What time does your class get out?”

“It usually lets out around 8:45,” you said said softly, shrugging a shoulder.

Three of them turned and looked at one another with slightly unsure expressions on their faces as they leaned in and began almost mumbling to one another. You could very nearly feel your heart sink slightly into your stomach until the fourth member of the group perked up and looked in your direction. He almost looked like he didn’t belong, at least physically, with the guys that he was sitting with, and you could only imagine that most people passed him over for one of the others. But as you looked at him, there was something almost endearing about his bright brown eyes and the way that they crinkled slightly around the edges.

He looked back at the others and placed his hands flat on the table, “Kyle, I know you three have that project to work on tonight, but I can do it.”

There was a beat of silence but all four of them turned to look at you once again. Quickly, he got to his feet and held out a hand in your direction, which you tentatively took in your own for a handshake. “I’m Miles; I’d be more than happy to walk with you, if you’d like,” he said quite happily. You blinked back at him for a moment before you nodded your head and a smile of your own easily spread across your face.

“That would be great, yeah. Thank you so much,” you said as you let out a breath of relief, “Oh right, I’m Y/N.”

Miles dropped your hand and promptly shoved both of his into the pockets of his jeans as he continued to smile at you. “What building is your class in? Do you want me to meet you right outside the room or outside the building?” he asked excitedly. You had to bite down slightly onto your lower lip in an attempt to rein in your own smile that was threatening to grow larger with his infectious enthusiasm.

“Outside the main entrance would be fine,” you offered after explaining where on campus your class was.

Nodding his head rather vigorously, Miles seemed as though he had started to rock on the balls of his feet. “Great, I will meet you outside of the building at 8:45,” he confirmed. You nodded your own head and adjusted the straps of your backpack on your shoulders, your thumbs hooking under them just below your underarms. “Alright, thank you, really,” you said softly, taking a small step backwards. You looked between the four men in front of you, gave a single nod, and turned on your heel to head in the direction from which you came.

You had only taken a few steps away when you heard the group of them begin to laugh amongst themselves. “Miles looks like a damn kid on Christmas morning,” an unfamiliar voice joked. There was barely a beat and then the sound of what had to have been someone being hit in the arm or chest met your ears. “Shut up, Aaron,” Miles said in a tone that was lower and you almost couldn’t make it out. You missed the rest of the conversation as you walked further away but decided to ignore it in order to focus on the task of getting to your next class on time.

The trek to class was entirely uneventful as was the class itself. You found yourself mostly zoning out as you stared through the window on the far wall, watching as the campus flooded with night and street lights popped to life along the streets and walkways below making the area glow in an almost bleary eyed out of focus kind of way. Your thoughts, no matter how hard you tried to steer them elsewhere, kept finding a way back to Miles. There was a slight feeling of nervousness bubbling up in your stomach as you wondered what it was you were going to talk about with him for the walk back to your dorm.

Would you talk? Would he want to? What if the two of you just walked side by side in an awkward silence for ten minutes?

You were sure that your nerves would probably swallow you whole at that point.

Finally after what felt like a lifetime, your professor dismissed everyone almost ten minutes late. As you packed your bag and got to your feet you were a little worried that Miles would have gotten bored of waiting and just left. You attempted to push that thought away as you hurried down the stairwell and out into the lobby of the main building. You had very nearly reached the door leading outside when you spotted Miles sitting on the concrete ledge of a flower bed; he had earbuds in and was looking down at his phone, seemingly to be engrossed in whatever it was.

After taking a few deep breaths, you pushed open the door and stepped out into the almost muggy night air. You walked over to where Miles was sitting and carefully reached hand out to gingerly tap him on the shoulder to gain his attention. He jolted lightly and quickly removed his earbuds to look up in your direction, a large smile quickly making its way onto his face. “Hey, Y/N! How was class?” he asked as he got to his feet, wrapping the earbuds around his phone and shoving the device into his pocket.

“It was pretty… boring, actually,” you laughed softly.

Miles nodded and chuckled as well, “I feel you. There are a few classes I have that if attendance wasn’t mandatory, I would never step foot in that room until the day of the final.”

There was something about Miles’ smile and laugh that seemed to put you at ease and you were very grateful for that. Without much prompting, the both of you turned and started to walk in the direction of your dorm. “What were you watching before I came out?” you asked, glancing up at him. Miles’ face looked momentarily panicked at your question before he let out a low sigh. “I was, uh, just listening to the Sonic CD soundtrack,” he answered, shoving his hands into the pockets of his jacket.

Your eyes narrowed slightly in thought, “Like… Sonic the Hedgehog?”

“Yeah… the soundtracks are really good and, I mean, the games are great too,” he said excitedly, almost bouncing as he spoke.

“I don’t think I’ve ever really played a Sonic game,” you said, shrugging a shoulder.

It took you a few steps to realize that Miles had stopped walking all together. You paused and looked back to see him staring at you with an incredulous expression on his face and his arms out in a questioning manner. “What do you MEAN that you’ve never played Sonic before? What kind of inhumane monster are you?” he asked, his voice steadily raising with each word. You blinked back at him with a nearly emotionless face that his own expression fell to mirror, until both of you broke and grinned at one another. Miles shook his head and hurried forward to take his spot by your side so that you could continue on your way.

“I was never really all that into Sega,” you explained, “I was much more of Nintendo kid growing up.”

Miles scoffed and, very dramatically, rolled his eyes, “Puh-lease, Sonic is so much better. For real, you should totally come by my place sometime and play. I’ve got all the games and systems set up and… oh, my god. I’m such a nerd, I’m sorry.”

You could only let out a loud laugh before reaching out to place a comforting hand on Miles’ arm and gave him a gentle pat. “Don’t worry about it, dude. We all have our nerdy perversions,” you laughed before taking your hand back to put both of your hands in your pockets. Miles laughed and shook his head slowly from side to side as he followed your lead down the sidewalk. He quickly launched into a long winded rant about the lore of Sonic the Hedgehog and which games were the best. At a certain point all you could really do was nod a long as he talked, but the way he was so invested in what it was he was talking about really drew you in.

By the time that the pair of you came to a stop outside of your dorm building it felt as though you’d only been walking for a minute or two. You shuffled your feet a bit awkwardly against the pavement, unsure of what to say or do at this point. Miles, however, reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone before giving you a quick look.

“How often do you have this class?” he asked absently, tapping at something on his screen.

Your eyebrows knitted together slightly, “Uh… every Monday and Friday.”

“Do you want me, or someone to walk with you every time?” he asked, looking back up at you expectantly, “I… we’d me more than happy to help.”

For a moment, you faltered over your words until you finally cleared your throat and gave your head a slight shake to get your thoughts in order. “Uhm, yeah… That’d be great. If you’re not busy. I don’t want to like… mess up your plans or anything. I know that walking me home at nine on a Friday night is probably the last thing you’d want to do,” you said with a self-deprecating chuckle.

Miles in turn gave you a confused sort of look, “No, no. This is great. Trust me, I don’t mind.”

He then held his phone out towards you and you looked down to see that he had started to enter a new contact with your name. You smiled slightly and took his phone in your hands to put in your phone number. Once you had saved it, you sent yourself a text message from his phone so that you would have his number as well before handing the phone back to Miles. His smile grew and very nearly lit up his entire face as he pocketed the phone once more. “Great, well… I guess I’ll see you Friday night, Y/N,” he said, nodding his head. You bit down gently onto your lower lip as you nodded your head in return.

“Yeah… I’ll see you around. Thanks again, Miles,” you said before turning and heading into the building.

The weeks following your first walk with Miles were rather enjoyable. You greatly looked forward to your Monday and Friday night classes, if only to be able to walk home with Miles. It was a great way to start and end your week of classes; talking with him was easy and fun. Occasionally, Miles couldn’t make it and you had ended up walking with Aaron, Kyle, and Blaine at one point or another. Each of them were nice and everything but you couldn’t help but wish that it were Miles you were walking with.

“Any plans for this weekend?” Miles asked as you were approaching your dorm.

You shrugged a shoulder, “My roommate is hellbent on dragging me to a party at some house tomorrow night.”

“That should be fun,” he said, until he caught your expression, “Do you not want to go?”

There was a small beat of silence as you took a deep breath and thought it over. “I don’t know. Parties, at least the ones my roommate likes to go to, aren’t exactly my thing,” you said softly, stopping at the front of your building.

Miles gave you a comforting smile and leaned down to wrap you up in a hug, “I’m sure it’ll be fine. Goodnight, Y/N.”

“Goodnight, Miles,” you said as you pulled away.

It seemed like the second that you had stepped foot into the house you had lost sight of your roommate. The house was packed and the music was so loud that you could feel the bass pumping through your chest. You were unsure of what to do or where to go considering that the only person you knew had essentially ditched you immediately.

You let out a sigh and promptly turned on your heel to head back towards the front door. You pushed past the people around you and when you finally got outside you took a deep breath, appreciating air that wasn’t full of smoke or smelled like cheap beer. Your feet carried you down the few steps leading off of the front porch and you must not have been looking where you were going as you made it out to the sidewalk out front since you bumped into someone.

“Oh, I am so sorry, I wasn’t lo- Oh, Miles,” you stopped apologizing and chuckled softly at seeing him in front of you.

Miles smiled widely down at you, “Hey, Y/N… what’re you up to?”

The two of you naturally began walking side by side down the sidewalk and you couldn’t help but sigh loudly, folding your arms over your chest. “My roommate bailed on me as soon as we got into the party and I just wasn’t feeling it so I’m just heading back to my room,” you explained, shrugging a shoulder. Miles hummed softly and shook his head slowly. “I’m sorry that your roommate sucks,” he laughed.

You rolled your eyes, “Don’t worry about it. It’s not that big of a deal.”

Together, the two of you walked in a comfortable silence for a little ways until you stopped and blinked back at Miles. He took a step or two forward before he realized you were behind him, and he turned back to look at you. “I didn’t ask you to walk with me,” you said softly. It wasn’t in a rude or shocked way, but you were just confused as to why the two of you seemed to walk together so organically without any prompting from either one.

“Yeah, I just wanted to,” he laughed, “You looked like you needed some company.”

You nodded your head slightly and a smile spread across your lips as you walked forward to catch up with Miles, the two of you continuing on your way. You walked a block or two before you glanced up at Miles from the corner of your eye, trying to force yourself to speak up and say something - anything.

“Hey, Miles,” you finally said after what felt like ages.

Miles let out a soft hum, “Yeah?”

“Remember how you said I should come over sometime and we could play Sonic?” you asked, your words very deliberate.

“Yeah,” he said slowly, turning his head to look back at you.

You took a deep breath and dropped your hands to absently fiddle with the hem of your shirt, your fingers tugging slightly on a loose thread. You swallowed hard and took a slow, deep breath before finally looking back up at him. He was watching you intently and it nearly made your footsteps falter, but you managed to right yourself before you thoroughly humiliated yourself.

“I was just wondering if maybe… you wanted to do that tonight? We could maybe stop and grab some pizza or something too,” you offered, feeling your cheeks begin to heat up.

Miles’ smile only grew and you had to divert your eyes away from him to look down at the pavement in order to try and get a hold of yourself. He made a small humming sound and you suddenly felt an arm being looped around your neck and shoulders, as well as the length of a body being pressed against your side. “Hell yeah, that sounds like so much fun,” he laughed, urging you to walk faster until he brought the both of you to a sudden stop, “Wait… are you asking me on a date?”
