ok so in the books one of Hannibal's art forms is flower arranging; it's one of the first things Murasaki does with him when he arrives in France in Hannibal Rising and is one of the first activities where he feels a connection to someone since his family died. He does this from like 12 years old all the way up through the end of the events of Hannibal (he makes some bouquets for Clarice after their escape from Muskrat Farm) but I would argue that NBC!Hannibal's stunning food displays are the equivalent of his flower arrangements in the novels.

I'd say making a (good) flower arrangement and staging a beautiful, well balanced plate/table display are fairly similar in terms of artistic outlook. You need to be able to start with nothing and see the bigger picture of how all the components will complement each other, what would look good in contrast with each other, how texture and color impact the overall tableau, etc.

While NBC!Hannibal definitely uses bouquets as part of the set design in Hannibal's home (and I'm certain he would have designed them himself), they are not the focus of the scene. And while book!Hannibal is very into fine food and drink and a nice table setting (in fact, his taste in food/wine/tableware/cars is exactly how Clarice found him post-Florence) there is little focus on the display of the food (you could argue that in the dinner scene with Krendler, display is very important, with the abundance of flowers and the tableside show, but its one of the only times Harris made it the focus of a scene and it was honestly still more about the flowers and making it a positive experience for Clarice than it was about the plating).

Anyway TLDR Hannibal's food displays in the show are the equivalent of his flower displays in the books and I think that was a nice way of reimagining the character for the purposes of the show.

Of course you’d kept it secret, had you told anyone, let alone Hannibal, about your or Eddies “little secret” it’s no doubt you both would’ve been institutionalised immediately.

You were very, very, sneaky about who you ate and where. Picking off rude people you saw in the store, men who are too crude to women, or following drivers who drive like dicks off the road to devour. People nobody would necessarily miss too much. They were never reported as murders, either, just missing.

Since you and Eddie are investigative journalists you would be assigned to these cases with the aid of Hannibal, but would quickly drop them, as there is “insufficient evidence” and it “simply could be anyone”

Hannibal believes you’re both lazy at first, dismissing cases, until he realises there’s a common theme going on between you both. People go missing in the same area, you’re both assigned to the case with his help, and suddenly the case is dropped with you both acting suspicious.

He, of course, does not think you’re symbiote. Just a classic cannibal murderer.

Will has his suspicions too, but instead of believing you’re cannibal murderers he simply believes perhaps you both know something about the missing people that you aren’t saying for whatever reason.

It displeases them both greatly.

Hannibal and Will both agree that the best course of action would be to host a dinner party at Hannibal’s home, to gain trust and open a discussion about the missing people.

And to potentially see if you recognise the taste of human meat…

You and Eddie both turn up to the party, in your smartest attire, ignoring the very sarcastic comments the symbiotes make as you both get ready.

When you are both seated, Hannibal and Will share glances with one another

You and Eddie share a glance too, after tasting the meat, silently confirming exactly what you have both just put in your mouthes. And Hannibal catches onto this.

He glances over at Will again, and before he can say anything a loud crash comes from the back of the dining room, as the window shatters upon impact when a giant, red symbiote with rage in its eyes crashes in

“What the FUCK-!?” Will shouts, pulling out his gun and firing into it as much as he can.

Hannibal stands and quickly moves away from it, as it snarls and takes every bullet from Wills gun. It turns to both you and Eddie as Venom emerges from you both, emerging from your skin like a sick, black, sweat.

Hannibal and Will both stand back in the doorway, watching in confused horror as the three of you fight it out in their dining room, you and Eddie quickly overpower carnage and he turns on his tail and runs out into the night, howling about coming back.

You both turn back and check on each other, before turning to your horrified friends in the corner.

“what the fuck was that…” Will asks, his gun pointed at the both of you, whilst Hannibal desperately tries to process what just happened.

Looks like you’ve both got too much explaining to do.

Hannibal song of the day: song no.1

a bit about the song:

"Missing Piece" (released in 1997) is a song by Recoil, a music project by Alan Wilder (former member of Depeche Mode, a group which I absolutely love and have a lot of their songs in my playlist). The song was written and sang as a duo by Alan Wilder and Siobhan Lynch. It's a moody and dark electronica song with jazzy elements and even a violin solo In short, the song is about self discovery and enlightement that a relationship has brought to the narrator, who has felt alone and misunderstood their whole life until they met the person who was their "missing piece". It explores the complex emotions and realisations that arose from the relationship(whether the relationship ended or not isn't really implied, at least in my eyes, although for my view on the song when it comes to hannibal, i think it might have).

now, i think from that it's already clear enough that I'm thinking about hannigram for this. I mean c'mon, a narrator that felt misunderstood and has been afraid to fully opening up to anybody, because of it's risks, even though they have so much love to give. That's literally Hannibal.

Although I feel like the narrator can also be Will but with how open and desparate the narrator seems, I keep thinking of Hannibal.

Hannibal loves to impact people (literally manipulates them), even though it doesn't last (usually).

Through the show, we can see just how many people he actually changed, changing their mindsets, convincing them to murder etc. that's more leaving an impact on their brain, but with Will, he's different. He indeed does change his mindset but he also really tries to get a place in Will's heart and get his attention because, as he confessed to Bedelia, Will intrigues him. I think the lyrics of the narrator wanting to write themselves on the walls of somebody's heart and leave an impact on them is just so incredibly hannibal.

But again, those people don't last usually, they usually end up dead, be it as Hannibal's dinner or something else. He knows this danger, and he knows this complicated knot of manipulation and lies he tied himself and Will with will most likely break off at some point, which he slowly comes to realise he doesn't want it to happen. (and then fucking mizumono happens)

In the song, the narrator hides the truth, most likely because of the fear of rejection, fearing the person doesn't feel the same, or because of the fear of losing the person. In season 2, his decision was to continue lying, not confessing the truth of his plan to Will, in my eyes to try and secure him in his hold, get his trust and love, see if Will would truly understand him and accept him for who he is - so, he stops himself from telling Will the truth, pretending his plan, his answers have nothing to do with his love for Will, but instead pretend that his plan is to destroy Will's life, leaving out the part where he's hoping Will would want to try and rebuild his life with Hannibal.

self explanatory. There's so little to say, because the lyrics describe it so well, yet at the same time there's SO much to say.

The chorus is sung as a duo, both the narrator and the narrator's person. They both feel like they're the same and are each other's missing pieces, harmonising together.

I truly thing the best way to describe hannigram's relationship is by saying that they're each other's missing pieces. Hannibal seems to be a well-organized set of his pieces that make up him as well as a set of other people that he manipulated kind of as a list (maybe some as trophies). He's so composed, he's sure of his values and knows who he is, he's fully in control yet still felt incomplete, so he has spent his whole life finding that last missing piece (perhaps another meaning for missing, maybe he already had one and lost it, the missing piece being his sister........ ouch, although can't give much thought to this cuz haven't seen season 3 yet), a person who will be just like him and will complete him, not judge him, see him, accept him and be with him. That piece is Will.

He holds him up to the light, analyses him, studies him, gets to know him to determine if he is indeed the missing piece (in the show, he does his usual tactic of manipulating with the intention of making him his dinner but the more he got to know him, the more intrigued he got and saw a possibility of Will understanding him), and he indeed is his missing piece.

The fact that the narrator's person only sings during the chorus makes me think of how Hannibal made Will realise that he is Hannibal's missing piece and that although Will didn't really want it to be true, Hannibal helped him realise that Hannibal is Will's missing piece too - That's why I see the narrator as Hannibal and narrator's person as Will. He seems to be the second to realise this and accept this.

"Sometimes is a lonely place" is straightforward, I think. The two literally admit and show that they feel alone without each other, they have never felt so true to themselves as they feel when they're together, a room or a moment in life without one another is empty, a period without each other is a period they feel the most lonely.

ngl, verse 2 and chorus are quite similar in meaning to me. Maybe it's more so Hannibal letting Will study him as well and get to know him, letting Will tow him over to the light (let Will inside his mind). I feel like the lyrics about the narrator's heart being contained in a cell is maybe Hannibal becoming more and more aware of how restrictive he was with his emotions, how his human suit made him lock away his real heart and after many tries of trying to find the right key, Will finally found it and unlocked Hannibal's true self to the world. Overall, I feel like Hannibal feels the world is very restrictive for his type of people but he has found a way to live with it and accept it, although the desire to find a person like him never disappeared

the end seems very lamentful to me. Sorry but it reminds me of mizumono

the end is overall so beautiful, I love how dark, slow yet jazzy and classy the song sounds, the coda just sounds like absolute heaven to me and its instrumental reminds me of the show overall so so much

but anyhow, the lyrics getting repeated, the moody, whiny tone the narrator sings it in combined with the reverb and minor key just immediately makes me think that the narrator lost their missing piece, reminiscing the times they had with them. Because of that, I immediately think of Mizumono and how distraught Hannibal was when he realised that Will betrayed him, letting Will see him just for Will to try and get him killed, even though he had a plan of giving back Will everything that he lost and everything that was precious to him. The whole song sounding quite blurry makes me think of how much emptiness Hannibal probably felt after the events in mizumono, how much of a blur everything was to him.

in conclusion, the song is literally so hannibal lecter coded to me

I realize I'm over the "Case of the Week" police procedural, not every one but most of the new ones. One and done really doesn't interest me anymore. I need a lasting impact, I need an overall story.

I think it's the fault of Hannibal. That show really did case of the week right.

They had two cases, the Minnesota Shrike and The Copycat (Hannibal), that had an impact over the entire show. The audience got to watch Will change and adapt because the case (TMS) really impacted him and infiltrated his mind. While then trying to solve the main case of The Copycat/Hannibal the Cannibal and using everything he was experiencing on the case of the week to solve the Copycat.

Take Found. I like it, but I think it would benefit from Gabi trying to solve a confirmed long-term kidnapping, like hers. It would be much more impactful emotionally and give a better reason for her detaining Sir. Then, in between her looking for the long-term kidnapper, she makes him help her find other kidnappers.

They have the case right there. Margaret's son. That case only being used for her story is irritating. Make it the case of the season. It's so much more interesting than her going to the bus station looking with no real reason other than that's where she chose (maybe that's where he went missing, I might've missed the explanation), and it makes her "super power" less of a gimmick.

To be fair, we haven't seen the episode of how Gabi came to find Sir, so who knows, that could change everything for me, but so far, I'm just not understanding why she chose detaining over turning him in.

Will Trent does killer of the week in a way I enjoy. But again, it's about lasting impact and having something to solve in between cases.

I also think it's a writing thing. I do watch and love police procedurals, and I know the whole point is that a casual or first-time viewer can just hop in whenever. But the writing can be a little too on the nose and never give the viewer anything to interpret themselves can be done in a show with an overarching story.

Imagine this show in the hands of Shondaland!!! My god, it would be off the charts.

i know sukuita is my number one ship and all but i kind of feel like talking about tenjoh more, since it's very underrated, so i'm going to go ahead and rant about those two.

spoilers ahead if you haven't watched monster yet!

i only recently started in on this series, but i'm already obsessed with it. what first drew me to it was, of course, johan. i love a complex, chilling, deeply philosophical villain, especially one who people think they understand when they really don't. and even johan doesn't fully understand himself either.

though his presence is a very dark and disturbing one that hangs over everyone, johan himself doesn't have much screen time for the majority of the series (much like james moriarty or hannibal lecter), and it's only towards the very end that we actually come to understand more about him and who he really is. even his true name is never given. and this is essential to his role in the story as it gives him a lot of nuance and complexity.

johan is depicted at first as the very embodiment of evil, a literal monster, yet his relationships with characters like his sister nina and his savior tenma give him a lot more depth and even contradict the idea of him being solely "bad."

arguably, johan has no "positive" traits initially, but his greatest strengths do like in his immense intelligence and incredible understanding of the human mind. he is able to come across as charismatic, compassionate, and kind-hearted to many others precisely because of how adept he is at essentially slipping into other people's lives, much like the monster from the storybook he read over and over as a child. his worst personality traits, morally, are his murderous intentions and manipulative nature.

like johan, tenma is also very intelligent and perceptive, too, but unlike johan he's truly kind-hearted, caring, and puts other people ahead of himself. i would say that the greatest strengths tenma has are his uncompromising optimism and empathy as well as his intelligence and sense of purpose. i would say his worst weakness, though, are his lack of self-preservation and his unflinching sense of morality, although his experience with johan does change him a bit towards the end.

for me, personally, i think the best thing about johan and tenma's dynamic is how unconventional it is. unlike the "heroes" in shows such as death note or psycho pass, tenma is not well-versed in criminology or psychology, as he's a doctor and not a detective. johan's relationship with tenma is also different from how a lot of traditional hero/villain dynamics are written, especially because tenma didn't create johan (bonaparta did) but still feels such a strong sense of responsibility towards him.

it's common for villains, especially the ones in comics or literature such as frankenstein, to have a vengeance against those who created their monstrosities. but tenma never did anything negative to impact johan or drive him into becoming a villain. in fact, tenma was the one to save johan's life as a child, even going as far as to prioritize the boy's life over the mayor's, which inevitably led to the ruination of tenma's successful career as a neurosurgeon.

though tenma was briefly bitter about this, he never regretted saving johan's life, even though the boy would grow up to become the "one in the shadows" who orchestrated so much of the death and destruction in the series.

johan was at the brink of death due to asking his sister to shoot him and kill the monster inside of him, but tenma chose to save johan's life, which led to johan returning the favor - in his own way - by killing the people responsible for the downfall of tenma's career. it was almost like his really messed up way of saying thank you. but learning that fact drove tenma to feel like johan was his responsibility. and even though tenma could have left johan's fate in the hands of others, he chose to pursue johan - obsessively and single-mindedly - for almost a whole decade.

although his personal mission was to kill johan himself, tenma failed to do so multiple times, mostly because of his overwhelming sense of ethics, his unshakeable belief that "all lives are created equal." his position as a doctor, as someone who wanted to live to help others, makes him almost completely opposite from johan, who believes that only death is equal for all and puts no value in even his own life.

even though johan kills pretty much everyone who remembers or knows about him, he spared tenma's life out of thankfulness that the doctor saved him... and also so that tenma could be the one to destroy him. he puts tenma through a living hell in order to create his own "perfect death" and wants to die from the very hands that saved him by driving tenma into breaking his ideals (which i find beautifully twisted and almost poetic).

but instead of coming to despise johan enough to kill him without regret, tenma actually uncovers the truth of johan's past and even feels an intense empathy and desire to forgive him.

johan wanted his own life, the life tenma gave back to him, to end so that he could prove his point that life has no meaning. but tenma saw meaning even in the monster. and even though johan killed so many people for no apparent reason or motive a lot of the time, tenma comes to understand that johan isn't a mindless monster with no other purpose than to destroy.

i have a lot more to watch before i actually finish the story, but based on what i already know and have gathered so far, the relationship between johan and tenma is one that i find really fascinating and complex. i would highly recommend more people try out this series - not just for them but also for the many amazingly interesting side characters and the thoughtful philosophical elements.

I’ve watched snw and lower decks but haven’t watched discovery yet (not sure if I’m going to frankly) I feel like all I hear is negative things about it? And my opinion is that snw would be unwatchable without uhura and the occasional charm from some of the other characters (none of which are like. Consistently great even if they all have their moments) but lwd is really solid perhaps my favorite Star Trek thus far (I’ve seen up to season 2 tng of old trek watching in release order)

Is disco really that bad? Is it worth watching? I always kind of wonder if people hate on it excessively because it has a black woman as the lead (lwd does too ofc but she notably shares that role with a white man and it’s an animated workplace comedy as opposed to a serious space adventure)

so I think one thing that trips people up with discovery is that the first season is pretty grim and violent and a lot of the characters hate each other. i don’t know why bryan fuller went for hannibal rather than pushing daisies when he wrote season 1, but he did. i think this is what puts a lot of the tumblr demographic off. the tone changes a lot in later seasons and becomes more recognizably star trek, and you can really tell they went through multiple showrunners.

for the reddit demographic, i do think they’re just mad about a black woman being captain and gay people being featured in prominent roles lmao. they give themselves away when they say michael burnham is a mary sue—she’s no more mary sue than james kirk. the fact she’s spock’s adopted sister might seem kind of silly at first but i think the show actually does some really compelling stuff with it, and i loved their sibling interactions.

all that is to say, the show has some issues which may or may not impact your enjoyment, but imo yes, it’s worth at least giving a chance—it’s worth it just for sonequa martin-green’s performance as michael burnham, honestly, even if you’re not interested in the plot. saru and stamets are my other two favorites, and they get some pretty interesting stuff to do.

in conclusion—i understand why some people don’t like disco’s vibe and feel like it’s got too many convoluted plots and firefights for a star trek show. i agree with that to an extent, but i also think it’s got some really good characters and interesting takes on pre-existing lore.

I’ll never get over how Will gave him the skankiest most arrogant little smirk right to the camera when he said “the charm being debatable”….. the tricky thing with the show is that we’re introduced to The Main Guy when his brain is already being affected with encephalitis (which Hannibal, of course, aggravates, and is then treated and cured while in the BSHCI in early S2). And where is your identity— both the one you present to the world and the one you consider closest to yourself— held? Along with your instincts, your smarts, your function and memories? Your BRAIN, of course.

And encephalitis hits all that like an electric mixer by inflaming the brain and exerting pressure, leaving someone in pain and vulnerable in all sorts of ways. If it was real life, the show would be over before the year or so of S1 ended because Will would’ve keeled over dead or been severely disabled as a result. But of course it’s fun and fiction, and Hannibal has always used real facts as inspirations rather than concrete things. After S1, Will’s empathy changes— there are no more nightmares, there’s no more uncontrolled factors. He has a remarkable (and fantastically fictional, of course) amount of conscious and selective control with his visualizations. So I definitely think that Will is closer to a pure, authentic version of himself in S2+ because of that, and sometimes I do wish everyone would recall that it was only during S1ep2, in his second or third session with his brand new FBI-appointed psychiatrist who knew his boss personally, where he said that he really wanted to go back to the field because killing Abigail’s father hadn’t really impacted him, and that he thought it felt good. That it felt powerful.

And then he chose to have more sessions with a psychiatrist who responded to that by saying that humans are made in God’s image, that killing is an act of God, and that we can certainly do as God does…… that just goes to show how he views things. If he’d had a proper psychiatrist, they’d have likely agreed with Chilton and marked him down as having some solid “dark triad” traits, if not a potential diagnosis. This isn’t to say that Hannibal’s influence didn’t matter either way in the end— it definitely did for both of them and their self-realizations and character progressions. Hannibal’s influence provided him with things to consider and understandably inflamed a sense of deep anger and a desire for violence in him.

I think that without their S1 story, it would’ve taken Will a lot longer to accept and wield those parts of himself openly, and it would’ve looked very different in terms of events. But it’s well established that he’d been buckling under the pressure of a lifelong ethos of what he should be like, feeding his darkness the scraps his empathy could scrape from crime scenes, and would’ve cracked and had his “becoming” eventually— or maybe made some other kind of harsh decision like ending his life.

the "diagnosis" Chilton gave Will during his trial was the one closest to the truth ("Will Graham has never been diagnosed. He won't allow anyone to test him. He has carefully constructed a persona to hide his real nature from the world. He wears it so well, even Jack Crawford couldn't see past it. (...) There is not yet a name for whatever Will Graham is.")

unlike Alana Bloom or Jack Crawford, he saw what a manipulator Will was and that in front of them he played a poor, confused, wounded bird ("(...) A particularly-manipulative one at that. Poor, confused, wounded bird for Agent Crawford and Doctors Lecter and Bloom. And for me, well, I get the psychopath's triumvirate: charm, focus and ruthlessness. The charm, of course, being debateable.")

he believed Will that Hannibal may be the Chesapeake Ripper and said Jack Crawford: "Hannibal once served me tongue and made a joke about eating mine. It's hard not to at least consider it.". Jack ignored him. (I think Jack was already planning some large-scale action against Hannibal, but that's a topic for another post)

Why do you think Alana so easily believed the worst of Will? aside from the encephalitis. She claimed to be his friend again and again but believed the best of Hannibal saying she knew him longer even though, as far as we know it was in a professional capacity, before he got involved with her. If my friend and someone I cared about was accused of what Will was framed for, I mean I would question it at least even a little! especially if said friend had an incredibly gift which he used to help so many times. I would at least stop and think “hmm Hannibal does fit the profile of the Chesapeake ripper to a T” It always bugged me about Alana. I’m rewatching the series and it she irks me all over again haha.

While Jack isn’t perfect, at least he gave Will the benefit of the doubt and did end up believing him and started investigating Hannibal further. Beverley went out on a limb for Will, too! someone who knew will for less time than Alana gave him more consideration! even Zeller later says Beverley believed in Will and that they should have as well bc if they did, she might still be alive

I think the problem is that Will and Alana were never friends, not really. We know they never even talked one on one before the start of the show. He referred to her rather impersonally and she admitted she didn't want to be alone with him because she felt intense professional curiosity toward him. That doesn't count as friendship.

They began to grow closer throughout S1, but even then, few of their interactions had depth. They flirted at times, discussed crimes, and talked about Will being unstable. Almost all of their interactions were colored by this last nuance, which had its impact. S1 starts in autumn that eventually grows into winter, so Will and Alana had just a couple of months where they talked occasionally and kissed once, with Will's jerky mental state haunting them on a constant basis.

As a contrast, Hannibal has been her mentor for over a decade, maybe more. He's always been stable and upfront; he helped numerous people and had a brilliant reputation in their circles. Since he kept beer specifically in stock for her, I think they shared a semblance of friendship for years. I also believe Alana has always been interested in him romantically. It wasn’t strong enough to encourage her to make her move, but it was simmering there and eventually culminated in the start of their ‘romance’.

Alana doesn’t know Will at all when it comes down to it, but she does know Hannibal. There was a lot of evidence against Will and nothing against Hannibal - it's logical of her to trust a well-known stable person over a basically stranger with severe problems. She knew Will's unstable from the start, she knew he’s struggling with something, but she didn’t know much of anything else. 

Alana supports Will up until the moment he gets treatment and stops playing in vulnerability. When he tries to kill Hannibal, Alana is horrified. She sees a dark and manipulative person, not a vulnerable soft man who needed help. She also starts feeling protective over Hannibal because Will hurt him. This is the only evidence she sees: Hannibal not hurting anyone, almost dying, and Will being a killer. She really has no reason to believe Will over Hannibal. 

I agree about giving Will the benefit of the doubt because of his work, but the situation was very complex: with all the evidence against Will, his abilities are exactly what potentially makes him a perfect killer. He could make up any profile and stick to it to confuse others.

I don't think Beverly went out on a limb for Will - initially, she seemed disgusted with him, but she wanted to use him for the greater good. Will blackmailed her into helping him, and once she began to see proof of his words, she got genuinely invested - not because of Will but because of justice. Will’s disappointment and loneliness in those scenes are profound. 

I can't blame any of them, to be honest, with all this evidence and the kind of personality Will had. I do wonder how come they believed Will swallowed an entire ear without chewing it, but that's probably a question for writers :D

Previously on BnHA: Ochako shamed the U.A. Clown Mob into letting Deku go back inside his own fucking school by giving them an hour-long speech about how not to be humongous dickheads. Kouta and Gigantic Fox Lady saved the manga by being the only ones brave enough to give Deku a hug. Shouto was all “man, all this togetherness sure does remind me of that promise you made that we would handle Touya together which you immediately bailed on, doesn’t it, Dad.” Aizawa was all, “for the one and a half people out there who thought that my losing an eye and a leg might actually make me less sexy, I’m very happy to prove you wrong.” All Might was all, “[standing outside the U.A. fortress alone in the rain talking to someone or something??].” Like seriously, what was up with that though.

Today on BnHA: All Might is all “here I am in Kamino having a belated mid-life crisis because Deku abandoned me and I’m a terrible mentor and everything sucks and I hate myself.” Stain is all, “don’t make me come over there and give you a ten page speech about why you’re still the goat while menacingly holding you at swordpoint the entire time” because idk if you knew this guys, but Stain is pretty crazy actually. Anyway so he does that, and then All Might gets all emotional, and then the lady from chapter 92 shows up and gives All Might’s statue an encouraging pep talk, and then Horikoshi is all “and it even stopped raining lol can you believe this shit I’m not even a little bit subtle,” and he really isn’t. But I still got emotional anyway, because seeing people reassure All Might that everything he’s struggled for his entire life hasn’t been in vain just got to me okay. Horikoshi knows I am weak to the All Might feels and he just goes for the jugular every time, that bastard.

And all of those are very valid opinions to have! Like I said in my post above, there's value in all types of media for each and every person. The reasons I may find a distaste for it may be the reasons why people adore the show.

When I spoke about my opinion as to why I find it unrealistic, that was not me dissing the show, or doing anything to negate it's value to younger queer audiences.

I also will not sit here and say that every show needs to be hypersexualized, which is not at all where I was going with my statements (although I will add, that the purification of queer teens to make them marketable to straight audiences as to make them more palatable, does lead to the demonization of other, just as valid, queer experiences) or like Euphoria.

I have many qualms with that show. My adolescence was already like that, and I take issue with the beautification romanticization of suffering (especially young women's suffering, and the historical roots as to why the damsel in distress trope still plagues us to this day, and negatively impacts how young women see their roles in the world, and how influencing them to see pain as beauty, and that they need to be saved or controlled by someone more powerful than they, contributes only to serve the patriarchy.) and the last thing that I want is for EVERY show to be like that.

I think that there is an audience for every show, and someone that can take away something from every piece of media. With that being said, Heartstopper is just not my cup of tea when it comes to seeking realism. I still enjoy the show, it is very palatable and an easy watch that still gives me the rush of conflict and resolution (while also keeping it within a safety net of not going off the deep end, like with Euphoria as you used as your example).

At the same time, I prefer media that is a bit more heavy handed on blurring the lines between 'good' and 'bad', showing the complexities of human emotions and the human experience, and things that will make me question my morals, such as Hannibal, Breaking Bad, Stranger Things, and The Last Of Us.

My response was not intended to insight feelings of invalidation, and I'm sorry if that was the impact that it had on you. I was merely trying to offer a difference in perspective, just as I am doing with my response :)

WELL as i said i have a lot of ideas sitting around waiting to be worked on. there's a bigger mizumono divergence one i'm waiting for the right time and energy to take on and for right now i just jot down ideas about it when they strike me but i would love to make it more ensemble focused and like. rotating POVs and following a few concurrent intersecting character arcs. and also clarice starling is there ? hopefully that pans out one day

R: Are there any writers (fanfic or otherwise) you consider an influence?

OOOH yeah i mean i do a lot of imitating the tone of the show as much as i can more than really getting into outside literary influences but other fanfic writers DO get me hooked on trying new things based on stuff i admire about their work. my partner sarah (@howlikeagod) is one of my favorite writers ever (she does not go to hannibal specifically) for the way she takes big adventurous creative swings with format and always knows the right place to insert the funniest bit i have ever seen in my life. insofar as hannibal writers i think emungere's work with dialogue and the way every spoken word carries paragraphs of weight is so so cool? i love chaparral-crown's magic realism and the introspective asides? i think zipegs crafts the most evocative imagery and has a way of making the setting work as a living and breathing character and i love his STUFF. kissing that beautiful brain. lectercunt and h0neybeebear write so well together in complimentary ways and i happen also to love their prose individually its so rich with detail. im saying a lot but there's a lot of good writers out here i lick my chops at like a cartoon wolf

...I'd forgotten about how when Abigail wakes up Will mentions once that he wants to go see her and that she doesn't have anyone to rely on and Alana immediately starts up with "You can't be her everyone" and "Dogs keep a promise a person can't" and like... once again not getting the sense she actually sees Will as a friend, because that's just a bit of a leap and as she herself admits incredibly insulting. Like, she kind of immediately assumes he's going to try to make himself into Abigail's everyone and that's not actually what Will wants. Yeah, he has a bit of a Thing about Abigail, but it's not the sort of Thing where he wants to be her only support; hell, he's more than happy to let Hannibal and Alana take point and is very aware that given he killed her father there's a fair chance that she doesn't want anything to do with him. Alana does have a point with how the first person Abigail talks to about what happened shouldn't be Will or Hannibal because they were there and involved, but like... the fact that she opens with all but openly saying that Will's obsessed when the only "evidence" supporting that is that he goes to visit Abigail a lot (he killed her father, the fact that he's keeping tabs on her while she's in a coma doesn't automatically make him obsessed, Alana!) instead of "It's probably a bad idea for the guy who shot her dad to be the first person she discusses this with" feels a bit... not great. Also, while Jack is being a massive asshole by deciding that immediately after Abigail wakes up is a great time to make Will go interrogate her about her father's murders and Alana slapping that down is fantastic and I love it, the fact that she doesn't suggest... y'know, asking either Will or Abigail about it does bother me a little. Jack doesn't give a shit about pesky things like people's right to choose to do what's best for them personally instead of The Greater Good and Hannibal wants to make Will more unstable, but I feel like Alana at least should've said "Hey, why don't we ask the people who'll actually be impacted by this about it instead of making decisions for them without even telling them we're doing it?"

Also, once again, because I do in fact have to talk about this every time: Alana just... shows up. At Will's house. Uninvited. Early enough that he's just letting the dogs out and also isn't dressed, so probably pretty fucking early. Having not so much as called ahead. And (while we don't see her arrive so don't know when she got there) was just standing on his lawn when he opened the door. And shows zero indication that she's aware that that's a fucking weird thing to do, especially given she could've just called him to tell him Abigail was awake; we know they both have phones! There is just... a complete lack of consideration for Will's comfort in that! Anyone even vaguely acquainted with Will would know that someone just showing up at his house would not be welcome even at a more reasonable hour for visiting, and there's no indication he ever gave her special permission to do so; he's clearly uncomfortable when she's just there without so much as a warning, and she either misses that or ignores it. I really do get the sense that Alana thinks that wanting to be Will's friend or even being Will's friend means she's somehow exempt from the boundaries he has with other people, and there's just no reason to think that that's the case. I can't help but compare it with Hannibal, who actually does end up exempt from a lot of Will's boundaries (Will makes eye contact with him a lot more, allows him a lot closer, allows a lot more physical contact...); the difference is that that's a development on both sides and Will shows no discomfort with it, while Alana seems to have just... decided that nothing she does makes Will uncomfortable even though things like her showing up at his house uninvited clearly do.

Hello everyone,, so this is just a little post about some murders from Hannibal for @onabikaa :)

CW for fire, nudity, blood, gore, and disturbing imagery. Mild spoilers for Hannibal season 1 - I've tried not to spoil anything major, though.

So, those murders are from season 1, specifically Episode 5 and Episode 8. Also, I hate to be the one to break it to you but neither Will nor Hannibal are responsible for the murders talked about in this post - season 1 consists of Will acting as a special FBI agent who is assigned to help solve the crimes, and these are the crimes of two murderers who he has been tasked to find. Hannibal does kill in season one, but the majority of his victims are beautifully disguised atop dinner plates instead of being outright displayed in some sort of messed-up art installation, if you know what I mean.

However, this does not mean that the other murderers in season 1 are insignificant. Hannibal is an excellent show because these murderers and their efforts are able to reflect or bring light to the current state the main characters. For example, in episode 5, the Angel-Maker's relationship to his ex-wife relates to the relationship between Jack Crawford and his own wife, and this helps Jack realize some things about his marriage. Overall, it all goes back to the main characters and their relationships with one another (and themselves).

Anyways. Let's look over the murders, shall we?

S01 E05 - The Angel-Maker

The Angel-Maker's moniker reflects his act of removing the skin of his victim's backs and creating 'wings'. Each of his murders are quite striking, and I've included the two that aren't really spoilers (in my opinion).

In the murder pictured above, the investigators discover that the Angel-Maker actually slept in the bed after arranging his victims in this manner. Will believes that this is because the Angel-Maker is afraid of dying in his sleep, and thus made 'angels' to watch over him.

What's interesting to note is that the Angel-Maker was not a religious man. The reason he made angels to watch over him was because of a near-death experience as a child, after which a fireman told him that he must have had a guardian angel looking after him.

The Angel-Maker is, like most of the murderers in the show, mentally unstable. However, his instability is a result of an illness that is killing him slowly. This illness impacts his brain, which in turn causes him to hallucinate. There's an element of dramatic irony as we, the audience, learn who the angel maker is before the characters do. We see the Angel-Maker pick out his victims, who are shown as people with flaming heads. These flaming heads, like the angels, relate back to his childhood experience.

An example of a flaming head is pictured below.

The Angel-Maker only kills those whose heads he sees on fire. Again, although he was not considered religious, later on it is revealed that he has only killed those who have 'sinned' - either by murdering a person or committing some sort of immoral crime.

Once the angel-maker is found by the police, Will thinks that, if he were to meet the Angel-Maker, then he would see Will's head in flames.

S01 E08 - Trombone Player Murder

I can't say much about this one because a LOT of it veers into spoiler territory, but as you know, neither Will nor Hannibal killed this man (a trombone player, hence the name I've given his murder).

This murder is one of the most important ones in season 1 though, because the murderer knows Hannibal and has discovered a few of his secrets.

Like Hannibal, this murderer was at first content with using his kills in a practical and disguised manner. However, after learning of Hannibal's existence, he grew interested in Hannibal, as both of them are similar. One could say that this murder was an act of showing off for Hannibal, so he could learn that him and the murderer were alike.

The murderer himself is highly skilled in making instruments, which allowed for him to be able to pull of the logistics of this murder. The victim's vocal cords are intended to produce sound when played - this is shown in the second image where Will is in the mind of the murderer and is playing the victim as the murderer would.

This may be the only murder that the murderer got to display, but it's a worthwhile legacy due to the chilling intricacy of the piece.

1. What are some of your favorite shows/movies?

Some of my favorite shows are: The Vampire Diaries, House MD, Interview with the Vampire,Greys Anatomy, Tell Me Lies, Criminal Minds and Hannibal. Lengthy list LOL.

2.What are your favourite books?

I only started reading books less than a year ago so I haven’t read much and nothing amazing really LOL. So this list is embarrassing to say the least BUT I’m working on it!! I’m a big fan of the “The Hunger Games” books, “The Serpent and the Wings of Night”, and ngl the first acotar book LOL.

3. What about movies?

I’m not huge on movies (more of a show person) but “The Hunger Games” movies have a very special place in my heart. A few of the marvel movies as well, specifically “Spider-man: No Way Home” and “Captain America and The Winter Soldier.”

4. Why is Tamcien your favourite ship over other ACOTAR ships?

Ok this this is something I can ramble about hehe. I absolutely love how complicated their relationship is and how despite everything they’re still trying to make it work. like the odds are completely against them but they refuse to let go of one another. They clearly hold so much love for each other and the amount of loyalty Lucien specifically has towards Tamlin just does something to me. I genuinely view them as two ppl who cannot exist without the other (and there’s a slightly toxic element to this which i thoroughly enjoy. SUE ME). I also love all the history they have together and how that history shows as they interact and when they talk about each other. They simply know the other person like the back of their hand. They need each other.

5. Do you ship Tamlin with other characters? What about Lucien?

I ship these two with half of the damn characters 😭. Tamsand/ Tamris/ Feylin. Elucien/ Luzriel/Lucnes. I’m a multishipper to my coreee.

6. Who are your non-ACOTAR otps?

I had to dig DEEP to remember some of these. Dazai/ Chuuya from BSD, Childe/Zhongli from Genshin Impact, Dabi/Shigaraki from MHA, Stefan/ Elena, Klaus/Caroline, Captain America/ Bucky (omg??? i’m unlocking memories), Levi/Erwin from AOT.

Any scenario in which Tamlin shifts into a female or he shifts Lucien into a female and they have very hot sex 😄.The smut would be outrageously hot like walk with me here.

Good dialogue/banter!! Especially when it comes to characters like Lucien who have that sort of witty personality and comebacks. I love tension, whether it’s sexual or not. I want to be gnawing at my screen when I’m reading. Like fully giggling and kicking my feet. Or screaming and crying.
