Wingmen - Five x Reader
Word count: 1 713
Summary: Five’s brothers try to set him up with the beautiful server in Griddy’s Donuts
“Come on, were seventeen now, you can’t tell me you’ve never even had a crush on anyone,” Klaus exclaims, flinging his feet onto the table.
“He’s right, Five,” Luther agrees, “It does sound kind of odd.”
“Maybe I’m aromantic,” Five suggests calmly, poking the glaze of his untouched donut.
“Yeah, maybe you are, but… I don’t think so,” Diego agrees with his brothers.
“I mean, Luther obviously has a crush on Allison,” Ben continued the discussion, brushing Klaus’ feet off the table. “Diego totally has a thing for that girl scout, who always sells the cookies down the street from the academy,” Diego protested under his breath, but kept quiet otherwise, “Klaus has made out with three different people, and that was last month alone,”
“Does that count though,” Five jumped in.
“It does have a romantic component,” Klaus defended, “the acceptation that something like true love doesn’t exist, and still chasing the fleeting feeling of sharing the breath of another-“
“And even I’ve gotten my heart broken,” Ben continued as if he had not been interrupted at all.
Five sighed, knowing that his brothers, once again, were unstoppable in their mission of getting him into trouble.
His eyes wandered over to the young person who was standing behind the counter of the donut shop. They were hardly older than him, if at all, and wore the pink apron with the logo of the shop.
It was Tuesday night, and the brothers had stolen away softly, after Mom had checked on them for the night. It was not the first time they had done that, and most of the times their sisters were with them as well, but Vanya had insisted she wanted to play some violin, and Allison had an audition tomorrow morning, so she had declined the boys’ offer to join them. Now the five of them were sitting in a booth at their favorite donut shop. It was sparely visited at this time of day, or rather night, and the young person who was currently working to clean the coffee machine, was the only employee of the evening.
“Sooo, what is your type,” Luther asked, reminding Five not to stare at the person across the room.
“What?”
“Your type, what do you like about girls,” Luther continued.
“Or boys,” Klaus added.
“Or boys, yes,” Luther corrected himself.
“I- I don’t have a type,” Five answered, looking bewildered at his brothers.
“Come on,” Diego groaned, “What do you think is attractive? Long hair, short hair, dark hair, light hair, brown eyes, green eyes, blue eyes, curls, bangs-“
“I can describe a person very well on my own, thank you,” Five hissed, resisting the urge to look across the room again.
“So?” Ben leant forward, as if he expected Five to share a secret with them.
“I don’t have a type,” Five shrugged, leaning back, finally taking a bite out of his donut, and chewing contently on the sugary treat.
“Can I get you guys anything else?”
Your sweet voice made Five’s head shoot around, before he realized that this might give away his little crush on you, which he did his best to conceal in front of his brothers. But he felt like he was doing a terrible job.
“Can I have one more of the chocolate donuts,” Ben asked, and you nodded while collecting the empty plates.
“And I’ll take the trippy-est donut you have,” Klaus added, making everyone at the table roll their eyes.
“Sure, any preference?”
“Surprise me, darling,” Klaus winked, making Five clench his fist under the table.
“Of course, sweetheart,” you answered, making the last word drip with venom, so that the boys’ eyes widened with surprise, but Five felt a sense of pride flood through his veins as he glanced at Klaus’ sour expression due to his failed flirting attempt, glad that you were standing up for yourself.
“Coffe for me, black,” Five ordered, finally making you look at him.
Your eyes were shining mysteriously in the cold neon lights of the shop, and you were tired; Five could tell, but he did not mention it.
“It’s pretty late already, you shouldn’t drink coffee this late,” you told him, looking down on the sitting teenager.
Five held your stare challengingly, as if he expected to change your words by looking at your wonderful eyes, but you did not blink and did not turn away, so he dropped his gaze again.
“A strawberry milkshake then,” he gave in, much to the surprise of his siblings.
“Great, anything else?”
When none of the boys spoke up, you skipped away, back behind the counter to prepare the order.
“Well maybe we should try the server for Five, you know, as a little exercise,” Diego suggested, wiggling his eyebrows at Five.
“Forget it,” he hissed.
“No, I think Diego has a good point,” Luther agreed.
“You like ‘em, ey,” Ben asked grinning, kicking Five’s leg under the table, “No wonder, they’re real pretty,”
“I don’t,” Five defended, a little too quickly maybe.
“Whatever, here they come,” Klaus giggled, and nodded into your direction, as you were approaching the table again, balancing two plates with the donuts, and Five’s milkshake.
“We only had heart-sprinkles left, sorry,” you apologized as you placed down the pink drink in front of the time and space travelling superhero.
“It’s fine,” Five shrugged, hoping, praying, his brothers would have the decency not to try anything.
“One chocolate donut,” you continued setting out the plates for Ben and Klaus, Klaus receiving a donut with bright purple icing and a mix of neon colored sprinkles on top, “and the trippy-est one I could find. Enjoy.”
You had just turned your back to them, when Diego spoke up, making Five wanting to punch him immediately.
“Hey, we were wondering- you know our brother here is a little on the shy side,” he wrapped his arm around Five’s shoulders as you turned back, “and you know, he quiet seems to like you,” Five tried to shake off the arm around his shoulder, but Diego had taken a hold on his shirt, “so we thought maybe you would like to get to know him a little better?”
Five felt the heat rise into his cheeks but it was more of anger than embarrassment. His brothers truly were idiots.
“He’s a really nice guy you know,” Luther added, making you raise your eyebrows.
“A little headstrong sometimes,” Klaus explained.
“But all in all really sweet,” Ben finished.
The four brothers were looking up at you expectantly, while Five still stared at the floor in annoyance.
“I’m- Actually… I’m flattered, but actually I’m already in a relationship, sorry,” you answered, your voice sounding ever so sweetly in Five’s ears.
“Oh,” came the collective disappointment from his brothers, while you turned your back again and walked to the counter to check up on a truck driver who had just finished a cup of coffee.
Not long after, the Hargreeves boys payed and made their way homewards.
“I’m gonna go home,” Five declared, still too annoyed with his brothers to suffer through their company all the way home. “See you later.”
They did not try to stop him, knowing that he was mad at them for embarrassing him in front of you, so they just watched as he disappeared with a blue flash of light.
Behind the diner you were sitting on the old car seats, breathing in the fresh air after having had to smell the sugar of the donuts the whole evening. Suddenly there was a blue lightning right next to you, and out of nowhere Five appeared at your side, leaning back into the soft fabric of the seats.
“Sorry for my brothers,” he groaned, rubbing his face in annoyance.
You giggled quietly.
“Imagine the trouble I could have gotten you into if I had agreed to ‘get to know you’”, you laughed, drawing quotation marks into the air.
“I would’ve killed you,” Five glared at you.
“You could have tried,” you winked at him, which made his heart beat ten thousand times faster.
“What was that with the coffee, by the way,” he inquired, taking the donut you were holding out of your hand and took a bite, before handing it back to you.
“I’m concerned for your well-being,” you explained, giggling at his stone cold expression, taking a big bite of the donut yourself.
“Yeah, right,” he murmured, leaning his head to the side and resting his forehead against the side of your shoulder.
“All the caffeine isn’t good for your body,” you insisted, making him roll his eyes.
“All the heart racing every time I see you isn’t good for my body either, yet here I am,” he replied, deeply inhaling the scent that streamed off your clothes.
“One addiction in your life is enough,” you answered, shrugging lightly.
“Is it?  And what is yours,” Five questioned, lifting his head and looking at you.
“You,” you smirked, making Five’s heart jump.
“Fair enough,” Five agreed and leant forward, pressing a kiss to your lips, quickly and sweetly, “should I get you home?”
“You are an angel,” you sighed, relieved that you did not have to walk.
“Ask my family, they probably have a different opinion on that matter.”
Both of you got up and Five took your hands in his, creating blue lightning before both of you materialized in front of your parents’ house.
“You know, I was thinking,” you spoke, “Next time your siblings and you are in the shop, we should just be ourselves.”
You turned around to the door, and unlocked it.
“What do you mean?”
“Hold hands, kiss, what we always do,” you explained, turning around to your boyfriend.
“Show them that we’re together,” Five asked, raising his eyebrows, trying to imagine the scenario.
“Exactly, we’re seventeen, we’re old enough to be in a relationship” you grinned, “can you imagine their faces?”
You leant forward and gently placed your lips on Five’s. He immediately melted into the kiss, like he always did. His hands wrapped around yours, holding onto you. When he pulled away, he narrowed his eyes, trying to picture his siblings’ reaction if they were to witness a moment like this between Five and you.
“No, I really can’t imagine their faces.”
