You're a slut for backstory, huh?
You Can't Run Away- Part 2
Part 1 here!!
"Ralph Bohner" x Reader
Summary: The plot thickens!! It was supposed to be simple. Save Peter and get out. However, being under the control of two different witches affected your multiversal powers. Thankfully Peter is now "awake", however, he won't leave your side.
Also known as I try to fix Marvel's weird ass left open is he or isn't he Ralph Bohner storyline.
[Most just light angst and fluff]
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
"Mutant, I know her, well used to. Apparently Wanda isn't the only one breaking through the multiverse." Peter explains quietly to Jimmy.
"You mean she can create portals to other wor-"
"-she needs to be in witness protection with me, Jimmy." Peter cuts him off quickly.
You had risked so much to break through the multiverses strict hold, and all for what?
Him?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You blink up at the harsh white florescent lights burning your eyes from above head. When you move to roll over, you unintentionally groan quietly in pain at the soreness rooted in your muscles.
Your eyes protest at staying open under the bright lights, so you move to rub your hand over your eyes, but wince at the uncomfortable tug from your inner arm. Squinting down, you notice the IV connecting you to the IV bag. Easily giving up, you drop your arm back on top of the scratchy (what you assumed to be) hospital sheets surrounding your form. Moving to lift your other hand, you struggle at the heaviness of it before glancing over to figure out what else happened while you were asleep.
It was not what you expected.
Never in a million years would you guess the reason you couldn't lift up your hand was because of Peter Maximoff's big head weighing it down. His forehead was pressed against your open palm as he slept hunched over from the uncomfortable looking chair at the side of your bed.
Peter's silver hair was tussled and messy as he snored quietly, barely noticeable if he wasn't so close to you. It was almost endearing seeing him this way until you remembered what happened and why you were here.
You jerk your hand out from under Peter's head, watching as he jerks to sit up straight, wide eyes meeting yours.
"Hey, you're awake! How are you feeling? I'm go get the doc." Peter babbled before hopping up and speeding away, returning back to his chair in less than a second.
"Peter," You start, his rich brown eyes concerned as they meet yours," We need to go..."
Peter sighs heavily, running his hand through his shiny locks, then reaches out to place his hand over yours, "We can't just run away from all of this Y/n."
"It's not running away, we don't belong here. This is the wrong universe- we don't belong here."
"We? We never belonged there anyway." Peter exclaims before scoffing and elaborating," You can't act like you don't know what I'm talking about either. Everyone avoids us, Y/n, no matter how hard we try to fit in we can't... But here? I was wanted here. I have my twin. We could do something amazing if we stay."
"We are not a we anymore, Peter. There's nothing for me here." You state as calmly as you could, slowly standing up and trying to focus on creating the portal back to your universe.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you."
Damn it, you mentally groan.
Dr. Strange was already there, mansplaining," You'll drain yourself too much, which could be fatal, Y/n. Agatha's spells greatly affected you within the Hex while you were with Peter. Even if you did make it back, you wouldn't make it to where you left, you would be in the future. Get-"
"Then how did I manage to get here, since this is the future?" You question him, turning to face him as he stood in the doorway.
"I presumed Wanda unintentionally helped you, however, going to the future is far easier than going to the past. The past is like stone while the future is like clay; still moldable."
You nod slowly, it made some sort of sense. But now you were stuck here. With your ex-boyfriend no less.
"Get some rest while I continue to work with Wanda on trying to get you back. Peter." Dr. Strange nods at him, an unspoken look shared between the two men before Strange literally vanished in front of your eyes.
"..What did you mean, there's nothing for you here? I'd be here, Y/n..." Peter trails off, and you can feel his stare on you as you sit back on the bed.
"You know what I meant." You sigh tiredly and half in annoyance.
"Stop lying to me, you kissed me back... You want me just as much as I want you.. Whether you admit it or not." Peter smirks half heartedly at you from the uncomfortable chair.
He looked was tired, exhausted even, which was highly unusual for a restless speedster. You could tell because Peter would never half heartedly tease you like this unless he was tired. That as well as the dark bags under his eyes made it pretty clear too.
"How long was I asleep, Peter?" You ask, feeling like you already knew the reason to Peter's exhaustion.
"Uhmmm.. about a week, I think..." Peter mumbles, rubbing at the back of his neck before yawning.
"You look like you haven't slept in a week, speedy." You tell him quietly.
"Well, probably cause I haven't." Peter chuckles, leaning back in the hard chair," I've been waiting on you to wake up. Hard to sleep when the person I love is hooked up to so many annoying machines."
You can't help but smile at him. Even still, Peter was the sweetest guy you'd ever met.
"Aweee, little miss grouchy pants is smiling~" He teases, leaning forward with his elbow on your bed and you roll your eyes at his teasing.
"Shut up." You huff, trying to hide your smile.
"No, I don't think I will. You try to act all tough and that you don't need anybody, but here you are. Moving through the multiverse for me and saving me. Even though then I had to save you..."
"You're so dramatic, it's not a big deal.." You try to brush off his words as he continues to lean in closer to you.
"If it wasn't a big deal, you wouldn't be here right now." Peter whispers hushedly, inches away from your face.
You reach up and cup his cheeks as he smiles at you.
"Maybe you're right Maximoff..." You whisper before leaning up and brushing your lips against his.
"I was so worried about you," Peter whispers against your lips then captures them in a swift kiss.
"I'm okay Peter." You assure him quietly and then return his kiss with one of your own.
You break from his lips, panting softly, trying to catch your breath.
"Cuddle with me?" You question softly, watching as a grin spread over his lips.
"You wanna cuddle with Mr. Bohner?"
"Not anymore," You laugh as the smirk falls from his lips, but he climbs in beside you anyway, strong arms easily pulling you into his chest.
"I can't believe you picked Ralph Bohner as your name for witness protection." You tease him, poking at the cute pout on his lips as you lay half on his chest.
"I think its a great name." Peter hums, cuddling his face into your pillow, smiling at you. "So we're gonna stay?"
"Well, I can't run away..." You whisper, returning his smile as you lean into peck his lips.
"Good because I'm exhausted, babe." Peter yawns once again before snuggling closer to you and you fell asleep cuddling Mr. Bohner.
This is for the prompt thing! #61 with modern reader, maybe Arthur finds a way back to his family (he comes to the future/out of the game idk u decide) angst but maybe a happy ending? Or not I'm just ready to bawl my eyes out either way. (I love ur writing by the way, you are one of my favs on here 💖)
Oof ya gotta hit me with them feels nonny? Number 61:
So this is more of a “what if?” rather than a “canon” part of the modern!reader series since it doesn’t necessarily fit with any other part of the story.
A door opening aroused you from your light slumber. Blinking your eyes open, noting Arthur had walked in. “Good morning.” you rasped, yawning widely as you sat up. As the bleariness cleared from your vision, you realized he’d been wearing something different.
Not that it was unfamiliar to you, as you recognized it as his default outfit from the game. Not any of the clothes you’d bought him, or the outfit you’d personally picked out in gameplay prior to his arrival.
Curiosity spiked. “Uh, where’d that come from?”
He glanced at himself before looking to you. “You ain’t gonna believe this.”
The last of the morning tiredness had dissolved. You swung your legs over and stood up. “Believe what?”
“I…” he paused, looking own as if he were searching for words. “I found my way back to my…my own time.”
His own time. The words didn’t seem to process correctly in your mind. “What?”
“My own time,” he repeated. “My life before…here.”
Somehow that sentence hit you like a ton of bricks. He’d been here, living with you, for several months now. He showed up with no rhyme nor reason for his existence in this world, no indication of what brought him here, and nothing to ever send him back.
And now, after all this time, he found a way back.
“How?”
He shook his head. “Can’t even tell ya how. I went to go to the bathroom. Opened the door n’…I was back in Shady Belle.”
You gave him a look of confusion. “You sure it wasn’t a dream?” you asked, unable to believe your bathroom door had suddenly become a portal to his world.
“Wouldn’t be wearin’ this if I was, Y/N.” Arthur pointed out, holding his arms in a gesture to himself.
Right… you approached him slowly, your stomach churning as you gazed at him from head to toe. You had to make sure you weren’t dreaming yourself. You reached out, feeling the worn fabric underneath your fingertips. His skin was damp from sweat, a slightly gritty texture of dirt to accompany it. At this time of year it would be impossible from how cold and dry it was.There was a slight swampy smell to him, along with a faint tinge of gunpowder, further solidifying his claim. “You really did find your way back.” you said breathlessly.
“Still dunno how I did,” he chuckled slightly. “Kinda amazed that it happened.”
You met his eyes, noting the tinge of excitement on his face. “What did you do?” you casually asked.
“Walked ‘round a bit, saw everyone…spoke to them. Carried on like normal, as if I was never gone,” he said with a sigh. “Rode around, did some things. Came back when it got dark, now I’m back here.”
“How did you come back?”
“Same way I got there…jus’ opened the door,” he answered. “Didn’t work when I tried again after.”
Your stomach churned, a question looming in your head that you didn’t want to ask. “Did you…want to come back here?” you murmured, your voice sounding detached from yourself.
He looked at you, his blue eyes dark and guarded. “Uh…”
The hesitation, the look of his face. Your heart sank. “You didn’t.” you said, more as a statement than a question.
“No!” he exclaimed, holding out his hands as if you hold you. “I mean-yes. ‘Course I wanted to come back, but-”
“Your family, right?” you finished dejectedly, stepping out of his reach and tearing your gaze away to stare at the floor, wrapping your arms around yourself. Your heart beat painfully beneath your ribcage.
You heard him sigh once more. “You know I missed ‘em, Y/N.”
“I know,” you mumbled, turning away to walk back over to your bed, sitting on the edge. “I can’t compete with the people who raised you for the majority of your life.”
Footsteps followed you across the room, the mattress sinking as he sat next to you. Refusing to look at him, you stared out the window.
“Y/N…”
You remained silent.
“Y/N, look at me.” his tone was soft, yet pleading.
Slowly, you turned to fix your attention to him.
“I love you, you know that.” he whispered, taking your hand in his own, entwining your fingers together.
“I love you too,” you replied, your voice cracking slightly as your emotion threatened to break the thin control you had. “but I told you not to fall in love with me.”
“I know,” he rumbled, squeezing your hand. “In case somethin’ like this happened.”
You didn’t speak for a moment, contemplating your next words. What would happen after this? Would Arthur return to his world for good? You didn’t want to ask, afraid of what the answer would be. However, you knew the smart option would be to ask anyway. You took a deep breath and mustered up the courage. “What do you want to do?”
He peered down at you, a look of contemplation crossing his face. “I don’t wanna leave you, Y/N.”
“But you want to be with your family.” you stated quietly.
“I do,” he sighed. “More than anything.“
You fell silent again, detecting the inner turmoil that took hold of him. You knew you couldn’t force him to stay. And despite all the happiness between the two of you, he was an outlaw at heart.
Still, the thought of him leaving was like ice gripping your insides. You’d be alone, nothing but your memories and the game itself to remember him by. That is, if you could ever find yourself playing the game afterward. Your vision blurred as tears began to fill your eyes.
“Maybe it ain’t the best idea.”
You blinked in surprise, rubbing your eyes for a moment. “What?”
“We know what happens,” he continued. “to others, to me. I ain’t sure if I can change that.”
It took a moment to realize what he was referring to. Those times where you found him playing the game, going on as himself as he further progressed along his own storyline. It’d been a while since he touched the game after the diagnosis of his Tuberculosis, having suffered the same ailment as his game counterpart. Though he was treated with antibiotics, you both knew it would be impossible in-game.
“So, you’re not leaving?” you asked, your heart hammering once again.
“I can’t,” he responded. “Not when I got you here.” he raised your hand to his mouth to place a kiss upon it.
A twinge of bewilderment clouded your mind. “You make it sound like I’m forcing you to stay.”
“‘Course not,” he shook his head. “But it ain’t fair to up and leave you, after all this time. Took me in when I had nowhere else to go. Showed me livin’ a normal life ain’t bad. And showed me love.”
A smile slowly appeared across your face as a rise of emotion bloomed in your chest. “How else am I supposed to take care of an 1800′s outlaw that just showed up randomly in my home?” you lightly joked, though your voice wavered.
He chuckled in response. “And for that I’m always grateful.” he reached over with his other hand to wipe a stray tear that escaped your eye.
Smile widening, you pulled him into a tight hug. His arms wrapped around you, squeezing you to his torso. You buried you face into his shoulder, enjoying his musk and the smell of nature that trapped within his clothes. Though the slight stick of his sweaty skin was left to be desired.
“I think you need to shower.” you said lightly, leaning back to look at him.
He scoffed. “Well, least I know the bathroom’s back to normal.” he laughed. With his arms still around you, he hoisted you up with ease before standing up, carrying you towards the bathroom.
Finding Home- A Neverland One-Shot
Title: Finding Home Request: Hey I was wondering if you could make a story for me? I'm asking you and a couple of other authors because I want to see what different twists and spins you will do for the story. Anyways I was hoping the reader could be the spirit of neverland (the true ruler of neverland ) and runs into felix and eventually the fall in love and it'd a little lemony and the hourglass is not neverland's magic but peter's and that's why Henry comes into the island? Thanks. Pairing: Felix x Reader AN: I found the request to be a bit confusing so the storyline may not match it exactly. I hope you enjoy it still! Also this isn't for Pan fans, I portrayed him a bit differently and some things happen...but you can read if you want to know more!
"I can't be on this ship anymore." Y/N thought to herself. She was stuck on a trading ship, hiding in a small box alone. She had no idea where she was going, Y/N did not really have a home. At first she thought hoping on the ship would be a good idea, yet it turned out to be the opposite of that. It was the middle of the night now, and she got out of the box and headed to the side of the ship. "Here goes nothing." Y/N said. She then jumping into the ocean, and starting swimming.
After swimming for about twenty minutes, a storm starting slamming down on the sea. The waves pushed Y/N under the water over and over, her energy being taken from her as quickly as the waves rose up. She was knocked out, floating down in the water with no idea of if she would survive.
When she woke up, Y/N found herself on an island. "Oh thank god." she said, standing up. The moment she stood up, the island started shaking. "Oh come on!" she yelled. Once the island stopped, she decided to walk into the forest to see what she could find.
She barely got half a mile into the forest until a group of boys found her. "Hi?" she asked them. "Who are you?" one of them asked. "My name's Y/N, I got washed up here during a storm." she responded, "I'm not looking for any trouble, I promise." "You can't leave here." one boy added. "Why?" Y/N asked. "When you got here, the island started to shake. That is the sign that the true ruler of the island is here." the same boy explained. "Woa...I'm not the ruler type." Y/N laughed, "That can't be true." "It is." the boy said, "Our leader Peter didn't come to find you because he knows it's true." "Please stay!" one boy cried, he seemed to be the youngest there, "Peter's evil! We need you! He's got a boy that he kidnapped!" Y/N felt bad for the boys, this Peter person seemed to really have a bad effect on them. "Fine." Y/N said. "Welcome to your island, Y/N, Neverland. I'm Felix." the older boy smile. "Hi." Y/N smiled back. "I'll take you to our camp. Peter isn't gonna be happy." Felix said. "Yea probably not. Especially if he's really how you say he is." Y/N said.
At the base camp of Neverland, Y/N and Peter came face to face. "You must be the 'true leader' the boys were mumbling about." Peter snarled, "Don't try to take this island from me. It is mine and always will be." "Where's this kid you kidnapped that Felix and the boys were talking about?" Y/N asked. "None of your business." Peter responded. He then turned to Felix, "Show her to her tent." "He's a nice one." Y/N chucked to Felix. "I know right." Felix responded.
Inside her tent, Y/N and Felix sat talking. "So do you want to help us?" Felix asked her. "I can try." Y/N responded, "I don't really have a home, and if what you say is true this could be my home. We just have to get Peter out the picture." "That's not going to be easy. He's got magic. That's what he's using the boy, Henry, for." Felix said. "The boy he kidnapped?" Y/N asked. Felix nodded, "Yep. He's going to kill him and use his heart to strengthen his magic and the magic of the island. If Peter dies, the magic of the island dies. But you're here, the island wouldn't loose its magic if you were in charge." "So I've got to kill Peter..." Y/N said. "Yea." Felix responded. "We can't just waltz out there and kill him so soon!" Y/N said. "I know! It's going to take a while. But I'll help you. The island will work in your favor." Felix told her. "I hope you're right Felix." Y/N sighed.
For almost three months, Y/N and Felix watched Peter's every move. They learned his exact schedule, when he went to sleep, when he woke up. He hadn't done anything to Henry, yet at least. Y/N and Felix knew the magic was draining and Peter would kill Henry any day now. "We've got to do it now." Y/N told Felix one night. "Are you sure?" he responded. Y/N nodded, "I can feel it. We can do it." "Of course we can, you can do anything. You're amazing, I love you." Felix said. "You what?" Y/N asked. "I said you're amazing. I love...food." Felix said, his cheeks turning red. "Felix you love me?" Y/N asked. He nodded slowly, "I'm sorry I didn't want that to come out this way." "No, no it's ok." Y/N smiled, "I love you too. Together we can do this." Felix smiled back at her, and leaned in to kiss her. As they kissed, the island starting to shake. "I think the island says it's time." Felix laughed. Y/N grabbed his hand, "Let's do this."
They waited until Peter went to sleep, and grabbed a bottle of sleeping powder. Slowly, they went inside his tent. Y/N went over by his head and sprinkled the power on him, causing him to go into a deep sleep. Yet the powder didn't leave full effects on Peter. He was asleep for a moment, but quickly woke up. "What are you doing?" he exclaimed, using his magic to throw Y/N and Felix backward. "I'm taking this island from you. You aren't what this place needs! They need me!" Y/N exclaimed, "I am the true ruler of Neverland!" With those words, the island knew Y/N was sure she wanted to take over. The ground started to shake for the third time. "I know I should have gotten rid of you the first time I saw you!" Peter exclaimed. He formed a ball of magic in his hands, ready to throw it at Y/N. Yet the ground opened up, and seemed to suck him down inside. As the opening closed, Peter deep down inside, the island stopped shaking. "Did we do it?" Felix asked. "I don't know." Y/N responded. She started to feel weird after that, as if now her body was shaking. "What's happening?" she asked, looking at her arms. She started to light up. "The magic of the island is going into you." Felix smiled. After the light went away from Y/N it was sunny outside and the birds started to chirp. "You did it." Felix said. Y/N and Felix left Peter's tent, and all the lost boys charged to hug them both. "To our leader, Y/N!" the youngest yelled. "To Y/N!" the rest of the boys, including Felix, yelled. Felix kissed her forehead, and she said, "Let's go free Henry."
Felix and Y/N, along with the lost boys, found the spot where Henry had been kept. "Ready to go home kid?" Y/N asked him. "Oh thank god." Henry smiled. Y/N freed him, and gave him a magic bean to get home. "I thought I'd be dead before I left here." Henry said. "Peter's dead, gone forever. He can't hurt you anymore. You're always welcome back here." Y/N told him. "Thank you." Henry smiled, "I can't wait to get home." He then created a portal, and went back home. "Speaking of home, boys this is our home, my home too." Y/N smiled. Felix grabbed her waist, "Home together." She giggled, and kissed him, causing all the lost boys to let out one big "Ew!" "Oh get used to it!" Felix laughed. "Come on boys guys, let's go back to camp. I think a party would be a good fit for the rest of the day?" Y/N asked. "Yea!" they all yelled. Y/N took Felix by the hand, and they all walked back to camp, walked back home.
Bunny reviews: Stardew Valley
***WARNING: STARDEW VALLEY SPOILERS AHEAD***
I started playing Stardew Valley one rainy Sunday last October. Outside my apartment it was stormy and bleak, the last dregs of summer disappearing in the cold. In the opening storyline of the game, I watched my character, a little 8-bit cartoon in overalls and pigtails, at her grandfather’s deathbed. “There will come a day when you feel crushed by the burden of modern life,” he says. “And your bright spirit will fade below a growing emptiness.” Oh no, I thought, feeling punched in the throat. My grandmother, who I shared a bunk bed with for almost a decade of my life, had just died in Shanghai; I’d seen her emaciated body in the hospital only a few weeks before. And I’d felt crushed by the burden of modern life literally every day since moving to New York. I felt stupidly, wildly seen.
In the game, my dying grandpa gave me an envelope with a deed to a plot of land in a village far away. My character quit her desk job at a soul-sucking corporation, boarded a bus, and moved to the village. And so began my new life.
It’s hard to describe the appeal of Stardew Valley without sounding like you’ve fallen into a cult of delusion. You plant potatoes and harvest them; you tend to your chickens and cows. You learn real-life pasturing techniques to manage your farm! You fall in love with the village artist, Leah, a redheaded sculptor whose favorite food is Vegetable Medley; then, you change your mind and begin to pursue Sebastian, a moody, sensitive programmer. “I just don’t want to be part of the corporate rat race, you know?” he says. You swoon. You follow him around and give him sashimi out of your pocket twice a week. You have your first kiss under the full moon overlooking the city from which you both escaped, after he sweeps you away on his motorcycle. Suddenly, you realize you can make the whole village fall in love with you. You go ham.
Tumblr media
For the first 80 or 90 hours I played this game, I did not rely on guides online to help me optimize my gameplay. As such, my farm organization was a disaster and nobody liked me. (I gave Leah an Ice Cream I bought and actually felt hurt when she said she hated it.) My friend who had already had his Stardew Valley phase asked to see my farm, and I watched his eager expression freeze as I proudly showed him my hideous farm overgrown with weeds and stray rocks, all my collected items shoved into a few identical wooden chests clustered around my cabin.
“I prefer the organic process of figuring things out,” I told him defiantly. “I’m following a Japanese farming philosophy of allowing land to return to its natural state.”
He nodded, barely concealing bewilderment. Then, bored at my own desk job one day, I watched one YouTube video titled “Stardew Valley BEST Farm Layout” and felt a gnawing shame at my ugly, shabby farm as I realized what I could have been doing with my past 90 hours instead.
I started opting out of full-screen mode, so I could play the game with 20 tabs open on stardewvalleywiki dot com. “where is sebastian tuesday winter,” I googled. “stardew valley willy love egg?” I started giving villagers only gifts they loved; I spent weeks doing manual labor -- chopping down trees, hoeing land, building fences, buying lamps -- to redesign my farm. I felt a swell of pride when I grew my first giant pumpkin. And then, I learned every villager’s backstory and started liking even the most annoying ones -- I pelted Shane with Pepper Poppers until he started to open up to me, and I realized he was an asshole because he was clinically depressed. I stopped giving Pam beer because her alcoholism made her daughter Penny unhappy.
Tumblr media
“It’s like you really become part of the community,” I told another friend earnestly, trying to explain my addiction to the Stardew Valley universe. He laughed, then stopped when he saw that I was only half-joking.
From the back cover of one of our Moomin books - “I only want to live, plant potatoes, and dream” - lately Cissy and I have been saying it back and forth to one another with increasing insistence. The society we live in, the life to which we’ve grown desensitized, has been utterly ravaged by late capitalism. Every day in New York, in Midtown, I walk by homeless people shivering in blankets, plastic cups with just a few coins in front of them, businessmen wearing suits and Airpods briskly sidestepping them without ever looking down, surrounded by gleaming skyscrapers full of vacant luxury housing units never meant to house anyone. It’s revolting. It makes me feel physically ill when I think about it for too long. It’s also completely normalized. Every day I feel an existential scarcity from my unwilling participation in the wreckage of our society.
Stardew Valley opens a portal into a different kind of world. My friends and I are always talking about the ideas behind the gameplay -- what if we pooled money, bought a house somewhere far away? What if we created our own community? What if we rejected the structures under late-capitalist city living intended to keep us away from the things that bring meaning to our lives -- love, beauty, art, dreams. In Stardew Valley, you live out a concrete vision of this alternative.
Googling “stardew valley depressed” yields these results:
Tumblr media
There was a two-week period in the fall when Cissy was out of town, and I let days wash by me in bleary four- or five-hour stretches of watering crops, fishing, making friends with villagers. “what’re u doing,” she would text me. “just had dinner! going to the gym now,” I would text back from my bed, a boppy tune called “Spring (Wild Horseradish Jam)” ringing in my ears, before starting a new day in the game.
In year three of the game, your character’s grandfather briefly comes back as a ghost. “You’ve done a good job with the place,” he tells you. You feel, genuinely, a warm glow, as you survey all the work you’ve done on your land and all the villagers you’ve grown to love. I, unbelievably, thought of my own grandmother.
My greatest regret was not getting into it at a time like right now, when I can literally spend all of my time doing nothing at home without feeling like a loser. Not that I ever felt like a loser when I was playing it. I felt like an integral part of another community, and a champion farmer.
Didn’t think I’d have to do this but I’ve got people coming to me left and right over this nonsense, conveying threats to have my work reported and pulled down blah blah blah, so let me summarize my case publicly and let you all make up your own minds.
I’ll start by saying truthfully that I’ve never read TNP. I don’t generally read fics with non-con in them bc of bad past experiences, but from reading the prologue when researching what i supposedly plagiarized the writing seemed really good and enjoyable, with interesting themes and references. I’m sure its a lovely fic and people who enjoy it should as it stands on its own merits.
I also haven’t plagarised anything. There is a lot of he said she said happening over that so I’ll just present the facts I have and let people make up their own minds. So far there’s just been one side of the story very loudly being told. I’ll say my piece here and people can make up their own minds.
So I’ve never read their story. I’ve been getting some nasty harrassment though claiming I plagarised it to write my own story, which is Knowing Me, Knowing You on ao3. It’s a Billford fic, and it’s inspired by abba lyrics, Gravity Falls the series, and Journal Number 3.
Two days ago I got this anonymous comment on my fanfic.
This anonymous poster spammed the comments in the fic in many chapters, and also felt the need to tell everyone who regularly comments on my fic by replying to their comment how shitty my writing is and that it’s plagarising this other fic I’ve never read.
The link to the full comments thread is here if people want to read and do their own sleuthing.
The comments rather spitefully tell me how my writing is terrible, how I’m scum, how unoriginal I am ect. I’ll let you all read it and make up your own minds about whether this is fair to say or not.
I then decided to go speak to the author of this fic i had supposedly plagarised, because I thought it was a misunderstanding, or that a follower of theirs who was very zealous had took it upon themselves to go rogue and harass other writers who (these are the similarities as far as they’ve been explained to me) write Billford, and have written about a human Bill helping Stanford with the portal.
Here is my conversation with the author of TNP, screenshotted, so you can read that and make up your own mind about it too.
It was quite startling for me to have been spoken to like this when I went amicably to a fellow writer hoping to solve a situation that was groundless and unnecessary. I was called a liar, and passive aggressive for having approached the author directly with the situation seeking a resolution.
In an ideal world I would like an apology for this behavior, but I won’t hold my breath, I’m just here to state my case and clear my name.
Tumblr media
This is my fanfiction. It’s 163243 words long as of it’s last update. I started writing it on the last day of January 2017, and since then it has inspired me boundlessly. I get a lot of joy out of writing it, which is clear to see when you look at how quickly I’ve been churning out these words in this small space of time. Three months have gone by and I’m on 18 chapters and it’s been wonderful to write, I’ve had some lovely reviews from folks, and these have been the first negative reviews I have seen for it.
I asked people who have read both of the works, my own and TNP, what the similarities were that led the author to believe I had plagarised.
What I heard as feedback was:
Similarities
Both Billford pairing fanfics
Both involving human Bill
To do with building the portal
Differences:
Storyline
Plot
Character design. My human Bill is black. He’s black, with gold eyes, yellow hair, and gold binding tattoos sewn into his skin. I’ve been told their Bill is italian??? Not sure where the similarities are there.
Dynamic between Bill and Ford (TNP apparently has Bill and Ford sharing the nicknames darling and kitten. Rest assured, through the entirety of my 160,000 word fanfic not once do my Bill or Ford ever call each other anything even remotely resembling ‘darling’ or ‘kitten’ they are more likely to call each other a pain in the ass in my fic)
World building
Characters (mine contains plenty of Fiddleford, Wendy’s mum, who I have called Willow Oakwood bc a lumberjack falls in love with her, Lazy Susan, Keyhole and Amorphous Shape, the paradox buddies, Pyronica and Kryptos on the front lines, Argos Panoptes, Raha Diniero ect)
Sexual content (TNP contains rape and sexual harassment, my work is a slow burn of epic proportions, they only kissed for the first time in my last chapter, and Bill is averse to being touched by Stanford at first. My work also is entirely consensual as I can’t write non-con due to personal experiences)
Key events (my story involves events such as hunting down the gobblewonker with a harpoon, nearly being devoured by the island head monster, going on a double date with lazy suzan and wendy’s mum and raising the undead, giving birth to the summerween trickster, stealing treasure from Quentin Trembley’s grave, a heist at the Cryptix Noire Warping Black Market’s, and Fiddleford’s wife Patricia telling baby Tate to stop crying)
Writing style (My writing is more light hearted, I make lots of jokes because I want to enjoy my own story. I’m told TNP is more serious)
Direction (I do not know where TNP is going, having never read it, but I know my story is going to follow along with canon up to the betrayal, after it, following Ford through the portal, and back out for Weirdmageddon)
Having completed four years of university studying English literature, I’m very aware of how serious plagiarism is, and how seriously allegations of plagiarism need to be taken. If someone’s poured their effort into creating a work, they deserve to be credited for that work, and if a work was created in reference to something else it’s respectful to cite your references. So here are the works I have referenced in order to create this fic.
- Hirsch, A, 2016, Journal 3; Gravity Falls, Disney Press, LA. - Gravity Falls, complete series, 2016, DVD, Disney XD, created by Hirsch, A, et al. - Abba’s complete back catalogue.
I’ve also referenced several Wikipedia pages; the page on black markets, on hyperpyrexia, on Leonardo Da Vinci, on stethoscopes, on Argos Panoptes in Greek Mythology, and the page listing the different planets and races in the entire Star Trek series. I’ve relied on the Gravity Falls wikia to help me maintain accuracy with character names, places, details about the Shack and so on.
I haven’t referenced, nor have I read The Ninth Paradigm. I would have tentatively liked to from reading the synopsis, but I have decided I won’t be reading it any time soon following the conversation I had with the author of the fanfic, which has soured me somewhat from consuming their content.
I work full time, 38 hour work weeks, and run a second job on the side. Something I don’t have time for is drama. I’m quite frankly surprised I even have the time to dedicate to writing this fanfic of mine, but I do, because I love Gravity Falls, I am excited about the story I’m writing, I get to laugh at my own jokes when I’m writing, I get to entertain myself, and in posting this here, hopefully entertain others.
I’m not writing this to impress anyone with my prose or build this fic into anything more than it is, it’s just a bit of fun set to Abba lyrics, inspired by Dipper in the shower singing Disco Girl aka Dancing Queen.
If I were a younger writer, or if I were less confident in myself, this kind of harassment, both in the comments here on ao3, and the conversation I had with the author of TNP when I looked to resolve the situation, would have been incredibly damaging. If I were a younger writer, being harassed, I would find the fandom uninviting, toxic, incredibly discouraging and unhealthy.
Billford as a pairing has a small enough fandom as is, looking through the tag on tumblr, there are anti-shippers adding to that environment of harassment. Adding to that environment of harassment within the fandom can only be damaging. I believe fandoms should encourage writers and content producers, that fandom should be a community where you support one another, and the base content you all enjoyed that brought you all together.
Gravity Falls fans are smart. They followed a quirky, clever, coded show from start to finish and loved every bit of it. I’m presenting the above information here so that you can all make your own minds up about this issue. I think that’s fair.
That’s all I have to say about this issue.
all i know abt transformers is the shia movie and the fact that darren criss plays one in the cartoons i think? should i get into transformers is what i'm asking
Oh god this is my favorite question. I’m not sure how to answer it but its my fave. Pull up a chair. I hope you’ve got some time on your hands.
The short answer: yes. You should at least give it a try. Transformers is a 30+ year old muti-media franchise that gets rebooted almost every 3 years so it basically has something interesting to offer almost any fan. If you end up not liking it that’s cool but there’s a lot to try before you decide.
The long answer is: yes you should and here’s why and here’s a rough idea of all the options you have to sample. I’m about to go on a long rant anon so you can check it out now or later or whatever but I’m just warning you ahead of time.
The basic Transformers plot (which I’m sure you know but I’m gonna go more in depth in a minute) is that a race of giant robot aliens who can turn into vehicles and other things have been engaged in a civil war that has lasted millions of years. This is the basic plot that all tf franchises spawn from although some explore slightly different subject matters. If that doesn’t appeal to you I mean there /might/ be a few other things you might find worth sticking around for because there’s just so fucking much of it, but you’re welcome to turn back now because that’s the basic things tf has to offer: giant robot aliens, cars and planes, fighting, some drama. Those are what tf is best at, with some variation.
It has a very active and long lived fan base and each section of the fan base is interested in different stuff with some crossover. There are people who literally only care about collecting the toys, people who wont try any other series except g1, people who only like the comics, etc. Etc. You’ll probably find people who like what you do pretty readily. If you like the toys there are toy forums and blogs. If you like the cartoons there are forums and blogs made for that too. If you like the comics, same. There’s a pretty active following of the comics and cartoon series on Tumblr alone; I would try searching the #maccadam tag since most tf activity has been moved there since the bay movies came out. Id also use the tf wiki liberally because it has pm all the information you’ll need to know about the fandom and the canon lore. There’s also plenty of fan fiction on Ao3 and ff.net if you’re into that and pm anyplace that hosts fan art has tf fan art.
Now there are several series, including comics, cartoons, the Michael bay films, the cartoon movie, spin off books, and video games. I’m gonna go over my personal favorites because I like and know them best but there are more than these if you’re interested in digging deeper.
(More under the cut)
G1: there are a lot of forms of what fans refer to as Generation 1 or G1 but if you live in the US its likely they’re talking about the very first cartoon series.
Summary: the autobots and the decepticons stripped their planet of resources and went looking for a new planet to continue surviving on. They both crashlanded on earth where they lay dormant for millions of years until conveniently awakened somewhere during the 1980s, where they continue their war all over again
Why you should try it: listen its cheesy as hell and full of nonsense plotlines and animation errors but not only is it good fun but at least watching an episode or two might give you a decent grasp on what spawned this enormous franchise in the first place.
G1 movie: this movie was a game changer. Its technically right in the middle of the g1 cartoon but it works as a standalone film too. while it has many trappings of the cartoon its better animated and has a more consistent and dramatic story.
Summary: Optimus Prime and Megatron fight, OP dies (yes he fucking DIES for the very first time. thousands of 10 year olds bawl their eyes out), Megatron gets mortally wounded, and the Matrix of Leadership (aka an autobot holy item/macguffin [this is the proto-cube btw]) has to choose a new leader.
Why you should try it: decent animation, classics lines, tons of 80s rock music, and it establishes a lot of tf conventions that would be carried over to all series that come after it.
Beast Wars: haha the 90s couldn’t be left out of the transformers fun, now could it? This was one of the first all-cg cartoon series in history and while its not much to look at nowadays, it was a big step in the 90s.
Summary: the series doesn’t center on Optimus Prime and Megatron but their decendants. The war is long over but some factions are starting to clash once again. Several members of these factions do the whole “crash land on earth while fighting” thing except they wake up during times before humans and instead of taking vehicle modes, they take animal forms, thus the name.
Why you should give it a try: it establishes the idea of Sparks for the first time, it has historical significance in the cgi realm, and it has a decent storyline with interesting characters. If you can muscle through the 90s-computer-animation look it might be the show for you!
Transformers: Animated: I dont think its a secret that this is one of my favorite tf series of all times. It was the first cartoon series I ever watched of tf and it also features my favorite toy line.
Summary: Optimus Prime is much less a war hero and more of a ..janitor really. He flunked out of the academy and spends his time repairing space bridges. One time during repairs though, they stumble across the Cube and just their luck, Megatron and some nearby cons are looking for it. They portal away to earth where they, you guessed it, crashland, until they’re awoken sometime in the future and go on adventures in futuristic Detroit.
Why you should give it a try: I like tfa’s art style and story and characterisation best tbh; Optimus is younger and more unsure of himself but also more earnest, with more visible baggage. The rest of his team feel like a ragtag band of misfits (which I have a weakness for no lie lmfao) who are still trying to find their place in this conflict and the future ahead of them. Sari is also one of the more beloved human companions and the show’s take on classics characters feels fresh and interesting, and the interpretation of the autobots and decepticons themselves is surprisingly nuanced.
Transformers: Prime: remember that 90s animation? Kiss that shit good bye my friend. This cgi is some beautiful shit. More than a few fans wish tfp is the art direction the movies had taken, storyline aside.
Summary: the autobots are already on earth, staking it out and fighting a more subdued sort of conflict with the cons. One day they get some human kids involved and stumble across some conspiracy shit and it all spirals out of control from there.
Why you should give it a try: great animation and atmosphere, gorgeous character designs, a solid interpretation go the characters, and it offers a more serious take on the story over all.
Rescue Bots: I’ve noticed this show doesn’t make the list a lot which is a shame? It has a much younger audience than any of then other series but its still quality and one of my fave tf series.
Summary: the ship of four non-combatants who were left in stasis before the war detect a transmission telling autobots to go to earth, so it…goes to earth. There they wake up on some island and are told they’ve gotta start building a repatoire with the native species…but they can’t reveal that they’re sentient aliens yet.
Why you should give it a try: ok ok, most of the series are made for 7-12 year olds with the teen and adult fans sort of in mind, this show…is a show made for pre-K kids, no joke. Its a lot less…murder-y, and this is especially saying something because it came out at the same time TFP did and in fact is supposed to take place in the same universe!
BUT, but it has a consistently well-written story and characterization, it addresses stuff I never thought it would, and its a nice break from the ridiculously high stakes of the other series. Honestly Rescue Bots is great and I wish more people talked about it because its a series totally worth watching, certainly as much as any of the others.
More Than Meets the Eye comics: there are a lot of comic series but so far this is my favorite one lol
Summary: the war is over, Optimus is done with everyone’s shit and splits the matrix in half, giving one to rodimus and they other to bumblebee. And what does roddy do with his newfound matrix half? Decide he’s going on a quest of course! And who better to go with than literally every unqualified misfit the autobot and neutral factions have to offer?
Why you should give it a try: ridiculous shenanigans, horror, drama, intrigue, strong characterisation, and a killer aesthetic. Damn it may not always give me what I want but its got a lot of exactly what I’m always looking for.
There are some video games (Fall of Cybertron, War For Cybertron, Transformers: Devastation), other comic series (Robots in Disguise, G1/UK comics), and the Robots in Disguise cartoon, however I don’t have a decent enough grasp on them to describe them super well I just know they’re pretty good and have had people recommend them to me. You’re welcome to try those as well of course.
Also if you’re into toy collecting or want to get into it there’s a lot of materials you can read and such but my personal advice is pretty simple:
1) go to walmart, target, a store that sells collectibles, a convention, or a garage sale
2) buy a cheap toy that you like. Don’t spend over like $20
3) decide if that was a fun experience or not and if you like having this toy or not
If you liked it enough to keep buying, then congrats, toy collecting might be right for you! Do your research, Don’t blow too much money too quickly, take it easy, have fun.
But yeah sorry this is really long but I do hope you consider giving transformers a try since I know I love it a lot and it really has a lot to offer. I hope this wasn’t like…a crazy response. That a crazy person might give. And that I didn’t scare you away or anything XS
the key is to try some stuff and have fun and if its not your thing that’s cool too! Have a chill night anon
