in my experience it’s fairly similar in Ontario re: content and rigor! we spent a lot of time on tenses and correct conjugations, but 99% of us only retain a vague vibes-based sense of it.

French starts as a minor subject in grade 4 (like we only have it once or twice a week), gets slightly more time in grade 7 and 8 (three times a week) and then is mandatory in grade 9. after that, your language requirement is complete and you can take other classes. if you do choose to take French until graduation/through all four years of high school, you get an extra lil diploma on top of your high school diploma saying that you’re “officially bilingual” but again, your actual fluency varies wildly. kids like having the bilingual certificate because lots of jobs (anything soft skills-y that works in Quebec, lots of teaching jobs, literally anything in the federal government, etc.) require being bilingual, but most people don’t bother. I think we had 20-50 people get it in a graduating class of 200 people?

(to be clear, this is different from the French immersion that teaboot mentioned. in my experience, that starts right from grade 1 with certain subjects being taught in French, but I never was in FI so I don’t know more than what I’ve heard from friends who switched out to attend our gifted magnet program)

this might be more of a southern Ontario thing, but because we’re in driving distance of Quebec City and Montreal, those are popular destinations for overnight field trips. lots of schools in my town do that as a grade 8 graduation trip (like I went to Quebec City for my grade 8 grad), but I think that’s less common now (I tutor in my hometown and multiple kids have reacted like I’m unbearably fancy, whereas I remember every school doing it and that the difference was in length and fanciness depending on the school’s resources). it was definitely seen (and appreciated!) as a chance for us to use our French and to learn about quebecois culture as something unique to French Canada.

for context, I went exclusively to local public schools in an upper middle class suburb and graduated in the late 2010’s. my town is weird and had like 12 high schools with 900-1500 kids each, but we were an outlier. most places have like 3 large centralized ones.

edit: in reference to the notes, I definitely learned quebecois French, we knew that some of our vocab would be out of place in Parisian French etc. and yes, the l’anana puppet does give me flashbacks.

Taking French as a class is mandatory, yes, but almost nobody becomes fluent in public school unless they do French immersion.

The French is Qébecois French, and like super duper basic ass shit like "are, have, go, do" conjugations and a fee basic phrases, plus some words for table, ceiling, chair, library, hospital, whatever.

In elementary school, I don't think we did much- My english schools taught us how to sing the national anthem in English and French as well as ASL, but I've completely forgotten the ASL and most of the French. Normally we'd sing it in English and then switch to French for the last few lines, idk why.

The average highschool graduate knows, "Hello, my name is", "yes", "no", "where is the library", and a couple random words and swears. (Swears were not part of the curriculum.)

I chose to do French immersion stsrting in grade 6, so what happens THERE is you speak English and throw in whatever French words you know (affectionately referred to as "franglais"), then slowly use more and more French until about grade 7-9 where speaking English is no longer allowed in class. (I got detention a few times for chatting in English.)

One funny thing about early French classes in immersion- we had to ask to use the bathroom in French (esque-je peux aller a la toilette, if i remember correctly) and one time a kid said it wrong (esque-je peur à la toilette) which kind of sort of translates to "Am I afraid of going to the bathroom?" Which was, frankly, hilarious, and not just because he used to throw shit at my head all the time

Popular French words among English students are "pomplemousse" (Pomp-LA-Moose, Grapefruit) "Granouille" (Gran-oo-ee, Frog) "Phoque" (Fock, Seal) and "Arrêt" (A-rett, often intentionally mispronounced as "a rat", Stop)

Common French assignments in Englush schools are talking with a partner about your summer vacation, reading short paragraphs to the class, using smalltalk words in proper contexts, naming pizza toppings, singing songs about conjugation, etc.

Common French assignments in French schools are translating chapters from books written in English, writing short fiction stories, correcting incorrect sentences, reading French books, writing essays, etc.

In BC at least you need to take and pass French every year for a couple years in highschool, but after I think a certain point you can choose another language if it's available at your school? I think my mom took Russian growing up, idk

But I haven't actually been fluent in... God, about 12 years or so now?

I van read enough to passably understand slow speech and simple books, but not enough to articulate myself past very simple concepts and ideas- directions, questions asking for help, etc, and my grammar is.... bad.

However, the fact that there's such a thing as an 'incomplete' gene sequence seems to imply that the Players can be told their universe is wrong. In other words, there are correct and incorrect universes.

Who's doing the grading, then? What makes a universe 'dissonant'? Does Sburb have an ideal, ‘harmonious’ universe that it's measuring our frog against? If so, how does it define 'harmony'?

Perhaps every universe needs a specific set of traits, in order to ensure it doesn’t cause problems in the future. Like, maybe this final frog injects Sburb into the universe, ensuring that it goes on to propagate the cycle anew.

As for other stuff, such as edits, I'd say that as long as it's clear that it's fan made, spoilers are tagged and L-5 is credited, it's should be fine. This old video comes to mind:

See how the first seconds are not the actual video? It says something along the lines "These characters are from the Layton series, there are slight spoilers up to Azran Legacy, continue only if you're okay with that".

It feel's weirdly 2010s, but I guess that's the way to go now.

Still, it is not like they will come inmideately for us all. I doubt they know Tumblr exists, for starters. As for Youtube and other places, short fan edits and gameplays and the likes might be good with those "I'm a fan, not L-5 and this has spoilers" disclaimers.

And I'm not really familiar with how Youtube works, but I'd say even if you have music videos or silent gameplays in Youtube the worst thing that can happen is for you to recieve a notification like "please take down this video". And then you do that and that would be sorted.

This is something I suffer with personally, so that explains why I wanted to see what you think they’d do. Basically, reader has severe separation anxiety and abandonment issues. They think it’s just ‘clinginess’ at first but then they start realising how abnormal this ‘clinginess’ is when they have to leave reader to attend something important and reader desperately clinging onto them. They quickly realise what’s actually going on and it gets to a point where they’re scared of leaving reader alone at home because they’re worried she might end up hurting herself.

Sorry if I was too detailed. You can skip over the details and just write them with a GN or fem reader that has separation anxiety. Thank youu! 💕

i get this bc i also have bad abandonment issues but also i do reccoemend that you try to talk to people you're worried about leaving you more transparently and seeing if you can get some more security in your relationships/try to untrain yourself from the assumption that you'll be left because as im sure you know this constant dread is very exhausting but i promise you people arent going to abandon you that easily - i didnt want to go into details about reader hurting themseleves bc once things get to that point relationships can become toxic and im not a big fan of stuff like that at the moment!!

Sylus doesn't realise just how clingy you are until the twins and Mephisto report it to him when he goes on his business trip. You had a hard time letting him go but he thought that was you playing with him and being dramatic so he brushed it off. You're grown, and he knows that despite how needy you are you'd be fine by yourself. Or at least he thought you would be.

When he comes home you refuse to let him out of your sight, or if he does need to leave you're blowing up his phone. He doesn't mind showering you in attention but he's also worried for you, not wanting to make you feel as though he's going to randomly just leave you one day.

He spends his days subtly implying to you that he isn't leaving you that easily. He doesn't say anything to you about how he suspects you're having some problems with abandonment, simply deciding to make it so that you don't have to doubt his feelings for you. He never ends a conversation without reminding you how much he loves you, texts you whenever he's going to be running late, and makes an effort to reach out whenever he's thinking about you (which is pretty much all the time). Slowly but surely you gain confidence in him at the very least, making it a little easier for you to let him leave for longer periods of time.

Wriothesley clocks it pretty quickly, noting how you can't handle it when he tries to go on patrols and with help from Sigewinne who points it out when he's trying to figure out what's wrong with you. Rather than taking a passive approach he "confronts" you head on, telling you what he thinks and asking if he's right. It takes you a second but you decide to nod, admitting that his assumption is indeed correct.

He takes the information in slowly, mind beginning to come up with ways he can try and help alleviate this burden you feel. He asks you what the best ways to assuage your doubt would be, what sorts of things he can do to make you feel less anxious when he's gone. He knows he could be better at communicating with you when he's off on longer jobs, trying to find some middle ground for the two of you to sit on so he can both get work done and keep you happy.

You aren't sure what to make of it at first, finding things a little overwhelming with how anxious you are. However, thanks to his consistency you can feel yourself relaxing, the fear of separation and abandonment no longer hanging over your head as heavily.

Steve Murphy: Oh she’s so exasperated by him. She thinks he’s an arrogant American that should’ve learned some goddamn Spanish by now. Even her gringo (Pierce!) can successfully navigate ordering drinks and reading road signs! Steve thinks she’s an amoral, but somehow holier-than-thou POS who was entirely too comfortable experimenting on kids for almost a decade!

Cap Hatfield: Aw, she thinks he’s absolutely adorable, but she also has zero in common with him. He’s easy to enjoy a companionable silence with though! Cap thinks she’s a little intimidating, but he respects that!

Clement Mansell: Gabby’s actually gonna be kinda fond of him! He’s pathetic and emotionally vulnerable in a way that she’s always weak for. She sort of wants to give him a hug and maybe slap him in the face until he’s tearing up all pretty. She wants to help him do crime *smarter*. He’s so smart when he’s not being rash and stupid, she tells him! She wants him to play to his strengths! Clement adores her. She’s someone that can absolutely handle him, and she’s activating his dommy mommy kink so damn hard.

The Corinthian: Gabby is maybe initially charmed by him, but he’s a little too slick in a way that’s gonna make her uneasy the longer she spends with him. I don’t think she’s the Corinthian’s usual prey, but (especially if she’s still working for A-T) those tantalizingly self-deceptions and cognitive dissonances she’s got are a feast for a dark mirror…

Eli Klaber: Gabby is pretty comfortable with a lot of iffy ethical territory, but Klaber throwing in with Nazis might be a bridge too far! Beyond that, she also just thinks he’s a trigger-happy dumbass, which is an entirely correct read. I think Klaber isn’t really impressed with her either - he might be a little intimidated, but he’s also gonna finds her sanctimonious.

Danny Maguire: Gabby correctly thinks he’s a brat, but she’s also kind of endeared towards him. He’s young and pretty and vulnerable and desperate for daddy’s love - it’s her type! I don’t think she can really tolerate being around him for long though, and Danny actually doesn’t much care for her himself - she’s not *fun* in the way he likes. (Gabby: My liver can’t take it anymore, but if you’d caught me in my early twenties…)

Ty Shaw: Aw, Gabby thinks he’s a silly thing at first, but he’s sweet and fun to hang out with, and she’s pretty charmed. When she eventually gets to know him more and discovers he’s quite a bit smarter than he lets on, I think she likes him even better (she likes clever people!). That being said, I don’t think he’s her romantic type (maybe OK for a drunk hook-up), which is a shame, because she’s his type! But he’s perfectly happy being friends, he thinks she’s a blast!

That's what you felt. Of course, you never meant to fall for your dance teacher. You weren't even the kind of person that falls in love easily but there you were.

In the middle of the dance studio watching Bada filming a dance video in the far corner. You took a deep breath and shook your thoughts. You group meme we were soon to be arriving and you needed to focus for your comeback.

Bada was in charge of the full choreography since your group was advanced in the dance aspect so you got to see her every day.

And day after day you would greet her with a bright smile. You would give her a towel and water bottle to dry her sweat. It was evident to everyone that you were head over heels for the tall dancer. She would always smile sweetly and gravitate towards you when tired or sad.

She would place her chin on your shoulder or rest her head on your lap as you braided her hair. She would dry your sweat softly.

You could tell you had become some sort of comfort to the tall girl, and she never tried to hide it. You were the first one she would greet and the first one she would go to at the end of every practice.

And you... You loved it.

Her sweet eyes were enchanting. The way they would glow with passion when dancing melted all of you. Her big yet soft hands on your waist, when correcting your posture, feel like heaven on earth. The way she would lick her lips in the middle of her analyzing the dance would drive you insane.

It was killing you slowly and eating you up. Your emotions were too strong to hide sometimes and you were scared. But then she would simply bust your bubble.

"Thank you, cutie," she would say. Or "You are such an amazing friend," you could see she only looked at you as a dumb kid who was her student and friend. Nothing else.

"Ouch... maybe you should confess. It might help get rid of the feeling, you know? I heard she is single but has many, many people after her, so act quickly. Who knows? You might actually pull at her heartstrings with a heart like yours,” one of your members said.

That's all it took for you to build the courage to confess to Bada. So you got to work. You bought her favorite jelly snacks, wrote her a letter, and practiced your words.

The day finally arrived. You wore your best dance practice outfit and styled your hair. You gathered your bag and quietly headed out of the dorm at five in the morning since that was the time Bada would arrive at the studio to practice.

You spotted her in the room warming up and smiled. Your heart was beating faster every second, and your heart was doing flips. As soon as you entered the room, you spotted another figure walking toward her.

In a matter of seconds, your heart was shattered. You knew you could never form any kind of romantic relationship so why did it hurt so much to see his lips on hers?

You felt pain in your chest and gripped it tightly dropping the candy that was in your hand with a loud gasp.

This caused Bada to turn to you with wide eyes and you...

Well, you ran away. There wasn't much you could do. You couldn't even breathe properly and you hated yourself for falling in love with someone who was so out of reach from you.

Bada tried to run after you but was held back by the other figure. She bent down to pick up whatever you had dropped and saw the note. She opened it and inside she was greeted with your handwriting.

"I will always want what's best for you"

Tears formed in her eyes and she sighed. She knew she couldn't do anything to make you feel better except give you some space. She knew how you felt a while back and she knew your heart was broken so she didn't want to make things worse because she did love you.

Maybe not in the way she would like to but she loved you.

And days passed. You and Bada went back to the friendship you had before, talking, laughing, hanging out.

However, behind your bright smile, you hid great pain knowing Bada belonged to someone else. Someone you hated for taking away your love...

I don't use colors for emotions. The BG color is based on the setting of the scene. So it's yellow-ish if it's day, blue if it's night, inside DBK house is orange since it's mostly lit by fire and lava, etc...

the format is whatever is default by procreate on my ipad(1600x2100 something I think)

But, I assume is because you are asking advices for drawing? But I don't understand how the canvas size can influence your art skills. If you need to PRINT whatever is it that you need to print, ok, I get it, there are standards based on the size of the print so it doesn't get pixeleted, but for the web, I never really understood how that like, changes your skills. it might change the quality, yes, but veeeeeeeeeeryyy little.

we definitely understand where the offense came from, and we are both admittedly sensitive people who probably took things a little too seriously! and i am sure that contributed to everyone else taking things seriously, so we don't want to act like we are blameless victims in the whole ordeal. that said, we both fully feel that everything was blown out of proportion and we were on the receiving end of some really unwarranted and vicious behavior. to have our tweets priv quoted to hell and back and also be called lesbian haters by random bystanders who lacked any context at all left a really sour taste in our mouths that we are still not over. and for me (thea), that was actively a time in which i was coming to terms with being a lesbian and using that as a label, so it hit a little harder and a little closer to home than it probably would have otherwise.

there are several things we are still frustrated about to this day -- you are correct in that the entire thing started because we were being Asked about headcanons. asked! and yes, they were definitely leading questions that were looking for a confirmation that they were correct more than anything, but it was still a question, and when we answered differently how they wanted, the attitude shifted so quickly. prior to this situation, everyone involved was happy to interact with us on the regular when it came to getting behind the scenes info, teasers, silly q&as, extras, etc., but the minute we stood up for ourselves and simply disagreed with a headcanon, we were dogpiled on and treated like garbage. even the people who weren't partaking in it did not defend us or apologize at all -- every apology we have gotten (of the three! three!!) has been from people apologizing for the behavior of their mutuals or that weren't even involved in the situation at all, and not one of those apologies came at a time that was relevant or in a space that was public.

it's also frustrating that we literally put out an apology -- a general one addressed to everyone, and one addressed to robyn specifically, owning up to our part in it all and trying not to make anyone feel alienated -- and we were promised apologies and resolutions in return (again, by robyn specifically!!) that we never got. quite frankly, we expected that, but it sucked, and still does. your apology is one we are more receptive to because of the fact that you were a bystander, but anyone who actually partook in the Let's Dogpile CampByler event on twitter has had months to come forward and take ownership for their part in it, and they haven't even shown that they wanted to, or ever intended to, so. lol. that ship has sailed, and the concern about alienating that group has also passed, because the kind of people who feel comfortable acting like that with zero remorse are not ones we really care to have interacting with our work anyway.

thank you for taking the time to bring this back around and apologize for it. it's appreciated. i know that you came off anon as well for the last part of your message, but i don't feel comfortable posting your url just in case anyone Does try to be rude to you as a result. the only other thing i will say is this -- the discouragement was not unknowingly thrown at us. it was a deliberate take down. to imply otherwise discredits everything else you've said. i know that you might not have meant it that way, but i felt it needed to be pointed out. that being said, coming forward at all is still very much appreciated, and i also want to make it clear that this situation did not contribute to the delay of 10.2 at all.

If your politics are in-group/out-group politics you are not helping and you do not have the interest of your fellow people at heart. Recently I've been helping out a guy doing DIY fixes and stuff and I've been politely informed "few things give a man more pride than an absolute dogshit kludge, which is why I'm glad we're fixing this after they're gone" and as someone who did programming, yes. Turning a thing into Your Thing specifically, just does something to your monkey brain.

(N.B. he proceeded to kludge together a fix seconds later. It worked. And he was proud)

I feel like this thing (people being afraid of criticism or critical analysis) is the intersection of a lot of human psychology. Like how gambling machines are the ultimate dopamine slavers, THIS is just one of those brainhacks. It can make you die on stupid hills nobody would willingly die on.

Laziness, personal pride/correctness, tribalism, replacing the empty void of capitalism with brands, poor reading comprehension, What About Waffles, it all comes together.

P.S. I feel like the YouTube Critique Sphere (especially the whiners) (this might be more than just that, IDK, I'm not a worldly person) does a lot to make criticism feel like it exists to destroy, that critique is the Opposite of Praise and therefor Only Bad because things are Black and White. This worsens the general opinion on what critical analysis actually is, further spurring the above.

Just having some thinks because I've been quite bothered by a lot of crap YouTube 'critics' and their Watsonian diarrhea.

People who respond to criticisms of games and how some games don't in fact work for certain playstyles with "let people enjoy things" or "you just think people are having fun wrong" are doing a bit of a rhetorical sleight of hand where they are trying to turn a discussion about games and how they are played into a moral discussion, immediately casting the person making the criticisms in the part of an evil fun-hating Grinch who thinks others should be as miserable as they are. This is obviously stupid and we should always point and laugh at the people doing this, but another reason it doesn't work on me is because talking about games, even critically, is fun to me.
