ever since I wrote the thing where spock tells mccoy that the ozh'esta can be platonic, in the back of my head I keep thinking about a fic where the entire basis is that spock does know he's into mccoy, and he (don't do this) basically lulls him into vulcan dating without telling him? like finger kissing sure sure sure, but other things as well that, like, up the ante a LOT. and because i'm not a particularly kind person, I was trying to think how kirk could also be doing that, but of course he doesn't have the same leeway as spock, as mccoy obviously knows what human gestures of affection/romance are - so i think the best workaround would be for kirk to convince mccoy to try a chill/casual friends with benefits thing with him, except kirk keeps, like, doing super intense romantic things, and (i'm exaggerating for comedic affect) gaslighting him that they're really just what every friends with benefits situation is like, and because mccoy's never had a fwb, he's just like......"that sounds wrong but I don't know enough about them to prove you wrong" and goes along with it.

point being that he is routinely getting to idk vulcan third base with spock, but spock is just like "odd that you think this is romantic and/or sexual, this is just vulcan friendship, doctor," and meanwhile he's supposed to be having quickies with kirk to blow off steam, but kirk keeps doing the most romantic shit and being like, "yeah, giving you roses is my kink, why are you being so weird about it" and mccoy's just. listen. he's dated around okay, he's not some shy blushing virgin, but he has made the tragic mistake of trusting his two best friends, and by george are they gonna abuse that trust (don't do this) in their attempts to win him over lmao.

I mostly keep thinking about other vulcans coming on board and them subtly realizing and reacting to spock's ~claim~ on mccoy, and spock being disgustingly smug about it, and meanwhile someone hits on mccoy and kirk swoops in and, like, tenderly cups mccoy's cheek and kisses him and then leaves, and mccoy's like, yeah, no, we're just friends?, and everyone around him is???? babe??? no you aren't???

is it possible to write this without mccoy coming off TOO oblivious and/or spock and kirk coming off TOO lacking of boundaries, I just don't know, but it does make me giggle now and again when I think about it

also the fact that he is going to genuinely murder them when he realizes what they've been doing, and they can't even complain, because they both know they absolutely deserve it.

yeah that’s exactly what i’m saying. i think the show was pretty blatant about sam being in the “temptress” role in their dynamic, as i already mentioned in this post (also in this post but it’s more of my own personal headcanon based on their interaction in playthings)

Yayyyyy omg finally have drawn portraits of the four main characters!!!! I'll show the process of Jenson's first and then them all four together. Though it's a shame the Seb/Fernando ones are older, I think it's hopefully obvious how much I've improved since November?

Look at him in all his handsome, princely glory 🥹 It's funny, I'm always happy with the second sketch and initial lineart, and then I start coloring it and I absolutely hate it, and it takes a significant amount of time into the painting for me to like it again. And then I reach a certain point and I'm in love with it again. Ugh though I gotta say, I love drawing the curls, it's just so 18th century, but at the same point, man I always will love my original lineart for the hair the best ah. Also yes I absolutely had to give him a big ass hat with feathers, he really is that kinda guy to me. I originally drew a bicorne and then realized that those don't really exist until basically almost a century later oops, so tricorne it is!!

Haha wow I have improved a lot! Just like the Seb/Fernando ones, Mark and Jense's were meant to be put together. I think there's a lot of inherent characterization in their poses that highlight the difference between them. Mark is looking up, very wistful, looking up to greater people, greater things. Jenson's head is tilted down, almost looking at the viewer, he is very satisfied with his role and revels in it, he's here to slay!

Okay, yes, lore, characterization, sorry that it is so far down on the post!!

Jense would probably be the fan favorite if this AU was an actual book or show or something. He's the guy you randomly find while browsing Wikipedia and you're like, woah this guy is so cool??? Unlike Sebmarknando, he doesn't really have the same level of angst, he's kinda just chilling. He's a bit harder to write a lore post about, because he's basically that character who is always magically around the corner, ready to witness some crazy thing and just breeze past it.

He is less linked to Seb than people like Mark and Fernando, because he's basically just his personal minister of transportation(read: horse fucker), so he avoids a lot of the relationship complications and drama, but that isn't to say he's completely uninvolved. He really likes Seb, and loves to hang around with him and serve him, but he's not as beholden to him. He's who everyone goes to air their grievances or to get away from the others, and he's very happy with this role. He's generally willing to play any side in an argument, but does tend to have a pretty big soft spot for Seb overall(Seb also gives him cuteness aggression, and he wants to bite him. Especially when Seb puffs himself up and acts super bratty when he gets offended at not being seen as a proper ruler.)

He's royalty from other kingdom, but pledged his loyalty to Seb's kingdom when he was quite young and has served him(his father first) ever since. He started off somewhat low in the military, rose to a pretty high rank, was a renowed war hero, and then ended up retiring pretty early to tend to Seb's horses. That's an oversimplification, but yeah. He liked the military life, was very good at it, but decided he had done enough, and wanted to be involved in more direct service, albeit more laid back. As I mentioned in Mark's post, Mark *really* doesn't understand his choice to do this, because if Mark had been in Jense's position, he can't ever imagine being able to let all that go and living the quiet life.

He is the palace whore, everyone has been with him honestly. It'll be like, some man walks into his bedroom, only to see Jenson in bed with his wife, but instead of being angry, he's like "wow you couldn't even wait for me??" He's just very carefree, and happy to just slut around and tend to Seb's horses.

I think he definitely still advises Seb, and would go to battle if truly need be, but generally seems to be living in a different world than the weird psychosexual homoerotic political drama that the others seem to be living in. But as I said, it's not like he doesn't contribute to it! He loves to goad Fernando, and constantly plays devil's advocate in "debates" between Fernando and Seb. He's also obviously the one that keep "accidentally" locking them in rooms and forgetting where the key is.

Sorry if this isn't very explanatory, I hope it gives a general idea to the type of character he is???? As always, let me know if you have any questions! I kinda struggled on what to write here because I'm finishing this at almost 8 am 😭 so I'm not sure if it's great or not. But basically you need to know: horse fucker who is generally breezy and carefree but also can be a bit of a menace to society every once in a while.

there r a lot of things about the myth of psyche and eros that makes me a little insane but one of them has always been the tasks from aphrodite and the unfairness of it. they're not intended to be possible. they're so obviously not meant to be possible, and psyche isn't fucking hercules, you know, she's not a demigod or whatever, she's mortal and these aren't mortal tasks!! it's why psyche has to be helped with each one, fucking by like ants and river gods and shit. and so like. idk. i know ppl see psyche and eros as like a story about love and shit which obviously it is but as a kid psyche and eros always felt like a story about being able to accept help

OKAY GAMERS Sorry for the delay I keep getting distracted (Undiagnosed ADHD moment) Tis time for me to infodump about my Three Houses N AU teehee. AKA me mashing hyperfixations together like dolls because I’m insane and love crossover bullshit. Stuff isn’t completely set in stone since I need to likely review the timeline and stuff but yee :D

I’m putting everything under a read more, both because of general spoilers for the game and because I won’t lie, Three Houses can be a *tad bit* bleak and I try to write any fandom stuff about it in a similar tone. Content warnings for N’s story include child experimentation, child death, general childhood abuse (mainly from a cult and a man acting like a father figure), a lot of talks about mortality and fantasy chronic illness, and some mentions of emeto/coughing up blood

-For setup. N (Or “Natural” at the start) doesn’t remember his birth parents, and originally grew up in a small orphanage with his older sisters, Athena and Concordia, both of whom are biologically related to Natural in this AU, rather than adopted siblings. The orphanage itself wasn’t bad, maybe a bit underfunded but meant well, but Natural always felt isolated from his peers, not really understanding human connections well unless it was with his sisters. Due to his mostly solo and antisocial behavior, he spent a lot of his childhood feeling isolated and struggled to get himself and his sisters adopted

-However, things started to look up when an older man dawning a black cape and a cane started frequenting the orphanage, looking to adopt. Immediately, the “kind” older gentleman seemed attached to Natural, stating he had “great potential for the future” and was “A bright young man destined to be one of the greatest figures in Foldlan”. Natural, of course, wasn’t used to being directly treated so kindly despite his personality quirks, and within just a few days, papers were finalized for adoption. The only thing the two argued about during the adoption process was convincing the old man to adopt his siblings, but after some convincing, the old man would (reluctantly) allow Natural’s sisters to come with to live with him

-Of course, no one can have nice things. This man was Ghetsis, a powerful sage within The Cult lurking underneath the belly of Foldlan, regularly referred to as “Those Who Slither In The Dark”. What I neglected to mention, was that Natural has something valuable to The Cult. A Crest, AKA a token from The Goddess herself given to warriors generations ago, and have been passed down from heir to heir granting them various powers. Though Natural wasn’t even aware of his status, considering his lack of blood parents to inform him, he was the only one out of his siblings to gain The Crest of Beasts (though not the only one to possess it, I’ll get to that later). Ghetsis needed a child bearing any Crest, so one being so available for easy access was convenient for the man

-When indoctrinating Natural into The Cult, Ghetsis was very peculiar about specific things, making sure his health was always monitored, being selective as to how often he interacted with the fellow children The Cult had access to, and barely even letting Natural see his own sisters without permission. Most notably, however, is the name change. Ghetsis had it so Natural were to only be referred to the first letter of his name, simply referring to the child as N. N didn’t understand these changes, but his rose tinted glasses of finally having a “complete family” made him unaware of the horrors to come

-Eventually, like most children with Crests The Cult got their hands on, N eventually experienced a gruesome experimentation in his early teenage years, in which the goal was to artificially implant a second Crest into his body, making him a super human of sorts, with the goal of creating a perfect figure to be used to take down both The Kingdom of Fargus, and The Church of Serios, both of which controlled Foldlan, and with the two of them out of the way, The Cult could rule the region. Ghetsis in particular wanted his “son” to be the first true success, so he can use him to propel himself to the top of the food chain within The Cult

-While many died during this brutal process, N thankfully was one of the few to directly survive the process, gaining a second Crest. It seemed like a perfect success, that he looked completely the same and likely would hold the key’s to Ghetsis’s plans of domination. However, after only a few weeks, N’s fate was sealed for the worse

-N’s hair started whitening at the tips, already a clear indicator of Double Crests. Though that itself didn’t confirm anything, his fate came when chronic pain started flaring up through N’s body. It would feel like the nerves in his body were actively stabbing him through his limbs, and would sometimes be bad enough to either make it hard to move, or even cause him to randomly cough up blood. This was the key sign that the experiment was a failure, and that N wouldn’t be of any use to either Ghetsis or The Cult.

-Keeping a caring facade still, Ghetsis decides the best way to rid of his failure is to send N off with some other adults whom are apart of The Cult to The Church of Serios, neglecting to tell him that said members were being sent in an attempt to assassinate Lady Rhea. Ghetsis figures that this attempt wouldn’t be successful, so he’s using this to his own convince to cut his losses and not need to dirty his own hands with disposing his son himself

-Ghetsis is correct in the fact that this assassination attempt goes poorly, as every member apart of the coup is captured, including N. While most were executed by the Church for nearly killing its figure head, N receives a good amount of sympathy from the Church staff. Considering the fact he cannot be older than 13 by this point, Rhea and the others figure he didn’t have as much of a choice in this as an adult would. Plus, him bearing two Crests would make him worth keeping him alive so Professor Hanneman can get direct exposure studying

As such, N is allowed a choice for his fate. Either he lets himself be executed, or he is sent down to The Abyss under The Church and occasionally gets checked in on by Hanneman for research purposes. Obviously, a scared teenager like N in this situation would choose life over death, so he agrees

-From here, N fully intends to live out the rest of his days in the Church’s sewers with the rest of the outcasts, pretty much the same as where he started, but without access to grander society, his sisters likely assuming him dead, and grappling with the fact his “Father” likely sent him out on that mission to die. He also discovers from Hanneman that his double crests very likely do more than just give him chronic pain and slowly whitening hair. The double Crests experiment severely reduced his life expectancy, and he’d be likely to make it past his mid thirties at most. Sooooo yeah this kid is fucking going through it

-Despite everything, N is still a kind man who wants to make an impact on others lives. Even while his mental health goes through it during his years in The Abyss, he still manages to bond with the members of the Ashen Wolves, the unofficial forth house of the Church. He’s practically their fifth member, though I picture he’s likely to stray off and isn’t super loyal to the made up house (trust issues and all that). He *does* leave The Abyss by the time he’s around 17 but also around then is when the war begins so this poor guy can’t catch a damn bREAK-

I know this all sounds super depressing, but I love this take I made on N’s story to fit within one of my current hyperfixations, so he does get plenty of different endings that are happy and give him a chance to heal, even if his time on this world isn’t long. I didn’t even get to mention stuff like his comically large sweet tooth, his intense hyperfixation on ghosts and Wyverns, or the fact that Reshiram also exists in this universe as a fluffy Wyvern N bonds with and uses during the war. Maybe later I’ll make another post but this one is so comically long I’m sorry bout that, call me the yapper 💀

Books of 2024: ORDINARY MONSTERS by J. M. Miro.

Swinging from a teeny tiny read (A SHINING) to this behemoth, which weighs in at 658 pages (that's like. uh. nine (9) SHININGs, never mind about the word density per page).

Did I know this is the first book in a trilogy? No. Did I know the trilogy is not yet complete?? Also no. Will that stop me from reading it now anyway??? Wow, you guessed it: No.

I'm always down books featuring corvids in the cover art and kids with mysterious powers, AND the "man made of smoke" that the jacket promises sounds Very Intriguing. All I know going into this book is what the jacket tells me, though, so I'm excited to be surprised!
