Chad reed on always the entourages creating the drama. I cannot believe that is what caused rosquez downfall but also given the level of Vale's celebrity and the way he carried himself, I can totally believe that it was the entourage (iPad stand I'm looking at you) that brought the end
(about reed's 2020 quotes in this) yeahhh I mean the downfall was caused by a whole bunch of factors, not just any one thing... like all great tragic narratives, it feels inevitable from a global perspective and yet thoroughly preventable in its specifics, with loads of points where you think, 'oh, if things had just gone a little bit differently'... there's this tension in how, in the end, maybe it would've always gone wrong, but a lot had to come together for it to go wrong in quite such a spectacular fashion
reed's definitely correctly identified one of the factors - the entourages, and valentino's entourage specifically. though fwiw, I did cut off the article before reed predicted the marc/fabio rivalry was headed a similar way (this was from 2020, obviously before the arm injury):
for better or for worse, fabio has skipped the villain arc to head straight to the depressed frenchie arc
regardless of whether this rift would have happened or not, the idea that marc would have gotten a new appreciation for the situation valentino found himself in is at least an interesting one. though if anything, the rivalry with fabio would have more closely paralleled valentino's with the other aliens (new talent coming through, but with the previously dominant rider still a regular winner). now is the time marc's learning what it feels like to come back from a prolonged absence from being competitive at the highest level - and of course with a new superstar simultaneously making his debut
so yeah, anyway, tragedy, you can point to all sorts of strains and pressures and tension inherent to professional sport that were exacerbated by the personalities involved and the influence of the media and the passage of time etc etc. but never mind all that, let's get back to entourages! I know you mention everybody's favourite b-list shakespeare villain, but I'm going to basically mostly ignore him because it's well-trodden ground. yeah, it does help to have one guy who's whispering poison into your ear for a prolonged stretch of time before showing up at your motorhome doorstep with a bunch of telemetry and a dream. and yeah, there were people in valentino's entourage definitely encouraging this path to doom. but what I'm also interested in is the flip side - why nobody stopped him
I would like to submit into evidence this passage detailing the thoughts of vale's mechanic alex briggs. now briggs in this excerpt blames two groups for how things went down in 2015:
the yamaha side (specifically the press group) for not talking him down from the ledge before the presser
the crew chief and other assorted italians on the team for being too "yessy" and not standing up to him
let's briefly (for a given value of the word) focus on the first one. if you're a random yamaha pr person and you see the valentino rossi run to a press conference (given he was late) with a bunch of papers in his hands (well, he's not actually holding the papers in those gifs, but presumably somebody's got them), it's probably a tough ask to expect you to hold up the valentino rossi and ask him what exactly he's intending to do with those papers. also, is he really going to back off because you, random yamaha pr person, have asked him to please not accuse the competition of sabotage? added context is that some at yamaha were aware of what valentino thought about the race at phillip island (which we'll get to in a sec), but god knows if the pr people did. unless he confided in anyone on the yamaha side what the plan was, a lot of them would have been blindsided too - which does come back to the problem of how big a deal valentino is and how maybe you're a little more cautious about questioning what he's about to do with those papers than you would be with somebody else. it does feel like perhaps a bit too much to expect for them to have launched some last-minute intervention, or to even know what kind of intervention they could have gone for beyond low-level comedy hijinks to stop him from even getting to that room. why did nobody from yamaha place a banana skin in his path
but we do know that at least some in yamaha were aware of valentino's great big phillip island sabotage theory, because lin jarvis has very helpfully told us as much (from the post-sepang media scrum):
Q: Do you think it was a mistake for Valentino to [provoke?] Marc so much on Thursday with a very personal and hard attack? Jarvis: There are always many different ways of addressing different problems - Valentino chose to do it in that way. Perhaps that is what provoked Marc into being quite aggressive on the track. I really don't know, you need to ask Marc not me about that. Every action has a consequence. That's life. Q: And did you know before that Valentino was going to be so aggressive with Marc in the press conference? Did you know before? Did you discuss with Valentino about this decision or you didn't know until it happened? Jarvis: Personally, I was not aware of that. I was aware of Valentino's opinion of the race in Australia, but I was not aware... but I was not aware that he would - Q: Don't you think because Valentino at the end of the day is an employee of Yamaha he should discuss before with you about such an important decision, to attack a rider of another factory in such a heavy way [...]? Jarvis: You can't control every incident, everything that happens and you know, generally we have a very good [...] relation, connection with our riders, we talk to them before about things before, but anyway I think this is something Valentino felt strongly about and it was his decision and that's it.
note the use of the word "personally", which does leave the door open to others within yamaha (outside of valentino's inner circle) knowing what was going to happen. jarvis, unsurprisingly, comes down pretty firmly on the side of 'well what were we supposed to do'. given that jarvis admits he knew valentino's theory and is hardly a stranger to valentino's modus operandi - after all, he was already team boss at the time of another tense press conference in sepang eleven years prior that took place in the wake of valentino accusing a competitor of messing with him - you do have to wonder whether yamaha could not have tried a little harder to stop valentino. but again, accounting for the power of valentino's status and the power of his character, I'm personally unconvinced yamaha could've done much to convince valentino to change his mind
so then: the italians. a little bit of context - briggs started working with crew chief jerry burgess in 1994 and both of them were on mick doohan's team for all of his five 500cc titles. when doohan's injuries forced his retirement, valentino inherited his championship-winning team upon moving up to 500cc. jb was vale's very first crew chief in the premier class, and him as well as briggs have been working with vale since december 1999. understandably, this is a very tightly-knit group. it is one that made the jump to yamaha with valentino - here's just a quick excerpt (also from oxley's valentino rossi: all his races) about briggs' thoughts on that move:
When Valentino decided to defect to Yamaha, he was determined to have his crew go with him. Only one stayed at HRC. "We first got to know about the Yamaha deal in Portugal, I think [September 2003]," Briggs continues. "I wanted to stay with JB, because I hadn't finished learning what I wanted to learn. "I remember a clandestine meeting in the car park at Phillip Island, about salaries and how everything was going to work. It was really exciting. When I very first started working with Honda the whole group was very much a team. Towards the end we felt like it started to become a bit us and them: the engineers and management, then the mechanics and the riders. They'd sort of got too big for their boots - they'd designed this wonderful bike, so it was like it had nothing to do with us. That made it easier to leave.
and also about the move to yamaha, from the 2020 barker biography of valentino:
But with his trusted crew chief Jerry Burgess and most of his other team members from the Honda garage agreeing to defect with him, Rossi had the crew he needed, not only to win but also to enjoy his racing. It was a heartening display of loyalty and something of a risk for all involved. ‘When I announced to the mechanics that I was going with Valentino they said, “I’m coming too,”’ Burgess later explained. ‘Some of those guys were leaving very secure jobs and taking a big gamble.’
the group also survived the move to ducati (obviously a deeply frustrating two years not just for the guy riding the bike) and the move back to yamaha. but then, valencia 2013, valentino announced his decision to fire jb in a press conference organised for the pair of them. his 2013 season had been deeply frustrating - yes, he had gotten a podium in his first race beating both marc and dani, but after that generally speaking he couldn't come close to matching the other aliens when healthy. he was comfortably the fourth best rider that year, scrapping and clawing his way through midfield battles and having to rely on misfortunes befalling the three title contenders to achieve his podiums and his sole victory at assen. he was considering retiring at the end of the 2014 season once his current contract expired, but wanted to try everything he could to see whether he could be competitive again against the world's very best. and so, he made the decision to roll the dice and get himself a new crew chief, the italian silvano galbusera
now I have to say, personally I have a lot of time for this decision (even if it was maybe not... uh, enacted in the most graceful of manners, given how sudden it was). I come from a sports background where a certain ruthlessness in personnel decisions is encouraged and generally praised - if something isn't working, you should have the courage to make a change, even if it's deeply uncomfortable (including on an interpersonal level). also, while it was a sudden departure, it's not like burgess was that keen on sticking around much longer (again from the same oxley book):
Valentino ended his collaboration very suddenly at the end of 2013. Burgess was shocked but not too much, because he already knew that he was coming to the end of his own career. "When it ended for me I'd already been doing it 30-odd years and I'd told Valentino a few weeks earlier that I wasn't going to sign any more multi-year contracts. I was 60 by then, so I'd go year by year. I'd already signed a contract for 2014, but I would've thought if we hadn't had any more success by then that there wasn't much point in continuing. I felt we would win more races but I was more doubtful about championships. "I'd read enough sporting biographies to know that sportsmen change their coaches towards the end of their careers. It can give them a spike in results but it doesn't change the overall story. Looking back, Valentino's career went on longer than I expected. He enjoyed some success but no more championships and that's what you race for. Of course he was in the unique position of being able to get a factory bike until he retired. He was very special and deserved everything he got."
which, look. again, personal bias, but to me it's reasonable to part ways with somebody who doesn't think any more titles are plausible, because at that point it's just somebody who has a very different view on your career than you do and may well not stick around for much longer anyway. also, at the end of the day, jb was wrong! valentino came extremely close to winning another title, and just because he didn't, doesn't change the fact he could have. if it had rained on the 8th of november 2015 in valencia, we might be having a very different conversation. (or if they hadn't changed the bloody qualifying format post-2012.) honestly, if the 2016 and to a lesser extent the 2017 season had gone just a little differently - a working bike in mugello here and an unbroken leg there - he could have been a genuine title threat in two more seasons. in any case, what it does show is that valentino even at the end of 2013 was still as determined as ever, was ready to engage in what was a huge gamble (given how almost all his success had come with the highly decorated jb) on the off chance he might find what it took to win again. this will not have been an easy decision for valentino. here's a write-up of the presser at valencia, that stresses how uncomfortable the occasion was, how surprising a decision it was to jb, but how publicly at least there was a lack of recriminations (which, to be fair, wouldn't be much fun to do in a shared presser):
(you'll note that the phrasing in the presser about athletes attempting to extend their carrers by changing things up is echoed in what he says in that book interview where he adds that it doesn't change the overall story, again suggesting he didn't really believe valentino would be competitive. he also uses the same phrasing in ANOTHER interview that confirms as much, but I think you get the point.) valentino said at the time, "it was a very difficult decision for me because I have a great history with jeremy. he is not just my chief mechanic. he is like part of my family. my father in racing". this is somebody he'd been working with since age 21, somebody who is not only revered within the paddock for his work with several of the sport's greats but is also a man who valentino obviously has a close personal connection to. meeting for the first time when vale snuck into the honda pit to check out the bike he might ride next season, hitting it off immediately, countless rowdy dinners together, parties, jb and another older colleague sitting back when food fights started, watching valentino grow up, working with him throughout all his big manufacturer switches, all his successes and all his failures... as much as anything else, it's evidence of how strong vale's desire to win was, how determined he continued to be, to make this choice at this stage of his career. and jb was open to the idea (at least publicly) that it might end up being a smart call:
the 'dirtiest' part of the whole affair is how it was actually carried out - it's not great form to tell your crew chief the day before you end up doing a press conference together to announce your choice. for whatever it's worth, this is how valentino justified the timeline:
and lastly, which I think is the most key part, is valentino's belief. because at the end of the day, the only reason why he's doing any of this, and the only reason why what was to come was possible at all, is that he himself still thought that he could challenge for another title - as much as that belief had come under strain:
now what this piece also goes on to say is that nobody believes this will work. nobody believes that firing jb will lead to better results. people expect that this is going to lead to his retirement, quite possibly at the end of 2014. it's worth just remembering sometimes how extraordinary valentino's return to the top of the game post-2013 really was, how it went against how we expect a rider's competitive lifecycle to work, went far beyond the longevity exhibited by any top rider before or since - all while going up against riders who are widely believed to be some of the best to ever do it. valentino beat jorge in both 2014 and 2016, and remains one of two people to outscore prime marc marquez over the course of a season. not to engage in too much rossi prop here, but sepang 2015 can't really be understood without all the frustration that led up to it, to this one golden chance, this miracle that everybody had believed to be impossible (sometimes even valentino). this wasn't supposed to be happening. it was happening. and then, so so close to the finish line, valentino could feel it slipping, slipping, slipping away
but of course, we still don't know whether changing crew chiefs is the key factor that made him competitive again. maybe he just needed a bit longer to get back into the swing of things post-ducati disaster. maybe the bikes just started to suit him better. hey, maybe it was that nifty exercise regime he'd engaged in a wee spot of espionage for so that he could pinch it off his teammate. what we can say, however, is that valentino's choice both tells us a lot about his mindset, as well as (to finally bring us back to the actual point of this post) representing a massive shift in his 'entourage'. this is what briggs is referring to in his quote - the italians. the new crew chief. the people who couldn't stand up to valentino. now obviously, as mentioned above briggs had worked with jb for the better part of twenty years and can hardly be considered a neutral party. here were briggs' feelings on the matter (yeah it's from the same oxley book again, I got it new for eighteen quid which is a very generous price, would recommend):
When JB was out at the end of 2013 it was like losing my mechanic dad. I remember being in the garage when we found out about it. Then they arranged a kind of farewell, a kind of hodgepodge farewell. It was terrible, I didn't like any of it. I was just hiding behind one of the bikes in the garage, crying, going, what's going on here? It didn't seem right to me. I think maybe Valentino thought he would get faster again sooner, but I think it took at least a year to get the taste of the Ducati out of his mouth. I think if he'd stayed with JB we would've won the championship in 2015.
which. look. we don't have time to unpack all that. but. the point is that obviously briggs wasn't exactly a massive fan of the change within valentino's team, and his comments about the 2015 season do have to be read with that in mind. as to whether vale really would have done better in 2015 with jb at his side, your guess is as good as mine. all that being said, a part of me wonders how much losing that grounding presence enabled valentino's late-2015 spiral. maybe not in terms of talking valentino out of the great big fluctuating lap times treachery theory - to state the obvious, valentino got himself involved in plenty of drama during jb's time as a crew chief. jb himself occasionally helped add fuel to the fire in those feuds, like his infamous comment about how he would be able to fix the ducati's issues in 80 seconds that casey still brings up every three business days (the comments were poorly phrased but also somewhat taken out of context, in that jb was talking about a specific set-up problem). he's generally been pretty happy to be forthright about valentino's rivals, for instance this about casey:
My feeling at the time was that Casey probably only had one game plan, and having watched Casey over the years, he doesn't have a plan B. If it doesn't go his way from the outset, it's probably one of the weaknesses that he had through the youth that he had, through the lack of experience that he had. That's not a criticism of him per se, he was still only 22 at the time.
(this is about laguna seca 2008 and how he helped valentino win that race, including in plotting out vale's rather ruthless tactics - which casey was of course not exactly a fan of.) or these. uh. harsh comments about dani from spring 2010:
Q: Is that atmosphere or track knowledge? Is it like the Spanish finding something extra at the racetracks in Spain? JB: Well, therein we show the weakness, don't we? If you can get up on that weekend, on the technical racetracks of Spain, why can't you get up on the technical racetracks like Australia, where the Italians do? Lorenzo is a guy who will and does. Stoner has been able to get up on tracks all over the world. Unfortunately, Dani Pedrosa's into his 6th year in MotoGP, and he's won 8 races, Jorge Lorenzo's two months into his 3rd and he's won 6. It's night and day between those two, is the way I see it. Dani's an extremely fast rider, but a shockingly poor racer. Q: Were you surprised at Jerez [2010] when Pedrosa fought back when Lorenzo passed him? JB: When did Dani fight back? With two laps to go, and he didn't even get close enough to try to come back. Dani has never been a fighter in races, he's a lovely kid, don't get me wrong, but you can see that Lorenzo, having Pedrosa in front of him, it was never going to be the way he was going to finish that race. He was going to finish on the ground or he was going to finish in front of Pedrosa. That's the sort of race that we want, we had that with Biaggi and Valentino, and from history with Schwantz and Rainey. All the good riders have always had somebody they have had to put the target on the back of. It was Doohan and Gardner, and Doohan won that battle hands down, and I think Jorge Lorenzo's going to win this battle [with Pedrosa] hands down.
kind of a dick! so his attitude to valentino being valentino has generally been a) well having enemies is good, actually, with an added slice of b) good luck to his enemies :) - see also this quote (from the barker biography) in the context of the gibernau rivalry:
And that made Rossi even more dangerous, as Jerry Burgess pointed out: ‘Valentino is the sort of rider I wouldn’t want to get angry. He can take you apart on the track.’
so yes, jb is also perfectly brutal in his own right, as you presumably have to be to work alongside valentino so closely for so long. he is, however, also somebody valentino has a massive amount of respect for, somebody who helped turn him into a legend and is responsible for a lot of vale's success - not least, of course, in the pivotal move to yamaha. he was replaced by a man of a far far lesser stature in the sport, one who presumably would have been grateful to valentino for the biggest job he was ever going to get. if briggs is right and there was a shift in valentino in 2015, surrounded as he was by italians (derogatory) who could not stand up to him, who allowed valentino to insist on war and peace on the pit boards, to focus more and more on things that had nothing to do with riding... it would be going a little too far to say that valentino was missing an adult in the room given he was, in fact, in his thirties and should have been capable of being that adult. and who knows what jb would have said or thought or done about the great big childhood hero deception theory. but sepang 2015 was the culmination of a lot of things, including a pressure cooker of a season that grew more and more tense and put more and more stress on everyone involved - perhaps for none more so than valentino. maybe, just maybe, if he'd had somebody around him with fifteen years of experience in handling him, who could have just occasionally told him to knock it off, to concentrate on the racing, to keep things simple (always jb's defining philosophy), to maybe not get so wrapped up in the great big spanish collusion theory...
or maybe it wouldn't have mattered! maybe we're getting cause and effect all wrong here; maybe valentino was deliberately fashioning his entourage into one that was only going to give him positive feedback. maybe he would have just stopped listening to jb, maybe the very decision to fire jb makes it clear he was no longer interested in what jb had to say. it's a tragedy, after all! maybe it was always going to go like this. maybe it was always going to end like this
speaking of entourages, marc's manager played a bit of a cameo role in fanning the flames just a little further (article from marca, 26/10/2015):
alzamora obviously will be somebody valentino is familiar with, having raced him in 125cc and also having just coexisted in the paddock over the years. valentino could of course be lying, but idk, why would he? he's already made his case by this point, and what if alzamora were to contradict him? if it's true and this conversation did happen, you do have to say it's a spectacularly unhelpful intervention from alzamora. even if marc was mad at valentino, why the hell are you telling valentino this AFTER sepang 2015? what's the plan here buddy
^ 1999 world champions: alzamora in 125cc, vale in 250cc and alex criville in 500cc. people think motogp lore is complicated but if you know like, five guys, you're set for about twenty years of drama
which does get to the heart of the matter - a lot of these people have big egos and their own agendas and they love to run their mouths. they like talking a big game and getting involved in things they really shouldn't be getting involved in. is reed right that these people in the riders' entourages 'created the drama'? well, no, I think the two men at the centre of this particular tragedy were plenty capable of doing that themselves. nevertheless, you can point to how professional sports (and motogp in particular) forces you to rely heavily on a small group of people to keep you sane at the centre of the storm, and the risks that can emerge when that small group collectively unmoors itself from reality. you can point to the perils of fame, both in making your reliance on your inner circle so unnegotiable as well as in providing you with the status and power and ego to ignore anyone who might wish to change your mind. you can point to specific figures in this story who managed to incite the conflict between the two of them, as well as how the pressure cooker competitive environment they were operating within helped set up the ultimate catastrophe. you can point to how valentino lacked anyone with the power to stop him - both in the direct sense of forcing him to reconsider and the indirect sense of commanding his respect enough to make him see sense. maybe, just like in 2004, valentino had simply been "looking for an excuse" and he was always headed down this path. or maybe if somebody had just held him back a little that year, kept him focused on his riding, maybe if the right person had intervened at the right time...
maybe, maybe, maybe. that's why it's a tragedy

Another serial killer had brought the team to the big apple, New York City.
And this particular unsub left lengthy and cryptic messages all over his crime scenes. Due to this, the NYPD had already called in a Linguistics specialist before the BAU arrived.
You were in your really early twenties and already had your doctorate and a PhD. You were the linguistics and behavioral traveling consultant whom the NYPD had called upon. You had just gotten back from a case over in Europe where you had been working with the Scotland Yard.
Meeting the BAU was almost like a breath of fresh air. One agent in particular, a perky blonde, who mad wit very clear that she was not usually in person on cases, left an impression. For once, you had a group of people in the room who could all keep up with you. Well, all except Dr. Alex Blake were a breath of fresh air…
Agent Blake was the linguistics specialist for the BAU who also had a doctorate and a PhD, although she was a considerable amount of years older than you (old enough to be your mother)…
From the moment you met the team, you could sense the tension in her voice.
“Dr. Alex Blake.” She firmly introduced herself with a nod.
~~~
“We have the conference room set up for you, let me know if there’s anything else.” The Captain told the BAU team and you.
“Thank you.” Hotch said, then directing his attention to his team, “Alright, we’re going to split up, Reid and JJ will go to the ME, Garcia and Morgan will go to the first crime scene, Rossi and I will go the second, and Blake will stay, analyzing the writings and what we already know, working with Dr. L/N.”
Alex pursed her lips and tensed up slightly at this.
“Everything alright, Blake?” Hotch asked.
The brunette agent merely nodded and then headed off into the conference room.
~~~
You had already gotten started on the unsub’s writing, when Dr. Blake stepped into the room, leaving the door behind her only slightly ajar.
“It seems we’ll be working together on this case…” you murmured aloud.
“It seems so…” the brunette hummed, making her way over to the paper filled table and partially organized bulletin board.
Her eyes scanned the papers, taking in your work so far.
“What have you found so far?” She asked.
You sighed lightly.
“Well… The writer is male, multi-cultural, probably multi-lingual, well educated. He is stressed, or at least governed by a good amount of negative emotions. And much more…” you huffed.
Dr. Blake raised her brows slightly at what you had already perceived.
“Why multi-lingual?”
“In his writings, the unsub uses multiple British English terms, as if that was what he was taught if English were his second language, and his word order is not as synonymous with an English language, but rather one of the romantic languages…” you explained.
Alex have you a hum in response.
~~~
The long day finally came to a end, meaning you finally got to retire to your hotel room for the night, which coincidentally happened to be the same hotel that the BAU team was staying at.
You rode the elevator up and walked down the floor to your room. On your way, you clocked the one and only Dr. Alex Blake a couple of doors down, entering a hotel room of her own.
Of course, she had a room in the exact same hotel, on the exact same floor, and only a few doors away from you…
You sighed, too tired to deal with the the thought of that brunette, so you simply entered your room and went to bed.
~~~
Your next day on the case wasn’t much better than the first, although you and Dr. Blake did make some progress with the unsub’s letters.
By noon, you were exhausted and hungry.
“I’m going to go down the street and grab a sandwich, do you want anything…?” You asked the older brunette.
“Sounds great, I’d love one…” she sighed, taking her eyes off the papers for the first time in hours.
“What would you like…?” You asked, while grabbing your bag.
“Pastrami and cheese would be great…” she hummed.
You hummed back in response, leaving out the door.
~~~
By the end of the night, neither you nor Dr. Blake could take a single look at any more papers, you were both so exhausted.
You turned in for the night, going back to your hotel room. But you found that the case kept you awake. At a certain point, you accepted that your mind wasn’t going to relent, so you got up and pulled out the case from your bag. But this didn’t help much either.
Suddenly, you heard a knock on the door. You grabbed a bath robe and went to answer the door. None other than Dr. Alex Blake stood in front of you…
“Couldn’t sleep. Thought you might be the same…” she tiringly explained.
You hummed in response.
“And I brought wine…” she added.
You chuckled, seeing Blake hold up a bottle of red and two glasses, “Come in.”
You pulled out the two chairs from the corner of your room with a small table, where you and the brunette sat yourselves with long sighs. The table still had your case files spread all over it. Alex opened the bottle and began pouring in silence. The first sips were also taken in silence. Like the world had paused for a moment…
“No new leads…?” Alex spoke up, breaking the silence, indicating to all the case files in the table.
You groaned slightly and rubbed your temples, “No… It’s like staring at an overdone crossword puzzle… Eventually everything you look at becomes stubborn and frustrating…”
Alex chuckled lightly at your comparison. Silence took the room again, the only sound being your drinking.
“You are quite good, you know…” Alex hummed.
You looked up at the woman in light shock. In the time that you had known the brunette, she never was one to give compliments…
“For your age…” She added on with a chuckle.
At that, you sent her a quizzical look. The alcohol was starting to take into affect…
“What’s that supposed to mean…?”
“You’re young, green, but you’re good.”
“Just because someone is young, doesn’t mean they aren’t inherently good at the job…” you huffed.
“I didn’t say that…” Blake clarified.
“No, but you implied it…” you muttered.
“Ok, do I believe that more seasoned agents are more likely to be better at the job? Yes. But that doesn’t make the newer agents inherently bad…” she rambled.
“But newer agents bring in new techniques, new ideas. They bring new motivation.” You argued.
“You seriously think you could top me 1 v 1…??” Blake chuckled.
Your breath hitched. Your pupils enlarged, and your gaze met the brunette’s.
Your mind went straight to the gutter with her choice of words…
“You think you can top me?” You challenged, with a seductive edge to your tone.
Blake cocked an eyebrow at your words and new direction in tone. When she didn’t answer, you got up from your chair and walked over to the brunette, trapping her in her chair with each arm on either side of her. You were in her face, grinning, and Alex was going to have none of that.
“Bend over.” She stated.
You were drawn a back a little.
“I… what…?” You stuttered.
“I said, Bend over…” she commanded.
You gulped. But you did as you were told. You bent over the older brunettes lap.
~~~
By the time Blake had finished, picked you up, and placed you in her lap— your ass was fiery red, arousal was dripping down your thighs, your face was flushed, and your breathing was rapid and erratic.
“I… that was… wow…” you stammered.
The brunette chuckled, before connecting her lips to yours. You moaned into the kiss eagerly, desperately grinding into her lap. You then quickly stood up, pulling Alex up with you. You began stripping, but she stopped you. Instead, she pushed you onto the bed, crawling on top of you.
“Don’t…” she purred, “I want to take my time with you…”
You sucked your breath in and nodded slowly.
“Yes please…” you whispered.
“Good girl…” Alex murmured, starting to kiss every available piece of skin she can reach.
~~~
Ch 9
So funny story, I definitely didn't forget to send the ask about this ch when it first went up 😅
This has been sitting in my notes for however long it's been
Gen wondering how the fuck I forgot about it 😒
So back to the usual
Had a lot of fun with this ch😁
Finally he won😭😭😭
Yessss
It was destined obviously
he can’t hear any boos, Marc wonders what that means.
I also wonder what that means🤔 have the Italians learnt to think finally?
Instead, he stares directly into the cameras as he confirms the truth of the articles
God I love that entire paragraph, I imagine he'll be someone to look up to for younger riders struggling with their mental health
I have been slandered by the press, stalked, and harassed.
Give me a list, I just wanna talk😁🔪
I will always be more than the comments and the press, but I am a real person, with real feelings, and a family who love me
Girl just how true that is when it comes to irl people don't treat celebrities like real people
Valentino compliments Marc’s race and his win, even suggesting that races like this were what made him one of the greats.
Claiming that he was sorry his actions had caused such turmoil in Marc’s life and asking the media to respect his privacy and be kind
Hope that's just the beginning of his apologies
As always loving dovquez
No, Rossi. Leave him alone for once in your life”
Protective, I like it😏
Marc cannot help the sense of contentment he feels, alongside the slither of sadness that he has been missing out on this
Sad, glad he has more people in his corner
Bez’s monologue is prematurely cut off by Pecco slapping a hand over his mouth, preventing him from saying much else.
No, we want to hear more😏
I was blinded by my jealousy and inadequacy.
Now if only he'd say that irl
Gonna answer this now!!
@cassndra93 my friend, I am so sorry. I read this, thought about replying, and then promptly forgot. It did make me so very happy to read though as per usual.
Very very glad you all liked the win!!!
Lmao the Italians finally gaining some comprehension skills??? Shocking (sorry if anyone's Italian guys, I fucking love Italy and Italians but for the sake of this fic , some vale fans are silly (irl too))
Ah I'm so glad you mentioned the interview paragraph with marc telling everyone how it is. I added that quite late on as I was writing as I thought it was fitting so I'm happy that you feel it added to the fic!
Actually hate how the media/fans treat celebs. People forget that they are real people and it drives me insane. So I defo wanted to have that as a theme of this fic.
Dw so much more Valentino moping and guily to come. Even after ch10 where he finally apologises properly. And the academy boys are fighting for him. Alex and dovi are also completely done with Valentino so yknow. Lots of people fighting for Marc now which makes me 🫶🏼😊😊
Soooo happy to hear your thoughts as always!!
canon starter call - open to anyone !
i have a strong urge to write some canon muses, so if you would be interested in writing against any of the canon muses listed under the READ MORE below, please comment/IM me and i can send a starter your way or reply to one of your starters.
i do not require you to know anything about my muse's canon, but i'm more than happy to tell you about it if you ask. i'd be happy to write canon muses against your ocs! also, mixing fandoms is 100% ok with me unless your canon muse is problematic and makes me uncomfy. my canon muses do not have all their memories or relationships from their life unless we plot it, but they will have the same general personality/ambitions.
if you are willing to write against my canon muses but don't care which, just like this post, and i'll take a look at your open starters and/or send you a closed starter at random with a muse i think fits the vibe.
*please don't agree to write against my canon muses if you're one of those picky weirdos that will be up in arms if i don't write a cannon muse exactly how you would.
( if you'd prefer to write against an oc muse only, check this post. )
Omg after anon mentioned Spencer crying at his wedding,,, now all I can think about is what his wedding would be like. I’m thinking super small, maybe outdoor in the springtime with a woodland feel. Do you have any scenarios/ideas on what it would be like?
I did do a couple of other posts on this but I have no idea where they are. Also prefacing this by saying that I think Spencer would let his fiancé have control of the wedding plans, these are my ideas of what he would do (as if he was having a wedding by himself) so if they’re totally not what you like, just know that he’d let you do whatever you wanted
I think relatively small, he doesn’t have a lot of family or childhood friends to invite. His guest list is mostly made up of the BAU and a couple of professors at colleges he’s gotten close to during his talks. I think he’d opt to have kids there and have Michael be his ring bearer
If we’re talking about BAU members, I like to think he got married in season 8 because it means he knows Alex and she could be there with his mom. Of course Emily would fly in from wherever she is. Rossi is the officiant since he’s a word man, Hotch and Morgan best men ?? because they’re all so close and Hotch is like his dad and could make the most beautiful speech about love but Morgan would have his bachelor party the best one ever
He wouldn’t want to get married in the peak of summer or winter because of the temperature issues and he’d maybe steer away from the dates in spring when it’s known to rain
I could see it being outdoors, like a wedding archway in the woods with cute seats around. Or a winery/vineyard with a gorgeous view of rolling green hills. Maybe an indoor venue because they have some very pretty greenhouses or he’d love to get married in a library/museum. I don’t see his preference being getting married on a beach or in a church
can i ask what drivers you write for? ive seen the drivers you accept requests for but i know that youve written fics for other ones. so is there like a list of drivers that you will pretty much always write, maybe write for, and then never write for if that makes sense?
That does make sense! I never really thought about making a list like that, but I of course can! Now these categories can change (though the drivers under never will most likely never change). The maybe category is more like I have to be in the mood (so to speak) to write for that driver.
Also I don't know if you just want current f1 drivers or not, so I'm just listing like any driver that I've written for/can think of that's had fics written for them. (under the cut, cause it's a lot of names)
Always: Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen, Ollie Bearman, Logan Sargeant, Jenson Button, Callum Ilott, Alexander Rossi, Daniel Ricciardo
Maybe: Pierre Gasly, Alex Albon, George Russell, Marcus Armstrong, Clement Novalak, Oscar Piastri, Mark Webber, Sebastian Vettel, Arthur Leclerc, David Malukas, Pato O'Ward, Jak Crawford, Frederik Vesti, Pepe Marti, Fernando Alonso, Lance Stroll, Felipe Drugovitch, Luke Browning, Dino Beganovic, Nico Rosberg, Liam Lawson
Never: Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris, Yuki Tsunoda, Carlos Sainz, Esteban Ocon, Zhou Guanyu, Valterri Bottas, Nico Hulkenberg, Kevin Magnussen, Kimi Antonelli, Franco Colapinto, Mick Schumacher,
Now, I have previously written a few fics for Lando (nearly a year ago) and he is in the 'never' category for the same reason as everyone else in that category, I just don't see him or any of those drivers that way. And I am past that point as a writer where I'm going to force myself to write for someone that I just don't see like that.
#sin answers#I think I got everyone#but I could be missing a few names lol#also can't wait for people to maybe go you don't see *blank* like that???#thank you anon for this ask!!! had never thought of doing this
Apologies in advance, because I'm gonna info dump on this post. I have briefly talked about this before, [my theory] is that the bar is a few days LATER.
I think, for a few reasons, what actually happened was that the bar scene was meant to take place days later -- and the passage of time wasn't made clear in the context of the scene. The entire episode actually spans a couple of days.
TIMELINE OF EVENTS IN '200' (All time stamps are in DC time) 10:19pm: JJ gets abducted
11.30pm - estimated: She's been gone long enough for Will to get worried. He has time to get to Quantico to alert Hotch, so I'd say it's been at minimum, an hour.
9.00am, next day: It's daytime when Hotch goes to the State department to try and get more information about Operation Integrity, so we're already looking at probably the next morning after JJ's gone missing.
10.00am: Hotch calls Emily after the State Department. It takes EIGHT hours to get to DC from London. Also note, London is five hours ahead of DC time. And based on when Emily arrives at the BAU, she got the call sometime before 3pm her time.
Early Evening: When the team first video conferences with Emily while she's in the air, it's still daytime out the jet window.But this is the same scene when they work out that 'Askari typically spends 24-hours with his victims'. Garcia says 'How much time does JJ have?' Hotch replies, 'A few hours' -- indicating it's probably late afternoon, waning into evening in DC.
Late Evening: (Following an establishing shot of Quantico at night) The next time we see Emily in the jet, it's dark out the window beside her. (Assuming the events of this episode correspond to the date the episode aired (Feb 2014), then the sunset in DC on that day was 5.35pm) It's at least after 5.30pm but most likely much later based on Hotch's estimate of JJ only having 'a few hours'.
10.30pm: When Garcia begins trying to locate JJ, she finds six hardlines that match what they're looking for, but she can't get a more specific ping. She says 'We don't have time, it's already been 24-hours'. Hotch says they'll have to work their way down the list, meaning they are going to hit six different sites (which will obviously take more time).
11.00pm: The team has already left, Garcia reitterates to Kevin it's been over 24-hours now. And Emily finally arrives - backtracking the timeline, she left around 3pm in London, arriving in DC around 11pm.
Garcia intercepts the BLACKBIRD distress signal at this point. She can trace it back, and specifies the code was sent 30 minutes earlier (around the 24-hour mark of JJ's abduction).
11.30pm - estimated: The next scene shows Rossi, Reid, Alex already int he SUV (they were already hitting the list of sites when Garcia finally narrowed it down). Because 'Luther and Broadchurch' isn't a real intersection anywhere near the DMV (according to my deep dives), I can't give you specific travel time from Quantico to the location JJ's being held at. (Emily is with them for the rescue, so we're putting Quantico as the start point on this one) -- we're gonna go with half an hour travel.
Midnight: By the time Emily and the team actually rescue JJ, the whole shootout on the roof occurs, and they get Emily gets JJ back down to the ambulance -- it's at least pushing midnight. And obviously, JJ would need to be medically checked out. So it makes absolutely NO sense that they'd be going to the bar THAT NIGHT.
Anyone who has ever been to an ER knows it can take HOURS to get seen, treated, discharged. Even if you're an FBI profiler who came in via ambulance, the woman was tortured for 24-hours. She is going to require medical attention.
Also -- even if we ignore the medical assessment, and say 'Oh, well some bars are open past midnight', they all clearly had time to change clothes and shower (JJ looks well put together in the bar).
In conclusion...
The bar scene is NOT the exact same night as when JJ was rescued. That's why everyone is in good spirits, it's a send-off party for Emily after a job well-done.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
im still mad they took jj to a bar as soon as she got rescued like???? i woulda took my wife tf home
Graveyard Siblings (2)
Alright, Here is the addition to the first post I made about Marinette having a somewhat of a similar backstory to Jason.
[Masterlist]
WARNING: the Revenge part have some suicide, death, physical abuse and bullying stuff mentioned. Extreme Lila Bashing.
--------
Marinette runs a business called Afterlife (I am bad with names, gimme a break) with Wayne Enterprise as a partnership. She is the mysterious designer MT.
Jagged knows about Marinette and the whole LB thing after one scare and an explanation and promotes it a lot.
The Waynes can’t believe that she knew Jagged Stone.
So Afterlife brand is taking off and is the hottest new thing since Jagged is wearing it and MT is apparently the mysterious newly adopted Wayne who hasn’t appeared in public much and the family’s personal designer.
Loads of Celebrity commissions.
Gabriel loses sales as the new line they launched ‘coincided’ with the launch of Afterlife’s newest fashion line called Karma.
I should mention that Edna Mode(?) and Audrey Bourgeois gave many praises to MT because they are amazing designs and to spite Gabriel a little bit.
Gabriel doesn’t panic yet. A lie
I haven’t talked about Lila much, have I? Let’s just say she got a visit from a ghost, well, several ghosts.
Remember that guy Marinette mentioned that could get her fake documents. It was John Costantine, who owes her a favor ( he owes her more than a few and he would do anything she asked for her brownies. )
Tim and Babs dig up dirt on Lila Rossi and their silence was brought with a delicious cake.(coffee flavored for Tim)
Gets John to do a little summoning for her.
------
(Suicide implied, death, bullying, You have been warned)
“~Lila~. ~Oh Lila~”
Lila turned to her other side, wishing the voice would shut up.
“Oh, Lie-la, sleeping so peacefully. So silent. I wish you would stay that way forever.” The voice said menacingly.
Lila’s eyes snapped wide open to come face-to-face with supposed to be dead Marinette Dupain-Cheng with a manic look. Did Marinette had red eyes before?
Lila screamed.
“Oh, it’s no use. No one will hear you. Remember when you said those words. To poor Bianca. Every day at lunch break in the old unused bathrooms when you beat her up for not doing as you say.”
A girl with long dark hair appeared. Covered in black and blue bruises. Looking at Lila with hate.
“Let’s not forget. Poor Tommy. Alex. Andrea. Wil. Gary. Nico. Freya. Magnus. Della…” As Marinette listed off names, more and more teens appeared, the youngest being a 10 year old girl.
They all had the same expression as Bianca. Utter hatred.
“And there is me. The latest in your long line of victims. Lie-la, how do you feel right now, looking at the casualties of your greed for fame and fortune? Your ‘enemies’. And you know that English saying, ‘The enemy of my enemy is my friend’.” Marinette gave a sinister laugh.
“You are dead. You were all supposed to be dead. This isn't real. This isn’t real.” Lila chanted, closing her eyes and covering her ears.
She felt cold fingers lifting up her face to meet red eyes, promising many Bad things.
“Sorry, sweetie. This is the cold harsh reality. You thought that you could get away with it. The deaths you caused with your filthy lies and ‘so-call accidents’. You danced on our ashes and you built your kingdom with our blood on your hands. I hoped you enjoyed it while it lasted. ”
The nails dug further into her face, drawing some blood and sure to leave some scars.
“Because, Lila Rossi, this is the last time you would know peace. And could you pass on a message to the Agrestes for me. Tell them that Death cannot hold back the wrath of Ladybug.” Turning to the other ghosts. “Get her.”
Marinette stepped back as the other teens pounced on her. Scratching, pulling, biting. Inflicting pain on Lila. She jumped out the window and landed next to John smoking.
“Thanks for everything. Will she be okay?” Lila’s screams can’t be heard due to a soundproof charm.
“She will wake up in the morning, a little sore thinking it was all a nightmare.”
“That is until she looks into a mirror. I left a little something to remind her that it actually happened. By the way, can you help me with this curse?” She said, pulling out a notebook.
“Let me see. Hmm.. Oh.. that’s a good one. Nice. Wow...You are very creative with curses, remind me to never get on your bad side. But are you sure about that last part?”
“Lila needs a lesson and as much as I hate her and wants her to suffer for the rest of eternity. She doesn’t deserve being tormented for the rest of her life. At least, she should learn that actions have consequences, especially for everything she had done so far.”
“You are too kind despite everything that has happened, Pigtails.”
“Doesn’t mean I am going to give you the resurrection spell I used.”
“You are no fun. You are as bad as Bats.”
--------
Lila’s curse is that she sees her victims when she leasts expects it. Alya, talking about her blog, is replaced with Bianca cracking her knuckles and about to punch Lila. In everyone else, it looked Lila screamed ‘Please don’t hurt me” to a confused Alya.
Lies some more to save face but the more she lies, the more the ghosts keep appearing. Some actually hurt her but there are no bruises or cuts to prove that it happened.
She is just so jumpy all the time and during photoshoots, Adrien gets replaced with a rotting corpse and every picture comes out with fear in her eyes.
Gabriel fires her after a million complaints.
Not before relaying Marinette’s message. “She cursed me. She came into my room and did this to me (pointing to the scars on her face.) She sent my dead classmates after me.”
“Who?”
“Ladybug. She told me to tell you that even Death cannot stop Ladybug’s wrath. So better watch your back, M. Agreste.”
(Gabriel didn’t feel threaten not at all. There is no such thing as ghosts. Sure magic is real with the Kwamis and the Miraculouses as proof. But ghosts? Those are just stories. Lila Rossi just had a nightmare that was too vivid for her. He definitely is not searching Google for warding them off. Especially revenge-seeking ones. He was just looking for inspiration. That MT caused a lot of trouble and sleepless nights for Gabriel but this next line was sure to be a success.) He was wrong.
No matter how many NDAs he made people signed and how much security measures he took. Afterlife seems to hosts fashion shows, launch new lines or their designs made the cover of a famous fashion magazine and SHOWING UP the GABRIEL brand EVERY! SINGLE! TIME!
Gabriel is rarely in the headlines these days and most of the billboards in Paris is filled with products from Afterlife (Chloe as a model with a mask to conceal her identity which adds to a mystery.) or WE.
He is super frustrated and a little desperate.
------
Got any ideas for revenge on Gabriel, Natalie and Adrien? Also the rest of the class?
(Part 3)
hello this is my official list of what i think every member of the bau would work with if they wouldn't work at the bau like if that wasn't a reality you get me
——
Jason Gideon: look i know this is technically canon but i truly do think he would be an author and would guest lecture a bit in his later years and like sure he could still write true crime books but also just regular crime novels i think this old man would just like to write
Jennifer "JJ" Jareau: i think she would work inside of the media, not in front of the camera necessarily but as a communicator or similarly inside of the media and the news. however i think there's a possibility of a divergence of path for her, i think its possible she could end up in a hostage situation due to her job in a similar situation like in neon terror and would start working out as a coping mechanism and like genuinely would pick up a (extra?) job as a personal trainer at her gym
Derek Morgan: firefighter. that's it i don't know what to say other than that, derek would 500% be a firefighter. there's nothing else. now that i think about it derek should've been a firefighter from the beginning fuck the bau this is his true calling don't even @ me
Elle Greenaway: similarly to JJ i think elle would work inside of the media but as an investigative journalist. well i think she would start out as a regular journalist but become an investigative journalist after a while because her drive would be too big you get me. also niche but i think that when she was a teen she was like briefly a singer like you know robin from how i met your mother but she would've made angry girl music
Aaron "Hotch" Hotchner: genuinely don't think this punk could stay away from the government so i think he would still work a fancy government job just not inside of the bau, maybe not even the fbi but i so think he'd still be in government. now what i have no idea because i know nothing about the government especially the american government seeing as im not even remotely american
David "Dave" Rossi: now i don't even know if this fucking counts but you know those really fancy shops that are like made of dark smelling wood and is called something extravagant with a cursive gold font and they sell like cigar or wine or herbal products or like mustache wax or whatever the fuck you know the places im talking about. i think rossi would work there and be that old man at the counter who will come up and talk to you and you have no idea if he just works there and is really invested in this stuff or if he owns the place or just a really weird costumer but then he's the one you pay too so you assume it's his but the moment you step out of the store you've forgotten his face and you never want to go back there but you always think about it once a month or something. if you don't know what kinda place im talking about consider yourself lucky
Penelope Garcia: if the bau wasn't even a prospect here there's no question that penelope would still be a hacker illegally and make most of her money from there but i also think that she would work in a small second hand shop with lots of old trinkets and clothes and stuff just because she genuinely thinks it's fun to work there and also the old woman who owns the shop lets her be on the computer when there's no costumers in the store. i just think she would sit there in her cupcake dress next to a ceramic old cat from the 1930s talking to bernice about her grandson while hacking jeff bezos on her computer
Spencer Reid: now it's time for spencer all over the place reid who i think would work at like one of those really prestige but still public libraries where like everyone is welcome but they have like locked rooms with super valuable books and stuff and he kinda does whatever there bc sometimes he gives tours talking about thr history of the building and stuff and sometimes you find him at the counter ready to guide you to the specific book you're looking for plus twenty other recommendations you should read if you like this book and sometimes you find him in a window reading and his coworkers politely ignore he's had his "break" for three hours now bc he guided 17 tours yesterday (only ten were scheduled) and they suspect he mightve slept here. plus in his spare time i think he would do some independent work to keep him stimulated with stuff but that's not a fully developed idea yet
Stephen Walker: this might be controversial but i think stephen would be a guidance counsellor at like a school and i don't know why but he has the vibe and i think he would be quite good at it. maybe he just gives me more official jawbone vibes from dimension 20
Emily Prentiss: i firmly believe this woman cannot hold down a job for her life. i think the bau and interpol were flukes in her reality because im quite certain emily would physically not be able to keep one job for longer than a year. if you mention a job she's probably done it. she's done everything from high positions in government to bagging groceries to leading seminars to breeding puppies. listen emily prentiss is a lesbian ex goth trust fund kid (like canonically yall). i think right now she's working with the lights for a theatre production and she's liking it and seems to have a knack for it
Tara Lewis: this one's out there but i think she would work as a principal at a university (do universities have principals?). but like the one who's in charge of a school but like advanced studies with like adults study after they've already studied if you know what i mean. idk i just think that's what she would be
Luke Alvez: hate to do this to luke but he would simply just be a cop. or like a detective (that's like a promotion for a cop in america right? bro my knowledge extends to brooklyn 99 and brooklyn 99 only). i hope this is because i feel like luke is the serious crime version of jake peralta and jake is the sitcom version of luke. anyway, cop
Matt Simmons: this is my magnum opus but bro i think he would be a podcaster. i think he would do a podcast with kristy. for everyone who follows my blog think justin and sydnee mcelroy but matt is sydnee. i think they would have a little podcast together. after his unit at the fbi (?) got got by linda barnes i think he would retire home and start doing podcasting full time with kristy. this is my hot take
Kate Callahan: because such a central part of kate's personality/backstory is that her sister died in 9/11 i think that kate would've been a nurse. specifically a nurse not a doctor and i don't think it's because a lack of competence or anything like that fuck u no i genuinely think kate wanted to be a nurse and chose to study to become that. her hours would still be crazy but maybe meg isn't as worried about her now
Ashley Seaver: i don't have a lot for seaver but i think she would work in local government more centralised like those guys from parks and rec and yes i realise ive made way too many references that some people might not understand but here we are. i think seaver would do whatever leslie does in parks and rec or something like that
Alex Blake: this is just a formality to have her on here because she's literally a linguistics professor in the show
Do you have any headcanons about Alex Blake? So little is known about her really and I don’t think she got enough character development so I always like to see other people’s headcanons about her ☺️
Yes, I do indeed! This was fun and I may do more in the future.
has a chocolate addiction, especially bounty’s (coconut chocolate). rossi stole one from a pot on her desk one time and she didn’t speak to him for the rest of the day.
is not a morning person. two cups of coffee before she even THINKS about talking to someone. whoever arrives at the precinct first makes sure to have a cup of coffee ready for her.
showers > baths.
sport was a big thing in her family growing up and she totally screams at the tv whenever she watches a game. she did once wake up JJ and reid who were in the rooms either side of her from shouting so loudly (JJ came in and watched the rest of it with her). now her, morgan, and JJ watch games together when they can.
this is kind of canon already - but she isn’t a fan of being touched/touching others. she’s more touchy outside the office but even then it’s only with certain people and she’s the one instigating it.
romantic partners are an exception though. doesn’t like pda but in private she’s constantly finding pretty much any way to make contact with them.
holds her liquor well! outdrank rossi (barely but she did it and she holds it like a badge of honour). bourbon/scotch if she’s drinking properly. a glass of wine after a hard day. not really a fan of vodka or gin but will still drink it.
if you tell her she can’t do something she will go above and beyond to prove she can (that’s how the drinking competition started with rossi).
her first girls night she was super nervous but after a bottle of wine (garcia’s choice) she was confessing things about her sex life that had both JJ and garcia squealing (the girls gained a lot of respect for her that night - also added a few things to their lists of things to try).
her and reid once compiled a list of really obscure words and set a challenge to see if they could use them in conversation without anyone commenting on it - they giggled together every time they managed it and the team were concerned they’d gone insane.
bonus:
LIKES WOMEN. she is not straight. (we all know she had an affair with strauss).
hi cate! so i’m just curious, the members of the bau have thier own ‘specialty’ in their job, for example, emily in linguistics and morgan in explosives… what do you think will be your specialty if you were in the bau? :)
oo this is a cool question
i haven't really thought about this before, maybe linguistics because it's something i find interesting but also geo-profiling would be cool because i'm kind of a geography nerd. and i think explosives or hostage negotiation would be cool to specialize in.
i had to do some googling to figure out everyone's specialties and if you're interested:
Emily: Linguistics, Child Advocacy, Terrorism
Spencer: not really listed as having one since he knows everything, but it's mentioned he does the geo-profiling
Rossi: Hostage Negotiation
JJ: not really mentioned as having one as a profiler but still Media/Police liaison
Hotch: again not mentioned as having one but he's the team leader
Morgan: Obsessional crimes, Explosives
Tara: Forensic Psychology
Luke: fugitive hunting
Alex: Linguistics
Elle: Sex crimes
Kate: Undercover operations
Matt: Geo-profiling
Walker: Counterintelligence
updated rules and fandoms!!
hello hello, it’s been a while. i kinda wanna get back into writing more serious pieces, so i figured it was time to re-open my requests and post my updated fandoms and rules to see if anyone wants anything!! below you will find my new rules and my fandoms, alongside the characters i will write for!! please take a look if you want something and let me know!!
MY REQUEST RULES:
-i tend to only write one off pieces, but if i feel like a piece has potential, or tons of people seem to be really into a concept, then i am open to writing multiple parts!
-i tend to try and write my pieces from a gender-neutral stance. however, if you would like a specific gender of reader, please don’t hesitate to let me know and i shall specify that in the little summary at the start of the piece!
-all my pieces are x reader!! i don’t tend to use named ocs for my pieces, as i want my pieces to be accessible to everyone!!
-idk if smut pieces are even allowed on here anymore? but if they are, i can have a go, they just might be kinda bad bc it’s not something i have a ton of experience writing?
-i accept aus, sentence prompts, vague ideas, whatever you have. just remember that the more specific you are in your request, the better job i’ll do with bringing your vision to life!!
-for the characters below, assume i’ll write platonic (friendship), familial or romantic pieces for all of them, unless specified otherwise!! i am also open to having the reader be related to another character (e.g. an oc that’s one character’s sister and is romantically paired with another one!)!
-the only things i won’t write is stuff that is incredibly triggering, illegal age gaps and stuff that is obviously distasteful. anything that i think may be mildly triggering in a piece will be tagged at the start of the post!
-please be patient with requests!! my motivation to write does tend to go up and down, depending on my mood!! if it’s been like a month and i’ve not written your request, please don’t hesitate to send in a message checking up on me!!
MY FANDOMS AND CHARACTERS I WILL WRITE FOR:
CRIMINAL MINDS -david rossi [please send requests in for him, i love this man so much??] -spencer reid -aaron hotchner -derek morgan -jennifer ‘jj’ jareau -penelope garcia -emily prentiss -elle greenaway -alex blake -kate callahan -luke alvez -tara lewis -matt simmons
there’s some other more minor characters i’m willing to write for like will, so feel free to ask if there’s a specific character you want that’s not on this list! just please note i won’t write for gideon, strauss or any unsubs!!
CSI: NY -mac taylor -danny messer -adam ross -lindsay monroe -don flack -stella bonasera -sheldon hawkes -sid hammerback (will only write platonic/familial pieces for him)
will write for jo when i rewatch her seasons!!
CSI: MIAMI -horatio caine -tim speedle -eric delko -ryan wolfe -calleigh duquesne -alexx woods -yelina salas
might write for other characters when i get to their seasons on my rewatch!
DOCTOR WHO -the thirteenth doctor -graham o’brien (will only write platonic/familial pieces for him!) -ryan sinclair -yaz khan -dan lewis -the tenth doctor -the eleventh doctor -the twelfth doctor -the ninth doctor -rose tyler -martha jones -donna noble -amy pond -rory williams -clara oswald -nardole -bill potts -kate stewart -petronella osgood -river song
only tend to rewatch jodie’s seasons atm so i will be better at writing those characters!!
and that’s all for now!! if you would like to request something, please send me a message, including the following pieces of information: -the fandom -the character -your prompt -any other information that you’d like me to know! (i.e. if you want the reader to be a particular gender, if you want the reader to be related to a specific character, etc!!)
thank you for reading!! stay safe, and i look forward to writing some stuff for you!! <3
A Thin Line
spencer reid x reader
Best years part 4 | part three | part two | part one
summary: the team takes on a case in California involving home invasions. the reader has a surprise for her when they get back.
warnings: normal criminal minds things, mentions of racism and sexism (are those warnings idk)
A/N: based on season 7 episode 15; this ones cute ngl
“I think you should tell Spencer,” Penelope said turning in her swivel chair to Y/N who was sitting behind her.
“Tell him what, ‘Hey Spence, guess what, this girl who tormented me through my college life has come back to haunt me.’ Yeah, okay,” she said, shaking her head. She took a sip of the coffee in her mug, “And besides, there’s nothing really to tell him, she could just be trying to scare me, she loves to play mind games.”
“Well, you should at least tell him what’s going on, you’ve received two more notes from her since the night that you called me, and it’s been almost a month,” Y/N sighed knowing that Penelope was right. “And you guys have been going out for that long now, so I’m sure he’ll understand if you don’t want to tell him all about your past right away.”
“You’re right,” Y/N said, her finger trailing along the rim of her mug as she thought about when she should tell him.
“And you should also tell Hotch.”
“Tell Hotch? Why would I need to tell him?” Y/N asked looking up at Penelope.
“I think it would just be smart, you know in case something happens,” Penelope responded with a small sigh, remembering back to the whole Emily situation and what happened when she didn’t tell them.
“I’ll tell him if I get another note.”
“Okay, good,” Penelope said, then she smiled and began to get really excited. “So, you have to tell me, how have you and the good doctor been doing?”
Y/N giggled as she watched her friend get excited about her relationship. “It’s been going good, we’ve gotten to know each other a lot more on our dates, the other night we went to this museum, and at first I didn’t think that would be a cool place to go on a date, but then it turned out really romantic,” Y/n smiled as she thought back to the night of the date. Spencer’s hand grasping her’s as they roamed the halls of the museum. Her eyes trained on him as he spoke about the parchments in a case or as he explained in depth about the artifact on the wall.
“Oh my gosh, that’s so adorable!” Penelope exclaimed, clapping her hands together excitedly. “Have you two kissed yet?”
“No, we haven’t, but I’m not rushing this, I don’t want to rush it.”
“Oh my- that is so mature, look at you, you're all grown up,” Penelope said, taking Y/N’s face in her hands squeezing her cheeks together. “I remember when you first joined the team, your 26-year-old self all antsy and ready to catch some serial killers. Now, look at you! 27 and so grown up I-”
“I’m 28 actually,” Y/N corrected Penelope with a laugh.
“Did we miss your birthday?” Penelope asked with a guilt written face.
“Yeah, but don’t worry about it, birthdays are just days,” Y/N said trying to reassure her friend.
“Don’t worry about it? You and Spencer both, he did the same thing awhile back on his birthday,” Penelope said referring back to when Spencer had turned 30. “And they’re not ‘just days’, it’s the day that you were born, they are wonderful days! We need to do something for it, when was it?”
Y/N just shook her head with a laugh before standing, “It was last week, but we really don’t have to do anything.” She tried to explain to the bubbly woman in the chair.
“No, we do, we are going to have dinner together as a family, and you are going to like it,” she stopped her rant when she saw her case alert go off and a text from Hotch. “Right when you get back from this case.”
--------
Y/N walked into the round table room smiling at her co-workers then making eye contact with Spencer. “Hi,” she said with school-girl glee as she took a seat next to him.
“Hi,” he said back, the light blush on his face growing.
“Y/N and Spencer, sittin’ in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-,” JJ began to sing the schoolyard rhyme.
“Shut up,” Y/N said giggling looking at the blonde who just laughed at her.
“Alright let’s get started,” Hotch said, taking his seat Derek and Emily following closely behind him.
“San Bernardino, California,” Penelope began as everyone opened up their tablets with the case file. “Two home invasions in less than a week, only a block apart, exact same M.O… Both houses were burgled, power and phone lines cut, and they broke in through a back window.”
“In each case, the entire family was shot and killed?” Spencer asked, eyebrows raised at the thought.
“Yes, that is right. I present to you the Mitchells and the Lewis family,” Penelope grabbed her remote from beside her, pulling the pictures of the family up on the screen.
“They took out the power and phone so what, they could feel isolated?” Y/N asked.
“The alarm system wouldn’t work and they couldn’t call for help,” Rossi explained the probable reasoning for why the power was cut.
“Most modern alarm systems have a backup generator and a cell phone connection to the security company,” Spencer said wondering why this didn’t happen in this scenario.
“Yeah, but the Mitchells had an older system, and the Lewis’ were behind on their account, so it was inactive,” Penelope explained.
“An assailant was killed in each case?” JJ asked, looking at Penelope next to her.
“Affirmative, but the sheriff hasn’t I.D.’d them yet.”
“So both families were armed, and fought back and shot one of their attackers,” Emily said looking around the table.
“Is that a coincidence or a connection?” Derek asked looking over to Emily.
“What concerns me is the frequency of the kills,” Hotch said looking up from his tablet.
“Only four days apart,” Y/N said looking at the dates.
“Alright, it’s a long flight, we better get going, wheels up in 30.” Everyone stood up and headed out of the room to grab their go-bags.
-------------
“Brian Mitchell was an avid hunter and Matt Lewis was an Iraq war vet, so it doesn’t surprise me that they both owned guns,” Y/N said looking up from her tablet.
“Last year, southern California’s inland empire ranked fourth in the nation in foreclosure rates. Typically, as the economy falls, the crime rates will rise,” Spencer said.
“Times are tough, desperate people do desperate things,” Rossi said, agreeing with Spencer’s statement.
“Greetings all,” Penelope said as she appeared on the screen. “Your herald bears tidings.”
“What you got, Mama?” Derek asked as he turned to the screen.
“The sheriff I.D.’d both the dead home invaders,” Penelope began to type on her computer pulling up some of the files. “First up is Alex Collison, twenty. Made an impressive list of bad life decisions before he croaked, included but not limited to...possession, a couple of drug charges, a card-carrying member of the Verdugo heights boys.”
“They’re gang members,” JJ realized as she listened to what Penelope was saying.
“Oh, he was, but slow your roll, home-girl,” Penelope said before she told of the next victim. “Because next up is Ronald Underwood, 19. Zero records, unless you want to count some volunteer work. Straight-A student, putting himself through school.”
“Not exactly the home invasion type,” Emily said.
“Both from a poor area of town, grew up a mile apart,” Hotch said while he looked down at the tablet in his hands.
“Hard to actually tell from the crime scene photos of how many assailants there actually were,” Y/N said as she swiped through the photos.
“Well, if it was gang-related, there could be a lot of them,” Emily said looking at Y/N.
“The homes that got invaded were on the other side of town, a predominantly white area full of middle-class families,” JJ explained the demographics.
“Hey, guys,” Penelope said, bringing the attention to her. “The M.E. report just came in, both of them had high levels of oxycodone in their system.”
“That’s strange. Violent crimes like these are normally associated with stimulant drugs,” Spencer said puzzled as to why that was.
“Like meth?” Y/N asked turning her head to look at Spencer next to her.
“Yeah, like meth.”
“Underwood’s as straight as an arrow,” Derek began. “Collison’s a garden-variety gang-banger. I grew up with knuckleheads like that, high-risk break-ins, and oxy, that’s not their M.O.”
“Regardless, we need to get ahead of it. The press has got a community on the verge of panic,” Hotch explained. “JJ and I will coordinate with the sheriff’s office, I want the rest of you at the crime scene.”
------------
Y/N walked into the home of the Lewis’, inspecting all the blood on the walls. It almost felt like she could hear them scream for help and she so desperately wanted to go back in time and save them from all this. The shattered family photos and the torn-up house just made her feel so unsettled.
Y/N turned as she had finished with the room she was in and headed out meeting Emily in the hallway.
“You alright?” She asked as she saw Y/N’s sad face.
“Yeah, just family annihilators, they always hit me differently, you know?” She said as they turned and walked down the hall towards the stairs.
“Ballistics confirmed that the rest of the Lewis family was shot with the same 357,” Spencer said as he turned and watched Y/N and Emily walk down the stairs together.
“So if it was a gang, there was only one shooter,” Rossi stated after processing the information he had just received.
“The second and third victims were Trisha Lewis and six months old Blake,” Emily said.
Spencer shook his head at the thought of a six-month-old being killed.
“The injury patterns suggest that Mrs. Lewis tried to shield the baby with her own body,” Y/N said with a sigh trying not to let herself get worked up.
“Matt Lewis was found right here,” Rossi said with his hands pointed to the floor. “Ronald Underwood just over there-” he pointed to the blood spot to his left- “Underwood was shot eleven times in the head and abdomen.”
“But Lewis himself only had a single gunshot wound to the head at almost point-blank range?” Spencer questioned.
“How did someone get that close?” Y/N asked looking between Rossi and Spencer.
“He could’ve been subdued first,” Emily proposed.
“The M.E. didn’t find any signs of a blitz attack or struggle,” responded Spencer.
“Well, it had to be an ambush of some kind,” Derek said as he inspected some of the walls with blood spatter. “Probably when he was confronting Underwood.”
“But that’s almost impossible based on where the body was found,” Spencer said looking over at Derek.
“It’s right in the middle of the room,” Emily said as she looked at the bloodstains.
“It’s too out in the open to surprise somebody,” Y/N said agreeing with Emily.
“Matt Lewis wasn’t shot here,” Rossi said as he pointed to the spot where the body was found.
“No, but someone moved the body to make it look like he was,” Spencer said.
“Forensic countermeasure designed to make us think that these guys died in a gunfight that never occurred,” Derek said as he realized what probably happened.
“Bullet and blood everywhere, too messy for an accurate reconstruction,” Rossi said.
“Okay, so the unsub gets the drop on Matt Lewis,” Y/N said as she pointed to where Matt Lewis was found. “He then kills the rest of the family, and then leaves behind a drugged-up patsy to cover his tracks?”
“This wasn’t a burglary at all. There was a higher purpose here, they’re staging the crime scene as some kind of message,” Spencer said.
“This guy’s trying to make it look like black kids from the hood are killing white families, in white neighborhoods,” Derek said.
“Pretty powerful message,” Emily said.
“No kidding,” Y/N added as she shook her head.
The five finished up in the house and decided to head back to the station
“You good?” Spencer asked her as they walked out of the house, noticing how she was looking a bit upset.
“Yeah, yeah, I just can’t believe what happened in there really, family annihilators you know they just get to me, this one more than the others,” she explained to him.
“Yeah, this one is sad, I get it,” he said as he looked at her. “But we’ll catch him like we always do, and if you’re lucky you’ll get to put the cuffs on him.” The last statement was a hope to make her smile because he loved her smile so much.
It worked.
A smile crept up to Y/N’s face. “I might just do that.”
-----------
Y/N sat in the station the next morning. Head laying on her arms as she looked at the crime board on the wall. Another family had been killed last night, so they had been added to the board.
She stared at the victims of the first two families, they looked so much like hers. She saw herself in the shoes of the young girls, the memories of her childhood overwhelmed her. She lifted her head up and rubbed her face with her hands lightly, not wanting to rub the makeup on her face off.
The feeling of a warm hand on her back made her pull her face out of her hands. She looked beside her and saw Spencer as he sat down after taking his bag off, a coffee in his hand.
“You didn’t bring any for me, I see how it is,” Y/N said with a fake hurt expression on her face as she leaned into the back of her chair.
“Actually-” he pointed to her right side- “I did think of you.”
Her heart fluttered, “You sure know the way to my heart Spence.” She grabbed the large coffee cup and took a sip from it. The warm liquid running down her throat soothing her.
“Hey love birds, we’re about to give the profile,” Derek said leaning into the room they were in. The two stood up and made their way to where the rest of the team was.
“We believe we’re looking for a white male, in his late twenties to early thirties,” Hotch said, beginning the profile.
“Wait, wait, wait,” A deputy said quickly. “I’m sorry, I thought we were looking at black gang-bangers?”
“The unsub has been staging the crime scenes to make it look like black gangs and undocumented immigrants were responsible,” Derek said to the deputy.
“Why would anyone do that?” The deputy asked.
“We think he’s trying to create some racial conflict,” Y/N said hoping that was the best way to answer.
“In 1969, Charles Manson orchestrated the Tate-La Bianca murders, in the hopes of creating a race war between the blacks and whites that he referred to as Helter Skelter,” Spencer explained.
“A name he stole from a Beatles song,” Rossi added, the comment only being funny to the team since they knew that Rossi’s friends with Ringo.
“Members of the Manson Family left watermelon rinds at the scene of the crime and also painted panther paws on the wall in blood in the hopes of convincing authorities that the black panther was responsible,” Spencer continued on his explanation.
“Hate groups like the Aryan Nation believe that race war is not only inevitable but necessary,” Hotch said looking over the see of officers.
“Our unsub may be a member of one of these groups,” Emily added.
“Aryan gangs have a strong presence in prisons, so he may be an ex-con or even possibly related to a convict,” Y/N said.
“We think he may also be some kind of zealot,” Rossi began. “He believes his war is already being fought, and these murders are a mission to him.”
“And like a soldier, he is willing to put himself in harm’s way,” JJ added.
“The unsub may also be vulnerable somehow, weak mind, or even lonely. His cause gives him a sense of power and belonging,” Spencer said giving more depth to who the unsub might be.
“He’s physically fit enough to move dead bodies, so he’s probably young,” Derek said.
“But not too young as to be impulsive,” Y/N added quickly.
“These attacks took planning and focus. So, he’s disciplined,” Rossi said.
“He uses oxycodone to drug his unwilling partners,” Spencer explained.
“He does this without killing them, which shows that he is knowledgeable about dosages,” Y/N said.
“And oxy is expensive, so look at medical care professionals and caregivers, anyone with access to prescription drugs,” Emily said.
“This unsub is dedicated and driven, it makes him especially dangerous. Surrender is not likely part of his strategy,” Hotch said as the profile came to a close.
---------
“Hey Hotch, Y/N,” Derek said as he walked over to the two that were sitting at a desk going over some geographics to help Spencer with his profile. “There’s a mayoral race in town, and there’s a guy named Clark Preston all over the news.”
“Looks like he’s running a close second,” Y/N said as she looked at the tablet in Derek’s hand.
“Yeah, and check this out,” He scrolled down and clicked on the video.
“These vicious home invasions are a sign of the times,” Clark Preston said in the video. “As demographics change, so do crime rates. Now we may not be able to slow the browning of America, but we can sure as hell take our city back. And if you elect me, I’ll lead that charge.”
“The browning of America?” Y/N asked with astonishment.
“That’s a damn near hate speech,” Derek said as he looked at Hotch.
“He’s using the murders to further his campaign and I guess people are rallying behind it,” Hotch said.
“So what if our unsub is nothing like Manson? Manson never got his hands dirty, what if our unsub is more like his followers?” Derek proposed.
“You think he’s being manipulated?” Y/n asked pulling her legs up in the seat she was sitting in.
“Maybe even unintentionally, but either way, rhetoric like this could fuel his fire,” Derek said.
“We should talk to Preston,” Hotch said, nodding to the tablet.
“I already sent a car,” Derek told Hotch.
“Good,” was Hotch’s short response. “Y/N, do you mind talking to him with us, your knowledge in political science might help,” Hotch said turning to the woman in the chair.
“Sure,” she said with a nod.
“I can’t tell you how happy I am you’re here gentleman,” Preston said, not even acknowledging Y/N in the room. “Maybe now someone will stop these savages, what can I do to help.”
Derek looked at Y/N with one raised brow in question, after noticing that the politician in the chair wouldn’t even look at her. She just shook her head while she shrugged her shoulders and listened to what Hotch was saying.
“We were hoping to talk to you about some of your rhetoric,” Hotch asked as he looked at Preston across from him.
“My rhetoric,” Preston said, it wasn’t a question just him repeating what Hotch said hoping he heard him right.
“We believe the recent murders maybe hate crimes,” Derek said walking closer to Preston.
“Some of the things you say, well they maybe be construed as inflammatory,” Y/N said while she moved spots to stand behind Hotch.
“Agent Y/L/N’s referring to some of your recent campaign speeches and the references to the murders,” Hotch explained.
“We believe that whoever’s responsible for these crimes is impressionable and may be responding to the vitriol,” Derek said.
“You think I’m responsible?” Preston asked, turning to look at Derek.
“Nobody said that,” Y/N said crossing her arms. Preston never even looked at her when she spoke.
“If this person is motivated by racist sentiments, then what you are saying publicly may be affecting him,” Hotch explained making Preston turn his attention towards him.
“You’re profilers right?” Preston asked.
“Right,” Hotch responded.
“You study behavior, not actual facts,” Preston’s comment made Y/N sigh. “And then you come up with theories.”
“It’s really, not that simple,” Y/N said as she looked at the man. For the first time, he looked at her, and then he rolled his eyes at her statement.
“I’m sorry, who are you a secretary or something?” The blood in Y/N’s body boiled with rage at the question. She then watched Preston turn to Derek, “I’ll bet you had to work extra hard to get in the bureau, didn’t you? Probably still have to prove yourself on a regular basis. I respect that. I wish there were more like you.” He took small pauses in between each statement.
The man stood up from his chair and began to head towards the door. “I’ll cut back my media appearances, for now. But I suggest you start proving some of those theories of yours. And get some of those hard-working men to arrest those punks doing this.”
The way he said men made Y/N want to punch him so bad that she had to fit the urge to walk over to him and do just that.
“You gentlemen enjoy your day,” Preston then let himself out, once again not acknowledging Y/N.
“We should check out his list of contributors and his staff, it might be somebody in his camp,” Hotch said standing up from his chair.
“We need to check him out, too,” Derek said.
“No kidding,” Y/N said stilled enraged by the man. “Did you see what he was doing? Or more like wasn’t, he wouldn’t even acknowledge my presence and than he dared to ask me if I was a secretary.”
“The guy is no doubt a racist and is also very sexist,” Derek said.
“Oh yeah for sure,” Y/N said as she walked over to Derek by the door.
“Come on Pretty girl, don’t let him get you all riled up,” Derek said to her as they walked out of the room.
“I know, I know, it just makes me angry,” Y/N said as she and Derek walked over to the area where the rest of the team sat.
“What makes you angry?” Spencer asked as she sat down beside her.
“Clark Preston, not only is he a racist, and let that be known when he spoke to Derek, but also he is majorly sexist,” she grabbed a paper cup from the middle of the table and then poured herself some water. “The whole time we were speaking to him, he didn’t even look at me, and the one time he did he rolled his eyes and asked me if i was a secretary.”
“Are you serious?” Emily asked with disbelief.
“That’s ridiculous,” Spencer said while he shook his head.
“Uh-huh, you know Derek if he is a part of this, you know what would make me so happy,” She said as she turned to Derek.
“What’s that?” He asked her.
“If we got to arrest him, but I want to put the cuffs on him, just to let him know that a woman has power over him,” she said with authority.
Derek laughed before agreeing and promising her that if Preston was a part, they would do that.
The team sat scattered at various desks around the station they were at. Y/N stood next to Emily and Spencer as they looked over some maps of the area. Rossi sat at a large desk to left and Derek in a desk behind them towards the right.
“Hey, talk to me, doll face,” Derek said answering his phone to talk to Penelope, everyone’s attention now drawn to Derek and the woman on the phone.
“I got some dirt on your mayoral candidate, Clark Preston,” she spoke.
“He’s a politician, that shouldn’t be hard,” Rossi said as he walked over to be closer.
“Yeah, he’s a real estate lawyer who ran for city council last year and lost,” Penelope explained. “And he’s rich, as in if money was dirt he’d be filthy. He quadrupled his net worth in the last ten years, mostly from real estate.”
“So he managed to thrive despite the area’s economic downturn,” Spencer said in realization.
“What do you mean by mostly?” Y/N asked leaning closer to Derek’s phone so that she could be heard.
“Well, he is on the board of several financial institutions. Hedge funds, pension funds, oh, he likes to shuffle his money around. Even found some offshore accounts of his, I did,” she said giving what other dirt she could find on Preston.
“You only do that if you’re trying to hide it,” Emily said.
“What about his staff and contributors?” Spencer asked the woman on the phone.
“Uh-uh. No, they’re clean,” she said.
“Alright thanks, Garcia,” Derek said before he hung up the phone.“Preston’s a part of this, me and Y/N both think so.”
“Yeah you should have seen him in there,” Y/N said as she turned to Emily.
“He’s sexist, racist, and a little shady, maybe, but a murderer?” Emily asked as she looked between the two.
“It may be just a feeling, but I know he’s in this, we just need to figure out how,” Derek explained.
------------
The next morning the team arrived to bad news, as another family was killed earlier that morning. Surprisingly this time, the guy the unsub would have left for the blame got away.
“His names Ramon Gomez, he’s an undocumented immigrant from Mexico City and he’s pretty freaked out,” JJ said as her, Y/N, Derek, Spencer, and Emily stood in front of the room Ramon was in.
“That’s pretty understandable,” Y/N said while she folded her arms over herself.
“Was he able to give a description of the unsub?” Spencer asked as he looked at JJ.
“Uh, just of the vehicle, his English is not that good,” JJ explained. “We put an APB out.”
Emily nodded her head, then turned to walk into the room with Ramon in it. “Hole, mi nombre es Emily Prentiss,” she said to Ramon.
The four others stood outside and watched as she interacted with the man sitting at the table.
“This poor guy,” Y/N said as she looked at the frightened man sitting at the table.
The three beside her hummed in agreement as the continued to watch and somewhat listen to what Emily was saying to Ramon. He pulled his arm out showing scars on his arm. He then got a look of realization on his face as he remembered more.
Emily then thanked him and walked out of the room to the other four.
“He remembers hearing a train and then loud music,” she said as she came to the four standing.
“That’s something, let’s get started,” Y/N said and the five began walking towards the area they had been working in.
“There are approximately two hours between Ramon’s abduction here-” Spencer pointed to one spot on the map- “and his escape here. He crossed the train tracks here. Now, given the time and distance parameters, there’s no way the unsub could have ventured outside this radius.”
“Okay, so he said the train was close, and he heard laughter and loud music,” Emily said.
“I looked at points of interest next to the train tracks and there really isn’t much. There’s a warehouse, a taco stand that would have been closed, and a bar called the drunken dog ” Spencer explained.
“Why stop there? He need a drink?” Rossi asked.
“He doesn’t seem like the drinking type,” JJ said.
“Yeah, he’s not impulsive or sloppy enough,” Y/N said sticking her hands into the back pockets of her pants.
“I live to serve you, sir,” Penelope said as she answered Hotch’s call.
“Garcia, what can you tell us about a bar called The Drunken Dog?” Hotch asked.
“Ooh, I like it already. Let’s see- uh- it’s been around thirty years. It was opened by a warehouse worker named Manny Gresham, upon his death six years ago it was bought by a hedge fund company called First Advantage.”
“Why would a hedge fund company want a bar?” Emily asked.
“Let’s see. Well, they bought it for a song,” Penelope began. “And, poor man, his medical expenses bankrupted him, I guess that’s why-- shut the front door.”
“What is it?” Y/N asked.
“Clark Preston is on the board of First Advantage, which explains why the bar is on a shortlist of local businesses that support Preston for mayor,” Penelope answered.
“Of course it is,” Y/N said as she sat down on the desk behind her.
“Okay we missed something, we need to go back over his staff and contributors again,” Emily said looking at Spencer beside her.
“They all came up clean,” JJ said.
“Garcia, look up DMV records and find every registration in the area that matches the description on the unsub’s vehicle,” Derek said to Penelope over the phone.
“Okay, 79 names and I’m way ahead of you, none of them match anyone Preston’s team-” she stopped. “What the what? Oh. I’m good at my job. Pamela Mills donates monthly to Preston’s campaign. Her son Trevor, his car matches the description, and it’s registered in his name.”
“Got a photo and an address?” Y/N asked.
“Yes, I do. I also have a place of work for Trevor. He is a part-time messenger, I’m sending it now,” Penelope said pressing ‘enter’ on her keyboard aggressively.
“Alright JJ, Morgan, and Prentiss take the workplace, we’ll take the house,” Hotch said dismissing everyone to go off.
---------
“What do you have, Garcia?” Hotch asked as he sped down the road, lights on in case they were stopped.
“Sir, I found the connection between the Mills family and Clark Preston. Ten years ago, the Mills were the victims of a home invasion. Robert Mills, the father, and 10-year-old Julie were killed. Pamela was raped, and now she has a lot of brain damage, that has left her in a near vegetative state,” Penelope said explaining the sad story of the family.
“What about Trevor?” Spencer asked.
“He hid in the closet and when it was over, he called 911,” Penelope answered.
“That’s why he stuffed that boy in the closet,” Hotch said referring to the last family that was killed.
“He was reliving his own victimization.” Y/N said in realization.
“He didn’t do that to the other children he murdered because he didn’t relate to them,” Rossi said.
“Garcia was anybody convicted of the crime?” Hotch asked.
“Yes, a Ronnie Green and Carlos Jackson. Both African American, both serving like in Folsom,” Penelope said before she continued with her story. “And then after the murders, Preston, he financially supported the family almost entirely. “
“So they’re close, he’s known the family for years,” Rossi stated.
“That must be how they’re paying Pamela’s medical expenses,” Spencer said.
“Yeah, it would be really hard to cover with Trevor’s part-time messenger salary,” Y/N added looking to Spencer beside her.
‘Yeah, I mean, it’s a top-flight policy,” Penelope said reading the health care bill.
“So Preston is playing the savior,’ Rossi said.
“And it looks like that monthly donation, that Pamela makes to Preston's campaign, is her disability check,” Penelope added.
“My guess is Trevor authorized that because he feels beholden to Preston,” Rossi said piecing together why that would happen.
“He probably Idolizes him,” Y/N added.
“So Preston is manipulating the Mills family to further his own agenda, he’s behind everything,” Hotch said coming to the conclusion that Preston was part of it all along.
“He took advantage of Trevor in a vulnerable state and made him trust and then brainwashed him,” Y/N said.
“Turned him into a killer,” Spencer added.
“Uh, guys,” Penelope interrupted. “There’s something else, Preston bought the Mills home after the invasions.”
The tires came to a screeching halt as Hotch pulled up to the Mills house. The four hoped out of the car, taking out their guns and walked to the front door.
Hotch pounded on the door, “FBI!”
When no answer came, Hotch pushed the door in and entered the threshold of the house. Y/N stood between Rossi and Spencer as they walked into the house. They then split up and looked around the house, Hotch and Rossi downstairs, Spencer and Y/N upstairs.
Y/N held her gun out in front of her as she entered a small guest room. She made sure the room was clear before walking out and meeting Spencer in the hall.
“You find anything?” She asked while she holstered her gun on her hip.
“Yeah, this note,” Spencer said as he inspected the note in his hand.
“Come on, let’s go find Hotch and Rossi,” She said before they walked downstairs.
“He’s not here,” Y/N said as she walked into the room with Hotch and Rossi. Spencer close behind her. Pamela Mills was seen laying in the bed not moving but looking at the four by her door.
“I found this in his bedroom,” Spencer said holding out the letter he found. “It’s addressed to her,” he said referring to Pamela.
“ ‘The price of peace is sacrifice, and I’m prepared to pay that price, no matter how high. I hope you’ll still love me.’ This is a goodbye letter,” Rossi said after reading the letter.
“Or a suicide note,” Hotch countered.
“He doesn’t profile as suicidal,” Spencer said in a hushed tone not wanting to disturb the woman in the bed.
“No, but he knows this could be his final mission,” Rossi said.
“He may want to go out in a blaze of glory,” Y/N said as she glanced at the woman in the bed.
“It’s all about the election, he’s only got one move left, we need to secure Mayor Wennington, I’ll have the rest of the team find Hilary Ross,” Hotch said pulling out his phone to call Derek.
They headed back out to the car and got an address for Mayor Wennington heading over to his house. Y/N walked up the front door, the three men with her following behind closely.
“Mayor Wennington?” She asked when the door opened and a white-haired man in a loose-fitting tie answered.
“Yes,” he responded.
“Hi, I’m Agent Y/N Y/L/N, this is Agent Hotchner, Rossi, and Dr. Reid, we’re with the FBI,” she said introducing the men behind her.
“Is this about those recent murders?” The Mayor asked with concern.
“Yes, sir, we have reason to believe you might be in danger, would you come with us,” she said gesturing to the car in his driveway,
“Yes, of course, let me grab my coat,” he turned around and walked ten steps to a coat rack to grab his jacket before he headed out the door with them.
“Yeah, Morgan,” Hotch said answering his phone while they walked to the SUV.
“We’re on our way to Hilary Ross’ house now, she’s still not answering her phone,” Derek said.
“All right, call local police, he’s not going to go quietly,” Hotch ordered.
“You have Mayor Wennington?”
“Yeah, keep me posted,” Hotch said before hanging up.
----------
The next day, Y/N pulled into Clark Preston’s campaign office parking lot with Rossi ready to arrest him.
“You want to do the honors kid?” Rossi asked Y/N as they exited the vehicle they were in.
“Absolutely,” she said with a smile, her wish from the previous day coming true.
“I hope this is a good enough birthday present,” Rossi said with a smirk looking at Y/N.
“Who told you? Penelope? I thought she would’ve dropped that by now,” she said with a laugh as she opened the door to the office.
The two agents walked back to the room where Preston was sitting.
“Clark Preston you’re under arrest,” Y/N said as she walked over to the man sitting at his desk. She pulled him out of his seat and placed her handcuffs from her pocket on him.
“For what?” He asked defensively.
“For orchestrating the murders of the Mitchells, Lewis’, and others,” Rossi said as he and Y/N began to lead Preston out of his office.
“What proof do you have?” He asked trying to find a way out of the situation.
“Voicemails left by Trevor Mills,” Y/N said shoving him when he stopped walking.
“Voicemail messages? That’s ludicrous, that boy is mentally unstable, always has been,” Preston said.
“Clark Preston you have the right to remain silent,” Y/N said, not only because she had to but because she really didn’t want to hear his pathetic excuses anymore.
“I’m Innocent!” He tried to protest.
“And please feel free to exercise that right,” Rossi said grabbing Preston’s other arm as he tried to move out of Y/N’s grasp.
“Anything you say can, and will be used against you in a court of law, you have the right to an attorney, if you can’t afford one, one will be appointed to you,” She continued as Rossi opened the door and led them out.
--------
“Come on, Spence please tell me where we are going,” Y/N asked, her arm linked with Spencer as they walked down the street.
“I can’t do that Y/N, you know that,” he said as he led her further down the road.
“Can you tell me if this has to do with my birthday?”
“Maybe.”
“Oh, come on, I told Penelope that we really didn’t have to do anything,” Y/N said as she shook her head.
“Well, I learned that you need to let them have their moment with you, cause they’re the closest thing you’ve got to family here until you have your own,” Spencer explained to her as he looked at her with a smile.
Y/N sighed in defeat, knowing Spencer was right.
“Oh look we’re here, can’t believe you didn’t notice where we were going before,” he said as he turned to Y/N’s favorite dive-bar in the downtown area of D.C. Spencer began to pull her inside but she stopped him before he could walk up the small stairs to go inside.
“Wait- Spencer, before we go in, I have to do something,” she said pulling on his arm making him turn to her.
“What is it?” He asked facing her with a curious look.
She replied by placing her lips on his in a gentle kiss. It was a kiss that made both their stomachs do flips. His hands reaching up to grab her face as hers gripped the front of his coat. A year and a half's worth of bottled up feelings were expressed as Y/N deepend the kiss.
“I just really wanted to do that,” she said to him after they pulled apart. A smile came on Spencer’s lips and he pulled her in again for a shorter but just as meaningful kiss.
“I really like you Y/N,” he said face still close to hers.
“I really like you too, Spencer,” she said back with a smile. “Come one let’s go in.”
The happy couple walked into the bar seeing their friends standing in a corner to the left of the door.
“There’s the birthday girl!” Penelope said as she saw Spencer and Y/N walk in.
“Happy Birthday!” They all said.
Y/N blushed as she approached the table, “Thanks, guys.”
The team laughed, drank, and danced till the late hours of the night. Even Hotch laughed and gave Y/N a hug as they all danced to the music. A smile stayed on Y/N’s face the whole night as she danced with all her friends and drank happily.
Spencer watched the woman he was beginning to fall in love with belt the lyrics to a Coldplay song that played through the speakers and dance with Penelope and JJ. Y/N looked over and saw Spencer staring at her at her and walked over to him.
“You know it’s rude to stare,” she said with a giggle.
Spencer laughed, “I wasn’t staring.” The blush on his cheek told Y/N otherwise.
She quickly grabbed his arm and started to pull him onto the dance floor.
“Oh no, I don’t dance really-” he tried to protest but Y/N wasn’t having it.
“You do tonight!”
She brought him to the dance floor Penelope and JJ yelling ‘Hi!’ over the music as they started to dance again. Y/N tried to help Spencer move less awkwardly and he eventually started to get the hang of it. Taking Y/N’s hand in his he spun her around and danced with her. A smile formed on their faces hoping the moment would never end.
