Imagine thinking that the recent "failure" (by Disney standards) of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is because of the addition of "diversity wokeism" (their words, not mine) and a lack of focus from the architects of the MCU (mostly Kevin Feige) on the overarching storyline that binds all movies & shows and not due to the fundamentally unsustainable structure currently in place that attempts to make several gigantic billion dollar movies every year for the last 12 years whilst obviously relying on the exploitation of workers, particularly vfx artists, so much that it's driving people out of the industry, and milking as much money as possible through it all...

Like, sorry to say but: they aren't making movies...they're just rolling another product off the assembly line at this point.

WHY ARE PEOPLE LEAVING FANDOM'S? WHAT I HAVE FOUND OUT.

So, I have noticed that a lot of my mutual's for many fandom's ( TUA, TWD, Z-NATION, WWDITS, Derry Girls, HOTD, etc. ) have been dropping like flies.

[ I love you my beautiful friends, and I hope one day you will feel comfortable and safe to come back 😘 ]

It got me thinking, why? Why? WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?! But, after talking to a few of my mutual's on other apps, it came down to mainly three common things with these mutual's. ( note, this is not for every fandom / fan, this was just the mutual's that I talked to, okay? )

1. The TV show ended, so there isn't much reason to stick around anymore. ( Umbrella Academy, The Walking Dead, Derry Girls, Z-Nation, What We Do in the Shadows, etc. )

Which is valid. If there are no more ( Ex. Sunday episodes for HOTD or Sunday episodes for TWD ) not many fans wanna stick around.

Then, after so many fans leave. It kind of becomes a 'dead fandom'. Where people sometimes goes back to time to time and be like, "Oh, I remember that show.." for nostalgia.

2. Their interests have changed.

Like any common trend, some people just say, "Nah, I don't like *insert show* anymore. I liked the 5th season and 2nd. But, I'm just not that into *insert genre* tv shows anymore." Again, valid.

Everyone had gone through one kind of phase before. It could have been books ( PJO, HP, etc. ) or fashion ( Skinny jeans, graphic t-shirts, etc. ) or music ( MCR, Blood on the Dance Floor, etc. )

It's fine to grow and change.

3. The fandom doesn't feel like a fandom anymore. This is a BIG one that many have told me.

People are clashing together, book vs tv show fights, character x character ships are constantly hating on each other, death threats are being sent to actors / fans / fanfic writers, you can't share your opinion without someone sending hate, etc.

The best example is HOTD. A fandom that I am in / write for.

Now, now, here me out! I have been very open about the hate in the fandom. You can check. I've gotten hate for writing about highly requested character's ( Aegon, Aemond, etc. ) and I have called out how fans are acting towards each other / actors.

What I don't get is this. We are all in the same fandom.

How did we go from, "Oh, Tom Glynn-Carney is really cute in Aegon's wig. It suits him.", "I have a fan theory that maybe in the next episode they'll do this part from the book because the teaser at the end of the episode it shows..", and, "I hope they put this scene in the show!"

To "Oh, you think Tom Glynn-Carney is cute as Aegon? Well you support r@pe and deserve death threats!", "Oh, you wrote a fanfic / oneshot / etc. for this character? Oh, it has a trope that it being used by a lot of other writers? Here's hate for that!", and, "Tom Glynn-Carney says that Aegon is a complex character...so clearly he supports..."

The main point is that this is why soooooo many of people are dropping out of fandom's. And when people call it out, they either get run out of the fandom as well or blasted for it with death threats.

Fandom's used to be places where people could go to geek out with others. A safe place. It's why there is comic con, etc. People want to know other fans, the want a safe place to go to.

Now, it's become a place where you have to mostly keep your head down low and not say a thing to avoid being run out because you share a different opinion.

In conclusion? I hope that fandom's can be kind to each once again so that people feel safe / comfortable to come back.

To all my beautiful fans who were run out / felt like they had to leave a fandom, I love you and understand why you left. I hope one day you will come back and find joy in the fandom that you once did.

To those of you running out fans / sending death threats. It's you that ruins the fandom. Fandom's were safe places for people, now you've ruined it for those people.

If you don't like a fandom / other fan, you have other options :

1. IGNORE THEM AND LEAVE THEM ALONE!

2. BLOCK A TAG / ACCOUNT YOU DON'T LIKE!

3. DON'T SEND DEATH THREATS!

4. FIND A PART OF THE FANDOM THAT MATCHES YOU AND STICK TO IT!

5. Block their account / tag, ignore them, not send death threats, leave them alone and enjoy the parts of the fandom that matches you.

It's that simple!

top ten list of all the knives that sunny owns

🔪: *Cracks knuckles* Ah hell yeah.

10: three-bladed knife. Outside of the novelty of a tri-bladed knife it really isn’t anything special, still a pretty cool knife though.

9: Recreation of Stone Age knife. Pretty damn badass recreation and a great way of seeing history, but there’s a reason they were phased out with bronze and other metal knives

8: My first knife. Just a steak knife with a small chip on its blade. Still nice to keep for nostalgia.

7: Workplace utility knife. High up primarily for it’s practicality for cutting into boxes and other containers… surprisingly effective in lockpicking into abandoned buildings.

6: Medieval dagger. (with sheath) Makes me feel like a badass assassin, and the sheathe is quite pretty and nice to stim with.

5: Serrated knife with foot long blade. Effectively a short sword. Almost never carry it in public but it’s great for cutting meat from the grocery store, and the serrated edges are good for opening cans. Can’t get higher due to people thinking I’m a serial killer for having this with me.

4: Butterfly knife. Badass appearance and opening mechanism. I use primarily for knife tricks, though it’s great for carving wood.

3: Aztec sacrificial knife. A birthday gift from Mari. Blade is so fucking sharp that I got a severe bleeding by merely brushing against it slightly. Fancy appearance especially with the obsidian blade.

2: Swiss Army knife. Nice appearance, cool and practical functionalities, and is usable in a lot of situations. Less of a knife as much as it it a multitool. But so very awesome.

1: Puukko. A damn beautiful knife, sheath is wood carved with cute kitties, blade has some nice runes, and the handle is made from birch and is so very pleasant to handle. Extremely practical, and can be used to cut meat, brush clearing, cutting tree branches and firewood.

And this is my list for my knife collection. Do ask me other questions involving knives or other weapons, and perhaps the jewelry and crafts I’ve made too.

people also tend to become much more impatient or intolerant of shounen battle genre(from jump magazine) as they age and they start reading more seinen series as late teens, even with their success its not a wonder multiple people started to phase out naruto,bleach, bnha ect as the series went on, while there's some that try to do different things its not a guarantee, tastes just changes as you grow older despite having nostalgia fondness for it there might be 1 or 2 series that catches your eye but i don't think ppl in their 20s actively keep up with everything in popular shounen circles cause so many seems juvenile which its supposed to be lol

yeah, having reread some stuff I liked as a teenager I realized that, although if it touched the powerbattle elements for me I don't think these are inherently immature, it's a wide concept that can be executed in so many ways

i do however see a LOT of people online who never do phase out of it and who no matter the age keep reading stuff for kids and teens which is beyond me. the moment i found the satisfaction of adult stories reaching into zones that'd not be appropriate or interesting for a story aimed for a younger audience I never went back. i see a lot of people exploring these themes through fanworks and some are great but the hater part of my heart wants to say if you find yourself as an adult exclusively reading angst or smut fic you would benefit from reading material meant for your age range

Convention: True Otaku

I've always kind of been involved in fandom culture from a young age, mostly because I was always an art kid. For me, the internet art space and fandom are largely interchangeable due to just how much overlap there is, especially in the last 5 years where fandom and fandom art is getting mainstream. My personal experience with the space started with my digital animal drawing phase at 12 years old on a children's coding platform called Scratch. On this platform, I made a friend around the same age as me that I would discuss art and characters with, do art trades, and follow art trends like 'animation memes' together using the animal characters we would make up. Because of this, I've always been kind of familiar with this idea of community-centered content and making that content your own through your art.

Today, my fandom interactions consist of enjoying anime, discussing it, and making fanart with that same friend I made on that platform, 8 years later (as well buying merch for shows here and there). This person has become my great friend, and as a byproduct of the kind of content we grew up on, also like my 'fandom outlet' to talk about all the things I've become fixated on at any moment. I have seen people in fandom that make cliques on art-fandom-friendly places like Twitter, Tumblr, or Instagram whose online friends tend to move on once their fixation on the media or fandom dies out, and this is probably the sad reality of what It would have been like for me if not for my good friend and the great times we've had talking to one another, so I'm really thankful for them.

Aside from anime, sometimes I draw those old characters of mine for nostalgia and appreciation for the characters, but otherwise I like to focus on generating anime fanart or coming up with new original content centered around human characters. I think I personally enjoy fandom activities because it allows me to express my love for a piece of media and bring new life into it by making it my own while I am simultaneously challenging myself to be creative. Mostly though, it's one of my consistently favorite things to bring my interests to another person and discuss it and enjoy it together. It goes beyond a connection with a piece of media that might be fleeting into a connection with other people that can continually respond to you and enjoy your company.

My interactions on social media have been modest ever since I graduated from Scratch territory, 1) because I was focused on online safety for a majority of my childhood, and 2) by the time I was confident enough to put myself out on mainstream social media to a degree, my friend had already kind of fulfilled the need that social media provides. So the extent of my interactions on these platforms have been mostly just liking art and fanart I admire and posting a new art piece to get like 1 like on Twitter, which I have become perfectly happy with receiving.

Despite being casually involved in fandom for the majority of my life, I've never actually attended a convention despite wanting to in these later years. I've always liked halloween and dressing up to become a character, and I know I would love cosplay and attending conventions. A few years back in high school, I even made (with my mom's help) a costume of pretty niche video game character, Hornet from Hollow Knight (niche, considering I was just going to walk around the neighborhood). The whole experience was exactly how everyone described the experience of cosplaying in the True Otaku documentary: making the costume is a lot of hard work and trial and error, especially if you're a novice, but the end result is that you get to become immersed in and play the part of a character you really like. And surprisingly, even though I was just walking around the neighborhood and most people didn't really get it, there were a few that did and those people and their enthusiasm have always stuck out in my mind.

If I ever went to a convention in the future, which I think I'll probably do at some point when I'm not as busy with other things, I'll definitely be cosplaying something, either my already established Hornet costume or a character from an anime I like.

Adrien was next to be visited. Plagg woke him up from his sleep.

“Kit, wake up. I want camembert.”

“Plagg, silence. You are not getting any cheese if you do that.”

“Sorry, Adrien but you are not my ‘master’ anymore.”

“Plagg? Why are you here? Where’s the ring?”

“The ring is as far away as possible and kept safely away. I am here because someone wants to talk to you.”

“Who?”

A cloaked, hooded figure stepped out of the shadows to his room.

“Kitty. My Chaton. Did you miss me?” A sweet, familiar but yet so terrifying voice came from the figure.

She pulled down the hood to reveal Ladybug with a wicked-looking black mask with white lenses.

“What am I talking about? You do miss me. Your Bugaboo. Too bad I don’t feel the same, Adrien.”

Lightning flashed and it started to rain. The mask was gone, revealing his dead classmate, Marinette with chilling red eyes. The pigtails grew longer and curved upwards, giving the illusion of her having horns. Twin blades flashed and she leaped towards him. (Damian gave them to her with some lessons in exchange for spending time with, babysitting, the kwamis.)

Adrien scrambled away from the bed in the nick of time. A sword impaling the spot where he just was.

“Plagg, help. Where is the ring? I need to transform.”

“Sorry, kitten. I am not telling you. Even if you did have the ring, it’s not going to be much help.”

“Kitty, stay still. Then, we can be together. Just like you wanted.”

Adrien continued to dodge.

“What do you mean?” He all but screamed at Plagg.

“Pigtails, here, is a vengeful spirit. She’s not going to stop until she is satisfied. How about asking her what she wants?”

“Ladybug, what do you want?”

“What I wanted was a partner I could rely on, someone I can trust with my life, someone who wouldn’t stab me in the back for his own selfish gain. I wanted a friend who would have my back and not tell me to keep quiet at the price of my mental health and my relationships with people I care about. WAS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?!”

She managed to get a cut on his left cheek.

Soon, he was on the ground, bleeding out on the round.

“Tell Hawkmoth that he better watch out. Because-” lightning struck and Plagg and Ladybug had disappeared, “his downfall is coming.” Her voice echoed through his room.

Adrien laid bleeding until Natalie opened the door after hearing a crash from the room and came to check on him. As she called an ambulance for Adrien, she wondered if it wasn’t too late to ask for redemption and be spared from Ladybug’s wrath for her part in her murder.

Adrien had the word ‘TRAITOR’ carved into his back. Forever reminding him of his crimes.

He wasn’t in school for a week after the incident. They all were told that Adrien had an accident while fencing.

Gabriel was a little panicking now.

He hired an exorcist, (John Constantine got a hefty amount and did a few flashy magic tricks to appease Gabriel but he didn’t lift the curse Maria put on the place. She is not someone to be on the bad side of and he thinks that he can’t lift it even if he wanted to.)

Emilie gets a little sus at Gabriel when he brought this strange man with a British accent into their home after their son got attacked in his own room with security tighter than Fort Knox.

She doesn’t buy that ‘accident’ bullshit that her husband, son and even Natalie tries to sell her. She thinks it is connected to what happened while she was in a coma.

Adrien has a curse too.

He couldn’t act like the ‘Perfect Adrien’ in public anymore. Acting more like Chat Noir at first then, later a spoiled brat. His friends thought that he was finally rebelling against his father and encouraged it a lot.

Adrien started criticizing other people, strangers at first then to the people working on the photoshoots to his fans to his other school mates, people in his class and his friends. (The curse planted ideas into his head about what he should say and he said them all without thinking about the effect it has on other people)

People started avoiding him not liking his attitude and his comments about how they should behave and change something about them because he doesn’t like it that way and guilt-tripping them when he doesn’t get his way. Even Nino started to distance himself after he saw how Adrien talked to a fan.

The public thought it was a phase but as he got progressively worse, people started despising him. Adrien doesn’t realize this of course so far, happy that his father let him get away with ‘ruining the Agreste image.’ (Gabriel was worried about a potential vengeful ghost and making sure his wife didn't know about his stint as a supervillain. There was also the fact that the Afterlife made more sales than him again and managed to get on the cover of Vogue when he should have, dammit.) He was finally able to say what he wanted to without repercussions. Until he realized when Nino and everyone else cancelled for a hangout for the third time that week that he was slowly losing his friends.

He panics and tries to fix the situation. He didn’t want to be alone again.

He talks to Nino about it and to his horror, he couldn’t stop himself from saying many things that were a little hurtful. (Second part. The moment he realizes he is going to be alone. He is going to find out that yes, lies can hurt people. He is going to see it happen firsthand.)

Nino moved seats and told Adrien that their friendship was on hold until he apologized.

Soon, nearly every time his mouth opened, lies and insults about his friends or their embarrassing secrets came spilling out. Everyone hated him now and Mme. Bustier tried to give him a reprimand about his behaviour, which when he tried to defend himself, he found himself unable to speak.

He managed to explain to his father what caused his unpopularity by writing what happened to him. Unfortunately due to his poor behaviour before the second part of the curse was activated, his fan base was dwindling and people didn’t like him anymore so there was a hit on the Gabriel brand.

He no longer has to do modeling, clearing his schedule. But no one would spend time with him.

The best solution he could do with his predicament was to keep quiet and endure the loneliness and the glares of his classmates at school. Adrien was relegated to the back and nearly everyone avoided him. He was now a social pariah.

Even Lila avoided him because of her own curse which made Adrien turn into one of her previous victims. (She also didn’t ponder why Marinette rarely appears compared to the others.)

If Adrien felt a tiny bit remorseful or guilty for making Marinette keep quiet or betraying Ladybug, he can gain a little control over what he says.

The curse can be broken if he apologizes to Maria herself or to her grave.

The first few months, while Marinette adapted to living with the Waynes, Jason stayed over at Wayne Manor because having Maria living with him at his apartment wasn’t a good idea and he had no clue how to take care of a teenage girl.

On paper she is adopted by Bruce because Jason can’t. (Some CPS reasons.)

Making Jason a little more salty towards Bruce. “I found her first. I called dibs.”

Brought Maria to meet the other Outlaws and they adopted her too. “Hey, guys. She’s my sister first.”

Jason was the one to teach her how to shoot a gun because he was ‘the most capable’ of teaching her.

The first few months were a little tense with Marinette not fully trusting them and the same with the rest of the Batfam.

Jason warmed her up a bit to him by telling a little of why he took her here.

He was also the one to book them flight to Paris with Bruce’s credit card so she can tell her friends that she wasn’t dead in person.

They bonded more after stopping some nefarious plot in Paris while they were there. Let’s say Gentleman Ghost and something involving the catacombs in Paris. (I watched some Batman: Brave and the Bold for childhood nostalgia.)

Kwamis were animal-shaped and they were interesting creatures to be around. And very very curious.

There was a stressful day for Maria when all the Kwamis decided to play hide and seek. Damian somehow got roped into helping her as the only available person in the Manor and he will deny that he enjoyed it.

Damian is the little brother she always wanted and she is more tolerable compared to his brothers. There is also the fact that she trusts him with the kwamis and deep down, he feels super-honoured. (I just love older sister!Mari)

Tim and her being insomniac/coffee buddies. There has been many many interventions to stop this.

I get that Marinette is this selfless person and loves making people happy but she has siblings now and them eating the stuff she made for herself to enjoy, should get on her nerves after a while.

She makes a box with booby-traps in which she puts in her cookies and food.

There are many different layers of traps because this is the Batfam and each of them is non-lethal and more ridiculous.

Okay, I once read a fic about Marinette making a bear-trap style box to hide the Miracle Box so this box is also like that but kept for food. (Traps and Sneaks by quicksilversquared)

Someone (I vote a hungry Dick or Jason, maybe a suspicious Bruce) made a mistake of putting their hand into the box and the first trap activated.

Screams filled the house.

Everyone came down including Marinette.

Bruce asked, “Who did this?”

“It was me.”

“Why?”

“They kept eating the cookies.”

“There are other ways to stop them from doing that you know like a ‘Do Not Touch’ sign not a death trap box.”

“They are non-lethal.”

Bruce locked it away but Tim later stole it to tweak it and store his coffee. ------ (Part 4)

garm’s video game wrap-up 2021

i started this last year (garm’s video game wrap-up 2020), just as a way to do some doodle fanart at least for the games i enjoyed throughout the year!!

through my life i’ve been mostly a portable console player, but thanks to being stuck at home these days i’ve been able to play some of my console/pc backlog. i’m glad!!

as with the previous year, these are just some short (spoiler-free!) thoughts on the games that got me through 2021.

- trails into reverie: technically started last year. super glad to revisit the crossbell gang! and i love the kind of 'sky 3rd' formula. and tbh it's still pretty amazing to see all the chars get together..if i had to choose a most "fun" trails this would probably be the one🤔

- persona 5 royal: i love persona games so it took me long enough to get to p5 😅 i love it!! the presentation is so well-polished, and i got really attached to the phantom thieves as characters..probably my 2nd fave persona game now after p2ep~

- 13 sentinels aegis rim: i think nothing needs to be said, it took over my brain and still hasn’t let go..... the visuals/music are sooo good, i love the characters so much, the story is crazy in the good way. and met some cool people through 13s too so thank you for my life!!

- ai the somnium files: another crazy game that twisted my brain around, i had a blast with zero escape trilogy and aitsf was no different! what a ride!! and i always love these mystery-solving puzzle room things. i need time to regrow my braincells for nirvana initiative...

- stellaris: my first time playing a 4x game (i am so bad at it), i wish i had more timeeee to play it but i enjoy seeing your little aliens expand out into the universe! and the space vibes(?) music is SO good as relaxing/work bgm..faster than light🎵

- ys viii: finally! i think ys8 is a lot of people’s fave ys game so i was excited to get to it? i can see why, the music is amazing, the island exploration is so fun, and...dana 😭😭  ys9 is still my personal fave but this was such a fun adventure i loved it!

- great ace attorney 1+2: i had just started (finally) playing it on 3ds when they announced the localisation T_T anyway i love all the ace attorney games so far and gaa is no different!! gaa2 especially kept me on edge the whole time (still can't top aai2 for me though 😆) 

- mass effect 1: after 1000 years of rotting in my steam library!! i think i was always scared off because shooting game, but i'm so glad i finally got myself to play it. baby's first western rpg..i LOVE space+alien+worldbuilding stuff and this game is everything i ever wanted...

- fuga melodies of steel: another group of kids to adopt and protect 😭😭 i'm so happy it's out, it was worth the wait and it's such a fun little game..i looove the aesthetics and music (i did with solatorobo too) and i really enjoy the gameplay loop this time!!

- a short hike: what a short and sweet game!! i'd love to play more relaxing exploration games like this where you just talk to npcs, do fun stuff without worrying about dying or resource management haha. amazing style and music, i love it ;w;

- night in the woods: a very relatable story to the ‘depressed 20yo dropout’ phase of my life 😂 sometimes we’re always lost but it feels a bit better to be lost with friends. the mood set by the wonderful music and aesthetics is absolutely amazing O: and the dialogue!! love it.

- detention: baby's first(?) horror game😭 i have no reflexes so admittedly those parts are hell, but that aside the aesthetic/sound make a truly amazing atmosphere i really love!! it's set before my time but even then the settings evoke a lot of nostalgia for me;;

- mass effect 2: cries i love this little alien(+some humans) gang...i missed being able to converse with your squadmates anywhere, but i LOVE the loyalty missions and how they flesh out each character, i feel extra attached to this gang. i'll miss exploring the galaxy with them!

- kuro no kiseki: still on chapter 1, but looks like 2021 was a 'start with trails, end with trails' year 😄 i'm rooting for van and friends' gourmet adventures🥞finally i'm done with my 2021 wrap-up, can't wait for new adventures in 2022!!

I’m always so impressed/amazed when I see people talk about their elaborate and detailed headcanons. That’s just not how my brain engages with fiction most of the time. But after pondering it for a while, I’ve realized I do have a few for TOG (sometimes prompted by reading fic and thinking “no, I don’t think that’s right”).

My Old Guard headcanons are: 1) Booker had difficult relationships with his kids even before his first death 2) Andy and Quynh’s relationship is not a wlw version of Nicky and Joe’s 3) Neither of the couples is completely monogamous 4) Neither Joe nor Nicky is actively religious

1) I certainly don’t think he was abusive or neglectful, but something was wrong in that family. The line in the movie that really strikes me is “And they won’t believe you, of course.” Why “of course”? What is “of course” about your children (and possibly your wife) believing not only that you are lying to them about something important, but that you want them to die? Because that’s what it meant, right? They thought Booker was lying when he said he didn’t know why he was immortal, and they thought that lie showed that he didn’t love them. So they thought he was withholding an explanation that could have benefited them. They thought their own father (and husband?) would rather just let them die. Now, the prospect of death is unsettling, and I’d expect a certain amount of resentment and envy (although I’d also expect that some people could work through that, because not everyone who knows that they’re dying is angry and bitter about it.) But I can’t imagine ever believing something like that about my father, and for all his kids to think that? They already had reason to see him as selfish and unreliable. (He certainly demonstrated to his second family that he could be selfish and unreliable.) Also I think he’s more interesting and compelling as a character if the pain he’s carrying is not just grief and survivor’s guilt, but also guilt for having been the kind of father whose kids would believe those things about him.

2) By the time they were separated, Andy and Quynh were unfathomably old and had been together for an unfathomably long time. I’ve read fics where they’re treated very much like Joe and Nicky - little things like frequent endearments, and bigger things like thinking of each other as the other half of their soul. And I just don’t vibe with that. I think they’d been together, and alone together, for so long that they were just...part of the landscape of each other’s world. I don’t mean that in a “fade into the background and taken for granted” way. More like...I live in a city that has a river running through the middle of it. Everything is oriented around the river. You don’t just live in the city, you live north of the river or south of the river. In the past, it would have been a mode of transportation and a food source and just absolutely central to the lives of the people there. And you would love it, and maybe feel grateful to/for it, and it would just be there. You wouldn’t worry about it one day disappearing; that would never even cross your mind. You could go away for a while without ever being concerned that it wouldn’t be there when you got back. It would be constant. I think Andy and Quynh’s relationship was both romantic and sexual, but I think it was also something more and deeper than that, and so they didn’t live their relationship in a way that looked like Joe and Nicky or really any relationship that we as puny mortals have ever seen.

3) I don’t think that non-monogamy is inherently “more advanced” or “more evolved” than monogamy. But I do think that if both members of a couple knew deep down in their bones that they were loved and secure and had nothing to be jealous about (and even a lot of happily non-monogamous people still feel insecure and jealous sometimes, so that’s a pretty high bar), if the possibility of someone being hurt was nonexistent and both people knew that with absolute certainty...then why not? Loving someone wholeheartedly doesn’t stop you from feeling attracted or connected to other people, and over the course of centuries the odds of meeting someone you click with go way up. I imagine it’s cyclical, like they go through phases where that’s not even on the radar, and phases where they’re like “woo, orgies” and actively seek it out, and times when they hook up independently and times when they hook up together and every now and then maybe they have an ongoing relationship.

4) I don’t think they’re anti-religion like Andy is, but I think they long ago separated faith from religion/observance. Sometimes they engage in a particular practice for nostalgia’s sake, or because they want to feel connected to a community, or something like that. But it’s not something they regularly or habitually do. Whatever relationship they currently have with God or the idea of God is outside the realm of organized religion and the rules and expectations just don’t have any weight or deeper meaning anymore.

SHORT ANSWER: i think it’s a lot of fun for what it is! what it is being "extremely badly written” which is par for the course considering uh... its aphmau. it's nowhere near as bad as mystreet (it's hard to be worse than mystreet)

LONG ANSWER:

this is a hell of a question. I have a lot of honest thoughts on minecraft diaries, which is funny considering i didn't even watch aphmau as a kid! no joke, i sat down last year and started watching aphmau for the first time and i would like to ask myself one thing: WHO DOES THAT?

my thesis is basically that mcd is bad but i like it anyway. mcd has a lot of things i like about it! the format of season 2 is really good, it hits this sweet spot between how rough season 1 is and how overproduced season 3 is and i find it way more enjoyable than aphmau’s later stuff. even though i didn’t watch aphmau specifically as a kid the style of her early videos still evokes that feeling of early mcyt nostalgia in me.

i also loveee how well mcd demonstrates this sorta unique quality mcrp has where the medium shifts as the story goes on. it goes from modded lets play, to completely scripted, to mystreet style voice acting.

it’s hard to fault the quality of the writing too heavily when you know how insane the production schedule was. aside from the catgirl racism.. no excuses for the catgirl racism. or the normal racism. or the fact that her writing somehow got WORSE over time. maybe i’m being too nice to aphmau? i hate aphmau.

as far as narrative/characters go, minecraft diaries has a lot of elements that make really good jumping off points to expand upon (because they’re so underutilized) and that’s what's interesting about it to me. i LOVE the shadow knights conceptually, i think there's so much to explore with them, + with shad as a villain, but aphmau never really does it justice. back when my mcd phase was at it’s peak i wrote like 50k words fleshing out zenix as a character + his relationship with garroth + the shadow knights as a concept. i came VERY CLOSE to doing a whole season 3 rewrite but i’m not that crazy.

my favorite part of mcd is hands down the characters + character dynamics. or rather what those things Could Have Been if they were written well, like you have the whole love triangle thing which against all odds i think is interesting in theory.

laurance's character arc needed to be about letting go of aphmau. he and garroth have this similar "i would die or go to hell or suffer forever if it meant you'd be happy/safe" thing going on with aphmau.

a relationship between aphmau and either of them has this element where they're her guards first and foremost. its almost at a point where she transcends being a friend to them and becomes a symbol despite them being some of the only people who know her for who she is and not as lady irene. they would do things for her she could not do for them in return because she has responsibilities to so many people that it's inherently unbalanced. laurance and garroth also doesn't work out because garroth is too obsessed with selflessness, he just doubles down on the We Only Exist To Protect Her mentality. enter: vylad. also lest we forget zoey, aphmau’s poor forgotten housewife. and the whole thing ties into what guards and lords even ARE on a cultural level and what that role means which is interesting to me.

and all of this could have been something! but it wasn't, aphmau spent too much screentime on werewolves and now we’re here.

side note it’s hilarious to me that laurance had cat ears in all of these scenes ^ the nuances of falling in love with a guy you know nothing about while imprisoned in the nether because he promises he's going to help and then he disappears and you're stuck there for 15 years and when you meet again the first thing he does is apologize for leaving you there. and he’s a catboy.

as far as an overarching plot goes mcd is fucking nothing. with such highlights as “oh no we have to stop the big mean monarchy! to solve this problem i'm going to instate the big nice monarchy instead”

in conclusion: “mcd sucks and i hate it” says the guy who just wrote all of this shit talking about mcd. heres my favorite part of that zenix fic i never posted anywhere

Some things I've noticed or think are unique to the DP fandom:

1. We fuel more material through the fandom than we do with the source material. We've bled that show dry, and we're left with an evolving fandom to get more material from. Most of the stuff we see as canon might actually be fanon, but after writing about it for 16 years, who can really tell the difference?

2. I read somehwere that a perk of fanfiction is that everyone knows the source material so you don't have to bother with reading/writing backstory. In the DP fandom, we've all collectively agreed to read and write the backstory anyway. Other fandoms write perfectly wonderful, self sustaining fics without having to include the backstory, but here, we almost always include Danny's accident either in the beginning or as a flashback of some sort. So you don't have to watch the show to know what the show was about- you can find a fic, any fic, and know exactly what happens. There are writers for other fandoms with similar mindsets, but not at the rate we see here. (Not that it's a bad thing, I think it's cool seeing different takes on the same story. Especially since we don't really see the initial accident except through the theme song, so most takes on the accident are potentially unique anyway.)

3. Honestly? There's not as much gate keeping here than there is in other fandoms. I know it's not unique to DP, but it's interesting I think, because there's a stark contrast from this fandom to other fandoms where half the audience is trying to out-fan the others, while everyone here is like "oh hello you're new can I introduce you to a good fic?" It's a nice break from "i know more than you. Im the bigger fan."

4. We're more interested in reveal fics than other fandoms might be. Reveal fics are fun for all fandoms imo but it's fascinating how many reveal fics you can find in this fandom alone. I can't even come up with an explanation for it, I just think it's interesting.

5. We manage to adopt people into the fandom a lot and some reason we never leave or move on? People fall out of other fandoms all of the time, but when we join DP, we stick around a while.

Not to mention Phanniemay and Ectober, the fact that everyone hates Butch Hartman, the way we create and spread background characters so quickly, the phases the fandom has gone through, and the canon we have all agreed to ignore.

So in short, somehow we have created a community that inspires not just through the source material but also through itself and each other while also often abandoning the source material.

Sorry. I know this strays from your question about how other fandoms are unique, not how DP is unique from other fandoms, but these are all notable things that make DP such a wild fandom to join. What do you think?

But, yeah!  I think you’ve hit a lot of the big points-- It’s certainly why I stayed after falling in out of sheer nostalgia.  I suspect a lot of it is because we’re a ‘mature’ fandom...  As in, it has been a long, long time since we got new content or a new influx of people and a lot of the drama’s already been had.  Also, we’ve decided to kill ‘god.’  Except whatever’s going on with instagram cosplayers?  I don’t know.  

I’ve seen a lot about how our phandom is different, but this is my primary (only, really) fandom, so I haven’t really seen how others act and interact.  Not firsthand.  And these little snippets mean a lot to me.  It’s just so interesting.  Because we’re all on the surface the same type of thing, but there are so many little differences?

They might be mysterious or secretive, but probably possess decent intuition. They might speak in riddles and may cause people to approach/see things from different angles and methods. This person is helpful and giving, but they understand what amount of help is needed and isn’t inclined to go overboard when it isn’t needed, and perhaps help in ways that aren’t likely to be traced back to them. Everything isn’t totally as it seems with them, and I’m not entirely sure if that’s a good or a bad thing.

This person is coming into your life as they are working hard, being productive, and building confidence/overcoming self-doubt. In short, they’re working on themselves and it’s working out. Meanwhile all those humanitarian aid bills and the like are all being passed by bail and padmes group all over the place bc their strange and inexplicable source of resistance was devoured like, a week ago Not ones to look a gift horse in ths mouth until AFTER they get what they want the group passes a ton of bills without delay - and manages to break up a few monopolies along the way Now im not saying that "palpatine" suddenly acting off and the bills facing a lot less resistance is a noticeable coincidence...... and around the same time he stops asking after anakin ............... but im totally saying they notice it and realize its probably, absolutely, not a coincidence and theyre not going to say anything bc they like this new "palpatine" better. Despite all the other mindbending weirdness and mindfuckery going on there The jedi are only mad abt alcor bc a few of their own started bleeding from the eyes nose and ears when they tried to investigate initially so theyre a little ticked off abt that, which, fair.

Also the blantant lying and lack of trying on alcors part is a little insulting to them as a whole ("does he think we'll really fall for that") and is slightly concerning to them ("who the heck is this, someone is inpersonating the chancellor of the ENTIRE REPUBLIC-" Which is, admittedly, a little concern worthy)  but if the council is honest (or some of the council anyway) with themselves its pretty much the darn best entertainmnt theyve had in a good long while, headaches aside, sot ehyll focus more on the okd palpatines dissapernace and dealings than the new "palpatine" so long as he doesnt start doing anything ACTIVELY damaging to the republic. A little mischief doesnt technically count as harm- and hey theys preffer to find the og chancellor b4 upsetting and potnetially causing the new one to do smth drastic by attsmpting to out him (not that alcor would, its so much funnier to deny everything to their faces while blatantly lying but they dont know that. So caution (and stress) it is)

honestly i am simply in the mood to talk about pokéspe so here i am! i have come with questions (and opinions).

1) what's your favorite arc of the manga? i need to reread the whole manga at some point because i know my favorite arc is influenced by nostalgia but At This Point it's probably ruby/sapphire, but followed incredibly closely by or tied with g/s/c and hg/ss. x/y is also up there.

2) what's your LEAST favorite arc of the manga? this is a bit of a tough question for me because i truly love almost all of the manga but luckily for me there's an almost in there. i simply do not enjoy the omega ruby/alpha sapphire arc. it does not vibe with me. it's not necessarily bad for any specific reason but i just don't click with the story or characters as much as usual.

3) do you have a physical manga collection? this question is mostly so i can gush about mine whoops. over quite a few years i've collected every arc from red/blue to x/y and my books are my favorite thing i own! unfortunately my x/y collection is all mini volumes which i personally am not a fan of, so i'll end up reselling them and replacing them with normal volumes when i can. as of now i'm on a break from buying new volumes until there are more normal volumes out.

HIII sorry for the late response I was sleeping but fuck yeah pokespe infodumping moments let's go

1. oogh this is kind of hard . I want to say RGB just for nostalgia reasons and also because it's the one I've reread the most (partially because it's a genuinely really good read, partially because I keep telling myself I want to reread the original continuity and then leaving off at RS for whatever reason and restarting UBUDAMKJNID) . I think the best arcs, ones I would recommend to people who didn't care about reading the books in order for whatever reason, would probably be either RS or XY. RS stands better on its own a little more than XY though, iirc (XY has a lot of callbacks DNJISJJO). I also have a soft spot for FRLG just because it's kind of funny how fucking miserable and angsty it is for the good portion of it it's like the emo teen phase of pokespe

2. This one is Also hard but not as much. When I think "least favorite" I tend to try and think of something I actively dislike but I feel like the only contender here is ORAS because honest to God I like read it once when I was 16 and I cannot remember a single fuckign thing . That happened in it ? I have no feelings about it other than the art was nice 👍 DJSKNFNJKS aside from that uhh I think that B2W2 is like... the weakest? Which makes sense because of the whole . Hiatus thing . But idk by the time I finished reading it (I waited to read it until it was finished) I remember feeling like there was a lot of wasted potential with Lack-Two and Whi-Two's characters . Given Pokespe has made a lot of commentary in the past about corruption and, for lack of a better term, the literal enslavement of children and how it's Obviously Evil and Bad, I figured that they would have like... a more emotional character arc, like Blue or Silver did? But IIRC they just didn't, there was set-up but no payoff. It has the same energy as like... if HGSS had ended with Silver actually going back and training under Pryce . Nothing felt resolved with these kids' internal issues, they just went full circle. Maybe I am misremembering something but yeah i guess in terms of Pokespe arcs I'm very forgiving, and I'm usually like "this arc might be kinda bad but it has a lot of good!" but B2W2 had the least good and the most bad, so like . Yeah

Also honorable mention for both questions . HGSS . I cannot tell if it's actually good but I have a lot of mental illness about it . 8/10

And lastly, 3; I DO but it's a fucking unorganized Disaster Area rn. I also have a really weird assortment of books that's only really helped by me having half of the collector's volumes. I meant to get more but we asked for something really expensive for Christmas, so I might try to get my hands on the rest for our birthday ? Idk . I don't have a bookshelf so my Pokespe display is actually just... the top of my dresser? So I don't actually have a lot of space to uh . Put them . But yknow NDKMOAIJND If I have the energy later I might clean and reorganize the display so I can get a decent picture of it

Marvel Part 2

I was nervous about watching this set of films, because I know they are the least critically-acclaimed. I figured they would be a slog to get through, mostly filler between the big Avengers events. But I was surprised to find that these films were actually quite character-driven and plot-heavy, albeit relying on the previous events to make everything that much more satisfying. There’s definitely something to be said for knowing what’s going on when you watch a film, as opposed to passively being engaged in the spectacle (which I am often guilty of). I wouldn’t be so quick to write these movies off in the future.

Thor: The Dark World – Alan Taylor, 2013

Bookending The Avengers with the first two Thor films made for an interesting viewing experience. As mentioned earlier, watching things in chronological order made the overarching plot much easier to follow. I liked seeing what happened with Loki immediately after the events of New York, and that was a nice reminder that not much time has passed between the first Thor and this one. People hate on this movie a lot, and even Ragnarok makes fun of it, but it’s really not that bad. Yes, it’s incredibly dramatic, but it’s also pretty darn exciting! There’s magic, there’s aliens, Chris Hemsworth does that cute Thor smile that melts hearts everywhere. It’s a grand old time. Phase 2 of Marvel is typically regarded as the worst of the bunch, but in my opinion these movies are still pretty darn enjoyable. 

Iron Man 3 – Shane Black, 2013

Speaking of movies that I thought I hated, there’s this. I only saw it one time and then let the popular opinions sway me into dissing this movie again and again. Turns out this is an introspective look at how being in a war zone will negatively affect even the most confident of civilians. Tony suffers from extreme anxiety after New York and has to confront who he is without his armor (literally and metaphorically). It’s so rare that we get to see superheroes get this stripped down, and it’s a nice reminder that Iron Man is really just a guy under all that bravado. My boyfriend thinks that the hatred of this film comes from the portrayal of the Mandarin and how that differs from the comic books, but I think the way they did it here is a really interesting take on a cookie-cutter villain. Don’t write this off so quickly.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier – Joe and Anthony Russo, 2013

Aka the film where everyone fell in love with Sebastian Stan. No? Just me? What can I say, there’s something about guyliner that really gets me going. Seeing Cap get gritty and real after the optimism in his first outing makes it clear why the Russos were handed the keys to the MCU kingdom. This is a very well-constructed movie, deftly introducing new characters and story elements that feed into the greater plot without compromising what we already know and love. It sets the foundation for Steve and Natasha’s friendship going forward and helps fill in the blanks for what’s happening on Earth while there are galactic happenings in the other films. Plus the fight scenes in this film are truly epic. Steve’s takedown of the Hydra agents in the elevator is for sure one of the highlights. The ending does drag a little, but the rest of the film sets the tone for many of the other MCU entries going forward.

Guardians of the Galaxy – James Gunn, 2014

And now, onto something completely different! This movie, much like Captain Marvel, does feel slightly out of place when watched in sequence with the others. But since it takes place in 2014, we have to watch it here. I can understand why this is the favorite of many Marvel fans. In many ways, it feels much more like a comic book than the others. It’s colorful, it’s chaotic, and being set against the backdrop of ‘80s pop music gives it a certain sense of nostalgia. You can’t help but dance along with Quill in the opening number, and it does wonders to endear him to the audience. The ragtag gang is always a fun dynamic to play with, even more so when they’re criminals. Oh, and Lee Pace is there, which means I will automatically like the movie more. The characters are edgy and unique, each with distinct personalities and quirks. Those do soften out a bit over the course of the movies, which is a shame as they all get lumped into one ensemble and become flatter for it. But there is no doubt that this is a very fun time. 

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – James Gunn, 2017

This movie was slightly disappointing, thought it was much more enjoyable right on the heels of the first one (as opposed to three years later in theaters). I don’t love the Guardians sense of humor, it tends to be a little bit too goofy and rely on cringing or making fun of others as opposed to real jokes. So for me, I didn’t have the best time here. The only thing of value to the overarching storyline is the evolution of Nebula as a character, and builds connection between the characters. Although much of that connection is built off-camera, between the two movies. There aren’t even any Infinity Stones in this movie. It feels too unnecessary to have a whole movie just about getting the characters where they need to be when we won’t see them again until Infinity War. Space escapades are fun and all, and Baby Groot is always a bonus. Okay, and the soundtrack is also excellent, and there were a few moments that genuinely did make me laugh. My problem is it makes the jump back to Earth very jarring, and I wish there was a way to smooth that out somehow.

Avengers: Age of Ultron – Joss Whedon, 2015

Ah, Age of Ultron. Another movie that seems to be widely disliked by the fans. I saw this at a midnight premiere as well, and I had a great time. I had a great time watching it now as well. Ultron’s creation is truly haunting, and his cold, calculating logic in destroying the human race feels almost reasonable. If you’ve been paying attention, then Ultron no longer seems like an overreaction from Iron Man, but instead an extension of his anxiety and his drive to protect everyone now that he knows what’s out there. The movies in between the first Avengers and this one actually did a good job of setting up where everyone is emotionally and why it’s important for them all to be back for this major event. Plus, here we get some nice character-building for Hawkeye, my main man. This pushes the Avengers in a new way, with world-ending stakes, and I think it’s great. Not only are they fighting an endless army of robots, but this time they’re also racing against the clock because they’re on a city in the sky. It’s so cool! Not to mention loads of other things get set up in this film, from Vision to Thor’s epiphany about the Infinity Stones. It sets the stage for a whole new era of Avengers, one that I’m very excited to move on to.
