Why did they do that tho
Every once in a while I think about how in the books, Geralt does anything and everything for his Dandelion, and goes murdercrazy when Dandelion is threatened/captured, and Geralt loves and looks after his Dandelion at every point And the netflix show made Geralt hate him, ignore him, and barely acknowledge his pain after getting TORTURED I just- YOU DON'T NEED TO BE AN ASSHOLE TO YOUR FRIENDS TO BE A 'BADASS HERO'!
In my heart they are happy and in love and geralt's not a cunt <3 I am a okay with the the half of the fandom that is firm on them just being friends, hell yeah they're friends! Amazing ones, at that! But you know who we all hate? The people who agree with TWN!Geralt's treatment of his bard... For shame... For shame....

Here's the thing. I'm a girl, and as a girl, I really like it when girls are portrayed in fiction. Especially fantasy.
But so much fiction/fantasy mixes up 'girls' with 'unstoppable forces of female badass' and there's not necessarily anything wrong with having a character who is an 'unstoppable forces of female badass'. But it gets old real quick. And it is not the same as portraying normal girls, or having good female characters.
And that's one of the many reasons I love Avatar the Last Airbender.
Because all the girl characters have flaws and weaknesses and sometimes act like idiots or jerks. They get emotional and make mistakes. They lose fights or arguments or are just wrong sometimes. Some of them are amazing warriors, and some aren't. Some are powerful or special and some are normal, with nothing special about them.
And I Love that.
I was around the same age as Katara when I first watched Atla. And I instantly connected with her as a character. I loved her optimistic attitude and her fighting spirit. And I could relate with her anger, and with her maternal instinct. I admired her fighting skills of course, but I loved how the show portrayed her compassion and kindness, the way she could both beat up a bunch of bullies AND enjoy a relaxing day at the spa. She was a baddass warrior that should never be crossed. But she was also a normal teenage girl who had a lot of the same internal struggles and problems that I did.
(I never connected to Toph on the same level, but I did relate to her on a few things. She's an adorable trash gremlin who would commit any crime for fun and I love that. But she struggles with being both independent and letting people help her, and I still struggle with that sometimes. I've learned that sometimes, you can help others by letting them help you.)
Yue is, in my opinion, a perfect example of a type of hero that seems to be disappearing. She is not a warrior. She is not a fighter. She's not even a bender.
Yue is a perfect princess, a perfect daughter. She is extremely feminine in a rather older sense.
And she was the only one who could save the world. She gave up everything for her people. She saved everything, everyone, the entire world. Without ever becoming a fighter.
Yue is a perfect example of a girl who was never more than a girl, and how that's okay. Not every girl has to be rough and tumble and fight for her rights in order to change everything. Sometimes it's okay to just be a quiet obedient girly girl. Sometimes that's all it takes to be a hero.
And I love that. Yue is strong in her own way. She is unique and interesting. She appears in only a few episodes and yet manages to be one of my favorite characters.
Song is another great example of this. Song is a healer in a small town. We don't see much of her but we see her compassion and empathy. She is gentle and generous. A healer not a fighter.
She watches Zuko steal her ostrich horse and does nothing.
Is that because she's kind and generous and knows he needs it more? Or is it because she's a healer girl who knows she can't actually stop those two from taking the horse? Maybe neither, maybe both. I have always thought that the scene where Zuko steals the horse and only the audience knows she saw it is one of the most thought-provoking in the series.
Suki is a badass warrior woman who is an awesome fighter and good leader. She is one of the best non bender fighter we see in the entire show. She was one of the smartest, most efficient, and powerful characters we ever saw.
She kissed a boy she had just met because she thought he was cute.
Now don't get me wrong I love SokkaxSuki. Its one of the best couples in the show.
But Suki totally did the old 'love at first sight' thing. And that is awesome. Because when she kisses him she delivers one of the best lines, not only from her, but, I think, in the entire show.
"I AM a warrior, but I'm a girl too."
Being a warrior doesn't mean that she isn't also a teenage girl. She might be a fighter, but she still gets crushes and likes to flirt with cute boys. And hey, she picked a good one. Not every boy is going to come break you out of prison.
Anyways, let's have more realistic girls in fiction. And please enjoy the next 24 hours.

hymns of the unholy drops tomorrow, I'm gonna make a track tier list but here's my initial thoughts before it comes out:
This feels worthy of a "read more" just because there's no pictures to look at and it's four paragraphs. TL;DR the album is very cheesy but I'm literally so excited I'm gonna stay up all night so I can listen to the new album the second it drops. The overly critical part of my brain is telling me I shouldn't derive enjoyment from this album unironically but I'm not gonna obey, I am cringe and free and I'm gonna crank this shit with no shame cause it's the game I like...IN MUSIC FORm
Tumblr media
[gif meant to represent me randomly busting it down leshy style when I'm home alone, and singing "THE END AWAITS AS THE OLD FAITH TAKES THE LAST OF MY KIIIIINDDDD" over and over]
The lamb's song was kickass and if I heard it in the wild without knowing there was a metal album for this game, I'd spontaneously combust from sheer excitement. It's instantly recognizable and that's kinda all I wanted from it tbh! I've mentioned before that I'm way more of a djent/shoegaze/sludge fan when it comes to metal rather than the genre these songs have been, but I'm literally so excited the bishops are getting some kind of inclusion in a project that I'm gonna crank this album even if it reminds me of the shadow the hedgehog game soundtrack. Tbh this one is so solid that if they JUST announced this one and didn't make the others, I'd still think it'd stand alone quite well for what it is! Edit: I said I'm cringe and free, why did I spend half this section dunking on the genre.....
Leshy's song..........was totally lame but in an epic way, like the first time I listened to it I thought it was fine! But when I actually read the lyrics I had tears streaming down my face from laughter. I screamed out loud when the guy basically says "btw my name is leshy :)", the lyrics are actually so fucking bad. But c'mon it's LESHY he's the littlest brother, if anyone got a corny ass song it should really be him. The shredding solo at the end is fucking hilarious and if he was in charge of his own song, he 10000% would request that specific ending. Musically, this one sounds the least like the source material so far but it's got that arpeggio from his + amdusias' theme and that's arguably the most iconic part. Also, "DAYLIGHT WILL COME UNDONE AS WE ECLIPSE THE SUN" is insane and is the best part besides describing his blindness as "ETERNAL NIGHTFALL"
Heket's song...........It has my favorite lyrics so far but the vocal work after the 40 second mark had to grow on me. I can't describe it but it sounds like that post grunge style and as a grunge fan, post grunge is my biggest opp in the music world. I was hoping they'd get a female singer for this but for heket specifically I can understand why they didn't. The actual lyrics in the song are fuckin badass, when it gets to the "MAKE YOUR PEACE, CREATURE" part I always turn it up to a deafening volume because it goes BALLISTIC. Genuinely my favorite part of any of these songs so far. I adore that her characterization in this song is layered and isn't just "I'm leshy, I'm made of plants or something and also I'm gonna kill you", it goes through her arc PERFECTLY imo!! Instrumentals in this one are better than the leshy song as well, I really like that they brought back the pitch bending/choppy sampling from the ost for this one
I'm on my hands and knees begging for the shamura song to be good, the leshy song had me worried but they came in clutch for heket. If they don't work in shamura's iconic lines from the game, I'm gonna cry inside I think- I'll forgive a lame kallamar song but ONLY if it's funny. Narinder's theme is gonna be hard to fuck up imo I have faith it'll be top tier

absolution live 2017/2023
here I am with my over 1,5k word autistic ramble about the differences between absolution live from 2017 and 2023. at the end there is an audio file of both versions put together, if anyone would be interested in that. it sound very cool heh
also tags for people who showed interest in this: @forest-rot @ghuleh-recs @counting-eyerolls @ngnt-writes @ghnosis @rain-ghoul-appreciator @sister-rosemary-marie
anyway, under the cut
I will start with an analysis of instruments and players separately, one by one, and then I’ll talk about the whole thing a little bit. Also I’m using only ghoul names in there, but when I’m talking about styles and skills I obviously mean the unmasked folks.
Both in 2017 and 2023 we have Mountain on drums, which gives us a very fun comparison opportunity. In 2017 he goes heavy on the cymbals—according to the original version of the song—but it makes the whole thing a bit too crashy and too clogged. The drums are very widely mixed and set—slightly focused on the left side following the stage layout from then—but I think the cymbals could be a bit quieter in comparison to the actual drums, especially the floor tom. In general we can hear how smaller Mountain’s kit was in 2017. In 2023 the entire drum part is sharper and deeper, more bassy and it’s focused more in the middle. The way it feels to me, in 2017 the drums are the background and in 2023 they are the core. Mountain has better fills in 2023, he obviously got more comfortable just jamming in there and having fun over the years.
Dewdrop on bass in 2017; we can hear (or at least I can) that he is not a bassist. He scrapes his pick on the strings a lot which is connected to him being primarily a guitarist—it’s about the picking hand placement and angle. The bass is pretty quiet and it has overdrive on it. It helps conceal his buzzing a little bit, because it happens a fair amount for Dewdrop. Again—bass is not his main instrument. We can also hear exactly when he slams it, like we know he loves doing. In general sometimes he’s quieter and sometimes he’s louder and it’s mostly caused by his picking; how he angles his hand in certain moments and how much strength he puts into it. At the end he goes absolutely feral. Not surprising.
Rain in 2023 is amazing. He’s very skilled, and it’s a huge shame Ghost doesn’t have any songs that could really allow him to show off. He hit his cue a bit too fast at one point, but it might as well be intentional. He’s so much clearer and cleaner, both due to his skills and the settings. Rain has more drop, he most likely has his bass on a different pickup setup than Dewdrop, plus they used different basses—Rain’s with additional mods. One of those mods is a very heavy bridge—Badass Bass—and I bet we can thank that piece for the sustain and note definition in Rain’s playing. In general it flows more, fits into the whole image better. His changes in volume are controlled, not accidental like it happens for Dewdrop. Rain puts more slides, tiny additions and note changes into his live playing, it makes it a bit more lively to me. He’s put perfectly in the middle, nicely blended with the drums.
Unfortunately there isn’t much I can say about Ifrit, Dewdrop, Aether and Phantom mainly because “Absolution” isn’t really a guitar focused song and so it isn't the best song to compare guitar skills, either. The most interesting part—guitar wise—is the solo and little fills on the rhythm now and then.
Ifrit is very precise, I couldn’t hear any mistakes from him, but also the lead is surprisingly quiet in general. His palm muting is on spot, pull-offs and hammer-ons both in the chorus and the solo are very clean and he is simply a pro, he’s got super skills and I wish we could’ve gotten more (</3). He makes the whole song as lively as his stage personality, it sounds flowy but packed with emotions and still so precise it hurts.
Dewdrop’s sound is way better, though he and Ifrit are close skill wise. The difference between Hagstrom Fantomen and Fender Stratocaster is a big one, the main aspect that we can hear is the sharpness of the former and more grounded sound of the latter. Those two guitars also have a very different pickup arrangements—Dew’s strat has SSS (3x single-coils) pickups and he uses the bridge one (which is a Seymour Duncan Hot Rail), and the Fantomen’s has HH (two humbuckers that can be slip, but as far as I’m aware no ghoul used that feature), also with the bridge one used more frequently. In “Absolution” Dewdrop doesn’t add very much—as he does to some other songs—so it’s pretty much the same as the original version. There are small differences that inherently come with his style and that is what makes his version differ from both Ifrit’s and the album's, but it’s all very slight. Dew also makes a very good use of his pedals, mainly wah—especially at the end.
Aether is a bit off tempo in some parts. He plays well, mostly clean, but we can pick out some slight mistakes—mostly sounds that aren’t supposed to be there. His palm muting is a bit too light. He goes heavy on the pick which makes his part of the solo a bit sharp (especially that he’s playing the higher harmony) and square-ish. The sharpness is, again, something we can partially blame on the Fantomen. Only partially because both Ifrit and Phantom prove that it’s manageable.
Phantom is very clean, he adds a lot of slides which is a feature of his personal style. Said style of his is very lively and fun, to me it sounds and feels like a slinky (don’t laugh at me it’s the autism). He’s more fluid both in the solo and the rest of the song than Aether, but makes one—barely noticeable—mistake in the solo where he misses a note.
Also Phantom and Dewdrop in 2023 are more in sync than Aether and Ifrit in 2017. For whatever reason.
Now keyboard; Zephyr goes absolutely ham on the keys, but it is a piano song so that’s not only understandable, but also desirable, I would say. Key’s are in the right ear with slight migration to the middle when it matters, again according to the stage layout. Their precision and speed and overall skill is insane, the ending when they go wild is the most impressive part, because the song itself doesn’t give many opportunities. If you haven’t seen a video of Zephyr playing that ending you gotta do it now because it really is insane (RIP to that Nord Stage 2 though). The synth fill before the solo in 2017 is played back, in 2023 it’s played live by Cirrus.
In 2023 Cirrus plays the main chorus keyboard part, it can be heard easily on the left side (so once again stage layout accordingly). It’s clean and precise, she’s also very skilled, but unfortunately doesn’t really show off at the end like Zephyr does. Cumulus plays some chords before the solo while Cirrus plays the synth fill.
Vocals are not my thing so I’m only going to say what most of us can hear; Terzo is very nasal, but cleaner, and sings a bit higher. Clear pronunciation, good flow. It’s closest to Tobias’ normal singing voice. Copia is even more nasal, more growly and raspy. They’re both, obviously, in the middle in case of mixing.
Backing vocals in 2017 are all play-back for obvious reasons—pretty simple, taken straight off of the album recording. It’s put on the left, but it could be more favorable in the middle. 2023 is way more spectacular thanks to—mainly—the backing vocals. They are 90% Aurora and Cumulus, with lower levels of Cirrus and barely anything of Swiss. He’s louder by the end. I’m still conflicted about the growls—if it is Swiss or Papa’s play-back—but it’s a great addition that was very mild in 2017’s play-back. The backing vocals are on the sides, accordingly to the stage layout. It all just adds more spice, I adore them.
Sound engineering and mixing is so much better in 2023. We can easily tie it to the budget (though I’d like to “blame” it on Hayden’s part in the engineering, he’s a mastermind, too). The sound is much clearer and fluid than in 2017, it highlights all the instruments perfectly at the same time. Mixing in 2017 is more blunt, it’s a bit duller and some changes in volumes and placements of instruments could—or even should—be made. It doesn’t mean 2017 sucks—far from it—it’s just a technical difference which actually warms my heart if we look at how far has Ghost come. So, once again, considering the budget in 2017 vs. 2023 it’s all understandable. Also the crowd sound control in 2023 is very fun; it makes a great use of all the yelling causing the whole song to sound warmer and fuller.
Both 2017 and 2023 are on the exact same tempo, they can be put over each other perfectly (which I did). They slide apart at the end and the break before the outro is longer in 2023. The 2023 outro itself is pretty boring in comparison to 2017, most likely because in 2023 it’s not a closing song. Below there’s both “Absolutions” over each other; 2023 in the left and 2017 in the right headphone.

Here more losers and delulus obsessively trying to hype an irrelevant character, to add to your list:
SEAN BEAN:
Who would you want to see on the Iron Throne at the end of the series?
Sansa would be good, because she’s my daughter. Either her or Arya.

KIT HARINGTON:

MAISIE WILLIAMS:
Who do you think deserve to win the game of thrones
Sansa Stark. I think she would be an incredible ruler. And I think that she is like just so true and so honest, she has learnt so much. And I think she would be an incredible ruler of Westeros.
—Maisie Williams

Who do you think should end up on the Iron Throne when all is settle down?
Sansa Stark. I think Sansa is just the most incredible character. And I think she has learnt so much. And I think the world would be a better place with Sansa Stark on the Iron Throne.

BRYAN COGMAN:
BRYAN COGMAN: In the pilot, Sansa’s main function was informing members of her family and the audience that the only thing she wanted was to get out of Winterfell and go live in the big city and become queen—except a very different kind of queen than the one she ended up being. So Sansa’s storyline was always meant to have a note of triumph at the end, especially after all that she went through in the middle of the series. It was appropriate that she came full circle at the end. She was the only Stark left in Winterfell and leads the North into this new chapter. She’s the best hope for the North’s future.

2023-2024 cdramas year in review
i'm borrowing this idea from thai bl tumblr, but with less fun categories because i'm tired. i'm including shows from this year and last year since i mainly watched a mixture of the two in 2024.
tagging whoever wants to do it!
overall favorite show (2024): fangs of fortune it's gorgeous, i love the characters, and it's got one of the most shippable poly casts i've seen in basically ever.
Tumblr media
overall favorite show (2023): mysterious lotus casebook i actually did watch this one last year and i liked it, but it wasn't until i rewatched it again in 2024 that i lost my mind over it.
Tumblr media
favorite character: di feisheng from mysterious lotus casebook my love my darling my heart. i adore him with every fiber of my being. i honestly never really noticed xiao shunyao too much before this but he's sure got my attention now.
Tumblr media
favorite character runner up: pei sijing from fangs of fortune sorry, you can't give me a badass kuudere archer and expect me to NOT be absolutely nuts about her. cheng xiao has also improved SO much from her early days acting and i think it's super neat that they incorporated her dancing background into her fight scenes.
Tumblr media
favorite ship: dihua from mysterious lotus casebook see above about losing my mind. it's got everything i love in a ship: history, tension, longing, being totally obsessed with one another. i've written so much this year and most of it is for them.
Tumblr media
favorite ship runner up: jingxiao from fangs of fortune GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS i love them and they love each other. i love how flirty wx is with psj and how sincere and open psj is with wx.
Tumblr media
favorite canon ship: song mo/dou zhao in blossom this is still airing so i hope they don't fuck it up, but it's such a refreshing dynamic. they're really partners, and he's so gone for her.
Tumblr media
favorite canon ship runner up: gu jiusi/li yuru in destined i'm not really a fan of straight romance dramas but the strongest arc of this show is undoubtedly the first one, where they unwillingly get married and slowly fall in love. bjt is particularly charming in this role and song yi is lovely per usual.
Tumblr media
favorite fl: dou zhao in blossom i love that she's careful and meticulous but not omnipotent. she's working at changing what she can but she's not a miracle worker. she feels warm and human and fallible in the best way. also mzy is gorgeous and i love her, fuck the haters.
Tumblr media
favorite fl runner up: xue fangfei in the double she's batshit overpowered and it's still contrived in some instances but wu jinyan sells it enough that i just eat it up hahah.
Tumblr media
favorite ml: li lianhua in mysterious lotus casebook his burnt out gifted kid ass is captivating. he has so many complex layers; it's a role that really gives cheng yi a chance to stretch his muscles and i think he did a great job.
Tumblr media
favorite ml runner up: pu yiyong in oh no! here comes trouble he's a dumbass delinquent with a hereditary power to see spirits and release them, what's not to love.
Tumblr media
favorite female supporting role: yang ying in a journey to love one of the best character arcs i've seen in a long, long time. i love her journey and where she ends up and i hope she gets everything she ever wants. iconic role for helan dou imo.
Tumblr media
favorite female supporting role runner up: feng baobao in am nobody she doesn't understand human interaction and she loves knives and is good at them. she was made for me.
Tumblr media
favorite male supporting role: yu shishan in journey to love breakout role for fang yilun, suave playboy with a heart of gold, faithful brother in arms. i adore him.
Tumblr media
favorite male supporting role runner up: wang ye in i am nobody lazy, lowkey, and the best in the world. a good look for hmh also.
Tumblr media
favorite antagonist: shen yurong from the double what a thoroughly unhinged man. i particularly loved the middle section of the show and the back and forth between him and xff. i wanted him to take a different path, but he couldn't.
Tumblr media
favorite antagonist runner up: li lun from fangs of fortune oh my beautiful, bitter, lovelorn tree demon. he's like catnip for me.
Tumblr media
favorite antagonist honorable mention: gong shangjue from my journey to you so intense, so brooding, so murderous.
Tumblr media
bonus 2023 thai show section
favorite overall show: moonlight chicken i just really loved this show. i like both gemfourth and earthmix and while i did not enjoy the bit of firstkhao pandering at the end, i thought it was a generally thoughtful exploration of human foibles.
Tumblr media
favorite cast: my school president they're adorable and i love them. this is overall such a fun, feel good show with great music. tinngun are wonderful and so are the secondary couples. special shoutout to babygirl por's outfits.
Tumblr media
most ridiculous sex scene: bed friend you know the one.
Tumblr media
biggest disappointment: only friends i still haven't finished it. i'm just not invested in anything or anyone. i think part of it is that i don't really love the cast, out side of neo and mark. i do like first and khao but not really together, sadly.

The Straw Hats As My Spotify Wrapped
Look, this post is very self-indulgent and chronically online. I understand it's probably just for me, and I'm okay with that. I've watched a lot of One Piece this year and have made it all the way from Fishman Island to where I'm snuggly in Act 2 of Wano. I'll provide my rationale, but I just wanted to share the random songs from my wrapped that remind me of the Straw Hats and a couple bonus people! I'll also throw in a specific lyric to show what I mean.
THIS BEING SAID: I think everyone should do this. All the people I follow and all mutuals. I would LOVE to see everyone's wrapped songs and pair it with their fave characters.
LUFFY Meet Me At Our Spot - THE ANXIETY, WILLOW
Okay, I labored over this one. There are a few songs that give me Luffy vibes for different reasons, but this one kind of just fits in the sense where I just...feel like it's the best vibe? It's about youth and forgetting about your worries by spending time with the person you care about. Luffy is that person for so many people and his crew means everything to him. It's like an escape, kind of like freedom. Idk. I also thought about Doombop by the Toxhards for him.
Meet me at our spot Got something I wanna show you Meet me at our spot They can't find us there
ZORO Heavy Is The Crown - Linkin Park
I know people have their opinions about this song's placement in LOL and the new Linkin Park singer, but I think this song is just kind of awesome for a war chant. I feel like you could make an AMV of any Zoro fight to this song and it would elevate it.
You can't win if your white flag's out when the war begins Aimin' so high but swingin' so low Tryin' to catch fire but feelin' so cold
NAMI not yours, never was - Cherub Tree
Please, please listen to riot grrrl music. Nami is a badass and this just feels like the perfect woman empowerment song for her.
Let's smoke the parliaments and burn them all to ashes You think you're gonna stop me? Come on dude As if you own me? Seriously?
USOPP Talk Too Much - Renee Rapp
This is for a few reasons, the obvious one being that Usopp is a talker. Through-and-through. But it's the anxiety that makes him talk so much, which Renee Rapp talks about in this song. It's definitely more of a love song, but still. I think it applies.
I'm takin' everything I see as a sign and I know it's crazy But what if it's right
SANJI Home - Cavetown
OKAY OKAY so I know people have their opinions on Cavetown but everyone is going to have to pry this song out of my cold dead hands. When I watched Whole Cake earlier this year, my love for Sanji just grew exponentially. He's been through so much but he's still just such a beacon of light. He's kind, he's caring, even after all of the pain he's been put through. I feel like this song just kind of encapsulates that part of him that still feels vulnerable from the trauma.
Get a load of this train wreck His hair's a mess and he doesn't know who he is yet But little do we know, the stars Welcome him with open arms
CHOPPER HOT TO GO - Chapelle Roan
This is mostly just because I saw an animation somebody did of Chopper doing the dance and I LOVED it. I always think of him and his cute little arms.
H-O-T-T-O-G-O Snap and clap and touch your toes Raise your hands, now body roll Dance it out, you're hot to go
ROBIN Mic Check - Sophie Hunter
Confession: this was my number one most played song this year, I've had a rough year lol. Why I chose it for Robin is kind of self-explanatory. She has been through so much and her 'I want to live' moment is very obviously iconic and impactful to the story and her character. What I like about this song is it's kind of like an acceptance of those negative, self-harming thoughts and behaviors that permeate all of us. It's kind of like a 'fuck it, we ball.'
Mic check Think I got a jacked up preset Been feeling myself start to regress All I want to be is decent Yeah I need a pick-me-up
FRANKY Na Na Na - My Chemical Romance
This man has built and rebuilt himself. His transformation from Cutty Flam to Franky is such an important shift for his character. I just feel like this song is kind of like an anthem to that, though it's more about when he became a punk in Water7. It's his own 'fuck it, we ball.' It's high-energy and I think really fits him.
(Na, na-na-na, na-na-na) Let's blow an artery (Na, na-na-na, na-na-na) Eat plastic surgery (Na, na-na-na, na-na-na) Keep your apology Give us more detonation
BROOK DEBT COLLECTOR - Jhariah
This is purely because of vibes. The song is kind of like a dark fantasy which I think suits Brook really well. Plus it's got a cool kind of jazzy funk to it that I think the Soul King would heavily fuck with.
Gravedigger Cordial killer Your payment is due, they're looking at you We've done what we can, it's out of our hands Sooner or later, it comes back again
JIMBEI Read My Mind - golda may cover (originally by The Killers)
Ah, the Fishman Island Arc. The things that came out of it about Jimbei's time in the Sun Pirates just made me love him even more. They fought so hard to save people from slavery and the injustices of the World Government, and I feel like the softer vibes of this cover feel like it would suit a flashback or reflection of that time.
The good old days, the honest man The restless heart, the Promised Land A subtle kiss that no one sees A broken wrist and a big trapeze
BONUS:
ACE Sirens - Bear Ghost
This one took a minute and I debated a few other options. Bear Ghost controversies aside, this song kind of reminded me of a meta-analysis I read about Ace a while back relating to how he perceives himself and his general self-worth. It was a very good read and maybe if I can find it I'll link it here. Anyway, this song is basically like an ongoing panic attack.
Brother, sister, please don't shame me Silence so loud But I promise I'm fine here I'm just getting my fill And if you had just what I need I wouldn't want it now
LAW vampire - Olivia Rodrigo
I slaved over which song from my list would work for Law, and there are so many. This is the least self-indulgent, the rest that remind me of him are purely based off of a stupid oc roleplay that I do not care to elaborate on lol. This song for Law, though - WOW, I just think of the struggle he went through finally taking down Doflamingo. It wasn't planned, it wasn't what his goal was, but it was so important for him to heal those old wounds.
I see the parties and the diamonds sometimes when I close my eyes Six months of torture you sold as some forbidden paradise I loved you truly Gotta laugh at the stupidity
DOFLAMINGO Good To Be King - Journey to Bethlehem
I'm sorry to report that I am a theatre kid. This musical has some bops, and while I'm not particularly religious, I absolutely loved this song. Every time I hear it, I think of Doflamingo and his time in Dressrosa.
Look how the peasants work down to the bone As I sit up high on my velvety throne Pulling the strings on the people below It’s so stinking good to be king
OKAY THAT'S IT! THANKS FOR READING IF YOU DID!

you wonder how he got his call sign
Tumblr media
Song: Don't Blame Me by Taylor Swift
Paring: mickey garcia x reader (afab)
Warning(s): None, just pure fluff!
Word Count: 2,767
Summary: A little story on how Mickey got his call sign.
Call signs. No matter if you’re in the Marines, Navy, or Air Force, you get a call sign. Some badass ones like Iceman and Maverick may have a cool background if you assume, but in reality, most of them come from pretty embarrassing things. Like Payback for example and the amount of bets that he lost. Mickey “Fanboy” Garcia, on the other hand, has another story.
The first of artists covering other artists' songs first came out in the 1950s. Soon over half a decade later, cover videos started to come out more on YouTube. Singers like Sam Tsui, Christina Grimmie, Conor Maynard, and many others have risen to fame with their covers coming out in the late 2000s/early 2010s. Some have also got the chance to be signed to record labels and winning awards like Y/N L/N. To Mickey though, he doesn’t think of Grammy Award winner Y/N L/N, he thinks of Y/N L/N who he used to help record her cover videos in her bedroom or the backyard of her house.
Every Friday since meeting each other freshman year of high school, Y/N would drag Mickey out of their last period class and out of their high school in Miami to her house to start recording cover videos. As she uploaded her videos onto YouTube, her views went from a few hundred to a few thousand until one day.
“Mickey! Mickey!” The junior yelled her best friend’s name as she ran down the school hallway. “Where are you?”
“Yo! What’s going on?” Mickey closed his locker after grabbing everything he needed.
He turned to face the singer whose face was all red from the running as the screen of her BlackBerry Bold was in his line of sight. Squinting his eyes a little, he looked at the screen which showed one of the recent covers she uploaded.
“Holy shit!” He exclaimed. “One hundred thousand?”
“I know right!” The two of them started to jump together in celebration, ignoring the looks they’re getting.
“This is crazy!” Y/N said, still not believing that her cover of Before He Cheats by Carrie Underwood reached that many views.
“You know what this means?” Mickey’s eyebrow was raised. “The chance of you getting signed to a record label.”
“Yeah, not happening,” Y/N let out a laugh. “Never in a million years.”
“Hey,” he gently squeezed her shoulder. “It’s going to happen. I have a good feeling.”
Y/N shook her head at her friend’s nonsense and dragged him to their first class of the day.
Years passed and their friendship grew even more. They shared homecoming and prom dances together. They had many all nighters studying for the AP tests they signed up for and working on college applications. The both of them dated people but their relationships only lasted for three to four months max because they both were missing something. Mickey still continued to help Y/N post her covers on her channel which grew after that one day.
Towards the end of the summer break after they graduated, the duo had to head their separate ways for college. They still kept in contact though by the emails they sent each other and visiting each other in Miami during breaks. With every visit, their feelings grew more without them realizing it.
Mickey had achieved his dream of getting into the Naval Academy and became a weapons system officer, getting the callsign Fanboy from his classmates seeing him geek out and watch Y/N’s covers. Y/N continued uploading her covers onto YouTube while studying literature at the University of Miami. It wasn’t until her senior year of college she got the best news of her life.
The sound of her sandals slapping the concrete sidewalk boomed as she ran down the concrete path which led to the park her and Mickey would sometimes hang out at. With his back facing against her, she leaped on his back which took Mickey out a little.
“Hey, you missed me that much?” Mickey laughed.
“Yeah, but I have some news,” Y/N answered.
“Which is?” He asked.
She didn’t verbally answer but she handed him the small stack of papers. Going through the papers, she saw the look on Mickey’s face as his face lit up with each page.
“No, you’re joking.” Mickey pulled her into a hug.
“I’m not,” she confirmed. “You’re looking at the newest artist signed with Atlantic Records.”
“You’re not going to forget me when you become famous right?” Mickey joked.
“Are you kidding? I won’t forget my best friend.” Y/N lightly punched his shoulder.
“Yeah, best friend,” Mickey sighed.
“What? Are you okay?” A quizzed look formed on her face.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” Mickey brushed off his emotions.
“Hey Mick, tell me what’s up.” Y/N held his hand which sent sparks through the both of them.
“You’re going to hate me when I do this,” he said.
“Do wh-” Y/N was interrupted when Mickey’s lips touched hers.
Butterflies and fireworks exploded inside them as their lips moved in sync. Detaching their lips from each other to catch their breath, they looked each other in the eyes questioning what just happened.
“Did that just?”
“Yeah.”
Kissing each other again, they confirmed that their feelings for each other were true. After the second kiss, Mickey decided to take Y/N for an early dinner to celebrate her getting a record deal and have a pre-first date date.
More years have passed with the both of them graduating with their degrees. Their relationship grew more as they became official. Mickey was out doing the five years required to serve after he graduated after the academy. Y/N on the other hand was busy writing and recording her first album. Constant filming for her music videos and traveling to promote her album.
Despite them being hundreds or thousands of miles apart, they managed to keep their relationship alive. They had many video calls together and if she toured in an area where Mickey was at, he would watch her concerts with Reuben “Payback” Finch, who is the only person that knows her and Mickey are together other than close friends and family. When Y/N started to become more well known, she wanted to keep her personal life private. She did post pictures of her and Mickey together on her social media accounts but they didn’t show Mickey’s face.
On the eve of Mickey’s last deployment, she came back home with the living room of their shared house decorated with flowers and lit candles. In the space where their coffee table used to be, Mickey was on one knee holding a velvet box in his hand. With a short and sweet speech as tears ran down their faces, Y/N nodded her head saying yes to his proposal. A few months after Mickey came back from his deployment, the two had a small private ceremony with their close friends and family in a cabin up in the Santa Cruz mountains. Reuben as Mickey’s best man and Y/N’s college roommate as her maid of honor.
Luckily for Y/N, she could travel and stay anywhere with her job. With Mickey being moved from base to base because of his job, she would follow him while still making music while renting a house off base. From time to time she would have to travel and stay in New York for a little bit for meetings and to record her music. Thankfully when Mickey got called back to Top Gun, they resided permanently in a house that was only a fifteen minute drive away from base after the Dagger Squadron was made permanent in San Diego. Many dinners with her, Mickey, and Reuben were shared as they told stories of the other squadron members they met for the mission. Y/N continued to make music and released her next album which caused her to be away from Mickey to promote it and tour around Europe and North America.
After a day of training, the Dagger Squad decided to head to the Hard Deck for some drinks.
“Amelia has been depressed since the LA tickets for Y/N sold out,” Rooster said before taking a sip of his beer.
“Really?” Mickey raised his eyebrow.
“Yeah, Y/N is one of her favorite singers. Ever since those tickets sold out the first day, she’s been blasting her music in her room and headphones,” the aviator answered.
The WSO nodded his head and excused himself. Taking his phone out, he checked the time to see that Y/N wasn’t on stage yet. Calling her and waiting for a few rings, she answered her husband’s call.
“Hey baby, what’s up?” She asked. “How was work?”
“It was good, got our asses handed by Maverick but that’s normal,” he chuckled. “How are you?”
“I’m good, just two hours before we head onto stage,” she replied. “I miss you.”
“I miss you too, but hey can I ask for a favor?” He asked.
“What is it?” She said.
“You know Rooster right?” Y/N hummed in confirmation. “Well, his little sister wants to see you in LA but the tickets sold out immediately. Is there any way you can get a ticket for her?”
“I’ll check, give me a minute,” she told him. “Stay on the line.”
Taking a sip of his drink, he waited for his wife while admiring the cooling winds of San Diego while the sun setted.
“Hey, you’re still there?” Y/N voice popped into his ear.
“Yeah, so what’s the verdict?” He replied, mentally crossing his fingers.
“Yeah, how many tickets do you need?” The singer asked. “Twelve plus your captain, his girlfriend, and daughter, that would be fifteen. Is that good?”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, we have more than enough tickets. Just tell everyone and I’ll send you the info. Also, all of y’all need a break from training.”
“Wow, I’ll tell everyone. Thank you for doing this. I love you.”
“I love you too. You can thank me later when you get to LA.” Mickey could already imagine the smirk on his wife’s face.
Hanging up the phone with a grin on his face, Mickey headed back into the bar and stood next to Rooster.
“I managed to get a ticket for Amelia,” he told the pilot.
“Wait, how?” The pilot questioned.
“I know someone who’s one of the guitar techs on her tour. I managed to get all of us plus Maverick and Penny a ticket,” he told everyone.
“Wait, we’re seeing Y/N in LA?” Phoenix started to fangirl a little. “Don’t mess with me Fanboy.”
“I’m not, I’ll text you the information into the group chat,” he confirmed.
“We’re going to see Y/N baby!” Coyote cheered.
While everyone celebrated, Reuben sent his WSO a smirk knowing who gave them the tickets.
*Concert Day*
“Mick, are you sure we’re supposed to park here?” Maverick asked as he got out of Rooster’s Bronco.
“Yeah, I’m sure,” Mickey answered his captain.
“Because we’re by where Y/N L/N’s tour bus is,” Rooster added.
“Trust me, we can be here,” Mickey reassured them while pulling out his phone.
Making the call, they waited for a few more minutes before Y/N’s manager came out of the Forum with VIP passes in hand. Mickey greeted the manager and they handed Mickey the passes. All of the members were shocked when they saw the passes they got, questioning how Mickey managed to get these. All of them thought they were getting tickets up in the nosebleeds, but they were mistaken.
“Mickey!” The singer jumped into her husband’s arms when she saw him.
“Hello my love,” the Navy man mumbled before kissing her.
Everyone except for Reuben was shocked at the sight they were seeing. They couldn’t believe that one of their WSO’s was kissing the singer they would soberly and drunkenly sing out the lyrics while doing karaoke.
“I missed you,” the singer wrapped her arms around Mickey’s neck.
“Me too, four weeks is too long.” Mickey moved a strand of hair out of Y/N’s face. “Everyone’s here already.”
Y/N moved away from Mickey and saw his pilot standing there with a grin on his face. “Ru-Ru, it’s good to see you again.”
“It’s good to see you again too,” the pilot returned her hug.
Letting go of the hug, Y/N looked at the rest of her husband’s squadron who had shocked expressions on their faces. “Hi, you must be Mickey’s squadron and you must be Amelia, is that right?”
“Y-Yeah,” Amelia stuttered as her idol stood in front of her.
“It’s so nice to meet you,” Y/N smiled at her and looked at Maverick who stood behind her. “You must be Captain Mitchell. Mickey and Reuben have been telling me great things about you.”
“It’s a pleasure meeting you m’am. Thank you for inviting us,” Maverick said.
“Anything for Mickey's adopted family,” Y/N smiled. “Also, call me Y/N.”
“I will if you call me Pete or Maverick,” Pete smiled.
“That’s a deal,” Y/N chuckled and faced the squad again. “Mickey, wanna introduce me to your team members?”
Mickey nodded his head and introduced his wife to the rest of the Dagger Squad. After the introductions, everyone headed to the greenroom.
“So, you’re telling me that Reuben knew that Fanboy over here is dating Y/N?” Hangman asked. “The same Y/N who won a Grammy and many Billboard Music awards?”
“Not dating, we’re married,” Y/N corrected the Texan.
“What!” Everyone yelled/exclaimed.
“Married for almost five years.” Mickey and Y/N looked at each other in admiration.
“You knew that already didn’t you?” Halo asked Reuben.
“He should, he was my best man,” Mickey answered for his pilot. “Also, who do you think Don’t Blame Me is about?”
“And I thought Bob over here had secrets we don’t know about,” Omaha chuckled.
“Nah, she’s the only secret that I have.” Mickey tenderly pressed his lips onto his wife’s.
Soon after that, the topic of conversation changed, promising them the couple would host dinner to get to know Y/N more.
After spending an hour or so in the greenroom, Y/N had to start getting ready for the show. Giving his wife one last kiss, he met up with the squad following one of the assistants to the VIP booth Y/N set them in. The booth provided food, snacks, and drinks for them while giving them a view close to the stage.
The lights in the venue started to dim down as the crowd’s cheers started to rise. The band started playing the introduction and the cheers from the audience elevated as Y/N rose into the stage.
Throughout the concert, the energy was amazing. Everyone was screaming and jamming out to the lyrics. All of the Dagger Squad and Penny and Amelia were enjoying the time they were having and thanking Mickey for the tickets. Mickey was pretty sure he saw Hangman and Coyote doing the choreography to I Did Something Bad.
“Alright, before we do this next song, how is everyone doing?” Y/N asked the audience as they replied with cheers. “That’s good. Fun fact, the person that I wrote this next song about is in the crowd tonight with his friends. This song is dedicated to him. Love you darling.”
Y/N sent him a wink and he winked back at her. The band started to play Don’t Blame me and everyone was taken to church by the way she performed it. The singer got down on her knees, belting out the high note which caused Mickey to form a proud smile on his face.
After a few songs and the encore, the last show of the tour was finished. Mickey and the gang headed backstage to see Y/N in a pair of sweat shorts and one of Mickey’s old t-shirts.
“You were amazing.” Mickey picked her up and spun her around.
“Thanks,” she laughed. “So, what did you guys think?”
Everyone started to compliment her performance at the same time. Y/N blushed because she wasn’t used to compliments they were giving her and let out a laugh.
“So, instead of driving back to San Diego this late, my producer is out of town and allowed us to use her house to sleepover,” Y/N told them. “What do y’all think?”
Everyone nodded their heads in approval and started to leave the venue.

Emptiness Machine. This song is so special to me. Just the best reunion song you can imagine -- first we get the taste of Mike's solo singing and explore the feeling that something is missing, and then Emily's fire-driven vocals kick in to add more energy and color. "I only wanted to be part of something" is such a great lyric in the context of the song and whole situation, because it can be about how someone's dreams and feelings got exploited (by the emptiness machine) but also about a genuine wish to connect with others (the band, the fans) and with something greater.
Cut the Bridge. One of the songs that took time to grow on me for some reason. The chorus felt strange at first, but after a few listens I began to enjoy how everything works together. This song has great lyrics, too -- the meaning isn't particularly relatable to me, but the word/rhyme choices make it all sound really cool.
Tumblr media
Heavy is the Crown. To me it's a loud, upbeat song to dance to, and very Linkin-Park-y for sure. There isn't much to say about this song, it just sounds very badass.
Over Each Other. To me it's one of the most emotional songs on the album -- Emily's vocal potential is used in a very right way, so you can hear some of the best qualities of her voice. The lyrics are my favorite mixture of simplicity and depth, even the title is a word play with both of its meanings present in the song.
Casualty. Such a fun song, I loved it immediately. Demonic Emily (you should definitely let her out and set her free) and Angry Mike (as he should be, it's only a matter of time) is a brilliant combination that hopefully will appear in more songs in the future. Talking about simplicity -- yes, the whole song is basically just screaming, but it's so cathartic that it becomes art.
Overflow. I think this song is the most beautiful on the album, a pure audio delight. And it's interesting that Overflow comes after Casualty, as both represent a perfect Mike-Emily duo, only from different sides of a spectrum, so to speak. The lyrics are so ambiguous that can be about everything and nothing, but my mind noticed a particular line -- "Ground is shakin' as it opens up to pull me in" -- that reminds me of Nothing Makes Sense Anymore, one of the darkest songs on Post Traumatic, and this thought kind of breaks my heart, but in a good way. And by this I mean that it's so fucking great to have new Linkin Park music in 2024; it's the best.
Two Faced. This song is somewhat similar to Heavy is the Crown in my mind -- it's loud, kinda badass, and has a messy dancing vibe to it. It took me some time and a few listens to fully appreciate it, but I still don't take it seriously, it still feels like some kind of parody of their Hybrid Theory era. Which isn't a bad thing, though.
Stained. This song didn't grow on me immediately, but when it did, it surely took a place in my heart. I love how Emily and Mike again make a great duo, creating a beautiful contrast with their voices and vocal techniques. I have a feeling that my relationship with this song is going to evolve even more in the future.
IGYEIH. The more I listen to this song, the more I like it. The vibe it gives me is something between Dead Sara and Linkin Park -- not like a mashup but like two worlds meeting. And the lyrics are so good, both in meaning and sounding. Again, like with Stained, I anticipate a longer future history.
Good Things Go. It's one of those songs that hit your heart effortlessly and just stay there, probably forever. I don't have anything else to say except it's my absolute favorite on the album.
_____________
To summarize: From Zero is a fantastic album. The more I listen to it, the more I like it. All the songs sound natural, having both familiar and new vibe to them. As someone said -- it's like going through the whole Linkin Park discography fit into ten songs.
My top-3 (in no particular order):
- Casualty
- Overflow
- Good Things Go

Assigning rock/metal/punk songs to the companions because why not
Halsin
Footsteps - Pop Evil
I've walked an empty mile/ Wore down this lonely soul/ I take these footsteps/ Go higher/ Go higher
(Really hard not to give him the love songs i have saved bc i love him so much)
Wyll
Leviathan - Volbeat
Horns that sprout out from your head/ A glowing light beneath the surface/ You said that you and I/Could make 'em all terrified/ And clean up the whole world
(Not only does this song reflect Wyll's journey to find and awaken Ansur, but it's WYLL, WYLL is the leviathan!!)
Karlach
I am the Fire - Halestorm
Roaring like the sun/ And I am the one/ I've been waiting for/ Screaming like a siren/ alive and burning brighter/ I am the Fire
(Very on the nose but i couldn't find a song that fit both her personality and her story like this)
Gale
Fear Inoculum - Tool
Exhale/ Expel/ Recast my tale/ Weave my allegorical elegy
(This song fits in overall vibes, lyrics, and even long-windedness [affectionate]. Literally sounds like someone casting a spell)
Shadowheart
Haunted - Evanescence
Long lost words whisper slowly to me/ Still can't find what keeps me here/ When all this time I've been so hollow inside
(Yes yes "Bring Me To Life" is a very Shart song but, aside from Evanescence being a Shadowheart BAND in general, i think the lyrics of Haunted fit her the most)
Astarion
I'm Not Jesus - Apocalyptica
When your world comes crashing down/ I want to be there/ If God is looking down on me/ I'm not Jesus/ Jesus wasn't there
(Me 🤝🏽 Astarion: surviving horrible abuse and being very bitter about it 🥲)
Lae’zel
Indestructible - Disturbed
Another mission/ The powers have called me away/ Another time/ To carry the colors again/ My motivation/ An oath I've sworn to defend/ To win the honor/ Of coming back home again
(This entire song is her entire personality and character motivation)
Minthara
Looking Down the Barrel of Today - Hatebreed
Once had a shotgun to my head/ They said i wasn't worth the bullets/ Now the world is my trigger/ And I'm here to fucking pull it
(I gotta be honest, i haven't recruited Minthara yet, so this is just off what little i know about her. She can have a badass fight song, as a treat)
Jaheira
When Legends Rise - Godsmack
Throat is dry/ My vision's fading/ I'm paralyzed/ And left here waiting/ Taking time/ Just one step forward/ Won't lose my mind/ I'm here to stay
(Jaheira is awesome and a legend. She keeps trying to give up the fight but always finds herself stepping up again because it's the right thing to do)
Minsc
Tribute - Tenacious D
So we played the first thing/ That came to our heads/ Just so happened to be/ The best song in the world/ It was the best song in the world
(¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It sounds like his exact type of story telling, and exactly like something that would happen to him lmaoooo)

I like Hazbin so far, but I do feel like we could’ve gotten a show with a lot more nuance and depth and less jokes about SA if it was written by someone other than Vivziepop, because let’s be honest the best parts of Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss are fanmade or written by other people
For example, the song Addict is honestly one of the most iconic and popular songs related to Hazbin Hotel, but it’s a fan song.
The Helluva Boss Pilot was better than Hazbin Hotel’s Pilot (subjective) because it was actually written by someone else.
You can still like HH and HB just fine, I don’t care, but people keep defending Vivziepop like she’s this saint who has done no wrong, and attacking anyone who says anything critical abut her.
Anyways, Hazbin is okay. It’s kinda average, but it’s still enjoyable that I wanna keep watching. I love Sir Pentious, hate how he was treated in Episode 6, and hey, if I get sent death threats or smth I might as well say all my opinions right now so you all can get them out.
The writers don’t know how to write women like Vaggie or Cherri Bomb
Alastor is overrated and overhyped. He could use more personality, and more screentime doing ominous and tricky things, instead of just “shows up, says threatening line, refuses to elaborate, leaves”
People in heaven acting just as bad as people in Hell (like Adam) is not a good or unique take. Good Omens has done it, and they’ve also done it better. I did like that Adam leading the exterminations was something that not everyone knew about, but I don’t think Sera should’ve known about it either. Idk exactly, but I would’ve gone about it in a different way.
Bringing back the writing women thing, I also think Charlie’s writing can be handled a little poorly from time to time. The only thing keeping her afloat for me is that she is to Rapunzel what Hellsa is to Elsa.
I hate Mimzy’s design. I don’t know why.
Actually kinda liked Lucifer just being a weird dad, but he’s should have a better redemption arc before all that.
Not Hazbin Hotel specific, but why are shows so afraid of having more than 15 episodes in a season now? I know they want to cut out filler because they no longer need to run for a certain amount of time, but honestly? Hazbin Hotel needs more episodes. It needs more time to flesh out its story, and this honestly applies to a lot of other shows whose stories could’ve been great if not for streaming.
Stephanie Beatriz is a great actress so use her better. She did amazing as Rosa Diaz from Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Vaggie is… (no offense) just another of the badass Latina stereotype. Also, she is an amazing singer, but the super high octave in her and Carmine’s song did not do her voice any justice. It does not need to be that high, you can bring it down an octave or two.
I probably will have more complaints as more episodes come out. We’ll see. I still enjoy watching the show, don’t get me wrong, but it’s not perfect. Receiving criticism doesn’t mean it’s a terrible show, just that it has room for improvement.
If you read this far, thanks. I had to make a blog because I don’t have any other socials to say anything abt it on.

🎙️ NEW EPISODE OF SUPLEX SOCIETY:
rare sit down with hook, @worshipme
the heartbreak and excitement of being a wrestling fan on monday
sad news about juice robinson
speculations and online chatter about returns
chatting about theme songs on my spotify wrapped
& MORE
transcript of the HOOK interview for subscribers. ⤵
did you have any early memories as a kid around wrestling events or training sessions? anything funny or surreal that made you think, ‘this is a wild life’?
not around wrestling, no. dad never wanted me to get into the business, actually. he'd get me signed up for a whole lot of other stuff though. judo. football. but it's definitely when i started playing lacrosse that i realized i had a crazy life. had the best gear always and my friends called me 'gucci' or 'gooch' for short. i even had my own personal trainer and nutritionist working directly with me. kind of crazy for a kid to have, you know?
you’re building a really unique look and brand for yourself. do you have any style icons or fashion inspirations that influence your personal style?
i just wear what i think looks cool. there isn't anyone that really inspires my look because i just find something i like and i'll wear it.
your in-ring presence has this silent, deadly intensity, almost like an old-school action star vibe. was that a conscious choice, or did it evolve naturally?
i think it evolved naturally. i mean, i definitely made the conscious decision to keep this character. when it really comes down to it, the persona really came around because it's just an extension of who i am. i really like keeping to myself and my circle small. if i don't like you? i'm judging you in secret.
how do you balance wanting to make your own mark in wrestling with the legacy of your dad, taz?
the ftw championship played a huge part in me making my break while still keeping up my dad's legacy. when we started to realize that with the championship i'd sorta reached a plateau, we retired it. my dad's legacy will always be there, he'll always be a name that people recognize. i gotta work to be like that too.
i know you’re big into fashion and modeling, and that’s pretty unique for a male wrestler. what’s the last piece of clothing or fashion trend that got you excited?
warren lotas's current drop right now is super sick. i went through and got one of everything in my size, i can't lie. especially since its all like hoodies and sweats. i'll never have enough of those. if it ain't comfy, then i don't want it.
Tumblr media
what’s the most memorable moment you’ve had in wrestling so far that made you think, ‘this is why i do it’?
god, this might expose me. but definitely when i wrapped that chain around my knuckles and gave that flying punch to preston vance and he ended up getting busted open. that was sick as fuck.
have you ever had a fan interaction that changed how you view your career?
oh, for sure. there was this little boy who's a fan of mine and he was all like 'you're so cool, HOOK! i want to do what you do!' that whole interaction made me realize that this was more than just getting to be on tv, meeting hot girls, and making money. there were little kids who looked up to me and thought i was cool - like a superhero. shit's wild. oh sorry, can i swear? sure, but i might have to charge you per swear, standard profanity tax. [laughs]
you don’t talk a ton on social media, which makes you a bit of an enigma. how do you decide what parts of your life you’re comfortable sharing with fans?
i mean, i've always been like that my whole life. i never really saw the point of posting on social media unless it was to show off. i also just hate people being in my business so i try to keep everything private. so really, i only post whatever i wanna show off or think is cool.
when you think of your legacy, is there a certain message or vibe you hope people will associate with HOOK years down the line?
i hope people remember me as a badass. that's really it.
if you could take a year off to master a new skill or learn something totally different, what would you choose?
honestly? i'd totally try my own hand at game design. my best friend's making his own game right now and it looks sick. i think i'm creative enough where i'd be able to make my own story game. or i just code my own fortnite-esque battlegrounds game. kidding, kidding. that genre's so oversaturated.

Boyfriend Scenarios pt. viii
how would they react during the early stages of your pregnancy?
Grizzy
Nelson’s excitement was unmatched the moment you told him. At three months, he was practically a walking encyclopedia of pregnancy facts. Every day brought a new random fact from his endless Google searches.
“Did you know the baby can hear us soon? We need to start playing music. Like… should it be classical? Or do you think they’ll like Drake?” he asked one night, his playlist already queued up on his phone.
He turned into your personal chef overnight. Whether it was midnight ice cream runs or perfecting a recipe for homemade mac and cheese because you craved it, he never hesitated. “Anything for my queen,” he’d say with a dramatic bow, making you laugh through your exhaustion.
When you started feeling self-conscious about the changes in your body, he sat you down, held your hands, and looked you straight in the eye. “You’re stunning,” he said, his voice soft and sincere. “And you’re growing a whole human. How badass is that?”
And when your back started aching, he was quick to light candles and run you a warm bath, rubbing your shoulders as you relaxed. “My queen needs her throne,” he’d tease, fluffing the couch pillows and bringing you snacks when you were too tired to move.
Puffer
Chris still had his playful side, but now it was wrapped in a protective layer you’d never seen before. “I don’t care if they’re your coworkers. No one stresses you out, okay? You’ve got more important things to focus on,” he said one day, his tone leaving no room for argument.
His knack for handling your cravings was legendary. At any given moment, he could whip out a bag of chips, a chocolate bar, or even pickles, depending on what you wanted. “I brought options because, you know, I’m a man of foresight,” he said, grinning proudly.
When nausea hit hard, he was your rock. He held your hair back, rubbed your back, and whispered, “We’ve got this, babe. You’re literally a superhero. I’m just your sidekick, ready to punch morning sickness in the face.”
And when your belly started to show, his excitement became impossible to contain. “Look at that,” he said one night, resting his hand on your bump. “That’s all us. I mean, mostly you. But still, that’s our little peanut in there.”
Smii7y
Jaren was the picture of quiet support. While you navigated the physical and emotional changes of early pregnancy, he was there every step of the way. He’d spend hours researching, bringing you books and articles. “Apparently, prenatal yoga is a thing. Should we try it?” he asked, genuinely curious.
He had a way of making you feel calm, even on your toughest days. “It’s okay to feel overwhelmed,” he’d whisper, his arms wrapped around you. “You’re doing something incredible, and I’m here for you every step of the way.”
His most endearing moments, though, were the quiet ones. Like when he’d wake up early to make you breakfast or when he thought you were asleep, only to lean down and whisper to your belly. “Hey, it’s your dad. Just wanted to let you know we can’t wait to meet you.”
And when you teased him about crying during the first ultrasound, he didn’t deny it. “What? It was emotional!” he said, grinning through his blush.
Pezzy
Max’s excitement was infectious, but it came with a dose of lighthearted chaos. He was all in from the start, attending every doctor’s appointment and brainstorming baby names with a mischievous grin. “Maximillian Jr.? Come on, babe, that’s gold,” he joked, dodging a playful shove.
Despite his usual goofy nature, Max had his soft moments. After a particularly rough day, you found a handwritten note on your pillow. “For the best mom-to-be,” it read, accompanied by a playlist of calming songs he’d made just for you.
When the cravings hit, he treated it like a mission. Whether it was driving across town at midnight for the perfect milkshake or making three different dinners because you couldn’t decide, he didn’t hesitate. “I’m just saying, this kid’s gonna owe me big time,” he joked, his grin never fading.
Yumi
Blake’s boundless energy turned into a mission to keep you smiling. “Laughter is good for the baby,” he declared one day, cracking a series of increasingly terrible dad jokes. “Get ready, because I’ve got a million of these.”
But beneath the humor was a deeply sentimental side. He spent hours sketching doodles of what he thought the baby might look like. “I’m just saying, if they have my nose, we’re in trouble,” he teased, handing you a cartoonish drawing that made you laugh so hard you cried.
At night, his favorite thing was lying next to you, his hand on your belly. “Hey, kiddo,” he’d whisper, his voice soft and filled with wonder. “It’s your dad. Just wanted to say hi and let you know you’ve got the coolest parents ever.”
Droid
Jaime’s reaction was a mix of disbelief and sheer excitement. Even three months in, he was still adjusting, but his efforts to make your life easier didn’t go unnoticed. “Do you think the baby will like gaming? I mean, they have to, right?” he asked while holding up a tiny onesie with a gaming controller on it.
His attentiveness was unparalleled. “You’re not carrying groceries. You’re carrying a baby. Big difference,” he said one day, taking the bags out of your hands without hesitation.
And when the cravings hit? Jaime was on it. “Pizza with pickles? Weird. But hey, your wish is my command,” he said, handing you a plate with a wink.
EliLikesRice
Eli’s steady and calming presence became your anchor. “I’ll take care of everything,” he’d say, and he meant it. From cooking your favorite meals to taking over the chores, Eli made sure you didn’t have to lift a finger.
At night, he’d sit next to you on the couch, one hand resting on your belly as he whispered softly. “You’re already so loved, little one. I can’t wait to meet you.”
But even Eli had his vulnerable moments. One night, as you cuddled in bed, he admitted, “I’m scared. What if I mess up?” You squeezed his hand, your voice steady despite your own fears. “We’ll figure it out together,” you assured him, and the tension in his shoulders eased.
Blarg
Matt’s laid-back demeanor turned your pregnancy into a lighthearted adventure. “Do you think the baby will like ducks? Should we do a duck-themed nursery?” he asked, his face lighting up with excitement.
He surprised you with his resourcefulness, signing you both up for virtual parenting classes and showing up with stacks of baby books. “If I’m gonna be a dad, I’m gonna be the best dad,” he declared proudly, his confidence making you smile.
When the baby started kicking, he couldn’t stop talking to your belly. “Hey, it’s your dad. Just wanted to say hi and let you know you’ve got the coolest parents ever. Except maybe your mom. She’s the real MVP.”

hi hi again. been listening to warrior of the mind again - and i give this to you in a way to convince any one person to listen to any one song from the troy saga album. :)
use those persuasive skills to the test because i haven’t tried any of the other songs yet
Hi again Jay!!! 💚
First of all, you have excellent taste. Warrior of the Mind is a bop. In fact all of EPIC is a bop. But for tonight let’s stick to the Troy Saga, where the insanity began.
The Horse and the Infant 🐴
This musical opens IN THE LITERAL TROJAN HORSE. You don’t get more badass and in medias res than that. In only 1:33 minute, this song successfully establishes Odysseus’ key character traits: his terrifying intelligence is only matched by his undying love for his family. Then, in the remaining 2:20 minutes, it introduces us to the themes that drive the entirety of the story: the gods suck, and survival means getting your hands dirty.
Speaking of which…
Just a Man 😔
Possibly the most important song in the entire musical. At this point in the story, Odysseus is exhausted by the ravages of war, but still clings to his humanity for as long as he can, as desperately as he can. The very thing that makes him “just a man” is what will eventually turn him into a 🎶 MOOONSTEEERRR 🎶 : deep down, he would trade the world to see his son and wife.
Full Speed Ahead ⛵️
UNDERRATED. This song introduces us to Odysseus’ crew, namely his best friend Polites and his second-in-command Eurylochus, as well as the 600 men who will all die atrociously before the end of the story. And it just. Sounds so good. Argh.
Open Arms 🪷
Just 🥰 a chill song 🥰 nothing to see here 🥰 it’s not like this sweet summer child is going to die a painful death and haunt the narrative or anything 🥰 you can relax my friend 🥰
Warrior of the Mind 🦉
The one that got the most people into EPIC, I think, and for good reason. We love Athena, we love a bragging teenager, we love toxic friendships that will backfire later on in the story. Athena has an amazing arc of her own throughout EPIC, highlighting that even gods could stand to grow and better themselves.
And Jay. Jay. We haven’t even brushed Remember Them yet. We haven’t talked about Puppeteer and There Are Other Ways. We haven’t mentioned the upcoming Underworld Saga and its flagship song Monster. WE HAVEN’T TALKED ABOUT RUTHLESSNESS. WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT RUTHLESSNESS JAY

I-just-started-s4e3-thoughts:
Excuse me but Sazz and Charles share a rare blood type?!
Galifragilistic (which is how I shall be calling him). I didn't like him the first time we met him and I am starting to dislike him even more now. Get over yourself and take your teacher's advice. Even Loretta-in-the-trailer said that actors are investigators.
Why is Oliver constantly getting stuck with overbearing Greek people? (read: I miss Teddy.)
Big wow to the killer for leaving the bullet shell behind. The easiest thing to clean up from your crime scene.
Yes, please, Detective Williams in cahoots with the trio is what was needed. Now, she's obviously somewhat ticked off that she's being shut off from investigating a murder on her turf, but also she totally likes the trio.
I'm so pleased to see Williams develop as a character, too. She goes from a very serious workaholic no-nonsense badass to fresh mama badass, who unashamedly loves the theatre enough to leave her interrogations and cheer for Charles (as seen in the Pickwick Triplets music video), to openly concerned helpful mama bear to her podcast triplets. This show is just brilliant, letting all its side characters shine and have their own stories.
Let's just let her do her little cop monologue, she's earned it.
No, it's suspicious because supposed-man-in-Portugal-and-not-in-Spain left a live piglet in his bathroom and tried to get into the apartment while Olimabel was in there.
So if Prof. Dudenoff—which is a hell of a suspicious name and probably means something significant—is supposedly in Portugal and the Oh Hell gang get their toilet ham from Portugal, do they just call the apartment next door Portugal and make ham there?
It's very possible that no one exactly hates Charles enough to kill him, maybe his death would just benefit them in some other way. Although they already did that with Bunny and why should the writers repeat themselves, so I remain unconvinced.
The set chairs on the roof were a nice touch.
Okay, but Williams is married with a kid. And the best thing about Galifragilistic is the Mary-Poppins-inspired nickname that Oliver gave him. I did like her calling him a baklava, but that's it. Calm down, detective.
Even if Levy is just being tactically polite to Charles, which is yet to be proven, it still makes him the kindest and most likable of the Hollywood trio. It's about time someone was nice to Charles without turning every compliment into a joke at his expense.
They're gonna go with Levy's plan, right?
Mabel: "Mabel works alone." Also Mabel: *always works with her guys*
I couldn't be more disinterested in Galifragilistic and his rude indifference towards his job and Oliver. I mean, Oliver is so fun and extravagant, anyone would be lucky to play him and should enjoy every second they could spend getting to know him.
I think it's so sweet that Oliver hung up his Death Rattle Dazzle poster in the spot where he used to have his Splash poster. I wonder which show he considers his biggest flop now: Splash or the original Death Rattle (it's obviously not Death Rattle Dazzle which was a hit and no one can convince me otherwise).
I agree with Oliver about the sweater. Where did Howard get that sad sweater? His last one slayed.
Looks like Howard is winning at spontaneous pet adopting this season. Oliver has dropped behind with his Mrs. Gambolini—who I still insist is around although there was no mention of her throughout season 3.
Gloria Swinom? If I may, I would just like to add Tilda Swineton to the pun-name list.
At least Howard is on my side. That little unimpressed sassy chuckle was fabulous.
This guy needs a lot of work. I will not hear one word against Lansbury.
Coming to theatres near you: The Misguided Adventures of Criminally Obscure Doctor Salazar Savage.
I take it back, the Olifragilistic bonding can be quite sweet, too. The 90s Hallmark movie vibes are strong in this one.
Wohoo! Uma's back and kicking!
Okay, so what's up with the theme song from Perfect Strangers?
The roller-coaster that this scene took me on, I tell you. Howard is precious, a little misguided but fiercely loyal, I love it. But it has been a while since I've been so pissed at someone on the screen as I was just now at Galifragilistic. Sure, yeah, his last degrading speech and the little slap was basic Oliver behaviour with an added touch of oblivious viciousness, so he has learned a little something during his day with Oliver after all, but that cruelty was totally uncalled for and I can't believe he just touched Oliver like that. Hands off my pocket-sized baby Willy Wonka!
The funniest part of this episode: Charles and Vince's hug, peak comedy that.
So that picture with the Oh Hell gang and a markered-off-faced pig lady—nice clue, probably an interesting lead, also probably not the killer, but that's all I'm saying about that. Just wanted to say that while I know we're 100% not doing that again, those dungarees and what look like plaits and the connection to pigs are giving Loretta-but-back-in-Mamma-Mia!.
Oh my God. It was less than five seconds between me thinking, "Hmm, I could see Mabel living in a place like this and starting to build it into her own space, after all of this is over and done with. Maybe exactly this place. She could see her guys from her window every day," and Mabel googling squatters' rights.
What is happening, Charles, is some Olimabel bonding time between Mabel-who-is-not-into-this-musical-shit and Oliver who deserves to have his dad moments with Mabel, too.
I'm impressed by how quickly they recognized the number as a frequency. They really are on fire this season. There was a time when they based half of their case on whether the word was "Savage" or "sandwich".
Hey, didn't I say Sazz had been snooping around on her ham radio? So she spoke to the pig lady with the accent.
