Detective Conan episode 129 is hands down my favorite episode in the show, primarily because of her:
Ai Haibara/Shiho Miyano. Her introduction was done extremely well. When she's first introduced as the new transfer student, she seems innocent enough, just a bit shy. You don't really get the sense that something is off about her until the Detective Boys get a case from one of their classmates asking them to help find his older brother, who went missing recently. As they search the boy's house, Haibara watches Conan as he investigates, almost as if he was an interesting test subject to look at. Their classmate notices that she's staring at something, and she nods her head in Conan's direction. He looks at Conan and then back at Haibara, only to find a rather creepy smirk on her face. Finding nothing at the house, they decide to look elsewhere. After a while, Conan ditches them to investigate on his own, only to be shocked when they eventually find him. When he asks them how did they know where he was, they tell him that Haibara figured out where he would be. At this point in the episode, you're thinking "either she's a really smart 7 year old kid, or she's the same as Conan and was given the same drug/poison that shrank him". Only to find out much later that it's the latter, but with a twist. They eventually find the boy's brother, who was kidnapped by people involved in a counterfeit money scheme, who wanted him to paint fake bills for them. When the leader intends to shoot at them, Haibara grabs the gun from her and shoots, just barely missing the woman (and it looked as if she missed on purpose).
"There is definitely more than meets the eye with this girl" is what I thought the first time I saw this episode. Until she starts crying because inspector Megure yelled at her for shooting the gun because it was dangerous.
As Conan walks her home, she's still crying, so it really DOES seem like she's a normal girl after all....until Conan begins to leave and she says this:
Turns out that she's not a normal little girl after all, but is actually a member of the black organization, as well as the person who created the drug that shrank Shinichi. She reveals that she also knows exactly who "Conan" really is: Shinichi Kudo. Ai tells him that she may or may not have killed Professor Agasa, and that Conan should check to see if she's telling the truth or not. He quickly runs to the professor's house, only to see that the old man in question is fine. Ai eventually walks in the door and Agasa greets her as if it's just another day and nothing is out of the ordinary. Ai tells them both her backstory: she rebelled against the organization after one of the members killed her sister, and her punishment was death. So she figured that if she was going to die anyway, it might as well be because of her own poison. What she wasn't expecting, however, was for the poison to shrink her. She managed to escape the room she was confined in by going into a garbage chute, and slowly made her way to Shinichi's house, thinking that he would be able to help her since he was in the same predicament that she was now in. Conan, beyond angry at this point because those guys that they caught earlier weren't from the organization like he thought they were, and the fact that he he's face to face with the creator of the poison that shrank him, who also led him to believe that she killed Agasa, someone he's known since he was a toddler, only to find out that she tricked him, lashes out at her. All of the anger and frustration that he felt about his situation finally burst out of him.
She then says that she had no choice in the matter of the development of that drug, and that she never intended for it to be a poison in the first place (which is a very interesting detail that Gosho has yet to explain. I wonder what she means by that?) which pissed Conan off even more, but Agasa managed to calm him down. He demands to go to the place where she created the drug out, this way they can retrieve the data of the drug so that he can be returned to normal, only for Ai to tell him that there's "no point" and show him and Agasa a newspaper that talks about a fire that burned down a pharmaceutical company, and says that even if they go there, nothing would be left. She then remembers that one time, her sister had sent her some floppy disks with pictures of a trip she went on. Ai claims to have looked at them a d sent them right back to her sister, only to discover sometime later that the floppy disk with the drug's data was nowhere to be found. Meaning that she had sent that particular floppy disk to her sister without realizing it. She says that the floppy disks actually belonged to her sister's university professor, Hirota Masami, who they then go to visit to get the floppy disk back. They go his house only to find that he had been murdered. Conan is able to solve the case, and the culprit, a former student of the professor, is arrested and charged with his murder. As they're getting ready to leave, Ai stops them by asking Conan why couldn't he save her sister. He doesn't know what she's talking at first, until she says that the name "Hirota Masami" was the fake name that her sister, Akemi Miyano, used during that bank heist that Conan found himself involved in.
This part was something that I never expected to see: Conan being confronted by a victim's family member on a case that he worked on, someone who knows his real identity. Ai tearfully says that with all of his deductive reasoning he should have been able to see right through her sister's case and realize what was actually going on. She drops to her knees and grabs Conan's shirt, tearfully asking "Why?" before she just completely breaks down in tears.
This scene, along with the soundtrack that was playing during it, is probably my second favorite part of the episode, no matter how sad and heartbreaking it is. Hearing her crying her heart out like that just got to me, as well as Conan saying this:
A few weeks go by and they managed to get the floppy disk containing the drugs data after the police confirmed that they didn't need it as evidence. Ai puts it into the computer at the professor's house, and begins looking through it as she says that it contains data on more than just the drug: it has information about the organization members as well. Conan is pleased because this means that he's one step closer to getting his real body back, as well as taking down the organization. To their utter shock, however, the data begins to delete itself. Ai then says that there was a virus installed in that floppy disk to delete all of the data in it if it was accessed in a computer that wasn't from the organization. Since all of the data is now lost, Ai says that she'll be there for a while since she now has to do everything from scratch. She says to Conan that she looks forward to working with him, who looks at her with mild anger. And thus the most unlikely partnership in the series was born.

Do you think Shinichi wanted to be the one who almost kissed KID? I'm imagining him having his body back and flirting with KID as revenge for his friend and trying to figure out how much of his reactions are acting as part of the disguise. I want him to find out that KID/Kuroba Kaito hasn't had his first kiss yet and decide that he will be the one to give it to him. I feel like most people assume Kaito is the more relationship experienced one but considering ShinRan's development post-canon that will probably be Shinichi, he didn't have to worry about consent issues or DNA or potentially getting a loved one framed as an accomplice - which Kaito has to consider in and out of disguises.
Lmao, Kaito must be so bitter, imagine your rival got the girl and you've been in the friendzone for 37 years. That's hard. (Yes, I'm counting Robot Kaito's confession. Since Aoko and her entire class basically think it was him, it counts for me).
_________________ The first thing that came to my mind when you said that was this scenario:
"Let me see if I understand you, Kudo." Haibara looks at him trying not to show her disapproval for the tremendous stupidity she just heard from him. "The first thing you want to do now that you got your body back is go kissing with KID."
She wouldn't judge him for that, she just thinks the reason he uses to justify himself is… so dumb.
"I'm doing it because he almost kissed Hattori, and you know, I have to protect my best friend's dignity."
"You sound like a person desperate for the attention of the one you love."
"I don't love him, and I'm not desperate!"
"But you want to kiss him, and you just confirmed that you've been thinking about this for a while." Haibara looks at him unimpressed. She's judging him.
"I'm doing it for Hattori, he's my brother from another mother and all that…!"
"You say that, but all you think about is kissing KID."
"Don't say it like that! I don't-!"
"Like I said, so desperate." ___________
I had thought of a conversation between the two of them, talking about their first kiss:
Shinichi: My first kiss was with a random guy, he mistook me for Ran, I hated it.
KID: What bad luck for that, I thought you were going to tell me that you had your first kiss with Miss Mouri at 13 or something.
Shinichi: I wasn't so lucky, what about you? Have you had your first kiss yet?
KID: Do you doubt that?
Shinichi: I'm just saying that it's hard to be sure with you, you're too ambiguous, I can't say that I'd be surprised if it's not the case, but I can also imagine it.
KID: To be honest… it depends.
Shinichi: Your answer is "It depends"? See? So ambiguous. "Depends" on what anyway?
KID: It depends on what you consider a kiss.
KID: What is a kiss to you?
Shinichi: I'm sure I'm missing a lot of things in the middle of this question, but if I had to answer, isn't it supposed to be just lip contact?
KID: And if there's no consent would you still call it a kiss?
Shinichi: Did you steal a kiss from someone?
KID: Not exactly.
Shinichi: You're so lazy about it! Just tell me what happened!
KID: Well, I once did cpr on a person I liked. Although at the time I still didn't like him, and I definitely didn't think about kissing him, otherwise "Damn, I have to do something or she'll choke!"
Shinichi: Well, that's not a kiss.
KID: But you said a kiss was lip contact, our lips touched, it would be a kiss right?
Shinichi: Why does even a kiss have to be complicated with you?
KID: I'd like to know too.
Shinichi: I guess we can just leave it at "it depends." __________________
In movie 10, there is a scene where Conan falls into the water, then wakes up in Agasa's car and Hattori tells him that "Hakuba" pulled him out of the water. It is later revealed that "Hakuba" was actually KID.
I've been thinking ever since I saw it "Did KID perform CPR on Shinichi?" since he spent two hours unconscious, since there is nothing to confirm or deny it, I assume that it did happen.
I just like the idea of Shinichi being Kaito's first kiss, although yes, I would prefer it to be Shinichi, but I wanted to share this thought.

Next door, if you need me
Akai Shuichi x fem!reader Words: 1.8K Warnings: Maybe a bit OOC? I don't know
You looked sceptically over at the professor. "Are you sure about this? You want me to do this?" He laughed and patted you on the shoulder, hoping to calm your nerves. "I really can't go right now, I need to observe my experiment."
"And Ai-chan-"
"-isn't here," Agasa interrupted you, vigorously pushing the pot into your hand. "Please, do this for me. Okiya-san is terribly ill and I'd be a horrible neighbour if I didn't check on him."
You looked down at the pot in your hands in despair. "But I can't do that! I can't talk to strangers! You know that very well." Agasa, however, just shook his head, put his hands on your shoulders and pushed you out of his door.
"It'll do you good, believe me. You'll thank me!" Appalled, you wheeled round to protest, but the professor slammed the door in your face, leaving you standing outside his door with a pot of stew.
With a heavy sigh, you turned round and looked over to the house next to the professor's. The Kudo family used to live there, but you hadn't seen them for some time.
Instead, as Agasa had told you, a temporary resident had apparently moved in, a certain Okiya Subaru.
You didn't know who the man was, nor had you ever seen him, but it seemed to be the professor's plan to introduce you to each other.
You had actually only gone over to Agasa to make sure that the old man hadn't blown himself up yet, but he had promptly involved you in a conversation about the new neighbour, who seemed to be seriously ill, handed you the keys and asked you to look after this Okiya. And obviously your protests had not been successful.
Scowling, you stood in front of the huge entrance and wondered if you could just ring the bell, leave the stew in front of the door and run away, but you had the feeling you were being watched.
You quickly turned your head to the side to look towards Agasa's house, only to catch a curtain being pulled back out of the corner of your eye. You snorted. Coward.
You glanced back at the huge mansion in front of you, trying to swallow the lump in your throat and cheer yourself up at the same time. "What's the worst that could happen," you muttered quietly, taking a deep breath. "You just ring the bell, hand the guy his stew and leave. Simple as that." You exhaled. "You can do this. I can manage that. I can do this. I can do this."
You squinted your eyes as hard as you could and pressed the bell.
You silently prayed that he would simply open the door. Otherwise you would have to use the key Agasa had given you and enter the house and that really wasn't very high on the list of things you would like to do.
Although it wasn't one, it really would have seemed to you like a break-in, so you held still, hoping he wasn't too ill to get up.
After two minutes, when no one had opened the door, you began to rummage for your keys with shaky hands, when all at once the door swung aside and the occupant emerged.
Okiya was taller than you had expected and slim, but not gawky. His hair was an unusually light brown or dark blonde and the glasses on his face had rounded lenses that matched the shape of his mask. "Yes?"
You realised you were staring and felt the heat rising in your face. "Um… I… Are you Okyia-san?" He tilted his head, and although you couldn't see it because of the mask, you were pretty sure he was smiling. "That's me, how can I help?"
Somewhat awkwardly and embarrassed, you lifted the pot in your hand. "Erm, the professor sent me to help you recover faster. He would have come himself, but he has to keep his … er eye on his experiment. That's why I'm here, so … um … here."
You held the pot out to him, but he didn't seem to bother taking it. Instead, he bowed his head slightly and opened the door a little wider. "Thank you. Would you mind bringing the pot inside? I'm not too ill to stand, but I'd hate to see the contents of the pot end up on the floor just because I've lost my strength."
You were sure you were bright red by now. "Sure. Gladly." Your voice was no more than a soft squeak, but you swallowed your doubts and entered the house after Okiya stepped aside to let you in. "I don't think I caught your name," he said as he ushered you down the corridor, a little slower than he probably usually walked, and by now at the latest you must have been red in the face as shame spread through you and you hurried to say your name.
He tilted his head thoughtfully before he seemed to smile again, judging by the laugh lines around his eyes. "A beautiful name."
Under no circumstances did you expect a compliment when you entered the kitchen, causing the pot to slip out of your hands in shock. However, as you had been about to put it down on the table anyway, it wasn't damaged and the contents didn't spill over the edge, but a loud clatter echoed through the room, making you wince.
"Sorry," you mumbled and, slightly ashamed, pushed the pot back onto the cooker, only to realise that the contents had already cooled down. You took a deep breath, silently cursing the professor, before turning with a small smile to Okiya, who was watching you from the doorway.
"The stew seems to have gone cold. If you want to eat it now, I can warm it up quickly." Slowly, he pushed himself away from the doorframe and stepped towards you, only to stop less than half a metre in front of you and look down at you. "I'm sure you have better things to do."
You hunched your shoulders and looked anywhere but at his face, let alone his eyes. "It's really no trouble now, and I thought, while I'm here… Unless you want me to leave?"
You looked up at him questioningly and once again he seemed to smile under the mask. "It would be a pleasure if you would keep me company. However, I don't want you to catch anything."
Feeling the heat rising in your face again, you turned to the cooker and switched it on. "That's really no trouble at all. Besides, the house is pretty big and you must have a lot to do, so I can at least relieve a sick person of this small task."
Okiya hummed softly and left the room, only to return a few moments later with two steaming teacups. "I know you'll only be here for a short time and it's not the best situation to keep you company in my circumstances, but I don't want to be a bad host."
He sat down at the kitchen table and indicated the seat opposite him. "Please, sit down." For the first time since the professor had thrown you out of his house, a real, broad smile crept onto your face and after a quick glance at the stew, you gladly accepted his invitation.
In the end, the visit, which you had thought would last a maximum of five minutes, lasted almost two hours. You had a relaxed and lively conversation with Okiya and were delighted to realise that he was an excellent conversationalist who had something to contribute on almost every topic.
Admittedly, he had been a little taciturn at first, but just like you, he seemed to have warmed up over time. After the tea was finished and both he and you had eaten the stew after he had insisted, surprisingly it had been really edible, you had hesitated to leave.
Actually, you had already overstayed your welcome, but Okiya didn't seem to mind your presence, as his only concern had been to infect you. After you had assured him that you would be fine, he had asked you to play a game of chess and although this was not exactly your strongest area, you had agreed.
He had won hands down, but it seemed to you that he had helped you sweep one of his pieces off the board more than once, with a smile on his face. You didn't care, because you'd still had fun.
However, it was now late and you still had to go to an event at work and, in order not to go there in the dark, a colleague would take you home, you had to leave. Okiya had offered to drive you, but you had declined. He was ill and the only place he belonged was his bed.
"Actually, you shouldn't have stayed out of bed so long because of me," you scolded quietly, but it seemed to amuse him more than anything else. "It was more interesting this way." You snorted, but glanced to the side as you put your shoes on so he wouldn't see your red face. "I have to go now. It was nice to make your acquaintance."
Okiya inclined his head. "Likewise." You smiled tightly and turned away before you could think of something to say. "And Okiya-san?"
He opened the door again, which he had already started to close, to look at you curiously. "If there's a problem or something…" Once again, you didn't look at him, but focussed on a pebble in front of your feet. "I'll be next door if you need me."
Okiya pulled the mask down slightly to smile at you before pushing it back up. "I'll keep that in mind." With that, he closed the door. You looked at the door for a few moments before a smile spread across your lips. You gave the building one last glance before turning away and walking down the street with a light bounce in your step.
~~*~~
Shuichi watched from the window as she walked down the street, clearly with more vigour and joy than when she had walked up to the house, and smiled slightly to himself.
Instantly, he whisked it from his own lips and stepped away from the window pane. Fool, he scolded himself. You can't allow yourself, in your position, to care about people.
On somewhat shaky legs, something else that bothered him, he walked back into the kitchen to tidy up, he had insisted on doing it alone, when his gaze fell on the kitchen table and his frown softened. Their cups were still there, facing each other, the handles almost touching and once again a small, barely noticeable smile crept onto his lips as he stepped up and took her cup in his hand.
It was still warm.
Shuichi's gaze flitted to his own cup and he picked it up as well, holding it against her cup. It looked right to see the two of them next to each other.
Lost in thought, he walked over to the sink and put the cups in, but hesitated before opening the tap and a momentary thought occurred to him. He smiled.
Because maybe, just maybe, he could allow himself to care after all.

Shinichi's friendship with Hattori Heiji is SO important to me.
Like, up until now in the manga we see him around Ran, who's his best friend, but... she's also the one he has a major crush on, and she's a girl, and the series is still early on so teenaged boys, no matter how nice, are kinda sexist. Other than Ran there's Sonoko, who's more Ran's friend than his, and his teammates in the soccer club. There's also Agasa.
Except... as said, Ran's his crush, Sonoko isn't his friend (they don't exactly get along much at first), his teammates in soccer only really play sports with him, and Agasa is much older.
Then he shrinks, and he has... well, he so far only has Agasa he's telling the truth to. And he has the Detective Boys in school, but they're little kids he's babysitting almost. His relationship with Ran is strained by lies and how she's treating him as a kid (and she has to), and he's unable to talk to anyone he knew from high school.
Enter Hattori Heiji, who is not only his own age, but someone who can keep up with his reasoning as he's coming up with things - not just after he's started to explain it all. And when he becomes someone In On The Secret... as much as we make fun of him for messing up with "Ku- Conan" all the time, I see it as kinda important, in a good way, too - because it proves that at no point does Hattori looks at him and sees "Conan" first before he sees Kudo Shinichi.
To Hattori, he is always Kudo Shinichi.
He respects him fully when he's shaped like a child, and Shinichi knows that Hattori will continue to treat him the same once he's returned to his normal body, too.

IT'S TIME! FIST OF BLUE SAPPHIRE! THE NUMBER ONE KAISHIN MOVIE!
How interesting though, that this movie is set after Ran and Shinichi are officially dating but they went for KaiShin instead with ShinRan sprinkled in from time to time. I guess they were like "you had your cheek kiss, let the gays have something" and we appreciate them for doing so!
And that card is how poor Kaito is dragged into this sinster plot T-T
I appreciate the movie actually understanding Ai's character better than Gosho does. This should have been her response when Shinichi had pestered her for the antidote for the school trip.
I still don't know why Yuusaku hasn't used his "many" connections to help his son get a passport but Kaito's solution worked too. And is a lot gayer.
Kaito really likes to dress up as cute girls XD We stan a gender non-conforming thief.
We don't acknowledge enough how gay Kaito's "I've been waiting a long time for you," is. We know honey. The boy still believes that he's straight but he'll get there.
Did Kaito strip Shinichi to put all that tan on him? I just need to know. Because that is also very gay of him (also creepy but he was only did it because he needed Shinichi's help and he knows that Conan can't be in Singapore so he's just being a good future husband protecting his identity).
Shinichi always sees Kaito as so handsome.
The second best part of this movie beside the Kaishin? We get really cute Makosono.
It's funny that Sonoko says "they have good vibes between them" but we know that Ran is already aware that this is Kaito and she's acting to catch him off guard. She's a better actor than Shinichi and now I believe that she's always acting when it comes to Shinichi.
Kaito and Shinichi are already being gay with one another. Come on guys, get a room. Shinichi has just been kidnapped and he does not give a shit because it was his husband that did so.
Agasa totally made that suitcase. Jii definitely had him make it. What I'm saying is that Agasa is a bro and wanted Shinichi to have a date with his boyfriend.
Shinichi and his love for Sherlock Holmes T-T
Ran is very pretty in this dress by the way. It's a shame that her wife isn't here. My only complaint about this movie is that there is no Sera even though she definitely should have been.
This movie shows us why KaiShin are such a great couple with one another. There's no tension between them, they're always on the same wavelength and it's amazing.
Makoto showing us why he's an amazing boyfriend and why he and Sonoko are so great together!
Sonoko is very gorgeous in this movie.
I love how he panics. When Shinichi panics he drops all pretense but with Kaito, he keeps his grin on his face, probably because of how he's trained his poker face but all it does is make him look manic XD
Kaito's love for sweets is being seen too T-T
Sonoko is the most supportive girlfriend.
It can't be a double date Sonoko with Ran, Ran's wife isn't here sadly. But you can have a double date with KaiShin.
Ran: This is definitely not Shinichi. He is not a smooth talker at all. And he would not interact with my dad that way.
This movie actually also shows us Ran's intelligence, though it's only revealed at the end. What I'm going with this is that SHE. SHOULD. KNOW.
One complaint, again. But how come Makoto gets to have muscles. It's not very apparent but they're there. Ran should get them too.
We love a self-confident Kaito. And Shinichi being exasperated at his husband for being so.
The jealousy Makoto has towards KID is actually one of the few in the series that I don't mind because Sonoko is very open about how she is attracted to KID (though she has assured Makoto her heart is his and even here she makes sure he knows that).
You know Leon saying Kaito's hands belong to that of a magician is also something Ran uses as confirmation that this isn't Shinichi.
You know Kaito is annoyed because it's Shinichi that deserves all the praise that Kogoro gets.
We know that Ran knows this is Kaito, so I'm willing to be she also knows that Arthur is actually Conan and that's why she's okay with this small child who is all alone following them around. Let her be the intelligent women that she is.
Kaito, my smart boy.
AND HIS FIRST HEIST STARTS.
HE'S SO ACROBATIC. HE'S INCREDIBLE. Although, it's because he's so acrobatic that I find it hard to believe his hands are "supple" like it's said. Gymnasts are prone to calluses on their hands due to it. I guess the excuse is that Kaito wears gloves, but that doesn't actually stop them from forming.
MY POOR BABY GOT TASED. AND THEN ALMOST DROWNED. This is the Kaito goes through it movie.
Leon: I am one step ahead.
Shinichi: Hold my beer.
KAITO JUST SHOOTING THE GUY WHO GETS IN THE WAY IS SO FUNNY. He knows who the danger is.
Kaito your adrenaline junkie is showing.
He's so goddamn pleased that Shinichi helped him.
Shinichi: Got to save my idiot husband.
He looks so good in this movie.
And Shinichi just casually waiting for his husband to pick him up is so goddamn cute of him T-T THIS MOVIE IS SO GOOD T-T
They're so adorable, flying over the city while discussing a case. It shows how much trust they have in each other.
And there's the obligatory Shinichi and Ran. I can't even be made about it because I'm being fed so well.
Shinichi is so flustered that Kaito is actually interested in why he chose his name. He's not used to it.
AND HE'S SO CONCERNED FOR KAITO.
Someone pointed out that Kaito doesn't hold his hand over his heart, he usually holds it more to the left. So there is a reason he does so for Shinichi and that reason is gay, gay, homosexual gay.
Lol I just noticed he stole Shinichi's shoes and put him in sandles.
And the acting award goes to Ran! She's doing all of this just to catch out KID and we love her for it!
In fact, she knowing that this is Kaito but chosing not revealing that it is actually gives support that she to my idea that she knows Arthur is Conan and that there must be some way he brought Conan here that was illegal so the only way he can actually get him back home is to let Kaito be arrested in Japan. In this essay I will-
ANOTHER GREAT THING ABOUT THIS MOVIE. Ran is showing off how much she enjoys martial arts too.
The distance Ran put between herself and Kaito is so interesting (and Sonoko doesn't even notice, suggesting she'd do the same for the actual Shinichi).
I'm assuming that Kaito raided Shinichi's wardrobe because Shinichi likes pink shirts with white. He wore it in London and now Kaito is wearing pink and white in Singapore.
I love Kaito's disgrunted look in the background when Kogoro says he won't get the belt. Those are fighting words.
Awww, Shinichi looking back at Kaito was adorable. He's curious but also concerned about his husband as he knows he's being led into traps.
MAKOTO T-T DON'T LISTEN TO HIM.
TIME FOR CUTE MAKOSONO. And Ran is a bro letting Sonoko have some alone time with Makoto, using Kaito as an excuse (she also wants to investigate).
We love Ran.
KAITO OUR GENDER NON-CONFORMING QUEEN. I love how he flirts with the inspector to return his phone too. My queer king. (Yes he is a king and a queen).
Kaito, did you really need to drop your skirt first? Or have you always wanted to do that.
I like to believe that Kaito only noticed the letters because he's learnt a lot from his detective boyfriend.
ALSO ANOTHER THING A PERSON NOTICED THAT WASN'T ME. This time around, Kaito included a propellor on his handglider. There was another Kaishin movie where his detective boyfriend complained about having to land and Kaito telling him they had no choice as it's not like he has a propellor on his glider. Me thinks, he doth use one now due to that.
MY DEAR KAITO
This is why we don't like police. They shoot indiscriminately.
What's with this face Shinichi. Disappointed? Or concerned? Both. He can't have his husband framed.
Nah, definitely concerned.
MY POOR BABY.
I adore the way Sonoko looks at Makoto.
She adores him so much.
And Makoto adores her and just wants to do everything in his power to keep her safe T-T Him catching the knife between his fingers was so cool of him.
SONOKO.
She's going through it too. She and KID can bond over their suffering.
KAITO THE JANITOR T-T Keeping up the act even though he's been injured himself and is in pain.
MY POOR BABY CAN'T EVEN GET PROPER TREATMENT. SHINICHI GO BANDAGE UP YOUR BOYFRIEND.
He's so calm about Shinichi seeing him as his true self too.
Hehe, half naked.
NO ONE SPEAKS ABOUT HOW GREAT THIS MOMENT IS. KAITO GIVES EVERYTHING BACK TO SHINICHI, ASKING FOR HIS FULL SUPPORT TO SOLVE THE MURDER BECAUSE THATS HOW MUCH HE TRUSTS HIM. AND SHINICHI DOES SO. HE DOES WHAT KAITO ASKS.
Shinichi does not need a room with two beds. So, what I'm saying is that they shared a bed. And Shinichi is the blanket hog while Kaito sleeps with barely any and snores. Actually, with how wrapped up Shinichi is and how there is so little on Kaito but the bedding is going in the direction of Shinichi, I think we can confirm this is a double bed they are sharing, as well as a blanket. Noting this down.
OOF. He just lets Rishi fall to the hard floor. Shinichi you are a cruel man but I can excuse you because you want to solve this case before your husband is hurt any more.
MAKOTO AND SONOKO ARE SO CUTE IN THIS MOVIE.
We don't get to see Sonoko and Makoto as casual as they're being so it's nice to see them interact.
TIME FOR KAITO'S COMEBACK.
Awwww, this isn't what Sonoko wants Makoto T-T She wants you to be at your happiest and she knows that is fighting against those who are strong. She doesn't want to be a burden to you.
ALSO CAN WE TALK ABOUT SONOKO'S RESPONSE TO FEELING LIED TO! IT'S WHAT WE'VE WANTED WITH RAN AND MORE. SHE IS UPSET MAKOTO ISN'T BEING HONEST WITH HER AND WON'T LET HIM TRY AND LIE TO HER. QUEEN BEHAVIOUR.
I know what you are Kaito.
RAN JUST DOESN'T CARE SHINICHI IS SCREAMING. She totally knows that Conan is Arthur (and that Shinichi is Conan) and is letting him tell of his boyfriend.
Kaito gets Shinichi down to a tee, even to how he abandons Ran T-T
TIME FOR SHINICHI AND KAITO TO BE GAY MASTERMINDS WHO SOLVE THE CASE TOGETHER. The gay part is very important to it.
Look at these babies being dramatic together as they sum up the case so far to try and solve it.
This is how playful teasing is done by the way. Neither of them think less of the other so the teasing is just that, something that neither of them mean. This can't be done between Ran and Shinichi because we know he actually views her that way.
KAITO BOUGHT SHINICHI A SNACK AND IT'S SO CUTE. HE'S NOT EVEN BOTHERED BY HIM REVEALING THE TRICK, JUST CURIOUS HOW HE KNEW IT WAS COCONUT WATER.
I love Kaito using casual magic tricks with Shinichi too. It's just so cute and so Kaito.
Shinichi: Haibara, can you figure out who this is? KID took it
Ai: WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU WITH KID?!
Shinichi: ...I'll explain later
Ai, already used to Shinichi at this point: Fine, don't be stupid.
It's kind of funny that Leon says he'll build a new city and he's not wrong because Shinichi and Kaito do blow it up for him.
Kogoro: Did I just get mugged?
LMAO Ai knows Shinichi so goddamn well. It's why they make great partners.
Kaito is having fun playing detective, isn't he.
Shinichi: My idiot husband fell right into the trap
Kaito: As if you haven't fallen for things like this too
And Rishi fell into Shinichi's trap.
Poor Sonokoa and Makoto.
LOL Kaito be careful of your detective. You don't want him falling off your shoulders.
SHINICHI AND KAITO DOUBLE TEAM.
LMAO Shinichi shading both Rishi and Leon. He's the king at making you feel stupid XD
Kaito: Actually the detective is closer than you think.
TIME FOR THE CLIMAX.
MAKOTO T-T He'll protect Sonoko with his life.
RAN. YES. SHE GETS TO BE INCREDIBLE. ANOTHER SCORE FOR THIS MOVIE.
And it's Shinichi who gets to be the damsel in distress who is saved by his man T-T As we love!
AND IT'S TIME FOR SHINICHI'S BEST PLAN TO DATE. HE ASKS KAITO TO HELP HIM BLOW UP A HOTEL.
I WANT TO SPEAK ABOUT HOW KAITO IS CARRING AROUND AND PROTECTING HIS LOVE WHILE MAKOTO IS DOING THE SAME. CAN I?
Kaito is one hell of a shot. And he has no ascended to the god of fighting as that was said to be the only thing to make the bracelet fall off.
Obligatory Shinichi saving Ran where it wasn't really needed but I'll allow it because we've been fed so much AND-
She gets the last move. So it's okay.
And Kaito can't forget his purpose. He is a jewel thief after all. And it makes a good reason to get people to shoot at him.
Kaito loves to make people bungee jump. He has to make them into extreme sport lovers too.
Oooh. What do you do two do in the bedroom. Makoto is very good at tying knots I see.
TIME FOR THIS SHIP TO MOVE. Kaito and Shinichi are so insane for this.
Makoto fighting with Sonoko on his back is also insane.
I JUST REALISED HE WAS HOLDING HER HAND! I ADORE THEM.
Sorry, that's just really funny.
Shinichi and Kaito did this. I fucking love them.
And Kaito has fun having the last word. King.
Sonoko has a fringe? I just thought it was as long as her bangs.
ADORABLE!
Shinichi got to say the line. Can't have a movie without it.
RAN IS THE MVP OF THIS MOVIE AND THIS IS WHY. SHE IS AN AMAZING ACTRESS AND PUTS SHINICHI TO SHAME.
What a warm welcome home for Kaito.
Again, it's not cute for Shinichi to insult Ran because he means it. Also she doesn't KNOW YOU FUCKING ASS.
Well. We'll ignore that last moment.

I think the entirety of Desperate Revival has been ruined for me just knowing that Yukiko and Yuusaku didn't come to see Shinichi when he nearly died. Like not even Yukiko in disguise as Conan's mom. They just didn't care. And you can't tell me they didn't know, because Agasa absolutely would've told them.
I've been thinking about this a lot.
Like yeah, Toichi is the worst parent in the DCMK universe, but Yuusaku and Yukiko aren't far behind. Do I like them as characters? Yes. Being good characters doesn't make them good parents.
Anyway it's a good thing Rei and Akai adopted Conan and he has pseudo-parents/big brothers who care about him now. (They're not exactly the most stable people and have no business adopting a child together or separately, but at least they care about him.)
(And don't even get me started on kidnapping their own (already traumatized) son and scaring the shit out of him just to get a point across. That's a whole different issues, but still falls under shitty parenting.)

ShinRan common complaints beyond the Conan secret debunked.
Ran uses her karate on Shinichi, he knows how to evade it because she taught him as a way to protect herself (like Kogorou teaching Eri Judo) and he grew up with her as she was learning - maybe I've seen too many Shounen anime where fighting/martial arts is a focus but this is a sign of how well he knows her and she him, she's not out to harm him but she doesn't need to hold back either. It's like how Shinichi's shoes/footballs break stuff but don't risk killing people.
Shinichi taking advantage of Ran, is always encouraged as she can set her own boundaries and never wants to come between him and a case even when he's too distracted by her/would rather not.
The phone calls only are circumstances plus needed separation between 'Shinichi x Ran' and 'Conan-kun & Ran-nee-chan' as he'd never ask her to love a little brother much younger than her as a boyfriend but Conan is mostly a fake persona brought on by necessity that he often breaks when Ran is involved. I somewhat like the possibility of Shinichi learning to see his long-time crush as a sisterly figure (found family for the win! different types of love but same amount and level of importance) but Gosho's writing isn't going in that direction and it's not so bad - Shinichi stays by Ran's side whatever way he can because she's his anchor in his dark world of murderers. Long-distance relationships of emails/calls and gifts are great too, to each their own, if it works for them it works.
Ran does in fact listen to Shinichi's interests, and him to hers as evidenced by their knowledge but they've presumably listened to each other ramble hundreds of times and don't always like the same things/have the same investment in doing something. They'll enjoy the other's reaction but feel no need to experience it together.
Shinichi does rely on Ran beyond even being a child, whenever it's a fight he watches her win knowing full well that's the outcome and trusts her to say the right thing at the right time in the right way during cases (often as Sleeping Kogorou but it's still him) and he knows he can ask her for a lot as she's very willing to give and he's painfully aware of that so avoids it whenever he believes he can afford to.
I feel like people forget that beyond Shinichi being a bit mean as a love language (see Sonoko, The Detective Boys, Professor Agasa and his football team) which is where the regularly used 'barou' comes from, he regularly notes Ran's knowledge and reasoning skills saying she'd make a good detective; He is also a kuudere and always tries to play it cool when Ran's involved. Meanwhile the usually confident Ran is a dandere and is very shy when it comes to advancing their relationship. They are also the canonical bad luck x good luck pair (look at Ran's extreme lottery wins versus Kaito's near disaster heists he had to use all his skills to barely succeed and tell me I'm wrong).
I can see what you mean.
Their relationship is so beautiful.

DP x DCMK (x DC)
Where Danny and Shinichi meet at the Hawaii where's a Ghost Convention (pre-portal and Conan, when they're both around 11–12 years old) since both sets of parents are invested in the topic. (The Fentons because they're the Fentons and Yusaku because he's researching for one of his books).
They become friends and keep contacts through messages, sharing school shenanigans, crushes, cases and family mishaps.
The One Thing that Danny doesn't share, though, is his halfa status.
First, because Shinichi doesn't believe in the supernatural (according to him, magic is just unexplained science) and second, because his change is far from any kind of "normalcy" and Shinichi had categorically stated that he doesn't want anything to do with superheroes, he's just a "normal" detective and they (the Justice League) save the world.
Though, it's not unusual that, if something weird happens in a case, Shinichi asks Danny's opinion and intel since the Fenton's library has "weird"/obscure material. (If the answer gets him too close to superhero-stuff, Shinichi passes the ball to the JL, more specifically to Red Robin, but that's something for a following reblog of this thread.)
So when Shinichi becomes Conan and settles in Ran's home, he contacts our favorite boi.
(A bit late to the @crossoverdanuary party... (^~^;)ゞ Anyway, long post in chat-style, plus an extra, so I decided to use the read more function because it was getting out of hand... (≧▽≦) )
Shinichi: Hey Danny, do you know anything that should be killing you, but instead it shrinks you? Danny: Shrink as in size or age? S: Age D: Hold on, gotta check some books to be sure, but usually anything age-related is dark shit. What's for? Fun or case? S: ...It's for a case D: Well, that didn't sound ominous at all, then gotta go *faster* *few minutes later* D: Okay, the closest thing (still in the Mortal Realm) to what you asked is this jewel most commonly known as "Pandora" (if she knew, she would definitely lose her shit) D: it's a gem hidden inside another gem that glows red under the moonlight D: "if bathed in the light of the Volley Comet, it would shed tears capable of granting eternal life" S: This doesn't sound anything like what I asked you (눈‸눈) D: Cut the sass beanpole and let me continue D: since the legend exist and it's documented, it should be reasonable to presume that someone managed to attain it, right? S: ...right *squinty eyes* D: So if some scientist tried to reproduce the same results in the *scientific way* instead of the magical one, they could have either the original "Tears" or the one who consumed them and run test and experiment on them D: whatever the case, there would be either some inferior or failed products that instead of making you immortal, *de-ages* you, which is the next best thing (i.e. you would live longer) D: but since they were "failures" compared to the immortality elixir, they could definitely become poisons. D: So! Since you were so ominous, was it really for a case or did our dear Professor Agasa dabble in alchemy? 👀 (read) D: Beanpole, I know you read my explanation and since this is really dark shit you *have* to at least give me context D: because among the warnings that the grimoire gave me, there's the thing that you become somewhat cursed S: ...Or you're cursed or you're not, there's no "somewhat" D: He speaks! 🙌 D: Give me *the deets* *long pause* D: *Shinichi Kudo* ಠ_ಠ S: Okay, fine! I can feel your disappointed stare all the way to Japan, stop! >Д< D: Then explain S: Okay S: so you know how I can't leave things alone when they have suspicious all printed on them? D: Your worst defect, yes, but continue D: ...wait D: Shinichi no D: HOW OLD ARE YOU NOW?? S: Still 17, thank you very much D: I mean physically, you little shit, don't dodge the question! S: ... S: ...we think 7 D: What in the Infinite Realms everloving fuck, Shinichi D: Okay, you know what? D: I'm coming to Japan and you can't stop me, you *midget*, I know what you're already going to say D: it's dangerous, yada yada D: nothing I've already seen and fought S: What do you mean?! D: Since you're *such a good detective*, deduce it yourself D: give me your coordinates in the meantime and don't you dare move from that spot S: If you send me Superman or anyone of his creek, I swear to Kami, Danny D: Please, Superman could only desire to be anything like me, now *coordinates* ಠ_ಠ *coordinates sent* D: good boy D: now get ready in 3 S: 3 what? D: 2 D: 1
🕵️👻
A full body shiver run over Shinichi as soon as the "1" appeared on the screen, so he looked up from his phone, searching for where the cold draft could have come from. However, the agency toilet window was closed and the closed door had a good insulation, last time he had checked.
So what...!
"Boo."
Shinichi shrieked with all the high pitch of an elementary schooler, as he whirled around to look at what, or better, who had whispered by his ear.
A white-haired green-eyed floating teenager with a black hazmat suit with white accents grinned almost maniacally at him, showing their fangs predatorily.
Anatomically they looked male and despite the unhinged expression, the body language didn't project "danger". If anything, it was loose and casual as if he (until otherwise stated) belonged here.
The unearthly glow suggested either some substance coating him that gave him that illusion, or there was magic afoot.
Irritation surged inside Shinichi: Danny knew his rules! No direct superhero meeting, only exchange of intel!
"Who are you and why did Fenton send you?" Shinichi gritted, crossing his arms to appear less like a 7 years old.
"You disappoint me, little detective, I thought you would have figured it out at first glance!" The supposed hero pouted, crossing legs and arms midair and staring back at Shinichi. "I guess that your fame had been an exaggeration, after all. Some East Highschool Detective you are!"
The teasing little smirk incensed Shinichi more than alarming him (the other knew his secret!), but the last thought made him pause.
Danny wouldn't betray him like this by informing whatever "superhero" of this situation just to help him without his consent. Their boundaries had been awesome like that and had been respected so far, despite the many trials both had faced.
So who was this person really?
Shinichi's mind focused back into deducing the teen before him, and the more looked, the more disbelief made way in his heart. (...He had said he would be coming to Japan, but not in that instant!)
"No way, Danny?"
"Fucking finally, midget! What took you so long?" Danny huffed, untangling then touching down on his feet and looking him over. "It even gave me time to take a look at your situation!"
"Hey! Your voice is different, so I could deduce it only because "if you exclude the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the Truth"! Since you would never spill my secrets to anyone, this must have been you!" Shinichi gestured to his friend, who flushed green when he registered the meaning of the words.
"Wow," he breathed, sounding pleased, as he scratched his nape, "you would believe that a ghost of me is still me instead of me betraying you, wow!"
"Wait, ghost? I thought you just become a superhero, not that you died!" Despite his insistence on not believing the supernatural, Shinichi had read the Fentons' papers on ghosts (the most recent ones, AKA the "no more biased version" as Danny had called them). And, while he hadn't told his friend this, the scientific breakdown of what makes a ghost what they are, had made Shinichi believe in the existence of ectoplasmic beings.
But to discover that one of his best friends had died, he hadn't known or could have done anything, plus Danny hadn't felt safe enough to tell him until it had become unavoidable, made Shinichi clutch his heart in agony and despair.
Probably sensing the shift and interpreting the action for what that was, Danny's face shifted into regret, as he knelt down before the shrunk detective and a ring of light lit up at his waist, washing over him and leaving a hoodie-and-jeans-clad raven-haired and blue-eyed teenager.
Slowly, as if not to spook a frozen Shinichi, Danny laid a hand on his shoulder, while the other took the free little hand to his NASA hoodies chest and splayed it there, allowing him to feel his heartbeat. As if he had known that only words wouldn't have been enough to convince the detective.
Slowly but surely, feeling Danny's sluggish but steady heartbeat, made Shinichi unclench, then lean against his friend's chest, head tucked under his chin.
Carefully, Danny wrapped his friend in a hug, knowing well that, while physical affection was welcome from him, Japanese social conventions and the Kudo's upbringing had left Shinichi a little adverse to prolonged contact.
As the apparent 7-years-old melted into the embrace and clutched Danny as well, followed by a suspicious wet sensation on his chest, the halfa realized that this was bad.
Shinichi had never sought comfort like that, according to professor Agasa (who Danny did keep in contact with, since he was more a parent than the Kudos), so to do this now...
"It's okay, Shinichi, I'll explain better what happened to me, but it's not your fault." Shinichi shuddered at these words and buried deeper in the embrace, making guilt shoot through Danny. He had caused this breakdown. The least he could do was to help him through it and some.
"And we're gonna find a way to solve what happened to you, I promise."

I kinda wish that the DetCo canon would do more with the fact that the relationship (I don't mean this in the shipping sense) between Conan and Haibara has been, or at least logically should have been, really strained for a long time.
Originally, they had this development where Haibara was really messed up, overly cautious and trying to force her maladaptive survival psychological issues onto other people, and generally not good at positive interactions. Then, slowly, Conan and the others started gaining her trust (not entirely though), and also her general mental health improved (never completely though).
But then it turned around, and started getting significantly worse. Haibara isn't really in a healing arc anymore. If Aoyama still took her seriously as a character (which, to be fair, I don't think is the case), she would be in a retraumatization arc. Conan and his allies are limiting Haibara's agency, invading her privacy, dismissing her concerns about all this, and pretending that this isn't happening while she can obviously tell that it is happening.
I think the really obvious turning point was the Mystery Train arc. Haibara even called Conan and Agasa out on it and stated that she wouldn't forgive if she were to be treated like that again. Instead of taking her hurt seriously, they just told her she should "be thankful", and dismissed her hurt as "tsundere", refusing to take her trauma seriously after using it and using her as a mere chess piece in their plans (and Akai even triggering her more by gloating about it).
Since then, Haibara has been trapped under the constant, violating supervision of these people who have demonstrated that they don't respect her, and also refuse to acknowledge that the problem even exists. It's not a situation where her recover arc could realistically continue. By all logic, she should be spiraling, getting worse again.
And maybe this is on purpose; Aoyama definitely didn't plan the manga to get this long when he introduced Haibara, and originally the slow-burn of her recovery was a good way to postpone a scenario where Haibara could actually trust Conan enough to give him the kind of information that would lead to the finale arc. But... eventually, even with the extreme slow burn of DetCo, Haibara's recovery arc and relationship development with Conan would have gotten to the point where her continued withholding of crucial information would no longer make sense... and, I guess, rather than start concluding the story at a humanly reasonable rate, Aoyama just opted to nuke Haibara's whole recovery arc and character and relationship development (not only with Conan but also Agasa).
Which could have been tragic but realistic (albeit kind of a major downer out of tune with the manga's usual tone, and upsetting to anyone who had been invested in the slow-burn mental health improvement arc), but then Aoyama can't even be arsed to take it seriously, and is now just pretending that the situation with Haibara and her relationships with Conan and Agasa are still "normal" instead of FUBAR.
It's regrettable and really shows how much everyone dragging out this franchise to milk it for more money just... doesn't actually care about the story anymore, hasn't in a long time. They'll eventually just kill central, fan-favorite, long-running story arcs rather than actually letting them conclude or evolve in a satisfying manner if that would mean risking their precious status quo (which has warped beyond all recognition anyway, so I'm not sure why they bother).
#dcmk criticism#detective conan criticism#haibara ai#edogawa conan#professor agasa#dcmk writing criticism#eternity series#haibara#conan#agasa#by the way the same refusal to let story arcs develop in a satisfying way if it risks status quo#is also warping the shinran relationship development and secret identity issues into something not... good#Aoyama & co. want it to be a positive relationship but they're taking away the capacity for it to be.#the secret identity drama has honestly run its course and they should have updated the situation to Ran finding out#and the characters dealing with the fallout and the development that would have followed#a WHILE ago.#instead it has become a rehash of a rehash of a rehash that makes Conan/Shinichi more and more unsympathetic & less justified each round.#do Aoyama & co. not realise that letting these plotlines evolve would actually be HELPFUL by giving them NEW scenarios to work with?!#I give up#old fan yells at cloud

Detective Conan/DCMK characters in a Classroom of the Elite setting would be so interesting to watch/read.
I've only just finished the CoTE anime (Seasons 1-3) so i haven't read the manga or the light novel but the Advanced Nurturing Highschool or AHNS for short is so, so shady. If it and the White Room existed in the DCMK universe, I have no doubt in my mind that they would have some connection to the Black Organization.
So just imagine an AU where Shinichi caught Vodka doing an arms deal in middle school but didn't get caught by Gin like in canon. Imagine him trying to investigate them but coming up with nothing until he, Ran, and Sonoko are on a train ride for the first day at AHNS where he runs into Gin and Vodka, just like he did in canon episode 5.
He learns their codenames there and saves the people on the train from being bombed to hell. Unfortunately, this ends up making him, Ran and Sonoko late for their very first day. They're thankfully excused because the incident was out of their hands before being placed into their respective classes.
You can have adult characters like Jodie and Amuro be teachers and business owners while also acting as undercover agents.
Important student characters at the school:
Hattori Heiji (he can be in the same class as Shinichi where they are both antagonistic at first but later become allies and friends)
Toyama Kazuha (they were made for each, I will never seperate them)
Kuroba Kaito (who also happens to be Kaitou KID and regularly sneaks off school campus for heists. Jii Konosuke cases places for him and he contacts the man using a secret phone he smuggled in. He tends to downplay his academic and physical skill to be somewhat average so he's in Class C or B)
Nakamori Aoko
Akako Koizumi (no magic in this AU but she's interested in spirituality and shit like tarot cards and all)
Hakuba Saguru (suspects of Kaito of being KId and regularaly requests time off from school to go to the heists)
Eisuke Hondou (but only for a little while near the end of 1st year as a rival for Shinichi and love interest for Ran before going back to America to pursue the future he wanted)
Sera Masumi (would be introduced in 2nd Year when Shinichi starts investigating Bourbon as a potential subject because she somehow found out he has connection to the maker of the pill that shrunk her mother)
Important characters outside of school
Agasa Hiroshi (supplies Shinichi with spy tech)
Haibara Ai AKA Miyano Shiho (shrunken and lives with Agasa just like in canon, specifically sought Agasa out because he was a connection to Shinichi, who was involved in her sister's case and was a detective at that. They contact each other through secret phone. She also happens to be one of the failed subjects of the white room)
Miyano Akemi (During school break, Shinichi went back to Beika where he was then approached by Masami Hiroto and the rest goes like canon with her dying in his arms)
Akai Shuichi (still don't know what I'm gonna do with him but he's important)
Rena Mizunashi AKA Hidemi Hondou
Side Characters in school
Nakamichi (Shinichi's soccer friend)
Eisuke Aizawa (Shinichi's soccer friend)
Kazumi Tsukamoto (a third year in Ran's karate club)
Tashiro (Ran's friend)
Hidaka (Ran's friend)
Anyways, I imagine Shinichi being in a different class from Ran and Sonoko and just thinking about ShinRan competeing but also saving each other's asses from time to time is beautiful.
Having Kaito and Shinichi's respective Black Organization be one and the same would make it more interesting as well.
Anyways, I think these characters are fun to play around with in this setting, mixing the dramatic school life in CoTE with the looming threat of the Black Organization as Shinichi delves deeper and deeper into the case.
Idk how this would be resolved but it would be so, so fun to read if written well. Shinichi's gonna be so paranoid by the end of this lol.

Voltage - Side Character Election 2024 Results
Voltage hosted Side Character Elections over the last few weeks. You were able to vote for your favorite side characters of plenty titles. There was a Part1 (Kyobashis father won!!) that decided on merch for the side characters and this Part2 enabled for the Top10 to get stories for themselves!
1st place gets a longer special story (would have gotten a CG they got 1.5 million votes :') Rip we missed out)
2nd and 3rd get a special story
4-5th get short special stories
6-10th will get mini episodes
Anyways here's the Top10:
**[Koi100] Side Character Election results!** These 10 side characters will receive stories.
1st will get a longer special story 2nd & 3rd will get a special story 4-5th will get a short story 6-10th will get an episode
1st place: Takeru Momose (HLITF) 2nd place: Hayato Miyayama (HLITF) 3rd place: Toru Kyobashi (Kyobashis dad) (MPD) 4th place: Daisuke Chiba (HLITF) 5th place: Mitsuharu Kyogoku (RMD) 6th place: Ryosuke Inui (KBTBB) 7th place: Zach Thompson (MK) 8th place: Jinguji Sonpoku (WDCK) 9th place: Daisuke Agasa (MPD) 10th place: Eito Ichinomiya (KBTBB)
You can find their votes below and the rest of the rankings! There were very interesting prompts for each character - some felt like fanfiction, a bit trolling or interesting character depth 👀
Momo finally gets a story and it's about falling for him instead of Tsugaru 🙈 I wonder how they'll handle his GF ahh. Still i'm so happy! The rest of the Top10 is promising too. Finally Jinguji, Mitsuharu, CHIBA, and Miyayama!! Its so funny how they even had Furuya and Tomohiro and offered a redemption arc for them 🙈 Blood Moon and Kasatsubaki sounded like the actual plot of what their routes would have been like if they wouldnt have gotten cancelled. I wish they were ranked higher!
Also Chaen! Would have been an interesting yandere story. We'd need an animal mascot or villain election!
I also don't get why Plusts manager or overall got so few votes. It hurts 🥲

Hi there!! I'm so thrilled to hear your thoughts on this topic too! This is actually my first time sending an ask, and since English isn't my first language, please forgive my dry tone or if some of my sentences seem confusing in anyway 😭
Anyway, back to the topic. I only recently learned about the long list of APTX 4869 victims. Previously, I thought the victims were just Haneda Kohji, Amanda, Mary, Shinichi, and Shiho. While it’s true that APTX 4869 was tested on many others, most of them seem to have died (I think?) and Shinichi and Sherry are the only and two latest known survivors of APTX 4869, plus the key point is that Gin and the boss were aware that Shinichi and Sherry were still alive, yet they still gave the drug to Mary. This makes me believe that they didn’t intend for Mary to die either.
About familial genes, I admit my knowledge on that topic is very shallow, and I honestly don't know much about it so I completely agree with your perspective. Also, don’t worry—you understood my points perfectly. I just suck at biology I’m sorry 😭😭😭
As for the idea of ensuring a direct connection to Sherry through family ties, I actually thought the same as you. Sherry is emotionally unpredictable, so it's hard to predict how she might react. And yes, it’s very juicyy that Sherry herself knows that Gin understand her better than anyone else. Let me elaborate:
Gin’s ability to recognize Sherry from a strand of hair or her presence alone suggests he knows her down to the smallest details—possibly even the sound of her breathing. Initially, I thought this detail was exaggerated, but then I remembered how my mom can recognize whose hair is whose in our house. When she sees a messy strand, she scolds me, and I always ask, “How do you know it’s mine?” She’ll respond, “I can just tell!”
This makes me wonder if Gin could have been the person the Boss assigned to care for Sherry when she was young. After all, her parents passed away when she was just born, and her older sister was only about six or seven at the time. The organization likely wouldn't have left the sisters alone to care for each other. Their goal in raising Sherry was for her to continue her parents' research. To achieve that, the organization would’ve needed to carefully nurture her scientific potential. Japan, known for cultivating young geniuses, would likely have had a structured process in place.
The boss would have had to assign Sherry’s upbringing to a highly trusted member. Judging from the personalities of the Organization members we know so far, aside from Vermouth, only Gin stands out as meticulous, calm, and reliable enough for this task. And since the Organization’s priority was her scientific training, teaching Sherry to use weapons or fight wouldn’t have been necessary. An obedient Sherry who couldn’t defend herself would have been easier to control. However, Sherry turned out to be a skilled shooter (as shown in Volume 18, File 178), and it’s likely Gin was the one who trained her. His shooting skills must be on par with Akai’s.
Even as a child, Sherry shows fear whenever she senses the presence of BO. She once mentioned they knew what she looked like as a child. But, interestingly, in similar scenarios, Mouri and Doctor Agasa didn’t immediately recognize Shinichi when he was shrunk. This implies that even if Sherry met some Organization members when she was young, those encounters would have been rare because each member had different missions. Many of them may not have even met her.
From this, it seems that the one person Sherry feared recognizing her child form—the person who had been with her throughout her life and could identify her by a single strand of hair—was Gin.
I hadn’t considered the possibility that Mary and Gin might be siblings, as I remember Mary is about 20 years older than Gin. That’s why I lean more toward the theory that Mary is Gin’s mother. The thought of people speculating about their possible relationship cracks me up every single time—it’s such a wild idea, but it would be entertaining for sure 😂
And also, I’ve often wondered, like you, why Shinichi and Sherry haven’t been caught yet despite the immense risks they’ve taken. It’s important to remember that BO and Gin aren’t our usual murderers (I'd be happy to explain this if you're intrigued ^^). The only and most plausible explanation might lie in Sherry’s antidote.
Thank you so much for discussing these fascinating, brain-exploding theories with me. I’m genuinely happy to share thoughts on many interesting topic. Have a great day!
Hi again anon! Bit of a late reply but yesterday was really busy fjdjgfj
Also, no worries about your English, it's great! And welcome to the non-native speakers gang hell yeah <3333
CW: brief mentions of grooming in general, and implications of SA in regards to Gin and Sherry (whether we like it or not, the subtext is unfortunately there).
I'll admit, I hadn't considered the possibility of Gin being Shiho's sole "caretaker" while she grew up, but considering the fact that (based on what little she lets slip about her life before taking the APTX) it pretty much feels like she may have been meticulously groomed to fill her position as Sherry ever since she was a child, it does kind of make sense that there'd be someone she was "assigned" to.
Gin being the one Shiho is most terrified of, despite the fact that Vermouth is also right there and pretty much seems to have beef with all of the Miyanos (not to say she's not scared of Vermouth, but I'm fairly sure Gin has her beat on Shiho's fear scale), could imply a slew of pretty fucked up things aside from the usual "this guy will hunt traitors down personally and shoot them in the head". Because yes, that's scary, but every codenamed BO member is capable of it. Some of them even take pleasure in killing people, just like Gin seems to.
The fact that Shiho has this visceral of a reaction only when Gin specifically is brought up (or is nearby) could be indicative of much worse things having happened to her when she was young, and although there is no actual confirmation of this (and there will most likely never be), it really can't be denied that the subtext hinting at it exists, whether that's intentional or not.
Alternatively, it could be because she associates with Gin most of her memories as a BO member: as those have been a very taxing 18 years culminating in the loss of her sister (at the hands of Gin himself, even), she may have somehow pushed everything she'd so far repressed onto Gin (if we still operate on the assumption that he either pretty much raised her or was a supervisor she had to spend time with on the regular), hence the spike in fear regarding him only and the disproportionate gap between that and the amount of fear she experiences when detecting other BO members. I'm not quite sure that's possible from a psychological standpoint, but brains are very weird, so maybe it is.
Admittedly, my knowledge of canon information regarding Gin is a bit lacking, so he might really be too young to be Mary's brother (although we do have a 15 years gap between Masumi and Shuuichi, so maybe we could reach 20 with the platinum blonds if we believe in the heart of the cards /silly), but it's just too funny of a possibility for me to completely discard it. I believe in the Cain Instinct Theory <3
Thank you so much for sharing all these thoughts with me! I'd love to hear more— whether through asks or DMs, either is fine with me, but pick whichever you're more comfortable with—, I love yapping about detco as you can probably tell djsjfkdkf
And a great day to you too💚

So I was reading through the detective conan wiki and came across this screenshot
and instantly thought like what if instead of Conan trying to keep the detective boys out of trouble or his being the (unofficial) leader of them, what if instead Conan really was a bad guy/criminal and the detective boys were in charge of keeping him from committing crimes.
After being shrunk, Conan, somehow, gains an interest in crime. Instead of solving crime though, comitting crime, not murder (or not yet?) but more like small scale scams or thievery and what not. I'm no expert.
The detective boys latch onto Conan pretty early on, after his very first day in elementary school actually, and they also found the detective boys super early into the series (I think it's ep4), and at some point after that, I guess, Conan gains this fascination for committing crime. So he tries making plans for something or another, but his plans always get thwarted by either the detective boys or someone else, like in episode 5, when there's a bomb on the train and Conan wants to plant a bug, he tries to stick it in some gum and put it under the seat, but is caught by Ran and the detective boys. Except in this I guess it would be something more than just planting a bug. Look, there's a lot I haven't thought about, all this came to me like 10 minutes ago. You're welcome to flesh things out btw if you want and can think of anything.
And he still solves crimes and stuff. It tickles that part in his brain that likes puzzles and everything, so much that he'll drop plans for, like, a bank robbery in favor of figuring out whatever case he comes across on the way there. So I guess there would be two ways of preventing Conan from committing crimes, one would be to physically prevent him (not very safe, he bites, and he's slippery) or to find a crime that has already occured for him to solve.
And I don't think the police know, and if they do, they think it's a joke, but just imagine like the detective boys or Agasa frantically calling Takagi like "Quick! Give us an unsolved case!" as they're trying to get a proper grip on Conan XDDD Takagi thinks Conan is just really enthusiastic about becoming a police detective in the future. (Conan is the 20 year old with 10 years of job experience. Actually all the detective boys will, once they're adults, now that I think about it)
Hiiiii I am SO sorry this has been sitting for like. A month. Honestly I think canon Conan is already halfway there—he has a clear sense of morals and justice but almost no regard for laws. If it would solve a case or save a life, he has already shown himself willing to break and enter, and I’m pretty sure it’s not legal to kick a brick at someone’s face at 80 mph. To reference your ask more directly, if there were some key piece of evidence to nail the Black Org, Conan would absolutely plan and enact a bank robbery to get it. It’s details like this that remind me his character is strongly derived from the original ACD Sherlock Holmes.
That being said, I do love the idea of Conan going wildly Feral if there was ever too much time between cases. He just gets stir-crazy and will start to cause trouble on purpose, and the Detective Boys have taken it upon themselves to keep him in line (as best they can!). Thank you for your ask, and please, have a sketch!!

Stray part 2
"So dare I ask what a cadre of thieves are going to do against an international criminal syndicate with incredible power and an utter lack of regard for human life?"
"Oh, you're young." Takagi said, then seemed to pause. "Theoretically, at least."
Oh right, he'd almost forgotten about that wrinkle. "Unless that bet about me being Kudo Shinichi is right?" he hedged.
"No, you'd still be young if that was the winning bet."
Huh. He hadn't thought there were other bets, or that they'd say he was ever older. "Such as what?"
"Shinigami." Takagi answered.
"Seriously?" Conan asked in disbelief.
"You tell me Mr. I'll-Tell-You-Who-I-Really-Am-In-The-Afterlife who's got a perfect attendance record to every murder in Tokyo and several outside of it." Takagi challenged.
It...was incredibly wishful thinking Takagi hadn't remembered that little exchange, wasn't it?
"Inari was particularly proud of his theory that you were a personification of the concept of Justice who'd manifested to punish humanity for the sins they commit upon each other, except you met the kids and their purity won your heart, so you've taken them as you disciples and only punish the guilty instead of humanity as a whole."
"I'm sorry, what???"
Takagi shrugged awkwardly. "Fox is...I mean we're all dramatic, but Fox he...he sees the world a little differently than the rest of us."
"So that brings me back to what a person who's that far out there, or any thieves could do against them."
Takagi was quiet a moment. "Ask Agasa-Hakase."
Conan narrowed his eyes. "I'm asking you now."
"And anything I'll say would be extremely biased. You won't find much in official records, A lot of people in power wanted those records forgotten. And most of the adults you talk to are around my age, so they'd have been kids at the time. I was only ten myself when Joker and the others saved me."
"Saved you?" Conan fished.
Takagi smiled at him, a little sadly. "The Police Chief of a small town was trying to manipulate things to be mayor. I ended up being kidnapped so the 'Missing Kid' thing could be leveraged against the current Mayor. 'If Abe Kazuhiko were Mayor, that child would never have gone missing'."
"That's stupid." Conan snorted. "You'd tell as soon as you were found."
"If I was found." Takagi said with twenty years of bitterness. "That wasn't in the plan."
"Oh." That...that was vile. Murdering a kid for political clout.
“But while all the police were rallying against the current Mayor, Joker and his crew - who were only in town to stop for gas - heard and went digging. They found me. They saved me. When no one else could even be bothered.”
There was a lot he was leaving out. The mind-controlling phone app. The two weeks he spent feral in the metaverse, dodging cognitions turned militia and eating memories of food and pieces of dreams. But there was no way he could have that conversation without sounding insane.
"I'm surprised you became a police officer after that." Conan commented.
Takagi was silent for a minute. "It wasn't my first choice, that's for sure. And I won't get into all the whys but a big one is...people go to the police for help. And I wanted to make sure a good cop wasn't harder to find than a unicorn."
Of course he knew where to find unicorns. But he wasn't bringing that up either.

"Hakase, have you heard of a group calling themselves Phantom Thieves of Heart?"
Agasa let out a deep sigh. "That brings me back. What was it? Twenty, thirty years ago?"
That matched what Takagi-Keiji had told him, as did the fact that he could find nothing official on them.
"Who were they?"
"I don't think anyone found out. The police claimed to have their leader at one point, but that turned out to be a lie." Agasa shrugged. "I think there was talk of a lower profile prior incident, but like most of the country I became aware of them during the Madarame scandal."
"The what now?"
"Madarame, an artist considered a national treasure for his myriad of styles, most famous for the painting, Sayori. One day a gallery showing of his became covered in strange cards. The cards were written by a group calling themselves The Phantom Thieves of Heart. They claimed Madarame was a thief who stole the artwork he claimed as his own from his apprentices, who he'd been abusing. And that he would confess his sins with his own mouth."
Conan frowned.
"Madarame called it nonsense. The next day he put together a press conference and confessed to everything he's been accused of and more, including purposely letting the mother of his youngest apprentice die so he could steal her final work - the Sayori he was famous for. He provided more than enough evidence to prove it. There was not a mark on him, no sign of coercion. It was as if all the evil in his heart vanished overnight."
His frown deepened. "It doesn't work like that."
"But it did. For a little over a year whenever a calling card would appear, people mired in their wickedness were suddenly overcome with remorse. Then they vanished. There were rumors, they were still around helping people, just less publically, and that you could contact them if you needed them."
"Why would they suddenly go from being as attention getting as possible to going stealth?"
Agasa shrugged. "No one could say for sure, but there was a new member of the team running around, one who seemed significantly younger. Some thought it was to protect the kid."
Conan felt his stomach churn. It all lined up. "Hakase...what would happen if they targeted the Organization."
Agasa thought for a moment. "They would, that's exactly the kind of evil they would have targeted. But they always went after individuals, not groups. And since no one knows what their methods are, it would be hard to say. But it hardly matters, Shinichi. No ones heard from them in a decade."
But that wasn't true. He had heard from them that very afternoon. The Phantom Thieves of Heart were real and they were on a collision course with the Black Organization.

One of those instances where the victim recovers, it was all a misunderstanding, and the attempted murderer is... well, we don't know about forgiven, since we don't usually get to see their lives after the case, but they're allowed to patch things up.
This happens more often than I realise, maybe, and usually because "none of this would have happened if it weren't for the feelings that drove the attempt stemming from a huge misunderstanding, and there is a lot of regret as soon as they know the truth."
I'd say it's one of those ways in which the series veers away from the whole "criminals bad, law good" aspect? Because Shinichi and Agasa care more about the people in the case than they do about the fact that there was an attempted murder, which would cause the culprit to be put in jail for a length of time.
It makes me wonder what Shinichi would prefer to have happen to some of the criminals he helps catch and arrest - the ones who are remorseless should definitely go to jail and face punishment, but those who could have done something else? For whom it was a tragedy?
"Conan" aside, he's still just a kid working in the only system that exists; it's not like he can change the system from either within or without. But his idea of how the justice system should work? I do wonder. Perhaps in his ideals, there would be more emphasis on rehabilitation over punishment.
