Yet another Trio headcanon that I must share because I have no self-control, so feel free to reblog @hellfrze and @shinebrightlikealion; during the start of their time together taking missions, the three of them would have discussed contingencies ( especially ones that Cana could predict ) and countermeasures to prevent unnecessary risk for their team. I can see the three of them developing a code word, carrying an enchanted item imbued with each of their magics, or a failsafe in the event that something goes wrong during a mission or if any of them need backup. This is mostly to ensure that they could find each other if they became separated, but also if one or the other was in serious danger, they could activate an item that holds each other's magic or recite a phrase that would alert each other that they were under duress or danger.

Each of them would have carefully considered their code word that would only be used in a context that no one else but they would interpret, something personal that the three of them would immediately recognize. However, the items that they each carry that are imbued with each of their magic essence would be items that they carry on their person:

Cana's armbands, an heirloom from her mother, are each infused with Loke and Gray's magic, with the Left armband charmed with Loke's magic, while the Right is fused with Gray's magic. With both her boys' magic infused in each armband, it allows them the ability to track her location in the event that they're on a dangerous mission that separates them. She can alert them just by rotating the band, or by just touching them. Cana would never have any reason for taking her armbands off, so it would act as a perfect accompaniment for any disguises. This also would mean that if her armbands were removed by anyone else than herself ( because the only time she would ever take them off would be to bathe ), it would alert Gray and Loke that she's in danger and to come find her ASAP.

It's also the same for Loke and Gray.

For Gray, both Loke and Cana's magic is imbued in his sword necklace where the stone is centered, and should he touch his necklace or it is removed by anyone else than himself, it would alert Loke and Cana that he's in danger. For Loke, because his primary source of magic that he utilized while he was a 'human' was from the rings he wore, it's likely that he would have either had one ring that Gray and Cana infused with their magic, or he had each of them imbue their magic on specific rings. Even as a spirit, Loke never took the rings that he wore, more out of sentimentality than necessity, and continued to wear them even after his banishment was lifted.

Even when they don't team up together as a Trio, they all carry each other's magic; whether this is a conscious decision on either of their part or not, their magic continues to hold strong in their respective objects ( and also proved to come in handy unexpectedly ).

personally, some of my favs are the greed duo, the greed duo + krantz & gil, mikuni & jeje, tsubaki & sakuya (huge on this one, their dynamic, esp in drama cds is too funny LMAO i also like their found family? relationship), and mikuni & tsurugi (almost completely due to ch 51.5 it was just so inexplicably beautiful to me)

on another note! i alr asked you ab hcs in another ask (i liked them) so i'm sorry if i'm greedy for asking this too BUTTT do you have any food hcs for the sv characters? things like preferences aside from what was mentioned, spice tolerance, picky eaters or habits!

My favorite sets of characters are Jun, Yumi, and Tsurugi (I love how Yumi and Tsurugi are basically extra dads for Jun's son), Ray & Gil, the Greed duo & co, and Tsubaki with pretty much any of his subclasses (I am a sucker for found family), and just about anyone with Mikuni. (I'm so soft on these guys that it's hard to pick favorites anymore.) As far as ships, I will say I'm fond of Mahiru/Sakuya, Tsurugi/Mikuni, and Tsubaki/Berukia (and Ray/Gil, but they're already on the other list. They're funky lil dudes), but there's not really any that I don't like.

Food hcs! I love them. I hc that Mikuni eats spicy things (partially to spite Tsurugi and his sweets because he got so tired of seeing him eating them), but can't handle the spice very well. He probably tries to get Jeje to try anything spicy he eats, and he straight up refuses. Probably tried to get Tsurugi to eat something spicy a few times, and Tsurugi tanked it like there was no spice.

Speaking of Tsurugi, I think he'd drive me up the wall when eating. I hc that if he's close enough to someone (like Jun or Yumi), he'll just sneak a piece of food off your plate when he thinks you're not looking. And he'll keep doing it until you do notice. Probably also the type to lick something before putting it on his plate to make sure no one does the same to his food. If he's not close to someone (like his first dinner with Mikuni), he behaves himself. I also think he talks with his fork when he uses one.

I think Kuro would steer as far away from spicy as he could manage. Picked up a cup of spicy ramen once and Mahiru found it sitting on the counter after Kuro took one bite.

Berukia is either a very picky eater (like, the Melancholies have had a meeting about whether he should have to cook his own food because he's so picky) OR he is their garbage disposal man, with no in between. (I lean towards the picky side, but the idea of someone not being able to finish their plate and Berukia just pointing at it and going "Gonna finish that?" is too funny for me to ignore.)

I also hc that Berukia is the most casual eater of the Melancholies, if that makes sense? Like the others seem like they eat very stiffly/formally compared to him. (With Sakuya being the second most casual, because I really think he's the most modern addition.) Another fork talker, btw.

I feel like Gear is also a picky eater, but in the sense that if you can sandwich it, you should sandwich it.

Lawless's best dishes are all pastries. I think Licht would prefer that he only make melonpan because it looks like melon, though. (Tbf I also think Licht picks his foods based on looks, it's just a bonus if it's also good)

I feel like Tsubaki and Otogiri would eat more traditional Japanese food than most of the rest of the cast.

three facts about them from my personal headcanons: 1) this seems obvious but she’s bi 2) this isn’t super hc-y it’s more like the show is inconsistent about what’s up and I have a set idea, I do believe that she genuinely was in love with Damon at a point not just Stefan and Elijah 3) idk… Kat isn’t really a character I get into heavy hc territory with a lot

a reason they suck: well she is an objectively terrible person but not in a way out of the ordinary for this verse and she is a villain lol. I guess technically the thing I don’t like about her char sometimes is when they lean too hard on the more misogynistic aspects of the femme fatale trope in how she’s written

a reason they are great: she’s just a fantastic character and villain imo she consistently makes thing interesting every dynamic and storyline she’s in has a little something extra because of her, I love that she’s incredibly clever and competent and tenacious in her pursuit of survival above all else also she also has the best lines.

a reason I relate to them: I don’t really relate to her… actually I can relate to her hating being human in s5 being human is bad enough going from vampire to human sounds terrible lmao.

(what I consider to be) the top tier otp/ot3 for that character. I really enjoy basically all her ships but I do have a favorite and it’s Katherine/Caroline <3 they check a lot of my boxes in terms of just what I enjoy in ships. And for ot3 I’d go for Katherine Caroline and Stefan I do ship and have feelings about all 3 dynamics and they had good moments as a trio in s5.

five things that never happened to that character that I believe should have happened: 1. I really like the majority of her arc in s5 and the concept of the body swap with Elena but I wish the reasoning for it wasn’t so Stefan-centric… I wouldn’t call it ooc necessarily but I don’t think it was good enough for her idk I would alter some of the specifics of her last couple of eps in s5 2. more interactions between her and Bonnie especially it would have been nice for Katherine’s relationship with Emily to come back up as a thread and that to impact how she interacts with / connects with Bonnie 3. I feel like at times she should have kind of had more space in the narrative to express how Klaus impacted/traumatized her over the years. 4. No Queen of Hell storyline 5. Scenes with Hayley + more scenes with Rebekah

five people that character never fell in love with and why:

1.Klaus—the obvious answer is him chasing her and trying to kill her but also I feel like probably before that and just in general they’re both characters who put on masks a lot of the time, and they’re really similar in a lot of ways maybe too similar for them to develop the soft spot to fall in love with each other.

2.Matt—Katherine finds him hot for some reason but he hates her too much for it to be a StefanElijah situation.

3.Kol—Is there ever anything stated in canon about their dynamic? Have they ever interacted? I feel like the dynamic would be sort of Datherinelight I think she’d have fun with him in a similar way but wouldn’t get intense about him the way she did with Damon I think despite herself.

4.Bonnie—Julie was too cowardly to let them interact much.

5.Rebekah—Same thing.

Cordelia Chase

1.three facts about them from my personal headcanons: 1) her first kiss was with Harmony they were “practicing” 2) ats doesn’t ever go very deep into Cordy and acting but I like the idea that it is genuinely something she’s always kind of wanted to pursue but it would never have been her plan to primarily pursue it before her dad went bankrupt, I think once that happened she figured she had nothing to lose and decided to go for that when her mo is usually the most practical option. And when she actually finds her place in Angel investigations it’s something practical that you could argue does occasionally involve theatrics xd so I think that’s the perfect medium for her. 3) Because Cordelia can be really caring and protective when it comes to people close to her, I think she really holds the way he treated Harmony against Spike. She also definitely holds other things against him related to Angel (I don’t think in the canon timeline she ever learned about spuffy which is unfortunate I love Tara’s reactions but Cordy’s would have been stellar too.. but like that’s not a factor here) but I like the idea that Harmony’s treatment is a sticking point for her.

2.a reason they suck: the classism ig it’s hard for me to care when it’s directed at Xander though sorry

3.a reason they are great: I think a lot of what I love about Cordelia is definitely in how Charisma played her rather than the writing for her in either show, she just channels so much… well charisma lmao no pun intended into this character and also so much complexity, you get the feel of her as such a fully fleshed out person right away even though the writers didn’t seem to see her that way. In terms of just personality traits she has that I really dig I like that she’s not afraid to be honest and herself, her confidence, the fact she’s smarter than given credit for not just book wise but she’s a really pragmatic thinker and problem solver, her ambition and her capacity to be loyal and caring and protective even if she isn’t the most compassionate person ever at first. I also just love how funny she is which also goes along the lines of Charisma is so good at being her.

4.a reason I relate to them: as a teenager when I first watched I related to her ideas about brutal honesty now that I’m older I don’t do much. I guess ambition and I can be materialistic

5. (what I consider to be) the top tier otp/ot3 for that character: Coffy probably edges out Cangel for me but just barely I love both of those ships so much. I don’t really have a set ot3 for her I could ot3 her with Angel and Buffy (probably the only way I’d find BA interesting tbh), also could see Cordelia Angel and Gunn or Cordelia Fred Gunn. Or Cordelia Fred Lilah there are options

6. five things that never happened to that character that I believe should have happened: 1. She should have lived 2. She never should have had that arc with Connor and I like Jasmine but I’d either scrap the Jasmine arc or have her exist in a way that had nothing to do with Cordelia 3. she should have been present on the show for all five seasons and Cangel should have been endgame (there aren’t a lot of Buffyverse ships I feel strongly Should be endgame because I tend to be attracted to messy ships like Spuffy Weslah etc. where I don’t necessarily think a conventional happily ever after would fit the ship and satisfy me, but Cangel is the buffyverse ship I think fully deserved that) 4. She should have gotten to talk to Buffy again at some point in the later seasons! Had some crossover scenes! The Willow one she did get also could have gotten into a lot more detail about the parallels and anti parallels in their arcs 5. She never should have been blonde. I realize that was more things that shouldn’t have happened to her in a way but I feel that’s valid.

7.five people that character never fell in love with and why:

1.Doyle — other than the lack of time I don’t think she ever liked him that much outside of him being sort of there for her at a vulnerable time in her life

2.Harmony — I think Cordelia cares for Harmony but she always very much thinks of her as not on the same level as her, not an equal with the ability to rival her the way she treats Buffy even arguably Willow or Anya but definitely Buffy. There’s not enough mutual respect in their relationship to lead to Cordelia falling in love But I think in a world where post Harmony vampirism they got a chance to work on their relationship a lot over time that could look very different.

3.Willow —- Just too much built up animosity from over the years even pre series but if they’d been in a life or death situation together like with Cordy and Xander I’m sure they would have made out and hey maybe they did make out in that closet in School hard.

4.Wesley — obviously the main thing is they met/started flirting when she was a student and the age/power difference. I also think Wesley personality wise is too… not her type I think Cordelia tends to be most attracted / emotionally drawn to people who have a genuineness about them kind of in line with her policy re: tact and honesty, and Wesley is so repressed and has such a convoluted sense of identity that just doesn’t strike me as something Cordelia is into. Even Xander was more genuinely himself around Cordelia and I think that appealed to her (unfortunately).

5.Faith —- They repel as two shadow selves to the same woman do. They also just didn’t get to interact enough because the writers are cowards like with Katbonnie and Katbekah.

Ok so this is my first time writing headcanons and I’m probably messing some things up but I hope you like it! I also know that pregnancy hcs are not something new, but I really want to share my ideas with you 😜

Hashirama

Ok I believe that Hashirama will be the one who will show the strongest reaction when you come home and give him the news

Your first child? He will be so happy! (well excuse his cheeks blushing and his eyes full of tears okay)

This man’s way to express his feelings will make it look like he’s even happier than you

At some point it can get a little annoying, specially if you’re not much of an idealist like him, but what can he do?

He loves children, and the idea of raising one of his own is just, too much for him. Who can blame him?

Soon the discomfort that usually follows a pregnancy starts to show though

You cannot work and take care of your things as before

You get tired easily and you belly’s weight forces you to spend more time sitting or lying on your bed than you’d like

You also can’t stand on your feet for too long because they're swollen

And as if it’s not enough, the baby starts to KICK inside you

Things are hard for you now, and Hashirama notices it

And that’s why I think he’s the best among the three, because he will do anything he can to make things easier for you

Seriously, you can count on him for almost everything: carrying you if you get tired of walking, catching things on a high shelf if you can’t lift your arms or climb on a chair, getting a new mattress if your current one is not soft enough, massaging your belly and even talking to the baby when they’re so agitated they won’t let you sleep

So ask him favors

Ask him anything

He will do it

After some time he will start to think more about the future

And he will talk to you about the methods you’ll use to raise your child, the values you will have to teach them, what you will have to do to protect them

Most of his ideas are applicable because he’s a man of principles and wants the best for his family

But deep inside you know that he will end up spoiling the kid if you left him manage everything by himself

So the conclusion is: Hashirama will be the best 😳

Tobirama

The younger Senju brother will not overreact when you tell him you’re expecting, but you’ll see how much the news will affect him once you look in his eyes

In just some months, he will be a father (!!!)

It’s not the same as having apprentices

This is something else, it’s on a deeper level

Man will need some time to think, to understand this child’s place in his life and etc.

It might seem that he’s not so happy with the situation, but believe me, he is

He just needs time

Just give him some time

Because once he finishes his deliberations, he will be ready to action

He will do lots of research in his books about pregnancy and children and talk to different doctors about it

He wants to understand what’s going on with you so that he can take the best decisions for the good of his s/o and the baby

And yep, in case you’re wondering, the last thing he will do is to talk to you and ask you how you feel lol

He will start with suggestions that you should reduce the time you dedicate to work to avoid physical tiredness and that you should not carry much weight (even when you’re not carrying anything that heavy), which is right

And the way he speaks and acts it’s like he thinks he knows more about your body than yourself 😂

Please, forgive him because he’s trying his best it’s just that this man can’t help being bossy

I don’t know why, but to me, Madara will be the worst LMAO

Don’t get me wrong, he will try his best as much as the others, but his ideas of how one takes care of a pregnant partner are peculiar, to say the least

Once you come home and tell him there’s a baby inside you, this man will CHANGE

You? Carrying the first Uchiha leader’s child? He couldn’t be more proud

His emotions will be as intense as Hashirama’s but his way to deal with them will be a poor imitation of Tobirama’s lmao

Let me explain: everything he does regarding your well being is led by his passion but with the excuse that he just wants to act practical, you see

But unlike the older Senju, he’s not so soft in his manners

And unlike the younger Senju, he’s not so wiling to listen

No matter how much you try, he won’t let you speak

He will not apologize, but he will immediately see he’s wrong

So he will start to make some concessions

Now, I guess Madara will be a better companion during the last months of your pregnancy

Because now there are things that you really can’t do, despite how much you hate to admit it

So let him take care of you now and get some rest

Remember that this is new to Madara as much as it is to you. Mistakes are allowed. But he loves to be useful to his partner and to see you recognize his efforts 💗

She also likes cooking you for breakfast gallo pinto (it's basically rice and beans but it's friggin delicious.)

Some of her favorite's are chalupas and chifrijo too!

listen you basically won the lottery with this woman, she is such a GOOD cook and she makes the most delicious food.

Sometimes you will find her in the kitchen trying to sign some of her favorite songs. She only knows the chorus but she definitely has the spirit!

Listen, it's already been confirmed that Jumin has seen a few soap operas (and been influenced by them hence the kiss scene in his route ajsjsjsj)

Now k-dramas can be pretty dramatic.

BUT HAVE YOU SEEN THE SPANISH TELENOVELAS!?

Seriously if you get this man near them there's no telling what he'll do.

Our sweet and adorable Jumin can get influenced by Tv like that pretty easily, let's admit it, so at one point you may wake up and be in a spanish telenovela lmao

Honestly, when it all started, you were chilling at Jumin's place, ironically watching (but actually who are we kidding, you were pretty invested) one of the stupidest telenovelas you had seen in a while. You loved making fun of the characters and watching as chaos unfolded. It eventually became a routine and every Thursday you'd sit on your couch and stream the new episode.

That day Jumin came home early, and he saw you watching TV. You kissed him to welcome him home, but kept your eyes on the dramatic 'cat fight' scene on the tv. Jumin got pretty curious about what you were watching, and so he sat beside you, watching the whole episode in silence.

Once it was done, you felt a bit shaken up by the cliffhanger, but then got up to make some dinner. However, before you could leave Jumin grabbed your hand making yoy raise an eyebrow, confused.

"Jumin? What's wrong?"

"....MC. Why are you leaving? The show hasn't ended yet, has it? We still don't know what happened to Emilio, and Maria still hasn't figured out that Elena tricked her into leaving. Not only that, the 'salon' is about to close down. Love, we have to keep watching to find out what happens."

You let out a laugh and squeezed your boyfriend's cheeks. "Jumin! I didn't know you got so into it. Well sadly, the next episode comes out until next week so we'll have to wait. I can record it though, and wait till you come home so we can maybe watch it together?"

Jumin nodded and you couldn't help but compare him to an excited child that had suddenly found their favorite TV show. Soon, every Thursday the two of you would cuddle in bed together and watch another episode of the soap opera. Jumin enjoyed those moments so much. Not only because he was focused on the story, but because he loved the way you would suddenly gasp or randomly curse at the screen whenever something happened

Saeyoung:

Ohhh boy

You should have never told him about every single leyend that you grew up with as a child.

One day you were sharing with the RFA about all the spooky ghost stories, since Jumin had been asking about a few of them.

Saeyoung came in, heard spooky ghost stories and was immediately sold. That night you told him about La Segua, La Llorona, El Cadejos and more.

The thing is, you were not prepared for the chaos you had suddenly unleashed upon the world.

The next day while Saeyoung played LOLOL with Yoosung, you heard him retelling one of his favorite leyends that you had told him.

La Segua. The story was about a woman that would appear before sunset, asking for help with directions. The thing is, as soon as you helped her and night came, she'd turn into a horse and kill you. (I know it's weird AKSKSJA but I remember being SO scared of this when I was a kid, honestly these legends are so freaking good lmao, everyone in primary school would just be scared of a lady with a horse head pfttttttt)

As soon as you heard him tell the story to Yoosung, you knew that he was planning something. And were you going to stop him? No :D

A few days later, you invited Yoosung out to eat. As the sun was setting you led him towards Saeyoung's home, and then while you walked you met up with a very beautiful lady asking for directions. Yoosung immediately said 'nope' and tried to get you to quickly run away, but you insisted on helping the poor woman. After calming down a very shaken Yoosung, you explained that La Segua was just a story, and that Saeyoung was poebably just trying to spook him when he told it to him. Yoosung calmed down and apologized to the lady, offering to help her go home.

Suddenly you ended up in a very deserted place, making Yoousng feel a bit uneasy. As Yoosung walked, he turned around to tell you something along the lines of 'fuck this, let's go back to Saeyoung's.' he found that there was nothing behind him. He looked around, trying to look for you, but you appeared to have suddnely vanished.

Yoosung felt his throat get dry as the woman's arm tightened around his, and he tried to look anywhere but beside him

"Yoosung~" the woman whispered.

He yelped as he slowly turned around to look at the woman.

And he found a horse head staring back at him.

Later both you and Saeyoung had to look for him for about an hour and a half, and you found him under a bridge, shaking.

Yoosung did not find it funny at all, and you tried to nag Saeyoung telling him that maybe you had taken it too far, but you both couldn't help but laugh.

Palkia: I’m honestly fine with being referred to as an “it”.

Giratina: Why the hell should we worry about “it” being “dehumanizing” when we’re not human to begin with?

Something that I knew would eventually get brought up is the genders of my interpretation of the trio. The simple answer is encapsulated in the prev post: they’re dragon gods. Gender is a societal construct; sex is for reproduction. Legendary entities that represent the fundamental laws of the universe don’t really have a need for either society or reproduction. So as with the games, they’re all officially non-binary/genderless.

That said, my designs gravitate towards one or the other. One reason is that i’m not creative, bold, inspired, or talented enough to really translate that genderless attribute into humanoid form. Another is that someone pointed out to me a while ago that Palkia has a low waist-hip ratio, stiletto clawed feet, and some designs will feature a more prominent chest. That and the gendered color-coding Pokemon started doing with blue males and red/pink females, like with the menu screens starting from Gen III, the Eon Duo, Jellicent in Gen V, and Team Skull Grunts in Gen VII. 

That said, I’m not a huge fan of these reasons, as you could also make the counterargument that Palkia looks somewhat phallic. So I kinda wanna get into an Extended Rant™ on why I choose to depict my OCs the way, even though no one probably cares lmao

It starts out with the Kanji/Hanzi for “Universe”: 宇宙, Uchū in Japanese and Yǔzhòu in Chinese. You might recall it if you’ve read Pokemon Adventures. 

You might also remember if you visited that one dude on Route 228 in Diamond and Pearl who gets yeeted out of his house by Cyrus’s contrite grandfather by the time Platinum rolls around. Okay, realistically, barely anyone probably does (that guy wasn’t that memorable), but he basically says the same thing as Cyrus in the panels above: 宇宙, coined by the ancient Taoists, esoterically means something like “the totality of extension” + “the totality of duration”. In other words, the ancient Japanese/Chinese word for “universe” is lit. “space” + “time”. This is actually a somewhat obscure, unnecessary detail that even many native speakers seem to be unaware of. It also ties in heavily with the Yin-Yang 陰陽 of Taoism.

I know Taoism is more a Gen V theme, but it’s a concept implicit throughout the franchise, hence games generally come in twos, sharing complementary/opposing or dualistic/dichotomic themes. Even trios tend to have the third member as the odd one out or mediator. There’s much more to the Yin-Yang than just Truth/Ideals and I sorta wish Game Freak would explore it more to really unite the franchise as a whole around the interconnected theme of both diversity and harmony.

The Yin-Yang isn’t strictly about Truth/Ideals as much as it is about the fundamentally dualistic nature of existence and the oneness implicit in the inseparability of coexisting complementary concepts. Thus, truth and ideals are two sides of the same coin, as are time and space as relativity revealed. The Yin-Yang is vague enough to basically be an umbrella representation term for any complementary duality. It should be noted that the feminine Yin and masculine Yang don’t refer to stereotypical/conventional notions of femininity or masculinity, but rather requires an abstract interpretation.

The Yin-Yang is composed of an active component, and a passive/reflective/receptive one. More easily understood in that one aspect creates the body and the other gives it life. One which shapes/nurtures/mothers being and one which animates/directs/fathers it. Abstract interpretations of the feminine Mother and masculine Father follow suit. As do dualistic concepts like particle and wave, existence and essence, ovum and sperm, object/entity and idea/concept, magnitude and direction, defense and offense, nature/tradition and technology/advancement (Gen I & Gen II), space and time (Gen IV), truth and ideals (Gen V), night/moon and day/sun (Gen VII), and shields and swords i guess (Gen VIII).

I excluded Gen III because among the classical elements, earth and water are both traditionally considered reflective/feminine, with fire and air being active/masculine, but i suppose if you factor in Primal Reversion in Gen VI, it works. With the Aura Trio, I read something unrelated but interesting about how apparently Ohmori Shigeru hinted at parallels between the Weather Trio and Aura Trio. Can’t find the source though. Blue - Seas were the first (Alpha) source of Life; Red - fiery, desolate Lands signify the Death of all in the end (Omega); Green - Order/Balance mediates between two forces of nature that can be malevolent/chaotic left unchecked, with the trio master possessing abilities that cancel out the other two. 

Going off the rails a bit more, speaking of color-parallels, there’s probably going to be one of the subtractive colors between Gen VIII and the (highly probable) Gen IV remakes this generation, with Cyan - Dialga, Azelf, Lucas’ accents, Za-cian; Magenta - Palkia, Mesprit, Dawn’s accents, Za-mazenta; Yellow - Giratina, Uxie, Barry’s accents, whoever the third member of the Gen VIII mascot/box art legendary trio is going to be. I wonder how they’re going to incorporate the parallels tho

Anyway I digress. The ancient Daoists associated feminine Yin with 宇/Space and masculine Yang with 宙/Time by virtue of insisting the feminine aspect precedes, but even disregarding that, Space fits in with the Yin criteria of that which represents the body and Time fits in with the Yang criteria of that which initiates life.

So while they’re genderless, Dialga represents the concept of masculinity and Palkia femininity in their most pure, abstract, and universal form according to the Dao. While this doesn’t make Dialga a dudebro and Palkia whatever the hell the feminine equivalent is, in my mind, Palkia has a strong maternal instinct and Dialga is very much a dad. Giratina is weird chaotic goth aunt/uncle who gives u ur first taste of alcohol just to spite grandpa and reads fanfiction with candles and a glass of wine like it’s a fucking literary hour.

That’s my logic and explanation behind it anyhow. The distinction goes something like Palkia will concern itself more with the state or properties of something (who, what, where) whereas Dialga will concern itself more with the role or activity of it (when, why, how). As time and space are, however, they’re deeply intertwined and cannot be separated.

I might move this bit to a separate post somewhere down the line since this has already dragged on long enough, but I’ll share some thoughts on Giratina here and tie it in with the overarching topic of assigning gender roles lol. According to Game Freak, Giratina represents antimatter, but there are some inconsistencies. I know this shit has to be taken with a grain of salt because of Pokemon logic/science and whatever, but I gave it some thought regardless. My personal headcanon is that Altered Giratina represents dark matter/energy and Origin Giratina represents antimatter. Whatever tf Gira represents in Pokemon lore is based on a combination of the two, with the Reverse/Distortion World probably alluding to the idea of an anti-universe. Antimatter and dark matter are not really the same thing, but they’re both trippy cosmic constructs that sound somewhat similar, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . I wanted to make a distinction because while antimatter doesn’t distort spacetime any more than normal matter, it’s speculated that dark matter (actually dark energy) does, and is responsible for the rapid expansion of the universe. 

This would also go along nicely with Gira complementing the the Spacetime twins while also complementing Arceus. It would also fit as justification for Giratina having to switch from Origin to Altered Forme upon entering the universe presided over by Dialga and Palkia, not because of the shift in spacetime stability, but rather due to the violent, annihilating reaction that occurs when matter and antimatter come into contact with one another. It’s by no means a perfect resolution hc, but it is one that I’ve gotten attached to.

Anyhoo, I designed Giratina to appear more androgynous (or at least attempted to). However, going by that masculine active/feminine reflective duality highlighted in the Yin-Yang, Origin Gira, with antimatter a reflection of normal matter, appears a bit more feminine-androgynous, whereas Altered Gira, with dark matter an active driving force for the expansion of the universe, appears a bit more masculine-androgynous (though iirc it hasn’t shown up yet and i’m not too great with consistency regardless). That was my idea behind it in any case. Origin Gira wears a binder under that big dastardly overcoat. i guess it’s technically genderfluid.

Digressing a bit, but another artistic choice was the skin tone of the trio. 0 points for subtlety on my part, but the color is Cosmic Latte, the average color of the universe. Like that bit on gender, I wanted to base it on some aspect of reality. I juggled between that and pure black with stars for freckles, but in the end i’m a lazy piece of shit who cuts corners for a living, so i settled on Primordial Clam Chowder because it was easier lmao. that’s why they pasty af
