I always though Mal's mom was meant to be like "Eleanor" but they stuck an M at the start honestly, Sobbing Emoji. But "Maleanor" also makes me feel less insane since in that scene where she's just handed egg Malleus to Lilia and went to battle, it sounds more like Lilia is saying "Maleanor" than "Meleanor" (Japanese accent pending). Mayhaps they went more with what it sounded like the characters were saying :0 (we don't talk about Doodle Suit to Paint The Roses)

the transliteration of her name is Marenoa (マレノア), which is what all the voice lines are saying! all the Draconias' names start with マレ (Malleus' grandma is Maleficia/マレフィシア) as a nod to Maleficent. :D it's almost certainly a take on Eleanor, which is Erenoa (エレノア), but her name is written in English at a couple points, and I was pretty surprised to see it was Mel instead of Mal!

and, like, that's fine, it wouldn't be first Twst romanization that's tripped me up (like Keito for Cater, I know that's something to do with the loanword specific to playing cards(?) but it's just not how my brain wants to read it). but now Eng has given us Maleanor! and someone else said it was spelled inconsistently between Maleanor and Maeleanor??????? so WHO KNOWS it's a SPELLING FREE-FOR-ALL

I AM torn on which I want to use, because Mel just sounds so cute to me (and is what I'm used to now), but...the Mal consistency is kinda too good to pass up. alas, alas, truly these are the most difficult conundrums of our times. 😔

We were so happy to see each other. Everything's been smooth sailing since then and we've created so many cursed memes, threads, jokes and storylines. Dude, we fuckin' made Rengakura. That little psychopath LOL. Well, moreso I made him but your response to that thread in particular made it so that he didn't come out any worse than he could've. Damn you for having Trunks make the right decision! (Again, I say this with love). At least in one verse, Trunks finally gets a happy-ish ending though. He lives with his mostly mellowed-out/former-tyrant for a wife and a pseudo-sane Saiyan-hybrid child on a spaceship, having space adventures. 🥺 Papa Trunks isn't something I knew I needed until I got it so thank you. I also did not know Maiz was actually capable of chilling the eff out-- THAT was a surprise to me. The fact that she's actually a decent mother is hilarious, considering all the fucked up stuff she's done before without blinking an eye. I also love how through our threads, you can see how she naturally came to care for him, even if she's sadistic and still messes with him from time to time. One of my favorites scenes with them unironically was when she offered to take Trunks to a tropical planet for his birthday. She was actually affectionate towards him the proper way more or less, but he didn't realize it because he was so used to her being busy/selfish/frosty/teasing. Bro thought he was dying. That was tragically sad yet funny all at once. I'd say more but this is already a lot and you already know how I feel about your Yusuke and our favorite assassin, Sanosuke.

ok another one in that i went over everything again expressly to pick up murder mystery clues, especially in the beginning

noted as the first appearance of mordecai, hanging out in the garage. to be perched on the hood of a car, leaning back, is so whimsical for him. jaunty. but also, being the earliest appearance in the comic / its own timelines, you know. more informatively, it sure seems like atlas was shot or something there. looks like it matches his design even from the mostly obscured look we get at it, and presumably there's any all the more unobscured view available to everyone in-universe. it's also presented as part of someone's file, so that's noted re: drago, though it may just be the required framing to present it as a photograph that'd exist at all

then introduced to mitzi in the next page, and i've helpfully added the arrow b/c i was looking for it like "well, based on this Theory that the basis of mitzi and mordecai being in cahoots and having an understanding about it is their mutually having a personal/emotional connection to atlas (at least on their end b/c we see so little from atlas and hear even less. even when people would usually say one is personally connected to their wife. are they)....might mordecai show up at the glimpse of atlas's funeral" and i'm noting how closely that design there aligns with mordecai's, even though this isn't high res enough to be absolutely certain. but: seems to have a shaded-in coloration, center streak in the ear, sharply triangular corner of face (especially a feature in these earliest depictions, rather than this triangularity incorporating a bit more waviness / curve later), light uhh muzzle nose mouth area, what could be the outline of the light stripe under the eyes, light eyebrows >:c ly arched, & pince-nez or just glasses if that's the only option when you're cats....there's a lot of "wow that really could be mordecai huh" design alignments that are otherwise just a lot of coincidences like, whoops drew this background rando who matches so closely one of the main cast members....characters. getting theatrical out here. and what's then also noticeable is: none of the other background randos resemble any other characters, even when if mordecai is simply here as an Important Employee, where's viktor, where's anyone else we know was already around, where's the employees who remained steadfast who are shown immediately after this, versus mordecai who, as an employee, did Not loyally stick around at lackadaisy, but as someone with enough emotional investment in atlas for that to indeed be the foundation of his and mitzi's murder mystery Understanding, to then also maybe be the only lackadaisy employee at atlas's funeral (presumably with mitzi's knowledge), to have left lackadaisy out of grief rather than professional interests....hmm

mordecai also in this picture, where again everyone's hanging out, next to atlas and singled out by being the only person not sitting. did he just get there, maybe. is he On The Job still, i.e. maybe by being something of an [almost always active personal bodyguard] here. seems he'd face more Away from atlas for that. but not like i know what he's up to otherwise, and Thee Point may be to more symbolically have him standing apart. with even viktor also there, sitting and chilling, to show how mordecai Might also be doing that....but isn't. also of course tingling with mystery senses about what mitzi was going to have said to wick here, about how she would hate to, dot dot dot...then changes her mind upon Considering Atlas

here's mordecai Standing Near atlas again while socializing is happening. while he is also distinct from a) mitzi, in that this is confirming (if somewhat implicitly) that mordecai was in fact already associated with lackadaisy & atlas before atlas met mitzi, and b) viktor, who was still stationed with the arbogasts' funeral home, wherein i'm also considering this relevant b/c naturally it emphasizes that the professional viktor & mordecai duo's existence doesn't make them interchangeable: backing up that mitzi sure may have had a reason beyond a coin flip for having this secret with mordecai rather than viktor (and, of course, the reason probably isn't just "i need to work with some lackadaisy employee who can fire a gun" in the first place)

a couple more points being

mordecai going on and on about professional approach all the time; could simply be his preference, could be an expression of the like precision / methodical perspective that makes him good at biting and killing, could be [that] plus just how he deals with his job being biting and killing when it's unlikely he was up to that before the train ride ft. atlas and atlas taking him on for that success....i also wonder if he took a Professional Approach to killing atlas / thinks of it in that way, even if that reason for [secret mystery involvement with mitzi on this] was an emotional one, and that being recent and tumultuous has him like tripling down on this. even though mordecai may not have killed atlas either, even presuming atlas Was shot and killed. and knowing that mitzi gave him a gun, or mordecai gave her the gun, or they passed it back and forth a few times for obfuscation

the pig farmers start wandering into a dark area of lackadaisy's caves and there's bones back there. what goes on in said caves....all this coming about b/c atlas opportunistically took advantage of the cave access, seems like the kind of environment with real potential for some figurative resonance. like also the rivers.

mitzi telling wick that atlas was the murderous one in the relationship....not necessarily that significant when like, technically who around here Isn't murderous. just like there having been "here's the body stashing cave section" isn't necessarily extraordinary in its literal existence, but with the symbolism of wandering into the caves and finding an area with no light, where you start walking on old bones, and are about to be killed yourself....hmm. and re: atlas's murderousness, sure is possible to team up to kill someone to protect a fourth party, even though like, who. and that would add another layer of "mitzi and mordecai care about the same person" on top of their presumed [handshaken] emotional regard towards atlas. possible, but like, who would that be. it seems unlikely atlas would, say, threaten ivy or something. and how would that incorporate that [there has to be the Mitzi's Asserted Culpability] element. but these things are sure noted

not directly related to the mystery but i will leave off again on the mordenico agenda. even though, also, it is a "bite me a zillion times, two zillion times shy on me" situation like, what are the odds the [inroad of intrigue over shaking up the glitter in your funny little guy who everyone usually just would rather ignore] situation is actually bound for working out. yet [Also Everything Else. like in this scene and the prior Hotel Room Fête encounters] and declaring yourselves as the same and trying to stay friends no matter what....we can dream

EDIT: okay this ended up longer than i thought sowwy

so we stopped on this planet, right, to drop off some cargo or whatever bc we're space truckers. and there were some ppl protesting bc their governor Fucking Sucked. like, murdering people and replacing them with androids level bad. but Weyland-Yutani likes the governor, bc he's a shill, so they're willing to pay us to take him off the planet. they don't really care where he ends up, as long as it's Not Here (this should have been the first red flag).

We go to visit the governor. He's holed up in an old mansion with exactly one (1) guard, who is Some Guy with a shotgun. We'll call him Jameson, because that's his name. Mulligan tries awkwardly to bond with Jameson over sports as we convince him to let us into the house to talk to the governor.

Eventually we get in & talk to the governor, he's willing to pay us a bunch of cash to take him off planet. Excellent. While he leaves to get his stuff together the rest of us poke around in his old mansion. We find a secret basement full of human bones. This Should Have Been The Second Red Flag. Karina, our biologist, steals a pelvis.

We leave the planet and head towards wherever we were gonna go to drop off the governor. It doesn't matter, because we get interrupted by a distress signal. We go check out the distress signal, leaving Jameson and the governor alone on our ship with the first mate/engineer/boatswain, Jack.

While the rest of the crew is Dealing With the distress signal situation, our psychologist Miranda tries to check in with out ship and gets Silence. She is, understandably, distressed by this and takes the expeditionary vehicle we used to go planetside to Return To Our Ship. Leaving The Rest Of Us Stranded.

When she got back to our ship, it turned out that the governor was actually an android and had sabotaged it, cutting the power and such. Jack was trying desperately to get everything back in order, and Jameson was trying to kill the governor.

After that we very quickly dealt with the ship we were helping and got back on board the Ophelia. Mulligan & the marine, Reed, went down into the engineering sector to find the governor. Which we did. He was bleeding slightly and holding an unconscious Jameson, about to dump him out the trash chute. Into space. Apparently, the governor (and the distress beacon) were a Test from our lovely parent company weyland-yutani :) a test that were were currently failing. Partially because Reed was pointing a gun at the governor.

Mulligan ordered Reed to stand down (& let the android kill Jameson). Reed, understandably, didn't want Jameson to die & refused. We were still failing the test. Luckily Miranda was listening in on comms & saved the day by talking down the governor, telling it that we could just arrest & imprison Jameson the normal way instead of extra-judiciously killing him. This pleased all parties and we managed to fly away safely.

With the governor shut down in "cryosleep," Reese (our medic) took the liberty of faking Jameson's death and giving him a new identity. When we arrived at the next colony, Jameson used that fake identity (including work history) that Reese made for him to apply for a permanent position on our ship. Mulligan shut him down immediately and handed his resume off to whoever was in charge of the cargo/docking situation on the colony where we landed, getting him a job there and leaving him behind. (We may have also left behind a xenomorph egg. It's literally fine don't even worry about it)

After this we found ourselves in Various Other Situations that led to us attempting to wipe our memories, fake our deaths, steal our ship, and flee to the other side of the galaxy. Immediately after this it is revealed to Mulligan that Jameson is his biological child and that Reese, Jack, and Reed knew the whole time. Reed is also able to reveal that Jameson had a very bad childhood due to very obviously being a bastard child.

After that Miranda started campaigning to get Mulligan neutered. So far Jameson hasn't shown up again, and we haven't found any more of Mulligan's kids, but the gm confirmed that there are 12 in total so odds are there'll be more of them popping up :3

Anyway. That's the story of Mulligan, World's Shittiest Dad, and the Anti-Nepotism Hire.
