well today is your lucky day because i literally just filled out this chart right before answering this:

basically my version of them is thoroughly mentally disconnected from all consequences, because everything is just a game to them.

apathetic with only the desire to see what happens, and what becomes of kris and noelle (in the weird route). They always just barely have the upper hand; if things don't proceed down a certain path (i.e. aborted weird route or something) it's only because they allowed for it to happen. kris is very smart, but 'our' knowledge just objectively surpasses theirs in every way. for the most part.

i guess if i had to describe them as a real-life player, it would be the kind of person that plays all the routes without feeling bad about it, someone that somehow doesnt feel as though they're entirely to blame for the story going this way. (they taunt kris over this, maybe just to pick at their brain to get a look of how they're feeling about all of this.)

after all, deltarune is a game. it's meant to be played, it's only natural that people will want to pick it apart inside and out with its level of popularity. nothing should make a player feel bad about playing the game that they bought and spent time on.

regardless of one's investment in the characters, the world is simply not real to us. but in terms of vessel specifically talking to kris or something, it's not like THEY'RE the one saying "kris you're not real lol" or anything like that, it's more so their existence as a 'watcher' of sorts outside the bounds of comprehensible reality renders them in a similar position as us, someone in control and free from any consequences (presumably), letting kris and co. take the brunt of all your wrongdoings.

there's all of that, but i also like to portray them as being more on the extreme side, going as far as to treat characters fictional even when said character is standing right in front of them.

the 'commodification' of noelle plays into this a lot i think. we haven't seen it much in game so far, but we get the implied player attachment to her via treating kris as a self-insert of sorts just so you can get weirdly, creepily close to and controlling over noelle. it comes off more as vessel only wanting to be close to noelle and kind of discarding kris, just like they once were (lol).

the player's funny little fixation on noelle definitely throws a wrench in things kris-and-noelle-relationship wise, because this Thing is masquerading as kris, and noelle (and maybe toriel to a degree) is the only person able to tell something's wrong. it's almost like Hikaru Ga Shinda Natsu in a way -- your friend has been replaced, and you're the only person to notice just because you know them so well. it comes down to noelle's heart and ability to see through whatever vessel throws at her, if she'll be able to reach her hand out and save kris from sinking away before it's too late.

ummm. im getting off track. got too krisellepilled for a sec. VESSEL. i'm definitely not immune to portraying them more lightheartedly sometimes, but when I do that, it's usually in game, more so showing up as the soul instead lol

they're still sarcastic and blunt and weird, but at least they're not crazy destructive and sociopathic. gotta tone it down for the sillies

I don't know how to code and honestly just made these because making pixelated sprites are fun, and I started working on them during the QnA when there was no new TwinRunes content, so for better or worse I'm not really gonna use these for anything except showing them off. Hope you like them! Happy new year in the Akane calendar! Or well, with that logic, many people’s calendars… (Fun Fact: I know WAY too many March 23rd birthdays. You actually share a birthday with my first and closest cousin. Despite being very differing people, you’re both very influential people in my life.)

Back to you though, I can’t be grateful enough for your kindness, and modesty despite having to balance an extremely popular AU from some of the most well known indie games, Undertale and Deltarune. i present the bizzyteam panopticon of romance routes, Godpoke in da middle. biased to headcanons of course as godpoke is a player stand-in after all.

pink heart is for most potential mutual relationship/crush. red heart is infatuation, more of a heavy handed attraction than actual investment. light blue circle is friendly terms. grey zig-zaggy line is for complicated, unsure feelings.

pattypoke, obvious, i think they found eachother at the right point in time, godpoke traveled real far simply for the sake of meeting an idol and ended up becoming part of history, and patty did as well by standing up for herself and finding her voice and identity again, they are sweet like candy to eachother.

alexpoke, i honestly think godpoke tries to flirt with em but alexei is incredibly skittish or straight up doesnt get it, doesnt mean it CANT work, but al would need to come around n not get distracted so much.

vibipoke, ive seen cute stuff with em but i dont really ship em, in fact i think vibi simply cant really vibe romantically with a person of so few words of their own, vib wants megapon, or capo, whoever comes first.

banapoke, this is krerdly deltarune 2 if we believe in ourselves/lh, i honestly like it a lot, its cuteee.

grujapoke?, i think grujaja feels unsure about godpoke and really hasnt opened a lot to people in general to form a coherent relationship at this point in time, also sometimes megapon loud as fuck and he cant take it, godpoke wants to try to be more mindful of their wellbeing to hang out.

capopoke oooohh boy, capo definitely feels Things for godpoke, its mostly about the rivalry going on and being pitted against eachother, but its also the fact that Godpoke doesnt feel that strongly against Capo even after everything, in fact they seem to Actively care, which drives that weird attraction further, Capo is just that guy that loves provoking something just to get manhandled, probably.

Inspekpoke , HOOOH BOY how do i say this its pretty fucking obvious that Inspekta is crazey for the new deputy, immediately wants to pull them in, immediately wants to get weird about it, a lot of it comes from Spek projecting a buncha things at once at em, and thats a problem, i think he sees them as a strictly blank canvas that can be easily swayed by promises and sweet nothings, but to me Godpoke finds it probably a bit cute at the beginning and then it just turns, clingy and uncomfortable towards the end, especially with the passive aggressive behavior and mood swings coming in, too much too quickly. they got a lot to talk about post-canon, lotsa things to be apologizing for.

Introducing Lofitale (part 1)

LOFITALE ASRIEL DREEMURR

My AU Lofitale is an idealistic Post Pacifist AU that adds in the Deltarune characters as little kids. How they actually were in Undertale! Susie and Noelle, according to the unreleased Alarm Clock app, were called Suzy and Noel. It also serves as a medium to advertise my streaming persona of Lofitale Asriel Dreemurr, who I Vtube as! It takes place on the Surface in the city you see at the end of the game, which I aptly named New Ebott City! Here, monsters and humans are learning to co-exist in harmony.

The main character of this story and who I play as on Twitch, YouTube, Twitter, and Tumblr. Prince Asriel Dreemurr! During the final confrontation, Frisk and Ralsei constructed a new soul for Asriel from small pieces of all seven human souls, including Frisk's own, to fill in what was left of his own fragmented soul. What resulted was retaining the adolescent form he attained in his Angel of Hyperdeath form. The resulting reunion with his family was long awaited and bittersweet. It took a long time and help from his extended family to get him through the darkness of his memories. Asriel developed something of a guilt complex and a short temper, but he's still the same golden child of goodness that he once was. Henow works three jobs to support his family in their lavish apartment in New Ebott City. One of them is a professional streamer from the comfort of his own room. Oftentimes, with his little brother Ralsei.

LOFITALE RALSEI DREEMURR

Ralsei, in Lofitale, is Asriel's first blood brother. Born in the Ruins eight months after Toriel first leaves Asgore. So he is also a prince in this world too. He's born with albinism which would explain his poor eyesight, pink eyes, pink horns, and pink claws. Ralsei was more reserved and shy than his brother before him. He would come to know each and every one of the six fallen humans who would ultimately be harvested and break his heart even further. Unbeknownst to him, his big brother was still alive, watching over him from the shadows as the soulless Flowey. When Frisk arrived, Ralsei developed a strong bond with him and stuck close throughout the whole journey through the Underground. He would come to finally meet his big brother Asriel, and to this day, they are inseparable. Ralsei is with Asriel every time he streams on Twitch.

LOFITALE SUZY DREEMURR

Suzy in Lofitale is an orphaned little girl who lost her parents to Alphys' original determination experiments. Unlike the later trst subjects who became amalgamates, her parents fell down on the spot. Forcing her to live alone for some time. Surviving off of whatever scraps she could find. Sometimes, resorting to stealing or eating inedible objects. Susie was malnourished and sickly when Frisk first met her in the passageways of Waterfall. Being the gutter rat she was, Suzy developed her own survival at any costs mindset. She was suspicious and hostile at first, but she quickly warmed up to Frisk and Ralsei. All three of them would form a bond stronger than they realized. Toriel would adopt her alongside Frisk when they all return to the surface. She currently goes to Seaside Elementary with her new brothers, Frisk and Ralsei.

LOFITALE FRISK DREEMURR

The Hero of the Underground. The Seventh Fallen Human. The Most Determined. You all know Frisk. You all know the story of the Undertale and Frisk's journey through the Underground. Frisk would be introduced to Ralsei when he first arrived in the Underground. Much like Asriel and Chara before them, Ralsei would bring Frisk to his mother. Unlike the other six fallen humans, something special about Frisk stood out to Ralsei. Ralsei would follow Frisk through the whole journey and learn about everything. In Waterfall, Frisk would meet the street urchin Suzy and develop a kinship with her. On the surface, after helping Asriel free monsterkind, Frisk is living his best life with his new family.

Remember about that ask from your thoughts of time rifts, @ashfluffys ? I FINALLY MANAGED TO DO IT!!! Introducing a new AU "Era of the Ice Queen"!

And just for it, i made comic from beginning of Ice Era, here we go!

So, as i developed Hat Kid and Mu are only alive creatures on the planet and no more, everyone else turned into ice statues (EXCEPT SNATCHER, he just disappeared)

So, if you move much earlier, then after going to Vanessa's manor and reaching the attic, Hat Kid almost already took the timepiece, but Vanessa abruptly came to the attic and in a panic, Hat Kid, before she could take it, runs straight down through the window.

Vanessa wondered why she needed this shiny thing. Looking at this shiny hourglass, Vanessa was able to see something in it, and she saw in this hourglass her past, when she was not cursed. And she thought that this was a chance to bring everything back, but suddenly changed her mind, because her prince betrayed her and it makes sense to return to where your lover betrayed you.

And so, she thought, why does she need the past when there is a present? When you can change the present and become a real queen in the end, rule the WHOLE planet! Therefore, she EVENTUALLY left her house and followed Hat Kid. The whole pursuit of Hat Kid went ALMOST unnoticed, because Vanessa quite cleverly stole the timepieces from under her nose, but sometimes they collided and Hat Kid tried to get her hourglass back, but each time unsuccessfully.

That's how, having collected enough timepieces, she, like Mu, changed the whole planet in her own way, now becoming a truly serious and powerful opponent and queen.

There should also be a storybook about what Mu has been doing all this time, but that will be in a completely different post.

So, what about DESIGNS?

I only did Vanessa designs, other of Hat kid and Mu will be later, so here

I didn't decided which design i like more, but i got interested about HARD MODE of boss battle with her... Snowgrave wish (NO WAY, DELTARUNE REFERENCES?????).

She literally beast here, There are no human traits, only instincts of destruction and protection of one's greatness, but even here she will lose.

I even draw one scene of boss battle, cuz why not?

GO HAT KID, BEAT HER ASS UP!!!

In this battle, she became overpowered too much, even more than Mu in canon ending. No matter how Hat Kid tried to hit her, weaken her, Vanessa didn't get tired at all, but only fought much harder. And Hat Kid, on the contrary, weakened more and more due to the terrible cold, she practically did not feel her limbs, until in the end she fell in front of Vanessa, and instead of killing her, she made her a henchman in the ranks as a guard and because Hat Kid, despite Outwardly, she is quite brave and strong. Therefore, why not make her your slave, or rather a guard, while Mu watched in horror and ran away, almost crying, Realizing that this is the end, there is no longer any hope of salvation if that were the case, hehe.

okay. oh my god. soul of sovereignty by ggdg (of lady of the shard & deltarune fame) is discounted for only a few more days, so i need to get this one out while the iron's hot.

so: i'm inviting you along on another journey. we're following a polite gentleman of the wizardly inclination (loïc) who is approached by a sickly woman in dire need (ysmé). all she requests, in her plea, is an escort to guide her to the nearby temple. his decision to support her may turn out to be the most important choice he ever makes.

... have you ever enjoyed the kind of narrative that traps two people with heavily contrasting motives and personalities together in an unbreakable contract? do you like stories of absolute devotion?

i could look at this shot forever ngl

... are you compelled by immersive speculative fantasy worlds where the use and study of magic heavily influences the rhythm of people's day-to-day lives?

i'll go out of a limb:

i think, if you open up your heart, you'll find yourself falling for both of the leads. It's a game that really wants you to look at it from every angle, take it apart, and ask questions about loïc, ysmé, their stories, and what they believe to be true about the world and one another. subtext -- especially the charged subtext this story throws at you and hopes you'll piece together -- is a beautiful thing.

the number of talksprites in this demo is kind of staggering

the jrpg-inspired world of the mosaic and its surroundings is as vibrant as it is profoundly lonely, color folded into every facet of its character as you move through it. appropriately, it's really invested in a lot of questions that arise not just from high fantasy as a genre, but from the modern fantasy sensibilities of jrpgs and the interrogation of what divinity even means in a world where the gods are forces you can interact with and draw power from, however indirectly.

what can i even say? that gg and toby fox's collab score for the prelude is downright heavenly and made it onto my work playlist right alongside the deltarune ost the day it came out on bandcamp? that gg's art, especially their use of light, conveys every scene with vivid beauty?

i wouldn't be posting so much of it if i didn't want to eat every CG. oh my god. he's so pretty. it's not even fair

beyond all of that, i think the game's main resonance point with people is that gg's writing is genuinely thoughtful. they use art detail and deft character writing to convey everything about the leads, using the limited time you get with it to paint layers and layers of information on who these people are and why they make the decisions they do. soulsov's roughly an-hour-and-change of text, expressive talksprites, and lush CGs is infused with so much heart and so much horror and so much intrigue that it leaves you feeling like you're a part of this world, carried along for the ride right alongside the two leads. gg clearly really adores these two, and that level of passion makes everything loïc and ysmé do shine even brighter. in spite of (or perhaps because of) all their friction and flaws, they're easy to love.

(it's really fun to read aloud as a script, too! ysmé's a hoot.)

i hope you experience it with high expectations and an open heart. i don't think it will disappoint. it is, perhaps, just a little bit magical.

i hope you see it through to the end!

How the Sans fight didn't accomplish its narrative purpose - and how a Ralsei fight can iterate and improve on it

Clickbait title - check ✅

A topic I sometimes see discussed on this here Webbed Site is "who or what is going to be the final boss of Deltarune's Weird Route?" I see people talk about it being Noelle or Susie, trying to wrest the tattered remnants of their world from our manipulative grasp, or perhaps Gaster, who has seen how badly we've failed the assignment and reluctantly interferes with his own experiment to try and salvage something out of it.

But I would like to put forward my pitch for Ralsei being the Weird Route's final boss - an encounter that would share some similarities to the Sans fight in Undertale's No Mercy route, but with crucial idiosyncratic differences that not only makes the concept his own, but also improves upon it in terms of its narrative goals.

First, let's look at Sans.

Sans is effectively trolling you throughout his fight, taking all the established rules of Undertale's combat system and breaking them over his knee. He dodges all your attacks, his own attacks deal continuous damage even after they're done hitting you, he starts attacking you while you're in the battle menu, he can vary his attack patterns according to the number of times you've fought him, he's not above tricking you into a false surrender by turning the game's mercy mechanic against you, and as his final resort can make his "turn" last forever so you never get the chance to proceed against him. For the uninitiated, fighting him is a uniquely frustrating experience - and that's exactly the point. Sans knows he can't beat something like you, so he opts for the next best thing - making his fight as frustratingly difficult and unfair as possible in the hopes that you'll get fed up and quit.

The question is - does Sans succeed in his stated goal? The answer, I'm sure you realise, is not really. Firstly, his reputation as a "superboss" makes him an alluring challenge for players wishing to test their skills and reflexes, and such players won't be deterred by falling at the first few hurdles. Secondly, Sans continually goads the player throughout his fight, even going so far as to dunk on them if they fall for his false mercy trick - this makes them more likely to want a runback against him so they can show that smug skeleton what-for. Thirdly, encounters against Sans tend to end very quickly, and retrying takes very little time and effort on the player's part.

Fourthly: M E G A L O V A N I A

To summarise the above points: the Sans fight's purpose in-universe is to deter players from completing the No Mercy route, but the problem is it's too engaging and too easy to retry, meaning most players will persevere and eventually overcome him and his tricks. Gameplay-wise the fight is phenomenal, but story-wise it simply doesn't succeed at what it's meant to do.

And so, we come to Deltarune, and to Ralsei.

And how, I hear you ask, can this harmless ball of cotton candy possibly one-up the great and mighty Sans? Well, firstly, I'm going to lay out a scenario for you.

Deltarune has been fully released, and you are at the final stretch of the Weird Route. No-one else is left to stand in your way, all the strongest and most intimidating fighters fallen to your will. But in your triumph, you've forgotten someone. Someone who still cleaves to the version of the story that should have happened, someone who will not hesitate to stand in your way and stop you from claiming your absolute victory over his world.

The fight begins, and you are confident in your abilities, certain that no matter what Ralsei throws at you - be it physical resistance or emotional guilt-tripping - you can overcome him quickly. After all, his HP and attack are so low. In terms of stats, he simply cannot match up to you, and you've already conquered far more powerful threats than he.

So, you do what this route has conditioned you to - you attack. Ralsei takes major damage, and predictably he uses his turn trying to reason with you, insisting that you're a good person at heart and you don't really want to do this. You scoff, and attack him again. Still he doesn't fight back. He's severely weakened, barely clinging to life - one or two more good hits will finish him off... except suddenly, he casts Heal Prayer on himself, restoring his HP to full.

No matter. You keep attacking, knowing it's only a matter of time until he realises he can't win, until you start to outpace his healing. But then, he does it again. And again. And again. And you begin to remember that taking damage fills a character's TP gauge, and Heal Prayer requires TP to cast... meaning that as long as you keep fighting him, Ralsei will always have the means to heal straight back to full.

Okay, you reason. That shouldn't be a problem, you can just use one of your ACTs to weaken him in some way, use the TP you've accumulated from grazing his attacks to...

But he hasn't been throwing attacks at you, has he? There's nothing to graze, nothing to farm TP from. He's just been talking at you while the battle box displaying your SOUL does nothing for a while then disappears.

But that's fine! Because you've been attacking this whole time, you should have some TP stored up from... hey, why does your TP bar drain whenever Ralsei starts talking? It's like his attempts at defusing any chance for aggression on your end are actually working or something. And oh, that's interesting... it appears that his dialogue is starting to loop back on itself...

And that's when it hits you: this was never about trying to convince you to stop, or try and redeem you. Like Sans before him, Ralsei KNOWS he can't stop us through conventional means - so instead, he has weaponised the battle mechanics of Deltarune to trap you in an unending fight where nothing happens, nothing CAN EVER happen. You can't kill him quicker than he can heal, you can't earn TP faster than he can drain it, there's no run command so you can't escape and regroup, and you can't take damage or die because he never attacks you. You thought him an easy mark and charged blindly in, but now he has you exactly where he wants you.

You scan your available ACTs again, desperate to try and find a way out of this stalemate. But it's no use - X-Slash costs 25% TP to use, and all your more powerful attacks are even more expensive. Your inventory is full of nothing but heals and revives, since you were expecting to take SOME form of damage. There's only one ACT that's available to you, that costs nothing to use, that only appears the moment Ralsei's dialogue starts looping:

Now, is this hypothetical Ralsei encounter a perfect trap? Of course not - I expect some of you have thought of ways to circumvent the TP drain, or considered other potential loopholes. But the point of the exercise is to demonstrate the potential a Ralsei encounter could have in terms of forcing a violent player into a scenario where their normal tools are almost entirely useless to them, and in a way that makes complete and perfect sense for Ralsei as a character, AND doesn't rely on deviating from or outright breaking the established rules of the Deltarune battle system to achieve its aims... unlike Sans before him.

Ah, but wouldn't such a ""fight"" be extremely uninteresting and boring to the player once the novelty wears off? Why yes it would be - and that's exactly the point! Ralsei here is not trying to engage or entertain you - he's not negotiating, he's not grandstanding. He's stonewalling you, stalling you out, whittling away your options one by one until you have no way out except the way he has offered you - and he does it all without lifting a single finger against you. And unless you're carrying some VERY specific items (or remember that the guard function exists I guess), you're completely stuck.

And THAT - is how Ralsei is better than Sans in every conceivable way shape and form and no I won't be taking any questions at this time byeeeeee *flees into the sunset while carrying my life-size Ralsei standee under my arm*
