Is this a safe space to say sometimes I fuck with a ship solely for the incest vibes? Like they are not biologically related but they were raised together/emotionally share a parent. Just people being so stitched together there is no one way to define their relationship, siblings don’t cut it anymore and lovers don’t feel close enough together

hmmm i can't really say i fuck with incest because i watched too much early 2000s anime as a kid to let that preference budge even a little, but i do share your fondness for characters with unlabellable relationships. like they're so intimately tied together at so many different points that trying to signal out just one of their connections completely undermines the web that is their dynamic. i don't ship them at all, but ciel and sebastion of black butler fame will probably always have one of my favorite overly complicated dynamics. just some real 'i know you better than you could ever know yourself. we've never really talked.' shit going on there.

last post complaining about genshin's writing for the month Anyway i think blorbofication happening in canon is the best way i could describe a lot of the problems i have with it ex. kaeya's relationship with diluc (or klee) is almost the only focus we get on him now, other than his brief appearance in the sumeru archon quest which was just saying his backstory basically with very little actual reaction or characterization on his part OR dainsleif's (also a problem i have in the albedo homunculus reveal in shadows amidst snowstorms). i haven't done his hangout because i. don't care enough to sit through an hour for each route with the quality of content hoyoverse puts out but looking at the ending options i feel like. they missed the opportunity to expand on things we already had for kaeya in favor of Oh he babysits klee! Oh albedo is here! Spend money to pull albedo!Venti cameo! What do you mean him and amber have a complicated dynamic. What do you mean he's apparently beloved by the elderly of mondstadt and the one who wraps up all the incidents there. What do you mean bennett trusts him as an omniscient big brother according to his official cn character profile. We made him talk to diluc again isn't that enough kaeya for you? and it sucks because kaeya feels like a rubik's cube with an onion's layers and like one of their best character personalities in content where he's actually kaeya and not just diluc's brother who is sad and also pretty! we never see anything about his relationship with jean, who he is the Most Trusted Aide of, or mondstadt at large! because every day we get closer to fanon kaeya being canon kaeya and it's just. You can have canon kaeya and fanon kaeya will follow but if fanon kaeya is at the forefront you're just immediately losing all that depth and it's going nowhere

Hoyofair reminded me of Ragbros and like,,

They grew up together! They were dumb little kids with so so much responsibility on each of their tiny shoulders. Diluc and Kaeya both had this whole family line trailing behind them, with all this history to contend with.

And it's weird because like,,, Diluc is in the thick of it. All this crushing pressure is present in his life from his dad and the Knights and even the everyday people of Mondstadt; they all have expectations for Diluc, even if they're not trying to force them onto him.

Meanwhile, Kaeya is totally separate from every responsibility. No one is around to have expectations of him - he has every single opportunity for a fresh start, if only he could bring himself to embrace it and leave his legacy behind.

But then on that day, when everything went wrong, Diluc loses his father and his place in the Knights and even chooses to leave Mondstadt. He sheds all those expectations and frees himself, as painful as it is, as much as he might not want to. But Kaeya tells Diluc everything, forcing there to be one other person who knows what he's supposed to do, who he's supposed to be. Kaeya can't cope with the decision - can't figure out how to start anew. So he makes Diluc make it for him. If one person knows who he is and tells him he doesn't have to be that person, then maybe Kaeya can let it all go.

Idk it's the parallels, it's the reversals, it's the tragic sibling bond destroying both of them.

Re-reading some of the earlier fanfictions does make me realize how far we've come regarding Diluc & Kaeya. Earlier fics showed them as colder and more ruthless, which I think I recall that being the consensus in the fandom at the time.

I might be alone in saying I miss that characterization. Perhaps it's not canon anymore, but it's what made me love them. There was so much to dissect there, so many thorns that hurt them and others. They both sacrificed themselves for others often and were messed up while they were at it. In my opinion, that characterization was so much more fun.

Nevertheless, characterization marches on. I still love these two with all my heart. Difficult not to.

kaeya going to fontaine now results in a sudden influx of customers lining up to buy diluc's brews, a few new partnerships offered to him out of nowhere and businesspeople suddendly growing curious about the dawn winery's gentleman.

because you bet your sweet ass that kaeya talks about his big brother a LOT. he has talked about luc so much, he has probably outright charmed some people with how happy he looked talking about master diluc's business that people have grown intrigued about the dawn winery's owner.

funniest part? he didn't meant to do that... not outright. it's probably the first time he has accidentally manipulated someone just by being his happy self and didn't realized the impact it had.

Personally, I think it was a spur of the moment kinda thing. Diluc let slip some words he did not completely mean in his fit of rage like "you don't belong here" or "never show your face here again" or something along those lines and Kaeya internalized it to the point he kicked himself out the winery

The staff knows they had a fight and Kaeya left but they don't know the details of it, whether Diluc officially kicked him out or if Kaeya left on his own volition. Diluc doesn't stop them treating Kaeya as they used to but doesn't really encourage them either. So it's more of a don't ask-don't tell typa thing going on

Diluc must have said something that Kaeya twisted(on purpose or subconsciously). All it would take is for anyone to say the wrong thing once, and Kaeya would take it and run with it (eg. his biological father's parting words to him).

What if Kaeya took Diluc's selling of their original mansion as a sign that Diluc didn't want him to stay there? Thus, the "throw me out" comment that went along with it... and in addition, Diluc's confusion about said comment because that was not what he intended when he sold said mansion.

Also i think that Adelinde and Elzer (if not the senior staff who were already there) must have known of their fight (with or without details) and yet of their own choice choose to treat Kaeya as still another master of the home and call him as such (did Diluc really not talk to them about it? Does he not care for it? Did the staff stand their ground on the matter? Or does he secretly support it and doesn't do any encouraging in front of Kaeya in case Kaeya activates his fight or flight response? We don't know their discussions while we are not around after all hnghh)

So like... the entirety of the senior staff of Dawn Winery are trained to keep their thoughts to themselves maybe?? Same with Crepus, Diluc, and Kaeya (coz wow did Crepus keep his secrets too)

tbh, Kaeya is such an unreliable narrator (due to his lies or misconceptions), while Diluc just doesn't talk at all (not in front of the traveler, to be specific). They're both two sides of the same coin where said coin is there to keep us guessing (coz its technically none of our business as the traveler HAHAHA)
