Tumblr media
I have been watching A New Wish and I really like it, like it's already so much better than the original tbh (or at least the later seasons)
Still don't like Butch Hartman though :/

Rich kid who likes to party and driver who picks them up all the time screams Nico and Jenson to me.
Nico who is the party princess of Monaco, always knows where a party is happening, has a permanent place on the VIP list of every club, can always get himself invited to a high class yacht party, and if all else fails knows at least three guys who own a brewery/winery and will open up for him, no matter what time it is, if he flutters his eyelashes.
Except, Nico's getting older now (I imagine this to be a 20-22 year old Nico). He's off at university most of the year and the people that he used to hang around with aren't necessarily the people that he wants to spend time with now. It's not that he can't party as hard any more, it's just that he doesn't want to. He still loves a good drink and a good time, but he's having fewer good times these days.
Then, one night after some particularly good alcohol, Nico gets into Jenson's car to head home, and for some unknown reason (the reason being that Nico finds Jenson unbelievably hot) he pours his heart out to him. And Jenson not only listens, but gives him good advice, and even though it should be the least meaningful interaction Nico's had all week, it means more to him than he can say.
Jenson's not there every night when Nico leaves a party, but he is there a lot, and every time Nico sees him, he rushes to get into his car, even pushing people out of the way to get there first, just so Nico can have a five minute conversation with the only person who actually listens to him. Eventually Jenson just gives Nico his number, and tells him to call if he wants to go home, promising that he will always come when Nico calls.
(I also feel like it would be really funny if Jenson wasn't actually a taxi/Uber driver, and was still a racing driver that Nico mistakes for a taxi while he's drunk. At first Jenson just thinks it's funny and that Nico is hot, but the more time they spend together, the more Jenson begins to like Nico. He actually looks forward to Nico's drunken rambling, and sees Nico for who he is: prissy and bitchy, yes, but also kind and funny and lonely)
Oh plss! Nico still being a twink but he is getting a little old for it all at the same time sksk. He is just struggling trying to find his place in the world when more people around him start getting into relationships or finding what they want to do eith their life and Nico has no idea yet.
Nico after a party just wanting to go home, a little tipsy but not thst satisfied, not like it used to be. He wants to find a taxi but it's busy but he sees a sleek car waiting and crawls in thinking it is one of them, or mistakes the car for his uber lol. Jenson being a little confused because he had just been to a press event nearby and was driving himself home, but guess he is driving this slightly tipsy party twink home now sksk
Nico finding himself venting and telling Jenson how he doesn't know what he wants in life and everyone else seems to have it together snd Jenson just smiles softly and offers advice and Nico is so touched🥺
They both thinkvthats the end of it, until Nico makes another mistake, more drunk and a little upset because a guy he liked kissed someone else and they end up taking a detour to McDonald's because Jenson SWEARS chicken nuggets and milkshakes heal broken hearts. Nico realising jenson isn't a cab driver and he is obviously super embarassed and even more so realising Jenson is an f1 driver and knows his dad lmaoo. But jenson offers his phone number to Nico in case he ever needs a ride in Monaco!
Jenson will happily go and pick Nico up if Nkco calls him, occassionally in his obnoxiously bright and ugly pyjama pants which make nico giggle like crazy ksks. He also often brings Nico a snack and some water and let's him vent, and Nico listens to him to! It's only when Jenson stsrts realising the calls are coming earlier, Nico doesn't seen thst tipsy anymore and no longer is a little sweaty from dancing thst he realises Nico doesn't even always go into the club anymore, he just wants Jenson, thst he finally asks Nico out and Nico ofc agrees!
Jenson picking Nico up at home with his car and Nico is adorably nervous as Jenson takes him to a fance restaurant but after Nico almost gagged on an oyster they go buy a bottle of wine and more chicken nuggets and eat it in the car aksksks

Same babe same 🥹🥹
I don't wanna raise a child rn cause I don't think I am mentally ready for one. My traumatized ass would literally make me a pain in the ass sometimes even though I Really Really want to be a mother. But I'd rather be childless than make my kids go through what I had to go through just because “I reALY wAnteD kIds 🥺” (my parents' words not mine)
But i really wanna do that pregnancy walk, holding my bump, talking to it and everything that involves pregnancy minus labour.
I'm not financially or emotionally ready to have a baby 😭💀💀💀
And in all honesty, I don't want kids until I'm well into my 30s because I want to live my life first
I also want to be rich by then so that I can have a nanny and house help and all that. I absolutely do not want to be a mother if I have to do all the work on my own 😤 I need and want help and I absolutely want to live a comfortable life 😌which is what I'm building towards 😌
But yeah somedays I just want to experience pregnancy (without labour or a baby) and hold my bump and go out with my husband and he'll cradle my belly and talk to it and I'll go to mommy yoga 🥺and I'll walk like a duck and have my pregnancy glow. wherever I go, I'll get special treatment bc of my big ole pregnant belly 🤣and everybody will know that someone loved me enough to put a baby in me 🥺and start a family with me 🥺 and I'll hold my husband's hand and we'll go on cute dates and everybody will congratulate us 🥺💛🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼

HII!!! HELLO!!! how are you babe? Sending you the ask and returning the favor! please infodump on me 💪💪💪
I've listed some specific ocs but honestly you can tell me everything about everyone and I'll listen happily
1 to Kai and Rae? 3 and 4 for Lauma and Nora? Ah! 10 for Kai! 17 and 18 for Eliza 😏 21 for Greg. 22 for Eliza and Nickole. 26 and 27 for Lauma again. Ah! 28 for Kai! 30 for Kai and Rae? Mmm and 34 and 35 for Pandora >:]
Many thanks, beloved mutual
Hii??? Hello? What are you doing in my house. I've never thought about any of this, actualy.
Lets...do improv then? Bonkers. o7
1. are they associated with a certain color? what color do they wear the most? (Kai and Rea)
Huh. Honest to god i'd have an answer for any other but these two. Both of them are shades of blue (diffrent kinds, Kai is so much more electrifying and Rea is more desaturated and warm for their species), as per their skin, but whenever i draw them i have to fight the urge to dress them in yellow.
So.
Rea is a honey mellon yellow, leaning into green like leaves in the coming of fall.
Kai is ether a cool (both terms apply) black or the same glow in the dark yellow as her eyes?
3. weapon of choice? any particular reason they chose their weapon? (Lauma Skujiņa, Nora Odera)
Lauma has her fists and a trust in her bones not to break and nothing else. (Her quirk, it's her quirk, she's shattering walls with it)
Nora? Nora Odera? Sickly insane lady? Babes, she takes a needle to her skin and carves at her own flesh. The only thing she's fighting is time. (Although you can argue that it's stuburnence)
4. how crafty/resourceful are they? (Lauma Skujiņa, Nora Odera)
For Lauma there is always some way to get out of a sittuation. Be it handeling awkward silence over coffee and cakes with people she dosn't realy know, or having to ease the quiet sobs of a child lerning to fear death while the weight of a building is on her sholders. She's lerned to go through most things with an ease and grace sometimes simply lerned in the moment.
Nora is...she's messy. Right below her surfice she is messy and volatile and so, so deeply tierd. Though, if you can give her enough time then anything can be taken care of. If she can be given the chance to stress over her short future to sickening detail, then she can give quick resolutions to issues after long thought.
10. if they wear jewelry, what kind? do they prefer silver or gold? do they have a favorite gem? (Kai)
Oh, big, big fan of jewlery. One of the few little things they're openly an enjoyer of. Got their ears pearced at the same time as the rest of the littles from their home, but unlike the rest, they continued getting little, cool metals for their ears. All hand made. By themselves or their sister or heirlooms from people before them. A good gift for them are rings that curl around the finger, which are, sure, not Practical (hard metals on your flesh in permanently cold places are an insane thought) but why else do you think teenagers stuff their full fists in their pockets?
17. how did they spend their summers/free time as a child? (Eliza Martins...oh boy :|)
Like a duckling she'd follow around Dick when both of them are home for summer. Cry when Bruce sudgested she go to some rich kid summer camps to skatch and paint and draw in pretty places with other kids. Things like that would never pan out. If obe of them had a specific camp they would genuenly enjoy (all of which Bruce did extensive reserch for), then both of them had to go. And if not tailing Dickie? She'd pick weeds and water gardens with Alfred, lern the little things only people with decades of expiriance can show.
18. their opinion on lying, stealing, and killing? (Eliza Martins)
Mmmmm....hmmmm....
Well.
Okay, this is something that has been bouncing around the back of my brain for however long i've had Eliza. So. So like. She had the same morals instiled as every bat. Of course she had. But, sadly, her morals do not matter in any of this. Never had. She functions on rules set for her by a being far older than time. She will do as things must be done and if she feels guilt or remorse-does not matter. This isn't an always thing. She is also put in situations where her best answer is the only one she's given, so it's not all always violence and murder from the get go. It's just that she wouldn't have a say in it if it was.
21. their favorite place to be? (Gred James)
Hm. His living room. Preferibly by himself. Preferibly with a warm tea and phisicaly heavy food. Preferibly in silence.
22. do they sleep well at night? (Nickole Moor, Eliza Martins<3)
Eliza is hit with the smell of home and a soft pillow and is out like a fucking light. No dreams, little nightmares. And if there are? Far too vivid to not be hounting in a way that only drains her more than she rests.
Nickole sleeps at odd hours. She has a genuen job, works actual hours (sure, she's in charge of them, but motherfucker needs shit to do to not go insane), so she should sleep more than she does. But there is always something to do. She likes doing things, she has passion for her craft, she knows that her cervices are needed for many in ways she may not even fuly know. So she works, late into the night. But her actual sleep? Bristles at any little sound and has nighmares and will call Jason at fucked hours if need be.
26. how do they move? are they clumsy? light on their feet? do they use mobility aids? (Lauma Skujiņa)
Lauma has truly buil herself for fighting. She is tall and she is lean. Controled hands and steady feet, so much of how she moves is so terribly aware. Things like that have been dictated by her quirk, things like that have been formed because of how her skin tugs at scars of past mistakes as she moves. Quiet reminders as to why she is like this now.
27. if applicable, do they have a favorite sport? do they play any sports or prefer to watch? (Lauma Skujiņa)
Too tall for football, too dissinterested in basketball. 👍
28. how do they show that they care about someone? how do they express that they don't like someone? (Kai)
With tough love. They bully their friends into taking care of themseles, drag them to bed, keep them under Kais body weight so they don't leave. They curl their tail around loved ones when something feels off, or when they've fallen asleep on their sholder. All little things, soft and small toutches full of radiating warmth, or tenderly hand crafted jewlery. Stuff as such.
30. do they smell like anything notable? (Kai and Rea)
I so, so genuenly do not know. Think of snowey hills and warm cotton socks, and the sent cats leave on beds. Maybe you'll get there.
34. how would your character describe themselves? it doesn't have to line up with how they really are. (Pandora)
She lies. Every new name a new story to weave. So little of who she is will ever be tangable in the words she's been using to tell about herself to whoever. A diffrent person gets a diffrent lie. All of them running so deep and so old that they may as well have shaped history.
35. do they ever return home? (Pandora)
It's no longer there. It never again will be.

I just remembered something. Now like most lower middle class children, I was also the one brought up with hindi movies, songs and ofc hindi serials. Now, I was all 12 when for the first time i was studying in one of those posh schools in kolkata. The area where the school wasn't that posh but the children definitely were. Bmws, businessmen, surgeons doctors, club owners, ameeron ke bache.
So i have met showoff kids who show their money and status discreetly like they will be your friends, give you notes, share tiffin but also in a way show you that you aren't rich. And i also met some realy rich kids who could afford partying at expensive hotels, but God they were so humble and down to earth.
That was when I had learnt how to fit in. Now my friends were the ones who from the start watched English comedies, knew the lyrics to English pop songs and watched web series.
For me the concept of web series, Netflix etc started in kolkata when I was 13-14. I would see the photos of their colonies and all and would go damn I want to live like them too.
Now to fit in I began watching those English movies and songs I trained my ears to understand the words because for the first time when you hear them it feels like a rap song at least that's what it was for me. Soon after a couple of months I learnt how to understand those lyrics without captions and stuff and could sing that. In free periods in my old schools we used to sing hindi songs retro to modern, here it went bieber, ed Sheeran, Taylor and all those. I went with the same now. I remember ny 8th grad winter vacation where I was learning their lyrics.
Now my friend had invited me to her birthday party. My brother was anyway angrez from rhe start so everyone consented to watch some old English comedy series
And boy I felt so awkward because I saw them clutching their stomach and laughing while there was me trying to find where was the joke -
I only focused on having 2 pieces of pizza for that entire show lol. I trained how to pick up English songs but not the jokes.
Somehow I ended up liking no loving 1d which started out again as a way to fit in with the others and now I have fell out of it.
You know being with them around them I too wanted to live their kinda lifestyle. Rich homes, big rooms, parties and events, those clothes and stuff, money outings. I was young and kehte hai na bahar ka dekh ke chaka chaundh hona?
But now I have lost all that interest I once had. Sure I want money and a good lifestyle but not that. Now that I am growing I see how many of them are shallow on the inside. With money clothes parties they don't see anything beyond it it's like a glittery cover on the outside.
And once again I found myself after I was separated from the school and the community. I can't enjoy Friends Or The Office. I cannot understand those sit coms shows like they must be good but not something for me. Taylor and other pop singers and other ones I do find them interesting and ofc talented in their respective fields, but yeah that's not for me.
I actually like this lower middle class life. I have been brought up living with uncertainty and maybe that's why I was taught to live in the present. For some time it was good in those bright rich homes, rich friends, shine and sparkles, but I feel much at home with niche baith ke khana, local dukano mein shopping aur hindi serials ka mazak bannate huye bhi aage ke episodes pe hooked rehna. Many of my friends ask me why are you so devi dharmik types because you talk about gods, wear Indian clothes and are all traditional when the world is advancing india too.
Bhai these are my roots my values and the way I was brought up. There's nothing wrong in either of those lifestyles. Mera gaon kahin andar odisha mein hai papa mere jis gaon school se the vahan ab tak bijli nahi aati. I like this simplicity that we live with. And dharmik devi stuff isn't my entire personality meri choice hai I don't like going out to parties and clubs and go around calling every boy and girl my bestie, babes, darling when I see them only once.
And middle class vale bich ke phasse hote hai ameer bhi gareeb bhi dono inme hai. You learn many things while growing up in a middle class family.
Bahut gyan de diya mein jaati ab padhne

Grim thoughts about the Titan, don't read if that's not your cup of tea
It's was a slow day at work so of course my mind kept going to the Titan and the people inside. Also I probably consumed too many stephen king stories, but i wonder what they are doing if they are realy still alive right now. they know that the air will last only a few more hours. At least if they are 5. Again, don't continue reading if you do not want to think about this.
I am 99% sure that if they are ''just'' lost or stuck and have to wait for rescue, and there wasn't a leak or a murder or an accident that killed them already... they must have discussed the possibility to try to save at least someone from the group. Or keep someone alive for as long as possible. Do you think it's the kid? do you think the biggest ego already killed the rest to preserve oxygen for as long as possible? Did they already suffocate because they kept arguing about it instead of trying to safe air?
What would you do? like for me it would be obvious to try to save everyone by briefly discussing it and then shutting up, holding hands, and try to wait it out. i don't know if they have a timer, if any of the equipent still works or if they are completely in the dark. but i hope they have at least one watch that is working and something to give them light.
Maybe they are floating on the surface. But still trapped and running out of air because they can not open the thing themselves.
But what if no ones is comming? Is the Father going to volunteer to get strangled first so his son might survive on the additional hours of air? Are they going to draw sticks? are they making deals and try to get saved by the money they have?
What if they find it and there is only one survivor who killed the rest? Who would it most likely be? The ceo? The father? The kid? The specialist? The billionair "adventurer"?
Maybe someone just went mad in there.
What if they survive and learn something from it? I think chances are small and even smaller for them to change for the better. And i would bet that if they get out, they will not wait for a week before they get book and movie deals to make them even richer. it's billionairs. they will monetize their horrors if they can make money from it. at least that way i will get my questions and my morbid curiosity answered.
Idk man, a lot of people have already put it into words. I don't *wish* for their death. Not like this. If anything i would wish that the sub just imploded suddenly. I hope this is what happened. A quick death for billionairs, i can live with that. The fish can eat the rich.
Most of all I'm just baffled by the hubris and enormous stupidity of every new detail we find out. I would feel similar if billionairs who paid to pet a Gorilla got thorn apart instantly. Like.. what did you expect? That somehow the whole world is playing by your rules because you can usually change the rules with your money?
Anyway. I am looking forward to when we know what happened. Because they will find them sooner or later. And i hope we get the details. Either from the news or from the movie that will be made about this. I will read the plot on Wikipedia

Most brutal way you've killed someone?
CW for gore and murder
"Hmm, I need to think about that..." Tilting his head, he thoughtfully tapped the side of his mask.
"I think I'll have to settle for Thanksgiving, 1991. George Miller, a basic name for an outstanding man. He was a father of two kids, married to a wonderful woman. They did a lot of charity work and helped many people, but beneath the facade of the perfect family, he was involved in some dirty money making shemes and his wife a cheater. Both of their sons grew up bullying others and demanding more and more from their parents. Spoiled little brats."
A dark chuckle escaped the Ghostface as he basked in the memory of the night he'd make their lives hell. "This design required a lot of patience and preperation, but it paid off in the end. It went down as one of my most memorable murders and it was in the news for weeks, if not months. I drugged all four of them, tying the wife and the boys to chairs around the dining table while the man of the house was sprawled out on the table top, tied down so he couldn't move. When they woke up again, of course they started begging me to let them live, offering me money and riches, but at this point people should realy know that I don't back down from a kill."
"You see, Thanksgiving is all about being grateful, and since these brats had been on my list anyway and their design happened to fall onto this very holiday, I decided to make it a bit themed. They wanted a feast? I'd give them one, and their father would provide for it." Oh, how he wished he had his photo's from before the fog with him right now. It had been a lovely family dinner that night, filled with wonderful screams and blood and guts everywhere.
"I used their cleaver and started to hack away at Mr. Miller while he was still alive and awake, his sons and wife screaming at me to stop while I was monologuing to them about how grateful they should be. I was careful to not kill the man quickly, I wanted him to feel it when I cooked his flesh with their blow torch and watch as I fed it to his family. He died from bleeding out way too soon for my liking, but at least that meant I could not get to hacking his intestines and sprawling them out for his family to see. One of the boys wouldn't stop insulting me, so I stuffed his mouth with his father's liver, that shut him up at least. The rest of the Miller family went out being gutted and decorated with their insides. Set them up for a nice family dinner photo that didn't even make it into the newspaper for being too gruesome, even with all the censoring they did. This kill kicked off a theory of me being a cannibal, but I can assure you, I only ever tasted human flesh once and I am not interested in doing it again."

I'd like to think they get better with time XD in game there 17 so very much still kids. I'd think 10 years after the game, they'd still be phyco but also more adjusted and mature. Floyd would still squeeze people who broke the contract, but azul would actually make good contracts. None of the shady shit that no one can complete. And Jade will still be a mushroom addicts is more open on how he is. ( punk jade punk jade punk jade ) they definitely took over their family's "bissness," so still spill blood, but for my own sanity, they don't do the extreme shit their work is known for. Floyd would still bully, but it was not as bad. Mainly goes after scumbag since there are the ones who either fight back or plead the most. He can't be bought, so if they are rich and usually pay to get out of jail, their money would mean nothing to him.
And as for the mafia part.... eh????? I hate that it's shit that acualy happens and I can't realy see them doing some of that. There out of the box guys. Maybe they'd go equalizer at some point????? That's probably but hope though
Yeah, I get the whole being a kid thing, but if you're not making any actions to better yourself at 17, you're probably still gonna be a douche at 25 or whatever. Not seeing them in the mafia thing... they're basically the fish mafia, my guy
Sure, MAYBE they'll get better, but with their personalities and what we know, the line they're going down isn't fantastic. Maybe Azul decides he doesn't need the contract system anymore if he expands Mostro Lounge enough to be an enterprise, maybe he keeps it up because he's the definition of greedy
Idk, I write them all a decade older anyways because I don't write kids and I literally thought the place was a COLLEGE, where people basically any age after high school can go. I don't feel like it changes too much personality-wise. Hell, I've come across 36 year olds that still act like high-schoolers because unless you're putting in time and effort to better yourself, it's not gonna happen
Contrary to popular belief, you don't just mature and become responsible once you hit 18 at midnight. I still feel as lost and clueless as I did in High School, just with a lot more responsibilities over the years

Hot Soup and Soft Bread 5
Synopsis and Table of Contents <- Chapter 4 Read on WordPress here
Chapter 5: Chocomonts V
Zhong Qiuyan called Zhou Cunqu and said, “Try coming down by yourself. I’ll be waiting for you downstairs.”
Cunqu held his phone in one hand and his umbrella in another and stood still outside the door. Qiuyan continued, “I won’t hang up the call. Just remember, I’ll be waiting for you downstairs.”
Cunqu looked down at the stairs in front of him that stretched onto what seemed like the depths of a cave. The faint scent of rain lingered in the air. The sound of Qiuyan’s breaths sounded from the other end of the call. Cunqu slowly walked down the stairs.
Qiuyan asked him: “Do you see the ‘Amiability makes you rich’ yet?”
Cunqu said: “I see it.”
Qiuyan asked again: “And have you passed by the shoe rack outside Teacher Zhuang’s place?”
Cunqu didn’t reply immediately. Qiuyan waited a bit, and then Cunqu said: “I see it.”
Just like that, he slowly descended to the first floor. Qiuyan, holding the phone, gave him a big thumbs up. Cunqu felt a bit exhausted. Qiuyan supported him and said, “You did well. Our little friend[1] Zhou Cunqu did so well.”
Building No.3’s flickering entrance light suddenly dimmed. Cunqu, body stripped of energy, leaned his head against Qiuyan’s shoulder. The latter didn’t dare to move. He moved Cunqu slightly closer to himself and held his waist.
Qiuyan suddenly really wanted to know something. Zhou Cunqu said he liked men. Then has he been with men before? What were their kisses like? What about even more intimate contact? He couldn’t picture it.
Qiuyan let his imagination run wild for quite some time as he hugged Cunqu. Then he suddenly mumbled, “When I lived in the countryside, I quite liked this one girl who grew up with me. Now her kid is old enough to ride my bus.”
Cunqu, confused, made an “en” sound to show he was listening. Qiuyan let go of him and awkwardly rubbed his hair, saying, “It’s nothing.”
Cunqu said: “You, you’re not very capable then.”
Qiuyan was caught off guard for a moment. He then rebuffed: “What do you mean I’m not capable? Plenty of girls liked me. Qiu Xuemei, my mom, said that I rank as one of the most handsome men in the village.”
Cunqu replied: “Aunt Qiu must be very kind.”
Recently, Qiuyan discovered that ever since Cunqu could speak to him more and more fluently, the latter started to exhibit similarities to his grandma Liu Xiaoying. Regardless of whether it’s the open mocking or the backhanded sarcasm.
Cunqu had walked a bit ahead by himself. Qiuyan chased after him and grabbed his hand. He spread out his fingers and started playing with them as he asked: “Ge, what were you trying to say just now.”
Cunqu didn’t pay him any regard.
--
A couple of days later, it was only Liu Xiaoying and Zhou Cunqu having dinner together. Xiaoying said that Qiuyan called earlier saying he was off today and was meeting up with some friends. She held her red and white senior-friendly phone and replied: “You realy are treating my place like your own, huh? Even going as far as reporting you’re not going to make it for dinner.”
Qiuyan whined in a spoiled tone, “Liu Xiaoying. Starting from today you are my Second Grandma!”
Xiaoying scolded: “What first grandma, second grandma, you brat!”
In conclusion, that night there were 4 dishes on the dining table but only Xiaoying and Cunqu were present for dinner. Xiaoying said: “That youngster went out to see his friends.”
Cunqu nodded and picked up some celtuce with his chopsticks.
Qiuyan’s two childhood friends, a hairdresser apprentice named Da Yu[2] and a car mechanic A’Shan[3] wanted to hold a belated birthday celebration for him. The three of them grew up together in the same village; None of them did well in school and just fooled around all day. A’Shan never liked talking ever since he was little. He remembered when he was in the first grade of kindergarten[4], his mom had left him at the entrance of the kindergarten by the village supermarket. He held a pillow in his arms and squatted unmoving in the front of the building, refusing to budge even when a teacher came out to grab him.
A few of the other kids thought they were playing tug of war, and rushed in excitedly to participate. The teacher, a bit angered, asked in the regional dialect: “Just what are you doing here?”
Large droplets of tears fell with a splatter from A’Shan’s eyes. He cried, “I want to stay here and be a tree.”
Zhong Qiuyan and Da Yu, who were in the second grade of kindergarten then, ran over with excitement and squatted next to him. They asked him eagerly: “How? How? We want to be a tree as well!”
And so the three of them dumbly squatted there for half the day, resembling three mushrooms sprouting from some moss. This continued until Qiuyan asked A’Shan: “Can we turn back to humans for a bit?”
A’Shan nodded. The other two stood up, relieved.
The kindergarten teacher declared that year -- the three of them didn't have much prospects. If they did, she wouldn’t be surnamed Zhong.[5] The funny thing is, apparently this teacher found her birth parents later on and actually changed her last name from Zhong to theirs. But as prophesied, the three of them didn’t grow up to make anything of themselves.
--
A’Shan cracked open a few cans of beer and clinked his can against Qiuyan’s and Da Yu’s. Although Da Yu’s name meant “Big fish”, he physically resembled a small shrimp. He asked Qiuyan: “Your eyebags are gonna droop onto the ground. You haven’t been around recently either. Do you actually drive buses or did you secretly go off to steer a rocket?”
The open-air food stall[6] didn’t have that many customers at dusk. The female boss placed two large platters of barbecued meat skewers on their table. Qiuyan drank half a can of beer and replied, “You won’t know.”
Da Yu let out a “ha” in response. Qiuyan suddenly asked them: “Hey, would you guys be able to stay in your room for two years? And never go outside?”
A’Shan replied: “Isn’t that like spending 2 years in prison?”
Qiuyan chewed on the empty skewer stick, muttering: “Right… Just what kind of thing, would hurt someone so much that they shut themselves up for two years…”
Da Yu probed again: “Zhong Qiuyan, just what have you been up to recently?”
Qiuyan replied the same way. “You wouldn’t understand.” But to be honest, he didn’t understand either.
That day after midnight, Zhou Cunqu slowly walked past “Amiability makes you rich,” slowly walked past Teacher Zhuang’s place, and saw a broken Go board fallen outside of the “double yolk egg” grandpas’ door. When he reached the first floor, he didn’t see Qiuyan. Cunqu immediately felt uneasy. He clutched the long handle of his umbrella and stood stiff in front of the entrance at a loss of what to do. The past couple of days whenever he made it to the first floor, he would always see Qiuyan leaning against the security door. And when Qiuyan saw Cunqu, he’d wave him over and feed him a piece of Chocomont. Yesterday Qiuyan stuffed a fish-shaped cracker[7] instead into his mouth, then he asked: “Aren’t you surprised?” Cunqu was speechless but also amused.
Cunqu took out his phone and dialed his “Smart Assistant.” Qiuyan answered and said, “Come out.”
So for the first time, Cunqu pushed open the security door by himself and walked out onto the entry path of Building No.3. He walked alone down the narrow path, damp from a recent downpour of rain. The world was silent enough that he could hear the sound of his heartbeat. He was thirty-one years old, yet he was terrified of taking a short walk downstairs by himself.
When he finally reached the main entrance of the residential community, he saw Qiuyan standing just outside, holding half a cigarette in one hand. He reached out with his other hand to pull him over. He pulled him outside of Qin Qin Homeland. Cunqu stood still for a moment to process what happened, then he said to Qiuyan: “Give me a cigarette.”
The two of them stood smoking on the side of Breadfruit Tree Street[8]. Cunqu squinted his eyes, inhaled the cigarette smoke, and exhaled towards the ground. “The last time I was on this street,” he said, “it was raining heavily. That was two years ago.” He turned his head and smiled at Qiuyan: “Thank you.”
Qiuyan smiled in response. He drank with Da Yu and A’Shan until nearly midnight, then hailed a cab and hurried directly here. Cunqu said that his entire body smelled of alcohol. Qiuyan purposely clung onto him, saying: “Now you can smell too.”
Cunqu pushed him: “Really?”
Suddenly, Qiuyan reached out and hugged Cunqu. He tended to slur his speech after he drank a lot. One sentence slurring into the next, he quietly said: “Liu Xiaoying said that you used to be a super impressive person. Me and my friends, we’re just a bunch of barely-getting-by not-too-impressive ordinary people. So I won’t know if being a super impressive person is a super tiring thing. But I think it probably is, right? Are you tired?”
Cunqu leaned against Qiuyan’s embrace and gazed listlessly across the street at the newspaper stand closed for the night. Before he realized it, tears had uncontrollably trickled down his face and fallen onto the yellow-green bricks of the sidewalk.  -> Chapter 6 Footnotes [1] He uses 小朋友 here, which literally translates to “little friend,” usually used to refer to kids. His entire tone here is that of commending a little kid for doing something well lol. But not in a condescending way, it’s more like a half-joke half-endearment. (If you guys read Fake Slackers, He Chao calls Xie Yu this all the time haha) [2] Likely a nickname, Da Yu literally translates to Big Fish (大鱼) [3] Same for A’Shan, which is the character for mountain(山) and an “A” (阿)in front of it. The “A” itself holds no meaning and is a common prefix before monosyllabic names to make them easier to say or just to indicate familiarity [4] Kindergarten in China is divided into 2 or 3 grades. 小 (small), 中 (medium), 大 (big) 班 (class). US Kindergarten maps to the highest grade 大班 , where kids between ages 5-6 attend. While for the two lesser grades they’re more comparable to preschool, with kids starting as early as 3 years old. [5] This is a pretty common saying to indicate you’re absolutely confident in what you’re declaring, as confident as you are in knowing your own last name. Sidenote, the character for the teacher's last name "Zhong" here is the same as the one for Zhong Qiuyan, but it’s a pretty common last name, and it’s probably even more common given that they're in the same countryside village. [6] An open-air food/drinking location that’s usually bustling later at night. The type of food is usually (unhealthy but delicious) street food like skewers, or just anything that goes well with drinks.  [7]  He actually refers to the specific brand of the crackers here -- 好多鱼. But I can’t figure out if there’s an English name for this brand. It literally translates to “A lot of fish.” [8] I didn’t know this but breadfruit trees were an actual type of tree! They produce, you guessed it, “breadfruit” which when cooked “is described as potato-like, or similar to freshly baked bread”. And the street right outside of Qin Qin Homeland is named after this tree.

If anyone else loves this concept as much as me -
This is an excerpt from one of my fics that explores it a little. It’s Gothamites chatting about Red Hood in the comments section of a video. All typos are intentional since, you know, it’s meant to be the comments section 😝
(Full fic here: On The Record)
“Is Max talking about the Queer Youth Centre on Birch Street? It doesn’t say it in the video but it used to be really rundown and shitty, and sometimes they’d have protesters out the front with signs about how they were corrupting kids and all that bullshit.
“So I dunno how Red Hood found out about it but one day there were heaps of really muscly looking dudes just standing around outside the centre and everyone was like uhhhh ok? And it turned out that the muscly guys were part of Hood’s crew, and they were there to make sure anyone feeling scared to go into the centre or intimidated by the protesters or whatever would have protection. I don’t know if many people outside Crime alley know about that.”
“Is that real? That’s so awesome!”
“Yeah there’s a clip of someone being escorted in, and they form a guard around them and make sure they get inside okay. [link]”
“That’s so fucking cool”
“I’m actually tearing up, that’s so incredible”
“What a cool bunch of dudes. Is Red Hood hiring? I’m not as buff as those guys but I’d be happy to yell at some bigots.”
“I think Red Hood has business cards that he gives out. If you’re serious, it’s worth asking around to see if anyone can get in touch. Otherwise just show up at the place, can’t hurt?”
“Maybe we hsouldn’t be encouraging people to go to the centre and stand around, that could be scary for some young kids who are feeling vulnerable already.”
“Good point, maybe I’ll leave this to the pros for now. It’s such a good initiative though.”
“The centre’s website is listed in their bio links if you want to see if they need volunteers.”
“Ignorant question because I’m not from Gotham, but I thought that Bruce Wayne was fixing up all the infrastructure and putting money into jobs and housing and homeless shelters and everything? Just from what I’ve seen on the news, it looked like he was fixing it all.”
“It’s WAY bigger than one person, even a billionaire.”
“Bruce Wayne doesn’t know what poor people need. He means well but he’s never been poor and he’s making decisions in a boardroom with other rich guys.”
“Yeah, it doesn’t always funnel down to the little guy.”
“My Red Hood Story: My cousin had to go to the police station to give a statement after some family shit got ugly. Restraining orders were filed, it’s all good now, but she was seven and had to go in to tell the police what she saw.
“She was so scared obviously and didn’t want to go into the station, so her mom was pleading with her outside to just go in and get it over with, trying to bribe her with ice cream or toys or whatever. I don’t know why but Red Hood was there and he sees what’s going on and he comes over and takes off his helmet, and just squats down next to my cousin who’s basically having a panic tantrum.
“My aunt’s shellshocked so she doesn’t really do anything because this is RED FUCKING HOOD, what the fuck. And he just asks my cousin questions about what grade she’s in and he sees that she’s got a Minecraft t-shirt, so he talks to her about that for a bit. And my aunt’s just sitting there with her brain exploding because Red Hood’s talking about Minecraft. He was wearing an eye mask apparently but my aunt was still not sure if she was allowed to look because it was daytime and he never realy takes off the mask.
“He ended up carrying my cousin into the station (he asked my aunt if it was okay first obviously) and he waited with my aunt the whole time my cousin was giving her statement.
“I feel like every Red Hood story online is like, “And then he shot all the bad guys!” or “And then he punched them so hard they exploded!” so maybe this is really boring by comparison. But my family thinks it’s really cool. :P”
You know that story about a motorcycle gang that, essentially, adopts child abuse victims? Like, they go to court with them, stand guard outside their houses, and even make them little jackets?
Imagine Jason, who didn't have the best childhood, who always looks out for the kids of crime Alley (enough so one of his huge rules is "don't deal to kids or I deal with you") and his people catch onto this, yknow
Yeah. That's Red Hood gang fs.
Some of them are only there because Red Hood is the new top dog, sure, but some are also there because they like working under Red Hood. He's really not a terrible guy once you get past the 8 heads in a duffle bag!
And so I think, it wasn't Red Hood himself that started going to child abuse court cases and standing guard around their house at night first, but rather his men. It wasn't something he ordered them to do, and it wasn't ever explicitly brought up, but I Red Hood seamlessly integrated this new little division into his Crime Lord activities.
There was a schedule for who was on Crime stuff, and who got to beat the shit out of little Maxwell's abusive shitbag dad.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

you have gotta tell me all your sasha headcanons you write her so well
hiiihiiii hiii thnk you sm ;;-;;!! shes my favorite to write like seriously shes my <3 whole heart
- i hc her as autistic ofc :) i think she'd be nonverbal as a kid + esp until she's stable with Fiona and Felix in Hollowpoint. Fiona's very defensive of her 'quirks' C: she likes to stim through music :)
- more atlas au but! she's the gun expert who helps rhys with designing a lot of atlas machinery. There's no way in hell that rhys knew how a gun worked to the degree he does in bl3 without a literal gun expert aka SASHA! so yeah, she's definitely in a way the cofounder of atlas but prefers to be more lowkey abt it. :)
- Timothy's obviously her lab partner at Atlas and they get along SO WELL!!! It helps that Timothy loves Fiona too cus in my atlas au on ao3 shes the one who gets him to atlas :)
- She's terrified of a lot of household animals (cats, dogs) because yknow pandora, but she def gets used to the non lethal aspect and eventually her and rhys get a dog :3
- A lot of Promethea is... really scary to her. and not in the usual physical way but life is so different that she has a rough adjustment period in which she kinda questions a lot. she sees all these fancy business couples and rich lifestyle and she just cannot figure it out. rhys helps a lot with reassuring her and you know- he married her for her.
- She's frankly Rhys' rock when it comes to a lot of his pretty bad anxiety. he's got some pretty bad seperation anxiety so she goes out of the way to make sure he knows where she's at if she leaves Atlas + goes out with fiona to another planet or smthn. He also isn't realy left alone often to begin with :)
- omg. sleep anxiety. she tries to play it cool but she cant really sleep alone with rhys around cus he makes her feel soooo so safe. she tends to try and wait up for him on late nights because he makes it so much easier to fall asleep ;- ;

A story for my students and my MUTUALS
So yesterday i took a huge, huge chance and it really turned out amazing.
Although I have written a lot about the suicide of my former student, Anahi who killed herself at age 13 and whom I loved dearly, I have not spoken much aloud.
But yesterday was not only the last day of school before Thanksgiving Break, it was also the last day of school before going virtual again (which we’ve needed to do for months b/c there are so many kids in our school out with covid, and half the office staff was out with covid last month).  And last year when we left for Spring Break we had no idea we weren't  coming back and I wasn’t able to say goodbye to my students.
I have the best homeroom.  I have 3 brilliant students that really could have skipped this grade and gone on to middle school.  I have two unbelievably great artists who already draw like they have years more experience than they do.  I have some kids with huge hearts that help with with the special needs boy (who is a doll himself but will never understand anything over kindergarten level).  And with everything that is going on, I felt I realy had to say something.
So I asked them to listen to a story (and they actually did listen which was pretty epic considering how hyper the other classes wereO.
I said “I want to tell you a story about a student I had.  I will caller Annie.   She was a great student.  She was smart. I never had to tell her to behave in class.  She took the best notes, she loved to sing and she would come to my desk to sing me songs, and she always told me I was her favorite teacher.  And I loved her.  Her parents were killed in a car accident when she was six and she was adopted into a rich family.  They loved her very much, but she never felt like she was loved, she never felt like she fit in or that anyone paid attention to her.   She had a brother, he was handseom, funny, and super popular.  When they were together, everyone paid attention to her brother and no one noticed she was there.  But she loved her brother and her brother loved her.
She left school, went on to the next school and I saw her a few times in town after that.  But one day in June my phone rang and I thought it was the STAAR scores.  I answered and I was told Anni had killed herself.  She was only 13.
And it hurt so bad because I ....I didn’t do enough.  I didn’t hug her enough, I didn’t hell her I loved her enough.   And it wasn’t the first time I lost someone I loved, it wasn’t even the first time someone I loved committed suicide.  But I loved her so much and she didn’t know that.
So.... I know you guys are going home to your families and I don’t know what your family situation is. but in case no one tells you this week...I LOVE YOU.  You are my kiddos and I love you no matter what.  And if bad things are going on, please, please please do not kill yourselves.   I know, I tried to kill myself when I was 13, but I made it, and there was nothing special about me.  I was a weak, powerless doormat, but I made it.
After I finished 3 girls were crying.  I went to each of them and each of them told me they had been thinking of killing themselves and felt the same way Anahi did.  And the entire class was spent with me sitting with each of them, hearing their stories and hugging them tight and promising they would eventually be okay. (fuck covid)   One boy came up and tole me he had tried to kill himself last year when his father walked out on his family.  I hugged him and told him I was glad he was here.
I told them of all my “foster kids” from the mall and told them I loved them all and would be there always even if I wasn’t still at the same school or the same town.
So I say to you now:  If no one tells you “I love you” this holiday week and month, I love you.  You’re a good person.  You belong here.
Have a great week, friends

It’s Ridiculous: The Story Behind Fast 9’s Mid-Engine, Hellcat-Powered ’68 Dodge Charger
You can only ask this question in the context of a Fast and Furious film: How do you top a ’68 Dodge Charger with a jet engine in the trunk? Easy—a ’68 Charger with a Hellcat in the back seat. How does a Hellcat engine, even one tuned to Demon specification like this one, top a jet engine? Because it’s real.
That’s right, kids, the jet engine sticking out the back of the “Ice Charger” in 2017’s Fate of the Furious was just a prop. The car was powered by a Chevy LS3 V-8 pushed back under the dashboard to make room for an all-wheel-drive system. Cool stuff, but the mid-engine Charger is the real deal.
At least, two of them are.
“We actually built nine,” says Dennis McCarthy, picture car coordinator at Universal. His shop, Vehicle Effects, built the cars for the past seven Fast films and for the Hobbs & Shaw spinoff.
“Now, when I say we built nine, they’re not all identical,” he explains. “There’s two of them that were built with the mid-engine design and the transaxle. The rest, the name of the company leaves me at the moment, but there’s a company that makes a plastic Hellcat motor. So the rest of them have the [fake] plastic motor in place. And we actually used an LS3 with a manual-shifted Turbo 400 automatic and a Ford 9-inch rearend for our stunt cars that we just use and abuse. But yeah, a total of nine cars, two different platforms. I’d say four and a half months, they were all done and headed off to different countries.”
The hero cars, the ones actors drive in close-up shots, have real Hellcats and actually run. Mopar provided the standard 707-hp crate engines, and McCarthy had them brought to Demon spec with a pully and a 110-octane race-gas tune from Performance Tech, the shop that tunes all the Fast movie cars. The now 800-plus-hp motors were mated to six-speed manual Graziano transaxles lifted from Lamborghini Gallardos.
“I feel that the clutch pedal is a key ingredient to the cool factor,” McCarthy says. “In my opinion, it just has to be that way. An automatic just wouldn’t have the same impact.”
Rich Waitas at Magnaflow built a full custom exhaust with custom headers that route up and over the transaxle and dump out of hidden tips behind the rear bumper. With no engine up front and no room left for the original under-trunk gas tank, Vehicle Effects mounted an 8-gallon fuel cell under the hood. The classic chrome gas cap on the passenger front fender is functional on the mid-engine cars, making trips to the gas station more like filling up a Porsche than a Dodge.
Also under the hood is a high-angle rack-and-pinion power steering setup to enable big drifts. That and the transaxle necessitated a custom fully independent suspension at all four corners, and it gives the front-engine stunt cars a tell: the live rear-axle pumpkin hanging down. That is, if you can get low enough to see it.
“I’m always into the lowest stance possible [for the cars],” McCarthy says. “I might have gone a little too far on this one. It’s definitely the lowest Charger we’ve ever put together, which is great. It looks awesome. But sometimes you get that high-center issue going in and out of the driveway with such a long-wheelbase car. But for a movie car, that’s great; for a daily driver, you’d probably want to raise it up a couple of inches.”
All these pieces are fitted to a custom chassis built by Wisconsin-based SpeedKore Performance, which also created the carbon-fiber widebody to go over the top. The Charger Daytona roofline and rear glass were chosen both to clear the Hellcat engine and to show it off. The body and chassis were modified to stretch the wheelbase nearly 6 inches by moving the front axle forward, mostly because McCarthy doesn’t like the big front overhang featured on early Chargers. Deep-dish HRE wheels fill out the fat fenders and hide modern Brembo disc brakes.
“It’s without a doubt the fastest Charger we’ve built,” McCarthy says. “There have been a lot of Chargers that look like they have 1,000 horsepower; this one in reality is probably the highest horsepower Fast and Furious Charger ever built.”
Replacing the rear seat with a supercharged V-8 requires a lot of interior modification. A metal and plexiglass divider helps reduce some of the heat and noise coming into the cabin, which is sparse but functional. McCarthy took design inspiration from the Ford GT40, going so far as to incorporate brass rings in the seat covers. The bucket seats are adjustable, with tools, and don’t have headrests for a period feel. Between them is, of course, a NOS bottle for the inevitable scene where even more acceleration is necessary to save the day. A flat instrument panel with simple analog gauges and toggle switches, plus a steel three-spoke steering wheel, completes the old-school look.
“The tricky thing is always trying to come up with something new,” McCarthy acknowledges, “because there’s only so many ways you can build a Charger, and we’ve done most of them. And on top of that, not only have we built numerous Chargers in different styles, but we’ve used the Nelson Racing Engines Charger, that unpainted Charger, we’ve borrowed other Chargers from SpeedKore, so there’s a long list of Chargers that have been featured in the franchise over the years.
“Like I said, it’s always trying to come up with something new. When I was at SEMA, the SpeedKore guys were showing me what they were working on, which looked pretty badass. And then, I don’t know who owns this car, so I can’t give him credit for it, but there was a Mustang—I want to say it was maybe a ’71ish Mustang—that had a mid-engine setup in it, which was very impressive. I don’t want to take credit for other people’s ideas, but I get a lot of ideas at SEMA. One thing led to another, and I just decided that’s something we haven’t done yet. Let’s move the motor to a new location.”
The work is surprisingly clean considering McCarthy and a team of seven had only those four and a half months to build all nine cars from scratch. And really, it was Jonny Miller and Brian Gogerty who did most of the work on the mid-engine cars while the rest of the team built the stunt cars or moved back and forth between builds.
“As always, our biggest challenge is just trying to get it done in time,” McCarthy says. “Guys are working on the car for sometimes 14, 15 hours a day, and trying to keep sane for weeks and weeks and weeks on end. But they have a lot of practice. And obviously these were extremely labor-intensive cars to build. You talk to a guy, for instance at SEMA, who built a car, they’ll go, ‘Oh, we worked on it for three or four years.’ We’ll build 180 cars in five months. It’s a whole different style of building cars, but the nice thing is you don’t have to get each door gap exactly perfect. So there are some advantages. But they do have to perform and be reliable. And they were very reliable; they had no problems during filming. They fired right up every time.”
It’s an important consideration when a custom star car can make or break a shooting schedule. At one point, the two mid-engine cars were simultaneously in Glasgow, Scotland, and Tbilisi, Georgia, shooting different scenes. These are places you don’t just buy Dodge parts at the local shop.
Despite all the travel and shooting, the hero cars came back in near-perfect condition.
“I was adamant with the guys,” McCarthy says. “Don’t kill the mid-engine car. They both came back unscathed. No damage, nothing. It was great. And that’s not normal. Usually even the cars I don’t want to get damaged end up getting damaged one way or another.”
That’s good for a lot of reasons, not least of which because the cars have a lot of traveling left to do. They’ll split up again and ship around the world on a promotional tour for Fast 9, then at least one will likely end up on display at one of the Universal Studios theme parks. Before they go, though, McCarthy hopes to get them out to a track and dialed in properly.
“The only thing I regret is, we didn’t have a lot of track time,” he says. “Normally we’ll build these cars, and we’ll head out to Willow Springs for the day and run them through their paces. With this car, we were just in such a time crunch to get them shipped out. I think I made one pass up and down the street in front of my shop, and everything felt good. Into a shipping container it went, and that was it.
“Hopefully,” he continues, “when we get a little bit closer to movie release time [on June 25], we can take this car out and put it through its paces and see what it does. I have a bad feeling it’s going to have a little bit of an understeer push characteristic to it, because it’s just a ton of power, real sticky tires, and we never even scaled the car. I got to believe it’s 62, 63, or 64 percent rear weight bias on the car. But hopefully with a little track time, we’ll get that tamed and see what the thing can really do.”
