I've said before that Ted Lewis would work pretty well for Lesslo. The voice he did for Escargoon from the 4Kids dub of the Kirby anime fits him. It just has that "annoying smartass" vibe, y'know?

BUUUUUT a good while back I did stumble across EPIC the Musical. And while I'm not a big fan of musicals, I'm a sucker for Greek mythology. There is just something about the singer for Hermes that works way too well... It's the laugh. It's DEFINITELY the laugh.

As for the others... A lot of people have dubbed this comic already, so lemme highlight a few voices that I really enjoy!

I am a very big fan of @paramasqueradeva's take on Ralsei. I enjoy how gentle and polite he sounds. It is extremely fitting for him and the accent works so well. But her take on Toriel is probably the one I wanna highlight the most. It IS the voice I hear in my head when I think of Toriel's dialog in this comic. Also acertain cupid told us she's most likely gonna be a part of the story later. I AM looking forward to when we get there.

Speaking of which, @washerpizza did a GREAT Asgore for this comic! I cannot explain it properly, but the pitch and inflections are just right... y'know? IT JUST SOUNDS SO WARM AND COZY GODDAMMIT. I WANNA HUG THIS VOICE. But yeah, Asgore will also be playing a role in the comic later so that's why I'm highlighting that voice in particular.

The guys over at Symbiotus Inc. on Youtube are also doing a FANTASTIC job! I especially love how Berdly voiced in them. Makes me wish I included more bits with him... but that's what the mini comics are for I guess. BUT YEAH! It's of a collection of people dubbing this comic rather than just one person, so it would be a little easier if you go look up all the voice actors in the description of their dubs.

OH, and I can't forget @projectalpha22's take on Kris specifically. It strikes the perfect balance between all the yelling, silliness and the tender moments. So the whole spectrum of what makes Kris... well... Kris in the comic. I haven't heard a take on them that just straight up nails it like this one. That is just Kris and it is the voice I will forever hear in my mind when I think of Kris' dialog and nothing will ever change that.

Also, they even did the voice work for TR!Kris in this mod for Ring Racers. Go check it out!

GO CHECK OUT ALL THE ALL THE HIGHLIGHTED VOICE ACTORS FOR THAT MATTER. DO IT. I WILL KEEP STANDING IN FRONT OF YOUR DOOR WITH AN AXE UNTIL YOU DO IT.

Fourteen Days of MHA: Day 3

Light Fades to Rain

Okay, let's gush. Here are my feelings about the anime adaptation of chapters 360-362: season 7 episode 11. This will quickly devolve from eloquent discussion to raging madness I promise.

The opening five minutes are the weakest part of the episode. This is the only section I will lodge any complaints about, and honestly they're not that serious.

The sadomasochism got toned down :P

I kind of expected it, and honestly I get why. Even though it was scaled back, the scene was effective enough for most viewers because there's just something about seeing it animated that makes it feel visceral anyways. The detail was always going to be reduced in the art when adapted to animation, and a lot of that art could've looked really bad without the necessary detail.

But it wouldn't be on brand for me if I didn't mention that it bummed me out lol.

The only other thing I can complain about isn't even an issue with the episode, it's an error in the subtitles.

"...you're just goldfish poop next to All For One."

a) It should be "One For All," not "All For One."

b) I don't think they should have kept it as "goldfish poop." Sorry to any language purists out there, but the idiomatic meaning of this phrase in Japanese will not get picked up by an English-speaking audience--and that idiom is important. It has an impact on how Katsuki behaves going forward. I think the subtitles should have changed that to something like "a minnow in One For All's wake" or "a tag-along weakling," ANYTHING to get the point across that Tomura is trying to inflict psychological damage by telling Katsuki he'll never amount to anything on the level of One For All. That message informs the rest of the episode!

Now, if that's the only complaint I have about this whole episode--a slightly too-fast-paced-under-detailed opening scene and a bad subtitle--then I'm a happy camper. And indeed that is the only complaint I have.

This episode is a masterpiece of adaptation.

The focus on the Big Three is so good because it does such a good job of masking where the episode is going but it's perfectly in-theme because of the parallels the three of them have with Izuku and Katsuki. IT JUST WORKS MAN. I LOVE IT.

The music that plays when Katsuki mutters is an excellent choice, though I wish they could have done something to hammer the point home more that he was indeed muttering and analyzing like Izuku does. Maybe the little "mutter" text would've been dissonant in tone lol but still I wish there was a way they could've done it. I do think the point does come across in the end still, but it's just more impactful when you get to see the little "mutter" text come full circle. Yeah yeah, manga vs anime and all that.

I didn't expect the tone they went with for Jeanist's reaction to Katsuki's muttering, but it was just different not like bad or anything. I kinda liked the whole "what the fuuuuck" vibe of it. I was thinking more like "Holy shit, I'm a proud dad" tone but this works XD

Jeanist is such a dad.

HE SPARKLE. KATSUKI, HE SPARKLE. IT SO PRETTY. AT LAST.

The animators were SOOOO trying to hide the twist this episode from the anime-only viewers, they didn't even put Katsuki on the commercial bumpers, they didn't want to SPOIL THE SURPRISE. IT'S SO GOOD.

Lost it at Tenko's freak out (damn voice actor wow) and Mirio's "g-gomen." I need the dub of this scene so bad.

JEANIST MY FIRST LOVE, DAD-ING SO HARD ALL OVER THIS EPISODE LOOK AT HIM GO.

Nejire is adorable as hell and everyone in MHA is so easily read as autistic it's remarkable actually.

They really put the typography behind the plasma cannon they actually did that.

UNF THAT PIANO. THE PIANO GOES OFF ALL OVER THE PLACE THIS EPISODE, DAMN.

Also good job on making the plasma cannon blast look small and precise to contrast Katsuki's attack last episode, because Katsuki definitely has more firepower but Tamaki has the finesse to concentrate the attack for a sustained period.

Dungeon Meshi Anime Review, Season 2, Episode 17 review

OH GOD OKAY here we go...

Once again, I am a broken record: good episode!

My two major complaints: The bit where Laios and Kabru stand around talking next to an off-screen, roaring, screaming monster seemed kind of silly in animation. In a comic it works, but they really should have animated them walking or stumbling away while delivering those lines, having them just stand there until the monster attacks them again is really goofy.

ALSO, something Trigger keeps doing that I am NOT a fan of, is throwing animated speed-line backgrounds behind characters when they're reacting to something. Sometimes these were in the original manga, other times they are NOT... and they break the immersion of the anime completely IMO.

The coloring in DM is so moody and wonderful, the aesthetic is generally grounded, so when suddenly the background is bright blue or lime green or pink and strobing, it's VERY jarring... and the joke DOES NOT NEED these effects in order to be funny! In fact I think it leeches some of the humor out of the jokes. Imagine if every time someone had a strong emotion in a classic Disney movie you'd get this:

This type of sudden background color change, strobing and speed lines are artifacts of older, cheaper anime, tricks that used to be done to hide the lack of budget, as a way to make a quick joke. It's now used as a shorthand to tell people a joke is happening.

But Trigger doesn't NEED to use these tricks, they're using them because "that's how you make sure the audience knows a joke is happening", but the jokes in Dungeon Meshi are so well written, you don't need to cue us with a visual laugh-track, Trigger!!!! ESPECIALLY when Kui didn't do it in the manga!!!

They've done it in other episodes, but I felt like they were particularly noticeable and bad in this one. Makes me sad because I feel it's dragging the anime down from the genuine peak of artistry that it's otherwise achieving.

As always, animation is fantastic. The stuff with chimera falin is obviously top notch, brutal and fast and amazing... But I also have to say that the Toshiro and Laios argument was animated INCREDIBLY well, with a lot of loving detail given to what is, ostensibly, just talking, something Trigger normally hates to animate.... But they put movie-quality work into that argument and it really paid off.

Honestly can't think of much to complain about. It's a solid adaptation of this part of the story, one of the biggest, coolest action sequences that we've all been waiting for.

Vocal performances were all great in both English and Japanese. Kabru's English voice actor did a great job, despite my misgivings about him in previous episodes. I hope he continues to improve.

A dub script change had Kabru think "He's excited" about Laios instead of "his pupils are dilated"... This isn't a terrible change, but a bit baffling. Saying his pupils are dilated tells viewers HOW Kabru knows Laios is excited, and indicates that he is using some kind of scientific criteria to measure it, it makes him sound smarter and more detached from what he's doing. Just saying "he's excited" doesn't tell us how Kabru knows... and it's a thought, not dialog, so it's weird for them to change it in the script, since there's no need to match mouth-flaps.

The sequence where Kabru strips off all his armor and does a surprise attack on Falin is still fantastic in this, though I am a little bit sad that they didn't find any ways to add any extra emphasis for it - in the manga it's drawn out a bit, to the point where you might miss what was happening on your first read... I think the amount of shots we got in the anime was the same as in the manga, but somehow it felt less impactful to me. Maybe pacing?

At any rate, it was an incredibly solid episode.

I already liked Toshiro, but seeing this part of the manga animated really made me like him more, I hadn't realized in the past just how damn romantic the twin bells thing was, but damn. Toshiro really has forgiven Laios by the time they part ways here, it's easy to forget that since Toshiro very much takes a back seat after this.

Yes! And he will perform his deleted song "A Wish Worth Making" at the end of the story to help close it out! Its actually one of the few things I'm glad the movie changed. I really like Sabino and glad they didn't kill him off.

Sabino's is still Victor Garber, I feel that was a great choice, but they didn't give him any good lines to say or have an impact on the viewer. Very underutilized. As for Sakina, I know it sounds strange, but I picked Whoopi Goldberg. WG!Sakina has a bit of sass to her (that's where Asha gets it from) but she can still be motherly and caring. She'll even have some good lines later on and in the bonus stories. I think Whoopi can make all that come through in her voice.

He will do it twice as a monster, actually! He looks at the camera and says "How's that for a climax?" when the time comes for him and Star to fight. And another when Gabo asks Amaya how did she get to the top of tower before Magnifico did. She can't explain, and neither can the King, so its a Emperor's New Groove reference!

OH YEAH!! The inspirations are Team Rocket when they're in front of a crowd, then Hades and Maleficent when they're alone together. LOVE both of those pairings, so they fit in well!

5. I haven't quite decided yet. I've been considering turning him into a regular housecat to reference Yzma's cat form, or getting injured fighting Valentino. He would begrudgingly receive care from Bazeema during his recovery.

6. Actually Star is technically a regular guy. "Wish Granted" Stars ate dubbed "star nomads", where they travel across the galaxy in the Startosphere without a permanent home. There's only one royal star, and that's the legendary wishing star that no one has actually seen in the present. Though, Star feels like a prince when he's with Asha and Asha feels like a princess when she's with Star.

As for the mother relationship question, I would say Moana and Chief Tui. Star's parents don't really understand why he wants to visit Earth so badly when he has all of space to travel in. They still love and care for him, he's just the odd kid in his family.

7. Nope, but you're close! He's using Asha's family and the Hamlet as bait so he gives her an ultimatum. Either she hands over Star and he dies, or her family dies. You are right about both he and Amaya wanting to drain Star's magic. He's going to use the staff to stab him in the chest and drain every drop out of him until he's empty. Then the two will share the celestial magic and will be able to conquer the rest of the world.

8. Yes, good eye! Its not a Disney reference, but they're similar to the Alien Force version of Ben and Gwen Tennyson. They're practically family and get along, no romance in the slightest.

9. Like the deleted scene, Flazino's wish is to study magic. For this story, its so he can help others lives be better, which is what he thought Magnifico wanted as well. He thought the job would be more glamorous or fun as he learned, but it turns out Mags doesn't actually want a successor. He plans on being in power permanently with his wife. He pretends he granted Flazi's wish and instead of studying magic, he's the errand boy, cleans the lab equipment, feeds Sabor, and is in charge of the tour guides for newcomers. Flazino just practices what he can at home and secretly takes ingredients from Amaya's potion cabinet.

He gave his wish at 18, and was surprised to hear it was getting granted so soon. Though Mags doesn't really need an apprentice, he takes Flaz on just in case something happened to him, all of his magic, power and evil will go into the apprentice. Sort of passing on his plans to him to become the next Magnifico and continue his work. That's pretty terrifying.

During the first few months of becoming the apprentice, he learned about the Hamlet through rumors in Rosas. He didn't understand why people would run away until he stumbles on seeing the king and queen crush the wishes of a couple who talked about leaving Rosas and not trusting the royals. He never saw that couple again.

He later took off one night into the forest to finds this supposed Hamlet using a tracking spell. Once he finds it, Sabino and other people tell him why they ran and what a monster the royal could be. Flazino felt so disgusted that he promised to help anyway he could. So he makes an excuse to get specialty mushroom from the Uncharted Forest once a month and brings supplies to the Hamlet ever since. (stuff like seeds to grow food, flour, medicine, toys for the kids)

so to this day I have watched the Last Wish twice in theaters in French dub and once online in its original dub. Both versions are equally good (even Puss' voice actor did a great job at imitating Banderas' iconic accent without sounding caricatural) but there are a few things about the dub in particular that just Got It Right

- when Puss buries his clothes and cries during his fake eunology, he doesn't sing "who is your favorite fearless hero? you were...you were" but instead "who is the most fearless hero ? not you...not you." which is a very little variation but like...OUCH???

- Goldi and the Three Bears as a whole. They sounded amazing. They really went from the cute british criminals to the loud French family from the country and it just works so well

- when Kitty Patte de Velours (yeah her name is Kitty Velvet Paws and it's very badass) hands Potté the gatito blade (his name should have been Botté but at the time Shrek 2 was made they couldn't change his signature P into a B, so Puss in Boots kind of became Cat in Poots. so his name is Poots. it means nothing. it's hilarious.), he says "it's cute?" instead of "thank you" and he sounded so awkward for some reason, funny as hell. Bro was whipped.

- the Wolf. good god. the Wolf. Wagner Moura did amazing in the original version but...THE WOLF SOUNDS SO MUCH SCARIER. HE CAN GET SCARIER PEOPLE. THE ACTOR HAS THIS DEEP MENACING, WEIRDLY SEXY VOICE THAT JUST MAKES YOUR SOUL TREMBLE. and for the whole time my friends and I were wondering where we had heard that voice before, because it sounded so recognizable. And well. It's the same guy who dubbed Moto Moto in Madagascar 2. It's the exact same voice and tone. Except Moto Moto is a serial killer now. I'll never get over this I think.

Something I really appreciate with the voice actors for Castlevania especially Castlevania nocturne is that they didn't sound like anime English dub voice actors and it allowed them to actually do an amazing job

Everyone's characters voice sounds so good and emotionally well done

Some people don't like that the voice actress for Annette is South African ( I think ) so the accent isn't there but her actual acting was really good. Loved the guy that did Olrox voice

I'm not really a fan of English dubs for anime because many just copy things that work in Japanese but in English, it doesn't make sense and it's really off putting. Part of the reason I bothered to continue watching castlevania is they didn't just copy what they saw some English voices actors do for animes and I mention that because it's obvious anime inspired the show

I am BACK with another underrated Japanese Yandere Audio Drama ASMR recommendation for y’all~! Because this is all I’ve been doing in my spare time, I have no goddamn excuses on why I haven’t been posting much 🤡 This, my friends, is the reason why I’m so damn inactive these days lol BUT HEY—Please don’t go 🥺 This one is a real fucking gem, Darlings—I don’t understand why it has so little views on Youtube because it has everything I wanted in my hornii. There’s the plot, the smut (It’s not very explicit as to a full-on fucking, because Youtube—Just a few lewd lip sounds, that’s all 🫣 But that’s all I needed to get the neurons working) and there’s kinda some angst in there(?)

Anyway, it’s an hour-long! 🧎‍♀️ I was so happy after I was done listening to it and kinda speechless ngl ☠️ I dug hard for this gem and I’m not about to gatekeep anyone from finding it and sharing the experience (dont ask how i stumbled upon this one though, you dont wanna know how much ive been scrolling on youtube to find this, my friends 🧎‍♀️)

It’s a Yandere Audio Drama that is simply titled “Nya-chan” 🫣 Ominously adorable title, but it’ll make sense as you listened to it. As always, it doesn’t have an english translation as of now which is extremely unfortunate because I think a lot of people would’ve appreciated this more if it does—BUT THAT’S WHY IM HERE EVERYONE 👀👋

So, if you don’t mind—Allow me to spoil you all with what happened with a “brief” summary of it all ♥︎ (EDIT : THIS IS A LIE IVE BEEN WRITING THIS FOR TWO HOURS) BUT I STILL WANT YOU TO LISTEN TO THIS ART PERSONALLY, the voice actor really did a great job with it 😭 check them out, seriously.

The story starts off with You (The listener UwU) meeting your fiance’s little brother for the first time and because you want to be a good future Sister-in-Law, you wanted to spend time and bond with him by partaking in his hobbies. He’s an engineer of some kind, and it seems like he’s a talented cook as well because when he found out that you’re hungry, he made you some pasta 🧎‍♀️You praised him, but he says you’re overreacting cause it’s just pasta lol he’s clearly embarrassed—He sounded like wanted to say something else (Probably wanting to cook more for you if you want ✨👀👉👈) but his brother comes in and interrupted him.

Under his breath, he says “Why does he have to be here of all times” which makes me think that this may not be the first time he knew of us…Or he just—y’know got attached that quick. (It really wasn’t specified 😭 or I might’ve just missed it somewhere 🤡) But ANYWAY, THE NEXT DAY—

You both met again, and he’s surprised that see you and where you work at because it’s close to his (?) You pointed out his office clothes, and he thought you were making fun of him, but was pleasantly surprised to hear you say that he looks good in it and he thanks you for it. Flustered, he changes the subject and ask where your fiance may be because he couldn’t get hold of him lately—It seems like he’s working overtime and he feels kinda bad that you’re going to eat dinner alone, so he sighs and invites you over to his place so he can make you something. He’s a real tsundere at this point of the audio drama, which was very cute lol But he seems like he has a soft-spot for you, because once he saw how you really look like you want to try his cooking again, he caved in quick lmao

At his home, he sarcastically praises your appetite and was impressed by the fact that you’re able to act so close woth him, despite only meeting for the few times lmao we have no shame. Your only reason was because you see him as you’re own younger brother too, and he only hums and scolds you more lol Even though he sounds like he’s all annoyed with you, he still encourages you to still eat more and stop complaining ☠️ He says he can guarantee the taste but plating is not his strongest forte lol

Then, he suddenly asks if you’re gonna contact your fiance anytime soon about this and it seems like you didn’t plan to do that—In which he scolds you again and say that you should, because he (your fiance) might think it’s weird. Again, you told him it’s fine because you’re only hanging out with him like how a big sister would with her younger brother…Here, we can hear that hint of disappointment in his voice as he whispers to himself, “…So you don’t see me as a man then.”

Of course, you didn’t quite hear what he says and asks if he can repeat that, but he says it’s nothing and went back to pressure you to continue eating because the food is getting cold.

After a while, you finally finished eating and he praises you for it…Also teasing you for looking so happy about it too along the way. He scolds you about learning how to cook for yourself sometimes, because you sound like you know what good food tastes like lol You told him that—Yeah, maybe from now on, in which he commented that you sound like someone prolonging their diet for tomorrow ☠️ and that’s the kind of person who usually don’t succeed on what they planned ☠️ someone calm this man down jesus christ, i did not to be called out like that ☠️ You asked him if he could teach you instead, but he refuses because he said he was self-taught and can’t teach for shit, so he tells you to learn it by yourself. Damn bro.

He proceeds to slander you for having simple tastes ☠️ lmao

The conversation then starts to shift towards himself as he slowly begins to reveal how he feels inferior compared to him—Since his brother seems to have everything, while he’s just there on the shadows. You took notice of this and assured him that, at the very least, he’s still very kind. He’s flustered, embarrassed, scratches his head as he appreciates you for saying that.

…But HOO BOI THIS IS WHERE IT GETS INTERESTING—You then asked something about him, wondering if he, too, has someone he likes romantically. He was surprised to hear that actually, hesitates, but turns serious and says, “Yes…Yes, I do have one.”

“She’s very bright, kind, and a handful. She’s older than me, but so unreliable that I just can’t leave her alone.” He sounds incredibly embarrassed. “She eats the food I make with a big smile on her face…and it makes me really happy.”

But he suddenly sounds solemn. “…But that person is getting married next month, and I’m still in shock.” He laughs a little, but he sounds so sad 🥺 “I kept thinking, why is it not me? Maybe if I have met her earlier, maybe that could’ve been me by her side.”

“Why do I have to meet her when it’s all too late…? It’s really unfair.” 🥲

“But you know what’s worse?” He starts getting a little weird like he just fucking gave up on trying to hide his feelings lmao “The one that, that person is getting married to…is actually my own older brother. So, I don’t know what to do about that.”

OF COURSE, THAT SOUNDS SUS AF so, as an act of defending yourself against the awkwardness, you stood up from your seat and about to fuck off to oblivion, when he stops you like “Wait, hold up—Please, don’t leave 🥺” He admits that he was frustrated on the fact that people view you and your fiance as this sort of “fated couple”, and it makes him sick. It feels like his brother got something he wanted and once again, he lost. Yandere-kun admits that he doesn’t have that many friends, nor does he have a girlfriend himself, so it’s always his brother who gets all the attention. The expectation that was supposed to be his was given to his brother himself, so he hated how it’s happening again with you this time…and it feels like the universe is forcing him to give up on everything for his brother.

“…But why do you have to be so nice to me?“ It turns out he was actually trying to give up on pursuing you too, but it hurts because he doesn’t want to—Since you’re so nice to him, you spend time with him, and had praised him more than anyone has…But you only see him as a younger brother and not as a man. He felt like you asking if he has anyone he likes was the final straw, and he couldn’t help but laugh. He comments how insensitive you are 😭 Like having no self-awareness and all that shit man

But he knew that you were only trying to bond with him only because you want to have a good, healthy relationship with your soon-to-be Brother-in-Law…But that’s when he finally snaps and how that’s never gonna happen, “From the very first time we met, I’ve only seen you as a woman more than anyone else.” So, he will never see you as just Sister-in-Law, he loves you too much.

He was surprised himself to know how weak he actually is, because just thinking of you was this fucking painful and he’s pissed that he can’t even help himself…and embraces you, finally being able to touch you freely, and commenting on how nice you smell like.

“Hey…How do you think I can be freed from this pain?“ “How do you think am I supposed to give up on you?” Because he doesn’t want to give up on you, he wants you to fall in love with him as well and asks if that’s really such a bad thing.

Perhaps a little freaked out, you began to call your fiance’s name instinctively but he scolds you, “Please…don’t call anyone’s name but mine right now.” AND FUCKING SOFT KISSES YOU. He demands you to say his name, and when you hesitantly did—He’s on cloud-nine, asks you to repeat it again and again, and again as he KISSES YOU EVERYTIME.

But whenever he thinks about how you’re going to be his brother’s wife soon, all he sees is red…He keeps apologizing and says he really doesn’t mean it and understands if you won’t be able to forgive him anytime soon.

…Perhaps you were guilty about the fact that you unknowingly lead his feelings on by being close to him too, you apogized in which he denies immediately—Saying you didn’t do anything wrong, and that everything is on him.

To compensate, you suggested to just simply forget everything that happened until now—But Yandere-kun doesn’t quite agree with that solution. “…Am I supposed to just forget about something that made me so happy?” He says he can’t do that, but realizes that he was being selfish again and apologized as he begrudingly agreed to do just that. “I guess it’s better than you reporting me to the police.” He said, it’s the least that he can do.

“I’ll…I’ll forget about what happened…Definitely. But just for this moment, will you stay with me?” You somehow agreed, and he hugs you tight—Whispering yet another apology.

Some time later after what happened, I guess…Oh, and it’s getting closer to your wedding day PFFT He calls you through the phone, and he was surprised that you answered—He’s sorry for calling you, but he says his brother is at his place and has something he needed your help with, so he asks if you want to eat lunch with them…But he understands if you don’t want to, since it’ll be awkward with him there after what happened. But you agreed anyway, “Are you sure?” He asks, but says he’ll be waiting for you then eventually.

He welcomes you to his home, and it’s not really explained here—But you were surprised to see him, maybe because he looks horribly depressed 😭 He tells you to just go inside and sit your ass down lol You ask where your brother is and he says he went to the convenience store to buy something and he’ll be back soon (doubt) and AGAIN he apologizes for what happened between the two of you, which makes me think that he’s really reflecting on his actions and I’m just being a little bitch about it ☠️ He said he’s gotten better at controlling his feelings now, and swears to you that it won’t happen again (DOUBT)

You assured him, and he finally sounds happy omg He admits that he was sad the past few days because he thought you won’t be able to talk to him again—But seeing you right now, talking to him, and reassuring him made him so glad that he’s wrong 🥹 He’s very grateful and you jokingly tell him he sounds strange compared to before.

Overall this was a fairly standard episode, I think, at least for what we've come to expect. The action was cool but weirdly dark at points, they made a point of showing when more subtle abilities were in use, etc. etc.

There wasn't anything bad about the episode, but there wasn't much that allowed it to stand out from the rest

Except! The bit where Chikara was experiencing the world in English. They did a really good job with the cast speaking English. The cadence was a little off, but the syntax and pronunciation were pretty good!

It was also really interesting that whenever they wanted to show that Chikara and Fuuko were speaking Japanese and weren't being understood by someone, they were speaking in a clearly unusual way. I don't know if they were speaking gibberish or if they were speaking in on'yomi or something, but it was still apparent that something was off even when I don't know Japanese. If anyone has more insight on this, I'd love to hear it!

I'm very curious to see how they'll handle this in the dub. I'm hoping that they'll have Chikara's voice actor actually speak Japanese, but I get the feeling that they'll just have him speak English and pretend he isn't. Maybe they'll overlay the Japanese dialogue or something?

But yeah, an average episode for this series, but as far as I'm concerned that makes it a good episode as far as anime is concerned, and I can't ask for much more than that!

minato/aleks le - really really good i actually like him better as minato than yuri lowenthal. day 54358474 of wishing persona protags weren't silent so i could hear more of him. my coolguy emoboy

aigis/dawn bennett - easily my favorite va in reload she fits aigis SO WELL and so much better than her old stupid racist ass va. it's actually crazy how much better she fits, her voice is so sweet and gentle and i think she did a good job gradually shifting from being robotic to more human-sounding even if the difference isn't as notable as it was in the original dub. but all around she did such an amazing job and i do think she really shined in the answer. fuckkk aigis AIGIS YOU WILL ALWAYS BE FAMOUS

yukari/heather gonzales - it was sooo jarring at first but she grew on me really quick. i think she definitely fits yukari as she is in reload since her dialogue is notably less bitchy and more sweet and sincere. there were some really good deliveries too my favorite one was the way she said "aigis you're with us. junpei... GUYS ROOM." that was so funny and natural. i also really enjoyed michelle ruff's performance though i just kind of see them as two different yukaris.

junpei/zeno robinson - THE GOAAAAAT i already said in my last post but he's so so much more funny and likable. and also his emotional scenes had a lot more punch. jsut overall made me like him way more, one of my favorite performances.

mitsuru/allegra clark - can i be honest i barely noticed a difference between her and tara platt LOL but i liked her

akihiko/alejandro saab - he was okay... actually probably the only va who i definitely preferred the original over the new one. sorry alejandro i think you're great though. i jsut didn't really like the voice direction compared to the original. the way he says "I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS" is really funny though like relax man..

fuuka/suzie yeung - up there with aigis and junpei as being way way better and more fitting for the character. i don't actually mind wendee lee but suzie's voice fits much better imo. she sounded very kind and a bit timid and her soft, gentle tone suits fuuka a lot more. i think her deliveries were very good too.

ken/justine lee - he actually sounds like a 10 year old that's the craziest part. also i just found out justine is nonbinary that's also really cool. anyway they did an amazing job and also definitely a va change that made him feel more likable (although i've always loved ken. my baby little guy) and october 4 did make me cry.whatever

shinji/justice slocum - i don't even remember the old va's name but someone showed me a clip where he dubbed a hentai and i've been unable to erase that from my mind so it was really nice to not have that association with shinji anymore idk. i don't have too many notes but i think he did a great job

ok my hands are getting tired but i also def prefer chidori's new va her old english va sounded kind of obnoxious. i really love lizzie freeman as metis, she's so cute and genuine and i wanna scoop her up and hug her. and koromaru does not sound like a dog.

he sounds fine??? for the role?? i don't really get the comotion for it and how it's "bad."

maybe it's because he doesn't have that many lines, but i don't think this was enough to get upset over.

also the people who are actively dubbing over wesker and ada's lines- i hope someone comes along and shits all over your work as well!

also fyi, using ai generated voices that are based entirely on a unionized actor can be pursued for legal action so good luck with that!

Dungeon Meshi Season 1 EP 5 review

Episode 5 of the anime came out and we got to see Kabru!!! My boy Kabru!!! Oh right there was other stuff after the first five minutes.

KABRU THOUGH!!!

I don't actually have a lot to say about this episode. I thought it was competent, although as always characters standing around and talking, or doing simple tasks like eating, are just not Trigger's strong point.

Has anybody deciphered the language that Kui is using in the backgrounds? SO HAPPY that her glyphs are here now, instead of the Japanese in the first episode. I've tried to figure out what they are, but I'm honestly stumped. Seems like a combination of Norse runes, Greek letters, Cuneiform and Sanskrit...

Was NOT a fan of the way they overdid Kabru scaring Mikbell. It's really not a joke that's even that funny, so I think the lighting change and drama of it was really overselling it. Would have been much better if it was like in the manga, some childish, light-hearted ribbing between friends while they get ready to leave.

Although it was VERY VERY funny, I was also not a fan of the youtube-poop-esque zoom out on Marcille when she sees the treasure bugs. Like Laios' galaxy brain moment, comedic edits like this remind me that I'm watching a TV show, instead of allowing me to be immersed in the historical fantasy world. If I wanted modern jokes I'd be watching an Isekai where the characters are in a video game, not Dungeon Meshi.

I think they could have gotten an equally good laugh just from doing a simple zoom out.

I love the way they're depicting Laios. You can clearly see all the red flags his friends are picking up on and how he might be scary to others, but he's also very sympathetic and sweet.

All the Japanese VA's are doing a great job. I liked Kabru's Japanese voice a little better than his English voice just because I think he did a better job capturing Kabru's dual nature - he started out very sweet and cute, and then dropped his timbre noticeably once he was no longer sweet-talking someone. The English voice actor meanwhile felt like their voice basically stayed the same the entire episode.

THE DUB

This is still the better way to watch the show, the subtitles are SO lacking that they make the story harder to follow. The dub script, meanwhile, does a much better job. I wonder if there's a way to watch it with Japanese audio and the English dub subtitles?

BangZoom continues to make interesting casting decisions that make me VERY curious to see how they're going to handle the elves when they finally arrive.

Kabru, Daya and Kuro are all voiced by black voice actors! Rin's voice actress is Asian American, and Namari's voice actress is nonbinary. They all sound fantastic and I'm excited to hear them develop their characters as the series progresses.

Obviously Kabru isn't black, he's Indian, but Zon also isn't black, so I appreciate casting people of color to play characters of color (?) or at least, characters that are minorities? It feels like that's what they're trying to do.

ON THE OTHER HAND, Daya is very much not a minority or a character of color... I suppose that would be a case of race-blind casting? Which is also a good practice, getting new, underutilized talent into the industry... But obviously not a part of the previous point. Regardless, she sounds great.

Again, REALLY wonder how this will influence their casting decisions with the elves. Wonder if any of this was done with instruction from Trigger or Kui, or if it's 100% BangZoom operating on their own.

Reviewing Dutch versions as a Dutch bc i can lol - Ferdinand (2017)

Well guys, today we are reviewing the dutch version of Ferdinand, a movie about a sweet careful bull that was originally bred for bullfighting, but he doesnt want to fight. I wont be out here explaining the whole thing - pls just watch the movie - but he ends up in a bullfight bc of being chosen by a matador.

I watched this movie in English and Dutch (i think its really ironic how this movie has a Spanish dub, just like how Turbo has a French dub) and i enjoyed both of them. But lets cover the dutch voices by my opinion.

Ferdinand

Voiced by: Rico Verhoeven

Holy shit, when i tell you Rico's role in this movie was advertised, it was ADVERTISED. I remember seeing ads about Rico voicing Ferdinand everywhere in 2017, but does it live up to the hype?

I have no idea how to say this so i will try my best. I will just start off by telling you that Rico Verhoeven is a really well known / popular kickboxer in the Netherlands, and we all know him, he has a lot of fans, everyone here has heard about him at least at some point. I never thought he would voice act, considering his career and what he is known for, but his work in this movie was surprisingly good for someone who has never had such an important role in a movie before. He had like background voices sometimes, this was his first major role (for as far as i know) and he handles it quite well. He was really proud of this movie and he loved being part of it, and to be honest, you can hear that. Rico really brings his own spark into the character, like how thats supposed to be. What i love about dubs is how all the actors have a chance to bring a new vibe to a character by giving them just a voice. Rico's performance in this movie wasnt phenomenal, but for his (i think) first major role, he definitley did very well and he can for sure be proud of this movie.

Valiente

Daan... oh, Daan.

You guys follow me for my Dinotrux stuff (Don't worry i know ;]) so what if i told you that Daan van Rijssel was the Dutch voice for Splitter in Dinotrux? Yes, i'm not kidding. Daan was in Dinotrux, so all i heard was Splitter (mostly bc Daan uses the same voice for Valiente and Splitter)

I seriously cannot get a clear explaination of the voice of this guy. His voice souds kind of raw, agressive, somewhere in between, and its strangely fitting for Valiente. Daan van Rijssel is genuinly a really good actor. He just has the right voice for this type of work, with these kind of characters. Especially in the fight scenes, i think Daan van Rijssel did one of the best perfomances in this movie. Just like he did in Dinotrux. He really suits his characters and makes them feel real. Respct voor jou, Daan! 👊

Lupe

Voiced by Plien Bennekom

Out of all the characters in this movie Plien definitley has the memorable and regocnizable voice, next to Rico. Plien Bennekom is a Dutch actress who has played in a long running educational Dutch TV program that is to this day still very popular titled Het Klokhuis (in English: The Apple Core) wich is a program for young and older kids, it teaches kids about different topics every episode, with sketchcomedy and funny animated videos in between, and it did super well. I watched het Klokhuis a lot when i was young, and Plien played the role of Marie Louise, basically a really rich bratty woman, who contantly tries to buy expensive stuff or tries to get her way, but fails. So when i heard Lupe for the first time in Dutch, i immediatly remembered the voice from Het Klokhuis, i searced it up and it turned out to be Plien.

Now lets cover her job on Lupe. Honestly? Its hilarious. Pliens voice suits Lupe so ridiculously well, she adds her own vibe to this character and does it in such a way it makes me laugh out loud. Just like i was magically enough not annoyed by Lupe at all even though she's supposed to be the funny sidekick wich is a role i usually hate, Plien adds even more to Lupe. Her depiction of Lupe is genius. I can just imagine Marie Louise going EEEW EEN GEIT when she sees Lupe, omg i just got the perfect crossover fanart idea.

Angus

Voiced by: Mike Weerts.

Hear me out. I love it when Dutch dubs depicts accents. Angus is originally voiced by David Tennant, so throughout the movie he has a very heavy Scottish accent. Now it would be a total shame if they would let this guy speak formal Dutch, right?

Exactly, thats why they gave him a good old ✨️Brabants accent✨️

And it works... quite well actually.

Im very glad it wasnt turned into a very heavy Flemish accent, with a soft G that most Dutch people hate. Brabants is pretty much Dutch with a slight accent and a few added words. Het is niet ✨️irritant✨️, het is ✨️aMbEtAnT✨️

I honestly really like that they kept an accent in this Dutch version. If there is a Flemish version of this movie (i don't know if there is) it will prbb be very hard to add something new. I have never heard of this actor before tho :( continuing with

Paco

Who is voiced by a youtuber named Furtjuh, a Dutch YouTuber that is huge. This is honestly so stupid that movies keep inviting people that just have a huge name. Its hard to have a big name in the Netherlands so as soon as someone does, like Furtjuh, they invite em over to movies while most of the time they can barely even act or add anything to the character they voice. Furtjuh is a Youtuber, not an actor. Rico Verhoeven has a big name, but at least he CAN ACT and actually ADD something to his character. He sounds regocnizable, but GOOD. Furtjuh doesnt add anything nor does he necessarily sound good. He sounds regocnizable but not good. I don't hate it, i just don't think Furtjuh is a good voice actor, but thats my opinion

Anyway, that was my main review. The other characters, i dont really have a lot to say about, they just sound ok in my opinion •_• anyway thats it. Hope you enjoyed it mirmirmir 😁

what do you think about la squadra's english dub voices?

Fun fact: I never watched the dub beyond a small bit of it because I was put off by the translation choices ("jail bait", having Melone shit on his dead teammates when he was quiet and polite in the Japanese original, etc.) but for this ask I fired up Episode 10 where everyone has a turn to speak (and took a quick listen of Episode 16 to hear more of Melone), and I'll write down my impressions of their voices as I go! Mostly comparing them to the original experience.

Formaggio: It seems fitting for someone of his stature, though I enjoyed the playful griminess the original had, and dub Narancia's more edgy voice makes me miss it more (somewhere between the two would have been the best for me). Either way he sounds like a tough guy fuckboy, and I can't argue with that.

Pesci: Mellower than the original when he speaks normally, which was both a relief to the ears and threw me off a bit because I was worried that he would just sound dopey for the most part, but I do hear the shrillness when he is spooked and anxious, so this is a really good fit and I would probably enjoy hearing more of it.

Melone: This is okay, I guess? It feels a little more rigid than the original, and sometimes makes him sound more butch than he needs to be, but it does a good job of giving him a detached and intellectual tone where he needs it. A little too detached, perhaps, because it doesn't convey the original's excitement very well.

Prosciutto: I see they did their best to give him a smooth cool guy voice, and it feels fine as a stand-alone, but I am very partial to his original voice so I definitely miss not just the deeper voice but the harder grit. Without it he sounds too generic for me, and his lines don't really help because they make him too pretentious.

Risotto: This one was a big miss for me because you can absolutely tell that the voice actor is trying to sound deeper than his range allows. I would have cast someone with a naturally deep voice, even if they might sound a bit more wooden as a result, just to nail the fact that everything about him is big from body to voice.

Illuso: Now *his* voice would have made a good Formaggio voice. There is that edge and irreverence that I was looking for, though I can see why Illuso was the one to get this voice, since he's taller and more subtly menacing than Formaggio. Side by side it feels justified, but I would have liked a more oily voice for him.

Ghiaccio: Oh, this one is fun! I'm neutral on his original voice, but the fact that it was really well captured and the yelling is top notch makes this my biggest favorite of the seven! He sounds young and properly angry and his is the one arc I would actually want to watch in the dub version based on the voice alone.
