Digimon Data Squad (Savers) - Episode 33
Another "building up to the final battle" episode. It was so predictable that my eyes kinda glazed over, but still an enjoyable time. Glad to be done with the bio-digi trio, time to move on!
I guess we're getting Tohma vs. Masaru in the next episode. This subplot still feels forced and weird to me, but oh well. Guess they had to fill the remaining episodes with something.
Notes:
I think BioDarkdramon was the most visually pleasing of the villain trio ultimates. He kinda has 80s/90s colors going on (and shoulder pads too lol). When they revealed his name I was thinking about all the "-dramon" digimon we've met so far. Digimon categories are so weird lol. I guess you could consider them "dragon type." I remember when they introduced the "Dramon Destroyer" in Adventure and I was like "what is that effective against like 2 digimon!?" but they've introduced more since.
Politics have made our heroes look like the bad guys and Kurata look like the good guy to the public. Wonder how they'll improve their PR lol. Maybe they need a "digimon are friends" campaign like in the ending of 02.
So Kouki just doesn't value human life at all? I guess that doesn't surprise me. Wait, did they even bother to give him a backstory??? I thought he was supposed to be the leader of his group but he ended up being the least interesting...
It's cute that Agumon still calls Masaru "aniki" in his ultimate form.
I don't get how anyone survived the destruction of the Holy City...I guess maybe they jumped off and are floating in the ocean? They didn't really explain, so maybe we'll find out.
I feel like the death of ElDoradimon wasn't emotional for me. I wish they gave us more lore about the Holy City because I feel like I learned nothing about it at all and had no time to get attached. When Masaru was screaming in anguish I felt like I should be feeling more than I did.
Wait, the dub previous for the next episode was different! We get to confront Tohma's Daddy issues next time? Okay, now I'm invested...

Digimon Adventure tri. (Japanese version) ~ Kōshirō Izumi {& bonus Jō Kido} + (Direct if Vague) Mention of {Koushiro}'s Biological line/relatives
(Narrator) is meanwhile Still {implied same/similar as Epilogue!Takeru}
"The SUMMER of 2001." {Pre '02!!} "Koushiro was {ON THE WAY to} (via Shinkansen) {visiting} Koushiro's {biological parents}' ["Ryōshin" is the term/word used for 'parents'; implying 'BOTH' 'parent's, which we know is Confirmed, thanks to information from the 3rd Adventure novel] {the Izumi}'s family GRAVE{s}..."
Japanese note: "Ryōshin" as a term is used elsewhere in the main Adventure series too. An example is in Episode 33's Japanese version, the episode with Pump{kin}mon and Got{t}sumon. In the beginning of that episode, Tsunomon verbally uses "Ryōshin" when informing Patamon about the current relationship state of Yamato and Takeru's parents {divorced}, (indirectly implying 'both' involved). Thus, it is not unusual the term 'Ryōshin' would apply in standard Japanese usage when being used for Koushiro's biological relatives.

And these advantages are maximized when building, and it shows a lot of fantastic plays that don't even need words because of the quick build speed and great physical and aim that makes you wonder if it's a human hand. It's a story. The motif of this plot is a 15-year-old boy drifting away.
It is a form in which the main characters, children, first fell on File Island, a different world. They are usually homeless, and when the members are scattered, they are tricked by the villainous Digimon and are exploited for no wages or ki모범택시2 다시보기 1화~16화 (완결) deluxe taxi 고화질dnapped. Unlike Pokemon, which maintains a bright atmosphere, such as the sacrifice of fellow Digimon or the death of friendly Digimon, the sometimes dark atmosphere of the Digimon series is also well expressed. In the second half of the story, the worries and conflicts of the children are also highlighted, and despite being young children, they manage to stay sane without suffering from mental breakdo모범택시2 다시보기 1화~16화 (완결) deluxe taxi 고화질wn and PTSD. In reality, characters have personalities that fit the truth, but at the same time, these values function as weaknesses and complexes. For example, Tae-il has excellent courage, but sometimes he is reckless and drags others into reckless things, and Matthew doubts friendship due to his brother complex. In addition, So-ra accepted her mother's love as an obsession, and Han-sol judged things only with knowledge and lacked consideration for others. Each character goes through the process of overcoming these values, which are both their strengths and deficiencies, and embodies the power of the sentence as 'their own', and the process comes very naturally without any awkwardness thanks to the excellent development.
Each character has family problems, including trauma related to their younger sister (Shin Tae-il), severe dependence on their older brother (Shin Na-ri), overprotection of thei모범택시2 다시보기 1화~16화 (완결) deluxe taxi 고화질r younger sibling (Matthew), conflict between mother and daughter and career problems (Han So-ra), parents' divorce ( Matthew and Ricky), orphans and adoptees (Jang Han-sol), and complexes about family expectations (Jeong Seok) [33] The episodes of overcoming problem모범택시2 다시보기 1화~16화 (완결) deluxe taxi 고화질s with colleagues and Digimons provide a storm of emotion.[34] The internal problems of the children were also parts that the parents were completely unaware of, but it is easy to understand when you consider that they are a big challenge at the time when they were young and remain as traumas even after they are young. That's why the eyes of children and adults are different. Ghost Game has gone on so long without a proper sixth ranger character, and this has been bugging me for awhile.
Adventure: The entire Myotismon arc is about finding Kairi, with the exact episode she joins in the early 30's. 02: Ken's slow to fully join the party, what with being the first arc's main antagonist, but "Genesis of Evil" is close enough and that's episode 23. Tamers: Ryo is the one outside the main trio to get a Biomerge Digivolution, and he first appears in episode 28. Every other tamer with focus (outside Alice and arguably the twins) has their partner by ep 40. Frontier: Koichi turns his Spirits of Darkness back to their original forms in episode 33. Data Squad: Keenan first appears in episode 14, and has his reunion with his human family at ep 20, which for my skimming is close enough. Tamers: Ewan first starts making himself apparent in episode 37, though he's an enemy until into the late 40s at earliest. Appmon: Rei first appears in episode 10, and Idon't remember exactly when he starts working with the others but I think it's by 25. Adventure 2020: Due to the way Patamon and Gatomon are handled, both TK and Kairi are effectively the sixth rangers of this series, with the former getting his partner in episode 25 (after an initial meeting in ep 20), and the latter in episode 33.
I'm not crunching the exact numbers right now, but in general, sixth rangers in Digimon series tend to lean to appearing in the late 20s, early 30s episode.
Meanwhile, the closest Ghost Game has to a sixth ranger is Espimon. He first appears in the right range in episode 38, but it isn't until he syncs with Hiro here in ep 62 - about double where most of the rest join - that he steps out rolewise from the likes of Clockmon and Mummymon.
There have been plenty of chances to have a new human join. Like, Meicrackmon sticking around with Riku, even if that would screw up the power balance in fights though I can see how that could be written around given she's a cat now and they just do what they want. Ep 50 broke my heart at the end. Like, Riku in general, he's been point-blank at too many of the series' shenanigans to be convinced he's still dreaming them all, including ones he was very clearly conscious for like Lilithmon and Meicrackmon, and (Aoi and Mika aside) is the most standout non-tamer character. He even has a personality quirk, which is something!
Perhaps that's an unfair comparison, given Ghost Game is more interested in being "Gegege no Kitaro but with Digimon" than it is being Digimon, but still.
Incidentally, Ghost Game is now five episodes behind catching up to the length of Adventure 2020, the longest anime series in the franchise (minus Xros Wars if you include Hunters). If this thing is going to have a main plot that isn't going to be a tacked-on two-part finale, it needs to start happening soon.
Digimon Ghost Game #62 Review
Tumblr media
In one sense, this is an extremely relevant episode. Two longstanding subplots in the story are effectively resolved here. Espimon’s been on his exhausting “fake Hiro” nonsense for far too long, and we finally get to see why he’s been so unconvinced and actually see a resolution that rids us of this tiresome bit. And Aoi’s been suspicious of Ruli’s Digimon activity for a while, and now that she ends up in a position where she can witness what happens, she’s more understanding and appreciative of both her and the Digimon. We should be thankful to get past these things. Just not when we’re struggling to buy the emotional investment into one story and starving for anything emotional in the other.
For Espimon, giving us the impression that the Fake Hiro thing was taking Hokuto extremely literally instantly made it annoying. We even appreciated a brief reprieve for a while when Espimon was still hanging around but too embarrassed to say he still wasn’t convinced. Now the emphasis changes: on Espimon being convinced/told that Hiro would help him evolve. Now it’s fair to say he’s paid his dues and been just useful enough to catch a break (Ryudamon, of all things, did), and HoverEspimon is used appropriately against ClavisAngemon. But it feels like we’re just getting the real story about this character now, in essence giving us exactly one episode of buildup. And if he really went into this with the intention of getting an evolution out of it, more or less gaslighting Hiro into getting what he wants, that comes off more manipulative than endearing.
The more interesting subjects of conversation are mostly left unspoken. Aoi and Mika have known that Ruli’s not being fully open with them, and while they’ve accepted that gracefully, it’s about time we hit a point where Aoi really can’t go back. Her reaction to the Digimon isn’t unsurprising, but we could have had more of it, with a deeper reflection of the trust she’s had in Ruli this whole time. Tolerating that kind of secrecy for so long after they’ve been through so much makes her incredibly faithful and that doesn’t come off here. The other point of note is that Hiro essentially has two partners now. We’ve seen the team utilize each other’s Digimon successfully, but this is the first time he’s triggered an unaffiliated Digimon to evolution, synced with him in battle, and brought him back down. That’s the biggest takeaway from this episode, and it’s very much lost in the shuffle with the focus shifting to Espimon’s ultimatum.
Initial Grade: C+

How Yamato, Takeru and Gabumon (formerly as Tsunomon) met Pumpmon/Pumpkinmon and Gotsumon in Shibuya.
(Yamato Ishida, Takeru Takaishi and Tsunomon are in Shibuya, looking for Patamon, when they see a pair of scared Digimon running in the streets. Tsunomon evolves/digivolves into Gabumon to confront Pumpmon and Gotsumon.) Gabumon: Pumpmon! Gotsumon! Takeru: Do you know these Digimon? Gabumon: I think these two work for Vamdemon! (Cue to surprised faces from Yamato and Takeru.) Pumpmon: There's a Shibuya Girl even scarier than Vamdemon who's chasing after us! (Yamato, Takeru and Gabumon are surprised from Pumpmon's words.) Gotsumon: You should hide too! (The angry young woman comes running and asks Yamato for the whereabouts of the two Digimon.) Yamato: Ummm...They went that way. (Yamato points on the left and the young woman thankfully leaves them alone. Yamato looks over to see Takeru, Gabumon, Pumpmon and Gotsumon come out of their hiding places once the coast is clear.) Gabumon: Did Vamdemon order the two of you to come here and find the eighth child? Pumpmon: Yeah. (Hearing Pumpmon's reply, Yamato, Takeru and Gabumon become suspicious of the two Digimon. The trio stare at Pumpmon and Gotsumon for a moment as the intense music plays.) Pumpmon: But Shibuya's much more fun! (Yamato, Takeru and Gabumon stare at Pumpmon and Gotsumon in disbelief.) Yamato: Shibuya is more fun? Gotsumon: We've become Shibuya-type Digimon! (As Gotsumon and Pumpmon strike a pose; Gabumon and Takeru become more confused at the duo.) Takeru: Shibuya-type Digimon? Gabumon: Just what are you two thinking? Pumpmon and Gotsumon: Nothing at all! Nothing at all! (Takeru, Yamato and Gabumon could only look at each other and sigh in disbelief.)

Digimon Frontier - Episode 33
Yaaay, this episode was really good! Lots of character bonding and some added backstory PLUS new spirits. Pretty jam packed now that I think about it.
Koichi's storyline feels a LOT like Ken's (and wait a minute, KAISERLeomon...), but the vibes are different since he's one of the main squad's siblings. Kinda a remix of Ken's plot. Glad they're giving the characters time to transition instead of insta-redemption (not that Koichi really did anything wrong).
Notes:
So Koichi says he's "jealous" of Koji, but I'm not positive why. It could be because Koji has a father and mother figure living with him (most likely). Is it also a financial thing though? Like Koji lives in a nicer house? (I should have paid closer attention lol). We know Koichi's mom is overworking herself so times must be tough.
Koji has a German shepherd! (Or one of those other breeds that looks like a German shepherd). I feel like there haven't been many pets in the digimon franchis (cept for that cat in Adventure). Hey, what's with the German theme? Koichi's new spirits have German names lol. (The writers were just in a mood that day).
New big mystery: how the heck did Koichi get to the digital world? Did Cherubimon just come out of one of the monitors at the train station or something? I'm not sure if this is something that's going to be revealed later or just something we're supposed to ignore lol.
The whole sequence on the train was really good. The awkwardness of Koji and Koichi sitting far apart, the other kids not sure how to handle the situation and walking on egg shells, and Koji being appreciative when Takuya gently approaches him. Very sweet and realistic. I also really liked the mini debate outside the train when Junpei said "If it was me, I would want to be left alone."
I don't think Koichi's spirits really needed to change to show that he's fighting on the good side now, but oh well. Lowemon is kinda boring but KaiserLeomon is straight up gorgeous. He's got that Umbreon color palette. Very regal. It's also just neat that Koji's line is wolf based and Koichi's is lion based. Nice contrast.
Tumblr media
From the side, Cherubimon kinda looks kangaroo shaped lol. I like his design because it's so...unorthodox. He sorta has a creepy jester vibe, but his body sorta looks like that of a mascot character or something? Like things that shouldn't be creepy/intimidating. He's got the same great, deep voice in both sub and dub.
Koji protecting his brother during the fight and calling him nii-san 😭❤️
Trailmon just getting yeeted into oblivion was pretty hilarious ngl. I guess they just walkin now.
Seeing Koichi's digivolution sequence for the first time was hype. Hope we get to see it in full a few more times. (Will Koichi be getting a double spirit evolution? Maybe he'll combine with Koji?)
When Koichi defeated Cherubimon and Junpei was like "this isn't right" I half expected him to end his sentence with "it's only episode 33!" lol
Wonder why the American DVD has Duskmon next to Koichi as the disc image instead of Lowemon?

This was one of my favourite episodes so far and I loved the different perspective!  I will be the first to admit I was a bit sceptical of how much I’d enjoy Ghost Game when I found out it was episodic, but the worldbuilding and characters completely won me over. I’ve actually been a bit surprised how quickly I stopped caring about the overarching plot and just enjoyed the how the team tackle each new monster of the week.
Thank you for being part of such an awesome show!
