Any advice for future homeowners?

Hey!!!

Sure thing: make sure you check the roof, the HVAC unit, and the kitchen appliances. Make sure you get an inspection and do not wave it because me and my fiancé did that and we’ve had a few things we had to do (new roof, new HVAC, soon a new oven, a possible leakage issue from a crack outside on the wall, old ass windows replaced) check it all! Make sure you’re aware of any damages, I would suggest you get a home where the kitchen and bathrooms are in great condition as well. You also want to be careful with floors too especially if it’s an older home.

Get the best realtor! Don’t settle for a “family member” or “family friend” because that’s not always the smart thing to do especially if it’s a “side hustle.” No, get a realtor that does it full time lol. Our realtor was a cousin of mine and she did it on the side and hadn’t done it in a while!

Save save save! Save your money! Don’t go into buying a home and not have a fund to fall back on for anything dealing with your home because seriously it Will benefit you! Home owning is an unexpected process. If buying a townhome, make sure you know everything about the HOA. Check out the areas you’re interested in (schools, is it a convenient commute to and from work, etc)

Have a list of people (plumber, electrician, handy man, etc) and there are apps or sites you can go on to find great local people. Also, never settle on your first option with anything. That goes for a home, if you’re shopping around for a new roofing company or HVAC company or even someone to do your floors. Everyone’s pricing is different and you don’t want to be screwed over because they will try to!

READ CONTRACTS!

Read it all! From whatever you have to sign when putting in an offer on a home, down to making a purchase for something to fix in your home. My fiancé made the mistake of signing a contract from Ashley Furniture for our sectional in our basement without reading it and the movers put a hole in our wall trying to get it down the steps and because he didn’t read it, they weren’t held accountable. I had to pay damn near $400 for the patch up and they didn’t even sand it down or paint over it! My fiancé ended up doing that.

Learn how to fix things in your home and also put stuff together. My fiancé has become very handy and he’s fixed a few things and mounted things on the wall and he plans to do more. Anything to help save more money. Make sure you also have an up to date alarm system as well!

There are a lot more things like a really good lender and a sellers disclosure (which I briefly talked about above)

Overall, please do your research and also it’s good to ask for advice from people in your life that own homes, but go with what your gut tells you. This is a huge purchase so you don’t want to regret anything because you can’t afford your mortgage and keeping up with your home. Me and my fiancé went into this confused and my fiancé did a lot of research and there were things we regret and wish we’d known. That’s why it’s always good to have a professional, full time realtor and you want them to be a hard ass because this is HUGE.

I hope I gave you some good advice lol my fiancé was the main person in this whole thing and I’ve watched and learned. Just please gain as much knowledge as you can in this and I hope you have some luck! When we were shopping it was a sellers market and they were listing homes At RIDICULOUS prices, more than what the homes are actually worth! And don’t get discouraged if you’re offer wasn’t accepted. This takes time and trust it will pay off ❤️

I'll Let the Seasons Change My Mind (3/10)

featuring: Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Kamek & Koopas

"Lu! Mail for you down here!"

Stretching out nice and big, Luigi releases a content sigh as he stirs from his sleep. The sun is out but not too bright, providing a nice warmth to the spot he'd been previously curled up in. Perfect, really, for him to just curl back up and sleep again…

"Luigi Mario, don't make me come up there!" Mario calls up again in Italian this time— Must be grumpy from the late night out, Luigi can't say that he blames him all that much. The Toadstools really know how to party!

Soon changing into fresh clothes and making his way downstairs, Luigi runs a hand through his hair as he retrieves the envelope from the table. Not a bill, he notes groggily.

He takes a seat, thumb sliding under the fold to carefully pry it open before taking out the letter within.

"Mr. Luigi Mario is hereby invited to Bowser Castle, which should currently be floating some distance above Mushroom Kingdom, accessible by pipe for ease of travel.

P.S., No need to be anxious: You're the only guest."

"No time…" Luigi mutters softly to himself, brows knit together as he turns over the sheet.

Mario lets out an inquisitive him, setting Luigi's breakfast in front of him. "For what?"

"I'm invited to Bowser's— It doesn't say when to go." He informs, handing the letter over to free up his hands and begin eating.

"Just go when you're done breakfast, eh?"

"I might seem too eager."

"Are you eager?"

Pausing, Luigi squints and playfully jabs his fork in his brother's direction. "Not-a the point."

Hands raising in defence, Mario chuckles as he leans back against the counter. "I think you should go soon as you can, spend the day with him… We don't have anything happening, anyway. Perfect timing!"

Humming, Luigi vaguely wonders whether Mario has any involvement in… whatever this is about, but ultimately decides to shrug it off and focus on eating.

Barely half an hour passes before he leaves home and finds the correct pipe, eyes widening in curiosity at the site of the castle he plops in front of, much different to the last time he'd… 'visited'. The stone exterior is lighter now, must have been cleaned, and the facade of Bowser's face is— inexplicably less intimidating. Though, that might just be his own changed perception of things. 

The land around is no longer completely barren; Still dark, yes, but the grass is beginning to grow and leaves are starting to sprout on the trees. Could do with some flowers…

Flapping his hands for a moment to let go of his anxious energy, Luigi blows out a breath before walking to the gigantic front doors and reaching up in an attempt to tug on the knocker— Not a hope in hell, unfortunately, due to his height.

Luckily, there are Koopas inside who somehow know he's there and work to open the doors from the inside. Unluckily, Luigi loses his balance in his attempt to reach and falls forward into the castle after failing to fix his footing. Lucky a second time, Kamek's magic prevents him from going face first into the floor.

"Mamma mia!" The plumber chuckles nervously as he's set right again, cheeks glowing an embarrassed red by the time his feet touch the ground again. Trust him to mess up just entering a place!

Familiar thundering footsteps are heard approaching the entrance hall, and Luigi watches curiously as the Koopas quickly bow their heads when Bowser comes into their vision.

"Luigi! You're just in time, come along!" He seems thrilled, if not a little nervous, and Luigi can't help a smile, waiting a moment for Kamek to finish dusting him off before jogging to join the King's side.

"What is happening, did you need me for something?" He questions, curious.

"Oh, no, no," A large clawed hand comes up to brush Bowser's fur back as he begins to lead their way through the halls— It looks soft, the way it bounces slightly with each step. Luigi wonders in the back of his mind if it'd be considered offensive to pet it… Hell, if their strange considering-things situation it offensive. Are interspecies relationships accepted and common here? "I wanted to show you something." Thank goodness he can still hear when his mind insists on wandering.

Even so, it's better to will himself to focus than hope he catches context. Whatever this is, it's clearly important to Bowser… He finds himself not wanting to miss out. "Oh ye?"

Nodding, the King stops their tracks in front of another set of doors, hands reaching towards Luigi. When he doesn't move away or show any sign of discomfort, Bowser uses them to carefully cover his eyes for whatever surprise is ahead— By the sound of things, he's using his tail to push the door open as he continues to guide the human ahead. Endearing, the plumber feels.

"Okay, keep your eyes closed…"

Luigi does as he's told, doing his best not to pay mind to how cold his face suddenly feels when Bowser's hands leave it.

"Aaand… open!"

Ever obedient to the wishes of others, he opens his eyes, and they immediately widen with amazement at the room he finds himself in. No overwhelming overhead sources of light, no colours too intense, comfortable furniture, books a-plenty, and… a bouquet of peonies in Bowser's grasp.

After so long living in his brother's shadow, Luigi has been seen. "How…?"

"I had Kamek do some research— And some magic…" The King admits sheepishly as he steps closer, tail swaying proud behind him while he looks over his fine work. "Do you like it? I thought you might prefer spending time somewhere tailored for you, rather than those big, loud parties."

Glancing over to Luigi, his eyes widen to find those beautiful blues beginning to tear up. "And, and it's alright if you don't like it, I can change it! Anything you want—" He's cut off by the plumber jumping up and clinging onto him in his best attempt at a hug considering their size difference.

"It is perfect, Bowser," Luigi manages to whisper, relaxing at the feeling of large arms coming around him to support him. "A perfect space to share with you."

Steadying his own breathing as to not start crying himself, Bowser lets out a relieved huff through his snout as he closes his own eyes. He had been prepared for Luigi to outright refuse, or accept on the condition of being alone… But he wants Bowser's company, if their last few anything interactions are anything to go by— Something that will take time to truly believe, but hearing it truly is enough to melt a previously hardened heart.

He’s not supposed to be crawling beneath his gorgeous date’s sink at 3:30 in the morning to fix the noisiest leak in all of Ireland, but the options were limited -  he could either repair the faucet himself or slowly go stark raving mad from the incessant sound of water against the bottom of the basin. And so he finds himself clad only in last night’s jeans as he wrestles with the shutoff valve hidden away in the farthest recesses of the cabinet, one hand reaching back to request the wrench he’d left on the countertop before he’d begun his spelunking expedition, waiting for Killian to place the tool in his outstretched palm. When all he receives is a joke from the Irishman who is looking on with a sort of disgruntled amusement, Guy emerges from beneath the sink with an arched brow and a smirk.

“I didn’t know you were the romantic hand-holding type.” The words are gently teasing, storm-blue eyes taking in the flush that stained the younger man’s cheeks before falling to rest upon the vivid marks that decorated Killian’s throat - marks he’d placed there himself not an hour before, when the sound of leaky faucets had been the furthest thing from his mind. “Let me get the water turned off and we can go back to bed.”

His upper body disappearing within the cabinet once more with the wrench in hand, Guy finds the valve that shuts off the water supply to the faucet, the corroded handle seized with rust and unwilling to twist even the slightest bit despite the added torque of the wrench, until… 

“Um…Killian? We have a little problem…”

“Aye, well..” Stubbled features flush the palest shade of pink, painted by a warmth that he can only hope is hidden by the shadows that decorate his now ... glaringly broken.. flat... and shoulders shrug, a half hearted and lazy thing as ringed fingers rub at the tension that’s suddenly settled along the back of his neck. “It’s usually the party trick that keeps me dates from turning into maintenance men in the middle of the night. Guess I should’ve brought it out a bit earlier during this one, yeah?” Teeth chew at a rum flavored bottom lip, worrying over a question that the Irishman isn’t sure he wants answered and as forget-me-not blues catch the way the other man’s gaze lingers along the swell of his throat, Killian shrugs once again, arms wrapping around his own torso as bare feet shift impatiently.

Fuck. Why is it so cold?

The shiver working its way through lean muscle has nothing to do with the fact he’s standing half dressed while the most handsome man he’s ever seen is attacking the pipes under the Irishman’s counter like he’s some sort of undercover plumber from the hastily written plot of a poorly made movie. Aye.. got the script a bit backwards, didn’t we? He grins at that, a huff of laughter that he’s ready to share in hopes it makes .. whatever the hell this night is .. salvageable... but before he can share the jest, can remind the other man that aye, his apartment might be shit .. but he’s funny...Guy’s voice announces an entirely new problem. The spray of water is fast and determined and as the first cold drops hit pale skin, Killian can’t help but let out a yelp of a swear, a gruff bark of frustration that serves as the only hint of a barely controlled temper. This is a fucking disaster...The words sit there on his tongue, heavy and loaded and ready to end whatever relationship might be blooming between them, but they stay firmly locked behind a clenched jaw. Instead, the younger man quirks a single brow, blue eyes flicking from the rapidly growing puddle on his floor to the wide eyed ones so akin in color to their own.

“Sorry, love.... but this isn’t really what I meant when I said shower sex, aye? But...” He reaches out then, fingers wrapping around the other man’s own and tugging him upwards until both are standing there, dripping wet and ... somehow... happy. “...you get points for trying. Would’ve been a higher score if it’d been warm.” Killian grins, a flash of a smile that changes his expression from that of a perturbed cat to something wide eyed and eager, temper forgotten in light of some new game. Fingers reach to tug at a lock of Guy’s hair that rests against his forehead, bedraggled and damp, in a way that says so much of what the Irishman doesn’t know hot to put into words. You’re beautiful. It sits there on the tip of his tongue, painted with the lingering flavors of rum and cheap beer...takes in the sight of the older man stand there, bare chested and broad shouldered in the moonlight, and practically begs to be let loose.. but Killian Jones is a stubborn man, and even plumbing misadventures aren’t enough to change that. 

“No chance this is easier to ignore than the dripping is there?”

“I can’t do this, Dave.”

Jack groaned and pressed his forehead against the brick wall. Davey, arms crossed and standing next to him, rolled his eyes. “Jack, we’ve gone over this ten times.”

Jack turned to look at him. “It’s been ten already?”

“Well, eleven.”

Jack ran a shaky hand through his hair. He shrugged, straightened his vest, adjusted his hat, dusted off his pants, did every little thing to smoothen out every single one of his rough, ragged edges. He took a deep breath of the cool afternoon breeze. “Do I look okay?” he asked.

“You look fine,” replied Crutchie, patting him on the back.

Jack tensed up. “Fine ain’t gonna cut it.”

“What he means to say,” Davey quickly interjected. “Is that you look ready.”

Jack was quiet. Was he ready, though? I mean, he had to be. He had been prepping for this day for over a month. He had dreamed of this! Of course he was ready!

“I don’t feel like it,” he mumbled, finding his voice.

Davey put a hand on Jack’s shoulder. “You’ll be fine,” he reassured. “The fact that you even prepared is more than enough. She’s gonna love it.”

Crutchie hummed in agreement. Jack grumbled and fixed his collar. Looking over Davey’s shoulder, he instantly tensed up. Whispering to his two friends and patting their backs, he quickly sent them away. They crossed the street, briefly smiling and waving at the approaching girl.

“Hey!” a chipper voice called. There she was, now taking her last few steps towards him; Katherine Plumber: his latest love, and his latest fear.

“Heya, Kat,” Jack replied, grinning. He held out his arm. “Shall we, Miss Plumber?”

Katherine giggled. “After you, Mister Kelly.”

As much as he was a nervous wreck behind his facade, he was genuinely glad that this day had come. It would just be them and the fire escape, plain and simple. No need to worry about the noise of the world below. What could possibly go wrong?

Not a lot, Jack prayed.

He led her up the rusted metal rails, slowing down to match her pace. As much as her long skirt and boots proved to be a nuisance, Katherine’s heart began to swirl with exhilaration. She had been up this way before, but the feeling of climbing so high up was still an adventure to her. As the ground grew further and further away, the more her heart pumped. 

“Well, here she is,” Jack spoke, swinging open a small metal gate. “Welcome to my “penthouse”.”

In reality, the area was rather small, just enough to fit two boys and a sack of belongings in the corner. But as soon as Katherine turned around, she quickly remembered where Jack got the name from. She was met with the sight of hundreds of buildings, probably even thousands, if she counted. She leaned forward on the railing. The last time she was here was under much different circumstances, and it was only now that she got to properly take in the view. All of them looked so proud and tall from the ground. It’s crazy how different things can seem when you put them in a new perspective, she realized.

“We’re so high up,” whispered Katherine.

“Yeah,” replied Jack.

Jack quietly joined her side, looking out into the skyline he knew so well. It was weird, he thought. He had seen this view thousands of times before, it became just another part of living here. But now, the water towers and the buildings and their big signs all seemed to have a new glow in the afternoon sun. But the sun couldn’t do much. Perhaps it was who he was with that made all the difference, and who shined brighter than the sun could ever hope to.

“It’s beautiful,” added Katherine, a smile tugging at her lips.

Jack turned to look at her. “Not as beautiful as you.”

She laughed, feeling heat quickly rush to her face. “Are you afraid of heights?”

“Would I be livin’ up here if I was?”

“Ha! Fair enough.”

“Are you?” asked Jack.

Katherine paused, then leaned closer to him. “Not anymore.”

Jack stayed still, even though his face was already flushed. Awkwardly clearing his throat, he gestured for them to sit down on a neatly laid-out blanket. She gave him an amusing look, but played along. “So,” he began, quickly changing the topic. “How’s work?”

“It’s been okay, just grabbing whatever story I can find,” replied Katherine.

“Anybody givin’ ya trouble?”

She shrugged. “Not really, actually. After I wrote about you and the boys, a lot of people started taking me more seriously.”

“Good,” said Jack. “It’s better than the ballet, ain’t it?”

“Anything’s better than the ballet.”

They laughed. Although they would never say it out loud, if you’d ask them, they would say that the other’s laugh could light up New York.

“How about you? How’s work?” asked Katherine, shifting in her place.

“Same old thing,” answered Jack. “The fellas are doin’ okay. Oh, and this mornin’, Finch hit one a’ the Delanceys in the head with his slingshot.”

She chuckled, eyes widening in surprise. “Really?”

“Yeah! Kid ran like hell, I tell ya.”

“Who was it, Oscar or Morris?”

Jack scratched his head. “Morris, I think.”

Katherine smiled to herself, her eyes distant for a brief moment. “You know, I went to kindergarten with them.”

Jack’s mouth gaped. “You know the Delanceys? You went to school with ‘em?”

“Yeah,” she laughed. “They were the biggest troublemakers. There wouldn’t be a day where they wouldn’t be in the time-out corner. Oh, and when both of them got into trouble, the teacher would put them on opposite ends of the room.”

“Sounds about right,” he remarked. As soon as she turned her head, Jack quickly hid the newspaper he was sketching on.

“How’s Crutchie doing, by the way?” she asked.

“He’s doin’ fine. Still smilin’ no matter what, if that’s what you mean. Folks are happy to see him back on the street. ‘S got loyal customers that got worried when he stopped showin’ up. That kid’s a ray a’ sunshine.”

“I’m sure.” Katherine’s heart softened, watching a warm smile creep up on Jack’s face at the thought of his best friend. She looked around. As simple as his humble abode was, she couldn’t help but be charmed. It was like his own little safe haven, a place that the noisy, messy world below could never reach. “When did you start living up here?”

He shrugged. “Probably one, two years ago?”

She nodded. “Why don’t you live in the Lodging House?”

“‘S mostly to give the other kids more room,” replied Jack. “Plus, nothin’ beats the view up here.”

“Oh, I’m sure.” Katherine stood up and looked back out into the city.

Jack noticed her long silence and looked up at her, the girl and her wonder-filled eyes, gazing at a city that was at her fingertips. Her father ran this town. He owned the biggest newspaper business in all the country. With that kind of power, she would have all sorts of friends in high spaces. Friends with big houses, fancy clothes, and money to burn. Right now, she could’ve been anywhere else, hanging with high society’s cream of the crop.

But she wasn’t, he realized. She was with him. Just another scrappy newsboy with a dream.

It was no secret that Katherine grew up much more differently than the newsies; the world was practically handed to her on a silver platter. She never had to want for much. She had money, status, and everything a girl could wish for. Her father was the wealthiest man in the whole city. But being up here, being with him, it was something she wouldn’t trade for anything her father could buy.

Jack quietly stood up beside her, and taking a breath, he threw a newspaper airplane, interrupting her trance. They smiled at each other, watching the high, crisp breeze carry it away. She folded another sheet and threw it off the fire escape, but it only got so far until it took a nosedive.

“At least it’ll be easier to find,” said Jack.

Katherine laughed. “I was never good at paper planes.” Her eyes caught sight of the World building, not too far away. “Say, have you thought about the job my father gave you?”

Jack stared at his own plane, still flying in the distance. “‘M plannin’ on takin’ it.”

Her face lit up. Jack could be illustrating for the papers, a job that would pay much more than hawking them. “Really?”

“Dunno how I’m gonna take it, though,” he added. “How’s it work? What, do I just walk in or somethin’ an’ tell ‘em I want the job?”

“I can arrange an interview for you,” she replied. A chill went down his spine. “I gotta talk to folks like them?”

Katherine put a hand on his shoulder. “You’re gonna be fine,” she gently said. “They know an artist when they see one. And don’t worry, they’re not gonna be super harsh.”

“Here’s to hopin’.” Jack sighed, seeing his paper plane finally hit a far-off wall and fall to the ground. They were quiet for a moment. He blinked, finding the courage to ask her something he’d been meaning to, for a while.

“Why me?” he asked.

She looked at him, raising an eyebrow. “What?”

He repeated the question, but she only gave him a confused look. He decided to rephrase. “Why do you hang around with me?”

“What do you mean “why”?”

“Why?” Jack repeated a third time. “Why me? You got lots’a other guys to choose from, they’s probably better than I’ll ever be. This kinda thing, it’s just- it’s never happened before.”

Katherine paused, giving him a tender look. “It hasn’t,” she began. “Even I’m surprised, to be honest. But, you know why. You were one of the first- only people to believe in me. And that means something. Not a lot of guys are like you, Jack.”

It was true. The strike gave them something to fight for that was much bigger than themselves. What only started as an effort to lower the price of newspapers gave light to the importance of the rights of New York’s working kids. And, in the midst of the whirlwind, they found each other. Just two kids fighting for what they believed in.

They didn’t say it, but a familiar, warm feeling began to form in their chests. It was there, in the wind that rushed past them, in the way they simply stood together, in the way he slowly reached to lace his fingers with hers. And it was there in their silence; though there wasn’t much to say, as young as they were, they understood.

Jack kissed her on the forehead and pulled her into a slightly swaying embrace. “For sure?” he whispered into her hair.

“For sure,” she mumbled into his chest. Her mind calmed while she listened to the beating of his heart.

“Your father ain’t too happy with us bein’ here.”

“He isn’t.”

“Does he know I climb the fire escape after work to see ya?”

“He does.”

“Good.”

They softly laughed. He wished things could stay like this forever. So did she.

Jack pulled away and held her hand. He picked up a bundle of newspapers and shoved them into his back pocket. “Let’s get you back ‘fore he sends the Bulls after me.”

Katherine chuckled. They went the same way they came, the city below growing louder and louder around them with every step. She’d almost forgotten how noisy these streets actually were. She was fine walking herself back to the World, despite Jack’s insistence to take her there. With a kiss and a wave goodbye, the two went their separate ways.

As soon as Jack rounded a corner, he exhaled deeply. He leaned on the brick wall and ran a hand through his hair, a smile creeping on his face. It felt like a dream; he managed to score a date, and with a girl like her. He wished she could’ve stayed longer, but at least he had those sketches he made of her.

But then, his eyes widened.

They weren’t there.

Meanwhile elsewhere, Katherine hadn’t gone too far away when she stopped, stepping on a newspaper airplane. And unfolding it, she couldn’t hold in her smile.

Writers note: this is my first fic, I've written before, but this is my first-time showing people, I hope @sugarglider9603 enjoys this took about three days :3

The group was walking through the large crowd, it was a busy time in the mushroom kingdom, but they wanted to go for a walk. So, they headed out. Virgil seamed slightly anxious about the crowd of people, but roman and logan assured him it was fine. Virgil slowed down when he seen some purple blankets in a window, but when he looked back to join the group, he found no one but Townsfolk. As Virgil started to feel a panic attack creep up his stomach, he knew he needed a place to calm down. He started walking trying to calm himself down. when he found an empty ally way, He took a seat on the ground before repeating his breathing exercises. ‘In for four, hold for seven, out for eight. In for four, hold for seven, out for eight.  In for four, hold for seven, out for eight.’   soon enough Virgil found his composure, he started to head out when he stopped, hearing the towns folk scream and then seeing them running in the other direction. He wanted to go and help his brother and boyfriend, but when he went to leave the ally way, he was stopped by an arm wrapping around his torso and arms from behind, before he could call for help a hand landed over his mouth. Virgil looked behind him to see bowcite looking at him with a chilling grin across his face, which caused Virgil to kick and give a muffled scream, clouded by the commotion outside the ally, he seen his brother cut through the crowd, yelling for Virgil, Virgil tried, he tried so hard to get his brothers attention but he never looked his way before going to fight more of bowcites minions who were attacking the town, Virgil was dragged off by bowcite, And all he could do was struggle to get free.

Logan had finished reassuring his brother before going for a walk, Patton was clinging to logans arm, which he really did not mind, and knowing his brother was okay with roman gave him a chance to truly to relax, they passed a few stores and made it to the fountain, roman and Patton sat down on it, while logan looked for his brother, but he found nothing “hey roman were-” he was cut off by a loud explosion, coming from the direction they just came. Logan started to fear for his brother, running back he yelled for him, while cutting through the crowd. “virgil! virgil were are you!” He couldn’t find him, worrying he went to fight whatever the cause of the attack was. By the time things settled he still could not find his brother, he tried to think what could have happen when he looked over to see a worried Patton and an angry Roman with a koopa down on the ground looking very scared by roman. Logan rushed over to see what was wrong, what he heard infuriated him. “bowcite took him! He was alone, the easiest target or something.” said the koopa, almost regretting it instantly, as roman looked at him with a rage the heat of hells fire itself. Patton was on the verge of crying, worrying for his anxious baking-buddy, and logan ,logan was already running to get his brother back, with more rage than Roman, not only that but fear rang in his heart, his stomach, every part of his body was full of fear for his brother, the only family he had left, the brother he promised to protect.

Virgil found himself chained to a pole in a cold, dimly lit cell, guarded by koopas. ‘Why am I here what could bowcite want from me?  will he torture me?  to get back at logan and I? What if-’ “hello there Virgil! Looks like your all tied up just how I wanted!” Virgil scoffed, and if looks could kill bowcite would be long gone. Virgil looked down to see a thick binder in bowcites hands. ‘You've got to be kidding me right now.’ Along with that thought was a face to match “logan finally did it, he hit you hard enough to make you lose your mind if you think I'll be marrying you.” said Virgil before a koopa put a gag around his mouth. “and you must be crazy if you think you have say In this” “you're not a prince but you're at least cute” said bowcite grabbing Virgil's chin to make him look him in the eyes. Virgil looked like he was pissed, really, he did but inside he was panicking, wishing his brother would burst through the doors to save him, but he wasn’t there, and Virgil was screaming inside for his brother, but still put up façade for bowcite. “now do you want a suit or dress?”

Logan ran not really thinking about it, mostly just fear and anger ran through his body. ‘What if they hurt him? If they hurt him, I swear- what if he has an attack and I'm not there? What if he's alone! -’

Logan was snapped out of it by an army of koopas and goombas coming towards him “shit,” he said out loud, that was a lot, even for him, “I need to get to Virgil!” he yelled before charging forward. Logan was in serious trouble, he was at a big disadvantage, and he knew it, but he needed to get to his brother. He got a few down but before he knew it, he was pinned to the ground, what was he going to do? He was stuck and no one was there to help him. The koopas got a few punches on logan before there thrown off by something, no, someone who logan could not make out, but he had an idea when he heard “off of him you heathens!” “roman?” logan said with a rough and tired voice, from running and the beaten he just got. “logan! Oh my, ar-are you okay?” roman said worried but also fighting bowcites minions. “y-yeah I think” logan said getting up, he was defiantly going to feel this in the morning, but right now adrenaline was all he felt, logan joined roman in the fight and about 20-25 minutes passed before they were finally done, tired and bruised, but they kept going, for Virgil.

Virgil felt tired, from panicking, but also from the amount of planning bowcite made him participate in. “now, all that’s left is your fitting, and because you’ve been so good, I'll have my minion's take you to a nice room for that” bowcite snapped his fingers, and two koopas grabbed Virgil, he didn’t try to struggle he was to tired, he needed more time to regain his strength. They left him to open the door, thinking he was to tired to do anything, wrong move. Virgil raced down the hall, he knew the castle well, from the amount of times he was there saving Patton or roman. He turned the corner to see something new, a large stair case with parts floating away over lava. ‘What is with him and lava!’ Virgil jumped from step to step, nearly missing one that was just an inch to far, he took a minute to calm himself, and kept going. He made it to the throne room, before being stopped by 13-15 koopas with bowcite behind them “where are you getting these!?” shouted Virgil from the other side. Bowcite shrugged, “get him, but don’t hurt him too much, we have a wedding in a few.” smirking, he watched as Virgil struggled to hold his own, before he was pinned down by four koopas, and surrounded by five. “all of you get him fitted, and do not Let him go!” bowcite watched as they took a kicking and screaming Virgil away before going back to decorating.  

Virgil hated this, he hated everything about this, but the closer it got the harder it was to keep calm, the harder it was to no tear up, it was harder not to want for the sweet smell of patts kitchen, the great embrace of his amazing boyfriend, and logan, his Brilliant brother, the only one who really knew what he had gone through, he wanted it all back, he wanted to wake up and this all be a dream, but, he knew it wasn't, so when all the koopas left to wait outside, he broke, he sat down in a big puffy wedding dress he was forced into. He hurt emotionally and physically, those koopas can really pack a punch, his bare shoulders hurt but the bruises had yet to show up. When he finally ran out of tears to shed, he heard a knock, standing up quickly, he grabbed the sheets of the bed to wipe his now ruined makeup, when three koopas came in one fixed his makeup and the other put him in big heavy chains, almost pulling the small plumber down. He was then dragged out by them, to slowly make his way to his ‘husband to be’.

Logan and roman had a feeling, one that was digging into them, they were losing time. On what, the boys had no idea, but they knew it was serious. As time went on, they got faster and faster, they felt like a timer was above their head, telling, no, screaming at them to hurry before it was to late. “logan, I swear I can feel it we need to go faster!” “I know roman! I'm trying, but what if were already to late, what if-” “get that thought out of your head right now! He’s okay! We're not to late I can feel it!” logan let out a shaky sigh and they sped up. They finally made it, but the castle looked more like a prison. Koopas were surrounding the castle, with a mote of lava surrounding the palace. As well as large spikes behind the koopas, so no one could climb out. “oh.my.god you have got to be kidding me, logan are you seeing this?” logan seen it, but he didn’t feel the same way as roman, he was calculating wondering if his brother tried to escape and that’s why it looked like this. Or if it was to keep them out, logan was completely gone from the conversation. “logan!” “gah! Roman wh-what?” logan jumped from the tone in romans voice but then realized why. The koopas noticed them and were heading their way “shit”

Virgil was now being dragged down the long hall to the throne room. ‘Don’t freak out Virgil your fine logan is on his way, it's okay.’ He didn’t know how much more he could take, with tears threatening to spill, he held his head high and put on a face of annoyance, but inside he was a mess. He just wanted to be with his family. Before he knew it, he was being lead down the aisle, almost tripping over the over-extravagant dress he was shoved in. The music was playing and Virgil was slowly losing his grip on his façade, he was scared and it was getting really close, to close.

Logan and roman finally finished off all the koopas, beaten and bruised, they didn't think they could make it much farther, they only had one power up left, a fire flower. They tried to run, but it was hard, when they made it to the door, they heard wedding music. They had an idea on what was happening, logan absorbed the fire flower and they kicked the door in simultaneously.

Virgil's heart and mind were racing, as the words were filling the room, he looked around to see he danger noodles smiling and bouncing in their seats. Guards at every exit, and his brother, no were to be seen, he couldn’t hold it in any longer he felt tears rolling own his face. All bowcite could do was smirk, he was so close. "if anyone has and objections, now would be the time to speak up-”  

“WE FUCKING OBJECT!”

A loud bang echoed through the room, as the large doors were slammed open knocking out the guards next to them. Virgil, through his tears, seen his angry boyfriend and brother. A small smile could be seen through the gag ‘they made it they really made it!’ logan threw a fire ball at bowcite, barely missing him. Bowcite roared and Virgil was picked up and thrown into a small cage. It was so fast Virgil could barely comprehend what was happening before the cage was being lifted to the air, with Virgil looking down at his frightened brother and boyfriend.

“BOWCITE!”  logan yelled, he was not messing around. Roman noticed the cage was shaking, taping logan he pointed to it. “we have got to wrap this up fast lo” the shaking cage only made logan angrier, if that was even possible at this point. He threw 3 fire balls at once before roman hit bowcite with his sword and they both punched him, and before he could do anything, logan grabbed the remote for Virgil's cell, and threw bowcite through a lot of walls. Logan lowered the cage, roman ran over slashing at the lock and swinging open the door, what he saw broke his heart, the love of his life was shaking in the corner with his hands pulling at his hair, and a gag that looks almost chewed through, and makeup running down his face with the tears, but when Virgil saw roman, he perked up reaching his hands out for him. Roman quickly got rid of the chains and gag. “r-roman!” Virgil cried and without realizing it, he was throwing himself at the prince. “hey my stormy knight, your okay, its okay, your safe” roman picked up Virgil bridal-style and carried him to his worried brother. “lo-logan?”Virgil barely looked up from romans shirt, which he was clinging to at the moment. “virg, they didn't hurt you, did they?” virgil shook his head no,(even though they did) and reached over to hug his brother, and logan reached back, they stayed like that until virgil passed out from exhaustion.

When virgil woke back up he was changed out of the giant dress, and in sweat pants and his hoodie, with roman asleep next to him and logan pacing with Patton trying to calm him down. “logan?” Virgil's voice was raspy and it startled logan and Patton, and roman was woken up by it, but they calmed down and logan couldn't keep his emotions in anymore and he teared up and went to kneel next to his brother. “v-virgil, I'm so sorry, I'm so, so sorry.” virgil looked confused but his body was to soar to move. "lo- no, I-I it's not your fault” roman had sat up a little with his arm around Virgil's waist with a worried expression and Patton joined logan in kneeling. Virgil gave a soft smile and logan couldn't help but cry and hug his brother, virgil forced his muscles to work to hug is brother back before they were all in a pile of hugs and tears, happy tears.

“Hello, thank you for calling I-net service provider twelve customer support. How can I help you today?” Tuïf bent the left half of his sleek white company issue headset, feebly hoping the wires inside would reconnect. He had put in a repair ticket almost two months ago, and nothing had come of it.

“Yeah, my I-net isn't working.” he heard in his right ear. “It was fine three days ago but n-” Tuïf was startled by a loud burst of static in his left ear, and the call was suddenly in stereo. “-ust not working anymore!” he heard the customer finish.

“Can I have your name and CIN, please?” Tuïf requested, opening a new event form.

“Derik Juünz, zero zero zero four, nine one seven A, F F two two, zero zero B D.”

“And just to confirm, that was Derik Juünz, zero zero zero four nine one seven A F F two two zero zero B D, correct?” Tuïf said as he entered the data into the form.

“What, you got a hearing problem?” Tuïf winced as another burst of static sent the call back to mono.

“I’m just following procedure.” He reached for his cup of Earl Gray as Derik began informing him once more that his I-net was down.

“Well, let's see what we can do. Could you please find your modem for me?” Tuïf asked.

“What’s that?” Derik asked in return. Tuïf let out a sigh.

“It should be a small box with buttons and lights on it, with a NSNI cable connecting it directly to your wall.”

“What’s an NSNI cable?” Incredible. Tuïf was starting to doubt this guy had ever seen a computer before a few days ago.

“It stands for Nova Standard Network Interface cable. The head is shaped like a rectangle with a small divot on one side.” Tuïf heard some shuffling on the other end, including the sound of something falling and Derik cursing, before he returned.

“Okay, I’ve found the modem.”

“Thank you.” Tuïf said, wondering why he was thanking him. Oh right, procedure.

“Now, there should be a few lights on it. One of them should be labeled ‘I-net’. Can you tell me if it’s on?”

“Yes.” Derik replied. “I mean no, it's not on.”

“Okay, can you unplug the NSNI cable, please?”

“Sure.” As Tuïf waited for Derik to unplug the cable, he looked up his house on the distribution monitor. The system said he was receiving I-net, so it was almost definitely a problem on Derik’s end.

“Okay, I unplugged it, and now all the lights are off.” Tuïf lifted his hands from his keyboard and tensed them in frustration.

“Derik, that was the power cord.”

“Oh.” There was silence as derik seemed to think for a moment. “What should I do?” he finally asked.

“Plug it back in, please.” Tuïf took a swig of his tea and looked at the call timer. Six minutes? Really? It felt like an eternity.

“Okay, it’s plugged back in, and I unplugged the other thing.” At least he had the common sense to do that.

“Okay, now, look at the connector. Does it seem to be damaged or discolored in any way?”

“Nope.” Well, it wasn't the cable. Most likely something went wrong in the modem itself.

“Okay, now, there should be a button on the back that says ‘test’. Can you press it for me?” Tuïf waited for a full minute. “Derik? Are you still there?”

“I can't find it!” he shouted angrily, just as the wires in the left half of Tuïf’s headset reconnected, giving an extremely loud static burst.

“It should be red and about the size of your thumb, assuming you're a human.” Tuïf removed his headset’s left bud from his ear, deciding that occasional stereo audio wasn’t worth the pain.

“I still can't find it. Are you sure you know what you're talking about?” Tuïf felt a growl rising in his throat, and he took a sip of tea to drown it.

“Derik, there should be a serial number on the bottom of the box. What does it say?”

“Uh, hold on...” Derik instructed. “It’s um... I R seven seven zero two M Esh L five zero nine nine eight.” Tuïf muted his microphone and let out a frustrated snarl. Having got most of his anger out, he unmuted his microphone.

“Derik, that’s your router.”

“What?”

“Your router isnt your modem.” Tuïf chugged the rest of his tea. He diddnt care that he wouldnt be able to get more until the end of his shift.

“You told me it was the box with the buttons and the lights!” Derik yelled angrily.

“Yes, the one connected directly to the wall.”

“But this one is connected directly to the...” He trailed off as he seemed to remember that he had mistakenly identified the power cord as the network cable. “Uh, anyway, I found the modem.” Tuïf once more began to regurgitate his script.

“There should be a light on it labled ‘I-net’. Is it on?”

“Yes.” Derik replied.

“Then the problem is not with any of your equipment. There is something wrong with your router, which I cannot help you with, as it is not one of our devices.”

“This is unbelievable!” Derik yelled, prompting Tuïf to attempt to lower the call volume, only to remember it was already at minimum.

“You waste all my time just to tell me you can’t fix my I-net? Why can't you fix it?” Tuïf tried to think of a way to explain that this simply wasn't his job.

“I have an analogy for you.” he said eventually.

“What is it?” Derik asked, venom in his voice.

“Your window is cracked, and you have called a plumber to fix it. Do you understand?” He thought for a moment.

“But that can't be right! Modems and routers or whatever are both I-net things!”

“And windows and plumbing are both house things.” Tuïf retorted. “Do you understand now?” There was a click as Derik hung up.

“Well fuck you too.” Tuïf muttered as he ended the call. He only had a minute to himself before his headset rang again, likely with another mindless customer on the other end.

Across Another Dimension Ch.28

The red shaped hat ship arrive in a large snowy town filled with snow and ice. The entire gang wore a winter outfit. They all exited the red shape hat.

"We have now arrived in the Snowy place known as the Shiver City, the city community blanketed in snow. Our destination is Shiver, the coldest and wintered community in the coldest land." Cappy said, before turning back into Panchito regular red cap.

“Wow, it’s really cold in here.” Princess Della comments, wearing a winter dress.

“You betcha.” Louie agree.

“Well, we need to find those blue sharp before they do. Vámonos!” Panchito told them.

The gang are hiking through a snowy mountain . Panchito is checking the map. They know where they going, to the Crystal Palace, it was never be used since Panchito and his teammates defeated Crystal King and free the last Star Spirit. They believe that the blue sharp must be in the Crystals Palace. The hero's made their way into a Shiver town. It was rather bustling for its size, and travelers from all walks of life poured into it. "Let's head for the tavern." asserted Panchito. "We get food and information about the blue sharp."

"It's a win win." nodded Princess Della.

"Sound great, let's move." said Boy Princess Donald. The team went in and claimed one of the long tables.

"Greetings!" bellowed a chubby one. He grinned through his scruffy grey mustache. "The name's Marco! Welcome to my café. Shivering Café!"

Princess Della rested her head in her hand and groaned, "This guy has wayyyy too much energy for my emotions right now. Whatever."

"Can I start you off with something to drink?"

"Waters all around," said Boy Princess as the others nodded.

"Ahhhh travelers always keep it simple!" exclaimed Marco.

"Do you have to yell every time you speak?" questioned Scrooge McDuck.

Marco straightened his apron, "Yes! It promotes enthusiasm!"

"And deafness," muttered both Huey and Huey.

The man dashed off and grabbed the waters in an instant.

Marco handed everyone a menu, "What will you all be having today?"

Donald peered down at the menu...which read:

"Food?..." wondered Boy Princess as he searched for any other words on the menu.

"Food it is!" cheered Marco. "Excellent choices!" He ran off to fix the meals as the team planned their next move.

"Is he high?" Princess Della ask. "Don't know if he on high or something. Anyway, we need to make to plan to get the blue sharp, who know what that is waiting for us once we reach it." Panchito grinned.

"You’re right Panchito. We must prepare case is there a fight." Panchito replied as everyone replied with a nodded and that when Marco returned with food.

"Meal time!" he proclaimed while placing the dishes on the table. "Yum yum yum! Ooo la la! Mm mm mmmm!"

"Oh brother," cursed both Louie and Louie as they slammed their head on the table. It was the most random meal any of them had ever had. On their plates rested a loaf of bread, an apple, and a chicken drumstick. Super Caballeros, Panchito, the children, Scrooge McDuck, Launchpad, and Gyro shrugged and ate up. While Donald, Boy Princess Donald, Mrs. Beakley, Fenton, Huey, and Storkules took their time to butter their bread while Princess Della destroyed her drumstick.

After their meal, the team proceeded to leave the tavern. They began buy some supplies from the store. They continue to hike through a snowy forest. Panchito look at the map, "we're right here and the castle is alllllll alway here." Panchito said.

"I wish there a warp pipe around here." Princess Della complain.

"Us too," the children agree.

"Don't give up now, we have to get to Crystal Palace to get the blue sharp before they do." Panchito replied. He keep his hope up and never give up. They continue walking in the snow. But suddenly, a marsh giveaway and they all plummeted down with the rubble, disappearing into the darkness below them. They all yelled a little as they were falling, they fell into an ice cave. Luckily, they didn't get hurt or got injuries but unfortunately, they went separate ways.

Panchito slowly opened his eyes in the darkness. There was a ringing in his ears as she coughed up dust. He analyzed his surroundings. The only light amidst the inky blackness emanated from glowing crystals. "How beautiful," whispered the red plumber. "I mean...we're trapped underground but how beautiful."

Both Jose and the Boy Princess groaned and sat up next to him, "Wha-...what happened?" He looked around through the darkness. "How far down do you think we are?"

"No idea." Panchito cupped his hands and called out, "Kids! Donald! Anyone!" His words went unheard, and echoed throughout the caverns.

Boy Princess Donald stepped forward. "Let's find out where these tunnels lead. It's our best bet at finding everyone else." Something rustled in the crystals above, prompting Boy Princess to grasp and release an ice beam. "Relax," said Jose. "We'll do this together." He smiled and led the way.

"Wonder how long this goes on for," whispered Panchito.

"I don't want to think about it," replied Boy Princess. "Let's focus on the positive."

"We have each other."

"Exactly!" He glanced over at the royal duck, "And I wouldn't have it any other way."

Panchito faintly smiled at the pink duck, "Neither would I." Both the Super Caballeros reached over to hold him hand, making him shudder.

"You alright?"

"Yes...I just..."

"We wouldn’t bite," winked Jose.

Princess Della rubbed her sore head in the blackness. "Panchito? Jose? Anyone?..." Her eyes creaked open to spot the triplet knelt down by some glowing crystals. Hues of green, blue, and purple reflected across her. "Boys?" she asked. "Are you Alright?" Princess Della ask as she help the boys to get up. "Yeah, I'm alright," Huey replied as he wipe off the snow off of him.

She clenched her fists, "Right. Let's get out of here and find the other."

The boys cringed at her words, observing an entire assortment of glowing caverns. "Which way is that?"

Princess Della took a deep breath, "The right has the most light. That's got to be a good thing, right?"

"I sure hope so," Dewey said as they ventured inside.

"I hope we wouldn’t get lost in here forever.” Louie groan.

“You said it me.” Other Louie sigh.

Donald awakened from his daze, only to get shakes by Panchito. "Aaaagh! Okay! Okay!" he writhed, he got on of his feet's and check his surroundings, "Where the heck are we?"

Manny began tapping his hoof. "I think we're in a cave? But where are the others?"

"I don't know, Manny." Donald reply as he groaned.

"Right, let's just follow this tunnel." The mexican rooster landed on the saddle and pointed forward, "Onward, Manny!" Manny got Panchito off of his saddle as he put his arm on his waist and began tapping his foot, "what did I look like a horse? Let us walk and find the others." The horse suggestions as he walk with Donald and Panchito.

Scrooge, Gyro, Lil Bulb, Fenton, Mrs. Beakley, Storkules, Launchpad and Webby jogged further into the crystal caverns, eventually stopping for a breather. "It just keeps going...and going." panted Gyro.

"We need to keep moving if we want to find the others." assured Mrs. Beakley.

"If we keep following the gems, they may light the way out of here...or lead us deeper." thought Scrooge as he pointed at a series of glowing pairs. They emit an eerie clicking sound. "Alright...that was creepy."

Mrs. Beakley plucked a glowing gem from the wall and threw it into the blackness. She gasped as it revealed the pairs to be eyes. There crawled a horde of hard-shelled insects as big as them, it was a ice spider, the protector of the ice cave. Mrs. Beakley shrieked, "Run!" The two dashed down the tunnel, listening to the swarm skittering behind them. They could hear the spider creatures snapping and clicking around. The mighty hero spun around and punch the giant spider. Much to his dismay, he bounced off of the insect's shells.

"I hate bugs!" Mrs. Beakley exclaimed.

"Come on!" Scrooge whacked a bug back with a snowball. The gang then grabbed Storkules by his hand and continued to run away. They slipped on a puddle and went sliding down. They crashed into Super Caballeros, Boy Princess Donald and Donald, Panchito Many, Princess Della, and the children, feeling both rejoiced and terrified.

"Guys!" cheered Donald.

"Bugs! Bugs! Bugs bugs buuuugs!" shrieked the groups.

Memories ~ A Case of Christmas Part 1

Summary: Spending Christmas with Bobby and the brothers on a ghost hunt proves difficult when Dean and Sam start fighting and you get caught in the middle.

Sam had almost given up on Dean coming back to the motel that night.  Dean had stormed out hours ago and Sam was sure he ended up at the bar down the street.  For that matter, he was probably in some girl’s bed by now. 

Sam was almost asleep when he heard his cell ringing.  He opened one eye to check the caller ID, surprised to see Bobby's cell number.  “Hi, Bobby.  What’s going on?”  Sam asked, a little groggy.

“I got a little ghost case up here in the mountains if you and Dean can spare some time.”  Bobby started.

“Aren’t you up there with Y/N and her dad?”  Sam asked, confused.  He had talked to you a few days before and you told him about going to spend Christmas with your dad and Bobby at some cabin in the woods that your dad had borrowed from his partner for a few days.

“Sort of, but it’s just me and Y/N now.”  Bobby said, watching you on the porch reading a book through the kitchen window.  “Her dad just left to go to work.  She said she’s fine, but I can tell she’s pretty disappointed.  I thought maybe you guys could come work this case and stay here at the cabin for a couple of days.  Cheering people up is more your department.”  Bobby explained and Sam chuckled.

“I don’t know how much help we are going to be.   Dean’s pretty peeved right now and you know what that means.”

“Yeah, I know.  It would mean a lot though.  I’ll have a talk with him if I have to.” 

“Okay, Bobby.  I’ll see what I can do.”

“Thanks, Sam.”

The following day, you were bringing a few pieces of wood to start a fire in the fireplace when you heard a familiar rumble.  You looked up to see the impala pull into the driveway, her black shimmer in strong contrast to the white snow all over the ground.  You set the wood down, a smile on your face at the sight of your best friend climbing out of the passenger seat.  As you walked up and told both of them hello, Sam reached down and hugged you tight.

“What are you guys doing here?” 

“Well, we found out about this ghost hunt in the town just south of here and thought we’d come by.”  Sam told you, trying to sound like the whole thing was accidental.  You glanced back at the cabin and saw Bobby roll out onto the porch.

“Bobby called you.”  You said plainly.  Sam nodded.

“He did, but there really is a ghost.”  He told you, blushing a little.

“I’m glad you’re here.”  You admitted.  “Come on inside.” 

The brothers followed you inside, grabbing the wood you had been carrying earlier.  Sam worked on getting a fire started while Dean took their bags into the bedrooms.  You glanced over at Bobby and mouthed a ‘Thank you’ to him and you were certain you saw him smile before he turned back to the papers he was reading.

You sat down on the floor near where Sam was stoking the flames in the fireplace.  “So, tell me about this case.” 

Sam began explaining how there were a lot of mysterious deaths all surrounding this one family.  It all began when the husband died about a month back.  Ever since then, anyone male that came near the house ended up dead.  It had started with the priest, who offered grief counseling.  Next it was the neighbor who helped the widow with cutting up some limbs in the yard.  The most recent was a plumber who had been hired to fix the pipes under the kitchen sink.

Every once in a while, Sam’s explanation would be interrupted by some snarky remark from Dean, who had come back out and was sitting at the kitchen table.  You could feel the hostility he had directed toward Sam.  Each time Dean said anything, Sam just looked down.  He was trying his best not to fight with Dean while they were here.  After the third comment, Bobby reached over and pushed Dean’s shoulder to get his attention and whispered to him to knock it off.

“Sounds like a jealous husband that doesn’t want to take a chance his wife will find someone new.”  You volunteered. 

“That’s what I thought too.”  Sam told you.

“Well, let’s go talk to the wife and find out where hubby is buried.  We can salt and burn the jerk and be on our way.”  Dean said.

“Actually, I was going to take Y/N with me to do that.  People react better to her anyway.”  Sam said.  He had seen people warm up to you instantly on several hunts that you had gone on with them.

“What’s that supposed to mean?”  Dean asked, suddenly defensive.

“Come on, Dean.  You’re angry.  You’ve been angry for days.”  Sam told him.  You could hear the tension in Sam’s voice.  He was beginning to lose patience with his brother’s sour demeanor.

“Whatever.”  Dean mumbled, throwing his hand up and started down the hall.

“Dean…”  You called out to him.  He stopped at the doorway.

“It’s fine.  Just go.”  He told you without turning around.  His voice not as hostile as it had been with Sam.  He wasn’t angry at you, after all.  You glanced back at Sam, who gestured for you to follow him out to the car.  Sam walked out of the front door and Dean marched down the hall to the bedroom.

“Just ignore him, Kiddo.”  You heard Bobby tell you.  You walked over to him.

“I’m trying.”  You answered, feeling defeated.  You hated to see them fighting like that after everything they had been through lately.  “Do you want anything from town?”  You asked, putting your hand on his shoulder. 

“No, I think we have everything here.”  Bobby answered, reaching across his chest to pat your hand with his own.

As you climbed in the car, Sam turned and faced you.  "I'm sorry about Dean."  He said.

"What's going on with you two?"

"I don't know.  He's been like that for days.  I get the feeling like he still thinks all of this is my fault."  Sam admitted.

"I'm sure he doesn't think that, Sam."  You tried to sound encouraging. 

"I hope your right."  He said, without much conviction.  "Hey, could you hang on to something for me?  Just keep it safe?" 

"Of course."  You told him.  Sam reached in his jacket pocket and put the Samulet in your open hand.  "Is this...?"

"Dean's...yeah."  Sam replied.  He explained the trip they took through Heaven and how Dean had thrown it away at the hotel after.  "I guess I am just hoping that one day, he will wish he hadn't done that."

"I'm sure he will.  I know this means a lot to both of you."

"Well, until then, I don't want him to know I took it out of the trash and kept it.  It would only make things worse."  Sam told you.  You nodded in understanding.

"I'll hang on to it until then."  You told him, closing your fist around it.  Sam smiled in thanks and the two of you drove off to talk with the wife.

Several hours later, you walked back in the cabin with Sam.  Bobby had just set dinner down on the table and you both sat down with him and Dean.

“So, did you get rid of the Ghost of Christmas past?”  Dean asked, still a little snide.

“Not exactly.”  You started, “Seems that her husband was cremated, but there was one very personal item that went to his best friend, Bart; A leather banded watch that he apparently never would replace since it was a wedding present from his father.” 

“We found out that a few of the guys he used to work with, including Bart will be at the bar tonight.  We are going to go back into town and try and catch them there.”  Sam added.

“You coming with us tonight?”  You asked Dean.

“You’ll have to stop being a Scrooge.”  Bobby popped off to him, giving you and Sam the clue that Dean had been sour the entire time the two of you had been gone.  Dean glared over at Bobby.

“You don’t have any place to tell me or Sam what to do.”  He told Bobby and got up from the table and marched out the door.  You got up to follow him, but Bobby put his hand on your arm.

“It’s ok.” 

“No its not, Bobby.” You said forcefully, and followed Dean. 

“What’s gotten into you?”  You asked, more concerned than irritated as you stepped out onto the porch.

“Nothing.”  Dean said gruffly as he continued to walk away.  You ran down the steps and grabbed his arm to turn him back around to face you.

“It’s not nothing.  You and Sam have been bickering since you got here, before that according to Sam.  You’re angry and impatient.  Everyone can see that something is going on.  Now what is it?”  You pleaded with him.

“Look, me and Sam fight once in a while.  It’s no big deal.”  He began, but you shook your head. 

“No big deal?”  You repeated back to him in disbelief. “If it was no big deal, then why are you being such a jerk?”

“He lied, Y/N.  Don’t you get that.  He’s been lying to me and hiding things for months.”  Dean snapped, a little harsher than he intended.

“Oh, and you never do?”  You snapped back.  Dean didn’t say anything, your tone surprising him.  “And what about Bobby?  What are you snapping at him for?”

“It doesn’t matter.”  He said under his breath and started away from you again.

“You’re going to say yes.”  You whispered as the realization of what he was doing caught up to you.  Dean stopped, but didn’t turn around.  His shoulders sank.

“Are you going to try and stop me too?”  He asked, cynically.

“Would it do any good?”  You threw back at him.  Dean paused, and you saw him shake his head.

“Probably not.”  He admitted calmly, once again turning to face you.  You saw the anger gone, replaced with something else.  Fear maybe, hurt probably.  You walked the five steps until you were standing in front of him again.  He just watched, his eyes searching yours.

“Do I like the idea?  Of course not.  I don’t like how any of this is going down, but we are all facing the apocalypse whether we like it or not.  I don’t know what the right thing is, but you pushing everyone away like this isn’t going to help anything.” 

“I’m not….” Dean started, but stopped at the look on your face.

“You can’t make them hate you.  All you are going to accomplish is to make them think you hate them.  Is that really what you want?”  You asked tenderly.  Dean sighed.

“No."  He answered honestly.  "I’m just so angry all the time.  I can’t stop it.  It seems like everything I’ve done in the last few years has just blown up into this.  Every time I try to fix it, I only end up making things worse.  I don’t know what to do anymore.”  Dean admitted to you, running his hand through his hair in frustration.

It took you a minute to regain your thoughts.  Dean had caught you completely off guard by what he had said.  You had never seen this side of him before, although Sam had told you about some of the things that had happened in the last few years, Dean never would say a word.  He never wanted you to look at him like he was evil, like he looked at himself.

“You and Sam carry so much guilt around with you.  You have to find some way to let go of it once in a while." 

“I don’t know how anymore.” 

"Try to have a little fun once in a while, get out of your own head.  All of this is going to end up eating you alive if you don’t.  You'll forget what you were fighting for in the first place.”  You offered.

Dean chuckled at the thought.  The idea of fun was so foreign to him now.  He had been diving head first into every hunt he could to keep himself from thinking too much about the choices him and Sam had to make.

“You and Sam will find a way to beat this.  I believe in you.  It’s going to be okay.”  You added when he didn't say anything else,  Without realizing what you were doing, you reached out, taking his hand in yours.  Dean glanced down at your hand in his and smiled back at you. 

“Just keep telling me that, will you?” Dean asked, pulling you to him.  When he did, he just held you for a moment, not wanting to let go. 

The closeness between the two of you at that moment surprised you a little.  Although you had been hunting on and off with the Winchesters since the Vampire hunt a few years ago, it had always been Sam that you were close with.  You and Dean got along fine, but he was always “Sam’s brother” and you were just “Sam’s friend”.  Whatever door was opened between you, you silently hoped that it stayed that way. 

Later that evening, the three of you sat at the bar in town when Bart and his friends came into the bar. 

“Look, he has it on his wrist.”  Sam said, pointing to the watch you had seen the deceased husband wearing in the pictures at the house.

“Ok, let’s go get it.”  Dean said, planning on fighting all of his friends if need be.  Sam put his hand on Dean’s arm when he started to get up.

“There is a easier way to get it, if you have some patience.”  You began, glancing over at the group of single guys, your eyebrow raised.

“You don’t have to do that.”  Sam protested.

“Might be fun.  If it doesn’t work, Dean can always bash him over the head.”  You teased a little, glancing over your shoulder at Dean.  Dean just rolled his eyes, a little grin on his face.  “Be right back.”

You got up and walked over to the bar, leaning over the counter right next to where the guys were sitting.  Dean and Sam watched as Bart noticed you, slapping his friend on the chest and pointing you out to him. 

You ordered three beers, and shot a quick smile at Bart while you waited for the bartender to bring you your drinks.  That was all he needed.  Bart slid down to the stool next to where you were standing and stuck out his hand to you.

“Are you here alone?”  He asked, and you shook your head.

“No, I’m here with my brothers.  We are driving through to our parent’s house and just wanted to get out of the car for a little while.”  You told him in a sweet voice. 

“I’m glad you decided to stop here.”  Bart told you, his eyes glancing quickly down your legs and back up, pausing on your chest.

“Me too.”  You said with a little giggle.  You grabbed the beers from the bartender and started walking back to the table.  You could feel Bart watching you and you threw a smile back over your shoulder at him.

“Here you go, brothers.”  You teased.  Sam and Dean both looked up at you confused.  “Well, what was I supposed to say?  You are my bodyguard hunter friends?”

“I don’t like this.”  Dean told you. 

“Its fine.  Just keep his friends busy.”  You said just before Bart and his friends reached the table.  He introduced his two friends as Joe and Lonnie. 

“So, where do your mom and dad live?”  Bart asked, trying to make conversation.

“Mom and Dad?  What the hell....?”  Dean told him, confused why that would make him ask that question.

“You’ll have to excuse my eldest brother.”  You interrupted, kicking Dean under the table.  “Dean has been a little uptight about our mom getting remarried.  He doesn't like to refer to the new guy as dad.”  You told Bart, quickly trying to recover.

Bart seemed to believe you and the three of them sat down at the table.  Sam engaged them in conversation about football, giving you an opportunity to flirt with Bart.  He seemed like a pretty nice guy, and he wasn’t bad looking either.  This was going to be more fun for you than you wanted to admit.  After a few minutes, you offered to get shots.  You walked back up to the bartender.

“I need to get shots for the table over there, but I have a special request if you would be open to it.”  You began.

“I’m listening.”  The bartender said, wiping his hands off on a towel.

“There’s a hundred dollar tip in it for you if you fill my shot glass with water and let them think it’s Patron.”  You said, holding up a hundred dollar bill.  The bartender glanced back at the table and shrugged.

“You got a deal.”  He said, putting your money in his pocket.

You took a tray of shots back to the table, all Jack except for your “fake” Patron.  A round of cheers went up as you all clinked the glasses and downed the shots of alcohol.  You made sure to close your eyes and tighten the muscles in your throat to make it look like your shot had a bite to it and none of them was the wiser. 

As the night went on, Bart got drunker, as did his friends.  Bart started doing what you had been waiting for, slipping his hand under the edge of your shirt and letting it linger on your lower back.  You pretended to have the watch caught in your hair a couple of times before turning his wrist in your hands.

“What are you doing?”  He asked.

“I’m just going to slide this off so you can keep doing what you are doing and it won’t get caught in my hair.”  You said, looking up at him through your eyelashes.

“I don’t want to lose it.  It belonged to my friend.”  He slurred a little.

“Just put it in your pocket.”  You suggested.  He nodded, letting you undo the strap and slipping it in his jeans pocket.   

When you asked Bart to dance with you, his friends challenged Sam and Dean to a pool game.  Even though Sam and Dean had walked off to try and win some money playing pool with Bart's friends, they protectively never took their eyes off of you.

As the two of you walked out to the dance floor, you asked him to hold your money in his pocket and he agreed.  You made sure to slide it in the same pocket as the watch.

After the dance, you led Bart back to the bar and fed him some more shots, still drinking the “fake” Patron.  Within an hour, he was so drunk he could barely stand.  He swayed a little, leaning back against the bar and you put yourself in front of him, your legs between his knees. 

You reached for his front pocket and he looked at you confused.  “What are you doing?”  He asked.

“I just want to get my cash to put some money in the jukebox.”  You said sweetly. 

When you pulled out your money, you took the watch with it and quickly put it in your own jeans pocket.  You took out your phone and text Sam “5 min”, then walked over to the jukebox.  You pretended to pick a song, glancing back to see Bart lay his head down on the bar.  When you were sure he wasn't looking, you snuck out the back door.  As you turned and headed across the lot to the impala, you came face to face with the ghost.

Kodachrome

Spot is taking photos for Katherine’s article at a famous stable yard when he meets one of the more down-to-earth clients.

Guess who procrastinated sleeping and homework to write another fic? This guyyyyy. I’m so sorry. Also, I hope you don’t mind that I prioritised this over my requests. I just had the idea and there’s absolutely nothing I love more than horses sooooo … I got excited.

I hope no one is offended by my portrayal of stable yard etiquette. I actually worked as a stable hand for three long years and this was how I found it at my particular stable. This is, by no means, an accurate representation of your average stable yard. It is simply a caricature of my experience (honestly, it’s not even a caricature, I was the staff so I was basically a speck of dust on their boot).

Also, for the sake of this story, we’re going to pretend that the New Yorker publishes professional sporting articles and stuff because I’m English and have no idea about magazines in America so just go with it.

It wasn’t the first time that Katherine had forced Spot to tag along with him on an interview for one of her articles. It was, however, the first time that Katherine had warned him beforehand.

“Just so you know, we’re going to a livery stable. Some of the best riders on this side of the globe train here. There’s likely to be some very snobby people around. I don’t just need your photography, for once, I need your support, too.” She’d prodded a finger into his chest, giving him a look that told him if he dared leave her alone, he might not be leaving the stable alive.

Spot was a photographer, it was his job. Katherine was obviously his main client, booking him to get photos for all of her articles (she was even working at getting him a permanent position at the magazine), but he also did weddings and events. Honestly, Spot took whatever he was offered.

There had been a couple of times when he’d turned up at creepy warehouses, seen what his client wanted photographed, and just walked straight on out of there. In fact, he tried not to think about those times.

As Katherine pulled her car to a halt, Spot took the time to take in the view. The yard was massive. There was an old, French-style stable block at the far end with countless wings which must have housed over a hundred horses and an equally immaculate barn just beyond it. Flower pots were dotted every, especially around the grand manor which sat in the centre of the plot of land, and three vast outdoor arenas sat to Spot’s left with a matching set of indoor ones to his right.

What really floored Spot, were the acres of fields stretching out in front of them. The occasional horse was dotted around the carefully partitioned sections, neatly-trimmed hedges slicing the expanse of grass into smaller fields, but, for the most part, acres of land and possibilities for his photography career were sitting empty.

Katherine leaned over into the backseat, collecting her messenger bag with her notebook and voice recorder, and started getting out of the car without a word to Spot. He quickly pulled himself together, stumbling onto the neat, cobbled stones and rushing to the boot to sling his camera equipment and tripod over his shoulders. Spot didn’t often use his tripod but it was safer to have it with him; especially when taking action shots, which he expected to have to do a lot of.

Running clumsily after Katherine with all of his equipment, Spot couldn’t help but stare at the plastic people walking around with well-mannered retrievers and excitable spaniels bounding at almost every person’s feet. He tried to smile at as many people as possible, catching a few in return but mostly receiving cold glares. The people seemed to be almost unanimously as uptight as Katherine had predicted and Spot didn’t expect to enjoy this working day. He hated being treated as lesser and that was all he was to these people

��Excuse me, Sir? I’m Katherine Plumber and this is my photographer, Scott Conlon. I’m writing an article for the New Yorker and have an interview scheduled with Ms Scarlett Lovelace in half an hour. Could you point me in the direction of somewhere to conduct this interview?” Spot had almost forgotten about Katherine’s professional voice. It was precise and it was no-nonsense and, honestly, it was a little scary.

Spot had also almost forgotten how he resented having to tell professional clients his real name. Most of the time, Katherine was able to introduce him as, ‘Spot,’ and it was let slide. However, and Spot completely understood this, with clients like these, noses would be turned up at a nickname like that.

After regarding them with about as much respect as someone would give a beetle before Katherine had started talking, the man cleared his throat, pointing towards some benches beside the arenas, “We have a nice seating area over by arena number two. In fact, Ms Lovelace was telling me just yesterday how she loves the third one (it was painted most recently).” The man gave a tight-lipped smile, shaking hands with the both of them before running off in the direction of the house.

Sharing a roll of the eyes with Spot, Katherine begun striding towards the third bench. She lay her notebook and pencil out, voice recorder positioned neatly beside it, as Spot began trying to wrestle with his camera bag.

Katherine pulled her phone out and called her interviewee, informing her of where she would be before before slumping against the bench and rubbing at her temples, “Jeez, Spot, this is going to be a long one.” She blew air through her mouth, disdain almost radiating from her as she looked around at their surroundings.

“I’m sure it’ll be fine.” Spot blew on his camera lens, rubbing it carefully with the cuff of his sleeve as he glanced in the direction of the stables, “They can’t all be pretentious, upper-class snobs.”

Widening her eyes in warning, Katherine let out a disjointed laugh as she began carefully fixing her hair, “You’d be surprised, Spotty, I grew up with this.” She winked, laughing as Spot merely snorted and returned to his camera, “I look okay, right?” A flicker of doubt crossed Katherine’s face as she began rifling through her bag, probably in search of a phone or mirror.

Spot sighed, resting his camera carefully on the bench and placing his hands firmly on Katherine’s shoulders. He raised his eyebrows, a small smile growing behind his eyes when he watched her visibly relax, “You look great, now, stop worrying. As you said, you grew up with this, right? You know what you’re doing.”

When one Ms Scarlett Lovelace eventually showed up, only forty minutes late and complaining about having to put her own helmet away, Spot had almost given up hope. He’d been taking photos of Katherine for amusement whilst they waited but now that she was here, he had to be professional.

Spot caught the occasional snap of their client but quickly grew bored. Apparently, she was too busy to get a horse out for them so he wouldn’t be getting to take those action shots of after all. He hated to say it, but this was probably going to be Spot’s first bombed shoot for Katherine’s magazine and would probably end up costing him that job. Who wanted the same boring shot of some woman talking three times?

Huffing silently, Spot turned away so that he could yawn discreetly, his eyes falling on the third arena. He was certain it had been empty the last time he’d checked. Now, however, it was anything but.

Attention captured instantly, Spot swivelled his tripod, extending his lens as far as it went to see if he could get a good shot of the rider but finding he was just too far away. Watching it was amazing. A dappled-grey horse was flying its way around the show jumping course, never missing a beat or a landing and leaving every pole safely in its holder. Its rider was nimble and light, head snapping around the course as they quickly steered their horse towards each jump with perfect precision.

Spot took one last glance at Katherine, smiling with fake enthusiasm at whatever story her client was telling, before deciding to do it. He gathered his bag, lifting his tripod carefully and migrated over towards the third arena so that he could photograph the mystery rider. Even if it wasn’t the honourable Ms Lovelace, the New Yorker would rather some dynamic shots than none at all.

Unable to hide the grin from his face as he focussed on the rider, snapping as many photos as possible in the hopes that at least one of them would be his breakthrough piece, Spot was barely able to contain his excitement. Every so often, he found a subject that utterly captivated him. Call it photogenics, call it a muse. All that Spot knew was that he never wanted to stop photographing this person and their horse. Their hat was pulled down over their forehead, stopping Spot from being able to make out anything from their face, and he all he wanted to do was see what was under that velvet helmet.

Pulling away from his viewfinder when he saw the rider slow to a trot, Spot felt his face flushing as they started turning towards him. Of course, he’d already decided that he had to talk to them but being caught taking pictures when you haven’t asked for permission can always be awkward.

“Hey? Can I help you?” A boy’s voice came from under the helmet as Spot looked up almost sheepishly. The first thing that Spot noticed, as the sun was, thankfully, behind him, was that he had the most glaringly beautiful blue eyes that he’d ever seen.

Stammering slightly, Spot silently cursed himself for making a fool of himself, “Oh- uhh. Sorry. I’m taking photos for my friend’s article.” He fiddled awkwardly with the wheel on the top of his camera, flickering between automatic and manual as he tried to avoid the boy’s piercing gaze for as long as possible.

The boy chuckled slightly, nodding his head towards Katherine, who was watching in absentminded confusion, “Shouldn’t you be photographing the person she’s interviewing?” Spot was silent for a moment, unsure of what the boy meant by it before seeing his kind smile and relaxing slightly into a lulled laugh, “Don’t worry, I get it. Ms Scarlett’s a real bore. Come on, hop the fence and walk with me?”

Spot hesitated for a moment, not understanding until the boy sidestepped his horse so that he could offer him his hand to help him climb into the arena. He quickly unscrewed his camera from his tripod, not willing to leave the expensive part of his kit just sitting there, but took the boy’s hand just the same.

Once he was down, Spot was a little unwilling to let go but let the boy return his hands to his reins as they began walking, weaving in and out of the jumps. They were a hell of a lot bigger when standing next to them, and couldn’t but be struck by even more awe for this boy as he noticed that some of them were just about the same height as he was. It wasn’t hard, Spot was only 5'4", but that was still a ridiculously impressive feat for someone who looked, perhaps, nineteen.

Holding his camera up to take a quick photo of the boy smiling down at him, “I’m Spot, by the way.” Spot smiled when a rosy blush quickly seemed to spread across the boy’s cheeks and looked down at the photo, a little struck by how good it was.

“Race. This is Kodachrome.” Offering his hand for Spot to shake, Race grinned at him quickly, obviously having caught on to how this was going to work and trying to look away for as many photos as possible. He was obviously a little camera shy but Spot had no idea why he would be. He was practically perfect- but you’d never hear Spot saying that out loud.

Spot watched Race with an amused smile, jumping a little and glaring when he was laughed at as Kodachrome snorted, “Kodachrome? Isn’t that a brand of film?”

Nodding, Race struggled to stifle his laughter as he ran his hand absentmindedly over his horse’s neck, “Yep. Koda for short. Kodachrome’s his show name but no one ever actually uses it.” He struggled to hide his smile as Koda shook his head, mane dancing everywhere, but quickly blushed and shrunk in on himself as Spot caught another photo.

They continued talking for a while, waiting for Koda to stop huffing and lower his head into a relaxed walk. It took a few minutes but, eventually, Race was pulling Koda to a halt beside Spot.

He released his feet from the stirrups, wiggling his toes around before leaning forward and swinging his leg over Koda’s rump elegantly. Landing with a silent thud, Race patted Koda, threading his reins through his arm as he reached up to unfasten his helmet.

When Race prised his helmet from his head, Spot froze. His sandy curls were matted slightly to his forehead with sweat until he shook his head out and ran his hands through them. Spot didn’t like to make exaggerations but, suddenly, the only thing that he could think was that Race was suddenly the most attractive person he’d seen in a long time.

Race caught Spot staring at him, raising an eyebrow suspiciously before laughing it off and clipping his helmet back together to hook over his arm. He looked up at Koda once more, smiling quickly and pressing a kiss to his jowl. Spot refused to be jealous of a horse but a relatively large part of him did wish that it was him.

Beginning to lead Koda out of the arena, Race paused and turned back when he noticed that Spot wasn’t following him, “You coming or what?” He raised only one eyebrow, laughing as Spot just stared at him.

“What? Oh. Yes, god- yes.” Eventually, Spot managed to pull himself together and started running awkwardly over the spongy arena floor. He blushed as Race laughed, pushing him gently as he led the way across the extensive yard towards the stable blocks.

Spot couldn’t help but think that Race had a beautiful laugh. He was so happy that he wasn’t one of those people who covered their mouth when they laughed because Race’s laugh, in all of its glory, was so very wonderful. It rang out easily over the yard, turning heads and garnering disapproving looks but Spot couldn’t understand how. How could anyone not want to hear this beautiful boy laugh for the rest of time?

God, he hated being sappy. Not many people knew but, when Spot was alone or when he was beginning to like someone, he could get ridiculously gooey. It made him want to throw up but he couldn’t really help it.

When they’d made it inside the stable block, Race led Spot towards one of the empty stables on his right and he steered Koda inside, mindful of the door and not letting the horse scrape his side. Every movement with his horse was so gentle. It was peaceful and soft and loving and, once again, a terrible part of Spot wished that Race was touching him like that.

Race invited Spot in, closing the door behind them, hanging his helmet from it, and chuckling as Spot stayed awkwardly close to the wall. He was perfectly alright walking around beside a horse but in a small, confined room? Not so much. In fact, he hated to admit it, but he was a little scared.

Suddenly, Spot felt a warm tingle on the back of his hand as Race brushed against it gently, pulling him forwards only slightly and lifting Spot’s hand to rest it on Koda’s neck. As he felt the calm, slow breaths of the horse, Spot gradually began to calm down. He felt a smile coating his face as he turned to see Race, arms folded and a smug smirk lighting his eyes.

Spot blushed, rubbing small circles very lightly over Koda’s neck as Race instructed him to whilst the boy lifted the flap on the saddle. He warned him to stand back as he released the girth, patting Koda when he didn’t react, “Sometimes he tries to nip you when you do that.”

Nodding, Spot understood that it wasn’t out of malice. He was glad to hear that Race cared enough to know that, even if it was playful, Koda reaching around to bite him would have scared him.

He quickly returned his circles, however, as Race lifted the saddle and pad over Koda’s back carefully, cautious not to let any hanging girth or stirrup leather brush his side and spook him. Spot had barely known this boy for thirty minutes and yet, the more he watched, the more smitten he was becoming. Never having been one to believe in love at first sight, Spot was more than a little shocked that this was even happening but he was glad that it was.

Unless Race wasn’t interested in boys. To be fair, he hadn’t shown any signs of being particularly interested in Spot, especially as Spot didn’t know what he was usually like around people, but he was hoping a little that he wasn’t this friendly to everyone. For once, Spot wanted something to just go his way.

Backing away as Race went around to remove Koda’s bridle, taking utmost care and concern, Spot raised his camera silently. He took as many shots as he could of the boy with his horse before Race blushed, hiding away into Koda’s mane. Spot, however, just kept taking pictures. Candid was better, after all, and these were certainly better. Race’s forehead leaning against Koda’s neck, a smile fighting to emerge as his eyes squeezed shut and his nose crinkled. For the life of him, Spot couldn’t believe that this boy could be at all camera shy.

Eventually, Race managed to fasten the bridle after slipping it meticulously over Koda’s ears. He hung it over his shoulder, leading the way out of the stable with Spot behind him before somehow managing to lift the heavy saddle over his free arm with his riding helmet in the other.

Once they’d reached the tack room, Spot laughed as Race threw his helmet up onto a tiny cube shelf, amazed when it landed there perfectly, and went to help him with the saddle.

However, Race held a hand up, slipping it casually onto a hook high above his head and hanging the bridle beside it, “Trust me, I grew up with this. I know what I’m doing.”  Spot merely held his hands up in innocence, honestly impressed that Race had managed to do it. He was small and frail, just a little taller than Spot, but he didn’t look particularly strong. Spot had been proved wrong.

After sitting, sharing a Mars bar and talking for a few minutes, Spot and Race were interrupted by Katherine appearing in the door. She looked a little angry at first but it soon settled when she saw Spot holding out the chocolate bar for Race to take a last bite, “Hey, you ready to go? I’m done with that interview.”

Race looked up at Katherine, obviously recognising her as Spot’s friend, and let a mischievous giggle trickle through the air, “Ms Scarlett? How was the Grand Duchess, exactly?” There was an obvious trace of mockery to Race’s statement as he quickly ran his tongue over his teeth to get rid of any trace of caramel left over from the chocolate and grin at Katherine.

Sighing a little, Spot tried to hide his smitten smile as he sunk further into his chair, looking to Katherine as he realised that she’d started talking. She’d relaxed visibly as soon as she’d figured out that she could be casual in front of Race and slumped into a chair by the door. Her head leaned back, resting against the wooden wall as her eyes fell closed, “Oh my god, she was so boring! I think I’m going to have to scrap this piece altogether.”

“What? No! I got some really good shots!” Spot leapt into action almost immediately, jumping forwards and ready to defend this article to hell and back. He was so very proud of those wonderful shots of Race and he refused to just drop them. Race deserved to be in that magazine.

A loud bark of laughter leaving Race, Spot looked over at him to see him huffing to calm down, “Of me!” He chuckled, eventually settling and rolling his eyes as Spot as he leaned over to smack him lightly on the chest. He looked like he didn’t believe that he’d ever be in a real magazine. Spot knew that he had to change that. This boy deserved to be on the biggest billboard in Times Square.

Katherine thought for a moment, looking over Race as she tapped her pencil gently against her bottom lip, “Would you do the interview? Not now but tomorrow, maybe? I’m sure I could spin it to make you sound amazing.” She pulled her notebook out of her bag, flipping to a fresh page and scribbling down her ideas.

Scoffing, Spot shook his head as he gave Katherine a long look, “There’s no need to spin it, he is amazing! You should have seen him out there, he was practically flying!” Spot looked back to Race, sending him a wink when he noticed that he was blushing and automatically having a small panic attack inside. How could he ever be that cocky? Was Race going to hate him now?“

“There’s no need to exaggerate.” Race’s kind smile told Spot otherwise, making him relax immediately, “Which magazine is it?” He was going to get the shock of his life. He probably expected it to be some small, rural thing.

With a sly smile, Katherine appeared to see the way Spot was looking at Race and gave him his answer as casually as possible, “Well, it’s only the New Yorker.” She raised her fingernails to inspect them, frowning a little at the grime beneath one of them before turning back to Race with a smirk.

Race simply stared at Katherine, silent for a moment before he blinked once and tilted his head to the side. Spot couldn’t help but think that he looked ridiculously cute but quickly tried to hide his blush, “Oh my god.”

Smirking, Spot nodded and let a wide grin stretch across his face quickly, “Oh yeah.” He leaned back in his seat, tapping his flat palms against the table consecutively.

“I’m going to be in the New Yorker?” Race looked shocked. His face was almost blank as he stared between Spot and Katherine respectively, his eyes lingering only slightly on Spot. A scoff left him quietly, obviously slightly in disbelief, as Race blinked up the two of them. His long eyelashes batted slowly shut over his blue eyes and Spot had to pull his gaze away, “I’m going to replace Ms Scarlett in the New Yorker with Koda?”

Katherine laughed, dotting on her page a couple of times as she watched Race’s reaction, “Well, yes, there is that. However, you’ll be front cover if Spot’s got a good enough shot.” She placed her pencil down, glancing between the two boys before giving Spot a somewhat knowing look.

Covering his mouth in shock, Race shrunk slowly into his seat as he just stared at the pair of them. Gradually, he became more animated as he let out a tiny squeak of excitement, hopping in his seat. Spot grinned, standing and pulling Race up with him so that he could wrap his arm casually around him. Well, Spot would call it casual.  Katherine told him later that it was the most tender she’d ever seen him be.

A smile filled Katherine as she stood to meet the pair, clutching at Race’s hands when he tried to hug her. She didn’t particularly like hugs but he understood immediately and simply stood there, “Sorry, I’m Katherine. What was your name?”

Race let go of Katherine’s hands carefully, letting his head fall onto Spot’s shoulder, almost as if he wasn’t thinking about it, “Antonio Higgins.” Spot was certainly thinking about it. His posture had stiffened slightly but he quickly relaxed, wanting to be as comfortable a pillow as possible so that Antonio wouldn’t let go.

“I knew there was an accent.” Looking up to Spot, Race laughed as he shook his head as much as he could without moving. Spot was suddenly aware that Race didn’t smell wonderful. However, he didn’t smell bad either. Considering that he’d been out, working hard with Koda not long before, Race actually smelled pretty great. It was saddle soap and damp leather and something that reminded him of Haribo Tangfastics.

Rolling her eyes, Katherine gestured towards the door with her head as she begun to gather her things together, “Anyway, come on, Spot, I’m heading off. I have date night with Sarah.”

As Race quickly raised his head from Spot’s shoulder, leaping into action, Spot missed the contact and craved for him to just come to a halt once more for another minute or so, “Gosh, don’t let me keep you! You can’t miss date night, it’s very important.” Spot knew that, realistically, Race couldn’t just lean on him for the rest of his life but in a perfect dream it might just be possible.

“She’s never missed date night.” Spot chuckled darkly when Katherine turned away, rolling his eyes and grinning as he made Race giggle, “When are you heading home? We could give you a lift?”

Spot’s heart sunk as Race started shaking his head almost immediately though he soon understood why, “Oh, not until the late evening, I’m afraid. I have four more horses to exercise and I promised Koda I’d take him on a hack … Which may include a bit of galloping … They call me Racetrack around here for a reason!” Spot laughed as Race just kept rambling, glad that Race didn’t think rambling would annoy him. It was lovely just hearing how much Race loved his horses, how much dedication he put into them to give them the best lives possible, and Spot had only known him for an hour or so.

Nodding, Spot offered a tight-lipped smile as he removed his arm awkwardly from around Race’s waist, “Right. Anyway, um- Race. Do you want to go out for- God, I don’t know, coffee? Or something? Sometime? We could go tomorrow, before the interview?”

Although Spot was nervous, he shouldn’t have been. Race smiled quickly, biting his lip to keep it from spreading into a giddy grin, “I’d love to.” He lowered his head, staring at his feet as he shuffled on them awkwardly.

Spot grinned, backing out of the room awkwardly and grabbing his camera on the way out, “Okay, cool, I’ll meet you at the coffee shop five minutes from here at nine?” When Race nodded, Spot ran into a pile of buckets and stumbled his way out of the room. He cursed himself the entire way to the yard, face-palming as soon as he was safely inside Katherine’s car, “Oh my god, he’s perfect.”

Chapter Two: Friday Night…

The Impala. The fucking Impala was parked in my carport. My carport. The wide strip of cracked gray cement that separated my pale blue house from the one to its left. The place where my husband parked our used Honda Minivan every night. Dean Winchester’s beloved 1967 Chevy Impala was parked in my carport. I nearly squealed as I followed the boys down my front steps towards it. The rain glistened on the hood, illuminated by the streetlights, and my heart skipped wildly in my chest.

I ran my fingers gently over the hood. It was real, solid, shiny. “Baby,” I whispered in quiet reverence. This was the Holy Grail, the heart of the show, their home away from home, the most important object in the history of the universe. The Impala.

“She’s beautiful, isn’t she?” Dean stood next to me, his eyes sweeping over the car’s frame just as lovingly as mine did.

“She is.”

“Hop in,” he said, pulling open the back door for me. A moment of pure joy and panic swept over me, but I did just as he said. I hopped right in.

The feeling overwhelmed me. The soft, old leather under my fingers, the springy but firm seat beneath me. The smell of it, the look, every single detail was in place, and my mind reeled as Sam and Dean took their places up front. Dean turned the key and I nearly lost consciousness. The engine roared to life, filling my ears and my heart with amazement. Dean turned around, resting his arm on the back of the bench seat so that he could back out of the driveway, and he smiled at me.

“You OK?”

“No. But, yeah.” I managed a bewildered smile and looked away, trying to soak up every detail around me. Never in my wildest dreams had I thought I’d ever be sitting in the Impala. Meeting Jared and Jensen, sure, that was set to happen at my first con later this year, but the car? No way. I turned and ran my hand over the door, trying to memorize the feel of the change from leather to cold metal. Then I saw it. Peeking out from the ashtray was the thing I had always hoped to see: a tiny green plastic army man stuck in the empty metal hole. I touched it gingerly and lost my cool. Suddenly I was crying, tears filling my eyes and my chest heaving as they poured down my cheeks.

Sam heard my whimpers and turned. “Beka, what’s wrong?”

I swallowed hard and wiped at my face. “What’s wrong is… I wrote this. I wrote this whole thing!” Amazed tears gave way to creeping panic as I thought out loud, working my way through the scenario. “I wrote this as a fanfiction! A whole ten part series about this! You guys showed up at my door and I went on cases with you and Dean and I fell in love and then Cas.. but I was dead! The whole point of the story was I was in a coma dying! Am I dying? Is that what’s happening? I can’t do this! This is not OK! I’m not ready to die! I have kids and a husband and a life! I don’t want to die!” My voice was too high, too loud, it rang through the car and drowned out the engine as Dean drove down my street. The same street I walked every morning taking my kids to school. The same street they rode scooters on and played with the neighbor kids. My street, in my town, in my world.

“You are not dying.” Sam’s voice was calming, though his eyes were filled with concern. He twisted around in his seat, throwing his arm around to try and take my hand. I pulled away at first, but then let him take it, needing something to ground me to whatever this reality was. “You’re not in a coma. This is happening. I’m sorry. I know this is a lot to take in, but it is real.” His fingers closed around mine and I shut my eyes, taking a deep breath.

“Fine,” I said after a long while. “But if I’m dead, I’m gonna kill you.”

Sam laughed and nodded, releasing my hand once he was sure I was alright. “Deal.”

The crime scene was less than a mile from my house, just down past the park, off the back highway. Dean pulled into the empty lot and parked near the back. It was dark, but I could see the reflective police tape blocking off an area to our right.

We climbed out of the car, my ears enjoying the creak of the doors as they opened and closed, just like on the show. The rain had stopped, thankfully, and we walked through puddles towards the dumpster. I hung back, following slowly behind the guys, not knowing what the hell I was doing, or what was expected of me. Dean led the way, his head turning this way and that as he scoped the environment, making sure nothing was about to jump out at us. Sam pulled away the yellow caution tape and made his way to the dumpster where the bodies had been found. There was blood on the ground and splattered across the metal trash container. It was dark, but I could see the thick mess and my stomach flipped. I’d never seen a mess like that, never even been close to a crime scene. It wasn’t exactly on my bucket list to do so.

“Find anything?” Dean asked, circling back around to join us.

“Yeah, a claw.” Sam stood up, holding out his hand. Between his fingers he held a long, sharp claw that looked like it belonged to a jungle cat.

“The fuck is that?” I gasped as I squinted at the object.

Sam shook his head as he examined the piece. “No idea. Looks like it was ripped out of whatever did this.”

“Oh that’s just delightful.” I sulked and turned away, looking out across the highway. The guys chattered behind me, passing theories back and forth, but I wasn’t listening. My eyes caught a movement in the park across the way and I stepped forward, headed to the edge of the lot so I could see better. I’m half blind, and can barely see in the dark, but I didn’t need details. There was something moving over there, something slinking through the playground. Something that moved… unnaturally.

“Guys?” I looked closer and saw another figure moving, seeming to run away from the lurking shadow. “Guys!” I called to the Winchesters, pointing towards the park, but they didn’t look up. They were deep in conversation, Sam apparently going over the archive of his mind, figuring out what we were dealing with.

A scream ripped through the night, and they finally looked up, their eyes fixing on the location of the sound.

“I tried tellin’ ya! Something’s in the park!” I yelled and they ran past me, ready to save the day. I tried to stay back, but Sam grabbed my hand, pulling me along. I had no choice but to keep up; he was too strong, his huge hand was too tight around mine. My heart pounded as we crossed the deserted highway and headed towards the fight. When our feet hit grass, Sam let me go, putting his hands on my shoulders and demanding I stay put.

“You think I’m going in there, you’re out of your mind Winchester!” I told him firmly. He gave me a quick smile and took off to help Dean.

It was hard to see in the dark, but I watched on in awe as Dean fought with the creature. Sam managed to pull the victim away and led the mystery figure to safety. Dean grunted and shouted as he beat at the monster with bare hands, their silhouettes dancing around the playground.

“You’re right Sam!” he shouted as the younger man returned. “It’s a Feletsme!”

“Crap!” Sam yelled back as he ran into the fray. “We need a brass knife!”

“I don’t happen to have one on me, Sam! Plan B?”

“Definitely brass,” Sam hollered as he dodged a swipe of claws, “Or copper?”

“Or copper?” Dean shouted, picking himself up from the ground. “Now’s not a great time to not be sure.”

I listened on, feeling scared and useless until I realized where we were. I looked to my left and gave myself a mental high five. My office was right around the corner. We had brass. And copper! I took off, running through the park towards the garage that housed my office. “Keep it busy guys, I got you!”

If either man answered me, I didn’t hear it. Blood pounded in my ears as I pumped my legs, running as fast as I could to the white building on the corner. The metal gate was down, and the door locked, but there was always a key in the mailbox. My boss had a bad habit of forgetting his shop key at home, so I always hid an extra for him. Thanking his forgetfulness, I swiftly let myself in and flipped on the lights.

I work for a plumber. My office is basically a little hole in a garage that’s filled to the brim with scrap metal, pipes, spare parts, and discarded toilets awaiting disposal. Quite frankly, it’s a mess. And it smells bad. But tonight it would prove to be priceless.

I ran to a pile of metal at the far end of the shop and dug through it, quickly pulling out the longest and sharpest looking pieces of pipe I could. Sam hadn’t been sure which metal he needed, so I grabbed copper and brass and headed back out into the night.

The sounds of their fight scene floated over to me as I ran back; grunts and growls and thwacks echoed in the air and I wondered how no one in the surrounding houses heard it. They weren’t exactly quiet.

When I made it back, Dean was hanging upside down off of the jungle gym, his knees locked around the bright blue metal as his head dangled down towards the ground. The monster, whatever it was, was looming above him, his clawed hand raised high. Sam was crumbled in a heap underneath a tree, presumably knocked out during the fight as usual.

“Dean!” I called to him and he raised his head best he could, giving me a hopeless look.

I raised the pipes in my hand and smiled. “Need some help?”

“Quit with the one-liners and toss ‘em!” he yelled, and I did as he asked, passing him the pipes in a show of hand-eye coordination that I didn’t think I had in me. Amazingly, he caught both pieces and gripped them tight, one in each hand. He swung himself upwards and jabbed the rusty pipes into the animal’s chest. It shrieked in pain, stumbling backwards and collapsing into a heap atop the jungle gym.

Dean sighed in relief and gripped the railing to pull himself up. I ran towards him and looked up “You OK?”

“Yeah, thanks,” he replied, kicking at the creature to make sure he was dead. “Where’d you get the pipes?”

“I have my sources,” I said with a laugh. “Just be happy I pay attention at work. I could have brought you PVC.”

“Well thank God for that.”

Clean up after a hunt wasn’t something I’d ever thought about, but there we were doing it. We couldn’t leave a monster on a playground, so Sam and Dean dragged the thing back across the street and dumped it into the metal dumpster, quickly setting it on fire. I stood by, paranoid that someone would come running towards the sudden blaze, but no one came. The street was dead quiet, not a single car even passed by.

“This has got to be the most insane night of my life,” I muttered to myself, watching as Dean slammed the dumpster lid shut, extinguishing the last of the fire.

“This? This is nothing. Kinda fun actually. I haven’t been on a playground in… well, probably ever.” Dean laughed and wiped the dirt from his pants as he walked towards the car.

“I’ll have to bring you back here in the daytime, that way you could get your swing on,” I said with a sarcastic chuckle. The adrenaline from the fight had long since worn away, and I yawned as we reached the car. “Well, it’s been… weird. I think you should take me home now.”

“Yeah, of course,” Sam smiled and opened my door for me.

Dean leaned against the hood and looked over at me. “I’m starving. Any place to get some grub around here?”

“Uh, yeah, there’s a diner right up the street, open all night.”

“Cool. Let’s go eat.”

“I really think you should just take me home…” I whined, exhausted and ready to wake up from this dream.

Sam smiled and rubbed my shoulder. “Come on Beka, let us buy you dinner.”

No matter how tired I was, no matter how insane and falling apart I thought I was, there was no way I could say no to those hazel eyes or that dimpled smile.

The Broadway Diner. Big, covered in neon and chrome, empty this time of night. Dean slid into the booth and took a menu from the waitress while flashing a sexy smile. I laughed at the sight and scooted into the booth across from him, Sam taking the place next to me.

“World’s best pancakes,” Dean read off the front of the menu. “I’ll be the judge of that.”

I shook my head. “Nah, you want the bacon cheeseburger, trust me.”

He grinned and nodded at Sam. “I like her.”

My phone chimed with a familiar swoosh noise and I pulled it out to see a message from Steph.

The food came quickly and we ate, enjoying the meal and talking about everything. I asked them all sorts of random questions and they answered best they could. “What was it like to be a demon?” “You do know the Men of Letters crap is gonna blow up in your faces, right?” “When you went to Purgatory, why did you bother shaving?” “How many bathrooms are in the Bunker?”

They laughed, taking my rambling inquiries in stride. Hell, if this was really happening, I was gonna get as much out of them as I possibly could.

“OK, but seriously,” I said, dropping my french fry back onto the plate and taking a deep breath. “How do you do it?”

“Do what?” Sam asked.

“It. Your life. How do you handle it? You guys are dying every other day, getting sent to hell and worse, always on the edge- sometimes falling off the edge- of sanity. How do you handle it? Fuck, some days I can barely get out of bed just to go to work, but you guys… I don’t know. I’d be in the looney bin.”

That killed the laughter and lighthearted conversation quickly. Sam dropped his head, his hands folding in his lap as he thought over my question. Dean let out a breath that wasn’t exactly a laugh as he smiled sadly and looked out of the window next to him.

“I’m sorry,” I said quickly, hating myself for being so forward. “You don’t have to answer that.”

Sam looked up and gave me a tiny half smile. Goddamn it, I’d given him sad puppy eyes. “It’s OK,” he nodded and cleared his throat. “It’s uh, it’s not easy. But we do what we have to do, ya know?” He squared his shoulders and sat up straight, trying to look tough, but failing miserably. He rested his arm on the table and looked back down. I could see the red in his eyes, and I kicked myself. I wanted to grab him and wrap my arms around him and sing him to sleep, but I couldn’t do that. He was real, not some Sam in my head that I had any rights to. So I simply placed my hand on his arm and squeezed gently.

“I’m so sorry Sam. I wish you guys didn’t have to go through what you do. It’s not fair.”

Dean piped up, pulled from his reverie by my words. “Yeah, well, someone’s gotta do it.” He stole a fry from my plate and shoved it in his mouth with a smile. “Besides, it’s not all bad. We get to travel the country, see the sights, and meet strange people like you.”

“I’m strange?” I asked with a scoff. “You live in a bunker underground and hunt monsters. I think you’ve got the monopoly on strange, sir.”

“You’re not wrong.” He winked and scooted out of the booth. He winked at me. Dean Winchester winked at me. Check that off the list of things I never thought I’d live through.

Back in my carport, the Impala idled as we said our goodbyes. It was strange, I was getting the hugs I had always dreamed of, and yet… it felt odd to say goodbye. Like we weren’t quite finished.

“So, what are you going to do now?” I asked as Dean released me from a quick squeeze.

“Eh, probably find a motel and hit the hay. See what happens tomorrow.”

“Uh, yeah… there’s only one motel near here and it’s out by the expressway and it’s really disgusting.” I shivered at the thought.

Dean laughed it off. “We’ve stayed at some pretty nasty places.”

“No, like… I wouldn’t even park my car there. It’s… please don’t. Stay here.” I paused, my mouth was way ahead of my brain and I hadn’t meant to offer, but there it was.

“Really?” Sam asked, rounding the car to stand beside me. “You don’t even know us.”

I shrugged. “Well, I kinda do. More than you know me anyway, and, I mean… Cas sent you here for a reason and we’re still not sure what that is. So, listen, my family is away till Sunday, you guys can crash here and we’ll figure things out in the morning. I can make waffles.” I grinned and looked between the boys with hopeful enthusiasm, still amazed I was making the offer.

“That’d be great, thanks,” Sam said, full dimples on display for me.

“Great!” I said, spinning around and heading towards the house.

For the life of me, I could not believe what I was doing. Put aside the fact that I was palling around with fictional characters, I had just invited two absolutely gorgeous, single men to stay the night in my house. I’m married, happily! For damn near eleven years! Yet there I was, escorting Sam and Dean Winchester up the stairs and showing them each to a bedroom. I handed them clean towels, apologized for the mess, offered them anything they’d like to eat in the fridge like a good hostess, and excused myself for the night.  

I locked my bedroom door. I never do that. I turned the little lock on my brushed nickel door knob and pressed my ear to the door, trying to listen to their movements. They seemed to shuffle around a bit, exchange a few words, and then there was silence.

I slept in my clothes just in case; afraid to even take my sneakers off. I climbed into bed and sent off a quick text to my husband.

I didn’t know how I could possibly fall asleep, but as soon as I turned off my phone, I was out.

Little drabble I made. Criticism is appreciated. I headcanon Ben's daughter as autistic but I don't have that much experience writing characters with this disability so I want to clarify from the start that I don't mean to stereotype or insult anybody. Autisim is a disability with a huge spectrum of symptoms (is that the right term?). There Isn't a lot of poc autistic representation so I just thought it would be neat. Again I do not intent to insult anybody and I am very open to advice. I kept it short and open on purpose. Gwendolyn is a character that actually appeared in the original series and not my oc, just to clarify this too. Ben really didn't know what to expect from his everyday life nowadays. He was just fighting Hex, nothing out of the usual and the next second there is a preteen girl clinging to him like it's her life line. Ben needed a second to process what happened, Hex said some kind of spell, then there was a bright light and suddenly the magican was lying passed out on the ground and the girl that appeared from nowhere was hugging him. Ben looked down at the dark mop of hair burried in his chest, she was shaking but her grip on him was really strong. He exchanged a look with Rook, who seemed just as confused and clueless about this situation. "Um hello there." He started and the girl shifted, finally looking up at him. Ben almost felt the need to gasp as watery dark brown eyes locked with his, 'Kai?!' Was the first thing that shoot through his head as he took in her features. The little girl really did look a lot like his girlfriend, almost like a younger version of her and for a solid moment Ben almost thought this might be the case, however there were small differences that made him pause, things he couldn't pin point for the life of him but clearly still were there. "Um hello miss, how may we help you." Rook schimed in, the girl hardly looked at him as she tightened her grip on him again. Ben winced, wow this little girl sure was strong. "Hey there, you're squching me." He said as he gently preyed her away from him. He keept his hands on her shoulders more out of instinct then anything else really and she instantly wraped her own hands around them as if she was scared Ben would disappear the second he let go of her. "Hello," he tried again, "I'm Ben Tennyson and that's my partner Rook Blonko, we are Plumbers, you know what Plumbers are? I don't mean the ones who fix bathrooms though." The girl chuckled at that and Ben felt a warm felling spread in his chest, she then nodded gesturing to the Plumbers symbol on the neck of her blue and white dress. "That just narrows it down to a gazzilion possible places you could be from." He sighed, she responded by making a few hand gestures and Ben realized with mild panic that she was trying to tell him something. He looked to his partner for help, "How are the chances that Plumbers Academy teached you sign language?" His question was met with a shaking head and a somewhat apologetic expression on the cat like alien's face. "Of course. Okay, no problem, we can make this work." He really didn't know how they could make this work. "Okay um you can hear me fine right?" He first tried to clarify, he wasn't sure if this question was rude or not but the girl didn't seem to mind as she simply nodded her head. "Cool. Do you recognize this place?" If they were lucky she was simply teleported here from a different location. If not this whole ordeal might become a lot more messy then Ben was hoping for. The girl looked around their suroundings, Ben didn't know what to make of her expression as he waited for her response. Suddenly she started jumping pointing excitedly at a big bill board that was displaying advertisement for mister Smoothies. Ben raised a eyebrow, "Do you mean the bill board or mister smoothies?" She simply looked confused about this question. "I don't think this questioning thing is going to work." Rook threw in and the girl looked extremely sad suddenly, "It's not your fault!" Ben clarified quickly, "We are the authorities, if we can't help you due to lacking the education it's our fault, not yours." The girl's face brightened up and Ben felt himself smile, "We still got to find a way to get you home though, your parents probably are worried sick." "Maybe we should bring her to the plumbers base and call miss Gwendolyn, if whatever Hex did brought her here she might know how to get her home." Ben nodded, Gwen was probably their best bet. "What do you think? Want to come with us?" He asked the girl, she stared at him for a moment before nodding, Ben smiled but paused as he heared a groan comming from somewhere behind them. "We probably should lock Hex up first." - The ride was spent relatively silent, the girl (Ben really should find out what her name is), was clinging to his arm the entire time. He guessed car rides made her nervous. She also seemed to keep her distance from Rook as much as possible, something that clearly hurt his partner's feelings. "So," he started, "What should we call you?" The girl looked at him and the more Ben stared back the more one name seemed to manifest in his mind, "How about Gwendolyn?" "Ben you cannot just-" Rook started but the girl nodded vigorously, "See, she likes it." He taunted his partner who simply roled his eyes as he concentrated on the road again. Gwendolyn stared at Rook for a solid minute and Ben could tell it made him nervous, but Rook keept his attention on the road. Gwendolyn then released Ben's arm from her death grip as she carefully leaned more into her own seat, she still kept a solid grip on his sleeve though, tugging at it in a 1.2.3 rythem. Ben didn't really understand why she was doing this but he let her. - "So, any luck?" Ben asked as his cousin inspected the girl, she arrived shortly after Ben called her about it and thankfully Gwendolyn instantly took a liking to her too, Ben wondered what this was about as she seemed to be very reserved around anybody else. Gwen sighed, shaking her head, "I have no idea what Hex did to make her appear or how to reverse it. Sorry kiddo." Gwendolyn didn't look bothered as she just giggled while Gwen's mana touched her skin. "Well back to square one then." Ben sighed. "Maybe she's from the future." Kevin threw in suddenly, they all stared at him waiting for a clarification, "I mean, it makes sense. She looks like Kai doesn't she?" Ben felt butterflies at the implications, staring at the young girl who's been practically attached to him since she came here. He wouldn't lie, he would probably love it if this was the case. Gwendolyn was hiding her face in his arm as everyone started to stare at her and Ben felt a sudden need to protect her, shielding her from the gazes of hos friends. "No way, she's too cute to be Ben's kid." Argit, who was there for reasons, reasons he blamed Kevin for, threw in. Ben glared at him, sure he had a point but he didn't have to say it out loude. "She does seem to like Ben most though." Gwen said as she stoped whatever she was doing with her mana. "Well what then? Wait till the problem solved itself? I mean, if she isn't from this time line or if she's from the future Paradox should be bugging us soon, right?" "Well have fun then. I got exams to prepare for and coffe to drink." "When did you last sleep?" "Sleep is a social construct." Ben looked after his cousin with mild concerne as she opened a magic portal, "I got this." “Hello, thank you for calling I-net service provider twelve customer support. How can I help you today?” Tuïf bent the left half of his sleek white company issue headset, feebly hoping the wires inside would reconnect. He had put in a repair ticket almost two months ago, and nothing had come of it.

“Yeah, my I-net isn't working.” he heard in his right ear. “It was fine three days ago but n-” Tuïf was startled by a loud burst of static in his left ear, and the call was suddenly in stereo. “-ust not working anymore!” he heard the customer finish.

“Can I have your name and CIN, please?” Tuïf requested, opening a new event form.

“Derik Juünz, zero zero zero four, nine one seven A, F F two two, zero zero B D.”

“And just to confirm, that was Derik Juünz, zero zero zero four nine one seven A F F two two zero zero B D, correct?” Tuïf said as he entered the data into the form.

“What, you got a hearing problem?” Tuïf winced as another burst of static sent the call back to mono.

“I’m just following procedure.” He reached for his cup of Earl Gray as Derik began informing him once more that his I-net was down.

“Well, let's see what we can do. Could you please find your modem for me?” Tuïf asked.

“What’s that?” Derik asked in return. Tuïf let out a sigh.

“It should be a small box with buttons and lights on it, with a NSNI cable connecting it directly to your wall.”

“What’s an NSNI cable?” Incredible. Tuïf was starting to doubt this guy had ever seen a computer before a few days ago.

“It stands for Nova Standard Network Interface cable. The head is shaped like a rectangle with a small divot on one side.” Tuïf heard some shuffling on the other end, including the sound of something falling and Derik cursing, before he returned.

“Okay, I’ve found the modem.”

“Thank you.” Tuïf said, wondering why he was thanking him. Oh right, procedure.

“Now, there should be a few lights on it. One of them should be labeled ‘I-net’. Can you tell me if it’s on?”

“Yes.” Derik replied. “I mean no, it's not on.”

“Okay, can you unplug the NSNI cable, please?”

“Sure.” As Tuïf waited for Derik to unplug the cable, he looked up his house on the distribution monitor. The system said he was receiving I-net, so it was almost definitely a problem on Derik’s end.

“Okay, I unplugged it, and now all the lights are off.” Tuïf lifted his hands from his keyboard and tensed them in frustration.

“Derik, that was the power cord.”

“Oh.” There was silence as derik seemed to think for a moment. “What should I do?” he finally asked.

“Plug it back in, please.” Tuïf took a swig of his tea and looked at the call timer. Six minutes? Really? It felt like an eternity.

“Okay, it’s plugged back in, and I unplugged the other thing.” At least he had the common sense to do that.

“Okay, now, look at the connector. Does it seem to be damaged or discolored in any way?”

“Nope.” Well, it wasn't the cable. Most likely something went wrong in the modem itself.

“Okay, now, there should be a button on the back that says ‘test’. Can you press it for me?” Tuïf waited for a full minute. “Derik? Are you still there?”

“I can't find it!” he shouted angrily, just as the wires in the left half of Tuïf’s headset reconnected, giving an extremely loud static burst.

“It should be red and about the size of your thumb, assuming you're a human.” Tuïf removed his headset’s left bud from his ear, deciding that occasional stereo audio wasn’t worth the pain.

“I still can't find it. Are you sure you know what you're talking about?” Tuïf felt a growl rising in his throat, and he took a sip of tea to drown it.

“Derik, there should be a serial number on the bottom of the box. What does it say?”

“Uh, hold on...” Derik instructed. “It’s um... I R seven seven zero two M Esh L five zero nine nine eight.” Tuïf muted his microphone and let out a frustrated snarl. Having got most of his anger out, he unmuted his microphone.

“Derik, that’s your router.”

“What?”

“Your router isn't your modem.” Tuïf chugged the rest of his tea. He didn't care that he wouldn't be able to get more until the end of his shift.

“You told me it was the box with the buttons and the lights!” Derik yelled angrily.

“Yes, the one connected directly to the wall.”

“But this one is connected directly to the...” He trailed off as he seemed to remember that he had mistakenly identified the power cord as the network cable. “Uh, anyway, I found the modem.” Tuïf once more began to regurgitate his script.

“There should be a light on it labled ‘I-net’. Is it on?”

“Yes.” Derik replied.

“Then the problem is not with any of your equipment. There is something wrong with your router, which I cannot help you with, as it is not one of our devices.”

“This is unbelievable!” Derik yelled, prompting Tuïf to attempt to lower the call volume, only to remember it was already at minimum.

“You waste all my time just to tell me you can’t fix my I-net? Why can't you fix it?” Tuïf tried to think of a way to explain that this simply wasn't his job.

“I have an analogy for you.” he said eventually.

“What is it?” Derik asked, venom in his voice.

“Your window is cracked, and you have called a plumber to fix it. Do you understand?” He thought for a moment.

“But that can't be right! Modems and routers or whatever are both I-net things!”

“And windows and plumbing are both house things.” Tuïf retorted. “Do you understand now?” There was a click as Derik hung up.

“Well fuck you too.” Tuïf muttered as he ended the call. He only had a minute to himself before his headset rang again, likely with another mindless customer on the other end.

Elle Luna, the author, was a designer herself, and I guess I got to reading this book both through divine movement and through a desperate searching for what I want my life to become.

My next step is to dig a little deeper into my Must, so that I can really define what it is. I know that seeing other artists launch their creative projects makes me come alive. I care about education, I care about representation, and I care about expressing our full range of emotions. How will all of these tie together, and integrate with my professional life?

But so long as we leave Should unexamined, the pattern repeats. And while running from Should certainly sounds easier and more pleasant, we must get to know Should if we want to release its invisible grip from our everyday decision-making. If you’re ready to get to know your Shoulds, you can. Here’s one way. Grab a piece of paper, and make a list of the Shoulds you hold on to by completing the sentences from the previous page. You can add more and repeat them if you want. Listen to what comes up first and write it down without thinking too much. Even if it doesn’t make sense right now, it contains a grain of truth worth capturing.  Look at your list one by one, and ask the following three questions: Where did you come from? Are you true for me? Do I want to keep holding on to you? List of sentences:  You should never ___. You should always ___. You should know better than to ___. You should not ___.”

You get to play with these three types of work and decide what’s right for you and your life.”

THE DAILY GRIND... ARE WE THERE YET?

Friday, 1 Dec. 2017.  Doctor appointment today for a Rx refill and a shot in the bum.

It has come to my attention that over 50% of adults, in Canada, now have post-secondary education.  On the face of it, this seems like a good thing... except half those degrees aren't worth the paper they're printed upon and the people who have the degrees have little to show for their effort.  Schools are becoming factories on the path to employment and nothing much of anything is being taught, anymore.  A Bachelor of Arts is about as useful as toilet paper except it looks good on a resume... you might know how to wear a suit and tie.

We live in an era where nobody is left behind, everyone is as good as everyone else, and everybody wins.  I don't give a flying fuck if you have a degree.  I'll figure out if you have brains or concrete between your ears really, really fast.  There's a reason I'm reclusive... the idiots are driving me insane.  I need to stay away from them.

The best post-secondary education is in technical fields... learning how to do things for a particular business or function... electrician, plumber, auto technician, etc.

While I don't trust many doctors, anymore, one does need a lot of post-secondary education to be a doctor.  Nurses are frighteningly ignorant of just about everything.

Our society has become much like the old Chinese Empire that depended upon the civil service exams... useless exams that did not help advance the country at all.  It kept China hundreds of years behind the rest of the planet and they are, only now, catching up.  The Canadian and American school systems have become very ill and are in need of a major overhaul.  I can't speak for European schools as I am not familiar with them.

Private Universities abound and are filled with teachers who couldn't get a job doing anything else.  They have become factories designed to meet paychecks of professors and the whole machine that is the school.  Public education is constantly and chronically underfunded.

Smart people who really want to learn will find their way through the system but will have to compete with personalities who will simply lie and cheat their way to whatever they are after.

Some of the dumbest fucks on the planet, whom I have ever met, have had university degrees.  I'm going to leave it at that and move on before my blood pressure bursts a vein.

I was an Officer in the Canadian Navy.  When I was going to Officer School, in Esquimalt, B.C., we had to take Morse Code by flashing light twice a day... early in the morning before breakfast and, again, after even meal and before evening study period.  There were about 100 of us and we teamed up in pairs on the Parade Square where we could all see the flashing light.  One person would read the light while the other person wrote down what the letters were that were being sent.

I had been in the Naval Reserves for over 2 years and was a Signalman... Semaphore flags, Ship's flags, Morse Code, and voice radio communications.  I was a highly trained signalman by the time I joined the regular forces and had completed half the entire communications training there was to be had.  My partner, on the Parade Square, with whom I read the Morse Code from the lights, was a friend of mine from Naval Reserve days.  He had been a Radioman and had gone to Communications School with me at Reserve Training Headquarters.  We knew each other well.

The point of this is that both Bill, my friend and I, knew Morse Code in our sleep and the other Cadets didn't know any code.  It was VERY boring to Bill and I because the letters were being sent so very slowly.  So we were chatting with each other while reading the lights.

There was a Communications Petty Officer sending the signals.  He was one of our training officers.  After the session, one evening, he called out Bill and me for talking out loud and said he was going to send us a "special" test... we had to read the lights again and, this time, it was going to come at us very fast.  The intention was for us to fail and be placed upon detention.  And so we both read the lights... and we both scored 100% with zero mistakes.

The Petty Officer was pretty cool about it.  He congratulated us and said he was wasting his time sending the light Morse Code and, from now on, my friend Bill and I would be in charge of sending the lights... we were both permanently excused from reading the lights, but would now be SENDING the code.  My friend Bill would go on to flight school, but I remained with the surface officers in training and would become the 'go-to guy' if we had to do anything communications and signal related.  I would go on to lead a flag hoisting team that no other cadet team could beat... so we were permanently disqualified from competing again against other cadets and would compete against trained Signalmen... who we also beat.

We could hoist and re-stow signal flags faster than the ship's qualified signalmen could do it.  I trained two other cadets to be part of my team, taught them the layout of the flag locker (it has slots for two of every flag, one for each letter of the alphabet, the numbers 1 to 0, plus about a half dozen specialty flags with special meanings when used... one flag was called "Corpen" which means "standby to...").   We practiced the fastest hoisting and stowing procedures until we were lightning fast.  Yup... if I take on a challenge, I like to be the best.

Proof of that is that ANY object MUST be HERE and THERE at the SAME time, no matter how large... even a Galaxy.  It is always NOW on both sides... here and there, in space,  of the Galaxy... all galaxies, everywhere.  Waves can be either physical or electronic.  The duality of the universe keeps it ongoing.  DNA is the battery of life.  When the chains can no longer co-operate, life ceases in the body.  Life, itself, is a duality.  Time measurement is a relativity convenience.)  Time travel is impossible because time is not a place and nothing stays where it was.  One year from now the Solar System will have moved about seven BILLION kilometres through space and will NEVER return to where it was... ever.

Earth travels through space like a long wave... it has NEVER, ever made an actual circle, nor ellipse, in space.  The circle/ellipse is an illusion of relativity.  Nothing can ever travel in an actual circle in space... NOTHING.  Nothing can ever go backward.  Backwards motion is an illusion of relativity.  Time is a repercussion of change and has no fixed rate... things explode or move like a glacier.  At best we can only compare rates of change.  Our rate of change is called the second/minute/hour/day/month/year system.

Earth moves about 7 billion kilometers through space, each year... in a long wave.  Earth NEVER returns to where it was before.  Earth is NOT an island in space... one of the reasons why time travel is impossible.  If you take a trip through space, outside the Solar System, Earth will NOT be there when you return... it will be far, far away.  You will have to return to where it will BE when you arrive... remember, it's moving very, very, very fast through space in a long wave... never a circle, or ellipse.

Look up the phrase "CRITICAL THINKING" then learn to practice it.  Most people leap before they look and judge before they listen to the facts.  Most don't have enough knowledge, nor experience, to be experts in much of anything.  You don't know what you don't know.  I like to remind you of that, often.

The only other REALLY IMPORTANT thing to know about me is that I, totally, despise all religions, the teaching of religion, and religious institutions... I despise them as the evilest things on the planet.  If you follow a religion, you CAN NOT BE MY FRIEND.   THAT'S THAT.  You are an ignorant idiot who is an ever-present danger to yourself and everyone and everything around you.  Nothing, absolutely NOTHING, is eviler than religion.  I don't stand for, nor sing, our National Anthem because it praises a fictitious and superstitious being called 'God'.  Only a brain dead moron bonehead ignorant idiot would believe such a thing.

If you have a religion, I will not associate with you... period.  You are a danger to be around.  Yes, I insult religions... they are extraordinarily evil.  I said it, I mean it.  You have a right to be an idiot, but not around me.  I have a right to defend myself against the horrors of religion and I will.  Religion is evil.  I can't say it enough times.
