(mainly based on blue beetle 1986)

- natural brown hair, dyes it red in like college because he wanted to do something small to differentiate himself from the nerdy good kid standard everyone views him as. (id say after the events of JLA: Year One #3)

- autistic. i have a section about this in a character study im writing about him but to keep things simple here are some of the signs he shows:

- dismissive of the world around him accidentally

- very fast emotional switches

- overreacts

- isnt good at telling tone (with himself and others, also branching off his dismissive behaviour)

- high intelligence and interest in a specific area

- doesnt like certain textures

- masks alot, especially at parties and stuff.

- struggles with focusing on one task and concentrating

- used to smoke (this is literally canon (melody states in blue beetle 1986 #2))

- has attachment issues, as in, he gets attached to people way too easily and can come off pushy. aftermath of growing up an only child with a dead mother and distant father AND THEN losing your two father figures in a night.

- murray takamoto was his bi awakening (his college roommate, check blue beetle 1986 💪💪)

- kind of(?) adding onto the autistic headcanons, i think he does express himself with rage alot. hes not like a full on brute, obviously. but whether its making a small smartass comment or throwing the papers off his desk at work, he does tend to overreact at times. not saying that he's purposely mean or anything its just because he never had anyone to teach him proper coping mechanisms.

- by the way, teenage dork ted kord with glasses and no bitches is quite literally canon

- overworks himself but only with something he's fixated on. in bb1986 its shown he finds it very hard to sit down and do his work, in contrast to that, he gets carpal tunnel in L.A.W for working on a case too long.

- has nightmares about dan and his death (this too is canon)

- doesn't like to talk or think about negative things, prefers distractions. once again referencing his '86 run, after dans second death he immediately goes to investigate the kid who in someway saved him, instead of properly grieving.

I have a confession while reading and posting about Birds of Prey I had completely forgotten that Ted Kord (i think that was his name? Blue Beetle/BumbleBee?) and Jason Bard were two different people. I need to update my Birds of Prey relationship drama chart, shame on me

Dan not officially being a part of any hero team ever and historically being bad at working together with other heroes (in later works) makes Ted taking the mantle more interesting to me because he becomes a legacy hero which usually (not always) would automatically give you connections to at least some other heroes, but instead that wasn't the case.

I know this is because of how and when Ted was acquired by dc but I just think its really interesting to consider the implications of it

because it's not only the scarab that didn't work for Ted it was also the Mantle that refused to assist him too. I feel like being Blue Beetle was always doomed to unintentionally fail Ted from the start and that's INTERESTING.

while not one of my favorite characters or blue beetle, ted kord deserves more love and appreciation. that man radiates such capybara energy. while superman and nightwing may be the most trusted characters amungst the heroes, ted is the most loved. like he's just such a good guy with little to no conflicts with any other hero or vigilante

on an actual serious note about bb:gd -

reserving final judgement for the series finishing blah blah blah but I'm reallllllly curious as to what affects the upcoming movie had on this story. I know the movie isn't out yet and we don't have a TON of details but the location, new character, the fact that jaime is actually being allowed to age, and i'm betting some other stuff we don't know about yet...like I knew when DC announced they were gonna release bb:gd like a year after it losing RR 2021 it was a decision made based on promoting the movie (especially since jaime has been barely present in comics for a few years now...) but now I'm wondering if the script/plot of the movie had a noticeable impact to the original comic that was pitched...we shall see............
