Smg4: smg4 doesn't meme for 1 second

The crew convinced three to take four in for a therapy session. Tho that didnt solve his problems on complete brain rot with all of the memes.

Three did try his best to make him stay a bit focused on the topic they were meant to discuss with four's own meme problems.

And that didn't work-

Everyone in the crew were sitting in the gaming room watching some tv, they were seen bored as ever without smg4.

Even just a small glimpse with each memeber entirely they've missed smg4 as well. He was their friend, their leader.

Shroomy came in with the mention of "among us" everyone- as in EVERYONE looked at where smg4 is supposed to be sitting at- reminded them the times when he would laugh at couple of meme jokes.

It is pretty much saddened by the crew how worse it could be in a day without smg4 is by at their side could make them feel miserable.

Then Meggy mentioned about missing smg4...

You know who responded to that?

Three himself...

"Yeah...like, if... er... smg4's stupid humor... like actually... made our lives more exciting...and we didn't like... realize it or something?"

"We're going over to that facility... to get SMG4 back!"

Smg3 was the one who knocked the door, he wanted him to come back. Even the crew also needs smg4 back because he wasn't just any other leader. He was already part of them as well.

They could all tell so, even for smg3 too.

Smg3's character development has taken him way more better to where he'd come far off being the evil villain he used to be before then coming to how much important he chose his own path.

"Hi, how are you" gave them the shock on their faces. Like they felt it was already too late to take back the treatment he was given while he was away.

"Woah smg4! Look at the phone! Wow, sk---di! Yeah you like this! Wooh! Sk---di t--l-t! Hehe. Stinky, woaaaaahh!" ★(I had to censor this because I hate reading nor hearing [REDACTED])

Smg3 attempted to try and brighten out his mood. Gave it a chance who mightve thought would work, giving him those meme moments that definitely would make him laugh.

But three didnt even know he wasnt even sure- if he even liked sk---di t--l-t.

Last time we know is that four almost lost his sh-t during that one cintent farm episode, he cringed to the part of mentioning this kind of brain rot.

But now that his mind is not any other that he'd act at all, smg4 became the normal. The person he wasnt supposed to be. Who SHOULDNT be.

Everyone didnt want to lose smg4's senses, they didnt want his own person to disappear SO. they went inside the lab to get back his uhh... meme... thing-

Some of their eyes were relaxed but still worrying for him, while tari and smg3's eyes were a bit widened in shock. (Three was more widened than tari btw)

This indicates that three may have grew tons of roots being there for smg4 as well. That their friendship they both have planted is far beyond than just "sticking" to the sides.

Now that Four is back in his senses, everyone joined in including smg3 to do the... t pose? Whatever it's called.

Three was so happy- to finally get him back- speaking of having the role as a tritagonist, he really mustve took way more care and tells how important he already is to him. Even as a friend.

Honestly the hosts here who've completely have done much was Meggy and Three. Well- mostly three since he'd been convincing the crew to not give up or regret the choices made.

He LITERALLY told them that they need to get him BACK.

Hsr update was a thing that happened... I'm just wondering what is HAPPENING with the writing?? Like it was never good imo but they know how to write in a few companion quests. so they made me really insecure about my writing and also literally none of my headmates like them and we get that we can't stop them from reading our book when it's published BUT we just don't want to talk to them about it or have them read it for free

Your writing is so so gorgeous and complex, and it just feels soooo real—how each person has their own depth—so much thought is put into every word and how it’s framed.

I just read your latest fic, Separated, and my god I SOBBED. It was SO good. I was listening to sad songs too, to get more into the mood, and it made me cry even harder. My heart just dropped out of my body when Reader and Anakin were saying their last words towards each other through the call: they were so emotionally close but so physically far from each other. How they were imagining a different life where everything was more softer and happier, that living handle their souls more gently, when in reality one was killing her, and the other was walking towards a path of destruction? AARAAGGH IM GOING CRAZY WITH YOUR WRITING (COMPLIMENT). I can’t wait to see the second part and how you plan to execute the follow up.

Btw. Do you have any tips on how you can finish writing stories? You write so much and it’s all such high quality. How do you do it? I have so many ideas but I never actually commit to it. I have this idea where Reader is also on par with Anakin’s skills as a mechanic except she gets extreme motion sickness, which I think would be so funny considering she’s good at building ships but not flying them.

(I really hope you’re okay with me posting this I know your first message was sent anonymously so I wasn’t sure but if you’re not definitely just let me know and I’ll get rid of it) but Oh my god I sobbed reading this 😭. Genuinely this is the biggest compliment I’ve ever received and it means so much to me I’m positively overflowing right now and a little upset I cannot find the words to properly express how much this means to me. I already go back through some of the messages Ive received periodically as a little pick-me-up but I already know this one will be revisited weekly it just means so much to me the way you’ve picked up on everything I’ve tried so hard to do well in my writing making the dialog and situations and characters feel real and complex and messy ugghhhhh I love you so much this means the world ���🏻

As far as writing tips for finishing stories I have many cause it’s definitely something I struggle with all the time lol! I’d say the biggest thing for me is to focus on just getting something down rather than finishing a certain work. At any one time I have four or five word documents open on my computer because I’m regularly only writing a scene or a piece of dialog or literally just an idea. A lot of the time I get halfway through something and decide I hate it but keep it there anyways. What usually ends up happening though is I take ideas or scenes from all the different pieces and drop them into my “main story” if I think they fit well so it all works out in the end but just writing (even if it’s not related even remotely to what you feel like you “should” write) is ultimately what’s important.

I also regularly skip around when I’m writing. I find I like writing the big plot points or bits of dialogue the most so a lot of the time I write those first then fill in the gaps later. Finishing a story is a lot less daunting when you already have all of the big pieces in place and just need a few tiny bridges to bring everything together.

Lastly I would say again just get something down on the paper. I’ve written a lot of really bad stuff lol and sometimes I can feel it while I’m writing it and there’s a part of me that wants to just delete it and start over but having the ideas down on the page is always 100% better than having nothing and editing the crap out of what you already have is way easier than starting over from scratch.

Anyways that’s probably way more than what you wanted lol but I really hope it helps! I think just remember this is supposed to be fun, if you’re getting frustration or exasperation out of it more than anything totally feel free to take a step back. I’m known to go MIA for months at a time cause I have periods where I just am not feeling it and forcing myself through it does nothing for anyone.

Whoops here's more about my boy Mio, from my fic Pretty Little Pet where I ship him with Raphael! Some thoughts on:

Mio’s name

Raphael and Haarlep (specifically their relationship in my fic)

Mio’s name

When Raphael asks him what to call him he says “Whatever you want”. And when others ask who he is, he says that he’s Raphael’s pet. So, Mio hasn’t told anyone his name. This isn’t intentional btw, Mio isn’t aware of this.

Raphael only ever calls him “pet” and Haarlep calls him by various nicknames, eventually settling on “kitten”.

I think the contract Raphael made with Mio’s parents doesn’t mention his name, only referring to him by “first born child” because then the contract still works even if Mio changed his name.

All of this means (and I’m not sure yet if I’m making this canon) that it’s entirely possible Raphael doesn’t know Mio’s name. And Mio doesn’t know that Raphael doesn’t know. I just think that’s funny ^^’

I got the name from Astrid Lindgren’s “Mio, my son”, I never read the book but I watched the movie as a kid and just liked the name.

Raphael and Haarlep

(This is specifically about Raphael and Haarlep’s relationship within my fic, not necessarily an interpretation of canon, although I’ve tried to keep it canon compliant.)

When Raphael first received Haarlep he binds them to secrecy with a contract or spell. He still suspects that Haarlep might find a way to tell Mephsitopheles things so he takes care not to let them know anything he wouldn’t want Mephisto to know. (He doesn’t know that Haarlep isn’t there to spy on him, they were literally just sent to distract him from some scheme of his that was getting on Mephisto’s nerves.)

Raphael uses them for sex, which suits Haarlep fine. At some point they both figure out that Raphael is a total sub and while Raphael denies this at first because he’s embarrassed, he eventually accepts it, convincing himself that it’s only because he’s always in charge during his day-to-day life, so of course reversing roles during sex would be a good outlet and let him relax (and yes, that’s part of it, but he also just enjoys being submissive). Haarlep doesn’t actually care about Raphael being a sub and doesn’t think anyone else would either. And while this secret getting out wouldn’t ruin Raphael, it would still embarrass him.

They’ve been together for centuries, Haarlep probably knows Raphael better than anyone else. They’ve been having sex together for so long they’ve become bored of each other. While Raphael has sex with other people as well, he doesn’t want him being submissive to get out, so he keeps it pretty vanilla with other partners and doesn’t have any long term sexual relationships. This means that Haarlep is the only person who can fulfill his needs for when he wants to be submissive. He lets/makes Haarlep dom him all the time, they don’t really have any other kind of sex anymore, even though Haarlep would like to switch it up sometimes.

Haarlep can sometimes really get on Raphael’s nerves, but he can’t easily get rid of them because they were a gift and releasing or killing them would be considered an insult. While he doesn’t really care about what his father thinks of him, killing Haarlep isn’t worth finding out what Mephisto would do in retaliation. Haarlep knows this and likes to push the boundaries, Raphael will punish them if they go too far but sometimes, punishment is better than boredom. 

Boredom is really Haarlep’s biggest problem. As a personal incubus they’ve got it pretty good as far as possible positions for succubi/incubi go. They have at some point convinced Raphael to let other people have sex with them as well, as Raphael didn’t use them often enough and they need at least some “sex energy” to stay healthy, if not alive.

Raphael made them take his form when he was much younger, so that’s why Haarlep looks slightly different from him. Raphael makes them have sex with people who want to fuck him as part of their contract (he words the contract in such a way that it doesn’t actually have to be him). Also the thing where the people whose form they have taken can feel what they feel is something they can turn on and off at will.

Mio and Haarlep

Haarlep doesn’t really care about Mio at first. Raphael will often play around with mortals for a few weeks or months before he loses interest and they disappear. They still like to tease and play with Mio and are a bit annoyed that they aren’t allowed to touch (or have sex with) him. They don’t break this rule because they would be punished too and they would rather keep playing with Mio.

Mio doesn’t really know what to make of Haarlep either. He knows they’re teasing him but at least they aren’t outright mean to him. They are also one of the few people in the HoH, aside from Raphael, he can have any kind of longer conversation with. Mio thinks of Haarlep as a kind of coworker, one who’s been working the job for ages and can be asked for advice, although they might not necessarily help him.

Things change a bit when Mio starts having sex with Raphael. Haarlep is pretty glad to have someone else to take care of Raphael’s sexual needs and give them a bit of a break. Which means they now have an interest in keeping Mio around and at least happy and healthy enough so he can keep Raphael satisfied enough in bed.

Raphael is pretty busy with work (writing fanfiction, stalking finding potential clients, torturing unfortunate souls, etc.) and doesn’t have time to keep either Haarlep or Mio entertained. Which ends up with them spending a lot of time together just talking, playing lanceboard or Haarlep teaching Mio a few tricks to use in the bedroom.

So, while Mio and Haarlep aren’t necessarily friends, they get along pretty well, keep each other company while Raphael doesn’t need them and Haarlep wants Mio to stick around as long as possible so he doesn’t have to visit Raphael’s bed as often anymore.

Aight imma go on a rant about employment law because that's what I'm studying and planning to put my career into. I should note this is UK law, however *some* of this shit is pretty universal. Also, obvious disclaimer, this isn't legal advice.

1. EMPLOYMENT LAW IS WRITTEN IN FAVOUR OF EMPLOYERS. THIS CAN MAKE THEM ARROGANT. UK employment law gives them a huge amount of leeway and is largely written in their favour, and they STILL regularly manage to go over the line to the point of absolute absurdity, to the point of accidentally creating beautifully complete evidence trails for employees to use in tribunal. Why do they do this? Because UK employment law is entirely enforced by individual employees and between the costs of a lawyer and the implied threat that if you take your employer to tribunal you'll never work in your field again (not universally true BTW), they assume they will never be taken to task for it. Employees are generally reluctant to take their employers to tribunal because of the above. What this means though, is if an employee *does* take them to tribunal, the evidence trail is usually extensive AS LONG AS the employee has taken steps to preserve it.

2. SAVE YOUR EMAILS. Any email sent to you by an employer regarding your employment in any way belongs to you. Send that shit to your personal email address, whether or not you think it's sketchy. For every employer. Keep your paper trail. You don't know when you might need it. This goes extra for things like performance reviews/flexible working/reasonable adjustment requests/etc.

3. NOT EVERYTHING IN YOUR CONTRACT IS ENFORCEABLE BY THE EMPLOYER. Employers *love* to stick exclusion clauses in or try to say that handbooks don't form part of your employment contract. They also like to do things like try to classify you as a self employed contractor when really, if you apply the relevant law, you are an employee and have the rights of an employee. Just because your contract says a thing doesn't mean it is the be all and end all. Think of it this way: if you only did what your employer required in writing in the contract, would they be pissed? If so, your contract is probably shit.

4. READ THE DAMN CONTRACT. Make sure you know the ins and outs of your job description, what's expected of you, your pay, overtime policy, where you're expected to work, etc. Just because you might not be able to negotiate it doesn't mean you shouldn't know what it says. This also goes for any employment handbooks. Know what the limits are, know what your hours are, know what your benefits are. Chances are good the employer will ask you to go above and beyond them, or try to pretend you don't have a contractual right to something when you absolutely do. Also, you *can* negotiate on more than you think. For example: employers are not allowed to make deductions from your pay beyond PAYE and National Insurance, UNLESS they have been contractually agreed beforehand. Check to see if they're trying to add a bunch of extra permitted deductions and *challenge* that shit if you feel able to. (My favourite is requiring supposed independent contractors to pay for a uniform. Highly unlikely that you're actually an independent contractor at that point plus fuck you if you want to control what I wear pay for it your damn self).

5. DO NOT OPT OUT OF NATIONAL WORKING TIME REGULATIONS. This is a pretty standard extra inclusion in most people's employment contracts in the UK. It shows up as an extra page of the contract with a separate signing line because they're not allowed to include that requirement as a contractual obligation (in most cases: the big exception is emergency workers) National Working Time Regs limit the amount of hours an employer can require from an adult (over 18) employee to 48 hrs on average, that average being taken over a period of 17 weeks. However, employees can opt out of this, hence the extra piece of paper. The employer cannot dock your salary/terminate your employment/treat you in any negative way if you do not sign this piece of paper. They include it with the contract so that people *assume* they have to sign it. If you're employed and have already signed it, you can opt back in by notifying your employer in writing. Generally this will mean a 3 month period before the regs apply to you again. But *do it*.

6. IF YOUR HOURS ARE VARIABLE, KEEP TRACK OF THEM INDEPENDENTLY. If you don't have a 9-5 contract, this applies to you. This is to make sure that if there's a dispute, you have a record that *you* made of those hours. Ya know, in case the employer decides to conveniently forget about them. I watched OXFORD UNIVERSITY try this shit in a tribunal and they got absolutely wasted because a) it was so obvious (they'd deleted hours spent on marking) and b) the employees had kept an independent record.

7. IF YOUR EMPLOYER DOES SOMETHING SHITTY, YOU HAVE 3 MONTHS FROM THE DATE OF THAT SHITTY THING TO SUE THEM FOR IT. It's one of the shortest time limits in UK law (remember when I said the law is written in employers' favour?), and that time is *only* paused when you involve ACAS (I'll explain ACAS in a sec) and the timer starts again once ACAS issues their certificate. It does NOT stop if you're trying to resolve the issue through internal grievance processes, and attempting to resolve the issue internally is not an acceptable argument if you're trying to extend that time (which you can, under specific circumstances, but try not to rely on that bc it's iffy at best) (yes you can also argue that there have been continuing acts but at that point you need to talk to a lawyer because there are specific rules around that too). There are. So many cases. That I've come across personally. That would be an absolute slam dunk EXCEPT they're out of time.

8. IF YOU WANT TO SUE YOUR EMPLOYER YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH ACAS FIRST. Employment law is the only area of law where you are legally required to try to do mediation first. How much you engage with the mediation is up to you, however the more you do, the better it looks. Mediation does not mean you have to agree with the employer! It just means you get to ask them the questions you want to ask them in official channels. That said, if they roll over and give you what you want during these negotiations, you kind of have to take it: English law says that civil courts can only give you money as a remedy. As much as you might want to have your day in court, civil courts are legally only for getting money out of people, not primarily for the public administration of justice. Yes I hate this too. If you don't take it, the court won't like it and there is a potential that the court *could* award your employer their costs. ACAS can also give you help explaining how the process works etc. Make sure you contact them and start the process ASAP as soon as you decide the thing is worth suing over.

9. READ THE EQUALITY ACT 2010. There are 9 protected characteristics under UK law: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage/civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation. Broadly speaking, your employer cannot treat you negatively because of any of these characteristics. There are qualifications and limits to how far this goes, obviously, but broadly speaking, this is the case. I'll do another post later going into some of this in more detail because the topic is huge but taking a look at the sections that may apply to you is a good start.

10. NOT BEING ABLE TO AFFORD A LAWYER OUTRIGHT DOESN'T NECESSARILY MEAN YOURE OUT OF OPTIONS. First, you *can* represent yourself. It's not an option I'd suggest before you've exhausted all your other options but it is possible. The issue is that you probably don't speak legalese or have access to legal databases, but there is still research you can do on Google. Don't trust everything you read though. Law firm websites are a good place to start, as they tend to write decent articles on the basics of a given issue and they can point you towards some case law. You can also call Citizens Advice for a jumping off point. If you're representing yourself though, the only things you can really reference in court are a) legislation, b) case law, and c) practitioners texts. Remember, case law explains how legislation actually works: it doesn't apply to every situation you might think is covered by it.

Second, most solicitors firms offer free 15-30 minute consultations, where you go in, give them the basics of the situation, and they give you some advice and can signpost you to somewhere you can get more information. This can be really, really helpful and I'd suggest it even if you're planning on repping yourself.

Third, a lot of firms also offer something called a no-win-no-fee agreement, which is about what it says on the tin: if you don't win, you don't pay. Each firm will have different stipulations regarding these, so you should ask what these are. The problem though, is if the firm doesn't think you have a winnable case, they are unlikely take it on that basis (because that means they don't get paid and that's a lot of work not to get paid for). If you do win, they generally take a piece of your winnings as payment (so sometimes they won't do it because you're not claiming enough). It's not a guarantee, but IMHO it's a good option if you have a good case.

Last, there are the pro bono organisations. A lot of places will have a regional pro bono law clinic. These may or may not be able to take your case all the way to tribunal, but if not they should be able to refer you to an org that can. London and its immediate surrounding area has the Free Representation Unit, for example (your case has to be referred to them by another org, usually one of the clinics) but if they can take up your case, they can take it all the way to tribunal and even appeals. Since Legal Aid isn't a thing in employment law (except for discrimination), a lot of these organisations have an absolutely fucking massive caseload though, so there isn't a guarantee that they'll be able to take your case.

I'm sure I'll think of more to add to this later, but this is just the bare bones basic shit that *everyone* should know. A lot of cases don't get brought because people don't know that they a) have rights, b) they don't hold onto documents, c) they don't start the claim in time, or d) all of the above. Given that employment law is only enforceable by the individual, the only way to get employers to play by the rules more often is if people start enforcing it. It's a shit way to do it, but it's what we've got at the moment.

Hello! I am coming to you with Christmas/reveal update: So first of, Merry Christmas, i hope you had a lovely day. And second: yesterday my day started with my brother waking up probably the whole neighborhood by blasting Christmas music and then he immediately forced me to open presents. His “bad present” to me btw was my own candle that was already half used. So that made me fell a bit better about his present. Let’s get to the thing we all care about, btw i was so fucking nervous, it’s actually ridiculous even though I knew he wouldn’t freak out. Anyway: he opened his present and saw the shirt and he started laughing so much and was like ‘oh fuck i can’t wait to wear this to my check up on Wednesday’ and then he found the note… and he stared at it and then looked at me, looked at the note, looked back at me and went ‘isnt that the site that banned porn?’ Out of all things i thought he’d say, that one wasn’t even near the list. And i was like ‘yeah, im sorry. Originally i just wanted to tell the person how you started watching it and how she kinda had something to do with it and then it just kind of…blew up and other people wanted to hear your thoughts’ and he looked at me surprised and went ‘people…as in plural..*looks at me almost a bit scared* so like…do they hate my thoughts and me oooorrr would we be friends if we met?’ And then i told him that to my knowledge, he was liked and the look on his face was priceless ngl. Hey haly, I actually am writing this, filled with a bit of an overwhelmed anxiety. I just started my 2nd year English degree a week ago. However it hasn't even been a year since I entered college. I don't know why my college is doing this but our semesters were cut short to 4 months instead of the normal 6 months. My entire 1st year was spent just me barely being able to finish my books, surviving through online research and had barely any chance to plan out an essay. I basically had to cram in quite a lot from my class notes and the extreme numbers of PDFs or readings sent by our professors. It's just in my 2nd year I really wanna figure things out since I am slowly getting used to this 4 months structure. Can you please tell me what a normal process of studying B.A. English is like? Cause I feel like what I'm experiencing is beyond normal.

Hi, please, please, don't stress. I was in the same boat once. Now I am doing my masters though. I don't know which college you are enrolled in btw. But just know that an English degree may feel overwhelming considering the amount of books and study material to be covered and all to prepare for the exams. It may all feel open ended sometimes, with no start and a definite end. But know that it's not impossible. I don't perfectly remember the course and exam structure when I studied but I remember for sure how overwhelming it felt.

That said, I would suggest you to first get hold of past question papers of your course if you can. It can give you a clear idea of how the questions are asked. You will also know if anything can be skipped instead of cramming and studying every single prescribed text and making notes, answers, essays and assignments side by side. Also, try talking openly with your professors by yourself or as a group (with your classmates). Communicate with them about your concerns regarding the short time and a vast portion to cover. They will help you with how to go around it. The point about literature is that the prescribed study material has to be read as well as notes and answers, most of the times. This is what makes it a herculean task which takes up most of the time. In the end, students either run out of time to make answers and study them or skip reading the books at all which is not always advisable.

Again, please don't worry. I was myself in such a state just a few weeks ago with my masters exams. You will surely wade through it, if you calmly give it a think! All the best. Feel free to text me personally if you wish! 💕🤗

Well, this shaped up to be quite interesting, with two very different bingo cards, though both are from the MCU.

The last POV I read was actually Tony Stark, of all people - I'm reading a fic that centers around Steve and Bucky, but it's through Tony's eyes. Makes for a very amusing read, to be sure, but it's not a POV I usually go seeking out.

These sentiments are worded more strongly than I actually feel, btw - I don't actually despise Tony or want to murder him. Not really. But I do find his character to be very frustrating and annoying quite a lot of the time, especially in terms of character growth. He hits a couple of peaks along the way (I'm particularly thinking of Iron Man 3 and the latter half of Endgame), but so much of the time his character growth just kind of stagnates. Which I guess you could argue is realistic, because growth in real life is rarely linear and steady...but it's still frustrating to watch. I feel like there was a lot of potential to do interesting and compelling things with him, but instead they just kept hitting the same beats over and over again.

That being said, Tony Stark can be very fun to watch, and he has some great lines.

And on the flipside, the last character I wrote was Bucky Barnes, who is in my top 5 characters ever <3 I almost got bingo so many times! T_T

Another character I feel had so much potential, but the MCU just keeps on squandering it! In a different way from Tony, though - because superhero movies apparently have to be high-energy action movies, there's so little time given to quiet character moments, and thus there's tragically few scenes of him just hanging out with his friends (though at least we get a bit more of that in F&WS). And of course they don't like to linger on hugs - Steve and Bucky only hug three times in the entire series! And each is only a brief, piddly little hug as if they're not best friends who've almost lost each other multiple times. A crime against humanity! >:(

But at least with fanfiction I can satisfy my need to see the Angstiest Man Alive take a nap, cry on a friend's shoulder, and hug his best friend so tight it hurts :') The only downside to that is when I remember that such a huge chunk of what Bucky's done and said is wrapped up in the various AUs I write. So I might start gushing, "I just love what a big brother Bucky always is! Like, just think about all the ways he helped out Korey...." And whoever I'm talking to would be like, "Korey? Who's Korey?" okay so after reading this story I did some deep diving bc I’m fascinated by the evolution of folktales over time and I wanted to get how the Cú I was familiar with became the Cú in this story! And now I’m obsessed with this super niche story akdjakjd. This is super long because when I tell you I fell into a rabbit hole, I fell into a rabbit hole:

So from what I’ve gathered from a basic internet search, this is a variation of the Giant’s Causeway tale of Fionn, Sadhbh, and Benandonner. There’s two variations of this story itself that I’ve found: one is the story of Sadhbh, Fionn’s wife, outsmarting Benandonner in a similar manner to the tale you shared. The other is one of Fionn fighting Benandonner while dressed as a baby. Benandonner does appear to be Scottish, while Cú is very much Irish, being from the Irish Kingdom of Ulster. This specific variation seems to be from the 1800s, or at least was first written down during that period.

My theory is that Cú was much more iconic of a character so he was the chosen replacement for Benandonner. The only difference honestly seems to be the name, since Cú is given all the same characteristics Benandonner appears to have had. Cú was small, that was kind of his whole thing, but he does have a story attached to him that’s sort of like this one. Cú Chulainn and Queen Medb had a truce that Cú would refrain from killing Medb’s men as long as she sent up a man for him to duel every so often. He defeated each man she sent, so eventually she tricked Cú’s only match into fighting him. Fer Diad and Cú end up fighting for days before Cú finally slays Fer Diad with the Fir Bolg, which is basically a war crime on a stick, and also why it took him days to actually use it. The Fir Bolg exploded into barbed shrapnel inside of Fer Diad, killing him, and Cú was half dead and miserably grieving his lost companion (these two have heavy Achilles/Patroclus vibes to them btw). I’m not sure if this tale had any motivation for facing off Cú and Fionn in a “strongest man vs strongest man” contest, but it might. Cú and Fer Diad were both like, seventeen, though. Another point of discussion I saw was just that it’d be cool for iconic Irish heroes to face off against each other, even if it went against Irish canon. The Hound vs Fionn in this story was the original power scaling fanfic basically, and the author decided Fionn was stronger obviously, considering Cú’s killed by Fionn dressed as a baby. A bit reminiscent of Cú wearing a fake beard so that men would fight him, since he was actually the baby the whole time and no one wanted to fight a literal teenager.

As for Oonagh/Sadhbh, I’ve found that Oonagh and Sadhbh are actually interchangeable when it comes to the Giant’s Causeway story. Some retellings of this story include Sadhbh, who has an entire myth dedicated to her and Fionn’s love story, and others include Oonagh, who I don’t know much about. In fact, any mention of her in reference with Fionn that I found is exclusively linked to the Giant’s Causeway.

And as a final note about the giants, since that’s super interesting to me: it seems that’s a simple case of religious bastardization. All of the aforementioned characters are pagan. Their stories include gods, druids, fairies, and the like, so it makes sense that they’d eventually change once they started being told by Christian storytellers. As far back as the 1800s, scholars were writing about how Irish myths had been “dumbed down.” From the Giant’s Causeway wiki article, “the pagan gods of Ireland [...] grew smaller and smaller in the popular imagination until they turned into the fairies; the pagan heroes grew bigger and bigger until they turned into the giants,” (Fairy and Folktales of The Irish Peasantry, 1888), which is honestly a good way of putting it.

Have you read Celtic Fairy Tales by Joseph Jacobs? Your recent Cu Chullain posting reminded me of one of my favorite fables from that book, about how Fionn's wife fools Cu when he tries to check if Fionn is as strong as Cu is
