hello, i hope you are well and having a nice day! you recently made this post (https://www.tumblr.com/powderblueblood/743847014582943744/any-additional-thoughts-on-fandom-and-writing-i) about fandom and writing and i wanted to say that i agree with lots of it and, if u didn't mind, share some of my thoughts about ur thoughts, if that's okay with you, because you brought up some points that i agree with a lot but never bothered to put into words.

firstly, omg dialogue is sooooo crazyyyy its the hardest part for me to write personally (in personal projects, i haven't really used this blog for writing yet) but also the most satisfying. i love the feeling of writing something that i feel a real person, and a specific kind of real person would say, and it's definitely the most interesting for me to read, especially in fanfiction because it's where fun relationships between characters can be explored, but t's also the trickiest because it takes me out of the story very quickly if i don't like the way it's written, both in fanfic and original works as well.

also, while i don't really mind shy readers or badass/snarky and sharp readers, my favourite is but reserved and cautious readers a lot.......like.....they aren't shy.....they are suspicious......they are friendly because that's the polite thing to do but they're not gonna freak it with randos who are weirdly hush hush about what they get up to in their free time. also yeah trying to get a middle schooler to think ur cool is the kind of herculean task that humbles you to the ground and i do think it's a little strange sometimes how quickly a very tight knit group of friends would accept a stranger in their midst, as established with max in s2

and yes omg more characters of colour PLEASE, and for stranger things specifically, imo, i want to just say about the show (which i'm not really watching anymore due to various reason amongst boycotting), i was always sort of put off by how they handled their non-white characters, specifically women of colour like kali, who i think is the only notable woc other than erica, and the way the showrunners handled her character rubs me the wrong way, esp as a desi girl. i also think it would be fun to just write like explicitly characters of colour, both oc and y/n/readers, Black readers, Asian readers, Desi readers, Hispanic readers, that are involved with their specific cultures and backgrounds instead of like, very generalised readers that still do, frankly, tend to come off as white, because of that non-specificity and the unfortunate reality that a lot of "blankness" does tend to get filled up by white norms (i really hope that made sense im so sorry if it didn't)

tbh i also don't really see haringrove because billy freaks me the hell out, but omg....what you said about steddie being any two guy syndrome.......tysm for giving me a word for it, i never knew how to put it other than like, not just that i *personally* don't think they had very good chemistry (not saying their not good actors, just that i don't think they had chemistry), but also i did not see it making thematic sense for either of them and their individual character arcs, as well as a little bit of "get the girl out of the way"-ness that a lot of these specific ships (specific as in the trend of any two guy-ness that can arise in fandom at times) tend to have.

also i never thought about it before, but yeah, having a best friend date your ex that you guys broke off on sort of bad, or at least awkward terms, would be a stressful experience to have to ANYONE in that dynamic. i think i like the idea of nancy and her issues with that, but i think exploring robin and the side of oops i like by bff's ex would be fun and the sort of hurt and weirdness that that could bring to a friendship that has been so far very positive and supporting for both steve and robin.

i am so so so sorry for the disjointed nature of this ask as well as its length, you just brought up some points well worthy of discussion and i wanted to talk to you about it. i'm sorry you feel alienated that's not a fun thing to experience, but if it's worth anything, i think it's nice that a (slightly) older person is still passionate and stuff about something i'm interested in. i feel like especially when your a teen it gets easy to imagine that people in their thirties, forties, fifties have lost all the sort of spark and passion that youthfulness is known for when that's not true! it just changes and evolves and maybe you discover new stuff (me rn as i'm sort of over st and not planning on watching s5 and am largely participatory based on joe keery/djo and maya hawke and caleb laughlin and sadie sink) or re-discover things you'd forgotten about, but idk, i hope i'm able to dedicate some time to my hobbies and such as i grow older which can get tough because of life. happy to hear your thoughts and excited to hear back if you choose to respond. have a pleasant day <3!

Fluff Alphabet (Smoker, Crocodile, Katakuri) (R, T, U)

Smoker

R = Romance - How romantic are they? What would they do to make their s/o happy? Cliché or rather creative?

- Smoker, unfortunately, lacks in the romantic department. he’s really new to romance in general and is honestly just too flustered by the overly cutesy things! that’s not to say he doesn’t try, it just doesn’t come naturally to him, so he can be a bit awkward when he tries to be romantic with his partner (but it’s still sweet)

- to make his partner happy, his biggest effort goes into not bringing work home with him. at home, he tries his hardest to put his attention on them, especially after duties where he’s been away from home for a while. he’ll relax with them, ask them all about their day, help with/cook them dinner, and just unwind with them. he’s found himself to be less stressed and more loving due to this!

- something romance-y he does is he always brings a lil trinket of sorts that reminds him of his s/o when he returns from his missions! they’re just little keepsakes that shows he thinks about them while he’s away. some are mailed when he’s not able to return as soon as he anticipated, and sometimes his s/o will find a sweet letter or a picture of him (encouraged by Tashigi of course) attached.

T = Thrill - Do they need to try out new things to spice out your relationship? Or do they prefer a certain routine?

- Smoker is all about routine. since work can be so sporadic and hectic by itself, he much prefers and finds comfort in normalcy in his domestic life. work is thrilling enough, he doesn’t need romantic getaways or other thrilling activities to feel that spark in his relationship. coming home to his loving partner after a long day’s work is enough to get those butterflies fluttering in his tummy. he looks forward to it every single day!

- of course, he doesn’t ever leave his partner bored. when he’s available, he’ll take the time to take them out and go do things with them. some of his favorite things to do with his partner is go on hikes or go fishing! anything outdoorsy really, activities that give him a chance to escape for a bit with his partner. 

- other than this, Smoker appreciates knowing what to expect in his relationship! morning coffee and cuddles, quick kisses before he goes to work, a nice long shower when he gets home, drinking and unwinding with his lover, all the basic domestic things. mundane routines might bore some, but honestly it’s all Smoker could ever ask for.

U = Understanding - How good do they know their partner? Are they empathetic?

- Smoker can’t really pick up on hints to save his life, so it’s much more helpful if his partner is upfront about their feelings. otherwise, he’ll assume everything is totally okay with them. 

- when listening to his partner, he tries his best to be understanding but he almost always approaches it very logically. he’s not very empathetic, he thinks there’s a logical reason and logical solution to every thing. his empathy gets a bit better as the relationship continues on, but he’s still not very emotionally-driven when trying to console his s/o

- as for generally understanding his partner, Smoker knows enough! his downfall is that he just forgets the small things sometimes. like he continuously confuses which flower is their favorite, but he still buys them flowers regardless. he honestly tries his best, he just needs some reminders every now and then!

Crocodile

- Crocodile can be super romantic when he wants to be. he has all the money (and sometimes time) to spoil his s/o, so he’s known to take them out to fancy dinners, buying them outfits for said dinners, and treating them to some romantic strolls around the town. all cliche activities, but he still manages to make them super romantic!

- anything his partner asks for, he’s more than willing to get it for them. and with his power and status, it’s hardly ever difficult to get them those things! gift-giving and spoiling is definitely his form of romance, since he’s not typically verbally romantic. aside from material things, much like Smoker, he tries his best to make the time he spends with them extra meaningful, since work tends to keep him away. so, he gives them his undivided attention and pampers them with extra love when he finally gets to be alone with them.

- something also cliche and romantic he likes to do is just dance with his s/o around their home! it’s always spontaneous, like when they’re cooking dinner or getting dressed to go out, he’ll pull them into him and waltz around the room. if he’s able to, he’ll turn on some music, if not he’ll just hum it. Crocodile’s a pretty snazzy dancer!

T = Thrill - Do they need to try out new things to spice out your relationship? Or do they prefer a certain routine?

- thrill comes in waves. there are some days where he’s too swamped with work to really be in the mood for anything exciting. but, he usually makes up for this when he finally gets the time to spend with his partner. he’s all for vacationing, taking his partner to new and exciting places, spoiling them with fine foods and memorable experiences, all the like. he understands that it’s nice to get away for a while. because he rarely gets the time to spoil his s/o, he tries to go all out when he can. 

- on long weeks when Crocodile is steadily working, there are definitely some routines setting into place. early morning breakfasts, reading the newspaper together, quick dinners, a glass or two of wine, reading before bed, him falling fast asleep before them, etc. it can’t really be helped due to his schedule.

- he’s not unhappy with the routine they’ve developed, but he knows his partner likes to get out every now and then. and he’s convinced it’s good for his mental state as well. so adding some excitement in the relationship when possible is a win-win for both! he mostly just likes to see them pleased so he’ll do almost just whatever it takes to keep them that way.

U = Understanding - How good do they know their partner? Are they empathetic?

- Crocodile is not a mind reader, so don’t try to treat him as such. he’s generally able to tell when his partner is acting a little unusual, but other than that, he much prefers his partner to tell him what’s wrong. only then can he help them get through it.

- he’s not very empathetic and he’s not very good at emotional help. Crocodile has his own way of handling things and has found himself expecting them to do the same. when this doesn’t work, he budges a little. he’s not always the best at giving advice, but he’s learned to be a great listener! he’s also great at offering distractions to help his lover not dwell on what is upsetting them.

- Crocodile has their favorite things down to a T, it never fails. he loves giving them gifts after all, so once they told him all their favorite things, he made sure to take note and proceeded to buy excess amounts of all of them. he has all anniversaries and their birthday marked on his calendars, otherwise he knows he’d forget.

Katakuri

R = Romance - How romantic are they? What would they do to make their s/o happy? Cliché or rather creative?

- Kata is another shy man when it comes to romance. he wants to be so much more romantic than what he is, he just gets too flustered by it all! he hasn’t had a lot of luck with love and relationships, so he’s a bit new to it all. he also doesn’t want to screw anything up, so he tries to stick to things he’s familiar with.

- lots of nice, private dinners. food is his family’s specialty, so there are lots of dinner dates throughout the relationship. picnics, Kata loves going out with them on picnics. it took some convincing at first, as we all know Kata prefers to eat in privacy, but they found a perfect spot on Komugi Island by a pond where no one could bother them. since then, that’s how Kata likes to show his romantic side and keep his s/o happy, weekly picnic dates.

- realistically, Kata does quite a lot to keep his s/o happy. he involves them in most of his work, makes them feel like family (by making sure his family loves them almost just as much as he does), protects them, and just loves them to death! there’s really no room for questioning, it’s all evident in his actions. he’s a little blushy when being verbally romantic and it’s just so sweet because it’s obvious that he is trying. he’s been waiting for the right love to come along, so he makes sure to keep the romance alive in their relationship.

T = Thrill - Do they need to try out new things to spice out your relationship? Or do they prefer a certain routine?

- Kata is up for trying new things, he doesn’t ever want his partner to get bored of him after all. the picnic became a new addition to their relationship that he has grown to love, so he’s become open to other things. the more secluded, the better of course. he doesn’t want to do anything crazy or dangerous like cliff diving or sky diving, but going out into the town, shopping, strolling, etc. is always a nice change of pace.

- he’s getting older, so he wants someone to settle down with. thrilling adventures are a thing of the past, he just wants someone to love and care for, so he wouldn’t dare put them in any risky situations. as mentioned, some leisurely activities like picnic dates or cooking together is about all he can offer. he doesn’t mind routine one bit, just as long as he has them.

- for their fancy dinner dates, he likes to have something new prepared every time. he’ll always include family members and their specialties. and since there’s so many of them, there’s always an opportunity for something new to eat! there is some routine regarding family stuff as well. meetings, dinners, all the like. the best is family game night, and honestly, that can be pretty thrilling lol 

U = Understanding - How good do they know their partner? Are they empathetic?

- throughout the relationship, Kata develops a deep emotional connection to his partner. he constantly studies his partner when they’re not looking, and has a clear understanding of their normal mannerisms. so when they start acting strange, he notices immediately. and after some time, he knows exactly how to cheer them up. he’s very attentive to his partner’s love language and needs! 

- it took a bit of adjusting, but after some time, Kata has learned how to approach arguments or when his partner is upset. he’s a great listener, rarely does he ever get defensive, and he tries his hardest to be empathetic towards their feelings. communication is something Kata has greatly improved upon and thus has greatly improved their relationship.

- Kata knows his partner up, down, and all around. even the most obscure things like their favorite season, the way they act when they get nervous, or how many pairs of shoes they own. his mind is like an encyclopedia of his partner lol he just feels like he can’t afford to mess anything up, so he makes sure to take note of everything he can about them so he can keep them happy!

this is another one i think about a lot

on the one hand, (my favorite hand) ‘chosen’ could be almost synonymous with ‘soulmate’. like a kirk and spock situation, or sherlock and watson, the ghost and guardian become inseparable and compliment each others strengths and weaknesses. where a ghost could be shy and soft-spoken, their guardian could be vibrant and assertive. where a guardian could be impulsive and mercurial, a ghost could be stable and pragmatic. we see it in saint and geppetto, osiris and sagira, zavala and targe, im sure that sundance was at least 60% of caydes impulse control and probably the brains behind the operation bc we all know she was in on his bullshit 100% of the time but hed have been perma-dead long before forsaken if she wasnt also the sensible one between the two.

just that kind of seamless partnership, not necessarily romantic, but just. one of those deep and profound soul connections that comes only once in a lifetime. (thats not to say it cant be romantic, i mean anything is possible when youre that close to someone and essentially neurally linked til RTL death do you part; obviously one losing the other is an emotionally and psychologically devastating event in addition to physically. looking directly at osiris for this one. you loose someone youre bonded with that closely and it completely rips your life apart.)

on that same hand: things happen. things can go wrong. fundamental differences can still cause a rift between two people regardless of how close they are. ikora and ophiuchus come to mind off the top of my head, and im pretty sure theyve gone decades without so much as speaking to each other. id believe it if someone said they were never even in the same room together until the exact moment ophi needs to be there for utility.

on the other (tangentially related) hand, weve seen plenty of examples where ghosts and their chosen dont get along at all. what are the circumstances there? was there a Spark? does their little paracausal postmortem soul-reading tell them about the potential of their guardian in terms of power only, and for that reason they searched for the potentially strongest guardian they could find regardless of whether they felt some deeper connection? not all ghosts were created equal, after all, and they can range from gentle and supportive to selfish and cold just like we do. would that misalignment without the spark cause an instant rift between them and make for a terminally unstable partnership?

and what is that spark? how do they know? is it guesswork? is it a light-resonance like the bond between souls in soul eater where they search and search and they sift through rough or sharp or jagged light sensations until they find the one that slots in perfectly with their own? each ghost is just as unique as each guardian, and they may be able to communicate with each other instantly over vast distances, but theyre certainly no hivemind. theyre just as alive and willful as guardians, just in a much smaller package.

the ghosts that have lost more than one guardian; was it just a matter of “its not meant to be” because they didnt resonate on a light level and some paracausal force corrected that in the most brutal way possible to avoid losing one of them to the darkness? (arguably a fate worse than death from the travelers standpoint) because while the gardener is certainly what we assume to be the ultimate benevolent force of nature, its still a force of nature in its own strange way, and nature can be the most ruthless of teachers. imagine a ghost, for any reason, looking for what they hope to be the strongest guardian in the system but they lack the foresight and responsibility or the maturity to handle that strength with grace and skill and that guardian goes bad.

it dovetails nicely into post-collapse society, with risen becoming warlords when they find out theyre essentially gods made flesh -- they can do whatever they want to whoever they want, and whos gonna stop them? some mortal with a dinky little gun? please. unchecked power corrupts, without fail. the ghosts are still young then, and scared and seeking power for protection, for guarding this increasingly endangered species, but mistakes are going to be made when desperation is whats driving you. imagine they try harder with the next one, still looking for someone strong, but they fail again and again until they decide to let destiny (ha) guide them to The One, putting out their little feelers until they reach a spark of light that feels like home.

theres so much to chew on. i dont think the ghosts even really know, even if they could find a way to explain it beyond “idk man, felt right at the time”. theyre stumbling blindly through all of this right alongside us. while they certainly feel, or at least understand, the travelers will, they dont exactly have it on speed dial for any questions that come up. it made them just like it made us in that desperate scramble for survival and protection against its exact polar opposite.

How You & I Will Be (series) by @katehuntington

I’m nominating this fic, which (fair disclosure) I beta’d becuase it does a really really really really great job of fulfilling the brief it set out to achieve: making you cry.

It’s a story of unrequited love between Dean and the reader and it’s doomed, from the outset.  Kate unpacks nearly every angle and moment and hold them up for you as they burn away, right in from of your eyes.  Ruby-level patience.  Nice at brutal.

The First Bite  (oneshot) by @shy-violet-soul

Firstly, can I just say that I am absolutely in love with their work? The writer is so sure of what they want to say and know exactly how to say it. And that is a rare thing, when no word is unnecessary. I absolutely fell in love with the characterization of young Dean and Sam. And the OCs are enchanting. Don’t remember the last time I fell in love with an OC so quickly! And the husband-wife duo in the fic are simply adorable. The context and background of the story paint a lovely picture. And Dean… damn that boy breaks your heart. All in all would recommend it 100% Go check the author out!

I never thought I would ever commit to a 65 chapter series, but damn! this one felt like a couple of pages, and even after it ended, I was running around my room, screaming like a zombie with “MOREEEEEEEEEEEE.” This could have very well been a parallel world in itself. Like another reality that Jack could create a rift to, where the Winchesters are happy. They have this sister/mother/friend figure in their lives who is absolutely awe-inspiring. She is tender, good and badass but oh so realistic with her feelings. I go back and read the timestamps a lot and my fav chapter where they are in the hotel room at the very end and prank the hell out of everyone else. I was in splits the first time and still am. This doesn’t white wash John, but brings out the best in him. JUST. GO. READ IT. You are fucking welcome!

Living With Regrets (series) by @thing-you-do-with-that-thing

The pain!! OH GOD THE PAIN!! The author can personally attest to how I hounded her over this series in her IMs. The timing of each chapter is so perfect that it just leave you with the right amount of angst and desperation for the next chapter. I wanted to push both the characters together and close the door behind them so they could just fucking TALK!! I am emotional about this okay? Also while I wanted to hug and cuddle the little OC, I wanted to strangle and murder the other one!! This series brought out quite a lot of passion in me, one that I didn’t know I had the capacity of feeling over a fictional work, still does. It is an adorable little world that you all should definitely be a part of! Go…go….go!!

Silk and Rough Velvet (series) by @blacktithe7

SARV was the first long series I attempted to read. Also the first AU. It altered my life. Rockstar!Jensen suddenly became a real thing. Y'all have no clue how much this series had awed me. Even now when I mention the series to a third party, my first reaction is - “You haven’t read it? What are you doing with your life?” It has the perfect amount of love, angst and fluff. Gosh! It is the freaking best! Most days there are no words. Today is one of them!

Series Rewrite (series) @torn-and-frayed

A true masterpiece! I don’t know how do you even begin to attempt something like this. The reader is inserted in the rewrite SO FLAWLESSLY!!! SO EFFORTLESSLY that it is crazy! Like what even??? I mean she has a personality of her own. And as strong a presence as Sam or Dean. More importantly, she does not undermine the relationship of the brothers. Does not take away from their moments, all the while creating her own bonds. I love that she is in love with Dean. But damn, I love what she has with Sam, too. The author manages to perfectly capture the essence of the rewrite in the best way possible. Excellent job!

Fresh Start (series) by @like-a-bag-of-potatoes

This one is unique in it’s uncomplicatedness (that isn’t a word, but deal with it) Like whoa, the reader is so fucking relatable! I am sure all authors can relate when they make a reader super-strong, super-understanding, super-witty. This one is just super-relatable. And that is the hardest fucking thing to do! The OC is charming AF, and the underlying pain of a dead lover is significant. It is not in your face, it is not too underplayed, but it’s subtle and THERE. Kudos at having achieved the perfect balance of everything. It is rare and awesome! Read this ONE!

Close Every Door (series) by @jotink78

I have never known the sort of pain and angst that this series inflicted on me, I kid you not. I wanted to steamroll everyone,and everybody. If you caught me reading a chapter, there was a good chance that I was either feeling extremely murderous and was sobbing incessantly in the corner. I’ve said it before, despite being one of the kindest people, the author sure knows how to be cruel when it comes to writing. This series is sure to rip your freaking heart part, stomp all over it and out it back. BUT SO WORTH IT!!

More Than You Bargained For (series) by @luci-in-trenchcoats

Best bodyguard!AU I have ever read. It was fun and exciting without getting too palpitating, which is good because the chase and suspense were fantastically written. And the twist at the end, you’d never fucking see that coming. I bet!! I love how they slowly fall for each other even through all their differences. This one I couldn’t put down, it was so good. If you are looking for something to curl up with on a cozy and comfortable Saturday, this is your THING!! Don’t forget to curl in with a blanket and hot mug of coffee before you get started!  

Five years of Christmas (oneshot) by @deanssweetheart23

This is a life worth’s contentment packed in a single fic, neatly wrapped and gifted to you. The words have the softness of petals and the harshness of shards of ice that pierce you and then you die! But then come back later. The author doesn’t only make fiction out the words…. she makes poetry. It flows, straight into your heart. Now, you might think I am being cheesy, but read the fic and then come back. We’ll see who is cheesy then! But seriously, y'all need to get behind this. It is the freaking best. I am in love <3

and chan gave woojin a creme egg (soz i dont like this either lmao)

he seriously thought chan was over-exaggerating but no they are normally this crazy

they’re acting as though they’re on a sugar rush at 11 in the morning

is definitely dad 2.0 of the group

jeongin probably actually said that and now all the youngers actually call him and chan The Dads™

they also made woojin and chan fight it out to see who the ultimate dad was

woojin won lmao

and chan was highkey salty a bit sad

he also made food at home and brought that with and wow it was a terrible idea sharing it with 8 hungry lil’ kiddos

they all stole his food and left him with scraps lmfao

slight over-exaggeration but they did take his food

and then got the other dad (aka chan) (this reminds me of coraline lmao) to take them out somewhere

so they hit up the nearest fast food place

managed to get the largest table there and

as patiently as possible for them

waited for chan to bring them buckets of their food :)

before they hit up the convention again and met more people

there were even stations that others had set up where people could play against each other

that’s where they all learnt that woojin makes the most rookie mistakes ever but isn’t half bad

that’s also where they formed the SK clan lmao

woojin is so, so happy chan invited him to the con because now he’s met some of his best friends ever and he doesn’t know what he’d do without any of them

always feel like, as one of the oldest, he has to look after these guys

and so he’s lowkey protective over them

hates seeing negative comments about them anywhere

will throw shade at people in his videos

but he does it with a smile it’s lethal

don’t mess with his babies
