FAQ #BIPOCtober Week (October 13-20) for Audio Drama

We'll edit this as we get asked more questions!

What will you do during the week?

We'll be doing feature posts! We'll make posts about 1-2 audio dramas per day depending on how many we collect in our list. We'll be mentioning their titles and summaries, where to find them, their creators, etc.

We also plan to do mini-features for BIPOC creators and characters who aren't from BIPOC majority shows.

We'll also be sharing posts from the tag itself by fans spotlighting their own faves :)

What can I do to take part in the event?

If you are a BIPOC creator or BIPOC majority show, feel free to get in touch to get featured or mini-featured. For those who have already reblogged or messaged about your show, we've added you to our list. We'll post our list right before the start of the week so people can see if they aren't there; we can edit and add them. If you are a fan of a BIPOC character, creator, or show, you can make fanart, fanfiction, posts, and other fan creations to celebrate this character. Use the #BIPOCtober hashtag to share it with others on Tumblr. You may even share it on other platforms; however, we'll only be sharing posts on Tumblr. We won't be sharing any posts marked with adult content or warnings; though we welcome their inclusion (as long as they have proper warnings, read mores, and other safety measures!)

I am a BIPOC creator but work on a White majority show. May I still have a feature?

Yes of course! Our main features will spotlight BIPOC led/majority shows, but we will happily do mini features on specific creators and characters, even if they come from a White majority show.

Can I spotlight BIPOC characters from popular and/or White majority shows?

Absolutely! Give them love, show your appreciation! We just won't feature them since we're mostly trying to spotlight smaller or medium shows that need more appreciation and attention :)

Can I spotlight characters with no established race that I headcanon as BIPOC?

No. We're aiming to spotlight canonically BIPOC characters, shows, creators. However; if the VA is BIPOC or there are evident narrative elements strongly implying / pointing out that the character is BIPOC, feel free to share!

The double standard Zutara shippers have towards Mai vs Katara is absolutely icky. I saw a post a while ago (don’t remember the user) and screenshotted all the Mai can’t vs Katara can points. I’ll paste them here:

- Katara threatening Zuko if he dares to hurt Aang is a sign of reprimanded sexual tension, but Mai joking about Zuko never daring to break up with her again it's her being controlling.

- Katara screaming at Zuko that, to make her forgive him after he proved to have changed and be a better person to everyone else, he'll need to bring back her dead mother, as if 10 years old Zuko is responsible for Yon Ra killing Kya, is fair. Mai screaming at Zuko to leave her alone after he made a scene insulting her in front of a crowd is abusive, violent and toxic.

- Katara treating Zuko badly after he saved her from being crushed is legit and deserved. Mai slapping Zuko's hand away from her in two separate occasions because he wouldn't stop invading her boundaries after a highly emotional moment is harsh, undeserved and abusive.

- Zuko mocking Katara and telling her that he'll save her from the pirates is cute. Zuko being actually cute with his girlfriend is cringe and obviously something he didn't want to do.

- Katara splashing Zuko when he was kneeling down in the southern air temple episode is justified. Mai throwing a SHEET OF PAPER at him after he broke up with her and ghosted her is abusive and violent.

-Katara touching Zuko's scar in the catacombs to heal him is cute and a moment of trust. Mai touching Zuko's scar multiple times and him not being bothered by it in the slightest (even burying his scar in her hair) is a breech of trust and consent.

- Katara having many guys who have a crush on her throughout the series means she has rizz and that she's a catch. Mai having one boyfriend other than Zuko makes her a slut.

- Mai and Zuko being childhood friends to lovers is cringe and an overused trope, but then you'll go on the Zutara tag and find multiple fanarts of childhood friends Zutara AUs

- Katara establishing boundaries and making her stance on breeches of trust well known with multiple characters is good writing. Mai breaking up with Zuko after he lied to her multiple times means that she isn't worth sticking around, and is so selfish that she'll leave Zuko in a moment of need.

- Katara had three children while Mai only had Izumi, which means Katara is a better woman (yes, I've actually come across this kind of disgusting comment.)

- Zutarians claim that Katara is apparently reduced to a housewife and child bearer with no agency as Aang's wife (she is a well known master, wonderful healer AND politician as she made bloodbending illegal in canon), and would be better off as the fire lady (????), but at the same time Mai is nothing special because she is just the fire lord's wife while Katara is a master. Like, make it make sense. Being a fire lady is either "demeaning" for both or for neither.

+ Zutara fans making Izumi Zuko and Katara's daughter, and then proceeding to make a rant on how Mai is NOT Izumi's mom despite her looking exactly like Mai and Michi PLUS having "fountain" a significant name in Maiko's love story, in her name.

I’ve been silently reading all the anti zutara here and thought of sharing my piece. I would like to hear what you think too

God, the Izumi one pisses me off the most because:

1 - Neither Katara nor Zuko would EVER just refuse to raise or even acknowledge a child of theirs. Katara's whole trauma is about having to grow up too fast after her mother's death. Zuko's whole trauma is growing up with an abusive father that kicked him out of the house. They would NEVER abandon a child of theirs.

2 - Neither Katara nor Zuko would ever forgive a former partner if said partner had a kid with them and then abandoned said child, again, because of their own traumas.

But also HOLY SHIT, zutara's brand of "feminism" never ceases to shock me. "A better woman has more kids"? Seriously? And here I thought the worst take I'd ever see from them was "Zuko needs to marry a woman of a different race because his genes are bad, but he is one of the good ones, and Katara could fix his defective genetic that makes his kind more likely to be violent - no, I never heard the term 'eugenics', what's that?"

And yeah, funny how they're constantly going on and on about how being Fire Lady would totally "empower" Katara, but the second Mai is the one to marry Zuko, suddenly that role is oppressive and disrespectful towards a woman.

Hello everyone, Cheapmod here! Many of you reading this probably have not met me, so hello! Nice to meet you! 👋 You can call me Py if you’d like!

Right off the bat, I just want to make sure nobody worries since this post got kinda long. Here’s the gist of it!: Cheap’s blog is going to be continuing! It has not ended, and it won’t be for some time. I want to thank you all for sticking around and giving this blog so much love, and I encourage you to seek out additional askblogs you would enjoy cause there are many out there to love!

Okay with that out of the way, some further context for that and other things I just wanted to take the chance to say while I’m speaking out of character.

First, Im so sorry to anybody who’s been worried about Cheap, the state of this blog or me. I promise, we are both okay and this blog is continuing!

I just took an unanounced break from ALL my projects to focus on approaching art and writing more healthily. I was on break for longer than I thought I might be but I have not stopped thinking of Cheap and all of you out there. I am planning on returning to bring Cheap back to everyone soon! As a heads up, I will be experimenting more with the art style for this blog just to see if I can make things a little more quick and fun for myself!

As for the esteemed host of the show, Cheap is doing just fine! Nothing has happened to him since the last update. I would like to note that the real life passage of time will not always affect him. I will need to take breaks like this every now and then for my own sake and other priorities. If that happens, we will generally pick up right where we left off! I’ve also got many fun and interesting things planned for this blog, so I couldn’t possibly stay away for too long!

Now for something very important…you guys!!

I cannot thank you all enough for the incredible reception Cheap has recieved!! It means so much more to me than I can possibly express in words and seeing every last bit of it has really warmed my heart 🥺 Thats why its very important that I come back and make sure all the wonderful questions, comments and compliments you’ve sent in are responded to and addressed in time!!

As WELL I am so delighted that I have been seeing some incredible pieces of fanart from you guys!!!! I REALLY want to thank you each individually as i have been doing so far!! The reason I haven’t said anything yet about any fanart is because I want to give each one the dedicated attention it deserves!!! And that will be coming soon and coming first with the continuation of the little intermission we started on for giving these works a highlight!

With some hiatuses and pauses in-between, Cheap will have been around for 11 years. I can hardly believe it! I’m very happy to be running his blog again with this little revival here and Im so happy I made a character who has had a chance to develop so much and endured as one of my favorite OCs. It is in large part thanks to all the support and attention he’s received through all these years across all his blogs that I bring him to you all today and im so grateful to all new and longterm fans. I hope you will all continue to enjoy Cheap’s shenanigans as much as I do! Thank you!!

An E/riel said that “Emerie and Rhys have a better chance at being friends than Gwyn and Rhys - he already flies her to and from Illyria” and while it is possible that Rhys and Emerie will become friends, I still believe that Rhys and Gwyn are going to become very good friends for many reasons, but that’s a whole different post.

And while we’re on the topic of Emerie, E/riel’s only bring her up when they want to put down/make Gwynriel’s, Gwyn stans, and Nesta stans look bad (I stated this in another ask). That we don’t care about her and we forget about her. Emerie week was announced not too long ago and the majority of them were dead quiet. “Emerie deserves better” they say and then it’s radio silent from them. It honestly feels performative. I have a lot to say about this actually.

The majority of Gwynriel’s/Valkyries fans have made so much fanart of Emerie (and Emorie), short fics, headcanons, little blurbs of how she inspired young girls in Illyria, theories of her getting green siphons or even getting Truth-Teller, and praise her for being brave and hardworking. I’ve even seen some say how it would be cool if Emerie got a little camp of her own for the woman who want to be a Valkyrie and it would be like a safe haven. And if E/riel’s have the Gwynriel, or Gwyn, or Nesta, or Valkyries tag blocked then that’s probably why they don’t see some of it. Even without those tags there is still lots of love for Emerie, so when I see them talk about how we don’t appreciate her or only care about Gwyn because we ship her with Azriel it makes no sense to me.

And also, a lot of E/riel’s bring down the Valkyries by calling the sleepover and them making friendship bracelets childish, how the three of them aren’t really friends because all they’ve done is hang out a few times and read books and had a sleepover (?), saying the Blood Rite was lackluster/stupid, “the power of friendship”, etc. So how exactly is bringing down those girls and their friendship being supportive of Emerie? (I think they only do this because they don’t like Nesta or Gwyn).

This topic really makes me heated and annoyed. Like I said it just feels performative from E/riel’s. @yazthebookish actually made a very good post talking about this a little bit ago, but I think it’s deleted now. (Apologies to Yaz if I made you uncomfortable with tagging you❣️)

sorry for responding late. There's a heatwave, and I'm just barely surviving it.

Every *feminist*, girls girl take from E/riels feels performative and fake. They always end up saying something indirectly misogynistic.

It is funny when they ridicule Valkyries but pretend to love Emerie. Do they know she's also a Valkyrie? And she loves Gwyn and Nesta. And she's a cool character with lots of potential. Especially considering the Illyrians plot.

Unfortunately, as it's a romance series, we are interested in speculating about romance. Hence, the ship wars. I don't particularly enjoy Mor, and that's why it's hard for me to think about the possibility of Emorie. I think Emerie deserves better, but at the same time, I need at least one wlw ship. (Pls sjm, give us something sapphic.) So when there is not much to fight or speculate about... there are just fewer discussion points. We still show appreciation for the character, tho.

I think we would all as a fandom have more energy to discuss Emerie more if we didn't have to debunk more and more unhinged E/riel theories and block trolls every day.

Fandom Etiquette Guide

Hello RA fandom! Over the past several months, there have been a few things I've seen repeated in this fandom that need addressing. I've had talks with multiple creators in this fandom, and there seems to be a general agreement that the RA fandom has a lack of understanding of fandom etiquette. As a fanartist, I'm going to focus on the general etiquette that comes with interacting with fanart, but a lot of this applies to fanfiction and other fan works as well. These are situations that as a fan, you ought to avoid. This fandom has already lost a few wonderful artists and creators because of how often these situations happen. It's up to us to keep our creators in the fandom and well cared for!

Situation 1: Stolen and Reposted Art

We all have seen art from our beloved artists that is uploaded to Instagram or Pinterest without permission. This steals credit from the artist, and means that potential fans never actually go to their account or interact with them. What a lot of people don't realize is that this applies to posting art in discord servers as well. You should always include a credit if you are posting art that you did not draw. Another prevalent problem found in this fandom is the issue of traced art. If you trace another artist's rendition of a character and post it as your own this is art theft. You can keep that tracing to yourself, and build your skill until you can post your own drawings.

Situation 2: "This doesn't look like___"

If an artist or author depicts a character in a way that doesn't match your mental image, your job is to walk away without leaving a comment. It is not kind or appropriate to tell artists that they have failed to depict the character accurately. If you would like the character to look different, it is your job to draw it. Never tell an artist or that their character doesn't look right.

Situation 3: Unsolicited Art Critique

Similar to the above situation, you should never tell an artist that their art is flawed or technically incorrect unless they have specifically come to you and asked for your input. Art critiques do not belong in the tumblr tags or any social media comments. Even if you see something that looks like an obvious fix, you should not point it out to the artist or author. This is one of the ground rules for any artistic or creative space. Unsolicited art critique is the #1 way to make sure an artist leaves a fandom and doesn't return.

Situation 4: The Never Reblogger

An artist or author's work can only be seen through the reblog function--this is the foundation of tumblr. If you appreciate your artist or fanfic author's work, you need to show that appreciation not just through likes, but through reblogging it to an appropriate blog! When artists or authors spend a lot of time on a work and it never receives anything but likes, they are likely to think that their work will be received better elsewhere. Reblogs show a creator that their work deserves to be shared! Reblogging works so well because it attaches the creator's name to the image you are sharing--it is not the same as reposting, which when you take the creator's blog off the post and upload just the artwork onto your own blog as its own post.

Conclusion

In all, this fandom is a wonderful place to create. I truly believe that we can make it even better, and make sure that our remaining artists and authors feel inspired and welcome to create here.

What do you think would be the most interesting/hilarious crossover Subaru could stumble into. Either pre-canon or canon (or maybe even IF story), because he gets into situations, regardless of the timeline.

What ships do you like?

Do you ship rezero characters with characters of other series? If you do which ones?

And lastly, do you think Subaru deserves à vacation?

I don’t really do/think about crossovers so much unless I get particularly inspired for some reason—I’ve had some AU thoughts about Re:Zero but I’ve never really bothered considering crossovers for it. Subaru is a difficult character to transpose out of his setting & original plot without doing a LOT of work vis a vis how you manage his character arc. Though actually precisely bc of that maybe the most interesting crossover to me would be if canon Subaru got a glimpse of himself if he had been dropped in a more traditional isekai (I don’t know nearly enough about classic isekai to pick one though) and the kind of person he would’ve become if he was just handed a bunch of awesome powers and people who think he’s cool without ever being called on his shit (the absolute worst version of himself). Relatedly, to your third question, nah I p much never ship characters outside their franchise. Even if they don't directly interact I need them to at least exist in the same/similar enough context or interact with some of the same people in order to get the shipping tickle in my brain. Again unless something particularly inspires a crossover idea, but even then, I will at most do like, bullet point ideas that are mostly meant to be funny to me. I almost never read crossover fic and I’ve never written it.

On ships in general… okay look. I am a) multishipper galore and always one good piece of fanart from being interested in whatever ship idea you want to pitch to me, but b) not primarily into this show for ships and c) at most poking the Re:Zero fandom with a ten foot pole for pretty fanart and usually staying well away from it except to make posts for my own amusement and like six of my friends. I can’t go in the Ao3 tag for it. Every time I do I start wanting to stab things. My current strategy to make re:zero fandom for myself by slowly luring all my friends into watching re:zero is having a shockingly good success rate but yeah the fandom at large is…… holy lack of reading comprehension Batman.

For whatever it’s worth, just as, things I will yell the most about while watching, I am deeply invested in Rem and Subaru in whatever configuration of relationship you want to put them in, I like Rem/Ram because I’m me, and idk that I really know enough about Satella to have Thoughts but I am So Normal about Satella/Subaru Jesus fuck the love love love love love you bit. (NB: I’m anime only with this series so far, please no spoilers.) Emilia/Subaru do make me soft, Subaru and Otto should queerplatonically own a cottage and 37 pets together, and Crusch/Felis are a t4t couple and I shan’t be told otherwise. Actually the ship I’ve probably Thought the most about though is Julius/Subaru. Why did they put in a loop where they speedran an enemies to lovers tragic boyfriends arc. What was that about.

But all of that is secondary to my desire to watch Subaru get the shit beat out of him 😂 which, to your last question—does he DESERVE a vacation? I mean, sure, boy’s been through the biggest boatload of trauma one can imagine and he’s not a bad person even if he’s an asshole with a lot of baggage to unlearn. Do I want him to GET one? Absolutely not, that boy was made in a lab for me to squeeze him like a stress ball

but fandoms are communities and fandoms are always defined by the worst people, even if it feels unfair. there's not any fan content or meta contradicting just evil akechi, its been years and this is what the fandom wants. that's what most people are saying. there's nothing making those people feel unwelcome in fandom, but they make others feel unwelcome.

Okay, I see what you're saying. But I dunno, maybe we're just in different sections of the fandom, but I haven't had the same experience as you. I've seen lots of fan content that favors a more balanced approach with Akechi and acknowledges both sides to his character. I've read popular fic with an interpretation similar to my own that gives Akechi a soft side while acknowledging his rough edges and giving him a place to belong with the Thieves and Akiren. That all exists. Maybe you just need to widen your scope a little, or find different people to hang out with?

I don't really care if people are going to "welcome" my interpretation of Akechi or not. I'm going to write meta about him and explain why he's special to me and what he means to me and I don't give a damn if sections of the fandom aren't happy with that.

I believe you may have left me another ask I left unanswered because I wasn't sure how to address it, but let me copy and paste some of what I left in the drafts.

Goro Akechi, and his dynamic with the P5 protagonist, are complex and dark and messy. Fan interpretations are going to allude to their past. Akechi literally tried to murder Akiren--their dynamic is inherently based on very dark concepts and incredibly complex and tragic emotions on both sides. Akechi himself is messed up. He’s a murderer who tried to kill the one person he ever grew attached to and killed many just to get revenge on one man because his own hatred for his father twisted him to a point beyond recognition. He’s desperate for belonging but he pushes away anyone once they get marginally close, and he’s not afraid to hurt people in the process.

If you have a problem with anything that alludes all of that, then I'm sorry to say you're just not going to like most of the content about Akechi. Fanart and fanfic are going to explore those aspects of his character.

That all said, I’m sorry if you’ve been made to feel unwelcome in the fandom. Use the block button--I’ve done that myself to someone who wouldn’t stop commenting on my posts about Akechi with blatant falsehoods about his character. And create your own experience. I’ve found lots of people who agree with me about Akechi and are creating content that’s sympathetic toward him. Most of them happen to be Shuake/Akeshu shippers (like myself) from what I’ve seen but I’m unsure if you’d be into that. (But for the record, it’s not all abusive.) You just gotta find the right people. Maybe you just haven’t found them yet.

My #1 post of 2022

I'll see takes from time to time about people getting annoyed at the "uwu soft boy goro" interpretation of the character. This is nothing new, obviously, and setting aside that this ignores on-screen evidence, this interpretation completely misses a key aspect of his character and the game.

First of all, let me clarify: I agree Goro is a selfish person who does evil, even unforgivable things as the Black Mask.

But seeing Akechi's character as irredeemable or "outright evil" misses one of the key points to his character. Akechi is meant to represent what Joker could have become if he'd been alone. Not only that, but what any of the Thieves could have become if they'd been alone and let their hatred and trauma twist them into something vengeful and empty.

If Goro is just an inherently evil person then his character loses its power. He was a child and a victim and he did not have to become the person he did. All of the Thieves were capable of becoming like Goro had circumstance been different. He no longer serves his purpose in the narrative as Joker's antithesis if you take that part of his character away.

This means both that the Thieves have an inner dark side that could have gotten out of control had circumstances been different, and that Goro is capable, or at the very least was once capable, of being a good person. Goro is capable of Joker's goodness, just as Joker is capable of Goro's evil.

So yes. Goro is an assassin who has murdered many. And he is an uwu soft boi who deserved better.

oh this is fun. i'd been avoiding any mention of it for years too because of the Discourse Hell surrounding it and at this point I'm mostly convinced that Vvienne Mdrano is a Messy Person on the Discourse Website with a cringey artistic fixation. it's all tumblr drama.

watched the show myself first, didn't find it objectionable, and then went looking for what everybody was so mad about. I found this Mary Sue article about it then cruised around the hzbin hate tags. the primary issues floating around with hzbin htel are:

all the gay characters are in hell which they say implies gay people deserve to be in hell. [dismissed based on the premise of the show, which is that heaven's rules for paradise are arbitrary and people in hell are still good/redeemable]

Angel and p much everything about them. most of these complaints are about good/bad representation (off to a great start lmao) and whether it's offensive that Angel is an addict who likes sex but is still exploited. just every ounce of sex work discourse possible transposed onto a fictional character. [from what i've seen, actual sex workers seem to like Angel Dust just fine, so again whatever imo.]

Medran0 has had a tumblr blog for the entire development history and on that blog did a few major things that really pissed people off.

[1] origin of the sexual predator stuff. she drew one of her own characters in a SFW but sexy pose with a snake. bad because the character was a minor. apparently the fan wiki says the character is 18. also drew a student/teacher relationship. [personally i just do not give a fuck about any of it.]

[2] origin of transphobia. she drew fanart of blair white after trump was elected. that whole bit is genuinely batshit. said she had a mental breakdown and convinced herself she didn't understand politics and needed to hear other perspectives. started watching blair white, thought she was pretty, and drew her. [i don't like this and think it's deeply bizarre but i also find it hilarious and existentially fitting that she describes her temporary appreciation of blair white as a serious mental breakdown and the worst time of her life. she has apologized and hasn't done anything like it since. mostly i see why her creative fixation is a show about redeeming people who are genuinely fucked in the head and do bad things in that headspace. and i also see why this did not end her career as many people on the webbed site seem to wish it did.]

[3] plagiarism stuff.

(a) she traced designs from larger projects and posted them. didn't make money off them and the things that appear in any Produced Work are pretty boilerplate animation homages. [imo this complaint is mostly the lingering effect of 15 yr olds not knowing how anything works]

(b) bought some character designs off of an artist/ex-friend and then the relationship soured. contract didn't require credit after she bought them so she removed the name of the ex-friend from her stuff. ex-friend tried to launch a lawsuit about it which was summarily dismissed and she stopped using the character design. medran0 alleges the friend was abusive. [i dont have an opinion on this and won't be forming one.]

4. pure cringe.

this is something my friend said and it's the epitome of it. most accurate comment on the show i've seen so far. it's a show that's directed STRAIGHT at those exact same depressed teens except they're adults now with different, bigger problems and still hoping it will get better. the humor and the themes are aged up, but not the emotional core or aesthetic. and i think that's fair. it hasn't gotten better for everyone and while I'm not in that place anymore and it doesn't Hit Me In My Feels, i get why it does for others.

Okay I don’t know anything about h*zbin h*tel but hasn’t it been in the works for like 8 years? Isn’t the creator like some kind of sexual predator apologist or something? Literally what’s going on?

Some thoughts

Okay so I literally never write text-posts on here (or anywhere really) I just post fanart, re-blog other people's shit and barely interact with anyone. Mostly because there's just not many things I feel like I need to give my opinion on when others have done so much better and more eloquently than I have.... that being said

And shouting out the amazing (@girlgerard) here because he's made some excellent fucking points (feel free to ignore this if you see it Mira because holy shit you deserve a fucking break)

Us white MCR fans really need to start pulling our fucking weight when it comes to calling out racism in the fandom. And that doesn't mean waiting until you see a post from a POC fan and writing something in the tags. It means actively listening and taking on board what they're saying and looking at your own behaviour and how you can do better. I can only speak for myself when I say that I have been a mcr fan since 2006/2007 but I've never been really active in the fandom so I saw a LOT of shit from back then, that I'll be honest, I just straight up didn't understand. I'm Australian and we have a slightly different, arguably more subtle breed of racism here and a lot of it mirrors the shit that was (and still is) targeted at ray. 

Most of it is not explicit "oh ew a brown person" (unless you're talking to a good majority of the 50/60+ population here- in which case HOOO BOYY STRAP IN FOR SOME FUCKED SHIT) but a lot of it is more backhanded and "jokey". This comes into play when we talk about the "princess fro-fro" shit from back in the day. Which again I'll admit, I didn't see as "all that bad" but I also didn't find it that hilarious either- I was kind of just indifferent to it (I was also like 12 years old so I just didn't GET a lot of stuff). But hey I grew up, and I realised that that shit isn't funny, it was never funny. There is no excuse to exclude ray when talking about/drawing/filming/photographing the band. When you say you "don't find him as interesting/attractive" you need to think about why that is. Because ray toro is an equal and integral part of this band that we love. He's a fucking genius and a total sweetheart and deserves just as much (if not more) hype than the others.

While I'm at it I just want to take a moment to say how fucking excited I was to see so many POC fans making content and being visible in this fandom. While I know for sure that they've always been around- being from Australia, not having any friends who were really into mcr at the time and not actively engaging with fandom (plus the fact that so many of us early 2000s internet users posted rarely photos of ourselves in fandom spaces- whereas now we have tik tok ect.) I just don't recall seeing many black and brown faces in the fandom. So I just think it's so fucking cool that these kids are here and I think that we- especially us older, white fans- should be supporting them as much as we can.

At the end of the day I'm just one person with essentially 0 following so this might not make much of a difference but I just couldn't NOT say anything... because at the end of the day it should be on us to make the fandom feel as welcoming and supportive as possible because at the end of the day MCR is home to so many of us and it should be a safe place for everyone to come to where they feel like they can be fully authentic to who they are (and shock horror! That includes valuing and respecting the voices of POC).

Anyways I don't want to take up any more space than I already have, apologies to Mira for tagging him in this coz I know he's (rightfully) sick of dealing with it but I wanted to give credit where credits due 😅

We took a short break for Nightmare Time Season 2, but we're back, the schedule is updated, and I am psyched to watchalong with you all again!!!

So I thought it would be fun to do what I call a weekly “offline watchalong” of Starkid, Shipwrecked and Tin Can Bros content. An “offline watchalong” is where a show/series is picked as the “show of the week” and everyone who wants to join in watches it at any point in the week they wish to. Then throughout the week as people watch the show, we can make posts, mini-fics (or longer fics if you’re a writing whiz!) and fanart (again for you talented folks) about that week’s show.

The shows have been split into themes, some with fun names, and some with not-so fun names because I ran out of creativity. Okay, so I just do not involve myself in discourse. It’s not worth my time. The Block button exists for a reason and I intend to use it as frequently as I need to to make my Tumblr (and any other social media) experience better for myself.

Not everyone shares my view on this and that’s obviously fine. If you like arguing with people on the internet about your very important opinions, go for it.

But maybe. Maybe you could not post this bulshit in the main tags for things. I opened up the mcc tag on here bc I wanted to see some cool fanart and learn what I missed from other streams, since I always only watch one pov and maybe switch for dodgebolt.

Instead, I found a shitton of people hating on Dream. This was not the first time. This is not Twitter and even if it was, maybe don’t take out your incredible rage on someone on social media. If you Gotta, go complain to your friends in a gc (assuming you have some) or die mad about it. Punch a Wall, kick a pillow, but don’t fill maintag with discourse about players.

Not everyone is as interested in seeing your hot takes as you are.

Also, I was watching Dream the entire time. How much of his pov did you watch before writing out that essay about him babyraging and being rude in chat? The dude was salty, obviously. He got first and then had to redo it, tried to cheese it and got fucked by his own hubris.

He was salty and kinda pissed afterwards, but he specificaly said that he does NOT want people to hate on noxcrew and that obviously, technical issues happen, but that it could've been handle differently.

Him being 'toxic' in the chat a bit after ace race and during hole in the Wall? If you watched his pov, you'd know he was making a joke of it and trying to get his head back in the game.

He himself said multiple times that he was just babyraging and that he was upset at loosing a first place, esp in a game that was played as late as ace race was and a game that has that big of a bonus for winning. It did cost him the first individual and it did cost his team first place points wise. He was not incorrect there, from what I saw.

Anyways, it was super entertaining to watch yellow and they absolutely deserved that win. Dream is not a seven times winner (5 canon wins let's gooo) just because of luck. It was great watching them pull back from fourth to second in SoT, wich is litteraly my favourite game and I was really glad it got picked. And that dodgebolt- lmaoooo, it was the most hillarious thing I've seen in a while.

All in all, this mcc was super scuffed, really fucking fun to watch and I can't wait to watch more vods tomorow, seems like it was a wild ride from every pov (specifically excited for Wilbur ace race and Tommy...just Tommy in general). Excited for the next one!

no, i don’t think for one minute these updates have fixed anything. if anything, they remind me of the sheer number of laws we have here in california where you have ten laws for one thing and they all contradict each other.

you guys do realize that the blaze thing on here is pretty much post+ but repurposed, right? (don’t remember post+? don’t blame you. but don’t try to defend blaze, though, because it’s basically the same principle but the monetary part isn’t as explicit). really, listen: you cannot make money off things like fanfic and fanart, and this just reinforces the whole idea of doing the bare minimum of making what can only barely be called “content”, i.e., it’s going to lower the bar so much that the ones who deserve to be seen like your great artists or writers or truly interesting people are continually buried by inane posts. it’s going to make everything on tumblr all about who can be the most popular rather than just enjoying yourself and expressing yourself. you guys are already so damn lazy and anti-expression that it’s annoying as is, i feel this is just going to make this worse. plus, i feel it’s a solution to a problem that can very easily be fixed: the fact we have way too many accounts on here that are just liking things instead of reblogging them (ask any artist or nsfw account on here that left in 2018, 2020, or last year if you don’t believe me; i’m pretty much just still on here because i’ll explain in a minute). it makes the whole thing tiresome and redundant and further takes the fun out of what we do here on tumblr like with every other update we’ve had in recent weeks.

as for the tags… if you’re like me and you’ve been on here a long time, you probably have gone through phases on tumblr. you’ve had crushes, you’ve made friends, you’ve dabbled and gone through life, you’ve experienced some things. you probably also developed a habit of talking to yourself in the tags. you add a main tag to it, sure, but you like to go back and see your thoughts from a time before just out of curiosity, like visiting an old journal entry.

by the way, this new post editor that we have now already allows you to edit the tags like in case make a typo. again, it’s just completely redundant. now if it was to streamline it, i probably wouldn’t have opened my mouth long enough to say anything, but i mention this as well as the above paragraph because when this came about, it messed up pretty much all of my tags. stuff i shared and posted a couple of weeks ago, i can’t find on my blog unless i go to my archive. knowing how long i’ve been on here, expect archive panic.

“tumblr is like a library”, um, no. ao3 is like a library. tumblr is like your own personal scrapbook and the person making it shouldn’t give a flying rodent’s behind if no one sees it. this is has always been my approach to my blog: it’s a reflection of me starting from when i was 21 to now at 30. and what i like isn’t going to be found anyway, because it’s not popular.

this is another thing about this current generation on here that not only completely flies over my head but annoys the ever-loving fuck out of me, aside from you guys being completely uninteresting to the point it genuinely worries me: why do you all care so much about being popular? why do you care so much about what other people think of you, like why do you put so much stock into that? at least with all us egg timers on here, we’re self-aware. like, “yeah, i’m a piece of shit, but i’m here anyway, enjoy or don’t, your choice”. you guys meanwhile are like “i need to be POPULAR and my m*t*als need to be POPULAR and FUCK EVERYONE that doesn’t have anything NICE to say about ME”. honestly, it makes me sad. like, this is going to be your legacy, man, when you could’ve been my new favorite artist or my new favorite fanfic writer. but instead you all insist on becoming ~content creators~ while simultaneously being against it…? like… has tiktok and internet culture really fucked you all up that much? because you guys are not living or doing anything for yourselves, it’s all for other people… and what’s worse is tumblr is feeding right into this.

i actually found about this one on my own via my renji blog on @nakigce and find it to be a super duper neat update tbh?? it actually reminds you "hey, you! put tags here to help sort your posts!" because organization and an overall filing system is incredibly important in the rpc. because our blogs are, in a way, a library or a museum of sorts. at least that's how i see it! here's what it looks like down below:

Sigyn Meta: Who is Sigyn?

A Norse Goddess who is known for being the wife of the Trickster, Loki, and holding the bowl to protect him from the snake’s venom. 

But besides that, Who is Sigyn? What does she mean to others? 

Journey with me as we explore who she is -- not only in the mythologies, but in other forms like the Marvel Comics, Worship and through fans.

Sigyn’s Origins (Mythology):

Sadly, not many stories that have Sigyn in them have survived till today. She is only attested in the following works: Poetic Edda & Prose Edda. 

In the poem, Lokasenna, the most famous of poem’s with the couple, it talks of how Loki has been bound by the gods with the guts of his son, Nari, and how his son, Vari, has been turned into a wolf. The Goddess Skadi fastens a venomous snake over Loki’s face, from which venom drips. Sigyn, stated as Loki’s wife, stays by his side and holds a basin under and catches the venom so it won’t drip onto her husband, but when the basin grows full, she pulls it away to empty it, during which time venom drops onto Loki, causing him to wither so violently that earthquakes occur that shake the entire earth.

In the poem, Gylfaginning, Sigyn is introduced in Chapter 31 as being married to Loki and that they have a son by the name of “Narfi or Nari”. She is then mentioned again in Chapter 50 where events are described differently than in Lokasenna; Vali, described as a son of Loki only, is changed into a wolf by the gods and rips apart his brother, “Narfi or Nari.” The guts of Nari are then used to tie Loki to three stones, after which the guts turn to iron, and Skadi places a snake above Loki. Sigyn of course catches the venom in a bowl. This process is repeated until he breaks free, setting Ragnarok into motion.

In the poem, Skáldskaparmál, Sigyn is introduced as a goddess, an Æsir, where the gods are holding a feast for their visitors and in kennings for Loki: “husband of Sigyn” and “cargo [Loki] of incantation-fetter’s [Sigyn’s] arms.” 

Sigyn’s name means “Victorious-Girlfriend” in Old Norse. 

Sigyn may appear on the Gosforth Cross and has been the subject of an amount of theory and cultural references.

She appears in the 9th century skaldic poem Haustlöng from pagan times, written by the skald Þjóðólfr of Hvinir. Due to this early connection with Loki, Sigyn has been theorized as being a goddess dating back to an older form of Germanic paganism.

Sigyn in Worship/Honor: 

I’ll be speaking on this through my personal experience of working with Sigyn while also sharing some tid bits of basic info from others on this subject. I’m someone who works with Sigyn primarily, but sometimes gets help from Loki.

For those who work with Loki, you will also find yourself working with Sigyn. And sometimes you don’t even need to work with Loki first in order to work with Sigyn (like me!)

Sigyn is usually a calming and motherly presence. Loki is protective over her, but they usually work in unison together to help. 

SMALL DEVOTIONAL ACTS TO SIGYN: 

Holding the Bowl: It is a reflective act of Sigyn holding the bowl to protect Loki from the snake’s venom. This is usually the major one. 

Helping to support mothers (especially single mothers)

Support single parents

Supporting Women’s Rights

Keep fighting through the hardships 

Wear earthy tones

Commitment in everything you do.

Help others, but remember that self-care is important too

Sigyn in the Marvel Comics:

Sadly, Sigyn is not portrayed the best in the Marvel Comics of Thor, resulting in her being missing from the comics since 1996 and practically killed off (only being referenced to in flashbacks.) 

Loki comes across her and desires to have her. However, she is already engaged to an Asgardian named Theoric, who Loki has killed and ends up taking on the disguise of in order to take Sigyn for his own. On their wedding day once the vows are said and done, Sigyn accepts her duty as his wife, granting her the title Goddess of Fidelity by Odin. 

She doesn’t have much of an agency or personality besides being Loki’s faithful wife in this.

Sigyn and her impact with Fans:

Sigyn is still not that well known among others, but there is a small community of us fans who honor her through all forms she is displayed and her relationship with Loki. This is the reason this blog and @dailylogyn​ were created: to help unite fans and spread the word of Sigyn and her relationship with Loki through appreciation and education.

Fans also show their appreciation for Sigyn through Art forms like Fanfiction, Cosplay, Fanart & More! The cool thing is that she can be interpreted however you wish, but her love for Loki and her compassion is always her strong points.

@nanigram​/Nanihoo: This artist makes wonderful fanart of her own interpretation of Sigyn and her relationship with Loki (plus their children.) You can usually find most of it on Deviantart. 

@sigynart​: This artist makes lovely art of Tom Hiddelston’s Loki, but has recently come out with their own interpretation of Sigyn and has even started to draw Loki & Sigyn together. 

@dank-art​: This artist makes a lot of interesting twists to Sigyn and Loki either if it’s a modern look, an alternate universe or a certain aesthetic of the couple. They have a lot of amazing concept designs concerning Sigyn and Loki!

I could go on and on about the subject of Sigyn. She’s an amazing, caring and loving goddess who teaches us many helpful traits we need throughout life. Despite still not being that well known, she is greatly loved by this community -- and none other than Loki. 

Hopefully someday she will make a comeback in the Marvel world and get the proper characterization and love she deserves. End of Year Review

What fandoms did you create for ?

only teen wolf works published, but my wips have some others

How many works did you make this year? Fics (posted on ao3 or tumblr or wherever), edits, gifsets, moodboards, playlists, fanart, vids, meta?

20 fics, probably a couple gifsets. did Not expect the number to be that high because it feels like I haven't been writing a lot recently, but hey! a pleasant surprise :)

Any stats you wanna tell us about?

managed to make it to 300k words this year :) which is SO weird to think about but !!!!! so glad I took the leap last year to start writing again, it's been a Blast

What inspired you this year? Any specific works or creators?

read a lot during quarantine: ocean vuong, susan sontag, anne carson, others. read shitty romance novels, watched comfort movies. met great people, made phenomenal friends, got into a relationship.

regarding specific creators!! love spiraling w/ my love @chcrrysprite and my favorite writing partner @attempted--eloquence, my girl @ttp5000, and the man who runs through full literary analysis with me and i love him for it @thecenturiestrickle. they're all completely unhinged and i love them with my whole heart

okay I wanted to do like an appreciation post at some point during the year but it just Sat there in my drafts, so we're gonna do it here. here are some works/creators that really inspired me! and recommendations, i guess, to anyone who needs them--

every time i read @eneiryu i'm in genuine and complete awe. they weave words together and worldbuild like i've never seen before. the expedition set out to chart the distance from me to you ruined my whole entire life but, like. in the best possible way.

every time i read @spikeface, i feel like i'm going feral. i read the boy who swallowed the earth last night and it felt like the world was coming apart at the seams and me along with it. no one writes scott like they do. would also Highly recommend the family of things because it makes me feel like i'm losing my mind in the best possible way.

anything by @thecenturiestrickle will make you think a lot about society and interpersonal relationships. everything he's written hurts a lot because he's mean but i like Gather Back All That Dawn Has Put Asunder for the ruminations on growth.

no one does introspection quite like @chcrrysprite. would recommend her entire bibliography, but if i had to pick one from this year, where the spirit meets the bones will make you cry like a baby

everything @attempted--eloquence writes is genuinely award worthy. i don't even know where to begin. staking claim to the mess you've made has inspired SO many of my theo thought tangents. so has Still waiting for the end of the world, leave a message when it comes. Handle With Care, obviously, is a fandom classic. and the 2 of us poured a Lot of love into in time of daffodils who know.

@honeyscapes's Inglorious Roommates is so, so good. i've been binging published romance novels in the past week and nothing has come CLOSE to the chemistry and relationship development they've managed.

Quintessentia is phenomenal with language and characterizations. everything i've read from them makes me feel well and truly breathless. would highly recommend my skin's smothering me, help me find a way to breathe.

Teen Wolves by nothoughts_headempty is written in script format and is the season 7 we deserved. genuinely 10/10, they should have replaced the scriptwriters.

@hidesourcheeks legally owns scallisaac, i think. or at least they should. Better to Die on your Feet is a scallisaac hunger game au that I would take Any Day over either canon, because Oh My God. Who Are You, Really? is an allison pov and also the best allison-centric thing i've read in my entire life? canon WISHES it could have that much character exposition. and while i'm here, i might as well recommend On the Side of Caution, their isaac-centric piece. screaming and crying and throwing up because i have Never seen something that un-romanticizes beacon hills so beautifully

not yet a corpse but still, he rots by @yikeshereiam because [screams into the void] angsty theo introspection!! also i've never read a sentence by them that hasn't knocked the breath out of me

that's all i'll give for now. there are definitely some i'm missing. might fuck around and make a rec list

What are you most proud of?

i had so much going on in the spring and somehow still managed to write a Lot?? also did my first collab (daffodils) wrote my first thiayden fic (which i've been wanting to for a Long Time!), wrote my first non-tw fic (should be posted soon :) ) and experimented with a new writing style. i feel like my growth is visible from the beginning of the year to the end, and i'm so, incredibly happy about it. also, the college au?? it started out as a christmas gift last year and then Completely took on a life of it's own.

What’s a piece you didn’t expect to make? Why?

Daffodils w/ bee :) never expected to collab, but i am Inordinately pleased with the results. it was so, so fun to work together

What are you excited to work on next year?

super excited to finish a multichapter fic for once!! i've been working on yofoe again recently :) planning to finish it this year! i would like to finish at least one of the thiaydens i started, and hopefully some of the others. keep an eye out for a regency au :) and when I finish yofoe, there's a chimera pack fic that i've been wanting to write for literal MONTHS but i've been holding myself back because i knew i didn't have the time. well. now i do :) also. ratatouille thiam, because chef theo is my weakness.
