DW Positivity Drive
Saw @jolivira doing this - a drive to share what we love about doctor who - and wanted to spread some more positivity! Heads up, it's mostly about 13's era, lol.
Thirteen. She's just - ahhhh. My absolute favourite doctor ever. I never knew how much I wanted to see a woman playing the doctor until I watched 13. I love her energy, how she moves and bounds across the screen, how she delivers her awe-speeches and her anger too (her rage against the Master is just *chef's kiss*). Her way of delivering emotion too. I also love her outfit! It's so cool. The magenta shirt is a favourite, but I love her coat the best.
Thasmin. What can I say about this, other than it's everything I ever wanted? I've shipped Yaz and 13 since their first ever episode. I fel the vibes from them, and to see it be canon on screen is a feeling that will never leave. I adore the way they interact together, especially as s12 hits and that slow burn/crush/feelings make themselves obvious. Their hints that are scattered in s12 are magical - the lingering look in Praxeus, the comparison with Bryon and the 'get off me, Yaz' bits are just more ahhhh! I love how it pans over into flux (the hug!! The way they fly the TARDIS together!!) and into the love story of the specials.
Which need their own point: the 13 specials. All of them are just such favourites. Time loops and daleks and love confessions! And then LOTSD is one of the eps I will always remember just watching with my jaw dropped in amazement. And TPOTD is, imo, one of the best finales in dw. The independance and beautiful drive Yaz has. The hand/arm touch when 13's regenerating. The bridal carry! The implict and very much there intimacy the two have, where it's almost like the viewer is intruding.
Yaz Khan. I adore Yaz. She's one of my favourite companions. Her journey through the series - how she grows and develops herself. Yaz's arc is so subtle and beautiful and amazing, and it really shines now her whole era is done. She's such a good character, and I love how she stopped taking 13's shit and confronted her, and actually got so much of 13 told to her, and got to experience her first taste of love. How she'll be able to go on in her life now knowing what she's capable of, and that she deserves everything. And I will always love the fact that she can fly the TARDIS.
And of course, Mandip and Jodie specifically, because their acting was phenomenal. Towards the thasmin scenes and in general too.
Thirteen's TARDIS. It's honestly so beautiful. I love the colouring and the vibes, and how warm and cost it could feel and how cold and alien it looked in s12. It's such an organic structure, and really looked fascinating and alien.
Dhawan's Master. He is hands down the best for me. He's amazing in acting, he brings such energy and gusto. His chaotic evil, lashing out and hoping for that strike, his gambling, has made him so good to watch. His anger is explosive, his humour is great, and the way he interacted with 13/Jodie just was so good. The Rasputin dance scene - just wow, lol.
For S11 eps: Demons of the Punjab. What a stunning, heart-wrenching ep. And The Tsuranga Conumdrum since it's probably my favourite of s11 and I love the story progression. Also the 'come to daddy. I mean mummy' line in Ghost Monument.
Chibnall. I love how his era went (It's, if you can't tell, my favourite). The ideas he used, his timeless child arc and how it relates to adoption and abuse. The fact he gave us canon thasmin. How he brought in the 'terrible/imperial time lords' again, with the timeless child. The existence of Karvanista. How he ended his era in a perfect way, that wasn't devestating or grimdark but fit the natural tradegy every doctor must face while also giving Yaz a whole life to explore from now on - how every 13 companion got to live and go home too.
Martha Jones. She was my first favourite companion and I adore her personality and her sense of self and drive. And that leather jacket! (Smith and Jones will always be a favourite ep for me too, because of how cool Martha is in it).
The Runaway Bride and Partners in Crime. They're absolutely hilarious eps I love coming back to.
Lastly, I love the doctor themselves. How they are a character who is so full of love and will gladly sacrifice themselves to save their chosen home and people. They have flaws, but at their core all they want to do is help and be loved and love.
All I can think of right now - if you've reached the end, go and make your own post to keep sharing the positivity! <3

To Have Your Cake (And Eat It Too)
Dhawan!master x Reader
Summary: The Master has gotten himself tied up. On your birthday of all days. Stuck in a straightjacket and with no idea how long its going to last, you decide to treat your Time lord with a share of your sweet and sinful birthday desires
Notes: for the second year in a row, this is the official how masterful birthday fic™ for her absolutely beloved @plethora-of-imagines . happy birthday, my love! I hope through all the chaos of losing the first draft, flaky internet connections, and a crippling desire for this fic to work out, you hopefully enjoy your birthday gift! 🥳❤💫
this fic was partly inspired by this piece of artwork by @/thoscheii
The Master tugged angrily on his arms, for the fifth time that minute. He grit his teeth together, yanking his shoulders downwards.
It was a fruitless effort.
The straight jacket still refused to budge.
“I’ve tried everything, Master. You really are stuck in there until those time locks fall off.”
He tugged once more, before sighing and sinking back into his chair.
“Great. Absolutely magnificent.”
It was a stupid idea. You’d told him as such. The planet of the bachelors, solo men that thrived on their isolation from women. Females within the species simply didn't exist. The Master had seemingly decided the best idea in the universe, something he’d say about every new plan, would be to try and blend in in order to steal some exciting world destroying weapons (and obviously refuse to tell you about the details). It would be an absolute piece of cake, he’d decreed as soon as he’d planned it- sneak in, steal the plans, sneak out. It would only take fifteen minutes or so. That was 7 hours ago.
However, in his pride and… underestimation of the species’ intelligence, he’d made a single, glaring oversight.
He hadn't taken the bloody wedding ring off of his finger.
“Have you really tried everything?”
You turned from your position leant against the console, sending him an offended expression. The Tardis hummed and whirred in your defence.
“Yes! Every single idea you gave me!”
“Are you sure?”
You widened your eyes in an expression that hopefully conveyed to him it wouldn't be wise to ask again. The Tardis beeped rapidly, hoping to dissolve the tension. Still leaning against the console you folded your arms, looking down at your husband.
“Yes, Master. I promise. I really think you’re just gonna have to wait this one out.”
The Master let out a loud and rather obnoxious groan. He let his head fall back, scrunching up his face in a look of pure annoyance. But even that expression of disappointment, and most likely rage, couldn't be fully executed. The thick red collar that sat around his neck propped up his head like a neck brace.
To his credit, taking off his ring wasn't something he had to do often. Since the day he’d put it on for the first time it never seemingly came off. That was part of his overt sentimentality that you secretly adored. Plus, it hadn’t caused any problems for the pair of you. The ring, a golden band engraved with endless circular Gallifreyan, sat snugly on his finger and often shone, even in low light. It acted as a symbol, a sign to other creatures great and small that he was indeed a taken Time Lord. It matched your own, your wedding band sharing the same design that comfortably nested itself upon your own hand. Of course, yours had to share a finger with the engagement ring- a white point star, shrunken perfectly to sit and shimmer in a band forged from the oldest nugget of gold in the universe.
You looked down at the ring, smiling fondly at the glimmering star that sat on your finger. It shifted and refracted at even the smallest of movements, even in the low light of the Tardis. From there you looked up to see the Master still trying to flop back his head, grumbling and muttering something most likely threatening to himself. You tilted your head, watching him struggle, before carefully making your way over to sit yourself down in his lap. Taking his face in your hands you carefully brushed over his cheeks with your thumbs, the anger and rage that simmered in his expression slowly melting away as he stared up at you with a rare, rather defeated expression.
It wasn't often that the Master was the one in need of saving. At least in the typical, damsel in distress sort of way. It was no secret that the Master had a history of getting in over his head, especially when it came to the Doctor and their centuries long rivalry- from the Autons all the way to the Kasaavin, the Master would sometimes need that extra helping hand. But with you, he was always so proudly in command. The Master of the situation, one could say. With you he would stride in, proudly taking control over every situation: if you were in danger he’d burst in burning with unstoppable rage, guns blazing- more likely TCE blazing, and would happily destroy anything and anyone that was in the path between you and him. Only now it was him that required the whole rescuing thing.
Seeing him like this, bound in a jacket with timed locks that simply refused to budge, almost made him look humbled. But of course he wouldn't let something so small destroy his persistent (And slightly enjoyable) egomania.
“It suits you, y’know.”
The Master rolled his eyes.
“Is that your way of making me feel better?”
“I’m serious. I never thought I'd say it, but you suit a collar and straight jacket.”
The Master bit back a laugh, sending you an incredulous expression.
“Really? Is that so? Because I feel like a knock off Houdini. Even I don't deserve that.”
You pouted dramatically, sticking out your bottom lip. Your hand reached up to ruffle his already messy hair, earning an even angrier scowl.
“You’re enjoying yourself far too much. Just you wait until I get out of here.”
“Aw, is the big bad Master angry he's got his collar on and matches his wife?”
The Master gave a reluctant laugh, narrowing his eyes like a cat. You tickled under his chin with your fingers, enjoying watching him attempt to squirm away. You could tell he was trying so hard to seem offended, but the way he subtly titled his head to grant you more access to the strip of skin under his chin made you believe otherwise.
It was also undeniable that the thick red collar that sat around his neck matched your own. It seemed, to the Master, that his collaring of you was a pre marriage arrangement. Your own was a rich, purple leather that curved around your throat, lined with golden velvet that sat flush against your skin. Golden hardware, buckles and rings decorated the piece, making the thing look incredibly lavish and expensive- and judging by the Masters taste, it probably was.
“Don't patronise me, love.”
The Master was scowling again. It looked rather cute. You placed a quick peck to the top of his forehead, watching him scowl in return.
“I can't help it Master, you look like a kicked puppy. All grumpy and angry. You know Its your own fault you got into this mess.”
The Master opened his mouth, ready to argue to the ends of the earth as to how he wasn't responsible for the consequences of his own actions. This argument was neither new, nor something you wanted to get into again.
Suddenly, you had a thought. It was a naughty thought, rather nefarious.
Though not deadly, the thought was slightly dangerous. If only for what the Master might do when he finally got free. Yes, this was an ample opportunity for you to follow through, and use the new situation to your advantage. He’d be so proud, you thought, if it wasn't him in said situation.
You pushed your finger against the Master's lips, catching the Time Lord slightly off guard. Once again, his eyes narrowed.
“Move. Your. Finger.”
“I’m pretty sure this is the universal symbol of shut up and listen, Master.”
The Time Lord pressed his lips into a thin line, glaring absolute daggers in your direction. Slowly you pulled your finger away from his lips, moving your face so close your noses almost touched.
“Fine, I'm listening.”
“Of all the days, Master. You had to choose today. Lucky for you, the Tardis thinks there's not much time left on those time locks. Lucky for me, it gives me just enough time to have some fun with you.”
If the Master's eyes were narrow before, now they were creeping wide. You could see the calculations his brain was performing behind his eyes, all the thoughts and possibilities swirling around in his head like brain soup. Rarely was the Master ever in a situation where somebody intended to have fun with HIM. Usually it was the other way around. This was a new sensation, a feeling of which the Master in all his years of existence had yet to fully comprehend.
Was this… what nervousness felt like?
It wasn't long until he was about to find out.
In all his time, cataloguing his thoughts and trying to figure out what you could possibly mean, the Master failed to notice you slipping from his lap and heading off towards the kitchen. With a skip in your step, you quickly made your way towards the piece of delicious, freshly baked cake that sat under the crystal glass dome on the counter top- grabbing a fork on your journey back as you circled, returning to the door from which you came.
Quickly scarpering back to the console room, you could see the Master still thinking, his eyebrows furrowed as he tugged at the jacket once more. He really did look like a curious cat, sneering at the problem at hand while also being absolutely fascinated. You carefully made your way towards the Time Lord, letting out a small cough to break him from his focus. Suddenly, his head snapped up towards you, his mess of hair flying backwards as he looked from your smug expression to the plate in your hand, before turning back to your face with a knowing look.
The large triangle of birthday cake, decorated in thick frosting and rainbow sprinkles, sat upon the fine china plate.
“What are you up to now?”
“You decided to get yourself tied up on my birthday. You’re going to enjoy this slice of cake with me even if I have to feed you it by hand. Now open.”
The Master watched intently as you held the fork to his lips, sending you an unimpressed expression.
“There's nothing on it.” he deadpanned.
“I know that,” you sighed. “Hold it for me while I get myself comfortable.”
The Master rolled his eyes, before opening his lips and taking the fork between his teeth. He looked like those flamenco dancers that would brandish a rose in their mouth while dancing, only slightly less flamboyant. Though the Master definitely was no stranger to flamboyance, if his past regenerations and even more recent plans were anything to go off.
“What on earth are you planning?” he mumbled through gritted teeth, watching you precariously place the plate upon his thigh. His eyes watched with absolute wonder as he saw what you were doing.
Carefully, in front of the Time Lord, you began to tug at the hem of your underwear from beneath the already rather short dressing gown- the pile of clothes you’d rescued him in already sat in a pile in the corner of the room. You slowly shimmied your panties down your legs, his eyes never leaving your body as you purposely drew out your movements. You could tell the Master was fascinated, the way his chest had begun to rise and fall slightly faster than usual. Methodically you teased him, slipping the underwear from your legs and throwing them on to the pile. Your hands then slowly wandered to the Master's knees, the Time Lord taking in a deep breath as you fiddled with the zipper of his trousers, pulling it down to expose his underwear. You took hold of the plate on his thigh before it toppled, using your other hand to pull down the waistband of the Masters underwear, carefully freeing the Masters hardening cock. You could hear him let out a low, guttural groan behind the fork.
Without breaking his gaze you straddled over his thighs, pushing your body against his own as you sank yourself down to sit on his now firm cock. You gasped softly as you felt him inside you, the Masters left eye practically twitching as he bit down on the fork in his mouth. You rocked backwards and forwards a couple times, settling yourself down in his lap, before you brought the plate to sit between your chest and his own. Soon after, you finally reached to pull the fork from between his teeth. The Master was staring at you, wordlessly, lightly panting for breath as you smiled oh so innocently.
“There,” you teased. “Much comfier.”
The Master was working his way towards catching his breath.
“You know… if you were anybody else… I'd kill you for this.”
You laughed lightly, measuring out the size of the first bite with the prongs of the fork.
“Good. Because if anybody else did this to you, I'd kill them as well. You’re my husband after all.”
“You’re getting far too cheeky, love. I think you need reminding who's in charge here.”
You leant forwards in the Masters lap, purposely shifting your hips. You couldn't help but smile at the involuntary gasp he gave.
“What are you going to do, Master? Spank me? With what hands?”
The Master met your gaze, matching your expression. Your faces were mere inches away from each others, your eyes daring each other to make the next move.
“You’re in so much trouble after this.”
“You can't punish the birthday girl, Master. That's just plain old rude.”
The Master chuckled fondly.
“Forgive me for misplacing my manners, dearest. I must’ve left them with my hands.”
“Apology accepted.”
You nipped at the end of his nose with your teeth, before giggling cheekily and leaning in for a kiss. The Master, in all his superiority and domination, couldn't help but kiss back. He always failed to stay fully angry at you. Your noses brushed together as you stole a kiss from each other's mouths, the pair of you dissolving into quiet laughter once you parted.
“Let me have this moment, Master. Please.”
The Master pondered for a moment, tilting his head dramatically to the side and watching your hopeful expression blossom onto your face. He huffed out a sigh, looking up at you with another defeated expression. Only this one was full of genuine fondness.
“Fine.” he sighed finally. “Because it's your birthday.”
Your smile was absolutely beaming. You pulled the end chunk of cake onto the fork, holding it up to the Masters mouth. The frosting was almost dripping back onto the plate from the fluffy, bite sized piece. He parted his lips, waiting for you to place the cake into his mouth.
“Say please, Master.”
“Don't push it, Y/n.”
You simply shrugged in return, before placing the cake into the Master's mouth. As he chewed you gently began to circle your hips, lightly moving atop his cock, generating a small amount of friction. The Master gave a quiet moan, letting his eyes flutter shut as the cake melted on his tongue. He licked at his lips, catching the small trail of frosting and sprinkles that had remained on his lips.
“How is it?” you purred softly.
The Master smacked his lips together, before giving a lazy smile.
“I’m enjoying myself more than I anticipated.”
“Poor Master, did you think I was going to torture you?”
The Master chuckled as you offered him another piece of cake, parting his lips and watching you intently as you teasingly pulled the fork slowly from his mouth. You continued to twist and circle your hips, the Master's eyes watching you almost hypnotically. You could feel a hot flush begin to creep up your face, the apples of your cheeks blushing a sweet red as your shoulders began to relax. The Master smirked, watching you break off another chunk of the sprinkle covered cake. Only this time you placed it into your own mouth.
You could see why the Master reacted so positively. The flavours swirled and collided in your mouth, your taste buds exploding with sensory pleasure. Your hips swivelled and rocked, much like clockwork, as you rolled your head over your shoulders and gave a deep moan of pleasure.
“Shit, that's a good cake.” you admitted, fluttering open your eyes. The Master was licking his lips, hands lightly tugging on the straightjacket as you licked the frosting from your teeth.
“It's almost as nice as our first wedding cake.”
“Go on, take another bite.”
Weakly, you nodded, breaking off another chunk with the fork and placing it on your tongue. The ‘yes Master’ you gave was almost a whisper.
You did the same for your husband, feeding him another chunk of the cake while continuously building a rhythm of motion atop his cock. The Master was groaning, harder than before, a light sweat beginning to form on his brow. He couldn't help but notice how much closer you’d pressed yourself to his torso, the cake almost sliding from the plate that was now practically diagonal against your chest.
“Y’know, it's not the first time I've worn something like this.” the Master admitted between mouthfuls.
“Seriously?” your voice was almost lost behind a moan.
“White straightjacket, red collar, I think they- fuck- chose something from my personal history to cage me in.”
The Master was now beginning to thrust his hips up against yours, jostling your rhythm and causing you to give a shocked gasp of pleasure. The plate almost fell from your chest, barely being caught by your spare hand and the edge of the fork.
“Master, yes-”
You bit your bottom lip to suppress the guttural moan you wanted to give. The sweetness of the cake mixed with the burning deep in your belly was causing your senses to go into overdrive. The Master was methodical, thrusting up as best he could with the top of his body tied in place. His movements were sending chills shooting up your spine, knowing exactly how to make you gasp for breath and beg for more. He always knew exactly what you desired, his body and mind instinctively understanding every primal desire you had. Maybe you were just obvious. Or perhaps he was more sentimental than he let on.
Soon the once imposing slice of cake was nothing more than a single section. Crumbs and sprinkles poked from the corners of your mouth and onto your lips, the Master's teeth gnashing upwards in a bid to lick them away. Your speed and ferocity had increased to the point where you needed to stabilize yourself atop the Masters thrusting cock. Both of you had begun to sweat. Something needed to give.
“Master, I need, fuck-”
“I swear to god, let me taste you.”
The Master was panting like an animal.
“The plate-”
“Fuck the plate. I’ll buy you as many as you want. Come here, do as you’re told.”
You gave an inhumane snarl as the fork clattered to the floor, your fingers grasping hold of the last square of cake. Frosting oozed down your fingers as you relented your grip on the plate, the small black plate crashing down onto the hard wood and shattering into thousands of shards. The Master opened wide as you bucked your hips, your fingers pushing the cake firmly against his mouth. Sprinkles and crumbs smeared over the Masters lips as you abandoned all inhibition, your own mouth diving in to follow as your lips crashed together in an animalistic kiss. Teeth and tongues slashed and battled for control as the sweet concoction oozed down your throats, the taste of the frosting melting into the taste of each others mouths.
Crumbs and sticky decoration stained the clean white straightjacket as your fingers clasped hold of the Masters shoulders, your forehead pushing against his as he snarled into the kiss. Your hips thrusted furiously against his own, the pair of you rising and falling against the back of the chair as you begged for friction and every sensation you were willing to share. Your fingers fisted into the back of the Master's hair, the other hand stroking down his back and running over the intricate set of time locks that connected the jacket together in an intricate lattice of latches. You tugged on them as you went, growing deeper into the kiss as you bounced yourself up and down in the Masters lap.
You could feel yourself getting close to the precipice of satisfaction, the Master's teeth nipping at your bottom lip as his tongue licked over the mess. Your noses pushed together as you hissed in delight, your body clamouring for release as you whined pathetically in his ear.
“Master, so close” you begged, tugging on his earlobe with your teeth.
The Master snapped his teeth together, pushing his forehead against his own.
“Don't you dare cum” he barked, groaning as you licked down the side of his face.
“Please, please I can't-”
“Listen to your Master” he growled in your ear. As if that would do anything but make it worse.
The Master continued to thrust and groan, his face flush almost as red as his collar as he edged you closer and closer to release. You struggled to even control your mouth, groans and cries of pleasure escaping your throat as you completely fell apart in the Masters lap. Everything was building up inside of you, your body absolutely ready to feel the warm wave of release course through your very being. All you were waiting on was the Masters word.
And then it finally arrived.
“Cum”
You felt your whole body ricochet from the sudden release of pressure. Your scream was painfully desperate as you felt yourself fold into nothingness in the Masters lap. You gave in completely, the warmth spreading through your entire body as you climaxed hard and fast upon the Masters still hard cock. Tears were mixing with the streaming sweat as you slumped forward against the Master's chest, the Time Lord chuckling as your exhausted eyes fluttered shut on impact. You were about to sleepily flirt, much like usual, sweetening the already malleable Master with your flattering words and praises, when a loud bang sent your eyes flying wide open.
One by one, the time locks that ran up the Masters spine unclasped and plummeted down to the floor, collecting in a heap as they slid through the back of the chair. You picked your head up to look at the Master, sweat dripping from his brow and sprinkles caught in his stubble, watching as the Time Lords face slowly began to spread into a dangerous grin. You felt a chill go down your spine as he slowly began to unfold his arms, forcing you to sit up in his lap, supporting yourself by pushing down on his thighs.
“Well then”
The Master purred, pulling his arms free from their clasps. His fingers wriggled within the triangle shaped tip of the sleeve, his hands reaching up to slickly unclasp the thick red collar from around his neck. It fell to the floor, joining the locks, fork, and what was left of the plate. He looked down at you with a typical, Masterful, Cheshire cat grin.
“Would you look at that?”
Instinctively you gulped, looking up at the Master as he lifted your chin with his cloth covered fingers.
“Now I don't know about you, love, but I've noticed you’ve been getting a little bit too cheeky for my liking.”
At best, you sent him a weak smile. You knew what was about to happen.
“And I have hands now. Lucky, lucky you.”
“I'm guessing you’re going to punish me now, aren't you Master?”
The Master shushed you, tutting as he shook his head. He still clasped your chin in his hand.
“You said it yourself, dear. I can't punish the birthday girl. But I can encourage her to help me get the release I so lovingly provided for her. It's only fair, after all. If there happens to be a lesson or two learned in the process? Call that an added bonus.”
You chuckled weakly as the Master guided you to stand, supporting your still twitching hips as you sent him a wry smile.
“Y’know Master, there's a phrase we have on earth. You can't have your cake and eat it too.”
The Master tilted his head, his mouth making a small ‘o’ shape as he crooked an eyebrow. It soon melted away into a gentle smile, his fingers tucking a stray strand of hair behind your ear.
“Oh, my love.” he grinned, a chuckle building in his throat as he pecked the top of your forehead.
“I just did.”
All of a sudden you felt yourself being lifted into the air, the impact of the Masters shoulder against your stomach knocking the wind out of your system. He barked out a proud laugh as he raised a hand to spank your already reddened ass, his teeth nipping at the soft flesh of your hip as you gave a surprised yelp.
“Happy birthday, Y/N!” he cried, laughing as he carried you towards the bedroom, where god knows what painful pleasure awaited you.
“I hope the birthday girl has room for seconds!”

Heya, I absolutely love your writing! Could I request a 13th doctor x reader with prompts #12 and #25 (from list 5) if that's possible please?
Warnings for extreme angst, blood mention, burn mention. yeah, I went all out on this one. SPOILERS FOR S12
There was a moment, on Gallifrey, with the smoke of your planet burning through your lungs, that you were sure the Doctor wouldn’t go through with it. Your companions sent away, the cybermasters stationary, and the three remaining time lords silent. But the moment did not last long.
The Master, ever so eager to drag the Doctor down to his depths, commanded her to do it; activate the death particle and wipe out what remained of the time lords, of their shared history. You, too, would disappear with it all. But you were willing to go, if it meant being with the Doctor in such a time. Before the Doctor could go through with it, though, another figure entered. Ko Sharmus, offering to do it for her. Again, you were sure she wouldn’t do it- let someone else take on such a burden for her. Part of you wished she wouldn’t. This was something that, if done, had to be done by her or you- anyone who actually had a stake in the proceedings. Not a bystander, someone who should’ve listened to instructions and been safe.
Yet, she did. Pulling away from the Master, she ran, like she always did. Hand in hers you followed, despite reluctance, as you always had and always would. Reuniting with the TARDIS was both extremely relieving and questionable. It felt as though you were returning home, to safety and beyond. Simultaneously, though, it felt like you were leaving far too much behind and carrying everything with you all at once.
The Doctor and you did not speak for several moments, perhaps both acknowledging the conflicting concoction of emotion that sealed your lips shut. She floated over the console, poking and prodding, to mimic a reality in which she actually knew where she was going next. Neither of you knew, and you certainly weren’t expecting what would happen in the next following moments.
When the Judoon arrived, somehow making their way onto the TARDIS, your first instinct was to step in front of the Doctor. Why you felt like she needed to be protected from them, you had no idea. The Judoon didn’t appreciate this defensive movement. The one on the far right held up a small device, pointing it at you. Before you could properly analyze it and make the necessary precautions, the end of it flashed, and there was no light after that.
When you woke up, the Doctor was gone. Furious and confused, you worked with the TARDIS controls in a desperate attempt to get a trail on where the judoon had taken her. Unfortunately, it seemed as though their device had knocked you unconscious for quite a while. It had been too much time, and they had travelled too much distance, to properly get any sort of helpful reading. She was just… gone.
There was only one option remaining to contact her. Neither of you had used it much, being around humans with little to no psychic capabilities. But ever since your recent run in with the Master, you’d utilized it multiple times. You could feel that your skills were sharper and felt that they might be tuned in enough to contact the Doctor wherever she may be. Finding your shared room was the first step. Having a special space that connected the two of you would help your focus. Curled up in bed, head resting against her pillow, you imagined seeing her again. Her voice, her laugh, her being. After a few moments past, you whispered “Contact”
Despite the series of events that led you up to this moment, you weren’t quite prepared for the chaos that you found. Opening your eyes, you found yourself standing in a room made of rock. You were surprised that you’d managed to connect with anyone, given that you hadn’t even heard a contact in response. If it was the Doctor you connected with, she was in bad enough shape to let you in so easily.
Sure enough, you turned to find your timelord banging her fists against the walls. Wincing, you watched her fists make contact with the solid rock over, and over, and over, blood staining the surface.
“Stop!” you yelped, running over to her. Your hands passed through her, and you remembered that you were not actually there to help her. The sensation, though, was enough to make her jump back and swivel on her feet. Meeting her eyes, another piece of you shattered. Her own gaze was wild, afraid, her muscles tensed.
“Y/n!” She ran closer to you, trying to get a proper grip on you. “Are you actually here, or just an image? Because I’m really tired of asking and really tired of trying to get out of here.”
“W-well,” You stammered, not sure how to react to her frenzied state. “I mean, I am an image, but-”
The Doctor made a sound that was almost akin to a growl, returning to pounding against the walls. “Seriously?!”
“But I’m an actual image, Doctor!” You shouted. “I’m here, in your head, from the TARDIS” She leaned against the rock, shoulders shaking. Concerned, you stepped forward, wrapping your arms around her as if you could actually do so. Looking closer, you saw that she was laughing, with a few tears to join the cynical sound. “I’m being honest, Doctor. Make proper contact with me, and you’ll see.”
“I don’t think I can do that,” She said shakily. “I can’t focus on so much at once!”
“Okay, well, we just need to focus, right? Please, Doctor, I really need to find out where you are and I think we can do that if we can make a proper connection”
“Focus on what?” She mumbled, sliding to the floor. Using the wall as her support she curled up, facing away from you. “What could I possibly want to focus on right now?”
“You could focus on me,” You offered quietly, trying to put more effort into your hand stroking her hair, so she could feel it more realistically. All it seemed to do was make her shake harder, retreating into herself. It was almost as if she was trying to get away from you. Throat tight, you whispered: “Doctor?”
“I saw how disappointed you were,” She admitted, shrugging away from your hand and the psychic comfort it brought. There was a small gasp before she continued, “On Gallifrey, you were..”
“No, no-” You assured her, but even you weren’t sure of the validity of your words.
“Please don’t lie to me now,” She cut you off. “I really don’t think I can take more lies”
Shrinking back in guilty, you whispered: “I’m sorry”
“ All of the lies, and loss and…” Her words were becoming more jumbled and rushed. “I feel sick…so anxious and sick and like my heart is trying to beat its way out of my chest and I can’t think about everything I just have to get out of here-”
“Hey,” You cut in, trying to pull her to face you. It didn’t work, so you moved to where she could see you. Where she had to look at you, focus on you, hear you. “Stop, okay, just stop for a moment.”
“You really think I could?” The Doctor bit back, standing and walking to the window. “I can’t stop because I’m here now and I need to leave now.”
“Well you’re not leaving like this,” You scolded. She turned to you with a fire in her eyes and you knew that you had to find some way to calm her down before it burned through her entirely.
“Well that’s helpful,” She said sarcastically. Reaching for the bars on the window she quickly pulled back, yelping in pain. You ran to her side, gasping as you saw the burn marks start to appear on her palms. The connection became more strong in your desperation to ease her pain. When you grabbed her hands, it felt as if you were right there with her.
“Okay, we need to sit and focus for a moment.” The Doctor, exhausted from her attempts to leave and the pain flowing through her, nodded. You both sunk to the floor once again, your arms wrapped around her.
“I’m just so tired,” She whimpered. “But I can’t be, can I?”
“Yes, you can, Doctor. You’re allowed rest, reprieve. Especially after what’s happened.” She moved to rest her head against your chest but passed through you, head hitting the wall with a small thunk. She groaned and you smiled.
“I don’t think you’re going to be able to do much to get out of here like this,” You told her. “But that doesn’t mean you never will. It just means we need to tackle some other things first.”
“Yeah, maybe,” She returned, accepting defeat.
“You have to talk to me, Doctor.” and, much to your satisfaction she did. For a while, she went in circles, and you redirected her back. Soon enough, she came to the biggest peak standing in her way.
“I worked so hard to bring Gallifrey back. They mistreated me, still, but I still brought them back. And I always imagined, someday, that I could go back too. Just for a little while, and it would be good. And maybe Mi- The Master would be there, changed. Better. All these plans, ideals. Now they’re gone. Now it’s over…I don’t really know what to do.”
The confession seemed to be somewhat of a relief. She was no longer turned away from you, rather staring at the rock wall ahead of her emptily.
“You do your best to move on. We all do. Because it’s all that we can do.”
“I’ve moved on so many times, Y/n. Sometimes I don’t even think I know where I am now.”
“But you’ll find that place, eventually.” You countered hopefully. “It might take a while, but every time you’ve had to move on, it’s been to a new place, a certain place. What makes you think it’ll be different this time?”
The Doctor didn’t respond initially, lost in thought. “Not sure.”
“That’s because there isn’t anything different this time. “ Your head poked upward, towards the door to her cell. In the distance, you could hear noises, footsteps, words. People were coming. Guards perhaps? But surely you had no reason to worry. You weren’t actually there.
“Psychic activity detected” A low Judoon voice grumbled. Your eyes widened. How could they possibly know? Most importantly: what were they going to do about it?
“Activating Psychic Barrier” Another voice broke through. The Doctor turned to you, just as alarmed. You only had a few moments remaining. “Listen, Doctor, it’s no different this time, okay? You can move on. You deserve to move on and you have to. I’m- listen, I’m going to find the others, okay? And then we’re going to find-”
Before you could finish, you found yourself leaping off of the Doctors pillow. Suddenly, your mind was back in your body. Alone in the TARDIS.
“Contact,” You said into thin air. But there was no sensation, no feeling. Like you’d never reached out at all, you were suddenly cut off from the Doctor entirely.

(New) Doctor Who hasn’t been good since S4.
(Please note: This post is really only for people who already agree with me, rather than people who disagree with me, because I don’t want to change anyone’s opinions, nor do I want to ruin DW for anyone. So if you disagree with me, you have no obligation to read any further, and I hope you have a nice day). ~ Okay, look...
First of all: I love Matt Smith. I think he was a fantastic Doctor. He was an absolute sweetheart, and a wonderful actor.
I also loved Clara Oswald as a companion. And all in all, I enjoyed post-s4 of NewWho, with a number of episodes that stood out to me (mainly written by Neil Gaiman... please can we make him a permanent author) and genuinely didn’t dislike it.
However, I really believe that the Steven Moffat era (s5 and onwards) and especially the Chris Chibnall era (s11 and onwards), couldn’t live up to the Russel T Davis era (s1-4).
For starters, I found the episodes post s4 really difficult to get invested into. I feel like the writers tried too hard to make it dramatic, and in turn simply made it complicated to follow along and frankly, a little boring. Too many characters had an unnecessary amount of importance placed on them, and too many episodes contained more than one plot point (again, as an attempt to make it dramatic, and therefore making it too complicated).
I also disliked the complete disregard for anything that happened pre-s5. I understand the timeline to an extent, for example, by the time the Doctor met Amy it had technically been about a hundred years since he’d last seen Rose give or take (though it had literally only been a few days since he’d last seen Donna and she wasn’t mentioned at all). This may just be my inability to really cope with major change, but then, a lot of people are like me, so disregarding everything just makes the show inaccessible to a number of people. I was screaming at the TV screen half the time wanting the Doctor to mention Rose, or Martha, or Donna, or Jack, but they hardly got a look in. Even in The Day of the Doctor, the appearance of “Rose” was frankly disappointing.
And this is just talking about s5 and onwards. I haven’t yet mentioned how good pre-s4 was. I’m not saying every episode was a masterpiece, but there were an incredible amount of well-thought out and interesting storylines. The entire Bad Wolf storyline and how it threaded through all four seasons even after Rose had gone was, and still is, my favourite thing ever. The Daleks and the Cybemen were actually threatening (as opposed to just nuisances like they were post-s5, which I suppose by that time they were, but it’s funny how some characters were described as the most dangerous and evil characters when tbh they really weren’t, but the Daleks and the Cybermen hardly ever were. I’d also like to point out that the Cybermen hadn’t actually been seen again by the Doctor since the battle at Canary Wharf (although I may be wrong on this, someone please correct me), and when Eleven did see them again, he acted more as if they were just an inconvenience, rather than the reason he lost one of his companions).
And don’t even get me started on the companions of pre-s5. Yes I love Clara, but that’s really about it. I never got invested in Amy, despite the show making her out to be god incarnated and the most important person in the Doctor’s life. I actually got more invested in Rory tbh. I’m not saying I didn’t like Amy, I just didn’t really see the big deal. Adding this to the fact that my favourite companions (all of which are in pre-s5) were never mentioned made me genuinely angry at Amy. It wasn’t her fault, but she had an air of smugness around her, as if she knew everything there is to know about the Doctor, but out of all of the companions she actually doesn’t know that much at all. She barely even knows that the Doctor can regenerate.
The companions in s1-4 were on a different level. Rose Tyler is my beloved, who absorbed the time vortex and became Bad Wolf. Martha Jones was the most badass motherf*cker who literally became a walking legend throughout the entire world as she travelled for a year on her own to defeat the Master- which she did, single f*cking handedly. Donna Noble was Catherine Tate. (And also she was the most hilarious, wonderful won’t-take-shit-from-a-spaceman icon who literally became a Time Lord. AND JACK MOTHERFUCKING HARKNESS THE GUY I LITERALLY NAMED MYSELF AFTER THE IMMORTAL OMNISEXUAL ALIEN JOHN FUCKING BARROWMAN LGBTQ+ ICON ALL THE WAY FROM 2005 CANNOT BE COMPARED IN LOVE WITH THE DOCTOR FLIRTS WITH EVERYONE SMOOTH SON OF A BITCH WITH A SMILE THAT CAN KILL EVEN MY LESBIAN ARSE.
Amy was just... sort of nothing? I don’t want to criticise too much because I know she’s the favourite companion of a lot of people, and I don’t want to ruin her for them. I don’t think she’s a bad companion. A lot of my anger towards her is more to do with me rather than to do with her. I just feel that she was placed on a pedestal and treated way more than her predecessors for no real reason.
She was “The girl who waited”. She was an eight year old who sat outiside for a night waiting for the Doctor. It’s sweet and all, but why is that literally her only personality trait?
There’s probably more I can add, but I’ve gone on long enough. And I must reiterate this is only personal opinion. I understand the title is a bit too blunt, one of those “if you don’t agree with me you’re an idiot” sort of posts, but it isn’t. This is just how I feel, and I encourage you to disagree with me, because I don’t want to ruin anything for anyone. Believe me, lots of things have been ruined for me by someone giving a negative opinion about it (though I’m not calling those people out or anything) because I’ve felt obliged to agree, or I’ve felt that my opinion is wrong. So I’m not trying to do that, I’m really just writing this for the people who already agree, rather than the people who disagree, because I’m not here to change anyone’s opinion.
Amy’s great. Matt Smith is fantastic. S5 and onwards has some enjoyable storylines. Neil Gaiman is a fantastic writer, so is Russel T Davis. Chris Chibnall isn’t but I think we can all agree with that. Martha is underrated as shit. Catherine Tate is queen of my life (I met her once, she gave up her seat for me on the Tube when I was a kid. Didn’t know who she was back then but my mother was very excited). Rose Tyler can marry me. Jack Harkness is the only reason I’m happy. And Clara is a sweetheart who needs constant protection.
Thank you for coming to be TEDTalk.

Atmospheric/10th Doctor
Would just like to start off with a note! I will be creating a master list at some point because I love writing these. Also! It is canon that the Doctor’s real name is “Theta” and I thought I could write a really cute fic between the reader and 10 about that. AHHHH excited! See ya around :)
___________________________________
It was one of the more relaxing days on the TARDIS, which, in a companion’s terms, meant that there was about 75% less murder and aliens. This still meant that we took part in a long day of running from foreign species, but when you’re traveling with the Doctor, you just have to go with whatever his dramatic little time-lord self throws at you. As usual, the alien in question was tinkering with the console as my legs dangled into the abyss outside the TARDIS doors. He chose a nice spot for the vehicle to drift in space, somewhere away from well-known planets and some centuries before Earth was born. The TARDIS extended her signature atmosphere bubble to keep all the oxygen inside, however it was quite a bit tighter than usual, and made the hems of my trousers wave about slowly, in a flag-like manner. She must be feeling a bit cheeky today, which would explain why she didn’t take us to the correct coordinates earlier.
Unlike the usual clatter of wrenches thrown about, (because let’s be honest, the Doctor can be very messy), the only thing heard was the soft padding of his footsteps as he examined his beloved spacecraft. He looked peaceful, as calm as I’ve seen him in a while, which was a rarity with his general eccentricity. He quirked one of corner of his mouth upward, humming as he glanced upon the time rotor. Taking a second to ruffle his hair, thus spiking it further, he finally set his deep, brown honey eyes on me.
Is it obvious that I like him, more than a friend should? Maybe. Like, a whole lot of “maybe.” And maybe, sometimes, on days like today, I just bask in the feeling. Today was too nice, too tranquil to try to fight anything, especially myself.
The Doctor’s footsteps grew closer, until they stopped behind me. Letting a puff of air out of his nose, he plopped onto the floor beside me, removing his specs from a front pocket (I wonder if his jacket is like Mary Poppins’ purse?). I took a moment to admire his face, gangly legs, and how content he seemed. Although it might have been more than a moment, because he began to stare back in a silent contest.
I couldn’t help but smile, shaking my head dismissively. He burst into a fit of laughter, a sort of melody, and I joined in.
“You goof,” I snorted, grinning.
He shrugged in reply, “What? You were the one staring at me.” Nudging my arm, he giggled.
“What?” my face felt warm, “You wish!”
At this he rolled his eyes, and shifted to dangle his legs off the edge of the doorframe, next to mine. We fell into a comforting silence, just staring out into space.
“Doctor?” I softly asked, trying to maintain the quiet.
He hummed, drumming his fingers on the floor.
“Did you have another name? Before you called yourself ‘The Doctor?’” I continued, suddenly feeling stupid for asking. It’s amazing how such small things can feel so intimate. Then again, perhaps I’m just making it more awkward than it needs to be.
The drumming of his fingers ceased. “Oh,” he whispered.
I let the now stifling silence linger to see if he would say anything, and when I realized he wasn’t going to, I panicked and said, “I’m sorry, that was a stupid question. Just...don’t reply to that one,” I laughed nervously.
He seemed contemplative. The sadness returned to his eyes, and he appeared to be worlds away from me despite being literal inches from each other. “’s fine,” he replied. “Just not what I was expecting. You’re the first to ask in a very long, long time.”
I gulped, worrying I just ruined our moment of calm, but he continued:
“I did have one. Hundreds and hundreds of years ago. But it carried a lot of weight with it, things I’ve done that I’m not proud of. I needed to change, and the name had to go too.”
Scooting closer, I leaned against him slightly and hugged him around the middle. “Hey, look, I really am sorry. I shouldn’t have asked. Let’s just leave it be, okay? It was a bad idea, I just thought--” I cut myself off, burying my head into his shoulder as my final statement.
He patted me on the shoulder as a form of forgiveness, and we both stared at the stars for a good ten minutes more. I could clearly hear his breathing, and the beating of his hearts made me feel a bit better. But it had been a busy day, and I thought I should go to my room to leave the Doctor to his thoughts. I slowly separated from him.
“I’m going to hang out in my room, as long as the TARDIS doesn’t hide it from me again,” I stood, preparing to turn away. “If she does, I’ll be in the librar-”
But the Doctor snatched my hand before I could take a step. “Wait!” he exclaimed. Then, softly, he muttered a syllable or two that I couldn’t make out.
“What? I didn’t hear the last bit,” I said.
He looked apprehensive for a moment, before he looked up at me. “Theta,” he spoke, “my name. It was Theta.”
My eyes widened, my stomach doing a stupid little flip. Theta. It was perfect. “It’s beautiful,” I whispered in awe, smiling. I sat back down, sitting within inches of him again, I spoke, trying the new combination of letters out for myself. “Theta,” I muttered, taking a moment to breathe it in. Absolutely stunning. Everything that he was, everything that he is, all in two syllables. I put a hand on his shoulder, gazing at his confused expression. “Theta,” I addressed him, “it’s beautiful. You’re...beautiful. Stunning. Just amazing,” I breathed.
Theta’s, the Doctor’s, eyes filled with tears. He swiped a hand under my chin and dove in close to my face, pecking my lips before withdrawing as quickly as he swooped in. My breath hitched, causing him to lean further away from me, but I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him in for a proper kiss, something I’ve wanted to do for so long now. I felt his nose brush against mine, the faint feeling of his stubble scratching against my chin. And lord knows I didn’t want to let go, but damn these human lungs. So I pulled back. And we stared at each other, just as we had twenty minutes before. But there was no giggling, no stupid jokes, just each other. Me and Theta against the world.
“I’d like to do that more often,” he said smiling meekly.
I never thought that the Doctor being anything but confident would make me feel all giddy inside, but that shy smile did the trick. “As long as I can say your name occasionally, I’d like that. I’d like that a lot.”
“Okay,” he replied, taking my hand in his.
And we watched the stars tumble through the atmosphere.

Do you think the Doctor should use violence? I tend to see an absolute pacifist Doctor as being a bit dull (except 7, though I still love all of them). If I wrote for the Doctor they would only use violence as an absolute last resort. Unless they were up against Nazis, in which case they would barely hesitate. What about you? How would you go about it?
Hello again! This is a wonderful question, and one that means a lot to me because of how my love for Doctor Who began.
I think that the conflict between violence and non-violence is one of the Doctor’s core struggles, especially the Doctors that come during and after the Time War. It’s one of the things that makes the Doctor such an interesting character. But at their very hearts, the Doctor needs to be a pacifist; that’s one of the core foundations of the entire show and one of the main things that sets it apart from everything else out there. (If the Doctor didn’t struggle with that pacifism, then yes, it wouldn’t be nearly as interesting and the Doctor would be a much flatter character!)
The exact moment I fell in love with Doctor Who was when Nine said, “Coward. Any day.” One of the great “flaws” of the Doctor is that they can’t even sacrifice one world, one city, or even one person for the sake of the universe—to the point that they often choose to die rather than use violence to save the day (although of course, most of the time a Thing ends up happening and fixes everything anyway). And it trickles down to a much smaller scale, where the Doctor rarely uses any sort of physical violence to solve their problems.
This is such a deeply-rooted thing that whenever we see the Doctor break this moral code, we know just how much it means to them. Of course, this does apply more to some Doctors than others. For example, you aren’t surprised when you see Three using Venusian aikido on people because that’s just what he does. But when you see Twelve punching Lord Sutcliffe in the face or Thirteen shoving the Master to the ground, it shows you just how angry and emotional they are; both of those scenes are pretty shocking to watch. There are less emotional cases, definitely (I just listened to an audio where Five punched someone so he could escape and kept apologising the entire time he was doing it), and I think it’s passable on that small scale occasionally—but especially for the Doctors during and after the Time War, I think it’s important that the Doctor stays away from violence overall, or at least tries to.
That’s the way I write the Doctor, too. The only time I write them using violence is to convey their really messed up emotional state; actually, off the top of my head I can’t really think of any specific instances where I’ve written a violent Doctor (although I feel like I probably have at some point). It’s something that’s pretty personal for me because the number one reason I latched onto Doctor Who in the first place, and why I continue to love it today, is that the Doctor uses wits rather than weapons or violence to save the day. I found Doctor Who when I was tired of all the popular fictional “heroes” who saved the day by also destroying tons of stuff, killing a whole lot of people, and trying to get revenge. Doctor Who hit me so hard because I didn’t know that something like it existed, or could even be successful in the world we live in today. But there it was, and here it is now.
So, in a very long and roundabout way, there’s your answer! Thanks again for this awesome question and all the others you asked! I really enjoyed replying to them. :)

Did somebody say “Sonic and Maddie bonding time”?
No? Well, you’re getting some anyways!
Mostly fluffy cuteness. With a side of angst, of course. (are you guys surprised? this is me we’re talking about.) It’s only a little angst, I promise. The angst is very brief. It’s mostly fluff. Like, ninety-five percent fluff.
“Hi, Pretzel Lady!”
Maddie smiled. “Hey, Sonic.” She glanced up from her video to see a familiar blue blur racing up the steps. “You just missed Tom. Crazy Carl needed help with something.”
Disappointment flashed briefly across Sonic’s face. Then he shrugged. “Ah, whatever. I can hang out with him later.” He noticed the mat she was sitting on and gasped. “Oh! You’re doing that weird thing you do every day.”
She raised an eyebrow. ”Yoga?”
“I’ve been meaning to ask-” Sonic interrupted himself. “Yeah, yoga, that’s the word. Anyway, where are your bones?”
Maddie laughed. “In my body? Where they’re supposed to be.”
Sonic put his hands on his hips. “No. Way. I’ve tried that yoga stuff before, you definitely can’t do that if you have bones, they don’t bend that way.”
Picking up her phone, Maddie clicked out of the video she was getting ready to work with. “Well, I’ve been at this a lot longer than you have. You’d need to start on something a little bit easier than what I do.”
“Easier? There are levels? What level are you on? Does Donut Lord do yoga? I feel like he doesn’t.” Sonic watched Maddie scroll through some videos. “His bones are not as bendy as yours.”
“There aren’t really levels, you just learn new positions as you go and challenge yourself every once in a while.” She held up the phone so he could pick one. “And no, Tom does not do yoga with me.”
Sonic glanced between Maddie and the phone. “I don’t know anything about this. Why are you holding the phone up to me?”
“Pick a video,” Maddie said. “Yoga will be a lot easier to learn when you have someone to help you.”
He looked surprised, but excited. “Really? You’re gonna teach me?”
“Sure am,” Maddie said, “I’ll be like your Obi-Wan Kenobi.”
Sonic’s smile didn’t quite reach his eyes. “No, I don’t think so.” Before Maddie could ask, Sonic was sitting next to her on the map. “Okay! What’s first? Do we stretch? I feel like this is one of those things you should stretch for.”
Maddie leaned forward and touched her toes with her fingertips. “You’re not wrong. It is a good idea to stretch, especially if you’re not very experienced.” She pulled in her legs and pushed down gently on her knees. “Try this one. It’s like a butterfly.”
Sonic studied her movements carefully and copied her almost exactly. He couldn’t push his knees down as far as she could, obviously, but he seemed to enjoy moving them up and down so that his legs looked like flapping wings. “Oh, I get it! That’s the butterfly part!”
“Look at you go!” gave his shoulder a playful nudge. “You’ll be a master in no time.” Knowing he wouldn’t be able to focus for long, she went ahead and started the video. He hadn’t stretched all that much, really, but she’d be impressed if he just made it through the fifteen minute video. They could always do another cool down stretch afterwards.
It was a beginner’s video, so Maddie was prepared for the basics. Sonic, however, was absolutely delighted by the upward and downward-facing dog positions. “Dog? Like Ozzy!” He watched the lady in the video tilt her head back to look up at the sky. “I’ve never seen a dog do this before.”
Maddie considered for a moment. “You know, I’ve never really seen a dog do this either. It’s more like a seal if you ask me.”
“Awesome,” Sonic said, “This is officially the upward-facing seal position now.” They both laughed as they started to transition into downward facing dog. “Now this I’ve seen Ozzy do.” He shifted his hands underneath him. “I wonder if I could do a handstand.”
“Maybe we’ll try that later,” Maddie said. “We’re doing yoga right now, remember?”
Sonic shifted again and then held still. As still as it gets for Sonic, anyway. “Yoga. Got it.”
“You’re doing great,” she told him.
He grinned. “I know, right? This is way easier than whatever you were doing, Pretzel Lady.” They shifted into the next position as Sonic continued talking. “I used to sit on the rock over there, the one behind all the- well, actually, you probably can’t see it. But I used to try and copy you. Man, it hurt sometimes. You can do some really neat stuff.”
She ignored the part where he basically admitted to spying on her. “I’m glad you think so.”
“Why do you do it, anyway?” Sonic asked. “You could be doing so many other things! Like running or playing baseball, but you do this instead.” He glanced over at her. “It’s cool and everything, don’t get me wrong, but just- y’know. Why?”
Maddie gave him half a shrug. “I feel more at peace when I do it.”
“At peace?”
“Yeah, kinda like you with running, I guess.”
Sonic frowned. “Running doesn’t make me feel peaceful.”
“It doesn’t?” Maddie asked as they stood, stretching their arm up into the air. “Then why do you run everywhere?”
“Why do you walk everywhere?” Sonic responded. “It’s just how I get around. I mean, it’s fun, but I wouldn’t say it gives me peace or anything.”
Maddie reached over and stopped the video. “Okay, color me curious. What eases your mind after a tough day?”
Sonic paused, his arms still in the air from the yoga pose. “I like playing with nunchucks, I guess.” His arms fell to his side. “Well, no, that’s not very peaceful. Does ping-pong count? Ping-pong is fun.” He crossed his arms. “Wait, that seems wrong too.”
“Um…”
“No, hang on, I got this.” Sonic started pacing back and forth across the mat. “I definitely do things that put me at peace. Probably. I do, don’t I? What are you asking me for? Because I don’t know! Well, I don’t know either, moron. Oh, shut up. You shut up!”
“Sonic,” Maddie interrupted.
Still pacing, he looked up at her. “Huh?”
She wanted to ask why he had started talking to himself, but decided against it. “Why don’t we… why don’t you show me where you live, huh? Maybe that’ll help you think of something.”
He halted. “You wanna see my cave?”
“Sure,” Madde replied. “Lead the way.”
“Awesome!” Sonic darted into the woods before Maddie could so much as blink. She grabbed her phone and swiped the video away before putting it in her pocket. Sonic reappeared moments later. “Sorry. I forgot.”
Maddie rolled up the yoga mat. “No worries.” She stood. “Now. Lead the way, but a little slower this time.”
“You got it, Pretzel Lady.” Sonic started off again, much slower this time, leading Maddie into the woods. Every so often he’d dart off, but he’d always come back after a few seconds.
The cave ended up being a lot farther into woods than she thought it’d be. “You’re pretty far out here, aren’t you?”
“Had to be,” Sonic said. “Couldn’t let anyone figure out where I was.” He pointed out a small hole. She never would have noticed it if he wasn’t there. “There it is.” Ducking inside, he called, “Come on! I’ll give you the tour!”
Maddie struggled for a moment to get in, but the inside of the cave was a lot bigger than it seemed, so she was able to stand, kind of.
Sonic zipped about the cave, excitedly talking about everything. There was an old dryer in the corner that Sonic claimed was an in-home gym of some sort. The bean bag in the middle of the floor was surrounded by comic books, exclusively The Flash. She watched Sonic demonstrate his nunchuck skills, wincing as he whacked himself in the face.
She walked over to the ping-pong table and picked up a paddle. “Wanna play a round?”
“Yeah!” He picked up the ball and the other paddle. “Ready?”
“Hit me, SpaceHog.”
Sonic served the ball and immediately darted to her side of the table. He watched Maddie for a moment and said, “Wait, I’m doing this wrong.” He went back to his side just in time to hit the ball back to Maddie. “Sorry ‘bout that. Not used to playing with others.”
She laughed. “No worries.” They played back and forth for a while. “You’re pretty good at this.”
“I’ve had a lot of practice,” Sonic said. “When I wasn’t in town messing with Crazy Carl or watching movies with you and Donut Lord, I was down here doing… this.”
Maddie was still trying to adjust to the whole ‘spying on them’ thing, but it was becoming less and less surprising the longer she hung out with him. The poor thing had nothing else to do. “I’m gonna go ahead and assume you didn’t have any friends over.”
Sonic snorted. “Me? No. I’ve never had any friends here on Earth.” He didn’t seem saddened by the statement, it was just a fact. “But now I have you and Donut Lord! We’re friends, right?”
“Of course we are,” Maddie assured him. “What about the planet where you’re from? Have any friends there?”
“Kind of.” Sonic said. “I was just a kid, and I wasn’t exactly allowed outside much. There was one person, though. She looked out for me. Kinda like a parent.” He smiled to himself. “She was great.”
Maddie noticed the past tense. “She couldn’t come with you?”
“I wanted her to,” Sonic said, “But she wouldn’t. She stayed behind and… well, you know, I came here.”
“Do you know what happened to her?”
“Yeah.” He didn’t elaborate. He didn’t seem to want to.
Maddie almost missed the ball on the next pass. Sonic seemed to be picking up the pace a little. “Is she the one that told you that you needed to stay hidden?”
Sonic nodded. “She said someone would always want my powers. Which meant no one could know about my powers, which meant no one could know about me.”
“I don’t know,” Maddie said, “I mean, the people of Green Hills know about your powers and nobody wants to use them.”
“They don’t, but that psycho doctor sure did.” Sonic frowned. “A lot of people almost got really hurt because of that.”
“You got really hurt because of that,” Maddie pointed out. “Could have been avoided if someone had known you were out here. We could have helped you. The government never would have even known.”
Sonic waved his free hand flippantly. “Yeah, sure, I got hurt, but that’s not important. It was my own fault for causing the power outage that led them here. Because I couldn’t keep a lid on my own feelings.”
Maddie was having trouble understanding the reasoning behind all of this. “That’s what I’m saying, though. You wouldn’t have felt so alone if there was someone you could turn to. And if you hadn’t felt alone, you wouldn’t have caused the power outage, meaning the government wouldn’t have found you.”
“That’s…” Sonic looked distracted, but he was still hitting the ping-pong ball just fine, which was kind of surprising. Then again, he was used to a much faster game. “That doesn’t- no, what would have stopped the government from finding me would be going to the mushroom planet like I was supposed to.”
“You said you didn’t want to do that,” Maddie reminded him.
“I didn’t want to do that,” Sonic said, “And I’m glad I didn’t have to do that, but it’s what she told me to do.”
Maddie was barely keeping up with the game at this point. “But why would she tell you to go somewhere you didn’t want to go? Did she just assume no one would want to help you? She helped you, didn’t she? Why did she think no one else would?”
Sonic’s expression looked conflicted. “Because… I don’t- she was…”
Maddie hit the ball back to Sonic. “I’m just saying that maybe she was wrong to-”
“She was not wrong!” Sonic shouted. Maddie had to duck to miss the ball the Sonic that Sonic had just hit full force. He slammed the paddle down and put his hands on the table to steady himself. “She wasn’t wrong. Of course she wasn’t wrong.” He glared at the space between his hands. “She was never wrong. I was wrong. I’m always wrong. I never listen, I should have listened to her, why didn’t I- I should’ve just-”
Blue flickered dangerously around Sonic. Which would be worrying in an open area, but even more so here in the cave. “Hey,” Maddie tried, “Sonic, I’m-”
His head snapped up. “No,” he said angrily. “You just- you… no.”
“Sonic, I’m not saying this friend of yours wasn’t trying to protect you,” Maddie amended, “I’m just trying to explain-”
“Well, don’t!” Sonic exclaimed. “Don’t explain it to me! I don’t wanna know!”
Maddie felt bad for pushing, but she had to know, “Why not? She told you that you needed to be by yourself-”
“No,” Sonic interrupted.
“And that wasn’t true,” Madde finished.
“No.”
Maddie knew Sonic was stubborn, but most of the time it was endearing. Now it was almost frustrating. “Why is it so hard to believe that she-”
Sonic hands curled into fists. “Because it means I spent ten years alone for nothing!”
The cave was completely silent. Maddie didn’t dare say anything else.
Sonic suddenly gasped and backed away from the table, the sparks of blue dissipating. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean- I…”
Maddie set down her paddle and walked to his side of the table. “No, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have pushed so hard.” She knelt beside him. “Why don’t we go back to the house, okay? We can do some more yoga. And Tom will probably be home soon.”
He looked up at her in surprise. “Really? But I just yelled at you.”
“Well, I kinda earned it.”
“No, you didn’t,” Sonic insisted, “I shouldn’t have yelled.”
They started towards the entrance of the cave. “And I shouldn’t have made you upset.”
“Yeah but-”
Maddie held up a hand. “You know what? Why don’t we agree to disagree on this one, huh? I’m sorry for making you mad, you’re sorry for shouting. We’ve both apologized and now we’re even. Okay?”
Sonic hesitated. “Okay.” They started their trek back home and Sonic asked, “Can I still try to do a handstand?”
“After yoga.”
“Okay, cool.” He was quiet for a moment. “I really am sorry.”
“I know,” Maddie said. But he would never be as sorry as she was. Everything he said was starting to set in, and she had several issues with it.
Had he really said ten years? Ten years of being alone? There was no way Sonic was more than fifteen, and she didn’t want to imagine a five year old wandering around by himself.
Earth was beautiful, but it could also be a terrible place. She hoped to God Sonic had stayed in the woods for most of his time on Earth, because there was so much, too much, that could have gone wrong.
And, of course, because she didn’t want to think about it, she couldn’t think of anything else all the way back to the house. Sonic unrolled the mat while Maddie found the video they had been using earlier. She’d tell Tom what had happened after Sonic went home for the night.
Except she didn’t want him to go back.
The thought hit her in a surprising moment of clarity while they followed along with the video.
She didn’t want Sonic to go back to that lonely cave in the middle of the woods with no one to talk to but himself, she wanted him to stay.
No, more than that. She needed him to stay. It wasn’t just that she couldn’t bear to think of how desperately lonely he was, and how that must be torture for such a sociable kid like him, but she also couldn’t imagine going a day without telling him not to run in the house.
It wasn’t enough that he visited every day. Sonic shouldn’t have to be alone for even a second, not after being alone for so long.
But it’s not like she had an immediate solution for that. Would Tom even… actually, yes, Tom probably would be okay with it. More than okay with it, really.
“Hey, Pretzel Lady?” She glanced down at Sonic, who was in a completely different position. “You okay? The chic in the video already moved on.”
Maddie moved into the next position. “I’m okay, Sonic. Just thinking.”
“About what?”
She smiled. “Nothing much. Just how awesome you’re gonna be when you do that handstand.”
He grinned. “Dude, it’s gonna be so awesome. I’m gonna show Donut Lord when he gets home! Can he do a handstand? I wanna see him do a handstand.” He suddenly stood upright, yoga pose forgotten. “Oh! I figured it out!”
“Figured what out?” Maddie asked.
Sonic resumed the pose, his grin growing a bit. “I figured out what makes me feel at peace.”
“Oh yeah? What’s that?”
He beamed up at her. “You guys.”
Maddie had to fight the urge to pull Sonic into a hug. She was certain that if she did, she wouldn’t be able to stop herself from crying tears of paternal happiness. “Tom and I put you at ease, huh?”
“Well, yeah.” Sonic glanced at the video to make sure they were still on the same position. “You know how long I’ve been running? Like, all my life. You guys make me feel like I don’t have to run anymore.” He paused. “I mean, I’ll still run, obviously, but only because I want to. Not because I have to.”
That did it. Maddie’s heart had officially melted.
Her and Tom were definitely having a discussion later.

The Dizzy Feeling
Ship: Leonardo x MC
Genre: fluff
Warnings: descriptions of sickness
————————————————————
He knew, right?Leonardo had to know. If he did, I felt grateful how he ignored it like I wanted. My head pounded with an unforgiving pain and my body felt light and airy wherever I moved.
“The plates and cutlery, can you place them?” Sebastian queried even though he knew I wouldn’t refuse.
“Yes, definitely, what residents will be eating today, do you know?” I replied, paying no mind to the pain that scratched my throat like sandpaper.
“I believe that tonight Master Vincent, Herr Mozart, Monsieur Napoleon, Sir Issac and Sir Arthur are eating now.” He said casually whilst I grabbed the stack of plates from the cupboard. Tracing my finger up the side of them, I counted quietly, the sound of skin on glass sung like swarm of bees to my overly sensitive hearing. “Vincent’s on his own tonight, then, where’s Theo?” I asked over my shoulder. I could hear Sebastian moving around, back-and-forth, to-and-throe. I could even hear the fabric of his finely tailored suit stretching as he reached out to claim the wooden spoon.
“I do believe he’s at a meeting to set up another exhibition,” he declared as I turned around swiftly. Holding the plates in my arms, I stabilised my self and stepped forward.
Wow.
A spark of dizziness. It stabbed through my mind as little colourful squiggles started to invade my eyesight. Taken back, I took a step backwards slamming my back up against the counters. everything seemed to slow down and all I heard was an ever growing squeak in my ear and the drumming of my heart. Sebastian’s head whipped around and saw my semi-panicked state.
"Are you okay?... ” he barely uttered, whether that volume was him or my failing hearing was left up to me. I could feel heat slither up my body and leave in waves causing me to sweat dramatically. The heat just kept throbbing out of my body as a new enemy appeared. Nausea. I felt sick. Really sick. The pain in my head stole my attention. I kept on imagining someone hitting me on the head again and again, making me panic even more.
“Hey!” A hand on my shoulder started to shake me. A firm, proper grip ,Sebastian, I think...
Letting a shaky breath exit me, I finally regained some sense of sanity. “I need fresh air Sebastian , I -uh- yeah... ” plates still in my arms, I made my way into the Dining room to place them before regaining oxygen. As I entered the room, the casual chit chat consisting of Arthur, Issac and Vincent who were all happily seated at the table waiting for their dinner like hungry children, ceased. I placard the plates down with a small clash and started handing them out, head down. I could feel six pairs of eyes on me, staring at my poor, sorry self. I didn’t want to feel weaker than they are, but most of all I didn’t want to ever be sick. The medicine and health care of this era is questionable and I didn’t want to die from being diagnosed Lead or Mercury or even worse, need Blood-Letting! So I refused to acknowledge my ill state. A Dutch accent was vocalised, ending the silence.
“Hey, MC, are you alright? You seem kind of .... pale.” He stated in a gingerly way. The other two just stared, attempting to deduce my state for themselves. Me? I just wanted to lay the table quickly and retreat outside. “I’m fine, Vincent. It’s just a bit hot in the kitchen right now.” I lied, almost as easy as I could breathe.
“Now, now, my dear MC, I know an ill person when I see them, and you seem to be suffering a lot at this moment in time.” Stated Arthur, so matter-of-factly. All the respect to the man, but damn can that detective in him be annoyingly accurate.
Now with only three plates being cradled like my life line, I came to Issac who had a look of ‘I won’t say anything because you don’t want me to’, at least someone understood. That sudden jab of dizziness caught up to me and I slammed the plates down on the table, feeling it completely consuming me. My heart throbbed and my head felt like it was smashing into a million bricks at one time. A burning feeling rose in my throat.
NO! I can’t be sick in front of them!
I attempted to run to the door, but realised it was impossible, so I scrambled to the farthest point I could get. I got to the end of the table when my weak, shaky legs gave up on me. Still clutching the corner of the table, I forced myself to swallow the nausea. The doors gently opened and the Lord of the mansion walked in and upon inspecting the room, rushed over to me.
“Ma Chérie, what’s wrong?” He crouched down to my level, but I knew it was too late. I attempted to shove him away and turn behind me, but Arthur and Vincent were blocking that way out. Issac remained seated but ready to leap out of his chair if needed, and amongst the commotion, Sebastian had meandered his way back in too, all just staring at me in bewilderment.
I coughed hard. A cough you get before you’re sick...
I hunched over, gagging visibly, knowing I was going to be sick, I turned forward and ...
Silence
Finally, I opened my eyes to the horror. The reason for the silence was instantly justified. I stared down at the floor to Comte’s expensive shoes, which I had just thrown up on.....
SHIT!
Guilt and nervousness, made me gag again. I was going to immediately apologise when a hand on the back of my neck held me in place and another hand was stoking my back. Arthur behind me went all doctor mode and started barking orders...
Soon a felt a comforting and on my shoulder, and I sneaked a peek to see Leonardo’s understanding but stern gaze. It’s that gaze that told me it was going to be alright, but that gaze also questioned why I didn’t tell him about this.
“Shush, Cara, it’s okay Comte understands so save the tears, sí?” The tears of pure guilt rolled down my cheeks. It wasn’t just him. I felt sorry for everyone having to see that. I felt so disgusted by myself. Over Leonardo’s shoulder I spied confused Napoleon and a very disgusted looking Mozart who obviously walked in because of the noise.
Sniffling some more, I leaned into Leonardo as he opened his arms and enveloped me. All I could hear was the silence again as they all stopped and heard my soft whimpers. Then I let the nice feeling of relaxing take me over...
My eyes gently eased open, and the muffled voices soon became clearer. A cold droplet of water ran down my face, and then another one, and again. I slowly raised my hand to feel a cold, wet cloth on my forehead to keep my temperature down most likely. Arthur’s face above me as well as Leonardo standing behind him came into view.
“You’re awake Cara Mia, that’s good, how do you feel?” That Italian accent that I adored so much filled my ears.
“Like I’ve just been hit by a train..” I mumbled, doubting he could hear me.
“Hmm, I see, and with that I suppose that headache of yours hasn’t subsided either or the possible pain in your stomach?” Arthur’s Scottish accent took my focus.
“How did you know about the headache and the stomach pain, I didn’t tell you did I?”
“No, MC but they’re common symptoms for people who were violently sick, especially on Comte’s shoes, hehe,” of course he would tease me. I sighed, I knew I would never live that one down.
“Right, at least a week in bed and obviously no working at all, understood? It’s Dr. Doyle’s orders, you remember that!” He said as he tapped my nose and left the room.
“Huh, why didn’t you tell me Cara?” Asked Leonardo who had recently lit a cigarillo and held it to his lips.
“I was scared,” I whimpered.
“I’ve realised, come here..” lifting the covers behind me, he gently placed himself and wrapped his one arm around me whilst the other held is cigarillo. I closed my eyes and just listened to the sound of him blowing out the smoke, creating this godly good scent to resonate in the room.
“Comte’s shoes, what happens after I.. err, Comte’s reaction?” I awkwardly questioned. A breathy laugh erupted from him, a breathy annoying laugh.
“Yeah, through out all the centuries of knowing him, I’ve never seen shock like that on his face. And you realise how it wasn’t just his shoes right?”
Huh?
“It was the bottom of his trousers too, and he just , heheh, stood there, absolutely frozen hahah,” well at least he found it funny, I guess.
Pushing my back into him more, I let the sleep and illness seep in and finally claim the girl it had spent days to conquer.

Magnificent Scoundrels- On the Great Journey
Another faction intro, this time from Halo. It should probably be noted that, obviously, I do not own Halo.
A note on timelines: This takes place in 2552, in between Halo 1 and 2. This is after the destruction of Instillation 04, and before Regret’s invasion of Earth.
Halo Galaxy
Earth, Capital World of the UNSC
The room was much like any typical human conference room throughout almost any galaxy. Plain. Utilitarian. Very, very grey. The table, too, was a sleek grey, matching the walls, and the chairs strung around it were typical of almost any high-class office building. Black, comfortable enough, and with wheels. Many an alien had and still has noted with some amusement the human fascination for chairs with wheels on them. Even the most hardened of generals and politicians always seemed to choose them over regular chairs. Most curious. But none of the aliens of this galaxy had ever noticed the subtleties of humanity. No. Here, there was only war between humanity and the theocratic alien empire known simply as the Covenant. This war was the reason for the meeting in this seemingly plain conference room.
Master Chief John-117 sat silently in a chair suitably enlarged for his massive frame. If one were not aware that there was a man beneath his heavy green armor, they might have mistaken him for a statue. He had been sitting like this, back perfectly straight, for exactly one hour, one minute, and forty one… forty two seconds now. He had arrived first to the meeting, as a good soldier should. The rest of the participants trickled in between then and half an hour ago.
He was currently playing a game in his head, one that he had come up with a long time ago. The nature of this game was simple: who is everyone at the meeting? What, or whom, do they represent? What do they want? For despite the fact that Master Chief had not moved in one hour, two minutes, and ten seconds, his mind was always alert. Always searching for threats.
The man at the head of the table was the easiest to know. An old face, wrinkled but still incredibly sharp, coupled with a crisp, white dress uniform and rows upon rows of medals made him a soldier. If one was more familiar with the current state of the UEG and UNSC, one would also instantly put a name with the face. Fleet Admiral Lord Terrance Hood, chief of naval operations and the de facto leader of the war effort, and thus humanity as a whole. John liked Lord Hood. Helpful. Practical. A soldier through and through.
The next was another old face, wearing the white uniform of an admiral. However, this woman did not have the reassuring eyes of Lord Hood. These eyes were old, cold, hard, and incredibly calculating. While Hood might have been in charge, Admiral Margaret Parangosky was probably the most dangerous person in the room. She was the head of ONI, the Office of Naval Intelligence. Master manipulator, master spy. She probably had enough information to destroy anyone else in the room. Cold, calculating, and ruthless, she was nevertheless a curt and professional leader.
The next, and the last one the Chief recognized, was another older woman. Greying hair framed a wrinkled face and pure blue eyes, still glowing with intelligence. Doctor Catherine Halsey, creator of the Spartan-II’s. Creator of Cortana. Scientist extraordinaire. The only thing even close to a mother figure he ever had. Yes, she was the one who kidnapped him from an unknown family and turned him into a living weapon… but she was still a mother figure, in a way. Master Chief suspected he had Stockholm syndrome. It didn’t really concern him. It was just one more problem on a list of many. Anxiety, depression, sociopathy, paranoia, violent PTSD. He had it all. He ignored it. The only thing that mattered was the mission.
All of the other members of the meeting could fit into three groups: the soldiers, the politicians, and the spies.
The soldiers were the easiest to understand. Either Army or Navy, they were no nonsense (for the most part) and practical. Soldiers. People he understood. They had a duty, and they did it.
Spies were, as they probably should be, the hardest to understand. They were all from ONI, and were, by far, the least trustworthy in the room. Hated and feared, they were the ones who oversaw much of the UNSC’s secret projects. It was their agents who had kidnapped him as a baby for the Spartan program. Lord Hood didn’t trust them. Dr. Halsey didn’t trust them. Master Chief didn’t trust them either. Too concerned with power plays and secrets. It was in their nature to be untrustworthy, just as it was in Master Chief’s nature to be blunt.
The third group were the politicians. While they might normally be the most problem faction, these were extraordinary times. The United Earth Governments had no power. The United Nations Space Command had taken full control under material law to repel the Covenant. The politicians technically had no say-so, but they were still kept in the loop so as not to cause any problems. No one wanted a rogue politician talking too much, and here Admirals Hood and Parangosky could keep an eye on them.
None except Hood, several of the diplomats, and Parangosky were actually required. Most, from Dr. Hasley, to the ONI spies, to the politicians were here either as precautions, in case something came up that would require their expertise, or so that they wouldn’t cause any problems. Hood and Parangosky were crafty enough to realize that snubbing people was probably not the best idea for fostering a united war effort.
“And now, Master Chief John-117, please present your finds,” asked Parangosky. Oh, shit. This was the part he had been dreading. He absolutely despised talking to people, but this time he really didn’t have a choice.
“Yes, ma’am.” His gravelly voice rang clearly through the room as everyone went silent. “I met with the group you told me to. Their dossiers are in my report. They seem nice enough.” He wasn’t quite sure if he was doing this right. He didn’t have much practice talking to other humans. Parangosky looked at him with an annoyed expression, but Hood held up a hand to forestall any comments.
“I know you don’t particularly like to do this, Chief. However, we need to know where everyone in these new galaxies stand.” The politicians and various lower ranked officers gave sycophantic nods.
“Yes, sir.” A holoprojector sprang to life, displaying the various symbols of different inter-galactic powers. “Most are either peaceful inter-species coalitions or human-supremacist empires. From what Cortana has told me, the more human-supremacist and militaristic, the more likely they are to stand with us.” The table broke out with murmuring.
“Now what?” asked one of the Admirals. “Who exactly is going to help us? Can we actually trust them?”
“The people I’ve seen are trustworthy,” responded the Chief. If slightly bizarre, and, on several instances, slightly insane. “Whether or not we can trust their governments is another problem.” Thankfully, not my problem.
“What about their weapons?” questioned an ONI agent.
“Everything I’ve learned about their weapons is in my report.” Honestly, what was the point of writing reports if no one was going to read them?
“Can we get any of these weapons?” pressed the agent. Why are ONI agents so annoying?
“While the individuals I’ve met want to keep their own weapons, at least one is willing to sell them,” replied the Chief gruffly. He hadn’t, and wouldn’t, tell them about Drake’s gift. They would want to get their hands all over it, disassemble it, and he’d never get it back. It was put to much better use in his hands. At least it was in his opinion. Although, Drake would probably be perfectly willing to sell anything from laser weapons to WMDs if the price was right. The ONI agent began whining again.
“All the “militaristic” powers are fighting other things! All the peaceful ones wouldn’t want to get involved in the Covenant War, and all the other ones would probably want to screw us over.” Like you wouldn’t do the same thing if you were in their place, Master Chief wanted to say. Bloody ONI.
The Chief looked appealingly over to Hood, the question evident in his eyes. Hood gave Master Chief a nod.
“Thank you, Chief. You can sit down now,” he said. Thank God. John slumped into his seat. He would much rather take on entire platoons of Covenant soldiers instead of doing even the most miniscule of talking, especially to these types of people. Oh, well. Sometimes being the greatest soldier in history had its drawbacks.
High Charity
Capital and Holy City of the Covenant
High Charity was an utterly massive, near planetoid-sized space station, and the floating capital of the alien empire known as the Covenant. Hundreds of kilometers in diameter, and home to billions of individuals, it was the Covenant’s religious center and practical homeworld. High Charity was larger than moons, and more impressive than most planets, including most of those ruled by the UNSC. It was here that, just like many a government, the leaders of the Covenant sat to discuss the current situation.
The room itself was rectangular, and looked largely like some gladiator pit made of stainless steel. In the “stands” were the members of the High Council, the legislative body of the Covenant. Made up of only Sangheli and San’Shyuum, the two most respected species of the Covenant, it was their job to pass laws and rule the empire as a whole. Lower down, at the edge of the “pit”, was an elevated dias, on which were three chairs. The true rulers of the Covenant, the Hierarchs, sat here, in magnificent gravity thrones. They were the High Prophets of Truth, Mercy, and Regret. The religious leaders, and, due to its nature as a theocratic empire, the political leaders of the Covenant, it was their duty to guide the various races along the Great Journey. Now, it was their duty to guide the Covenant into these new galaxies, to the ultimate goal of ascendance. At the present moment, it was all they could do to keep the Council in order.
“What of the trial of Thel ‘Vadam?” shouted members from the stands. The entire room was in an uproar, yelling at each other, yelling at the Prophets, yelling at the guards, yelling at anyone that would listen. In fact, several of them were yelling just to yell, certain that no one really cared, but determined to add their weight to the conversation. If, of course, the orgy of disorder could actually be called a conversation.
“Yes! What of the trial?” cried another.
“Nay! The trial is of limited importance now! What of these new places? What happens there? We must know!”
“Indeed! This is a pressing concern! We must discuss this new development! The trial can wait!” shouted someone else.
“No! The trial is of immediate importance! It must happen now!” called another Council member.
“What of the humans? How are they affected by this? Does the Covenant exist in these new galaxies? Does humanity? Do the Forerunners?”
“Enough! There will be order in these chambers!” the shrill and somewhat warbling voice of the Prophet of Mercy called from his gravity throne.
“Indeed! I am ashamed of this behavior!” added the Prophet of Truth. The voices died down to barely audibly muttering, then vanished completely as the Prophets looked around the room.
“Good. Now, on to the business of this session. The High Council has convened for a special session. While originally supposed to be for the trial of Thel ‘Vadam, it now takes a new purpose: we must discuss these new places and what exactly they mean for our future,” said Truth. The Prophets of Mercy and Regret nodded along with him. The voices swelled once again, murmuring, then threatening to break out in a crescendo of noise.
“Order!” yelled Regret over the din. The babble died down once more. Despite the Prophets being San'Shyuum, a species that looked largely like bipedal worms with oversized craniums and were about as physically threatening as the description suggests, they were the religious leaders of the Covenant, and so their word was law. Though the Council could technically oppose them, it rarely did so. Those who called for the trial to take place immediately were gradually silenced, and the chamber came to order.
“As it should be,” muttered Mercy crossly.
“Now, on to business.” The ‘again’ in that sentence remained unsaid. “Due to still unknown reasons, several other galaxies have appeared beyond the borders of ours. We know not what they are. We know not what they want.” The Council started to murmur again.
“Therefore, to make certain no one interferes, it is our duty to start down the Great Journey as soon as possible. Thel ‘Vadam and his fleet, while unable to prevent its destruction, found one of the Sacred Rings. It is but a short time when we find another.”
“Yes, indeed,” said Regret. “We have located a Sacred Icon, needed for the firing of the Rings, on a human world.” The Council broke out in shouting once more.
“We must retrieve it immediately!”
“Yes! The Heretics have no right to hold such an artifact!”
“Silence!” roared Truth once more. He looked around at the assemblage, then continued. “We shall retrieve this Icon as soon as possible. The trial of Thel ‘Vadam shall happen, a fleet shall be prepared, the icon retrieved, and the Rings fired.” The murmurings became positive.
“Good. Onwards, on the Great Journey, for the glory of the Covenant!”
And there we are. As always, if you have any comments, questions, concerns, criticisms, or requests, feel free to ask!

It’s a match up baby
hi, i'd like a matchup if they're open! i’m a female aries, ISFP, 5'3, and a hufflepuff! i’m kind, soft-hearted & cheerful, & i’m pretty smiley unless i’m upset, then i tend to withdraw, falling silent and retreating somewhere quiet in case i might cry. i can be kind of childlike as well; i get excited easily! i’m clumsy too, and my legs are usually covered with bruises and scratches. i’m pretty introverted around strangers, but i become more open and hyper around friends and family! i’m an affectionate person, i’ll hug or cling to friends (especially if i'm scared)! i like baking whenever i have free time (baked goods will be shared with my friends)! i knit scarves; i like writing, reading, listening to music and watching movies. i get mood swings sometimes, or i’ll feel sad suddenly (plus i get anxious and stressed, overthinking and assuming the worst), so reassurance is appreciated! i also hate thunderstorms and loud noises, since they scare me! thank you so much! 💛💛💛
Thank you @3rdgymbros for requesting, I hope you enjoy. Have a good rest of the day.
I MATCH YOU WITH...
Arthur Conan Doyle
at first he would be absolutely terrified to come near you, besides to flirt obviously, because he would think the moment he touched you- you would disappear from his arms just like everyone else in his past
when I say this man’s heart would melt when he saw how kind you were and how soft your heart is- I mean it.
If he happened to see you go an extra mile to help someone he wouldn’t be able to stop just looking at you with that soft boi smile and love in his eyes
And when you smile at him- my lord- it’s like he can feel all his darkness he keeps in his heart just float away from how bright you look
when he first saw how you reacted to being upset or hurt he was angry honestly, and a little sad
angry because the thought that, normally, the people who shut down when sad are the people who have been hurt by someone else telling them that their emotions make them weak, that you should just get over it, or they had their emotions used against them, wouldn’t stop running through his mind
and sad because he wants nothing more to help you and hold you in your moment of need, but he knows that if he pushes you too far you will never open up to him. So all he can do is make you a drink, give you tissues, and fudge, and tell you he is a great listener if you ever needed an ear
if he happens to catch you crying, and you are okay with being seen at that moment, he wouldn’t hesitate to grab you and hold you close while either humming an old tune he knows or distract you by telling you a wonderous tale of great adventures
this man notices everything so when he noticed your childlike excitement even towards the tiniest things he can’t help the devilish smirk that just spells trouble that appears on his face
he would take so much advantage on this fact. I mean- surprises, gifts, sugary sweet words, basically anything that makes you smile he’ll do it- just to see that excitement of yours one more time
Clumsy and constantly has small injuries or bruises? No problem! Doctor Doyle to the rescue. He would constantly carry around a few first aid supplies just in case you happen to trip over air and scrap your knee, or bump into a pole in the middle of the walk way that any normal person could see and get bruised
of course working in a few sweet, flirty words while he bandaged you up
while you being introverted towards strangers was definitely a problem at the being of your relationship, Arthur would always find a way to bring you out of your shell and do something with you that you enjoy
he honestly thought it was adorable how you were so quite and shy at the beginning
and whenever you felt comfortable enough to show the hyper and excited side of you he loved seeing it just as much
basically this man would love every inch of you
one time you two were sitting in his room, he was writing and you were doing your normal thing to entertain yourself, when the sound of the originally distant thunder crashed loudly right above your heads
the screech you let out shocked Arthur, yes, but the moment he felt your trembling arms wrap around him and you hide your face in the soft fabric of his clothing, he thought he heart would stop from how fast it was beating
he would be terrified of the feelings he would have for you- the way you keep him on his toes, guessing what you will do next makes him weak to you and you alone
if you ever baked him a treat he would definitely lick his lips and stare at the treat with big puppy eyes before digging in and making a dramatic scene by picking you up, twirling you in his arms, and go on and on about how you’re the best baker he has ever met
you made him a scarf once.... and now he won’t take it off. Worships it like it’s gold honestly.
Once he would find out you’re a writer too, the teasing would not stop
he of course would read over what ever you allowed him too- pushing his glasses up every once in a while, while poking his lip out, and mumbling how you just ended his career
you better bet once he finished another book you would be the first one he shows it to
I can just imagine it now... you would be doing... whatever you shall please and he would appear out of no where- skipping towards you- with his writing in his hand
he would shove it in your hands and smile at you- not saying a word- and glance down at his writing then back at you... once again with puppy dog eyes
he would know you like music, just by the way he caught you humming one of Mozart’s pieces, so he would always take you gently by the hand and dance with you whenever you two heard music (if you like to dance)
when- if ever- he saw one of your ‘mood swings’ (as you call them) and saw how sad you were, he would do everything in his power to 1- make you smile and 2- to be prepared the next time it happened
you had a hard day, a very hard day, one time and your anxiety and stress was just rolling off you in big, old, fat waves. I mean the whole nine yards- shaking, playing with your fingers, looking side to side constantly, breathing fast, you name it
he would whisk you away, take you to a quiet room away from everyone else, and just hold you while you cried (if you would cry in a situation like that) on his shoulder- no questions asked
his hand would not stop petting you gently, his humming would not stop until you calmed down, his encourages he knew you loved hearing would not stop, his compliments, whispers of love, small kisses on your forehead would not stop
once you had settled down he would pull away from you while still keeping his hands on your shoulders, just to reassure you he was there, and ask who he needed to beat up
OTHER MATCHES INCLUDE:...
Wolfgang Mozart
I might ship you with him a tiny bit more than Arthur (I’m not too sure) I just think that your kindness and soft heart would break through the wall he places between himself and others. When he first saw your childlike excitement his stone cold façade about dropped by how shocked he was at the emotions he was feeling, witnessing you bounce around like a toddler. The first time he saw you walk away, to hide, tears brimming in your eyes, the guilt and self hatred he felt was so overwhelming. He had said a nasty comment that went too far, obviously hurting your feeling, and he loathed himself- like wanted to punch a wall loathed himself- and you know his hands can’t take any damage or his career and passion is over. This man would practically be on his knees, face red as a tomato, looking everywhere but your tear filled eyes, begging for you too stop your unnecessary crying and get over it because he had... feelings of regret (his way of apologizing lol).
Your introverted reactions towards strangers both brought him closer and pushed him away. Closer because you reminded him of Jean and he thought it wouldn’t be too bad to get to tolerate your presence, some. And it pushed him away because ya know... both of you are introverts that don’t look for conversation or human contact at the beginning. When there would be a thunder storm and you grabbed onto him he would tense up at first and tell you to get off but once he saw how bad you were shaking he sighed, shook his head, rolled his eyes, and awkwardly pat your head until you calmed down. You like baking, he likes chocolate BOOM! ultimate couple. Mozart is not the best with words but he would encourage and reassure you in his own way (you're job is just to notice it and accept that, that is just how he is). He is also not good with emotions or people touching him but whenever you get stressed or anxious he’ll allow you to rest your head in the crook of his neck and wrap your arms around him (Jean would be sooo disappointed knowing you two do premarital hugging *sigh* the shame)

I've recently started reading SW novels and I just need someone to hear me out: 1. ROTS novelization by Matthew Stover is a real masterpiece. Probably one of my fav books. 2. If I were Obi I would hate flying too after what happened in Master & Apprentice. Also I'm not really fond of Qui Gon. 3.Dark Disciple is great and Asajj Ventress is so interesting character. 4. I really like the Clone Wars Gambit series. I need more Taria Damsin content. I loved her. Also: why everyone Obi loves die? 1/2
2/2 He really deserves better. And the dynamic of his relationship with Anakin is shown really well. 5. From a certain point of view is one of my fav SW books. Waiting for the next part. 6. Shatterpoint by Matthew Stover. I take back (almost) everything bad I have ever said about Mace Windu. I officially love this character. He cares for Depa so much. I don't care it's legends. Mace Windu is great. PS. Do u know any other SW books worth reading? Cause need more.
3/2 (I promise it is the last one) PPS. I love 'Disconnected Conduit'. The idea is so brilliant! I actually re-read it several times. Idk why, but always when I read descryption of Anakin, I can hear 'Monster' by Imagine Dragons, especially lines like: "I never said that I want this, this burden came to me and it's made it's home inside" or "If I told you what I was, would you turn your back on me? And if I seem dangerous, would you be scared?" asjjsizoksejeizhdvg it's so good!
4/2 (okay, I lied. But this really is the last one) Anyway you're so talented and your work is so amazing! Keep going! PPPS. I'm also a big fan of your Silka Beads series. I'll be waiting patiently (or at least I'll try) for Ahsoka meeting Luke. Thanks for hearing me out. 😅
5/2 I forgot about one thing. I guess I'll just come back to TCW and re-watch every single episode with Mace Windu. I've got a feeling, I will see him differently than before. Wow. My speech was a bit longer than I anticipated. Anyway may the Force be with you!
My god, wow, thanks for the messages! I certainly have a lot to answer.
Books worth reading: Hooooo boy I have a FUCKING LIST I hope you’re ready for this. These are Canon.
Battlefront II: Inferno Squad
Lords Of The Sith (The Novel)
Ahsoka
Queen’s Peril
Queen’s Shadow
Thrawn
Thrawn: Alliances
Thrawn: Treason
Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising
Doctor Aphra (audiobook OR comics)
Darth Vader 2020 (comics)
Catalyst
Tarkin
A New Dawn
As for legends:
Darth Plagueis
Kenobi
And in response to your questions in no particular order because right now I am extremely scatterbrained and have had a long day:
IMO Mace gets villified far too much in this fandom. There’s a lot of Mace hate, I think. And I get it. He comes off as a dick sometimes. But he’s such a good person at heart and too many people take his passing comments and amplify it and use it to poison his other good actions or use it to forget about them entirely.
I just want my boi Obi-Wan to be happy too ;-;
Dark Disciple was great. But. But. Ventress deserved better.
ROTS novel is the fucking best
Thank you so much ;-; I’ll update eventually for both DC and Silka Spirits, I swear. One day. I’m currently absolutely pooped thanks to school.
Thank you again for these wonderful messages. If you or anybody else has sent m a dm and I haven’t responded, it’s because I’m absolutely lacking the social energy to uphold a conversation. I’ll reply when I can.

23 for the prompt
Thank you so much for the prompt! 😁
Going with a different spin in the usual post EoT setting for 23. Reunion (under a cut because I have no self control, apparently 😂)
Five days.
That's how long it takes before the Master, whose reputation does indeed proceed him, gets stolen away again.
In hindsight the Doctor knows he should have seen this coming. Nothing about the Master is discreet and considering how quickly even Naismith's limited forces managed to track him down it shouldn't be surprising that their confrontation with the council attracted more than enough attention.
Still, he had thought (hoped) the two of them were entitled to - Well, who knows what he expected. Peace is something they'll never know and there's too much history between them to jump into happiness. But traveling together after all this time is as close to either as he thought he could have that more than five days out of nine hundred years worth doesn't seem like much of an ask.
“Apparently not,” he mutters, slamming a hand against the console as he runs yet another scan. It feels like all he's done in the past twenty-four hours is run in circles and trace readings, anything to give him the slightest clue as to where they've gone to no avail.
He keeps flashing back over the days they had. As wary as he had been to let the Master on the Tardis his hearts were pounding with the fact that they battled Rassilon together, finally, unquestionably chose each other and despite the Master's show of reluctance he had to assume he felt the same.
“Please, just – come with me.”
“Oh good, I was wondering when that knack for penance you've got would show back up again.”
“Stop it! You saved my life a few minutes ago. Just like I saved yours, and – No, don't, I didn't do it because I expected anything from you, I just. It's different now, isn't it?”
“... As much as it ever is.”
“Come with me, Master. We can go anywhere. There have to be ground rules, just a few. You know there have to be, but that's all I'm asking.”
“Oh, is that all, Doctor?
But he still followed and though they fought fiercely over the Doctor insisting on remote locations to start it was everything he wished he never ran from in the first place. Watching a nebula they heard about as children, arguing over star formations, picturesque landscapes that went on for miles as the Master cracked tasteless jokes all the while just to get a rise out of him.
Then, their stop yesterday. A remote beach with pink sand and sun that gleamed behind the Master throwing him a wicked smile until a blast threw them apart.
He landed by the Tardis, stunned but reaching up towards the door as he turned to see him now surrounded by masked soldiers and pulled back by what seemed like dozens of hands, shaking his head wildly for him to – not come after him, he thought at the time even if he's second guessing it now. He had pulled out his sonic, aiming frantically when another sedative was plunged into the Master's neck and the entire scene before him disappeared. Teleportation, maybe? Probably.
“Come on!”
Another scan. He can't even bring himself to care that losing his touch within days of close proximity has to be some sort of sign . Suddenly holding on to this regeneration doesn't feel like the reward it is without the Master next to him. A flicker of shame flashes through him at how ungrateful the thought is but he doesn't regret it. As he leans against the wall pulling fistfuls of his hair in frustration, the console suddenly lights up with an array of lights and blaring noises.
“Yes!”
He scrambles over, pulling printouts and dashing between the screens. “A lock, yes! Absolutely brilliant, you are, thank you!”
The Tardis hurdles towards his destination and he finally throws the doors open to see a lone building burning against a desolated backdrop. There's obviously been an explosion inside what seems to be a primitive version of a laboratory that he barely glances at, racing from room to room ignoring scattered bodies in uniform as the Master is nowhere to be found.
“Ran off in that state?
His eyes land on a guard's uniform collapsed in a corner. It's the Master, unrestrained but injured and throwing a critical look over his disheveled hair. “You must miss me. I'm touched.”
“Really? Now? I thought you were dead!”
“Humans never want to keep me away from computers, do they? Their loss.”
The Doctor frowns at the comment but rushes over, stopping short as his adrenaline suddenly drains. He didn't realize just how much the sudden disappearance had terrified him. He's never been so worried, he realizes, about anyone, and abruptly leans down to tuck his face into the Master's neck as he clutches on to him. He almost backs away moments later, embarrassed to realize the Master hasn't moved, but suddenly a hand slowly rises to rest lightly against his back. The other shortly follows to cup his cheek and he gratefully leans into it. They sit for what feels like an eternity until the Master tries and fails to hold back a cough and the Doctor springs back.
“Sorry! I'm – Sorry. We should probably get you back to the Tardis.”
The Master glances at him but doesn't reply as the Doctor takes his weight while they carefully walk down the hallway. The tension from earlier has vanished from the stale air now that the Master is back at his side, apparently the lone survivor, but somehow things still feel... wrong.
His eyes dart around the lab to the aforementioned computers, which seem fairly basic? He takes in more detail as they walk, finally landing on a drop of blood trailing down the Master's face as he smiles hazily back at him. There's nothing advanced enough here to track them. Not even very impressive organization, even. More blood on his teeth that he runs his tongue over and the Doctor tries not to reel back as he shoves any assumptions out of his head, there's no time. They need to leave, now.
“Go on then, what's the rush? I know you've worked it out by now.”
The Doctor closes his eyes. “Let's just go back to the Tardis.”
At that he jerks away, throwing his arm off and struggling to stay upright as his eyes flare. “Oh, because the setting really matters! I'd rather get it over with now, Doctor, let's hear it!”
“... You let them take you,” he whispers. “You let yourself get kidnapped.”
“I prefer ‘orchestrated’ but eh, semantics. I may have gotten word of an especially pathetic attempt at a repeat performance and laid a few crumbs here and there. Look at this dump! Imagine any idiot here thinking they have the right to touch either of us! We're Time Lords!”
“But - that's it!? Why go through all this! We were trying to have a fresh start, you don't think it means anything that we're both here now?”
“There is no fresh start!”
At that the Master looks away, seemingly embarrassed at the outburst. “If someone aims to kill, Doctor, I won't ignore it. You think you can pretend we're back on Gallifrey, wide eyed and starstruck. That might still be in your regeneration but I'm not looking back for anyone, not even you, and I won't play house until you realize what I've been saying all along.”
His leg slips as the Doctor leaps to catch him, struggling to hold on as he pushes back.
“Did you hear a word I said!? Just go. Leave!”
“I heard you.”
He feels the Master freeze and takes advantage of the moment to rest his head against his shoulder as he runs a hand down his back. “I heard you. And all of this was, what? Meant to be proof that I'm looking for an excuse to turn you away? I asked you to come with me!”
“To ease your own conscience!”
It's his turn to look away, then back. “Master. Please, I need you to hear me.”
Furious eyes snap to his only to widen in shock as the Doctor gently taps their foreheads together, quickly moving to nuzzle his cheek as he pulls back to look at him directly.
“I know that you retaliated against a threat. That you always will. I also know that you wouldn't have gone looking for one in the first place if you weren't trying to make a point. Come back to the Tardis with me.”
His words hang in the air as the Master searches his face almost desperately, pulling back suddenly to laugh, the echo of it cutting through the room until he centers himself, leaning in.
“Oh Doctor,” he murmurs. “Those standards of yours certainly have fallen, haven't they?”

Two Can Play At That Game: The Horror Story Version
While working on the main Two Can Play At That Game story, I received a lot of amazing questions in the comments section that helped me flesh out the world of that AU quite a bit, enough that I probably have enough material for another dozen stories in that ‘verse.
There was one question, however, that I was surprised no one asked: In Chapter 6, what would have happened if Harry had asked the Monks for help?
The short answer is: it would have been a horror story. So I wrote one.
Since it’s a bit off-topic for the main series and extremely grim, I’m posting it here on Tumblr instead of on AO3.
Brace yourself, reader: this is going to hurt.
(cw for consent issues related to memory alteration)
Question: How often do the Monks succeed in getting someone to take their offer?
Answer: Almost every time.
Explanation: The Monks may claim to follow a certain set of rules, but the truth is that they are more than willing to bend the rules if they can get away with it.
Addition: They almost always get away with it.
Question: Why was this the time and place where they chose to reveal themselves?
Answer: Because the world was in danger of ending.
Follow-up Question: But this can’t be the only time. Why now?
Conjecture: The Doctor was present on Earth at the time and vulnerable.
Further Analysis: Some worlds are easier for the Monks to rule than others. Species with short life spans or low reproduction rates are difficult, as it adds risk that the link may not pass through a bloodline.
Time Lords, despite being on the lower end of the reproduction rate spectrum, are very long-lived. Uniquely so.
But Gallifrey would never consent. No one with power there would relinquish it to another, especially an outsider.
(Footnote: Besides, they’re all dead now anyway.)
But there is a very famous Time Lord, one with power, one with absolute conviction, and one whose allegiances lie with a planet other than Gallifrey.
Conclusion: Getting the Doctor’s consent would give the Monks dominion over Earth for thousands of years.
Counter-argument: The Doctor would never agree to such an arrangement.
Correction: The Doctor would almost never agree to such an arrangement.
Recent Development: The Doctor is not the only Time Lord on Earth at the moment.
(Footnote: He’s not even the only Doctor on Earth at the moment.)
Objection: Jenny Smith and Harry Jones are not Time Lords.
Revision: They are still technically Time Lords.
Reminder: The Monks are more than willing to win on a technicality.
Question: If Harry Jones counts as a Time Lord, then wouldn’t the Master need to be the one to consent?
Answer: Yes. Both Harry and the Master would need to consent.
Reminder: Love is consent.
Hypothesis: The only way this will work is if the maniac inside one human loves the maniac inside another human as much as Harry Jones loves Jenny Smith.
Result: It works.
Design: While the Monks would have preferred the Doctor as their link, the Master is still more than suitable for their purposes. He spends almost as much time on Earth as the Doctor does, and therefore the Monks have collected a useful amount of data on him (or her). His willingness to make a deal in desperate circumstances is well known, but so is his tendency towards backstabbing his allies at the first opportunity. He must be dealt with before he has the chance to cause trouble.
Conjecture: If the Monks have the power to hypnotize the population of an entire world, revise history, and orchestrate events in their favour, then opening a locked biodata module would be comparatively easy.
Opportunity: It is also comparatively easy to rewrite the memories of a Time Lord when her memories are stored in a convenient external location free of her usual psychic defenses.
Analysis: The Master is at his most vulnerable when he has gotten what he wanted.
Conclusion: So the Monks give him what he wants more than anything else.
---------------
Observation:
It would be easy to say that they were lucky. Easy, but not correct: luck had nothing to do with it.
No one on Earth has ever needed luck. That’s what the Monks are for.
“Blessed” might be a better term. The Monks have given humanity so much: guidance, resources, power…
But more generously than any of that, they gave humanity the Caretakers.
The Monks’ representatives on Earth, who watched the dawn of humanity and guided its progress over thousands of years. Two beings from another world: ancient and wise and mighty enough to be everything that this world and its inhabitants would ever need.
There was no need for gods or religions. The Caretakers were undeniably present and active on Earth.
Worship them carefully. Invoke them at your own risk.
The Master was the one that you called upon when your back was up against the wall and your only other option was death. Granted, the outcome might still involve you (and everyone you’ve ever met) dying horribly, but slim odds were better than no odds at all.
The Doctor was the one that you called upon when you were somehow more desperate than that. You might get everything you ever wanted… but the cost would be higher than you could ever comprehend. You’d give up things you never even knew you had, things you never thought it possible to lose.
And you would be grateful.
The Doctor would drop out of the sky and tear down your world and all you would be able to say at the end of it was “thank you.”
The Master was capricious and ruthless, but at least he could be reasoned with if you caught him on a good day.
There was no reasoning with the Doctor.
Most of the prayers and invocations to the Doctor were pleas to not be noticed.
The Earth was full of stories and legends that, before the Doctor arrived, used to be places and people.
There was a town that had once been the epicenter of decades of unrest, and one day the Doctor arrived with the intention of helping. That aid was not wanted by everyone present, however, and tensions rose until someone made a mistake.
A very foolish mistake.
The Doctor’s blood had barely hit the ground when the Master arrived.
That town is no longer there. Neither is that region. Neither is that country.
No, not destroyed. Not burned or nuked or anything like that.
It was unmade.
It never existed.
But the story remains. The Master made sure of that.
The Earth was as much of a gift to them as they were a gift to the Earth.
“We were so close to falling apart, back then,” she reminds him. “All of our rivalries and petty jealousies… they would have torn us to pieces if the Monks hadn’t arrived on Gallifrey and taken us to Earth.”
She calls it their “garden”—one that they have tended together for thousands of years, wearing so many different faces.
And for every single one of those years and every single one of those faces, they have loved one another: through beauty and decay, age and injury, madness and passion… always them, always together.
All thanks to the Monks.
It would be easy to say that they were lucky. Easy, but not correct: luck had nothing to do with it.
---------------
Discussion:
The link always knows, to some extent, what has truly occurred; however, this knowledge takes effort to keep in one’s conscious mind.
It is very easy to bury this knowledge if the link does not want to remember what has happened.
Or if they do not want to remember what they have done.
He does not want to remember what he has done. He does not want to remember what he has done to her with the bargain that he made.
It is a cruel contradiction: he would not have been able to do this if he didn’t love her, but how could he do something like this to the person he loves?
The truth is monstrous. So is he.
So is his love.
This is why he does not want to remember what he has done… and besides, he has always been more comfortable with lies.
So he rises in the mornings, kisses his beloved, tends the garden they were given, and tells himself that this is a happy story.
Even though we all know that it isn’t.

Thoughts about Shelley and the Unresolved Questions of Season 12
Well, I am writing a meta post about the Timeless Children and why I think it adds such an interesting complexity to the Master’s relationship with the Doctor, but in the meantime, while I process that finale, I wanted to write about something I’ve noticed this entire season.
The connection to the Shelleys and to Byron.
To TL;DR this post: I think that next season, we’ll get an answer to who the Kasaavin are, it will tie into Percy having had the Cyberium in him (and it having been around Byron’s house), and we’ll get some huge development for Yaz, the Master and the Doctor, as they’ve all been in the Kasaavin realm.
Let’s recap all the times we’ve lingered around Byron and the Shelleys this season, shall we? This includes some very brief history lessons, and I will be including links!
Episode 2: Spyfall Part 2
We meet Ada Lovelace, who has a connection to the Kasaavin. She sees them in her dreams, she’s the one to rescue the Doctor from their realm. Brief history lesson: Ada Lovelace was an absolutely BRILLIANT mathematician and the parent of computers. She was also the only legitimate child of Lord Byron and his wife. She died in 1852 at age 36, taken far too young. I’ll post the scene here for benefit:
[Kasaavin realm] ADA: Please be assured all this will pass. I shall be recovered momentarily. DOCTOR: When you say recovered, what do you mean? ADA: The paralysis will fade. DOCTOR: You don't look paralysed. ADA: Not in this realm, but in my earthly aspect. DOCTOR: Right. What's your name? ADA: I am Ada. DOCTOR: And what do you think this realm is, Ada? ADA: I believe it to be my mind. Though I have not met another here before. DOCTOR: Then what do you think I am? ADA: I presume you are a consequence of my thoughts. DOCTOR: No. I'm the Doctor, and I'm very real. But you've been here before? ADA: Many times. When the paralysis subsides, I find myself fully back in my body, restored in the physical realm. If you are real, do you have your own solution for egress from here? DOCTOR: No exit strategy. Before I leave, I need to work out what this place is. Oh! Those fragments of light or energy, why are they surrounding you? ADA: They are always here with me. They place a word in my mind. Kasaavin? (One of the light creatures appears.) DOCTOR: Ada, step away. ADA: Do not be afraid. This is my guardian. DOCTOR: This is their realm. This is where they're from. But how did you bring us here? Unless... You can't be. But you must be. What, gateways? We go through you and arrive in your realm? I say realm. It's not a planet, not really a void. A separate dimension? Are we beyond our... my universe? ADA: Little of what you are saying makes sense to me, but I am concerned you'll be marooned here. When my guardian has returned... DOCTOR: They're not your guardians. ADA: I can offer you my hand. We may leave this place together. DOCTOR: I don't think that will work. ADA: How will you know if you do not try? Decide, Doctor.
Later in the episode:
DOCTOR: If you're Charles Babbage, then you're not just any old Ada. You're Ada Lovelace, daughter of Lord Byron and Annabella Milbanke, one of the great minds. ADA: I am Ada Gordon, madam. DOCTOR: 1834. Of course you are. Well, maybe one day, who knows, you might meet a nice Earl. This changes everything! This isn't an accident. Ada Lovelace in Babbage's house? You're clues. You're important.
Charles Babbage has the Silver Lady (aka the Kasaavin device) in his house, but Ada is the one who has been being visited by them.
DOCTOR: Ada, when was your first paralysis? ADA: I was 13 years old. That is when I was first transported to the place where we met, and I first saw an apparition. DOCTOR: And over the years, the paralysis recurs with the same effect? ADA: Yes. No doctor has ever been able to diagnose the cause. DOCTOR: Well, this Doctor may be able to. An apparition, from this machine. BABBAGE: Correct. DOCTOR: So, they take you, Ada, multiple times from here and they study you in their dimension, which means they can't be in this dimension for long. But maybe they gain an ally, a mastermind who builds them a machine which stabilises them in this world long enough for them to send spies and to spread their work and start a plan. 'Cause I've seen the map in his hut. Multiple Earths. Except not. Not multiple Earths. Multiple time periods. These creatures aren't just alien spies on Earth, they're spies through Time, through history, starting with you.
Or, at the very least, the Doctor assumed they were starting with Ada. Maybe they started earlier - with her parents. Or maybe the Master found out about the events of The Haunting of Villa Diodati with the Cyberium - but we’ll get to that in time.
Again, Spyfall ends with a neat-ish conclusion as to them being focussed on “computing history” and “human DNA”
DOCTOR: I know what this is. A temporal map, showing every significant person in the development of computers through history, starting with you, Ada. This is the plan. See? BOTH: No. ADA: Wh... what is a computer? DOCTOR: Oh, forget you heard that word, otherwise I've just disrupted the whole of history. Again. Okay. Ah, my brain's fizzing. Good. The Kasaavin posted an agent on every person on that map, because that's what spies do, what Barton does. They gather all the data. Where does the DNA fit in? Kasaavin, technology, DNA. How are they all connected? Oh! Human DNA. That's what they were testing.
Episode 8: The Haunting of Villa Diodati
Gif by itberice.
This is the big episode, where I started to notice it especially. Huh, a bit a coincidence they’re doing Byron when Ada was his daughter. Interesting.
DOCTOR: Okay, so there was a spot of rain, and gale-force winds and a super-long walk. But I got us here, didn't I? And Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, soon to be Shelley, screamed in your face. Quality historical experience, that. Gold. YASMIN: (sotto) On that night that inspired Frankenstein. FLETCHER: If... you'd be so kind. GRAHAM: Blimey. DOCTOR: Excuse me, Yaz. I was very clear about the rules. RYAN: Nobody mention Frankenstein, and don't interfere. YASMIN: And nobody snog Byron.
This is because, as Tumblr has already noted, Byron is a thot/fuckboi.
BYRON: She walks in beauty, like the night. DOCTOR: Of cloudless climes and starry skies. BYRON: I'm intensely flattered you're familiar with my work, Mrs Doctor. DOCTOR: Just Doctor is fine. I'm quite into Shelley's stuff too. He about?
Then enters the Lone Cyberman (aka Ashad). It is scouring the villa for Percy, to obtain the Cyberium, and cannot find him. When it starts charging up, it begins to quote Percy’s poetry (specifically Queen Mab book 2 and Queen Mab book 3)
CYBERMAN (glowing with energy): There's not one atom of yon Earth, but once was living man. (Book 2) The sword that stabs his peace; He cherisheth The snakes that gnaw his heart; he raises up the tyrant whose delight Is in his woe. (Book 3)
As the episode progresses, Ashad gets the Cyberium back from Percy (who has been dying with it). Even more interestingly though - the Cyberium wants to choose the Doctor.
DOCTOR: And it chooses me. Interesting. Time Lord magnetism. Looks like I'm the true Guardian. (The Cyberium passes into the Doctor.) CYBERMAN: Surrender it or I will execute you. DOCTOR: I'd be very careful with those execution threats. I can feel it already, fusing to me. It feels very at home. Recognising great host material. Not to big myself up, but I don't think it'll vacate me without a fight.
But now we know - she’s not just a Time Lord. So can the Cyberium sense that? Did it know? Or perhaps, even if she were just a Time Lord, it would have preferred her... Anyway, this deviates too hard into my other, upcoming post. I think this episode, the Villa episode, was VITAL in determining what will happen next season.
Episode 10: The Timeless Children
MASTER: Look upon my work, Doctor, and despair.
This is an homage to Percy Shelley’s sonnet, Ozymandias, which contains the iconic lines:
“My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings; Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair! Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare The lone and level sands stretch far away.”
Oh, cute, what a fun little addition, I first thought when I heard it in the finale. (It now occurs to me, while writing this, that the Master might have quoted Shelley to the Doctor because he knows she loves his work. My poor shipper heart.)
Then I thought - hang on. That’s a lot of “coincidental” involvement with the Byrons & Shelleys in this season, especially when the rest of the plots have been so deftly woven with surprises.
The Master mentions to Ashad/the Cyberium that he has the entire Matrix in his head and then he ends up absorbing the Cyberium into him, linking it with him in ways that will have consequences we haven’t even seen yet. It all sets up such a juicy, interesting thread into the next season.
Summary:
What does it all mean? Who can say? I hope this will give us some answer for what the Kasaavin are, where their universe is (is it beyond the Boundary? is it another Boundary?), how the Master found them (was it in the Matrix? did the Time Lords know about them?)
Most importantly: I think Yaz will play a huge role in the next season, given she was in the Kasaavin realm, as will the Doctor and (I suspect/hope) the Master again. This Kasaavin plot-line is still left unresolved, and I will be incredibly interested to see what Chibnall’s plan contains.
This could all just be a very cute, season-long homage to Byron/Shelley... but... it’s very suspicious. Especially given they have an entire two episodes focussed on them/their progeny.
If anyone has any other examples of Percy & Byron or descendants in season 11/12, please add them through reblogs! :D I worry that I haven’t gotten every single moment, or that I missed a couple of them.

Doctor Who Rewatch Season 12
12x00 Resolution - 3.5/5 : it's so good to see a dalek, i never thought i would ever say this. and this one is particularly creepy. i also really loved the parallel of the dalek rebuilding itself with thirteen making her sonic in the first episode. also UNIT is gone because brexit, iconic. i'm a bit disapointed that it's on earth, again, and the last part of the episode with ryan's dad was kinda too much
12x01 Spyfall 1 - 4.5/5 : so chibs is definitely not playing safe anymore and i LOVE. i'm not really a fam of spy tropes but that was still nice to watch and quite well done. the aliens look cool, yaz gets a bit more focus and obvioulsy that twist
12x02 Spyfall 2 - 3/5 : so that's disappointing and problematic BUT i do like the distance created between the doctor and the companions, thirteen getting darker. i wanted chibs to play it less safe and he delivered so...
12x03 Orphan 55 - 1.5/5 : BENNIIIII god this is a very bleak future for us! all the side characters are soooo annoying
12x04 Nikola Tesla's Night of Terror - 4/5 : tesla and the doctor = bffs. i really like this episode, really well done
12x05 Fugitive of the Judoon - 5/5 : so first the punk rhinos from space are back, then jack and this is not even the biggest thing about this episode. so this was a rollercoster, lots of questions that still need to be answered, jack MUST meet thirteen. i love the distance between the doctor and the companion and the angst. so yeah, i love vinay patel, thank you very much
12x06 Praxeus - 4/5 : i like that thirteen always attracts a lot of people around her. so i really like this episode, the visuals are again very beautiful but there are a lot of little details, of little incoherence that could have been easily corrected and that made some things appear too easy
12x07 Can you Hear Me ? - ?/5 : i'm having a really hard time rating this episode. i liked the immortals (LOVE their style) and the animated bit was gorgeous but they've been banished way too easily, that was quite disappointing, so i really hope we'll see more of them to kinda correct that. As for the depression, fear, doubts theme of the episode, brilliantly carried by Yaz, Tibo and Graham ... it really hits too close to home and i love the idea that dw tackles those issues but ... it makes me feel weird and i really can't grade this one
12x08 The Haunting of Villa Diodati - 4.5/5 : i'll start with the reason this episode doesn't get a five : i'm SPITEFUL. i don't know if big finish is canon at this point but mary shelley was a companion of eight and to be fair, i would have rolled with with an obscure reference or a joke, but no, nothing. APART FROM THAT, this episode is great! the atmosphere of the first part is really well built (and let just acknowledge that graham just totally saw legit ghosts) : it's creepy and funny. and then the lone cyberman appears and everything changes : thirteen finally snapped and it was glorious. and that bill reference, right in the feels
12x09 Ascension of the Cybermen - 4/5 : so so so i like the two distinct plots : the cybermen on one hand and brendan in ireland (?) on the other, and the fact that they have absolutely no apparent link (i thought at first that the brendan plot was related to the lone cyberman but no). talking about the lone cyberman : I LIKE. i already liked him in the previous episode, which i forgot to mention, but yeah, after the finale of the season 10, that's the second arc in which the cybermen are somewhat cool and threatening, so that's a win. the doctor and ryan are not really central this episode but that's ok : graham and yaz are a good duo (not so sure about the other characters though). and the master is back so that's always good to take. anyways, it's a good episode (i really liked the scene at the beginning with the cybermen heads attack) with a good hype but there are still little things bothering me (the side characters mainly)
12x10 The Timeless Children - 4/5 : let's start with the negative : the last part is quite rushed, the cyber timelords have zero use and the old guy destroying the master and the cybermen came out of nowhere. i would have preferred if the doctor had just ran away, letting the master and the cyber time lords to be the villains for next season. Apart from that, that's a great episode : the master, the part with the doctor and the master in the matrix, ruth doctor, the companions vs the cybermen, yaz and graham's talk, it was all really well done. and i like all the references : the cyber army and the master (season 8), the hybrid (season 9), “have a great life” and the doctor sending the companions back to earth alone (season 1), cyberman!bill crying and yaz crying inside the cyberman suit (season 10), “For Gallifrey, for victory, for the end of time itself” (without T.Dalton spit) (season 4) and probably loads more that i missed Overall opinion : i'm really happy with this season : i like all the new things introduced this season (new master, timeless child, the shift in the doctor/companion relationship, JACK), i like the risks that have been taken and which were missing last season, i like thirteen getting darker while fundamentally remaining this bubbly little alien. graham gets less focus, which allows us to learn a bit more about yaz but i still can't really get ryan and that's a shame, especially if he leaves in the special. as for the timeless child, i'm all for it. i really love that we add a layer a mystery around the doctor and it gets me very excited for what's coming next. and there are still a lot of things to explain (why a pre-One version of the doctor is called doctor, why the phone box tardis, ...) but i'm sure we'll get answers.
What's next ? Sooo as I said, I'm really looking forward to knowing more about that timeless child thingy, so i surely hope this will come back but not in a twisted over complicated way à la Moffat. I hope we'll see Dhawan!Master again because he's great and that we’ll have an explanation for the complete overlooking of missy’s redemption arc. For the special : better have Jack in it, otherwise I'll riot. It's interesting that Ryan and Graham are leaving but it makes sense for them, and with Yaz staying (?), it'll bring a new dynamic to the tardis which is always good. I'd like to have another companion, but no more. Three are way too much! And give me a multi-doctors episodes with Eight PLEASE
