What is the function of the different machines in Pokémon centers?
it really depends on what kind of pokemon center you go to and in what region! center tech develops at a pretty fast rate, and not every pokemon center is equipped with the same stuff. here's a list of some of the more common things you might find!
healing machine: every pokemon center has this one! this machine is used to speed up the recovery rate of pokemon who are tired from battle or who have minor injuries. they're operated by a nurse with the medical training to input what each pokemon needs or refer the trainer to a vet.
tm machine: these are all over our express centers in paldea. put in materials and pay a small fee, and the machine spits out a tm for you!
pc system: these are getting to be less common, but in regions with less intense electronic infrastructure, pc systems give you access to pokemon and item storage. they're integrated with the new wireless system a lot of regions are using, so you can still log into your account if you find one!
cable club machine: back when trading was more energy intensive and many people didn't have great internet connections, these machines could be used to trade pokemon with other trainers or do simulation battles on programs like showdown. most of these have gone obsolete, but if you find a center with one, you can do some sim matches.
union circle rooms: these rooms were lined with VR sensors and could be used to talk to and play games with trainers across the world...but they were expensive to maintain and didn't see a ton of use after they were first implemented. kind of sad because they sound fun! some of them still have local use i think?
berry crush machine: crush berry. get powder. i think these only saw any real use in hoenn. they aren't around much anymore.

Alright, so @mayameanderings asked the question what my mutuals would be as pokemon trainers (specifically gym leaders) and then @insomniac-jay suggested I would be an electric/steel/fairy type gym leader whose gym is located in a power plant. Genuinely, I love that idea so much so here is a little thought experiment about that.
In this hypothetical game, the player would go to the city I am located in. I like to imagine a rough St. Louis parody with an out of its way power plant with a one-way route to get there (as in you must traverse the route to get there and traverse the same route to get back). So, the player goes to the local gym only to learn from one of those gym people that I am out of town on my job at the power plant so the player has to go through the power plant route.
The player then would use the power plant as the pseudo-gym, shutting down operation and battling my colleagues to get the main office where I am eating lunch. Once I catch the player, the player is put through the safety lecture of a lifetime, but since the player is there and they've shut down operations I agree to a gym battle.
My battle theme would be metallic with with the clicking noise of mechanical interlocks and the hum of a live wire.
I would go with variations of the above team, and they all have leftovers because fuck the player for interrupting my lunch break. Also, I would have medication for every status effect imaginable particularly paralyze heals and burn heals.
Once done, I give the Electrical Power Badge, which looks like a copper wire wrapped around screwdriver. Then, the player would receive my trainer card which would detail my certifications, the fact I am a proud member of a union, and both my business numbers. Finally, the TM for Volt Switch. Then an alarm would sound, which signifies the end of my lunch break so I give the player my leftovers too before I go back to work. If the player tries to talk to me again, it will be many variations.
Guess it is time to go back to work...
I need to up security again, fucking trainers.
I miss my spouse.
Did I take my ADHD medication this morning?
...What are you still doing here? Get.
Then the player would leave to continue the story.
Once the player beats the post-game, re-battling the gym leaders opens up but not only re-battling the gym leaders with their full gym team but battling the gym leaders off-duty.
The player can enter and go through my gym properly (with the trainers still retaining the leveling the player would have been at the time). My proper gym would be an off-shoot of a great community training and skill-builder center (which would have training machines the player could learn to make, trade, and buy), where I teach about electrical energy and the gym trainers are students. Naturally, the fight at the end would be my full electric/steel team where I am about to leave for lunch.
Bonus Dialogue:
Alright, back to class.
Shit, I need to print more badges.
My re-certification test is coming up soon.
I wonder if my mother has seen the latest episode yet.
...What are you still doing here? Are you interested in a class?
The alternative is the player going to a stadium in the city where a rock concert is being set up. There, the player would catch me off-duty helping my father, uncle, and cousin with setting up the concert. My sprite would be completely different as I would be out of my work attire and dressed for a concert. Due to this, a revenge battle gym is impossible as my gym team is helping set-up and power the concert. However, I fight the trainer with my off-duty team which consists of:
Objectively, this team is worse but this is meant to be a fun battle rather than a challenging one. The player would see the more fleshed-out updated sprite, and my battle theme would change! Instead of metal, it would be rolled back to more classic rock with the clicking of interlocks replaced with the clicking of a pen and the buzz of a live wire replaced with the buzzing of insects.
Yes, this team has leftovers because in real life I am always snacking. Afterwards, I would invite the player to attend the concert and treat the player to food saying I am about to give them the best beverage and give them "Moomoo Milk". Of course, the fanbase would be disgusting about this.
Unfortunately for them, I happen to like milk.
Bonus Dialogue
You might think I only like rock music, but I love all music. It doesn't matter the genre, language, or time period, as long as it sounds good it goes on my playlist.
Seriously, I just like milk.
This stadium has seen many concerts, and the lighting and sound design has always been left to my father to complete.
Seriously, I just like milk.
Fine, milk is one of the only three beverages my body doesn't violently reject. Are you happy now to carry a piece of my medical history?
Surprisingly, this isn't the last time the player would see me as if they go to a previous gym, an animation/art studio, they would see me picking up the grass/bug-type gym leader (my spouse) for a date after the post-canon grass/bug type gym battle. :)

Tumblr Plays Pokemon White 2- Part 11
While on my way to beat up some weirdo cosplayer I met in a sewer who should I run into but Bianca!
She said she saw me in the city and had to catch up to me. She winds up giving me, of all things, a dowsing machine. I'd read about these. Supposedly they can help you find dropped items. After all trainers go all over the place and even pokemon drop stuff. The dowsing machine is supposed to help you find stuff like that. HOnestly, I'm not against the idea. Espeically since I've heard of people making some really good money using dowsing machines! I can only hope it'll benefit me here.
Before I head onto the route the clown guy gives me a rare candy for completing their scavenger hunt. Guess that was worth soemthing after all.
Anyway with that I head out onto Route 4....
Where it is LITERALLY sandstorming!
And I JUST showered back at the Pokemon Center too!
Seriously Bianca couldn't have said something?! Just a, "Hey, heads up theres a sand storm out there!" would have been appreciated!
UGH.
I turn on the dowsing machine. If I GOTTA move through all this sand, I might as well see if I can find any treasure. There are obviously trainers here too. OH well. Lets see what our new friend Dusty can do!
The answer is, not a lot actually. Despite the sandstorm giving her a speed boost she still got taken out by the first pokemon of the first trainer we faced on the route. Oh well, I probably should have predicted something like that. After all we did JUST catch her.
That Colress guy running his mouth probbaly put ideas into my head.
Bentley is more than enough to take the Sandile out after Dusty did a bit of damage to it. Though unlike Dusty the sandstorm hurts him. Even so, its pretty clear that Bentley will be essential if I'm going to deal with all the ground types out here in the desert. Which is why I swap him out for Molly to take out the trainers herdier.
After the battle I give Dusty a revive. Even if shes not qutie strong enough to take out a ton of opponents yet, shes still the only one on the team resistent to the sand storm. I grab the exp. share I got earlier and give it to Dusty. If Dusty, if it works like its supposed to then Bentley should be able to win a few fights and Dusty can get some of the experience.
Oh Arceus the weirdo sewer guy has blocked the road.
That's not reassuring.
I mean... to the side of you but yeah. Did you move a bunch of rocks in the way?
Colress explains that these are actually Pokemon who are called crustle. He uses some weird device to wake them up and get them off the road.
Not gonna lie, seems mighty suspect this guy just so happens to have a device that magically clears the road.
Then outta friggin nowhere this guy mentions team plasma like its the name of his favorite coffee place.
Yeah and your not getting it! I dont need you looking up my address in the phone book!
Your a lousy conversationalist Colress.
Colress starts off with Magnemite and since Bentley was already out teaching Dusty hes up first. I start off with leech seed hoping it'll do something and magnemite hits me wtih thunderwave.
Hey! thats MY strategy!
Regardless I had bentley use leech see which helps counteract the damage from the sand storm. I send in Dusty hoping her ground type attack will do something to magnemite. Mudslap is actually very effective, but so is magnet bomb agianst Dusty, Leech seed heals her up by not by a lot. I have her use mudslap again which nearly takes magnemite out but it uses magnet bomb again and nearly KOs Dusty. Thankfully the sandstorm does the rest for us and buffs magnemite into defeat.
Colress then sounds out Klink. Deciding Dustycould use the training I give her a water and have her face off against Klink. Klink uses gear grind on Dusty which takes her out.
Bad call on my part.
I send in Molly to melt that metal which she does but not before getting hit with a thundershock and buffested by the sandstorm.
With that though I do beat Colress.
He gives me a bottle of 'protein'
This is getting sold the first chance I get. Make someone else deal with it. He blabs on something about if only we could talk to pokemon we could bring out all their power and then runs off into the desert.
Like I said.
CREE-PY.
After getting my butt kicked by a few trainers I find a rest house amongst the old ruins. THe lady inside heals me up and offers to continue doing so. Now that I have a place on the route to heal up, its training time!
I fight all of the trainers around the area, taking rests at the old ruin when I need a break or one of my pokemon faints. The net result is that Dusty and the others manage to gain some levels and learn some new moves. Most notably Dusty learns dig and Polux learns covet. Not a lot of improvement but good enough.
I move on.
This must be the road into Nimbasa. Happy to finally find it. I cant even see five feet in front of me in this sandstorm.
Huh theres a lot of sand around the entrance to Nimbasa. Would've thought they'd clear that out. Oh well.
Ah the gate to Nimbasa. Good thing too, its getting dark. First thing I'm gonna do is find a hotel room, have a nice hot bath, and reeeeelax.

Fire Red Z, Part 5: Rainbow
Last time, on Fire Red Z! I had just arrived in Cerulean City for the second time (more like tenth) and prepared to head east.
Let’s see what misfortune befell our protagonist on their way through Rock Tunnel...
Route 9 was a breeze, with plenty of trainers to keep my team nice and healthy. We caught a new Rattata, “Spruce“, who immediately got boxed. Spruce will survive, mark my words.
After getting through that maze of rocks, it was off to Route 10, where we caught Sycamore the Spearow (grumble grumble wish it was a Voltorb), then took a nice rest in the conveniently placed pokemon center. After that, it was off to Rock Tunnel. Who needs Flash, anyways?
Banyan the Mankey was caught, placed in the party to level up, then immediately died to a Magnitude 8 Geodude. Banyan is definitely going down in the record books for quickest death.
It was at this point that I realized my team was horrendously underleveled and I had essentially suffered a Cerulean again. But I knew grinding wild pokemon would take forever (and was starting to grind my nerves). Thus, I returned to places I had visited before, to seek out trainers who would be worthy to face me again.
After much searching, I came to the realization that the best XP was right in front of me, in the rocks of Route 9. Me and the trainers, especially that fellow with the two Beedrills, battled for endless days and nights (a long morning). Lotus evolved into Gyadrados and was taught Water Pulse, giving me some relief (and type coverage) for the long trek ahead.
With the team prepared, Wheat was placed at the front, Repels were stocked, and we ventured into Rock Tunnel. We fought out way through with bountiful caution, eventually making it out the other side in one piece. The team had gained some good XP in the tunnel, especially Wheat, putting them in the 26-28 level range (except Wheat, who was level 31).
We stopped in Lavender Town to heal up, then headed to Pokemon Tower to pay our respects to the dearly departed members of our team. Rose, Juniper, Wisteria, and now Banyan. Lost, but never forgotten. While there, we ran into Green, who didn’t disclose his reasons, but was missing his Raticate...
Regardless, we battled, as we always do. Ginger took down Pidgeotto, as usual. Meanwhile, Catnip took out both Kadabra (again) and Exeggcute with Bite. Lotus cleaned up Charmeleon. Gyarados, as it turned out, was tougher than I expected; I lacked any electric moves to take it down quick. Ultimately, Wheat outlasted it.
We headed west from there, as I wasn’t about to go grave-robbing right now, heading onto Route 8 and dealing with its deluge of trainers. Also, the rarely seen pure poison types they carried! We almost had a Growlithe, but it Roared and got away. Not wanting to lose my second chance at a Growlithe, we pushed on through Route 7 to Celadon City.
As trainers, there’s only one place we’re interested in, above department stores and slot machines: the gym! Willow was raring to go as we entered, but I had a bad feeling.
A good chunk of my team was underleveled for the strongest pokemon I’d be facing and I wasn’t bringing any fodder or backup like another flying type or a fire type. Had I gotten that Growlithe, you’d better believe I’d have ground the heck out of it in prep.
But Willow Wing Attacked his way through all the gym trainers, one and two shotting everything he came in conflict with. I don’t even think he took damage before we faced Erika.
The bad feeling came back as we stood across the room from Erika, as if she was daring me to come at her with my overconfidence. Two of her three pokemon had access to poison moves, which made me worry more, since Willow had a bad track record when it comes to fighting grass/poison types. He always ends up poisoned if they get a chance to pull off a turn.
I put on Wildfire and said “Fuck it!” and challenged her.
I really don’t know why I was so worried. Willow had gotten a bunch of levels from fighting the rest of the gym, which meant all three of Erika’s team were two shot by his Wing Attacks. All he took in return was a couple hits of Acid, which barely bothered him. Rainbow Badge acquired!
Now that that’s taken care of, I hear there’s shopping and video games in this town! I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt to at least check it out...
I wonder what all these Rocket grunts are doing in town, anyways?

Hydroelectric rocket science Part 2
(the two stared at each with confusion and shock before wyrdo shouted)
THE FRAG ARE YOU DOING HERE!?
"NO THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING HERE YOU WASHED UP MOTOR ENGINE?!" Roya screamed
OI NOW I DIDN'T COME HERE AGAINST MY OWN WILL, I JUST WANTED TO BE FIXED AND GET BACK TO WHERE I CAME FROM! SO WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS WHAT AND WHY ARE YOU HERE!? Wyrdo snapped back at the coated woman
"I JUST WANTED TO MAKE MYSELF A NEW LIFE YA PILE OF BLUE SCRAP!"
Well good for you Miss PRICK. BUT THAT DOESN'T EXPLAIN WHY THE-
(the 2 bickered at each other for over a minute while the cacturne, the odd looking vespiquen, and the nurse just looked at the 2 before nurse joy sighed and then shouted)
"QUIET!!!"
(both the robot and trainer jumped (with wyrdo's head hopping) from the sudden shout of the nurse before bowing their heads)
"Sorry!"
I apologize...
(The nurse just rubbed her temples before speaking again)
"Now then miss Roya I know that you and Wyrdo here have a... Complicated relationship between you both but please don't fight while there are Pokemon healing still."
"Yeah I'll simmer down then. Wait shouldn't they be done healing as of now?"Roya questioned
"About that... Wyrdo's team here got quite the nasty injuries here, I'm afraid it'll take a couple hours for them to heal. " The nurse joy rubbed her head as she answered
"Damn..." Roya cursed
(Both she and her Pokemon make a groaning sound as they walked and float off to the side, she then began to look at the machine then the currently in pieces robot)
"Wait what even in the distortion world happened to you that led up to well.... that?" Roya gestures to the mess that is wyrdo
It's a long story for me Roya, but to put it short. I picked a fight with an evil team admin and blew up after overloading my HED and knocking all of my heavily injured team into the ocean with me in the process and here I am now. Washed up here. Wyrdo tiredly responed
"Damn I never thought you would be that reckless but here I am seeing your aftermath." Roya amused
Very funny. Wyrdo deadpanned
Anyways I need to find the gym leader here to help me with my situation but me and my team that was carrying me went to here 1st since I wanted them to be patched up. The problem is that I don't have a way to get around until my team is ready to go again.
(Roya looked at the speaking Wyrdo with a contemplating look before she side and then picked up wyrdo's head)
Oi what are ya doin!?
"Don't mistake this for me doing this as a friend or anything, I just want you to be gone as soon as possible, water bucket. You two help me out with this grab the parts of this scrap heap. " Roya quickly replied with a little less fierceness in her tone as she walked out of the center.
Hmph figures you would say that. Wyrdo remarked with less aggression in his robotic tone
(the vespiquen and cacturne looked at each other before groaning In irritation and grabbing the other parts of wyrdo's body and walked alongside with her. Well that was until nurse joy spoke up again holding several full restores in her hands)
Wait miss Roya may I offer you a few free full restores for your troubles and delay?
"...sure I'll take em. Actually can you spray those 2 with them and I'll take the last one in my bag." Roya answered
(the nurse nodded and did her work with the 2 Pokemon, and then gives the last restore to Roya, who grabs it with her free hand and puts it in a slingbag she was holding and then left with her companions and wyrdo's parts)

Hello! I loved the hc of gholdengo not wanting to go to the pokemon center.. so can you do hcs of how that whole ordeal could unfold? (Like from the start of the day to then feeling better at the end?)
Omg yeah. I'm currently working my way up to getting a Gholdengo (I got like 200-something coins as of typing this,,,,yippee)
........
Imagine it taking you forever to get all 999 Gimmighoul coins...but your hard work pays off as you finally get to evolve your little Gimmighoul into a Gholdengo.
They prove to be quite awesome in comparison to their cowardly first stage, always hiding in their chest and blending in. Now they were riding around on a skateboard, loud and proud.
You two became best buds fast, crushing any trainers who thought to stand in your way.
Unfortunately, since Gholdengos were such a rarity in Paldea, their trainers were often envied for being rich. So you’ve met a lot of jealous people in your travels.
Even ordinary residents would approach you, asking how much they’re worth or if you’re willing to trade.
And that makes Gholdengo quite insecure, worried that you’ll find a better Pokémon one day and sell them. Though at the time, they’re too prideful to admit this.
But when they get hurt in battle, you need to take them to a Pokémon Center...and they do not like how the PokeMart salesman stares at them as you’re approaching.
So rather than listen to you and get back in their pokeball, they show defiance by collapsing into a pile of Gimmighoul coins, scattering themselves everywhere.
You were stressing fr because their pokeball wouldn’t accept them in this state (bc technically they're now TM Materials and you can't shove those into one).
So you scrambled to find a container to put them in--praying no wild Pokémon scurried off with a single coin lest you lose Gholdengo forever--and hauled ass to the Pokémon Center.
“Welcome, Champion [Y/n]! Are your Pokémon in need of......?” The lady’s usual speech trails off as you set the coins on the table, huffing and puffing.
“Yes, this is a Gholdengo in need of healing. They’re just...shy.”
It’s an awkward situation to explain (even baffling the TM Machine), but in the end you get a max potion and set up a picnic somewhere quiet, pouring the coins onto the table before spraying them.
Then suddenly, Gholdengo reforms like nothing even happened.
You just scowled at them, disappointed. “Why did you do that? I hope you know you made me look ridiculous in front of them.”
Yet you calm down when they finally admit how scared they were of being sold, feeling guilty for angering you.
But since you understand where they’re coming from, you reassure them that you won’t be selling them anytime soon.
Of course, you didn’t struggle to find 999 coins just to give them all up for regular money.
“If any of those salesmen stare at you next time..I’ll just sell ‘em a fake nugget.” You joked, which makes Gholdengo smile, relieved you wanted to keep them.
To make up for the stress they caused you, they’ll let you teach them whatever new moves you believed were best for them, and ultimately they became your ace.
And if anyone tries asking you how much they’re worth?
You’ll tell them to screw off and get a Meowth instead if they want money so bad.

pokemon scarlet and violet spoilers: that said, even if all the pokemon arrived by being brought back in master balls, they also all are considered wild ones. Like they escaped/left them eventually, so it might be an incredibly potent catch and release type of event.
Like, you need to catch something immediately to get them medical care/get samples for research, and then you flee. if it stays with you because it trusts you/is curious about you/is fine with this afterwards, then Fantastic. But theres no certainty, except perhaps for a short time.
I still feel there might be things like those people who take pride in living 'naturally', where they don't use Pokeballs when traveling/befriending their pokemon. Usually treating it like an extreme hobby, which might not actually be accurate to the world they live in. If not outright foolish/dangerous, and some sort of romanticized take on the idea of not having pokeballs.
Continuation of this ask
Good thoughts OP! Especially with the people who take pride in living naturally. It could be a bit misguided, or being done more for romanticized/extreme reasons than for actually considering what the Pokémon prefers.
In the games at least, your pokemon are managed by plugging pokeballs into a machine at a pokemon center, and healing them from there. It's very fast, efficient, and free. If you don't have your pokemon "captured", you can't put them in there, obviously. I'm sure Pokémon centers can still heal pokemon without putting their pokeballs into a machine (we have potions!!), but it will take longer, actually requires time-consuming treatment, and will cost money.
And someone could just come along and catch your pokemon?? any of the villain organizations are open to doing that too.

Oh and im making this into a two part mini fanfic—
╞═════𖠁𐂃𖠁═════╡
Gallade carefully held your hand as he leads you to the nearest pokemon center in Hammerlocke; the knight-like pokemon made sure you took your steps correctly as one of his hands were on your back, supporting you.
You were thankful that your mom gave you Ralts when you were a little kid, in which ralts evolved into a male kirlia when your mom accidentally exposed it to a dawn stone. Nonetheless, it didn't stop you from giving him the same love and affection as you did before— Gallade grew fond of you too as he watches you grow up into a bright individual, not losing hope even if you've lost your sense of sight from the moment you were born.
Many memories were made ever since then, especially when you participated in the gym challenge together with your trusted pokemon. Some challengers you've met immediately looked down on you the first time they saw you, and some are quite the opposite, treating you kindly and competing with you healthily. Luckily, your Gallade is always there to protect you if someone ever dares to lay a finger on you, same with your bestfriend Hop.
You're just grateful that you didn't have to go through this alone, yknow?
But, apparently the environment in the Dragon Type Gym wasn't that friendly, and it didn't go well. Before you started you challenge with the dragon tamer himself, you were challenged by a group of teens, who obviously looked down on you since they noticed that you weren't 'normal'; the battle itself was gruelling, but Gallade manages to bring you back to safety, along with Gardevoir.
Before the battle, the group of teens muttered harsh words about you, speaking about how you shouldn't advance forwards to the next gym leader since that its evident on how defeat is imminent considering your conditions.
However, you were somewhat used to these type of insults ever since you were a child. Your bullies helped you in the process of toughening up yourself, and you did it quite well— it's just that one of them said something in particular which leads to you feeling empty and.. hopeless.
Gallade took a notice in your behavior and decided that he will give your opponent no mercy in the battle afterwards, Gardevoir agreed on helping him too, seeing you feeling down because of their simple words and stingy mouths.
They then tried cheering you up when the battle ended, you replied with a soft smile and told your pokemon that you're going to be alright, and that they should focus on the oncoming match with the dragon type gym leader himself.
Gardevoir went back into your pokeball as Gallade stayed outside, guiding you to the pokemon center.
╞═════𖠁𐂃𖠁═════╡
Back to the present, you got all your pokemon healed up and everything was back to normal. Though you wasn't sure if Gallade was alright since he stayed outside this whole time to help you get where you are.
"Gallade, do you need to recover?" You said as your hand tried to reach the pokemon's shoulder, and the knight-like pokemon was quick to hold your hand and lead it to where his shoulder was, followed by a cheerful sound emitted from the pokemon himself. He seemed like he didn't need to recover, hence he lets out that sound from earlier; you only laughed and gave his shoulder a light pat, muttering a trail of soft 'okay's afterwards.
Even so, you tried to take out a few of the snacks you bought from the vending machine, rummaging through your bag as you relied on you sense of touch to find the said item. After awhile, you felt your hand pressing on the texture of what it seems to be a plastic; you made sure it was the correct item you was going for, shaking it twice before finally taking it out of your bag.
You gave your pokemon the snack, accompanied with a bright grin. Even if you're not able to see your Gallade's reactions, you could feel him happily accepting the snack you gave him and tearing it open, immediately munching on the food.
Well, as long your pokemon is happy, you're happy too.
While Gallade was busy enjoying himself with his snack, you walked around the pokemon centre, trying to find a seat to put your bag down and take a moment to relax yourself. You knew walking around yourself anywhere was a bad idea when you didn't have your guide pokemon with you, but you did it anyways, wanting to be independent for once and not trouble your pokemon. Gallade already did so much for you, its only fair that you shouldn't trouble him when you got the chance, after all, its only the pokemon centre, how hard can it be to find a seat? Surely its there, somewhere.
You began taking small steps with your hand reaching out infront of you, making sure you wouldn't bump onto a wall or something while you were walking. "So far so good" you said to yourself as you wandered around the area, not bumping into anyone or anything.
Your hand was touching the wall for support, while the other one was facing down, trying to grasp the texture of a table....if you ever managed to find one, that is.
But apparently, all you found was a person as you bumped into their side, or assumingly it was their side; your sudden act of foolishness was followed by a sound of 'oof' coming from your side, and a sound of "ah?" From their side, probably from not expecting this happening.
"Im so sorry" you apologized as you looked up, trying to angle your head to face their own gaze. You assumed the person was taller than you since most of the people you met are taller than you. Gallade finally picked up on what's happening and rushed to your side, apologizing too in your stead and hoping that the person would understand your condition.
The person, luckily, said it was alright and it wasn't a big deal— though Gallade thought the person was familiar from hearing Hop's stories back then. The pokemon looked at you, then looked back at the person, wondering if his guesses was correct; the Duralodon beside him was also curious after watching Gallade's behavior.
Duraludon notices that you were wearing the challenger uniform, in which it immediately informed it's trainer.
"Dura duraaa!!" It chirped as the man looked at it, then looking at your direction.
A grin then appeared on his lips as he began to notice your uniform too "Oh, you're a challenger?" He asked you in a relaxed tone; a huff of relief pass your lips as you thanked Arceus that the man wasn't mad for your foolish behavior. You then immediately answered him
"Yes! I am!"
You were happy that they didn't leave a harsh comment on how you were lacking one of your senses too, in which most people do the first second they notice it.
The man then proceeded on taking a card from his pocket and handed it to you. Of course you didn't understand anything that's happening for obvious reasons, but Gallade helped you by taking the card from him and giving it to you.
This made the man confused; why didn't you take his card? Why did your pokemon take it instead? Though it might be an impolite question to ask in the first time of meeting someone, he felt like he should ask, just to prevent future miscommunications and other unpleasant things from happening.
"My apologies if this sounded rude but," here it goes, you heard the first sentence and braced yourself to answer it the moment the person finishes it. "Are you visually impaired?" He asked politely, and he didn't even use the word 'Blind'!! This just shows how much he was trying to not disrespect you and ask in the most polite way.
The man's words made you feel happy and glad that he tried to be polite to you— polite to someone who's assumingly younger than him. You then replied with a nod as Gallade chirped beside you as if he's thanking the man infront of you from not disrespecting his trainer.
Duraludon seemed happy too after finding out your condition, it was accepting and welcoming, much like it's trainer.
He then muttered "Ah i see i see" after getting your response. Maybe you thought that the man was thinking about how it was quite rare to see a challenger like yourself, visually impaired and all of that, needing a guide pokemon to help you in your daily life— and here you are, living and breathing like the others. There's nothing different about you really, its just that people failed to see that and often take the action on bullying you because you were lacking one of your senses.
"Well then,"
The man spoke once again as you looked at him on the face, letting him know that you're listening to him.
"I'm Raihan, nice to meet you"

Bright Eyes, pt 2
Red was light on his feet as he bounded into the Pokemon center for the first time in what felt like a decade or more. The bright smile on the trainer's face wasn't lost on the Nurse Joy who took his pokemon from him for a moment, remembering his anxious and weary look from when he stopped by earlier in his trip.
"Your adventure going along well?" She asked, making small talk as she loaded the pokeballs into the machine, checking over Pikachu who refused to go inside his ball as per usual.
Red nodded enthusiastically in return, practically bouncing on his heels. "[I found exactly who I needed,]" he answered, not needing to get into any more details than that. He was offered a congratulations, assured that his Pokemon were all fighting fit once more, then dashed out the door without a word. He practically felt like a kid again.
Up the stairs to the hotel room he was staying at, Red didn't pause to talk to anyone. That was pretty common with trainers, but typically only from those still new on their journeys, or with places to be. Though, to be fair, Red did have places to be.
Once in his room, Red set Pikachu gently down on the bed, both trainer and Pokemon grinning like they were kids at Christmas. Red released Jess from her ball, who took a moment to stretch her legs before turning to look inquisitively at her trainer. Pikachu helpfully explained that she was about to meet their newest team member, and that they were going to explain the plan to them and see if they agreed to it. Jess bounced from paw to paw excitedly, before sitting down and staring directly at the pokeball on the bed.
Hardly holding back excitement, Red took his notebook from his bag, and set it on the bed as well, where Pikachu picked it up. Then, the battle-worn trainer gently pressed the button on the ball, letting their new companion out and into the room.
The newcomer rubbed his eyes, still new to the feeling of being materialized. As he adjusted, he looked up to see his new trainer, and his new teammates. He started at first, seeing Jess, but the older Pikachu explained quickly that she was part of the team, and part of the welcoming party.
A few things to start off! Pikachu chattered to the newcomer, who sat in rapt attention, eyes wide. This, he said, gesturing to his partner, is Red! He's our human. He doesn't use humanspeak the same way a lot of them do, but hand-humanspeak, because he doesn't make a lot of sound. You'll learn it eventually, but until then I can tell you what he's saying! He's my best friend, and we can talk to each other without using any kind of speak.
The newcomer nodded, and asked if he could one day learn to talk to Red without using speak. Pikachu thought for a moment, before shaking his head.
Probably not, he admitted, as Red went to get a chair to sit down. Looming over the two while Pikachu talked made him feel weird. Pikachu continued, We can only do it because of something bad that happened to us, that linked our minds. But you'll be able to read his hand-humanspeak, and he can understand pokespeak just fine.
Nervously, the new teammate asked if Red could understand what he was saying just then. Red nodded with a kind smile. The smaller pikachu looked up at Red, and offered a shy wave, trying to keep both Red and Pikachu in his focus now.
Pikachu continued. Now that you're part of the team, let me tell you about some of the things we do. He flipped open the notebook, searching for the page where the plans were doodled. He couldn't read any human languages, but that's why the plan was drawn instead of written. As he looked, he kept speaking.
Back before I decided to stay a Pikachu forever, every few months Red and I would talk about if it was time to evolve. That's where you come in, if you want to. We're never going to ask you to do something like that if you aren't ready. Pikachu reached the page, and laid the notebook in front of the newcomer, six little pokemon doodles on the page. Clearly, there was one for Jess, and the Pikachu was very obviously meant to be the one standing before the newcomer now.
This is the team that we're planning, Pikachu explained. Raichu that evolve here in Alola look different, and are different, than ones that evolve anywhere else in the world. He tapped the paper, where a rough approximation of a Raichu was. Red was not an artist. That's why we came here, to get a Pikachu who would want to evolve into one of these special Raichu. And we found you! But if you decide you're not ready, or don't want to, we won't be disappointed at all. It's totally up to you, okay?
The newcomer's eyes absolutely lit up. He was caught for a purpose other than just his shiny fur. He'd run so many times from trainers just seeking him as a trophy, people who would just put him in a box to look at and brag about, he'd overheard them talking about it. But this was different! He was wanted because he could be special in other ways! He grinned and wiggled excitedly, and nodded.
Then the newcomer paused, before speaking up. I'll do it, but on one condition!
Pikachu folded his arms, not sure about the new guy making demands so early, but wasn't about to shoot him down just yet. Okay, he began, what's the condition?
The orange-tinted pokemon grinned, and perked up. Only if you be my mentor! You have to promise!
Is that all? Pikachu grinned, and offered the newcomer his tail to shake. You've got a deal! He chirped. The younger pokemon linked tails and shook, cheeks faintly sparking in excitement. When they broke apart, Pikachu stepped away, giving the newcomer plenty of space. The younger pokemon even backed up a few steps, and looked up at Red expectantly.
Red, on cue, reached into his bag. The stone he pulled out was old and worn, something he'd been carrying around for the better half of a decade, just in case. Finally, it was time for it to be put to use. Red set the stone down on the bed, in front of his new companion.
"[Whenever you're ready,]" Red signed, Pikachu translating for him.
The newcomer looked intensely at the stone, then up at his new friends. He took a deep breath, stepped forward, and put a paw to the stone.
The room filled with light. The sight of evolution, something Red hadn't seen in a very, very long time in his isolation, was something he would always find incredible. He forced himself not to squint in the light, wanting to see every moment of the event.
Soon, the light faded, and there the newcomer stood, slowly opening his eyes from the blinding light he had emitted. Once orange-tinted fur, now a dark chocolate, and once dark eyes gone now a bright, shining blue. He adjusted to the new shift in perspective, suddenly near double his previous height, looking down at his mentor, nervous to hear what he thought.
What Pikachu thought, at first, was not even his own thought. What Pikachu first thought was, Oh my god, he's so cute, he looks like a chocolate biscuit. That, of course, was Red's thought, loud and intense as the trainer struggled to not burst into tears on the spot. Pikachu just grinned, and sent back a thought in return.
Why don't we ask if that's what he'd like to be called?
Thats an AMAZING idea.
Pikachu aproached his new mentee, and put a hand on his arm- he was too short to put one on his shoulder. You look great! He chirped, and the newcomer relaxed visibly. Red has started giving the pokemon he teams up with nicknames, and he wants to know if you were okay with going by Biscuit! He says you look like one, and it's cute.
The newcomer- Biscuit- grinned and nodded enthusiastically. He liked the name, he liked being appreciated, and he liked the way everyone looked at him not as a thing but as a real, living being. He liked the way Red was bouncing excitedly, twisting his hands around in place just looking at him. He was a companion, he had a name he wasn't a trophy but part of a team! It was more than he had ever dreamed of, and he'd been with them for less than half a day.
Biscuit looked at Pikachu, and smiled. What's your nickname, then? He asked.
Pikachu shook his head with a grin and slightly puffed out his chest, single ear tall and proud. I'm just Pikachu! The one and only! Red reached over and gave Pikachu an affectionate pet, and the pokemon chattered happily.
The trainer held out his free arm wide, offering Biscuit a chance to come in for a hug. The newly evolved pokemon accepted enthusiastically, running into Red's arms and snuggling against his chest. Jess, in turn, snuggled up against Red's side, as Pikachu moved from his position being pet, up onto his rightful perch on Red's shoulder.
There was warmth, love, and healing in that room. Red was moving on. Moving forward. Pikachu was going back once again to teaching a pokemon the ropes, mentoring as head of a team. Biscuit was moving into a team, a family, that loved him already, adopting him into the fold not for his special coloring, not as a trinket to brag about, but because they wanted him for him. And Jess, well. She was experiencing community, bonds that so few of her kind experienced in all their lifetime.
For the first time in a long time, each of them felt whole.

Hello. I go by 202 and I just paid for a request. I’m a gentle, softhearted person who feels at my best when helping others. I am quiet and timid around new people, but affectionate and supportive once I open up. I’m also docile, responsible, and good at following orders. I a healing from past trauma and anxiety issues and I am driven to aid others in their recovery using the experiences I’ve gleaned. (1/?)
(202) I care deeply for those close to me and would sacrifice a lot for them. I can be stubborn, though. I like to stick to my routines and become anxious when things change suddenly and without warning. I am able to adapt quickly if necessary, but it does take a toll on my wellbeing. I like to provide for others and my hobbies reflect that — cooking is my favorite hobby and I often make meals or treats for the people I love. I also paint sometimes and give the paintings away. (2/?) (202) I am unique among my family members in the fact that I do not shy away from death. I accept my mortality and the mortality of those I love. This puts me in a position to comfort the dying as well as those around them, something which I am happy to do. Offering support for the healing of others during hard times is what I consider to be the ultimate form of love. I am a patient person as well and don’t mind waiting for long periods of time. (3/?) (202) I am known for being exceedingly accepting of others no matter their state. I grew up alongside a brother with a terminal physical disability and a mother with psychotic episodes and severe depression, so I have a lot of compassion and love for people who struggle with health issues. As for my personal likes and dislikes, I like to read a lot. I also like stargazing. I don’t like horror movies, large crowds, being the center of attention, hot weather, or conflict. (4/?) (202) I am also a hardworking person. I don’t mind just being a ‘cog in the machine,’ I just do my part to the best of my ability and then help others with theirs. My personality types are ISFJ and 6w5. I guess it’s no surprise to me that they’re often labeled ‘protectors,’ as -though I hate conflict- I do feel the drive to protect those close to me. I hope this is enough information to go off of! Thank you so much for all you do for us. I really appreciate how much time you put into these. (5)
Trainer class: Sage
You live your life in a simpler way than many others. You seem to know what you believe to be your place in the world and you enjoy being able to assist others in trying to find theirs. You take pride in your ability to remain calm in bad situations for the sake of others and your deep love of other people allows you to be of great comfort to those around you. You are able to be somewhat of a stable rock for anyone who you are close with, bringing comfort and stability and a factor of consistency to those who rely on you. Having come to the conclusion that much of life involves suffering or loss in some way, you feel better equipped to help people who have not yet come to this conclusion. You have rather strong control over your emotions though of course some anxieties and other negative emotions come through, which is where you should rely upon your pokemon. Remember that while you may take care of and help a lot of other people, you still need to be comforted and taken care of just like everyone else. Let your barriers down sometimes and let your loved ones and pokemon care for you as you so often care for them.
Starter: Snivy
Your starter pokemon is Snivy. Snivy is a very prideful pokemon that wants a lot of praise. Snivy will constantly go out of its way for your attention and praise, so be prepared to give it lots of treats and love when it needs you as it will become disheartened and sad easily. While you dislike being the center of attention, Snivy loves it. Snivy will always take the spotlight if the opportunity it given, so if you ever need attention off of yourself you can push it off onto Snivy and it will thrive in the situation in your place. Snivy is very emotional and needs a lot of help from you, but it is also a fierce companion.
Partner: Cobalion
Cobalion is a legendary pokemon that exudes leadership and discipline. Cobalion will take to standing by your side and protecting the weak and disciplining the cruel. Cobalion is a very justice-focused pokemon and you may need to reel it in quite often to avoid getting in a lot of unnecessary conflict. While you don't like conflict, Cobalion somewhat seeks it out, always looking for someone to help or someone to stop. Cobalion will always take first seat in conflicts as it knows you aren't a fan of conflict, though it will always welcome your insertion in any situation and loves to work with you to help people. Cobalion is also somewhat of a leader among your team and loves to use its authority for teamwork.
Team: Serperior (starter), Pidgeot, Gogoat, Raichu, Houndoom
Home town: Mahogany Town, Johto
Your hometown is Mahogany Town in the Johto region. Mahogany town is a tiny town that has a lot of history with ninja and conflict. At one point in time, Team Rocket had their headquarters there. Growing up in such a small space that had so much chaos and suspicious figures gave you a somewhat jaded outlook until you left home. You have experienced a lot of bad things at the hands of people in your hometown and you don't necessarily feel the need to return, but you have long since gotten over any sense of bitterness or resentment towards the town and its people. Growing up here allowed you to hone in on what you want and don't want, and gave you your sense of love when it comes to helping people and being empathetic to people who are struggling.
Battle style: Disciplined and rewarding
You are a very disciplined trainer when it comes to battling and you love rewarding your pokemon by doing things for them regularly. You don't care about the result very much but only the journey to get to it. You view battling as a way to bond with your pokemon and a way for your pokemon to achieve their own goals regarding their strength and problem solving capabilities. You view training and battling as a way to enable your pokemon to feel empowered and strong. Outside of battling, you and your pokemon train quite a lot, largely to keep a regular schedule and keep all of your pokemon's skills, as well as your own, progressing in a consistent and useful way. Your pokemon are very driven and do not necessarily need you to keep them motivated, so instead you focus on bringing up their confidence and on helping them through defeats and setbacks. You are the emotional core of your team and your pokemon love you for this, as if you weren't there for them they might become disheartened and quit on themselves. Your bonds with your pokemon grow stronger each time you battle together, and you love cooking for all of your pokemon after a hard battle or training session.

@illusivisage said: “Master Bede? I just wanted to thank you for giving me the courage to stand up to Lillith. I-it means a lot to me that you’d do that, even for someone like me. The Laura in this world is lucky to have you.”
bede had been swept away in the whirlwind of activity that followed the fused monster’s defeat. there were still a number of ultra beasts running amok that needed to be taken care of. ( no doubt the gym leader would be joining that fight. ) a nearby pokemon center managed to get power running steadily enough to start back up the healing machine, and bede had wasted no time in getting his exhausted team tended to. at some point along the way, the boy found himself with a bandage slapped over the scrape on his cheek, and a warm blanket thrown around his shoulders.
dazed and still trembling a bit from the adrenaline, bede had taken to drifting through the crowds. six and hop were around here somewhere, most likely. he should — no, he had to make sure they were alright. the sound of a familiar voice managed to stop him in his tracks, however.
laura...? or — or the other laura. ( the one he knew was still settled back in galar, after all. ) bede turned to face the blonde, straightening up and holding himself proudly with strength he didn’t have. this world’s laura or not, she was still his protege, and the gym leader wouldn’t allow himself to appear weak before her. ❝ to be honest, i feel as though that’s a bit more credit than i deserve. ❞ bede replied smoothly. ( and how strange of him, to be denying praise for once. ) ❝ all i did was give you a push in the right direction. you could have just as easily ignored what i had to say — but you didn’t. instead, you made the deliberate choice to take back control of your life and fight. ❞ he smiled then, with a sort of warmth even bede didn’t know he possessed. ❝ such actions take real strength, did you know that? i truly couldn’t be prouder. ❞
stepping closer, the boy gently pressed something into her hands. a master ball — the one currently holding the injured eternatus. bede met laura’s gaze and nodded slowly. ❝ keep it. i trust you. ❞ he said softly. ❝ there is an entire world out there in need of assistance, is there not? if anyone is capable of doing something about it... i would gladly put my faith in you. ❞
dipping his head ( in thanks, as much as in farewell ) the fairy trainer moved away. ❝ please, take care of yourself. i’m certain the bede in your world is just as lucky to have you. he would welcome you back with open arms, if you allowed him. ❞

The trouble with fainting
As most know, it’s fairly common to fight until fainting when battling Pokemon. It’s very rare that Pokemon are killed in a fight, even when a trainer is fighting a wild Pokemon.
Pokemon seem to have a natural mental tick, preventing them from killing something outright if they don’t intend to eat it or their trainer doesn’t explicitly tell them to. The current reasons for this are unknown, but that isn’t what I’m here to discuss today.
What I would like to talk about is the recent crop of trainers who have popped up who attempt to catch fainted Pokemon. Now, this is a really, fantastically bad idea that a lot of people don’t talk about. There’s a lot of miscommunication, and not everyone has a researcher around to explain it to them. So I will do my civic duty and explain the science behind why trying to catch a fainted Pokemon is a bad idea.
Pokeballs
Pokeballs are an incredible invention. They transform living, physical creatures into energy, and back again the moment it’s necessary. This has been recorded as the exact same energy that Pokemon briefly become during the transition phase of evolution.
Whilst inside a Pokeball, a Pokemon sits in suspension. It has no need for food, water, sleep, or anything of the like. It has been recorded that Pokemon still have a sense of time while inside, and can even hear their trainers voices whilst inside the Pokeball. For many Pokemon, this is incredibly soothing
Each Pokeball has a small computer inside it. Nothing too powerful, but just strong enough to work with the electrical impulses a Pokemon is putting out. When a Pokeball is first used on a Pokemon, that computer makes a map of the Pokemon’s brain.
This map is to help sync the Pokeball with the Pokemon it holds. If it didn’t do this, that energy would just punch out the back of the Pokeball. When you fail to catch a Pokemon, it’s because either the sync did not happen fast enough, or the Pokemon sent out so many electrical impulses at once that it overloaded the Pokeball and destroyed it. This often occurs when the Pokemon is panicking, or angry, or just quite a powerful creature. It’s also why hurting, confusing, or otherwise inflicting status effects on the Pokemon makes capture easy. When they’re focusing on the pain or distracted away from being captured, it’s a lot easier for the Pokeball to get that initial reading without being overloaded.
Catching a fainted Pokemon
Now, some astute readers might be already wondering how fainting is bad when sleeping Pokemon can be caught without issue. If pain and unconsciousness are crucial to making capture easier, why would fainting have the opposite effect?
This is a common line of thought, and I’m not actually going to argue that catching fainted Pokemon is hard. It is actually the easiest way to catch a Pokemon. Unlike sleeping, forced unconsciousness through damage/trauma causes all higher brain functions to stop, meaning there is no chance of overloading the Pokeball.
And that’s actually part of the problem. When you catch a fainted Pokemon, the Pokeball cannot get an accurate reading. A Pokeball needs a balance of electrical impulses, so having none at all or far fewer than a conscious Pokemon should have causes lots of problems.
Pokeballs have another ingenious purpose. They make Pokemon like and listen to their new trainers. It's part of the circuitry, and it’s one of the reasons that electrical syncing is so important. Its not always perfect, and some Pokemon can hold a bit of resentment to their new owners, but they will at least follow given commands during a battle (The way badges play into this is a conversation for another day).
When that early imprint and that initial subservience circuitry tries to work on a forcibly unconscious Pokemon, it throws everything out of whack.
The results [NSFW. Do not read if you are squeamish]
The most common effects are as shown:
Severe brain damage (highly common. Often a complete loss of many higher brain functions, which can be devastating for physic types)
No change in behavior (they will not identify you as master or trainer, and will still act like a wild Pokemon)
Malformation (when brought back out of their Pokeball, the ball might not disgorge all of the energy, leaving the Pokemon missing limbs, organs, and body parts)
Poke-etymological breakdown (a fairly tame side-effect compared to others on this list, but has an almost 100% chance of happening to Pokemon in this situation. The Pokemon become unable to vocalize. Not because they’ve lost a voice box, but because the part of their brain that deals with communication is just absent. This prevents them from communicating with mates, signaling their emotions, or even communicating in English as some psychic types are able to do)
Dsychelic Myrendedic Toresstion (This nasty affliction is named after the three professors to discover it, and commonly abbreviated to DMT. This most commonly affects females but has been known to affect males. Genderless Pokemon are believed to be immune, but tests are inconclusive. This will cause, over time, another version of that creature to grow out of the old Pokemon’s body like a tumor. A stantler was first discovered with this when a growth appeared on its left flank. After three months, that growth ripped the skin, revealing a baby stantler head. They were unable to remove the second body because it was already too heavily intertwined with the original nervous system. The stantler later died after its second bodies’ ribs punched through its heart.)
These are some truly horrific things to have happen to your new friends, and I would caution any and all trainers to avoid this at all costs.
Now I do have to admit that there is a way around this. The above symptoms are only what happens if you were to use a heal-station (the name of the machines found in the Pokemon center) to bring the fainted Pokemon back whilst it is still in its new Pokeball.
If you were to release the fainted creature and nurse it back to health with revives and potions, it would suffer none of the adverse effects listed above. However, that’s still a wild creature and it won’t go back into the Pokeball. So unless you plan to transport this creature for whatever reason, it’s better to just try and get them while they’re conscious.

Pokémon Black 2 Randomized Nuzlocke Run [Part 3]
With some interesting carnage leading us through it, the second badge has been earned. Better yet, we got a TM for a Special Poison move, so Caspet can now be a little more secure in her help.
Team as of the moment:
Stella (Poliwhirl)
Caspet (Gastly)
Okay then.
New routes please.
Hey me.
I have been invited to Pokestar Studios. It’s like Hollywood. Roxie’s dad ran off there to be a movie star. Roxie’s now running off there to talk him out of it. We’re going to run off there and have a terrible time with movies.
I don’t know why I remember the movie place. I think there was either some achievement or plot barrier there, and I hated the process but perfectionism insisted on trying again and... idk. Hopefully that distaste won’t be part of this run.
Can I please just be allowed to catch a third party member.
Is there any grass here. Please.
Stop dragging me to movies.
Stop dragging me to terrible movies.
Like there’s clearly some Emotions going on with Roxie’s father, but oh my gosh I do not play these games for becoming a movie star. ;-; Free me. ;-;
I have control of myself again, so I don’t know if I actually have to shoot a movie, but I feel like Roxie and her dad might require me to, and in any case, one won’t hurt too badly. I guess.
Wait, was it a medal thing? Is that why I made myself nuts over this?
Movie shot, script followed, yay, leaving.
Ahoy, plot!
Sequel Team Plasma is so very open about wanting to take over the world. How refreshing. They’ve gone from knights to pirates. Most excellent.
Pop Roxie is back to captaining, so it’s time to run off to Castelia and find another darn teammate.
And our first act of being in Castelia is a clown giving us a bicycle. Rocking.
A boat takes us to Liberty Garden. I think this is where Victini is if Victini is activated, but I’m not sure if that will be the case with this version. The important question is... does it also have other grass.
Fuckdamn it doesn’t.
Yay, entering random buildings in Castelia gave me an Exp. Share.
In keeping with me doing stupid things, I go to the Game Freak building and chat up some of the trainers who are not nearly as strong as they are post-game, thank goodness.
I really.
Really.
Would like.
More than two pokemon in my party.
I also finally gave in and talked to the medal guy in the Pokemon Center.
My achievement hunting tendencies are going to be the largest obstacle between me and any progress ever.
-whispers-
I want all of them.
Other conversations gave me an Eviolite, so that goes to Stella. ...Wait, no, Caspet. Uggggggh.
Burgh is missing from his Gym, which is fine, since I don’t think I’m ready for another round. I’m just walking around trying to check off whatever plot stuff I can that will let me catch something else.
Oh hey, I think talking to Iris opens up the sewers! I think that means I can catch something down there! !!!!
Pleeeeeease give me something.
Please, ominous guise of darkness.
Oh no.
Russell’s partnering with us, so. Uh. What’s the rule for this? I have to catch the first thing I see, but as long as I’m in a duo, I won’t be able to throw a ball very easily...
Fuuuuuuck.
Okay. We took out Panpour.
I have the ability to throw a ball, which means.
This is my catch option for the route.
Haaaa. And Russell’s Dewott is using Fury Cutter. Its damage will keep going up. I think I have two tries to catch it.
Yeehaw.
Try one is a bust.
Oh hey that’s neat! The Dewott used Razor Shell on Stella, because Stella has Water Absorb and had taken damage! That’s smarter than I expected from the partner AI.
And that means I can spare a turn or two trying to put Serperior to sleep. Since Stella still has Hypnosis.
Yo, it hit! And Dewott heals me again!
But. I need Serperior to be more damaged. I shouldn’t risk attacking. ...I’ll just keep throwing balls and wait for Dewott to hurt it a little more.
HECK YEAH WHO’S DA MAN.
Hot damn that was stressful.
Now I gotta give this girl a name.
Sylarana, wanna rock?
Also, now having Russell with me is a good thing, because this squad could use some levels.
What are you like, Syl?
She’s Careful and proud of her power.
Yeah, pride looks good on that sprite.
I don’t know what Serperior’s stats are with a neutral nature. That takes some stress off, since I’ll just go with the flow, but I prefer to know what I’m getting into, usually. Either way, Defense is stronger than Attack, and that’s just fine.
Female Nidoran are down here, too.
This is working out well enough. Yay for buddy healing. I almost don’t want it to ever end. It’s so convenient.
I shouldn’t do this forever, though. That would get boring fast.
My starter breathing. Also cool pirate outfits in Pokemon Go.
Mooks dispatched.
Gym Leader located!
Look at Burgh being all artsy with his tour of the sewers.
Huh, and Russell just hands us Strength. Because all our pals are true bros in this gen.
Then a dude with anime hair walks out of the hole in the wall.
YO NEW ROUTE.
‘ello there.
...I am possibly not going to be able to catch you due to lack of poke balls and you being remarkably stubborn.
Hey, there we go!
What to name you... what to name you... A magnificent sea serpent with a rainbow tail...
Nessy!
Without Russell healing us every fight, we can’t stick around. Back out of the sewers we go, to receive happy words from Iris. Well. Sort of happy words. She worries about Russell and tells us to challenge the Gym.
I, being a compliant sort, walk back into the sewers after healing.
Okay I guess it’s a cave. Sylarana out front, Nessy with Exp. Share while I contemplate what the heck this team does against a Bug Gym.
Ooooh, Forretress.
...
Is. is there anywhere I can go that can pave the way to me getting a Fire pokemon?
You know what, I don’t like things that blow themselves up at me. Guh, this is taking forever. I might need to buy a few Repels just so I can explore the cave properly... I believe there’s grass somewhere past the sewers, and if I could have a slightly more diverse team going into the next whatever, I’d like it.
Oh, and before I forget, Nessy!
She is Quirky and mischievous. She and Stella have half their personalities in common. Delightful. Marvel Scale is also a neat ability to have. Not one I can utilize properly because I’m a competitive failure, but still cool.
Neat, there’s Pidgeot down here.
Looks like there’s not much of the cave to explore at this point in the game. Ah well. Back to the sewers.
Hm. Would the desert north of Castelia be open to me yet? That could prove useful. Heck, is anywhere outside of this city open? I just need a little patch of grass somewhere new.
Bridge still being inspected.
A wild Bianca appears!
Dowsing Machine get!
Hello, this is new.
But there’s still spots of desert.
OH MY GOSH LOOK AT IT.
Oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh.
Caught!
Your new name is Itsy, and you are much beloved!
Itsy is Modest and somewhat vain, and ouch that is not a nature I think I like for this little one, but adorableness beats everything, so we’re good.
Butterfree is also in the desert. Oooo Pawniard. Back to the sewers, though. Easier training fodder.
Grass located!
...And if I were a better trainer, I would go back and buy poke balls before exploring, but I have the impulse control of a toddler. Oh, and it’s dark grass vs. light grass...
Decision will be made by rapidly running between the two and seeing what triggers an encounter first.
Dark grass it is!
Aaaaaaaa fuck off.
I love Lapras so much. So so so so so so so so much. But I have two Water pokemon already, as well as an Ice one. I. can’t focus on catching the Lapras. It would be a bad idea.
You have never seen anyone so sad to encounter a Dratini during a Nuzlocke.
The wild Lapras fainted.
Oh fucking hell the Dratini knows Dragon Rage and both my pokemon are under 40 HP. Caspet’s turn on healing Caspet, Sylarana’s turn on getting her out of there.
Okay. Confused and slept.
Now I just. catch it. With four poke balls and two great balls left.
...Three poke balls, and guess who woke up.
Great ball. C’mon great ball.
..One great ball left.
Also if Dratini hurts itself in confusion one more time it is dead.
FORTUNE SMILES ON THE CRIMINALLY STUPID.
Now let’s run everyone back through the sewers and--
Did. did I really hit the no nickname option.
Ffs.
Okay, run back through the sewers, hit the Pokemon Center, and then name the critter. The Name Rater’s somewhere in the city, I think.
Heh. The guy in the alleyway still gives us Flash.
Congratulations, Puff! You are now eligible for activity!
Puff is Quiet and alert to sounds. An adorable addition to our squad. He’s going to be temporarily up front thanks to Dragon Rage. The Game Freak fights are once a day, and it’s been a day, so!
I believe in you, Puff!
Dragon Rage is so op this early. Dreamor agrees. But Puff’s ours, so that makes it okay.
Hm. I have six now. They could keep each other out of trouble.
There are so many areas in these sewers I can’t get to. Or maybe I can, it just involves more maze work than I’m expecting. ...Yeah, it’s looking like that side. Hey, a nurse guy! Yay for less walking up to the Pokemon Center.
Oh, and Poison... might be super effective against Bug? I think the whatsit thing he has is Bug/Grass, so that isn’t actually much of a confirmation. Eh, I’ll find out soon enough.
I’ve found a room full of Zweilous. That’s a safe grinding area, right? Itsy’s got Ice and everything. Vullaby and Dwebble are also here.
Heeeeeey, Caspet’s evolving!
And wants to learn another physical Ghost move.
Bye Lick.
Okay, Gym it is.
...Wow Burgh. Really went full Art on the place, huh? Did trainers complain that you were forcing them to walk through honey before letting them fight you?
Puff’s up first. I don’t have much type advantage here, so it’s just going to be hitting things until they break.
Burgh.
Hey Burgh.
This Gym is creepy.
The cocoons just suck you in and zoom you up. Only think Willy Wonka style.
Mooks have level 20s, so this should be a little uncomfortable for a few of the younger members, but Caspet, Stella, and Sylarana should be fine. For now, Puff’s still in front and Dragon Raging all the things.
And we’re going to the Pokemon Center after every fight, but hey. Baby steps in all things. Puff is on one of the slower exp tracks, so every little bit helps.
...Burgh. Buddy.
You want to talk?
This Gym feels like a cry for help.
In true shounen protagonist style, I will settle your troubled emotions through battle! Even if none of the dialogue will admit to how concerning the aesthetics of your chosen arena are!
Everything is hitting critical hits.
...Oh wait, I’m supposed to narrate these fights, aren’t I?
Uh. Swadloon down, Dwebble down, Leavanny left, Leavanny’s level 24. Caspet’s out to deal with it after Puff handled Swadloon and Nessy handled Dwebble.
Caspet one-shots it like a champ, and on we go.
Burgh, this trinket in no way makes me less concerned for you.
Still, though! Everyone’s alive, and we have a team full of six! Nice work, ladies and Puff. Five more badges to go! Let’s hope they go well!
