i love media that focuses more on character than plot and bsd does it so well. like every single character is so beautifully written and asgr treats all of them with such care. i know people complain about the death bait but i think its just. hes not going to kill characters unless that is what makes sense for their arc and their story has been told. its why odasaku is so fixated on not killing: because to him, a character is a real being and you cant be so loose with taking lives when you have full control of one.

even when characters die before youve really had a chance to get to know them properly (the flags, and bram now too, for example), asgr still does a rlly good job of establishing them quickly without leaving them one dimensional. they have a lot of life to them even with so little time to show it. contrast that to something like jjk where you could sit with a character for a while and still not feel like you have a good grasp on Who They Are, and. yikes.

I can emotionally attach to bsd characters who show up for a singular chapter of a backstory light novel. jjk gives a character a whole mini arc and theyre still just nothing to me bc gege, like a lot of writers atm, has characters as plot devices rather than people. and asgr does the opposite.

today has been the most monday ever at it's not even 1PM

on a much brighter note, i'm thinking about trying to write SNW-era spirk and it's difficult to do, because i cannot fathom a spock and kirk who don't already know that the other is very important to them!

like no wonder the 2009 reboots had to have a character who'd seen the old timeline (much less ambassador spock himself). can you imagine the torture of watching spock and kirk interact without knowing? without being aware of the relationship that would define them and their source materials? like goddamn no wonder you need someone to tell both of them to give the other a chance.

i try to think about SNW-era spirk and my brain immediately wants to either expand on 1x10 a quality of mercy or some sort of soulmate au. but even a soulmate au doesn't scratch the itch, because a soulmate au doesn't even manage to communicate to these characters that they will be very important!! and i can't imagine a spirk without the knowledge of their power.

now that i've been thinking about one direction again for the last few days (and forgive me if this reads as tone deaf considering the general situation rn), i do want to say that it BAFFLES me how niall kept his love life a secret for five whole years. this is not me saying he owes me this information or that he should give fans a play-by-play of his dating life. i'm glad he's been able to keep things private, i'm not digging or fishing, i'm just nosy as hell, he's not going to read this etc etc. but like. the boys were so overexposed for years, literally every interviewer asked them about their love lives, even when they dated non-celebrities, their relationships were widely discussed. even when they tried to keep it a secret, they were papped alllll the time (like the time harry was supposedly dating t-swift the first time around and he got caught kissing a girl that was NOT her). even when they weren't papped, they were most certainly spotted in public by fans and non-fans. i know eleanor and louis had been sighted by multiple regular, non-1d fans who only vaguely knew louis as "that guy from 1d." people used to follow perrie's brother and zayn's sisters on instagram and get updates about their relationship from there. stans had a hawklike eye on who the boys and their family members started following and unfollowing on instagram and twitter. bobby and greg have public accounts and so do his cousins and friends. i refuse to believe hailee steinfeld was niall's first relationship, he's had to have dated around. but you mean to tell me he bypassed this mass surveillance/panopticon of celebrity life and did it secretly? never even got caught once doing anything that would catch people's attention? and you mean to tell me it was such a well-kept secret that the boys, who were notorious for letting things slip, did not let it slip? did they even know what he did in his free time? did he even tell them? he's so funny

OMG HDU NOT REBLOG LITERALLY EVERYTHING U LIKE?!?!

I did notice that some people (vagueblogging) who go on about how LIKES DO NOTHING YOU MUST REBLOG EVERYTHING and YOU MUST SUPPORT CONTENT CREATORS WITH REBLOGS OR YOU MURDER FANDOM actually run quite tightly-curated blogs themselves. So either they just happen to only enjoy (and thus - of course! - reblog) content very similar to what they make themselves or... they're not actually reblogging everyone else's posts the way they demand we do of theirs. Is this because, I venture, they want to keep their own blog to fairly consistent themes, because they know that if they just reblogged literally every post they appreciated in some way they'd appear on their followers dashes so often that people might go "they're getting a bit spammy, I can't keep up with this flood of widely varying content I have no personal interest in, I'll just unfollow them"?

There have been one or two angry posts about the moral responsibility to reblog everything you see where when I go to the OP's blog it's oddly coherent in theme and consists mostly of their own content or already popular content that I don't know was mostly there to maintain a reciprocal promotional relationship but like... I do wonder.

I just happen to only like things made by popular people who make content similar to my own, okay?!?! You though... you need to put my desire for fame and tumblr popularity over your own desire to curate the content that appears on your blog, as well as over any concerns about 'spamming' your own followers. My content could never be considered spam, by anyone! Why don't you support me? THIS IS HOW FANDOMS DIE YOU KNOW!!
